- 0:00This shit ain't nothing to me, man. This is Boxing
- 0:03Before Dark. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Back. Back.
- 0:06Back. Back. Back. Before. Before. Before. Before.
- 0:11Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing Before Dark. This
- 0:15is Boxing Before Dark. All right. Let's fucking
- 0:25boogie here. Man. Oh, man. Boxing before dark.
- 0:31It's time to fucking party. Yes. Shanada, how
- 0:36goes it out in Japan? It's starting to warm up.
- 0:40I'm already dreading summer. I think Sunday is
- 0:44supposed to be 18 degrees. Gross. 18? Hold on
- 0:51a second. I always have to fucking bust out the...
- 0:54What is this in freedom? Lights. 70 -ish, I think.
- 0:59Not quite that high. How many bald eagles is
- 1:04that? I mean, if you burn them, it's probably
- 1:08only one. It's about 65. Okay, I was pretty close.
- 1:13Not quite 70. That's... Man, that's a... I turned
- 1:18off my heater a few days ago and I just completely
- 1:22forgot I had it off. And then when I went to...
- 1:26To check the temperature. It was like 69, 68.
- 1:31And I was like freezing my ass off. God, desert
- 1:35life. Oh man, out in Japan. A little bit of fun
- 1:43news. The baby macaque. I'm phrasing this so
- 1:48that there's no confusion. Just because I got
- 1:51got. The baby macaque named Punch. Starting to
- 1:57get a little bit of internet fame. Has his little
- 2:01stuffed orangutan as his best friend. His replacement
- 2:07mom. Yeah. Got dumped by his mother and embraced
- 2:12by the whole of humanity. Probably an okay trade,
- 2:17I suppose. He's in Japan. He'll get specific...
- 2:24specific special treatment. What kind of things
- 2:29would they do for him? You know? When he gets
- 2:33older, he'll just be famous, so they'll make
- 2:36sure he's really well fed and his enclosure's
- 2:38better and stuff like that. Oh, yeah, he'll be
- 2:41at the front of the viewing exhibits. But that
- 2:49was fun. Punch. The way that it was phrased,
- 2:53man. So, they had to have done that shit on purpose.
- 2:58Yeah, yeah. Punch the baby monkey. No, don't
- 3:03do that. Don't punch monkeys. Baby or otherwise.
- 3:10Uh, did you see in the Winter Olympics the gold
- 3:17medal match for hockey? I saw the match, yeah.
- 3:20I'm not an Olympics person. I haven't watched
- 3:22any games. But, Canada versus the US in the gold?
- 3:26Yep. I'm excited. This is for all the bragging
- 3:31rights. I mean, that's usually how it ends up
- 3:35anyways. Who's in the bronze game? Finland and...
- 3:39Norway. Excuse me. I think. Norway. Nice. Alright,
- 3:44because there's no Russia, right? Yes. It's weird
- 3:49how that works. Like, because Taiwan has a similar
- 3:53situation where they are allowed to participate.
- 3:57Athletes are allowed to participate, but it's
- 4:00under some generic flag, like the... I think
- 4:07it's the UN flag. I think you're right. Or, like,
- 4:11the IOC. International Olympic Committee fucking...
- 4:17Whatever. Yeah, but I don't think they let Russia
- 4:22have team sports. Just individual competitors.
- 4:28So no hockey. But yeah, we'll see how that turns
- 4:35out. I might actually watch that just because
- 4:37it's gold medal. Might as well. I saw clips of
- 4:42the Czechia goal where they definitely had six
- 4:45players on the ice. And all six players celebrate
- 4:49in a little clump and the rest didn't call it.
- 4:53What? Wow. How do you miss that? I don't know
- 4:58how they missed it. It was crazy. And I think
- 5:01it tied the game. Canada had to kind of like
- 5:04come back and win it. But enough Olympics into
- 5:13some boxing news. Boy, oh boy. TBE. Floyd Money
- 5:23Mayweather has unretired officially. Will resume
- 5:27his professional boxing career. Woof. Yeah, I
- 5:34think he's going to have to drop the money from
- 5:37his name. Floyd No Money Mayweather. Man, he
- 5:43must be so broke if he's officially unretiring.
- 5:47Because he's been doing exhibitions pretty much
- 5:51since he retired. He's been doing, like he did
- 5:53the Logan Paul. He did the Gotti person. I don't
- 6:00remember who he is. But he's fought a bunch of
- 6:03influencers in exhibitions. Yeah, but those don't
- 6:09really count. Right. You know who else he fought
- 6:12in an exhibition after he retired? Tension. Tension
- 6:20was like fucking 15 or something. Still funny.
- 6:24He's older than I thought he was. I think he
- 6:27was like 19. Yeah, he was still a teenager. It
- 6:33was funny. The flowers. Floyd tried to give him
- 6:37the flowers instead. It was pretty good. As he
- 6:43cried. What did you expect was gonna happen?
- 6:52Oh, well, he's the prodigy. His nickname is ridiculous.
- 7:00The kanjis are, like, better than God or something.
- 7:04Above the Buddha. Excellent. So Floyd has the
- 7:12exhibition with Mike Tyson in April. And it's
- 7:20going to take place in, I think, the Democratic
- 7:22Republic of the Congo, not the other one. The
- 7:27Republic of the Congo? Yeah. I wish they'd just
- 7:33leave Mike alone, man. Like, stop. dragging him
- 7:38out for this shit. He's so old. I know like age
- 7:43wise he's not that old but he just looks so old.
- 7:48He's got a lot of mileage. Yeah. I don't know.
- 7:55I just want Mike to go play with his pigeons
- 8:00and be happy. I think he'll be 60. By the time
- 8:05the exhibition happens and Floyd will be almost
- 8:0850? Yeah, but like they're just very different
- 8:14types of age. I don't know how to phrase it.
- 8:19Mike is a much older 60 than Floyd Mayweather
- 8:24is an old 50. Like Mayweather's still pretty
- 8:28in shape and everything. So an interesting question
- 8:34came up in Discord, which was, who does he fight?
- 8:41You're unretired. It's gonna be Pacquiao. Gotta
- 8:44be Pacquiao, at least. It has to be Pacquiao.
- 8:47But then the conversation turned to, like, the
- 8:50current welterweight champions, and, like, Rowley?
- 8:54Does he beat Rolando Romero? He might. He might.
- 9:00He might beat Lewis Crocker. He probably beats
- 9:04Mario Barrios. That's kind of depressing that
- 9:1050 -year -old Floyd... Maybe he's not as good
- 9:14as he's been looking, though. Like, maybe Floyd
- 9:17slowed down a lot more than we think just because
- 9:20he's been fighting exhibitions against nobodies.
- 9:24Could be. Like, we kind of have to wait and see.
- 9:28Because I know Floyd isn't that, like, all -athletic
- 9:31style, but he needs to be fast and have the reaction
- 9:36time for his style of fighting. Yeah, he's definitely
- 9:40based on, like, reflexes. And those slow down
- 9:44when you get old. Well, speaking of exhibitions,
- 9:50Manny Pacquiao vs. Ruslan Provodnikov. That is
- 9:55a name I have not heard in quite some time. It's
- 9:59also a 10 round exhibition. Who does that? Hands
- 10:03up. Cause I don't know. I don't know, man. I
- 10:07think this is just going to end up being a fight.
- 10:09Like I can't see either of these guys exhibitioning.
- 10:13If you know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah, man. This,
- 10:17that was, I remember when that was like the hotness,
- 10:20I think it was. When did, uh, He had fight of
- 10:25the year with Tim Bradley. I think it was 2013.
- 10:28And it was about that time frame that we were
- 10:32talking about Pacquiao, Provodnikov. Then Chris
- 10:36Algieri showed up and he diced up Provodnikov
- 10:41and kind of spoiled it. Fucking Chris Algieri.
- 10:47He got beat to piss by Pacquiao, didn't he? Like,
- 10:51Algieri fought Pacquiao. Yeah, okay. Yep, so
- 10:552013 called. It wants its mega fight back. I
- 11:03guess. Better late than never. Although sometimes
- 11:05I think that's not true in boxing. Yeah, that's...
- 11:11It's an interesting conundrum. Like better late
- 11:17than never? I don't think so. Sometimes it's
- 11:21better to leave it as a what if than have them
- 11:23fight 10 years too late. Provodnikov, goodness
- 11:29gracious, the man took so much punishment. Yeah,
- 11:35I can't imagine how he's doing these days. This
- 11:41is an exhibition I'll actually watch because
- 11:43I don't think it's going to stay exhibitionist.
- 11:46For very long. Nah, probably not. Callum Smith,
- 11:54David Murrell is official. April 18th in Liverpool.
- 12:02Robbie was trying to decide if he should go to
- 12:06this or if he should go to Fabio Wardley and
- 12:11Daniel Dubois. I would pick Callum Smith, personally.
- 12:19But I know Robbie likes the heavyweights. I think
- 12:24probably Wardley Dubois is going to be a bigger
- 12:27crowd. Oh, for sure. More atmosphere. Yeah. But,
- 12:33like, it's your hometown guy. How can you skip
- 12:35it? Yeah, I like Callum Smith. I would pick Callum
- 12:38Smith. And Serial brought up a good point that...
- 12:43How often is a guy like David Morrell going to
- 12:46go to UK? That's true. That's why I'm excited
- 12:52for March, because I get to see knockout CP Freshmark.
- 12:56Oh, shit, he's going to be in... He's in Yokohama,
- 13:00yeah. That's right. The Mighty Mini Car, as I
- 13:05called it. I'm super excited for that card. I
- 13:09think it's pretty stacked. It is. There are a
- 13:12lot of good names on it. Also, I didn't realize
- 13:16CP Freshmart was so famous. A girl from Thailand
- 13:21started eating lunch with us, and I brought him
- 13:24up, and she's like, oh, I know him. He's super
- 13:27famous in Thailand. She's like, he's on TV all
- 13:29the time. Damn. I was like, what? Nice. Yeah.
- 13:33Well, if you're getting the Freshmart endorsement,
- 13:38you've got to be... I guess, yeah, that's true.
- 13:44But I just never really thought about it. She
- 13:45didn't know his, like, English name. I had to
- 13:48look up his real name. Neomtrong or some shit?
- 13:52Yeah, yeah. It's got a lot of M's in it. As Thai
- 14:00names tend to do. Yeah. Oh, man. Speaking of
- 14:06M names, Jaime Munguia. rejects the Resendiz
- 14:11title fight. I am off the Munguia train. I was
- 14:17a big fan. The loss to Saras I could have stuck
- 14:21around after, but he fops for peds and now he's
- 14:25ducking title chances. Fuck him. I'm done. I'm
- 14:29out. What is up with these young Hispanic guys?
- 14:33Diego Pacheco? opts out of a title fight. Jaime
- 14:37Munguia opts out of a title fight. Ridiculous.
- 14:41Like, what else? Really, why are you subjecting
- 14:46your body to this if not for a world title? What
- 14:50else is the point? Well, and especially in Munguia's
- 14:54case, because he's been fighting at that level
- 14:57for a while. Pacheco's team said they thought
- 15:00he wasn't ready. I disagree, but I mean, it still
- 15:05kind of makes sense for Pacheco. But Munguia's
- 15:09been there. He's been there for a while. Like,
- 15:12take your shot, dude. That Brissendies is a winnable
- 15:16fight for you. Yeah, I don't get it. I don't
- 15:21get this one at all. And I'm disappointed in
- 15:24Munguia. Yeah. So instead... Jermall Charlo is
- 15:30stepping up to the plate. He does not deserve
- 15:34a title fight. He does not. It is a... Is it
- 15:40a credible opponent? I was about to say it's
- 15:42credible -ish. Which one is Jermall? Which one
- 15:46was in really bad legal trouble and stuff? Was
- 15:50that Maul or Mel? Mel was the one that was having
- 15:53trouble with domestic violence and stuff. Okay.
- 15:56So this is the brother that had... has his shit
- 16:00more together. He went through a pretty bad mental
- 16:04health crisis. So if that qualifies as more put
- 16:09together, at least he kept it to himself. I mean,
- 16:13I'm going to call it more put together than beating
- 16:16the crap out of your girl. Yeah. He's more credible
- 16:22than his brother is. But I don't know, man. The
- 16:26Charlo's have been out for so long. I don't really
- 16:30call them credible for anybody right now. Especially
- 16:33not a title fight. I don't know. We're about
- 16:37a month out. Maybe five weeks. For a late replacement,
- 16:45this isn't the worst name you could pull out
- 16:49of the hat, though. No, it's not the worst. Yeah,
- 16:53late replacement. I get what you're saying. I'm
- 16:57just sick of these people that... Are names or
- 17:00were names cutting the lines? But I guess he
- 17:04didn't cut this line because Munguia stepped
- 17:06out of the way, so. Gotta salvage the fight somehow.
- 17:11Yeah, I guess I can't complain about this one.
- 17:17Hold on, I want to pull up good old box rec and
- 17:20see what the options are at the top of the division.
- 17:28Um, Jermall Charlo is highly rated. That's on,
- 17:32uh, like, Legacy, so to speak. Hmm. Hmm. Mbili's
- 17:42probably busy. Iglesias is busy. Shiraz is busy.
- 17:49Ex -busy. Could, uh, pull up Jakub Bank. Still
- 17:55in decent fight shape. Coming off of a big win.
- 18:01So this is WBA, right? Yes. So they've got Tonello
- 18:071, Bektamir 2, Charlo 3, Hamza Shiraz 4, and
- 18:13Darius Fulgham 5. Caleb Plant. You already beat
- 18:21Caleb Plant. I'm surprised. Plant is still rated.
- 18:31He's number six there. What about Kevin Sajo?
- 18:39The guy who just lost to Pacheco. He got a win
- 18:43a few days ago. I didn't even know about it.
- 18:50Second round stoppage. Goddamn. Yeah, it was
- 18:54a really fast fight. The dude is 22 and 29 going
- 18:58into it. Oh, never mind. Sorry, Kevin. I thought
- 19:02you were doing something legit over there. No.
- 19:07But yeah, looks like it's going to be Resendiz
- 19:10versus Charlo. What are you going to do? I guess
- 19:17I'll watch it if I have to. Mmm, speaking of
- 19:24disappointments, Mark Magzayo signs over to the
- 19:31dark side. I was really disappointed when I saw
- 19:36this one. I know he hasn't been doing much lately,
- 19:40but I am a Mark Magzayo fan, and I did not want
- 19:45to see him sign with Zufa. It does kind of make
- 19:48sense for him, I guess, but... It's lame. Yeah,
- 19:53it's steady work for him. And he's somewhat of
- 20:01a name. I don't know, I guess in a really generous
- 20:05sense. But he's a recognizable name for boxing
- 20:09fans. So to get into a rigidly structured environment
- 20:16like Zufa, it's steady work. So you don't have
- 20:20to worry about when you're next. Yeah, he'll
- 20:23probably get more fights with Zufa than he has
- 20:25been getting. Yeah. I don't know. I just don't...
- 20:31He's not going to get to fight for any titles
- 20:34if he's with Zufa. I know people are going to
- 20:38say, well, he wasn't going to fight for titles
- 20:40anyways. He's not good enough. But you never
- 20:42know. When we were talking about it on B -Sides,
- 20:48when Brandon Figueroa, when we were recapping
- 20:51that, It was the, I had suggested Mark Maxayo
- 20:57as a first title defense. Like you have, you
- 21:01have history with him and it like a controversial
- 21:05-ish decision win for Figueroa. So it would be
- 21:11a title shot for Maxayo. Figueroa gets to settle
- 21:16the debate. Yeah, it makes sense to me, but it's
- 21:21not gonna happen now. Nope. Makes me sad. He
- 21:26will be competing at 135 now. That's gonna be
- 21:31rough. Yeah. Or am I misremembering? Wasn't he
- 21:38fighting at, like, 140? 130. Oh, they moved him
- 21:44up, not down. Yeah. He's not that big. No. He's
- 21:54only 5 '6". I don't know. I don't like the less
- 22:00weight classes. I know some people are all for
- 22:03it. I don't like it. People are going to be stuck
- 22:07in between and just get hurt. Either hurt from
- 22:11cutting too much or hurt from fighting people
- 22:13that are too much bigger than them. Yeah. I think
- 22:18you're right. Some of the jumps are like 15 pounds,
- 22:22aren't they? When you get up higher? When you
- 22:25get up higher, the gap gets bigger. Like, doesn't
- 22:30it go from 140... Do they have 147? Yes. To 156?
- 22:39No. Or 168? 160. Okay. Anyway, some of those
- 22:46jumps are big. That's all I'm saying. Oh, man.
- 22:51Speaking of big jumps, Connor Benn also signs
- 22:56with the dark side. That doesn't surprise me.
- 23:00This is a... Allegedly, it's a one -fight deal
- 23:04that is worth tens of millions. Oh, is this what
- 23:14Eddie Hearn was bitching about? When I woke up
- 23:17this morning? Probably. Something about loyalty
- 23:20and yadda yadda yadda? Had to be this then. If
- 23:23Eddie Hearn was bitching about loyalty, then
- 23:26it was Connor Ben. Yeah, I didn't really listen
- 23:29to it. I was just scrolling through reels while
- 23:32I brushed my teeth. I scroll past Eddie Hearn
- 23:37most of the time. Most of the time I do too.
- 23:40Yeah. I don't know. That one doesn't surprise
- 23:44me. I think Connor Ben kind of suits being with
- 23:48Zufa. It's one fight, so I don't know. We'll
- 23:54see what happens after that. Did they say who
- 24:00he's fighting? There's nobody for him to fight.
- 24:05But that's what I mean. Zufa doesn't have anyone
- 24:09his size, do they? Connor Ben's supposed to...
- 24:13He's supposedly a welterweight. So we'll see
- 24:18if he gets back to that. I don't know, man. Yeah,
- 24:24two fights at 160. And then going back to 47.
- 24:27That's quite the cut to make. Oh, shit. Manny
- 24:34Pacquiao promotions. Wins. The purse bid for
- 24:39Angelo Leo's title defense. I was so sad Provox
- 24:44didn't get this. Yeah, me too. I wanted Provox
- 24:48to have a title fight on their air and I wanted
- 24:51Angelo Leo to come home. Yeah, instead Pacquiao
- 24:58Promotions is going to put this up in Aleem's,
- 25:01Raees Aleem's hometown. That sucks. quite yeah
- 25:08i'm just not happy about this at all like what
- 25:16has i'm surprised pacquiao promotions even was
- 25:22able to bid for this because i've never heard
- 25:26of them putting on fights or cards typically
- 25:30they're in the philippines and they're a lot
- 25:34of like lower lower class tier not class lower
- 25:41tier guys like four rounders six rounders you
- 25:44know what i mean yeah yeah it's more they've
- 25:49always been very prospecting like brand new prospecting
- 25:53right like i don't know and the one manny pacquiao
- 25:59promotions card i watched like shit was kind
- 26:03of a shit show like I think it might have been
- 26:09one of their very first ones, but the cameras
- 26:11were kind of all over the place. There was some
- 26:16delay. I forget what happened. Maybe they've
- 26:20gotten better, but the first one I watched was
- 26:22very much the first one. They have a card coming
- 26:29up this weekend, actually. But we'll talk about
- 26:36that later. I'm curious where this money infusion
- 26:44came from. Because if they were putting on prospect
- 26:48-ish level guys and now they're jumping up to
- 26:52a title fight. I'm a little worried that the
- 26:56production is going to be absolute garbage on
- 26:58this one. I'm not going to lie. Yeah. Like, I'm
- 27:05not saying Probox has the best production, but
- 27:07it's always good. And they have a good commentary
- 27:11team. Like, who's going to be commentating for
- 27:13Manny Pacquiao promotions? Good question. Because
- 27:19I don't think I've ever seen him with an English
- 27:21commentary. I can only imagine that they'll put
- 27:28together a crew, like, from whoever. Is able
- 27:33to. Go outside of their. Promotional ecosystem.
- 27:38Yeah like I'm sure he'll have people. But I mean
- 27:41like. I don't know. I like Chris Algieri and
- 27:44Pauly Malignaggi. Yeah. I was super excited for
- 27:48them to call. And I got ahead of myself. This
- 27:52burst my bubble terribly. Anthony Joshua. Is.
- 28:02starting to get back into training he's kind
- 28:05of easing back into it he's not in the camp but
- 28:09it looks like the plan is to get him back in
- 28:12the ring july august time frame i kind of assume
- 28:18that going back to the gym without those guys
- 28:22kind of is very hard right so i don't know i
- 28:28still kind of think AJ might not come back and
- 28:32I think that's okay but I just I'm not convinced
- 28:35that he's gonna come back not yet yeah uh until
- 28:42until I see word from the man himself then I'm
- 28:46not gonna put any stock into this this is Eddie
- 28:50Hearn relaying allegedly what AJ said but Yeah,
- 28:58going back to training, going back to the gym
- 29:01without your fucking best friends who've been
- 29:03with you for years. Yeah. That cannot be easy.
- 29:09Nah, that's gotta be hard. Yeah, if he hangs
- 29:12it up, totally understandable. Hmm. What was
- 29:20not understandable? The WBO has suspended...
- 29:26Janubek for a year after his PED violation. Yeah.
- 29:35And there's going to be an interim title, so
- 29:41he's not getting stripped. And he has to face
- 29:45the interim title list when he gets back after
- 29:51his suspension. You agree he cheated, just strip
- 29:57him. Right. I don't understand this one. Just
- 30:03strip him. If you want to let him fight for it
- 30:06again, let him. But there's no consequences to
- 30:11using PEDs, apparently. And being suspended by
- 30:18the WBO does not prevent you from fighting. You
- 30:23can just... go fight for another organization.
- 30:28Ridiculous. Yeah, he's not in trouble here. Somebody
- 30:37on Twitter, I saw it. It was kind of funny. Somebody
- 30:42said, how much did Johnny Beck pay you to not
- 30:47strip him? To let him keep the belt. And then
- 30:50the... President of WBO himself said, if you
- 30:54have reliable evidence of this, then please contact
- 31:00the FBI. Wow, dude. That's kind of a pretty good
- 31:07comeback. It is. It is good. Still, not stripping
- 31:16him is like pretty sus. Yeah. No, I don't agree
- 31:20with that. Golden Boy is putting on a card in
- 31:28mid -March. It's going to feature Arnold Barbosa
- 31:33versus Kenneth Sims is the headline. Gabby Fandora.
- 31:37That could be fun. Yes. Those are two guys at
- 31:40an equal level. Gabby Fandora versus Viviana
- 31:46Ruiz. Don't know who that is. Sorry, Vivian,
- 31:51but... Gabi's gonna win. Yeah, probably. And
- 31:58Oscar Collazo versus Jesus Haro. Versus who?
- 32:06Jesus Haro. Don't know who that is. I thought
- 32:10he was fighting Jerusalem. When did that get
- 32:12cancelled? I thought he was fighting Jerusalem
- 32:14as well. Let me make sure I'm not getting...
- 32:23Yep, it's even on BoxRec, Jesus Haro. We talked
- 32:27about the Jerusalem rematch. We had talked about
- 32:30that, I remember. Yeah, no, like, I thought I
- 32:36saw a post that Jerusalem had his plane tickets
- 32:39and shit. One second. Yeah, this is a change.
- 32:46Interesting change. His nickname is Gringo. That's
- 32:56the dumbest shit I've ever seen. He is definitely
- 32:59not white. Oh, yeah, no. They're pissed. Jerusalem's
- 33:08camp put out a thing. They had bought their tickets
- 33:13and booked their hotels and they're getting fucked.
- 33:19That's crazy. That is bonkers. You turned down
- 33:23a three belt fight for who? Fucking Oscar. I
- 33:33don't know which Oscar I'm blaming here, but
- 33:35fuck Oscar on this one. Big time. God damn. I
- 33:42can't imagine that Marvin Jerusalem has a lot
- 33:45of money to be blowing on like cancellation fees.
- 33:49No, I don't think so. Let's see. Rising Star
- 33:57Promotions is headed by Cornflake LaManna. Okay.
- 34:06They are going to be hosting Brick City Fight
- 34:09Night. That's in Newark, New Jersey. It's going
- 34:13to be on ProBox. Nice. I hope ProBox has a hand
- 34:20in the matchmaking. If they do, it should be
- 34:24good. Right. And last thing, Matchroom signs
- 34:31a five -year extension with The Zone. I think
- 34:36that's a good move. Yes, I'm glad to see that.
- 34:40Somebody of the old guard has a home for their
- 34:44shows. Yeah. Oh, shit. Little bit of notes here.
- 34:55Fucking social media, LVX Media Net. That's the
- 34:59handle everywhere. Wherever you're listening,
- 35:03you can hit us with a rating. It helps move us
- 35:05up the fucking search algorithm. And if you're
- 35:09feeling a little extra, a review would be nice.
- 35:12Oh shit, do you want a boxing calendar? Go to
- 35:15LVXmedia .net. There's a calendar button at the
- 35:20top, or you could just scroll down. It's right
- 35:22there on the front page. And while you're there,
- 35:24check out Josh's rants in written format on the
- 35:29Wayside Sports Review. Do you have that nagging
- 35:33feeling of being exposed when you're online?
- 35:36In today's world, a simple antivirus isn't enough.
- 35:39Your digital life, your photos, your bank accounts,
- 35:42your family's privacy, it all needs more than
- 35:45just a basic firewall. you need Malwarebytes.
- 35:49Malwarebytes is your complete shield against
- 35:51the chaos of the internet. The powerful next
- 35:53-generation antivirus instantly quarantines threats,
- 35:56locks down malware before it can do any damage.
- 35:59But it doesn't stop there. It includes an ultra
- 36:02-fast, ultra -private VPN to encrypt your connections,
- 36:05keeping your location and data private while
- 36:08you're on public Wi -Fi. Plus, the integrated
- 36:11ad blocker makes your browsing cleaner and faster.
- 36:14Whether you're protecting your personal machine
- 36:16or securing the whole household, Malwarebytes
- 36:19has a plan for you. Go to lvx .be slash mwb,
- 36:23but find the subscription that's right for you.
- 36:26Don't wait for the next error message. Take control
- 36:29of your digital piece at lvx .be slash mwb. Dandruff
- 36:36doesn't just affect your hair, it chips away
- 36:38at your confidence. But I'm here to tell you,
- 36:41it doesn't have to be this way. It's time to
- 36:43say bye to flakes with flakes. Flakes isn't a
- 36:46scented wash you get from the grocery store that
- 36:48just masks the problem. It's a powerful, medically
- 36:51formulated treatment designed to get to the root
- 36:54of the toughest dandruff. Flakes works fast to
- 36:57control the flaking, calm the itching, and soothe
- 37:00the redness that's on your scalp. And here's
- 37:03another pro tip. Flakes will also help with that
- 37:05stubborn beard gruff if you have that too. Imagine
- 37:09feeling completely free to wear whatever you
- 37:11want, whenever you want to. Imagine just focusing
- 37:14on your day and not on your scalp. That's the
- 37:16difference that flakes makes. Go to lvx .be slash
- 37:20flakes for a nice little discount while you help
- 37:23us out a little bit in the process. Don't settle
- 37:25for temporary fixes that smell like the produce
- 37:28section of your grocery store. Fight back with
- 37:30a shampoo that dermatologists trust. lvx .be
- 37:34slash flakes. Let's see here. We got a few recaps,
- 37:39some of which... Actually, not a lot. This was
- 37:43a light weekend. Or light review period, I guess.
- 37:47Tuesday, February 10th. Salida Promotions in
- 37:53Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a card. It certainly
- 38:00was a card that had boxing on it. The only two
- 38:05fights I was tracking here, Caroline Byer gets
- 38:10the UD over Delphine Persoon for the vacant WBC
- 38:14130 title. Nice. Delphine's getting pretty old,
- 38:21right? Yeah, she is. I put her two names together
- 38:25and said it completely wrong. I realized as soon
- 38:29as it came out of my mouth. I was going to roll
- 38:31with it. Don't sound too stupid. But yeah, we'll
- 38:38see. I doubt that Caroline is going to be unifying
- 38:44with Alicia Baumgartner just because WBC doesn't
- 38:51allow three minute rounds for women because they're
- 38:56fucking lame. Yeah. I guess. Canadians got a
- 39:02belt? That's cool. Well, kind of Canadian. She's
- 39:08from France. Is she a French -Canadian? Lives
- 39:12in, uh... She's from France and lives in Quebec.
- 39:18That's... odd. Well, I guess Mbili did it. Not
- 39:23that strange, I suppose. Joshua Pagan. Gets the
- 39:30UD over Brian Jimenez. It was fine. I have to
- 39:40admit, I didn't watch this card at all. Don't
- 39:42worry about it. I am the fucking filthy degenerate
- 39:47for this one. Let me continue my filthy degenerate
- 39:54streak. Saturday, February 14th. Dream. Boxing
- 39:58on DAZN in Germany. The only fight I watched,
- 40:06because it's the only one I cared about, and
- 40:08cared about is very generous. I'm using that
- 40:11term very generously. Marco Hook gets the UD
- 40:15over Václav Pejsar. But the German crowds, man.
- 40:23The German crowds are fun. Yeah, even for like
- 40:27a well past his prime I guess former legend like
- 40:35Marco Hook. They came out. They showed out for
- 40:39him. Yeah, it's nice. Yeah, Germans, they fucking
- 40:44love their boxing. It's really cool. Sunday,
- 40:50February 15th. Muto Promotions at the Sumiyoshi
- 40:55Sports Center in Osaka. Again, only watched one
- 41:00fight here. Ryosuke Nishida wins a unanimous
- 41:08technical decision. The fight was stopped in
- 41:12the 7th. Or, in the 8th. And it went to the cards.
- 41:19I just thumbed up that shit. That's weird. Brian
- 41:22Mercado was the op. Very competitive fight. Head
- 41:30clash led to a very, very bad cut on Nishida.
- 41:35It just kept opening wider and wider. I was kind
- 41:40of complaining or thinking about complaining
- 41:43about the stoppage because Nishida was just ignoring
- 41:46it and it wasn't bleeding into his eye. And then
- 41:49they showed the close -up. and I realized how
- 41:52wide the cut had gotten. It was like an inch
- 41:55and a half wide. Jesus. Like four inches long.
- 42:00It was just perfectly in his eyebrows, so it
- 42:03didn't look so bad, if you know what I mean.
- 42:05Yeah, because when I was watching it, I was thinking
- 42:08as well, when it first happened, I was like,
- 42:11oh, that's not so bad. We'll see how this...
- 42:14This should be manageable by the cut man, right?
- 42:18It was not. Mercado must have been working on
- 42:21it from the other end. Mostly with his head.
- 42:26It was a pretty clear competitive but clear decision.
- 42:38Would have been the same if it went the distance.
- 42:40I think so too. Nishida looked the way he always
- 42:45looks. He's more of a boxer than most of the
- 42:49Japanese guys, but he kind of lacks power. I
- 42:52don't think Nishida hits very hard. It explains
- 42:56why Mercado was walking through everything, even
- 43:00though he was getting tagged up a lot. Yeah,
- 43:04Nishida's got decent skills. He just doesn't
- 43:07hit hard enough to stop anybody, I think. But...
- 43:15This is Nishida's move to 122. He still looked
- 43:22pretty skeletal, but I think part of that is
- 43:25just his bone structure. He's got crazy cheekbones.
- 43:29And yeah, like his eyebrows, his brow line also
- 43:34is a lot bigger than what you usually see from
- 43:37Asian men. Yeah. That's how the cut was so hidden.
- 43:44Yeah, it was kind of in the shadow of his brow
- 43:47ridge. Honestly, Nishida looks like Namor from
- 43:52the Marvel comics to me. It's kind of a deep
- 43:57cut. Yeah, I didn't know who that was. Looking
- 44:02at box rec for 122, Inoue and Nakatani, one and
- 44:09two, no shit. Nishida moves up to number three.
- 44:16I think Nishida deserves to be that high right
- 44:19now. I'm so bad at weight classes. Who else is
- 44:22at 122 right now? So going down the list, Inoue
- 44:26Nakatani Nishida, Picasso, Tapales, Philippus
- 44:33Njitumbwa. I think I got that. And MJ, a guy
- 44:40named Sebastian Hernandez, Brian Mercado, who
- 44:44Nishida just beat. Toshiki... I think Nishida
- 44:49beats Picasso. Personally. I think so too. He's
- 44:55a better boxer than Picasso. Yeah. And Picasso
- 45:00doesn't have... He's not like a power threat
- 45:03himself. Yeah, and Nishida's got a decent chin.
- 45:10He takes a shot. He survived Nakatani. Well,
- 45:16I... Did he? The corner pulled him, not... Yeah.
- 45:23Well, pulled him from a shoulder injury. Yeah.
- 45:30Holy shit, Ramun Cardenas is at 11? He should
- 45:35not be that low. I got questions, Boxerick. What
- 45:40the hell? He's not very high on any of the standings
- 45:43either. The highest, he's number four in the
- 45:47WBC. Oh no, I lied. He's number two in the WBA.
- 45:55I just missed his name. Okay, so at least he's
- 45:59got that. Unfortunately, all roads lead to Inouye
- 46:05and didn't work out the first time. I can't see
- 46:10it going much better a second time. No, the second
- 46:12time he gets stopped sooner. Inoue and Nakatani
- 46:18officially confirmed the May date. I am so excited.
- 46:25Yeah, I did see some at the JBC Awards. Inoue
- 46:31was there and was like, I'm gonna give it my
- 46:34all. I'm gonna do my best to be the best Japanese.
- 46:39With his pink hair? Yeah. The guys hate his pink
- 46:43hair so much. What do they call him? Your lesbian
- 46:49aunt? Yeah. The pink hair isn't helping with
- 46:53that. Nah. Whatever. It's fine. He's got a wife.
- 46:58He doesn't have to care what anyone else thinks.
- 47:01Yeah. Who is he trying to impress? But that is
- 47:08the Muto card. Congrats to Nishida. Glad to see
- 47:13him rebound pretty nicely from that injury. Yeah,
- 47:21being prone to cuts might be a problem. I think
- 47:25it's because he's so dehydrated. And such sharp
- 47:30bones in his face. Yeah, I was... Looking at
- 47:34his picture on BoxRec, like, holy shit, dude.
- 47:37You can practically see his entire skull. Yeah,
- 47:43he's just got a very angular face. Excellent.
- 47:48It's like original PlayStation graphics. Let's
- 47:55see here. Moving to Zufa Boxing 3. There were
- 48:04quite a few stoppages here. I think that Zufa
- 48:12management, or the Zufa brass was like, hey guys,
- 48:15let's put the pedal down here. Because the last
- 48:19card was all decisions. Nobody stands out to
- 48:26my recollection. I'm going to say Leo Ruiz got
- 48:30a stoppage in 4. You get to keep your name. Congrats.
- 48:36So does Jabriobe Benito. I think that was a good
- 48:42knockout. I can't remember. It was. Abel Mejia
- 48:46was the quote -unquote house fighter. They were
- 48:50really talking him up. And then Pebenito just
- 48:55wasn't having it. Fucking iced him. Yeah, he
- 48:58beat the shit out of him. It was good. Yeah.
- 49:02Abel was okay to start, but he started getting
- 49:06a little reckless. And, yeah, Pavanito knew exactly
- 49:10how to turn it around. In the co -main, Umar
- 49:18Zambekov gets a stoppage in two. This was a pretty,
- 49:23like, dude was stiff. Stiff as a board. laid
- 49:29out on his back, eyes rolling in the back of
- 49:32his head. I shouldn't laugh at that, but it made
- 49:35me think of the stiff as a board, light as a
- 49:37feather. Yeah, that old game. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:40Yeah. But there you go. That was Ahmed El -Biali's
- 49:46demise. In the main... This was not a good fight.
- 49:55No. FAA Jogba stops Charles Martin at four. How
- 50:01was it that the odds, the betting odds, had Charles
- 50:08Martin so fucking close? Like, who sets these
- 50:14lines? I mean, a Jogba looked pretty shit in
- 50:18his last couple fights. Perhaps. But Charles
- 50:23Martin, long layoff. He looked like shit in his
- 50:27last fights. That's true, too. Yeah, I'm not
- 50:33sure how anybody would land on the idea that
- 50:36Charles Martin's gonna... Do anything? Yeah.
- 50:43I don't know, man. But somebody made money on
- 50:46a jogba, so... Yeah. But... Given that FA at
- 50:55Jogba is in the Zufa ecosystem, he's not going
- 51:01to get very many good fights. He was talking
- 51:05a lot of shit in his post -fight interview and
- 51:07has since on social media saying that I'm in
- 51:11the top 10 for heavyweights everywhere. Nobody's
- 51:16even mentioning me. Man, dude, nobody cares.
- 51:22No, and you signed with Zufa. There's no reason
- 51:25to fight you. Right, you're not going to... It's
- 51:29not going to be like a final eliminator to fight
- 51:32you. No. I mean, that's what you get for signing
- 51:37into the We're Our Own League company. Yep. You
- 51:43wanted the Zufa title? Congrats. You got it?
- 51:47This is the quality. Yeah, you're going to get
- 51:49it if this is the quality of your opposition.
- 51:54But yeah, that's like about all the time I wanted
- 52:00to give to Zufa. Yeah. Yeah. Let me see. I got
- 52:05more notes. The phone line. 833 -589 -7637. Send

- 55:18matter. It's Probox. You're getting good fights.
- 55:22That's true, but there are some names I recognize.
- 55:26Renee Taez. Yeah. Maybe it's because I watch
- 55:32Pro Box that I recognize their names, I guess.
- 55:34But Bocanegra's fought there before, right? Yeah,
- 55:38I was going to say Bocanegra next. He's fun.
- 55:41And Aguilar, he's fun. Ranulfo Bocanegra? Bocanegra?
- 55:54Sorry? There's another Bocanegra on the card.
- 55:58Oh, there's two? Yep. Oh, this is a long card.
- 56:01Yeah, there's a lot. Anyways, it's Pro Box. You
- 56:08know they'll be bangers. That's what they do.
- 56:13Two kind of throwaway cards. Saturday, February
- 56:1728th. Manny Pacquiao Promotions on Amazon Prime.
- 56:23Oh, fuck. Where is it? The headline is Elijah
- 56:27Pierce versus Lorenzo Parra. Got to roll the
- 56:31R there. I'm going to be honest with you. I don't
- 56:37really care who most of these people are. Kermel
- 56:42Moten is on the undercard against Wilfredo Flores.
- 56:47And Manny Pacquiao Jr. versus Luis Santana. That's
- 56:54the bastard child, right? Is he? I think so.
- 56:59He's not a junior. His mom named him after his
- 57:03dad and forced him to admit he was his. Is he?
- 57:10I think that's the bastard son. I don't think
- 57:15that's one of the ones with Jinky. Interesting.
- 57:23Or are there two Emmanuel Pacquiao Jr.? His birth
- 57:27name says Manny Pacquiao Jr. Am I spreading rumors?
- 57:36Well, it's not rumors. He has a bastard son.
- 57:38Yeah, yeah. Of course he does. It's fucking Manny
- 57:41Pacquiao. At his prime, he could bang whoever
- 57:47he wanted. No. I am wrong. This is the one with
- 57:54Jinky. This is the legit Junior? Yeah. Sorry.
- 58:02Sorry. It's all good. This one is a bit of a
- 58:09prospect one. It's Queensberry. It's going to
- 58:14be on DAZN. This one's in Derby, England. I fucking
- 58:20don't know who these people are. Owen Cooper
- 58:22versus Constantine Ursu. I've heard those names
- 58:26before. We've seen Luke McCormick as well. Yes.
- 58:33This is probably not going to be as much of a
- 58:37banger card. This is probably going to be worth
- 58:40missing. This is Brit Slot for sure. The dude's
- 58:43name is Kane. That's fucking dope. It's one of
- 58:48my favorite wrestlers when I was a kid. Yeah,
- 58:54there's some very British names on here. Ben
- 58:57Fail. Fail is a hard last name to grow up with.
- 59:00For me, my personal litmus test of how bad a
- 59:09name is is imagining myself going through boot
- 59:15camp with it. If my name was Fail, good lord,
- 59:21the hazing would be insane. Yeah, that's a rough
- 59:28one. I'd probably change my name. Yeah, change
- 59:34it to Success. Oh, last one. Matchroom in Phoenix,
- 59:45Arizona. I will absolutely be in attendance.
- 59:49I'm excited for this card. Yeah, this is really
- 59:52good. The undercard leads a little bit to be
- 59:59desired, unfortunately, but Emiliano Vargas is
- 1:00:05going to be on it, so I'm excited to see him
- 1:00:06live. Abel Ramos is always a solid B -side. Yes.
- 1:00:15Against Tamir Smalls. Yeah, Abel Ramos will give
- 1:00:20you good work. And the main event, WBO Super
- 1:00:28Featherweight Champ Emanuel Navarrete versus
- 1:00:31IBF Super Featherweight Champ Eduardo Nunez.
- 1:00:36That one should be good. I'm super excited for
- 1:00:38this main. I'm a little jealous you get to see
- 1:00:41it live. I... am a little jealous uh for your
- 1:00:46jealousy because you you get to envy me jokes
- 1:00:51jokes jokes um yeah i i'm stoked this is i couldn't
- 1:00:57we were talking about it in discord like why
- 1:00:59the would you put this good of a fight in phoenix
- 1:01:04of all places i mean phoenix is a pretty big
- 1:01:08city isn't it it is absolutely it's uh top five
- 1:01:11in the us but Why not put it in Mexico? These
- 1:01:16guys are both straight up Mexican. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:18yeah. Fair. I hadn't thought about that. Then
- 1:01:23the other suggestion was L .A., which, you know,
- 1:01:28makes sense. Big city. Much bigger than Phoenix
- 1:01:31is. Much higher taxes, I assume. And then Texas.
- 1:01:38Yeah. Yeah, Texas. Would make sense as well.
- 1:01:43But then you wouldn't get to go, Leo. Yeah. The
- 1:01:49arena used to be our hockey venue until the team
- 1:01:55left. So now they don't have a steady source
- 1:02:00of income. So they probably got this on the cheap.
- 1:02:04Well, and it's a big venue, probably. Hockey
- 1:02:08arenas usually sit quite a few people. Yeah,
- 1:02:12when I was picking up my ticket, it has sold
- 1:02:17really well. Good. Fuck, if I was anywhere close,
- 1:02:23I'd go see Navarrete. I'm honestly thinking Nunez
- 1:02:30is going to pull this one out. A little bit of
- 1:02:32a dark horse situation. I can't cheer against
- 1:02:36my guy, though. Nav and... His steady stream
- 1:02:42of tacos. The donuts? Yeah, the Coca -Colas.
- 1:02:49On camera. At the weigh -in. Having a full sugar
- 1:02:54Coke. Yeah, well, he's gotta replenish his sugar
- 1:02:59reserves. I'm surprised he didn't bring a box
- 1:03:06of Winchellas. Has M &Ms as well? I don't know,
- 1:03:15man. I dislike Nav. I think he's fun. He's fun
- 1:03:19to watch. He seems like a fun guy in his interviews
- 1:03:22and stuff. I like Nav. I don't dislike Nunez,
- 1:03:26but Nav's my guy. I just think he's skated by
- 1:03:35for quite some time with how little he takes,
- 1:03:39how little, how unseriously he takes his career.
- 1:03:46He has skated by on, and I think that it's just
- 1:03:50not going to last. Yeah. But that in itself is
- 1:03:54kind of endearing. Like he doesn't, he doesn't
- 1:03:59seem to be very impressed with himself. I don't,
- 1:04:05I don't know how to say it. Like being a world
- 1:04:07champion is impressive, but now I was like, yeah.
- 1:04:11All right. I did that. I'll do it again. Watch
- 1:04:14me. So what if I lost moving up? I'll win again.
- 1:04:21Then he did. Yeah. I don't know. I just like
- 1:04:25Nav. I like his nonchalance. I need to find out
- 1:04:39what time first bell is. I want to be there for
- 1:04:43everything. Yeah, I don't get the people that
- 1:04:46only show up for the co -main and main. I don't
- 1:04:50get that. You paid for all of it. Go watch all
- 1:04:52of it. Yeah. When we went to... What was it?
- 1:04:59It was Bud vs. Madrimov. And... We were kind
- 1:05:05of talking the day before, like, oh, you know,
- 1:05:07what time do we want to get there? Do we want
- 1:05:10to stop and eat somewhere or something? And I
- 1:05:12was like, you guys can do whatever you want.
- 1:05:14I'm going at first bell. I'm going to be there
- 1:05:16when the gates fucking open. I'm watching every
- 1:05:19fight. For the boxing, if I miss that first unbroadcast
- 1:05:27four -rounder, I'm pissed. Because sometimes
- 1:05:29I fuck up the trains or I get on the wrong bus
- 1:05:31or whatever. Buses are hard in Japan. But no,
- 1:05:38I try and get there. I'm actually usually there
- 1:05:41before the doors open. Yeah, we got there before
- 1:05:45the doors opened. Yeah, I'm not much of a nerd.
- 1:05:47Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes if you're like
- 1:05:50the first hundred people in line, they give you
- 1:05:52some merch in Japan. That makes sense. That's
- 1:05:58pretty cool. I got a t -shirt at one of the Prime
- 1:06:02Video ones. Inoue and Nakatani were both on the
- 1:06:09card. I wasn't wrong, but it's Takuma. Yeah,
- 1:06:14that's what I was thinking when you said Inoue.
- 1:06:19See? Very cool. Free t -shirt. It's even big
- 1:06:25enough for me. Well, they often run out of larges.
- 1:06:34As much as Japan is tiny people, lots of the
- 1:06:38guys that go to the boxing are large. Not large
- 1:06:44in the grand scheme, but like a Japanese large.
- 1:06:50One thing that we did, we weren't sure what side
- 1:06:55of the arena we were getting our tickets on.
- 1:06:59As far as when it comes time to sunset. And we
- 1:07:04ended up picking the wrong side. Goddamn. Because
- 1:07:08we were there early, we just kind of got up and
- 1:07:11moved to another section. And there was nobody
- 1:07:15there. So we got to sit, wait for the sun to
- 1:07:20set, and then we went back to our seats. I don't
- 1:07:23get it. It's like buying tickets to a hockey
- 1:07:25game and only showing up for the third quarter.
- 1:07:27It's ridiculous. Or third period. But that's
- 1:07:35all we got. Probox, Pacquiao Promotions, Queensberry,
- 1:07:41Matchroom, the usual suspects. Not a bad random
- 1:07:49week in February. No, not a bad way to close
- 1:07:54out the month. So, we are going into Nav Nunez
- 1:08:03weekend. Parting words. Parting words. I always
- 1:08:10forget to prepare these. This weekend, because
- 1:08:14we record on Saturday, I'm going on a pilgrimage
- 1:08:18to the seven shrines of the seven gods of fortune.
- 1:08:24They're all in Narita City. I'm super excited
- 1:08:26about this, actually. So you stop at all seven?
- 1:08:30Yeah. That's pretty cool. Yeah. The one walk
- 1:08:36between the two is very long. I might cheat and
- 1:08:41take a bus, but we'll see. If you do it properly,
- 1:08:46the whole thing, it's 18 kilometers of walking.
- 1:08:49Goodness gracious. That's like what I did in
- 1:08:52London. God damn. Yeah, so the one stretch is
- 1:08:575K. I think I might cheat. They don't care. I'll
- 1:09:01pay for all my stamps anyways. Yeah, like they're
- 1:09:06going to check the step counter or something?
- 1:09:08No. Yeah, exactly. Parting words I got. Don't
- 1:09:16punch monkeys. Always good. And check out Punch
- 1:09:22the Monkey. on instagram he is fucking adorable
- 1:09:26very cute yeah so there you go punch monkey is
- 1:09:32he's riding with us into nav nunez that's it
- 1:09:37for who's he backing who's the monkey backing
- 1:09:39um i'm gonna i'm gonna guess his stuffy his little
- 1:09:45uh his little friend slash mom thing is an orangutan
- 1:09:50right and they have really long arms So I'm going
- 1:09:53with he's Punch is backing Nav because he's got
- 1:09:57long fucking gorilla arms. That's so mean. I
- 1:10:02mean, hey. It's true. It's true. It's a fantastic
- 1:10:06attribute for what he does. All right. Me and
- 1:10:11the monkey are riding with Nav. Tune in next
- 1:10:15week to figure out who wins. You've let me down,
- 1:10:17Punch. All right. That's it for this edition
- 1:10:21of Boxing Before Dark. See you on the other side.
- 1:10:28Bye.
