- 0:00John Chapter 9 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth,
- 0:05and his disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned this man or
- 0:09his parents, that he would be born blind.
- 0:12Jesus answered it was neither that this man sin nor his
- 0:15parents, but it was so that the works of God might be displayed
- 0:18in him. We must work the works of him
- 0:21who sent me. As long as it is day, night is
- 0:24coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am
- 0:28the light of the world. When he had said this, he spat
- 0:31on the ground and made clay of the spittle and applied the clay
- 0:34to his eyes and said to him, Go wash in the pool of Siloam,
- 0:39which is translated scent. So he went away and washed and
- 0:43came back. Seeing therefore the neighbors,
- 0:46those who previously saw him as a beggar were saying, is not
- 0:49this the one who used to sit and beg?
- 0:51Others were saying this is he. Still others were saying no, but
- 0:55he is like him. He kept saying, I am the one.
- 0:59So they were saying to him, How then were your eyes opened?
- 1:02He answered, The man who is called Jesus made clay and
- 1:05anointed my eyes and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash.
- 1:09So I went away and washed, and I received sight.
- 1:12They said to him, Where is he? He said, I do not know.
- 1:16They brought to the Pharisees the man who was formerly blind.
- 1:20Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay and
- 1:22opened his eyes. Then the Pharisees also were
- 1:25asking him again how he received His sight.
- 1:27And he said to them, He applied clay to my eyes, and I washed,
- 1:30and I see. Therefore some of the Pharisees
- 1:33were saying, this man is not from God because he does not
- 1:36keep the Sabbath. But others were saying, How can
- 1:39a man who is a Sinner perform such signs?
- 1:42There was a division among them. So they said to the blind man
- 1:45again, What do you say about him since he opened your eyes?
- 1:49And he said, He is a prophet. The Jews did not believe it of
- 1:52him that he had been blind and had received sight, until they
- 1:55called the parents of the very one who had received his sight,
- 1:58and questioned them, saying, Is this your son who you say was
- 2:01born blind? Then how does he now see?
- 2:05His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our
- 2:08son, and that he was born blind, but how he now sees we do not
- 2:12know, or who opened his eyes we do not know.
- 2:15Ask him he is of age, he will speak for himself.
- 2:18His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews,
- 2:21for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed him to
- 2:23be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.
- 2:26For this reason his parents said, He is of age, ask him.
- 2:30So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said
- 2:32to him, Give glory to God. We know that this man is a
- 2:35Sinner. He then answered, Whether he is
- 2:38a Sinner I do not know. One thing I do know that though
- 2:41I was blind now I see. So they said to him, What did he
- 2:46do to you? How did he open your eyes?
- 2:48He answered them, I told you already, and you did not listen.
- 2:52Why do you want to hear it again?
- 2:53You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?
- 2:56They reviled him and said, You are his disciple.
- 2:59But we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to
- 3:02Moses, but As for this man, we do not know where he is from.
- 3:07The man answered and said to them, Well here is an amazing
- 3:10thing that you do not know where he is from, and yet he opened my
- 3:14eyes. We know that God does not hear
- 3:16sinners, but if anyone is God fearing and does His will, He
- 3:20hears Him. Since the beginning of time it
- 3:22has never been heard that anyone open the eyes of a person born
- 3:25blind. If this man were not from God,
- 3:28he could do nothing. They answered him, You were born
- 3:31entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?
- 3:34So they put him out. Jesus heard that they had put
- 3:37him out, and finding him he said, Do you believe in the Son
- 3:40of Man? He answered, Who is he, Lord,
- 3:43that I may believe in Him? Jesus said to him, You have both
- 3:46seen him, and He is the one who is talking to you.
- 3:49And he said, Lord, I believe, and he worshipped him.
- 3:53And Jesus said for judgement, I came into this world so that
- 3:57those who do not see may see, that those who see may become
- 4:01blind. Those of the Pharisees who were
- 4:03with him heard these things and said to him, We are not blind
- 4:06too, are we? Jesus said to them, if you were
- 4:09blind you would have no sin, but since you say we see, your sin
- 4:15remains.
