- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome to Connecting the Dots, the show
- 0:17where we cut through the noise and deliver the
- 0:19essential insights you need to know. I'm Alex.
- 0:22And I'm Morgan. We're coming to you live from
- 0:24Snarful Solutions Group right here in Sacramento,
- 0:26California. And it is Friday, November 28th.
- 0:302025. We've made it to the end of the week and
- 0:32we have a few key connections to make for you.
- 0:34We certainly do. Before we jump into the markets
- 0:37and the Morningstar, let's quickly touch on the
- 0:40atmosphere. Here in Sacramento, we're looking
- 0:42at some patchy fog rolling in tonight. Yeah,
- 0:44getting a little chilly dipping down to a low
- 0:46of 40 degrees. But nationally, it's a completely
- 0:49different story. Conditions are getting pretty
- 0:51serious. Oh, yeah. If you're traveling anywhere
- 0:53across the northern U .S. or the interior northeast,
- 0:57Please be careful. We're talking severe winter
- 1:00weather. Heavy lake effects, snow, snow squalls,
- 1:04gusty winds, just making travel really challenging
- 1:07from the plains all the way to the Western Great
- 1:09Lakes. So stay alert out there. Definitely. Absolutely.
- 1:12Now let's quickly talk money because it's been
- 1:14a, well, it's been a great week. A very good
- 1:17week. The Dow Jones closed strong today, pushing
- 1:20up, what was it, almost half a percent? Yeah,
- 1:220 .49 % to 47 ,716 .42, which locks in a weekly
- 1:28gain of nearly 3%. Wow. And the S &P 500 followed
- 1:32suit, right? It did. Closed up 0 .39 % for the
- 1:35day, and it's showing a really robust weekly
- 1:37gain of 3 .2%. Traditional markets are certainly
- 1:40enjoying this momentum. Totally. And even with
- 1:43Bitcoin. Yeah. It had a slight daily dip today.
- 1:46Just a little one, down about .42 % to $90 ,924.
- 1:51But the key here is, since Monday, it is still
- 1:54up over 3%. So strong bullish signals pretty
- 1:58much across the board heading into the weekend.
- 2:00It's an excellent start to the holiday shopping
- 2:02season for those portfolios. And, you know, speaking
- 2:05of shopping, this is a perfect time to mention
- 2:07our fantastic sponsor, Old Glory. Absolutely.
- 2:10If you are starting to think about gifts for
- 2:12your techie friend or, honestly, any fan of music
- 2:15and sports, Old Glory is the iconic one -stop
- 2:18shop for high -quality fan merch and gear. They've
- 2:21got some really great stuff for the holidays.
- 2:23They do. And right now, they're offering you
- 2:2515 % off your entire purchase. Just use the promo
- 2:28code SNARFL at checkout. That's at oldglory .com.
- 2:32All right. Let's get right into our analysis
- 2:34with the Morningstar Report. We have three stories
- 2:37today, all connecting the dots between finance,
- 2:40cloud competition, and global regulation. And
- 2:44we're starting on the volatile crypto front.
- 2:46We're looking at a headline that might sound
- 2:47like a retreat, but it's actually a pretty strategic
- 2:50move. Yeah, that's right. So we saw Europe's
- 2:53largest digital asset ETP manager, CoinShares.
- 2:56This is a company handling about $10 billion
- 2:58in assets. $10 billion. They formally withdrew
- 3:01their SEC registration filings. And they pulled
- 3:03three specific products. Yeah. the XRP ETF, the
- 3:07Solana staking ETF, and the Litecoin ETF. So
- 3:10when you read that, especially since CoinShares
- 3:13just announced this massive $1 .2 billion merger
- 3:16to go public on Nasdaq, the first thought is,
- 3:19wait, are they backing off? Is institutional
- 3:21interest losing steam after all that excitement?
- 3:23Exactly. It totally looks like a retreat. But
- 3:26the fascinating part here is that the reasoning
- 3:28is all about regulatory simplification. So this
- 3:31isn't a recreet at all. It's just streamlining
- 3:33the process. The SEC actually told altcoin ETF
- 3:37applicants to pull those specific filings, the
- 3:4019B4s. Wait, the SEC asked them to withdraw the
- 3:44paperwork. That feels so counterintuitive. It
- 3:48does, until you realize why. The SEC recently
- 3:51approved new generic listing standards. Okay.
- 3:54And these new standards make the old complicated
- 3:5719D4 filings redundant for certain products.
- 4:01Now issuers only need to submit the simpler S1
- 4:04filings. So coin shares is just cleaning house.
- 4:07They're getting rid of unnecessary paperwork
- 4:09to match the new easier regulatory reality. It's
- 4:12like if you're trying to build a new financial
- 4:14product, it's like the government decided you
- 4:16don't need the complex environmental review form
- 4:18anymore, just the basic planning application.
- 4:20Right. You still want to build the product. You
- 4:22just have an easier path. Exactly. And the market
- 4:24demand is clearly still there. I mean, we already
- 4:27have spot XRP ETFs accumulating over 800 million
- 4:30dollars in assets in the U .S. alone. And the
- 4:33Bitwise Solana Staking ETF, BSOL, that just launched
- 4:37and is already yielding around 7 percent. So
- 4:39this withdrawal is actually a subtle But very
- 4:42positive sign. The regulatory path is getting
- 4:45less cluttered for altcoins. That's a massive
- 4:48insight that the initial headlines just completely
- 4:50miss. We've connected the first dot. It's streamlining
- 4:53not collapse in the crypto ETF world. OK, let's
- 4:57pivot now from financial products to the global
- 4:59cloud wars. Where one legal battle just vanished
- 5:03and it signals a major strategic shift. We're
- 5:06talking about Google. They decided this week.
- 5:08to withdraw the antitrust complaint they filed
- 5:10back in 2024 against Microsoft's cloud computing
- 5:14practices in the EU. And not surprisingly, Microsoft
- 5:17stock ticked up almost 1 .32 % on the news. That's
- 5:21a huge legal headache going for Microsoft, but
- 5:23I don't see this as Google throwing in the towel.
- 5:25No, not at all. It seems more like Google is
- 5:28shifting from that expensive drawn out process
- 5:31of litigation to prioritizing direct competition
- 5:35and innovation. That is the core takeaway for
- 5:38you, the listener. Google is currently playing
- 5:40catch -up. They hold about 13 % of the cloud
- 5:42market. Which is trailing Amazon at 30 % and
- 5:45Microsoft at 20%. Exactly. So they realized that
- 5:48every dollar spent on lawyers arguing about past
- 5:51practices is a dollar not spent on building the
- 5:54next generation of AI -powered cloud services.
- 5:57It's the classic pivot, right? Stop fighting
- 5:59the court battles and start winning the customer
- 6:01wars. A very strategic long -term play for Google
- 6:04Cloud, for sure. They're focusing resources squarely
- 6:07on innovation and enterprise tools to close that
- 6:10seven -point gap against Microsoft. However,
- 6:12and this is a big however, while Google dropped
- 6:15its specific complaint, It's critical to remember
- 6:18this does not end Microsoft's regulatory trouble
- 6:20in Europe. Right. And here's where the dot connecting
- 6:23gets crucial. The EU's broader investigation
- 6:27into Microsoft's Azure cloud licensing practices
- 6:29is still very much active. Absolutely. They're
- 6:32looking into the fundamental structure of their
- 6:34business relationships. The regulators are intensely
- 6:36scrutinizing what they call entanglement. They're
- 6:40investigating whether Microsoft uses restrictive
- 6:42contracts deep bundling discounts and tight links
- 6:46to legacy products like Windows and Office to
- 6:50unfairly lock customers into the Azure ecosystem.
- 6:53So if you make it too costly or too complex for
- 6:56a customer to leave Azure for Google or Amazon,
- 6:58that could be a huge competition law violation.
- 7:01That's the heart of it. They're looking at whether
- 7:03those bundling practices are fundamentally hindering
- 7:05competition. So even without Google pushing the
- 7:08complaint, the threat of mandated changes or
- 7:11massive fines still hangs over Microsoft's growth
- 7:15in Europe. And Europe is a market that is increasingly
- 7:17demanding data sovereignty and more competition.
- 7:20So Google stepped away, but the regulatory storm
- 7:23remains. Exactly. Google chooses to build better
- 7:26products. Microsoft still has to navigate a really
- 7:28challenging regulatory environment. Which leads
- 7:31us perfectly into our final story. which takes
- 7:34that whole regulatory environment and just pushes
- 7:36it onto the global stage. Yeah, this is where
- 7:38it gets really interesting. We're now seeing
- 7:40major tech regulation being treated as a high
- 7:43-stakes bargaining chip in geopolitical trade
- 7:45wars. We saw some pretty pointed remarks this
- 7:48week from French President Emmanuel Macron. He
- 7:50sharply criticized Brussels, suggesting the European
- 7:54Union is, in his words, afraid. of truly tackling
- 7:58U .S. Big Tech. And he's attributing the delays
- 8:01in enforcement probes to explicit U .S. pressure.
- 8:04He was not subtle about it. He framed this as
- 8:07a geopolitical battle, and I'm quoting here,
- 8:09arguing that U .S. platforms simply do not want
- 8:11us to bother them. I mean, that's about as direct
- 8:13as you can get, and we have concrete evidence
- 8:15of this U .S. playbook. We do. We saw U .S. Commerce
- 8:18Secretary Howard Letnick directly urging EU ministers
- 8:21to reconsider the massive new European rule books.
- 8:24We're talking about the Digital Services Act,
- 8:26the DSA, which governs content moderation, and
- 8:29the Digital Markets Act, or DMA, which is designed
- 8:31to stop large gatekeeper platforms from abusing
- 8:34their power. And the quid pro quo for reconsidering
- 8:38these crucial digital laws. Lower US tariffs
- 8:41on European steel and aluminum. That is pure
- 8:44high -level geopolitical leverage. It's essentially
- 8:47regulatory blackmail, as some EU officials have
- 8:49put it. Carissa Ribera, for example, publicly
- 8:52accused Washington of exactly that. And this
- 8:54pressure has created a lot of internal friction
- 8:56in the EU, where officials are trying to balance
- 8:59global trade relationships against the urgent
- 9:03need to enforce their own landmark digital legislation.
- 9:06So for you, the listener, whether you're running
- 9:09a business that depends on these platforms, Or
- 9:12you're a consumer who expects better privacy.
- 9:15The fundamental enforcement of these rules, the
- 9:17DSA and DMA, is being actively influenced by
- 9:21wider trade negotiations involving tariffs on
- 9:24physical goods. That's the third dot connected.
- 9:26Tech regulation is no longer just about software.
- 9:29It is squarely in the realm of global trade and
- 9:32diplomatic leverage. The ability of Europe to
- 9:34police big tech is now tied directly to its steel
- 9:37exports. It's wild when you think about it that
- 9:40way. Fascinating connections today. Before we
- 9:42do our final recap, let's thank our other fantastic
- 9:44sponsor. That's right. If you're a golfer or
- 9:47you're shopping for one this holiday season,
- 9:48you have to check out Skoni. That's spelled S
- 9:51-K -O -N -I and pronounced Skoni. Yes, they are

- 10:03at checkout, you can get 15 % off your entire
- 10:06purchase. You can check out their whole collection
- 10:08at scony .com. So let's quickly summarize the
- 10:12three key insights we extracted today. Okay.
- 10:14First, the Coinshares ETF withdrawal is not a
- 10:18market collapse. It's a necessary streamlining
- 10:20of the regulatory process due to new SEC standards.
- 10:24It's simplifying the road ahead for new crypto
- 10:26products. Second, the cloud war is shifting from
- 10:29courtrooms to innovation labs. Google is pivoting
- 10:32away from litigation to focus on building better
- 10:34AI services, but Microsoft remains under massive
- 10:37regulatory scrutiny in Europe over their bundling
- 10:39practices. that carries significant risk. And
- 10:42finally, President Macron's comments highlight
- 10:45that the U .S. is actively leveraging major trade
- 10:47deals like steel and aluminum tariffs to directly
- 10:51influence whether the EU enforces its key tech
- 10:54regulations like the DSA and DMA. Proving that
- 10:57the digital world is inextricably linked to global
- 11:00economic policy. It's a powerful look at how
- 11:02decisions made far away impact your daily use
- 11:05of technology. Indeed. We're here to help at
