- 1:08Speaker 1: back to money making conversations. I got them back. I
- 1:10Speaker 1: had them on my show last year. I'm so excited
- 1:13Speaker 1: to have this fantastic couple that happened to be married.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I love talking to power couples on money making conversation.
- 1:20Speaker 1: My next guest that's with an S. In twenty seventeen,
- 1:23Speaker 1: created an executive produced the hit docuseries Black Love on
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Oprah Winfrey Network. It premiered us the most viewed
- 1:31Speaker 1: unscripted series in the network's history. That's huge in network's history.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Please work with the money making conversations. Their husband and
- 1:40Speaker 1: wife producing duo, Tommy and Cody Oliver. Come on that
- 1:48Speaker 1: that your handuce to it, didn't it. I'm getting pretty
- 1:56Speaker 1: good at this olives. I was introducing the olive See
- 1:58Speaker 1: last year when we talked, you know you had this hit?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Now you now you got you know, you got you pictures.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You're flipping your baby and pictures and stuff like that.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Is always flipping the baby. I am I didn't know
- 2:11Speaker 1: what you're talking about. You know what I'm saying, and
- 2:15Speaker 1: I told them, they said, I gotta put that picture.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I love that picture because that's really you know, from
- 2:19Speaker 1: a standpoint of what you guys do as a couple.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It's so fun to show that, you know, that's that's
- 2:25Speaker 1: a family important to you guys, And I felt that
- 2:28Speaker 1: was something that I wanted to promote and say, this
- 2:31Speaker 1: is a true blessing to the relationship because we all know,
- 2:35Speaker 1: being married it's a hard job. And then working together
- 2:39Speaker 1: and being married, is it needed a harder job? Can
- 2:42Speaker 1: you expand? Can you expand? Uh? You know, we but
- 2:49Speaker 1: you're correct, Um, it is hard. It's challenging because we
- 2:53Speaker 1: send all stay together and that is great. But sometimes
- 2:59Speaker 1: when you hate your job for a little while, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you just want to go home to your blue bo
- 3:05Speaker 1: looking at the room and in the dark. The problem
- 3:11Speaker 1: is she really loved her husband, but sometimes she hates
- 3:14Speaker 1: her producer. That's true. I love it. I love now.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Let's let's get the business. Now, let's get the This
- 3:22Speaker 1: is why y'all on the show to promote all the
- 3:24Speaker 1: activity y'all got on the TV waves tomorrow. Motherly is
- 3:31Speaker 1: Motherly Love? Correct? It's a one hour special. They say
- 3:34Speaker 1: from the creators, that means you're doing something else, but
- 3:38Speaker 1: the black love tell us about that special tomorrow. Get
- 3:42Speaker 1: us in the same vein emotionally uplifting, positive programming from
- 3:46Speaker 1: an African American standpoint, talk to us. It's the same
- 3:50Speaker 1: vein as also, you know, the same format. You know
- 3:52Speaker 1: we have we have couples on the couch on motherly love.
- 3:56Speaker 1: We have families on a couch generations in many cases.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And uh so we've got Till Harper and his mother
- 4:04Speaker 1: and his um two year old son. We've got Air
- 4:07Speaker 1: Contina Campbell from Mary Mary and their mom and their
- 4:11Speaker 1: seven siblings, Um exactly. We have um Kopie Sirabo from
- 4:17Speaker 1: Clean Sugar with his brother's Quacy and Kwamie and his
- 4:20Speaker 1: mom um. And we've got a beautiful, amazing bow Saint
- 4:25Speaker 1: John and her mother and Grant and daughter um and
- 4:29Speaker 1: most Impo and to Sheina Arnold and her mother and
- 4:32Speaker 1: amazing sisters and they and just really talking about like
- 4:36Speaker 1: what it takes to keep your family together over decades, right,
- 4:40Speaker 1: because we do fall out with our families sometime, and
- 4:42Speaker 1: it's really about how you how you stick together. It's
- 4:45Speaker 1: really about how you support each other and the fact
- 4:48Speaker 1: that every family does it differently. You know, we have
- 4:50Speaker 1: one family that said, you know, our our mom didn't
- 4:52Speaker 1: really hug us. She wasn't really a hugger love that mud,
- 4:57Speaker 1: but I felt it love. Now you know about we
- 5:03Speaker 1: all grew up. So that shows. That shows tomorrow at
- 5:09Speaker 1: ten o'clock on Own. That's Tuesday at ten pm. It's
- 5:12Speaker 1: called Motherly Love by the producers of Black Love. Now
- 5:16Speaker 1: let's go to what made you guys famous? So what
- 5:18Speaker 1: made you too famous? Brought you into my world? Which
- 5:21Speaker 1: is even about bigger world for you guys black Love.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It says bigger, more couples, double the episodes, tell us
- 5:28Speaker 1: about it. You made history last year, so that's why
- 5:31Speaker 1: you have that promoting, because you want to make more history.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Tell us about Black Love too. We are very very
- 5:38Speaker 1: excited about the second season. He's got a lot of
- 5:41Speaker 1: fans out to people, and we're able to just dig
- 5:43Speaker 1: into more themes than you did last year because we've
- 5:46Speaker 1: got eight episodes this time around. We'll get some awesome
- 5:48Speaker 1: couples who got strong. K Brown his wife ran that
- 5:52Speaker 1: day to Me and Grant Hill, l Hughesly and his
- 5:55Speaker 1: wife with Donna La Miller and she's to have it hold. Yeah,
- 6:04Speaker 1: y'all just throwing these names out like these regular people
- 6:06Speaker 1: like it's meat. You know what I'm saying. You know
- 6:10Speaker 1: what they are. But here's there's there's the thing, you know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and this is very intentional. Everybody on the show, you
- 6:17Speaker 1: don't see profession you don't see the last name, you
- 6:20Speaker 1: don't see any of that because it's about the relationship.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It's not about what they accomplished professionally. And so once
- 6:26Speaker 1: they're on the show, they are treated like anyone else.
- 6:30Speaker 1: They're treated like every other couple. Like Godie and I,
- 6:32Speaker 1: like another regular couple, were making it work. So we
- 6:36Speaker 1: have a mix, you know, we have celebrity couples and
- 6:38Speaker 1: then we have everyday couples. And that's time you mentioned
- 6:41Speaker 1: we don't really differentiate. It's really just sharing a love
- 6:44Speaker 1: story and then sharing you know, their challenges, their highs
- 6:47Speaker 1: and their loads. But having somebody like Sterling right and
- 6:51Speaker 1: makes people want to watch and makes people like you
- 6:53Speaker 1: want to talk to us. Awful. I have a little that,
- 6:55Speaker 1: you know, because it's different than the celebrity and the
- 6:57Speaker 1: non celebrities that the celebrity lifestyles played out social media,
- 7:02Speaker 1: you know, so you can avoid attention on whether it's
- 7:05Speaker 1: warranted or warranted where an everyday person lifestyles played out
- 7:10Speaker 1: in their own the world, but it's still played out
- 7:12Speaker 1: with the same issues, you know, getting along, finances, parenting
- 7:17Speaker 1: and all and all those things are very important and
- 7:20Speaker 1: that's what is the what let me just actually, what
- 7:22Speaker 1: do you think the secret is to the success of
- 7:25Speaker 1: Black Love? You know, why people reacted and it's so
- 7:29Speaker 1: galvanized in the viewer to watch, So probably a couple
- 7:33Speaker 1: of things. But one of the things you've mentioned about.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You see the social media. You see these celebrities on
- 7:39Speaker 1: social media, but what you don't see is how they
- 7:41Speaker 1: actually make it work. You see the high the loads.
- 7:44Speaker 1: You don't actually see their commitment day in and day
- 7:47Speaker 1: out until get a glimpse into that has been really sexual.
- 7:51Speaker 1: But also, we don't as black folks, we don't have this.
- 7:55Speaker 1: We don't have these positive examples of black people being
- 8:00Speaker 1: happy and marriage together on TV, not in not in
- 8:04Speaker 1: reality TV, not in documentaries, not in film or even TV.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You know, for the longest, we had the copies, which
- 8:11Speaker 1: we don't actually have any more. Unfortunately, even and even then,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know, it was it wasn't real, and so there's
- 8:20Speaker 1: been this giant boyd that we just didn't have any
- 8:25Speaker 1: place to go to see these sorts of images. And
- 8:28Speaker 1: so I think if there's any secret to why this
- 8:31Speaker 1: is worked, it's that yeah. Yeah, here's the thing though,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm talking on the phone with Oliver's Tommy and Cobody
- 8:38Speaker 1: that Black Leve Debate is the most viewed unscripted series
- 8:41Speaker 1: in the history of their own network. The show guarder
- 8:45Speaker 1: in um in In Image Awards nomination for Outstanding Documentary
- 8:50Speaker 1: and Television and Outstanding Directed in TV or Movie Special.
- 8:55Speaker 1: So you you come out of the box. You didn't
- 8:58Speaker 1: expect this. You you just praying that you got on
- 9:01Speaker 1: TV because praying that the show. And when that happened
- 9:05Speaker 1: and the way it happened, what did it do for
- 9:07Speaker 1: your careers? I would say the most interesting thing is
- 9:12Speaker 1: that we never intentionally got into unscripted television. I mean,
- 9:18Speaker 1: it was kind of like we were just doing something
- 9:19Speaker 1: we really cared about. And having created this show, the
- 9:24Speaker 1: next thing that happened is everyone was calling, take what
- 9:27Speaker 1: else do you have? Right? Theory grout and it was like, okay,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you know, we could do this right and That's that's
- 9:38Speaker 1: really what it is all about, you know, because you
- 9:41Speaker 1: know we'll just be hustling. I always tell people as
- 9:43Speaker 1: an entrepreneur, because that's what you guys are, us two entrepreneurs.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You just happened to be entrepreneurs in the entertainment realm.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It was just hustling for this one thing. And you
- 9:50Speaker 1: just never know what it's going to be your break,
- 9:52Speaker 1: what it's going to be your moment, and when it
- 9:54Speaker 1: happens like it happens for you guys, you definitely got
- 9:57Speaker 1: to get back to the creative side and say, look,
- 9:59Speaker 1: let's put about some positive ideas that you know they
- 10:02Speaker 1: would read a longevity in this in this ward of
- 10:04Speaker 1: dry and It's so Black Love. Season two airs this
- 10:07Speaker 1: saturd airs on Saturday, mate Well ten am, nine Central
- 10:12Speaker 1: Standard Time. So Tim PM, I apologize ten pm Beaten Breakfast.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I heard Rashawn say, I know you said, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: be arguing, you know, black people arguing with each other,
- 10:23Speaker 1: he said. Babies, said TIMPM. In the news, You're shot,
- 10:29Speaker 1: babies said Tim PM. So please get that correct. Temp
- 10:33Speaker 1: M on their whole network Saturday, May twelve, Season to
- 10:36Speaker 1: a Black Love and and in wrapping this up, What
- 10:40Speaker 1: should we expect? What are you doing differently this year?
- 10:43Speaker 1: And I'm so proud of you, guys. I'm glad, glad
- 10:46Speaker 1: you both called again to promote it, and you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm gon put it on my social media. Wrap us
- 10:50Speaker 1: up with Black Love. Tell everybody why that should watch
- 10:52Speaker 1: season two because there are more episodes, more scenes, new couple,
- 11:00Speaker 1: but the same the same transparency and vulnerability that you
- 11:04Speaker 1: know to expect on the first season, and even more
- 11:07Speaker 1: in some cases. You know, guys, there is one episodes
- 11:10Speaker 1: where we've got dal Huguely who's just so open and
- 11:14Speaker 1: honest and vulnerable and just he's just sitting there bawling, bawling,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and so there's there's so much of that throughout the
- 11:22Speaker 1: season where people was giving too much of themselves. Well,
- 11:27Speaker 1: my friend, make sure you get on DL syndicated show
- 11:30Speaker 1: and promote this too. You remind everybody how emotionally it
- 11:33Speaker 1: is that I feel this is a great opportunity to
- 11:36Speaker 1: continue to grow your brains, sell your brain. Black Love
