Juneteenth Is Not About Guilt. It’s About Truth
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas finally received word that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This is not a day to sanitize America’s past, demonize the country, or turn history into another political weapon. It is a day to recognize the truth: America has extraordinary ideals, has often failed to live up to them, and is strongest when it confronts its failures instead of denying them.Freedom delayed is freedom denied. Celebrate Juneteenth for what it represents: redemption, resilience, and the capacity to become better.
