- 2:31Speaker 1: show to talk about his fourth book, Game Changers. Please
- 2:34Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversations. Dave Asprey Sean, thank you. Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I gotta set you up, man, when your big time
- 2:43Speaker 1: like you, maybe I gotta set you up. I can't
- 2:44Speaker 1: just say please, welcome to the show, Dave. I can't
- 2:47Speaker 1: do that, brother, I can't do you know. I got
- 2:50Speaker 1: I gotta tell the world about you, man, because I
- 2:52Speaker 1: read your book, Game Changers, and I always knew about
- 2:55Speaker 1: your your brand, and but the book Game Changers, and
- 2:59Speaker 1: when I'm reading it, when they got to the point,
- 3:00Speaker 1: always tell people. Abo tell my my friends and my
- 3:04Speaker 1: my employees, all the time, I said, I want to
- 3:06Speaker 1: live like as old as the people in the Bible,
- 3:08Speaker 1: as I said I wanted. And then when I read
- 3:11Speaker 1: you said you want to live to a hundred years old,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I went, that's my that's my man. Because people, really,
- 3:19Speaker 1: they get to a certain age and they feel that.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I will tell people when they get to the fifties,
- 3:23Speaker 1: there's something happens to people because they see that they've
- 3:25Speaker 1: been told at sixty five that they should retire, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: they've been told at sixty five that they're gonna be
- 3:31Speaker 1: taken care of. So something mentally happens with with people.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They whole body structure change, their goals change. They also
- 3:39Speaker 1: believe that they can't accomplish things at that age or
- 3:44Speaker 1: why should they, And then they get frustrated when the
- 3:47Speaker 1: people who made these promises that they're gonna take care
- 3:50Speaker 1: of them don't come through. Your book enables me to
- 3:55Speaker 1: believe that my mindset that I have it's the right mindset.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Don't wait anybody, you can do it yourself. Is that
- 4:04Speaker 1: what I did? I take that correct from your reading?
- 4:06Speaker 1: From my reading. You know you're in charge of your
- 4:10Speaker 1: own biology, and yeah, you get it exactly right. I
- 4:13Speaker 1: just I just turned six and I celebrated my twenty
- 4:17Speaker 1: five percent birthday. I'm still a young man because I'm
- 4:22Speaker 1: barely a quarter done with my minimum goal. And I mean,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and I'm not That's not one of those though, Hey
- 4:31Speaker 1: look at me. I'm doing this to, you know, get attention.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I've run an anti as nonprofitly for twenty years, and
- 4:37Speaker 1: I've interviewed people on bulletproof Radio. Guy's ninety three has
- 4:42Speaker 1: a Nobel Prize for discovering europostosity. Guys ninety four who
- 4:45Speaker 1: discovered the field of transpersonal psychology. Guy Who's seventy three
- 4:49Speaker 1: one of twelve living grand masters of the energy medicine
- 4:52Speaker 1: tradition that protects the emperors of China. These are they
- 4:55Speaker 1: have something called wisdom, and I think we're missing on
- 4:58Speaker 1: wisdom right now because half a people over a certain
- 5:01Speaker 1: age are going to get all time years disease didn't
- 5:04Speaker 1: even remember their wisdom. If I think we have an
- 5:07Speaker 1: epidemic of a shortage of wisdom. And I've learned so
- 5:09Speaker 1: much for people three times my age, two times my age.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Who took this day, Abraham who just interviewed me for
- 5:18Speaker 1: the book, one of the top marketing consultants in the
- 5:20Speaker 1: last thirty years on direct direct mail, direct marketing. Dear
- 5:24Speaker 1: personal friend, I think Ethan his seventies or late sixties. Uh.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You know, these are the guys who tell me how
- 5:31Speaker 1: to do the stuff I don't know how to do
- 5:32Speaker 1: because they already did it ten more times than I did.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And I feel like I didn't have the wisdom to
- 5:37Speaker 1: listen to those people when I was in my twenties,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I was maybe a little too egotistical. And part of
- 5:42Speaker 1: the reason I wrote Game Changers, I wanted to hear
- 5:45Speaker 1: what made all of them? All these people did these
- 5:48Speaker 1: big things, what made them special? And asked them all
- 5:51Speaker 1: the same question. And I worked with the statistician to
- 5:54Speaker 1: analyze all the data and figure out I don't care
- 5:56Speaker 1: one successful person does and put people listening. You shouldn't either,
- 6:00Speaker 1: because you're probably not like that person. They might be
- 6:02Speaker 1: a different gender, different age, living different part of the country,
- 6:04Speaker 1: had they had different parents, they had different genetics. If
- 6:07Speaker 1: they're not you, so don't follow a guru. Find out
- 6:10Speaker 1: what a bunch of people all agree on. There's their priorities.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Set your priorities the same way, and choose the tools
- 6:15Speaker 1: that work for you. And this book is it's not
- 6:18Speaker 1: one of those books to hit. I did this podcast episode,
- 6:19Speaker 1: look what you could learn? And you put twenty of
- 6:21Speaker 1: them together, you got a book. This is a book
- 6:23Speaker 1: where we analyze four underd and fifty interviews, all of
- 6:26Speaker 1: them with exactly the same three questions at the end,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and we look for commonalities. So, if you're going to
- 6:32Speaker 1: spend one hour being a better an entrepreneur, a better father,
- 6:35Speaker 1: a better mother, a better whatever you decide you want
- 6:38Speaker 1: to be, you might as look at the highest return
- 6:41Speaker 1: on that hour's worth of time and energy. Uh and well,
- 6:45Speaker 1: how else could you do that? But learning from hundreds
- 6:47Speaker 1: of people who have done big things. That that was
- 6:49Speaker 1: my guilt. And here's the secret. I wanted this for myself,
- 6:52Speaker 1: between writing and your kind of bestseller every twelve eighteen months,
- 6:57Speaker 1: let the award winning podcast with a hundred million dots
- 6:59Speaker 1: and I'm see out of a pull through three sixty
- 7:02Speaker 1: sixty eight million dollars in venture capital, And I got
- 7:04Speaker 1: a couple of other startups in my back pocket too.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I don't have time. I'm not wasting. I have had
- 7:08Speaker 1: ten minutes to meditate. I want to meditate faster, But
- 7:11Speaker 1: you're o't care to do that you mentioned the fact
- 7:13Speaker 1: that you lost weight, and I lost sixteen pounds this year.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I'll brag about that. I made a conscious decision just
- 7:19Speaker 1: lose weight. You know I was. I said, I'm not
- 7:21Speaker 1: gonna play football. I'm not gonna run around here and
- 7:24Speaker 1: tackle anybody and make any extra money, not at my age.
- 7:27Speaker 1: While are you walking around with all his weight on?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Ra shot and has left. My body is almost a
- 7:32Speaker 1: year now coming up on the university. It stayed off.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So how was you able to make that transition with
- 7:38Speaker 1: the weight loss which inspired you to be who you
- 7:40Speaker 1: are today. I would like to believe that when I
- 7:42Speaker 1: say that and keep it off. You know, for me,
- 7:47Speaker 1: it came from desperation at six, I've got all the
- 7:51Speaker 1: money I'm gonna need to rust my life least I
- 7:53Speaker 1: think I do. I don't know I'm gonna lose it.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But about the current, I mean, my my brain wasn't working.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I had why this is my niece. Since I was fourteen.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I got blood tests done that the doctor like advanced
- 8:05Speaker 1: with blood tests, and they said, you're at high risk
- 8:08Speaker 1: of stroke and a heart attack, and you're pre diabetic,
- 8:12Speaker 1: and you've got cognitive dysfunction like I've got thirty and
- 8:15Speaker 1: I've got all the diseases that I expect my grandfather, right, right, right,
- 8:22Speaker 1: not okay, right, And I've been exercising an hour and
- 8:25Speaker 1: a half a day, six days a week, and I
- 8:28Speaker 1: went on a low fat, low calorie diet, and after
- 8:31Speaker 1: eighteen months of that, I just took off sun days
- 8:33Speaker 1: the rest of the time. Every day, no matter if
- 8:35Speaker 1: I was sick and how tired I was, I hit
- 8:36Speaker 1: the gym every day. The most important thing. I've away
- 8:39Speaker 1: three pounds and I'm sitting at Carl's Jr. My friends
- 8:42Speaker 1: are eating Western bacon cheeseburgers. I'm having the salave of
- 8:45Speaker 1: no chicken and no dressing. And I just realized, you
- 8:48Speaker 1: know what, I could bench press every one of my friends,
- 8:50Speaker 1: actually more than them, and I less than them, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: I'm twice as tall as them. And you know what,
- 8:55Speaker 1: it's not me, It's this advice is craft and I
- 8:58Speaker 1: had to go do it myself. And that's where the
- 9:00Speaker 1: bolder of diet came from. Hey have anti aging people,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but people actually know how it works, and they're all
- 9:05Speaker 1: pissed off. Next week, I'm giving a lecture that three
- 9:08Speaker 1: thousand doctors of the American Academy of Antigi Medicine. I'm
- 9:10Speaker 1: not a doctor, but they're all pissed off because they
- 9:13Speaker 1: know what's real and the traditional Western, big promised stuff
- 9:17Speaker 1: they don't know it. So there's this divide between what
- 9:20Speaker 1: we know and what people are told. And my missioneer
- 9:22Speaker 1: is I'm going to break that divide down, and even
- 9:25Speaker 1: those conversation is hoping to do that. If your thought
- 9:27Speaker 1: it's not that hard to lose weight, now, you don't
- 9:30Speaker 1: have to suffer, you don't have to be hungry all
- 9:31Speaker 1: the time. If you are a hungry at the times,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you're going to get sad again anyway. So you gotta
- 9:34Speaker 1: figure out to do it. It's to the point I
- 9:36Speaker 1: don't worry about that anymore. But what I do worry
- 9:40Speaker 1: about is when you have all this energy, what are
- 9:41Speaker 1: you gonna do with it? Because if you have a
- 9:43Speaker 1: bunch of energy and you put it into hating on
- 9:45Speaker 1: other people and you know, cut them off in traffic
- 9:48Speaker 1: and uh, you know, you don't do good stuff with it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: We've got a problem there, But we can fix it.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It's easy. And that's why I'm so feel ve about it.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Right at the inter of your interview, you always ask
- 9:58Speaker 1: this question, is what are your top three recommendations of
- 10:01Speaker 1: people who want to perform better at being human? Can
- 10:05Speaker 1: you can? You? Can? You can? I ask you that
- 10:08Speaker 1: question days absolutely, and I wrote I wrote the afterward
- 10:15Speaker 1: in Game Changers where I kind of put more more
- 10:17Speaker 1: context into this, but I'm gonna summarize that and until
- 10:23Speaker 1: I wrote this book already and asked the question in
- 10:25Speaker 1: a in a major way. And the first thing is
- 10:29Speaker 1: the power of gratitude. And every night when I put
- 10:32Speaker 1: my kids to bed, I say tell me three things
- 10:35Speaker 1: you're grateful for, uh, And I tell them stuff I'm
- 10:38Speaker 1: grateful for. And if you do that, it changes your
- 10:40Speaker 1: whole biology, like yours down your brain state changes. And
- 10:43Speaker 1: I measured that at the brain the neuroscientists student that
- 10:46Speaker 1: I started. If you can see what gratitude does, it's
- 10:48Speaker 1: a real thing. The number one gratitude. Second one is
- 10:54Speaker 1: understand that you have a traitor inside of you, These
- 10:59Speaker 1: little tiny bacteria that run the energy system in yourselves.
- 11:02Speaker 1: All they want to do is run away from hide
- 11:05Speaker 1: or kill scary things, eat everything, and have sex with
- 11:08Speaker 1: everything else. That's the bacteria to do. This day alive
- 11:10Speaker 1: and you're powered by bacteria so everything you've ever done
- 11:13Speaker 1: that you're ashamed of came from these ancient bacteria. Good
- 11:15Speaker 1: news is they're not you. Bad news is you're responsible
- 11:18Speaker 1: for what they make you do. So you've got to
- 11:19Speaker 1: get on top of it. If everyone understood that, you
- 11:21Speaker 1: could drop the guilt and shame right now, like, yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I'm wired that way. I gotta get on top of
- 11:26Speaker 1: this wiring instead of saying, oh, that was me, I'm
- 11:29Speaker 1: a bad person because my bacteria wanted to go on
- 11:32Speaker 1: that data I shouldn't go out on in such a etcetera.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And the final thing that's in my pieces of advice
- 11:41Speaker 1: people want to perform better at everything is understand your
- 11:44Speaker 1: body actually doesn't listen to you very well, except when
- 11:48Speaker 1: it comes to gratitude and love and things like that.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But what it does listen to it listens to the
- 11:53Speaker 1: environment around you. So what that means is that you
- 11:56Speaker 1: have more control over what your body does. And in
- 11:59Speaker 1: any time human history, I mean he could have Amazon.
- 12:02Speaker 1: You got a walmar Are you got anywhere you want?
- 12:04Speaker 1: You can pick up in r fols. You can get
- 12:06Speaker 1: quality light, you get clean water, you can get quality food,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you can change all the all the things that twenty
- 12:13Speaker 1: five or a hundred years ago. It doesn't really matter
- 12:15Speaker 1: who you were, you couldn't do it. So we have
- 12:17Speaker 1: all this tack. Now you can make the environments set
- 12:19Speaker 1: up to make you a super human. But unless you
- 12:21Speaker 1: realize it's the environment that listened to it's not you,
- 12:24Speaker 1: it's very hard to do that. The mess your day.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Are you doing any book signing tours or you have
- 12:29Speaker 1: a schedule for that's set up yet? Or what what's
- 12:31Speaker 1: happened with you? And where are you based? I am
- 12:34Speaker 1: based in Victoria, British Columbia, or headquarters in Seattle. And
- 12:39Speaker 1: in April five through seventh is the bio Hacking Conference,
- 12:42Speaker 1: sixth annual conference down in l A. I'll be signing
- 12:44Speaker 1: a ton of books there. And that's it. The Beverly
- 12:47Speaker 1: Hilting go to upgrade labs dot com to find a
- 12:50Speaker 1: pull in the commedy okay cool and to say those
- 12:52Speaker 1: dates again April fifth through seventh in l A. And
- 12:59Speaker 1: there's I got more thing for listeners to if you
- 13:01Speaker 1: go to ask free Game Changers dot com right now
- 13:04Speaker 1: a s p R E Y. I'm giving away a
- 13:07Speaker 1: hundred and seventy five thousand balls and prizes for people
- 13:10Speaker 1: who read the book, review the book and just try
- 13:13Speaker 1: it out. That the most I've ever done. And there's
- 13:16Speaker 1: people stem cell up, craise all kinds of cool stuff.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So I would say, check it out and read the book.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And if you read me the review like I'm love reading,
- 13:23Speaker 1: if you just let me know that the eight thousand
- 13:26Speaker 1: and so hours a whole year of time that went
- 13:28Speaker 1: into writing this book, that it was worth your time
- 13:30Speaker 1: to read it in four hours. If you let me
- 13:31Speaker 1: know that, I appreciate it. Well, my friend. Also, I
- 13:33Speaker 1: will be posted it on social media. So I tell
- 13:35Speaker 1: my crew to get in touch with Joe Crew and
- 13:37Speaker 1: we put it on my social media, which is the
- 13:39Speaker 1: bigger platform than my radio platform. Thank you. They appreciate you.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Keep changing lives and keep you up, keep being a
- 13:45Speaker 1: game changer from Marsha McDonald and money making conversations don't
- 13:49Speaker 1: touch that though, Hey Dave, how you doing a very
- 13:54Speaker 1: good couple? I didn't ramble too much. No no, no,
- 13:58Speaker 1: no no, Now they're serious about that coffee. Well, do
- 14:00Speaker 1: let you know that you know it was funny. I
- 14:02Speaker 1: would just like, you know, I'm the point in my life,
- 14:05Speaker 1: you know, I go I'm gonna stick to who I am.
- 14:07Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. So I went, maybe it's
- 14:10Speaker 1: time to like change up a little bit. But but
- 14:13Speaker 1: I treated it just like you know why not was lemonade,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you know, coke or something, and enjoyed it a lot.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And thank you very much for uh inviting that, uh,
- 14:22Speaker 1: that nutritional supping into my life because I will be
- 14:25Speaker 1: using it on the regularation. Okay, you got you got it, man,
- 14:28Speaker 1: And it's it's roughlier. I gotta tell you. Both coffee
- 14:31Speaker 1: and brain knockane oil in trials reduce all times. So
- 14:35Speaker 1: you drink one of those a day, you're riff for lifelong.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Stuff goes down. That's real science and the some reasons
- 14:40Speaker 1: I do it. So you got some upside there. I appreciate. Also,
- 14:44Speaker 1: my my staff is gonna rotoously reach out to you
- 14:47Speaker 1: your staff to give me some banners so I can
- 14:48Speaker 1: put them on social media. Alrighty, I appreciate your good time.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Keep winning, my man. Yeah, we sort of stopped paying
- 14:55Speaker 1: attention and wracked up a lot of debt. Yeah, it
- 14:58Speaker 1: was stressful. He blamed me for my at a card
- 15:00Speaker 1: debt and I blamed him for building that man cave.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It's awesome. Anyway, we stopped blaming each other, did our
- 15:05Speaker 1: homework and read that a smart way to consolidate debt
- 15:08Speaker 1: is to get a fixed rate loan. But getting a
- 15:11Speaker 1: loan was brutal and a time drain. So I was
- 15:14Speaker 1: in my man cave researching personal loans and I found
- 15:16Speaker 1: best Egg. They have an A plus rating with the
- 15:19Speaker 1: B B B and best Egg handles everything online start
- 15:22Speaker 1: to finish, and Consumer Affairs gave best Egg five stars
- 15:25Speaker 1: for their easy online loan app. And we could be
- 15:28Speaker 1: approved and funded and as little as one business day,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I applied online with no impact my credit score. She
- 15:34Speaker 1: always takes credit from my wings. But long story short,
- 15:36Speaker 1: she got an awesome loan, paid off our cards and
- 15:39Speaker 1: some bills while lowering our monthly payment. The best Egg
- 15:42Speaker 1: loan was like a total fresh start. Visit best egg

- 15:51Speaker 1: Subject to credit approval, actual rates, visa approval times will vary. Hi,

- 17:33Speaker 1: relationships to empower small businesses with information to succeed. You know,
- 17:38Speaker 1: when you have a good friend on before, your energy
- 17:39Speaker 1: gets a little bit higher than normal. Uh. This young
- 17:42Speaker 1: man UM been knowing him since ninety two. Houstonian hails
- 17:47Speaker 1: from Houston, Texas. But many years ago I told him
- 17:49Speaker 1: to leave Houston and following his entertainment dreams, go to
- 17:53Speaker 1: go West, young Man, Go West, young Man, and he
- 17:55Speaker 1: went to Los Angeles. He's written those shows like House
- 17:58Speaker 1: of Pain, Rickey Smiley Show, Old Ravens Home, and Meet
- 18:02Speaker 1: the Browns. He's currently a writing producer on the on
- 18:05Speaker 1: the New Timmori. I worked with Tamra own sister Sister
- 18:08Speaker 1: and Loretta Divine. I did a play with her and
- 18:11Speaker 1: Los Angeles, California. The shorts called Family Reunion is a
- 18:15Speaker 1: comedy series ordered by Netflix. Netflix is buying Everybody Well
- 18:19Speaker 1: Till and Loretta Divine. Uh set to a headline a
- 18:23Speaker 1: new multi generational, multi camera comedy series on Netflix. Please
- 18:27Speaker 1: welcome to my show, Monimating Conversations, Anthony Hill. What's going
- 18:33Speaker 1: on right man? You know of Amantha. It's so proud
- 18:39Speaker 1: of you. Man. I gotta get it out and you know,
- 18:41Speaker 1: hip hop comedy stop you just come by the club
- 18:44Speaker 1: and man people for you buddy people and uh, you know,
- 18:51Speaker 1: but he just had that genuine enthusiast, genuine enthusiasm of
- 18:55Speaker 1: ball being uh following his dream. So we're just going
- 18:58Speaker 1: back there because we got a lot talk about we
- 19:00Speaker 1: have two breaks and uh, I do want to take
- 19:02Speaker 1: time because a lot of people and you know, man,
- 19:05Speaker 1: I was, I was all about there's a lot of
- 19:06Speaker 1: talented people in Houston. Let me get that straight, right,
- 19:08Speaker 1: There a lot of talent people, but there's a lot
- 19:11Speaker 1: of fear in Houston about making that decision to move
- 19:16Speaker 1: or making the decision to change jobs. Is a lot
- 19:19Speaker 1: and I looked these many years. Can we look roughly
- 19:22Speaker 1: about twenty five years. It's some people that said they
- 19:26Speaker 1: didn't make that decision. They didn't make that decision to
- 19:29Speaker 1: either go to New York or go to Los Angeles.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But you did, young man. You listened to Rashan mcdonal.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Why did you listen to me? Boy? You know what,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I think I was too stupid to me text you know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: and to know any better. No, you weren't stupid, brother,
- 19:45Speaker 1: come and talk to us. But talk to us. You
- 19:47Speaker 1: know what it was, man, was I always wanted to
- 19:50Speaker 1: do something different, not always knowing what that was, but
- 19:55Speaker 1: it knew that I want to do something different. And
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know, when I was a kid, I always played
- 19:59Speaker 1: by mysel up in my room. I had these little
- 20:01Speaker 1: army man and my sister's dog. And what would happen
- 20:05Speaker 1: was that there was one one, one guy being picked
- 20:08Speaker 1: on by all the other guys, and then and then
- 20:11Speaker 1: and then he will fall off the bed which was
- 20:13Speaker 1: the mountain. Then and he'll come back big, and my
- 20:15Speaker 1: sister crazy dog and just beat him to beat him up.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You know. That's my story all the time, you know.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And what's funny is that I'm doing the same thing
- 20:25Speaker 1: now and just getting paid for it, right right right.
- 20:29Speaker 1: You know, I've always liked listening to to two stories.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You know. Um, what I foo know is that is
- 20:37Speaker 1: that now this young brother from South Park is a
- 20:40Speaker 1: very you know, is a man, a little fan. We
- 20:46Speaker 1: should listen to it. There you go. Now south Park
- 20:52Speaker 1: is like Fifth War, it's a very. It's a black community,
- 20:55Speaker 1: all right. So yeah, I'm in Fifth War, a little
- 20:57Speaker 1: bit older than him. I'm listening to bar Man A
- 20:59Speaker 1: little line he Issa part he listened to bad Man
- 21:02Speaker 1: a little Live whatever it was supposed to work. What's
- 21:05Speaker 1: was that happened at all? Man? So the only my
- 21:08Speaker 1: close friends to know that about me, you know. And
- 21:10Speaker 1: somebody asked me once why are you a man a
- 21:13Speaker 1: little fan? And so I to think about it, because
- 21:16Speaker 1: because I never really thought it me, I WoT about why,
- 21:18Speaker 1: and they realized that I'm a man a little fan
- 21:20Speaker 1: because his songs tell stories, right, you know, and they've
- 21:25Speaker 1: always liked stories. I've always liked beginning, middle end. You know,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I was a kid in school. Point George the essay
- 21:32Speaker 1: portion of the attest Henna saying, because I could take
- 21:36Speaker 1: that because I know how to do a sort of
- 21:38Speaker 1: topic sentence, prove it, and then end it. It's really interesting,
- 21:42Speaker 1: like hip hop has a culture, but the basic African
- 21:45Speaker 1: America doesn't have a culture. And right, okay, because because
- 21:49Speaker 1: they would defer to hip hop language, they go, we
- 21:52Speaker 1: were saying like that, we say it like that, but
- 21:55Speaker 1: if you just talk about you, George sitcom, they don't
- 21:59Speaker 1: feel that they're is any particular tone that that a
- 22:02Speaker 1: typical African American family will be or live a lifestyle.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And so it really was interesting because how that taking
- 22:10Speaker 1: that room happens like that because you absolutely are telling
- 22:12Speaker 1: the truth. Yeah, and so it is frustrating, and I
- 22:17Speaker 1: realized that I'm going to be frustrated until I have
- 22:21Speaker 1: my own mm hmm, you know, because it's easy to
- 22:25Speaker 1: fight from the top, you know. And so and so
- 22:30Speaker 1: were you involved the end of the casting of the series.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I was involved in in everybody in every bit and
- 22:36Speaker 1: maybe a bit of it. So so we're a bit
- 22:38Speaker 1: of it. It was it the first time. So when
- 22:41Speaker 1: would it premier? Um? Right now? The tennis date is
- 22:46Speaker 1: um June that they're talking about the June teenth, you know,
- 22:51Speaker 1: which will be great. That feels small family union. That's
- 22:53Speaker 1: a summer tone. That's that's hitting the right the right,
- 22:57Speaker 1: right approach to the whole process. Yeah, now June team. Now,
- 23:02Speaker 1: you know, a couple of years ago, you know, we
- 23:04Speaker 1: were writing, you know, we was talking about your writing
- 23:06Speaker 1: career and and I had some projects to be coming
- 23:09Speaker 1: up and use us at a cross road because there
- 23:11Speaker 1: are different levels of writing and in in Hollywood, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 1: these union writing and that's writing where you know you
- 23:19Speaker 1: got a job, but it doesn't feel like a job.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And so one is one of the things that that
- 23:23Speaker 1: really helped me out a lot, because I can finish
- 23:25Speaker 1: this one for you. I'd gone because I have been
- 23:29Speaker 1: doing shows like and this. I'm gonna preface this by
- 23:33Speaker 1: saying that this is not an on anyone. I appreciate
- 23:36Speaker 1: anyone's work, you know, but I'm doing work with buying
- 23:40Speaker 1: Byron Allen. And you know, so Tyler period isn't that
- 23:44Speaker 1: and so it mean, it was fine, but I learned
- 23:48Speaker 1: that we I want to tell different stories than you
- 23:51Speaker 1: know they do, you know. And I worked with Tyler
- 23:58Speaker 1: for three and a half years and it so you know,
- 24:00Speaker 1: in Atlanta, and when I came back here to work,
- 24:04Speaker 1: people would will say, I don't want to hire a
- 24:06Speaker 1: Tyler pair writer. And that sucked because I had been
- 24:11Speaker 1: doing some some some workwork up the hair, but it
- 24:15Speaker 1: it wasn't recognized here. So I work with Byron Allen
- 24:18Speaker 1: and it was kind of the same type thing because
- 24:20Speaker 1: it was a show that wasn't on, you know, it
- 24:22Speaker 1: wasn't a network show. The show that was on and everything,
- 24:26Speaker 1: and you know, again me the storytelling wasn't what I
- 24:31Speaker 1: wanted it to actually be. You know. So I go
- 24:33Speaker 1: to a t L because this dude is barbecuing, and
- 24:39Speaker 1: she was the back yard and she was back yard,
- 24:42Speaker 1: and I was frustrated, and so he could tell tell
- 24:45Speaker 1: tell us because I was doing things that didn't I
- 24:47Speaker 1: said that you don't want to do and I was
- 24:48Speaker 1: doing it for the money. I was doing it for
- 24:51Speaker 1: the money, you know, because I have kids and they
- 24:53Speaker 1: enjoyed eating every day. You know. So what you told
- 25:00Speaker 1: with the reason why I'm frustrated is because I'm better
- 25:04Speaker 1: than the shows I'm doing. And I was gonna always
- 25:08Speaker 1: be frustrated if I kept doing it, and I would
- 25:10Speaker 1: always stay in that in that lane if I didn't stop.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So so the next season, I told Byron Allen know
- 25:22Speaker 1: and when I see you Rochard, I was so scared.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I did that and for a while things didn't go right,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and I kised your name if I pick account and
- 25:38Speaker 1: with shrinking like you know, black girl hair in the pool,
- 25:42Speaker 1: it's just shrinking. Man. But what happened was I got Disney,
- 25:53Speaker 1: So things got a little bleak first, but I got Disney,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and then Disney. It spend it from Disney to to
- 26:00Speaker 1: to um to Netflix, because because I knew I couldn't
- 26:03Speaker 1: get there from where it was. But it was an
- 26:05Speaker 1: easier jump from Disney to next to to you know,
- 26:09Speaker 1: a Netflix show, you know, and and let me go
- 26:12Speaker 1: even back further because because it's happening with us a
- 26:16Speaker 1: couple of times when we when I first started working,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I had stage manager who said, who suggested that I
- 26:24Speaker 1: invite you to the play? I was doing a play
- 26:27Speaker 1: in Houston, and I'm thinking, all right, cool, And because
- 26:30Speaker 1: that you're a big child, you had to hit up
- 26:32Speaker 1: comedy stop you know what I'm saying, And you came
- 26:35Speaker 1: out and everything, and I'm behind the curtain watching you
- 26:39Speaker 1: and orders hoping you would laugh. And then when you did,
- 26:46Speaker 1: you know, it's it's because that validated me, who know
- 26:50Speaker 1: what I was doing something, because because it's hard to
- 26:54Speaker 1: make you you you laugh? Well, you know, you know
- 26:57Speaker 1: that that's the beauty of our relationship and the beauty
- 26:59Speaker 1: of having on his conversation. Uh, you know, you know,
- 27:02Speaker 1: I've been trying to get Anthony on this show for
- 27:04Speaker 1: a while because his story is just I wanted a
- 27:07Speaker 1: lot of people should hear, and he should tell it
- 27:09Speaker 1: a lot more. By the way. Uh. He's the co
- 27:12Speaker 1: executive producer of the new series of Family re Union
- 27:15Speaker 1: with Airs this summer on Netflix. Uh, my man, I
- 27:19Speaker 1: love you. You keep winning and you owe me a meal.
- 27:22Speaker 1: You owe me a big meal. Okay, perfect, all right. Yeah,
- 27:26Speaker 1: we sort of stopped paying attention and racked up a
- 27:28Speaker 1: lot of debt. Yeah, it was stressful. He blamed me
- 27:31Speaker 1: for my credit card debt and I blamed him for
- 27:33Speaker 1: building that man cave. It's awesome anyway, we stopped blaming
- 27:36Speaker 1: each other, did our homework and read that a smart
- 27:39Speaker 1: way to consolidate debt is to get a fixed rate loan.
- 27:42Speaker 1: But getting a loan was brutal and a time drain.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So I was in my man cave researching personal loans
- 27:48Speaker 1: and I found best Egg. They have an A plus
- 27:50Speaker 1: rating with the B B B and best Egg handles
- 27:53Speaker 1: everything online, start to finish, and Consumer Affairs gave best
- 27:56Speaker 1: Egg five stars for their easy online loan app. And
- 27:59Speaker 1: we could be approved and funded and as little as
- 28:01Speaker 1: one business day. I applied online with no impact to
- 28:04Speaker 1: my credit score. She always takes credit for my wings.
- 28:07Speaker 1: But long story short, she got an awesome loan, paid
- 28:10Speaker 1: off our cards and some bills while lowering our monthly payment.
- 28:14Speaker 1: The best Egg loan was like a total fresh start.

- 29:37Speaker 1: Saw Them All, which haired in the summer of He
- 29:40Speaker 1: and his family are currently in the third season of
- 29:43Speaker 1: their show, The Book of John Gray, which airs on
- 29:46Speaker 1: the Oprah Winfrey Network. We all knew that need Bork.
- 29:49Speaker 1: He was an Ebony Power one hundred honoree I want
- 29:51Speaker 1: to be one of those one day, and was inducted
- 29:53Speaker 1: into the inaugural class of Oprah Winfrey's Super Soul one hundred.
- 29:57Speaker 1: That's pretty powerful, that's pretty probful, that's pretty This young
- 30:01Speaker 1: man got it going on. He is on the show
- 30:03Speaker 1: today to talk about his latest book, When from Within. Again.
- 30:07Speaker 1: He's on the show today to talk about his latest book,
- 30:10Speaker 1: When from Within. He wants to help readers identify how
- 30:14Speaker 1: best to handle the most difficult, challenging, and in yet
- 30:18Speaker 1: necessary battles that we all face, our inner struggle to
- 30:21Speaker 1: overcome the worst versions of ourselves. Jacob spent much of
- 30:25Speaker 1: his life running and hiding from himself. At a certain point,
- 30:29Speaker 1: we like Jacob, cannot run from our true selves anymore.
- 30:33Speaker 1: We must stop and face ourselves if we are to
- 30:35Speaker 1: become great. His book When from Within Helps It helps
- 30:40Speaker 1: us now us conquer our inner darkness and overcome such
- 30:44Speaker 1: hindrance as fear I talked about that earlier, shame and guilt.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He praised. You will find this powerfully biblical self help.
- 30:52Speaker 1: God push you towards victory over your inner struggles. Please
- 30:56Speaker 1: welcome to money making conversation. Some behind. I'm stating a
- 30:59Speaker 1: long term r to him in the airport a couple
- 31:01Speaker 1: of a couple of months ago, Pastor John Gray the Third,
- 31:05Speaker 1: my friend, be with you today. Feeling good, feeling good? Man.
- 31:11Speaker 1: You know. Uh, actually the previous time I saw you
- 31:14Speaker 1: was in Houston on stage and and uh doing the
- 31:18Speaker 1: Super Bowl ceremony for BT. It was the NFL Acquire
- 31:22Speaker 1: celebration and Joelo Steve's church, and you was crushing it. Man.
- 31:26Speaker 1: He's funny, you know that. Man. I was trying. They
- 31:29Speaker 1: put me up there last minute. I was like, now
- 31:32Speaker 1: y'all got some other hosts. I won't have they checked.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I just happened to be there. Oh my good you were.
- 31:39Speaker 1: You were there. But there's just been a journey man. Uh,
- 31:41Speaker 1: you know, the little side know about me and Pastor
- 31:45Speaker 1: John graded Third. Uh we met, Uh just just I
- 31:49Speaker 1: guess it was just one of those moments in life
- 31:51Speaker 1: how you just meet people, and how my life has
- 31:53Speaker 1: always been able to introduce people to their their their
- 31:57Speaker 1: course of life, their dream or or something they're trying
- 31:59Speaker 1: to see. Uh. Steve Harvey and I we were at
- 32:02Speaker 1: a sold out show and uh at the New Jersey
- 32:05Speaker 1: Pack that's one of the best theaters in the country.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And this young man came up to me. Didn't know him,
- 32:12Speaker 1: didn't know him. And it was funny because Steve said,
- 32:14Speaker 1: who is that? I said, he said, he's funny and
- 32:18Speaker 1: he wants to go on stage. He said, what you're
- 32:20Speaker 1: gonna do? I say, he brother, everybody deserves a shot.
- 32:23Speaker 1: And it was funny because you know, it's how life is.
- 32:27Speaker 1: And he believe me. He was funny too. He was
- 32:30Speaker 1: very funny and just tell him to experience that. John Man. Uh,
- 32:34Speaker 1: that was rip Sack. I think it was a show
- 32:38Speaker 1: for a hair care company, absolutely right. And and Darren said,
- 32:43Speaker 1: John McGee, five minutes you know to to open and
- 32:48Speaker 1: I'm sitting here and I'm looking at you already a
- 32:50Speaker 1: legend Steve Robber's back there already a legend. And I'm
- 32:53Speaker 1: sitting here and I got a one bad room apartment
- 32:55Speaker 1: in South Jersey for a tourist in the back of
- 32:58Speaker 1: the NJ pack And it was like, you know, it
- 33:03Speaker 1: had to be two thousand two, maybe somewhere back then.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I got up there and I did my piece. I
- 33:10Speaker 1: came off stage. You should said a great job, great job,
- 33:14Speaker 1: and he said, and Steve wants you to introduce him.
- 33:17Speaker 1: And that was like the greatest honor to be able
- 33:20Speaker 1: to stand amongst giants. And at that time I was
- 33:24Speaker 1: a youth pastor that was doing like Christian comedy, family comedy,
- 33:28Speaker 1: and we know, uncle Steve, he'll put some words together
- 33:33Speaker 1: they show um. But the fact that I was able
- 33:36Speaker 1: to stand amongst the great uh and just to watch
- 33:40Speaker 1: meant the world. The way you carried yourself, the suit
- 33:42Speaker 1: you had on, the hat, the tie. I could go
- 33:45Speaker 1: on and on. I remember those details because for me,
- 33:48Speaker 1: and already I'm like getting emotional, But for me, when
- 33:51Speaker 1: you don't have a father, and don't have a father
- 33:53Speaker 1: figure and don't have many of your life, you look
- 33:56Speaker 1: to see what excellence looks like. And for my all,
- 34:00Speaker 1: I have is my heart. My heart is my commodity.
- 34:03Speaker 1: As long as I keep my heart pewer. I figured
- 34:05Speaker 1: guy's gonna take me wherever he wants me to go.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So on that day for you guys to accept me,
- 34:11Speaker 1: we're saying, y'all see me right, that you guys find
- 34:14Speaker 1: value in me. And that helped me. It propelled me,
- 34:19Speaker 1: and it gave me some confidence to keep going, push
- 34:21Speaker 1: on through. And so I just had to say, you
- 34:24Speaker 1: know how grateful I was for that experience. It was
- 34:27Speaker 1: an eye opener, uh, and it was it was wonderful. Man.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I was reading your book, Pastor, just tell you was
- 34:34Speaker 1: in some notes to me, brother, some me, I have this, well,
- 34:39Speaker 1: I have this, Uh, I have this uh in my
- 34:42Speaker 1: back of my I was having this a rock right
- 34:44Speaker 1: next to the lake. And you know when when everyone
- 34:48Speaker 1: times were always tough for me, I would not when
- 34:51Speaker 1: it when it was when you know in life, you
- 34:53Speaker 1: know this, Pastor John, is that sometimes only you can
- 34:56Speaker 1: make that decision. You can you can see counseling, you
- 34:59Speaker 1: can to talk to friends, but that ultimate decision has
- 35:02Speaker 1: to be made with you. And so when you're making
- 35:05Speaker 1: a decision, it's only one person you're making that decision
- 35:07Speaker 1: with that's God. A lot of people don't understand that.
- 35:10Speaker 1: And when I would go, when I go to that
- 35:11Speaker 1: rock and sit down, that's all I'm talking about. That's
- 35:14Speaker 1: what I'm looking at that water, I'm looking at God,
- 35:16Speaker 1: I'm looking at that grass, I'm looking at myself. I'm
- 35:18Speaker 1: looking at I'm looking at my reflection. And so when
- 35:20Speaker 1: you're talking about that weariness, man, that's what you're talking
- 35:23Speaker 1: That's a very powerful statement that you're talking about. That
- 35:27Speaker 1: they expound on that a little bit forward their pastor
- 35:30Speaker 1: well this this idea of when you talk about weary,
- 35:34Speaker 1: people need to understand there's a difference between being tired,
- 35:37Speaker 1: being sleepy being weary, because being tired means you need rest,
- 35:42Speaker 1: mean sleepy means you need sleeping. Weary need means you
- 35:45Speaker 1: need to have your soul replenish. Because when you're weary,
- 35:49Speaker 1: you've actually taken from the substance of who you are
- 35:52Speaker 1: and giving it to people and haven't received in return.
- 35:55Speaker 1: When you do that, those are upside down transactions. And
- 35:59Speaker 1: what happens is you will feed on things you talked
- 36:04Speaker 1: about natural food like donnuts and candy. You'll feed on
- 36:07Speaker 1: empty calories that actually satisfy you. That's how David ended
- 36:11Speaker 1: up with bad Sheepa. He was weary. Okay, that's how
- 36:15Speaker 1: Sampson ended up with Delilah. He was weary. Because when
- 36:18Speaker 1: you get so weary that you don't see right from all,
- 36:21Speaker 1: you start making bad decisions. And it's not because you
- 36:24Speaker 1: want to fail. It's actually because you want to heal
- 36:27Speaker 1: and don't know how to do it the right way. See,
- 36:29Speaker 1: I'm tired of people bashing people because they make bad decisions.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Nobody wakes up in the morning saying I can't wait
- 36:36Speaker 1: to fail my family. We are all human and we
- 36:39Speaker 1: have challenges, difficulties, and we make bad decisions, and many
- 36:44Speaker 1: of them are because we're weary and we're trying to
- 36:46Speaker 1: figure out how to get back to the place called balance,
- 36:50Speaker 1: and balance is and and balances and illusion Rassin. Let
- 36:53Speaker 1: me just say this. When people are like, how do
- 36:55Speaker 1: you find the balance between ministry and family, there is
- 36:58Speaker 1: no such thing. Balance means both things are equal. Ministry
- 37:02Speaker 1: can never weigh more than my wife and kids, and
- 37:06Speaker 1: it did. That's why my wife was like, I'm going
- 37:09Speaker 1: to my mama's house. Because you're married to the church
- 37:12Speaker 1: and you're dating your family. And so for me, I
- 37:16Speaker 1: needed to re calibrate and say this family that God
- 37:21Speaker 1: has blessed me with these two children, that these blessed
- 37:24Speaker 1: me with even though I feel inadequate as a husband
- 37:26Speaker 1: and as a father, because I never saw that. I
- 37:29Speaker 1: need to put my roots down and start building right here,
- 37:32Speaker 1: because if I make decisions when I'm weary, I'm gonna
- 37:34Speaker 1: lose it all. And nobody will know that what I
- 37:38Speaker 1: did wasn't because I was in lust or in addiction,
- 37:43Speaker 1: because I was weary. So I got some therapists and
- 37:47Speaker 1: I and I got a Bible, and I got some
- 37:49Speaker 1: prayer and I did all three of them. And I'm
- 37:52Speaker 1: not ashamed to say it. Come on, and when when
- 37:54Speaker 1: you talked about weariness with Samson, Samson totally strength was
- 37:58Speaker 1: his hair. God blessed hims. As long as you don't
- 38:01Speaker 1: put the razor to your hair, you would have strength.
- 38:04Speaker 1: He's weariness. He gave the lie of the truth. Now
- 38:08Speaker 1: on David, instead of going off the war. He up
- 38:10Speaker 1: there on top of his palace, looking around. He looked
- 38:13Speaker 1: over as he but she obathing. He telling him to
- 38:16Speaker 1: bring her to him, and they have they make love
- 38:19Speaker 1: or sex. You know what I'm saying. So that's the
- 38:21Speaker 1: weariness he's talking about, because you you make decision that
- 38:24Speaker 1: aren't right for yourself, but you do them anyway because
- 38:27Speaker 1: guess what you weary. Come on, man, you're about to
- 38:30Speaker 1: have me start preaching with you. Man, I'm about to
- 38:31Speaker 1: start preaching, man, come on now, come on now, the
- 38:35Speaker 1: beauty of that's what I said without reading this book. Man,
- 38:37Speaker 1: It's like, here's this is what I wrote this out
- 38:40Speaker 1: of the book. It says it's the stew. He said,
- 38:42Speaker 1: the stew, and then he's gonna explain to you what
- 38:44Speaker 1: the stew is. The stew is no joke. It tastes
- 38:47Speaker 1: good going down. It's a tasty death. It's a tasty end.
- 38:52Speaker 1: You dab the corners of your mouth because it satisfies
- 38:55Speaker 1: in that moment, in an instant though everything has changed,
- 38:59Speaker 1: it's all talk about that, Stu Pastor. I'm getting ready
- 39:04Speaker 1: to go read my book again. Um. There was a
- 39:09Speaker 1: moment in the lives of Jacob and Esaw. For those
- 39:12Speaker 1: who may not be familiar with the biblical narrative, Nacob
- 39:16Speaker 1: and Saw were twin brothers. He Saw came out first.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Jacob grabbed his heel as he was coming out of
- 39:23Speaker 1: the womb that the name Jacob means he'll grabb her
- 39:27Speaker 1: or replacement or supplanter. And it was the fulfillment of
- 39:30Speaker 1: a property that was given to the mother that said
- 39:32Speaker 1: two nations or in your womb, and the older shall
- 39:36Speaker 1: serve the younger. And so Jacob was was basically his
- 39:41Speaker 1: whole life trying to up end his brother or outdo
- 39:45Speaker 1: his brother. But he didn't have his brother's strength, and
- 39:48Speaker 1: he didn't have his father's favor. And so at one
- 39:51Speaker 1: point Esau, who was very impetuous, and he moved in
- 39:55Speaker 1: the moment, came back from hunting, and he was exhausted
- 39:58Speaker 1: and he was hungry, and he said to his brother,
- 40:02Speaker 1: fixed me some of that student. Let me get a
- 40:04Speaker 1: bowl of that stew you made. And Jacob said, I'll
- 40:07Speaker 1: give you some stew if you sell me your birthright. Now,
- 40:10Speaker 1: in ancient Hebrew times, selling your birthright was a kind
- 40:13Speaker 1: of dishonoring your parents, dishonoring God. It's dishonoring your identity.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Your birthright means you got a double portion of a blessing.
- 40:21Speaker 1: You've got favor for the rest of your life and
- 40:24Speaker 1: your kids. And so in a moment of temporary hunger.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Esau made an eternal decision, and so the stew represents
- 40:33Speaker 1: anything that wants you to eat it right now without
- 40:36Speaker 1: understanding that it's gonna cost you for the rest of
- 40:39Speaker 1: your life. So stu for Esau. Actually it tasted good
- 40:44Speaker 1: while he ate it, but nothing was ever the same.
- 40:47Speaker 1: He lost his birthright, he lost his identity, and he
- 40:50Speaker 1: lost his favor. For those who read the Bible, God
- 40:53Speaker 1: introduces himself to Moses as the god of Abraham, Isaac
- 40:57Speaker 1: and Jacob. It should have been Abraham, Isaac and Saw,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but Saul chose to sell his birthright, and therefore he
- 41:05Speaker 1: gave up his identity and then got made and the
- 41:11Speaker 1: Jacob had to go run, had to run, fell on
- 41:14Speaker 1: that rock and went to sleep. That came an altar.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I pad this for a book. I've had this for
- 41:19Speaker 1: read because it's like reading a Bible. I love it
- 41:23Speaker 1: because like a refresher course, you know, because of the
- 41:25Speaker 1: fact that when you're going through a well written book
- 41:27Speaker 1: allows you to experience something, also allows you to realize
- 41:31Speaker 1: that this is something that's important in your life. And
- 41:33Speaker 1: then when you read this book, you realize how important
- 41:35Speaker 1: the Bible lives in your life, Uh, Pastor John grad three,
- 41:38Speaker 1: I really want to appreciate you. I really want to
- 41:40Speaker 1: appreciate you coming on the show Man and uh allowing
- 41:42Speaker 1: me to read your book and promote your book and
- 41:45Speaker 1: sell the values of your book, because it's important when
- 41:48Speaker 1: you write these books. And I know he does a
- 41:50Speaker 1: lot of these shows equal important. He knows that I've
- 41:53Speaker 1: read his book and I appreciate the value what he
- 41:54Speaker 1: brought to the table. Amen, thank you for shining, for
- 41:58Speaker 1: allowing me to be on your platform. Thank you for
- 42:00Speaker 1: being my friend through these years, and thank you for
- 42:02Speaker 1: opening that door and and and and speaking life to
- 42:06Speaker 1: me all those years ago. Just to pray that this
- 42:09Speaker 1: book is a blessing to you and to all of
- 42:12Speaker 1: your listeners and supporters. I really do want them to
- 42:14Speaker 1: get it. It is a life changing read. I believe
- 42:17Speaker 1: that I appreciate your brother, passor John Gray. The Yeah,
- 42:21Speaker 1: we sort of stopped paying attention and racked up a
- 42:23Speaker 1: lot of debt. Yeah, it was stressful. He blamed me
- 42:26Speaker 1: for my credit card debt and I blamed him for
- 42:28Speaker 1: building that man cave. It's awesome. Anyway, we stopped blaming
- 42:31Speaker 1: each other, did our homework and read that a smart
- 42:34Speaker 1: way to consolidate debt is to get a fixed rate loan.
- 42:37Speaker 1: But getting a loan was brutal and a time drain.
- 42:40Speaker 1: So I was in my man cave researching personal loans
- 42:43Speaker 1: and I found best Egg. They have an A plus
- 42:45Speaker 1: rating with the B B B and best Egg handles
- 42:48Speaker 1: everything online start to finish, and Consumer Affairs gave best

- 42:54Speaker 1: we could be approved and funded and as little as
- 42:56Speaker 1: one business day. I applied online with no impact. My
- 43:00Speaker 1: at a score. She always takes credit from my wins.
- 43:02Speaker 1: But long story short, she got an awesome loan, paid
- 43:05Speaker 1: off our cards and some bills while lowering our monthly payment.

- 45:11Speaker 1: and director from I've Been to This City, Clinton South,
- 45:14Speaker 1: Caroline from comedy shows, the recent work movie TV shows, uh,
- 45:19Speaker 1: the Modern Reboot. He's on the show to talk about
- 45:21Speaker 1: all of these things, but more importantly the new anti
- 45:24Speaker 1: bully movie he directed entitled Misguided Behavior. Please work with
- 45:28Speaker 1: the money making conversation Call Anthony Paine, set up, shut up,
- 45:36Speaker 1: shut up, shut up, shut up. Hey call man. Uh,
- 45:41Speaker 1: first of all, you know, congratulations on everything that you accomplished.
- 45:45Speaker 1: But the reason I want to congratulation and say great
- 45:48Speaker 1: things about you because you know, you do the big projects.
- 45:51Speaker 1: But I always know that that it's important that you
- 45:54Speaker 1: do independent projects. Why is that so important to you?
- 45:58Speaker 1: Because man, it's it's a well, first of all, just
- 46:01Speaker 1: how creative you're able to be, you know, um, within
- 46:05Speaker 1: within lit those uh so called boundaries, um, because there
- 46:10Speaker 1: really aren't any, right and and um it's also it's
- 46:16Speaker 1: about the work. You know, you know when when it's
- 46:19Speaker 1: an independent project so to the time, there's not a
- 46:21Speaker 1: lot of money involved, and uh, you know, I love
- 46:25Speaker 1: what I do. So it's about the art. It's about
- 46:27Speaker 1: the art of it and the story that you're trying
- 46:29Speaker 1: to tell, you know, um, or just being a part
- 46:32Speaker 1: of something that that is bigger than just what's on
- 46:35Speaker 1: the paper, you know. It's it's really interesting when I
- 46:38Speaker 1: when I look at your career and I look at
- 46:40Speaker 1: the characters you play, you know how how difficult is
- 46:43Speaker 1: to go from drama the comedy or comedy the drama?
- 46:47Speaker 1: Is that just is that something natural you are, This
- 46:50Speaker 1: something that you've you've you've you wanted to do in
- 46:54Speaker 1: your resumes. It's it's it's supernatural. It's supernatural because it's
- 46:58Speaker 1: like I think about, man, every day is dr but
- 47:00Speaker 1: you gotta laugh at you gotta laugh at it, man,
- 47:04Speaker 1: you know, and I think, uh, you know, um to
- 47:07Speaker 1: answer your question a little bit better, man, I started
- 47:09Speaker 1: off doing drama first, you know, I want to uh
- 47:12Speaker 1: High School of Performing Arts in New York which is
- 47:15Speaker 1: now called LaGuardia. You know, I really got accepted to Juilliard,
- 47:19Speaker 1: that chose to go to Howard University. Everything started off
- 47:23Speaker 1: with more drama anyway. Comedy is just something that I
- 47:27Speaker 1: just happened to be good at, I guess and and
- 47:30Speaker 1: and made a living doing that as well. So it's
- 47:33Speaker 1: it's it's not it's not hard to go back and
- 47:35Speaker 1: forth at all, you know, because again, we deal with
- 47:38Speaker 1: enough drama to be able to laugh about it. You know,
- 47:41Speaker 1: I love talking to talent people. They make it seem like,
- 47:43Speaker 1: you know, no big deal, you know, back and for
- 47:45Speaker 1: off yas Listen, listen, you know I'm talking about you
- 47:49Speaker 1: know what I'm talking You know this show comedy. Comedy
- 47:52Speaker 1: is definitely harder. You know, it's definitely because because because
- 47:57Speaker 1: it's about timing, it's right, right, mean, and it's one
- 48:01Speaker 1: of those things where you can't teach that, you know
- 48:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I mean you can, you can, but
- 48:06Speaker 1: it's it's it's if it's natural and and you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: it's just this is one of those things that makes
- 48:16Speaker 1: it happy. Yeah. Yeah. So now let's talk about the
- 48:19Speaker 1: movie Misguided Behavior. Uh. First of all, he's very drama
- 48:24Speaker 1: dramatic in this movie, okay um um. But also you
- 48:28Speaker 1: you went behind the lens, you know how difficulty. Let's
- 48:32Speaker 1: let's talk about the movie just how everybody move. This
- 48:33Speaker 1: is a movie that I'm I'm blessed to be an
- 48:36Speaker 1: executive producer in the movie. It's an anti bullet movie.
- 48:38Speaker 1: It's about the typical situation that he's a young man
- 48:41Speaker 1: who's being bullied and he has to appen. He lives
- 48:44Speaker 1: in a lifestyle that you say, why is he underrash?
- 48:46Speaker 1: Why is he not? In fact, where was his parents?
- 48:49Speaker 1: Where his parents were always always there for this young man.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Father was in a little bit of denial about what
- 48:55Speaker 1: was going on. Mother was overly concerned. So you had
- 48:58Speaker 1: a confidict right there. You have to over the cons
- 49:00Speaker 1: her mom and dad said be a man, be a man,
- 49:03Speaker 1: be a man. But neither one of the parents was
- 49:06Speaker 1: listening to the young man's emotional pain. And that's what
- 49:10Speaker 1: this movie is about. Uh. I throw it back to you.
- 49:12Speaker 1: I wanted to just set it up for your call
- 49:14Speaker 1: because it's really a movie that more and more people
- 49:17Speaker 1: should be aware of and parents should exposed and teachers
- 49:21Speaker 1: should expose these young adults to this movie, right right.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I mean that was the thing that drew me to it,
- 49:27Speaker 1: the story of it all. As a matter of fact,
- 49:31Speaker 1: once I started doing the film, you know, I had
- 49:35Speaker 1: hit home even more so because my my son, my
- 49:39Speaker 1: youngest son, was actually going through that and I didn't
- 49:41Speaker 1: even know it. You know, he was actually, you know
- 49:45Speaker 1: the same thing was happening right at home and I
- 49:47Speaker 1: did not even know it. And you know, we have
- 49:51Speaker 1: to stop. We have to first of all. First of all,
- 49:53Speaker 1: everything starts in the home. Everything starts at home, you know.
- 49:56Speaker 1: And yes, we have to hold ourselves as well as
- 49:58Speaker 1: the teachers who we leave our children with for the
- 50:01Speaker 1: majority of the day the same thing, you know, you know,
- 50:04Speaker 1: and so we have to have these dialogues. I have
- 50:06Speaker 1: to have these conversations. Then we have to be able
- 50:08Speaker 1: to recognize things that that are unsaid. Man. I appreciate
- 50:13Speaker 1: you getting on the call and go do what you
- 50:15Speaker 1: gotta do. Okay, yes, sir, yes, sir, I mean Chicago
- 50:18Speaker 1: shooting this Christmas film right now. But you know, we
- 50:21Speaker 1: could be putting the gang back together. So we're about
- 50:23Speaker 1: to bring um about. You know, we're about to bring
- 50:25Speaker 1: that funny man. But everybody's been asking about this reboot.
- 50:29Speaker 1: So well, that's another interview that's you know, I know
- 50:32Speaker 1: about that. That's another interview that I'm gonna bring a
- 50:34Speaker 1: couple of all on my show, sidemortainous you talk about that,
- 50:37Speaker 1: so now now that's what I'm bringing you back for
- 50:39Speaker 1: that one. On that one call. Okay, all right, stay
- 50:41Speaker 1: strong man, and stay warm in Chicago. Oh yeah, for shure,
- 50:45Speaker 1: it's cold out here. I know, right, my next guest,
- 50:48Speaker 1: he's here live in studio. I tell you. Last time
- 50:51Speaker 1: he was a studio with me was in uh Los
- 50:54Speaker 1: Angeles Steve Harvey Morning Show. You know, he's just gotta
- 50:57Speaker 1: stay busy anyway. He's appeared in more one hundred movies
- 51:00Speaker 1: beginning the nineteen eighties, and critics including Minutes to Society,
- 51:04Speaker 1: Did Presidents, Why do Food? Fall of Love, Rush Hour,
- 51:07Speaker 1: Next Friday? Whoa? And I've been loving him recently because
- 51:11Speaker 1: he he hadn't died maybe three times. And one of
- 51:14Speaker 1: my favorite series on c W called Black Lightning. Please
- 51:17Speaker 1: work with the show. Clifton Pole, good to be here.
- 51:20Speaker 1: How you doing they Clifton, how you're doing? Man? I'm good.
- 51:24Speaker 1: First of all, I'm happy you came by. We're talking
- 51:26Speaker 1: about the movie I just hung up with with our
- 51:29Speaker 1: call Call Paying and regards to the misguy, that behavior,
- 51:32Speaker 1: and you play a dominant role in there mini roles.
- 51:36Speaker 1: First of all, let's talk about your career a little bit. Man.
- 51:38Speaker 1: You're busy, bro, You're a working actor. You know, that's
- 51:40Speaker 1: what people strive for in Hollywood, a working actor. Yeah,
- 51:43Speaker 1: I want to be a football player. So I'm you know,
- 51:46Speaker 1: I'm still kind of like blessed that I've had such
- 51:49Speaker 1: a long career. I really, I really just really want
- 51:52Speaker 1: to be a football player. And you know, my nephew
- 51:54Speaker 1: is the sportscaster James Brown. You know, jb J. Was
- 51:57Speaker 1: a basketball star in DC. Absolutely, so, Um, I ended
- 52:01Speaker 1: up going to the Matha trying to play basketball. But
- 52:03Speaker 1: I and I played a little bit of football. And
- 52:05Speaker 1: I grew up in the hood. You know, it was
- 52:07Speaker 1: before you went to training and all that stuff. Um,
- 52:10Speaker 1: so I didn't get to you know, get the kind
- 52:12Speaker 1: of support you know that was really fast and I
- 52:14Speaker 1: was good. And so after football, I really had no
- 52:17Speaker 1: desire to be anything other. I was gonna be a
- 52:19Speaker 1: bus driver. I come out of the hood, and I
- 52:21Speaker 1: you know, I didn't well I couldn't. I didn't play football,
- 52:24Speaker 1: So I didn't know what I was gonna do. So
- 52:27Speaker 1: I was gonna be a bus driver because somebody told
- 52:29Speaker 1: me bus drivers made six dollars and fifty cents, and
- 52:34Speaker 1: so you know, um, then I you know, God had
- 52:37Speaker 1: another plan, and so you know, once I got into it,
- 52:40Speaker 1: I was. I tell all the students that you know,
- 52:42Speaker 1: I was the worst actor in my program, and I
- 52:44Speaker 1: had to work harder than anybody else. And um, I
- 52:47Speaker 1: had a little bit of tragedy. My dad had a
- 52:49Speaker 1: nervous breakdown, and they were gonna I had to drop
- 52:51Speaker 1: out of the program. And they decided, you know, even
- 52:54Speaker 1: though I was a little bit of a knucklehead when
- 52:56Speaker 1: I got there, because I wouldn't wear my lead tards
- 52:58Speaker 1: and tight. Debbie Allen was my dancy and uh and
- 53:02Speaker 1: uh so you know, one of the teachers, God rest
- 53:05Speaker 1: his soul, Charles Brown, who's a fabulous actor, came to me.
- 53:08Speaker 1: He said, man, you gotta put your leotis and tightson,
- 53:10Speaker 1: and you're scaring everybody, you know, a little rough around here,
- 53:13Speaker 1: a little edgy. And so finally I put my tights on,
- 53:16Speaker 1: and then I stayed in the program, and then you know,
- 53:18Speaker 1: I went to Emerson and then I got to New York.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I think in uh seventy nine, and Sam and Denzel
- 53:23Speaker 1: and all those guys were there, and I just knew
- 53:25Speaker 1: that that if I kept myself together, uh And I
- 53:28Speaker 1: don't think any of us really thought about Hollywood. We
- 53:30Speaker 1: just wouldn't want to be a working actor. And then
- 53:32Speaker 1: I got to L A and eighty nine and and
- 53:34Speaker 1: you know, for those first five or six years, I
- 53:36Speaker 1: was unemployed and you know, doing all kind of clerical
- 53:38Speaker 1: work and counseling and stuff. And then you know, when
- 53:42Speaker 1: I went to auditions, I would just go in so prepared.
- 53:45Speaker 1: So when I went in and did Rock was the
- 53:47Speaker 1: first show that kind of like introduced me to the public.
- 53:50Speaker 1: I went in it was for a cracked out crack dealer.
- 53:52Speaker 1: And I had met Charles Dutton at a beach party
- 53:55Speaker 1: and I knew a friend of his, my buddy Walter Ben.
- 53:57Speaker 1: I said, man, I'm I'm a friend of Mr Bennis.
- 53:59Speaker 1: He's all right, man. So two weeks later, I'm auditioning
- 54:02Speaker 1: and he comes down the hall and every everybody else
- 54:03Speaker 1: got on T shirts and jeans. I look like a crackhead,
- 54:07Speaker 1: dirty clothes, dirty teeth, hair with dirt in my hair.
- 54:10Speaker 1: So Charlie said, I got in the room and he said,
- 54:12Speaker 1: you know, they really got a real damn crackhead of it.
- 54:15Speaker 1: And uh so, once I booked that, I just kept
- 54:17Speaker 1: on booking him. The rest is his sheep, you know.
- 54:21Speaker 1: But one thing I want to say to the young
- 54:22Speaker 1: people I did. It's preparation meeting opportunity, that's all it is.
- 54:27Speaker 1: They got a real cracking because I would go and
- 54:31Speaker 1: I did a tour duty with Miguel New Year's and
- 54:33Speaker 1: I came in full army dress and the man said,
- 54:36Speaker 1: where are you from. I said, I'm just I'm from
- 54:39Speaker 1: New York. I'm just trying to get a job. And
- 54:41Speaker 1: then I did my monologue from the hallway. By the
- 54:43Speaker 1: time I finished, they said, you know what, You're gonna
- 54:45Speaker 1: be the guy just wow, you know. So it's just
- 54:48Speaker 1: it's just about training and preparation and also willing to
- 54:51Speaker 1: go there and willing willing to go there, and and
- 54:53Speaker 1: but then you know, I got a note from one
- 54:56Speaker 1: casting director and said tell him not to wear the
- 54:58Speaker 1: whole army suit next time. So I was a different audition.
- 55:01Speaker 1: So sometimes they don't like you to go all the
- 55:03Speaker 1: way go there. But it worked in my behalf, and
- 55:05Speaker 1: I'm just blessed to be a Well it's been working
- 55:07Speaker 1: because you've been busy, and you've been being consistently busy,
- 55:11Speaker 1: and I know that. I was just telling, you know,
- 55:13Speaker 1: I've been a casting writer and all that, so I
- 55:15Speaker 1: know how the wood is especially for African American men.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I want to bring you back, you know, because you know,
- 55:20Speaker 1: just call man. You ain't gotta come and studio talk loan.
- 55:23Speaker 1: It's all good. Yeah, we sort of stopped paying attention
- 55:27Speaker 1: and racked up a lot of debt. Yeah, it was stressful.
- 55:30Speaker 1: He blamed me for my credit card debt and I
- 55:32Speaker 1: blamed him for building that man cave. It's awesome. Anyway,
- 55:35Speaker 1: we stopped blaming each other. Dinner homework and read that
- 55:38Speaker 1: a smart way to consolidate debt is to get a
- 55:40Speaker 1: fixed rate loan. But getting a loan was brutal and
- 55:44Speaker 1: a time drain. So I was in my man cave
