- 2:14Speaker 1: My next guest is a very very popular film and
- 2:17Speaker 1: television actress. You've seen her in movies like Thinking Like
- 2:19Speaker 1: a Man, Think Like a Man Too, The Intruder, and
- 2:22Speaker 1: Shazam of Next Year starring Sony's Monster Hunter, which will
- 2:26Speaker 1: be released hopefully this year. And with the pandemic gears,
- 2:29Speaker 1: so everything's kind of odd, but this movie Monster Hunters.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Everybody's waiting to see that movie that she's starting in.
- 2:35Speaker 1: She was recently seen on owns new series of Girlfriends
- 2:39Speaker 1: check In. I checked it out myself. She wrote a
- 2:41Speaker 1: Game Chaman relationship book with her husband entitled The Weight
- 2:44Speaker 1: At Powerful Practice for finding the Love of your Life
- 2:47Speaker 1: and the Life you Love, which I love that title.
- 2:50Speaker 1: She's a philanthropist, started the Greater the Greater Good Foundation
- 2:54Speaker 1: with our sister and an entrepreneur. Were good girl raps
- 2:56Speaker 1: about making good. There are multi funk multi funks on
- 3:00Speaker 1: hair accessory that could be warm when you're out and
- 3:02Speaker 1: about work out a bedtime. Look, I am going to
- 3:06Speaker 1: buy that for my daughter. Please work with the money
- 3:09Speaker 1: making conversations making good. Uh, it's so funny making I
- 3:17Speaker 1: saw the wraps right, and so because I was, I said,
- 3:21Speaker 1: my daughter was up tested. I said, I said, my
- 3:23Speaker 1: name is christ Christie. How to get down here. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: gotta show your something. I gotta show you something simple.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You know, she's twenty two senior in college. I think
- 3:31Speaker 1: I finally found something because she comes down here with
- 3:34Speaker 1: these these things on her hair. Megan, I'd be like,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I'll just be staring at them. This is not We
- 3:39Speaker 1: do have money, baby, we do have a little money.
- 3:42Speaker 1: You can do better than that. And so I showed
- 3:45Speaker 1: her this and she said, uh, Dad, this is just
- 3:48Speaker 1: she picked out like three different options that we're gonna
- 3:50Speaker 1: buy it. Just tell us about the whole concerts. I'm
- 3:52Speaker 1: just letting you know as a man, I saw it,
- 3:54Speaker 1: our dad, I saw it. I fell in love when
- 3:56Speaker 1: my daughter picked out three of them, and I think
- 4:00Speaker 1: of just beautiful. You can we can? You know, we
- 4:02Speaker 1: should go to the store. She can wear when she
- 4:04Speaker 1: goes to the gym, she can work out in them.
- 4:06Speaker 1: She can, Thank God, she can go to sleep and
- 4:08Speaker 1: wake up. And I'm not terrified when she comes into
- 4:11Speaker 1: the kitchen. Well, I don't know what she got on
- 4:14Speaker 1: her head making, but at least when she comes to
- 4:16Speaker 1: the kitchen now with your your half your hair wrap,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'll be excited and thankful that she's my daughter. I
- 4:27Speaker 1: got your truth that I'll be struggling with the head
- 4:29Speaker 1: wraps that I don't know. You know, we, like I said,
- 4:32Speaker 1: we had a little success making in that life. But
- 4:34Speaker 1: the good girl rap that you have produced a my
- 4:37Speaker 1: favorites now okay, oh yeah. I was like super excited
- 4:42Speaker 1: to create them because you know, um from one of
- 4:45Speaker 1: my silas. Um, I have two nicea Oliver and Carrie,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and we created the Goddess locks the dreadlocks look together. Um.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And so what happened was I was wearing the South
- 4:56Speaker 1: so much and I was going to the gym gym
- 4:58Speaker 1: and trying to work out everything that I did, my
- 5:00Speaker 1: hair was flipping my face and then I'd be trying
- 5:02Speaker 1: to wash my face and I couldn't sleep comfortably and
- 5:04Speaker 1: it was just like a whole thing. And so we
- 5:07Speaker 1: developed this wrap and it literally was like a lifesaver.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And then the more I would we're at workout videos,
- 5:11Speaker 1: people would ask like, well, where did you get that?
- 5:13Speaker 1: And what is that? And I was like, you know what,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I just need to create a line and make them
- 5:17Speaker 1: available and also just make it some people can choose
- 5:19Speaker 1: their different styles and what better fits like you know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: how they want it to be. So that's really how
- 5:25Speaker 1: it came about. And uh and it did really really
- 5:27Speaker 1: well the first day. We sold out on the first
- 5:30Speaker 1: run collection and now we're on the second collection, thank you,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and so we're getting ready to start the third collection now.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And the cool thing is, like, you know, I'm able
- 5:39Speaker 1: to see people's input, like oh, I would really love
- 5:41Speaker 1: to see more this kind of color, that kind of coming,
- 5:44Speaker 1: more prints or whatever. So that's that's the full thing
- 5:47Speaker 1: is like every collection, I really take people input into
- 5:49Speaker 1: account and try to create something that all women feel
- 5:53Speaker 1: good and comfortable with and even some men are able
- 5:55Speaker 1: to wear them as well. So I saw that, I
- 5:56Speaker 1: saw some photos, you know, and of course you know
- 5:58Speaker 1: if you have dreadlocks, and thing was like that, and
- 6:01Speaker 1: you know, they definitely will be perfect for that, and
- 6:02Speaker 1: I thought that was just all I know is that
- 6:05Speaker 1: when I saw it, I immediately liked it and I
- 6:07Speaker 1: felt this was a natural, comfortable look. It could be jazz.
- 6:10Speaker 1: You can wear them out, you know, to a restaurant.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You can wear you know, you we out to it
- 6:15Speaker 1: if you depending on the look that you buy, I
- 6:17Speaker 1: want to feel well, you can go out to a
- 6:19Speaker 1: party with him wearing it. So I really felt comfortable
- 6:22Speaker 1: with the look, and I just wanted I was excited
- 6:24Speaker 1: about you coming on my shoulder to discuss it. And
- 6:26Speaker 1: because as an entrepreneur, you know, we all have great ideas,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and so how you know you talked about the journey
- 6:32Speaker 1: about it, you know, because it was just your idea.
- 6:35Speaker 1: What made it real though, what made it like, Okay,
- 6:38Speaker 1: we let's do this, because a lot of people stop
- 6:41Speaker 1: at the idea because they don't think nobody's gonna buy it,
- 6:44Speaker 1: or nobody's gonna even want to show them how to
- 6:47Speaker 1: produce it, right. I mean, I was starting working um
- 6:52Speaker 1: with the company. I was creating a line of flannels
- 6:55Speaker 1: because you know, I'm an eighties babies, so in the nineties,
- 7:00Speaker 1: lather and if flannels was always like a staple part
- 7:02Speaker 1: of your outfit. So I was already creating a flannel
- 7:05Speaker 1: line with my sister and I where the money that
- 7:08Speaker 1: we were raising through the flannel line was going to
- 7:10Speaker 1: our foundations, and so I already had the relationship. And
- 7:14Speaker 1: what I realized is, you know, once I was wearing
- 7:16Speaker 1: my rap, if people just kept asking for a year
- 7:19Speaker 1: that the question never stopped and people were always interested.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So I was like, all right, it's been a consistent thing.
- 7:24Speaker 1: People are into it. I think they'll buy it. Let's
- 7:27Speaker 1: just you know, give it a run and we'll see
- 7:29Speaker 1: what happens. And um, and people really took to it
- 7:31Speaker 1: really well. So I was like, okay, well, let's you know,
- 7:34Speaker 1: create even more. And so it's it's been. It's been
- 7:37Speaker 1: really great because I know, as a woman rather you
- 7:40Speaker 1: have dread twists, very big curly hair that you don't
- 7:44Speaker 1: want to wash and style every day or whatever. It is, like,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I know for a fact that this is a product
- 7:49Speaker 1: that I would use and I wish I had had earlier.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And that made me feel confident that somebody's going to
- 7:55Speaker 1: get some great use out of this. So congratulations again.
- 7:58Speaker 1: You know, when I look into when I look at
- 8:00Speaker 1: your career, like when I was managing Steve Harvard when
- 8:03Speaker 1: we started together back in two thousand, the first time
- 8:05Speaker 1: I really got to see you and introduce myself to
- 8:08Speaker 1: you was the movie You Got Served, And uh, that's
- 8:12Speaker 1: way you know, it's way back then, way back then.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Just to talk about your your body of work, because
- 8:18Speaker 1: you begin starting in commercial at the age of four,
- 8:20Speaker 1: and I've done over sixty thou sixty sixty national TV
- 8:24Speaker 1: commercial in an untold number of films and television shows.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I just only missed a small amount of your success.
- 8:30Speaker 1: In fact, I didn't even mention any of the television
- 8:32Speaker 1: series that you've started very successful on. So how what
- 8:37Speaker 1: has helped you to make that transition from a child
- 8:40Speaker 1: star to an adult star? Because that's a hard make
- 8:44Speaker 1: sometimes because you're so cute qute see and when you
- 8:47Speaker 1: become an adult, people don't buy the qt qte see
- 8:50Speaker 1: or you know, mature correctly, or you don't have the
- 8:52Speaker 1: support system. What has helped you? Megan? Um? I think
- 8:57Speaker 1: you know. The first thing was like prayer. You know,
- 9:00Speaker 1: nineteen I was I was struggling. I still looked fifteen sixteen,
- 9:03Speaker 1: and it was the first time in my life where
- 9:05Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, I'm seeing people around me getting
- 9:07Speaker 1: work and I'm not getting work. So the first time
- 9:10Speaker 1: I prayed, I was like, all right, God, is this
- 9:11Speaker 1: what I'm supposed to be doing? And and here's the thing.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna just put it on the altar and say
- 9:16Speaker 1: I want what you want for me more than what
- 9:18Speaker 1: I think I want for myself, and I want what
- 9:24Speaker 1: you want for me more than what I think I
- 9:27Speaker 1: want for myself. Um. And so that was the first
- 9:30Speaker 1: time I had gotten confirmation that this is the business
- 9:33Speaker 1: that I should be in. But that's it's bigger than
- 9:36Speaker 1: than you know, being able to do something that I
- 9:38Speaker 1: love and I'm passionate about. It's bigger than being in
- 9:41Speaker 1: an industry people consider you celebrity, whatever it is. It's
- 9:43Speaker 1: bigger than all that. It's really about using the platform
- 9:47Speaker 1: that God has given you as an ability to as
- 9:49Speaker 1: an opportunity to build the kingdom, and to really be
- 9:53Speaker 1: used in whatever way He wants to use me. So
- 9:55Speaker 1: once I got that confirmation, that gave me the confidence
- 9:58Speaker 1: to know that, like, okay, so I'm gonn to be
- 10:00Speaker 1: okay because this is bigger than me anyways. And I
- 10:02Speaker 1: just kept trucking along and trying to make smart decisions.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Um and and you know, show however I could like okay,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I'm becoming a woman now and trying to watch that
- 10:12Speaker 1: that balance because you know, at that time there was
- 10:14Speaker 1: all the men's magazines and I did a bunch of them.
- 10:17Speaker 1: But I remember efforts. Yeah, when I did it, it
- 10:21Speaker 1: was like okay, so no baby, but there's a message
- 10:24Speaker 1: that when you did them. We're talking about the King
- 10:27Speaker 1: magazines and all those type of magazines and were but
- 10:30Speaker 1: they said a bad message or the incorrect message of
- 10:33Speaker 1: who your or what your brand or who you represented.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Don't you think? No, I don't because I think at
- 10:39Speaker 1: that time that is who I was, you know. And
- 10:43Speaker 1: my thing is like I've you know, I've I've come
- 10:46Speaker 1: under fire a lot about saying like as a Christian,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I don't mind being sexy, and I own that part
- 10:51Speaker 1: of myself. I love that part of myself. Um and
- 10:54Speaker 1: what I realized, you know, my my journey has been
- 10:57Speaker 1: unique to you know. I didn't grow up in the church,
- 10:59Speaker 1: but my mother was always read your Bible, get to
- 11:02Speaker 1: know God, have a relationship, not a religion with him.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And so as I pursued a relationship with God, I
- 11:07Speaker 1: got saved when I was twelve, I got three baptized
- 11:10Speaker 1: when I was nineteen on my own. So at that
- 11:12Speaker 1: time and I was doing the King magazines, a black
- 11:14Speaker 1: man or whatever it was, and I was twenty three,
- 11:17Speaker 1: my feeling was like I'm gonna own who I am
- 11:20Speaker 1: and be comfortable with who I am. But what I'm
- 11:22Speaker 1: gonna do is I'm gonna go into a place that
- 11:24Speaker 1: some would consider dark and I'm gonna spread light. So
- 11:27Speaker 1: if you look at each one of those interviews, not
- 11:30Speaker 1: only did I not wear you know, lingerie or bathing
- 11:33Speaker 1: suits or do any backshots or anything that was too
- 11:35Speaker 1: suggested that item feel comfortable in my spirit about, but
- 11:38Speaker 1: I also every single interview I talked about that, I
- 11:41Speaker 1: talked about my relationship with that, I talked about being Christians.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I talked about there's a there's a way to still
- 11:47Speaker 1: be comfortable with your sexuality without overtly, you know, doing
- 11:51Speaker 1: things that are really about look at me, look at me,
- 11:53Speaker 1: versus I love me, I embraced me, And so for me,
- 11:56Speaker 1: it was it was walking a line of like what
- 11:59Speaker 1: feels my and my spirit that I'm not lying to myself.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm being honest, like whatever God places in my spirit,
- 12:05Speaker 1: I'm owning that. But I'm also not conforming to what
- 12:08Speaker 1: people say a Christians should be because I know my
- 12:11Speaker 1: heart and I know who I am at the core,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and God knows me and we talk. So at the
- 12:16Speaker 1: end of the day, I can do religious and I
- 12:19Speaker 1: can do what people think I should do and who
- 12:20Speaker 1: they think I should be. Or I can own who
- 12:23Speaker 1: I am in every season and allow me and allow
- 12:25Speaker 1: him to guide me. And so that's what I did.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And so I think my my journey has definitely been
- 12:31Speaker 1: an interesting one, but I've always been in tune with
- 12:34Speaker 1: God do all of it. That's beautiful, and that's beautiful,
- 12:38Speaker 1: and I'm glad you're saying that. That's why I'm kind
- 12:39Speaker 1: of like being quiet. Let you say your conversation, because
- 12:43Speaker 1: people need to hear without interruption, the message you're trying
- 12:46Speaker 1: to deliver. And that's important because of the fact that
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know, we we we we have a preconceived notions
- 12:52Speaker 1: of who people are, just how they look or just
- 12:54Speaker 1: how they dress. And that's what you're saying. Okay, I
- 12:57Speaker 1: embrace you who I am, but that doesn't mean I
- 12:59Speaker 1: can't embrace my love of God or the respect that
- 13:02Speaker 1: I have for Him. And if you want to read
- 13:04Speaker 1: something differently, while are you looking at that photo, read
- 13:07Speaker 1: the article? How about that? Right? Read the story, open
- 13:11Speaker 1: the book, okay, and and and go through go through
- 13:14Speaker 1: the messages I'm trying to tell the consistent values I'm
- 13:16Speaker 1: trying to say, and I think for young people that
- 13:19Speaker 1: that's important because especially with social media today, we can
- 13:22Speaker 1: get caught up and like some getting caught up and
- 13:25Speaker 1: and trying to look a certain way and pose a
- 13:28Speaker 1: certain way in order to grow our fan base. And
- 13:30Speaker 1: you're saying that honestly, honestly, what yourself is the key
- 13:34Speaker 1: to that, That's what you're saying, Like, yeah, transparency. What
- 13:37Speaker 1: people are gonna respond to is you not trying to
- 13:41Speaker 1: be anybody else but being yourself. The honest people who
- 13:44Speaker 1: are gonna like you, dig you, that are going to
- 13:46Speaker 1: be your tribe and support you, are going to support
- 13:48Speaker 1: the truest version of you. So I'm comfortable with knowing
- 13:52Speaker 1: that at ten years old, I was doing off Broadway
- 13:55Speaker 1: shows with drag Queens. And I'm still a Christian. So
- 13:58Speaker 1: the way I see the world, all the way I
- 14:00Speaker 1: perceived drag Queens, the way I perceive a lot of
- 14:02Speaker 1: things may be different than some other Christians, but I
- 14:06Speaker 1: know that God allowed me to have that experience and
- 14:08Speaker 1: the mindset that I have when we talk about what's
- 14:11Speaker 1: appropriate or what's modest, but my different my version of
- 14:13Speaker 1: modest is gonna be different than yours based on my upbringing.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So as long as I own that and I lean into,
- 14:19Speaker 1: like God, what do you say as it pertains to me,
- 14:22Speaker 1: that's the only thing I have to do. And I
- 14:24Speaker 1: try to encourage other people, especially young people to do
- 14:27Speaker 1: that as well, because they think that if you don't
- 14:29Speaker 1: fit into a certain box, you can't you have to
- 14:31Speaker 1: choose to do that box. And having a relationship without
- 14:33Speaker 1: or not having a relationship with do you have a
- 14:35Speaker 1: past because you have a party. I'm tell you some girl,
- 14:39Speaker 1: you I'll tell you. You know, I like to believe
- 14:42Speaker 1: I recognize town. Okay, you got this, you got the
- 14:44Speaker 1: acting down, pat But your motivational skill and your own
- 14:48Speaker 1: point about what young people need to hear and old
- 14:51Speaker 1: people need to get people in general, male and female, everybody,
- 14:54Speaker 1: because your your conversation is welcoming to everybody. And if
- 14:57Speaker 1: you have thought about doing a podcast, start if you
- 15:00Speaker 1: have thought, because I feel that your message and then
- 15:04Speaker 1: you know it needs to be heard if you just
- 15:07Speaker 1: just think about it, like you said, if you never
- 15:09Speaker 1: I'm sure you've heard this before, just like the wraps.
- 15:12Speaker 1: You know, people kept telling your girl, I need that,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I need it, I need it. When we sat on
- 15:16Speaker 1: McDonald's coming along and you know something, um, excuse me,
- 15:20Speaker 1: you need to be worldwide on your own platform where
- 15:24Speaker 1: your message won't be interrupted and you can share and
- 15:27Speaker 1: get other like minded people who look like you, don't
- 15:30Speaker 1: look like you, and and be able to you know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: this is about love, your message about love. It is
- 15:36Speaker 1: so clean. When I hear you talk, Megan, it's amazing.
- 15:40Speaker 1: It's just like it's like drinking a good cold glass
- 15:43Speaker 1: of water on a hot sunny day. Oh it feels good.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Oh it feels good, don't it. Oh my god, you go, oh,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I feel good. And that's what there. You're talking so clean,
- 15:53Speaker 1: there's no stuttering, there's no there's no pause about, no revelation. Well,
- 15:58Speaker 1: let me think about it. It's just like and I said, well,
- 16:00Speaker 1: do you think that was against your braind No, No,
- 16:02Speaker 1: it was not you. You did not like you did
- 16:05Speaker 1: like hesitate, Rachel. I know who I am, and that
- 16:07Speaker 1: is important. When people get caught up, get caught up
- 16:10Speaker 1: in de cyber bullying, get caught up and should I
- 16:13Speaker 1: look this way so that A dressed his way? And
- 16:15Speaker 1: you're saying God defines you, believe in him, believe in
- 16:19Speaker 1: yourself and don't don't. Let's they say um er left
- 16:23Speaker 1: or right and that's what you're saying. Yeah, beautiful, beautiful,
- 16:28Speaker 1: exactly what I'm saying. I think it's important that we
- 16:31Speaker 1: that we have a relationship a guy where we hear
- 16:34Speaker 1: from him for ourselves. I want to be in a
- 16:37Speaker 1: position where someone comes up to me and they say
- 16:40Speaker 1: I have a word from God. I can say, yes,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I received that, my spirit agrees, or no you don't.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I don't. I don't feel your spirits that's for me
- 16:47Speaker 1: is not from God. And then have that type of confidence.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I feel like that's how internial God we have to be.
- 16:52Speaker 1: And when you're in that, when you're that in tune,
- 16:55Speaker 1: it doesn't matter that some people are not going to
- 16:57Speaker 1: understand you because they're coming from a different place. You know,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm told when you're talking out there, I'm sure you
- 17:02Speaker 1: do public speaking? Are they're passing the plate? They gotta
- 17:05Speaker 1: be good. I want to get to the book. The
- 17:14Speaker 1: wait I read the book. I want to ask a
- 17:16Speaker 1: couple of questions that some fervorite lines. I want to
- 17:18Speaker 1: run by it. But I got to talk about Shazam. Okay,
- 17:21Speaker 1: when um you made an appearance in that, but it's
- 17:23Speaker 1: one of my favorite movies. In fact, when you when
- 17:27Speaker 1: you finally make an appearance and the other adult versions
- 17:30Speaker 1: of the kids making the appearance. It's one of my
- 17:32Speaker 1: favorite parts of the movie. But one of my one
- 17:35Speaker 1: of my endearing parts is how you were able to
- 17:39Speaker 1: be an adult but you maintain that childlike quality in
- 17:43Speaker 1: your acting performance. Uh. That was I mean I smiled
- 17:47Speaker 1: every time I see it, and I go wow, you know,
- 17:50Speaker 1: you know, you know, people are talented, but certain things
- 17:52Speaker 1: that you can show goes. That's an extra gear of
- 17:56Speaker 1: talent that she has. Talk about that whole what I'm
- 17:59Speaker 1: talking about. And Shazam is a very popul superhero, you know,
- 18:02Speaker 1: he said Sheasam is a little fitting your boy, and
- 18:04Speaker 1: he becomes this adult superhero care character were a long way.
- 18:08Speaker 1: You know, there's these kids at this foster home and
- 18:12Speaker 1: you play your your childlike characters. Was one of those kids,
- 18:16Speaker 1: and you eventually in the in the movie at the ends,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and you became an adult version of your child character,
- 18:22Speaker 1: but you still had those childlike characters characteristics. Yeah, talking
- 18:26Speaker 1: talking to us about that, maintaining that little reaching its
- 18:29Speaker 1: side and hold holding onto that little baby Magan. Well,
- 18:34Speaker 1: baby Megan is always in there, you know, and I think,
- 18:39Speaker 1: you know, it might come as more of a shock
- 18:42Speaker 1: to people just because you know, again, like do my twenties.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I was kind of like that sexy girls. People don't
- 18:47Speaker 1: realize often times that there there's there are a lot
- 18:50Speaker 1: of different years and that you know sometimes like the
- 18:53Speaker 1: me in my twenties that was kind of one year
- 18:55Speaker 1: was like, yeah, that's the side of me, you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: but there's so much more. And so the cool thing
- 18:59Speaker 1: about Sasam was like I have started my I had
- 19:02Speaker 1: started my workout journey like maybe barely two years before that,
- 19:06Speaker 1: because I told Devon, I said, they really want to
- 19:08Speaker 1: be a superhero like I want to do like DC
- 19:10Speaker 1: or Marble. And he was like that's great, honey. What
- 19:13Speaker 1: are you doing to meet? Got halfway and I said
- 19:15Speaker 1: what in my mind you? I had my glass of
- 19:17Speaker 1: wine in my hand. I'm watching my Scandal or something.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He said, what are you going to meet? The halfway?
- 19:22Speaker 1: And I was like, wow, you're right. Face without work
- 19:25Speaker 1: is dead. Okay. So I said my little self to
- 19:28Speaker 1: the gym. I got a trainer, I changed my eating habits,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I cut back on my wine. I started working out
- 19:34Speaker 1: like five times a week for about a year and
- 19:36Speaker 1: a half, and then I got this audition for Shasam
- 19:38Speaker 1: I didn't even know what it was. I had no
- 19:41Speaker 1: idea it was a superhero movie. I was just going
- 19:43Speaker 1: in there and being a seven year old and then
- 19:46Speaker 1: I get the call that I got the part, and
- 19:48Speaker 1: I was like, so, what is it. They're like Shazamn.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I was like, oh, Kazam was like shocks back in
- 19:52Speaker 1: the day. They're like, no, shazamne and I looked it up.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I was like, wait, what this is superhero movie? And
- 19:58Speaker 1: I like, I did you not? I bust out crying.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I was like in the middle of a strip mall.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I was like say, yeah, yeah, that's on a crying
- 20:07Speaker 1: outside of like a nutrition store. Like ran in and
- 20:10Speaker 1: told like the lady behind the counters like, I just
- 20:12Speaker 1: gotta you've seen movie and she's like, oh forgot. I
- 20:14Speaker 1: mean it's like and it was crazy because it was
- 20:16Speaker 1: the perfect thing for me, because you know, this type
- 20:19Speaker 1: of superhero where we actually our children that hasn't been
- 20:22Speaker 1: done that and it's a it's a very fresh take
- 20:24Speaker 1: and it's something that I can do. I've been doing
- 20:27Speaker 1: a little kid voices like my whole life. People just
- 20:29Speaker 1: don't only see that side of me. So it was
- 20:31Speaker 1: like the perfect purpose superhero for me and perfect kind
- 20:33Speaker 1: of blessing from God, and also a testimony, a testament
- 20:37Speaker 1: for like meeting God halfway and him saying, Okay, here
- 20:40Speaker 1: you go do the work, and I provide the way
- 20:43Speaker 1: and the opportunity, and you people, you'll be ready for
- 20:45Speaker 1: the opportunity. You know. I'm gonna just tell you that
- 20:48Speaker 1: I've seen since I Am at least six times. I'm
- 20:51Speaker 1: just a guy. I've seen that ending probably about ten
- 20:53Speaker 1: times because it's just so cute and when you and
- 20:56Speaker 1: all the characters recognized that they go to adulthood, and
- 20:59Speaker 1: when you somehow it works so perfectly for you and
- 21:03Speaker 1: you just you gotta downpack congratulations. I just want to
- 21:06Speaker 1: just tell you that dis congratulated. It's it's it's believable.
- 21:10Speaker 1: It's very cute. It makes me smile. Even when I'm
- 21:13Speaker 1: talking to you about right now. I'm smiling because it's
- 21:16Speaker 1: just one of my favorite parts of the movie. And
- 21:18Speaker 1: I can't wait to exam too, because I know that
- 21:20Speaker 1: character is gonna be fleshed out a little bit more
- 21:22Speaker 1: and we'll see it a lot earlier than the movie
- 21:25Speaker 1: instead of the end of the movie. And I don't
- 21:26Speaker 1: feel I'm giving away the movie. If anybody has not
- 21:28Speaker 1: seen it, maybe you'll watch it now because when you
- 21:30Speaker 1: get to that part of the movie, you'll be smiling
- 21:32Speaker 1: just like Rashan McDonald. I want to make a trader.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I want to make a transition to you, to you,
- 21:37Speaker 1: you and your husband. On the cover of the book
- 21:39Speaker 1: to Wait. First of all, compliments to both of you guys.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Very attractive couple. Y'all look fantastic. It's called The Way,
- 21:48Speaker 1: A Powerful practice for finding the love of your life
- 21:51Speaker 1: and the life you love. Why did you write this
- 21:55Speaker 1: book with him? Um? It's interesting because the short version is,
- 22:02Speaker 1: you know, when Devon and I got together, Um, I
- 22:05Speaker 1: just came out of a kind of a verbally abusive relationship.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And it wasn't just the other person, it was both
- 22:10Speaker 1: of us. We were not good for each other. But um,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I literally said, Lord, what am I supposed to be doing?
- 22:16Speaker 1: And he told me three things. He said, get out
- 22:19Speaker 1: of that relationship. I need you to be celibant, and
- 22:23Speaker 1: Devon is your husband, and I said divine is. And
- 22:27Speaker 1: I was like wait, And I was like, what am
- 22:28Speaker 1: I supposed to do? And God was just like nothing,
- 22:30Speaker 1: just work on yourself. So from that point forward, I
- 22:33Speaker 1: worked on becoming celibant. I wasn't you know, successful immediately,
- 22:36Speaker 1: but ultimately I was. And about a few months into it,
- 22:40Speaker 1: about five months into getting that revelation, I told a
- 22:42Speaker 1: friend of mine that Divon was my husband. And she said, oh, girl,
- 22:45Speaker 1: she's you know he's a preacher, right. I said no,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and I said, well, I thought would have scared me away,
- 22:51Speaker 1: but I know what God told me, so it's okay.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And I said and I said, and you know, um,
- 22:55Speaker 1: she said, you know that he's celibant, right And I said, well,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I'm celibant too. She said, no, girl, he's for real selibank. Yes.
- 23:04Speaker 1: So because he was preaching, he had been selevant for years. Um.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And she was like, yeah, you and you you're few
- 23:10Speaker 1: months girl? Yeah? Whatever you know anyways, and so um,
- 23:14Speaker 1: when Divided and I got together, it was like, you know,
- 23:17Speaker 1: it was we were sublevant for that for our our
- 23:19Speaker 1: year together before we got married. And it was the
- 23:22Speaker 1: best experience of my life because I got to know
- 23:25Speaker 1: him the way that it's like I got to know
- 23:28Speaker 1: him in like four months, the way it took me
- 23:29Speaker 1: to get to know someone in four years. And that's
- 23:32Speaker 1: because there was no It was intimacy in terms of
- 23:36Speaker 1: like emotion and spiritually, but there was no physical intimacy
- 23:40Speaker 1: it that way. So really all I had to do
- 23:42Speaker 1: was desides, Do I like you as a human being?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Do I enjoy being with you? Do I want to
- 23:46Speaker 1: spend a lifetime with you? Are you? Are you about
- 23:49Speaker 1: the same thing as in life? Are we going to
- 23:50Speaker 1: the same place? We compliment each other in their purpose?
- 23:53Speaker 1: So all that stuff was so clear because there was
- 23:56Speaker 1: no distractions. That the reason we ended up writing the
- 23:58Speaker 1: book it is because people kept asking us about it
- 24:01Speaker 1: and you know, we'll tell them the story whatever, and
- 24:03Speaker 1: they were like, we really would love to have a
- 24:05Speaker 1: book about this, and the like, I guess we'll just
- 24:07Speaker 1: will write a book. Not to be preachy and I
- 24:09Speaker 1: tell people to do, but to tell them what our
- 24:11Speaker 1: experience was and just to be transparent about that. And
- 24:14Speaker 1: if it helps someone and blessing someone great, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 1: and well I'm ben't even helping a lot of people.
- 24:20Speaker 1: There's two things I want to bring out about the book.
- 24:22Speaker 1: The way, it's not about sex, but it begins with sex.
- 24:25Speaker 1: It's a book about relationships. And one of my favorite
- 24:29Speaker 1: lines in the book is this um the way the
- 24:32Speaker 1: way you stop is okay, in your book, the way
- 24:36Speaker 1: you stop stop picking and choosing which parts of the
- 24:39Speaker 1: Bible you will follow. I read that and I just
- 24:42Speaker 1: bust out laughing, because not only do is does that
- 24:45Speaker 1: line apply to me, but so many people we go,
- 24:48Speaker 1: we'll do this. It's too much work to do everything,
- 24:51Speaker 1: so I'm gonna follow this over here. But as you say,
- 24:55Speaker 1: you can't part time follow God. Yeah that's what you're saying. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's the biggest thing is that
- 25:03Speaker 1: I think we do tend to pick and choose, and
- 25:06Speaker 1: especially as it pertains the sex, because we feel like, well,
- 25:09Speaker 1: you lord, you have to understand this party. You gave
- 25:12Speaker 1: us some parties. You know you don't want to do it.
- 25:14Speaker 1: You know, all the Christians and things, is doing it
- 25:16Speaker 1: not come all? And you make you know, just like
- 25:20Speaker 1: when I when I first left my virginity, I you know,
- 25:22Speaker 1: I said I'll wait till I'm gonna get married. I
- 25:24Speaker 1: left my virginity at nineteen and it was later than
- 25:27Speaker 1: most of my friends. But it was also like I
- 25:29Speaker 1: was like, well, this is my first love. I'm gonna
- 25:30Speaker 1: marry him, so you know it's my husband anyways, and
- 25:32Speaker 1: the point it wasn't um, but I realized, you know,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I lived my life like every times where I felt
- 25:39Speaker 1: bad and I would like repent and I would not
- 25:41Speaker 1: have sex for months, and then you know, and it
- 25:43Speaker 1: just I realized that I was really picking and choosing
- 25:46Speaker 1: and giving myself license instead of saying, let me just
- 25:49Speaker 1: try to do the hardest thing that there is to
- 25:51Speaker 1: do in terms of the commandments, and let's see how
- 25:54Speaker 1: that goes. And what I realized is the once I
- 25:56Speaker 1: conquered that, and I found that discipline within myself for
- 26:01Speaker 1: delaid gratification and to not pick and choose. It gave
- 26:05Speaker 1: me the freedom and the power to have more self
- 26:08Speaker 1: control over so many areas. I hated working out, and
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know it was never gonna happen because the discipline
- 26:15Speaker 1: I learned from the weight is why I was able
- 26:18Speaker 1: to work out, which ultimately resulted in Shazam and ultimately
- 26:21Speaker 1: resulted in me about to be thirty nine. I'm in
- 26:23Speaker 1: the best shape of my life because my lifestyle changed,
- 26:26Speaker 1: because my discipline change because of the way. So it's
- 26:29Speaker 1: not just relationships, it's it's across the board. It changed
- 26:32Speaker 1: my life because you guys got out with correct and
- 26:39Speaker 1: I have to say, i'd have to say, like I said,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'm a fan of yours. I have to say that
- 26:43Speaker 1: period between and now I have to say, it's been
- 26:47Speaker 1: the most the best part of your career. I don't
- 26:51Speaker 1: want to be sound insulting. I'm talking about the movies,
- 26:54Speaker 1: the films, the projects, your your brand, your your your
- 26:59Speaker 1: bill of your luck. You glow. You know when you're
- 27:03Speaker 1: with your husband, y'all, you glow. And that comes back
- 27:07Speaker 1: to discipline and honesty with yourself. And that is my
- 27:11Speaker 1: That is one of the takeaways that I had with
- 27:13Speaker 1: the book to Wait And if you don't mind it's
- 27:16Speaker 1: it's because it's on my shelf at my home because
- 27:19Speaker 1: I gave it to my daughter. She read it, and
- 27:21Speaker 1: I have a home in Houston and Atlanta. Have it
- 27:24Speaker 1: keep it in my Atlanta home. Uh is still available
- 27:27Speaker 1: to be bought the book, Yeah, yeah, Amazon, just about anywhere.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So if you if you feel a little surge in
- 27:37Speaker 1: book sales, because Roushan McDonald's gonna do this. I have
- 27:40Speaker 1: an eighty thousand fans fan Club email newsletter I sent
- 27:43Speaker 1: out every Friday at nine am. I'm gonna put this
- 27:47Speaker 1: book in my news letter. Okay, and because I feel
- 27:52Speaker 1: that there's so many inconsistencies I've had in my life
- 27:56Speaker 1: and one of the things that doing money making Conversations
- 27:58Speaker 1: has allowed me to. You know, I made a lot
- 28:01Speaker 1: of people famous, I made a lot of corporations money
- 28:04Speaker 1: in my life. But what I've what I've done is
- 28:06Speaker 1: found with Sean McDonald and I just talking to you
- 28:10Speaker 1: on this doing this interview, it's just so fulfilling to
- 28:14Speaker 1: me because of the fact that you got it, Megan,
- 28:18Speaker 1: you you you you clearly are comfortable with yourself. You
- 28:22Speaker 1: clearly are happy with yourself, and you're a beautiful person.
- 28:25Speaker 1: That's that's a that's awesome. Congratulations. Wow, that bless me.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Thank thank you, thank you for that. You know, I
- 28:33Speaker 1: have to be honest because of the fact that and
- 28:35Speaker 1: I try to do this show and and expose people.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Be uh when I when I dropped the whole idea
- 28:40Speaker 1: of money making conversations. You know, we may talk about
- 28:43Speaker 1: your career, why you talk about this when the people
- 28:45Speaker 1: come on the show, But I always want to pull
- 28:47Speaker 1: back the curtain so people can just talk. And I
- 28:49Speaker 1: want to play no music. I have no ambush questions.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I just want them to just really talk and this
- 28:55Speaker 1: is gonna be well received in my platform, this interview
- 28:57Speaker 1: and you're just special. I just wanted to keep winning
- 29:00Speaker 1: and uh, and I'd like to get your husband voone
- 29:02Speaker 1: on the show to talk about it. Like I have
- 29:05Speaker 1: something that call a power Couples. I bring power couples
- 29:07Speaker 1: on my show together so they can talk. And uh.
- 29:10Speaker 1: That's a very popular series I have with money making conversations.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But more importantly, you know, you know you made me happy.
- 29:17Speaker 1: We're gonna do exam to You're coming back in that.
- 29:20Speaker 1: You're standing in shape, so you're gonna be ready for that.
- 29:22Speaker 1: The girl girl raps. You know, we sold that in
- 29:24Speaker 1: certain things right now, but we're gonna get that up
- 29:26Speaker 1: and running because guess what, I'm gonna put that in
- 29:28Speaker 1: my newsletter. That means sold. That's a good thing. Make
- 29:30Speaker 1: it sold, that's a good thing. You have a good,
- 29:33Speaker 1: great good foundation. But that you started with your sister
- 29:35Speaker 1: that's doing great things and the and the weight is
- 29:38Speaker 1: a blessing that I want to put back that put
- 29:41Speaker 1: out there in my platform to the world. Eight percent
- 29:43Speaker 1: of my followers are female and they need to hear
- 29:46Speaker 1: the word, and the word is being delivered by you
- 29:48Speaker 1: and your husband, and it's a written word. And guess
- 29:51Speaker 1: what the Bible is written word, not saying it's the Bible,
- 29:54Speaker 1: but the reflections of the reflections of what you're talking about.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I guide it from the word, and that's important that
- 30:01Speaker 1: people need to read and also share. And I want
- 30:03Speaker 1: to thank you for calling my show making. Yeah, I
- 30:07Speaker 1: want to thank you for even thinking to have me
- 30:09Speaker 1: and wanting to out me, and thank you for affirming
- 30:12Speaker 1: me as well importing into me as well, because it
- 30:15Speaker 1: seems like a small thing to say the things that
- 30:17Speaker 1: you said, but it's not. And I really appreciate it
- 30:20Speaker 1: and I really received it. And I thank you for
- 30:22Speaker 1: having you with my hands. My hands are put together
- 30:25Speaker 1: my borrowing forward and a blessed state and a prepare
- 30:28Speaker 1: like state because we will talk again in the future.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Be safe during these pandemic times. Tell your husband high
- 30:35Speaker 1: and anytime you want to promote I might have them
- 30:37Speaker 1: reach out and if they can get some art work
- 30:39Speaker 1: or something like that. I just want to put anything
- 30:41Speaker 1: tack out there, especially about your wraps and all this stuff.
- 30:43Speaker 1: We were staying close with my staff to make sure
- 30:46Speaker 1: that anytime you're releasing the thing in a movie and
- 30:48Speaker 1: the sitcom. Anything you do in television or as an entrepreneur,
- 30:52Speaker 1: all with your foundation, bring it to me so I
- 30:54Speaker 1: can promote it. It's not about I don't charge you
- 30:57Speaker 1: the money with my social media. I just want to
- 30:59Speaker 1: spread love and litter. I know that you can win,
- 31:01Speaker 1: and you win it through relationships, and that's what you're preaching.
- 31:04Speaker 1: A young lady. Keep on preaching. Thank you, Thank you
- 31:13Speaker 1: to play here. We've been preaching on this showy make conversation. Okay,
- 31:19Speaker 1: we talked soon, all right, thank you. It's finally here.

- 33:31Speaker 1: author of I Once Was Her. She is famous with
- 33:35Speaker 1: Me and the Mamager or a talent manager to wrapp
- 33:38Speaker 1: her film and television star lil Ba. Wow. Please, welcome
- 33:41Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversation entrepreneur and author Teresa Cardwell, Hi guys,
- 33:48Speaker 1: how are you? Hihi Atrisa? How you doing? My friend?
- 33:52Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm so blessed. It's been a long time, right,
- 33:55Speaker 1: it's been you know, it's really interesting. Let's let's go
- 33:59Speaker 1: back and give a history of how we met. We
- 34:01Speaker 1: met in Los Angeles a little by and by a
- 34:04Speaker 1: thousand people came into the Steve Harvard Morning Shows radio
- 34:07Speaker 1: booth and that was the first thing counter we met.
- 34:09Speaker 1: You know, it's a rising star and uh in the business,
- 34:13Speaker 1: and uh I like to believe that Steve and I helped, uh,
- 34:16Speaker 1: you know, fuel his success by supporting him in the music.
- 34:20Speaker 1: But you stood out because you were his talent manager
- 34:23Speaker 1: and still the talent managers today. Correct, Yes, well right now,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I only managed television and film, and I do like
- 34:31Speaker 1: branding and marketing. Awesome, awesome, So talk about you know,
- 34:35Speaker 1: first of all, you're coming on the book, coming on show,
- 34:37Speaker 1: talking about the book. I once was her. I read
- 34:39Speaker 1: the book a very good read, very fast read, because
- 34:41Speaker 1: of the fact, because of the fact. You know, if
- 34:44Speaker 1: when you read the book, Teresa Um, if this was
- 34:48Speaker 1: a play, if it was a dramatic play, because you
- 34:53Speaker 1: introduced different people who are important relationships in your life,
- 34:58Speaker 1: I would sit. That would put you in the middle
- 34:59Speaker 1: of room, and I have a spotlight on you, and
- 35:02Speaker 1: the entire room will be dark, okay, and then a
- 35:06Speaker 1: light would shine on Curtis Martin. He stand up, and
- 35:09Speaker 1: he says, and then a night was signed up on
- 35:12Speaker 1: another person. They stand up. Because that's how that was
- 35:14Speaker 1: the feeling that I had when I read the book,
- 35:17Speaker 1: because it felt like various levels of testimonials about not long.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I mean, they're just one of some of them one pages,
- 35:24Speaker 1: some of them were two or three pages, the little
- 35:27Speaker 1: and so, but they were important because they described layers
- 35:30Speaker 1: in your life. There the changes in your life, and
- 35:34Speaker 1: how they were important. So talk about the the angle
- 35:38Speaker 1: and the thought and putting that did I described the
- 35:42Speaker 1: approach to your book from a theatrical standpoint, right, Yes,
- 35:46Speaker 1: you did, you did? And see what the reason why
- 35:49Speaker 1: I chose to write the book that way. First of all,
- 35:51Speaker 1: I'm not a big reader, right, so I wanted to
- 35:55Speaker 1: make my book different because I wanted to catch you know,
- 35:57Speaker 1: my readers. I wanted them because you know, a lot
- 35:59Speaker 1: of times were the book. We'll start reading a book
- 36:01Speaker 1: to put it down. But I wanted my book to
- 36:03Speaker 1: be an easy read. So I'm so glad that you
- 36:05Speaker 1: got that. You took that from the book. I wanted
- 36:07Speaker 1: to be an easy read, and I wanted it to
- 36:10Speaker 1: I wanted my readers to feel what I went through.
- 36:13Speaker 1: And I wanted each one of my friends to write
- 36:16Speaker 1: something about me, like what did they experience with me
- 36:20Speaker 1: or by me being their friends? And I picked the
- 36:23Speaker 1: I picked the girls who were you know, who are
- 36:26Speaker 1: the closest to me to start each chapter. And I
- 36:29Speaker 1: picked Curtis Martin to do my forward because that's my brother,
- 36:33Speaker 1: and he knows everything about me. Right. Well, you know
- 36:35Speaker 1: the thing about the book, uh, and I'd say it's
- 36:38Speaker 1: a testimonial, it's a it's a shout out to UH survival.
- 36:45Speaker 1: It's out overcoming the odds, single parenting from a woman's perspective,
- 36:54Speaker 1: choosing the right mate, and also more importantly the importance
- 36:59Speaker 1: of fatherhood UH in a young girl's life. Because I
- 37:04Speaker 1: have a daughter, she's twenty two, and I always, I
- 37:09Speaker 1: always have the firm belief that she's going to pick
- 37:11Speaker 1: a version of me when she goes out there making
- 37:14Speaker 1: her selection process. And so I'm very conscious in my
- 37:18Speaker 1: communications with her. She can talk to me about anything. Uh.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I will stop when I'm doing if she had if
- 37:25Speaker 1: she wants my attention, not because I'm trying to baby her.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I just want to know what's through her mind because
- 37:29Speaker 1: she may have a question they might shape especially when
- 37:31Speaker 1: you're young. When you're young, you just grab information that
- 37:34Speaker 1: people don't understand that that information that people grabs as
- 37:37Speaker 1: a young person will hang can hang through to them
- 37:40Speaker 1: for the rest of their lives. And so and that
- 37:43Speaker 1: was you you know your your your father who's now deceased.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Play you know he was played an important role in
- 37:48Speaker 1: shaping you initially, and let's talk about that. That the
- 37:52Speaker 1: importance of a male figure in your life at an
- 37:54Speaker 1: early age. I feel like, for me, and I only
- 37:59Speaker 1: speak for my experiences, I feel like, for me, as
- 38:04Speaker 1: a little girl, the first man that we will love
- 38:07Speaker 1: as our father. I feel like that love that we
- 38:12Speaker 1: get from our father or a father figure is so
- 38:15Speaker 1: key until a little girl when she grows up, because
- 38:18Speaker 1: that's the type of man that she's going to search for.
- 38:20Speaker 1: So for me, I didn't have that type of father love.
- 38:25Speaker 1: So I I searched for what I knew and the
- 38:29Speaker 1: and I searched for the love that I that I
- 38:31Speaker 1: got from my father, and it wasn't the best love.
- 38:34Speaker 1: So I attracted, you know, men who treated me kind
- 38:38Speaker 1: of like my father, who were verbally abusive, who felt
- 38:43Speaker 1: like I wasn't good enough, who I always tried to
- 38:46Speaker 1: prove to my father that I was going to be
- 38:49Speaker 1: great and it was just hard. So for me, those
- 38:55Speaker 1: are the type of men that I chose, you know,
- 38:58Speaker 1: my younger age. I chose those type of guys. And
- 39:02Speaker 1: then I also chose the type of guys that my
- 39:05Speaker 1: mother dated. And my mother dated abusers, so I watched
- 39:09Speaker 1: my mother get abused, so I attracted abusers because that's
- 39:15Speaker 1: what I knew. And so with me, I had to
- 39:18Speaker 1: stop the cycle. So there was the time I would
- 39:22Speaker 1: never remember. I would never forget it when I got
- 39:24Speaker 1: beat so bad that my ex guide the abuser, he
- 39:28Speaker 1: knocks my I looked like the elephant man's little sister,
- 39:33Speaker 1: Like that's why. Yeah, And so for me just looking
- 39:37Speaker 1: at my face and just look at my body, just
- 39:40Speaker 1: look at how I looked. And I had to lie
- 39:42Speaker 1: to my son and tell my son that I fell
- 39:44Speaker 1: down the stairs. And from that point, yeah, from that point,
- 39:48Speaker 1: I was just like, you know what, I gotta break
- 39:49Speaker 1: the cycle. Like I don't want to be anything like
- 39:52Speaker 1: my mother, and I don't want to dake anything like
- 39:54Speaker 1: the guys my mom dated and I And so that
- 39:58Speaker 1: right there was a wake up call for me. Know,
- 40:00Speaker 1: let's let's talk about that. Because I know when he
- 40:02Speaker 1: when he abused you, you even called his father, and
- 40:05Speaker 1: his father came over and he saw what he had
- 40:07Speaker 1: done to you physically, he told him he would beat
- 40:10Speaker 1: him up if he did that to you again. And
- 40:12Speaker 1: guess what, he still did it anyway, And so so
- 40:15Speaker 1: what people don't understand about abuse. And I'm not saying
- 40:18Speaker 1: I'm an expert expert an expert in abuse. It is
- 40:21Speaker 1: a book, but there's a journey. There's years like you
- 40:24Speaker 1: got kicked out of the house when you were stiff
- 40:26Speaker 1: team because the fact that the boar friend that was
- 40:29Speaker 1: dating your mom at the time was physically beating her
- 40:32Speaker 1: up and your only recourse was to call the police.
- 40:35Speaker 1: They arrested him from the mom, like the most domestic situations,
- 40:39Speaker 1: sided with the man and told him that you had
- 40:42Speaker 1: to go, and you were thrown out with no guidance, snow,
- 40:46Speaker 1: no support system. If your mom had four sisters, they
- 40:49Speaker 1: didn't want anything to do with you, and the state
- 40:51Speaker 1: of Ohio was not only became a prison for you
- 40:54Speaker 1: because you didn't know what to go, We had no
- 40:55Speaker 1: options you you might as well have been in jail
- 40:58Speaker 1: because you didn't have any support and so so so
- 41:01Speaker 1: it's just struggling to find yourself. And then along the way,
- 41:04Speaker 1: of course you got pregnant. Twife one of the second
- 41:06Speaker 1: child was And so love is really interesting when I
- 41:11Speaker 1: read about it in your book, because there is emotional love,
- 41:14Speaker 1: and there's physical love, and then there's loving yourself let's
- 41:18Speaker 1: let's talk about the emotional love and let's talk about
- 41:21Speaker 1: the physical love in that order, because the emotional love
- 41:24Speaker 1: of what you were trying to get from your parents
- 41:25Speaker 1: and you didn't get it. Yeah, the emotional Yeah, the
- 41:28Speaker 1: emotional love that I was searching for. You're absolutely right,
- 41:31Speaker 1: was the love that I was trying to get from
- 41:33Speaker 1: my mother and my father, and I didn't get that.
- 41:37Speaker 1: And then you can continue, Teresa, I apologize. Yeah, so
- 41:43Speaker 1: so so when you when you were searching for that
- 41:45Speaker 1: emotional love, it's really hard where you don't get that
- 41:51Speaker 1: from your your parents, Like I didn't get it, right,
- 41:55Speaker 1: I didn't get it searching for it, and it was
- 41:57Speaker 1: sad because of the fact that you know I'm talking.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Just just set up everybody talking to Teresa Caldwell. She's
- 42:03Speaker 1: the author of the new book and it's uh. You
- 42:04Speaker 1: can order pre ordered right now. It's called I Once
- 42:07Speaker 1: was her Um. It would be out officially in June
- 42:10Speaker 1: June this year. Uh. It's a good book to I'll
- 42:13Speaker 1: tell people are there now. But because of you, ared,
- 42:16Speaker 1: she become a New York Times bestseller based on the
- 42:18Speaker 1: pre orders, because boom, you know, I know the system
- 42:21Speaker 1: a system and so, but one of the things that
- 42:24Speaker 1: when I'm when I'm reading the book and we're about
- 42:25Speaker 1: to close out this first break, is that you know,
- 42:29Speaker 1: as a man, I felt helpless reading your story because
- 42:33Speaker 1: as a man, I would not have done any of
- 42:35Speaker 1: these things to any woman, not let alone you. So
- 42:39Speaker 1: so when you when you when these men try to
- 42:41Speaker 1: play what you consider an important role in your life
- 42:44Speaker 1: and you accept that they're gonna abuse you, when is
- 42:47Speaker 1: the acceptance becomes okay to an abuse it or do
- 42:52Speaker 1: you even know when it's okay you just accepted? Can
- 42:55Speaker 1: you answer that question? You know what, like speak to
- 43:00Speaker 1: my experiences, like you really don't know. I didn't know
- 43:07Speaker 1: because I just accepted it. I accepted it because I
- 43:11Speaker 1: felt like for me, because I saw that going up.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I felt like that abuse, the hits and all that stuff.
- 43:18Speaker 1: At the beginning, I felt like that was his way
- 43:21Speaker 1: of showing me that he loved me. You know, I
- 43:24Speaker 1: felt like that was his way of showing me that
- 43:26Speaker 1: he loved me because in my mind, I felt like,
- 43:28Speaker 1: oh my god, because I saw my mother go through it.
- 43:30Speaker 1: I felt like when he hit me and then like
- 43:35Speaker 1: he would apologize and be like I only did that
- 43:38Speaker 1: because you know, I want you to know that I
- 43:40Speaker 1: care for you, I care about you, I love you.
- 43:43Speaker 1: That's the only way. That's why I did it. So
- 43:46Speaker 1: that's what happens. Like for me, that's what I thought, like,
- 43:49Speaker 1: oh my god at the beginning, like he believe loves me.
- 43:51Speaker 1: I was young, but he loves me. To hit me,
- 43:55Speaker 1: to abuse me, he loves me, and to keep coming
- 43:58Speaker 1: back and supporting it. Yeah, what's the blind slide. But
- 44:01Speaker 1: the sad part about it is that you were young.
- 44:03Speaker 1: We have women in the thirties, for these fifties and
- 44:05Speaker 1: sixties that are dealing with these situations. I'm talking to
- 44:08Speaker 1: Teresa car World, This beautiful, well put together woman has
- 44:11Speaker 1: had her share of tears and mountains to climb. Teresa's
- 44:15Speaker 1: book is a Row, Row, Look a Row, looking to
- 44:17Speaker 1: the dark side of her life growing up before fame
- 44:20Speaker 1: and fortune, and that tells the story of rejection, abandonment,
- 44:24Speaker 1: and physical abuse. Will be right back with more. We're
- 44:26Speaker 1: talking about her online taste, online boutique, but more important,
- 44:30Speaker 1: a testimony of overcoming the odds, a testimony of realizing
- 44:34Speaker 1: that one has to love themselves first in order to
- 44:39Speaker 1: understand the path out of the domestic abuse. You have
- 44:42Speaker 1: to look in the mirror and said, look, I am important.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I am the person that should be on top of
- 44:46Speaker 1: this game. If you don't ever admit that to yourself,
- 44:50Speaker 1: you will always be in a state of abuse. Not
- 44:53Speaker 1: by your not because somebody is giving it to it,
- 44:55Speaker 1: because you are accepting it the beauty of it. Like
- 44:57Speaker 1: I said, we met in Los Angeles. U came into
- 45:00Speaker 1: the radio studio, and uh, I always thought we had
- 45:02Speaker 1: a good relationship because I understood I was a talented
- 45:06Speaker 1: manager for then Steve Harvey and dealing with all the
- 45:09Speaker 1: ins and out. But you are mom manager, which is
- 45:12Speaker 1: a different perspective because of the fact that you know
- 45:15Speaker 1: as a manager, you you you basically I was the father, priest, accountant, uh, motivator,
- 45:23Speaker 1: crisis guy, and so to have an actual relationship with
- 45:27Speaker 1: a young man like like wow, and then to send
- 45:31Speaker 1: him off at a very early age under the under
- 45:35Speaker 1: the chair of Suge Knight, under the care and guiding
- 45:39Speaker 1: some snoop dog. Talk about that moment and all those
- 45:44Speaker 1: moments because you had to be uh like biting your
- 45:48Speaker 1: fingernails on that one. But you have no options, I know,
- 45:52Speaker 1: you know what like for me like it was. It
- 45:54Speaker 1: was fun. I must say it was. It was fun
- 45:58Speaker 1: um and I recognized early on and that you know,
- 46:00Speaker 1: Bod was smart ize I recognized his talent. And I
- 46:05Speaker 1: also it was his dream. You know, it was a dream.
- 46:09Speaker 1: So what I did was I was like, you know what,
- 46:12Speaker 1: this is something that he wants to do. This is
- 46:14Speaker 1: his gift. So as a parent, I wanted to make
- 46:18Speaker 1: sure he was able to live out his dream. So
- 46:21Speaker 1: I trusted Snoop. I trusted shuld like the relationship that
- 46:26Speaker 1: I had with Shugg you know back in the day,
- 46:27Speaker 1: like I didn't like. I had a great relationship with
- 46:30Speaker 1: all of them, and they all looked out for Bout's
- 46:33Speaker 1: best interest even when I wasn't around, you know. So
- 46:37Speaker 1: it was all about trust and it was all about God.
- 46:39Speaker 1: I thought that God was in it. So I feel
- 46:41Speaker 1: like when God is in it, you feel safe. So
- 46:44Speaker 1: I felt like God was in it and it was
- 46:46Speaker 1: his gift. Well, I love it. I loved it. But
- 46:49Speaker 1: where Snoop comes to you go, you know, some I
- 46:51Speaker 1: really not. I really am not a good example or
- 46:54Speaker 1: role model because I know Snoop and and he Snoop
- 47:02Speaker 1: will smoke some weed. People understand he was the brother
- 47:05Speaker 1: is a no It's like America has caught up with Snoop,
- 47:08Speaker 1: which is really funny because he was not gonna change.
- 47:11Speaker 1: He confessed publicly all the time he did it. And
- 47:13Speaker 1: now when you're seeing that it's being being sold and
- 47:16Speaker 1: stores for medical reasons or just clear for just for
- 47:20Speaker 1: for sale with profit reason, you have CBD and all
- 47:23Speaker 1: these different uh, instead of being brought out because of
- 47:27Speaker 1: marijuana usage. It's really amazing. But when Snoop I read
- 47:31Speaker 1: that part of the book that I went that Snoop
- 47:32Speaker 1: because one thing about Snooper there is a there's a
- 47:35Speaker 1: business side to him. He is a family man who
- 47:37Speaker 1: if everybody's father's life, you see, he is a family man. Okay,
- 47:41Speaker 1: he is a family man. And so he came to
- 47:44Speaker 1: you and anybody know his whole career how he has
- 47:46Speaker 1: been a mentor or I want to stand like a
- 47:49Speaker 1: pseudo father for the community by starting the football league
- 47:52Speaker 1: and many young men he's helped to get scholarships and
- 47:56Speaker 1: in college football has been a testament to him. But
- 47:59Speaker 1: let's go to you in particular. You know that you know,
- 48:03Speaker 1: like you said, you you started dating hood dudes and
- 48:06Speaker 1: then you started dating pro athletes, you know, and youre
- 48:09Speaker 1: getting into this theme. You went from the hood dudes
- 48:13Speaker 1: you know who was out there, you know, beating you,
- 48:16Speaker 1: selling drugs. But your lifestyle was uh, you know, it
- 48:21Speaker 1: was there. You didn't have all benefits of the lifestyle,
- 48:24Speaker 1: but at least you had the lifestyle. And then you
- 48:26Speaker 1: went to the athletes, which is also a confusing world
- 48:31Speaker 1: because you know, it's a competitive world because you know,
- 48:33Speaker 1: they go from different city of the city. So let's
- 48:35Speaker 1: talk about where you came from. Okay, at fifteen, you
- 48:38Speaker 1: got kicked out of the house, then you got pregnant. Unfortunately, sadly,
- 48:42Speaker 1: you lost your first child. Then you hadow and then
- 48:45Speaker 1: you start raising them, and then all of a sudden
- 48:47Speaker 1: you got this young man was taken care of. He's
- 48:50Speaker 1: kind of like the first far the figure for Bow
- 48:52Speaker 1: Wow and uh and but he was into drugs. And
- 48:56Speaker 1: then you decided, hey, you know something, I'm gonna do
- 48:59Speaker 1: it too because I got to pay off this debt.
- 49:02Speaker 1: And we won't get any more detail. Read the book.
- 49:04Speaker 1: It's fantastic how she is showing you when you cornered
- 49:09Speaker 1: in the state of desperation, you can start crying, but
- 49:12Speaker 1: have a plan while you're crying because one thing I
- 49:14Speaker 1: took away from this book is that you if you're
- 49:17Speaker 1: in a crisis situation, especially in a violent crisis situation,
- 49:21Speaker 1: you gotta have a plan B. And that's what you
- 49:24Speaker 1: say a lot the reason you stayed in so long.
- 49:27Speaker 1: You never had a plan B. When you got that
- 49:29Speaker 1: plan B, you got out. I got up. Yes, yes,
- 49:33Speaker 1: that is so true. Um. I I felt like, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 1: when I got myself in a situation, of course I
- 49:40Speaker 1: didn't have a I didn't have a plan. I didn't
- 49:42Speaker 1: have a plan b RC. So in order to me
- 49:45Speaker 1: to get myself out of the situation, I have to
- 49:48Speaker 1: have a plan. So I stayed in it a lot longer,
- 49:50Speaker 1: and so I got a plan. So once I got
- 49:52Speaker 1: a plan, and you know, that's when I got myself out.
- 49:56Speaker 1: So I went from that, and I, you know what,
- 49:58Speaker 1: I don't don't regret any of the things that I
- 50:02Speaker 1: went through because that the street life made me understand
- 50:07Speaker 1: the entertainment world, because it was kind of to me
- 50:11Speaker 1: back then, it was the same thing. It was just
- 50:13Speaker 1: one was legal and one was illegal. So that's how
- 50:16Speaker 1: I looked at I looked at the music industry back then.
- 50:19Speaker 1: You know, it was. It was. It was brutal. So
- 50:22Speaker 1: I looked at it like, okay, it's the same thing.
- 50:24Speaker 1: It was street dudes one and stuff. You know, it
- 50:27Speaker 1: was the same. So I was built for it. You know,
- 50:29Speaker 1: when they came at me, I was able to, you know,
- 50:32Speaker 1: to to stand up for myself because of what I
- 50:34Speaker 1: had already gone through. So I went from that to dating,
- 50:38Speaker 1: you know, you know dating, well, I went from that
- 50:43Speaker 1: to being married and then once I got my divorce
- 50:46Speaker 1: and that's when I started getting the poor athletes. Was
- 50:50Speaker 1: that you know, with with dating and athletes, like there's
- 50:55Speaker 1: good thing that you know, it comes along with that.
- 50:58Speaker 1: There's a lot of her, Like you said, it gone
- 51:00Speaker 1: a lot and not around. But there's a lot of
- 51:03Speaker 1: parts to that, you know. And and and for me,
- 51:06Speaker 1: for me, you know, I can't sit here and um
- 51:11Speaker 1: and really say like bad things about the guys I dated.
- 51:17Speaker 1: It was just like when I look back at everything,
- 51:19Speaker 1: like all the relationships, you know, I kind of like
- 51:23Speaker 1: was the type of girl who was like, you know,
- 51:25Speaker 1: after going through a marriage and divorce, I was like,
- 51:28Speaker 1: I don't want to be married or have kids or
- 51:32Speaker 1: have kids like I had. That was made up in
- 51:34Speaker 1: my mind, like I don't want to be married and
- 51:36Speaker 1: I don't want to have any children. So for me,
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know, dating me was like it was only it
- 51:43Speaker 1: was only gonna go but so far because I'm making
- 51:46Speaker 1: it known that I don't want to be married, I'm
- 51:48Speaker 1: not having any kids. But you know, it was good
- 51:51Speaker 1: for me to hear that, because that's taking control of
- 51:54Speaker 1: your life to me. You know, that's telling people I
- 51:58Speaker 1: can make a decisions, I can try to myself and
- 52:01Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be determined by a man's being
- 52:04Speaker 1: determined by me. And that's what I you know, I
- 52:06Speaker 1: when I opened up when you when I introduce you
- 52:09Speaker 1: said your your purpose is for women to discover their
- 52:12Speaker 1: true worth. And that's what this book is about. I
- 52:15Speaker 1: once was her. I'm talking to to to Therecha Cardwell,
- 52:19Speaker 1: it's a as a as a memoir about her life
- 52:22Speaker 1: before she was managing. Was kind of like it slid
- 52:26Speaker 1: into when she started when Biba became famous a little
- 52:29Speaker 1: Biba became famous under that name a little by Wall
- 52:31Speaker 1: at the time. But it's really about the beginning and
- 52:34Speaker 1: how I shaped her as a businesswoman because it was
- 52:37Speaker 1: a tough life that she grew up on. It kicked
- 52:40Speaker 1: out of the house of fifteen, had a baby to
- 52:42Speaker 1: think sixteen and another child which is all by wall today,
- 52:47Speaker 1: and raised him. And and what I loved about is
- 52:51Speaker 1: that you didn't allow men to negatively shape your son's
- 52:57Speaker 1: vision because when he had a child, speaking of Shad,
- 53:01Speaker 1: you made sure that he understood his role in that
- 53:05Speaker 1: young girl's life. Talk about that. Yes, I made sure
- 53:10Speaker 1: that when Val had a daughter, because of how hard
- 53:15Speaker 1: it was for me, it was important to me that
- 53:19Speaker 1: I instilled in him that you have to be a
- 53:23Speaker 1: great father, not a good father, but a great father
- 53:27Speaker 1: because you have a daughter, you know, and so and
- 53:30Speaker 1: I told him, like, it is so important because you
- 53:34Speaker 1: will be the first man that she will ever fall
- 53:36Speaker 1: in love with. The way you teach her and the
- 53:39Speaker 1: way you treat her and the way you raised her,
- 53:41Speaker 1: and the way you're in her life, that's going to
- 53:43Speaker 1: set the standards for when she gets older, when she
- 53:47Speaker 1: starts dating, the standards are gonna be so high because
- 53:49Speaker 1: she's gonna be like, you know, my father treated me
- 53:53Speaker 1: like this, my father this, my father that, And I
- 53:57Speaker 1: think that you know, And I told him, like, I
- 54:00Speaker 1: told him that, like it's important. I mean, I know
- 54:03Speaker 1: I probably got on his nerves talking about it all
- 54:05Speaker 1: the time. But I but the relationship that that he
- 54:09Speaker 1: has with his daughter is priceless. Now if you look
- 54:11Speaker 1: at their videos and stuff, you can tell that he
- 54:14Speaker 1: plays a big role in her life and it's all
- 54:18Speaker 1: about love. You can tell, yeah, it's important, it's important.
- 54:24Speaker 1: And then our relationship, like you know, like even with
- 54:27Speaker 1: with my with bal and I like our relationship. The
- 54:29Speaker 1: things that I talked about what we went through a
- 54:31Speaker 1: little bit. I I touched on that a little bit
- 54:33Speaker 1: in the book, like how hard that was, you know, um,
- 54:37Speaker 1: you know, being a mom and being a manager and
- 54:40Speaker 1: you know, trying to step away to two. It did
- 54:42Speaker 1: put a strain in our in our relationship, we did
- 54:44Speaker 1: go through some things, you know, because we want was
- 54:47Speaker 1: best for our children. And then you know, like me,
- 54:50Speaker 1: like my fear was I never wanted my son to
- 54:53Speaker 1: be on drugs, Like that was a fear of rhyme,
- 54:55Speaker 1: you know, and being in the in the industry, like
- 54:57Speaker 1: so much can happen and drugs are like they give
- 55:00Speaker 1: it to him, And that was a big I feared that.
- 55:05Speaker 1: I tried to protect him. And you did a good
- 55:07Speaker 1: job because you in the book you said, I had
- 55:08Speaker 1: to want I had to take off my talent manager
- 55:10Speaker 1: hand and put back on my mama hat because sometimes
- 55:14Speaker 1: you gotta let him know, Look, I brought you into
- 55:16Speaker 1: this world. I have a different level of passion that dude.
- 55:18Speaker 1: The well, he just wants that. Dude, just want to
- 55:20Speaker 1: start our tickets over there, your mama day one, this
- 55:26Speaker 1: day one, that day one, mama right here, they want,
- 55:29Speaker 1: and we'll be here in the end when all this
- 55:31Speaker 1: is going on the way, I'm still gonna be there
- 55:33Speaker 1: for you. And that's what you that's what you stayed
- 55:35Speaker 1: in the book very clearly that yes, I I did
- 55:39Speaker 1: accept the role and the professional role as his talent manager,
- 55:43Speaker 1: but I never lost the mama hat, the mom and
- 55:46Speaker 1: that was really important. Before we get out here, I
- 55:49Speaker 1: want to I want to put on that entrepreneur hat
- 55:51Speaker 1: that that you have here. Taste Online boutique. Tell us
- 55:55Speaker 1: about that. Yes, so I have an online boutique. It's
- 55:59Speaker 1: take online. Well, it's shop taste online dot com. That
- 56:04Speaker 1: I've had that boutique forever. Like my passion is fashion
- 56:08Speaker 1: and I'm also an interior designer, so I people don't know,
- 56:12Speaker 1: like that's where I came from. That world. Like I've
- 56:15Speaker 1: been an inserted designer for for years, so I'm back
- 56:19Speaker 1: into that full time now. They kind of brought me
- 56:20Speaker 1: out of retirement and I do a lot of entertain
- 56:23Speaker 1: at homes, like you know, a lot of athletes is
- 56:26Speaker 1: like my number one client, So I do a lot
- 56:28Speaker 1: of those homes in my store. Is you know, I
- 56:31Speaker 1: have a passion for fashion. I love to see my
- 56:34Speaker 1: girls feel good and look good in what they wear. Awesome. Uh.
- 56:39Speaker 1: The book, I won't recommend everybody to go out, and
- 56:42Speaker 1: not just because of It's not a book to read
- 56:45Speaker 1: about the dark side of abused, the drama of being
- 56:52Speaker 1: able to overcome the odds. It's about a person, and
- 56:57Speaker 1: a relatable person, a young woman who was thrown onto
- 57:01Speaker 1: a world of darkness. No instructions on how to be
- 57:04Speaker 1: a young woman, No instructures on how to be a
- 57:07Speaker 1: young mom, No instructures on how to be a lady,
- 57:10Speaker 1: No instructions on how to accept and understand why I'm
- 57:13Speaker 1: being abused, no instructures on how to create a b plan.
- 57:17Speaker 1: And she did it, and it's all it is, is
- 57:19Speaker 1: wonderfully written book. I once was her. Right now, you

- 58:12Speaker 1: waiting for the and there they go, almost on time.
- 58:15Speaker 1: This morning. Mom is coming out the front door strong
- 58:18Speaker 1: with a double arm kid carry. Looks like dad has
- 58:21Speaker 1: the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh but
- 58:24Speaker 1: the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect car seat
- 58:32Speaker 1: buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who
- 58:36Speaker 1: looks to be about nine or ten, has secured herself
- 58:39Speaker 1: in the booster seat. Dad zips the bag closed and
- 58:41Speaker 1: they're off. Ah, but looks like Mom doesn't realize her
- 58:45Speaker 1: coffee cup is still on the roof of the car,
- 58:47Speaker 1: and there it goes. Oh, that's a shame. That mug
- 58:52Speaker 1: was a fam favorite. Don't sweat the small stuff, just
- 58:55Speaker 1: nailed the big stuff, like making sure your kids are
- 58:57Speaker 1: buckle correctly in the right seat for their agent's eyes.

- 59:34Speaker 1: Welcome out in my Shoes. My guess is one of
- 59:39Speaker 1: the stars of the Own Network series green Leaf. To
- 59:43Speaker 1: show a premiere on June twenty three on Own. He's
- 59:46Speaker 1: one of my favorite Hollywood's actors because he can swing
- 59:49Speaker 1: between comedy, sci fi, Bossover, dramatic, Road Broadway. He has
- 59:54Speaker 1: an incredible acting range. Like I said, Broadway, Something About
- 59:57Speaker 1: Mary one of my all time funny movies. He appeared
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: in Pitch Black, Sci Fi, barber Shop, Teenade, Mutant, Ninja, Turtles. Plus.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: He has won three Emmy's performing Forceable Work, Please Work.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: In The money Making Conversation discussed the final season of Greenleaf,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: the actor and singer that you did a lot of
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: you guys don't know about. He plays Bishop James Greenleaf.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Please welcome. Keith David. How are you doing, sir? I'm
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: well man, how are you doing? It's really good, really good? Uh.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Four seasons down, a fifth season ago. We know about television,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: sometimes you can get green leading and don't even last
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: beyond the burning of the candle. Uh, going into the
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: five season. Talk about that. Talk about the journey of
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: this series so far before we get into details. From
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: a personal perspective, has been an incredible journey for me
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: because um years in my life, like I used to
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: fantasize about being a preacher. I used to want to
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: be a preacher, and uh uh I didn't. I didn't
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: want to be a kind of Jack leg So I
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: decided to pursue other areas of my life, you know,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: in the life of an artist, and I believe that
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: they're both are calling. So now you know, I feel
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: that acting is my ministry. Uh. But when Greenley's came along,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: it was like dream being fulfilled. I mean, it was
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: truly a blessing. If you don't you know, if if
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: you don't believe in God, well, uh, that's that's your business.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: But God loved you anyway, and that was I believe
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: in God, blessing. I believe in God, So keep talking,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: keep talking. Well, I mean that was that was that
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: was living proof that you know that that God is
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: always looking out for me, and take better care of
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: me in that care and take it myself. Absolutely, I
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: believe in that, and I believe that focus get you there,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: and the blessings are based on your hard work, and
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: your career is showing a body of work that is
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: tied to you know. The thing I like about your
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: career is that, you know, I'll always tell people wherever
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: the opportunity is pointed, give it a hundred percent and
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: go forward, you know, voice over work, going forward, singing
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Broadway comedy, drama. That's a really versatile plate of as
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: they say, food that you're dining on there, sir, talk
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: to us about being able to have that range and
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: that ability and and and and that that blessing right there,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: be able to do all these different things. Because some
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: people just good at comedies, some people just good at
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: dramatic roles. But you've being able to you're able to
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: swing back and forth. Talk to us about that. Well,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: first of all, I'm lucky to be able to do that.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: But that's what I trained for. That's what I spent
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: my life training for. You know, I spent I spent
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: ten years of my life in class training, right, you know,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: from from high school and college and uh and and
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: you know, the the greatest I think, and I get
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: to do it, yes, sir, which that which I prepared
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: myself to do. You know, isn't that great? I mean
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: it is great. I mean that's I mean, that's the
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: blessing beyond my wildest imagination. And I appreciate that. Now,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: let's let's talk about Greenleaf. Okay, last season, let me
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: just talk about your character a little bit because the
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: last season, you know, Grace character became a dominant character,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Lady Maide, and we saw what Charity was doing and
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: underminded the family, and Carissa character kind of undermined the
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: relationship she had with Jacob. The men, the men character
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I felt were kind of like like like, well pushed
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: a little bit to the back of the female and
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: none negative back when I say that, none negative because
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: you got the storylines you have to develop you. Then
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I see this trailer for the final season and you
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: you you preaching through the whole thing. You're praying through
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the whole thing. Bishop, Are you trying to send us
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: a message? Is your voice coming to the fore front
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: of the series with prayer and leadership for the fifth season?
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Talk to me, well, you know, uh, the Family journey
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: has always been about, you know, been about re establishing
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: ourselves in the church and uh, Grace coming, Grace coming
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: back home to uh uh just rectify what what what
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: had gone on previously in the family and so and
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: I think that when we when we started this series,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Bishop was in a place where he was ready to
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: atone for whatever he had you know past. Uh, discrepences,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: you know what you know, and and and and faced
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: them head on. Of course, Now when you when you
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: you say you're ready for that, when the moment comes,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: you say, oh, God doesn't have to be right now,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: you know. So he's gone through all of that. But
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: you know in season five, you know, uh, we see
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: you know, you know, everything has a ripple effect, it
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: really does. Yeah, and so and so he's gonna he's
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: gonna deal with that and so. Um that's what season
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: five is about. This that final referee. Come on, now,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: come on, now, what what you know what it's like,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: you know when you have to you know, it's you know,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: it's uh, it's like, uh let me let me let
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: me aagine this, Keith, about about your character, about the show. Okay,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: because of the fact that the finale set up a
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: lot of a lot of storylines that finale I'm talking
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: about season four for nowe. You know Charity, she you
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: thought you could convince her to vote the right way.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: She did, Okay, that I'm sure shocked your character. You
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: thought she would see the right way. Then she got
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: kicked to the curb by Phil. When Bob Whitmore, the
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: owner of H and H, told her, if you want
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: to stay some stay have power in this whole situation
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: with this church, you gotta marry my daughter who happens
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: to be white. If you're not following the series. So
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: those are just a small level of dynamics when you
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: when you get this script, and these scripts have to
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: be juicy at the table reading, these scripts have to
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: be juicy. When you shot him. You can just see
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: all this stuff playing itself out. And then but but
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Charity for the fifth season, she's undermined the family. How
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: do you bring her back into the family without destroying
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: the storyline that we have not seen yet for the
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: fifth season? You know, you you you raise your kids
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: should be good people, right and you and you try
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: to convince him to to do the next rightst thing,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: and then you then you have to let go and
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: let God handle it the way he's going to handle it.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: And I think that also that's also one of the
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: one of the big lessons that the bishop learns is
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: you know, in spite of your intentions, it's gonna go
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: way God intends it to go. And and we have
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: and we just have to pray for the grace to
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: deal with that because it may not be. It may
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: not be exactly the way you wanted it, no matter
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: what your intentions are. You know, you know, you know
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: deal with that. You know you got that great voice there, Keith.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: You know you got that that profound voice as they say,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: you know when I when I do TV shows, uh Injoy,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: they called the voice of God. It's so eloquent, it's
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: so it's so strong. Come on, let's go and tell
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: the truth about this. And so, like I said, you
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: have that natural gift to be to be able to
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: resonate like a minister. And so so you're the Bishop.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: James Greenley f on the series The premieres Greenley for
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: series June twenty. Premiers June three on the Own Network.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Now in the trailer, Now in the trailer, I see
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: your kissing lady. May uh huh Okay, Now, I know
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: you've been wanting to huh. Well, you know, but job,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you'll kind of had a little discard over the years,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: and these these are these final seasons here, come on, now,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: come on, like I'm not if you, if you you
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: don't have to be with somebody for five years to
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: have a little discord attle so you can believe after
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: fort or five years there are they're gonna be some
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: challenges that arrived, sir, But you know, but you know
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: with you know, uh, with the belief and the God
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: of your under you know, God will find a way
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: absolutely if it's meant and if it's meant to be,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: so you so you know that's where we are. Okay,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: So so okay, now we got Charity. You gotta bring
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: her back in the fold. I catch you kissing Lady
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: May in the trailer, which is a good thing. Which
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: is a good thing. Now are y'all y'all all praying
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: holding hands? The entire family. Jacob was in there, Zora, Sophia,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Carissa and so so everybody's living at this house, this
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: giant house is a beautiful house as a lake on
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: the property. And Carrissa has issues because she's tired of
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: living in your mama's house, your daddy's house. So so
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: as as the man of the house, the bishop, how
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: does that play out as far as far as the
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: characterization of what you're trying to do and what you're
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: trying to deliver on this show as the bishop, not
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: only at the church what you've lost, but holding onto
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: the house that you may leave lose basos and information
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: that Charissa got from Fernando. Can you talk to me
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: about that. I cannot talk to you about that. Come on,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: come on, come on, come on, come I can't. I
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: can tell you, um that that that will that will
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: play out, that will play out, And I think you're
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: going to be, um, you know, wonderfully surprised because the
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: story is so exciting and and but you know, the
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: thing that I think is so wonderful about it is,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: you know, uh, you know, God works and so so
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: many mysterious ways. We don't know what the ways of
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: God are and what the lessons are to be looking
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: and that's what makes that's what makes I think the uh,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: the series so compelling, is that, uh, in the midst
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: of this, you know, this storytelling is so u this
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: there's such a relationship with real life and what happens
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: in life, because in life it doesn't always turn out
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: to be as hunky dorry as you like it now,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: you know, and and and we have to deal with that.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: And that happens that happens in ministers families, that happens
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: in bishops families, that happens in church families, that happens
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: in families that never go to church. It just happens
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: because it's life. You know, it's really interesting. You will see,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: you will see a wonderful way of life unfolding in
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: this season. Oh believe me. Last season was you know
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: when Grace was trying to reconnect with a J. Now,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: you didn't tell M. S. Rashan, look at the story,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: look at your story. Look tell them all my fans.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: You're not gonna give us any extra any little in
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: roads into what may be happening in season five. Watched
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: the episode now when at the end of the last
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: season that Grace was at Fate's grave site and this
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: gentleman who looked like a J but he wasn't a
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: J walked up to her at the grave site and
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: he walked away. Any inkling of what that character was.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: Was he an angel? What was he? Well, you know
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I have to leave that up to you because you know,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: um in life again, I love the way our imitates
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: life because there there are many times when you have
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: an experience like that. You know, that reminded me of well,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: he looked like he could have been so and so
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: son and have maybe maybe it was maybe it wasn't right.
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: You know. I mean, you know sometimes when we when
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: we have dreams and they speak to us, and I
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: mean I've had dreams that were so real that, uh,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: if you would have asked me today did it really happen?
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: I would not have good conscious be able to swear
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: that it didn't. Mm hmm I agree. So so, you know,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: I mean, that's the way I see that moment is
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: one of It's one of those sort of god shot
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: moments where you don't you know, was that him? Was
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: that not him? Whatever it was, it was, it was
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: it was a momentary miracle. It was it was if
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: that she needed she needs, she needed some Godly reassurance
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: of some kind, and she got it. Oh that that
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: And it was well written because her she was questioning
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: her faith, looking down at the great side of faith,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: and then this character came up to out of mystery
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: and spoke to her. And I want to don't want
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: to tell everybody everything, because everybody should if you hadn't
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: watched this here and go watch one to three four
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: and get caught up before you start June and watching
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: season five. The thing about it is that I just
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: want your opinion, sir, because I got you on the
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: show give me your thoughts on each one of these
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: people who are in your life. They play characters. But
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: what are your thoughts about feel what who works under
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: barb with Moore or h Who's I mean? I mean,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: you know, here's the guy, here's here's the here's the
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: here's the guy who I believe starts out with some
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: kind of some kind of faith. But you see, the
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: devil is a click and and and puts all kinds
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: of temptations in front of you. Sometimes it's a beautiful woman.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Sometimes it comes in the form of money. Sometimes it
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: comes in the form of power, sometimes it sometimes it
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: comes in the form of some combination of all of those,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: uh but at all. But but you know, the devil
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: can also uh disguise himself in ambition, and you know,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: and the ego is a monster because the ego could
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: fool you to thinking that it is you, and it
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: will it will, you know, start motivating you in ways
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: that you think is pure, but it's really couched behind
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: some uh it going needs that's that's stoked by greed
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: uh and and the worst parts of ambition that becomes
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: selfish and you become selfishly driven so that you know,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: uh you lose your way, said, they can't see the
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: you can't see the forest for the trees. So started up.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I think he started out, you know, because he wanted
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: to have his own church. He got an opportunity, You
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: got an opportunity to work with this man who you know,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: promised him big things, one of which that he wouldn't
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: yes one day he would have his own church. So Okay,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: if this sacrifice I have to make is being a
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: ghost writer, I mean that may not be the biggest
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: sin in the world. Okay, fine, uh, but then it
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: leads you to do other things. But when it becomes
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: you know, I mean the thing about phil when it
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: comes down to taking down your own and that is
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: that is that is both you know, uh, familiarly and spiritually. Uh.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Then you know, then you have you know, you have
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: to question those motives, and you know which the bishop
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: does from the beginning. Bishop questions his motives from the
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: from the beginnings. You know, sees teas and knows who sees,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: and knows who he is because he knows who Bob
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: who is Let's go right there? Who is Bob? Is
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: he the devil? Well? I mean again, the devil has
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: many forms which many names, many many disguises, and you
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: know I mean what I mean, I can't call out
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: every ambitious preacher uh in the world. But you know
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: sometimes when they when they ambition uh overrides your true
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: sense of spirituality. Then that if there's something to be questioned,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: because you know, we have to watch out for false gods,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: and money is one of them. Actually we live, we
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: live in a society. Well, money isn't necessary. I mean,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: you know, even in biblical times, you know, uh, the
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: money wasn't the same as it as it is now.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: But you know, people, you know, people got got lost.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: You know, you know how many camels do you have?
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: How much bread do you have? You know, they were
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: all kind they were all kinds of ways to disguise
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: that that particular evil of greed. And that's and that
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: you know, that seems to be the center storyline. Greed.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Greed happens in this in the story, especially Bob, you
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: know that's for lad feel down this path twenty years
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: and like you saying, ghost writing and never getting credit
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: and then misleading, I don't I don't know, do you
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: do you did? I read this role? I felt that
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Phil really did care for charity, but then when it
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: pushed came to a shop and denying his dreams tied
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: to greed, he denounced that relationship to follow the path
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: of greed? Am I wrongest saying that I don't. I
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: don't think so that's you know, I mean, you know
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: and and and you don't have to also understand that whatever,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: whatever your interpretation is when we're telling stories in a
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: parable in a powable situation, whatever it is that you
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: need to learn, that's your lesson. Now you watch it again,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: you may get a different lesson. True, true, but that's
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: the that's the lesson you got watching it the first time. So,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: I mean, I can't tell you that that's not true
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: or that's not a part of uh stop what's to
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: be learned here? That is one of That is certainly
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: one of the least. Now Jacob, Jacob has not lived
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: a good life. He's had something that we all have had,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: but we stumped out foot and made mistakes. And both
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: as a single man, as a married man and as
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: a father. What are your thoughts about his as a
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: relationship with you in the direction he's grown as a
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: character as a man on this show living under your
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: house under your roof again, you know what I mean?
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: And there you know, I can't at this very second
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: quote to you who in the Bible Jacob reminds me.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: But you know, and here is here is a man.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: You know, he's like like like I think maybe maybe
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: Joseph's brother brothers. Um, here's a Here's a man who's
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: lived under the shadow of his father his whole life.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: He had you know, he's had everything. He's ever you know,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: everything has been given to him. Uh. And and he's
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: but his his mother has also been very protective. You know.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: It's yeah, in spite of what his father might have,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: you know, his father has always wanted them to be
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: you know, go out and uh find his own self.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: I mean, I remember, I think it's in season two
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: or three. I said to him, I said, look at
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: me and tell me. Get out of my face, old man,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: let me do my thing. But you won't even do that, right,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: you won't even specify in your way. I can't give
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: this to you. I can't give you nothing. You have
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: to earn us. And that's a lesson that a man's
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: got a life. Absolutely absolutely it is. Really when I
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: when I look at your the journey of this show,
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: and we're talking to Keith David, one of the stars
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: of Green Lift. The series premiers June twenty three on
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: the Own network. He plays the bishop on the series.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Um it really I would just telling you this, uh,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: And I've enjoyed this run of the first four seasons.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to the final season because it allows
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: me to stay calm. It allows me, as you can see,
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: like you said, Raean, you might look at it on
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: one episode, didn't look at it two weeks later and
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: see something or be mostly driven by something else. And
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: that really is what this series is about. It allows
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: you choices. It allows you to be able to understand
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: the values that you have for yourself, whether whether you
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: believe or you don't believe. But if you believe, these
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: are the options that you have to make decisions based on.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: It has to be just an amazing Like you said
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: early on when you started this interview with me, you
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: always wanted to be a minister, and this blessing came
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: about where for five seasons you could play a bishop
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: on a on a role that also look inside yourself
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: and feel compelled that you're you're changing people's lives. Even
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: though it's a role you still are changing people's lives.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: Do you believe that? Well, I mean, you know, praise God,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: there is that potential and uh and and and I
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: have absolutely loved that opportunity to be able to tell
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: those kinds of stories. I mean, that's I mean, that's
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: a that's what we do. You know. You know, I'm
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: an actor, I'm an artist, and and we and we
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: we tell stories in order to inform our lives that
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: there are there is another way of doing things. You
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: know that. You know, it's not that there's not just
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: one way to get through any given situation, you know.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: And I mean, you know, I believe that even now
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: in this COVID situation, God does not put us in
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: situations that he doesn't provide a way out of at
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: and I really have to be wait uh to what
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: those possibilities are before we close out. I just I
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: know when you've got other projects other than green Leaf
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: premier in June twenty three, if you if you want
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: to shout him out, I got a project with Alison
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Weaves coming up, a project on Amazon. You want to
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: expound on those a little bit before we wrap up here,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Mrs David, I am I'm working right now. I'm working
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: on the show based on the life of Joe Williams
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: and uh and uh. My great hope is that it
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: will be uh, you know, the the the pandemic will
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: um allow us to move into theaters and into and
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: you'll get to that. You will get to see it
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: when it's time. Absolutely, absolutely, but be on be on
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: the lookout, absolutely, Joe with absolutely, my friend, Chief David,
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: thank you for coming on Money Making Conversations. I really
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: appreciate it that you allowed me to talk to you,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: you know, and and and I know you can't give
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: me too much of Steven five, but you gave me
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: enough leading up to season five to let me know
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: that I need to be watching season five. I want
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: to thank you for coming on Money Making Conversations, sir,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Thank you. Man. Look to your children's eyes to see
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: the true magic of a forest. It's a storybook world
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: for them. You look and see a tree. They see
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: the wrinkled face of a wizard with arms outstretched to
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: the sky. They see treasuring pebbles, they see a windy
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: path that could lead to adventure, and they see you.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: They're fearless guide. Is this fascinating world? Find a forest
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: near you and start exploring and discover the Forest dot

- 1:25:56Speaker 1: moms are unwilling to risk are soon the pressures are
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: being a mom and an entrepreneur. Through their struggles of
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: both motherhood and entrepreneurship, they knew exactly what was needed
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: to have service a community that most didn't think of mothers.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Since seventeen, they have launched over a hundred and ten
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: mom owned businesses. Please walk on to Money Making Conversation.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Dr Tamira Lucas and Miss Jasmine Sam's thank you for
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: having us. We are well you know, you know, I'm
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: a guy, I really uh around a lot to shows
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: about entrepreneurship and I know that you know, women are
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: exploding in entrepreneurship, especially African American women are exploding there.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: I like to get a response from each one of
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: you about why do you think that is so? Starting
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: with you Dr Lucas, So, women are exploding in entrepreneurship
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: because we build businesses based off of necessasi from out
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: um that we need every single day. And know that
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: these things like very cliche is like, well everybody builds
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: a business also necessity, but women are those as you
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: take go back to our history, um, you know we
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: were creating solutions to problems within our household because women
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: were the ones that were, you know, mainly taking care
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: of the households by the male work. And those things
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: kind of exploded from, hey, this is a necessity that
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: I need for my family and my children. UM. And
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: we kind of think a little bit differently. We're always
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: thinking strategically, we're always thinking innovatively because we meet these
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: things right now, UM, and right now it is the
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: year I know here in Maryland. We're located in Maryland,
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: and the governor has um said that of mere the women, UM,
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: and we are really stepping up to the plate to
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: grow businesses. But gentlemen and I want to make sure
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: that we're not just starting businesses, but we're growing and
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: scaling those businesses so that we can be um, the
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: small time millions of those individuals, or those women and
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: moms can be the next multipmillion dollars businesses that our country. Um.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Are birthdays cool? And the reason you think differently, That's
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: why I wanted UH seems to have a response because
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: you know, I always tell people you're successful by thinking differently,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: but you're even greater, which is greater heights of success
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: when you can operate as a team, and that's what
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: you're doing now. MS sim's your response on why women,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: especially African American women are just exploding in the entrepreneurship fields.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: So not only do we see needs that are immediate,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: but we've always warned so many hats and our families
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: and in our communities, and so we have so many
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: talents and most of those coming the form of hobbies
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: or you know things we do offer too ples oude
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: our families and the people around that. And so people
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: like Tenere and Uh we see that and our neighborhood
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: and we see it was time to take their hobbies
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: and turn it into money making activities for them in
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: their communities. So and then coupled with more of our
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: women are going to school to get the education that
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: can help them actually pursue those goals. And then we
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: have more resources that we can go online and look
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: at the information we need, or we have differ programs, webinars,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: seminars that we can go to to get the information
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: we need to actually turn these hobbies into businesses. So
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: it allowing us to cataport ourselves beyond where we were
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: able to go before. So Mirror said and then all together, well,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: I don't know the thing about it. You know, I'm
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: a curious guy. You know, I'm going through Black enterprise.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I come across this nice article about the two of you,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: and I have six sisters. None of them have out
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: ball uh followed in the entrepreneurial lane that you who
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: are striving for women to pursue But there, you know,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: but they're they're my sisters. You know, they're African Americans.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: And when I see women stepping beyond the norm the
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: norm is when I say that not to stay at
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: home mom. The normals not just a forty hour week
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: job that may include over time, but saying hey, I
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: trust my natural instinct, I have a plan of action.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I can go out there. I can get Alan. I
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: won't get me Alan. I'm gonna figure out a way
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: to pursue my dreams and aspirations and build this brand.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: That's a lot of work. Why and when I read it,
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: since seen YouTube have been responsible for over fifty six
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: mom owned businesses. Lunch, talk to me about that. That's
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: a that's a that's that's a a champion right there.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: That's a champion talking about a champion of the community, ladies.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Well we need to st a little bit because it's
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: been over about Okay, all I getting stuff from my buffer,
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: people say me stuff, I pull it out, I put
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: it on here. Okay. So what you're not gonna do, jas,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: what you don't go to do is come on my show.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: And he's like, I'm just selling bad information. Now if
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: you say it's over a hundred, you say it earlier,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: he say the first time, and beat your beat your
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: and you gonna go. I gotta stop this brother. His
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: brother spread bad news about you know us, you worked
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: too hard to build us, you know. So how many
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: of that number right there? So I can repromote that
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: what's that number? Is not fifty six? What is it?
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: And one more row? Okay? See hours is remarkable by yourself.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: But we've been able to take it even from almost
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: double it because we were able to running in academy.
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: We thought it was one. Let me fix this, says
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: they have launched over a hundred and ten mom owned businesses.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: Please walk into money making conversation, dr to Mirror Lucas
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: and its jazz scens. See that's how we're doing the
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: money making conversations. That's that's how we're doing on money,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: make conversations. We're in the business of being accurate, being right,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: you know. So when this, when this ads on podcasts
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: and all my platforms, we're gonna promote exactly the success
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: story that you guys are putting out there. Now. The
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: interesting thing about see all I do is go on
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: your I go on your website. I pulled information that
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: says Dr Lucas your trailblazer among professionals and a powerful
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: voce for moms teaching business balance and babies. Co found
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: up the Cube Coworker, Maryland's first and only coworking space
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: that provides babysitting services. Then this SAMs Salon, consultant industry
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: expert with over twelve years of beauty and hospitality experience.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: Am I is that correct? Just want to make sure
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: that I can handle one of you guys on the
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: tool y'all. We're gonna get this straight moving forward. So
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: let's talk about this as a co found of the
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Cube co work. Because the thing about is going on
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: with the pandemic. You know, the you know states have
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: been shut down, they're starting to reopen and guess what,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: some people are gonna go back to reopen to no jobs.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: And then and then some people are being called back
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: to work and childcare centers are not even open or
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: they're starting to reopen. So how can you go back
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: to work and you don't have no place to deliver
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: your child to be taken care of? Why you're working?
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: So when you talk about the que co work, tell
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: me how it's being effective now effective now affected now
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: with the pandemic, and how does it actually work? So
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: we created the que co workus there myself as a
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: space jasmine and our train these moms. We will come
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: to contact with other mom entrepreneurs that started business but
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: they could they were struggling with down n seeing their
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: families and and their kids. And coworking is a cool
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: um industry to be in. It's a cool um idea,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: innovative ideas working in a space with complete strangers, but
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: being able to do network and grow which we all
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: need to grow out businesses. But when you add, when
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: you think about childcare costs, you can buy a Toyota
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: at least the Toyota Corolla every single year for the
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: amount that you'll pay in childcare fees. Right, So we
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: had to think about, well, how are these moms that
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: are living a little the poverty levels, starting businesses gonna
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: be able to afford childcare. And I created the coworking
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: space that has babysitting services inside of it so that
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: one moms or dad because we have both parents, UM
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: can focus on their work. But not only can they
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: focus on their work, but they can also not have
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: the burden of high childcare costs because it's how our
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: fee structure. Now, before we were fully UM, we had
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: our membership with pretty much full because of the baby
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: Sydney s that UM that it was a pretty quickly. However,
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: UM there you know, there were still a lot of
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: businesses that were working inside of their traditional office space. Well,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: places like Facebook and Twitter. These companies are now giving
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: an option for for parents, I mean for their workers
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: to work from home. And I feel that this will
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: be the trend in the in the industry of UM
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: those type of companies or companies periods saying hey, you
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: can work from home, and now that childcare part is
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: going to be UM critical. So working in a in
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: a space where you can come in and get four
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: hours of uninterrupted or three hours of uninterrupted work done
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: and then you can like do whatever else you need
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: to do for the rest of the day is going
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: to be kind of ideal. So right now, although we're
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: not open and physically, we created a model that will
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: help us the same over time, um hopefully, but we
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: can anticipate that we're going to have a large number
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: of people knocking bold, parents knocking at outdoor to utilize
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: our services because we know that business is not going
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: to be as usual. Want everything we finally reopen. Absolutely
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: this pandemic has shown, like Twitter made an announcement that hey,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: stay at home, work at work remote which is going
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: to have our effect on real estate offers real estate
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: in the future, because that's the one industry that has
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: a lot of uncertainty. As we spoke about moms as
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: entrepreneurs um an area of growth that's exploding out there
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: in the entrepreneur world. That's one of the reasons why
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: I'm motivated to start one of the reason I was
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: motivated to start Money Making Conversation just to provide information,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: free information and bring what I feel in individuals like
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: uh dr Lucas and ms Sam's on the show just
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: to share their stories and hopefully they can you can
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: you can get some nuggets of information on how they're
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: doing and how they're applying their the lanes. Because when
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: you when you're an entrepreneur, there are no consistent days
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: of saying it's gonna be done this way. Every day
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: it changes every day. You have to be prepared for
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: that change and you cannot be frustrated by that change.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: What you can do is plan for change. And as
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: you plan for change, then you can overcome the obstacles
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: that may frustrate you. Um On the focus on Miss
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Jasmine sam uh I read earlier sal Salon consultant industry
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: expert in the beauty arena, whether twelve years of experience
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: and the beauty and the hospitality experience. We know what's ending.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: What's happened in this country or with the pandemic, especially
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: in the African American community where we are overtly affected
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: by the COVID nineteen virus. How is the in the
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: Maryland area, how's it being happened? And people coming to
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: you advice and what advice are you giving them? Um
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: my advice? You know everyone so ready to either reopen
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: or just to go through their hair and nails done,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: and you know they are ways to take kids of
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: those things. Yourself at home and the movie times. The
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: health of your head and the health of your skin.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: The health of your nails is most important, but also
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: the health of you as an individual, because if you
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: are dead, you cannot get your hand and nails run
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: again unless you buy more a ticitions. So stay in
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: the mouth. Follow your state regulations or your county regulations,
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: and follow your state board of Cosmtology or your barber's board.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: Follow the regulations that place here. So you're saying that,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: don't put beauty ahead of safety. No, don't do that.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: People like I said, I talked to my my younger
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: brother here. He showed me photos. He showed me a
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: video showing he's had to put shower curtains, clear shower
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: couraging between each stall in his Barbara salon. He has
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: removed all the chairs out of his barber salon and
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: everything's about plumbing. Only he's had to go out and
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: by he's bought goar goals, he's bought mad. Of course,
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: he has hand sanitizers, he his lights hole spray And
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: the problem with that is that that was not part
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: of his budget. That has suddenly become part of his budget.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: And so when you have uh in this pandemic world
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: that we're living in and you have women or moms
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: trying to break into the entrepreneurial space. It's a different
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: model now, correct, right it is. You know when what
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: we got noticed that the city and the state was
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: starting to shut down, we had to begin to get creative.
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: So in our business, I have a hands on an
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: emails on we begin to sell off the inventory that
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: we hadn't started to create at home kit to sell
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: to our clients. So that was one way to continue
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: ce revenue generation right right right so, and and also
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: we are membership Beast, so that was another way to
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: make sure that when things are slow or things like
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: this happened, we have a way to kind of maintain
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: our brand and keep ourselves in the full front either
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: when you know we may not be able to operate,
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: then to keep us alive during this time as well,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: right right so, as as as zoom as the as,
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: the as the social media world be important during this time,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: and how do you use the social media to promote
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: your brand? You know, mom as entrepreneurs and Dr Lucas
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: could be you it's Jazz and Spill, it could be
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: responding or both of you guys can respond because my
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: whole thing is that I know this is a joint
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: effort to you know, guys use y'all different ways of thinking,
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: like you stated earlier, which makes this, uh, this partnership work,
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: and uh I go with you first, Dr Lucas, so
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: Jasmine and I have definitely gotten very creative collectively and
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: individually for our businesses and ensuring that all of our
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: brands that we have, whether it's Mom's Entrepreneurs or our
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: personal brands are a continues to be alive. But we
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: really utilize those platforms to really tell the story but
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: also share the resources and the and the things that
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: we knew that most entrepreneurs needed at this time. So
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: within a week of UM COVID nineteen hitting M Desmond,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: were immediately sharing UM advice resources and anything anything that
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: we that we were able to access or even have
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: a knowledge of. We was immediately using UM those platforms
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: to share that information. So I know, I strongly I
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: had so many beauty experts. As a business consultant, I
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: worked with all types of entrepreneurs and I had a
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: lot of UM beauty and beauty entrepreneurs in the beauty industry,
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: a lot of Mom entrepreneurs in the beauty industry preach
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: old and say well what am I supposed to do?
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: And quickly, you know, giving them advice on how to
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: pivot and their business so that they can to say
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: because a lot of times, well the resources that were
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: the funding the release programs that originally went out for
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: COVID nineteens did not support those type of entrepreneurs. They
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: didn't support the duty industry entrepreneurs that may not be
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: taking a pay checks or have contractors and do not
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: have employees. So giving them education and support on how
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: to pivot their business so that they're still generating some
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: type of income UM was extremely important. And also what
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: did we have available UM from a mom as entrepreneurs
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: pust doctor. So we immediately our workshops while academy is
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: normally face to face, and we do that UM specifically
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: face to face, so that we can have the sole
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: attention of the parents, I mean of the mom as
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: they're working towards starting their business. We had to pivot
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: that online UM. That online virtual Academy started March I mean,
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: I'm sorry, May eighteens UM and then we also created
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: this fund because we knew that a lot of my entrepreneurs.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: A lot of black mom entrepreneurs were pushed out of
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: the relief efforts. So we knew that, Okay, we don't
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: have millions of dollars, but we know that we have
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: a network that could possibly donate into a fund to
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: help us support the mom owned businesses that are across
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: the country that are suffering every day. We're always overlooked,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: We're always grouped into women owned businesses. We are women,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: but we are moms and that's totally different. The the
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: the investment that I make is solely contingent on the
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: impact that is going to have on my child or
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: on my family. And if you are if you are
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: a woman without kids, you can take a much greater
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: risk in starting something or investing this stuff to because
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: you only have yourself to worry about. So that was
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: on the forefront of Jasmine in our mind of like,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: how do we support these moms. We're moms, Um, we
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: have a great support system. We support one and now
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: there we have a really good support system. UM, I
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: would say collectively, but that's not the case for a
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: lot of moms, especially in Baltimore. We're in Baltimore where
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: most of the households are ran by single mothers. So
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: if we want to continue to keep crime down, if
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: we want to continue to UM have our economy operating
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: UM and a decent faster, we need to make sure
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: that these moms have what they need financially the same businesses.
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: I know either the two who can talk. Now, Dr Lucas,
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: you don't talk. You almost ate up all the pole
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: Jasmus time she's lean all into the beauty side of
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: the conversation that you were rocking the roll. And then
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: I was like, hey, he got right down. And when
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: our credits is motivational speaker because she can speak, that's right.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: But let's let's talk a little bit of miss Jasmine.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: What's just the most rewarding part about being a philanthropist?
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: Because I do see the on the cover of your website.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: I went there and it talks about you know, you
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: have twenty six contributors Moms Give Life, Moms Give Community,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: hashtag giving Tuesdays. You know, over a thousand dollars been
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: raised so far. I'm a contribute to that. So my
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: name pop up in there this week. UM. What I
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: love to be able to do. I have a newsletter.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: It goes out every Friday on time and at UH
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: nine a m. To ninety thousand fan club members. I'd
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: love to put this video or some type of banner
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: in telling your story, your your organizational story, moms and entrepreneurs,
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: and see if we can get some more contributions. Is
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: that cool? We love beautiful than beautiful. It's just beautiful,
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: just beautiful. I know you don't have much time left
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: because you know your business partner can talk. You know,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: as my mom says, talking talk her head off of
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: a dog. You know what I'm saying. Do you know
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: where they go? Well, you know Dr Lucas was talking. Well,
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: I would say the most rewarding thing about being philanthropic
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: is just the success that we need to see from
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: the minds that we support and ultimately thank you, thank you.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Going when when we get calling in my business or
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: and the things that I'm doing, I can't. I can't
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: quit because I have this team of other women who
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: have looked up to me in tam Era and have said,
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: you know, if they can do it, I can do it.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: So if I quit or Tamara decides to quit, does
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: that mean it's okay for them to quit? And we
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: don't believe that So for me, just seeing that the
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: work they're able to put in, the self motivation that
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: they've they've been able to develop because a lot of
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: them thought out very discouraged and believing that this is
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: not something that making these but someone told them about
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: the school mare and saying, maybe you should give it
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: a shot. You're very talented, you're very still it sounds
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: for you to put their emotion and so just seeing
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: these women just grow and build their businesses and become successful,
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: that's the most people in part. You know, I've seen
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: organizations like one hundred Black Men um you know in
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: a CP National Urban League, you know, started one location
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: and then become a affiliates or throughout this country. What
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: what just the future of your organization? M moms as
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: entrepreneurs as far as a national platform. So it's funny
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: because covid has allowed us that opportunity to go national
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: as we always um engngetions to do so. So now
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: that we have this um FUN, it's not just a
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: fund for Moms and Baltimore to access. For this a
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: fun that anyone, any mom in the United States could access.
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: And also our virtual academy. So it pushed us to
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: really step out there and get out to the world,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: into the United States until now we are a national organization.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: That's a beautiful thing. I'm speaking to my friends. I'm
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: calling my friends now. You know, we laugh. I've been
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: corrected on the air, you know, on my own show.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: You know. That's what's not gonna do is run over
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: these two moms. Okay, you know, but they're gonna pull
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: you to the side. But see they could put me
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: to the side on the ready. You gotta tell us
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: about that's wrong. That's wrong, nothing's wrong right there. We
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: have launched over one hundred and ten mom owned businesses
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: since we in twenty seventeen, we launched Moms and Entrepreneurs.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't thank Dr Tamara Lucas and Missus jasmth Sins
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: were coming on this show, and I want to thank you. Know,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: like I said, when I saw the article in The
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: Black Enterprise, I was motivated to contact you too, and
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: I was thank you for taking the time and come
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: on money making conversations and share part of your story. Again.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: I want to reach out to you, Samantha, my executive
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: producer of the show, to get some banners so we
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: can put in the newsletter because you have a cause
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: of trying to generate revenue. I went through the payroll
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: protection program and it's not set up for an independent
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: um and uh entrepreneurs, it's not you know. Uh, that's
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: the reason why the average loan and the Second Go
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Round is only seven and seventy nine thousand loans distributed
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: versions of the first Go Round when he was just
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: passing that checks like it was free money. So again,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: thank you for coming on the show and we were
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: stay in touches that good. Appreciate. If you want to
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: hear more money making conversations, please go to Money Making
