- 0:47Speaker 1: that's how it works that I know everybody and everybody
- 0:50Speaker 1: calls me, and that way I can do to him
- 0:52Speaker 1: like I know him, say like this person in the background.
- 0:55Speaker 1: See how these people. I've been talking to people I'm
- 0:58Speaker 1: trying to introduce if I got to set it up,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and she in the background laugh that ain't fair that
- 1:02Speaker 1: they're right. But we're gonna get to her right now
- 1:04Speaker 1: because she probably just really just talk. She got time
- 1:07Speaker 1: to a busy person. My next guest is born and

- 1:50Speaker 1: warm welcome? Or you know, if you if I would
- 1:52Speaker 1: have said more, but I got nervous because you were
- 1:54Speaker 1: talking and cheering in the background. You know, there are
- 1:57Speaker 1: rules to introduction the feast something the rules. Now, I
- 2:01Speaker 1: know you're on this popular Sei. Let's let's let's get
- 2:04Speaker 1: to let's get to this series. First of all, we're
- 2:05Speaker 1: yet right now where all you're talking to me from,
- 2:09Speaker 1: I'm home and home is home is right now Atlanta
- 2:14Speaker 1: or Atlanta, Georgia. Okay, you could have come in studio
- 2:18Speaker 1: and did this interview girl this, I'm really mad now,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I'm really mad. Now to make you mad, don't make
- 2:26Speaker 1: me mad. Because you're a superhero. You're superhero, You're thunder.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Thunder can make a difference. Now, let's talk about We've
- 2:32Speaker 1: got a lot of things to talk about. Your your
- 2:33Speaker 1: your your give back programs, uh, your uplifting programs by
- 2:38Speaker 1: Saturdays dreaming, let's talk about it. It's some of the
- 2:40Speaker 1: shows you've done before. But let's talk about Black Lightning.
- 2:44Speaker 1: How you auditioned for that role and how it is
- 2:47Speaker 1: so it's changing the game for uh, you know, we
- 2:51Speaker 1: all know about Black Panther, we all know about that,
- 2:54Speaker 1: but Black Lightning is has carved out his own niches
- 2:58Speaker 1: is playing very well on net Lix. I followed it
- 3:01Speaker 1: that I went from C did you know you're hot?
- 3:03Speaker 1: When Netflix picked you up a quickly. That's a good
- 3:05Speaker 1: sign right there that you've got something going on. So
- 3:08Speaker 1: tell us about how did you audition and how your
- 3:11Speaker 1: life has changed that you've been associated with black light Well,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I got the call from my manager about a year
- 3:18Speaker 1: and a half ago that I had this audition called
- 3:20Speaker 1: black Light Man. I didn't. I never I never heard
- 3:23Speaker 1: of black Lightning. Never knew that we even had a
- 3:26Speaker 1: black superhero along with his family that was a part
- 3:30Speaker 1: of the DC universe. Never knew, So I go, I
- 3:33Speaker 1: never knew either. Don't worry about it. I never do.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I never knew. But I get the script and I
- 3:38Speaker 1: was like, first of all, knowing that Mara instantly mckill
- 3:43Speaker 1: were at the helm of it all and they were
- 3:45Speaker 1: the writers and the executive producers. I knew that this
- 3:48Speaker 1: would be a good show because their work speaks for itself.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan of their work, always wanted to
- 3:53Speaker 1: work with them. So I was first excited to read
- 3:55Speaker 1: the script because I knew they were attached to it.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Read the script and I was like, I just appreciated
- 4:01Speaker 1: the story. Most superheroes you see are, you know, in
- 4:05Speaker 1: their early twenties, and here with black Lightning, you have
- 4:09Speaker 1: a middle age man with the family who is a
- 4:12Speaker 1: high school principle. We've just never seen or heard this
- 4:14Speaker 1: story before, and I appreciated the strong bold and independent
- 4:18Speaker 1: female characters that they created within this world. So I
- 4:23Speaker 1: went in for the job and I was like, listen, y'all,
- 4:25Speaker 1: y'all looking for me. I felt so connected. I felt
- 4:29Speaker 1: so connected to the character and felt so connected to
- 4:32Speaker 1: the story that I just really went in so focused,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and I said, just go in and let them know
- 4:38Speaker 1: that you are her. And that was just the goal,
- 4:41Speaker 1: you know, to go in and show them that I
- 4:44Speaker 1: understood this character and that I was really wanting to
- 4:46Speaker 1: give my voice over to her and I under you know,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I just said everything about her world, so um, coming
- 4:52Speaker 1: from a city like Silly, I understand some of the
- 4:56Speaker 1: problems that that that the city Freeland faces within the
- 4:59Speaker 1: show and just wanting to be a voice for that
- 5:01Speaker 1: and hopefully start change, you know, with within our country,
- 5:05Speaker 1: within our cities. And um, that was pretty much my
- 5:08Speaker 1: my my audition process a minute this week. She said
- 5:14Speaker 1: a lot of good information because I want to continue
- 5:16Speaker 1: a story, but I want to feel people in the background.
- 5:18Speaker 1: She mentioned Mar Brock and her husband now Mars, some
- 5:22Speaker 1: of the work that mar has done, his girlfriends being
- 5:25Speaker 1: Mary Jane the game. Just to know a little history
- 5:28Speaker 1: about her writing sample and you know, uh in the
- 5:32Speaker 1: new series on own and so that's them. Okay to
- 5:36Speaker 1: know that about that, Okay to show black Lightning. She
- 5:40Speaker 1: has a sister, and she has a mom, and she
- 5:43Speaker 1: has a dad. That's the family dynamic that she's talking about,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and that the encompasses black Lightning. In her father's role,
- 5:50Speaker 1: he's a high school principal. Now her character is a
- 5:53Speaker 1: very defiant character. And initially on the show, Um, the
- 5:58Speaker 1: character is is a gay character. Now initially on the show,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and I want to ask about this, and as we
- 6:03Speaker 1: go through the interview process, she had a relationship. But
- 6:06Speaker 1: I thought in the beginning at bogged down the show
- 6:10Speaker 1: because the show succeeds based on the family dynamic and
- 6:14Speaker 1: how they all come together, because she has a sister
- 6:17Speaker 1: who's reluctant to be a superhero. She just wants She
- 6:19Speaker 1: just wants to have kids. She wants to be a
- 6:21Speaker 1: normal person, and she's she's trauma tized. In the series.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Now thunder Thunder all about being a superhero. She's all
- 6:29Speaker 1: about taking her power and and and and saving the community,
- 6:34Speaker 1: fixing the wrongs in the community. Of fact, her father
- 6:36Speaker 1: has to calm Thunder down. Now you can continue continue
- 6:42Speaker 1: you're excited, you can continue Thunder Thunder. She understands and
- 6:46Speaker 1: she learns that she has these superpowers, and you see
- 6:48Speaker 1: her through the first season trying to navigate and develop them.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And once this lightbulb goes off of understanding how her
- 6:55Speaker 1: powers work, she gets really really excited and really passionate,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and she believes that this is a gift from God
- 7:01Speaker 1: and she is to used it to save people who
- 7:03Speaker 1: can't say themselves. So that is her logic behind, you know,
- 7:07Speaker 1: wanting to go out and use the powers that have
- 7:10Speaker 1: been given to her. Um and as you said, uh,
- 7:13Speaker 1: my sister on the show played by China and the
- 7:15Speaker 1: claim she has a totally different feeling about having these powers.
- 7:19Speaker 1: She thinks that it makes us freaks and she's not normal,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and she just, you know, this doesn't really understand and
- 7:25Speaker 1: why her life has been you know, changed in the
- 7:29Speaker 1: in the major way that it has been. And you
- 7:31Speaker 1: can see, you know, throughout the season where I'm trying
- 7:34Speaker 1: to convince her that we have to use our God
- 7:37Speaker 1: given powers. And as you spoke on Black Lightning, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 1: dealing with the fact that his daughter has these same powers,
- 7:44Speaker 1: not the same powers, but you know they have been
- 7:46Speaker 1: given special abilities and just trying to you know, navigate
- 7:51Speaker 1: through that world of of protecting them. But also, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I have to train them because it is what it is,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and if I trained them, then hopefully, you know they'll
- 8:00Speaker 1: they'll you know, be as well off as possible when
- 8:04Speaker 1: it comes to the whole superhero world. So yeah, it's
- 8:07Speaker 1: it's it's it's really a show about a family first,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and it's not it's not that you're reminded that they're
- 8:13Speaker 1: superheroes until you see them in their costumes, when you
- 8:16Speaker 1: see them actually out fighting crime and saving people. But
- 8:18Speaker 1: it's really a show about a family and you know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: going through family problems and them trying to overcome them together,
- 8:27Speaker 1: which I thought was really cool because you don't see
- 8:29Speaker 1: a superhero, you know, with his family, as I mentioned before,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you you know, you usually see this young superhero flying
- 8:34Speaker 1: and jumping all around, and you have this family of
- 8:38Speaker 1: superheroes and and that's just an amazing concept with a
- 8:42Speaker 1: really cool idea. And kudos to everyone over at d
- 8:44Speaker 1: C and Tony, Isabella and Trevor who created you know this,
- 8:50Speaker 1: this this character. Yeah, let's let's talk about this show
- 8:53Speaker 1: here about Rushawn McDonald's Black Lightning experience, because it's really
- 8:57Speaker 1: all about me. Really, you know, I'm a fan. I'm
- 9:00Speaker 1: a fan, Okay, So so I'm seeing it being promoted.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I know. In fact, I didn't know that uh Mara,
- 9:09Speaker 1: the slave family had been involved, was involved in it
- 9:11Speaker 1: at all. I just saw this and my first thought
- 9:14Speaker 1: was they would not have the production quality. It's a
- 9:16Speaker 1: black show. I thought they wouldn't have the production quality
- 9:19Speaker 1: to deliver the special effect. That's that was my first thought.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Rushin had already made some preconceived thoughts that he wasn't
- 9:25Speaker 1: gonna watch thoughts. These are my thoughts. You know, I'm
- 9:29Speaker 1: just trying to be honest, you know, I said. You
- 9:30Speaker 1: know they probably you know they do. You know, they're
- 9:34Speaker 1: trying to get on the hype of the Black Panther
- 9:36Speaker 1: dropping this little black show in and you know, I
- 9:38Speaker 1: ain't wasted my time because I'm a superhero nut by
- 9:41Speaker 1: the way, this week, okay, okay, So so then my
- 9:44Speaker 1: wife she knows I'm a superhero nut, so she says
- 9:47Speaker 1: she watches the premiere and then she goes, you better
- 9:50Speaker 1: watch the show. I go, why you best watched the show?
- 9:54Speaker 1: You're missing something? I said, really really well whatever. So
- 9:59Speaker 1: she for three weeks went by. I didn't watch the show,
- 10:02Speaker 1: she said, and she's watching it and giving me kind
- 10:05Speaker 1: of like updates. Will you stop telling me I'm not
- 10:09Speaker 1: gonna watch the show? So I wish, she said. She
- 10:11Speaker 1: set me down. I binge watched the first three episodes.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I've missed and have not missed an episode since. You
- 10:18Speaker 1: can give me. Give me a quiz right now, a
- 10:22Speaker 1: black life, and I passed. That's how much of a
- 10:25Speaker 1: fan I am because I'm telling you why, because of
- 10:27Speaker 1: the fact that, first of all, the villains are fantastic.
- 10:31Speaker 1: The villains are fantastic. That's key to me. You know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: do the villains have credibility? Do do they throw fear
- 10:38Speaker 1: in you? Do? They do? They? Do? They do? They
- 10:40Speaker 1: map out? And then all of a sudden there is
- 10:42Speaker 1: innate danger that the secret can I get out? And
- 10:46Speaker 1: then the dynamic between their their their parents because they're divorced,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and she divorced him because he was a superhero, because
- 10:54Speaker 1: she didn't want to deal with the pressure of him
- 10:58Speaker 1: fighting crime the same thing her father. She I love
- 11:01Speaker 1: the fact that the daughter got a little to mama
- 11:03Speaker 1: and her I'm talking about the younger daughter. And then Thunder,
- 11:05Speaker 1: who I am interviewing right now. She got all daddy
- 11:08Speaker 1: and her. She all about saving the community. She all
- 11:11Speaker 1: about stepping out there. She Chiller were right now, she Thunder,
- 11:15Speaker 1: but she realizes that she can't because the people know
- 11:17Speaker 1: how to attack and know how to get the family.
- 11:19Speaker 1: That's why the superheroes can't tell her who they are.
- 11:21Speaker 1: That's why superheroes really can't have loved ones. That's why
- 11:24Speaker 1: this show works because the fact that they are family
- 11:27Speaker 1: and the fact that let's let's put his way. Uh,
- 11:31Speaker 1: it'd be like the Cosby's superheroes because they the fathers
- 11:35Speaker 1: of principle. I'm just telling you listening, the fathers of principles.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's all. That's a really recognized and good job. The
- 11:41Speaker 1: moms are scientists. She's a doctor, so that's another high
- 11:45Speaker 1: profile profession. So you have two people who got two
- 11:49Speaker 1: beautiful daughters once in high school. Wants wants your characters
- 11:53Speaker 1: finished college? Correct? No, No, she's still currently in medical school.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm saying, boy, your boys stand on top is gay
- 12:01Speaker 1: and so and so the thing about it is that
- 12:04Speaker 1: when I'm looking at these characters and watching it play out,
- 12:08Speaker 1: the fact that you went in. You say, it's kind
- 12:10Speaker 1: of like a vision board. You said, this is what
- 12:12Speaker 1: I wanted, this is who I am going to be.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I want this role, And how many times did you
- 12:17Speaker 1: audition for this role? So I went in for at
- 12:20Speaker 1: once and I didn't hear anything in almost two weeks
- 12:24Speaker 1: went by, and I was like, well, damn, I felt
- 12:25Speaker 1: like I had a really good audition. Why didn't I
- 12:28Speaker 1: hear anything. You know, typically you know, you hear a
- 12:31Speaker 1: callback within either a few days or maybe a week,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and not not all cases because in the film industry
- 12:37Speaker 1: things can change. But for the most part, I expected
- 12:40Speaker 1: to have heard something bad. I felt like I had
- 12:42Speaker 1: a really good audition. And then two weeks go by,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I hear nothing. And then then and then I get
- 12:46Speaker 1: a phone call that I didn't have a callback, that
- 12:50Speaker 1: I had a screen test. So I skipped a callback
- 12:53Speaker 1: and I went straight to the screen test where which
- 12:55Speaker 1: is when you read with the other characters who they are. Girl,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you're too much? Really a superhero? It really are superhero
- 13:04Speaker 1: doing your thing. We're gonna be back with more My
- 13:06Speaker 1: interview with the incredible superhero star of Thunder called Thunder
- 13:11Speaker 1: on the hit TV c W TV series Black Lightning.
- 13:14Speaker 1: She's change in my life. Girl. I need, I need
- 13:17Speaker 1: to be rescued. And in fact, I'm mad at you
- 13:19Speaker 1: because you're in Atlanta and you could have been in
- 13:21Speaker 1: the studio. Super fan. This for Sean McDonald, she's still
- 13:26Speaker 1: on the phone. Born and raised in this super Bowl City,
- 13:30Speaker 1: super Bowl City, the Philadelphia, home of the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 13:33Speaker 1: She's one of the stars of the new CW hit
- 13:35Speaker 1: superhero series Black Lightning. She plays the character Thunder, and
- 13:40Speaker 1: I mean she brings to Thunder and a big daddy
- 13:42Speaker 1: name Daddy on the show name is Lightning. That's where
- 13:45Speaker 1: you get this Black Lightning. Their family dynamic as a
- 13:48Speaker 1: mom has a younger daughter who's uh, who's dealing with
- 13:52Speaker 1: her powers evolving. And I want to bring it back
- 13:54Speaker 1: to the show so we can talk about the series,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but also I want to get into your boy, your
- 13:58Speaker 1: personal life, uh, the things that you're doing called Saturday Dreaming.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Let's talk about that entrepreneurship side of you, because that's
- 14:05Speaker 1: what money making conversation is about, is about entrepreneurship and entertainment.
- 14:10Speaker 1: We've really come to entertainment side of you. Let's talk
- 14:12Speaker 1: about that entrepreneurship side of you and um, because you're
- 14:16Speaker 1: really a superhero in that line of work too. Thank you,
- 14:20Speaker 1: thank you. Yes, So Saturday Dreaming, I'm sure you guys
- 14:23Speaker 1: have all heard of the store Forever, Yes, yes, So
- 14:28Speaker 1: I was always inspired by that store because, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I remember my days of being in college. I remember
- 14:33Speaker 1: my days of first starting out in the industry and
- 14:35Speaker 1: not really having you know, the budget to shop, you know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: the way I may have wanted to, but I knew
- 14:41Speaker 1: I could always go to Forever twenty one with just say,
- 14:44Speaker 1: fifty bucks and put an entire book together. And I
- 14:47Speaker 1: was always inspired by the idea of that and always
- 14:50Speaker 1: wanting to, you know, provide that same experience for for
- 14:55Speaker 1: for other women. Young women following their dreams in schools,
- 14:58Speaker 1: just starting their careers may have not had the budget
- 15:01Speaker 1: to look like, you know, they've made it already, right,
- 15:06Speaker 1: you can come to Saturday Dreaming and you can accomplish that,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you know. So it's for the woman, the young girl
- 15:11Speaker 1: boss who's following her dreams. But what's the because that
- 15:13Speaker 1: she's already made it, and you can come to Saturday
- 15:15Speaker 1: Dreaming and you can shop on the budget, you can
- 15:17Speaker 1: be inspired, and you can look fabulous all while doing that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: And you know, I teamed up with my best friend
- 15:22Speaker 1: since I was thirteen years old, and you know, we
- 15:25Speaker 1: we started Saturday Dreaming about two and a half years
- 15:27Speaker 1: ago and it's going well, it's going three. And the
- 15:30Speaker 1: mission was to make it affordable for for young women
- 15:34Speaker 1: who are you know, following their dreams and not having
- 15:38Speaker 1: the budget, but you know, having enough to where you
- 15:42Speaker 1: can come to Saturday dream and then we're gonna take
- 15:44Speaker 1: care of you or we're gonna make sure you can
- 15:45Speaker 1: do it affordably and you know, just give you that confidence.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Let's talk about that now. Did you started this idea
- 15:52Speaker 1: before black lighting? So you was like, so, so, what
- 15:56Speaker 1: were you in in your life at that point? You know,
- 15:58Speaker 1: you still auditioning then you're about to start this, Uh
- 16:01Speaker 1: it's uh, there's a business seven dreaming. Yeah, I was auditioning,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and I was also saying, you know, don't wait for
- 16:10Speaker 1: anyone to give you a job to start making money.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Don't wait, you know, for things to happen if you're
- 16:17Speaker 1: inspired by this idea just started. You know, I'd like
- 16:19Speaker 1: to think of myself as an entity and and I
- 16:22Speaker 1: have many business ideas and you know, many business plans
- 16:25Speaker 1: that I will execute and this was just one of them.
- 16:28Speaker 1: And I love acting, but I love fashion just as much.
- 16:31Speaker 1: So this was an outlet for me to walk in
- 16:34Speaker 1: that side of my dream. So now you're you're you're
- 16:37Speaker 1: interesting because like I said, you know, you're attractive, So
- 16:40Speaker 1: the modeling aspect of your life, I can understand that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: But you're working in the d a's office. Now, I
- 16:47Speaker 1: was working in the d a's office. I thought I
- 16:49Speaker 1: was returning just to could turn this office right. Yes,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and I was working in the homicide unit, so I
- 16:55Speaker 1: sat in on actual homicide trials and cases and help
- 16:59Speaker 1: do something you at that point, how old were you then?
- 17:02Speaker 1: I was, I was still in college. I was nice
- 17:07Speaker 1: nineteen nineteen twenty. This is about a year before I
- 17:10Speaker 1: graduated college. So yeah, I was working in the d
- 17:14Speaker 1: a's office and I thought I wanted to be a
- 17:17Speaker 1: lawyer and it was great, but I said, you know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: you got to really follow the visions and the dreams
- 17:21Speaker 1: that got you know and still don't use from when
- 17:23Speaker 1: you were a kid. And I had an audition. Well,
- 17:27Speaker 1: I was working at the law firm. See you you're funny,
- 17:32Speaker 1: so you do why you're funny because you've got a
- 17:34Speaker 1: good story, but you all over the place. You know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: first of all, you know, you're modeling, and then all
- 17:39Speaker 1: of a sudden, you're you're at the d a's office.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Now your audition. Okay, so you so you were acting
- 17:44Speaker 1: and working at these offers at the same time and
- 17:46Speaker 1: going to college and going to college. I was yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and I said, you know what, I have an audition.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I asked him if I could take off. I went
- 17:58Speaker 1: anyway and five and that was That was the best
- 18:03Speaker 1: day of my life and the beginning of the rest
- 18:06Speaker 1: of it. So so this would always tell people, because
- 18:10Speaker 1: I love this part of the story. I would tell people,
- 18:12Speaker 1: there are twenty four hours in a day. Learn to
- 18:14Speaker 1: take advantage of every hour. And that's what you're telling
- 18:17Speaker 1: me that you did with your life and you're still
- 18:19Speaker 1: doing with your life. There was a point in your
- 18:21Speaker 1: life where, even at that young age two, you're a
- 18:24Speaker 1: conscious decision. Look norm in college. I know I want
- 18:28Speaker 1: to act, so I gotta work on that craft. I
- 18:30Speaker 1: want to audition, and I'm at the d But we
- 18:33Speaker 1: all knew that the d a's office wasn't what you
- 18:35Speaker 1: wanted to be. That's not the place you wanted to
- 18:37Speaker 1: be so so they actually did your favor, did your
- 18:41Speaker 1: favorite by firing me. And that was the first day.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Since that day, I started going to New York and auditioning,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and then I booked the soap opera One Like to Live.
- 18:50Speaker 1: And you know, things just took off for me because
- 18:53Speaker 1: you because you finally was giving one. Since so people
- 18:56Speaker 1: operating on that B plan. So you you put everything
- 18:59Speaker 1: in the A plan, aid everything. There is no B plan.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Planing B is to make plan a world. There you go.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Now she's getting girl. I keep telling she got some jewels. Man,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you just let her talk long enough. She's gonna change
- 19:11Speaker 1: the world now, because because that's what I tell people,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you hold them. I remember I left IBM to do
- 19:18Speaker 1: stand up comedy. In the back of my mind, it
- 19:21Speaker 1: was like I could always go back to IBM, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I always felt that. But but that was the wrong
- 19:26Speaker 1: thought process because if I wanted to stand i'd be
- 19:30Speaker 1: I should have stayed. Understand that if you want to
- 19:33Speaker 1: go back to something and it's tempting you to go back,
- 19:36Speaker 1: go back. But if you quit it, that was a
- 19:39Speaker 1: reason you quit the problem. You there was no going back.
- 19:44Speaker 1: So des office gone you got one like to Live?
- 19:47Speaker 1: How did you get to the West Coast? I got
- 19:49Speaker 1: to the West Coast. So I booked the series regular
- 19:52Speaker 1: on on one like to Live, and then, if you
- 19:54Speaker 1: can remember, one, Like to Live got canceled and it
- 19:58Speaker 1: was replaced by the A Food of food reality like
- 20:02Speaker 1: a food talk show. I know about that you. So
- 20:04Speaker 1: we got canceled. The shoe came on, so I was
- 20:07Speaker 1: I was so devastated. I was like, oh my goodness,
- 20:10Speaker 1: Like what am I gonna do? And I was like,
- 20:13Speaker 1: you know what, now it's time to take what's on
- 20:15Speaker 1: your resume and go to l A. So I went
- 20:17Speaker 1: to l A. I tried it out for about a month.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I booked two jobs and I was like, I called
- 20:22Speaker 1: my family and was like, I'm not coming back to
- 20:24Speaker 1: the East Coast, like I'm staying here and here we
- 20:27Speaker 1: are today. Okay, but you in Atlanta though? Are you
- 20:30Speaker 1: based in the Atlanta? Yeah? I'm here in Atlanta because
- 20:33Speaker 1: you know, we're feel in the show here. Okay, cool,
- 20:35Speaker 1: all right? You know I was just about to get
- 20:38Speaker 1: on your case. There's now now when y'all started taping,
- 20:43Speaker 1: when does it rap? And then we talked about black
- 20:46Speaker 1: lightning by the way, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah, so we
- 20:48Speaker 1: started taping. We're about we're now in our third episode
- 20:53Speaker 1: and we wrap up I believe early next year, give
- 20:55Speaker 1: or take. Okay, cool, So let me set the stage
- 20:58Speaker 1: for the show. Okay, we'll where it ended. Okay, y'all
- 21:01Speaker 1: was running down the street. All came to the front
- 21:03Speaker 1: of the house. You know, everybody's kind of got back together.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Your younger sister, her powers are starting to evolve. She
- 21:10Speaker 1: saved her father's life with her problems. She has kind
- 21:13Speaker 1: of like electricity, right, that's what she has, a kind
- 21:15Speaker 1: of like exactly, she has the same power as as
- 21:18Speaker 1: black Lightning. She's lightning. She's lightning because she here here
- 21:22Speaker 1: he needed to the heart needs to be restarted. So
- 21:25Speaker 1: she had a jotap. So she for the first time
- 21:27Speaker 1: she used her powers intentionally. So we're there now. The mother,
- 21:32Speaker 1: she's kind of like a comeback into the family, kind
- 21:34Speaker 1: of like the Obi wan Kenobi. You know, she knows
- 21:37Speaker 1: she she has to be there. She has to accept
- 21:40Speaker 1: the values and the and the purpose of her family
- 21:43Speaker 1: is being put here because black Lightning. She really because
- 21:46Speaker 1: you know, early on, before you know, you go out
- 21:49Speaker 1: that fight. He come back beat up. She just couldn't
- 21:51Speaker 1: deal with the emotional trauma of that. Yeah, because it's
- 21:54Speaker 1: like an addiction, heaven to heaven powers you know, can
- 21:57Speaker 1: be addictive. And she's like, I can't watch you go
- 22:00Speaker 1: through the ups, ups and downs of your addiction. He
- 22:04Speaker 1: became addicted and she was, you know, in the middle
- 22:07Speaker 1: of that. So she decided to leave. It was sad,
- 22:09Speaker 1: but they're you know, they're trying to work on it.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Will see how things go. Well, they're gonna go great.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And before we go, I want to talk about some
- 22:16Speaker 1: of the get back program you work with, the Skid
- 22:18Speaker 1: Role campaign do Let's talk about that before we go,
- 22:23Speaker 1: because I want to just let everybody's shape or your lifestyle.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You know that you do have time for the for individuals,
- 22:29Speaker 1: your character that you just you do a TV really
- 22:32Speaker 1: transcend to your everyday life. Tell us about your efforts
- 22:34Speaker 1: in the community. Thank you. I just believe that, you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's our duty to serve and to give back, especially
- 22:41Speaker 1: when you've been blessed so much. Much has given, much
- 22:43Speaker 1: is required, and I believe that the secreted service, you know,
- 22:47Speaker 1: and we're we're put here to bless each other in too.
- 22:50Speaker 1: You know, inspire and empower each other. And that's pretty
- 22:52Speaker 1: much my life mission, I believe. You know. Um, life
- 22:56Speaker 1: begins when you start to follow your dreams and understand
- 22:58Speaker 1: what your purposes. And in the once you understand what
- 23:01Speaker 1: your purpose is, your job next is to help the
- 23:04Speaker 1: next person, you know, discover what THEIRS is and encourage
- 23:08Speaker 1: them to follow theirs. So um, that's just basically, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 1: I try to live by that rule. I go down
- 23:14Speaker 1: to ski Road while I was going when I was
- 23:16Speaker 1: in l A. And I try to go when I
- 23:18Speaker 1: when I you know, when I'm not filming, but it's
- 23:21Speaker 1: the Peggy Beatrice Foundation and we go down to Skiar Road.
- 23:24Speaker 1: We closed, we feed, we pray, you know, just incur
- 23:27Speaker 1: sometimes just listen, you know, being a listening ear. And
- 23:31Speaker 1: I love doing it. I'm most happy when I'm when
- 23:34Speaker 1: i'm serving and when i'm giving. So um, that's that's
- 23:37Speaker 1: definitely one of one of my favorite things to be doing.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And I get please keep doing it really quickly. Tell
