- 0:00Hello, and this is the Apocalypse Will Be Podcasted.
- 0:03We are a married couple from Atlanta with boring
- 0:05day jobs. We have been together 12 years, and
- 0:08we usually create a lot of weird performance
- 0:10art to entertain people. But we are trying our
- 0:13hand at having a podcast because we have had
- 0:16an obsession lately, and that obsession is Dungeon
- 0:20Crawler Carl. This is a spoilers podcast, and
- 0:23we will be discussing plot points from all seven
- 0:26Dungeon Crawler Carl books. You should not start
- 0:30this podcast until you have finished book seven.
- 0:33We will not be discussing anything from Patreon
- 0:36or the Pineapple Cabaret. There are spoilers
- 0:39from this point forward. Be warned. Wanted to
- 0:42jump in here at the beginning of the episode
- 0:44regarding the giveaway that we announced during
- 0:47last week's episode. And we were at MegaCon down
- 0:50in Orlando this weekend and we met a lot of amazing
- 0:53fans and fellow crawlers. And so we wanted to
- 0:59extend the giveaway until Wednesday, March 25th,
- 1:03because of the additional interest from people
- 1:06that we met this weekend. So the giveaway will
- 1:08be closing on Wednesday, March 25th at 10 p .m.
- 1:12Eastern Standard Time. So I'm starting to think
- 1:15that maybe crawlers can do anything if they're
- 1:18together. Are you getting that impression? No.
- 1:22Not at all. Where would you get that idea from?
- 1:24I don't know. Maybe because I think this is the
- 1:2510th time that this has been mentioned in 12
- 1:27chapters. Maybe more. I mean, former cookbook
- 1:31authors getting together. It's an impressive
- 1:34amount of skill and knowledge. I mean, not just
- 1:37cookbook authors, but all of these former crawlers
- 1:39who, as mentioned in the last chapter, survived
- 1:42faction wars, were victors of land wars or the
- 1:46Battle Royale. Like, it's very impressive. Yeah,
- 1:49and we start this chapter with a short entry
- 1:53in the cookbook from crawler Ithaca. Ithaca.
- 1:57This is what happens when you read with your
- 1:59eyes. You don't know how to pronounce shit. But
- 2:01he is wondering how the former crawler York is
- 2:06and if he survived. And we will find out about
- 2:09that in this book. Yes. And he talks about the
- 2:13unbearable loneliness. But he says that reading.
- 2:18what York wrote made him feel less alone and
- 2:22that he imagines if he could get back together
- 2:24with the other cookbook authors that they could
- 2:27do anything and that that loneliness would be
- 2:29done for him. Yeah. And it's interesting because
- 2:32so Akecho says that his people were castrated
- 2:36and cast out, whereas York came from a hive.
- 2:40But York said that he still felt alone his entire
- 2:43life. is interesting. And I think that there's
- 2:46always this sense of camaraderie between the
- 2:50various cookbook authors. And it seems like all
- 2:53of them kind of have at least one other author
- 2:55that they kind of hone in on as like a special
- 2:59interest of theirs. I would also say that just
- 3:01from what we've read in the books, being a hive
- 3:03mind doesn't seem all it's cracked up to be.
- 3:05No, it sure doesn't. I mean, it also seems like
- 3:09whenever you have these mentions of these hives,
- 3:12that a lot of the individuals still operate with
- 3:16a level of autonomy that is kind of antithetical
- 3:19to being part of a hive mind or a collective
- 3:22that's a bit of a digression oh well i was about
- 3:26to go on a huge digression fuck yeah let's do
- 3:29it so actually in the book anamorphs which is
- 3:32a major deep dive so if you don't remember those
- 3:35were the books that got basically every 90s kid
- 3:38super into reading if it wasn't goosebumps I
- 3:41read Goosebumps. I read some of them. I never
- 3:43read Animorphs. Animorphs are these super dark
- 3:48books about fighting fascism. For children. For
- 3:54children, yes. Well, for tweens. But that's children.
- 3:59In Animorphs, an alien actually comes to Earth
- 4:03and gives a group of kids the power to turn into
- 4:07any animal that they touch. Like changelings.
- 4:11But so that they can fight the fascist aliens
- 4:14that are coming there. Okay, okay. Who are actually
- 4:17basically like the Valte, where they take over
- 4:19people's brains. And that is considered very
- 4:22evil in the Animorphs book. I mean, I consider
- 4:24that evil. Yes. Although the Valte usually do
- 4:27it consensually. Yeah, they do. But there's actually,
- 4:31in one of the Animorphs books, they turn into
- 4:33ants. And they say that the experience of being
- 4:37part of the hive mind is so traumatic for them
- 4:40that they are never doing that again. And like
- 4:43half the book is like them processing their trauma
- 4:45from being ants. Very interesting. Yeah, go read
- 4:49Animorphs. They're super good books. But unfortunately,
- 4:52my mom's the manager of a bookstore. They are
- 4:54out of print. So you have to get them off eBay.
- 4:56But they are like super hardcore, like very adult
- 5:02themes. excellent books that are kind of maybe
- 5:05on a second, third grade level. Okay. Interesting.
- 5:08And I assume they're not rare collector's items
- 5:11where there'd be like $500 a book. I don't think
- 5:14so. Although my mom did make a face when I suggested
- 5:17trying to track some down for one of my cousins.
- 5:19Okay. Okay. Yeah. I just remember seeing the
- 5:22covers of them a lot. And even like in kind of
- 5:25the last past several years, I feel like. The
- 5:28covers kind of became a meme at some point. I'm
- 5:30not really sure why, but it was used in some
- 5:33kind of meme context around the interwebs. The
- 5:37covers are kind of goofy, but like I said, I
- 5:40cannot describe how dark the theme of these books
- 5:42are. You should really read them. They're very
- 5:45good. Okay. I will once I am done filming 200
- 5:50episodes of a podcast. Recording, filming. We're
- 5:53going to add video to this at some point. Now
- 5:55that we have finished that gigantic digression,
- 5:58Akita's chapter ends with, I pray you seek out
- 6:01the others who came before. It is a dream. Can
- 6:04you imagine? Together, there would be nothing
- 6:06we couldn't do. Nothing. We get a check -in on
- 6:10the timeline of the ceasefire. There is 52 hours
- 6:14left, and that means that only 8 hours have passed
- 6:20since Chapter 1, and we are now at Chapter 12.
- 6:24Oh, that's pretty crazy, because I would have
- 6:25sworn opening those boxes took, like, four years.
- 6:28Yeah. No, I mean, I think it goes pretty quick,
- 6:31honestly, because they can kind of spam through
- 6:34them, I think. Like, only, like, the Platinum
- 6:36and, like, Legendary and Celestial boxes have
- 6:38this huge fanfare. When you're just getting a
- 6:40Silver Adventurer box with Trench Scrolls and
- 6:43Healing Potions, AI isn't giving long diatribes
- 6:47about... this trench scroll it's probably just
- 6:49like plus five trench scroll plus ten health
- 6:52potions and then the next box opens I mean it
- 6:55would be in line with just the way a lot of like
- 6:57video games work and of a similar style like
- 7:00at some point there's a way where you can just
- 7:01kind of spam through certain things and just
- 7:03like hold the space bar or like hit escape or
- 7:06enter and it just spams through it so there's
- 7:09gotta be a way probably doesn't know half of
- 7:11what he got in the boxes because you probably
- 7:12didn't read the notifications off I would I would
- 7:15also guess that there is probably in his inventory
- 7:17a recently acquired tab or a way to filter. You
- 7:21think he read that either? Yeah, probably. I
- 7:23mean, he wants to have a general idea of what
- 7:25he's gotten. He knows and understands that those
- 7:27build trend scrolls are going to be important.
- 7:29He actually doesn't. He says, and we covered
- 7:32this in a previous chapter, for some reason we
- 7:35got a ton of those, which I called out then that
- 7:37I thought that was silly. We've got that timeline.
- 7:41And then right here at the beginning of the chapter,
- 7:43it lets us know, warning, there is a red alert
- 7:46occursion into your territory. Enter the flag
- 7:48room to see the details. And this is kind of
- 7:51like a mini red herring because you think like,
- 7:53oh gosh, what's it going to be? What's happening?
- 7:55And it's basically a non -event of it's just
- 7:58some mobs. Yeah, they just basically have to
- 8:00dispatch whoever needs to level up to go deal
- 8:03with it. Pretty much. And then it says that...
- 8:08They left Imani behind to train in her magic
- 8:10room. Mistress Tiatha was showing her some new
- 8:13things that she wanted to work on. So basically
- 8:16that means that the last chapter, she was there,
- 8:20she just didn't say anything. And we had to go
- 8:22back and check that. Was she even in the last
- 8:25chapter? When did they leave her behind? When
- 8:27they first got to the guild hall, they mentioned
- 8:30that she was there. But then basically the entire
- 8:33conversation with the former crawlers coming
- 8:36back in. Imani just didn't say anything. She
- 8:38was just there observing, monitoring, doing her
- 8:41due diligence. Maybe she was taking notes. I
- 8:43don't know. I think it kind of makes sense for
- 8:45Imani because I think that she just like kind
- 8:47of sits back and absorbs things. Whereas everyone
- 8:51else was super confused. Yeah, she is. I feel
- 8:54like a bit of a wallflower. Well, I think that
- 8:57she's someone who just like stays quiet and processes
- 9:00things until she has formed an opinion a lot
- 9:02of the time. I think she's very slow to act.
- 9:04And I think that. That's something that is very
- 9:08useful for their team. Yeah. So they go out through
- 9:11a safe room, which is a tiny bait shop, which
- 9:15is just big enough for three people and a cat.
- 9:19Yeah, and they leave this tiny bait shop safe
- 9:22room and come out into the area outside around
- 9:26their home base. And we get some nice descriptions
- 9:29of the scenery. It sounds very nice. It's these
- 9:32rolling meadows with majestic... flowers and
- 9:36grass and there's a small lake. Sounds very nice.
- 9:40I think it just hit hard because it's miserable
- 9:42here right now. It is miserable, but it is 25
- 9:46degrees currently while we are recording. Yes.
- 9:48I mean, a lot of the U .S. is by the time you
- 9:52hear this episode, it's probably going to be
- 9:54starting to warm up. But unless you're in Minnesota,
- 9:58in which case, I'm sorry. Yeah, but we're recording
- 10:02this at the end of January and it's pretty miserable.
- 10:04What I wanted to kind of talk about here is basically
- 10:07Matt does a lot of world building and a lot of
- 10:11descriptions of, you know, the environment and
- 10:13the scenery, which I think is common for any
- 10:16author to do. But in this, in La Rocos, in the
- 10:20fields of action wars, like he makes a point
- 10:23of describing how beautiful everything is, even
- 10:25this field that their base is in. And I think
- 10:29that that's kind of drawing the parallel of what's
- 10:33to come. And the destruction of beauty that is
- 10:36there. Yeah, definitely. And that's still calling
- 10:39back to the cookbook author who lost his shit
- 10:43over Loracos getting destroyed. But it says that
- 10:46everyone seems like they're working hard but
- 10:49having a good time. Everyone's chatting and laughing
- 10:53as they're working and building stuff, which
- 10:55is nice. Well, I just can't imagine the war stories
- 10:58that are getting traded. Yeah, I mean... Obviously,
- 11:01you know, they know that they've come into a
- 11:03very dangerous situation, but I imagine there
- 11:07is a lot of camaraderie of, yeah, being together,
- 11:11being around so many former crawlers in one place
- 11:13at one time. Being excited to talk about their
- 11:16crawl. Their crawl or their experience. Since
- 11:19then, like, they have a lot of shared experiences
- 11:22and shared trauma to share together, basically.
- 11:26And this is probably the largest collection of...
- 11:29Former crawlers at one place in the entire history
- 11:33of this galaxy, like ever. Yeah, it does seem
- 11:37like a good time. Also, testing walls by throwing
- 11:41fireballs at them while they are building them
- 11:43sounds super fun. Fun and efficient. Very efficient,
- 11:47yeah. Which Carl notes that and thinks that is
- 11:50very clever and wise to be doing so. They're
- 11:52also building multiple towers and burning through
- 11:55those build trench scrolls. Which they're using
- 12:00all these build trench scrolls, but I'm not really
- 12:03clear where they got them from because they don't
- 12:08get achievements or loot boxes. So I'm not really
- 12:12clear where they got the build trench scrolls
- 12:14from and they're very expensive to buy. Well,
- 12:19they also said that the shops were pretty wiped
- 12:21out. But what I am thinking is that they kind
- 12:26of go over some of the experience that the former
- 12:28crawlers have later in this episode. They might
- 12:31have someone who can create them. Yeah, they
- 12:33do mention later like they have some alchemists
- 12:35and some engineers and such. So maybe they can
- 12:38make them. They did say that like a lot of these
- 12:40supplies have been getting made. But being able
- 12:42to make... or craft a build Trench Scroll. Sounds
- 12:46kind of OP. Well, they said that they had the
- 12:48former head of, I believe, the Alchemist Guild.
- 12:53Enchantment Guild. Enchantment Guild, yeah. So
- 12:55they had the former head of the Enchantment Guild,
- 12:57so that might be within his wheelhouse. It could
- 13:00be. So Florin is, again, setting up their army
- 13:04and assigning roles to everybody, and he does
- 13:06find out that there is a limit to how many officers
- 13:10they can have. I'm not of... military knowledge
- 13:14and expertise. So like having the rankings of
- 13:17officers, sergeants, generals, corporals, like
- 13:20I'm not very clear on that. But he does say not
- 13:24everyone can be an officer. He makes a lot of
- 13:27the construction guys and former crawlers, sergeants
- 13:30and chief, which allows them to alter the camp.
- 13:33Obviously very important for what they're doing.
- 13:35And everyone else is a legionnaire, which is
- 13:38basically like a ground level like infantry.
- 13:41And then corporals are leading individual teams.
- 13:45Carl asks here, he's like, it says there's an
- 13:48incursion into the territory. And if it tells
- 13:51them it's mobs, you know, when they made the
- 13:53floor bigger. Now we have some hunting to do,
- 13:56but we need to decide who to send because there's
- 13:58only so much experience to go around. Yeah, definitely.
- 14:01And they need to get some people leveled more
- 14:04than others. And this is just kind of a silly
- 14:06thing. Rind ate off one of Carl's hair ties.
- 14:10This is extremely dangerous for cats, but since
- 14:13he's a meatball, he's fine. So at this point,
- 14:16they're kind of walking around and everyone starts
- 14:20to notice Carl and Donut and people are getting
- 14:22excited and they're coming up to greet them.
- 14:25Donut gets equal attention this time, so she
- 14:28is quite pleased with that, but still bewildered.
- 14:30Yeah, like people are coming up and petting Donut,
- 14:32which again, like I love that everyone just knows
- 14:35like it's okay to like. touch her she's a cat
- 14:38pet her totally cool that's what she wants they're
- 14:41bowing to her bowing's a little bit weird it's
- 14:44again it's it's funny because she's a cat you
- 14:46know petting her totally that's normal that's
- 14:48what you should be doing bowing to her that's
- 14:50a little strange then this gigantic man named
- 14:53pin comes up and picks carl up off the ground
- 14:56and then gives him a big old bear hug and then
- 14:59puts him down and kisses him on both cheeks and
- 15:02this gives us the quote of the week which is
- 15:04Carl, why is everyone kissing you all of a sudden?
- 15:07That's like the third person in an hour. You're
- 15:09going to get mono. Donut's kind of on a roll.
- 15:11Our quote of the week for next week is also from
- 15:14Donut. We've been putting together a list of
- 15:16the best quotes and it just keeps getting bigger
- 15:19and longer and it's fantastic. I do feel like
- 15:23here, Donut's concern of mono, maybe not entirely
- 15:26valid, but also I feel like if that did happen,
- 15:30it wouldn't be mono. It would be like... Double
- 15:33extreme flaming mono of the eyeballs or something.
- 15:38She probably shouldn't have mentioned mono in
- 15:40front of the eye. Yes. Don't be given that thing
- 15:43any ideas. So everyone is starting to gather
- 15:46around Carl and Donut. And Penn starts pumping
- 15:51his arm up in the air and saying, Hup, hup. And
- 15:54then everyone starts doing it. And there's thousands
- 15:57of people that are chanting, Hup, hup, hup. And
- 16:02Carl has a quote that I want to read, which is,
- 16:06The sound was deafening, but it was more, too.
- 16:10It was terrifying. The ground shook. I felt a
- 16:15deep well of pride at that sound, that chant.
- 16:18In less than three days, we'd all be waist -deep
- 16:21in blood. A lot of us would be dead. But for
- 16:24now, this war cry filled me with hope and power.
- 16:28This is another silly digression, but I am like
- 16:31really uncomfortable when people start chanting
- 16:34like, huh, huh, huh. Like it's just so like masculine
- 16:38and weird. And I'm glad from Atlanta where we
- 16:41chant ATL ho at stuff. Yes. So at concerts and
- 16:46shows and stuff and a lot of other places, they
- 16:49go like, oh. or like something like that in Atlanta.
- 16:53And we say, ATL, ho, what? ATL, ho. And a lot
- 16:57of EDM DJs that come and play shows at Atlanta
- 17:01say that they love that we say that. And it's
- 17:04one of the reasons they love playing shows at
- 17:06Atlanta so much. It's definitely much better
- 17:08than the weird and militaristic. chanting so
- 17:12yes and just so everyone is aware that mostly
- 17:15happens at edm shows and like hip -hop shows
- 17:18that's not happening at like punk or like metal
- 17:22shows i have never seen it happen at any kind
- 17:25of standard concert i would say i've seen it
- 17:27happen at some pop shows but that is beside the
- 17:30point anyway oh look here we are in a whole new
- 17:32conversation after this quote tippet says this
- 17:36is for you this is what you built and it's all
- 17:39over and back to work All over. Yep. Back to
- 17:42work. Everyone starts going about their day,
- 17:44doing what they're doing, building fortifications.
- 17:48Well, and earlier in the chapter, a wall fell
- 17:51over and it got stuck in the ground. So Florin
- 17:54summons another crocodile from his card to help.
- 17:58And it's huge and really strong. And the card
- 18:03system from the eighth floor is over at this
- 18:05point. And both Carl and I say, thank God. But
- 18:10you can still summon your favorite card for a
- 18:12short time, once a day. So the other crocodile
- 18:14is Florin's favorite card. He gets the wall taken
- 18:17care of. I mean, the crocodile almost single
- 18:19-handedly gets it back up in place. And then,
- 18:21you know, people come and kind of help put it
- 18:23in its final position. And then it does a cute
- 18:25little hop before it pops away, which I just
- 18:28love that. Yeah, Carl says it's cute like Mongo.
- 18:31Very cute. I'm just imagining this like... 26
- 18:34foot long gigantic crocodile doing a little hippie
- 18:38hop and being all excited that it put a wall
- 18:40back up. Very cute. Great mental image. I can't
- 18:43wait to see that in the TV show. Woo buddy. Whenever
- 18:47that. I hope it gets a full seven seasons. We
- 18:49will see. I mean honestly I mean if they did
- 18:52one season per book like if we could get seven
- 18:55seasons that would be great but honestly like
- 18:57with the amount of content that there is I think
- 18:59they could stretch a TV show out further than
- 19:01that but. You know how it goes with TV shows
- 19:03these days. Well, I'm sure Mr. Seth MacFarlane
- 19:06will do a great job. I am sure he will. And I
- 19:09know Matt has a pretty reasonable level of creative
- 19:13input as the author, which he did talk about
- 19:16in a panel we were at at DragonCon. So I am optimistic
- 19:20on having that knowledge. So the NPCs have been
- 19:23working on building the fortifications, but they
- 19:25didn't understand the safe room rules. So things
- 19:28are having to be adjusted at this point. Yeah,
- 19:31they didn't like understand how important the
- 19:33safe rooms were. So they didn't like build any
- 19:36fortifications, keeping that in mind that they
- 19:38need to keep access to the safe room safe and
- 19:42secure so that the crawlers aren't cut off from
- 19:44that and then be cut off from being able to access
- 19:47their personal space or guild halls. They also
- 19:50need to be able to land party planner on it.
- 19:52Yes. Yeah, being able to have their airport is
- 19:55extremely important as well. But luckily they
- 19:59have a few. thousand purification engineers and
- 20:02they can level up by doing construction. Which
- 20:04is extremely handy. We haven't seen any other
- 20:07classes that level up via non -combat methods.
- 20:13That's not true. Imani levels up from healing.
- 20:15Yeah, I mean, I guess that makes sense. I think
- 20:17Katya also is able to level while she's building
- 20:20things. So I think that there is some precedence
- 20:22for this. Yes, definitely. So Tipped, you know,
- 20:27kind of keeps... explaining to Carl giving us
- 20:30what is it called exposition exposition no I
- 20:33like calling it info dumps yes so Tippett is
- 20:35info dumping all of this and explaining to Carl
- 20:38what's going on so Tippett tells Carl that there
- 20:41have been some changes to safe room rules basically
- 20:45they are back to the blood bar system and mercenaries
- 20:49are not going to have access to Safe rooms and
- 20:53then all the former crawlers and the other warlords
- 20:56and stuff aren't just going to be able to camp
- 20:58out in safe rooms and avoid conflict and just
- 21:02hide. Well, nobody can hide out in safe rooms
- 21:05because the blood bar rules are back into effect.
- 21:09Right. But they do have to have barracks for
- 21:12the former crawlers because they cannot go into
- 21:14the safe rooms. So those are also currently being
- 21:16built. Yes. Yeah. I mean, barracks, they got
- 21:19to have somewhere to lay down and sleep and rest
- 21:21and recuperate. And Tippett does make a note
- 21:24that this is unfortunate because they can't keep
- 21:26basically people in reserve and just have them
- 21:29kind of back and safe. Carl asks Tippett if he
- 21:34is considered a mercenary and Tippett explains,
- 21:37yes, he is. They're not going to have access
- 21:38to the safe rooms and says Carl should ask their
- 21:42adjutant for more details on the specifics of
- 21:44that. But he also says that. He only gets level
- 21:48notifications and has access to messaging. None
- 21:52of the achievements and all that weird stuff.
- 21:54Thank the gods. I'm sure that all the former
- 21:57crawlers are glad they don't have to put up with
- 21:59the insane AI and its unhinged nonsense. That
- 22:03definitely seems like a relief for them. Yeah,
- 22:05and then Carl kind of gives us some more observations
- 22:07about Tepid. He doesn't seem to be several thousand
- 22:11years old. He's just goofy and free spirited
- 22:14and reminds Carl of his friend Sam that he misses
- 22:18a lot. And Carl says that Tippett does seem less
- 22:22haunted than he does in his cookbook entries.
- 22:25And he seems very relieved about that. He's definitely
- 22:30maybe done some therapy in the last several thousand
- 22:32years. And I like this point of reference of
- 22:36timeline. that Carl says he must be several thousand
- 22:39years old because we've definitely like talked
- 22:42a few times in prior episodes of like how much
- 22:44time has passed. I've said like several hundred
- 22:46years or a thousand years, but several thousand
- 22:49years is insane. And that's just since Tippid's
- 22:55time in the dungeon. And that also gives you
- 23:00an interesting timeline of the cookbook. And
- 23:03so Carl's the author of the 25th edition of the
- 23:06cookbook. And so the cookbook doesn't show up
- 23:08every season. Correct. It only shows up occasionally
- 23:12when I guess the system AI decides that there
- 23:17is someone who kind of meets the criteria of
- 23:21the type of personality, the type of person who
- 23:24wants to burn it all down, who has that fuck
- 23:27you all kind of feeling and personality. Well,
- 23:31and I might be wrong, but I think it only shows
- 23:33up in Dungeon Crawler World. I don't think it
- 23:34shows up in like Battle Royale. Yeah, but still,
- 23:38I would guess that there could maybe be like
- 23:4110 seasons where the cookbook just doesn't show
- 23:44up. And so it is interesting that there's this
- 23:48kind of criteria, so to speak, shared between
- 23:52different AIs to decide when a crawler is going
- 23:58to be chosen to receive the cookbook. It doesn't
- 24:01just happen randomly. Yeah, that is interesting.
- 24:04Maybe a bit long -winded, but interesting. Yeah,
- 24:07we've talked a lot about the different authors
- 24:09of the cookbooks and my thought process and opinion
- 24:12of it has been developing as we've been recording
- 24:15and researching. At first, I was kind of like,
- 24:17oh, wow, look at Porthis and Carl. They have
- 24:21the same like, fuck you all, burn it all down
- 24:24to the ground. But like all of the cookbook authors
- 24:26have that. It is a defining characteristic of
- 24:29being a cookbook author and being eligible to
- 24:33receive it. It is. Where are we going from here
- 24:35after yet another digression? But Carl does say
- 24:39that if you know where to look for it, you can
- 24:42see the tension and anger in Tippett and it's
- 24:46just below the surface. I think that's adequate
- 24:49or true for everyone, honestly. But it is interesting
- 24:54because we see this with a lot of former crawlers
- 24:57throughout this book that are hundreds or thousands
- 24:59of years old, but they still... behave almost
- 25:02like teenagers in some cases, which I find very
- 25:05interesting. Well, you know, there is a theory
- 25:07in our society, which is that people stop maturing
- 25:12once they get famous. So like they say people
- 25:15like Tom Cruise are permanently stuck at 21,
- 25:17which is when he, you know, really blew up as
- 25:20an actor because they're not really forced to
- 25:22grow after that. Yeah. I mean, you're not forced
- 25:24to grow. And there's also I can't say exactly
- 25:28how much of this is. true in you know the universe
- 25:31of dungeon crawler carl but as a tom cruise for
- 25:34example or other famous actor you also have this
- 25:38expectation of like what people know you for
- 25:41and so there's kind of this sense of feeling
- 25:44like you need to stick to this certain personality
- 25:47type so i think both those things you know are
- 25:50factors in that i do i also think that carl has
- 25:53been on a digression here just like we often
- 25:56go on digressions So they're back to talking
- 25:59about safe room rules. And so basically the rules
- 26:03change of reinstituting the blood bars has hurt
- 26:08the operatics and the Naga the most is they like
- 26:12to hide as opposed to actually fighting. Yeah,
- 26:15we don't really see this hurt them directly too
- 26:18much. You know, at least in the case of the Nagas,
- 26:20I don't think it interferes with their plans.
- 26:23Might have gone differently from them if they
- 26:25could hide. Who knows? Yeah, at least some of
- 26:27them. Because they get to some of the Nagas a
- 26:29little bit easier than the others, a .k .a. the
- 26:33sepsis whore. Yeah, and of course, as soon as
- 26:37someone mentions the Naga, Carl wants to go after
- 26:39them first. He's like, all right, speaking of
- 26:42which, we need to focus in on them first. And
- 26:44Tippin's like, yeah, yeah, I figured you'd say
- 26:46that. Yeah, but we need to be a little bit more
- 26:48strategic than that. We know that's what you
- 26:51want. They've got some good theories as to how
- 26:55to approach that, but not relevant to start getting
- 26:58into that right now. And then Mongo starts acting
- 27:01kind of weird, making some weird noises. He's
- 27:04kind of moving around strange and donuts like,
- 27:06Carl, what did you do? Why is Mongo acting weird?
- 27:08And then they find big ass door and the amount
- 27:12of detail that they go into about how big this
- 27:17door is, is a little insane. Yes. Carl says it
- 27:21looked. as if it'd been hammered into shape by
- 27:24a blind and drunk metalsmith, which I love that
- 27:27description. And they go into AI gives a whole
- 27:30description of cumbersome door. These are in
- 27:33the enchantments that has blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 27:35blah. And I do think that part of that is explaining
- 27:39the mechanics of fortifications of their base,
- 27:42like how these things work. And with the enchantments,
- 27:45that is very important for the rest of this book,
- 27:48because those things do come into play to a very
- 27:51In a very serious way. Definitely. It's still
- 27:53funny when you're dealing with an actual chapter,
- 27:56though, that has like a page and a half detailing
- 27:58Cavagadoras. Yeah. And how hard it is to open.
- 28:01Yeah. But they do get it open. They sure do.
- 28:05And as Pippet and Carl are grunting to open it,
- 28:08Carl says that Rend is on his shoulder and he
- 28:11is also making grunting noises as if he is helping,
- 28:14which is flippin' adorable. That is very adorable.
- 28:17Super cute. He is a big help, okay? So the doors
- 28:21are trying to get them open. And then all of
- 28:23a sudden they burst open and big Tina comes out.
- 28:28And everyone's like, oh shit, she's out again.
- 28:32Well, one would think that solving the quest
- 28:34would mean that she'd be less of a problem than
- 28:36she was before. I mean, she is. She doesn't come
- 28:38out and just start eating everyone. She's just
- 28:39hopping around and being excited, which is totally
- 28:43valid. It is very valid. And that's where this
- 28:46chapter ends. Next chapter is going to be a lot
- 28:49of fun. And with that, this chapter comes to
- 28:52a close and we look forward to having you join
- 28:55us next week when Baroness Victory finally makes
- 28:58an appearance. Yay, she's my favorite character.
