- 0:00For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing
- 0:04accomplishment. You should be proud of all that
- 0:05you have achieved to this point in your young lives.
- 0:08I want to speak directly to you briefly.
- 0:10Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world,
- 0:13but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are
- 0:15most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring
- 0:19into this world. I think many women they want to
- 0:21be wife and mothers more than their career.
- 0:23The reality is women alone get pregnant, women alone gestate,
- 0:27women alone can nurse that child and very young children need
- 0:30their mothers in a special way more than anyone else.
- 0:33Being a homemaker is not a dirty word of first of all, and that
- 0:37women do play different roles in society.
- 0:42Hello, hello, everybody. Welcome back to the podcast.
- 0:46It's so great to be back on YouTube live.
- 0:47I'm going to be keeping an eye on the chat here for questions,
- 0:51but welcome back. I'm so glad to see you guys
- 0:54here. I'm so glad to be here.
- 0:55I miss doing lives over the last several weeks, but I've been
- 0:59doing something even more important, which is getting to
- 1:02snuggle with my with our new baby.
- 1:04We just gave birth to our third and we have one in heaven, so we
- 1:08have 4 kids total, but this is our third earth side and it's
- 1:11just been such a joy to spend time with her and have that
- 1:14time. But I'm really glad to be back
- 1:15because there's so much stuff to cover.
- 1:17And today we're going to get into some very controversial
- 1:19stuff. We're going to be talking about
- 1:21the new TikTok comments out from Dylan Mulvaney, who was invited
- 1:25on the Miss Rachel show. I didn't even put this in the
- 1:27caption for this episode, but it's actually a very important
- 1:30story because it shows where our culture is going with kids
- 1:33content and entertainment. We're going to cover, yes,
- 1:35Harrison Butker, the NFL superstar who was very much in
- 1:40hot water recently for his comments and daring to talk
- 1:43about the role of women. So we're going to get into that.
- 1:45And we're going to get into some of the controversial comments
- 1:47from the Holy Father recently and the Christian view on gender
- 1:51roles. This is so controversial in
- 1:53today's society. I think some of that controversy
- 1:56is good. We should be wrestling to know
- 1:57how do we best live out our femininity and our masculinity
- 2:00today. But there's a lot of extremes on
- 2:03both sides. And so I'm going to be unpacking
- 2:05what is really the Christian position on these things.
- 2:08So lots to cover. We're going to go fast.
- 2:10But again, so excited to be here.
- 2:12If you've got questions, put it in the chat because that is
- 2:14where I will be paying attention.
- 2:16And we will be getting to questions and do Q&A at the end
- 2:18of the episode. Also, if you are not already on
- 2:21our Locals page, we're over 1000 strong over in Locals.
- 2:24We're growing the community there.
- 2:25I'm really excited because we have lots of things in store to
- 2:28actually start doing stuff over at Locals.
- 2:30It's been a long time. We're going to start doing these
- 2:32special live streams to interact with Locals members, subscribers
- 2:36over there. So check it out.
- 2:37There will be a link in the bio for that.
- 2:39And actually at the end of this episode, we're going to go over
- 2:42to do a Locals exclusive segment for today.
- 2:44So go check it out. Don't miss that.
- 2:47All right, so today is May 30th. Today is the feast day actually
- 2:51of Saint Joan of Arc. For those who might know of
- 2:53Saint Joan of Arc, the little girl from France who ended up
- 2:56leading the army to liberate France.
- 2:59She's also my confirmation St. someone that I really value.
- 3:03I'm going to bring her up because it's her feast day, but
- 3:05also because it has a lot to do with my new daughter.
- 3:08So a lot of people have been asking me, how has postpartum
- 3:11been? How have you been doing over the
- 3:13last few weeks? Thankfully, thanks be to God,
- 3:16it's been actually pretty easy. We've had a really smooth go of
- 3:19it #3 they say the births get easier.
- 3:23My first labor was 24 hours with my first son.
- 3:26My second labor with my second was 12 hours.
- 3:28This one was only six hours. So we're cutting them in half.
- 3:31And I will share. We we're not showing it's a lot
- 3:33on social media, but we did name our daughter Genevieve.
- 3:36And it's very special for today because it's the feast day of
- 3:40Saint Joan of Arc. And Saint Genevieve was the is
- 3:43the patron of Paris, France, who through her prayer for the city
- 3:48protected it. This is back in the, I think the
- 3:504th or the 5th century protected it from the Barbarians who are
- 3:54rushing through Europe and taking over and, and pillaging
- 3:56and taking over cities. So Paris was actually protected
- 4:00from the Barbarians from invading and pillaging the city
- 4:03because of the prayers of this young woman named Saint
- 4:05Genevieve who would later, hundreds of years later, inspire
- 4:09Saint Joan of Arc. So anyways, naming my daughter
- 4:11Genevieve when I love Saint Joan of Arc was very special.
- 4:14And it's very cool to look at these women.
- 4:16We're talking about women and, and gender roles today.
- 4:18These women who took on these leadership positions
- 4:22historically, not in any way to put down men or to compete with
- 4:25men, but to ultimately just stand up for what is right and
- 4:28good and true. And Saint Genevieve did that by
- 4:31getting the whole city of Paris to pray and fast to protect
- 4:35itself from the roaming Barbarians from pillaging the
- 4:39city. So it's very, very cool to see,
- 4:41even in the history of Christianity, the role of women
- 4:44and men. We're already getting into this.
- 4:46Who stood up to follow God's leading in the Spirit.
- 4:49Holy Spirit's prompting to ultimately serve other people.
- 4:53And that's not something that just men do or just women do.
- 4:55And you don't just do it as a mother or as a father, but you
- 4:58do it in a spiritual way, beyond biological mothering or
- 5:01fathering. You do it in a spiritual way to
- 5:03protect and care for your community.
- 5:04So that's what Saint Genevieve did, which I love.
- 5:07But yeah, advice for people were asking me what?
- 5:09What's your advice for postpartum?
- 5:10We actually did some content on this, some episodes.
- 5:13I did a conversation with Emily Wilson on this recently, who's a
- 5:16great friend of mine on YouTube, where we talked to Allie Beth
- 5:18Stuckey about her postpartum. Check out those episodes.
- 5:20We get into a lot of stuff there.
- 5:22But I think the foundational thing about postpartum that I
- 5:26can say, and this is for both men and women who either know
- 5:30people who have babies or having babies, they're together having
- 5:33babies in their family. It takes a community, it really
- 5:36does. So if you know somebody who is
- 5:38preparing to give birth, if you are somebody who's preparing to
- 5:42give birth, community is so key. And some people, some of us are
- 5:45blessed to have family close by. But I think making and finding
- 5:48friends that you can pour into so that they can be there for
- 5:52you and you can be there for them in the beautiful project of
- 5:56raising kids. I've been so blessed by people
- 5:58coming over to my home. I people brought us meals, My
- 6:01mother coming in, my sister's going to be coming to visit my
- 6:04husband. Obviously, being so engaged and
- 6:06so involved in our home and with our kids, I could not be a
- 6:09mother alone. We're not meant to do this
- 6:11alone. So I think the lesson of
- 6:12postpartum is we're not meant to do it alone.
- 6:15And I think so many people are alienated with having kids and
- 6:19they're feeling so alienated. Unfortunately, a lot of broken
- 6:23families, broken communities, and I think it's so key that
- 6:28each of us are part of the solution by going out of our way
- 6:32to be there for our friends and make new friends in our
- 6:36community. Not just like an online
- 6:37community, right? Online communities are great,
- 6:40but being there in community physically where we live.
- 6:44So if you're in an apartment building and, you know, the
- 6:46family down the hall has kids or there's a pregnancy, say, hey,
- 6:49can I bring you a meal? Right.
- 6:51Hey, how can I help you make it very practical?
- 6:54If there's someone in your church that's getting ready to
- 6:56deliver, you know, hey, can I, you know, bring over a meal?
- 6:59Can I come and clean your kitchen one afternoon?
- 7:02Like be there for your community.
- 7:04And if you are in the position of, you know, preparing to give
- 7:08birth or in that family that is preparing to give birth, accept
- 7:11the help if it's offered. I think part of the active
- 7:14community is not just giving, but also being willing to
- 7:16receive. And I know for me, sometimes it
- 7:18can be hard to receive. We feel bad about it.
- 7:20But embrace receiving as much as you embrace giving and do both
- 7:23generously. So those are some thoughts.
- 7:25And postpartum, but I'm really excited to get into the
- 7:28controversies of gender roles in the church.
- 7:31Before that, though, I need to thank our sponsor, Good
- 7:34Ranchers. There's something very cool
- 7:36coming up because in two weeks it's Father's Day and you guys
- 7:39know I love good ranchers. We love their chicken, we love
- 7:41their beef. goodranchers.com is America's meat company that's
- 7:45here with American ranchers. It's all sourced 100% in the
- 7:48United States. But this Father's Day they have
- 7:50this special promotion where you actually get bacon for life.
- 7:54So if you become a subscriber of good ranchers of one of their
- 7:57subscriber boxes and you get your chicken, you get your beef.
- 8:00You also get free bacon with every box for life.
- 8:04If you do that this month and the month of June.
- 8:07So check out the link in the bio goodranchers.com.
- 8:09Use the code lilac. Check out to get your bacon for
- 8:11life. This is a great Father's Day
- 8:13presents present. By the way, if you have a father
- 8:16who likes meat or chicken, I'm sure if you, most of us do, this
- 8:19is a great way to get him some amazing quality beef or steak,
- 8:23chicken from the United States sourced here that he can grill
- 8:26on Father's Day and then get him free bacon for life.
- 8:28So check it out. Go to answers.com.
- 8:30Use the code Lila. OK, Dylan Mulvaney, this came
- 8:33up. I just found out about this this
- 8:34morning. So I felt like I had to talk
- 8:36about it with you guys. So I'm just going to check the
- 8:39chat really quick to say hello to everybody.
- 8:41Oh, someone's from Spain. Hey, Bossia from Spain.
- 8:44Hey, Journey. Hey, Marcus.
- 8:47Hi, Lynn. Thanks for tuning in everybody.
- 8:50Lynn is from Massachusetts. Let me know where you guys are
- 8:52all from tuning in here. Hi, John Henry, thank you.
- 8:56Genevieve is a beautiful name for your daughter.
- 8:57Thank you, John Henry. Appreciate that.
- 9:01OK, so I don't know if anyone saw the Dylan Mulvaney TikTok
- 9:05news. I want to flag this for you
- 9:07guys. This is the lesson I'm going to
- 9:10share here is that is the is a crucial importance of monitoring
- 9:15the media that our kids consume. That's my point of bringing this
- 9:19up today because I do want to get to the gender role stuff,
- 9:21but this is really important. Miss Rachel is really a popular
- 9:26phenomenon right now. She has this kids show.
- 9:29She teaches kids how to interact and, and and speak for the time.
- 9:35A lot of parents park their children in front of Miss Rachel
- 9:38YouTube videos. She's very talented.
- 9:40OK, so she has a gift for communicating with children.
- 9:45That's clear. Unfortunately, from the
- 9:48beginning of learning about Miss Rachel, I did some research and
- 9:51unfortunately, I found out that she promotes gender ideology.
- 9:55Even on her website, she has, you know, he, him, she, her as
- 9:59if you can change your pronouns, change your gender.
- 10:01So she's already bought into that.
- 10:03And in addition to that, she has, I think, some gender non
- 10:07conforming people involved in her cast of characters.
- 10:10But she's never been really pro in the in your face about it.
- 10:14It's been a little bit more subtle.
- 10:15It's on the website. You don't necessarily pick it up
- 10:17in her content, right? Unfortunately, that looks like
- 10:20that's about to change, and there's a whole generation of
- 10:24kids now, and many of them parents who realize that gender
- 10:26ideology is very dangerous. You should not confuse young
- 10:29children and tell them that they can be a boy when they're a
- 10:32girl, or they can be a girl when they're a boy, or that gender is
- 10:34fluid. Like, no, that is lying to
- 10:36children and harmful to children and can lead them to serious
- 10:41issues down the line if we affirm gender confusion.
- 10:44Instead, we should be encouraging kids to embrace
- 10:47their gender and not overemphasize, oh, if you're a
- 10:51boy you have to play with trucks and if you're a girl you have to
- 10:53play with dolls. No, let the child explore and
- 10:56play. Just because they like more
- 10:58maybe feminine things or masculine things doesn't mean
- 11:00they're a boy when they're really a girl or a girl when
- 11:02they're really a boy. OK, Unfortunately, our country
- 11:06is crazy right now. The culture has gone so crazy in
- 11:09the direction of gender ideology.
- 11:11There's a lot of confusion and it's led to young people even
- 11:15thinking that they can change their sex and parents going
- 11:18along with it to the degree where they're doing puberty
- 11:20blockers for young kids and even genital, the malformation for
- 11:25young kids cutting off breasts. Like Chloe Cole, we had her in
- 11:28the podcast double mastectomy at age 15.
- 11:31Horrific stuff. Right now, she regrets it.
- 11:33Chloe's campaigning against this.
- 11:36So back to Miss Rachel. She has millions of viewers.
- 11:39They're like 2 year olds. So it's all these very young,
- 11:44extremely impressionable children that are just learning
- 11:47about how to see the world, how to see themselves, how to talk
- 11:50for the first time. And I'm going to pull up this
- 11:53comment here. But Dylan Mulvaney is a very now
- 11:57infamous or famous, depending on the quarters you talk about him
- 11:59in. He is a effectively a singer and
- 12:03actor who is thinking that he's a woman.
- 12:06And so he presents, tries to present as a woman.
- 12:08And he did the whole days of girlhood where he filmed himself
- 12:11talking about transitioning, he says, from the man to a woman.
- 12:15Well, here is Miss Rachel commenting on a TikTok video
- 12:21from Dylan Mulvaney and Miss Rachel, who is the guru of
- 12:25little kids today. I mean, she literally is like
- 12:28the Pied Piper. She is the, you know, child
- 12:31whisperer that all these kids love Miss Rachel because she
- 12:35pays attention to them through a street screen.
- 12:38Kids need attention from adults. They desperately need it.
- 12:41And some parents, whether you know, by fault of their own or
- 12:45other issues, they park their kids in front of Miss Rachel,
- 12:47right? I'm not saying, by the way, any
- 12:49TV is bad for kids. But Miss Rachel, this is her.
- 12:53These are her politics. This is her worldview.
- 12:55She says on this video of Dylan Mulvaney, Hey, sometime when
- 12:59you're in NYC, you should be on our show Songs for Littles.
- 13:04We love you and you're singing. So Miss Rachel is publicly here
- 13:08inviting transgender icon as they call him or they say it's a
- 13:14her. But Dylan to be on her show for
- 13:17the littlest of the children, the millions of children that
- 13:21she reaches out to. Now, I have to remind you what
- 13:25Dylan Mulvaney's content looks like.
- 13:26We're going to pull up a clip here if you don't already know,
- 13:30if you haven't already heard of Dylan Mulvaney and and let's
- 13:32pray for Dylan's conversion and for his healing.
- 13:35But here's an example of Dylan Mulvaney content.
- 13:38Just so you guys know who Miss Rachel is intending to put in
- 13:41front of millions of two year olds, we're going to play this
- 13:45video here. This is just sampling of the
- 13:47Dylan Mulvaney content that he puts up.
- 13:57OK, so here's Dylan Mulvaney for those listening on podcast app.
- 14:01He's wearing skimpy clothes, dancing around with big tails,
- 14:05saying this is the days of girlhood, doing this kind of
- 14:08sexy dance. And then later on in the song,
- 14:10there's lyrics about how the days of girlhood include hooking
- 14:13up, getting drunk and over shopping.
- 14:16This is what girlhood is girlhood, not womanhood.
- 14:19By the way, Dylan is saying this is what girlhood is.
- 14:23To dress in scantily clad clothing, dance provocatively,
- 14:28drink too much, kiss your friends and hook up sex and over
- 14:33shop. That's the days of girlhood.
- 14:35Let's just watch one more clip of Dylan.
- 14:37In case you need any more persuading that this is not a
- 14:40good influence, here's one other video.
- 14:42This is from Dylan's very popular TikTok, and this is an
- 14:46example of him basically persuading people that being
- 14:52trans, transitioning, taking hormone shots is normal,
- 14:56healthy, good, even glamorous. So here he is about to inject
- 15:02himself with hormones, and he's showing everyone how it's done.
- 15:07I mean, this is exactly the worst thing you could show to an
- 15:12impressive, impressionable young child.
- 15:14So we can pause here. We could keep watching Dylan
- 15:16videos. I'm not going to do that to you
- 15:17guys. But the point here is this, if
- 15:21you have your kids watching Miss Rachel, unfortunately they
- 15:23should not be watching Miss Rachel.
- 15:25She is not safe for kids. I hate to say that because she's
- 15:28so talented and some of her content is so engaging.
- 15:30But again, Miss Rachel is not safe for your kids because maybe
- 15:34she hasn't done it yet, but it looks like she's planning to do
- 15:36it now. Invite people who are trans
- 15:39ideology activist. Truly an activist.
- 15:42Dylan Mulvaney is an activist who's promoting not just danger
- 15:45gender ideology to kids, but who's bashing girlhood, quite
- 15:49frankly, and promoting promiscuity and and and
- 15:52addiction as somehow the days of girl had two very young
- 15:54children. And that's who Miss Rachel wants
- 15:57to put in front of your children.
- 15:59So don't let her do it. Don't engage with media that is
- 16:02toxic to your kids. I mean, that is the bottom line
- 16:04here. All right, let's get to Harrison
- 16:08Bucker and to women's roles in society.
- 16:12I'm going to check the YouTube chat here.
- 16:14Hello, Isaac from South Dakota, thanks for being here.
- 16:17We've got someone from France. Hi, Carmen from France, very
- 16:20cool to have you here. Thanks for joining.
- 16:24We've got a lot of content on the podcast about women,
- 16:29femininity, men, masculinity. I think it's so important
- 16:32because just like we saw from Dylan Mulvaney as an example,
- 16:36people are very confused about what it means to be a man or a
- 16:39woman. According to Dylan Mulvaney,
- 16:41being a girl means dressing with pigtails can be closed and over
- 16:45drinking and over shopping, right?
- 16:47And wearing long nails. Like that's femininity.
- 16:50And according to some in our culture, masculinity, like the
- 16:54extreme Andrew Tate version of it, is this machismo where
- 16:57you're non monogamous, you don't settle down, you are a Playboy,
- 17:01you just get really rich and powerful, right?
- 17:04So there are these extremes. Let's watch the clip of what
- 17:07Harrison Bucker, the Kansas City Chiefs star, said to an audience
- 17:13of students graduating from Benedictine College.
- 17:16So he gave this commencement speech.
- 17:18This video of his speech went viral.
- 17:21Millions of people have watched it.
- 17:23Now, there's ongoing debate and controversy about his comments,
- 17:27especially some of his comments about women.
- 17:30Now, the context is important. He's speaking to a Catholic
- 17:34audience at a very, you could call it conservative Catholic
- 17:36college. By the way, I love Benedictine
- 17:38College. I love the president, Stephen
- 17:40Menace. I think they're an amazing
- 17:41school. Some of our folks over at Live
- 17:43Action graduated from Benedictine.
- 17:45So this is close to home. And let's see what caused all
- 17:48the uproar from Harrison Becker. Let's play that clip next.
- 17:55And the world is enlightened by your example.
- 17:58For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing
- 18:02accomplishment. You should be proud of all that
- 18:04you have achieved to this point in your young lives.
- 18:07I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is
- 18:10you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to
- 18:13you. How many of you are sitting here
- 18:15now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the
- 18:18promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?
- 18:22Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world,
- 18:25but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are
- 18:27most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring
- 18:30into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful
- 18:33wife Isabel would be the first to say.
- 18:36I think already there was some ire over this comment about
- 18:39you're sitting there and not necessarily thinking about your
- 18:41careers and your promotions, but about being a wife and a mother,
- 18:44about your future family. And I can tell you with with
- 18:48confidence that's completely true.
- 18:50Yes, the majority of Benedictine young women who are graduating
- 18:54and in most Catholic colleges, and in fact many colleges,
- 18:57period, Yes, they are thinking about their future family and
- 19:00the family that they want more than they're thinking about
- 19:03their career. Now, many are thinking about
- 19:05their career and that's not a problem.
- 19:08I mean, Harrison Butker never says that's a problem.
- 19:10Actually in his speech, that's one of the things he doesn't
- 19:13say. He never says it's a problem for
- 19:15a woman to want or have a career.
- 19:17He does not say that. Let's see what he does say next.
- 19:23Her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a
- 19:27wife and as a mother. I'm on this stage today and able
- 19:31to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her
- 19:35location. I'm beyond blessed with the many
- 19:38talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of
- 19:42my success is made possible because a girl I met in band
- 19:46class back in middle school would converge to the faith,
- 19:53become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of
- 19:57all, Homemaker All. Right.
- 20:00We can pause it here. There's a big uproarious
- 20:03applause for Harrison after he says that.
- 20:07There was a event last weekend that Harrison spoke at the first
- 20:10public event since he gave this commencement speech a couple
- 20:12weeks ago, and he doubled down on his statements because he got
- 20:14a lot of blowback. He had a lot of folks just
- 20:19lambasting him for how dare he demean women, put women down,
- 20:24say that women should just be homemakers.
- 20:27Even the sisters, I think the Benedictine sisters who are
- 20:29associated with Benedictine College, issued a statement
- 20:32saying that this is not the case for all women.
- 20:35We do not agree with Harrison Bucker's statements.
- 20:38Some women are not called to be homemakers or even biological
- 20:41mothers, are called to be sisters or religious,
- 20:43consecrated celibates. So there's that statement.
- 20:46So he was even getting some friendly fire.
- 20:49I want to just note something that's so important.
- 20:52He did not say, Harrison Bucker did not say in the speech that
- 20:56all women believe that their life started when they became a
- 21:00wife and a mother or that all women should be wives and
- 21:02mothers or that women, no woman, should have a career.
- 21:05He never said any of that. What he did say was that for his
- 21:09wife Isabel, she felt that her life started when she became a
- 21:13life, a wife and a mother, and that he is so eternally grateful
- 21:17to her for embracing one of the most important vocations, he
- 21:21said, one of which is being a homemaker.
- 21:24Now I want to break down a couple things here that I think
- 21:26are so important because I think really there was a ton of
- 21:29misunderstanding about this. And right now the chats going
- 21:33about it and someone, Bobby says people are mad because he said
- 21:3690% of of what people are are thinking but are afraid to say
- 21:40Bingo. I think many people deep down,
- 21:42we know that many women, they want to be wife and mothers more
- 21:46than a career. And in addition to that, many
- 21:50women, including myself, feel that in many ways, life does
- 21:54begin, Life did begin for me in a new way with my vocation of
- 21:57being a wife and a mother. And that my vocation that I'm
- 22:00living and I'm very privileged to live is more important my
- 22:04vocation of being a wife and a mother than even doing this
- 22:06awesome podcast I get to do right now.
- 22:07It's more important than my work at Live action.
- 22:09It's more important than any creative work or missionary work
- 22:12I do outside my home. My primary vocation is to be a
- 22:16wife and a mother. It is to safeguard and to love
- 22:20my husband and my children and to nurture and nourish and be
- 22:25there for them. That is my primary vocation.
- 22:27That is my primary way I can love God is by loving my family
- 22:31now. Harrison Becker did not say that
- 22:34if you're a young woman and you're not married yet, you are
- 22:37not valuable, you're not important.
- 22:38He didn't say your life hasn't begun.
- 22:40If you are a young woman who's not married yet, or you're a
- 22:43young woman who doesn't even want to get married or may never
- 22:45marry, or an older woman who is not married, he didn't say any
- 22:47of that. I can understand why people
- 22:50listening to that speech might feel offended because they feel
- 22:52like they were left out. He didn't address the role of
- 22:56consecrated religious. He didn't address the role of
- 22:59single women who never marry and the way they can provide and
- 23:02support in society. He didn't address the role of
- 23:05women who, unlike his wife Isabel, are homemakers and also
- 23:09work outside the home. Myself is included in that
- 23:12group, by the way. He didn't talk about those
- 23:14folks, but did he have to? I understand that people would
- 23:18say, well, it was a commencement speech.
- 23:19He's kind of sharing these examples like his wife.
- 23:22He should know that people would feel left out.
- 23:24Maybe. I can kind of see the argument
- 23:26that maybe he could have said more about their other roles,
- 23:29too. But I think he was trying to
- 23:31show appreciation for his wife and for the women who choose
- 23:37that path of focusing almost exclusively their attention on
- 23:41their home and on their community.
- 23:43There's something very beautiful about that and very good.
- 23:46I mean, it's something that's good.
- 23:47It's not for everyone. Every woman has a different
- 23:50call. Every man has a different call
- 23:52for how they live out their individual talents and where God
- 23:55may be prompting them in their life.
- 23:57But I do think our society under values the role of home making
- 24:03at large. And I know this from personal
- 24:05experience because I went to UCLAI know a lot of I have a lot
- 24:09of girlfriends. They went to college, they got
- 24:10higher degrees. One of my best friends, she got
- 24:132 masters, APHD. Another friend of mine, another
- 24:16friend of mine, a doctor. And society is telling them, go
- 24:19girl, you got this. We need more women in STEM.
- 24:21We need more women in the boardroom.
- 24:23You know, Sheryl Sandberg is writing Lean In and she's saying
- 24:25women should be 5050% at minimum on, you know, CEO, at the CEO
- 24:30level, at the executive level, at the C-Suite.
- 24:33Well, here's the reality. Why?
- 24:36Why do we have to be everywhere exactly where men are?
- 24:40What if we don't want to be? What if we prefer to choose to
- 24:44invest elsewhere? And what if it is actually
- 24:47better for many women to choose to embrace their natural role of
- 24:53being a mother and for us to acknowledge that being a mother
- 24:55is different from being a father.
- 24:57And as a young mother, especially young children, you
- 25:00can't and you shouldn't be pursuing that, You know, 60 hour
- 25:03work week where you're off in a corporate office somewhere in a
- 25:05high rise. You should be close to your kids
- 25:08caring for your kids. You should be there for your
- 25:10kids as best you can. And that's why I love the
- 25:13flexibility of a lot of remote work today.
- 25:15I mean, I'm blessed to work remotely most of the time.
- 25:18The flexibility of of arrangements where work does
- 25:21not, you know, the, the, the, the dog, the tail of the dog is
- 25:24not being wagged by the work, but that you choose to organize
- 25:28the work to ultimately serve the family.
- 25:30I think that's the ideal that we can pursue.
- 25:32And I think employer should want for their families as well,
- 25:34especially women who are working.
- 25:36So again, Harrison Bucker did not disparage anyone.
- 25:40He merely uplifted his wife and this role that she has, which is
- 25:44beautiful. There's no church teaching that
- 25:46says women have to have the life Isabelle Bucker has.
- 25:50And she has, I'm sure, very beautiful life.
- 25:51She's married to a superstar football player.
- 25:54You know, she's, she's got tons of resources, I'm sure.
- 25:57But no one is saying that you have to do it their way.
- 26:01But what Harrison Bucker is saying is this is a beautiful
- 26:03way that we have found such beauty and meaning in and that
- 26:06society often doesn't embrace or accept.
- 26:09A couple more things here that are important to note In the
- 26:13Christian teaching on gender roles, it's very clear that
- 26:17there is equal dignity of both men and women according to God.
- 26:21God created men and women. He created them equal and he
- 26:24created them both in his own image.
- 26:26So Genesis 127 says, so God created man in his own image, in
- 26:31the image of God. He created them, male and
- 26:35female. He created them.
- 26:37Genesis doesn't say God created man and then and man is in God's
- 26:41image and then this woman is not God's image and she's less
- 26:43important. She's supposed to be second
- 26:45class citizen. No, that's not what the Bible
- 26:48says. That's not the Christian
- 26:49teaching. Men and women are equal in
- 26:51dignity, and men and women are both in the image of God.
- 26:56So as Christians, we can know that any conversation about
- 26:59gender roles and how you should live out your gender role in a
- 27:02society has to come from the foundation of equal and shared
- 27:07dignity, both made in the image of God.
- 27:10Not just men are made in the image of God.
- 27:11Women are equally made in the image of God.
- 27:14That's so important for us to acknowledge.
- 27:18A second thing that I think it's so important for us to
- 27:19acknowledge is that all men and all women, if not called to
- 27:23biological fatherhood and motherhood, are called in the
- 27:28maturity that they are meant to ultimately live out motherhood
- 27:33and fatherhood spiritually. What does that mean?
- 27:37Mothers and fathers are able to then give back to the next
- 27:40generation, right? That's what they do.
- 27:41They mother, they father, they lead, they guide, they nourish,
- 27:43they bring life into the world. If you're not doing that as an
- 27:47adult, physically, in bringing kids into the world, you're
- 27:51married. That's your call, that's your
- 27:52blessing. You should, as an adult, I
- 27:54believe, be doing that in other ways spiritually.
- 27:57That's what priests do, right? They're called fathers.
- 27:59They're spiritual fathers, mothers, nuns.
- 28:02Like Mother Angelica was a spiritual mother.
- 28:04Even if you're not a religious, you're a single, right?
- 28:07Or you're a married couple that can't have children naturally,
- 28:09right? You can have spiritual and be a
- 28:11spiritual mother and father to help other families in the
- 28:14community, other children, other people younger or more
- 28:17spiritually young than you. By loving, serving, teaching,
- 28:23encouraging, doing all the things that a good mother and a
- 28:26father do. That's our job.
- 28:28Someone nourished us growing up. Someone helped us achieve
- 28:31whatever maturity we have today. We should give that back, OK?
- 28:35And there's beauty and honor in that.
- 28:37So any career you choose, any passion you have to achieve
- 28:42something should be ordered towards service of others,
- 28:45towards ultimately a mothering and a fathering, a giving back
- 28:48to the next generation and to others.
- 28:50That's ultimately why we're giving our talents as Christians
- 28:54is to build the Kingdom of God and to maximize the gifts that
- 28:57we have in and outside the home to serve others, to build the
- 29:00Kingdom of God. The last thing I'm going to say
- 29:03about this and Harrison Butkers comments is that yes, being a
- 29:09homemaker is not a dirty word of first of all, and that women do
- 29:14play different roles in society that yes, naturally many women
- 29:20are more interested in and that's OK and more capable of
- 29:24and that's OK. The work of home making.
- 29:26Now this is very controversial because some men are better at a
- 29:29lot of home making activities than some women.
- 29:32And in some Catholic or Christian marriages, the man may
- 29:36be doing more around the home and more with a lot of the
- 29:39children, especially if they're older children than the woman
- 29:41may be doing. There are some arrangements
- 29:43which are still Christian arrangements, where the woman
- 29:46maybe is more of the breadwinner and the man is more involved in
- 29:50the domestic activity of the home.
- 29:51This is not a right or a wrong, but what is right or wrong is
- 29:56either spouse rejecting care for the home, care for the children.
- 30:00And what is right or wrong is a mother or a father, if they have
- 30:03children, rejecting being a mother or father.
- 30:07And I would say that it is harmful in a society when we
- 30:11pretend that for very young children, mother and father are
- 30:15interchangeable, because they're not.
- 30:17They're simply not. I shouldn't have to persuade you
- 30:20of this because the reality is women alone get pregnant.
- 30:23Women alone gestate the child. Women alone can nurse that
- 30:26child. And very young children need
- 30:29their mothers in a special way more than anyone else.
- 30:32They still need their dads. They still need other people
- 30:34involved, but they need their mothers more than anyone else.
- 30:37I would not survive in big law or, you know, have running a
- 30:41doctor's practice or any number of careers.
- 30:43As a mother of very young children, I think I would really
- 30:45struggle. I'm not saying it's impossible
- 30:46for other women, but what I am saying is being able to be there
- 30:50for my very young children regularly throughout the day,
- 30:53even as I'm involved in other work, has been crucial, I
- 30:55believe, for my relationship with them, my bond with them.
- 30:58And I want to encourage you listening that it is a good
- 31:02thing to spend that extra time to make sacrifices as a mother
- 31:06of young children or if you're a father who has a mother of young
- 31:09children you're married to, encourage that special time in
- 31:12that bond so that mother can be there for her kids.
- 31:15The outcomes show, according to the social data, that children
- 31:18that have that primary bond with their ideally biological mother,
- 31:22it's not always possible, are very much set up for success.
- 31:25It's healthy for their brain development.
- 31:27It's healthy for them as they grow.
- 31:29It helps with their emotional regulation.
- 31:31And so providing that for our young children is so key.
- 31:35And that is one of the reasons why we have the gender role of
- 31:38the father is providing, right? There's the provider role and
- 31:43the mother is nurturing, and that's not a bad thing.
- 31:46Again, it's going to look different for certain families
- 31:49for extreme circumstances. Sometimes there's challenges
- 31:52outside of our control. I could do all these caveats,
- 31:55but we should not run away from the word homemaker as a society
- 31:58and we should not think that it's a dirty word and we should
- 32:01celebrate that. Within the home.
- 32:03There are natural roles that have evolved that take place
- 32:07that have to do with a mother mothering and a father fathering
- 32:09and how they help each other do that incredibly important work.
- 32:14All right, So Harrison Butker, Congrats on all of your great
- 32:18wins. I mean, I'm not a huge football
- 32:21fan. I will admit that.
- 32:22I'm not going to pretend I am, but I know you're, you know, I
- 32:24know you won the Super Bowl, so I know that much.
- 32:27And Congrats on your beautiful family, most importantly, and
- 32:30thank you for being an example, a beautiful example of family
- 32:33life. I'd love to hear your thoughts
- 32:35on all this guys. Some of you guys have been

- 34:02I've met him. He's so kind and so generous,
- 34:05very smart, savvy, great guy. sevenweekscoffee.com.
- 34:08Check it out today. All right, So what did Pope
- 34:11Francis say? He's always in hot water,
- 34:14according to someone. I was always upset at the Pope.
- 34:16Right now, it's either the right or the left.
- 34:18They take turns getting upset at the Pope.
- 34:21Listen, if you get upset at the Pope, I would recommend they
- 34:25take a deep breath, say a prayer for him and move on.
- 34:29Because the first thing I'm going to say is this.
- 34:31The Catholic Church is not going to change their teaching on
- 34:33faith and morals. Nope, it's not going to happen.
- 34:362000 years stayed true. There have been no changes.
- 34:40If you're far left and you want them to make women be priests,
- 34:43not going to happen. If you're, you know, I'm, I'm, I
- 34:48don't like the term far wet right necessarily.
- 34:50But if you're kind of in an extremely other direction and
- 34:53you think that the Pope should say and the church should say
- 34:55women should never work and that should be the teaching of the
- 34:58Catholic Church, that's not going to happen.
- 35:00Of course, women work. We've always worked and men
- 35:02always work and we should work together.
- 35:04Pope Francis sometimes in interviews or in private
- 35:08audiences will talk kind of off the cuff.
- 35:11You know, he may say things that sound surprising to people on
- 35:15the left or the right, but unless he is talking from the
- 35:18seat of Peter ex cathedra in his official capacity as the Pope,
- 35:23in the infallible capacity as Pope for the whole of
- 35:27Christendom on the matters of faith and morals, then what he
- 35:30says to a journalist on an airplane is not church teaching.
- 35:34I think it's really important. I know it can be confusing.
- 35:37And I'm, I'm not saying it's not a problem that it's confusing,
- 35:40but there's a particular way that the Pope delivers
- 35:44infallible messages to the church that are the church's
- 35:47official teaching, as they have been for 2000 years.
- 35:50And that's if he's giving a decree from the seat of Peter.
- 35:53There's a formality to it, to all of Chris and dumb.
- 35:56And it has to be on the matter of faith or morals.
- 35:58So let's just say that first. But what did he say?
- 36:01So this was a 60 Minutes interview and he was asked about
- 36:06the priesthood and the diaconate for women.
- 36:10Can women, can men, can women be priests or deacons?
- 36:15Why is it just for men and why has it been that way?
- 36:19There is a movement within the church or outside of the church.
- 36:23There are some people who say they're Catholics who I think
- 36:25are sincerely trying to be Catholics, who really want women
- 36:28to be priests. That does exist in the church
- 36:31and it certainly exists outside the Church.
- 36:33People say, well, why do just men get this?
- 36:35It's not fair, etcetera. What did Pope Francis say?
- 36:38Let's take a listen. For a little girl growing up
- 36:43Catholic today, will she ever have the opportunity to be a
- 36:48Deacon and participate as a clergy member in the church?
- 36:53No. For a little girl, let's just
- 36:56watch it one more time. You just play it one more time.
- 36:58Growing up Catholic today, will she ever have the opportunity to
- 37:03be a Deacon and participate as a clergy member in the church?
- 37:08No, for OK, we can put that on a loop.
- 37:11No, that's it. No, I appreciate the candor of
- 37:16the Pope here, the Holy Father. No, it doesn't know it's not
- 37:18going to happen. They would lengthy explanation
- 37:20for why it's just not going to happen.
- 37:22People are like, why? Why can't women be priests?
- 37:25I'm going to give you the answer and it may be more simple than
- 37:28you think. It doesn't have to do with Oh
- 37:30well, men are smarter and stronger and better.
- 37:33Oh, men are more like God and Jesus than women, Or that, oh,
- 37:37men are, you know, more naturally stable than women?
- 37:43No, it has nothing to do with that.
- 37:45OK, there are some people who will make arguments about men.
- 37:48Male nature versus female nature.
- 37:51And God chose male nature to be priests because female nature is
- 37:56not good enough to be a priest in that way.
- 37:58No, none of that is true. That's all inaccurate false
- 38:02error. That is not the reason that
- 38:04women can't be priests. The reason that women can't be
- 38:07priests is because according to Jesus Christ himself divinely
- 38:12revealing it to us, his Church, He gave the power to be priests
- 38:19only to men. That's it.
- 38:21He chose men. He is a man, yes, and he chose
- 38:24men for that. And you know, he chose a woman
- 38:27to be his mother and he chooses only women to be mothers.
- 38:30God's, God's design. God chose Bethlehem to be where
- 38:33he was born. Does that mean Bethlehem is the
- 38:36only our most special place in the world, that no other city or
- 38:39town is important or as valuable?
- 38:42No God chooses bread and wine to be his body and blood.
- 38:46And that's what he instituted when he instituted both the
- 38:48priesthood and the Eucharist he gave him.
- 38:50You know, he's sitting down instituting the priesthood,
- 38:52telling them about how to do consecration as priests.
- 38:55And I'm showing them what it means to be a priest.
- 38:58And that whole practice of his discipling his apostles was
- 39:02teaching them for the priesthood.
- 39:04But ultimately he chose bread and wine.
- 39:06Why? Is there some reason that
- 39:07logically bread and wine works best for communion?
- 39:11God chose that. God chose it.
- 39:14And sometimes with divine revelation, we can't reason or
- 39:17rationalize our way to the same conclusion, right?
- 39:19The Trinity reasoning and rationalizing our way to the
- 39:22conclusion of why God is 3 persons and one person or one
- 39:26godhead. Why that is the case in some
- 39:28sense in the human logic, it's we can't understand it, right?
- 39:32But it's divinely given to us as revelation.
- 39:34So we can accept it divinely as revelation.
- 39:36So that's why the Pope is like, no, Jesus instituted it this
- 39:40way. It's been this way for 2000
- 39:42years. It will always be this way.
- 39:44Why? Because Jesus said so.
- 39:47There you go. I hope that's enough for the
- 39:50Christians listening. It should be enough for the
- 39:51Christians listening. And if you're not a Christian
- 39:53and you're like, I still don't like that.
- 39:55I don't buy that, OK, You don't have to.
- 39:57You you're, you're choosing not to follow Jesus Christ.
- 40:00That's OK. I mean, I would say it's not OK,
- 40:02you should follow Jesus Christ. Your life will be eternally
- 40:05better because of it, and you need Jesus.
- 40:08But Jesus is not forcing you to believe in him or in his
- 40:13teachings, including his teaching on the priesthood.
- 40:16You can defy it and say I don't believe it, but that's what
- 40:18Jesus taught and that's what we obey.
- 40:19OK, So that's what the Holy Father said.
- 40:22No now. Because only men can be priests
- 40:25in no way means that women aren't valuable or as have as
- 40:29much dignity and honor. Zero.
- 40:33The man's beautiful vocation of being able to be a father.
- 40:36A priest does not take away from a woman's beautiful vocation to
- 40:41be a mother, or to be a sister or religious sister or religious
- 40:44mother or a nun, or to be a biological mother or spiritual
- 40:47mother. Someone else's beautiful
- 40:50vocation doesn't mean that your vocation isn't beautiful or your
- 40:54life and your calling isn't beautiful.
- 40:57So I think that a lot of the whole clutching at, well, why
- 41:00can't women be priests? And you know, it comes from a
- 41:03deep insecurity, quite frankly, that somehow it's not good
- 41:06enough for us to not be priests as women, that we have to be
- 41:09priests. We have to do everything that
- 41:10men do. No, you don't.
- 41:12Men don't give birth. There's a, there's a lot of
- 41:14things men can't do that we do. And why is it?
- 41:18Does that mean men aren't as good as us?
- 41:19No, of course not. It just means that we're
- 41:21different. And I think that's beautiful and
- 41:24that's part of God's design and we should embrace it and we
- 41:27should not wrestle against it. We should just embrace it.
- 41:30So there's some other stuff that Pope Francis said as well beyond
- 41:35no, women can't be priests. We're going to actually talk
- 41:38about some of that over at the Locals page.
- 41:41We're going to be streaming on locals here shortly.
- 41:44I think there's a link in the bio for it.
- 41:47Not quite yet. You got to go to locals.com to
- 41:49my page there. If you're already a member, it's
- 41:51going to show up for you. But we're going to be there in
- 41:53just a few minutes to do a special exclusive live stream
- 41:56just for our Locals members. So check it out over there.
- 42:00And we're going to talk about the Pope's comments about
- 42:02seminarians because he made other comments recently that
- 42:06sounded for some people derogatory towards people with
- 42:09same sex attraction. We're going to break that down
- 42:11over on the locals page. I'm going to go back to the chat
- 42:13over here. If you have any questions, put
- 42:15them in here. Thanks so much for all the
- 42:17comments, everybody. Zach is saying I'm a Christ
- 42:20follower, husband, father and pastor in that order.
- 42:24That's awesome. Great order right there, by the
- 42:26way. Thank you, Zach.
- 42:28He says men can also value their calling as husbands and fathers
- 42:32over their professional calling. Keep up the good work.
- 42:34Really love that. I really love that Zach brought
- 42:38this up because thank you, Zach, because Harrison Bucker actually
- 42:41said that in the commencement speech that he actually thanked
- 42:44his wife. We didn't play this clip, but he
- 42:45thanked his wife for helping him always choose ultimately his
- 42:49role as husband and father over his career.
- 42:52And I thought that was so beautiful because he has an
- 42:54extremely demanding career being in the NFL.
- 42:58And, you know, there was a whole Tom Brady controversy about Tom
- 43:02Brady and his wife Gazelle, who was saying that she didn't want
- 43:06to be with him because she was prioritizing his career over
- 43:09her. And, you know, there was,
- 43:10unfortunately, a divorce from that.
- 43:12And it's very beautiful that Harrison publicly is saying my
- 43:15first priority is my wife and my children.
- 43:18I love that. So thank you for that comment,
- 43:20Zach. Some other comments here, Lynn
- 43:24Burroughs. It's not logic.
- 43:25It's faith. Yeah.
- 43:26Talking about why only men can be priests.
- 43:28Exactly. It's not like there's some
- 43:30logical explanation why men can be priests because they're
- 43:33somehow better at being priests in this XYZ way.
- 43:36No, it's just faith. It's a matter of faith.
- 43:39This is what God gave us. This is what God's teaching as
- 43:42Jesus is teaching is on this. We are going to be over at local
- 43:46shortly, but I want to also pull up a couple questions here.
- 43:52I'm going to also thank our last sponsor, which is Every Life.

- 44:48can use the code Lila for 10% off your order.
- 44:52I want to address a couple other quick things before we wrap
- 44:55here. There's a crushing in from Nino.
- 44:58Would you be able to bring Gabby after hours to talk about Mother
- 45:01Mary, her spiritual motherhood and the rosary?
- 45:04Thanks for the tip. I will check them out.
- 45:07Nina's also quoting Fulton Sheen, who says if Jesus wanted
- 45:11women to be priests, he would have made his Blessed Mother one
- 45:15out of all the men and women followers.
- 45:16Jesus spent a night in prayer before choosing the 12.
- 45:19That's a great quote. He said it.
- 45:21He said it so well. Why didn't he choose mother,
- 45:24Mother Mary to be a priest? She had a very high calling.
- 45:26She didn't need to be a priest. She was the mother of God.
- 45:29We all have different callings and that's beautiful and that's
- 45:31good. Thank you for that.
- 45:34There was a lot. There has been a lot of
- 45:37questions I've been getting about and I'm going to mention
- 45:40this because I have been talking about on the podcast but haven't
- 45:43talked about it recently about the Gaza Israel war.
- 45:47I wanted to have an expert on the podcast who talked about the
- 45:51perspective of the Palestinian crisis because there is an
- 45:53absolute humanitarian crisis happening.
- 45:55Gaza continue to send me your suggestions.
- 45:58We haven't landed the right guest yet.
- 45:59We're looking for someone who can talk about this
- 46:01intelligently and passionately and share their perspective.
- 46:05But I've always been looking at both sides of the conflict.
- 46:08But ultimately I look at what Hamas did on October 7th and I
- 46:13see that as an absolute atrocity and Israel is trying to
- 46:17ultimately wipe out Hamas. It's extremely difficult to do
- 46:20when Gaza is filled with women and children who also deserve
- 46:23protection and are innocent and families.
- 46:26So we're going to talk about that more in the show.
- 46:28I promised to do that earlier this year.
- 46:30We're still going to be doing that, but send me your
- 46:32suggestions. Send me your ideas for that and
- 46:34we will get to that in the future programming.
- 46:36All right, guys, thank you so much for joining the show.
- 46:38We're going to be over at Locals shortly to do AQ and a with just
- 46:41the Locals audience and questions that we've been
- 46:43getting in over there. Check it out at locals.com and
- 46:46for those watching this later at the link will be in the bio for
- 46:48that if you want to join the Locals community and we'll see
- 46:51you guys all next time. Thanks so much for joining.
