Moses was at the burning bush standing before God—the consuming fire who chooses not to consume—and God commands him to go to Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Numerous films, plays, and books have depicted this moment with sacred gravity. And yet the reality of Moses’ response to God’s command is comfortingly ordinary: “O my Lord, please send someone else!” (Exodus 4:13)
