- 0:01Speaker 1: So we all know that the House was able to
- 0:03Speaker 1: cut about fifteen hundred pages of a ridiculous bill continuing
- 0:08Speaker 1: resolution that was filled with waste and abuse and just
- 0:12Speaker 1: pure corruption of Washington, DC. We know now that the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Senate has passed it, so there's not going to be
- 0:19Speaker 1: a government shut down now. In general, I want to
- 0:22Speaker 1: be clear, this is great news. The media is going
- 0:26Speaker 1: to spend this in a different way. What the media
- 0:30Speaker 1: is going to do is they are going to spin
- 0:32Speaker 1: it to tell you to make you believe, okay, that
- 0:37Speaker 1: this is somehow it was a big waste of time
- 0:40Speaker 1: and that nothing actually big, good or successful came out
- 0:44Speaker 1: of this. I'll give you an example of what I
- 0:46Speaker 1: mean by this. Center Haggerty, Republican Tennessee, was on a
- 0:53Speaker 1: State of the Union on CNN on Sunday, and I
- 0:56Speaker 1: want you to hear what he had to say as
- 1:00Speaker 1: try to turn averting a shutdown, which is a victory,
- 1:04Speaker 1: into a somehow disaster and also trying to claim that
- 1:10Speaker 1: you guys really didn't accomplish anything at all by cutting
- 1:13Speaker 1: fifteen hundred pages of spending, waste, abuse and fraud and
- 1:18Speaker 1: just pure corruption out of the first bill which turned
- 1:22Speaker 1: into the second bill that was one hundred and something pages.
- 1:24Speaker 2: All Right, I want.
- 1:26Speaker 1: You to hear CNN putting this together, trying to tell
- 1:29Speaker 1: America that this was somehow a failure for Trump, a
- 1:33Speaker 1: failure for people that want to have responsibility and spending,
- 1:38Speaker 1: a failure for Elon Musk, a failure for ramasawm Me,
- 1:41Speaker 1: a failure for DOJE, even though it clearly was a victory.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And then they're like, oh, and by the way, you
- 1:46Speaker 1: guys didn't increase the debt ceiling, so you're gonna have
- 1:49Speaker 1: to do that in Trump and Trump demand it. So
- 1:51Speaker 1: you guys failed in there. So this is a disaster. Look,
- 1:54Speaker 1: you still got to get the votes, and you have
- 1:56Speaker 1: a Democratic Senate, and the Democratic Senate had to agree
- 1:59Speaker 1: to something, and I think they weren't going to agree
- 2:03Speaker 1: to increase the debt ceiling because they want to force
- 2:06Speaker 1: Donald Trump to do that when he's in office.
- 2:09Speaker 2: So there's what you want and there's reality.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And the reality was Republicans had to give something to
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Senate that the Senate would actually pass. And so
- 2:18Speaker 1: Democrats made it very clear they did not want to
- 2:21Speaker 1: increase the debt ceiling, even though this is clearly Joe
- 2:24Speaker 1: Biden's fault, and they want to hand that negative to
- 2:28Speaker 1: Donald Trump when he comes into office in January. So again,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you want to know how corrupt CNN is. You want
- 2:35Speaker 1: to know how bad, how terrible Dana Basti is at
- 2:38Speaker 1: her job, and you want to hear just how evil
- 2:40Speaker 1: they are about telling you what's actually going on in America.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Listen to this back and forth with her and with
- 2:47Speaker 1: Senator Bill Haggerty. He's on the Appropriations Committee. That's why
- 2:50Speaker 1: they had him on.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Listen.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Understandable given what you just described and what we all witnessed,
- 2:56Speaker 3: but also given the fact that you know him well
- 2:59Speaker 3: and you understand what he was going for. The final
- 3:02Speaker 3: spending bill that you all approved did not have any
- 3:06Speaker 3: new spending cuts. It didn't include the debt limit increase
- 3:10Speaker 3: that Donald Trump was demanding. So what did he accomplish
- 3:14Speaker 3: with all of this?
- 3:16Speaker 4: Well, the main thing, and I can share with you
- 3:18Speaker 4: my perspective on a Dana, is this. We have had
- 3:22Speaker 4: our appropriations bills on the floor of the United States
- 3:24Speaker 4: Senate since this past summer. Chuck Schumer has refused to
- 3:27Speaker 4: bring them forward. This is a typical Washington process where
- 3:31Speaker 4: we wind up with a work product that the American
- 3:33Speaker 4: public can't possibly understand. They dumped over fifteen hundred pages
- 3:36Speaker 4: on us, and Elon Musk, using the tool of Twitter,
- 3:39Speaker 4: brought transparency to the entirety of it. The American public
- 3:41Speaker 4: were shocked. We always shocked, and we see these types
- 3:44Speaker 4: of monstrosities at the last minute that haven't been properly vetted.
- 3:47Speaker 4: And President of Trump was able to bring his weight
- 3:49Speaker 4: to the table and say, look, this has got to stop.
- 3:52Speaker 4: This has got to be skinning down, this has got
- 3:53Speaker 4: to change. My overarching goal coming into this was to
- 3:56Speaker 4: make certain that the government didn't shut down because President
- 3:59Speaker 4: Trump over the next thirty days needs to be able
- 4:01Speaker 4: to process his nominees. We need to be able to
- 4:04Speaker 4: put him place to get to work on January the twentieth,
- 4:07Speaker 4: because three quarters of the American public feel that the
- 4:10Speaker 4: United States is on the wrong track right now. So
- 4:12Speaker 4: I appreciate the fact that Elon Musk made this transparent
- 4:15Speaker 4: and that we were able to actually improve this. We
- 4:17Speaker 4: didn't get everything we wanted, certainly I didn't, but we're
- 4:20Speaker 4: in a better place now because we're going to be
- 4:21Speaker 4: in a position to make certain that President Trump is
- 4:23Speaker 4: ready to go on day one.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I got to give kudos to Haggerty for dealing with
- 4:27Speaker 1: it the way that he just did and saying it
- 4:29Speaker 1: the way that he just did. They dumped over fifteen
- 4:32Speaker 1: hundred pages on us, and I appreciate the fact that
- 4:34Speaker 1: Elon Musk made this transparent. This is the reason why
- 4:39Speaker 1: I will never trust the media again because the lack
- 4:42Speaker 1: of transparency from the media. They don't want there to
- 4:46Speaker 1: be transparency. They do not want for you and I
- 4:49Speaker 1: to know what's happening. Neither does the Swamp. They want
- 4:52Speaker 1: us guessing all the time. They don't want us to
- 4:56Speaker 1: understand what is in the bills. This goes back to
- 4:58Speaker 1: Nancy Pelosi. We won't know what's in the bill until
- 5:01Speaker 1: we pass the bill. That is the mantra of the left.
- 5:07Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Now, there's a second part of this that I want
- 5:11Speaker 1: you to know about that it's becoming an issue as well,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and that is Speaker Johnson. There are many that are
- 5:17Speaker 1: hoping that Donald Trump will come in and that there
- 5:20Speaker 1: will be a big fight and they will get rid
- 5:23Speaker 1: of Speaker Johnson, and that there will be chaos within
- 5:26Speaker 1: the Republican Party. I'm going to say what I said earlier.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm going to warn you about this right now. Speaker
- 5:32Speaker 1: Johnson at this point is clearly the most conservative.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Speaker that we could get.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And if we get rid of Speaker Johnson, I'm telling
- 5:39Speaker 1: you right now, we're going to get a much more
- 5:40Speaker 1: liberal speaker. That is why Democrats are pushing for this. Okay,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I'll give you an example of how they're starting to
- 5:47Speaker 1: bring this into an issue on ABC this week. What
- 5:51Speaker 1: did they say about Speaker Johnson. What they said was, well,
- 5:54Speaker 1: he's in real trouble and they're wanting this to be
- 5:57Speaker 1: the story going into January.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Carefully, join now by ABC News contributing political correspondent and
- 6:04Speaker 5: Political Capital Bureau chief Rachel Bade. So, Rachel, why did
- 6:09Speaker 5: so many Republicans defy Trump?
- 6:13Speaker 6: Well, you know, John, in a lot of ways, I
- 6:14Speaker 6: feel like President Trump was sort of asking for the
- 6:17Speaker 6: impossible in this situation. I mean, there's been a lot
- 6:19Speaker 6: of hot takes out there that he in some way
- 6:21Speaker 6: has lost his juice with Republicans or his sway with
- 6:23Speaker 6: the party. I don't buy that, and I'll tell you why.
- 6:26Speaker 6: I Mean, if you look at debt sealing votes, historically,
- 6:29Speaker 6: this is a toxic vote for Republicans, especially when you're
- 6:32Speaker 6: trying to raise the debt ceialing without corresponding spending cuts
- 6:35Speaker 6: or really any spending cuts whatsoever. And I went back
- 6:38Speaker 6: and looked at a lot of the votes on the
- 6:40Speaker 6: debt ceiling in past years, even when President Trump was
- 6:42Speaker 6: president before, and way more Republicans opposed it. I'm talking
- 6:46Speaker 6: about in the hundreds up to two hundred at one point,
- 6:48Speaker 6: and so I'm surprised that only thirty eight Republicans actually
- 6:51Speaker 6: opposed this. The bigger issue, in my view, is this
- 6:54Speaker 6: sheer breakdown in communication between President Trump and Speaker Johnson here,
- 6:58Speaker 6: I mean President Trump.
- 6:59Speaker 1: By the way, you notice how all this is doom
- 7:01Speaker 1: and gloom, Like, are you hearing this? We cut fifteen
- 7:05Speaker 1: hundred pages of government waste and they're saying it's doom
- 7:09Speaker 1: and gloom. We cut a bill with transparency because of
- 7:14Speaker 1: the influence of Donald Trump and Elon Musk and X
- 7:18Speaker 1: and putting it out there, having transparency for the people,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and they're telling you it's doom and gloom. I want
- 7:24Speaker 1: you to understand that what happened to Donald Trump in
- 7:27Speaker 1: twenty sixteen is exactly the way the media is wanting
- 7:30Speaker 1: twenty twenty four to go he's lost his juice. He's
- 7:34Speaker 1: already he's already in trouble. Things are. This is a
- 7:38Speaker 1: disaster for Republicans. They're already fighting. I can't believe that
- 7:42Speaker 1: in cut government spending. I can't believe that they were
- 7:45Speaker 1: in this situation. Donald Trump had an unrealistic expectation for Republicans,
- 7:53Speaker 1: all of.
- 7:53Speaker 2: This doom and gloom.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Even in a successful vote to cut a bill by
- 8:00Speaker 1: fifteen hundred pages, eighty something percent of the pages disappeared
- 8:05Speaker 1: because of transparency. And somehow they start every single Sunday
- 8:09Speaker 1: morning talk show saying the same damn thing. Wow, Donald
- 8:12Speaker 1: Trump may have lost his juice. Donald Trump got screwed
- 8:16Speaker 1: by Republicans. The Speaker of the House is gonna lose everything. Oh,
- 8:20Speaker 1: look how bad things are. Woe is me. Look how
- 8:22Speaker 1: terrible things are. Look how awful things are? One after
- 8:26Speaker 1: another after another, after another after another. Doom and gloom,
- 8:29Speaker 1: doom and gloom, doom and gloom, doom and gloom, doom
- 8:31Speaker 1: and gloom.
- 8:31Speaker 2: It's constant with these people. It is constant.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And so what I would say is, when you hear this,
- 8:39Speaker 1: look at the reality of the situation.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Was this a success this week? Yes?
- 8:43Speaker 1: What I've loved for the debt cealing't have been raised. Yes,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but I'm also realist and I know that the Democrats
- 8:47Speaker 1: have controlled the Senate and they weren't going to vote
- 8:48Speaker 1: for that, and then there would have been a government shutdown,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and it wasn't gonna hurt Joe Biden because he's already
- 8:53Speaker 1: out of office, and then Donald Trump could have inherited
- 8:56Speaker 1: a government that was shut down. If you go back
- 8:59Speaker 1: to ABC This Week and the second part of the interview.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So the first part is everything's bad, donald Trump's losses Mojoe,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Democrats are brilliant, and Donald Trump is going to lose
- 9:09Speaker 1: a speaker, Right, that's the second part of this, right,
- 9:11Speaker 1: because they're going to tell you how bad things are,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and then they're going to they're starting they're trying to
- 9:14Speaker 1: start civil war between Speaker Johnson and Maga Republicans so
- 9:19Speaker 1: that you believe that he is a terrible person. And
- 9:22Speaker 1: it's all about you believing that. Listen to part two
- 9:25Speaker 1: of ABC This Week where they say, and then this
- 9:28Speaker 1: war between Speaker Johnson, don't Trump, Oh, it's really bad, folks.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Telling Johnson he wanted him to do this right after
- 9:35Speaker 6: the election, that They've been talking about this for a
- 9:37Speaker 6: long time. Johnson's folks have been sort of under the
- 9:39Speaker 6: impression that this wasn't a big priority for President Trump
- 9:42Speaker 6: until two days before the deadline when he came up
- 9:44Speaker 6: and sort of blew up the deal. Also, President Trump
- 9:47Speaker 6: was under the impression that when he did add the
- 9:49Speaker 6: debt ceiling to the CR the Continuing Resolution, that it
- 9:52Speaker 6: was actually going to pass. And that's why he sort
- 9:53Speaker 6: of leaned in and tried to sort of say, look, Republicans,
- 9:56Speaker 6: you need to do this. If he had known he
- 9:58Speaker 6: was going to lose thirty eight Republicans, he would have
- 10:00Speaker 6: done this. And so the relationship right now, I mean,
- 10:02Speaker 6: they've got some work to do if they want to
- 10:04Speaker 6: be effective next year.
- 10:06Speaker 1: They've got some work to do, Folks. I don't believe,
- 10:09Speaker 1: by the way, any of the craps you just said.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I think Donald Trump leaned in to cut fifteen hundred
- 10:15Speaker 1: pages of a sixteen hundred plus page bill. And that's
- 10:19Speaker 1: what he leaned in on. Did he get everything he
- 10:21Speaker 1: wanted to know? Our Democrats in control of the Senate, Yes,
- 10:24Speaker 1: Is there a slim majority in the House, yes?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Was this going to be tough to do? Right?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Before people are leaving, and many people are leaving Congress
- 10:31Speaker 1: forever that lost reelection because they're going to stick it
- 10:33Speaker 1: to Donald Trump, including some Republicans at loss. Yes, do
- 10:37Speaker 1: I believe in this doom and gloom the way that
- 10:39Speaker 1: they're talking about it.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I do not.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I do not at all. And then listen to this
- 10:43Speaker 1: part where they're like, oh, well, now we got it.
- 10:45Speaker 1: We got a problem with Speaker Johnson.
- 10:48Speaker 7: Good speaker of Jenuiny there it's the million dollar question
- 10:51Speaker 7: right now John I will say people have underestimated Johnson
- 10:54Speaker 7: quite a bit in the past year, and oftentimes he
- 10:56Speaker 7: sort of, you know.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Outless his naysayers here. But the situation is different. I mean,
- 11:01Speaker 6: I've talked to a lot of Trump folks over the
- 11:03Speaker 6: past couple of days, and Trump has really soured on him.
- 11:06Speaker 6: It feels like something in this relationship has really broken.
- 11:09Speaker 5: The days it needs Trump to get reelected.
- 11:12Speaker 6: Absolutely, he needs Trump, and not only does he need
- 11:14Speaker 6: Trump's endorsement, He's going to need President Trump to lean
- 11:18Speaker 6: in to actually get that gavel. And right now I'm
- 11:20Speaker 6: hearing from people that there's a real question about whether
- 11:22Speaker 6: Trump's going to lift a finger for him to do this.
- 11:25Speaker 6: I think the question Trump has to ask himself is
- 11:28Speaker 6: ousting Johnson worth potentially upending his agenda at the beginning
- 11:32Speaker 6: of the year and creating this sort of stall in momentum.
- 11:36Speaker 6: I mean, look, we remember the speakership chaos when.
- 11:38Speaker 2: McCarthy is out.
- 11:41Speaker 6: A whole month went by when we had no idea
- 11:43Speaker 6: who was leading the conference. Right now, this speakership vote
- 11:46Speaker 6: is set for January third. President Trump, his victory is
- 11:49Speaker 6: set to be certified on January sixth.
- 11:51Speaker 7: I was talking to.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Someone last night, pretty high up and Republican on the Hill,
- 11:54Speaker 6: who was saying that without a speaker, you can't certify
- 11:57Speaker 6: his election. So does he really want to do this?
- 12:00Speaker 6: He want to stall his agenda, but perhaps he feels
- 12:02Speaker 6: like it's worth it. I guess time will tell, all right,
- 12:05Speaker 6: Rachel Vage.
- 12:05Speaker 1: By the way, I want to tell you multiple reasons
- 12:08Speaker 1: why I disagree with the analysis that I just played
- 12:11Speaker 1: for you. I don't believe that their rift is anything
- 12:14Speaker 1: close to what they're trying to do on TV, which
- 12:16Speaker 1: is to trying to start a civil war. I believe
- 12:19Speaker 1: that Speaker Johnson and Donald Trump have a good working relationship.
- 12:25Speaker 1: They have done multiple events together recently, he's been done
- 12:29Speaker 1: at mar Lago recently. Multiple times, they had multiple events
- 12:34Speaker 1: together on the campaign trail. They helped raise money to
- 12:37Speaker 1: get others elected, Republicans elected, and they worked really well
- 12:40Speaker 1: getting Donald Trump into tight races to make sure that
- 12:43Speaker 1: they were able to win a Senate majority, as thin
- 12:47Speaker 1: as it may be a House majority.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I should say, as soon as it may be.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I don't believe this idea that Speaker Johnson is in
- 12:55Speaker 1: serious trouble. In fact, I would argue that Donald Trump
- 12:59Speaker 1: is smart enough for right now to say, hey, I
- 13:02Speaker 1: need to move forward with an agenda with a conservative
- 13:05Speaker 1: and Speaker Johnson is the best conservative that could get
- 13:08Speaker 1: elected right now. What they're hoping is that this is
- 13:12Speaker 1: a party in chaos. Headline today Johnson Carl Congress chaos right.
- 13:21Speaker 1: This is this is how they spread it to the country.
- 13:24Speaker 1: This is how they try to start a civil war.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Listen, if you were watching Congress this week, you might
- 13:29Speaker 5: have thought for a moment that Donald Trump is already president.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Along with his most high profile and wealthiest advisor, Trump
- 13:37Speaker 5: upended a bipartisan spending deal that had been months in
- 13:41Speaker 5: the making. But the power of a president elects, just
- 13:44Speaker 5: like the power of a president only goes so far.
- 13:47Speaker 5: And while Trump's hold on the Republican Party is not
- 13:50Speaker 5: in doubt, we saw that his power to get Congress
- 13:53Speaker 5: to do what he wants has its limits. As Congress
- 13:56Speaker 5: veered towards a shutdown, Trump made only one non negotiable demand.
- 14:02Speaker 5: He said that the bill to keep the government open
- 14:04Speaker 5: must also increase or abolish the so called debt cealing
- 14:08Speaker 5: that's the amount the federal government can.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Borrow to pay its bills.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Without this, Trump said on social media, we should never
- 14:16Speaker 5: make a deal. And this wasn't just advice. It came
- 14:20Speaker 5: with a warning that he might campaign against Republicans who
- 14:24Speaker 5: dared to defy him. Trump declaring any Republican that would
- 14:28Speaker 5: be so stupid as to do this should and will
- 14:31Speaker 5: be primaried. And even with that, thirty eight Republicans defied
- 14:36Speaker 5: their president's elect. They were either unworried about his warning
- 14:40Speaker 5: or simply didn't take it seriously, and.
- 14:43Speaker 1: In the end, or it was Republicans that were leaving office.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Notice how they don't tell you that part of the story.
- 14:52Speaker 1: There are members of Congress that are not coming back
- 14:54Speaker 1: that voted on this. It would be nice if they
- 14:57Speaker 1: ran out actually honest enough to tell you that they
- 14:59Speaker 1: haven't told you that. The reason why it is very
- 15:00Speaker 1: clear they don't want you to know that. But remember
- 15:05Speaker 1: this is all about doom and gloom, and I'm warning
- 15:08Speaker 1: you the propaganda is full speed ahead right now. Keep
- 15:12Speaker 1: listening to part two of this propaganda.
- 15:16Speaker 5: One hundred and seventy Republicans, along with almost all of
- 15:19Speaker 5: the Democrats, approved a bill to temporarily fund the government
- 15:24Speaker 5: without raising the dead ceiling, again defying Trump's demand. Trump
- 15:29Speaker 5: had very good reason to insist on raising or eliminating
- 15:32Speaker 5: the dead ceiling. The government is on pace to hit
- 15:35Speaker 5: the limit on how much it can borrow next spring,
- 15:38Speaker 5: and if it is not raised, the government faces default
- 15:42Speaker 5: with dire consequences for the economy and for the Trump agenda.
- 15:46Speaker 2: This week proved he won't.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Be able to count on Republicans alone to avert that disaster.
- 15:53Speaker 5: One casualty of this shutdown mess maybe the Speaker of
- 15:56Speaker 5: the House, Mike Johnson. He tried to do Trump's bidding,
- 16:00Speaker 5: and he failed, hurting his standing with the President's elect
- 16:04Speaker 5: and with at least some of his Republican colleagues. Will
- 16:07Speaker 5: he be re elected as Speaker when Congress reconvenes on
- 16:11Speaker 5: January third, with a minuscule Republican majority that could take
- 16:16Speaker 5: a minor miracle. On the show this morning, we'll hear
- 16:19Speaker 5: from a.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Republican now again, that is the lead in.
- 16:23Speaker 1: You just noticed in that lead in there was not
- 16:24Speaker 1: a single thing about a massive cut in the number
- 16:27Speaker 1: of pages. That is the beginning of ABC's this week
- 16:34Speaker 1: when they're running their biggest show of the week and
- 16:38Speaker 1: they start with Congress chaos. Chaos, by the way, you
- 16:42Speaker 1: could argue to be a government shutdown which we didn't have.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Chaos would be passing a bill that no one had
- 16:47Speaker 1: read which didn't happen. Chaos would be a bill filled
- 16:51Speaker 1: with pork so big that it was seventeen sixteen hundred
- 16:55Speaker 1: pages that didn't happen. We cut fifteen hundred pages from
- 17:00Speaker 1: a bill. Does that sound like chaos? Doesn't sound like
- 17:05Speaker 1: chaos to me. We have a speaker who had a
- 17:09Speaker 1: very tight majority and got a deal done to avert
- 17:12Speaker 1: a government shutdown, which they would have definitely blamed on
- 17:15Speaker 1: Donald Trump. That didn't happen either. We have a debt
- 17:19Speaker 1: ceiling vote that's gonna come up, no doubt about it.
- 17:22Speaker 1: But the reality is they've got now time to think
- 17:24Speaker 1: about how they're gonna do it, and how they're gonna
- 17:27Speaker 1: do it in the best way possible. I will go
- 17:30Speaker 1: back to what I said at the beginning. I don't
- 17:33Speaker 1: believe that Speaker Johnson has a massive sourd relationship with
- 17:36Speaker 1: Donald Trump right now. I think that's a media telling
- 17:39Speaker 1: a lie. I wanted to start a civil war. I
- 17:41Speaker 1: believe that this was a great scenario, a great scenario
- 17:45Speaker 1: that what just took place, and I'm glad that it
- 17:48Speaker 1: took place the way that it did. I'm glad we
- 17:51Speaker 1: got rid of fifteen hundred pages. This was what I
- 17:53Speaker 1: would refer to as a very clear victory for Donald Trump.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And yet the media doesn't mention the number of pages cut,
- 17:59Speaker 1: and they'll tell you it's a terrible day in America.
- 18:03Speaker 1: You need to remember they lie to you on purpose
- 18:05Speaker 1: for a reason. They lie to you on purpose because
- 18:09Speaker 1: they want you to hate Trump and they want you
- 18:11Speaker 1: to hate Speaker Johnson, and they want you to think
- 18:13Speaker 1: they can't govern, and they want you to be angry.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Don't take the bait.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Enjoy knowing that we just had a victory of cutting
- 18:25Speaker 1: government waste and spending the question is how was the
- 18:30Speaker 1: deal done and how did it turn out to be
- 18:33Speaker 1: so different than what was originally going to happen. It
- 18:36Speaker 1: is the art of the deal, that's the best way
- 18:38Speaker 1: I can describe it. And it was a deal that
- 18:40Speaker 1: certainly was going to put us in a better place
- 18:43Speaker 1: than we were before because many Conservatives were willing to
- 18:47Speaker 1: stand up and fight hard. The Maga revolt, that's how
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's being described in the press right now. Slash the
- 18:55Speaker 1: original one thousand, five hundred and forty seven page spending
- 19:00Speaker 1: bill all the way down to just one hundred and
- 19:04Speaker 1: eighteen pages this Friday, and the House bill to a
- 19:09Speaker 1: vertic government shutdown was trimmed by one thousand, three hundred
- 19:14Speaker 1: and fifty nine pages after conservatives said, no, we are
- 19:19Speaker 1: not going to have this massive expansion of government in
- 19:23Speaker 1: a continuing resolution and we're not going to have the
- 19:26Speaker 1: pork barrel spending in the cr as Well. House Speaker
- 19:29Speaker 1: Mike Johnson's original measure was filled with pork, there's no
- 19:33Speaker 1: doubt about it.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Now.
- 19:35Speaker 1: He also had to work a deal because he had
- 19:36Speaker 1: to deal with Republicans and Democrats, and that's a very
- 19:40Speaker 1: tough spot to be in. I want to be clear
- 19:42Speaker 1: about that. I'm going to explain more about why I
- 19:44Speaker 1: say that in a moment, but the reduction in size
- 19:47Speaker 1: underscores what I would say is the failure by the
- 19:51Speaker 1: pork barrel spenders in DC who wanted to pass a
- 19:55Speaker 1: massive spending bill with Democrats support that few had even
- 19:58Speaker 1: read before some members were asked to vote on it,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and that is a problem. There is an appetite for
- 20:04Speaker 1: government reform right now. There's an appetite for reducing the
- 20:08Speaker 1: size of government. It's very clear that there was a
- 20:10Speaker 1: mandate for that in this last election. There is a
- 20:13Speaker 1: huge appetite in people supporting and advocating for DOGE. That
- 20:18Speaker 1: is going to be streamlining and changing how we do
- 20:24Speaker 1: and run and spend our money in the US. That's
- 20:27Speaker 1: being done by Elon Musk and by vi vic Ramaswamie
- 20:31Speaker 1: at the leadership of Donald Trump. Now you put all
- 20:34Speaker 1: that together and Democrats are angry. They're angry at Elon Musk,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and they're angry at MAGA. They're angry at Conservatives for
- 20:44Speaker 1: standing up to the government waste and abuse. How angry
- 20:48Speaker 1: are they? Let me play for you. Rosa Delaro, who
- 20:53Speaker 1: lost her mind on the floor of the House is
- 20:55Speaker 1: She's angry as she describes it, that there is some
- 20:58Speaker 1: man who is electtion did by no one, who is
- 21:02Speaker 1: now giving marching orders to the House and the Republicans
- 21:05Speaker 1: to shut down the government. Issue described it. Take a
- 21:09Speaker 1: listen to the purpled haired Democrat from Connecticut.
- 21:14Speaker 8: We are on the cusp of an agreement to move
- 21:17Speaker 8: this country forward. But two days ago, a multi billionaire
- 21:24Speaker 8: with apparently no working knowledge of our government or of appropriations,
- 21:31Speaker 8: someone who is a self appointed president of the United States,
- 21:36Speaker 8: Elon Musk, issued a marching order for House Republicans to
- 21:41Speaker 8: go against their own elected leadership. Shut down the government,
- 21:47Speaker 8: shut down the government. House Republicans are responsible for any
- 21:52Speaker 8: harm and uncertainty brought upon the American people, and should
- 21:57Speaker 8: some get their wish for a month long governmen shut down,
- 22:01Speaker 8: they will be responsible for cleaning up their mess come
- 22:04Speaker 8: inauguration day. Indeed, we are in completely unprecedented times when
- 22:11Speaker 8: someone who has no knowledge of government, who has no
- 22:16Speaker 8: knowledge of an appropriations process, who is external to the
- 22:21Speaker 8: House of Representatives, can make his weight felt here in
- 22:27Speaker 8: turning what was a bill that was on its way,
- 22:33Speaker 8: a bipartisan bill, a bi camer bill, was on its
- 22:37Speaker 8: way to achieving its goal of keeping the US government open,
- 22:43Speaker 8: and the goal actually is providing services to American citizens,
- 22:49Speaker 8: to working families, middle class families, vulnerable families are where
- 22:56Speaker 8: our responsibility lies. World's richest man reaping billions in government
- 23:06Speaker 8: contracts is calling the shots in the Republican Party at
- 23:12Speaker 8: the behest of the world's richest man, who no one
- 23:16Speaker 8: voted for. The United States Congress has been thrown into
- 23:21Speaker 8: pandemonian It leads you to the question of who is
- 23:26Speaker 8: in charge. I thought that there was a Republican majority
- 23:32Speaker 8: in this body, not a President Musk majority.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Now let's talk about what she said. Quote the self
- 23:45Speaker 1: appointed President of the United States, Elon Mussys, he'd a
- 23:47Speaker 1: marching order for House Republicans to shut the government down.
- 23:50Speaker 1: What he made, what he actually did was he said, no,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I'm calling out the abuse of power. I'm calling out
- 23:57Speaker 1: the fact that you've got a bill that no one's read,
- 23:59Speaker 1: the five and forty seven pages long, filled with port
- 24:03Speaker 1: bell spending, and I want to reduce it. And we
- 24:05Speaker 1: did and condensed it into one hundred and eighteen pages
- 24:09Speaker 1: and excluded the extreme amount of pork that Johnson allowed
- 24:12Speaker 1: by the way in the original bill, Elon Musk is
- 24:15Speaker 1: not the President of the United States of America. But
- 24:18Speaker 1: what Elon Musk did was give a voice to the
- 24:20Speaker 1: voiceless in this country and those that don't have the
- 24:23Speaker 1: type of power to get the word out that he
- 24:27Speaker 1: clearly does. And the American people clearly agreed with him,
- 24:30Speaker 1: and the American people acted, and the American people called
- 24:33Speaker 1: their congressman, and the American people got rid literally, this
- 24:38Speaker 1: is not exaggeration, got rid of one thousand, three hundred
- 24:42Speaker 1: and fifty nine pages of government waste, abuse and fraud.
- 24:49Speaker 2: That is incredible. So was it worth it? Yes? Was
- 24:54Speaker 2: it anarchy? No?
- 24:56Speaker 1: Was it Elon Musk giving power to the people to
- 24:59Speaker 1: make sure that the people were able to do what
- 25:02Speaker 1: they need to do and saying no to mass suspending.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Now here's what you need to know about what they
- 25:11Speaker 1: have passed on the House side. And I'm going to
- 25:13Speaker 1: get to the Senate in a moment, because the Senate
- 25:15Speaker 1: is controlled, as you know, by the Democrats. Right now,
- 25:19Speaker 1: the bill will fund the government until March fourteenth. It
- 25:23Speaker 1: also includes disaster relief and farm aid, which is very important.
- 25:28Speaker 1: The bill does not include an extension of the debt limit,
- 25:32Speaker 1: which President elect Donald Trump demanded, that will place Johnson's
- 25:36Speaker 1: reelection on January third for Speaker in a very precarious position.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I want to be clear, I support Speaker Johnson, and
- 25:44Speaker 1: I think we would get a much more liberal speaker
- 25:46Speaker 1: if Speaker Johnson is pushed out. And I don't like
- 25:50Speaker 1: what we're doing right now. Every time somebody because there's
- 25:53Speaker 1: such a thin margin for Republicans that there's a lot
- 25:57Speaker 1: of power now given to certain members in Congress. And
- 25:59Speaker 1: I don't like where we're headed with this, because if
- 26:01Speaker 1: you don't like your one way or the way things
- 26:03Speaker 1: are going, the fact that you can get rid of
- 26:05Speaker 1: another speaker, I think is a very bad decision. I
- 26:07Speaker 1: also think the Speaker Johnson has done a very good job,
- 26:11Speaker 1: and I think you will serve Donald Trump very well,
- 26:15Speaker 1: much better than Kevin McCarthy would have ever done. And
- 26:18Speaker 1: if he's not careful, what's going to happen is you're
- 26:21Speaker 1: going to end up getting a more liberal member of
- 26:24Speaker 1: the body who would end up becoming the Speaker of
- 26:27Speaker 1: the House because they'll get some votes from Democrats to
- 26:29Speaker 1: do it more than likely, and then you'll lose an
- 26:32Speaker 1: actual conservative in Speaker Johnson. That's where we are now
- 26:36Speaker 1: with this. Now, let me also put it this way.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Punch Bowl News reported on the politics the latest proposed measure,
- 26:43Speaker 1: saying this Johnson is now pushing a short term funding
- 26:47Speaker 1: bill that keeps federal agencies open until mid March. The
- 26:51Speaker 1: bill would include a hundred billion in disaster aid for
- 26:53Speaker 1: the hurricane batter in southeast and other states. There's also
- 26:56Speaker 1: thirty billion in aid for farmers and a one year
- 27:00Speaker 1: extension of the current agriculture policy. The measure will be
- 27:04Speaker 1: taken up under suspicion according to senior GOP lawmakers and
- 27:07Speaker 1: AIDS meeting, meaning it needs a two third majority to pass.
- 27:12Speaker 1: There'll be one vote instead of individual votes on the
- 27:14Speaker 1: component parts as Johnson's first envisioned. Now what we know
- 27:20Speaker 1: is what happened. What we know now, it's very clear
- 27:24Speaker 1: this has past the House, and it's passed the House,
- 27:27Speaker 1: and it now is the sentence. And I'm going to
- 27:30Speaker 1: talk about that vote obviously in a moment. But what
- 27:33Speaker 1: I want you to understand is this Speaker Johnson was
- 27:37Speaker 1: able to get this bill to drop significantly in size
- 27:42Speaker 1: and save you the taxpayers, hundreds of billions of dollars.
- 27:47Speaker 1: The problem now is you're now going to have a
- 27:49Speaker 1: debt sealing vote come early next year, and that's going
- 27:53Speaker 1: to be under the Republican leadership and under Donald Trump.
- 27:56Speaker 1: There are many people that didn't want that, don't like it,
- 27:58Speaker 1: didn't want to have to deal with, and that's a
- 28:01Speaker 1: political issue that we're going to obviously have to deal with.
