House Oversight Democrats Spark Outrage w Roll Out of ICE Monitoring Tool · The Ben Ferguson Podcast

Speaker 1: I think it's fair to say the Democrats, and I'm
• 0:03
Speaker 1: talking about those that are elected, are officially as unhinged
• 0:08
Speaker 1: as the radical extremists in their party, those that are
• 0:12
Speaker 1: out there that are unhinged fighting against ice agents for example.
• 0:17
Speaker 1: Why would I say that, Well, let's just look at
• 0:19
Speaker 1: the list of unhinged things Democrats have been doing. You know,
• 0:22
Speaker 1: just over the last couple of weeks, they shut down
• 0:24
Speaker 1: the government, leaving federal workers unpaid, to then demand free
• 0:30
Speaker 1: health care to illegal immigrants, and now they've decided to
• 0:35
Speaker 1: become even more unhinged. Democratic congress people gathering together with
• 0:42
Speaker 1: local leaders in Los Angeles, and what do they say
• 0:46
Speaker 1: they're doing now, Well, this is what they're doing about
• 0:50
Speaker 1: ice agents being in LA.
• 0:53
Speaker 2: I share this with the mayor.
• 0:54
Speaker 3: Over the course of the next couple of weeks, the
• 0:56
Speaker 3: Oversight Committee will be launching on their website a mass
• 1:00
Speaker 3: sure ice tracker where we can We're going to be
• 1:04
Speaker 3: essentially tracking every single instance that we can verify thats
• 1:08
Speaker 3: the community will send, you will send us information.
• 1:10
  Speaker 4: On that is.
• 1:11
Speaker 1: Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House
• 1:16
Speaker 1: Oversight Committee, just announced that the committee's Democrats are creating
• 1:22
Speaker 1: with your tax dours a master ICE tracker and they
• 1:26
Speaker 1: will be placing it on their website to docks ICE agents.
• 1:32
Speaker 1: Now you have to ask yourself this question, how dangerous
• 1:36
Speaker 1: is this? All right, well, let me just give you
• 1:39
Speaker 1: a documented timeline of notable and I want to be clear,
• 1:43
Speaker 1: this is not all of them. This is just some
• 1:44
Speaker 1: of the notable instances where ICE agents and offices have
• 1:48
Speaker 1: been attacked ICE personnel or docks their personal info posts online.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: Explicit threats were made towards agents as well, in several
• 1:57
Speaker 1: cases even their families. And it is not literally every
• 2:01
Speaker 1: single case nationwide. But what it does is I'm giving
• 2:05
Speaker 1: you a example, a snapshot of just what ICE agents
• 2:10
  Speaker 1: are dealing with.
• 2:11
Speaker 4: In fact, I'm going to go back all.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: The way to June of twenty eighteen, the Department of
• 2:16
Speaker 1: Homeland Security put out an alert about threats to employees
• 2:21
Speaker 1: amid the family separation furor that was going on by
• 2:25
Speaker 1: the Democrats there claims that these families were getting separated.
• 2:29
Speaker 1: It was actually a policy that was put into place
• 2:32
Speaker 1: by Barack Obama. No one was outraged then, by the way,
• 2:36
Speaker 1: the Department of Owned Security war in its workforce of
• 2:39
Speaker 1: a quote heightened threat environment targeting homeland security personnel, which
• 2:45
Speaker 1: includes ICE agents that coming from CBS News. Fast forward
• 2:49
Speaker 1: to June nineteenth to the twenty second of that month,
• 2:54
Speaker 1: mass docsing of ICE employees online.
• 2:57
Speaker 4: Again. This is back in twenty eighteen.
• 3:00
Speaker 1: The New York based artist scraped the work site LinkedIn
• 3:04
Speaker 1: to compile and publish a data set of one thousand,
• 3:09
Speaker 1: six hundred plus people who had listed ICE as their employer. Medium,
• 3:16
Speaker 1: GitHub and Twitter remove the posts for violating anti doxing rules.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: The list, with names, photos and titles was widely circulated,
• 3:26
Speaker 1: including via an Antifa channel, and that's when the threats
• 3:30
Speaker 1: got real against sixteen one hundred plus ICE employees. In
• 3:35
Speaker 1: June of the same month, Occupy Ice protests surrounded ICE facilities.
• 3:42
  Speaker 4: Again.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: This is back in twenty eighteen. In Portland, Oregon and elsewhere.
• 3:47
Speaker 1: There were sustained blockades at the Portland ICE building that
• 3:50
Speaker 1: prompted repeat law enforcement responses and major safety concerns. While
• 3:55
Speaker 1: much of the activity was quote protests, officers documented heraunds,
• 4:00
Speaker 1: thrown objects, and vandalisms around their workplace. You go to
• 4:05
Speaker 1: the very next year, July thirteenth of twenty nineteen.
• 4:09
Speaker 4: Remember we're in twenty twenty five.
• 4:10
Speaker 1: Right now, this is how long the harassment has been
• 4:13
Speaker 1: building and the doxing of ICE agents by the left.
• 4:17
Speaker 1: You had an actual firebomb attack on ICE Attention Center Intocoma, Washington.
• 4:23
Speaker 1: An armed attacker through insidiary devices and tried to ignite
• 4:28
Speaker 1: a propane tank at the Northwest Attention Center. Police were
• 4:32
Speaker 1: forced to shoot him. No officers in that attack were
• 4:36
Speaker 1: actually injured. In August, a month later in twenty nineteen,
• 4:40
Speaker 1: you had shots fired into ICE offices in San Antonio, Texas.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: Multiple rounds were fired into ICE office windows. The FBI
• 4:50
Speaker 1: called it a targeted attack on federal employees.
• 4:55
Speaker 4: Thank goodness, no injuries were reported.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: Then in June through septeb of twenty twenty five, so
• 5:02
Speaker 1: you can move forward basically five and a half years,
• 5:05
Speaker 1: masking policy debates were then tied to doxing threats. Following
• 5:10
Speaker 1: a rise in doxing and harassment, more ICE teams conducted
• 5:14
Speaker 1: operations wearing masks wine because they were trying to protect
• 5:18
Speaker 1: their identity from this type of harassment and not just harassment,
• 5:22
Speaker 1: putting their lives at risk. The worst part was in
• 5:26
Speaker 1: the reporting is liberals acted as if it was okay
• 5:29
Speaker 1: to docks and advocated for it, saying these individuals were
• 5:32
Speaker 1: acting like they were Nazis, the Gestapo, and they deserved
• 5:36
Speaker 1: what they got. You then go to June and July
• 5:40
Speaker 1: of this year in Portland, Oregon, at an ICE facility,
• 5:44
Speaker 1: you had vandalism, threats made and doxing reports as well.
• 5:48
Speaker 1: Local police and DHS public statements described the arrests for vandalism,
• 5:53
Speaker 1: including death threats, graffiti outside the building, and efforts to
• 5:57
Speaker 1: publish the ice officers personal infameo. One officer even reported
• 6:02
Speaker 1: threatening trash dumped on their lawn with his children at home.
• 6:07
Speaker 1: In September of this year, you then had in Dallas, Texas,
• 6:11
Speaker 1: the ICE facility that was ambushed, attacked on transport vans
• 6:16
  Speaker 1: and buildings.
• 6:17
Speaker 4: The FBI and the Dallas.
• 6:20
Speaker 1: Area authorities say the gunman, Joshua John, carried out a
• 6:24
Speaker 1: planned ambush style attack aimed specifically at killing ICE agents.
• 6:30
Speaker 1: Shots actually struck the transport vehicles and office windows. Federal
• 6:35
Speaker 1: briefings em beside the attacker's explicit anti ICE intent. In
• 6:40
Speaker 1: September this year as well, Dallas case details also came out,
• 6:45
Speaker 1: and the AP reported the same week describing a rooftop
• 6:49
Speaker 1: shooter targeting an ICE Dallas site, noting a detainee was
• 6:54
Speaker 1: killed and others injured. Investigator said he intended to terrorize ICE.
• 6:59
Speaker 1: This compliment the FBI's accounts and motive of targeting in September.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: Later that month, the twenty sixth through the twenty ninth,
• 7:07
Speaker 1: there was a federal indictment for doxing of ICE agents.
• 7:10
Speaker 4: In Los Angeles, California.
• 7:12
Speaker 1: A federal grand jury was forced to charge three radical
• 7:17
Speaker 1: activists of the left who allegedly followed an ICE agent
• 7:21
Speaker 1: from work to home, live streamed him, and posted his
• 7:25
Speaker 1: home address while urging others to come to the location.
• 7:29
Speaker 1: The DOJ and the PBS slash ap coverage underscored the
• 7:35
Speaker 1: risk to the agent and his family, And then you
• 7:38
Speaker 1: look at the arrests urging swatting of an ICE attorney.
• 7:43
Speaker 1: This happening in September of this year. ICE reported the
• 7:47
Speaker 1: arrest of a California man who's accused of posting an
• 7:51
Speaker 1: ICE attorney's home address and encouraging others to quote swat her,
• 7:56
Speaker 1: an attack tactic that explicitly endangers the attorney in the
• 8:00
Speaker 1: family members and terrorizes them at their home.
• 8:03
  Speaker 4: Residents.
• 8:04
Speaker 1: The scary part is this isn't all that has happened
• 8:07
Speaker 1: to our ICE agents while Democrats are upping the Anne
• 8:11
Speaker 1: and now saying they want to launch a master ICE
• 8:14
Speaker 1: tracking site. Now, as I mentioned a moment ago, these
• 8:19
Speaker 1: are just some of the horrific attacks and events that
• 8:23
Speaker 1: have been happening since twenty eighteen against ICE agents because
• 8:29
Speaker 1: of the radical Left. You go to October of this year,
• 8:33
Speaker 1: the Department of Homeland Security had to issue public warnings
• 8:38
Speaker 1: on dosing and assaults against ICE and other Department of
• 8:42
Speaker 1: Homeland Security personnel. The number of attacks on ICE agents
• 8:46
Speaker 1: have gone up more than a thousand percent because of
• 8:50
Speaker 1: the Left implying that it is justifiable to attack, beat,
• 8:56
Speaker 1: or even murder ICE agents. The Department of Homeland Security
• 9:00
Speaker 1: he was forced to issue statements not only condemning the
• 9:03
Speaker 1: massive surgeon dangerous boxing, but also stalking and family targeted
• 9:09
Speaker 1: harassment of ICE and Border Patrol agents. They were even
• 9:13
Speaker 1: going after their children, including newborns. All of this highlights
• 9:19
Speaker 1: exactly what is happening now because of the radical Left,
• 9:23
Speaker 1: whether it's live streaming and following the agents, threats against
• 9:27
Speaker 1: their families, putting their addresses up there, going after them.
• 9:31
Speaker 4: But even if you bring this up.
• 9:33
Speaker 1: What's even more shocking is how the left is fighting
• 9:37
Speaker 1: back on it. I was on CNN just the other
• 9:40
Speaker 1: day and meta known as Facebook removed a page tracking
• 9:44
Speaker 1: ICE movements amid DOJ pressure, and they lost their ever
• 9:49
Speaker 1: loving minds on CNN when I talked about just how
• 9:53
Speaker 1: dangerous these pages are, and they were implying that they
• 9:56
Speaker 1: needed to stay up. I want you to listen to
• 9:59
Speaker 1: the liberal panel at CNN coming after me for demanding
• 10:03
Speaker 1: the ICE agents be protected. If there's a police officer
• 10:09
Speaker 1: or an ICE agent whose picture is put up in
• 10:11
Speaker 1: a group chat on Facebook that is about ICE and
• 10:14
Speaker 1: it says, let's expose this person.
• 10:17
Speaker 4: Somebody tell me who he is, where he lives.
• 10:19
Speaker 5: Okay, I'm gonna be real with you.
• 10:21
  Speaker 4: I think that's not docs.
• 10:22
Speaker 1: It's definitely you don't think that that's the.
• 10:24
Speaker 5: Dosing is when you actually pay somebody's personal identifiable information
• 10:28
Speaker 5: p i I, which is an email phone number, or
• 10:31
Speaker 5: I'm not saying that what you're saying.
• 10:32
  Speaker 4: Isn't that I'm saying it's dangerous.
• 10:34
  Speaker 5: I'm not saying it doesn't.
• 10:35
  Speaker 4: It's not.
• 10:36
Speaker 5: When it comes to these policies.
• 10:43
Speaker 6: Is not up to you, and not to mention that
• 10:45
Speaker 6: was not a subjective definition.
• 10:47
Speaker 4: If somebody and that's why I'm defending it. This is wrong.
• 10:53
Speaker 6: And just one second, and just give me one second. Okay.
• 10:57
Speaker 6: I have been doxed, I have had my personal identifying
• 11:01
Speaker 6: information put on the internet. I've had my family's address.
• 11:05
Speaker 6: They don't they don't work here at CNN. I put
• 11:07
Speaker 6: on the internet. That is not a crime. It's not
• 11:10
Speaker 6: a crime. And I'm asking you if you want the
• 11:14
Speaker 6: government to be in a position where anytime that somebody
• 11:17
Speaker 6: posts a picture, an address, public information, by the way
• 11:21
Speaker 6: of people who are in law enforcement positions, they that
• 11:25
Speaker 6: that information gets taken down. That's really the standard that
• 11:29
Speaker 6: you want to set.
• 11:29
Speaker 1: I will say this, if there was a page on
• 11:31
Speaker 1: Facebook tonight that decided to put out all of our
• 11:34
Speaker 1: family's information and let's go after these people in media
• 11:37
Speaker 1: in a clear way of a threat to any of
• 11:39
Speaker 1: our lives, I would.
• 11:40
Speaker 4: Say that I would be taken I don't think that makes.
• 11:44
Speaker 6: Me think that from a normative perspective. From a normative perspective,
• 11:49
Speaker 6: sure we would all want that taken down. But the
• 11:52
Speaker 6: question is what should the government be doing. And I
• 11:54
Speaker 6: think that you've taken a stand against the government being
• 11:57
Speaker 6: involved in taking down COVID misinformation or what you I
• 12:00
Speaker 6: just it was outrage.
• 12:02
Speaker 4: Then was going on, you're covering it.
• 12:06
Speaker 6: There's a fun I don't understand how you can do that.
• 12:09
Speaker 1: You condemn it was Meta and Google that he was pressuring,
• 12:16
Speaker 1: and we were definitely.
• 12:19
Speaker 6: Let me just answer your question, Kristen, and then we
• 12:21
Speaker 6: have to go to answer your question. I'll read again.
• 12:23
Speaker 6: This is Pam Bondi's tweet. She says, following outreach from
• 12:27
  Speaker 6: the Justice Department.
• 12:28
Speaker 1: You listen to all that and it's very clear that
• 12:31
Speaker 1: the left has no problem harassing and doxing ICE agents.
• 12:36
Speaker 4: And by the way, now.
• 12:37
Speaker 1: It has become the official line of the Democratic Party.
• 12:44
Speaker 1: The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia,
• 12:48
Speaker 1: in his own words, telling you that your tax hours
• 12:52
Speaker 1: will be used to have an ICE tracker to track
• 12:56
Speaker 1: and dox these agents.
• 12:59
Speaker 3: Couple of weeks, the Oversight Committee will be launching on
• 13:02
Speaker 3: their website a master ICE tracker where we can We're
• 13:07
Speaker 3: going to be essentially tracking every single instance that we
• 13:10
Speaker 3: can verify that the community will send you able to
• 13:13
Speaker 3: send us information on.
• 13:14
Speaker 1: Now, let's just talk about why they want to do this.
• 13:18
Speaker 1: What would be the logic behind having a ICE tracker
• 13:22
Speaker 1: officially put together by the Democratic Party. Number one, I
• 13:27
Speaker 1: think it's because they want to put a very clear
• 13:30
Speaker 1: target on the federal agents. They want them to be
• 13:34
Speaker 1: terrified of actually doing their job. The other thing is
• 13:40
Speaker 1: they want to endanger their lives. And if there are
• 13:44
Speaker 1: other ICE agents that are targeted or shot or murdered,
• 13:49
Speaker 1: I think they believe that will help keep more illegal
• 13:52
Speaker 1: immigrants in this country. I think there's no doubt about that.
• 13:58
Speaker 1: This is not only putting a clear target on the
• 14:00
Speaker 1: federal agents, but it is endangering their lives. It is
• 14:04
Speaker 1: also an obstruction of justice, which is the other part
• 14:09
Speaker 1: of this what Democrats have been advocating for with the
• 14:13
Speaker 1: open borders. The entire policy of the Democratic Party is
• 14:18
Speaker 1: they want to get around American laws, and now as
• 14:22
Speaker 1: laws are being enforced, they want to obstruct that justice
• 14:26
Speaker 1: by making it even harder, if not almost impossible. That
• 14:31
Speaker 1: is their goal here, for Republicans to be able to
• 14:36
Speaker 1: use the law enforcement to enforce law and order in America. Remember,
• 14:43
Speaker 1: Donald Trump isn't passing new laws on immigration, He's just
• 14:48
Speaker 1: enforcing the laws that are already on the books. And
• 14:52
Speaker 1: what Democrats have decided is we don't have to abide
• 14:56
Speaker 1: by the laws of the land. We can decide when
• 15:00
Speaker 1: we want to use laws and when we want to
• 15:02
Speaker 1: break them, when we want to look the other way.
• 15:05
Speaker 4: Look no further than that moment.
• 15:08
Speaker 1: And I want you to think about the Democratic Party
• 15:11
Speaker 1: where they attacked a man that was on a horse
• 15:15
Speaker 1: they then claimed was whipping an illegal immigrant. Now, the
• 15:19
Speaker 1: picture was a picture that was taken where you couldn't
• 15:22
Speaker 1: see the context of them actually using the reins of
• 15:26
Speaker 1: a horse to move the horse. There was other pictures
• 15:30
Speaker 1: that came out that reinforced this. But did Democrats apologize. Know,
• 15:35
Speaker 1: they wanted to demonize border patrol agents that were on horseback.
• 15:40
Speaker 1: They wanted them to turn them into racists, and they
• 15:43
Speaker 1: wanted to put their lives at risk. This isn't just
• 15:47
Speaker 1: a pattern, This is now the playbook of the Democratic Party.
• 15:53
Speaker 1: Anybody they don't like, including presidents or former presidents or
• 15:58
Speaker 1: their staff members, they want to lock them up, They
• 16:01
Speaker 1: want to bankrupt them, they want to put them in jail,
• 16:04
Speaker 1: and if that doesn't work, they want them dead. Why
• 16:07
Speaker 1: do you think they keep referring to conservatives as Hitler's
• 16:10
Speaker 1: and Nazis? Why do you think they keep saying that
• 16:13
Speaker 1: we are fascists? Why do you think they keep having
• 16:16
Speaker 1: rallies that are paid for by democratic elites like the
• 16:19
  Speaker 1: No King's Day.
• 16:22
  Speaker 4: All of this.
• 16:23
Speaker 1: That I just described for you is well planned out,
• 16:26
Speaker 1: well paid for, and orchestrated by the radical left.
• 16:32
Speaker 4: So just know that.
• 16:33
Speaker 1: Your tax dollars now have now gone to create a
• 16:38
Speaker 1: master ICE tracker to track the movements of ICE agents,
• 16:44
Speaker 1: putting a target on their back, endangering their lives and
• 16:47
Speaker 1: their families' lives and the people that work with them
• 16:50
Speaker 1: at the ICE facilities. And it is clearly an obstruction
• 16:55
  Speaker 1: of justice.
• 16:57
Speaker 4: Did you see that.
• 16:58
Speaker 1: Gold just hit an all time new high of over
• 17:01
Speaker 1: four thousand dollars an ounce? And if you hear that
• 17:05
Speaker 1: and you're like, are you kidding me? And you're thinking, gosh,
• 17:08
Speaker 1: I missed my opportunity. Well, I don't know if you
• 17:11
Speaker 1: missed your opportunity, But my friends at Kurt Elliott Precious
• 17:14
Speaker 1: Medals they can answer that question for you.
• 17:17
Speaker 4: You also may not.
• 17:18
Speaker 1: Be paying attention to the incredible gains with silver that
• 17:21
Speaker 1: are happening right now as well. And that's why I
• 17:25
Speaker 1: trust the guidance of the team at Kirk Elliott. In fact,
• 17:28
Speaker 1: I literally just got a hundred ounce bar of silver
• 17:32
Speaker 1: the other day. And the reason why is because after
• 17:35
Speaker 1: I talk to the team at kirk Elliott Precious Medals,
• 17:38
Speaker 1: they let me understand exactly where I could have a
• 17:41
Speaker 1: big upside in investing in silver. Now, the other part
• 17:45
Speaker 1: that I love about them is this they have transparent pricing.
• 17:49
Speaker 1: There are a lot of gold companies that you'll hear
• 17:51
Speaker 1: about if you listen to talk radio or podcasts or
• 17:54
Speaker 1: watch TV, but do they tell you how the pricing
• 17:58
Speaker 1: actually works well. At kirk Elliott, they're real simple, just
• 18:02
Speaker 1: eight percent when you buy and zero commissions when you sell,
• 18:07
Speaker 1: with no hidden fees. Ever, that is the other reason
• 18:10
Speaker 1: why I recommend them to all of you. They also
• 18:13
Speaker 1: don't sell you quote rare coins or precious coins that
• 18:16
Speaker 1: you pay insane markups on and then when you go
• 18:20
Speaker 1: to sell them you find out they're really not worth
• 18:22
Speaker 1: that much. They are a bullyon only approach. They focus
• 18:26
Speaker 1: on investment grade metals, no overpriced collectibles, no gimmicks that
• 18:32
Speaker 1: means you get more gold or silver for your money
• 18:35
Speaker 1: at fair value when it's time for you to sell.
• 18:38
Speaker 1: So if you're ready to find out if gold and
• 18:41
Speaker 1: silver is right for you and your portfolio, then call
• 18:45
Speaker 1: them and get a plan. You can visit them at

Speaker 1: It is very clear that President Donald Trump is a
• 19:16
Speaker 1: man who is on a mission to have peace through strength,
• 19:19
Speaker 1: where every cannon stops senseless wars. We've seen the deal
• 19:23
Speaker 1: that he's done in the Middle East, and we now
• 19:25
Speaker 1: know that he's turned towards what's happening in Russia and Ukraine. Well,
• 19:30
Speaker 1: there has been some late developments and the US has
• 19:34
Speaker 1: announced new sanctions the target Russia's two largest oil companies,
• 19:40
Speaker 1: Rosneff and Luke Oil, including many of their subsidiaries. These
• 19:46
Speaker 1: sanctions mark the first time in Trump's second term that
• 19:50
Speaker 1: his administration has placed new sanctions on Russia over the
• 19:54
Speaker 1: Ukraine War. So much for Russian collusion, as the media
• 19:58
Speaker 1: lied to you about for years. The US Treasury, through
• 20:03
Speaker 1: the Office of the Foreign Assets Control explicitly said the
• 20:07
Speaker 1: move is meant to degrade Russia's ability to fund its
• 20:11
Speaker 1: war machine and hurt its economy because if you know
• 20:15
Speaker 1: what's going on in Russia, you know they're barely staying
• 20:19
Speaker 1: alive economically because of the oil that they're selling. Now,
• 20:23
Speaker 1: the announcement came shortly after a planned meeting between Donald
• 20:27
Speaker 1: Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was canceled, signaling escalating
• 20:33
Speaker 1: frustration by the White House and Donald Trump. He meant
• 20:37
Speaker 1: it when he said it was time for peace. Now
• 20:40
Speaker 1: Here are the implications and the likely effects of what
• 20:43
Speaker 1: the President has just done. The economic pressure on Russia
• 20:47
Speaker 1: is real because Russia's war is costing them a lot
• 20:51
Speaker 1: of money, and by targeting Russia's biggest oil companies, the
• 20:55
Speaker 1: US is going after one of the major revenue resources
• 20:59
Speaker 1: that supports Russia's military and also is propping up its economy,
• 21:03
Speaker 1: which is teetering. This could force Russia to either lower
• 21:07
Speaker 1: the price of its oil, thus reducing revenue, or reduce
• 21:12
Speaker 1: production and exports. Both of those options hurt its financial
• 21:16
Speaker 1: stability and their ability to sustain large scale war for
• 21:21
Speaker 1: an extended period of time. Now, there is also pressure
• 21:25
Speaker 1: for diplomacy and a ceasefire. The Treasury Secretary's Scott Descent
• 21:30
Speaker 1: said the sanctions are meant to support peace efforts, saying quote,
• 21:35
Speaker 1: now is the time to stop the killing and for
• 21:38
Speaker 1: an immediate ceasefire. So the sanctions are being framed partly
• 21:42
Speaker 1: as a lever for diplomacy, not just punishment. Russia has
• 21:48
Speaker 1: deep trade and energy links with major buyers. This includes
• 21:53
Speaker 1: India and China, who is taking a significant amount of
• 21:56
Speaker 1: their oil that might not be fully impact by the
• 22:00
Speaker 1: US sanctions alone. Analysts say, we'll have to wait and see,
• 22:05
Speaker 1: but what we do know is the sanctions depend heavily
• 22:09
Speaker 1: on enforcement and also on US allies joining and coordinating
• 22:14
Speaker 1: in the sanctioned effort. If other big buyers continue business,
• 22:19
Speaker 1: the impact will be weaker than we need it to be,
• 22:22
Speaker 1: and there are possible global market side effects as well,
• 22:26
Speaker 1: spikes and all prices if russia supply is constrained. This
• 22:31
Speaker 1: is part of the reason why the President said we
• 22:32
Speaker 1: need to become energy independent, going back to Drill, Baby Drill.
• 22:37
Speaker 1: The fact that this is the first new sanction in
• 22:39
Speaker 1: Trump's second term also suggests there may have been internal
• 22:44
Speaker 1: or strategic hesitations earlier on to give a chance also
• 22:48
Speaker 1: for there to be real conversations that deal with peace.
• 22:52
Speaker 4: It remains to be.
• 22:53
Speaker 1: Seen if the pressure will persist or if Donald Trump
• 22:57
Speaker 1: plans on ratcheting up the pressure, which brings me to
• 23:01
Speaker 1: the announcement Center. Mullen on the new Russian sanction speaking
• 23:05
Speaker 1: with Jake Tapper on CNN, this is what he had
• 23:08
Speaker 1: to say about the new move.
• 23:10
Speaker 5: Do you think that there needs to be even harsher sanctions?
• 23:13
Speaker 5: And the reason I ask is because obviously August fifteenth,
• 23:17
Speaker 5: I believe it was, was the summit in Alaska where
• 23:21
Speaker 5: President Trump was hoping that Vladimir Putin would agree to
• 23:25
Speaker 5: any sort of ceasefire, and not only did he not
• 23:28
Speaker 5: get a cease fire, Putin since the US literally rolled
• 23:33
Speaker 5: out the carpet for him in the United States of
• 23:36
Speaker 5: America on American land, Putin has upped the tenor of
• 23:40
Speaker 5: the war. Some of the worst attacks on Ukraine have
• 23:43
Speaker 5: happened since then. And I'm wondering if President Trump you
• 23:47
Speaker 5: think needs to be even more aggressive.
• 23:50
Speaker 2: Well, this is step one. The President and Congress has
• 23:53
Speaker 2: talked multiple times what the next step might be. We
• 23:56
Speaker 2: have been in briefed or we have been in briefings,
• 23:58
Speaker 2: we've been in classified said this is literally the first
• 24:03
Speaker 2: step to put more pressure on Russia if we need to,
• 24:07
Speaker 2: I believe we probably will. I don't think Putin is
• 24:10
Speaker 2: someone is going to pay attention the first time his
• 24:12
Speaker 2: hand has slapped. I think you're going to see this
• 24:14
Speaker 2: get ratcheted up farther and farther to the point to
• 24:17
Speaker 2: where either we're going to bring them to their knees economically,
• 24:21
Speaker 2: or they're going to decide that fighting the Ukraine isn't
• 24:23
Speaker 2: worth it. At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised
• 24:26
Speaker 2: if you start seeing us give the accessibility to new
• 24:31
Speaker 2: weapons for Europe to buy for Ukraine to be able
• 24:34
Speaker 2: to fight against Russia and their aggression in Ukraine. As
• 24:38
Speaker 2: I said, Jake, this is just the first step. But
• 24:41
Speaker 2: this is the first step of a lot of options
• 24:43
Speaker 2: we have on the table.
• 24:45
Speaker 1: It's very clear, as you can hear there from Center
• 24:47
Speaker 1: Mullin that this is a new path forward. We tried
• 24:51
Speaker 1: to have well diplomacy work, and obviously Vladimir Putin is
• 24:55
Speaker 1: not working in that way. So as he described it,
• 24:57
Speaker 1: we can bring them to their knees economic or they
• 25:01
Speaker 1: can decide that fighting Ukraine isn't worth it. It's the
• 25:04
Speaker 1: first step of a lot of options we have on
• 25:08
Speaker 1: the table, and there also seems to be real unity
• 25:11
Speaker 1: behind this idea, as you know that senators are behind it.
• 25:14
Speaker 1: But what is the House side saying. Mike Johnson on
• 25:17
Speaker 1: the Russian sanctions. Here's what he had to say as well.
• 25:21
Speaker 2: Now, and thank you so much for being here, Speaker Johnson,
• 25:24
Speaker 2: because you had said before that you thought sanctions on
• 25:26
Speaker 2: Russia were long overdue.
• 25:28
Speaker 7: In your words, do you think that these moves tonight
• 25:30
  Speaker 7: go far enough.
• 25:32
Speaker 4: Well, it's a very important step.
• 25:33
Speaker 7: We applaud the president. He's returning peace through strength, and
• 25:37
Speaker 7: that's a common theme now that we've seen exhibited around
• 25:40
Speaker 7: the globe, the strength of his personality. You heard the
• 25:42
Speaker 7: UN Secretary General, who you caught earlier this afternoon, he said,
• 25:46
Speaker 7: in his own words, President Trump is the only figure
• 25:48
Speaker 7: on the planet strong enough to help bring an end
• 25:52
Speaker 7: of that war. And you have to compel Russia to
• 25:55
Speaker 7: engage in the peace process. They've shown they cannot be trusted.
• 25:58
Speaker 7: There's a big appetite in Congress to have sanctions like this,
• 26:01
Speaker 7: and I think it's a very important step.
• 26:03
Speaker 1: Yet again, you see unity between Republicans and the Senate
• 26:07
Speaker 1: Republicans in the House and the President of the United
• 26:10
Speaker 1: States of America, which brings us back to what Trump
• 26:13
Speaker 1: has now said about these new sanctions. Trump said of
• 26:17
Speaker 1: the sanctions, quote, it was time. He described the sanction
• 26:20
Speaker 1: on Russia's oil giants as very big and tremendous. During
• 26:25
Speaker 1: a meeting with the NATO Secretary General, he expressed that
• 26:29
Speaker 1: the meeting with Putin was canceled because it didn't feel
• 26:33
  Speaker 1: right to me.
• 26:34
Speaker 4: It didn't feel like we were going to get to
• 26:36
Speaker 4: the place we have to get.
• 26:39
Speaker 1: Earlier this year, Trump threatened tariffs and secondary sanctions if
• 26:44
Speaker 1: Russia did not agree to a cease fire. For example,
• 26:47
Speaker 1: he said he might impose a twenty five to fifty
• 26:50
Speaker 1: percent tariff on oil from Russia on countries buying Russian oil.
• 26:56
Speaker 4: Trump also expressed frustration.
• 26:58
Speaker 1: With Vladimir Putin, saying, quote, we get a lot of
• 27:01
Speaker 1: bull blank thrown at us by Putin.
• 27:04
Speaker 4: We want a deal, but we weren't seeing it.
• 27:07
Speaker 1: The president also has backing the majority of Republicans support
• 27:11
Speaker 1: additional economic sanctions on Russia. For example, a recent poll
• 27:17
Speaker 1: shows eighty six percent of Republicans back further sanctions to
• 27:22
Speaker 1: force an end to the war. Now, some Republicans including
• 27:27
Speaker 1: those in the White House, had also delayed pushing for
• 27:30
Speaker 1: sanction legislation until a possible Trump Putin meeting, indicating hesitation
• 27:36
Speaker 1: that if they did put the sanctions on beforehand, it
• 27:39
Speaker 1: could actually hurt the talks. But now the President has
• 27:42
Speaker 1: made it clear there's a shift, and it suggests that
• 27:45
Speaker 1: Trump administration is moving or being pushed by conservatives for
• 27:51
Speaker 1: a tougher stance on Russia that perhaps was not there
• 27:55
Speaker 1: weeks ago. It also signals to Russia and to buyer
• 28:00
Speaker 1: of Russian energy that the US is united and willing
• 28:03
Speaker 1: to escalate economic tools, not just diplomacy, and for allies,
• 28:10
Speaker 1: the US is implicitly inviting coordination. The Treasury statement, we
• 28:14
Speaker 1: encourage quote our allies to join us, signaling that other
• 28:19
Speaker 1: countries may want to do the exact same thing in
• 28:22
Speaker 1: their country that America is doing right now. And finally,
• 28:26
Speaker 1: for Ukraine, it may increase leverage by pressuring Russia, but
• 28:30
Speaker 1: it does not automatically guarantee a cease fire or an
• 28:33
Speaker 1: end to the war. When you're dealing with someone like
• 28:36
Speaker 1: Vladimir Putin who doesn't even care about his own people,
• 28:39
Speaker 1: this could drag on.
• 28:41
Speaker 4: But for the global energy and trade flow.
• 28:44
Speaker 1: Targeting Russia's oil sector, as President Trump has decided to do,
• 28:47
Speaker 1: can affect global markets and hurt Russia significantly, which is
• 28:53
Speaker 1: exactly why the President of United States of America is
• 28:56
Speaker 1: leading in this way.
• 28:57
Speaker 4: We also know that the US will follow up with more.
• 29:01
Speaker 1: Sanctions Russian banks, on buyers of Russian energy or shipping
• 29:06
Speaker 1: in transport to deepen the pressure. There's a very good
• 29:10
Speaker 1: chance that is going to be needed. And then what
• 29:13
Speaker 1: will happen to Russian oil buyers like China and India?
• 29:17
Speaker 1: How will they respond. What we do know now is
• 29:20
Speaker 1: this is a new pathway in negotiations with President Trump
• 29:24
Speaker 1: and Vladimir Putin, and it's clear that Donald Trump isn't
• 29:28
Speaker 1: messing around. Don't forget Share this podcast please with your
