- 1:24Speaker 1: My next guest when I you know I was talking
- 1:26Speaker 1: about when I was money making conversations always bring up
- 1:28Speaker 1: the fact that, uh, multiple layers of income. It's really
- 1:32Speaker 1: import My next cast truly understands multiple streams of income.
- 1:36Speaker 1: He is a multi talent actor, writer, director, and entrepreneur,
- 1:41Speaker 1: which is an understatement. He not only co stars on
- 1:44Speaker 1: ABC's award winning sitcom Blackish, but was also in but
- 1:48Speaker 1: also it, was a full time writer and co starred
- 1:50Speaker 1: on the star series Survival Remorse. That's the show I
- 1:53Speaker 1: saw him when he came over last time that I
- 1:55Speaker 1: was totally in love with him as a as an
- 1:57Speaker 1: actor and found about his entrepreneurs hip background and were
- 2:01Speaker 1: just fans for life now. He has also guest starred
- 2:04Speaker 1: in a recurring role for three seasons on the Fax
- 2:07Speaker 1: sister channel f x X You're the Worst. His latest
- 2:11Speaker 1: role is starting opposite Tracy Morgan, also on that show,
- 2:14Speaker 1: My boy Cedric the entertainer in the new TVs comedy
- 2:18Speaker 1: series The Last O g and You Can can also
- 2:21Speaker 1: be seen in the Netflix original feature film First Match,
- 2:24Speaker 1: now streaming on Netflix. In addition to his own stream work,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I gotta say all this stuff because y'all need to
- 2:29Speaker 1: know who Alan is. My next get developed Everybody Digital,
- 2:33Speaker 1: the industry's first streaming app focusing exclusively on short films
- 2:37Speaker 1: and short form contact content. Please work with the money
- 2:41Speaker 1: making conversation, Alan mal Donado. Hey, that's a beautiful intro. Brother.
- 2:52Speaker 1: You know, only my mother, only my mother could have
- 2:54Speaker 1: gave me a better appreciated I was sitting up the
- 2:59Speaker 1: high you know, I'm going, you know, because you know
- 3:03Speaker 1: the thing about your talents, man, because you know I'm
- 3:04Speaker 1: a big fan based on the last time you was
- 3:06Speaker 1: on my show. Yeah, I know, I remember we had
- 3:09Speaker 1: a great conversation and and the thing about that said, Okay,
- 3:11Speaker 1: that one break wasn't enough. We're gonna do two breaks
- 3:14Speaker 1: this time because we really want to talk about you know,
- 3:16Speaker 1: because we were having such a good time. Next thing,
- 3:17Speaker 1: you know, I gotta go, gotta go, because the whole
- 3:21Speaker 1: thing about it is that when money made conversations, I
- 3:24Speaker 1: bring talent like you on the show. Because the fact
- 3:27Speaker 1: that the whole concept of multiple streams of income, that's
- 3:32Speaker 1: a philosophy. It seems that you understand. Can you tell
- 3:35Speaker 1: the audience why that that's part of your mantra? Well,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I kind of I kind of see, um, the multiple
- 3:43Speaker 1: streating income kind of think of it is in seasons
- 3:46Speaker 1: as there's you know, in in in crops, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 1: there's certain things that grow in different seasons. So you know, um,
- 3:56Speaker 1: in the winter, there's certain things that that won't grow
- 3:58Speaker 1: that bring things that are going summer. So that's how
- 4:03Speaker 1: it is when when you're multiple streas and income, you
- 4:05Speaker 1: can survive different seasons when other things are not going
- 4:09Speaker 1: are not growing right, still maintained, and you're not. My
- 4:13Speaker 1: thing is you're not a slave to one uh one income,
- 4:17Speaker 1: meaning that one income doesn't exist anymore. Now you're you're
- 4:22Speaker 1: you know, you're out of luck now you're you know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: you're you're you're you're not able to pay your bills. Um,
- 4:28Speaker 1: So you're never a slave to one thing being that
- 4:32Speaker 1: you can make. You can make moral decisions rather than
- 4:35Speaker 1: just financial sur bibal decisions. Especially in entertainment, you can
- 4:42Speaker 1: find yourself doing things or doing stuff that you don't
- 4:44Speaker 1: want to do morally just to pay the bills. And
- 4:48Speaker 1: that's something that I wanted to position myself that I
- 4:50Speaker 1: never never had to do that never. That's really important
- 4:54Speaker 1: because of the fact that even when I when I
- 4:56Speaker 1: was talking to you about you was on Blackish, you
- 4:59Speaker 1: know you when you're then you. I saw you on
- 5:01Speaker 1: Stars and then you as a writer on Stars before
- 5:04Speaker 1: you started appearing in front of the camera. So when
- 5:07Speaker 1: you start making these transitions, just I got just going
- 5:10Speaker 1: to the people walk into your mindset. When when when
- 5:13Speaker 1: you see an opportunity that's presented to you, a lot
- 5:15Speaker 1: of people fear it. You know a lot of people,
- 5:16Speaker 1: Oh that's changed and that's too much work. You seem
- 5:19Speaker 1: to embrace it. Um, well, this is everything that I'm
- 5:24Speaker 1: doing now I said I was gonna do when I
- 5:26Speaker 1: was seventeen years old, right, this is this has been
- 5:29Speaker 1: a plan This has been something that I've been striving
- 5:32Speaker 1: for for for years. UM, so when I didn't know
- 5:37Speaker 1: exactly how I would all play out. But all of
- 5:40Speaker 1: these ideas and concepts and positions that I've taken on
- 5:45Speaker 1: have been something that I've I've wanted to do. And
- 5:48Speaker 1: sometimes sometimes things are stemmed from other ideas. As acting
- 5:53Speaker 1: was the you know the root of everything, right, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: you know all of these other things that have been
- 5:59Speaker 1: fruits of that, read writing, the music, you know, the
- 6:03Speaker 1: kids foundation, the T shirt company that in the in
- 6:06Speaker 1: the streaming app all of these have been like fruits
- 6:08Speaker 1: of that. So um, when whenever these opportunities cabinets, you
- 6:15Speaker 1: know what are the opportunity? Good luck is when the
- 6:17Speaker 1: opportunity meets preparation and including a great attitude. I think
- 6:22Speaker 1: Denzel said that, you know, if you have those three things,
- 6:25Speaker 1: that's what luck creates. In Um. When the opportunity came
- 6:29Speaker 1: for me to transit from an actor to a writer,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I was already prepared when I was nineteen. For seventeen nineteen,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I was groomed and mentored by Michael Caine, who wrote
- 6:40Speaker 1: all the right moves from Time Crews and UH several
- 6:44Speaker 1: other movies in like the eighties and seventies, of the
- 6:47Speaker 1: seventies and eighties. Um, So that was kind of in
- 6:49Speaker 1: my back pocket since I was like, you know, see
- 6:52Speaker 1: I wrote for him for almost three or four years, um,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and I was very blessed to have an opportunity in education.
- 6:59Speaker 1: So uh, it was one of those things when you said,
- 7:02Speaker 1: when the opportunity each preparation and and I had to
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, definitely give a shout out to michael'malley who
- 7:08Speaker 1: gave him my um my shot as a professional w
- 7:11Speaker 1: G a writer for Survivors Remorse and really if y'all
- 7:16Speaker 1: not have not seen that serious don't sleep on the storms.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah it's beautiful man, you know for Lebron Lebron James project.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, you know, another guy with multiple strains
- 7:30Speaker 1: of income exactly exactly, and you know, and meeting his
- 7:35Speaker 1: whole team, they're they're phenomenal. Maverick Is is an incredible mind.
- 7:40Speaker 1: He's always you know, thinking the multiple strings investments and
- 7:44Speaker 1: and like that's that's the game. I love. Uh, the
- 7:48Speaker 1: idea of currency being related to current you know, as
- 7:52Speaker 1: a river, they have to keep moving. Money shouldn't be
- 7:55Speaker 1: stagnant and should be always moving and growing and pushing
- 7:58Speaker 1: and get more proful. Let's talk about your new your
- 8:01Speaker 1: latest endeavor, your latest streaming level of income. The last
- 8:05Speaker 1: o g on TBS. We're crazy man, Tracy Morgan, you're
- 8:08Speaker 1: playing cousin Bobby. Tell us about that, tell us about
- 8:11Speaker 1: how you got the opportunity there, and tell us about
- 8:13Speaker 1: your role. Oh wow. Um, well, I went to do
- 8:17Speaker 1: the traditional audition process, um, and what was very special
- 8:22Speaker 1: was on the screen test. And so some people that
- 8:24Speaker 1: may not know what the screen test is. That's when
- 8:26Speaker 1: you you audition with the actual star showing it. You
- 8:29Speaker 1: get to test the chemistry and see if you guys
- 8:32Speaker 1: are actually even you know, um compatible, and it comes
- 8:37Speaker 1: to you know, sharing the screen and the chemistry. Yeah, exactly.
- 8:42Speaker 1: So as soon as I walked through the door, before
- 8:44Speaker 1: I can even get through it, Tracy screams our cousin Bob,
- 8:48Speaker 1: and we start going. I started going, and we start
- 8:52Speaker 1: going and we literally improve what's your team and it's straight.
- 8:55Speaker 1: We did not touch one scene from the audition that
- 8:58Speaker 1: was prepared, and our chemistry was so instant. I think
- 9:03Speaker 1: that was what really won over the producers and Jordan's
- 9:06Speaker 1: peel to book me as a role and it's as
- 9:09Speaker 1: sports and now uh, the character cousin Bobby, he's you know,
- 9:14Speaker 1: kind of like an idiots to find on the show.
- 9:16Speaker 1: He's um. Um, he's not the sharpest tool in the shape,
- 9:21Speaker 1: but it's it's so smart. It's smart. You know, sometimes
- 9:26Speaker 1: a little, but he's smart. Um. And he's he's basically
- 9:31Speaker 1: the bridge between Tracy's past to his future. Um. And
- 9:36Speaker 1: he has some reacting to society getting me you know back,
- 9:40Speaker 1: he's been going for fifteen years and you know, bring
- 9:43Speaker 1: him up to speed from smartphone at Dayton now reuniting
- 9:47Speaker 1: him with his too to his new too found twins. Um.
- 9:53Speaker 1: So it's it's, it's, it's it's when I tell you
- 9:56Speaker 1: hanging out with Tray and Learnt had this and I
- 10:01Speaker 1: forgot that. Jordan pel this is hell. This is his show.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Get out, come on like get out for a script
- 10:08Speaker 1: Oscar now, you know, so you're just amazed around Now.
- 10:11Speaker 1: When we come back, Jordan, I'm gonna talk about everybody digital,
- 10:14Speaker 1: get it done, records, then yours find us only some
- 10:17Speaker 1: production and demo nerds. We'll be right back with more.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Alan maul Donado, multiple streets of income. I just resht McDonald.
- 10:27Speaker 1: You're listening to Money Making Conversations on the phone with
- 10:30Speaker 1: Alan maul Donado. I love this guy for two reasons.
- 10:34Speaker 1: He understands the principle of taking advantage of an opportunity.
- 10:37Speaker 1: He doesn't allow fear to step in the way of
- 10:40Speaker 1: slowing down an opportunity. He understands the value of multiple
- 10:43Speaker 1: streams of income. And also he's an entrepreneur in the
- 10:46Speaker 1: words he's he has a base and uses that base
- 10:49Speaker 1: to explore other positive opportunities. Uh, did I miss anything,
- 10:53Speaker 1: Alan Man? Not not a not a thing. Now, Let's
- 10:57Speaker 1: let's talk about that. Let's this is what we missed
- 10:59Speaker 1: last time because we was at that the one break.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So I talked about the acting career, that whole foundation,
- 11:04Speaker 1: how you got rolled, how you got rolled. But the
- 11:06Speaker 1: thing that inspires me the most about you, and while
- 11:09Speaker 1: your own money making conversations is the whole aspect of
- 11:12Speaker 1: the several businesses in your foundation. I just want to
- 11:15Speaker 1: walk down each one and you just give us a
- 11:16Speaker 1: clear explanation of why it's important and why you do it.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Let's start with everybody Digital Okay, Well, Everybody's Digital Man
- 11:24Speaker 1: was something that I wanted to create for my short filmmakers,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and it was it was definitely avoid um that needed
- 11:32Speaker 1: to be filled in the short film genre, being that
- 11:36Speaker 1: it's the most overlooked portion of the industry, being that
- 11:41Speaker 1: all of your favorite actors and favorite stars, producers, directors
- 11:44Speaker 1: at some point participate in the short film genre, and
- 11:48Speaker 1: the industry has yet to grow out of all the
- 11:50Speaker 1: years that you know, filmmaking is has been, you know,
- 11:53Speaker 1: been been, everybody's been doing films. So with the with
- 11:58Speaker 1: the explosion of like Instagram buying and short form content,
- 12:03Speaker 1: I felt that it would only be right that short
- 12:05Speaker 1: films finally get their just do by creating a concentrated
- 12:10Speaker 1: platform specific for short films UM and catering to those
- 12:15Speaker 1: individuals that are short on time, being that you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: everybody short on time. Now, everybody got like ten fifteen
- 12:21Speaker 1: minutes in between something that they looked to enjoy. And
- 12:24Speaker 1: that's why social media and Instagram and all of these
- 12:27Speaker 1: things have exploded because everybody it's something that you could
- 12:30Speaker 1: do while doing other things. You can multitas, you can
- 12:33Speaker 1: have multiple streams of entertainment having at once UM. So
- 12:37Speaker 1: that's what everybody did. It was created for UM just
- 12:41Speaker 1: fulfill those needs for our consumers. Um, how does how
- 12:47Speaker 1: does want? It's an app? I'm assuming correct, Yes, it's
- 12:50Speaker 1: a That's what I was getting to. Okay, sorry needs
- 12:54Speaker 1: Please go to Apple Store and download. It is for free.
- 12:58Speaker 1: And if you're a filmmaker, if you would like your
- 13:00Speaker 1: film to be in the on the app, please go
- 13:03Speaker 1: to everybody Digital dot com and you could upload it
- 13:05Speaker 1: there and we'll curate. We've in curating films um for
- 13:09Speaker 1: the past year and a half. We got tons of
- 13:12Speaker 1: tons of award winning films from around the world. Um.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And we're shooting and producing original short films every month.
- 13:19Speaker 1: We actually just yesterday, well on Saturday, we're shooting the
- 13:23Speaker 1: film called The Father's Love as being co produced by
- 13:26Speaker 1: myself and Jesse Tu from Survivors. Remorse, Um, we gotta
- 13:31Speaker 1: we get it's the star Sheena um from Survivors or
- 13:35Speaker 1: more like we got one with Dion Cold qualified I
- 13:39Speaker 1: mean called white comedians laugh. So basically everybody from all
- 13:46Speaker 1: the shows and I'm owner are participating in my shorts,
- 13:48Speaker 1: which is a blessing. Um. But that's about but that's
- 13:52Speaker 1: about relationships. You understand relationships and the value because in
- 13:56Speaker 1: this business you talked about you know how you got
- 13:59Speaker 1: in the writing. That was a relationship that got your
- 14:00Speaker 1: role in that direction. That's why it's important to people
- 14:03Speaker 1: understand that you're never gonna make it by yourself. You're
- 14:06Speaker 1: gonna make a man. People, UH help you out, point
- 14:09Speaker 1: you in the right direction and guess what you have
- 14:11Speaker 1: to be a good person for longevity. Now let's go
- 14:14Speaker 1: to get it Done records. Now what is get it
- 14:16Speaker 1: done records? Get the records we focused on is we're
- 14:20Speaker 1: music placement company, being that we focused on TV, making
- 14:24Speaker 1: music for TV and film. UM. I have hundreds of
- 14:27Speaker 1: placements on pretty much all the networks that are out
- 14:30Speaker 1: from right Donovan House Lives to even Bruce Willis's last film,
- 14:35Speaker 1: Acts of Violence, to the Next Three Days to um
- 14:40Speaker 1: we we've done. We've done in music and overseas with
- 14:44Speaker 1: Americatop Model and Zealand to the Voice in Australia, places
- 14:49Speaker 1: in films in Germany, France, Italy. Um And It's something
- 14:54Speaker 1: that I always talked to my fellow musicians and music
- 14:57Speaker 1: makers that there's more than one the way, multiple streams
- 15:01Speaker 1: of income in music. You don't have to be jay Z,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you know, make a living out of music and um
- 15:08Speaker 1: and and the way I did it was I figured
- 15:11Speaker 1: with music, with TV and film that was that was
- 15:14Speaker 1: my lane. And especially it goes it plants from that
- 15:17Speaker 1: seed of acting. And you know all of my TV
- 15:19Speaker 1: shows that I'm on, I easily get a placement in
- 15:22Speaker 1: uh just organically from being a part of the part
- 15:25Speaker 1: of the production, like I got music in Black Jesus um.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And the crazy thing, why did theyn't even know that
- 15:30Speaker 1: they picked music from our company? That's awesome. So you're
- 15:36Speaker 1: in there acting getting that check and you get music
- 15:38Speaker 1: getting that check. That's right, that's right. So um so yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 1: that's something that we created eight years ago and with
- 15:44Speaker 1: the gene Crown and thank you. Okay, says every everybody digital.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Now we get it done right because now we got
- 15:51Speaker 1: venue to find us. Yes, yes, that is my T
- 15:55Speaker 1: shirt company where um we we we proportion of the
- 15:59Speaker 1: proceeds ose towards my Kids Foundation um uh demo nerds um.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And it's something that was helped was created to help
- 16:07Speaker 1: raise funds to provide free acting class for foster kids
- 16:10Speaker 1: that received that. This is a T shirt company. Yeah,
- 16:13Speaker 1: it's my T shirt company. Um and it's you know,
- 16:17Speaker 1: if the name stems from the area that I grew
- 16:19Speaker 1: up in, uh in rialt To, California. It was a
- 16:23Speaker 1: pretty kind of rough pocket at the time, and I
- 16:27Speaker 1: wanted to be able to change the narrative with the name,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you know, being that it had had a bad undertone
- 16:35Speaker 1: at one point, but now we're looking to change that
- 16:37Speaker 1: with the company and what the company does for these
- 16:40Speaker 1: particular kids. UM transitioned into the what what we're doing
- 16:44Speaker 1: it for Demo Nerds. Denmo Nerds is My Kids Foundation
- 16:47Speaker 1: where we UM we serviced at risk and foster kids
- 16:51Speaker 1: with an acting camp. It's a two week camp where
- 16:55Speaker 1: the first week we teach them acting and film. The
- 16:56Speaker 1: second week they get what time is? What time in
- 16:59Speaker 1: the years to Yeah, it's throughout it's usually my schedule
- 17:03Speaker 1: permits UM. So we're actually doing a big event uh
- 17:07Speaker 1: in May in the later end of May. It's on
- 17:11Speaker 1: a big career day thank you UM. Where in the
- 17:14Speaker 1: second week they create their own short film and at
- 17:17Speaker 1: the last day we have a red carpet gala. We
- 17:21Speaker 1: have the kids pressed up and stuff to give them up.
- 17:23Speaker 1: We have pressed They screened the film in front of
- 17:27Speaker 1: their friends and family and the community and it's I mean,
- 17:30Speaker 1: it's extremely trans it's transformational for these kids. Um, I've
- 17:35Speaker 1: been doing it for the past six years. It's it's
- 17:38Speaker 1: it's been you know, I will say this, My career
- 17:42Speaker 1: didn't explode until I began doing the stuff for the kids.
- 17:45Speaker 1: And that's you know, that's a testament of when you
- 17:47Speaker 1: give back. You know, it's it's food for the soul,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but it's also you know, it's also you know, one
- 17:54Speaker 1: of those when you give back. Yeah, it's a balance.
- 17:57Speaker 1: When they give back, it's you know, God gets back
- 17:59Speaker 1: to you, you know so and the thing about it,
- 18:01Speaker 1: but it's not you just gave back and like you're
- 18:03Speaker 1: just telling everybody, Look, I didn't plan to to get
- 18:06Speaker 1: any rewards to get back, right right, to get that
- 18:11Speaker 1: you genuinely in giving back you receive more. And that's
- 18:15Speaker 1: just a balance. That's just a balance of life. You know.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with cousin Bobby from the new
- 18:22Speaker 1: series O TPS. You didn't catch it every Tuesday. That's
- 18:26Speaker 1: the last O G with stars heavily promoted, uh, Tracy Morgan,
