- 0:00The B -Side in boxing. B -Side shit. B -Side.
- 0:04B -Side. And the B -Side. You got a B -Side.
- 0:06The B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. The B
- 0:10-Side thing. This is the B -Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:20We are here, baby. Boxing B -Sides. We are back
- 0:28up in your ears to talk the fights. I'm joined
- 0:30by the homies. Josh, Shanada. Hey. How goes it?
- 0:36Hey. Good. Good. We're supposed to get a typhoon
- 0:40tomorrow, so I've already taken the day off work
- 0:43because fuck work. Are you stocked up on booze?
- 0:48Not yet. I stocked up yesterday and then drank
- 0:51most of it. Well, we're going to have to run
- 0:59through this kind of quickly, so let's get right
- 1:01to it. First things first, MMA shit. Saturday,
- 1:06June 6th, UFC Vegas 118. The headline is Bilal
- 1:10Muhammad vs. Gabriel Bonfim. If you want to hear
- 1:13us talk about that, by the time you're hearing
- 1:15this, the episode of Ultimate FN Casuals should
- 1:18be out. So, have fun with that. I'm going to
- 1:22skip my usual intro. stuff and go straight to
- 1:26Shakur Stevenson signing with Zufa. Is that official
- 1:31now? It's all but confirmed at this point. I
- 1:39mean, I don't really care about Shakur, so go
- 1:43get your money, I guess. Oh man, this is like
- 1:47the rubber band of way overpaying for guys who
- 1:50do not make their market value. I think the word
- 1:55on the street is he's going to be getting approximately
- 1:58$15 million a fight. People are not going to
- 2:02pay $15 million to see Shakur. Right, because
- 2:07they're not doing pay -per -views on Zufa or
- 2:09on Paramount+. So how they expect to make that
- 2:13$15 million back is a very good question. Exactly.
- 2:17And who's he going to fight? Are they going to
- 2:19have to... pay out the ass to get people from
- 2:23other promotions. Built -in rivals are Richardson
- 2:27Hitchens and Conor Benn. Does anybody want those
- 2:33fights, though? They don't seem very competitive,
- 2:37either. Yeah, that's what I mean. Like, they
- 2:40don't sound fun or interesting. Is there any
- 2:45fight that's really interesting for Shakur? I
- 2:51mean, he's a weight class below all those guys
- 2:55now, isn't he? Like Haney and Garcia. Yeah. I
- 3:02just... It makes sense, considering nobody's
- 3:08going to pay him what he wants at this point,
- 3:09other than Zufa, but it's also disappointing
- 3:12because it means he's not going to have an interesting
- 3:15fight until basically the end of his career.
- 3:21Yeah, but that was probably going to happen anyways,
- 3:23I feel. Maybe. Because where does Shakur fight
- 3:33now? He's 135? 135. Or 140, okay. Once he beat
- 3:40Teofimo, he stayed at 140. This is how much I
- 3:45pay attention to his career. Scroll to 140. I
- 3:55mean, there's just nobody here. Is he gonna fight
- 4:00Dalton Smith and Gar? Like... Maybe Gar isn't
- 4:07that bad. Gar doesn't want it, though. Remember
- 4:10his, like, very clear avoidance of mentioning
- 4:16a fight with Shakur in his last post -fight interview.
- 4:23I don't think it matters who he's signed with.
- 4:26He's not going to get any fights that anybody
- 4:28cares about. Unless he moves up. Imagine if Roly
- 4:38manages to beat Shaker. See, that's Roly beating
- 4:43anyone. Roly is the gift that keeps on giving
- 4:47with this. Because if he does, it'll be really
- 4:52funny. One fight that might be coming up. It
- 5:01seems like it's coming up. Beevil versus BetterBF3.
- 5:06This one is being funded by the Russian oligarchs.
- 5:10They want that fight in Russia. So we're back
- 5:14to early DAZN then. Yes. We've come full circle
- 5:19with the financiers. We've come full circle.
- 5:21Oh my god. If it's streamed on the zone, then
- 5:25like, perfect. This is literally like, we're
- 5:27back. We're back to the old status quo. I don't
- 5:34care about this trilogy. I think Beavol won both
- 5:37fights. I agree. He's just gonna win more clearly
- 5:41than the second one. That's true. I think, that
- 5:48being said, um, you know, I don't, I don't mind
- 5:53it in the sense that, like, both guys are finally
- 5:55getting paid at the end of their careers. Yeah,
- 5:59it's not terrible, I'm just not excited. No,
- 6:03like, I'm, like, I'm not enthused, it's just,
- 6:06I'm happy that they're getting paid at the end
- 6:08of their careers. Considering the level of talent
- 6:12proportional to, especially on Better BF's end,
- 6:15like, he kind of spent his whole career not getting
- 6:20paid despite being the champion with 100 % KO
- 6:23rate. Yeah, and it's probably like a big personal
- 6:28thing for both of them to get to fight in Russia.
- 6:31Yeah. Also, it makes people even older for when
- 6:38he fights Benavidez, so there's that agenda.
- 6:42The Benavidez supremacy agenda? The Benavidez
- 6:46agenda, I don't mind people getting a bit older.
- 6:52I'm putting a couple more miles on the clock.
- 6:55Looks good against Beterbiev in the trilogy.
- 6:59That way, when Benavidez fucking nukes him, no
- 7:04one can detract. Exactly. The agenda is so good
- 7:09here with this, and it lets Benavidez... It lets
- 7:14us watch Benavidez brutalize another guy in the
- 7:16meantime. Matchroom and Queensberry are talking
- 7:26about another 5v5. Here are some details that
- 7:32I have. This might possibly be a 7v7. And some
- 7:38of the fights that they were brainstorming with
- 7:41were Callum Smith, Boazzi 2, lightweights Giorgio
- 7:46Visioli and Louis O'Doherty, middleweights Denzel
- 7:51Bentley and George Ladard, and heavyweights Johnny
- 7:54Fisher and Dillian White. Johnny Fisher is back,
- 8:00eh? I haven't seen him for a while. I just saw
- 8:03his dad had, like, a world record for ordering
- 8:06in different languages or whatever today. Yeah,
- 8:09like 30 different languages of takeout. Yeah.
- 8:13That's pretty impressive. No, I saw one where
- 8:16he was in France and he just, like, just able
- 8:19to order whatever obscene Isaac meal. He knows
- 8:24what he wants, so. But in, like, perfect French.
- 8:27Like, it was great. So, respect. um fisher white
- 8:33is a hilarious fight though yeah like these other
- 8:38ones are like competitive should be good time
- 8:41yeah i mean fisher white could be close ish it's
- 8:48funny though that's what i'm yeah yeah but i
- 8:51mean it's not like a terrible matchup it's not
- 8:53super one -sided at least i don't think it is
- 8:58I don't know. I like the 5v5. I thought that
- 9:00was fun. I'm happy to see him bring it back.
- 9:03Eddie Hearn getting spanked again. Those were
- 9:07actually his exact words. We got spanked the
- 9:10first time, so we have to try to run it back.
- 9:14Fair enough. Yeah, if it gets more inter -promotional
- 9:22fights going, I'm fucking here for it. Why not
- 9:26get Top Rank in the mix and make it like a 3v3v3
- 9:29or something? I don't know. That'd be interesting.
- 9:34Just some mix of... Yeah, I'm not against it.
- 9:40I kind of like the storyline. I think it's fun.
- 9:44It's what Boots Zayas kind of looks like, though.
- 9:46It is a top -ranked matchroom type of thing.
- 9:51I expect the rest of the card will be that way.
- 9:53It'll be their fighters. So it'll be... So we're
- 9:59kind of seeing that already, but yeah. Not official
- 10:04with scorekeeping. Oscar Collazo versus Joey
- 10:11Canoy. Shanada, I think we talked about this
- 10:14one on Before Dark. Yeah. But we do have a little
- 10:17bit more news. There will be some undercard features.
- 10:22This is just from the press release. Ricardo
- 10:24Sandoval is a maybe. Joshua Edwards, Ruslan Abdullayev,
- 10:30Caden Griffiths, and Grant Flores. So, busting
- 10:36out the B squad. Yeah. Like I said, I do not
- 10:43care about Joey Kanhoye. Sorry. No, that's fair.
- 10:48I'm not moved by Joey Kanhoye. It's not the fight
- 10:51we want. Neither of the fights that we want.
- 10:55Yeah. But pound for pound star Oscar Corazzo.
- 11:00Pound for pound. Pound for pound star Phenom.
- 11:07Against nobody, though. That's the problem. That's
- 11:11the, yeah. A little bit of pound for pound discussion
- 11:15on the Patreon minutes before we started. Oh,
- 11:19yeah. Interesting drama. Shanada, we talked about
- 11:24this one as well. Norair McAleon is looking to
- 11:28fight Jai Obataya. However, WBC has ordered a
- 11:33mandatory defense against David Benavidez. The
- 11:37WBC has said if Norer Mikaelian schedules, if
- 11:43the fight with Opataya becomes official, he will
- 11:45be stripped. And it looks like Mikaelian Opataya
- 11:49is in advanced stages of negotiation. This is,
- 11:54um, see, this is like classic WBC bullshit, but
- 12:00also... I get why. You have to make a concerted
- 12:06effort to shut Zufa out. That looks like exactly
- 12:10what's happening. The tactic itself on paper
- 12:15is like usual WBC, you're going to fight who
- 12:17we want you to. And it has been used maliciously,
- 12:21like when Sergio Martinez got stripped for wanting
- 12:24to fight, if I recall, Sebastian Zubik, and then
- 12:27they let Chavez Jr. fight the same guy. for the
- 12:32vacant title. So that's the same thing here,
- 12:35but here it makes a lot more sense because you
- 12:38want to keep Zufa out of it without opening yourself
- 12:41up to a lawsuit for stripping him for no reason.
- 12:47Here, at least, it's like, oh, they're enforcing
- 12:51a mandatory and it's... It looks legitimate enough.
- 12:57I still think Michaelian's going to drop the
- 12:59belt to fight Jai. Well, Zufa's going to offer
- 13:03him an enormous payday, and the marketing is
- 13:08totally going to be, he took the better opponent,
- 13:12and Benavidez is ducking Obitaya, even though...
- 13:15Word on the street is Benavidez allegedly turned
- 13:19down a fight with Obitaya. Why would you go to
- 13:24Zufa and make that fight? Yeah. Well, and then
- 13:30Zufa's also going to spin it that Michaelian
- 13:33is putting the Zufa belt above the WBC. Yeah,
- 13:37but there's a whole... Even though, like, realistically,
- 13:42Opetai is the one that he wasn't good enough
- 13:44to move up to heavyweight, nor could he find
- 13:47anything at cruiserweight, and then went to Zufa,
- 13:50which is the plain reality of it. Mikaelian seeking
- 13:57real glory. Yeah. Dollar dollar bills is the
- 14:04glory he's seeking. The thing is that for Mikaelian,
- 14:08it's a guaranteed loss either way. You got no
- 14:11shot at actually winning against either guy,
- 14:14so you're going to go for the biggest dollar
- 14:15amount. He's got a better shot against Obataya.
- 14:19That too. Because I'm like, if he had a shot
- 14:21at winning either... you probably target the
- 14:24unification against the bigger star. Yeah, but
- 14:28that's just going to be an ass -kicking. Yeah,
- 14:32but with Opitaya, he's vulnerable. He's looked
- 14:36vulnerable before. He's looked very vulnerable,
- 14:39and in ways that, like, anyone can exploit. And
- 14:44you're going to take that enormous bag you're
- 14:48presented with, because, okay, you lose. You're
- 14:52basically in the same spot you were before, which
- 14:54is some guy at cruiserweight who will get in
- 14:57line for a belt again. Because there's not...
- 15:00There's not that many cruiserweights. I can't
- 15:04even say it's top -heavy. There's just no...
- 15:07There's not even a semblance of depth. There's
- 15:09like six guys that keep rotating through it.
- 15:12You might see him against Badu Jack for the WBC
- 15:14in another year. When he loses that fight, like...
- 15:22So you guys mentioned that Michaelian is taking
- 15:26the higher -paying option, but he's with Don
- 15:30King. He's not going to get paid, right? Oh,
- 15:35I know. But the number that Don King's going
- 15:38to present him, that he's going to be presented
- 15:40with, is going to be big. It's still better than
- 15:41what he could have been. He was never going to
- 15:44get either in that case. Yeah. To be fair, I
- 15:49also question, you also have to question anyone
- 15:52who signs with Don King in this day and age.
- 15:55You can feel bad for them, but you can't, like,
- 15:58not blame them at this point. Yeah. It's like,
- 16:03it's ironic that he's fighting Opitaya, who also
- 16:06appears to have not read anything he was given.
- 16:11Or, like, Twitter. He just didn't read. The IBF
- 16:16sent him a notice and then he just didn't read
- 16:18it. Like a written notice. He just did not read
- 16:23it. So, you know what? Two guys who have proven
- 16:26inability to read. Yeah. Here's a notice that
- 16:35says if you continue with the track you're going
- 16:38down, we're going to take the belt away from
- 16:40you. This doesn't apply to me. If you sign with
- 16:45the organization Fuck the Belt and fight Brandon
- 16:47Glanton, we're gonna strip you because you're
- 16:49not fighting a ranked opponent. Signs with organization
- 16:52Fuck the Belt and fights Brandon Glanton. Get
- 16:56stripped. Makes perfect sense. Shock Pikachu
- 16:59face. Yeah. Look how they massacred my boy. Like,
- 17:08guys, it's just... So, like, you know what? To
- 17:11be fair, Benavidez has way more options. Yeah,
- 17:16the cruiserweight division is his oyster at this
- 17:20point. Yeah, like, it runs through him, and honestly,
- 17:24even if he takes, like, let me look at the cruiserweight
- 17:27rankings, because there's guys that, like, they'll
- 17:30take a pack of Jolly Ranchers to fight. C -Slack,
- 17:34I think, is the... Yeah, Pappin, I think Vito
- 17:37Reilly's... the IBF mandatory. He is set to face
- 17:42the winner of David Naika and Floyd Masson. Yeah,
- 17:48so if you just... You take one of the guys who
- 17:51are at the upper end of cruiserweights, you can
- 17:54get paid a fine. Because especially in the UK,
- 17:58if Riley wins that, the UK will totally toss
- 18:02a bag for a Mexican guy to come over for their
- 18:06guy to give it a go. like it'll happen it'll
- 18:11happen or um oh shit oh shit indeed oh you bastard
- 18:20um anyways i was gonna say um he can just come
- 18:25back down the light heavyweight and take out
- 18:27a ranked guy there too because realistically
- 18:31the timeline isn't oh cruiserweight the timeline
- 18:34is when does b -ball get out of what he's doing
- 18:39Yeah, the oligarchs are not going to pay for
- 18:42Beeble versus Benavidez. They want the intra
- 18:46-Russian shit. Yeah, so he's just got to wait
- 18:49that out and then he'll get his shot at Beeble.
- 18:52And honestly, if he can't get a good fight at
- 18:55Cruiserweight, he should move back down and fight
- 18:57Callum Smith. So that way there's zero way for
- 19:01Beeble to get out of it. There's zero room for
- 19:05it afterwards. Yeah, take that mandatory slot
- 19:09away from Calvin Smith. Take that mandatory spot.
- 19:11You have the profile. And the WBO is big about
- 19:18their champions moving divisions and getting
- 19:22title shots. Yeah, so you can just keep going
- 19:25back and forth. Yeah. Honestly, a good gimmick
- 19:29for Benavidez if he's... if if he's just if he's
- 19:34out of options is just go undisputed at both
- 19:36weight classes it's a funny at the same time
- 19:39fucking realistically all he has to do to make
- 19:42light heavy weight is go on a diet or lack thereof
- 19:45for cruiserweight i still laugh whenever i think
- 19:51about the uh the Phoenix Suns jersey that had
- 19:54300 on it, and they gave it to Benavidez. They
- 19:57presented it to him at a game, and Benji, he
- 20:01was like, oh, look, they have his weight, his
- 20:03walking around weight on it. They have his weight
- 20:04on it. Oh, Jesus. With BOMAC, they need four
- 20:09digits on that for BOMAC, though. I was thinking,
- 20:12I was thinking of making a joke about the family
- 20:15-sized Cheetos Puffs when I was like, lack thereof
- 20:17for Benavidez's diet. Yeah. Oh, that's rough.
- 20:22But yeah, the world is Benavidez's oyster, and
- 20:24frankly, I don't think... I think Opetai is going
- 20:30to get out his... He's just going to be left
- 20:32on the outside looking in. He's going to get
- 20:37the chair in the corner. Yeah. You know, maybe
- 20:41he moves up to heavyweight and fights Lorenzo
- 20:43Coley in like three years on Zufa. He's got F
- 20:48.A. Ajagba on his... Radar if he's going to stay
- 20:51in Zufa. Think of where Akoli's headed after
- 20:58the drug test failure for his first real fight.
- 21:01He's headed for Zufa. Totally wasn't cheating
- 21:03with HGH. No, it was my torn bicep that had already
- 21:08healed by the time I started using HGH. Makes
- 21:12more sense than eggs. I think it was in the beard.
- 21:19It's the glue they use to keep the beard on for
- 21:21Conor Benn. You know, it comes on and off. Yeah.
- 21:28All right. I got all of the results from the
- 21:32most recent IBF convention. They have ruled on
- 21:37all their mandatories and final eliminators.
- 21:41So we're going to start at the Shenandoah weights
- 21:43and work our way up. With the shinada weights.
- 21:49So at strawweight, the champion is Pedro Tataran.
- 21:52His mandatory is Dian Xing Zhu. And that is due.
- 21:57They have to have a deal in place by July 26th.
- 22:01What the hell is Adam Pedro doing with a belt?
- 22:08Let's see. Junior flyweight is Tanong Saximshri.
- 22:14And there is a fight between Reggie Suganob and
- 22:18Sivanati Nonchinga as a final eliminator. Flyweight
- 22:26champion Masamichi Yabuki, he's facing Rene Calixo
- 22:30on the 6th. And the day one mandatory of the
- 22:34winner is Miel Fajardo. That's going to be a
- 22:38banger fight. I don't care what anyone says.
- 22:43Ooh, Superfly. We've got Willie Baldo as the
- 22:46champ. He's facing Andrew Maloney on the sixth,
- 22:50and his day one mandatory of the winner is Siko
- 22:54Ngotole. No, Andrew Maloney's the good one. Never
- 23:01mind. Yeah, he's the better one. The better one.
- 23:04Not good. Not quite good. Sorry. And Bantamweight
- 23:10champ, Jose Salas. The final eliminator has been
- 23:14determined. I didn't catch who it was. 122. Champ
- 23:20is Inoue, of course. Ryosuke Nishida versus Sam
- 23:24Goodman are requesting an interim title fight
- 23:27as they wait to see what Inoue wants to do. Give
- 23:35me Nishida in that. Yeah, I'm taking Nishida
- 23:39for sure. Give me Nishida. He's got that dog.
- 23:43Featherweight champ, Angelo Leo. Final eliminator
- 23:47to be determined because the one dude, Rai Salim,
- 23:50came in about two pounds overweight. Didn't even
- 23:54try. Yeah, he didn't try to cut. He didn't go
- 23:59back for a second attempt. No, didn't even try.
- 24:02At 130, Nav is the champ. Jackson England versus
- 24:07Sultan Zuharbek for the final eliminator. I don't
- 24:12know either of those guys. I don't either. Never
- 24:15heard of them. Lightweight. Go on. Jackson England
- 24:20is 19 -3 from Australia. Of course. And Sultan
- 24:26Zarbek is a Kazakh 20 -0 guy. Both have fought
- 24:33in their home country and in the UK. Nothing
- 24:39notable. IBF against IBF, I guess. They got to
- 24:44play the game to get the belt. You do the dance,
- 24:47you get the shot. Yep. At lightweight, we've
- 24:52got Murataya as the champion. He has a defense
- 24:56against Robson Konseisao on the 1st of August.
- 25:00In July, there will be a final eliminator between
- 25:03Andy Cruz and Albert Bell. We looked at this
- 25:07one, Shinoda. Albert Bell is... He's like a domestic
- 25:10level dude. Nothing really stands out from his
- 25:14record. At 140, the title is vacant. Lindolfo
- 25:21Delgado versus Arthur B. Arslanov are going to
- 25:25be fighting for the vacant. I'm not mad about
- 25:28that. Oh, but will you be mad about welterweight
- 25:34champ Lewis Crocker? He's facing Liam Parrow
- 25:38on June 24th. Patty Donovan is the day one mandatory
- 25:41for the winner. Oh, my God. I am mad about this.
- 25:45I need Liam Parr to get rid of these fools. These
- 25:49two have been holding up for the IBF, literally
- 25:51just trading, like, having IBF title shots and
- 25:55eliminators for, like, the past two years. It's
- 25:58getting annoying. It's actually getting annoying.
- 26:04Junior middleweight, that's 154. Josh Kelly is
- 26:08the champ. He has a defense against Ajiark Cowan.
- 26:12I think his name is spelled like cow mean, but
- 26:15it's fucking Kevin Ajiarko in July. Bakram Murtazaliev
- 26:21and Brandon Adams are having a final eliminator
- 26:24for the day one mandatory of the winner. Hilarious
- 26:30turn of events with this belt at 154. Because
- 26:36you are telling me that Brandon Adams has a very
- 26:39good chance at a title shot before Virgil Ortiz.
- 26:48Like, that's like dead ass. You're telling me
- 26:55all of these people got title fights for Virgil
- 27:02Ortiz. That's great. The middleweight title is
- 27:07vacant. Aaron McKenna versus Edenosa Oleja for
- 27:11the vacant title. Amari Jones is the day one
- 27:15mandatory for the winner. Kind of over 160. I
- 27:20can't lie. This is kind of dreadful even for
- 27:23160. Is it worse than 147? Let's see. At least
- 27:28147 has a guy who will clean it up. Like, Liam
- 27:31Parra wasn't half bad. This is like, ooh. This
- 27:36is 160. Still pretty dreadful. At super middleweight,
- 27:44Oslis is the fucking champ. Ain't nobody want
- 27:47to see him. Diego Pacheco versus Troy Williamson
- 27:50for the final eliminator for the Mando. That's
- 27:55going to be a loss for whoever. Yeah. Oh, no,
- 27:59you don't want to win that. Nobody wants to win
- 28:02that fight. The light heavyweight champ is Beeble,
- 28:08and he just faced his mandatory Michael Eifert.
- 28:13Yep, he certainly faced him. Eifert certainly
- 28:19was present in the building on that day. He was
- 28:23facing towards Dimitri Beeble. He was looking
- 28:28at him, for sure. In a boxing ring, there was
- 28:30three minutes passed by. And then he went back
- 28:35to the corner for a minute. 12 times though.
- 28:4012, exactly. There was a boxing match scheduled.
- 28:48Cruiserweight is vacant. We talked about this
- 28:51just a second ago. Vidal Riley, he is to face
- 28:55the winner of David Naika versus Floyd Masson.
- 28:57And that's going to be the winner of that versus
- 29:01Vidal Riley. That's your championship fight.
- 29:04And Usyk at heavyweight, Frank Sanchez is his
- 29:07mandatory. Usyk's dropping that belt. No way
- 29:12he bothers with Sanchez. Frank Sanchez is an
- 29:15easy peasy one, though. Yeah, that's why I don't
- 29:19want to see it. Worth no money. Frank Sanchez.
- 29:23God damn it. You know what? We're going to get
- 29:26to it. We're going to get to it. I have some
- 29:30fun stuff to say about Frank Sanchez because
- 29:32this is a really funny turn of events. Honestly,
- 29:36I think this is going to be a Tama Sanchez for
- 29:38the vacant. Like, fully real. It's going to be
- 29:45a Tama Sanchez. Well then, let's get to that
- 29:53stuff really quickly. If you want to join us
- 29:56in the chat, LVX .BE slash Discord. We're always

- 30:58keep it a buck with you. After spending six years
- 31:00in the military and throughout my life since,
- 31:03I've tried my fair share of energy drinks. All
- 31:05the different brands, all the different flavors,
- 31:07and it took some time to find a favorite. But
- 31:10if you're looking for an alternative to the energy
- 31:12drink jitters and skipping the morning trip to
- 31:15the coffee shop, then you need to try Dubby.
- 31:18Dubby is a powdered energy drink that replaces
- 31:20other caffeine beverages. It contains zero maltodextrin,

- 33:20bit in the process. That's lvx .be slash s -o
- 33:25-u -l. Alright, into the recaps. First things
- 33:31first, Goldenboy on DAZN at the SAP Center in
- 33:34San Jose. There were some interesting outcomes,
- 33:37but nothing really stood out. Like, nothing was
- 33:41particularly special. Darius Fulgham, KO3 over
- 33:46Joanki Urrutia. Robin Zafar, split decision.
- 33:51Jordan Panthen, the Patriot, gets a stoppage
- 33:54in three over John Rivera Pacheco. Scrappy Ramirez,
- 33:59UD. over Lucas Fernandez. And Amari Jones, IBF
- 34:05mandatory, KO3 over Vincenzo Gualtieri. Honestly,
- 34:12the card wasn't bad. It was good. I was pretty
- 34:14pleased. It was, like I said, nothing really
- 34:20was memory creating. The matchmaking is a little
- 34:25weak, but it was fun. That's what you would expect
- 34:29with the golden boy. No, but the matchmaking
- 34:32could be weak and they could be a bunch of iffy
- 34:35decisions instead of a pretty brisk card. It's
- 34:40more boxing. We like boxing. They're not cared
- 34:45by pro box matchmaking here. It's no pro box.
- 34:48Nothing will ever be pro box. Not that level
- 34:51of matchmaking. Only pro box is pro box. There's
- 34:54two ends of the spectrum. Probox and then Eye
- 34:58of the Tiger. Eye of the Tiger is anti -Probox.
- 35:03Absolute dog shit fucking matchmaking. Very carefully,
- 35:07absolute dog shit. The irony is my favorite Canadian
- 35:12fighter is the only one matched competitively,
- 35:15but that's because they keep trying to feed him
- 35:18to undefeated guys and he keeps winning. Who's
- 35:21that? Logan Cloutier, they tried to feed him,
- 35:25like, to every Canadian champ, like, every guy
- 35:27they like that they were trying to push in, like,
- 35:31a three -weight class radius, and he's beaten
- 35:33them all, which is really funny that those are
- 35:36the only competitive fights on these cards because
- 35:38they expect him to lose. They want him to lose.
- 35:41They want him to lose so bad. They made him move
- 35:44up two weight classes to fight Thomas Chabot
- 35:47for, like, the lightweight title and just, nope,
- 35:51one -way traffic. I don't know. Tasman fighters
- 35:55are, I think, worse. You can never do worse than
- 36:02an Aussie. Those are, I think, on par with...
- 36:06They're on par. On the bad level. What does the
- 36:11famous saying go? Never count on an Aussie. Yeah,
- 36:15but a Canadian doesn't even make it to the world
- 36:17title shot. That's the thing. They don't make
- 36:19it. No, no, we got Steve Claggett. I win this.
- 36:22What are you talking about? Didn't Steve Claggett
- 36:24just get knocked out? That was a limiter, too.
- 36:28Hey, what about Lennox Lewis, guys? Lennox Lewis.
- 36:33Who claims him? Everybody, dude. Detroit, Canada.
- 36:38Detroit, Canada, the UK, Jamaica all claim him.
- 36:42Okay. He's a real man of the world. Man of the
- 36:47world. Well, see... Born in Jamaica, came to
- 36:50Canada, grew up here. Won us a gold medal. Won
- 36:54us the gold medal. Went to the UK to start his
- 36:57professional career and ended up linking up with
- 37:00Steward with Manny in Detroit. He's a crunk man.
- 37:07He is a crunk man. He's probably the very best
- 37:11crunk man. Very best crunk heavyweight. That's
- 37:16a better answer. I was going to say, I was thinking
- 37:18of Hearns, but I was like, yeah, Hearns. Hearns
- 37:20is the Kronk band. Glory at Giza on DAZN. Holy
- 37:30shit, what a spectacle. And what an interesting
- 37:34run of events they had. To start us off, we had
- 37:39Bastet Mizuki Hiruta, the WBO super flyweight
- 37:44champ. Got a UD over my Soliman. Soliman was
- 37:48fucking game. A lot better than I was... I thought
- 37:51she was just coming in to get her ass kicked.
- 37:55But Soliman fucking... She put up a good fight.
- 38:00Tough, strong. I'm interested to see more of
- 38:04her. Very fun woman's fight. We now say goodbye
- 38:07to Mizuki Hiruda as she is... Gabi food? Going
- 38:12to fight Gabi. One loss isn't going to end her
- 38:17career. Well, that's more the ground beef that
- 38:21Gabby's going to turn her into than the loss,
- 38:24but we salute her. Her outfits were always crazy
- 38:28good. Will she still be cute after Gabby's finished
- 38:30with her? Of course. Her cuteness is 90 % personality.
- 38:36That's true. You're right. You're absolutely
- 38:39right. That being said, we still salute her for
- 38:41her service. We honor your sacrifice. She ain't
- 38:46dead yet. You know who is dead? We're not going
- 38:50to salute her after. She's not going to see it.
- 38:52You know who is dead? Richard Torres, knocked
- 38:56out in two by Frank Sanchez. Goodness gracious.
- 39:02I did not expect it to go this way. I really
- 39:07thought Frank Sanchez, being a Cuban 33, I thought
- 39:11that meant he was more like 43. And with his
- 39:14recent knee issues, I didn't think that his like
- 39:18older body was going to be able to get over it.
- 39:21But proven wrong. I think I'm thinking Torres.
- 39:27I saw the first thing I hopped on Twitter that
- 39:30morning and I saw someone post Richard Torres
- 39:33fight day. And it was him ducking into a shovel
- 39:38hook and getting laid the fuck out as an amateur.
- 39:42And I laughed at it, and I moved on with my day.
- 39:44And then I saw him ducking down into the same
- 39:47area, like zone, during the fight. I was like,
- 39:51oh my god, the tweet was prophetic. Was that
- 39:53Jalalov that did the... Yes. Both times. Both
- 39:58times. Sanchez saw that too. They were definitely
- 40:03training to hit him doing that. Then I saw Torres
- 40:08start doing the same thing where every time he
- 40:10just, no matter what, duck into that same zone.
- 40:13And I was like, oh my god, the tweet. Then it
- 40:16happened. And I was like, oh. The hook didn't
- 40:19even hit that hard if you saw the replay in the
- 40:22close -up. Like... It's just that he... He ducked
- 40:28into it. Right on the button. Yeah, that's what
- 40:31I'm saying. Sanchez threw that as a get -off
- 40:34-me punch and more... It evokes that... It evokes
- 40:42that Tyson's very white knockout where he threw
- 40:46a very everyday shot to word it correctly. And
- 40:52it... connected cleanly and took him out. It
- 40:58was a perfect shot. I mean, honestly, I mean,
- 41:02after seeing Torres, Torres already started the
- 41:05fight and he was doing that. And once I saw that,
- 41:08I knew it was kind of pretty much over. Because
- 41:11this guy, I mean, as much as you want to, as
- 41:13much as we shit on Frank Sanchez for being an
- 41:15old Cuban, he's still an experienced Cuban who
- 41:18knows these things. Eddie Reynoso was saying
- 41:21in the corner, like, his exact, not exact words,
- 41:26but like the, to paraphrase, it was like, he
- 41:30keeps ducking down this same way. So make, watch,
- 41:33wait for him to do that dumb fuck move and then
- 41:36throw a shot right there. Who trains Richard
- 41:40Torres? I think he's with Bomek. Bomek now. For
- 41:45this one. Oh, my God. You know what? Having seen
- 41:48it his whole career, I'm assuming it's just a
- 41:50habit when the lights are on him. Eric says Lubin
- 41:57had the same habit. It's only happened with Torres
- 42:01in, like, his big fights. Like, the lights...
- 42:05It's definitely something mental that gets him
- 42:08reverting into that. Because, like... It was
- 42:11whatever youth, like, world championships and
- 42:15the amateurs that Joe Love iced them the first
- 42:17time. It was the Olympics, and it was here under
- 42:22the lights. I'm going to be honest. I have never,
- 42:25I can't remember a time where I wished if I had
- 42:28a Pop Dirty for PEDs than I did for Frank Sanchez.
- 42:33I just hope that it may be used on something,
- 42:38dude. That's old man strength. You saw how far
- 42:42back his hairline was. That's old man strength.
- 42:45I just wish it wasn't Eddie getting the win.
- 42:48Yeah, I'm confused, though. Do you guys see the
- 42:52picture? He looked like Fat LeBron. The one where
- 42:57Davil said, stop the cap. He's only 33. Yeah,
- 43:01that one. And I'm just like, what is LeBron doing
- 43:04here and not Cancun, bro? Oh, God. Took a break
- 43:10from Cancun. Yeah. I mean, honestly, with the
- 43:14leisure that he took out Richard Torres with,
- 43:17you might as like, yeah, I believe it. Oh, my
- 43:23God. Well, this fight was the catalyst for one
- 43:27of the one hour fucking breaks that we had to
- 43:30deal with. I'm so glad that we got to sit through
- 43:34that. Great show running, guys. Jack Catterall.
- 43:38I love Chris Mannix. I know. I love hearing him
- 43:40talk about bullshit. Jack Catterall, UD over
- 43:47Shakram Giyasov. Jack Ron is... He's still there.
- 43:55You know what? The Philly Cat's got the moves,
- 43:57dude. Philly Cat's still around. Philly Cat's
- 44:00got the moves. I think he could have stopped
- 44:02this guy. He could have. He should have. pushed
- 44:07it a little more. If he had Bozy telling him,
- 44:10like, get the fuck to work. Yeah, like, if he
- 44:14just go, just push a bit more. I'm not sure if,
- 44:17it might have been something that was conditioning
- 44:19because he did travel. He went from Philly back
- 44:22to the UK to train for this and then here, so
- 44:24it could have been a conditioning thing where
- 44:26he just couldn't get settled and do as much road
- 44:29work as he might have liked to because it seemed
- 44:33like he was pacing himself. But also, you don't
- 44:35need to pace yourself when you just get the fuck
- 44:37out of there. The referee was pretty keen on
- 44:40stepping in if he just put a bit more on him.
- 44:45When did he get the KD? Was it round one or two?
- 44:49I think it was one. It was one. One. It was one.
- 44:55All right. It was one, but I'm like, he had him
- 44:57rocked since round one, and Yasov just did not.
- 45:00So it seemed like a pacing thing where, like,
- 45:04rather than willingness or being gun -shy or
- 45:08just not being able to. He had a very economical
- 45:13output. Imagine being Mando for so long only
- 45:18to lose to Reform Brit. I mean, it happened to...
- 45:22Fuck, there was a guy that Cody Crowley beat
- 45:25before Cody Crowley retired the Duck Boots. who
- 45:33was the IBF mandatory for ages. I can't hear.
- 45:39Kudratillo Abdukarov. Yeah, Kudratillo. Yeah,
- 45:45he was the IBF, and he kept taking, like, step
- 45:49-aside bunnies so Spence could go fighting guys.
- 45:53And then Crowley just washed him the same way.
- 46:01So that was Donair Gabayo. But this happened.
- 46:06I'm so sad. But it's like it does happen. And
- 46:10it's not uncommon for an IBF mandatory to sit
- 46:12on that for so long that they. Someone was good.
- 46:17This is WBA. You know, surprised it kind of went
- 46:22through with that, considering how they are.
- 46:24Well, they they recreated the regular title for
- 46:27this. Thank you. Yeah, it's a bunch of bull.
- 46:30Thank you, Roley. Roley's a super champ? Yep.
- 46:35Really? He's a super champ, and he's in recess
- 46:38because he's retired at the same time. It's great.
- 46:41That's funny, guys. It's like making Teal. It's
- 46:43like making Devin Haney the, what do they do?
- 46:46The fucking global champ or something? Or what
- 46:50was between Loma and Teal? They made Loma the
- 46:52franchise champion. Oh, the franchise champion
- 46:54bullshit, yeah. We love that, guys. It's a non
- 46:57-transferable title, except for that fight with
- 47:01Teofimo Lopez. We love this, guys. We love the
- 47:04WBA. We love the WBC. We can never do any wrong.
- 47:07Hey, that's fair. You know what? I'm on board
- 47:10with some WBC hate. We already defended them
- 47:12enough this pod. With that cruiserweight. We
- 47:16already gave them enough grace. They deserve
- 47:20hate. All the hate in the world. Do you hate...
- 47:25Hamza Shiraz for getting that KO2 over Alan Begich.
- 47:29No, I hate the WBO for not finding anyone better.
- 47:33Nah, fuck you. I still hate Hamza Shiraz. We
- 47:37do not like Hamza Shiraz himself. Adamas is moving
- 47:39up to 168. They could have a rematch for Shiraz's
- 47:42belt. Shiraz is not fighting any live meat besides
- 47:45Canelo. That's what they're saving him for. They're
- 47:48gonna cash him out like that. That would make
- 47:52sense for what Turkey wants to do. Bayday? Bayday?
- 47:56You want Bayday? Adamas. Adamas is... Adamas...
- 48:00An Adamas rematch at 168 is also a very fun fight.
- 48:06And... It's not like Turkey doesn't like Adamas
- 48:11as one of his action figures either. Yeah. So...
- 48:16Alright. On to our main event, or... The one
- 48:21I was like, oh lord. Oleksandr Usyk stops Rico
- 48:26Verhoeven in 11. At the end of the 11. The dying
- 48:32seconds of round 11. I'll start this by noting
- 48:37that Usyk is 39. And he won. The referee claimed
- 48:45that because of the crowd noise, he didn't hear
- 48:50the bell. He would not have stopped it if he
- 48:55had heard the bell. That's fair. Also, did you
- 48:59see how Rico got slumped in that knockdown? Oh
- 49:03yeah, face down, ass up. Honestly, pretty restrained
- 49:09for a British referee to not just step in and
- 49:12wave it off on a knockdown that was that. That
- 49:17looked like that. And he threw his mouthpiece
- 49:21out, given a bunch of time. Yeah, he got like
- 49:2440 seconds to recover. So, you know, it was a
- 49:30two -way street of... I will say that I think
- 49:36if the fight had not been stopped, if Rico had
- 49:41been sent to his corner, and even if he got his
- 49:43full minute, I still think Usyk would have stopped
- 49:46him in the 12th. I disagree. I think, honestly,
- 49:54you wouldn't be able to tell. Again, I don't
- 49:58know how his recovery is in boxing, but from
- 50:00what I've seen in kickboxing, what I've heard,
- 50:02he has great recovery. He's been knocked down
- 50:05and gone off the canvas and won fights. With
- 50:09the worst knockdowns. Yeah, but there's a difference.
- 50:12All those worst knockdowns have happened early
- 50:15in a fight and not in the 11th. I don't know.
- 50:19I mean, again, you're never going to know. We
- 50:21could throw it back and forth all day, but we're
- 50:24never going to know. I'm of the camp of just
- 50:27being a hater. I want to see the world burn.
- 50:31Two of the scorecards were tied going into the
- 50:3511th. With the knockdown, there's no way. Yeah,
- 50:39no, there was always going to be a kangaroo quarter
- 50:41fight. The knockdown, that's it. That was the
- 50:45fight, whether you stop it or not. Before that
- 50:48knockdown, though, I mean, come on. We got to
- 50:50talk about the elephant in the room, though.
- 50:52We got to address this. Were you scoring the
- 50:55fight round by round, or as Leo said, it vibes?
- 50:58I was vibe scoring. Yeah, vibe scoring, it's
- 51:02more competitive than if you went round by round.
- 51:06Well, my thing, even though if you scored round
- 51:07by round, no matter what, this guy should not
- 51:10have been even remotely close. He was overweight.
- 51:17He didn't train for the fight. How can you train
- 51:18for a guy that has no tape in boxing? You know?
- 51:22I'm going to give him, you know, some amount
- 51:25of excuse, but come on. Was that a Discord person
- 51:26talking about tape or whatever? Tape? What do
- 51:31you mean? No, not you. I'm not saying it was
- 51:33you, but... No, someone on the Discord was. I
- 51:35just, honestly, I think... I don't even think
- 51:39Usyk underperformed that. bad we oh come on dude
- 51:43don't give me that bullshit we put him on this
- 51:46ridiculous pedestal when like every other like
- 51:52remotely like good or great historically or even
- 51:56in this era they'll fight an inferior opponent
- 51:59and they'll they actually lose and they look
- 52:02way worse I don't know, dude. It was a pretty
- 52:08bad performance, no matter what way you look
- 52:09at it. Yeah, Uzi showed up fat as shit and looked
- 52:11terrible, and he still, you know, wasn't as bad
- 52:15as other historical bad performances. I mean,
- 52:18compared to the Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou
- 52:20fight, I mean, at least Uzi wasn't knocked down,
- 52:23but that's such a low bar. I mean, the bar I'm
- 52:26also setting is Dubois getting knocked down and
- 52:30having his ACL torn by Kevin Moreno. Who had
- 52:35no credentials before that fight. At all. In
- 52:39any sport. You're not wrong here. So like if
- 52:44we're looking. And most guys. Most guys historically
- 52:48at heavyweight. At 39 are out. Like they are
- 52:51not. They're not even losing to like. People
- 52:57who are good at. Like they're losing to scrubs.
- 52:59That they're supposed to beat. At least for me,
- 53:03the way I see it, I don't think the age is necessarily
- 53:06relevant. It's not relevant to the point where...
- 53:09Uzi was fat. He was out of shape. He just wasn't
- 53:14prepared for what he was going to face. He thought
- 53:16he was going to get in there and knock him out.
- 53:18A lot of the discussion I see online is about
- 53:20where he sits historically. And it's like, guys
- 53:24usually aren't holding on to world titles at
- 53:2639. It's a new thing. It's a pretty new thing.
- 53:32And guys aren't confidently holding on to world
- 53:35titles at 39. I still got Usyk against majority
- 53:41of the people. The majority of the guys. Top
- 53:45five all time still to me. Still very. Like the
- 53:49way I saw it was a thought. I shared this with
- 53:51Leo beforehand, but there's a thought experiment
- 53:53I saw on. NBA Twitter recently where you with
- 53:58every all -time great you cut their first their
- 54:00worst playoff series because it's not representative
- 54:05of what their body of work actually entails yeah
- 54:09it just looks like this is always going to be
- 54:11an asterisk on his on his resume well I don't
- 54:15know like do you consider do you consider like
- 54:18like if you look at Ali's body of work do you
- 54:22consider Trevor Burbick and Chuck Wepner and
- 54:25Leon Spinks as, like, this is going to affect
- 54:28his legacy things? Or do you go, like, that was
- 54:31a bad performance? There's a big difference.
- 54:35There's a big difference, though. Yeah, he lost
- 54:37two of them. No, but the big difference is that,
- 54:40I mean, obviously his health was a lot more deteriorated
- 54:43than how Usyk is right now. Muhammad Ali, by
- 54:46the end of his career, was even Muhammad Ali.
- 54:48No, but, okay. So, Burbick, we can... Burbick
- 54:51is the one we scratched. Burbick and Holmes we
- 54:53scratched, but Leon Spinks was still... Yeah.
- 54:57That's the last one. 7 -0. Younger than Usyk
- 55:00is right now. Losing against a similar opponent
- 55:04with, like... Because everyone points at the
- 55:08Olympic gold medal, but it was a very weak Olympic
- 55:11class that Spinks won from. He had seven fights
- 55:14against Bums. I don't even know how he got that
- 55:18damn fight. He dominated Ali. I genuinely wonder
- 55:23what the discourse was back then regarding that
- 55:24fight. Like, what the fuck, 7 -0? You gotta be
- 55:28fucking kidding me. Oh, we love Leon Spinks.
- 55:30He's the worst brother. Leon was the worst brother.
- 55:34Yeah. Michael Spinks was the better brother the
- 55:38whole time, so you're just... Worst relative.
- 55:40You got Corey Spinks, too. What's worse? Rico,
- 55:43whatever, all -time great in a combat sport who
- 55:46comes in and still gets stopped but has, like,
- 55:49a competitive performance, or this 23 -year -old
- 55:54who has fought nobody and has, like, a gold medal
- 55:58during the apex of Olympic corruption and, like,
- 56:01tomfoolery, shows up and dominates your guy for
- 56:0515 rounds, claims that belt. Because... That
- 56:11was the WBC being like, yeah, we'll rank him.
- 56:14Why not? Or, I mean, Mike Tyson was out of the
- 56:21sport at this age, if you're going to go for
- 56:23popular examples. Riddick Bowe was out of the
- 56:25sport. Vladimir Klitschko was dominating nobody's
- 56:32at this point. Yeah. Like, Holmes will, like...
- 56:38was like... Holmes was also dropping belts at
- 56:41this point. Like, it's... I don't think... I
- 56:47think the discourse is very disingenuous with
- 56:49Usyk because Leo made a good point pre -pod about
- 56:52how nostalgia affects how people view heavyweights
- 56:55and heavyweight historical discussion more than
- 56:58like... the reality. Actual in -ring performances.
- 57:02Yeah. Because the reality of heavyweight is that
- 57:05it is never... as it is the pinnacle of our sport
- 57:09spectacle and entertainment -wise because they
- 57:12are giants among men, but they are not the most
- 57:17skilled fighters and haven't been for a very
- 57:19long time in this sport. Y 'all talking about
- 57:23Joe Frazier, huh? No, I'm talking about how the
- 57:26second talented lower -weight fighters appeared,
- 57:29the term pound -for -pound was coined. It's the
- 57:35second, like the very second we got talented
- 57:37lower weight fighters. Like, that's the discourse.
- 57:42Because, yes, size will always dominate, but
- 57:45these guys are clearly better. The second Sugar
- 57:50Ray Leonard popped up on the scene, that whole...
- 57:53Yeah, but Sugar Ray Leonard brought it back,
- 57:56though. Because after Sugar Ray Robinson, then
- 57:58you had the heavyweights take over. And for 20
- 58:01years, I mean, you can't really name... But even
- 58:04then, you still look at old time per pound lists,
- 58:07and it's like, heavyweights are there for strength
- 58:10of resume, and then you have the lower weight
- 58:12guys who are eye test. And it's something that
- 58:16speaks to how good Usyk is, that these discussions
- 58:21are had over him in ring with his skill, rather
- 58:28than old heavyweight discussions. Since he's
- 58:34a heavyweight, he is going to be burdened by
- 58:37nostalgia rather than the reality of him being
- 58:41an actual pound -for -pound guy at heavyweight.
- 58:47That's facts. So, yes, he was fat as shit, and
- 58:51it was a bad performance, and he should feel
- 58:54bad about it. Will Caballel wash him in three
- 58:57rounds? Absolutely not. You got people definitely
- 59:01thinking that, though. Oh, people are going to
- 59:03think that, and I think this is a... Cavalier,
- 59:06again, I'll go on the Cavalier rant one more
- 59:09time about how this is a very Dillian White 2018
- 59:11run. Because he beat up a bunch of guys who were,
- 59:19like, on the fringe of getting a shot, but were
- 59:21never really going to get one. I mean, he beat
- 59:25Mark Rudolph, he beat Frank Sanchez. I mean,
- 59:29he did beat decent guys. Yeah, but so did White.
- 59:32White beat Joseph Parker and Oscar Rivas. I'm
- 59:38not trying to knock down Dillian White. No, but
- 59:41I'm saying this is a very similar type of run
- 59:43where he beat names that look good but aren't,
- 59:47like, exceptional in ways that weren't particularly
- 59:51out of this world, that were more the flaws of
- 59:54the guys he was fighting. I mean, he was throwing
- 59:58– I mean, we've got to be honest, too. Cabellos
- 1:00:00was really throwing as, you know, food for Makhmudov.
- 1:00:04Well, yeah, he was – White was the rebound for
- 1:00:07Joseph Parker after losing to AJ, and Rivas was
- 1:00:09an exciting Colombian prospect that Eddie Hearn
- 1:00:12just signed. Yeah. So it's – I mean, yeah, I
- 1:00:15see a comparison. Yeah, it's a very – It's a
- 1:00:16very similar run. Cabellos is a lot smarter than
- 1:00:22White is and will not throw it away against Povetkin,
- 1:00:24the Povetkin type. He's going to sit on his title
- 1:00:28shot until he gets it, but it's still going to
- 1:00:31be about as embarrassing. I mean, do we really
- 1:00:36think that Capito is going to get that shot,
- 1:00:37though? Because I don't. Well, the options are
- 1:00:41kind of limited for Usyk. Usyk can just go fight
- 1:00:45whoever he wants. Remember what we said, he can
- 1:00:47fight easy fights at this point. He doesn't have
- 1:00:49to take hard fights. He doesn't have to. He can
- 1:00:50make the same amount of money. See, the thing
- 1:00:53is, it's going to be real funny when, like, see,
- 1:00:58I prefer the path that Usyk embarrasses him and
- 1:01:01retires, right? But if we're being real, he's
- 1:01:08going to get that vacant title shot, or he's
- 1:01:11just going to get it, and then he's going to
- 1:01:12have to fight someone who is actually belonging
- 1:01:16in that space instead of a fringe contender.
- 1:01:22And it's not going to look competitive. Because,
- 1:01:25yes, the stoppages look impressive. But you have
- 1:01:30to remember that the boxing acumen, this is still
- 1:01:32the same guy who had to ban Chisora's team from
- 1:01:36entering the country to get a leg up on him.
- 1:01:43This is still the same guy. And the thing is
- 1:01:49that I feel like Andy Ruiz... is a very, like,
- 1:01:53Povetkin at that moment type opponent. Where,
- 1:01:57okay, he's on the wrong end of 30, he's washed
- 1:02:02up, he hasn't had, like, a meaningful fight in
- 1:02:05a bit. Like, Povetkin K was coming off, had,
- 1:02:08like, a two -year layoff after getting sparked
- 1:02:10out by AJ. Or, no, he beat Huey Fury with a very
- 1:02:18laborious decision. I'm not taking that into
- 1:02:22your wee slander, dude. Was Alexander Pavetkin
- 1:02:25on Jimmy Fallon tonight? Come on, go. Come on.
- 1:02:29Alexander Pavetkin would have knocked out Jarrell
- 1:02:32Miller. Hey, he didn't have a pizza joint. Alexander
- 1:02:37Pavetkin never got caught on a YouTube channel,
- 1:02:40like, scarfing down XL pizzas while in training
- 1:02:44camp. So I'm saying, like, they're a very similar
- 1:02:47type of, like, I'm not saying they're bad, but
- 1:02:50I'm saying they're not well -regarded at this
- 1:02:52point in time contenders. Down to the left contender
- 1:02:57who needs it. 100 % agree. There's a non -zero
- 1:03:00chance, especially because, like, let's be real,
- 1:03:03Caballel's chin is not... Like, it's not what
- 1:03:09everyone perceives it to be. It's not indomitable.
- 1:03:14Like, the shot that Zang caught him was not,
- 1:03:16like, a typical, like, Shane catches you clean
- 1:03:20shot. It was a very, like, glancing. Like, just
- 1:03:24grazing type of shot, huh? Clipped him, he went
- 1:03:27down. You saw the rounds that Chizora won when
- 1:03:30he fought him were Chizora hurting him with the
- 1:03:33same old sloppy stuff. So, you know. Is a lot
- 1:03:38of what Kabayel, what people rate Kabayel to
- 1:03:43be a tough challenge for Usyk, is it all age
- 1:03:45-related? Because that's what it seems like to
- 1:03:47me. Age and the made -up, like, Usyk is weak
- 1:03:51to body shots thing. When I'm like, we watched...
- 1:03:56We already watched this meme happen at Cruiserweights.
- 1:04:01Right? Like, it's been a meme for years that,
- 1:04:04like, oh, Usyk's weak to body shots because,
- 1:04:07like, Braindust gave him trouble. But Braindust
- 1:04:09gave him trouble everywhere. Usyk's just weak
- 1:04:13to... Usyk's just weak to kickboxers. Everyone's
- 1:04:16weak to getting punched, I guess, right? Like,
- 1:04:20I don't know. Like, I watched Usyk. Like, Gassiev's
- 1:04:24best work, aside from, like, the right hand that
- 1:04:26everyone remembers from that fight, were body
- 1:04:29shots to try and slow Usyk down. Did not work.
- 1:04:32Bellew, same thing. And Bellew ended up gassing
- 1:04:35himself out, focusing on body shots. And, you
- 1:04:38know, the meme kind of died down because AJ just
- 1:04:41could not crack him. And then we had the Dubois
- 1:04:44low blow thing where I'm like, Hey, like, I don't
- 1:04:49care if it grazes your dick. If a guy that big
- 1:04:52who hits that hard grazes your dick with a punch,
- 1:04:55you're gonna have that reaction. Have y 'all
- 1:04:59ever been flicked in the balls? That shit fucking
- 1:05:01hurts you, dude. Yeah, because it's like, oh,
- 1:05:02it, like, flicked him and then landed a bit higher,
- 1:05:04and I'm like, dude, that's Daniel Dubois. Yeah.
- 1:05:07Flicking a dude in the nuts, like... Yeah, it's
- 1:05:10gonna hurt no matter what. So the meme is that
- 1:05:13he's weak to body shots, but also, like... Frank
- 1:05:17Sanchez's knee was falling off the joint and
- 1:05:19Mac Madoff is Mac Madoff. And I think I had this
- 1:05:26argument already with people online with Zhang
- 1:05:30because, oh, look, Zhang was taken out with body
- 1:05:32shots too. And I'm like, this guy's kidney failure
- 1:05:34because he doesn't drink water. This is also
- 1:05:39another angle that, I mean, people see Cabello
- 1:05:42as the boogeyman of heavyweight. Everybody's
- 1:05:45avoiding him. The way you described, I mean,
- 1:05:47he just beat average contenders that were also
- 1:05:52seen as, you know. Like, he was seen as a boogeyman,
- 1:05:57too. He's not. He beat solid contenders who could
- 1:06:00not cut it with that last step to getting a title
- 1:06:04shot. Like, solid B -level guys. B -level contenders,
- 1:06:07exactly. And White did the same thing. Like,
- 1:06:11again, it's the same type of run. It's just that,
- 1:06:15like, Cabell's less obnoxious about it. There's
- 1:06:18no, like, 300 days Wilder's ducking me. Like,
- 1:06:23there's no... It's basically all Usyk hate, because
- 1:06:27with White, it was British fight fans. It was
- 1:06:30how in your face him being the mandatory was.
- 1:06:33It was Wilder hate. Like, there are many factors
- 1:06:39that led to that situation being what it was,
- 1:06:41but this is... Just the low key. Low key, like,
- 1:06:45it's less in your face, but it's the same, like,
- 1:06:49it's a very paper contender who, you know what,
- 1:06:53Cabell might actually pick up the belt once Usyk
- 1:06:55lets him go. Because that's the difference between
- 1:06:58being in a transitionary period instead of right
- 1:07:01in the middle of an era. But do we sincerely
- 1:07:04believe he beats Usyk or Dubois or Atama? No.
- 1:07:15All right. We got to keep rolling. Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:19Last words for Gloria Giza. I got to say it was
- 1:07:24a beautiful event. I hate Riyadh season shit.
- 1:07:28I hate it with passion, but, man, that was legendary
- 1:07:31to see fighters fight in front of the pyramids.
- 1:07:35That was pretty damn cool. Bye. What do I gotta
- 1:07:41say? I need this commentary crew to stop it.
- 1:07:46I'm done. Apparently Top Rank picked up Corey
- 1:07:50Erdman for their stuff. Good. Put the Top Rank
- 1:07:53broadcasting crew on the zone. I'm sick of this.
- 1:07:57If I gotta listen to Sergio Mora for an hour
- 1:08:00straight with no fights in sight, I'm done. Sergio
- 1:08:04Mora's not even that bad. I can handle Sergio
- 1:08:08Mora. I can't. There's all three of them. You
- 1:08:10put Grisham, Mannix, and Mora. It's the same
- 1:08:13table. Then you go like, okay, so Mizuki Haruda
- 1:08:16just fought. The full decision, full 10 rounds.
- 1:08:20Get ready to wait an hour and 20 minutes. The
- 1:08:24male pre -mannix. That's boxing commentary. Mora
- 1:08:27and Mannix just snip at each other the whole
- 1:08:29fucking time. Oh, my God. We love the writer
- 1:08:33and the fighter, though, right? Oh, boy. Oh,
- 1:08:37boy. Listen to it every week. I was on Twitter
- 1:08:40today, and I saw Tony Harrison be like, they
- 1:08:43need to give us an option to mute commentators.
- 1:08:48Sergio Mora is too much for me. That's what he
- 1:08:51said. And Mora responds with like, yeah, you
- 1:08:55wish you had the professional career I did. Your
- 1:08:57greatest achievement was training Alicia Baumgartner.
- 1:09:01And I'm like, do you know what your own boxing
- 1:09:04career was? I would take Tony Harrison's career.
- 1:09:09Yeah, I'd rather. Wow, he won the contender and
- 1:09:13then, like, Tony Harrison has a win over Jermell.
- 1:09:21And actually won, like, world titles. I mean,
- 1:09:25I gotta say, he's a Latin snake. Come on, guys,
- 1:09:28come on. It's the Latin snake we're talking about
- 1:09:30here. The legendary Sergio Mora. the latin snake
- 1:09:35who was losing the vernon forest in 2008 okay

- 1:12:55pro box in here. Yeah. It's never a bad weekend
- 1:12:59in pro box. Starting on Thursday, June 4th, Eye
- 1:13:03of the Tiger at the Montreal Casino. The headline
- 1:13:07is Albert Ramirez versus Lerone Richards. The
- 1:13:11super soldier, Imam Katsayev. He's back. We had
- 1:13:16that mind -to -mind connection because I was
- 1:13:18like, Captain America's right here. Yeah. That's
- 1:13:24about all I got on this one. What do you got?
- 1:13:27I have a highlight here. Wyatt Sanford is fighting
- 1:13:32on this card. He is Canada's first Olympic medalist.
- 1:13:35It's basically Lennox Lewis. Woof. Definitely
- 1:13:39worth keeping an eye on. Doesn't matter. So he's
- 1:13:41worth keeping an eye on. He's worth keeping an
- 1:13:43eye on. He's fighting Juan Pablo Uruguay from
- 1:13:48Uruguay, who is not great. But he's definitely
- 1:13:54a guy you are going to see in the IBF rankings
- 1:13:58eventually. Especially at lightweights. Especially
- 1:14:03as lightweight empties out. You're going to see
- 1:14:08it sooner than later because he's also 27. You'll
- 1:14:12see him fight for the mandatory spot. Sam Noakes,
- 1:14:16probably. Yeah. He's probably going to have to
- 1:14:19go through Sam Noakes for that. I mean, it's
- 1:14:23Sam Noakes. It's a name to recognize rather than
- 1:14:27a name to follow. Keep an eye on it. Yeah, we
- 1:14:31keep track of a lot of fighters on here. That's
- 1:14:35your new job, Josh. You got to keep letting us
- 1:14:37know about updates on that guy. On Sanford? You're
- 1:14:41going to see him on every Eye of the Tiger card
- 1:14:43until he either loses or gets a title shot. That's
- 1:14:47usually how they build their guys. Bazran was
- 1:14:50basically headlining these things until he got
- 1:14:52smoked in that WBC Grand Prix tournament. And
- 1:14:56now he's on a no -name promotion, unfortunately.
- 1:15:01So that's just how it goes for these Canadian
- 1:15:03prospects. Friday, June 5th, ProBoxTV. At the
- 1:15:10College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. I don't
- 1:15:15really recognize any of these people, but it
- 1:15:18doesn't really matter. Because with ProBox, you
- 1:15:20get competitive fights. That's all that matters.
- 1:15:27Saturday, June 6th. Starting with... She's not
- 1:15:31here anymore. Shanada Card. Kameda Promotions
- 1:15:35on Abima. At the Aichi Arena. In no shit, Aichi,
- 1:15:40Nagoya, Japan. We don't need Shinada for this
- 1:15:44one. This one's pretty fun. It's a pretty damn
- 1:15:45good card. I'm just going to list them all from
- 1:15:48the bottom up. Shurioka vs. Adilet Kachkinbekov.
- 1:15:54I think I got that right. Seya Meguro vs. Nozigit
- 1:15:58Duyashbev. Fuck. I'm not nailing it. Aoi Yokoyama.
- 1:16:08This is a good prospect here. Older prospect.
- 1:16:12Versus Vince Paras. Masamichi Yabuki. We talked
- 1:16:15about him earlier. Versus Rene Calixo. Willy
- 1:16:20Baldo Garcia. Talked about him too. Versus Andrew
- 1:16:23Maloney. Those are two IBF title fights. Kenneth
- 1:16:29Lover versus Michael Angeletti. This is an IBF
- 1:16:33final eliminator. at 118 and headlining Luis
- 1:16:36Neri versus John Riel Casimiro. Neri Casimiro
- 1:16:45is going to be a good fight. That's going to
- 1:16:47be a shootout. I don't have a lot of faith in
- 1:16:51Casimiro at this point. Oh, I don't either, but
- 1:16:54it'll be a fun for as long as he's around. Yeah,
- 1:16:59I suppose. You gotta think of fun value for this,
- 1:17:04because realistically, both guys are not going
- 1:17:06to do much else. No. You never know. He might
- 1:17:12just take it. Casemiro's pushing 40, and Neri
- 1:17:16is wrong into 30. I've seen Casemiro have spurts
- 1:17:23of success in his recent fights. You never know.
- 1:17:28We also saw him get washed by Kameda. flashes
- 1:17:32of success yeah flashes of success i think i
- 1:17:37think it'll be fun i just don't think both guys
- 1:17:40are gonna amount like this is this is a fight
- 1:17:42that would have been great like five years ago
- 1:17:44don't expect skill um no no just uh bombs i'm
- 1:17:50i'm thinking nary bombs them out I forget which
- 1:17:54one. Who was the one who was banned from Japan
- 1:17:55until Inoue fought him? Neri, right? Yeah, I
- 1:17:59was shocked they have Neri headlining a Japanese
- 1:18:01card. They love him now. No, they don't love
- 1:18:06him. No one loves him. Who's the one that fought
- 1:18:09Inoue and they love now? Fulton. Never forget
- 1:18:14Fulton when he was fighting Foster. Japanese
- 1:18:18boxing user KKK Boxing cheering on Fulton. My
- 1:18:23funniest tweet. One of my all -time great tweets.
- 1:18:30Moving to Matchroom on DAZN at the Sheffield
- 1:18:35Arena in the UK. Who do we got on here? Leo Atang
- 1:18:40versus Fuad Shaili. Should be a good time. Well,
- 1:18:46alas. Atang is a bit of a bomber. Other than
- 1:18:52that, we've got the People's Electrician, Joshua
- 1:18:54Padley versus Aqib Fias. I can't even jokingly
- 1:19:02gas up Padley anymore now that we've watched
- 1:19:04Zach Shelley take his spot as the real working
- 1:19:09class man in the UK. The chairman of the proletariat,
- 1:19:15Zach Shelley. Yeah, Zach Shelley has usurped
- 1:19:18Josh Padley. This whole card is cursed, dude.
- 1:19:25Two headliners, gone. It's a hard one, yeah.
- 1:19:29It's a tough one to get through. I think, yeah,
- 1:19:34no. That's what I have to say. I thought I'd
- 1:19:37have more to say. I don't got much more for that
- 1:19:40one either. I don't have a lot for Zufa Boxing
- 1:19:437 at the Burnamuth Center in Burnamuth. The main
- 1:19:50portion of the card will be Steve McKenna vs.
- 1:19:53Casey Streeter. Jack Massey vs. Shavon Clark.
- 1:19:58McKenna, Streeter's middleweight. Massey, Clark,
- 1:20:01cruiserweight. And Chris Billum -Smith vs. Ryan
- 1:20:04Rozicki, also at cruiserweight. Trying to get
- 1:20:08a fight for Obitaya. Yeah, he needs opponents.
- 1:20:14I kind of want... See, I want Ruziki to win.
- 1:20:20Not because I'm patriotic. No, never get that.
- 1:20:23Never get the impression that I'm being patriotic
- 1:20:26here. I want him to win because he's such a lame
- 1:20:29opponent for Opitaya. He's a very lame... At
- 1:20:33least with Billum Smith, you can pull the...
- 1:20:36Oh, he beat Akoli. He beat Glanton. He beat Akoli.
- 1:20:41He only lost to Zerto. He's a worthy cruiserweight.
- 1:20:47Roziki, there's no such thing. This is a lame
- 1:20:49duck who competes in a very solid decision. Respect
- 1:20:53the hate. I need another... I just need a lame
- 1:20:59duck opponent for Opitaya. Roziki's a good one.
- 1:21:05Roziki's a really good one because he will not
- 1:21:08push the pace. He just does not have it in him
- 1:21:11to push the pace against a better opponent. And
- 1:21:16these cards are already lame as hell. So having
- 1:21:18to watch the commentary debase themselves further
- 1:21:22at a lame fight is... It's the entertainment
- 1:21:26you get out of it. I don't have much to say on
- 1:21:32this card. It's... We have a... We... All of
- 1:21:37us, we have like a semi -professional obligation
- 1:21:41to sort of pay attention to it. But, like, I...
- 1:21:45Know that while I will be watching, I'm just
- 1:21:48here taking notes. It's in protest. I'm entirely
- 1:21:53against SUFA and everything they stand for. And
- 1:21:57also their cards suck. But it's boxing. Boxing.
- 1:22:03We do boxing. That's our thing. Right. We're
- 1:22:06like crack addicts. We'll do good crack and we'll
- 1:22:09do bad crack. Until Leo lets us do basketball
- 1:22:11and lacrosse coverage. If you can find basketball
- 1:22:16people to talk about it with you, I'm here for
- 1:22:19it. We're doing the boxing. I actually have something
- 1:22:24that I need to pose to you guys. Notifications.
- 1:22:30Okay. This was something that got asked on Mastodon.
- 1:22:38No kidding. When I posted a little clip of our
- 1:22:43podcast. About Benavidez fighting Canelo. And
- 1:22:49how I had said. Or we were talking about how
- 1:22:52they're being like a really. The fans clearly
- 1:22:56demanded it. Because like the fans in the arena.
- 1:22:59We were talking about paying customers. Canelo
- 1:23:04fans are going to come to watch any fight he's
- 1:23:07in. And Benavidez fans are. clearly in demand
- 1:23:12for a Canelo fight. And so here's this post from
- 1:23:17At Fight Score. Is there really a demand for
- 1:23:22Benavidez to fight a smaller Canelo? Shouldn't
- 1:23:25he fight top contenders his size, Jai Apataya
- 1:23:29or Noir Mikaelian, perhaps? You're really going
- 1:23:35to tell me that Mikaelian is more interesting
- 1:23:39than Canelo? Well, I mean... The outcome's the
- 1:23:45same. It's not an interesting fight, but I mean,
- 1:23:46come on. It's in its weight class. You want to
- 1:23:50see a domination? That's going to be a domination.
- 1:23:52Okay, but Canelo has won belts and challenged
- 1:23:55for belts at 175. This is not new. Kovalev was
- 1:24:00big at 175. Like... Um... Callum Smith is an
- 1:24:07active contender at 75. I genuinely, like, yes,
- 1:24:12the fight is largely an exercise in just watching
- 1:24:15Canelo get the paste beaten out of him. But,
- 1:24:18you know, sometimes those fights just kind of
- 1:24:23have to happen. We saw it with Roy Jones' later
- 1:24:27career that he chose to have. But I think the
- 1:24:30more sticking one is how Bernard Hopkins' last
- 1:24:34two fights went, where he fought Kovalev and
- 1:24:36Joe Smith Jr. I thought his Bebut Shumanov performance
- 1:24:42was fucking good. I couldn't finish that one.
- 1:24:51No, you could. Like, I don't know. I think Canelo,
- 1:24:55like, it's something that, like... It's ugly,
- 1:24:59and you don't want to admit it, but the ugly
- 1:25:01passing of the torch is a tradition. And honestly,
- 1:25:06Canelo has avoided that moment to a point where
- 1:25:11it is no longer viable in his favor, and that's
- 1:25:13his fault. Canelo did say in a recent interview
- 1:25:18that he wants to pass the torch to Munguia. He
- 1:25:22just wants McGee to go die to Benavidez instead
- 1:25:25of him. He just doesn't want to give it to a
- 1:25:28good Mexican fighter. He's going to give it to
- 1:25:31McGee and he's going to move up to 75 because
- 1:25:33he's a fat fuck and Benavidez is going to hurt
- 1:25:37him in the mulch. They don't like each other.
- 1:25:42It's a very good rivalry that, again, partial
- 1:25:47blame on Benavidez. How did you lose a WBC title
- 1:25:51twice? But there were better contenders than
- 1:25:58John Ryder. And Rocky Fielding. Rocky Fielding
- 1:26:06was technically for the WBA regular so he could
- 1:26:08challenge Smith. There was a purpose there, but
- 1:26:12I'm saying in that post -Plant era, Golovkin
- 1:26:173, not needed. Berlanga, Munguia, Ryder, like,
- 1:26:23there's all these names that, like, it easily
- 1:26:25could have been Benavidez and you still would
- 1:26:27have been, it still would have been not an exercise
- 1:26:31in futility, you know? Now it's more of a respect
- 1:26:36to the fans and respect to the actual next guy
- 1:26:39up. I will be clipping this and sending it to
- 1:26:45fight score. Especially because he is, this guy
- 1:26:49is, Still competing for belts at 168. He is still
- 1:26:55relevant. Let's be real. He'd be at 175 full
- 1:27:01-time if he beat Bivol. He might even be higher.
- 1:27:07He was flirting and fighting Makabu at Cruiserweight.
- 1:27:11So he probably could have beaten Michaelia, who's
- 1:27:15the guy who knocked Makabu off. Or, no, it was,
- 1:27:19uh... Well, Mikaelian beat Badoo Jack and Makabu,
- 1:27:21but... The point is, it would have been... This
- 1:27:26discussion is entirely, like, a choice from Canelo
- 1:27:29past the Kayla plant, but... It's been a choice.
- 1:27:38And now that it's kind of the last, like... For
- 1:27:43Benavidez, it's that last step to being that
- 1:27:45transcendent guy, and for Canelo, it's pretty
- 1:27:48much the last viable opponent that will make
- 1:27:52the money he kind of commands in this Twilight.
- 1:27:59He kind of has to. He no longer has the choice
- 1:28:03to prolong it without it being more of a discourse.
- 1:28:12Because now we've reached the point where seven
- 1:28:16years of his career have been dominated by Benavidez
- 1:28:20discussions. Is this his Pacquiao? No. This is
- 1:28:29his... This is... This is like if... I'm trying
- 1:28:36to think of an example. This is like if Holmes
- 1:28:39just never fought Michael Spinks. Or if Hopkins
- 1:28:44never fought Tito Trinidad. This is his guy that
- 1:28:52he just showed up all wrong for you when you
- 1:28:59were age -wise, timeline -wise, all wrong for
- 1:29:03him. And not everyone can be Bernard Hopkins
- 1:29:08who stops the guy. two weeks after 9 -11. Like,
- 1:29:14it's not, again, I'm never saying, I'm never
- 1:29:20going to say it's a fight that will be competitive
- 1:29:21or makes competitive sense, but it's just the
- 1:29:25way Canelo has prolonged it that you've made
- 1:29:31your bet. You've stalled as much as you can.
- 1:29:34Here it is. This is your last viable opponent
- 1:29:36before you retire. Pretty much. As Pauly put
- 1:29:42it before people stopped giving a shit. Yeah.
- 1:29:46Because, listen, the public put up with Berlanga
- 1:29:51and Munguia and Ryder. And at this point, not
- 1:29:57only are they fed up, Benavidez is that viable
- 1:30:00opponent. They didn't even put up with Skull.
- 1:30:04That was... That's when people really started
- 1:30:06leaving. Oh, man. And Golovkin 3. Not even Golovkin
- 1:30:123, mainly Skull. He's named, like, five or six
- 1:30:15guys that are, like, all, like, these are not
- 1:30:19acceptable opponents. Golovkin 3 was somewhat
- 1:30:25passable, though. Because it was immediately
- 1:30:27after the Dimitri Bivol fight. But now Canelo
- 1:30:30is the Golovkin. Yeah. now he's on the other
- 1:30:35side of that fence and it's it's just it's not
- 1:30:41something that he wants I don't think he ever
- 1:30:45wanted he to have this be the kind of crossroads
- 1:30:53he's at where it's basically retire or fight
- 1:30:55Benavidez cause You're still relevant, but you're
- 1:31:02still... Like, if he was on that retirement tour
- 1:31:05where he just took, like, celebrity fights, like,
- 1:31:10if he fought a guy from the UFC and Jake Paul
- 1:31:12and maybe, like, a popular... A kickboxer? Fringe.
- 1:31:17That's what I mean. If you're on the retirement
- 1:31:18tour, you're on the retirement tour, but he's
- 1:31:20fighting for the WBC belt. I guess it's Nbili.
- 1:31:24He clearly wants to have another go at it. Yeah,
- 1:31:28so, and the thing is that if he didn't, if he
- 1:31:30beat Bivol, he'd be at cruiserweight. He was,
- 1:31:33there were Usyk talks in that era before Bivol
- 1:31:39put a halt to it. So, it's something that if
- 1:31:45Turkey puts the money up, it'll happen. And,
- 1:31:48you know, looking back at Canelo's career, you'll
- 1:31:51question why it didn't happen when he was actually
- 1:31:53capable of pulling out a win. I don't think that
- 1:31:58fight's ever happening, dude. I'm sorry. I don't
- 1:32:00think so either. Even if they put $400 million
- 1:32:05on the table, dude, Canelo really doesn't want
- 1:32:08to do that. He doesn't need the money at this
- 1:32:10point. No. His pride trumps over it. I don't
- 1:32:15think it'll happen either, but I think it'll
- 1:32:17be a major... You're going to look back at Canelo
- 1:32:21and a third of his career will have been Benavidez.
- 1:32:25as someone he just never faced. I feel like,
- 1:32:32no, I disagree on that. It's been seven years.
- 1:32:35That is a third of his career that has been spent
- 1:32:38avoiding Benavidez. I understand, yeah, it seems
- 1:32:43like now, but in the future, it's going to get
- 1:32:45brought up 100%, but I don't think that's going
- 1:32:47to be the main focus that people are going to
- 1:32:48really get him on. No, because his career...
- 1:32:51People are going to throw tinted glasses. His
- 1:32:53career has three phases, but the three phases...
- 1:32:57Mayweather, Bivol, and Crawford. The three phases
- 1:33:00each have their own conversations. Like, getting
- 1:33:03fried by Mayweather, whatever, right? But it's
- 1:33:08mainly the next two, where you have the controversy
- 1:33:11with Golovkin, and you never get a decisive win
- 1:33:14at this point in time. And then you transition
- 1:33:19into that phase that is now... like after beating
- 1:33:23plant it's a third of his career and it's the
- 1:33:25most visible third of his career because that's
- 1:33:28when he ran boxing as the face of it so i don't
- 1:33:33think like it's like yeah i will say it's like
- 1:33:37it leo like he never fought pacquiao basic mayweather
- 1:33:39never fought pacquiao in terms of like what you
- 1:33:45think of when you think of that phase of his
- 1:33:47career where he runs the show Well, Mayweather
- 1:33:51never fought Winky Wright. People sometimes bring
- 1:33:55it up. Yeah, but he didn't run boxing at that
- 1:33:57point. It was when Mayweather was the face of
- 1:34:02the sport. Like, every guy has an opponent when
- 1:34:06they're the face of everything that they usually
- 1:34:09end up fighting. Late 2000s, Mayweather ran the
- 1:34:12sport, though. But there was still, like, it
- 1:34:16was once you hit that showtime era when, like,
- 1:34:20Yeah. I got you. When he didn't actually need
- 1:34:24to care about who he fought, basically. And the
- 1:34:28thing is that he fought enough guys in that era.
- 1:34:30He fought Kodo, Mosley, Winky Ray, whatever.
- 1:34:35It's the one that got away. It's not at the very
- 1:34:38peak of your powers where you run the entire
- 1:34:42sport. You don't fight this guy. I mean, people
- 1:34:48don't bring up the Riddick bow. What do you mean?
- 1:34:52Riddick bow throwing that belt in the trash can
- 1:34:55is... No, no, no. Sorry, not Riddick bow. It's
- 1:34:57called... It's not Riddick. What's the name?
- 1:35:10It came up blank on me. I'm trying to think because
- 1:35:14I agree but the thing is that all these guys
- 1:35:16fought each other even way too late. Like if
- 1:35:21you think of Tyson Lewis it happened way too
- 1:35:24late but it happened ever. And it happened at
- 1:35:27a time when Tyson was no longer competitive which
- 1:35:29is I think a good analog to what's happening
- 1:35:32here. It's just... Like, it's something that
- 1:35:39will dominate the discussion about the stretch
- 1:35:42of his career because it's the most visible.
- 1:35:46And unfortunately, yeah, people have nostalgia,
- 1:35:50but that nostalgia is a problem when you're an
- 1:35:54outlier, historical outlier for the negative.
- 1:36:03Like, if you're the one guy who even at the end
- 1:36:06of your career never fought, the guy everyone
- 1:36:09wanted you to fight, then that's going to be
- 1:36:16your career. Well, with that listener comment,
- 1:36:23we are going to head out. We're heading into
- 1:36:29Kameda weekend. I think that might be the best
- 1:36:33card we got. Pro box. Pro box on Friday. Kameda's
- 1:36:37on Saturday. Parting words. Stay up. Watch Probox.
- 1:36:43Stay up for Kameda. Sleep in and then go for
- 1:36:46a walk. Don't watch the rest of it. Nope. Do
- 1:36:52not pay for the rest of it either. If you are...
- 1:36:55My parting words are just... Fuck Zufa. I'm so
- 1:37:00sorry, Richard Torres. Rest in peace. That shit
- 1:37:04got me sad. Richard Torres rudely obliterated
- 1:37:08before Virgil World title shot. Nah, dude. That's
- 1:37:13fate. I'm not going to fall for that rage bait,
- 1:37:15dude. You sent me a Discord message being like,
- 1:37:18you're so lucky I can't respond right now when
- 1:37:22I made the joke earlier. Oh, I got mad over that
- 1:37:25one. I was like, motherfuckers, dude. They know
- 1:37:28I can't fucking respond to this shit. I was like,
- 1:37:31fuck. I was like seething behind the... Behind
- 1:37:35my fucking mic. Just with the news we got, the
- 1:37:39IBF convention, their rulings on mandatories
- 1:37:42and shit, there's actually some decent fights
- 1:37:44coming up for IBF. They're not all terrible,
- 1:37:48as IBF tends to do. And the Matchroom 5x5, the
- 1:37:56Matchroom -Queensbury 5v5 rematch. That's pretty
- 1:38:00cool. So that's going to do it for this edition
- 1:38:06of the Boxing B -Sides. Man, we had a little
- 1:38:10bit of a panel shuffle there, but we will be
- 1:38:14back on the other side of Pro Box and Kameda.
- 1:38:32How do you want to convince them to watch MMA
- 1:38:34instead? Or not instead, but just to start watching
- 1:38:37MMA. I'm going to go, like, a different route
- 1:38:41than Nathan went. I'm going to go with, first
- 1:38:44of all, I think MMA has more frequent watchable
- 1:38:48events. You know, there's some weeks in boxing
- 1:38:52where it's, like, it's either super degenerate
- 1:38:54or, like, no names, whatever. I think in UFC,
- 1:38:57there's, like, it's slightly better at times.
- 1:39:00And then... the big big point it's just more
- 1:39:03hectic i think mma at times is just more hectic
- 1:39:06you're seeing stuff from street fights all the
- 1:39:09way to like movie type fights uh you know you
- 1:39:12got roundhouse kicks uh straight up like bar
- 1:39:14fights at times uh you just you get a wider range
- 1:39:18of enjoyable fights i i would say um and then
- 1:39:24just like i don't know it's just it's more enjoyable
- 1:39:27the fact The fact that at times you get to see
- 1:39:29just guys like standing and banging, it's just
- 1:39:32more primal in a way is what I'd say. That's
- 1:39:36how I would try to convince like boxing only
- 1:39:38fans that it's just more if you enjoy chaos.
- 1:39:42We saw it in the Wild Riches or fight. If you
- 1:39:44enjoy that type chaos, you know, because that
- 1:39:47wasn't exactly like a bunch of technique in that
- 1:39:49fight. But if you enjoyed something like that,
- 1:39:51I would definitely try out MMA just because.
- 1:39:56At times, there is high -level things, and that
- 1:39:59is incredible to watch. People like Mauricio
- 1:40:01Hufi, you're seeing incredible knockouts with
- 1:40:04kicks. But even the lower -level stuff can be
- 1:40:08enjoyable, with people just going to town on
- 1:40:11each other, standing and banging. That'd probably
- 1:40:15be the driving point that I would say to boxing
- 1:40:18-only fans, is that if you enjoy that chaos,
- 1:40:21I would say definitely give MMA a try. If you
- 1:40:24like chaos, I like that. If you do decide to
- 1:40:28give MMA a shot, well, you can check out Ultimate
- 1:40:30FN Casuals. You can hear us chat about all the
- 1:40:33fights that happen every weekend, just like on
- 1:40:36the boxing side.
