- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to
- 0:17Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan.
- 0:20It is Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, and we are
- 0:23live from the Snarfl Solutions Group studios
- 0:25right here in Sacramento. We have quite a show
- 0:29lined up for you today. We're going to be looking
- 0:30at a market that is just seeing red everywhere.
- 0:33And then a really fascinating story about the
- 0:37rise of what I'm starting to call the digital
- 0:40police. Right. And to top it off, a moment of
- 0:43radical honesty from the gaming world that I
- 0:46think we could use a lot more of across the tech
- 0:48industry. Definitely. It really is a mixed bag
- 0:50today. You've got the financial volatility, the
- 0:53high stakes crime fighting, and then these big
- 0:55software overhauls. It's a lot. But before we
- 0:58dive into all that, let's let's talk about the
- 1:00world outside the studio window. It is a messy
- 1:03one out there. If you're tuning in from the central
- 1:05Appalachians or, you know, the mid -Atlantic,
- 1:07you're probably already sick of this weather.
- 1:10Oh, yeah. A wintry mix all day. So please drive
- 1:13safe. And for everyone down in the southeast
- 1:15or along the Gulf Coast, keep that umbrella handy.
- 1:19Looks like rain and thunderstorms are on the
- 1:21menu. And snow for the northern plains and Great
- 1:23Lakes, of course. Of course. But here in Sacramento,
- 1:27we started with some pretty thick fog this morning.
- 1:29It was a little ominous on the drive -in, I have
- 1:31to say. It was, but it's burning off now. We're
- 1:34looking at a sunny high of 66 degrees later today.
- 1:37Perfect, just perfect California winter weather.
- 1:41But, you know, while our weather is clearing
- 1:42up, the financial markets are still looking pretty
- 1:44cloudy. Yeah, yesterday was a tough day on Wall
- 1:47Street. The Dow Jones closed down just a bit,
- 1:50maybe... 0 .24%. Right, but the S &P 500 took
- 1:54a much bigger hit. It dropped nearly 1%. And
- 1:56the big story, and this is really the lead domino
- 1:59for our first segment today, is Bitcoin. It has
- 2:03been a roller coaster, just some serious volatility,
- 2:06and today it's opening around $75 ,657 after
- 2:11a really rough couple of days. It's shaky ground.
- 2:15And, you know, navigating this kind of news cycle,
- 2:18it takes a lot of mental energy, which actually
- 2:20brings us to how we're powering through this
- 2:22morning. It really does. We have a new partner
- 2:24for the show. And honestly, with this chaotic
- 2:26start to the day, this is exactly what I needed.
- 2:30Absolutely. We are talking about strong coffee.
- 2:33Now, I have to admit, when I hear instant coffee,
- 2:36I usually, you know, I run the other way. I'm
- 2:38a bit of a coffee snob. I get it. But this is
- 2:41different. It's premium instant coffee that actually
- 2:43tastes like a traditional brew. It really does.
- 2:45But the key difference for me is how it makes
- 2:48you feel. If you love that morning caffeine,
- 2:50but you hate the jitters. Or that midday crash
- 2:53where you just want to find a desk to nap under.
- 2:55Exactly. Strong coffee is the answer. It's all
- 2:58about the ingredients. It's packed with 15 grams
- 3:00of protein, MCTs, and adaptogens like ashwagandha.
- 3:06That ashwagandha is the secret weapon. It really
- 3:09is. It helps balance out the caffeine so you
- 3:11get this clean, sustained energy without that
- 3:14anxiety spike. It's functional fuel. It's not
- 3:16just a caffeine hit. Well said. If you want to
- 3:19try it, head over to strongcoffeecompany .com
- 3:22and use the promo code SNARFL. That's S -N -A
- 3:25-R -F -U -L for 20 % off your entire purchase.
- 3:29All right. Let's get into the morning star. That's
- 3:31our SNARFL Tech article report. We've got three
- 3:34big stories connecting the dots today and we
- 3:36have to start with the money. Let's do it. So
- 3:38first up, Bitcoin has taken a tumble. On Tuesday,
- 3:41it broke below that $73 ,000 mark. That is the
- 3:45lowest price we have seen since, what, November
- 3:472024. That's right. It dipped as low as $72 ,884
- 3:52at one point. And while it has bounced back a
- 3:55little this morning, the overall feeling is nervous.
- 3:58Yeah, we were looking at a report from Alex Thorne
- 4:00over at Dalaxy and his analysis points to some
- 4:04Real structural weakness here. He's warning that
- 4:06we could even see a drop below 60 ,000. And what
- 4:09really stands out to me is the reason why. For
- 4:11years, the whole narrative has been that Bitcoin
- 4:14is digital gold, right? The hedge. Exactly. It's
- 4:17supposed to be a hedge against currency debasement.
- 4:20When the dollar looks weak or inflation is scary,
- 4:23Bitcoin is supposed to go up. Right. But that
- 4:25correlation is just... It's breaking down right
- 4:28now. Actual gold, the metal is surging. It's
- 4:31doing exactly what a head should do. Meanwhile,
- 4:34Bitcoin is sliding. Thorne points out that it's
- 4:36failing to act as that safety net in the cycle.
- 4:40And for those who are into the technical analysis,
- 4:42the charts look pretty precarious. They do. Thorne
- 4:45suggests it might test the 200 -week moving average.
- 4:48And just for our listeners who aren't glued to
- 4:51trading screens, that's a massive long -term
- 4:53indicator. It's basically the average price over
- 4:56the last four years. Right now, that's sitting
- 4:57around $58 ,000. $58 ,000. That is a critical
- 5:01support level. If it breaks below that, well,
- 5:04that signals the long -term trend might be flipping
- 5:07from positive to negative. But here's the part
- 5:09where we really need to connect the dots for
- 5:11everyone, even if you don't own a single Satoshi.
- 5:15This is the so -what factor. You might be sitting
- 5:17there thinking, I don't have a crypto wallet.
- 5:19This crash is just noise to me. But if you have
- 5:21a 401k, a pension, any standard stock portfolio.
- 5:28You are likely exposed to this. We saw it so
- 5:30clearly yesterday. This isn't just hitting the
- 5:32crypto exchanges. It's dragging down major fintech
- 5:35stocks. I mean, look at PayPal. PayPal is the
- 5:37perfect example. They collapsed nearly 20 % yesterday.
- 5:4020%. Closed around $42. Now, to be fair, they
- 5:43also had an earnings miss, so it wasn't only
- 5:45crypto. True. But the negative sentiment in the
- 5:48crypto market acts like a multiplier. When Bitcoin
- 5:52is down, investors get spooked about anything
- 5:55related to digital payments. And it wasn't just
- 5:57PayPal. Galaxy Digital tanked about 19 .5%. Coinbase,
- 6:02the biggest exchange in the U .S., dropped around
- 6:046%. These companies are major parts of growth
- 6:07or tech ETS now. So if you own a mutual fund
- 6:11that tracks the tech sector, your portfolio took
- 6:13a hit yesterday because Bitcoin went down. The
- 6:16markets are all linked now. It's really incredible
- 6:18to see. It shows crypto isn't this little isolated
- 6:20casino in the corner of the Internet anymore.
- 6:22Not at all. It's woven right into the fabric
- 6:25of the financial system. It is. But we shouldn't
- 6:28be all doom and gloom. If we look at the on -chain
- 6:31data, which is basically watching the actual
- 6:34movement of coins on the network, there is a
- 6:36silver lining. Okay, what's the good news? The
- 6:39data shows that long -term profit -taking is
- 6:42finally slowing down. So the people who bought
- 6:45Bitcoin years ago and have been selling to cash
- 6:48out... Exactly. They seem to be running out of
- 6:51steam. The selling pressure from the old guard
- 6:53is letting up. So if we do hit that $58 ,000
- 6:56mark, that 200 -week average... It might not
- 6:58be a total disaster. A lot of analysts, including
- 7:01Thorne, are suggesting that if it hits that level,
- 7:05it could actually be a very strong entry point
- 7:07for long -term investors. Historically, that
- 7:09line has been a floor, not a ceiling. So patience
- 7:12is the name of the game. That's it. Markets flush
- 7:13out the weak hands before they recover. It's
- 7:16a tale as old as time, just with new technology.
- 7:18Speaking of new tech and flushing out bad actors.
- 7:21Let's pivot to our second story. This one is
- 7:24to me even more fascinating than the price action
- 7:27the rise of the crypto cops Yes, this is a huge
- 7:30story about a company called TRM labs. They're
- 7:34a startup and They specialize in blockchain intelligence
- 7:37Basically, they help law enforcement and companies
- 7:40track down crypto crime. And business is good.
- 7:44Business is very good. They just raised $70 million
- 7:46in a Series C funding round. That officially
- 7:49pushes their valuation to $1 billion. We have
- 7:53a new unicorn in this table. A unicorn with a
- 7:56badge. I like that. But what's most telling here
- 7:58is who is giving them the money. Right. It's
- 8:00not just niche crypto VCs. The round was led
- 8:03by blockchain capital, sure, but you also have
- 8:05Goldman Sachs. Citi Ventures. That is a massive
- 8:08signal. When Goldman and Citi are investing in
- 8:11crypto tracking, it tells you that Wall Street
- 8:13sees compliance and safety as the biggest growth
- 8:16sector in the industry. It validates the whole
- 8:18asset class. Banks won't touch crypto if they
- 8:21think it's just for criminals. By funding TRM,
- 8:24they're basically paying to build the police
- 8:26force that makes the neighborhood safe for their
- 8:28institutional money. And they need that police
- 8:30force because the bad guys are getting incredibly
- 8:33sophisticated. We were reading quotes from Ari
- 8:36Redboard, an executive at TRM. He did not mince
- 8:39words. No. He called AI -enabled fraud a civilization
- 8:43-level threat. Which sounds like hyperbole, right?
- 8:45Like something from a movie. But then you see
- 8:47the stats. AI -enabled scams have increased by
- 8:51500%. 500%. That's just, that's terrifying. It
- 8:55is. We're talking defakes of CEOs ordering wire
- 8:58transfers, automated phishing scripts. The barrier
- 9:01to entry for being a cyber criminal has never
- 9:04been lower because AI does all the heavy lifting.
- 9:06But TRM is actively stopping it. The case studies
- 9:09in this report, they read like a true crime thriller.
- 9:11Let's talk about Operation LusoCoin. This was
- 9:14a massive operation down in Brazil, a money -longering
- 9:16scheme moving about 50 billion Ries. That's roughly
- 9:209 billion US dollars. 9 billion dollars. That
- 9:24is staggering. It's a fortune. And they were
- 9:26using crypto to hide it. TRM Labs provided the
- 9:29software that let Brazilian authorities trace
- 9:31those transactions through the whole blockchain
- 9:34maze. And the result wasn't just digital. They
- 9:37seized luxury cars, properties, jewels. They
- 9:40dismantled the entire physical operation. And
- 9:43that really busts that old myth, you know, that
- 9:46crypto is anonymous and perfect for crime. Exactly.
- 9:49It's the opposite. The blockchain is a public
- 9:51ledger. It records everything forever. If you
- 9:54have the right tools, you can trace money in
- 9:56a way you actually can't with cash. Cash leaves
- 9:59no trail. Crypto leaves a permanent one and it's
- 10:02not just white -collar crime this next case This
- 10:05one really shook me the Grinder gang in the UK.
- 10:08This is a truly disturbing one Yeah criminals
- 10:10were using fake profiles on the dating app Gringer
- 10:13to lure victims to a meeting thinking they were
- 10:16going on a date exactly and when they arrived
- 10:18they were assaulted held captive and Forced to
- 10:21transfer their crypto holdings. That's just horrific
- 10:23weaponizing press and technology in the worst
- 10:26possible way It's nightmare fuel, but here's
- 10:28the twist Because they stole crypto, TRM Labs
- 10:32was able to trace the funds from the victim's
- 10:34wallets straight to the criminal's accounts.
- 10:36So the very thing they stole became the evidence
- 10:38that locked them up? Correct. The gang members
- 10:41got over 78 years of combined prison time. Without
- 10:44that blockchain analysis, it would have been
- 10:47so much harder to prove. And there was a similar
- 10:49case here in the U .S., right? Yes, a ringleader
- 10:51named Remy St. Felix. He was doing home invasions,
- 10:54targeting high net worth individuals, forcing
- 10:57them to empty their crypto accounts. TRM tracked
- 11:00the money he was sentenced to 47 years. It really
- 11:03reframes the whole narrative. The police of the
- 11:06blockchain are becoming just as valuable as the
- 11:08currency itself. It's the maturation of the industry.
- 11:11You can't have mass adoption without mass safety.
- 11:14And TRM Labs hitting a billion dollar valuation
- 11:17proves safety is now a premium product. Speaking
- 11:20of maturing and fixing broken systems, let's
- 11:23move to our third story. This one is for the
- 11:25gamers, but the business lesson applies to everyone.
- 11:28We're talking about Epic Games. Specifically,
- 11:30the Epic Games Store. If you play Fortnite or
- 11:33really any PC games, you've probably used their
- 11:35launcher. And for years, the consensus has been,
- 11:38well, negative is an understatement. People hated
- 11:40it. It was slow. It was clunky. just missing
- 11:43basic features. But in a move you almost never
- 11:46see, Stephen Allison, the VP at Epic Games Store,
- 11:50did an interview and just dropped the PR spin.
- 11:52He did. He admitted, quote, the launcher sucks.
- 11:56I love that. Not we're facing optimization headwinds,
- 11:59just it sucks. It's so refreshing. He acknowledged
- 12:02it's slow, lacks social features like profiles
- 12:05and chat, everything gamers have been saying
- 12:08for years. So the obvious question is. Why? Epic
- 12:11makes billions from Fortnite. They have the resources.
- 12:14Why was their store so bad for so long? Alison
- 12:17actually gave a really insightful answer. He
- 12:20explained that when they launched, their entire
- 12:21focus was on developers, not players. Right,
- 12:24the famous 88 -12 revenue split. Exactly. Steam
- 12:26takes 30%. Epic said, we'll only take 12, leaving
- 12:3088 % for the creators. To make that work, they
- 12:33had to pour all their engineering talent into
- 12:35the backend. the seller side of the marketplace.
- 12:38Which makes sense as a business strategy to get
- 12:40games on the platform, but it meant the buyer
- 12:42experience the launch we all use was neglected.
- 12:45It was a trade -off, but now they're pivoting.
- 12:48Allison said they're pulling the guts out of
- 12:50the software and rebuilding it from scratch.
- 12:53So when do we see the results? Promising a fix
- 12:56is one thing. They're on tight timeline. He said
- 12:59we should see significant speed improvements
- 13:01by May or June of this year. So just a few months.
- 13:05And what about the social stuff? Because for
- 13:08me, that's the biggest miss. I want to see what
- 13:10my friends are playing. That's coming in Q2 as
- 13:12well. They're rolling out community spaces, avatars,
- 13:15and cross -platform chat. They're basically trying
- 13:18to turn the store into a social network, like
- 13:20Steam. There is also a mention of a forum -type
- 13:24experience later in the year, which feels like
- 13:26a bit of a throwback. It does, but I think it's
- 13:28smart. Discord is great for real -time chat,
- 13:31but it's terrible for archiving information.
- 13:34Old school forums were amazing for strategy guides
- 13:37and deep discussions. It all connects back to
- 13:39the theme of the day, really. You can burn cash
- 13:41and chase growth for a while, but eventually
- 13:43you have to build a product that actually works.
- 13:45You have to mature. That's the through line.
- 13:48And admitting it sucks is the first step. It
- 13:51builds trust. I think gamers will be much more
- 13:54willing to give them a second chance because
- 13:56of that honesty. Absolutely. Transparency goes
- 13:58a very long way. Well, before we wrap up and
- 14:01send you off into your Wednesday, we have one
- 14:03more sponsor we want to tell you about. And with
- 14:05the weather clearing up here, I know a lot of
- 14:07you are thinking about hitting the golf course.
- 14:10If you are, you need to check out Sconey. That's
- 14:14Sconey. S -K -O -N -I. We've been looking at
- 14:18their shoes, and they've really nailed that crossover
- 14:20between performance and style. They look like
- 14:22high -end casual sneakers, but they've got the
- 14:25grip you need on the course. You can wear them
- 14:27to the course, play around, and then head straight
- 14:29to dinner without changing your shoes. And we've
- 14:32got a deal for you. Use the promo code SNARFL
- 14:34at checkout for 15 % off your entire purchase.
- 14:37You can find them at scony .com. So let's recap
- 14:40the dots we've connected today. It's been a wide
- 14:42-ranging conversation. First, the markets. Bitcoin
- 14:46has slid to its 2024 lows, dragging giants like
- 14:51PayPal and Coinbase down with it. It's painful,
- 14:54but the data suggests we might be nearing the
- 14:57end of the profit -taking phase. Second, the
- 15:00Wild West of crypto is officially being tamed.
- 15:03TRM Labs is a new unicorn backed by Wall Street,
- 15:06using AI to track down billions in laundered
- 15:08money and put violent criminals behind bars.
- 15:11And finally, Epic Games is growing up. They're
- 15:14admitting their launcher sucks and promising
- 15:16a faster, more social experience by this summer.
- 15:19Which leaves us with a thought to chew on. We
- 15:21often romanticize the early days of tech, the
- 15:24chaos, the breaking things, but are we entering
- 15:26a phase that's actually better? A phase where
- 15:28the tech is stable, users are protected, and
- 15:31companies are accountable. It might be less exciting
- 15:34than the boom times, but it's definitely more
- 15:35sustainable. I think so, too. Well, that is it
- 15:38for us today. Thank you so much for tuning in
- 15:39to Connecting the Dots. We're here to help at
- 15:41Snarful, so reach out on our website if you have

- 15:48That's a wrap on today's top stories. Remember,
- 15:52tech doesn't have to be complicated, and we're
- 15:54here to help connect the dots. If you've got
- 15:56questions or want to learn more, visit us at
