- 1:37Speaker 3: from back in the day. And look at you now,
- 1:40Speaker 3: you're still don't what you do.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Let's talk about thank you. Let's talk about this food girl.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Patty's Good Life. The live features eight hours. I know
- 1:48Speaker 1: the feature eight hours because your boy was shopping this morning.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I went to Walmart I live in Atlanta.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Okay, this is what I got because I'm gonna be
- 1:57Speaker 1: celebrating because you know, it's like, what's a cool way
- 1:59Speaker 1: to give her a gift, to show that I'm thinking
- 2:01Speaker 1: about it, to show of love. So what I'm gonna do?
- 2:04Speaker 1: I said, perfect, you know I'm gonna go. I went
- 2:06Speaker 1: and bought him this morning. This was I bought.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I bought.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I found the macaroni and cheese. It's made well, I'm
- 2:10Speaker 1: gonna tell everybody what it's made with the extra ingreen.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's made with cheddar cheese, Monoye jack cheese, and real butter.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Then I got the beef risky stew that's.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Tended to beef brisket and hearty sauce with potatoes, corn peas,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and carrots. Then I also got the Southern style greens
- 2:27Speaker 1: which is seasoned kale with a touch of hot pepper.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you something. This is what I
- 2:31Speaker 1: really love. That you got black eyed peas, black eyed
- 2:36Speaker 1: pien with smoked turkey, sweet onions, and garlics. Right there,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm busting that box open because I also got some
- 2:43Speaker 1: of your sweet corn bread. I got some of your
- 2:45Speaker 1: sweet corn bread, and then you topped it off. Because
- 2:49Speaker 1: I came back home, my wife said I didn't know Patty,
- 2:51Speaker 1: because you know, she.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Was saying I thought she just did pies. I said, no,
- 2:53Speaker 2: Paddy got it going on. And this was opened her eyes.
- 2:58Speaker 1: When I pulled out the Okra stew with oprah, tomatoes
- 3:01Speaker 1: and sweet corn, she said, that's it.
- 3:04Speaker 2: She would shut up. Patty got Okrah I said.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Patty got Yes, that's one of my favorites.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yes, And then you know you purchased and you're still
- 3:15Speaker 1: doing the things that you want to do. The majoity
- 3:17Speaker 1: you give to people, explain that, to explain that that
- 3:21Speaker 1: that that love for you have a life, Patty on
- 3:23Speaker 1: my show and tell people.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I guess, I guess it's because of my mom and dad.
- 3:27Speaker 3: They were both loving people outgoing the neighborhood and just
- 3:32Speaker 3: made people feel like they wanted to smile instead of frowning.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And with me, I noticed, you know, since I've been
- 3:40Speaker 3: performing for fifty six years and I've touched so many
- 3:43Speaker 3: people just when I hug them right, you know, or
- 3:47Speaker 3: when I smile and say something positive to them, don't
- 3:50Speaker 3: cast you enoughing to be a lister of people. And
- 3:54Speaker 3: it's natural for me, It's natural, you.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Know, which was always cool about you, Patty.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Like I was interviewing Holly Robinson Pee in December and
- 4:03Speaker 1: she was telling me I'm doing it. I'm doing a
- 4:06Speaker 1: Christmas show with Patty the bill and it was like
- 4:08Speaker 1: her voice dropped down and she was like it was
- 4:11Speaker 1: a reverence, you know, like I do. And then you know,
- 4:14Speaker 1: because I was girl, you go do something with. It
- 4:16Speaker 1: was like we all joined in into tlevel of happiness.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Girl, you're doing.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Something with Patty, you know.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And I like to believe I'm a successful person, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: we all know Holly Robinson Peter's a successful person.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But just to.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Work with you, work with you means that there's there's
- 4:32Speaker 1: something special that's about to happen, because your time means
- 4:35Speaker 1: something to us, your treasure.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Your treasure.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I appreciate that. And I really feel as that you're
- 4:42Speaker 3: telling the truth because, as I said, I'm seventy six
- 4:45Speaker 3: and I've been working for fifty six years. And whenever
- 4:49Speaker 3: I go and say that, I get this great feeling
- 4:51Speaker 3: from the audience that they're pleased to be with me
- 4:54Speaker 3: that night. Now I'm going to give them something special.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Nothing I do is pretend.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Oh no, when you start flapping those wings, now, no
- 5:01Speaker 1: flapping those wings, you know, that's like a signatshire for that.
- 5:05Speaker 1: You know she's about to do her things. She's about
- 5:07Speaker 1: to do her thing right. Those are the blessings of
- 5:11Speaker 1: being able to where.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Were you at?
- 5:13Speaker 1: What song do you? What song do you like? What
- 5:15Speaker 1: song meant something to do? You have that type of career,
- 5:18Speaker 1: that type of brand. And the reason I bring that
- 5:20Speaker 1: up because to become an entrepreneur in this level, you
- 5:23Speaker 1: know where you where you can go in your store
- 5:26Speaker 1: and like I said, I saw your face on the
- 5:28Speaker 1: box on several boxes special Yeah, and I know where
- 5:33Speaker 1: it started. You know, it started with the Sweet Potato Pie.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So let's walk us through that step of being an entrepreneur.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And when you when you go in the store sometimes
- 5:41Speaker 1: and see your box, your face on that box, talker,
- 5:44Speaker 1: tell us about that journey of being an entrepreneur.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Patty, Okay, when when? Because I've always coaked all my life,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and so at one point I said, this is my
- 5:55Speaker 3: second love, singing is first, and I should do it
- 5:58Speaker 3: and try to feed people.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
- 6:03Speaker 4: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
- 6:09Speaker 4: Conversations Masterclass, hosted by Rashaan McDonald. Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 6:15Speaker 4: continues online at Moneymakingconversations dot com and follow money Making
- 6:20Speaker 4: Conversations Masterclass on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- 6:25Speaker 3: No, I wasn't thinking about the money at the time,
- 6:26Speaker 3: but I just knew how good my food was and
- 6:28Speaker 3: I wanted people to say, well, can I have a second.
- 6:31Speaker 3: And so it started with the supernet pies and all
- 6:33Speaker 3: the sweet items m M that my mother made up.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Watch my mother and my aunt make these certain items,
- 6:40Speaker 3: and I gravitated to them cooking. Because I was a
- 6:43Speaker 3: very shy kid. I stayed at home. I never went
- 6:45Speaker 3: out and played with skids. I learned how to cook.
- 6:48Speaker 3: So that's my gift and now that I want. When
- 6:51Speaker 3: my babies were my grandbabies were in the store and
- 6:54Speaker 3: their mother took a video of them and they were
- 6:56Speaker 3: walking down the aisle said that's graab, my patty on suplicated.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I said, oh, that made me feel like my babies
- 7:03Speaker 3: are seeing my face. And I was in the store
- 7:07Speaker 3: once and saw it, and it made me feel special, honey,
- 7:10Speaker 3: just so blessed, so blessed.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And you know the real interesting thing about it is
- 7:15Speaker 1: that I remember, we won't go back to journey.
- 7:18Speaker 2: How blessings. And if you're good, I would say, if.
- 7:20Speaker 1: You treat people writing you're good people, then good things
- 7:23Speaker 1: happen to you. Because when you put your sweet potato
- 7:25Speaker 1: pie in the store, that young man decided.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Decided, he decided to taste.
- 7:34Speaker 1: And the thing about it while he was eating it,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and I'm gonna tell you so, I'm gonna tell you
- 7:37Speaker 1: how big that got.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I was in LA and it's a Fox.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Executive, white guy, white guy, Fox executive, and we was
- 7:44Speaker 1: talking about doing a TV show and he said, Rashan,
- 7:47Speaker 1: have you seen.
- 7:47Speaker 2: That Patty label video? I said, what you're talking about?
- 7:49Speaker 2: He said, sweet Potato Pie video, that's what you're talking about,
- 7:53Speaker 2: and he pulled it out. That's how deep it had gotten.
- 7:55Speaker 2: That's how viral had got.
- 7:57Speaker 3: James, I know, that's wonderful. He's one of my best friends.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I didn't know him before that. No, I was shocked
- 8:04Speaker 3: to seek the video of myself. I said, Dag, he
- 8:07Speaker 3: got it like that. He likes that pie like that.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I said, oh God, so we met and in that's history.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I mean, we're friends forever.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But that's that. That's that.
- 8:17Speaker 1: You can't buy that because once he did, the pies
- 8:21Speaker 1: could not stay in the store.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Uh huh. That's true. And at the beginning when they
- 8:26Speaker 3: went out, they were doing really well, but when he
- 8:29Speaker 3: did that thing, they weren't even more. He said, thank you,
- 8:32Speaker 3: dear Jane.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Hey, pat Patty pat I went and got a couple,
- 8:36Speaker 1: you know, I I but you had to call around,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, you just couldn't like just walk in wald
- 8:40Speaker 1: On and get right said, it's the patty pie. There
- 8:44Speaker 1: is the patty pie. Swee pretend the pie. And they
- 8:46Speaker 1: knew as soon as you call they knew, no, we're not.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They'll be in this Friday Friday. And so you can't
- 8:52Speaker 1: buy that type of market. And he gave it to you.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And the thing about it is that, you know, I
- 8:56Speaker 1: always tell people, you know, once you get an opportunity,
- 8:59Speaker 1: make sure you can deliver.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And you delivered on the.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Pie, the taste of the pie, the crust of the pie,
- 9:05Speaker 1: all that stuff.
- 9:06Speaker 2: You didn't cheat your fans.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You didn't cheat me because you know black people, you
- 9:10Speaker 1: know we can get hold of it.
- 9:12Speaker 2: If I come on black people.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I don't want nobody to beat me up.
- 9:19Speaker 2: We spent a.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Hard our money. She's just messing around that because they
- 9:25Speaker 1: would not have bought it and drove. And the beauty
- 9:27Speaker 1: of it, it happened at the right time doing that
- 9:30Speaker 1: Thanksgiving run. Oh, it was just it's just all the
- 9:33Speaker 1: stars lined up that lined up for your sweet potato pie.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Now did you came back with the peach cobbler? Now,
- 9:40Speaker 1: tell us about how did you get into this next
- 9:42Speaker 1: line that I just mentioned the macaroni and cheese, the
- 9:45Speaker 1: beef brisk.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Is stewidd Because I'm always making dinner. I'm always looking
- 9:50Speaker 3: for a certain thing to add to the chicken or
- 9:53Speaker 3: the roast ham or something. So of course my size
- 9:56Speaker 3: would have been like the green though macaroni and cheese.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I've been making that forever and everybody loves that. And
- 10:03Speaker 3: so I said, well, let's just put out a few
- 10:05Speaker 3: items and see if people. Why is this way? I
- 10:07Speaker 3: don't have to cook dinner. They don't have to buy deserves.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I mean they have to buy a dessert spine, but
- 10:12Speaker 3: they don't have to measure your own deserves. And it's
- 10:15Speaker 3: easy for women or men like you used to buy
- 10:18Speaker 3: and relax and not have to cook. Right, and all
- 10:21Speaker 3: the food is good.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Well, it's really reasonable.
- 10:25Speaker 1: That's why that's I'm telling him, because you're bore about
- 10:27Speaker 1: to start promoting.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I'm not going to be at the level of James.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Now he did some astronomical you know this product is
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, people want to just.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Go home, just put it in microway, put it in
- 10:37Speaker 2: the oven. It's some great food.
- 10:39Speaker 1: It's rare, and I guess it's a lot of food
- 10:41Speaker 1: in this package.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I'm just I'm opening yet, but I know weight. I
- 10:44Speaker 2: know weight.
- 10:45Speaker 3: I went, I know you do.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I just got some just a family serving and so
- 10:51Speaker 1: and so it was so funny that I was because
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm an old school I'm from Houston, Texas and the
- 10:55Speaker 1: country boar. I love buttermilk. I love I love for
- 10:59Speaker 1: sugar my butter milk. And so you know when I
- 11:01Speaker 1: saw that corn.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Bread girl, I said, I'm gonna get this. I'm gonna
- 11:04Speaker 2: make me some corn bread.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna put that sugar there, but I'm gonna crumble
- 11:07Speaker 1: up this good old Paddy good like corn bread in there,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and that's gonna be my dessert on Sunday. I'm just
- 11:12Speaker 1: gonna let you know.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I'm just don't you know you're gonna make that into
- 11:17Speaker 3: a dessert.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, I'm just gonna have fun because of the
- 11:21Speaker 1: fact that you have a you have. You're giving me
- 11:24Speaker 1: a gift because you've been doing it all Like I'm
- 11:26Speaker 1: gonna just shift a little gear.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Because you've been an.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Advocate for adoptions, diabetes, cancer, HIV, AIDS, and many other
- 11:34Speaker 5: causes and nonprofit initiatives. What drives that energy, Patty, I.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Was born with this. I'm I'm a total giver and
- 11:47Speaker 3: it don't cost me nothing to give what God has
- 11:49Speaker 3: given me. So I give it and with a smile
- 11:52Speaker 3: on my face and wait to be asked to do
- 11:54Speaker 3: some more stuff because I'm that girl. You know, there's
- 11:57Speaker 3: nothing that I can do for people. I can it
- 12:00Speaker 3: all we.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And I appreciate that. I appreciate you.
