- 0:45Speaker 1: experience a lot of different situations that allows you either
- 0:48Speaker 1: to compromise what you want to do or confront the
- 0:52Speaker 1: issues at hand. I'm a confronter. Something bothers me. I
- 0:55Speaker 1: will definitely uh make note of it to the individual
- 0:59Speaker 1: or the situation that's creating the distraction in my life.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's what animating conversation is all about information and how
- 1:05Speaker 1: to how to react to the information financially, socially, educationally,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and more importantly, if you're trying to change your life
- 1:12Speaker 1: through your dreams, through gold setting. One of one of
- 1:15Speaker 1: the key roles in my interview that I'm about to
- 1:17Speaker 1: go into is that the family experience. One of the
- 1:21Speaker 1: key roles that we live in our lives as entrepreneurs
- 1:23Speaker 1: or small business owners is the amount of time that
- 1:26Speaker 1: you place with your family. Who are what is first
- 1:29Speaker 1: in your life? Is that your family? Where is your faith?
- 1:33Speaker 1: How about work? Your business? What is first? Where are
- 1:37Speaker 1: your spiritual beliefs aligned? In this emotional countdown, that's what
- 1:42Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about today's small business owners, people, gold setters, dreamers.
- 1:47Speaker 1: We ever talk, We ever talked a lot of We're
- 1:48Speaker 1: gonna talk about a lot of things with my next
- 1:50Speaker 1: two guests. One is the CEO and founder. Jamestown Music
- 1:54Speaker 1: is a Grammy nominated Billboard Music Art Award artists two
- 1:58Speaker 1: time Stellar Award artists J Harrison and Youthful Praise going
- 2:02Speaker 1: to their first ever number one Billboard Top Gospel Airplay
- 2:06Speaker 1: chart hit with their single You deserve it. In He's
- 2:10Speaker 1: John on the show today with his wife to discuss
- 2:12Speaker 1: their book A Miracle Marriage. I Forgive You, I trust you,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I Believe You, Volume one, they state that marriage is sacred,
- 2:22Speaker 1: marriage is powerful. For marriage has also been under attack
- 2:26Speaker 1: for quite some time. So on Money Making Conversations today,
- 2:30Speaker 1: we would discuss these things I mentioned in many upmore things.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Please working the Money Making Conversations JJ and Trina Hashton,
- 2:40Speaker 1: How are you pretty good? My friend? Pretty good? Welcome
- 2:43Speaker 1: back to the show. Thank you for having me. I'm
- 2:46Speaker 1: always whether you are well, trainer, you're there, Yes, I'm here.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Thank you for having your Absolutely as you saw, I
- 2:54Speaker 1: made some comments about myself and uh, the family and
- 2:58Speaker 1: uh and a lot of people when you're I'm talking
- 3:01Speaker 1: to two entrepreneurs there, small business owners. People are living
- 3:04Speaker 1: their dreams and their dreams are being put in place
- 3:06Speaker 1: through their goal setting into their consistency. Where is put
- 3:10Speaker 1: in perspective before we actually get into into the book,
- 3:14Speaker 1: the role of the family and uh, and it's in
- 3:17Speaker 1: your role of being successful as entrepreneurs. We we we
- 3:23Speaker 1: honestly believe that your family comes first. You believe families
- 3:27Speaker 1: is your first ministry. And now often say that God
- 3:30Speaker 1: does things in order. He's not gonna bless you with
- 3:34Speaker 1: this you know family, his wife, these children and then
- 3:37Speaker 1: expect you to put them to the side so that
- 3:40Speaker 1: you can build a career um outside of the home.
- 3:44Speaker 1: But we believe that God there's things in order, so
- 3:47Speaker 1: that if you build your home and you do it
- 3:49Speaker 1: in the correct way, honoring your wife and teaching your
- 3:52Speaker 1: children the principles of God, that he will set things
- 3:55Speaker 1: in line for you when it comes to your career
- 3:59Speaker 1: and the things that the people that you need to meet,
- 4:01Speaker 1: the people that you need to connect with, All of
- 4:03Speaker 1: that for us come together when you put your marriage
- 4:08Speaker 1: and your family first, because God is we believe God
- 4:12Speaker 1: is a god of order. So in doing so, UM.
- 4:16Speaker 1: If you if you've read our book, and I believe
- 4:18Speaker 1: you have, and maybe someone else out there has read it. Um.
- 4:22Speaker 1: When things were not in order in our household, Uh,
- 4:27Speaker 1: things were not in order for nother one of our careers.
- 4:32Speaker 1: We didn't know what we wanted to do, and even
- 4:34Speaker 1: the things that we did desire to do just didn't
- 4:37Speaker 1: seem to come together the way we needed them to
- 4:39Speaker 1: come together. Um. But it wasn't until we decided that
- 4:44Speaker 1: we were going to put our family first. UM. J
- 4:47Speaker 1: J had made a decision that he was going to
- 4:50Speaker 1: UM get his family back together at whatever cost that meant,
- 4:54Speaker 1: whether it meant UM having to start all over career wise,
- 4:58Speaker 1: or whatever it meant. He was determined to put his
- 5:01Speaker 1: family back together. And once he did that, believe it
- 5:04Speaker 1: or not, UM, what he started hearing from God started changing.
- 5:09Speaker 1: The music that he started hearing in his conversation and
- 5:12Speaker 1: his relationship with God started to change. And as a
- 5:16Speaker 1: result of that, UM, you see the j J that
- 5:19Speaker 1: you have today. That is the Grammy nominated and the
- 5:22Speaker 1: stellars in UM, and that's traveling all over the country.
- 5:26Speaker 1: That did not happen until we got our family together. JJ,
- 5:31Speaker 1: your turn me. I mean, my life always said it
- 5:36Speaker 1: so perfectly. UM. You know we we initially and this
- 5:41Speaker 1: is probably UM you can attest to this as well, Sean. UM,
- 5:45Speaker 1: we we got married before things really happened for us,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and before we started we weren't even think about studying
- 5:52Speaker 1: businesses and all that. We just got married and we
- 5:55Speaker 1: were still making music and everything while we were while
- 5:58Speaker 1: we were married, and like my wife said, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: we've gotten some moderate success, but things didn't change for
- 6:06Speaker 1: us until our our family was in order, our home
- 6:11Speaker 1: was in order, and then we were actually clear in
- 6:15Speaker 1: our minds, we were clear in our horrors. There was nothing,
- 6:17Speaker 1: there was no hinder us between us and God, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: he was able to give us different visions, different dreams,
- 6:24Speaker 1: different ideas that have exploded on us and and really
- 6:28Speaker 1: put put us another place. So um, we always say
- 6:32Speaker 1: family first, home first. God is not going to trust
- 6:35Speaker 1: you to be a blessed to the world if he
- 6:38Speaker 1: can't even trust you with your house. Absolutely, it's really
- 6:41Speaker 1: when I was reading the book, it was you know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: the book is about Traina's truth and JJ's journey. It's
- 6:47Speaker 1: it's it's sectioned out throughout the book like that. And
- 6:49Speaker 1: one of the things that we're gonna go through different
- 6:51Speaker 1: sections of the book. And I'm not gonna first of all,
- 6:53Speaker 1: as a motivating book. Let me just tell it's an
- 6:55Speaker 1: uplifting book. This is not a sad but this is
- 6:57Speaker 1: not this is not a testimony about what we did.
- 7:00Speaker 1: It's about about information about what you can do right
- 7:03Speaker 1: and using their life and as an example, which is
- 7:05Speaker 1: very powerful because a lot of people don't want to
- 7:07Speaker 1: reveal any um missteps in their life because they're there there.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That's the shallow life that we live. You know. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: want to be perfect. I want to live in life
- 7:17Speaker 1: that doesn't have any negative moments. But that's not truth.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Those are not truths. And that's this book is about truths.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And what what what continually came out in each chapter
- 7:27Speaker 1: I read was they set examples up. They go into
- 7:30Speaker 1: the faith, to go into the Bible and show examples
- 7:32Speaker 1: why this happened, with why Jesus turned water into wine,
- 7:36Speaker 1: which would at a marriage ceremony that he was invited
- 7:39Speaker 1: to and he didn't, he didn't And so these are
- 7:42Speaker 1: all important things. And so I like it because of
- 7:45Speaker 1: the fact that you know, you know, when you walk
- 7:47Speaker 1: away from something, you know and you learn something. I
- 7:49Speaker 1: learned from this book, and so I want to point
- 7:51Speaker 1: this out so I might have a good time with
- 7:53Speaker 1: this book. I'm I'm up beat with Sean McDonald's up beat.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You know, I walked away. I walked away. I can't
- 7:58Speaker 1: wait for this interview. I got all these post is
- 8:00Speaker 1: we're gonna top and uh, because you know, you know
- 8:03Speaker 1: my natural background, I'm an uplifting guy. And so it
- 8:06Speaker 1: was one section of the book called cell phones and passwords?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Where God cell phones and passwords? If you like, I
- 8:16Speaker 1: can put my phone down anywhere in my house and
- 8:18Speaker 1: my wife can pick up my phone and shire she
- 8:21Speaker 1: asked me, what's your password? Give it to her. So
- 8:23Speaker 1: many people make mistakes with the two phones. I've never
- 8:25Speaker 1: had two phones in my life. First of all, okay,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I have one phone, one phone number. I never understand
- 8:30Speaker 1: the two phone system. Secondly, if if if you put
- 8:35Speaker 1: your phone down in anybody that you love or dating
- 8:39Speaker 1: of fiance, a wife goes towards your phone and you
- 8:42Speaker 1: dive into the phone, then you got a problem. You
- 8:46Speaker 1: got a problem because you got to be honest on
- 8:48Speaker 1: all levels. And that's all you're saying in this book,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and using the example of cell phones and password is
- 8:55Speaker 1: a great example from the common folk. We know how
- 8:58Speaker 1: we tied to that tech, knowlogy, and this technology can
- 9:02Speaker 1: be a barrier to get in your family right, to
- 9:05Speaker 1: get your relationship on point correct right. That's so true.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I know I never understood why in Teak housand nineteenes
- 9:14Speaker 1: we are still using cell phones or any kind of
- 9:18Speaker 1: electronic device to hide stuff, because as we know, with
- 9:21Speaker 1: computers they can be great, but they also can be
- 9:24Speaker 1: a curse. They can ruin your life. They will tell
- 9:27Speaker 1: every piece about you that you don't want. If you
- 9:30Speaker 1: pick up someone's cell phone these days, it's almost like
- 9:32Speaker 1: a into their lives. Um. So you got to be
- 9:36Speaker 1: an open book and you have to be very transparent
- 9:39Speaker 1: with your spouse about everything because as you say it,
- 9:43Speaker 1: it's only going to take a crack of a cell
- 9:45Speaker 1: phone um for them to open up and see what
- 9:48Speaker 1: you've been doing on your off time. Yes, and for
- 9:51Speaker 1: me that that that was part of our rebuilding process,
- 9:55Speaker 1: the fact that we were able to be as transparent
- 9:58Speaker 1: like there's nothing there's no um, there's no sight, there's
- 10:03Speaker 1: no page, there's no code that my wife does not
- 10:07Speaker 1: have for me because we need to be able to
- 10:09Speaker 1: be open with each other there. And the thing is
- 10:12Speaker 1: she doesn't even have to look, she doesn't even care
- 10:14Speaker 1: to look because she knows, she knows everything. I love it.
- 10:17Speaker 1: You're exactly right, and there's accord of the book. Marriage
- 10:19Speaker 1: is all tied to the amount of work. And if
- 10:23Speaker 1: you're not willing to put in the work, do not
- 10:26Speaker 1: get married. If you're not willing to put in the
- 10:28Speaker 1: work into your business, do not start a business. If
- 10:31Speaker 1: you're not willing to put in work in the job
- 10:33Speaker 1: that you're doing four day hours a week, change jobs.
- 10:36Speaker 1: You have to be committed to be successful, and marriage
- 10:39Speaker 1: is a part of that process. Your family is part
- 10:41Speaker 1: of your process, and family tied to making it number one,
- 10:44Speaker 1: meaning that you prioritized the set up because if you
- 10:47Speaker 1: if you got all the success in the world and
- 10:50Speaker 1: you go home to a dysfunctional family, guess what your
- 10:54Speaker 1: day's gonna be. Dysfunction. You're nice gonna be this function.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You're gonna wake up this function. So fix the family first,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and I promise you this shift to be right. That's
- 11:03Speaker 1: called a balanced life. That's what I preach on this show.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Another thing I wanted to talk about on the show
- 11:07Speaker 1: What You Guys, was talking on the phone having time
- 11:10Speaker 1: for each other. I know we got like three minutes left,
- 11:13Speaker 1: but I wanted to bring that up because that's an
- 11:15Speaker 1: issue that people have. You know, they they they talk
- 11:19Speaker 1: when they see each other. You know, because the telephone
- 11:22Speaker 1: is the new flowers to me, you know, send your
- 11:24Speaker 1: white flowers and your girlfriend flowers, send your send your
- 11:27Speaker 1: fiance flowers because you can you can communicate. Communications is
- 11:31Speaker 1: so key because no excuses. Back in the old days,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, you groting. Without telephone, the regular telephone, you
- 11:36Speaker 1: couldn't drive. You go to work, then you talk. You
- 11:39Speaker 1: could actually drive home and have a conversation. Use that
- 11:43Speaker 1: as valuable communication time for your relationship. Correct, that's what
- 11:47Speaker 1: That's exactly what we do, and we encourage all couples
- 11:50Speaker 1: to find a way to um give each other quality
- 11:54Speaker 1: time and for us because they're both busy. What we
- 11:58Speaker 1: what I vowed is when I'm in my car and
- 11:59Speaker 1: I'm driving, I could be driving the our the way,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I could be driving three hours away. I called her
- 12:04Speaker 1: and we talked the whole time I'm driving, because that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: uninterrupted time between you and your spouse. And and I
- 12:12Speaker 1: don't I don't even click over. Somebody called me the
- 12:14Speaker 1: text me or whatever. I answer those texts when I
- 12:16Speaker 1: get it where I'm going. But that's time I spend
- 12:19Speaker 1: with my wife. And there's been plenty times I drive
- 12:22Speaker 1: on my way home I talked to get in the garage.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Because when you see each other, you say, hey, how
- 12:30Speaker 1: you doing, how would you day? And that's it as
- 12:32Speaker 1: opposed to giving them time when you actually allow each
- 12:35Speaker 1: other to talk out your ideas talk about your point
- 12:38Speaker 1: and talk about what your dreams are, talking about how
- 12:40Speaker 1: you feel, you know, the things you can really talk
- 12:43Speaker 1: through when you're on the phone in the car. This
- 12:45Speaker 1: is amazing just hearing this, having this conversation. We gotta
- 12:48Speaker 1: got the album that came out and get this out.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It came out the Miracle Worker. We want to shout
- 12:52Speaker 1: that out, that that came out last mark. Uh. How's
- 12:55Speaker 1: it doing? Uh? What's the expectations of that one? After
- 12:57Speaker 1: that tremendous success on the previous one. It's doing great.
- 13:01Speaker 1: You know what I found with this one. I wanted
- 13:03Speaker 1: to go a little bit of a different direction. You
- 13:05Speaker 1: deserve it a lot of us to really have a
- 13:07Speaker 1: great um reach into Africa. So we recorded a few
- 13:10Speaker 1: African songs and It's Funny, just one one of the songs.
- 13:14Speaker 1: We just released a video for I'm Funny you have
- 13:18Speaker 1: like in four days and have like five hundred of
- 13:21Speaker 1: thousands US of somebody four to some thousands of view
- 13:23Speaker 1: because that's how they consume music. So we wanted to
- 13:27Speaker 1: release music in a way that would really appeal to
- 13:29Speaker 1: the African continent, and it's been really successful so far. Awesome,
- 13:34Speaker 1: My man. I want to thank both of you guys
- 13:36Speaker 1: for coming on my show. All right. As you can see,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I've fallen in love with the book, your brand, you're
- 13:42Speaker 1: getting uh, this is your home, training us your home too.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And I'm glad you. I'm glad you. I'm glad you
- 13:48Speaker 1: realized that I'm with your girl. I'm with you, boy.
- 13:52Speaker 1: We thank you. We appreciate your support and the support
- 13:55Speaker 1: for real. And I realized that people when I talk
- 13:58Speaker 1: about success, when I talk talk about work, you have
- 14:01Speaker 1: to put work in anything that you want, twenty four
- 14:04Speaker 1: hours a day. I always tell everybody there's an hour
- 14:07Speaker 1: on each day that you can you last to be successful.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Put the time in and you will win. We'll be

- 17:35Speaker 1: are just hysterical. We try to keep levity, and you know,
- 17:42Speaker 1: we try to do that well you you you bring it.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You bring it because the reason I like, I love
- 17:47Speaker 1: it and I'm happy you was able to do my show,
- 17:49Speaker 1: because sometimes individuals like you that are so talented, I
- 17:53Speaker 1: just like, I just want to just tell you how
- 17:55Speaker 1: good you are personally and uh and you know that
- 17:58Speaker 1: some people say I care a little way in the industry.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You know, my what I say really helps out people
- 18:03Speaker 1: and stuff like that. I'm just saying I'm not trying
- 18:05Speaker 1: to help you out because you're being helped by your
- 18:06Speaker 1: own talents that God gave you, and you've been and
- 18:09Speaker 1: you're tied to hard work. Now, the fun part about
- 18:12Speaker 1: this conversation is that you started doing stand up a
- 18:15Speaker 1: Prayer View, which is right outside of Houston, Texas, because
- 18:18Speaker 1: you're Detroit girl. Correct, Yeah, exactly, that's right. So so
- 18:24Speaker 1: now tell me about this whole transition, because you know,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you kind of like me in a way because you
- 18:29Speaker 1: know I work for i BM. I got a math
- 18:33Speaker 1: degree and I was doing stand up comedy at night,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and then I eventually IBM to pursue a career stand up.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Tell us your background how it all got started. Well,
- 18:43Speaker 1: that's um or really. I got a I'M front to
- 18:46Speaker 1: boost the projects, didn't hand on money, and then one
- 18:49Speaker 1: day I ended up going to UM. I got a
- 18:53Speaker 1: scholarship to go down to Preview and University and UM.
- 18:59Speaker 1: One day I just even though I had the scholarship,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I didn't have any spending money. I was in a
- 19:03Speaker 1: bot one day and it was like, well, we'll give
- 19:06Speaker 1: somebody fifty dollars for the best story, and I needed
- 19:10Speaker 1: don money. So I just got a fan say the story.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I don't know what I said. I don't know what
- 19:15Speaker 1: the story. I just made up something and got the
- 19:16Speaker 1: fifty dollars. And that made me realize that people actually
- 19:21Speaker 1: pay people to tell stories. I was like, oh, this
- 19:23Speaker 1: is this is this is nice. But I decided to
- 19:27Speaker 1: go ahead and get my degree since I was already
- 19:29Speaker 1: down there, got a job. I got a job in
- 19:33Speaker 1: UM in Los Angeles at Zeros and then UM I
- 19:37Speaker 1: worked there and I never really thought i'd be a
- 19:40Speaker 1: stand up but then one day I was like depressed.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I didn't know what I wanted to do in my life.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I just knew I wasn't happy. I didn't want to
- 19:47Speaker 1: be marry UM. I had have boyfriend and all that
- 19:51Speaker 1: kind of stuff, and you know, and you know, you
- 19:53Speaker 1: get a nice job and all this kind of stuff.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Is happy to make the fishes in your life. But
- 19:57Speaker 1: I just wasn't happy. And one day I went to
- 19:59Speaker 1: the comedy store and I saw all these men doing
- 20:03Speaker 1: stand up and I only saw one woman, and I
- 20:06Speaker 1: was like, wow, that's interesting. It's just one woman. And
- 20:08Speaker 1: he was talking on kind of stuff, you know, you
- 20:11Speaker 1: know back then, you know, and the nieties that, oh yeah,
- 20:19Speaker 1: that's what I started getting back in it. I started
- 20:22Speaker 1: getting back in the stand up. I built up my
- 20:24Speaker 1: career and one day we had a layoff at my
- 20:26Speaker 1: job and I went to my boss. I said, you know,
- 20:29Speaker 1: save the job and laid me off because I was
- 20:31Speaker 1: I was the worst engineer and not a safe right,
- 20:39Speaker 1: because first of all, you would not that's not what
- 20:41Speaker 1: you wanted to do. It's just like IBM, I don't care.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I as good a job as they said I was doing.
- 20:47Speaker 1: My heart was not in the job. That was not
- 20:49Speaker 1: your passion. Your gift was someplace else. And that's why
- 20:52Speaker 1: I bring individuals like you're on the show, because there
- 20:54Speaker 1: are a lot of people out there doing jobs right now.
- 20:56Speaker 1: They're afraid to change, they're afraid to transition. How did
- 21:00Speaker 1: you overcome that fear? Well, I overcome the fear by
- 21:06Speaker 1: making a plan. I knew something. First of all, I
- 21:09Speaker 1: had faith, and then I had faith that I knew
- 21:12Speaker 1: that God was gonna, you know, show me the way.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And then um, I had to make a plan. And
- 21:18Speaker 1: my plan was basically, what what was I gonna do?
- 21:21Speaker 1: So I tell anybody, no matter what you know, maybe
- 21:23Speaker 1: you want to open up a daycare, you want to
- 21:25Speaker 1: you know, open up a restaurant, you want to do
- 21:27Speaker 1: a catering business. You know, any whatever is you're trying
- 21:30Speaker 1: to do, study it. And that's one thing I like
- 21:33Speaker 1: about engineering. Engineering taught me how to study, and actually
- 21:38Speaker 1: it teaches you how to solve problems. For the problem
- 21:40Speaker 1: was I wasn't happy and I wanted to get out
- 21:43Speaker 1: of my current situation for I study. And I just
- 21:46Speaker 1: sort of started studying comedy and and and understanding you know,
- 21:50Speaker 1: what was a joke, what was funny, what wasn't funny?
- 21:53Speaker 1: And people say, you can't you you could be naturally funny,
- 21:56Speaker 1: you have to have that talent. But there's awesome mechanics
- 21:59Speaker 1: to understanding comedy. And so that's what I did. I
- 22:02Speaker 1: studied and then once I saw that, you know, the
- 22:05Speaker 1: sign for me was that layoff when I was like, oh,
- 22:09Speaker 1: everybody was crying, I was like, this is my time
- 22:11Speaker 1: to get up and get the layoff. You got several package,
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know, So that gave me a little cushion, you know.
- 22:20Speaker 1: And then I had already started developing some contacts in
- 22:24Speaker 1: the comedy world. So it was it wasn't an easy transition.
- 22:29Speaker 1: But at least it wasn't like I know some people
- 22:31Speaker 1: they said, well, I'm gonna do comedy for six months.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Comedy is not a six month thing. You when you
- 22:36Speaker 1: get in it, you gotta get in it, and it's
- 22:39Speaker 1: gonna be for a lifetime. You know. It's really funny.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Just just I've never spoken to a comedian with a
- 22:44Speaker 1: with an engineering degree, and it's the same line that
- 22:46Speaker 1: I have in math, and I'm hearing a person talked
- 22:49Speaker 1: similar to me. Because it's a plan through the whole process.
- 22:53Speaker 1: The plan I went out there I had. I would
- 22:55Speaker 1: go into the clubs and give people like, uh, can
- 22:57Speaker 1: you evaluate by comedy performance? And I was putting in
- 23:01Speaker 1: the folder, Yo, get my sheet. They look at me, going,
- 23:03Speaker 1: what you're talking about, saying, it's a it's a form.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Just check off what you think of me in and
- 23:08Speaker 1: you can mail it in later. And I'm gonna use
- 23:10Speaker 1: this to get me bookings at other clubs. They wait, oh, okay, okay,
- 23:14Speaker 1: We've never had anybody do this before. I said, yeah,
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'm just this is how I've been trained for my
- 23:17Speaker 1: BM You do a job, you give, evaluate evaluated by,
- 23:21Speaker 1: and people will pay you based on your evaluation. And
- 23:24Speaker 1: just hearing your logic. It's all in the same place.
- 23:27Speaker 1: It's like, Okay, here I see these layoffs. Here's an
- 23:30Speaker 1: opportunity to let me take this severs pay. But you
- 23:32Speaker 1: also know there's no guaranteed. But you also know that, hey,
- 23:35Speaker 1: you know, you gotta work. It's a it's a long run,
- 23:38Speaker 1: and that's where people start falling off. M hmm. Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 1: There's been so many comics that I know that I've
- 23:45Speaker 1: tried to transition, Like, you know, I knew I needed
- 23:48Speaker 1: to be someplace, either Los Angeles or New York if
- 23:52Speaker 1: you really want to be in the business. I know
- 23:54Speaker 1: some comics they but like, well, you know, I saved
- 23:56Speaker 1: up enough money six months and I'm gonna make it.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And it's like, dude, you're not gonna make it in
- 24:01Speaker 1: six months. You know, it's just it, don't It doesn't
- 24:04Speaker 1: work like that. So I tell anybody, no matter what
- 24:07Speaker 1: type of transition you're trying to make, you gotta have
- 24:10Speaker 1: a plan. You um, And there's nothing I think people
- 24:14Speaker 1: feel like, well, you know, sometimes I don't have to
- 24:16Speaker 1: have a security net. Nothing's wrong to me. Nothing's wrong
- 24:20Speaker 1: with having a security net. I knew that if it
- 24:22Speaker 1: didn't work. I could always do something else. I could
- 24:25Speaker 1: teach after that, And that's another thing. And you have
- 24:27Speaker 1: your plan. But also having like a little backup plan.
- 24:30Speaker 1: And the backup plan doesn't mean that you're gonna fails.
- 24:33Speaker 1: To me, it's just something in your subconscious that you
- 24:36Speaker 1: know you'll be all right, you know, instead of having
- 24:39Speaker 1: nothing at all, you know, you know, have a plan.
- 24:42Speaker 1: This is a great thing about this, you know I'm
- 24:45Speaker 1: talking about because I gotta I gotta make this. I
- 24:47Speaker 1: made an announcement in your credits about hosting Essence music
- 24:52Speaker 1: festivals called Estance Festival. Now and walking on the stage,
- 24:55Speaker 1: you know it can be as a minute, seventy thousand
- 24:57Speaker 1: people in front of you, okay, well, and then knowing
- 25:01Speaker 1: where you started. You know, you knowing because when you
- 25:03Speaker 1: when you start making these transition, telling people, you're telling jokes.
- 25:06Speaker 1: They wait, girl, don't you have to a degree in engineering?
- 25:09Speaker 1: The people are doubt. You know, your family members of
- 25:12Speaker 1: question you. We are you gonna get paid? How are
- 25:15Speaker 1: you gonna get paid? Well? Where's the regular check at? Now?
- 25:17Speaker 1: You you're leaving something good here? You sure you sure?
- 25:20Speaker 1: You sure? So in that transition, you have to start
- 25:23Speaker 1: surrounding yourself with people who think like you and have
- 25:26Speaker 1: your same passion, Otherwise you won't make it through the
- 25:30Speaker 1: whole process and to go and they go from that
- 25:34Speaker 1: to being on the stage walking out there. Talk talk
- 25:37Speaker 1: about first of all getting the opportunity, to getting the
- 25:39Speaker 1: call to do that, and then walking out on stage
- 25:41Speaker 1: the first time at Essence Festival. Well, the thing is
- 25:46Speaker 1: what people have to realize is number one, a lot
- 25:49Speaker 1: of time, everybody's not gonna be happy for you. A
- 25:53Speaker 1: lot of that doubt that they that they that they sincerely,
- 25:56Speaker 1: they're they're trying to act like they're sincere and they're
- 25:59Speaker 1: worrying and caring out you is their own fear is
- 26:03Speaker 1: that they don't believe that you can do what you
- 26:05Speaker 1: say you're out to do. Um So I tell people
- 26:08Speaker 1: that you have to believe in yourself with nobody else believes,
- 26:11Speaker 1: and you believe in yourself. You know. I love you
- 26:13Speaker 1: because I love you because of who you represent. I
- 26:16Speaker 1: love you because of the authenticity of what you do
- 26:18Speaker 1: on television, and you stay true to who you are.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Keep winning. Okay, please and thank you for calling my show.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I appreciate you. Rashan, take care, Okay, happy holiday, Happy holidays.

- 28:26Speaker 1: of all, the Craig Houston, Texas. That's where you're born,
- 28:28Speaker 1: young man. Okay, cool, That's where I'm from. Absolutely, That's
- 28:32Speaker 1: why I'm from Fifth War, Texas. Brother, just gonna lockdowns
- 28:35Speaker 1: of information about each other. Get our gps together here, Okay. Now,
- 28:39Speaker 1: I was sir, yes, sir, right there, College Worth right
- 28:46Speaker 1: off fifty nine. Brother, right there, Russell and Bain Street.
- 28:48Speaker 1: That's where I was born. Right there. Now he is man,
- 28:52Speaker 1: My folks from Live Oak off in third ward. There
- 28:55Speaker 1: you go, there you go. Come on, Now we're gonna get.
- 28:57Speaker 1: We're gonna get. So we're gonna being so into you
- 29:00Speaker 1: and I. We're gonna be friends for life after this interview.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Now here's the beauty of our relationship. Okay. I was
- 29:06Speaker 1: at the Super Super Bowl Gospel Celebration taping and I
- 29:12Speaker 1: was sitting on the front row. Uh, because when you're big,
- 29:16Speaker 1: that's where they put you on the front row and
- 29:17Speaker 1: set you on the front room. And so and so
- 29:20Speaker 1: this young man came out, you know, uh because I
- 29:23Speaker 1: believe the mands were hosting. David twond Man was hosting
- 29:27Speaker 1: that year, and they introduced this young man called look Crazy.
- 29:31Speaker 1: I didn't even know his name. All I knew is
- 29:34Speaker 1: he came out and he was rapping, and I was
- 29:37Speaker 1: turning next to the person. I was saying, who is
- 29:40Speaker 1: that dude? Because first of all, he looked good and
- 29:43Speaker 1: he see here's the thing about his gifts, Because see,
- 29:48Speaker 1: gospel is rooted in you know, the traditional look, you know, singing,
- 29:53Speaker 1: you know, you know you you road gotta have that choir,
- 29:58Speaker 1: gotta had a conductor. Here. He was out there on
- 30:01Speaker 1: that stage by himself rapping and he I remember, I
- 30:04Speaker 1: remember something he did. He told her about to raise
- 30:06Speaker 1: their hands and everybody and this this this performance at
- 30:10Speaker 1: Lakewood as Joel Osteen's church. Now that's that's a former
- 30:14Speaker 1: home or the Houston Rockets. You know, you're talking about
- 30:17Speaker 1: people up in that june and all of them raised
- 30:19Speaker 1: their hands. I look around, who is this dude? And
- 30:23Speaker 1: then but better than that, he's what he was saying
- 30:26Speaker 1: said something to me. His beat says something to me.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And I became a fan of your talents from that day.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And you didn't even know that, young man. You didn't
- 30:36Speaker 1: even know that you affected a person like me, ra
- 30:38Speaker 1: Sean McDonald based on your skill set. I didn't know
- 30:41Speaker 1: you from Houston at the time. All I know is
- 30:44Speaker 1: that when you still on that stage and then you
- 30:45Speaker 1: walked off that stage and walked down those aisles, you
- 30:47Speaker 1: walk right down my aisle. I went, I wonder who
- 30:51Speaker 1: managing him? Because brother, you got it. Man, tell us
- 30:57Speaker 1: about that journey a little just just just a little
- 30:59Speaker 1: bit of that journey. Because of the fact that when
- 31:02Speaker 1: I was watching California Dreams Dreaming, it said that it
- 31:05Speaker 1: seemed to say that you grew up in California. But
- 31:08Speaker 1: then by bio, your bio says that you were born
- 31:10Speaker 1: in Houston, Texas. Can you help me out there? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 1: So my uh, you know, I got a military family,
- 31:19Speaker 1: so of course we spend a lot of time in
- 31:21Speaker 1: different places. I was, I was my family originates in Houston, Texas.
- 31:26Speaker 1: So that's for most of them livem that's for you know,
- 31:28Speaker 1: my mother's firm. That's where I was. I started out at,
- 31:32Speaker 1: but were moved around. So I spent the time in
- 31:33Speaker 1: San Diego in California, and I spent the time at
- 31:36Speaker 1: Denver and in Dallas, right, So, but but Houston has
- 31:40Speaker 1: always been, you know, kind of the origin the room.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Ain't that wrong? And there's nothing wrong with having Houston
- 31:47Speaker 1: as your origin, my friend, Yeah, what was washed that
- 31:54Speaker 1: Reach Records your record copy Reach Records is actually a
- 31:59Speaker 1: stat just um right outside of Dallas and and then
- 32:03Speaker 1: Texas and uh, basically what it happened was a friend
- 32:06Speaker 1: of mine and I, you know, we were at the
- 32:08Speaker 1: University of North Texas UM and and that's kind of
- 32:12Speaker 1: where I had a spiritual transformation and just kind of realized, man,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I may need to use my gifts for you know,
- 32:18Speaker 1: bigger purpose and um, and so from there we began
- 32:21Speaker 1: to start putting out the music independently and uh, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: it you know, Texas is almost like its own country.
- 32:27Speaker 1: So just touring the state of Texas and and and
- 32:30Speaker 1: traveling through our Texas had had so many people supporting
- 32:34Speaker 1: the music and it just kind of spilled over from
- 32:36Speaker 1: there and and into the to the rest of the world,
- 32:39Speaker 1: and so you know, year after year, Uh, things just grew.
- 32:43Speaker 1: You know, we started off independently. I remember taking my
- 32:45Speaker 1: CD into Stories and selling them on consignment. And you
- 32:49Speaker 1: don't know what consignment is, just when you convinced the
- 32:51Speaker 1: story they need to buy some of your music. And
- 32:53Speaker 1: I was sending my friends in the store to go
- 32:55Speaker 1: buy the music that they bought, and they would buy
- 32:57Speaker 1: some more from me. And so uh only have the
- 33:00Speaker 1: trunk of my car. And we did that for years
- 33:02Speaker 1: until things just kind of group beyond having to do
- 33:06Speaker 1: it that way. Well know, look crazy, It's really a
- 33:08Speaker 1: blessing to have this conversation with you because the fact
- 33:11Speaker 1: that you affected me and it's such a positive way.
- 33:14Speaker 1: And that's what I really love about gospel music and
- 33:17Speaker 1: in your case, hip hop music and rap because of
- 33:21Speaker 1: the fact that I'm old school. You know, I tupas
- 33:24Speaker 1: my man. Okay, you know, I grew up with at
- 33:27Speaker 1: the comedy club in Houston, hip Hop Comedy, Stop Back,
- 33:31Speaker 1: and so my whole, my whole flavor is tied to
- 33:34Speaker 1: what you're doing. Even though I'm an R and B guy,
- 33:37Speaker 1: you know, I'm I'm an old Jay's guy, you know,
- 33:40Speaker 1: Marvin Gay, I'm all that. And so when I so
- 33:42Speaker 1: when I see you, I see I see a very
- 33:45Speaker 1: gifted young man that that really is kind of like
- 33:48Speaker 1: touching a person that that's in my age group, but
- 33:50Speaker 1: also younger people too. Tell me to talk to us
- 33:53Speaker 1: about the responsibility of what you're delivering with your music. Well, yeah,
- 33:59Speaker 1: you know, I um, you know, I spent a lot
- 34:02Speaker 1: of time with my grandmother, who's basically like the spiritual
- 34:06Speaker 1: matriarch of the family, and so there's a little bit
- 34:09Speaker 1: of an old soul and me as well that that
- 34:11Speaker 1: helps me to connect to people, you know, outside of
- 34:14Speaker 1: my you know, typical age range or or or you know, demographic.
- 34:18Speaker 1: But then at the same time, you know, I was
- 34:20Speaker 1: raised in the streets and I ran ran the streets
- 34:23Speaker 1: as a as a kid, and so I was influenced
- 34:25Speaker 1: by a lot of that type stuff. And so for me,
- 34:27Speaker 1: I think about how do I take the wisdom that
- 34:30Speaker 1: folks like my grandmother had instilled in me and uh
- 34:33Speaker 1: and how to apply it to folks who grow up
- 34:35Speaker 1: like me who you know, we're looking for godance and
- 34:37Speaker 1: looking for you know, different um models because I didn't
- 34:41Speaker 1: grow up having models in rowd models. By the time
- 34:43Speaker 1: I was a grown man, you know, mart Luther King
- 34:46Speaker 1: was gone and so you know, all we had was
- 34:49Speaker 1: a lot of confused individuals who were doing the best
- 34:52Speaker 1: that they could, but you know, they didn't know which
- 34:55Speaker 1: way was up. So for me, the responsibility is to
- 34:57Speaker 1: use my music and my gift as a tool to
- 34:59Speaker 1: a to help people see their guy given potential and
- 35:02Speaker 1: to understand that you know that they were created for
- 35:05Speaker 1: a bigger purpose than what they may now. You really
- 35:08Speaker 1: are are uniquely uh crafted individual and I and more
- 35:15Speaker 1: so that I when it comes to entrepreneurship, because we're
- 35:18Speaker 1: gonna talk about their your involvement is in there and
- 35:20Speaker 1: some of the projects in Atlanta, I call you a
- 35:23Speaker 1: social entrepreneur because of the fact that you go in
- 35:27Speaker 1: and you're trying to change the community. You're trying to
- 35:29Speaker 1: keep the community intact, but you're also trying to bring
- 35:32Speaker 1: business and trying to upgrade because you know, once you
- 35:35Speaker 1: increase the taxes, then gets to what. Schools get better,
- 35:38Speaker 1: policing gets better, the community gets better. And that's what
- 35:41Speaker 1: social entrepreneurs do. Tell us about the English Avenue project
- 35:46Speaker 1: that you involved with in Atlanta, Yeah, so he was
- 35:50Speaker 1: Avenue is uh historically being uh, you know, over the
- 35:54Speaker 1: last decade or so, it's been a very tough area.
- 35:58Speaker 1: You know, no as the heroine capital of the Southeast
- 36:02Speaker 1: and um, a lot of traffickings, a lot of you know,
- 36:07Speaker 1: just uh tough activity going on over there. Hadn't been
- 36:11Speaker 1: a school there, uh in years since a matter of fact,
- 36:14Speaker 1: since nineteen ninety six. So there's more grocery stores. I
- 36:16Speaker 1: mean there's not even there's there's no grocery stores. You know,
- 36:19Speaker 1: it's just there's it's a food desert, it's a school desert,
- 36:22Speaker 1: and UM, it's very unfortunate situation. And so a good
- 36:26Speaker 1: friend of mine, Benjamin Wills, had a vision to uh
- 36:29Speaker 1: to see some change in that community, and you know,
- 36:33Speaker 1: I came alongside Benjamin Wills and um and we worked
- 36:38Speaker 1: hard to put a school in that community, and so
- 36:40Speaker 1: Peace Preparatory Academy is in this fourth year now, um,
- 36:43Speaker 1: adding in grade every year. So it's the first school
- 36:45Speaker 1: has been in the neighborhood uh since ninety six. I
- 36:48Speaker 1: also took it upon myself to uh to you know,
- 36:52Speaker 1: uh take ownership over some of the properties down there,
- 36:55Speaker 1: because it's you know, as a black man, I wanted
- 36:57Speaker 1: to make sure that the community was owned by somebody
- 36:59Speaker 1: who cares about the community. And so instead of just
- 37:02Speaker 1: putting up, you know, random things that are not helpful
- 37:06Speaker 1: for the community and just trying to profit off of them,
- 37:08Speaker 1: I'm thinking through, how can we do something that is
- 37:10Speaker 1: profitable uh as a business, but then also uh you know, sustainable,
- 37:16Speaker 1: but it also helps the community. So things like that
- 37:18Speaker 1: are you know, um, places that can house folks and
- 37:24Speaker 1: they can pay rent at a lower at a lower price,
- 37:26Speaker 1: but they can also work in the storefront and so
- 37:29Speaker 1: you just get different um circumstances and different things along
- 37:33Speaker 1: those lines. So you know, there's, um, there's there's stores
- 37:37Speaker 1: storefronts that provide healthier options for people, but that provide
- 37:42Speaker 1: them at at a at a cost that they can afford.
- 37:46Speaker 1: You hire people from within the community, and that that
- 37:49Speaker 1: becomes a part of the process of getting English as umar.
- 37:55Speaker 1: That's what the Hoodie Awards was all about, when I
- 37:57Speaker 1: would it for sixties straight years about and that's that's
- 38:01Speaker 1: there's two stars of the community. There's the stars are
- 38:03Speaker 1: built within the community. We're gonna bring them outside that
- 38:05Speaker 1: they're they're gifted people within the community. We just got
- 38:08Speaker 1: to shine a stronger light on it. I'll be remiss
- 38:10Speaker 1: if I don't talk about it. Your music as we
- 38:12Speaker 1: close out is California Dreaming. Is that's your new yest
- 38:15Speaker 1: single video out? A new single out? Or or it's
- 38:18Speaker 1: one that's come out after that? No, yeah, that's the
- 38:22Speaker 1: latest one. We we we put that out as a
- 38:24Speaker 1: summer project, you know, just something for the summer, playing
- 38:27Speaker 1: playing ding ding ten speed bias, riding a little the
- 38:31Speaker 1: little banana bikes. Okay, now, all right, what you know
- 38:34Speaker 1: about dominoes? Don't look crazy? That's what I'm lying to you.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Are you just are you just faking like you're playing dominoes?
- 38:39Speaker 1: Or you really know how to play dominoes? Don't look
- 38:43Speaker 1: they don't want it with me? Okay, now I would
- 38:49Speaker 1: say so is the it's the real deal with my
- 38:52Speaker 1: brother because I'm I'm I'm on Thursday, I'm a post
- 38:54Speaker 1: college were on the dreaming on my social media, okay
- 38:57Speaker 1: you know, and I'm I'm gonna posting them on so
- 39:00Speaker 1: your media. I'm gonna tell you this. I live in Atlanta.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I also have a home in Houston, so you have
- 39:04Speaker 1: two places you can you can you can knock me out. Okay,
- 39:06Speaker 1: you can knock me out. Mr Bones, don't want none
- 39:09Speaker 1: of me, Okay, don't want none of meat. I'm talking
- 39:11Speaker 1: to me, not you met because because you're a special talent,
- 39:17Speaker 1: You're special talent. Man. I want to thank you for
- 39:20Speaker 1: coming on my show La Craze and as you can see, man,
- 39:23Speaker 1: I wanted to let you know that I am a fan.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I wanted to do research in the brain. I wanted
- 39:28Speaker 1: to tell some of your story. And it's not enough
- 39:31Speaker 1: enough time to tell you how great and it changes
- 39:33Speaker 1: you're making in the community. Just do me a favorite though, change,
- 39:36Speaker 1: stay strong and keep being you. Okay, We'll be right

- 40:59Speaker 1: product Jack. She is on the show today discussed her
- 41:02Speaker 1: new book Hard came out November nineteen. Uh, The Little
- 41:05Speaker 1: Book of Big Lives, A Journey into into Inner Fitness. Please,
- 41:10Speaker 1: welcome to Money Making Conversation, Tina Lifford. Hi, son, it's
- 41:14Speaker 1: so nice to be here. First time we talked on
- 41:17Speaker 1: the phone and you was coming through Atlanta in the
- 41:20Speaker 1: event here. I was not able to make it because
- 41:24Speaker 1: I travel a lot and I try to get back
- 41:26Speaker 1: in town and sometimes I'm kidding my life. But the
- 41:29Speaker 1: beauty of it. I'm watching you now, I'm joined the
- 41:32Speaker 1: relationship I'm creating with you because I feel your relationship
- 41:36Speaker 1: driven person and reading your book, The Little Book of
- 41:39Speaker 1: Big Lives, A Journey into Inner Fitness. Okay, let's let's
- 41:43Speaker 1: start right there. Okay, UM, what is the Inner Fitness Project?
- 41:48Speaker 1: So first, let me define interfitness. Inter Fitness is literally
- 41:53Speaker 1: being fit on the inside, absolutely developing the mental, emotional,
- 41:57Speaker 1: and spiritual skills and practices that can help us reduce stress,
- 42:02Speaker 1: be strong on the inside, feel resilient, and more than anything,
- 42:07Speaker 1: to begin to thrive instead of just merely survive in
- 42:12Speaker 1: our lives. You know. Uh, my aim, my personal aim
- 42:17Speaker 1: is to be fully alive when I die, you know. Um.
- 42:21Speaker 1: And so the Inner Fitness Project recognized that you know,
- 42:26Speaker 1: there's all this emphasis on physical fitness and literally no
- 42:33Speaker 1: emphasis on inner fitness, and we really have to address
- 42:38Speaker 1: the fact that we have there is a self inside
- 42:42Speaker 1: of us, that self has needs, and we must become
- 42:47Speaker 1: as familiar and practice in dealing with that self as
- 42:53Speaker 1: we are the physical body. Because so when you say
- 42:57Speaker 1: that is can I say right when I say, therapy
- 43:00Speaker 1: is something especially within the in the community of color,
- 43:04Speaker 1: therapy is something like a word that's like, oh, you
- 43:07Speaker 1: have something really wrong with you, and and and so
- 43:10Speaker 1: that's what you're talking about. Being able to to heal,
- 43:13Speaker 1: to be able to grow, to develop the internal, the
- 43:15Speaker 1: mental structure, the emotional structure will guide you through your
- 43:19Speaker 1: daily life, which sometimes is way more important than your
- 43:22Speaker 1: your outside, which is your physical being. Absolutely well, your
- 43:25Speaker 1: physical being can't help you resolve those hurts, dramas, traumas,
- 43:30Speaker 1: upsets and disappointments that you carry. And we all have
- 43:35Speaker 1: unresolved hurts, drama's, traumas, upsets and disappointments. It's not our fault.
- 43:41Speaker 1: It's by nature of our nervous system. When we have
- 43:46Speaker 1: experiences and they are not properly processed, those experiences hang
- 43:52Speaker 1: on inside as an emotional reaction. Cool. Now, before we
- 43:59Speaker 1: get in detail about the book, which I really enjoyed.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Um there because you're sharing I guess, the emotional slices
- 44:08Speaker 1: of your life, some of them very personal and something.
- 44:11Speaker 1: So when you start writing a book like that, how
- 44:14Speaker 1: do you make the decision that I can I'm gonna
- 44:16Speaker 1: be honest here. You know, we're talking about your dad's
- 44:19Speaker 1: relationship with your mom, with your mom, what is abusive
- 44:23Speaker 1: at times? And talk about the story when you know
- 44:25Speaker 1: when your dad got out of the car and you
- 44:28Speaker 1: got locked the door and your mom drove home and
- 44:30Speaker 1: your dad had to walk in later, you know, and
- 44:32Speaker 1: that that that those type of personal experience you talk
- 44:35Speaker 1: about when you when you know when you the little
- 44:37Speaker 1: boy Jeffrey and your best friend, you know, he told
- 44:41Speaker 1: you he loved you and you was a cloud nine
- 44:43Speaker 1: and realized that was a joke, but that was those
- 44:46Speaker 1: Those are those what you're saying is like, these are
- 44:48Speaker 1: different moments and there are more moments. I don't want
- 44:51Speaker 1: to reveal the entire book because I want you to
- 44:52Speaker 1: buy the book, but those are these are some of
- 44:55Speaker 1: the key moments that you're talking about in your past.
- 44:58Speaker 1: You're inner fitness that you have to cre or admit
- 45:01Speaker 1: has happened in your journey in order for you to
- 45:03Speaker 1: move forward. That's exactly right. Talk to us about that. Okay,
- 45:06Speaker 1: So we we all have experiences, you know, and you know,
- 45:12Speaker 1: one experience can't be compared to the other if it
- 45:16Speaker 1: left you feeling less than, not good enough or disconnected
- 45:20Speaker 1: from yourself in any way. It is an experience that
- 45:24Speaker 1: you can rewire your relationship. Yes, and until we rewire
- 45:32Speaker 1: our relationship to those experiences, those experiences live inside and
- 45:38Speaker 1: they actually dictate our behavior. You know, if in fact
- 45:43Speaker 1: you had uh, you know, like Jeffrey in the book.
- 45:48Speaker 1: You know, if in fact your first experience with love
- 45:53Speaker 1: was as disappointing and um shameful as mine, then you
- 45:59Speaker 1: can make decisions about love that aren't going to be
- 46:05Speaker 1: supportive of what you really really want because you should
- 46:08Speaker 1: have reflected your relationships moving forth. Yes, absolutely, the nile
- 46:11Speaker 1: because you you, instead of admitting that you are hurt
- 46:15Speaker 1: by that game that your best friend leaning behind you
- 46:19Speaker 1: telling was a lie, you just went, oh yeah, but
- 46:23Speaker 1: isn't that that the natural response is to is to
- 46:26Speaker 1: shield yourself from pain. Well, that that maybe the reaction
- 46:32Speaker 1: that's the surviving self reaction. But the I talked about
- 46:38Speaker 1: the three selves in the book, the surviving self, the
- 46:41Speaker 1: thriving self in the infinite self, and the surviving self.
- 46:48Speaker 1: It's its job is to help us feel safe, but
- 46:54Speaker 1: it's sometimes is helping us feel safe in ways that
- 46:59Speaker 1: no longer actually support our life. You know, if, in fact,
- 47:04Speaker 1: I made a decision as a you know, seven year
- 47:08Speaker 1: old or or seventeen year old, and now I'm still
- 47:12Speaker 1: living by that decision and I'm not free enough to
- 47:16Speaker 1: to see that I've grown beyond that hurt, then I'm
- 47:22Speaker 1: being held hostage by the past, right, And we don't
- 47:27Speaker 1: want to be held hostage, and we don't have to
- 47:29Speaker 1: be held hostage. I'm going to tell you that everyone
- 47:33Speaker 1: listening has some secret, you know, some fear something that
- 47:39Speaker 1: they feel that if if other people knew it, would
- 47:44Speaker 1: you know, in somehow um uh deflate their reputation, it
- 47:49Speaker 1: would uh make them seem less then, And so you
- 47:54Speaker 1: don't reveal that, but you carry it around as a
- 47:57Speaker 1: secret and you hope that people don't come anywhere close
- 48:01Speaker 1: to uh that area of your life. And that's why
- 48:05Speaker 1: I was really impressed with your book, because you revealed secrets.
- 48:08Speaker 1: You revealed moments in your life that thought were very important.
- 48:12Speaker 1: And the thing about it is that when I look
- 48:14Speaker 1: back in my life, I can I loved your book
- 48:16Speaker 1: because of the fact that I can clearly remember moments
- 48:19Speaker 1: in my life. I can remember in the fifth grade
- 48:21Speaker 1: with my my teacher stopped me from running around the school.
- 48:24Speaker 1: So you can do better than this. Stop, You're not
- 48:26Speaker 1: like every other student here stopped. I can remember when
- 48:29Speaker 1: the little boy patted me down and took my money
- 48:32Speaker 1: every day, every day, you know, and I couldn't. I
- 48:35Speaker 1: couldn't figure out how could I get past this kid?
- 48:39Speaker 1: And I know that had to reflect on me. So
- 48:41Speaker 1: a reflection on me, and I can remember those those
- 48:43Speaker 1: moments like that. It's such an early age. And also
- 48:46Speaker 1: when I became up in middle school, I remember this
- 48:48Speaker 1: young lady. My teacher asked me to read, and because
- 48:52Speaker 1: I was a very good reader, and this this young
- 48:54Speaker 1: lady said, why is he reading all the time? I
- 48:57Speaker 1: want to read? And she couldn't read. But but that's
- 49:00Speaker 1: that caused me to to change hot smoke. Yes, it
- 49:07Speaker 1: caused you to um uh dim your light. Yes, it
- 49:13Speaker 1: caused you wanted to self conscious speaking yes, and and
- 49:19Speaker 1: so so when I when I'm reading your book, I'm going, Wow,
- 49:22Speaker 1: she's hitting so many steps on a person to me,
- 49:25Speaker 1: and I'm I'm I'm a person who people deemed successful.
- 49:28Speaker 1: People come to me for advice all the time. I
- 49:30Speaker 1: motivate people. But then we have all these little layers
- 49:33Speaker 1: in our lives that if we don't talk about them,
- 49:36Speaker 1: if we don't they admit that they happen, then they
- 49:39Speaker 1: just stay there and they contain a whole dark side
- 49:42Speaker 1: of your life. That's what I took from your book.
- 49:45Speaker 1: And I'm and I am recommending people by This book
- 49:48Speaker 1: is by Tina Lifford. Uh The Little Book of Big Lives,
- 49:51Speaker 1: A Journey into Inner fitness. Because I'm healing because of
- 49:55Speaker 1: your book, because of the fact that I tell these stories,
- 49:58Speaker 1: but they hear you articulate them in this book. Lets
- 50:02Speaker 1: me know I need to tell speak of them more. Yes, absolutely,
- 50:05Speaker 1: you know. One of the one of the things that
- 50:07Speaker 1: I love in the book. Um, there's a couple of
- 50:10Speaker 1: things that um, I love about the book. Number one
- 50:15Speaker 1: is I wrote it because I wanted people to be
- 50:20Speaker 1: able to get to their better life faster. I used
- 50:25Speaker 1: to pray the prayer God helped me to go through
- 50:28Speaker 1: doors first so that I can turn around and show
- 50:30Speaker 1: others how to quicker with greater grace and ease. And
- 50:33Speaker 1: so this book, you know, in fourteen simple stories, really
- 50:39Speaker 1: delivers rather profound concepts and then at the end of
- 50:44Speaker 1: each chapter there are actionable one to three things that
- 50:49Speaker 1: you can do. And that was my frustration is that,
- 50:53Speaker 1: you know, with the motivation and going to church, and
- 50:56Speaker 1: you know, those people on the stage were shining, but
- 51:00Speaker 1: didn't know what I needed to do inside of my
- 51:03Speaker 1: own brain. You know, how did I need to, uh think,
- 51:08Speaker 1: what did I need to do inside of myself so
- 51:11Speaker 1: that I could take ownership of the concepts that they
- 51:15Speaker 1: were talking Or you're one of the great story you
- 51:17Speaker 1: shares in the book about singing when your mom said
- 51:20Speaker 1: you could sing, you I can't sing, and you share
- 51:23Speaker 1: this story where you went into complete stage fight and
- 51:27Speaker 1: it just blocked out your ability to sing, and it
- 51:30Speaker 1: later played itself out in the future auditions and you
- 51:33Speaker 1: had to deal with that. So so basically what you're
- 51:36Speaker 1: saying in your book is that you can't run from it,
- 51:39Speaker 1: that it eventually gonna ugly head somewhere, absolutely, and it
- 51:44Speaker 1: rears its head. Uh. Sometimes as addiction it rears its head. Sometimes,
- 51:50Speaker 1: as you know, depression, it rears its head and in
- 51:53Speaker 1: a multitude of ways, and you can't outrun it. My
- 51:58Speaker 1: father thought he could outrun it. We can't outrun the past.
- 52:03Speaker 1: We have to rewire it. Being looked at by others
- 52:08Speaker 1: will not impact us in a negative way because we
- 52:12Speaker 1: know who we are. You know, I I feel you're
- 52:16Speaker 1: a soul mate. I'll just let you know that because
- 52:18Speaker 1: of the fact that you do a lot of things.
- 52:20Speaker 1: One of the things I really loved about when reading
- 52:22Speaker 1: your book you you have a downloadable free tool call
- 52:26Speaker 1: a s A l Ascending Scale to an Awesome Life.
- 52:30Speaker 1: You go to Tina the Foot dot com and download
- 52:34Speaker 1: a free tool a s A l Ascending Scale to
- 52:38Speaker 1: an Awesome Life. Please tell everybody what that is, because
- 52:41Speaker 1: I want to put that in my newsletter. Yeah. Well,
- 52:43Speaker 1: you know, one of the most important things we can
- 52:46Speaker 1: do is to begin to understand the power of the
- 52:50Speaker 1: thriving self. And what the thriving self gives us is
- 52:54Speaker 1: a sense of possibility. And we need to build the
- 52:59Speaker 1: muscle of being able to no matter what our situation is,
- 53:04Speaker 1: to get to a legitimate and resonating sense of possibility.
