I'm thinking today specifically of a passage of scripture in Acts chapter 6,

and it really is at the beginning of the book of Acts chapter 6. It is the place

at which we find the biblical principle of recognizing ordained deacons. Deacons

are the servants of the church, where the pastors are the sometimes the

under-shepherd, I guess you could say. They represent the church when the church

is not gathered, and so they are essentially the leader of the church, but

it's a servant leadership position. So too, the deacons are the servants of the

church, and so you could say that they are the leadership servant position in

a sense. And really these are the only two positions in the church that are

recognized in scripture. A lot of people may differ with me on that, but the

bottom line is these disciples who didn't think it was wise, they step away

from the ministering of the Word to serve in that capacity called deacons. The

deacons then became the servants of the church so that the church could serve

in the way that it should, and that the pastor and pastors could serve in the

way that they should. We are so grateful to have new deacons at New Heights
