- 2:48Speaker 1: TV journalist is on the show today to discuss her
- 2:51Speaker 1: new book, Don't Be a Victim, Fighting Back against America's
- 2:54Speaker 1: Crime Wave. Please work with the Money Making Conversation A
- 2:57Speaker 1: true crime Fighter Nancy Race. Wow, that was some intro.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm very flattered, but I'm also very honored to be
- 3:08Speaker 1: on with you and thank you for inviting me, Well,
- 3:11Speaker 1: thank you for coming on the show. Because I have
- 3:13Speaker 1: a twenty three yeard daughter and and i've and so
- 3:17Speaker 1: I raised her in the Nancy Grays era. Okay, watching
- 3:20Speaker 1: you taking that advice, you know what I'm saying, And
- 3:23Speaker 1: my wife always say, well, I said, look, look, we're
- 3:26Speaker 1: not gonna do it in the nasy aggressive We shouldn't
- 3:28Speaker 1: do that. And so when I when I got to
- 3:29Speaker 1: this book, it was kind of like a journey down
- 3:32Speaker 1: memory lane for me and watching your career because you've
- 3:35Speaker 1: always been open, You've always been honest about your passion
- 3:39Speaker 1: for making sure we don't make the mistake or even
- 3:41Speaker 1: the mistake that you have made, because you've told us
- 3:43Speaker 1: you've made mistakes and people around you have made mistake.
- 3:46Speaker 1: What was the what was the core reason for writing
- 3:49Speaker 1: this particular book? You know, um, that's a really good question.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I'll tell you why. Because I want to change the world.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I want to make a difference. And yes, uh, trying
- 4:06Speaker 1: to find missing people, especially children, trying to solve unsolved homicides,
- 4:11Speaker 1: trying to figure out cold cases. I guess that does
- 4:15Speaker 1: make a difference. But you know what, I was used
- 4:17Speaker 1: to getting immediate gratification, when I tried cases, I would work, work, work,
- 4:22Speaker 1: just beat the streets to get all the witnesses, all
- 4:25Speaker 1: the information, all the evidence, like good, take it to jury,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and by the end of the trial, be it three
- 4:30Speaker 1: days or three weeks or three months, I'd have an answer, right,
- 4:34Speaker 1: m Not so when you're on TV, not so when
- 4:38Speaker 1: you're on radio, not so when you're writing articles for
- 4:42Speaker 1: your website. You never really know if you have an impact.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I wanted to do more. Therefore, I wanted to take
- 4:50Speaker 1: all those years of investigating, all those years of covering
- 4:54Speaker 1: cases and try to make a difference. And that's what
- 4:56Speaker 1: I did with the book. And you really did. You
- 4:59Speaker 1: really did, and a sad part because you documented the
- 5:02Speaker 1: book with actual stories. And the reason I like that
- 5:04Speaker 1: is because a lot of people you give people advice
- 5:07Speaker 1: and they kind of blow you off. I'm just not
- 5:08Speaker 1: saying you, I'm just sending you in general, you can
- 5:10Speaker 1: hold up before you blow me off. And reading this book,
- 5:13Speaker 1: here's a true story and this is what happened to
- 5:15Speaker 1: these people. And I think that was really key strategy
- 5:18Speaker 1: and putting together in this book. Correct, Oh, it really is. Here.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Here's the thing. Um, you know, I don't know if
- 5:26Speaker 1: you noticed this, But did you notice that christ always
- 5:28Speaker 1: talked in parable? You know why because I can understand them.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Even me, I get it. I may not understand what
- 5:35Speaker 1: you were saying, but if it weren't for those parable
- 5:37Speaker 1: But I would try to explain the law to a jury,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I would use examples. For instance, when I would explain
- 5:45Speaker 1: circumstantial events, I would say, you go in your office building.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Its building. It's bright and bright and shiny outside. But
- 5:52Speaker 1: by the end of the day, by the time you
- 5:54Speaker 1: come out of your building, you see women rushing by,
- 5:59Speaker 1: hugging their rain comes to their chest. You see people
- 6:01Speaker 1: running by with umbrellas. You notice pools of water on
- 6:06Speaker 1: the sidewalk. You don't have to see the storm to
- 6:09Speaker 1: know that it rained. That's a circumstantial evidence. Okay, So
- 6:14Speaker 1: when I started writing the book, I thought, how can
- 6:17Speaker 1: I explain and help people based on what I've learned
- 6:21Speaker 1: through all the cases I prosecuted, all the cases I've covered.
- 6:25Speaker 1: The only way is to give an example. You really
- 6:29Speaker 1: and they were really good about. The sad part about
- 6:31Speaker 1: it is that this is just a few of many
- 6:33Speaker 1: stories you could have put in the book. That's the
- 6:35Speaker 1: really tragic part. About this is that this was not
- 6:38Speaker 1: like a rare These are not rare stories. These are
- 6:41Speaker 1: stories that you chose that you can you can you
- 6:43Speaker 1: can consolidate, get to the beginning, middle of and real fast.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But there's so many stories out there that could have
- 6:49Speaker 1: filled these pages, and there's a wonderful read. I'm talking
- 6:52Speaker 1: to Nancy Gracie's on the show talking about her new book,
- 6:55Speaker 1: Fantastic Book. It officially comes out September twenty second, but
- 6:58Speaker 1: you can buy the book early. That's what we're doing
- 6:59Speaker 1: the show. We promote early. Go out there and pre
- 7:01Speaker 1: purchased the book. So when could be number one? I
- 7:04Speaker 1: have a book number one on number one for New
- 7:06Speaker 1: York Times bestseller, Don't Be a Victim fighting Back against
- 7:10Speaker 1: America's Crime wavers in book Don't Be a Victim Fighting
- 7:12Speaker 1: Back against America's Crime Wave, Here's something I want to
- 7:15Speaker 1: tell you something else. Well, I want to tell you
- 7:17Speaker 1: something else, something funny and something calling it When you
- 7:21Speaker 1: were saying all this is based on so many true stories,
- 7:24Speaker 1: and that there were so many more I could have
- 7:26Speaker 1: put in there, this is this is a funny anecdote.
- 7:28Speaker 1: When I was writing the book, I remember all those
- 7:31Speaker 1: nights in the dark studio, I would say so and
- 7:34Speaker 1: so's missing. We're on the lookout for let me just
- 7:36Speaker 1: say a blue hunt day. We're all lookout for of
- 7:39Speaker 1: white many evans. I had so many examples writing this
- 7:44Speaker 1: book that they finally said, hey, you've got you've got
- 7:47Speaker 1: too many examples. We're gonna have to call it back.
- 7:52Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna have to do volume two. So
- 7:54Speaker 1: I actually had to cut out examples because there were
- 7:57Speaker 1: so many examples, and also a real reason I want
- 8:03Speaker 1: and hope people do pre order the book because not
- 8:07Speaker 1: only is it a testament for people like your twenty
- 8:11Speaker 1: three year old daughter about how to live prey, but say,
- 8:16Speaker 1: I don't like rules put on me, but I want
- 8:18Speaker 1: my daughter to be safe too. But I'm donating money
- 8:23Speaker 1: to help find missing children out of the proceeds of
- 8:26Speaker 1: this book, and I just want that out there. Well
- 8:29Speaker 1: it was now might help promote that because of the
- 8:31Speaker 1: fact that because like when I said in your intro,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you're a true crime fighter, and this book is about
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's about this. Like to me, I'm just saying that
- 8:39Speaker 1: this just use the word bible of information that you give.
- 8:43Speaker 1: There's not you go from cruise ships to r vs,
- 8:46Speaker 1: two hotels, to schools, to two jobs, to get on
- 8:51Speaker 1: the elevator. It was just it was just a voluble information, going, Wow,
- 8:55Speaker 1: she's gonna cover this too, She's gonna cover this too.
- 8:57Speaker 1: But I want to just lighten up the story a
- 9:00Speaker 1: little before we get deeper by you have twins and
- 9:02Speaker 1: then reading this book John David. John David is gonna
- 9:06Speaker 1: give you a heart attack. He's gonna give your heart
- 9:10Speaker 1: That started in the drug store when he went into
- 9:12Speaker 1: the toy section, and then he was Nicholas of all
- 9:16Speaker 1: the online predator, and then on the cream ship when
- 9:20Speaker 1: he left and he was running. I dragged a Littlelucy
- 9:23Speaker 1: round that cruise shift trying to find that boy. That
- 9:25Speaker 1: boy is going to be the death of you, Nancy
- 9:28Speaker 1: greg I'm always dragging Lucy frying to find John David.
- 9:34Speaker 1: But yet I telled John David, I'm gonna say, you
- 9:36Speaker 1: put that on my grape. Where's Lucy. I'm always saying
- 9:38Speaker 1: where's Lucy? But John David is really the one, at
- 9:41Speaker 1: least on all these wild juice shases. And yes, I
- 9:45Speaker 1: used them, and honey, I watched them like a hawk.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I try not to let them know, I'm like, hey, mom,
- 9:53Speaker 1: is that a Nannicount. I'm like no, Yeah. I'd laughed
- 9:57Speaker 1: so hard because because I was like, that's me, that's
- 9:59Speaker 1: me with my your daughter. My wife would say, you're
- 10:01Speaker 1: just so paradox because you know, the interesting thing about it,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Nancwer is that see, we are in the media. You know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I'm in the medi just like you, but not this detail.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Because you're in the crime fighting. You get information I
- 10:11Speaker 1: don't get. But we're still aware and that awareness can
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna use the word parent and paranoid, but
- 10:16Speaker 1: it does make us aware that, okay, that could actually happen,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and so we see things differently. We approached bully situation
- 10:23Speaker 1: a little bit earlier, a little bit more aggressive. If
- 10:25Speaker 1: we see it happening, We're just not gonna let this
- 10:27Speaker 1: play out. We're gonna nip this in the bud right now.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And you talk about that in the book, and so
- 10:31Speaker 1: it's really important with it when you when I when
- 10:34Speaker 1: I promote the people to buy this book because like
- 10:36Speaker 1: I said, it's a safety safety book. I'm gonna buy
- 10:39Speaker 1: this book and have my twenty three yeard daughter read
- 10:41Speaker 1: it because it's not just about school aged kids. It's
- 10:44Speaker 1: about life, going to the malls, walking in the parks,
- 10:48Speaker 1: going to stand in hotels, going on results cruise ships,
- 10:51Speaker 1: all this information. How did you, first of all, this
- 10:54Speaker 1: is a TV show, by the way, how did you
- 10:57Speaker 1: managed to pull all this information together not losing your mind?
- 11:01Speaker 1: Nancy Well somewhat argue I have lost my mind, But
- 11:05Speaker 1: I always say I'm not paranoid that people are trying
- 11:09Speaker 1: to hurt my children. They are they are, and they're
- 11:12Speaker 1: not tarting just my children. They're targeting any child. And
- 11:17Speaker 1: here's the kicker. By the time someone is caught and apprehended,
- 11:21Speaker 1: the child lost station, they have molested literally hundreds of times.
- 11:27Speaker 1: That's how prevalent it is. And these people, it's not
- 11:30Speaker 1: some prov at the edge of the park and a raincoat.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It's people that you come in contact with at your church,
- 11:37Speaker 1: at your Scout too. But here and there, how I
- 11:40Speaker 1: need to When my twins got into Scouts, you know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I had to become a volunteer and go and camp
- 11:48Speaker 1: with them at Scout camp to make sure nothing happened.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm happy to report that the Scouts are some of
- 11:54Speaker 1: the greatest people I've ever met. And maybe next year
- 11:57Speaker 1: I'll let them go without mommy camping and it's hint
- 12:00Speaker 1: twenty feet away. Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking,
- 12:03Speaker 1: but I did it, and not only that, I made
- 12:05Speaker 1: my husband, who's to work on all it like you
- 12:07Speaker 1: take off work for a week and also dough. So yes,
- 12:11Speaker 1: it may sound paranoid to some people, but like you
- 12:14Speaker 1: and me, we read it every day and I react
- 12:17Speaker 1: and I don't want these things to happen to other people.
- 12:20Speaker 1: How many times have I left a victims home because
- 12:24Speaker 1: you know, I don't just meet him at the courthouse.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I want to go to their home. I want to
- 12:28Speaker 1: see who they live. I want to sit down and
- 12:30Speaker 1: talk to them. I want to look at the baby
- 12:31Speaker 1: photo albums. I want to know it all. And I
- 12:34Speaker 1: walk out of that home and I feel the weight
- 12:38Speaker 1: of the world on me, trying to figure out how
- 12:40Speaker 1: can I help this family. All I could do then
- 12:43Speaker 1: was to get a true verdict in court, to give
- 12:46Speaker 1: them some sense of justice. But now with this book,
- 12:49Speaker 1: maybe I can't present them from ever being a victims.
- 12:53Speaker 1: You're listening to money making conversations with Rashan McDonald. We'll

- 13:59Speaker 1: Um your host Sean McDonald and that's really important. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: you said something about camp and uh, we're in the
- 14:04Speaker 1: middle of a pandemic as this interview is happening, and
- 14:07Speaker 1: you created a downloadable chapter and you said it's free. Correct,
- 14:11Speaker 1: they can download Coronavirus Crop. How could I thank you?
- 14:18Speaker 1: First of all, thank you because this is not something
- 14:21Speaker 1: that's kind of like a throwaway. This is very detailed
- 14:24Speaker 1: that she's provided to us. And that's a testament to
- 14:28Speaker 1: your personality. That's a testament to what you're trying to
- 14:30Speaker 1: do for us. And before you get in detail, I
- 14:32Speaker 1: don't want to remiss and say because I read it,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and I read that I way, because I do a
- 14:36Speaker 1: lot of COVID Nateen interviews. I'm kind of like a
- 14:38Speaker 1: pandemic expert when it comes to the COVID Nateen, the
- 14:41Speaker 1: cares Act and the Family Response Acting. So I know
- 14:44Speaker 1: when I read stuff, I go, wow, she put some
- 14:46Speaker 1: time into this and it's free. So but but with
- 14:50Speaker 1: with that being said, there is a need for it,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and tell us, tell us everybody why there's an important
- 14:56Speaker 1: need that they download this bonus chapter that's free. Yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 1: it is free, and you can find it at crime
- 15:02Speaker 1: online dot com. You can find it on dr Oz's site.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You can find that A has sad the book publishing
- 15:08Speaker 1: site for free. Because I had just turned the book
- 15:13Speaker 1: into the publisher and it was a long time researching
- 15:18Speaker 1: and writing that book. I do my own research. I
- 15:20Speaker 1: write it myself and I don't have a ghostwriter. I
- 15:24Speaker 1: write it um. Then after I did that, I started
- 15:28Speaker 1: audio recording and I did my own audio recording of
- 15:31Speaker 1: it too. Then COVID broke out. COVID broke out, the
- 15:36Speaker 1: book had already gone to publishers, and I thought, I
- 15:39Speaker 1: want this out now. I can't wait for the book
- 15:42Speaker 1: to come out in September. COVID's happening now. So I
- 15:47Speaker 1: got busy. I rewrote another about a thirty page chapter,
- 15:52Speaker 1: very detailed about COVID crimes. So not only are people
- 15:57Speaker 1: fighting for their lives, losing their jobs, worrying about their families,
- 16:01Speaker 1: who's gonna catch COVID their children? Then I gonna send
- 16:04Speaker 1: them back to school? What's gonna happen? I only have
- 16:07Speaker 1: to worry about that. You have to worry about COVID crimes.
- 16:10Speaker 1: People taking advantage of other people during the COVID pandemic,
- 16:14Speaker 1: which I think is the worst of the worst. It
- 16:18Speaker 1: really is. And I because, like I said, I'm out
- 16:20Speaker 1: there on the media. They asked me for my advice,
- 16:22Speaker 1: and I talked about the pandemic. And it's really sad
- 16:25Speaker 1: when we have what's happening right now with checks to
- 16:28Speaker 1: maybe ending this week until the Congress is size to
- 16:31Speaker 1: uh do stimulus package too. But the details of this book,
- 16:34Speaker 1: of this downloadable chapter are incredible. You talk about door
- 16:37Speaker 1: to door coronavirus, text fraud stores, You mentioned Jim Baker
- 16:41Speaker 1: paral pirates while Robo called for coronavirus. Because we don't know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: we don't know, you know, there's no cure. I was
- 16:48Speaker 1: talking to my wife. I was saying, I will tell
- 16:50Speaker 1: us that there really isn't a cure. So when people
- 16:52Speaker 1: go in the hospital, you know, they're really like just
- 16:56Speaker 1: trying to sustain himself and survive the process because technically
- 16:59Speaker 1: they isn't a vaccine or a like some like Nike
- 17:04Speaker 1: wail you can give somebody if they got the cold
- 17:06Speaker 1: of the flu. They have nothing like that. And so
- 17:08Speaker 1: this book is kind of like, to me, the night
- 17:10Speaker 1: will for us to avoid issues out there when it
- 17:14Speaker 1: comes to coronavirus crime. Now that door to door, the frodsters.
- 17:17Speaker 1: There was some things in here that that just really
- 17:20Speaker 1: blew me away. The perel pirates, can you go in
- 17:22Speaker 1: detail about that? Oh, my stars, the purell pirates what
- 17:27Speaker 1: they did and they're more like them. There was a
- 17:30Speaker 1: big run on purel face maths, of course, paper towels
- 17:35Speaker 1: and toilet papers that I can't address that they did
- 17:37Speaker 1: not teach toilet paper in law school. But I can
- 17:40Speaker 1: tell you this much. These guys and others like them
- 17:43Speaker 1: would go buy up all the purele at all the
- 17:47Speaker 1: dollars and dollar generals, grocery stores hoarded, and then sell
- 17:51Speaker 1: it for hundreds of dollars. And you also have to
- 17:55Speaker 1: watch out for fake purel purell that doesn't me the
- 18:00Speaker 1: right standards to do any good. Then you've got actually
- 18:04Speaker 1: toxic purel is happening now, it's it's not pureal. That's
- 18:10Speaker 1: a name brand that's toxic. Hand sanitizer. Purell is not toxic.
- 18:15Speaker 1: But all types of scams are happening. Now. Looks like Correl,
- 18:20Speaker 1: you know, it kind of looks like lysol, but he's
- 18:22Speaker 1: not got the color stone. You know, all the schemes
- 18:25Speaker 1: are close, but it's not. It just enough to make
- 18:28Speaker 1: total sakery. Total fakery. And another thing that really got
- 18:33Speaker 1: off with me is when Jim Baker had that effort
- 18:37Speaker 1: on his show. And you know, it's bad enough, but
- 18:40Speaker 1: when you profess to be a man of God and
- 18:43Speaker 1: people believe in you and people listen to you, and
- 18:47Speaker 1: then you put out there some cure, some fake cure. Yeah,
- 18:51Speaker 1: the state governments are on him now. That had to
- 18:54Speaker 1: be stopped. And there's so many fake cures out there
- 18:58Speaker 1: and people are by I yet. Number one, it could
- 19:01Speaker 1: be a health risk, a serious health risk of the the
- 19:04Speaker 1: Number two, you lose your money. Number three, it's not
- 19:06Speaker 1: a cure for COVID. That's incredible. Um. I have if
- 19:11Speaker 1: you don't mind, I have a fan newsletter goes out
- 19:14Speaker 1: every Wednesday to ninety four thousand fans and growing. I
- 19:18Speaker 1: like to put this linking in which we go back
- 19:20Speaker 1: to your website so they can find this. I like
- 19:23Speaker 1: to put it on. My website is of a million.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Another website, my Facebook is of a million social media
- 19:27Speaker 1: followers I have. I can't believe it's nighty percent of
- 19:31Speaker 1: my followers are female, and so I'd love to get
- 19:34Speaker 1: this information about covert COVID and eighteen to them. But
- 19:38Speaker 1: I know again, this is just part of your brand,
- 19:40Speaker 1: but I want to let you know this. I'm doing
- 19:41Speaker 1: my part to get the word out and that's why
- 19:43Speaker 1: I brought you on the show. Do you know when
- 19:45Speaker 1: you said that, it actually made me cheer up. I
- 19:48Speaker 1: can't go win and try a serial killer, go to autopsies,
- 19:51Speaker 1: crime scenes, you name, you name. It never shed a
- 19:54Speaker 1: tear when somebody does something kind. It almost always brings
- 19:59Speaker 1: me to t years. Are really appreciate that. Well, thank you.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm a fan of you. And because
- 20:06Speaker 1: I know you see that. The people don't understand this
- 20:09Speaker 1: because there's so much weight that's carried on your shoulders
- 20:12Speaker 1: because of the fact that people sometimes expect miracles. Sometimes
- 20:15Speaker 1: people come to you hoping that you can find their
- 20:18Speaker 1: child and find or solve a crime that's a cold crime,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and that's a lot of way because guess what, you
- 20:25Speaker 1: can only do so much. And but that means you
- 20:28Speaker 1: wake up the next day feeling any better because you
- 20:31Speaker 1: could you did resource of it, or you didn't solve it.
- 20:34Speaker 1: But that's what this book is about, is this book
- 20:36Speaker 1: that you have. Don't be a victim. You know you
- 20:38Speaker 1: have it. It's broken down into parts like how do
- 20:41Speaker 1: I protect my child, which which we knew was gonna
- 20:44Speaker 1: be in there. Then it goes to protecting yourself. That
- 20:47Speaker 1: part right, there was a phenomenal section for me. That's
- 20:50Speaker 1: part two, and then part three travel safe, don't be
- 20:54Speaker 1: a statistic, and then the part five protecting our Elderly.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Of all these watching the book, what was the most
- 21:02Speaker 1: most emotionally charged for you? I know you have the twins,
- 21:05Speaker 1: so I'm sure that you know protecting your child had
- 21:08Speaker 1: a personal calling for you. But when I saw that
- 21:10Speaker 1: protecting our elderly at the end, that kind of like
- 21:13Speaker 1: made me sit up in my chair, going wow, I
- 21:16Speaker 1: never even thought about this. Talk to me, Nancy, Well,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I gotta tell you something in addition to the twins now,
- 21:22Speaker 1: because my father went to heaven, he was my soul mate.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Don't tell my husband. My mom has been living with
- 21:28Speaker 1: us and she is certainly a handful um. But I
- 21:35Speaker 1: think about her as you know, fight you somebody can
- 21:39Speaker 1: be at eighty nine years old. She is, but I
- 21:42Speaker 1: think of someone trying to take advantage of her or
- 21:46Speaker 1: hurt her or scam her. And it's happened. She has
- 21:49Speaker 1: been scammed online and it just you know how low
- 21:54Speaker 1: Can you go to attack or scam a little low lady,
- 21:59Speaker 1: a little low man. I mean, how could you? But
- 22:02Speaker 1: people they're like, um, you know in the jungle, they
- 22:07Speaker 1: see the weakest person, a child, with the elderly, or
- 22:10Speaker 1: that's who they target. So that's how that got intybody
- 22:14Speaker 1: gotta cay something. What really gets to me? What? What
- 22:19Speaker 1: was the most poignant part of the book was I'm
- 22:22Speaker 1: a crime victim. My fiance was martyred shortly before our
- 22:26Speaker 1: wedding and it changed my life. His life ended and
- 22:31Speaker 1: my world exploded. But little known it took me over
- 22:36Speaker 1: twenty years after Keith's murder to try again, and I
- 22:45Speaker 1: married David. But then when I had the twins, it
- 22:50Speaker 1: was like my life changed again and I finally really
- 22:54Speaker 1: felt like I could rust something, and if anything ever
- 22:58Speaker 1: happened to them, I really don't think I could stand it.
- 23:01Speaker 1: And other mothers and fathers feel the same way. And
- 23:05Speaker 1: when I write each one of these stories, I can't
- 23:08Speaker 1: help it. I think about them, and that is what
- 23:11Speaker 1: I would this book. Even writing it got me so upset.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I remembered all these parents, all these families, all these victims,
- 23:19Speaker 1: families that I would talk to over the course of
- 23:22Speaker 1: this time, and it really really brought my heart. But
- 23:27Speaker 1: I know it's a story that has to be told.
- 23:30Speaker 1: You know, here's the fifth of stat that came out
- 23:33Speaker 1: of me. You know, you you know the thing about
- 23:35Speaker 1: this book is it has it filled with so many stats,
- 23:37Speaker 1: so many pointed stories, so many relatible information. I'm just
- 23:40Speaker 1: going to share some of the things. But she comes
- 23:43Speaker 1: out of the very top in the chapter how Do
- 23:45Speaker 1: I Protect My Child? Nearly child kidnappings are related to schools,
- 23:50Speaker 1: bus stops, and school routes. That number scared me because
- 23:56Speaker 1: the reason to scared me because the fact that when
- 23:59Speaker 1: you when your childhood school, you feel your childhoo school uh,
- 24:02Speaker 1: your child going to the bus stop. You could have
- 24:04Speaker 1: walked your child to the bus stop. I've been I've
- 24:06Speaker 1: been there to walk to your child from the bus stop.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And seeing your child goes to on a school route
- 24:11Speaker 1: the same thing. So these things right here the frustrating
- 24:16Speaker 1: part of about it. They can leave a parent if
- 24:18Speaker 1: they become a victim into a long series of what
- 24:20Speaker 1: ilse And that's the tragic part about these timelines. Correct, Oh,
- 24:27Speaker 1: it really is. Can I tell you how up into
- 24:30Speaker 1: the twins school I am. I take them, I take
- 24:35Speaker 1: them up, uh drive through there at different times of
- 24:39Speaker 1: the day throughout the week, and I'm out in the
- 24:42Speaker 1: car and about Oh yes, I am all up in it.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I know exactly where their classes are, which window goes
- 24:49Speaker 1: to them, the works. I know it may sound a
- 24:52Speaker 1: little bit overboard to a lot of people, but after
- 24:54Speaker 1: doing what I do from my whole legal career, it's
- 24:59Speaker 1: the least like dude to try to keep tabs on
- 25:02Speaker 1: them and keep them safe. Well, you know, I wanted
- 25:05Speaker 1: just that's why I wanted to bring the book into
- 25:07Speaker 1: the frame. It's because you said, doing what you do
- 25:10Speaker 1: this book because you know, this book is about every
- 25:13Speaker 1: for everybody, every regular, every parent or anybody who's not
- 25:16Speaker 1: a parent, If you live in a teenage life, who
- 25:19Speaker 1: going to college, if you you're a young person who's
- 25:21Speaker 1: about to start their professional life, this book has a
- 25:24Speaker 1: section in it that you should read. That's how important
- 25:27Speaker 1: this book is. And more importantly about this book is
- 25:29Speaker 1: that she shines a light on don't create conference zone
- 25:34Speaker 1: for yourself. Or you feel it's all right, you can
- 25:36Speaker 1: drop your guard because she mentions, you know, especially in kids,
- 25:40Speaker 1: where attack can happen in brand name places like McDonald's,
- 25:44Speaker 1: not like Chick fil A. Not that she's trying to
- 25:47Speaker 1: shine a negative light on it. She's just letting you
- 25:49Speaker 1: know that in this world that we live in, you
- 25:52Speaker 1: cannot be comfortable, especially with your children, especially with yourself.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Where you at a fancy high flude mall and your
- 26:00Speaker 1: crime it never happened over here. Well, you don't want
- 26:02Speaker 1: to be the person that the crime happens too, because
- 26:04Speaker 1: you decided to drop your car. That was a story
- 26:07Speaker 1: that you resonated throughout the each page, and it came
- 26:11Speaker 1: across very loud and clear, and and I wanted to
- 26:13Speaker 1: thank you for doing that because that was important to me,
- 26:15Speaker 1: because I said, let me, let me, let me look
- 26:18Speaker 1: up a couple of names, just to see if they reel.
- 26:20Speaker 1: And that read about the little girl, Nicole, the thirteen
- 26:23Speaker 1: year old old girl the cold and Natalie keepers the
- 26:26Speaker 1: little track storeboard. David Eisenhower. I went, Wow, these stories
- 26:33Speaker 1: exactly what you're talking about. She was just keep keep keep,
- 26:40Speaker 1: and she had lived there so much. Statistically medically she
- 26:44Speaker 1: shouldn't lift. She did. And then just as she's turning
- 26:48Speaker 1: into a team everything's going good, she meets up with
- 26:53Speaker 1: I believe his name was Dr Death online. Yes, the
- 26:56Speaker 1: real named David Eisenhower. Yea. And Natalee Capers his girlfriend,
- 27:03Speaker 1: and um, she thought she the little girl thought she
- 27:06Speaker 1: had a boyfriend. And this was a grown man in
- 27:10Speaker 1: college and he did not want anyone to find out
- 27:14Speaker 1: about this sex relationship. So he killed a little girl.
- 27:18Speaker 1: He killed her and that's it. And then you didn't agree.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Now that's the chapter. Would you know that we talked
- 27:24Speaker 1: about the cyber threats with little little John David and
- 27:28Speaker 1: Nicholas of our story where you had to follow him
- 27:30Speaker 1: in the room and look over his shoulder and he Mommy,
- 27:33Speaker 1: don't be looking over my show you will this, Nancy Grace,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I mean your mom what you what you read in
- 27:37Speaker 1: their phone? And that's what we have to do with
- 27:39Speaker 1: our kids. We have to evade their privacies sometimes, Miss Grace.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Let me tell you what happened the other day. We're
- 27:46Speaker 1: all anti camping. We're all about and like my my
- 27:50Speaker 1: daughter Lucy, I told you she's a scout. I don't
- 27:53Speaker 1: mean the kind of go out and sell cookies. She
- 27:55Speaker 1: goes out in camp. She can pitch a tent, you
- 27:57Speaker 1: can start a fire, no works. So anyway, even now
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'm on John David. That's what he has done. He
- 28:05Speaker 1: has set up his camping he has set up his
- 28:09Speaker 1: camping tent in his bedroom and he will get in
- 28:13Speaker 1: it and watch his screen from the hammock. So I
- 28:17Speaker 1: can't see what he's watching. So long story short, I said,
- 28:21Speaker 1: what are you watch his son? And he said some
- 28:23Speaker 1: Japanese name. Oh, dear lord. I thought it's Japanese pornography.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Well guess what it is. It's anime, right, my daughter
- 28:34Speaker 1: does that. Yes, sci fi anime thriller, kind of like Marvel.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But okay, so once again I've called him being good. Right, Well,
- 28:45Speaker 1: you know he's he's a he's a funny uh. Trail
- 28:48Speaker 1: through the book because of the fact that it reminds me,
- 28:51Speaker 1: just talks about your parent, and I think that that's
- 28:53Speaker 1: why I'm talking about You're just an open person. You're
- 28:55Speaker 1: an open book. You're saying that these situations happened to me.
- 28:58Speaker 1: You may see me as being famous. You may say,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I think I have a lot of money, but I
- 29:01Speaker 1: still have the parents. And as a parent, it's seven
- 29:04Speaker 1: it's seven days a week, it's twenty four hours a day,
- 29:07Speaker 1: and I don't care whether you would wealthy or you're struggling.
- 29:10Speaker 1: You have to be focused. Now the book shifts now
- 29:13Speaker 1: the first part one, Part two is really about your child.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Part two on got to the adult side of the book,
- 29:21Speaker 1: which I really like. Why was it important to do
- 29:23Speaker 1: the you know, the protecting yourself travel safe because part
- 29:28Speaker 1: one in part two because has been a separate book
- 29:30Speaker 1: by itself, Nancy, But then you say you're something. I'm
- 29:32Speaker 1: gonna give them a book that when they walk and talk. Anybody,
- 29:36Speaker 1: the teenager can have this book. They can lie the young,
- 29:39Speaker 1: they can preach knowledge to the young children. And also
- 29:42Speaker 1: if they decided to travel as adults, they can have that.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Why you decided to put it all in one book.
- 29:49Speaker 1: So many that they comes that I've represented in court
- 29:54Speaker 1: have been children, but I would say an equal amount
- 29:58Speaker 1: has been adults. And the cases I've covered, so many
- 30:02Speaker 1: missing women, missing team, missing college students. You know, when
- 30:07Speaker 1: you go to college, you think you know everything. You
- 30:09Speaker 1: don't know anything, and so many especially girls faull pray
- 30:15Speaker 1: at college and the other day, Um, you know, I
- 30:19Speaker 1: work home my Hallmark movies and they are born out
- 30:23Speaker 1: of character I created when I moved to New York
- 30:26Speaker 1: to launch a show with the late great Johnny Cochrane.
- 30:30Speaker 1: He would go off. He was the toast of the town.
- 30:32Speaker 1: He would go off after our show, which was at night,
- 30:34Speaker 1: and I knew nobody. I go home to my old apartment.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I was alone. I started writing this book. So a lady,
- 30:41Speaker 1: a very dear friend of mine, Liz, that I worked
- 30:44Speaker 1: on the Hallmark shows with son went away to college
- 30:48Speaker 1: while we were working on one of the one of
- 30:50Speaker 1: the movies, and she was so worried about him. And
- 30:54Speaker 1: it was right after a young man had been forced
- 30:59Speaker 1: to enforce ed basically booze until he died at a
- 31:03Speaker 1: frat party. She was so afraid for her son. And
- 31:07Speaker 1: I got to thinking about John, David and Lucy going
- 31:10Speaker 1: away to college. I don't like thinking about it, but
- 31:13Speaker 1: I was thinking about all the things that could happen
- 31:15Speaker 1: to them, and all the times I go running, or
- 31:19Speaker 1: I take the twins walking with me or biking with me,
- 31:22Speaker 1: and all the cases I've covered where women were out
- 31:25Speaker 1: jogging or biking or leaving their dorm or people my
- 31:29Speaker 1: age out and about walking and jogging and how dangerous
- 31:33Speaker 1: it is, and how many times do you pull up
- 31:36Speaker 1: at a red light. This is a chilling thought to me,
- 31:39Speaker 1: because I know the stats on how many people are
- 31:41Speaker 1: out on part and in parole. They can't all be
- 31:45Speaker 1: hiding in some area of town. They are out with
- 31:48Speaker 1: you at them all at the grocery store, in the
- 31:50Speaker 1: parking lot, at the red light. Hey, when you don't
- 31:53Speaker 1: know a horse, look at his track record. You say
- 31:56Speaker 1: they want offend again? They will. They will offend again
- 32:00Speaker 1: and are sitting by you at the red light. That
- 32:03Speaker 1: made me think about driving and what happens when you're
- 32:06Speaker 1: in a car, and how to stay safe, and what
- 32:09Speaker 1: to do if you think you're being followed, what to
- 32:11Speaker 1: do if somebody has a road rage. There's just so
- 32:14Speaker 1: many things to think about, and I want to address
- 32:17Speaker 1: them because I have addressed them, not only in this book,
- 32:21Speaker 1: but in court. Wow, don't be a victim Fighting back

- 37:20Speaker 1: keeping up with the doones? And that's what we can
- 37:22Speaker 1: lose all our money trying to keep out with the
- 37:26Speaker 1: we really do? We really do? Mark? We do? You know?
- 37:31Speaker 1: The car, the house? You know? When I started this
- 37:33Speaker 1: show is trying to get everybody side of the story,
- 37:37Speaker 1: you know, because we all have images of what success
- 37:40Speaker 1: is all about. And I try to bring individuals on
- 37:44Speaker 1: who has different layers, different stories to tell, and I'll
- 37:47Speaker 1: try to get that information and and and from in
- 37:49Speaker 1: an entertaining way so they can take it home and go, Okay.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I hopefully I won't make the mistakes or I'm making
- 37:55Speaker 1: that mistake and I'm gonna do a different based on
- 37:57Speaker 1: the advice I heard on my show and when I
- 38:00Speaker 1: got the opportunity to bring you on, you know, your
- 38:02Speaker 1: stand up comedian, you know what that we we we
- 38:04Speaker 1: we we cut our lives on that. And then the
- 38:07Speaker 1: COVID ninteen here in March. How did that affect you?
- 38:10Speaker 1: And how did how that affect me? We can't even
- 38:14Speaker 1: say effect is a fact and effect ect I'm sorry,
- 38:19Speaker 1: and I getting okay, effect, I'm getting deep in And
- 38:22Speaker 1: you don't want me, I don't know how deep you
- 38:23Speaker 1: want me to go. And here we don't go. See,
- 38:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be a bullish compensation. It's gonna go bullets. Well,
- 38:29Speaker 1: it affected me because if you look at Indian industry
- 38:33Speaker 1: that has been affected, the comedy industry has been devastated.
- 38:37Speaker 1: There's no industry has been devastated. Here. Just think this, sir,
- 38:42Speaker 1: I was doing. I was about to do um um.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Let me see, I just did the Oakland College seem
- 38:48Speaker 1: the just just just put a perspective. I just did
- 38:50Speaker 1: the Oakland College sum A month before. I was just
- 38:51Speaker 1: about to do Vegas Residency in Vegas something. All that
- 38:55Speaker 1: is gone. My residency in Vegas, baby, I was I
- 38:57Speaker 1: was going, this is for the high rollers and is
- 39:00Speaker 1: the greatest gig in the world because I didn't have
- 39:02Speaker 1: to sell no tickets. It was just just for the
- 39:04Speaker 1: high rollers of a certain casino. I was about to
- 39:07Speaker 1: start that residency. I was on tour with Mike Epps
- 39:11Speaker 1: some more, and suddenly all of it is gone, is gone,
- 39:15Speaker 1: It's not coming back. It's done. So here I am
- 39:18Speaker 1: in the world. Financially. I know that you've got to
- 39:21Speaker 1: have a diverse portfolio, but my god, who ever thought
- 39:24Speaker 1: of a portfolio that is, you know, adverse. So I know,
- 39:29Speaker 1: so here I am. I don't know what to do?
- 39:32Speaker 1: You know, I I panic the first couple of months.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I panic, that just panic. I didn't know what to do.
- 39:37Speaker 1: And I said, okay, where do I get in? Where
- 39:39Speaker 1: do I fit in it? It's gonna be virtual, It's
- 39:41Speaker 1: gonna be a virtual situation. Uh you know what am
- 39:45Speaker 1: I gonna do? But I mean, I've been devastated, devastated.
- 39:48Speaker 1: So just let you know. In the in the money
- 39:51Speaker 1: marketing world, you have to you know, program yourself for everything.
- 39:57Speaker 1: You never know, this is this is, this is something
- 40:00Speaker 1: and come about even if you have a diverse before
- 40:02Speaker 1: leo that may not even work. You have to rethink
- 40:05Speaker 1: the business. So here I am. I know, I'm a
- 40:07Speaker 1: good comedian. I'm like, what damn, what am I gonna do?
- 40:10Speaker 1: I said, well, you know what, something's gonna come out
- 40:13Speaker 1: of it in any in any situation, there's a positive.
- 40:17Speaker 1: And um, if you look at Madam C. J. Walker,
- 40:20Speaker 1: I think she made her marriag is doing the depression.
- 40:23Speaker 1: So there was hope. So I was like, okay, where
- 40:26Speaker 1: where what am I gonna What's gonna happen. What am
- 40:28Speaker 1: I gonna do? So I'm thinking virtual comedy is gonna
- 40:31Speaker 1: be is gonna be the thing, you know, And so
- 40:34Speaker 1: I just got myself and I just started writing. I said, well,
- 40:38Speaker 1: I think the best comedian is gonna win. So that's
- 40:40Speaker 1: all I did, you know, the only thing I can do.
- 40:43Speaker 1: And then I had to change my business. I said,
- 40:45Speaker 1: comedy is no longer a viable business to me to
- 40:49Speaker 1: make money, so I gotta, I shoot, I don't know.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I started looking at everything. I even looked at marijuana production.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I said, well, how much does it cross when he
- 40:58Speaker 1: dudes be growing this stuff? And I called my boys
- 41:00Speaker 1: and said, well how much do you make on this thing?
- 41:03Speaker 1: You know? I called everything I can do? You know?
- 41:07Speaker 1: Was that tied to like just real talk, you know,
- 41:11Speaker 1: like when the when the pandemic hit, you know, I
- 41:14Speaker 1: would tell you some man, it affected me mentally, you know,
- 41:16Speaker 1: it affected my pocket, but affected me mentally on how
- 41:20Speaker 1: was that? Was it really safe to go out in
- 41:22Speaker 1: the streets? You know? And you know, like I said,
- 41:25Speaker 1: because I went out there with all the equipment because
- 41:27Speaker 1: it was in Marching, was still cold. Because I didn't
- 41:29Speaker 1: have a mask. I just put a ski mask on
- 41:31Speaker 1: and uh. And then I went to home depot. I
- 41:33Speaker 1: had my I had my rubber gloves, I had my pierrel,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I had lights al and I had all this stuff.
- 41:40Speaker 1: And I got back to the car. I didn't I
- 41:42Speaker 1: didn't know the protocol. Do I take off my gloves?
- 41:45Speaker 1: Is my sterel wheel gonna be safe? Did it really
- 41:48Speaker 1: get into your head? Was I just want of those
- 41:50Speaker 1: people that just reacted to out of control about it? Well,
- 41:54Speaker 1: it got into my head. But I am a you know,
- 41:56Speaker 1: I look at you know, I'm almost like a story.
- 42:00Speaker 1: So said, this is this is this is happening, this
- 42:02Speaker 1: is going this is happening. And so I accepted it
- 42:05Speaker 1: and I stayed at home. I didn't go anywhere. I said,
- 42:08Speaker 1: at my age, I said the thing I'm gonna do,
- 42:10Speaker 1: I'm not going anywhere. I'm just gonna stay at home.
- 42:12Speaker 1: And it mentally, mentally it affected me. It didn't affect
- 42:17Speaker 1: me till later, you know, till later on. So four
- 42:21Speaker 1: or five months later, I'm like, man, what is going on? Man?
- 42:23Speaker 1: This could this could endure for a month? You know.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I put my faith into the American government, the American
- 42:31Speaker 1: way of life that we we can fight anything. We're America.
- 42:35Speaker 1: We have enough money to fight anything. So I said,
- 42:38Speaker 1: this Q will be you know, eradicated. So just hanging
- 42:42Speaker 1: there and hanging there because America was gonna take care
- 42:45Speaker 1: of it. But now we have devicesness. We have political
- 42:48Speaker 1: side this disease. So it's political side which is and
- 42:53Speaker 1: which is you can't even think about it. He didn't frustrated.
- 42:57Speaker 1: It is as frustrated and that you hear that. And
- 43:00Speaker 1: you know, because I try to be honest on my show,
- 43:03Speaker 1: are allowed the interview to go where the interviews are
- 43:05Speaker 1: gonna go. But it is frustrating because we're in an
- 43:08Speaker 1: economy that's tied to unemployment is at a high rate,
- 43:12Speaker 1: and you know, and it affects minorities are black and
- 43:15Speaker 1: brown people at a at a twice rate. And then
- 43:18Speaker 1: you have COVID ninteen that affects African American community at
- 43:22Speaker 1: a high rate. And then they then they tell you
- 43:23Speaker 1: that ninety four percent of the people who have died
- 43:25Speaker 1: from COVID ninteen had preconditioned of pre illnesses. So it's like, okay,
- 43:31Speaker 1: you know, it puts you in a position of who
- 43:34Speaker 1: to believe in, who to trust right exactly, and where
- 43:40Speaker 1: are you at on that whole trusting thing, because it
- 43:42Speaker 1: does impact how you move forward as a comedian, as
- 43:45Speaker 1: an entertainment, as a businessman. Well, I don't trust anybody
- 43:50Speaker 1: right now. I just trust myself. I cannot trust. I
- 43:53Speaker 1: just had a show I was doing. I was supposed
- 43:55Speaker 1: to do a show a matter of fact, Labor Day
- 43:58Speaker 1: in Atlanta. I had, you know, five sold out shoves.
- 44:00Speaker 1: But then I was looking at the peak. I was
- 44:02Speaker 1: looking at this disease. I was like, man, I ain't
- 44:05Speaker 1: going I'm not going out there, and so I canceled it,
- 44:09Speaker 1: you know, And so I I haven't worked yet. I'm
- 44:12Speaker 1: gonna work at the end of September. I said, I'm
- 44:14Speaker 1: not gonna work until November. But let me see. So
- 44:16Speaker 1: I don't my thing? Is this what I would like.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I would like to know what my chances are. And
- 44:22Speaker 1: that's your government should tell you that. I just you
- 44:24Speaker 1: should be able to say, okay, blah blah blah blah
- 44:27Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah blah. But we don't know, we don't,
- 44:30Speaker 1: we don't know. So you have to trust yourself. You
- 44:33Speaker 1: know who you can't, I mean you can't. I don't
- 44:36Speaker 1: care who you are you can't trust the government. They're
- 44:38Speaker 1: not telling me the truth. I mean, not telling me
- 44:41Speaker 1: what I need to know. I'm not trying to be political,
- 44:44Speaker 1: but my god, I just want to know how to
- 44:46Speaker 1: stay safe. And that's a very simple request. But somehow
- 44:53Speaker 1: they'll can't get answered how to stay safe? What you
- 44:56Speaker 1: turned because if you felt safe for you have felt
- 44:59Speaker 1: safe about on that airplane, traveling to it, getting off
- 45:02Speaker 1: that plane, and doing five shows in front of the audience,
- 45:05Speaker 1: that exactly, and knowing I had to call my doctor
- 45:08Speaker 1: for the black doctor. He's a black doctor. Emphasize that
- 45:12Speaker 1: because if we have more black doctors, are child instant
- 45:16Speaker 1: rate would probably be higher. You know, we need more
- 45:20Speaker 1: black doctors. And he told me, he said, man, you
- 45:24Speaker 1: know he said that. He said that, man, it's not
- 45:29Speaker 1: good to go. So I said, I'm not going. But
- 45:32Speaker 1: if I had some kind of guideline that I know,
- 45:35Speaker 1: you know, some kind of we don't. We don't have
- 45:37Speaker 1: a guideline. If right now you said you're gonna travel
- 45:40Speaker 1: to Louisiana, it ain't nothing that you can look on
- 45:42Speaker 1: and say should I go, I should not go. There's
- 45:44Speaker 1: no guideline. That's that's the crazy part. That scares me.
- 45:50Speaker 1: It's really amazing because you know, stand up comedy is
- 45:53Speaker 1: really interesting because we kind of see everything from a
- 45:56Speaker 1: different perspective and just twisted put our twist off, and
- 46:00Speaker 1: that that's how and and and I'm gonna tell you, man,
- 46:03Speaker 1: just from an outside looking at you, you've always been,
- 46:06Speaker 1: uh a guy that I always looked back or I
- 46:09Speaker 1: would have never thought of that choke you. You've always
- 46:12Speaker 1: been one of those I would have never thought of
- 46:13Speaker 1: that joke guy when I look at And that's and
- 46:15Speaker 1: that's how I write, suh. I write, I don't write.
- 46:19Speaker 1: When I write, I write to jump down. And if
- 46:21Speaker 1: it sounds like everybody else I talked to out trying
- 46:24Speaker 1: to come from the different, I ain't gonna you know,
- 46:27Speaker 1: you know, almost like an investing I would be the
- 46:30Speaker 1: one to invest in something that somebody said, well, why
- 46:33Speaker 1: are you investment in that? Why are you investing in
- 46:36Speaker 1: the straps that hold the masks together? Right? No one
- 46:39Speaker 1: else is doing that because no one else is doing right.
- 46:42Speaker 1: And so so you know, and I say that, you
- 46:45Speaker 1: know because of the fact that you know, you know,
- 46:48Speaker 1: But one time I felt I was one of the
- 46:50Speaker 1: top guys out there, and I come along and I
- 46:52Speaker 1: see you and I still see you, and I go,
- 46:55Speaker 1: what is what? What? What are you? What? Are you
- 46:58Speaker 1: looking at stuff through one curve when you're when you
- 47:02Speaker 1: know what? You know like that you know what? You
- 47:05Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, you know because of the fact
- 47:07Speaker 1: that you know we could we could, you're not could
- 47:09Speaker 1: walk in the room. And uh, one of the all
- 47:11Speaker 1: time you probably remember one of the all time funny
- 47:13Speaker 1: moments I had with you when we was at Denny's restaurant, Me, you,
- 47:16Speaker 1: George Wallace and and we are we're closed down that place.
- 47:19Speaker 1: And I always remember how from an improvisational standpoint, you
- 47:24Speaker 1: are incredible, and I just it is locked in my
- 47:27Speaker 1: memory in Hollywood, US just JF it was Jathony Brown,
- 47:31Speaker 1: it was you, it was me, and it was George
- 47:34Speaker 1: Wallace and we left that myth that dinner is at
- 47:38Speaker 1: four two o'clock in the morning, and and and it
- 47:41Speaker 1: was just watching you sit over there, going, he's doing
- 47:45Speaker 1: stuff I could not do. I can't because you were
- 47:49Speaker 1: in the same dunnas. Now we're the same we all
- 47:51Speaker 1: even the same food, but you're looking at it through
- 47:53Speaker 1: a different eye. Mark Curry, Why why why are you
- 47:58Speaker 1: looking at it from a different eye, well, because of it.
- 48:04Speaker 1: When I do. When I do a joke, I don't
- 48:07Speaker 1: write the joke. A lot of guys write the joke,
- 48:09Speaker 1: and that's why they a lot of times they jokes
- 48:11Speaker 1: don't be funny because they forced the joke. But what
- 48:14Speaker 1: I do is I researched the joke, and my material
- 48:18Speaker 1: is based on If you see anything I say, it's
- 48:20Speaker 1: based on facts and research. So for example, we're talking
- 48:25Speaker 1: about whatever the subject is, black people and money, Black
- 48:32Speaker 1: people and money. Okay, bam, you will will do the
- 48:35Speaker 1: joke because black people, they'll take black people. I wur
- 48:38Speaker 1: to realize they've been a short change black people? Come
- 48:41Speaker 1: back in? How much it again? When I came in
- 48:44Speaker 1: there had pointing right, and then I got chuck for
- 48:49Speaker 1: you because I hold him that and I put that money.
- 48:53Speaker 1: How must think? How must let me go back here?
- 48:56Speaker 1: But got back? How much with it? Not? How much
- 48:57Speaker 1: with the cheeses? Let me go to a change lake?
- 49:02Speaker 1: The white person? No instantly, just a minute? How much
- 49:06Speaker 1: the tacks on this? What was the three seventeen? I
- 49:10Speaker 1: had three of them right? That should have been a fortnite. Yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 1: I think some something's wrong here oh, okay, okay, Mark, Okay,
- 49:21Speaker 1: that's funny though it's true. That's what I'm laughing because
- 49:30Speaker 1: again you've taken my engineer. He laughing too, you know,
- 49:33Speaker 1: in the other side of the room, and he's shaking
- 49:35Speaker 1: his head, was laughing because you know, it's true, because
- 49:39Speaker 1: it's through that lens that you are are sitting there
- 49:43Speaker 1: and and observing and and that, like I said, in
- 49:46Speaker 1: that Denny's restaurant, you know, we're all were being served
- 49:49Speaker 1: the same food. But I'm just looking at your craze
- 49:51Speaker 1: behind going how did he see that? What he's running
- 49:55Speaker 1: through his mind? Because when I when I see something,
- 49:59Speaker 1: I'm did leave size it up as a joke, so
- 50:03Speaker 1: I look at it and I break it down. I'm
- 50:08Speaker 1: not educated, but I'm an internet guy. So if i'm
- 50:11Speaker 1: if I'm searching, if we talk about money, I'm gonna
- 50:13Speaker 1: go on the internet and and and find facts that
- 50:17Speaker 1: I may not repeat them. But you're listening to money

- 51:23Speaker 1: to money making conversations. I'm your host, Sean McDonald. It'll
- 51:27Speaker 1: help me with my facts. For example, I'll look up
- 51:30Speaker 1: black people and money. The first black people with money
- 51:34Speaker 1: and they seen hundred and then I'll look at black institutions,
- 51:38Speaker 1: black owned banks, so blood of the So when I
- 51:41Speaker 1: have a prethra of all kind of material that I
- 51:45Speaker 1: may not use, but at least my attitude and and
- 51:49Speaker 1: what I'm talking about is based on some kind of facts.
- 51:53Speaker 1: And then I'll throw a little fact because you know,
- 51:54Speaker 1: black people, we didn't we didn't have banks back then.
- 51:57Speaker 1: What the hell did we do? We couldn't go to
- 51:59Speaker 1: the back. Think about that. Black people didn't go to
- 52:04Speaker 1: the bank the nineteen seventy. Think about that nineteen seventy.
- 52:08Speaker 1: And when you walk in the steel, look that you crazy,
- 52:10Speaker 1: because they look at you crazy right now. Don't walk
- 52:13Speaker 1: into a belly Hills bank right now. They just get
- 52:15Speaker 1: you like you, Craig, can we help you? This is
- 52:17Speaker 1: a bank and that feels that can't be healthy. So
- 52:22Speaker 1: imagine banking back then. Banking back then was none existed.
- 52:26Speaker 1: You gave me their money. They they we don't happen
- 52:28Speaker 1: no more. What happened to it? It's gone there. Nothing
- 52:31Speaker 1: you can do do you look at things kind of thing,
- 52:34Speaker 1: nothing you can do. So you know that's what my
- 52:37Speaker 1: comedy I tried to be. I try to come from
- 52:40Speaker 1: a different angle makes me Yeah, And I try to
- 52:44Speaker 1: be educated. I try not to be stereotypic. I try
- 52:48Speaker 1: not to hurt another race as we're talking about, because
- 52:52Speaker 1: you gotta look at people who pay their money. White
- 52:55Speaker 1: people pay their money, Black people, Filipino, Chinese. If I
- 52:59Speaker 1: went to those two in committe, don't give who it
- 53:01Speaker 1: is and he said something about some black people, I'm
- 53:03Speaker 1: just I'm done. I don't care. I'm just interested in him.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I want to go. I want to go, just like
- 53:09Speaker 1: that Asian person would say the same thing, just like
- 53:11Speaker 1: that white person. You go to a black show, and
- 53:15Speaker 1: black comedians make the white people oh my. But know
- 53:19Speaker 1: that this week, you know, even when Bush, for example,
- 53:23Speaker 1: when Bush was in and talked about but I had
- 53:28Speaker 1: to find a way to talk about but but for
- 53:31Speaker 1: my white patrons that paid that money also so they
- 53:34Speaker 1: wouldn't feel uncomfortable. Right, So your your show is always
- 53:37Speaker 1: encompassing and all they thought provoking. And that's really Yeah,
- 53:41Speaker 1: That's why I wanted to talk to you about it,
- 53:42Speaker 1: because you know, like I said, you know, this this
- 53:44Speaker 1: platform that I have. Now, you know, I've been blessed
- 53:47Speaker 1: because everybody's coming on the show and and talking allowed
- 53:50Speaker 1: me to just talk and in my conversation don't have
- 53:53Speaker 1: any agenda tie to other than a conversational about success
- 53:57Speaker 1: and conversation about how we approach your way of being
- 54:00Speaker 1: an entrepreneur and making money. And that's what money making
- 54:03Speaker 1: conversation is all about. Now, you said November you're gonna
- 54:07Speaker 1: get back out there. What is that plan of getting
- 54:09Speaker 1: back out there are you? Are you starting to schedule
- 54:12Speaker 1: day or you maybe doing some tours or I'm gonna start.
- 54:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna start. I'm gonna start at a comedy club
- 54:17Speaker 1: that's outside two days at the end of September, like
- 54:21Speaker 1: September twenty seven time E t s in um Danville.
- 54:27Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna just I'm not gonna gonna go
- 54:29Speaker 1: up and just I don't know what I'm gonna talk
- 54:31Speaker 1: about because I don't I don't have I don't want
- 54:34Speaker 1: to talk about this corona. I just don't. I don't
- 54:36Speaker 1: even want talk about I don't want to hear that.
- 54:38Speaker 1: I want to talk about something socially, a whole new start.
- 54:42Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go in and get my head right
- 54:44Speaker 1: and come up with a whole new When I say,
- 54:48Speaker 1: a whole new way of thinking, for example, presidency. I'm
- 54:51Speaker 1: gonna run for presidents then, so I want you to
- 54:53Speaker 1: ask me what if I'm if I'm running for presidents,
- 54:58Speaker 1: asking me the question that you would ask the president then,
- 55:00Speaker 1: because I'm I think I'm gonna do a new special
- 55:02Speaker 1: on that. So right now, this is live. I'm Mark Curry.
- 55:05Speaker 1: I'm here, this is live. This is non scripted. Mark.
- 55:10Speaker 1: I hear you running for president. I'm just gonna ask
- 55:13Speaker 1: you right now, um um, some some people don't want
- 55:17Speaker 1: to wear a mask. Should we wear a mask? Mark Curry?
- 55:21Speaker 1: Does a mask? Y, Sir? Does a mask makes a difference? Yes?
- 55:25Speaker 1: I think a mask definitely makes a difference. If I
- 55:28Speaker 1: was president, everybody would wear a mask. It's just the
- 55:31Speaker 1: way it is. Even the dogs lose. The animals in
- 55:35Speaker 1: the zoo would wear a mask. Mask would be mandatory. Yes,
- 55:39Speaker 1: I got to wear a mask. I would keep people in.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I would keep people in for another year I was president.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Nobody come out for a year. One year, okay, Mr, Mr,
- 55:50Speaker 1: Mr President. Not only we wear a mask, Mr. Apologize,
- 55:54Speaker 1: you're not president yet, but you're running for president. Don't
- 55:57Speaker 1: want to jump ahead. Don't want to jump ahead. Okay.
- 56:00Speaker 1: The vaccine, the vaccine. Okay, it comes out, Will you
- 56:05Speaker 1: be the first in line to take it? No, I
- 56:08Speaker 1: would not. We will took those on death rows. We
- 56:11Speaker 1: will get those on death rows that have been convicted
- 56:14Speaker 1: of a crime. And we know that that crime. We
- 56:16Speaker 1: know that they did it by video. Now you know
- 56:19Speaker 1: in DNA, we know you did and you killed six people.
- 56:21Speaker 1: We're about to inject you with a vaccine. Sir, and
- 56:24Speaker 1: when the people protest, let them protest. We want you
- 56:27Speaker 1: to we this is terrible. We agree. Take us the court,
- 56:31Speaker 1: so those on death row would be the first one
- 56:33Speaker 1: to get the vaccine, and it would be on live video.
- 56:36Speaker 1: You can see the reaction. What happened? So, okay, being
- 56:42Speaker 1: that you are maybe the second black president of the
- 56:46Speaker 1: United States, and we saw how this state, this country
- 56:51Speaker 1: was happy. Then it became angered that there was a
- 56:55Speaker 1: black president. How would you stop this country from becoming angry?
- 57:00Speaker 1: Origin by you becoming the second president black president of
- 57:03Speaker 1: the United States. I cannot stop this country from being angry.
- 57:07Speaker 1: America was built on anger. If you look at America,
- 57:10Speaker 1: America has been built on anger. Where you know, so
- 57:14Speaker 1: they're gonna be angry at me. Of course they're gonna
- 57:17Speaker 1: be angry at me. But that's nothing I can't I
- 57:19Speaker 1: can't worry about that. I got things that will help healthcare.
- 57:23Speaker 1: For example, when you go to the airport and you
- 57:26Speaker 1: go to the X ray, we'll use those x rays.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Why you gotta go to X rays? You go to
- 57:30Speaker 1: the airport, We're gonna use those X rays to determine
- 57:32Speaker 1: what is wrong with you. So when we're gonna stop
- 57:34Speaker 1: you excuse me, what do that? You found some water?
- 57:37Speaker 1: Now we found the tumor. Step over here place you
- 57:39Speaker 1: can't get on this flight? You know, I think the
- 57:42Speaker 1: plane should be Yeah, hospital should be at the airport.
- 57:45Speaker 1: That's what most people are am I right in the
- 57:48Speaker 1: hospital at the airport. Let's be real here the homeless.
- 57:53Speaker 1: Let's look at the homeless. Stoppant, stop stop you still
- 58:01Speaker 1: wait a minute? Last homeless. I could deal with the homeless.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Let them be extras in the movie. Let them do
- 58:07Speaker 1: the same thing they're doing. Walk up and don't let
- 58:09Speaker 1: them walk around. They can walk around in the background.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Let him get paid it back after that way they
- 58:14Speaker 1: got help. Wake up America. You need Mark curious President
- 58:18Speaker 1: Mark Um, I ain't gonna lie to you, brother, fantastic.
- 58:24Speaker 1: That was all their problems. You didn't know what you
- 58:27Speaker 1: didn't know what question. We didn't prepare. This is great
- 58:30Speaker 1: coming along and uh, I ask you, Lenna, ask you
- 58:32Speaker 1: something because Batley Evan's gonna be managed if I bring
- 58:34Speaker 1: you on this show. Don't talk about in the cut.
- 58:37Speaker 1: And you know I know Bentley from Jamie Fox show
- 58:38Speaker 1: I was co executive do so to the show. I
- 58:40Speaker 1: would tell Bentley one of the people who are made
- 58:43Speaker 1: my career, one of the two lunch pins in my
- 58:45Speaker 1: success story has been in Hollywood. Now you're in the cut.
- 58:49Speaker 1: How did you get How did that opportunity to come
- 58:51Speaker 1: to you and getting into the cast like the Badley
- 58:54Speaker 1: Bentley called my agents. He said, Mark, I want Mark
- 58:57Speaker 1: him do this role. I love bent Me. I know
- 59:00Speaker 1: Bentley well. Some of my best worker has been with
- 59:03Speaker 1: Billy Jamie Fox as Sergeant Easy with Bentley. When I
- 59:08Speaker 1: was on Martin and Martin as a lawyer, that was
- 59:11Speaker 1: with Bentley. So Bidley knows me. He's a he's he's
- 59:13Speaker 1: a genius. And not only that, he's a great director
- 59:16Speaker 1: because he lets you go when you go on it's no,
- 59:18Speaker 1: he's not directing you to do this and do that.
- 59:20Speaker 1: It's basically, you know you you're an actor, and so
- 59:24Speaker 1: Billy's an actor, actor, director, director, which is awesome. So
- 59:27Speaker 1: he lets you do your thing, say what you want.
- 59:30Speaker 1: I could do anything I want. And I love the
- 59:32Speaker 1: end the cut because it was a character. I play
- 59:35Speaker 1: a guy, Wade, who's just fresh out of jail. He
- 59:38Speaker 1: just got out of jail for twenty years. And I
- 59:39Speaker 1: get a job at the at the barber shop with
- 59:43Speaker 1: Doria at the door. So this is so that's the beautiful.
- 59:46Speaker 1: When I and I heard a character like that, I said,
- 59:48Speaker 1: I take it. And so in the character I'm in,
- 59:51Speaker 1: I'm in character. I'm a method actor, so he doesn't
- 59:54Speaker 1: put shoes on. I'm the only actor who never wore
- 59:56Speaker 1: shoes in the scene. I wore slippers for the whole season. Okay,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: for the whole season. Now, okay, now, cutting hair and
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: jail and cutting hair out of jail, it's two different techniques. No,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: because I have a brother. He did it. He cut
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: my hair and he gripped my head and go, hey, brother,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: you don't have to hurt my head when you cut
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: my hand. Okay my hand. The jail cut is completely different.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: It really can think jail jail cut you ain't got
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: no marry and you ain't got no you don't get
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: a chance to see your hair too maybe the next day, right,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: and they gripped you hard and and they just used
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the raise to blame. There you go, just raise the blade.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: So so you get the opportunity to come on in
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: the cut. You win a director producer who allows you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: to be you. Now how important is that be to
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: trust in your natural instinct somebody allowing them to trust you?
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Because Mark, you know, it's a stand up you. You've
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: had to trust yourself all these years, you know, all
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the way from well, one thing about Rey Badley knows
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: he knows the acting. He knows it. And so when
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: you A lot of times I go on shows, I
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: don't want to say, but you know these shows I
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: think I know funny, but then they think they know
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: funny to Mark, can't you just say it with h
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: more urgency place? You know? Mark? Uh say apple and
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: you say apple? He said apple. It's apple. It's just
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: one apple, thank you? Okay boy? You know, and so
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: that that that rack, it drives me crazy because I'm American.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I think I'm funny, you know, I think you know,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: I think I know what's funny. You know, I held
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: the show in the syndication, so but that, you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: so as an actor, badly let you do your thing.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: And then working with Dorian and Khalita, they they're just
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: beautiful people. During is nice. He's cool and so it
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: ain't no tripping and he's funny and you know, and
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: he and he taught me things. He said, you know, Mark,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: it was my first I'm on the set, so you're
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: always in the teaching mode. So Dorian helped me out.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: So he was the o G on the set, teaching me,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: you know, what to do with a stand. Come over here, Mark,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: you know that does say that you know you know that,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: do you know? Teach me a little history. So that
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: was awesome. And Kalidas from Oakland, so she gave me
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: the warmth of just just the warmth on the set.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: A lot of times you're gonna set, they'd be funky
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: that you under set like boy, so just the warmth
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: of these actors, you know, to do this and this
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: is on our every Wednesday on the Bounce Network called
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: in the Cut, in the Cut, in the cut, he's uh,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: after twenty years have been in jail, he steps out
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: a job show and this is and this character is funny.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: It's so funny, you know. I think it's very funny.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I think that's why I want the people to watch,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: because we need to laugh, right. Bounce TV is giving
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: you the opportunity to It's free TV, but it's black
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: people and we're laughing and we ain't hurting nobody, and
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: that's the funny thing. And it's new. A lot of
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: TV you see ain't new. You know, you don't see
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: a lot of new TV. So that's true. That's true.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: When did you guys shoot the series? When was this shot?
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: We thought in December? Okay, so y'all got the name
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: before pre Covid. It's pre Covid and it's funny, and
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: it's new, and it's black people and it's dealing with
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: different issues and it's I think it's great. I never
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: saw it, so I haven't seen an episode, so I'm
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: excite me, you know. And I love Bound TV because
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: it's it's all black. I have one TV in my
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: house dedicated about because forty four hours a day it's black.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: So you get two o'clock in the morning you may
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: see if you know a black movie that you ain't
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: seen Oh man, I ain't seen that movie a long time.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: So I love Bound. So it's the win, win, win win.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: I'll tell you what it's a win when, um, hey, Mark,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: when you come back on my show, brother, you know,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: when we get out of this, I'll tell you everything
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I'm saying. I'm saying from an honest standpoint. Brother, Um
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: you are you are brilliant. You are brilliant. Um. I
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: want to give me, give me a topic, give me
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: a topic to go. I'm gonna leave on that kicking topic.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something funny. I don't like to
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: be off the cup. Come on the car Curry of
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: closing out the show, Mighty making conversations Mark Curry. Um,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I want to let you know is that, Uh can
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: I trust mail in voting? Can you trust mail in voting?
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: You can't trust any voting. You can't trust anything in America,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: so you can't trust. Black people should take that word
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: trust out of their vocabulary. No black person in America
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: should say the word trust in any situation. No trust. No,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: you can't trust anything mail in voting. It's all gonna
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: be stagnant if you talk about mail in voting. Remember
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: the Dimple Chad in Florida. Remember that you haul truck,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: You haul truck got missing the wake up America, Wake up,
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: wake up, wake up right? And I want I want
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: to ask you this man, what is the best food
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: to eat during the pandemic? What's the best food deed
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: best food to eat doing the pandemic? And soul fool
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: black soul food because it stays in your stunax seven days.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: It gives you everything you need to, gives you fat,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: it gives you sugar just in case something to go down.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: You can take a soul food plate and a soul
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: food plate. What will outlast anything? You a soul food
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: food plate with no heat, just sitting out there with
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: the last two weeks, and you know it will. And
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: that macaroni and cheese is still good. So much gravy
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: hide you're almost starting laughing. That's right. That's why. That's
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: why Black people dog die high blood pressure because they
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: eat what we eat. Black people dog don't die long,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: don't last long. White people be having dogs for forty
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: three years. So I had this dog, ain't chicks seven
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: black people? And what happened to Lucky? He died two
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: summers ago. You know why I can need to save
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: the scrap. The dog had high blood friends. I dated
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: dog and that's like you have black people dogs barking
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: in the backyard all the time marking that nothing. I
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: need some water knocked me out. Oh my god, Hey
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Mark Man, money making Mark, thank you for coming on
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: money making conversation. Brother, God bless you. Man. Don't change, brother,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: and if you need me, man, we talk. Man. I
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: love you, brother, and I got a lot of productions. Instagram. Alright,

- 1:06:57Speaker 1: a sense of one day. And our family bonds too,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: because when we disconnect from this and connect with this,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: we reconnect with each other. The forest is closer than
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: you think. Find a forest near you and start exploring.

- 1:07:28Speaker 1: But I'm filling in because There's a lot more to report,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: like when they're parched or windy conditions out there. You
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: gotta be extra careful with things like burning yard waste.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: After all, wildfires can start anywhere, even in your neck
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: of the woods. Go to Smokey bear dot com to
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: learn more about wildfire prevention brought to you by the U. S.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Forest Service, your state Forester, and the ad Council. And
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: we're live here outside the Perez family home, just waiting
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: for the and there they go, almost on time. This morning.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Mom is coming out the front doors wrong with a
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: double arm kid carry. Looks like Dad has the bags.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh, but the diaper
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere. But Mom
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: has just nailed the perfect car seat buckle for the toddler.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: And now the eldest daughter, who looks to be about
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: nine or ten, has secured herself in the booster seat.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Dad zips the bad clothes and they're off. But looks

- 1:09:16Speaker 1: CEO CEO of Slutty Vegan. She's opening the conversation on
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: vegan food options for people who have never considered them
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: in communities that have such high numbers and hypertension, cholesterol, obesity,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: and a host of other food arable food born elements.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: And Slutty Vegan, they have combined suburb taste with plant

- 1:09:35Speaker 1: little naughty. Please work with money making conversations. My friend
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: Pinky Colt, how you doing it? Big A doing very well?
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Because you know that's when people see you big. What's
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: that big guy? You are? Believe how many intros I get?
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: But you know what, as long as they call it
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: my name, I'm doing something. You know. But you know
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: when you just che people say that, big guy, can
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: you get it into the front of the line, this
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: last longer? Can you move me up front? Can you
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: move me up front? Come on it all the time? Well,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: you know I've known about you. I've lived in Atlanti
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: since two thousand seven. Uh and I eat all types
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: of food. So for as a person who always look
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: at talent and always looking at trying to reach out
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to people who are doing something unique in the community
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: when it comes to food, what allowed you to separate
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: yourself when with other restaurants. I'm not just talking about
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: vegan restaurants, just just other brands. You know, you're such
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: a competitive market. You know, Atlanta has such a strong
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: restaurant market. One has allowed you to separate. That's my
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: first question I want to ask you about vegan. Well,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: the first thing is timing right. I think often times, um,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: we really don't understand how important timing of a thing is. Right.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: So if you know anything about Uber and Lyft, there
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: were other companies that started they did the same exact
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: thing at the same exact time, um as uber and left.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: But those businesses didn't work. But the timing of Uber
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: and Lyft was so on point that it gave them
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: the opportunity to really survive in the market that really
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: didn't even exist at that time. So I say all
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: that to say that the time named for slutty Vegan
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: couldn't be better, right. I started my company during an
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: arrow and one people started to walk into a new
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: level of consciousness to be at least even interested and
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: wanting to eat better. That's number one right. Secondly, they said, okay,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: all right, so vegan is not a same thing, but
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: like we're open to try it because it really doesn't
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: exist on the main stream, but it's here. But like,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: nobody has ever made it cool. So what I did
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: was I made it cool. But I didn't just focus
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: on the food element. I focused on the experience. So
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: rashand you said it, um, when when you ask the question,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: you said the marketing, right, So we put so much
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: emphasis in the marketing um from the timing that we
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: got to do this thing that it allowed us to
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: be one of the businesses that everybody knows and love.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: So yeah, to the to the naked eye, and they
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: just seem like a restaurant, But it's bigger than the restaurant, right,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: It's bigger than burgers and fries. We're making people excited
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: about a lifestyle. And I don't know that a lot
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: of businesses do that, but I feel like that's the
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: formula to our success. Is that just like Pepsi and
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Coca Cola, right, like, they're selling a lifestyle experience and
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: then you come get the product based on the experience.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: And we've been able to do that and that's such
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: such apart from a lot of the other businesses and
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: began businesses that you see. But we upslay that whole
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: marketing and that experience to get people excited about the brand. Uh,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: you know, let's let's get to the heart of it.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: You are a star, Okay, I've worked around stars. You
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: know that. You see my bio. I know when I
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: say you star. So you can give me all that
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: little nice marketing you know Steve Harvey, He's sold ticket
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: because he was Steve Harvey. Okay, yeah, he worked hard,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: he marketed, he worked on his jokes, but he separated
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: himself because he believes in himself. Plus he had a
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: unique ability to communicate and unique ability. Same thing with
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Stephen A. Smith, Same thing Timmis anything with it, Jamie Foxx,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: same thing with Monique, all these people I worked with,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Gabrielle Union and Nick Cannon, and you fall in that
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: class of people who clearly can be talented at someplace else,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: but have chose to be talented in the food industry
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: and the food service industry. Why did you choose discourse Because,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: like I wanted you to say that, because sometimes when
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I get people on the show, especially uniquely talented people,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: like on the show, you tend to want to give
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: me a glove, a global perspective on your success. Okay, everybody,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: Vegan just didn't start last week. You know that. Okay,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: you might come on. It's interesting because like I can
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: only be real and raw, right, Vegan wrong, just Vegan wrong.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I can only I can only be Vegan raw. But
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: you also said it to listen, people love me, yes,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: because people love me, they're going to buy into the
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: experience because they're being the person that curates that experience.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: But it all speaks in the same breath, right, They're
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: gonna fall in love with the marketing and want to
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: be a part of the experience, But they also know
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: who created that experience. And I loved you before I
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: knew what you did. Oh, I appreciate that, I'm saying, Okay,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I understand that. Okay, you know, people know, people know brands.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: You know, if if people know about Chick fil A
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: and they've never eating a chicken sandwich from Chick fil A,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: and so so the same thing. So your marketing has
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: made you a mainstay in conversation. In other words, you
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: could say that you are are the voice of you know,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I'm just telling you. You know a lot of people
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: can listen to show go why he's saying that. But
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: you all become a brand, a vegan brand, a voice,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: and so when you speak, there's so much credibility tied
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: to it because the success is tied to it. You know,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: the social media numbers are tied to it. You know,
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: your community uplift is tied to it. So you will
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: beyond just the restaurant and people lining up. People see
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: a soul of spirit, and you understand how to connect
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: to two. And so that's why I say, is that, Yeah,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: we can talk about the marketing, but let's get to
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: the core of why this is successful. It's you one
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: you willing to put in. I always tell people there
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: are twenty four hours in a day. Learn to use
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: every hour of that. You do that, you get up
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: at the same time all the time you do that,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: you committed the uplifting people, not only yourself but also
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: the community because you figured, hey, your God has blessed
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: you is even a bigger blessing if you share those opportunities.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: You do that, and then you know, if you're trying
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: to me, if you're tying me talking about this is good,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: let's talk, I shut up and listen to you for me,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: because see, I can't stand people who are talented. Won't
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: let nobody talk good about it. Just just cut me
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: off right in the middle of one of one of
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: the one of them, one of them, one of them
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: come to the mountain speeches. But you know, I'm gonna
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: get do what you gotta do. You know, conversations. I'm
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: gonna tell you I'm excited about these conversations because I
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: work extremely hard, but I don't I don't I don't
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: look for the credit, right, So for you to give
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: me my flowers, I want to say that I appreciate
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: you because like it's not my intention to get the flowers,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Like I work hard because I love to do this
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: like this when I say, like I wake up in
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: the morning at six o'clock every single morning because my
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: brain is wired like that, because I know that I'm
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: fulfilling my mission every single day, like I love I'm
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: in love with that. So to hear you speak on
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: me like that, like I like, I value that, and
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I want to say say you um, because you know,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: sometimes you can always just be in a weezeeze weeds,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: but like just to stop down. So I'm sitting here
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: laughing when you're saying these things about me, and and
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: that feels good in my spirits. Let's let's just google
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: a little missus Pinky Coats dot com, Been a Southern

- 1:17:37Speaker 1: You know, you know who image? Every time I cool?
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: You know what image I see? I see Pinky co
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: the Queen of v Thank you, man, I appreciate that.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: And you know, let me tell you something. I'm listening now.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: I'm I'm listening to you. I accidentally into this right
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: so like I'm sure you've probably read about it before,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: but no, I'm new. I don't know nothing about you.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Talk to me like I because like I told you,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I knew you before you have food. I didn't know
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: what somebody told me. You know what she does that
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: vegan stuff. Yeah, but continue to educate me about you,
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: because you wouldn't let me talk about you, so obviously
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: gonna tell me something I don't know. So continue to talk,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: miss pink. I'm learning you something. So the day that
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: I was born, while I was getting my freedom, my
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: father was losing his He was being sentenced to life
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: in prison. He ended up doing twenty two years. So
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: growing up, my mother was working three and four jobs
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: every single day. Immigrants, you're making woman, making sure that
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: the lights were always on, that we always had food
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: on the table. We weren't. We weren't, we weren't eating
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: what the average family was eating. But that's what we
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: made the best out of the big beans and right
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: when we did it, and she just made sure that
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: we had everything that we needed. We may not have
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: had everything that we wanted, but we that's only surely
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: had what we needed. So I remember maneuvering through life,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: always wanting to figure out ways to put my mother
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: in position so that she didn't have to work that
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: hard because my father was in prison. Meanwhile, my father
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: would call me from prison from federal prison, telling me
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: what books to read, telling me about stocks and bonds,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: and telling me like how to how to be a
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: boss and a leader. So I took those experiences and
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I made them my own. I started throwing parties at
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: fourteen years though. I was making four thousand dollars every
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: single week. I remember counting money with my mother on
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: the couch, making more than my mother in high school.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I'm selling candy, selling food. Just always wanted to create
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: and just to just to get a residual off the
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: things that I put together. Right then, when I got
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: to college, I paid my way through college by doing
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: hair right. So beyond that, I've just always found ways
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: to make money. Um, and to create things that people
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: would be satisfied out with. So in I came up
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: with this concept after working at the Mori Show as
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: a television producer, called Pinky's Jamaican an American restaurant. And
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: I had this restaurant. It was doing well. I did
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: my research. I didn't literally I just wanted to have
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: a business. I'm not a chef. I just liked to
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: cook as a passion project. I'm Jamaican. I like food.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: So I came up with this concept and it was
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: doing extremely well for me not to know anything about business.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: But then I realized that I needed to lose that
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: restaurant in order for it to propel me to to
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: be who you see today, right, So I had a
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: greef fy at that restaurant, UM. And then I got
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: an opportunity to work as a casting director on the
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: TV show called Iona Fixed My Life. And while I
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: was on that show, UM, I eventually moved to Atlanta
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: temporarily UM to work. And then I was in the
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: house one day and I came up with Letty vegans.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: But never in a million years if you'd have told
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: me two years ago that that I bed room idea,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: that I created would be one of the hottest contests
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: in the country. I would have told you we're lying,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: but I has that to say, you know, almost you
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: said that to say what pinky? And it almost felt
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: like it was going accident, But it was really divine right.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: It was supposed to happen. And and and now when
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: I look at things, I realized that like I was
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: walking in my purpose all along, it just manifested through
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: sloody Vegan. And now we're here. You're listening to money

- 1:22:24Speaker 1: money making conversations. I'm your host, Sean McDonald. So how
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: did the name sloody Vegan come about? Because you said
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: you came up with it? Did you share with anybody?
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: Did you joking in came up with? How did they
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: come up? How was it? Who sits there? You sit
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: up in your get your head against the headboard. How
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: wire you were you land? Where will you? How will
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: you sit? Let me tell you I had some medicinal marijuana.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: See what you do? A couple of money making conversation.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: I was just look, that's a part of this story
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: that I don't really talk about. That's a book bar
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: But I'm gonna give you that piece. But I was
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: I was sitting in the bed, and I was going
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: to somebody cloud and I come up with a million
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: ideas all the time. I just if I don't something
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: about being able to create ideas. It's almost like when
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: a rapper freestyles, I could do that what I did.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: And so we're sitting in the same room for at
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: least ten minutes. I didn't came up with about ten ideas,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: and somebody walking away with a billion dollar idea. So
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I was sitting in the house and I had my
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: medicinal marijuana and and and and it came to me like, oh,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: floody vegan, because I knew that if I created Pinky's vegan,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: it wasn't going to have the same traction. And how
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: did I know that. I knew that because working in TV,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: I know what people pay attention to. I know that
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: sex cells, I know it's gonna make them change the channel.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: I know what they're gonna be tuned into. So I said,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna take the two most pleasurable
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: experiences in life, and that sex and that s food,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: and I put it in the pot and I'm a
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: skirt and I'm gonna create something that's going to require
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: people to ask questions because guess what, the vegan lifestyle
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: wasn't totally cool, right. It wasn't something that black people,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: especially was saying, Oh, you know, let me get this
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: cool schools. They're not in that. They're like this, this
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: ain't got no flavor. I ain't in that. So how
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: could I create something that's going to get people who
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: don't normally eat like this to at least be interested
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: in having a conversation. So the name sounded racey and
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I liked it. So many people was like, Oh, that's
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: too racy, that ain't gonna work. But I'm like, guess
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: what if you can't get past the idea that we're
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: not selling sex, we're actually selling a lifestyle, but we're
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: using sex as as the buffer to get people to
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: pay attention to That's exactly what I did, and it worked,
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: and there was only I was just having this conversation. Earlier,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: I got an opportunity um to participate in the Super
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Bowl in twenty nineteen, and they wanted me to change
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: their name. And at that point I realized, listen, I
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: can never waiver on what I created because I created.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: It wasn't mentional. I created it for a reason. And
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: if people can't get past that intention and that mission,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: that those are people that I don't want to work with.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: And it's okay, you don't have to work with everybody.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: So here I am. Two years later, I got listen,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: I got kids saying slutty Digan, Christians, Muslim. It don't
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: matter your age, your creed, you wherever you're from. People
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: are talking about slutty Vegan. You know why because not
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: only is it a burger joint, We're helping the community.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: We're giving back, we're providing resources, we're giving opportunities, we're
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: showing people would have looked like to be an unconventional entrepreneur,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: and we're changing the way that people think about food.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: If you if you don't fall in love it for
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: at least one of those things, you're just a hater.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: And that's that. You know what I'm saying. I get.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: But if you see, I don't pay attention to that
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: because I'm on the strait and narrow and I know
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: that I have something so great that will not only
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: change the dynamic of my family, it will also change
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: the world. Well you do fifty nine thousand Instagram followers.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something. You know, when when I
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: sat up and talked to a little I'm gonna call
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: you a baby genius. You know, because you know the
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: baby genius here she up there in her bed. You
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: know she got marketing skills. She can articulate you guys,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: hear that on it. You know she you know, she
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: put like four or five sentences in a row. I
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: could actually just answer a question. She talking to five minutes.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: I just have to cut off because it's my shild
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: She's not gonna do it's come on my show and
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I'll talk meet now, okay, on amazing games. Now now
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: you said, you said I put I took what people
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: love the most, food and sexs put them in the pot,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: and I just start stirring. Let's start talking about that menu.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Because see, you're right, you know, because of the fact
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: that I feel that your name created such a high
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: level of curiosity that they brought in your age group,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: which is really key. And that's why I feel you successful,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: because you know, because because vegan ism to me, to
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: me was always felt like older generation food. You know,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: they're trying to eat before you know, they figured out
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: they need to start eating because they have they blood
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: pressure too. How they're trying to get light right. You
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: made this hip for your generation because you are a millennial.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: But you know it's so crazy. Let me tell you
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: something real quick. Sorry to cut you off, but I
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: gotta say that I don't know why. Okay, okay, okay,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: you know next time, I know it just COVID the team.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: You're gonna we're gonna see each other. Next time. I'll
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: just let you know we're gonna see each other. Listen,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: the Aunties they love me. That's demographic is actually not
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the millennials. It's the more it's the people that are
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: conservative that make a medium like like, listen, thirty five
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: to fifty five is my core audience that I see those,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: I see the lines I see listen. These are women
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: who have children, These are women who are conservatives. They
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: literally this ain't it ain't even just the millennials. You
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: got the older people, the people that support me the most.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: I laughed and joke with my friends. I'm like, listen,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I don't get what y'all say. The Aunties love me.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: And as long as I got the Aunties in my
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: back pocket, I'm good, right, right, and you got it?
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: And so three nine thousand Instagram follows. Now, how how
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: does that help your business to have that amound social
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: media force tied to your you know, certified account and
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: it's Instagram. Um so, so beyond just Instagram followers, right,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: we have different channels where we have different audiences. On
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: so Facebook you may truly get like the aunties and
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: the families, and then on Instagram you get the younger people.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: But then we also have a community text group where
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: I can text my consumer, right, I can text them
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: like I'm having a regular conversation with them, and we
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: do that. We do it in the most organic way.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: I'm texting them like, hey, big head, what you're doing?
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Come see me? And then I put the restaurant address,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: So I have about seven thousand people in there, and
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: then I have twenty thousand people on my email blast.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: So how it helps me is that, however I want
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: to communicate with my people, I can use a different
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: channel to do that and a different tone to do
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: that to get my message across. So say, God forbid
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Instagram chets down today. I know I got different channels
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: to communicate with the people, but It's been a benefit
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: to me nonetheless, because I can touch the people. And
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: that's why they love Vegan Because you see here, you
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: see a restaurant concept that is moving into a corporate
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: structure of the business. We're moving at scale, we're open
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: up new locations, but we still have the voice of
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: the people, right we we we still insert things that
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: are happening in the culture into the business in an
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: authentic way where that's that's not exploiting people, but making
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: people feel comfortable and safe to say that. Guess what
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: I see myself in this business. I see the journey.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I can follow the journey and I can grow with
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: this journey because I feel like I'm a part of it,
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: and we make people feel a part of that journey.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: And that's really why it works. So we're able to
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: use the channels um that we have, and we have
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: multiple channels, and we grow those channels every single day. Great, fantastic.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: You're are a marketing guru. Now you come on my show.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I got u ninety three thousand fan club members of
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: my Little Blast. I got when my Facebook at almost
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: eight hundred thousand Facebook. I say all this because I
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: know you open it up a new a third location
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: in Atlanta, Georgia. Correct, Okay, can you can little low
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: Rashawn McDonald money Making Conversation dot Com, can he help
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: promote your brand? Can you can I do that for you? Sure?
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: You know, because you're a marketing machine. I'm just saying,
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: I finally I got you in my life, Pinky. I
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: don't want to let you go, So I got I
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: gotta boy down to the queen. Now. You know, when
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: you know, when you when the queen come in the room,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: you gotta stand out from everybody else. You know, you
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: know I ain't got no six pack. I gotta stand
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: that with marketing. I got the marketing over here, so
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: we definitely get something together your third location. Tell us
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: about your third location, because I'm gonna feature that Rashaun Eats.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: I dropped that every Wednesday on my Facebook page, Agent
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: on my Instagram, I gotta like about forty thousand followers
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: on my Instagram account, and of course I got my
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: YouTube account forty thousand on my YouTube Money Making Conversation
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: dot Com. More importantly, you know, I I feel comfortable
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: and being able to joke around with you because of
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: the fact that you know you're you're a real person
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: in the community. But before we get into your community,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I want to talk about this third location you're opening,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: telling people why you're opening it. You know, we're coming
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: out of the pandemic. Okay, we're not need out of
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: the pandemic. If you made a decision to open up
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: a third restaurant, talk about it. Where is it located at? UM?
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: So you know what I learned about slutty vegan and
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: slutty vegans, the weather proof right um and slutty vegans
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: covid proof. As long as we continue to do what
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: we've been doing and learn how to pivot. And I
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: think that that's the beautiful thing about entrepreneurs, knowing how
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: to pivot, right, like being a chameleon, and like facing
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: adversity and understand how to like change that adversity into
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: a benefit to your business. And I think that I've
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: been able to do that very well. And I say
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: all that to say that I just opened up another
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: lit a second location a month ago that got lined
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: down the block. So now I got two locations with
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: lines down the block. Any day now I'm opening my
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: third location and historic fourth Ward on Edgewood, UM and
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: I'm doing that also in the middle of a pandemic.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: But I'm excited about that location because there's so much
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: history there. Martin Luther King grew up um less than
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: than two minutes away from that location, so there's a
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: lot of historic elements. Um, you got all burned over there.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: So there's a lot going on in that neighborhood. And
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: I feel like we can continue to revitalize Edgewood when
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: we put a new staple in the community like Floody Beacon.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: That's not just coming just to make money. We're coming
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: to to really like help the community grow right and
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: be better. And that's what we do in every single community.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: So Edgewood is opening in the next few days. I'm
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: excited about it. It's three thousand square feet. Um, we
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: got a full on kitchen. It's really just going to
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: be experienced, right. People come and they could feel like
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: they're at home when they come to Edgewood. When they
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: come inside of Floody Deagon, they're going to see pieces
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: of history that's gonna remind them why Atlanta is so necessary,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: why Edgewood is so necessary, and why business and converse
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: is so necessary. So you'll you'll get pieces of that
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: you're gonna get pieces of of the HBCUs that are
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: in the community. You're gonna get elements of people who
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: have taken Atlanta to the next level through politics, through
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: business like You're gonna get a lot of that. And
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: what we've learned how to do in a great way
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: and we continue to do it, is we know how
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: to teach and we know how to hide the education
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: um inside of the experience. And that's what we're gonna
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: be doing the Edgeword. So I'm excited. After Edgewood, We've
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: got two more locations that were opening up in Atlanta,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: and then I'm on to the next day because we're
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: growing and God is good man. Now I'll start trying
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: to figure out why I admit your I'm gonna call
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: you short because you because you because you're talking all
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: this noise to be right now. Now, a couple of
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: things that you're joined in the community. Here this this
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: national jiggle contest that you had, which I thought was
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: super smart with my boar big ticker over there V
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: one oh three in Atlanta, Georgia. And then you're doing
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: something with his Georgia Department of Julia Juvenile Justice, the
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: d JJ with the ten thou dollar scholarship of jobs
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: at your at your just all tied through the Pinky
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Cold Foundation and you being Pinky Cold that owned the
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: Slowly Vegan restaurant. These are both empowering formats. One is
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: empowering and for entertainment purposes and let people know that
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: they get the opportunity to work with an establish a
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: national known recording artists. Right there alone means that you
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: got juice. And then you're on the show with my
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: board Big Tiger on a on a one o three
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: v one o three and then now you're doing the
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: d JJ with the Georgia Department. So talk of the
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: reason behind both of its adventures, I should say, and
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: because I watched my mother being philanthropist. She was, she
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: was a hood philanthropist. She didn't even realize what she
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: was doing. But you watch it, though, but you watch,
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: but I watched her right, So like I remember being
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: a kid and we got ten people living in the house,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: so like the community community was embedded in me. As
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: a kid, I didn't understand what was happening, but I
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: just knew that there were people coming from Jamaica that
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: were standing at my mother's house. That that we didn't
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: share the same blood, but they became family right. So
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: all through my life I absorbed that watching my mother
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: do that and saw her selfless attitude and behavior and
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: how she moved as a queen, and I really like
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: captured that from my mother. So as an adult, it's
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: full circle. And I laught for my mother about this because, like,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: philanthropy is at the core of who I am, right,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: So I'm a magnet. The money money is gonna come
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: to me. I'm gonna get it regardless, But to be
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: able to help people and provide resources for people, that
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: is more money than any dollar bill could ever be
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: in my bank account because I know that I get
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: to uplift people and I know that those blessings are
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: going to come back ten folds. So when I created
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: the foundation, I created it because one being totally transparent
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: my finance God like, Jinky, you're spending a lot of money.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: How do people were like, what we're gonna do? I said,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: you know what, let's put some structure to this because
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: I'm the type of person I'm gonna take the shirt
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: off my back to help somebody else. So I created
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: my foundation to do exactly what I do in my
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: real life help people. So I partner with the Department
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: of Juvenile Justice to provide opportunities to thirty x juvenile
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: of vendors, right because I see them as people and
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: I know what it felt like to be on a
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: receiving end of somebody being caught up in the system.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: So I wanted to help them and show them a
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: different way of life. That's number one. UM. Number two
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: providing resources for businesses in my area, the businesses in
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: which I served, you know, I've helped them um financially
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: support themselves while going through COVID and making sure that
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: the people around me are doing good. Because if I'm
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: doing good and they're not doing good, then I'm not winning, right.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: That's number two. UM. Number three in my foundation, I'm
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: doing something called vote nick Um with Jamaine dupri and
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Impossible Fools to get people excited about voting. So at
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: the end of the day, I don't care who you
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: vote for. This vote because guess what, Once upon a time,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: we didn't have the right and the ability to do that.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: So now that you have an opportunity to do that,
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: exercise it however you do it. Just exercises so that
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: your voice could be heard. But those are just three
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: of the million things that we've already done in the foundation.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: But it feels good to know that I can use
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: that platform to help people build generational wealth. Oh and
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: the one thing that I didn't this is the biggest
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: thing that I'm working on, and I'm actually about you
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: forget something, Okay I am. I'm partnering with um Derrek Kay's.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: He owns a restaurant called Big Days Cheese Steaks. We're
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: doing a life insurance initiative where we're providing life insurance
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: for every single black man in Atlanta who makes thirty
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: tho dollars a less um so that they don't have
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: to pay for So what I do is like real
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: community works. Right. So like I called myself a hood politician, right,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: I'm not like I'm not super versed in politics that
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: to be honest, that's really not my thing. However, I
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: like to help people, and I know that I can
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: reach the community by helping them and showing them that
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: there's a better way by providing them sources, giving them
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: access to information because you know, people don't really want
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: to give us access. But now I'm gonna make it
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: my responsibility to provide access resources and to show people
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: about financial literacy. The things that I did learn now
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: I know that I can show you and I do
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: all of that through my foundation. Well, she is the Queen.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: I love her. The first time we've actually talked, this
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: first time we've actually communicated, and she got to hear
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: what I think about her, and I hope she understands
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: this is an under talk from somebody who recognizes gifted people.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: And more importantly, her community involvement is really to me
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: more important than her food, and her food is the
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: bonus part of who she is because she is not
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: forgotten that it takes a whole to be successful, not
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: a half. You have to you have everybody has to
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: be part of the opportunity. And she understands that and
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: she values that. Sluggy Vegan is a is a product.
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: It started, like she said, started in her bedroom. I
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: always tell people on this show, you have to be
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: motivated by an opportunity and you have put a plan
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: in place, and you have to give effort for that
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: plan to be successful. That's what you've done, Pinky with
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: your brand. You know, it's an idea. We all have ideas,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: and you decided that you guess what, I'm gonna put
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: it in place. And then when people try to try
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: to twist it, try to come in with a crazy
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: idea of question you. First of all, you whenever I
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: want tell people, whenever somebody questioned you on your idea,
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: ask them how much have they participate? Are they participated
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: with money? Are they participating with work responsibility? Or they
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: just participating because they're just verbally commenting those people have
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: to ignore it first, and then when you when you
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: get your business rolling, you have to understand people asking
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: you to compromise. If anybody ever asked you to compromise
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: on your idea for a one time event, that's a
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: bad idea. That's a bad idea because you will never
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: be able to recover because for the you always be
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: walking away going I should not have done that, and
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: why did I do it? Because you compromise your values
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: and you refuse to do that. And guess what you're
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: all over this? Are we going out of the state here?
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: What's what's happening here with bloody VVA? You know, at first,
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: why are you not on TV here? You know it's
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: funny I got two TV office right now? Okay, okay,
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: let's go then, okay, cool, Please please be on TV.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: Okay if they don't, if they don't, come, happy, come
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: talk to Rishane mcdal. We get it all straight. Okay,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: but you're special and I think that for my my
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: whole take on you being on TV. The food is awesome,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: but they gotta they gotta capture you. I'm actually working
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: on a TV show, UM where I am helping struggling
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: black and brown businesses UM revitalize their brands. So so
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: we're so that's one of the shows and the other
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: show is UM a Dinner at Pinky, So to two
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: shows that that will potentially be on major network. So
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: we're in the process of that happening right now. So
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: I'm working. You keep me posting and I just um,
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: I just got a book deal with Simon is Shoester,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: so I'm excited about it. That's my girl over there.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: You with my girl. Uh Don Davis. No, I'm not okay,
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: she she's the she's the ball. But guess what, you're

- 1:41:26Speaker 1: to get those uh all that from. Every time you
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: open a restaurant, please let me know so I can
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: support you. And I'm serious about that. Twice in mind.

- 1:42:23Speaker 1: have dreamt about creating since I became interested in transplant
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: as a trainee, and it's a program designed to address
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: the significant disparities that are African American patients space. The
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: program is designed to educate patients about transplant, let them
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: know what transplant can provide to them, and to help
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: them access the resources that they find so scarce and
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: so challenging to access in order to get them on
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: the transplant path and back to, you know, some type

- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Candice holy Field, Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I am proper honored to be here and I appreciate
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: you so so much. Well, I thank you for appreciating me.
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: First of all, you're an entrepreneur and you're part of
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: the uh the fastest division of growth women Black women
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: as entrepreneurs in America. Why in the world of entrepreneurship.
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: You know, we've seen how especially black women have been
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: you know, the matriarchs of the families stay home, you know,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: take care of the kids. The husbands work, go out
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: and do the work. What is your mindset, Kansas, that
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: makes you an entrepreneur? Um, guess my mind. I'm gonna
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: tell anybody I am an entrepreneur because I want to
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: free you know, I want my kind. I want to
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: be able to do what I want to do when
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: I get ready. Um so that's why I am on entrepreneur.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: I know everybody has a you know on reason why
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: they do what they do, but for me, I just,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: you know, I really wanted my freedom. I worked the
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: job for years and I couldn't do what I wanted
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: to do, whether it was time or financial. But now
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: that I have been an entrepreneur for the last ten years,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: I'm pretty much made a place where I can do
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: what I want to do. And that's the most you
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: know things that I love the most of that being
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: an entrepreneur. So why is that important? Because you're nine
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: to five, you get vacation page, you get sick days page,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: you get a potential for one k. You know, the
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: steady week, that's pretty much guaranteed if you're a stable
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: place of employment every week bi weekly payments of weekly payments.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: That sounds so good to go out there and being
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: an entrepreneur there there's no certain things out there, So
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: what is inspiring you? What is what is forcing you
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: on enabling you to walk past all that insert uncertainty.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: So I am a spot professional. I was a license
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: sage therapy for years. And you know, I worked a job.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: I worked for a spar company, UM, and I had
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: to clock any out. You know, if Karen wasn't on
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: the book, you know, I had to sit there at
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: the job and not get paid. So I got I
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: got paid. I was based off how many people I
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: took in in the day. My income was not Gary
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: feed as a spot professional because we get paid totally different.
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: So we get paid per person that we actually took.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: So if nobody was on the books, we wasn't get bade.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: So you've always been an entrepreneur in a sense. Then
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: I actually was a waitress about thirteen years. Uh and
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: just think case you're don't know anything about you know,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: being a waitress. The long as we worked there, the
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: more levels you have to kind of do what you
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: wanted to do. Um. And so I did it get
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: for thirteen years. But you know, I made the same
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: amount of money every single month, Like I knew how
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: much I learned about how much money, how was going.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: You knew to peak with kids, and you know the
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: days and the shifts that were strong and and you know,
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: but but that's but that's just knowing information. But that
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: doesn't mean that's information that's going to change your life.
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: And so being entrepreneur, if you were, you know, you
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: learned the peak times, you know the type of customers,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: the places to go. So so you were licensed, but
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: that doesn't mean that's because you know, I haven't had
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: massagies in my life. My daughter was with a professional
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: tennis player, so we have to have massage. We go
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: to massage therapists for her and sometimes we've invite them
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: by the home depending on she had a match schedule.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: So but to still step out there on your own though,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: in the industry, black industry, because black people are interesting
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: when it comes to to what we do with you,
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: which seems like a norm when it comes to the
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: white white people. And I have to say it like this.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: You know, white people, they vacation differently, they take care
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: of their bodies differently. They they massages or foot feed,
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: pedicures and manicures. So what made you feel that you
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: can open the door to black people in this small
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: industry and to be successful based on your vision, believe
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: it or not. When I first get into these a
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: lot of my clients were occasions and me, first of all,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: believe it or not. I believe it. Okay. That's why
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I made that big speech before I talked to I'm
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: not shocking a boy black people. I go this small
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: is enough to know black people not sitting in the
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: lobby waiting, Okay. I'm I'm one of whatever or whoever
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: came in there with me. Okay, So so I will
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: not be shocked. And that's why I'm just saying this
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: is a very you see a market out there, but
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: it's not responsive based on the client lists that you have,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: and so I just want to let you know that
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: is one of the reasons I brought you on the show,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: which to show people that don't you can't go to
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: go against the norm and be successful or the perception
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: and be successful. And that's what you're accomplishing in the
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: in this in the smart industry as an African American woman.
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: You can continue. Now that you know Shan understands that.
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: Believe it or not. Thank you. That was a bay.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: I love it. I love it, uh, And what happened?
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: You know? I thought always having all these Caucasian clients
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: and it just done on me, like, hey, you know,
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: this is not something that we are doing. So I
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: always tell everybody. I made massage cool for black people. Um.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: I got on Facebook first, I got on you know,
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: the Instagram, and I just made like a really big
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: deal to come and get these maccabis in my strategy
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: with spot parties and these spot parties for years. I
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: started out doing kids spy party, So every little black
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: kid in our whole city of Mithias where I'm from,
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: I product beside and be a little facial for all
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: of them. Um. And of course if I was doing
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: the kids, the adults was like, I want to face
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: you and I want to masside. And so that time
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: my beds and tuned into an a brain because I
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: really was doing kids in the beginning, and I just
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: made it cool. And at that time, ten years ago,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: I didn't even understand woking, but I knew the power
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: of just showing up. So I showed up on Facebook
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: every day, I showed up on Instagram, you know once
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: he came about every day and people just always saw me.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: And when I first got my uh, when I first
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: went to massage school, everybody asked me why did I
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: want to do massage? Everybody telling me that I was
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: not going to make any money as a massage therapyople
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: and I'm so glad now you know, I proved them wrong.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: But I just made massage super cool. And I showed
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: up all over the place promoting my brain who I
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: was and what I did. And now everybody I know black,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: you know, love the spot and get massage is and face.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: He was like all the time. It's part of while
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: you know, monthly we illness. Uh keep wow, you know that?
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: Did you know the interesting thing that I like, I
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: was talking to the owner of the Slutty Vegan Pinky
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: and you know, now she's opening up several locations during
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: the pandemic, you know, and this is these are vegan
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: change vegan restaurants that she's just called the Slutty Vegan.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: And a lot of people told her that, well, girl,
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: that name is gonna stop you. Girl, don't not enough.
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: People don't know who eat that. I don't know people
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: don't eat that. Nobody Atlanta gonna eat all that. Now
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: she got several Slutty Vegan Vegan locations and people are
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: standing in line at several locations. So and I asked her,
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: you know about overcoming negative spirits and so the same
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: thing with you, you know, because you have to sleep
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: at home, and sometimes you're the only person that looks
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: in the mirror in the morning and you look back
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: and sometimes you have to answer the question that you
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: that you're asking yourself looking at yourself, how do you
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: how did you overcome that? You know who who who
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: stepped in and like put their arm around that we
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: can do this? Or was it just you? Um? In
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: the beginning, it was just you know, myself, you know,
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: in the beginning, even you know, my family, it was
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: about I didn't think nothing was gonna happen, So it
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: was just myself in the beginning, you know, I was
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: away Tress and I was like, I just I gotta
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: do something different. Um, So it was just me and
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: then me moving to Atlanta. My first went towards the Brina.
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: She was the owner of the glam University or UM
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: in Atlanta. I massaged her, I went to her event
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: in death. Game just changed for me in Atlanta and
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: death when I started the process to become a millionaire. Um,
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: and dad was back in two thopands between. But she
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: was the very first person the Ganning University on Antiguan
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: who just I don't know, like she just woke up
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: something in me. And I just started seeing things you know,
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: for myself for my business that I just never made
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: and before. And that was my practice too, owning a
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: seven figure brand back in two thousands, between you when
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: I met her now two thousand. In two thousand, don't
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: trudge nobody, mass shake down, shut it down, Black people
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: overtly affected by the covid NA teen virus, no vaccine insight.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: What is running through your by old law, your faith
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: to being tested, your religion be attested? What did you
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: what were you thinking in March when all this is
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: going down? Kansice? So actually in March, um, I don't
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: want to say I heard a very breakdown. I don't
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: want to speak to that over myself. But I had
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: about three days when I was here. I couldn't think
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: de straight. I was crying. I was just like, what's
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: going on? So I had about a three day meltdown. Um.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: And after all three days, I got myself together and
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: I was like, hey, you know my bus and books
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: go on, you know, I see after about my business. Um.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: So basically we went heavy heavy or retail. We're just
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: doing really really heavy on retail of you know, we
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: started feeling hand center tide and we started seeing bad
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: we were selling at home, you know, facial kids. We
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: just went really really heavy on education, really really heavy
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: on the retail. Even people who were never really on
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: Antima and Facebook and all these platforms before you know,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: they flooded to those platforms because you know, it's it's
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: an audience there. Um. And we just went crazy heavy
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: on education. UM. And of course we took a lot
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: of classes, you know, loose center taking classes and you know,
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: let our clients know, treat your clients in recent clivors.
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: I don't know, Hey, we are making sure we start
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: taking the intra procoy for whenever we do open back up, UM,
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: to make sure your safety is a priority. And of
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: course you know our safety as well. So I did
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: a full class for my stotball trial. I own a
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: large Ampacan Americans by proficial community in the world. I
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: did a whole toil still class for everybody to show
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: them what to do during the pandemic and what to
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: do ACTI the pandemic. And I am so honored that
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: so many people are still in business right now to
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: this day, UM, and we are surviving this pangagemic. So

- 1:57:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, ra Sean McDonald. So, so first of all,
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: this is what I love about you, so Richan, My
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: business is basically touching people. So I pivoted. I had
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: to pivot, and so and doing that the mask, you know,
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: which is a visionary move. The hand sanitizers, which is
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: another visionary move because guess what, COVID nineteen is not
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: going anywhere. It's not so mask is going to be
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: part of our life, our lives, even if they get
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: a virus vaccine, it's still gonna be where I'm still
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: gonna go wearing a mask. I'm sorry. And so because
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: that because I am an African American, I am naming
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: four percent of people who died from COVID nineteen or
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: people who've already had preixtin illnesses. So that lets you
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: know that you know when you're you're certain age group,
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: or you're an asthmatic or high blood pressure or stuff
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Aurey's cloud daughters you or cancer, there's a lot of
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: illnesses that sickle sale that it allowed you to understand
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: that we have to be aware of what's going on.
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: And so, like I said, you overcame that. Now what
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: snapped you out of that? That little three day funk?
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna call the a three day funk, you know
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: when you felt sorry for yourself. I ain't gonna call
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: a nervous break there, because we all have those moments. Candice,
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: you know where everything's going good and and you and
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: you and you know you you got ready for you
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: wasn't ready for. You know, here's like you saw a
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: common canvas, but you didn't want to playing for because
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: it was too much thought into it. And that's what
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: that's the part that you slapped yourself on the back.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Go snap by this, stupid you can do this. I
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: actually what's snapped me out of it? Um As? I'll
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: beat him on on Instagram? And she was, you know,
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: heavily marketing her lifty and heavily marketing her book, you know,
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: and she showed up every day showing people, be telling
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: people about the book. You know, do tell me any
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: people aout the Lifty? And I just thought to myself,
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: you know, I gotta continue to run my business no
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: better what um so me just seen her those three
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: days to continues to show up. That gat me out
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: my phone and I was like, I have to run
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: my bus, and so you know, I just changed my
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: whole mindset. I took the time and say, hey, you know,
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: what can I see an offer? How can I see
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: a bit of value? Um and all of the things
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: that I can't really was a mask the hand sannarchize.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: I came up with those things and turning back to
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: the marketplace like nothing hadn't happened before, we would walk
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: into handsenersize and face. We know the thing about it.
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: You know, I've seen every photo I've seen them. You're smiling,
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: You're looking like you're enjoying life. So to tell me
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: I really got you know, it really traumatized me when
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: this COVID thing popped up. I just don't imagine. I
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: can't imagine your smile. Where did your smile? I go?
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: What did that energy going? I'm telling I lost two
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: hundred tho dollars um. I used to do China trips
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: before COVID, so I would take people who are building
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: aside who China know to get direct vendor to you know,
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: having a spot. It's expensive startup, so I used to
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: take stock professionals to China to meet the vendors. We
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: had a really big trip planed. I lost two hundred
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: thousand dollars in at three APO. There's another reason I
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: was on the phone. I also owned a team with
- 2:00:15Speaker 1: a truck and company. UM one of my trucks that
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: broke down. There was like another fourth thound of dollars week,
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: so there was like a two uns four you know.
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: It was a big loss of the three A. So
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: I was just in a funk. And then the COVID
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: was here in the Pelican, United States, and it was
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: just like anything would just hit me at one time,
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: and I just had to give myself together over the
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: three days. Okay, cool, the black Spot magazine, let's go
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: back to because we kind of got it, kind of
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: got started on convincing black people it's all right there,
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: lay down and be touched and woke up and feel good. Now,
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: how did you do it? How? I don't see him?
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: When did you find these black people? Kanvas? I've never
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: seen I've don't this. I've been on cruise ships. I
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: have not seen black people show. I've never went in
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: the spa and another black person was sitting in that way.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: Why did you find out they found me um. I
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: was hearing there's a thing too. When I moved to Atlanta,
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: you know, I targeted influences. I targeted you know, feel
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: every people. So you know if they shout you out,
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: you know the flood gates are going to open. So
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: that was one of my marketing strike. So all of
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: these people found to me um via Instagram in Facebook
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: with the youth of good hashtag good. Now, with that
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: being said, what is a good massage? Because I like
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: I'm telling I had that deep tissue massage love and
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: mercy that is so painful. I've made that mistake twice
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: in my life. I thought I a man up and
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: go through that. No, no, no, no no, that deep
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: tissue got something working on your job. So what is
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: what is a softy like me a whimp? Did you
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: want to lay down and do a good massage? Wake
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: up feeling good? You know I'm out of shape, so
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: I'm not. You're not gonna worry about no hamstring pools
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: or anything like that, or any muscles that it's gonna
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: fly out or my arm ain't gonna just fly back
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: and just slap you because you you touch of really
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: muscular moment in my arms. What's a good massage that Kansas.
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: So when it comes to a good massade, it's really
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: not a good massade. It's a good therapist. It's a
- 2:02:27Speaker 1: good because a good massage therapist, like whoever he's doing
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: your massage, they need to be deal. So if you
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: come to me and I do the proper consultation and
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: you're telling me, hey, I had it, and even if
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: you had a depiction massade and you hated it, your
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: therapist should have asked you, hey, it's pressure. Okay, So
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: if you're in pain, you can ease up. You know
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: what you want. But I tell I tell most people, um,
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: you can get a relaxation massage, but you get it
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: with trigger points. So I definitely, I'm definitely going to
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: relax you. But less you say your can been hurt
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: before your show to have been hurt, I'm gonna put
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: a little bit more empetus on those points and how
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: to trigger point um to relieve the pain for you.
- 2:03:06Speaker 1: That the majority of the masthod is going to be relaxation,
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: So I am not hurting you. So you gotta make
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: sure you let your therapies know exactly what you want
- 2:03:14Speaker 1: in any time throwing the pasage. Anybody who listens to you,
- 2:03:17Speaker 1: if you are in pain, make sure you let your
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: death is know because they will keep on going a
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: oh my good oh my goodness. I'm would tell you something.
- 2:03:27Speaker 1: I made that mistake. I will not do a deep tissue.
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: I've tried it. I thought that was I don't know
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: what was running through my mind. Well, you know, and
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: but first of all, wants the pain hits you, the
- 2:03:38Speaker 1: spark experiences over with far as I'm concerned, so exactly,
- 2:03:42Speaker 1: you know, you know, because like you said, it's therapy,
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: you know, if you're supposed to relax. And so that's
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: like somebody throwing cold water on you in bed. You're
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: not gonna go back to sleep. I don't care if
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: you try. You're not gonna go back to sleep. You're
- 2:03:54Speaker 1: gonna be mad, You're gonna be thinking about it. Is
- 2:03:55Speaker 1: this person gonna hurt me again? Or this person gonna
- 2:03:58Speaker 1: throw more cold water on me? They'll do they standing
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: over there, smiling, They won't won't join you in baid
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: go to sleep. So same thing when a person who
- 2:04:05Speaker 1: is a massage and me, they might ease up, but
- 2:04:07Speaker 1: all they're gonna hit me again. Maybe they don't listen
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: real well. That happened to me twice, So that's the
- 2:04:13Speaker 1: deep teaching massage. On the other hand, I've learned the
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: type of massagees that have worked for me, and I've
- 2:04:18Speaker 1: been very happy experiencing the massage is now now as
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: you what is the worst customer for you to come
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: in there? A gruffy person, a person who is impatient person? Uh?
- 2:04:31Speaker 1: What is the worst type of person to give him
- 2:04:33Speaker 1: massage to? Um? The worst person who were part of
- 2:04:38Speaker 1: the people who weren't happy ending. That's the worst person.
- 2:04:41Speaker 1: I myself, I tried myself on being um professional. So
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: you know, for for us as a woman, UM, you
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: know that's our works, not even there to get a client.
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: You know who's doing want those type of things. You
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: know they don't want to cover on them. You know
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: they want to be fully um they want us to
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: You got worried by me. You have to tell me
- 2:05:03Speaker 1: to take closes? You can you take your clothes off? Sorry?
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: Can I just lower my my my underwear to the
- 2:05:09Speaker 1: top of my button? I just can't do that. The
- 2:05:12Speaker 1: whole new thing. I'm sorry, I ken't you'd be like rash. Look, huh,
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: I got horror stories. I have horror over and I'm
- 2:05:23Speaker 1: telling you I'm because of what you think that other
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: people over my seven year UM. You know career as
- 2:05:30Speaker 1: a massage therapy. So there's a lot of stories with
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: that's that's the word client to get those Hi, client,
- 2:05:36Speaker 1: do you know put us an awkward situation? Absolutely, and
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: you have to he ain't love money here. We won't
- 2:05:41Speaker 1: talk a moment. We have survived this moment. So now
- 2:05:44Speaker 1: let's talk about the second annual SPA Expot. What exactly
- 2:05:49Speaker 1: is a SPA expot? Oh my god, So the Spot
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: expo is so Here, India. To my heart, I know,
- 2:05:56Speaker 1: I'm get found it. So Deus over Here Despot is
- 2:06:00Speaker 1: the only black Spot explot in the world. It used
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: to be a two day event, but of course it's
- 2:06:04Speaker 1: COVID so it's only a one day event. This year.
- 2:06:07Speaker 1: We also have an online option. We have over thirty
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: yet speakers, UM and it's it's another expo in the world,
- 2:06:14Speaker 1: but of course it's not you know, created by black
- 2:06:17Speaker 1: people is not necessarily tired for us. So if the
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: explo is different things going on UM at different times.
- 2:06:23Speaker 1: So Spot proficients income, they can take UM refresh of course.
- 2:06:27Speaker 1: It so like if somebody is a massage there, they
- 2:06:30Speaker 1: can go towards a new class. The line had to
- 2:06:32Speaker 1: better be a massage stairs just on the skill set level. UM.
- 2:06:35Speaker 1: Then we have growth building classes. Hey, you know about
- 2:06:38Speaker 1: their life insurance, you know about UM finances? Do you
- 2:06:42Speaker 1: know about passive income? And then we also heavy heavy
- 2:06:45Speaker 1: focus on marketing because I feel like everybody needs to
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: know how to market your beunything so you can get customers.
- 2:06:52Speaker 1: So it's a lot going on at one time, but
- 2:06:55Speaker 1: it's so amazing and beauty last year into the same
- 2:06:58Speaker 1: thing we're gonna do with So I am so honor
- 2:07:01Speaker 1: and exciting for the spot for it's for all black
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: spot being health and wellness professionals. UM, it's made by us,
- 2:07:09Speaker 1: is just for us, and it's from our vantage point.
- 2:07:12Speaker 1: So we really can't understand how to want our businesses.
- 2:07:15Speaker 1: It's not just about going to school. West have to
- 2:07:17Speaker 1: be massage or facial. We need to know the business
- 2:07:20Speaker 1: part and that's not being put enough. So we're heavily
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: focusing on how to want the bees and out of school,
- 2:07:26Speaker 1: how to scale the bus and pretty you know, a
- 2:07:28Speaker 1: three hundred five hundred million dollars business from heavy heavily
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: dedicating on that that's the only black exposed in the world. Girl,
- 2:07:41Speaker 1: you're doing it now. Let's you know the thing about
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: that I like about you first of all your personality.
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: You know it's even kill even though you tell me Roshan,
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: I've been put in a situation I just could not
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: believe in a just so frustrated and mad when people
- 2:07:55Speaker 1: compromise and tegives you of my business and look at
- 2:07:57Speaker 1: me not as a business person but as a object.
- 2:08:01Speaker 1: And you have to deal with that because you're just
- 2:08:03Speaker 1: trying to be an entrepreneur and you're trying to be
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: an entrepreneur in a business that that that that that
- 2:08:09Speaker 1: people will tell you there's no market for, and that's
- 2:08:12Speaker 1: been in the black small business. Now, when did you
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: feel that this could work? You said, you know something,
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: because we only have those little moments we go I
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: think I'm owning something. What is that I think I'm
- 2:08:23Speaker 1: owning something? Moment hit you? Um, that was when I
- 2:08:28Speaker 1: got on Goopon. I am a black Spot owner for
- 2:08:30Speaker 1: Missilcy and I got one Goopon. When I first reached
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: out to Boupan, they told me that they couldn't help me.
- 2:08:36Speaker 1: It was nothing for me. I was about okay um.
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: And months later they end up calling me back saying, hey,
- 2:08:42Speaker 1: we have an opening. We want to feed you you um.
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: And I got a groupon because I was just like
- 2:08:47Speaker 1: you know, small time and at the time, and I
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: got on there and I want to say, I'm a
- 2:08:52Speaker 1: like six thousand dollars in two days. It was my
- 2:08:55Speaker 1: first time making it type of money. They had you
- 2:08:57Speaker 1: back in like maybe three dollanon, leaving a two thousand
- 2:09:00Speaker 1: and toy yo um. And that's when it hit media like, hey,
- 2:09:04Speaker 1: I'm onto something and I made it six thousand in
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: two days. That that's what it was. You're rubbing on
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: some people looking through days when your hands are working,
- 2:09:13Speaker 1: you're doing like what twelve hour shifts you you had
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: them and what groupon sales? The gift card to your
- 2:09:21Speaker 1: spot so they they pay you before you ever do
- 2:09:23Speaker 1: the third girl. So you was getting that money that
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: that that that they say mailbox money. You weren't even
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: working for that money yet, not even well now you
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: know have training the roads at that then. Um, anything
- 2:09:39Speaker 1: you sold in a four day one day, you got
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: a from our present of the upfront. So like My
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: first shift they ever made me was like six thousand
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: dollars um and that's when I was like, okay, I'm
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: going into something here. That was my eye opening when
- 2:09:54Speaker 1: I got a groupon. That's that's that's impressive. So so
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: can you give us a date on the news letter
- 2:10:00Speaker 1: going out this wind stay. I'd like to feature your
- 2:10:04Speaker 1: SPA Black Spa and second annual in there. Can you
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: send me some banners, some links so we can get
- 2:10:11Speaker 1: the world. I I'm not saying, you know you gotta
- 2:10:13Speaker 1: be You've been successful without Rashan McDonald's money making conversation.
- 2:10:17Speaker 1: I'm saying, but that's why I built the franchise, because
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: I want to take entrepreneurs like you and realize that
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: you have a place. If you have something you want
- 2:10:25Speaker 1: to promote, just come to Rashan. Just come to h
- 2:10:29Speaker 1: for free. Now. I'm not I'm gonna charge people for
- 2:10:32Speaker 1: this because I got the blessing. My blessing is I'm
- 2:10:34Speaker 1: talking to you. My blessing is that I wake up
- 2:10:36Speaker 1: every day to have a conversation and realize that I
- 2:10:38Speaker 1: can make a difference in this world. And when I
- 2:10:40Speaker 1: talk to the individual like you who have who are
- 2:10:44Speaker 1: who is redefining the game. Because, yeah, I've been in
- 2:10:47Speaker 1: this business with Steve Harvey. We did a lot of
- 2:10:50Speaker 1: things together on radio, and the one thing that always
- 2:10:52Speaker 1: frustrated frustrated me was the perception of black people of
- 2:10:57Speaker 1: what people think of us, you know, and it plays
- 2:11:00Speaker 1: yeah in the social and the civil unrest that we
- 2:11:03Speaker 1: have out there, but they don't see us in technology.
- 2:11:07Speaker 1: You know, we get no respect there. We get no
- 2:11:09Speaker 1: respect in the sciences. You know, we get no you know,
- 2:11:13Speaker 1: they feel that we're you know, on the average, they're
- 2:11:15Speaker 1: good black people and they're bad black people. You know
- 2:11:18Speaker 1: that perception. And then when you tell me about the
- 2:11:20Speaker 1: spot industry, I joke and I said, and I'm telling
- 2:11:24Speaker 1: the absolute truth. But then if nobody tries and makes
- 2:11:27Speaker 1: an attempt to create that market and has a value
- 2:11:31Speaker 1: proposition that the market says we want to be a
- 2:11:33Speaker 1: part of, then it cannot happen. And you've done that. Congratulations.
- 2:11:37Speaker 1: I really wanted to say that as part of my
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: intro to you and telling you that, hey, you are
- 2:11:43Speaker 1: a winner and keep winning because of the fact that
- 2:11:46Speaker 1: you're doing something that was that people say. You said, Richard,
- 2:11:50Speaker 1: I was a waitress with thirteen years Okay, I just
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: got tirer knowing that on Thanksgiving them gona get this.
- 2:11:55Speaker 1: On New Year's even I'm gonna get this Valentine's they
- 2:11:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna get this, uh Easter weekend, get there. I
- 2:12:02Speaker 1: know the dates. I know him, I know him. But
- 2:12:06Speaker 1: you know, if if I know that, then guess what
- 2:12:09Speaker 1: you know? You know then you know it too, and
- 2:12:11Speaker 1: you realize that you know. So this is about it.
- 2:12:14Speaker 1: This is the top of the mountain for me. I'm
- 2:12:16Speaker 1: gonna go bet on myself. And you have bet on yourself,
- 2:12:18Speaker 1: and you're about to enter into your second and you
