Transcript
- 0:00It may be the
- 0:00dog days of summer, but the US stock market isn't taking any time
- 0:04to relax
- 0:04as the second quarter earnings season kicks into full gear.
- 0:08So for the quarter,
- 0:09we're expecting S&P 500 earnings to grow by about 5%.
- 0:13Given resilient economic data that has so far held up
- 0:16despite continued uncertainty around trade policy.
- 0:20Now, 5% does represent a slowdown from previous quarters.
- 0:24So what is driving this change? In our view,
- 0:27the slowdown will be driven by Magnificent 7 earnings growth,
- 0:31which accounts now nearly for a quarter of total S&P 500 profits.
- 0:35However,
- 0:36we don't think that the outlook
- 0:37for these companies is necessarily impaired,
- 0:40as AI deployment and adoption continue to gain traction.
- 0:44Outside of the Magnificent 7 and AI, management
- 0:47teams will likely hit on topics including tariffs.
- 0:50With companies now having a full quarter under their belt
- 0:53to better figure out how to best navigate the new environment.
- 0:56The weaker US dollar,
- 0:58which should provide a slightly positive impact to earnings,
- 1:01and the One Big Beautiful Bill, which does include provisions
- 1:05that should provide a modest boost to S&P 500 cash
- 1:08flows and provides incentives for capital spending.
- 1:11So in the coming weeks,
- 1:13we expect investors will have a better sense of which companies
- 1:16are cruising at altitude
- 1:17and which are starting to hit some turbulence.
