- 1:24Speaker 1: My next guest is a tattoo autist and a return
- 1:27Speaker 1: returning guest because the first time you know she, she
- 1:30Speaker 1: heard of me. I heard of her because I see
- 1:31Speaker 1: her on TV and all that good stuff. But this
- 1:34Speaker 1: time we have a relationship because I'm going out the
- 1:35Speaker 1: l a next week. I'm dropping by the shop. She's
- 1:38Speaker 1: a painter, entrepreneur for latropists, and social media influencer and
- 1:42Speaker 1: has opened her own tattoo shop in Los Angeles called
- 1:46Speaker 1: Enigma Tattoo earlier this summer in June. Please welcome back
- 1:50Speaker 1: to money Bag Conversations. I'm proud to say that cat
- 1:54Speaker 1: tat what's her girl? Hey? Hey, thank you so much
- 1:57Speaker 1: for having me again come a lot way. So the
- 2:00Speaker 1: last time we talked, I know, let's talk about that's
- 2:03Speaker 1: what I'm happy to happen. You're back on the show
- 2:04Speaker 1: and everything, because you know, that's when I when I
- 2:07Speaker 1: when you know, it's always a journey with everything. That's
- 2:09Speaker 1: that's the proximly about seven months ago when we talked,
- 2:12Speaker 1: about eight months ago, when we talked and and you
- 2:15Speaker 1: was finding yourself, you was making some decisions and you're
- 2:18Speaker 1: doing great things, but you seem to be not not
- 2:21Speaker 1: what you wanted to be at that moment. So let's
- 2:23Speaker 1: talk about that journey where yet right now? I love
- 2:26Speaker 1: first of all, I can tell there's a difference in
- 2:28Speaker 1: your tone and your energy. You feel really not saying
- 2:32Speaker 1: you're a negative person, but your spirit seems right. Thank you,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you know, I really really appreciate that. Um. I've been
- 2:38Speaker 1: out in Los Angeles for almost two years now, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: it was a lot of just figuring it out. Once
- 2:44Speaker 1: you just kind of step out on faith and moved
- 2:46Speaker 1: to an entire new city not knowing you know too
- 2:49Speaker 1: many people. It's a it's a big risk. So it
- 2:51Speaker 1: took me a while to get it figured out and um,
- 2:54Speaker 1: finally I feel like I got my purpose back, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 1: being a tachtoo artist my entire adult life since I
- 2:59Speaker 1: was a team me. Finally having my own tattoo shop
- 3:03Speaker 1: just puts everything in perspective for me, and I feel
- 3:06Speaker 1: like I'm actually moving forward now instead of running in circles.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Now that then you live that out rather smoothly, my
- 3:13Speaker 1: own tattoo shop, because we didn't even talk about that
- 3:16Speaker 1: eight months ago. That was that in the process eight
- 3:20Speaker 1: months ago. It's weird, Like I said, IVE been tattooing
- 3:22Speaker 1: for so long. Um, like, tattooing is just my my
- 3:26Speaker 1: passion and that's what I do. And I am so
- 3:29Speaker 1: focused on creating and just figuring out, you know, where
- 3:33Speaker 1: I wanted to live with you know, the TV showing
- 3:35Speaker 1: so much happening. At one time, I felt like I
- 3:38Speaker 1: didn't even really have the time to think about to
- 3:40Speaker 1: put together a plan like Okay, I'm gonna move here
- 3:43Speaker 1: and open up my shop. Like it really just it's
- 3:46Speaker 1: set on my spirit when when I felt like it
- 3:48Speaker 1: was the right time, you know, so it it took
- 3:52Speaker 1: me a long time, but like I once I felt like, okay,
- 3:55Speaker 1: now this is time for me to pursue this. Um,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I went and looked at spaces and you know, started
- 4:00Speaker 1: putting the piece together as to what it would take
- 4:03Speaker 1: and then UM, from there just started rolling. So it
- 4:06Speaker 1: was really like a six month process from you know
- 4:09Speaker 1: actually yeah, but the trade was so UM has been
- 4:13Speaker 1: there for so long that we got we gotta brand.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You gotta brand. You have a following, So that's what
- 4:19Speaker 1: helps in social media, helps you out, help help you
- 4:22Speaker 1: make that decision to open as well, didn't it. Yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 1: absolutely absolutely. I mean just being a tattoo artist, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 1: there's no bigger platform that you can ask for, from
- 4:31Speaker 1: a national TV show to you know, hundreds of thousands
- 4:35Speaker 1: of followers on Instagram. It's like it's a blessing that
- 4:37Speaker 1: you can't take for granted and you gotta take full
- 4:40Speaker 1: advantage of it. And you have been. So let's talk
- 4:43Speaker 1: about this whole process because my show Money Making Conversation
- 4:46Speaker 1: is about entrepreneurship. It's about people making that decision that
- 4:50Speaker 1: you made. Like you said, eight months ago, are we
- 4:53Speaker 1: discussed you was talking, you didn't bring up the idea
- 4:55Speaker 1: that I was going to open my own tattoo shop
- 4:57Speaker 1: in Los Angeles called Enigma tattoo. Now I lived in
- 5:01Speaker 1: Los Angeles fifteen years. Where about is it? So I
- 5:04Speaker 1: can you can you can talk to me. Wasn't you
- 5:07Speaker 1: open the shop? And where are the locations? And why
- 5:09Speaker 1: you chose this location? Um, it's Beverly Hills areas right
- 5:14Speaker 1: on the corner of Pico and Robertson and anybody, yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 1: everybody that is from here that comes by there, like, man,
- 5:22Speaker 1: you couldn't have picked a better location. So it took
- 5:26Speaker 1: me a long time to figure out the location I lived.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I used to live in North Hollywood, and I didn't
- 5:31Speaker 1: want to do it your way away. If that's a
- 5:34Speaker 1: that's a one on one, that's one on one north right,
- 5:38Speaker 1: howd uh? Um? North Hollywood? Yeah, I think so, but
- 5:43Speaker 1: I'm not there anymore. I moved close to to the shop,
- 5:45Speaker 1: but yes, and then I looked in Culver City, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: I looked on Mail Roads, where every other spot was
- 5:52Speaker 1: a tattoo shop, and none of it felt right to me.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So I was actually going to get my hair done.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Um at this salone in that area, and I'm looking around,
- 6:00Speaker 1: I'm like, what area is this? And then so I
- 6:02Speaker 1: just drove all up and down Pico and I wrote
- 6:05Speaker 1: down the phone number to all the vacant spots, and
- 6:07Speaker 1: there was one that just looked like it had so
- 6:09Speaker 1: much potential to me. So I went, I looked through
- 6:11Speaker 1: the window, I wrote down the number, called, got the
- 6:15Speaker 1: prices and everything, and then from there I connected with
- 6:18Speaker 1: the commercial rotor and he just closed the deal for
- 6:22Speaker 1: me and everything went smooth from there. So this is
- 6:26Speaker 1: so cool. So I know, Pico Robinson, that's the location
- 6:29Speaker 1: of Enigma Tattoo that's owned by Cat tat Cat. Let's
- 6:33Speaker 1: talk about this so because it was really a cool conversation.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So do you have any employees? Are you there by yourself? How?
- 6:40Speaker 1: How was working there? What's going on? Oh? No, absolutely?
- 6:43Speaker 1: There are six of us total, six amazing. Um. Sounded
- 6:47Speaker 1: like a TV show to me, sound like a TV show.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I will take that. So I'm not mad about CEO
- 7:00Speaker 1: a TV. Now. I'm just gonna let you know that
- 7:02Speaker 1: I'm speaking to the speaking to words come true. Okay,
- 7:06Speaker 1: thank you so much. Let's put that in the air.
- 7:10Speaker 1: But um, yeah, six of us total, all great amazing
- 7:12Speaker 1: tattoo artists. Um. And it's just a blessing to be
- 7:15Speaker 1: able to work with other amazing artists as I moved here.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I've just been kind of doing my own thing, traveling,
- 7:21Speaker 1: doing private sessions the studios. So now it's like, okay,
- 7:25Speaker 1: now I can build something where we can all come
- 7:27Speaker 1: together and you know, do something even greater. This is interesting.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Let me ask you this so because this is really
- 7:33Speaker 1: really cool conversation because we're talking about business. How you
- 7:36Speaker 1: started your business from a six months ago, You're you're
- 7:40Speaker 1: driving up and down the street, You're looking at you
- 7:42Speaker 1: looked in shops in different areas, Culver City, North Hollywood, Hollywood,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and you're settling on this location. Now you're telling me
- 7:49Speaker 1: with Sean, I'm not in there by myself. I have
- 7:51Speaker 1: six other people. Okay, your celebrity tattoo artists. How did
- 7:55Speaker 1: you choose the other six people to come on board?
- 7:58Speaker 1: That they have to have a social media following? Did
- 8:01Speaker 1: they have to have a client base? Did you look
- 8:03Speaker 1: at their art work or they came with recommendations? How
- 8:07Speaker 1: does that work? Yeah? You know what, when I feel
- 8:10Speaker 1: like once you enter the art world and the tattoo world,
- 8:13Speaker 1: all that celebrity and TV stuff doesn't mean anything. You
- 8:16Speaker 1: could be on TV, but that doesn't mean that, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you could be doing crappy work on TV. So for me,
- 8:21Speaker 1: it was all about the art, all about their skills set,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you know, there um their own clientele and everything. And
- 8:27Speaker 1: I pretty much like Cherry picked the artist. And I
- 8:30Speaker 1: just I was actually nervous to approach them because I'm like,
- 8:33Speaker 1: why would they want to come and work for me?
- 8:36Speaker 1: You know, it's really really nervous and it's kind of timid.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So I just you know, I just went out for it,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and I sent them emails or text our reashouts and
- 8:45Speaker 1: how I could, and I asked if they would want
- 8:47Speaker 1: to sit down and go to lunch with me so
- 8:49Speaker 1: I can tell them a little bit about what I'm doing.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And it worked, like you know, they were stoked to
- 8:55Speaker 1: come on board, and now we're just forming an amazing team.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So I'm just blessed. This is cool. Now, what is
- 9:04Speaker 1: your vision of of a tattoo shop? You know, store,
- 9:08Speaker 1: your location? What what makes you when you walk in there?
- 9:10Speaker 1: What when r Sean walks in there? Well? What? Whatever? What? What?
- 9:14Speaker 1: What world am I walking into? Well? When you ask,
- 9:18Speaker 1: like if I had always planned on open up a
- 9:20Speaker 1: tattoo shop, I come from, you know, the tattoo industries,
- 9:23Speaker 1: small towns, of my college town, and all tattoos shops
- 9:27Speaker 1: were kind of small hole in the wall. You know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: some people are kind of like mean at the front
- 9:32Speaker 1: desk is very gritty, and that's not me. Like, I know,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I'm a tattoo artist, but I'm also a businesswoman and
- 9:38Speaker 1: I always think big. So for me to have the
- 9:41Speaker 1: tattoo shop, I didn't want just a little hole in
- 9:43Speaker 1: the wall, you know, like grip type intimidating shop. Like.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I wanted something that would appeals to people in all
- 9:50Speaker 1: different categories, not just the tattoo industry. I wanted it
- 9:54Speaker 1: to appeal to people who are interested in art, who
- 9:56Speaker 1: are interested in beauty, and just I wanted to be very,
- 9:59Speaker 1: very high class us. So I love it. I love it.
- 10:07Speaker 1: It's like it's like I walk it in, It's just
- 10:09Speaker 1: like an experience. That's what you've created, an experience. Yes, absolutely,
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's a people's first impression when they walk in. It's
- 10:16Speaker 1: just like, man like this, you know, I've never seen
- 10:18Speaker 1: a tattoo shop like this. How was that thought? Right there?
- 10:21Speaker 1: We're gonna come back, We're gonna talk more with my girl.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Cat Tat opened a new tattoo studio called Enigma Tattoo
- 10:29Speaker 1: right at the Pico and Robinson in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Just say closer to be all right, listen to money
- 10:38Speaker 1: making conversation. Of course, I'm your host, ro Sean McDonald.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'm talking to a cat. Cat she's on fire. She's
- 10:43Speaker 1: on fire because she just this summer in June, she
- 10:46Speaker 1: opened a new tattoo location called Enigma Tattoo Pico and Robinson.
- 10:51Speaker 1: That's an amazing location to be and I like to
- 10:54Speaker 1: we walk through the steps are opening the shop, the
- 10:57Speaker 1: six months, getting the right people, because a lot of
- 10:59Speaker 1: people open open businesses without a brand, without a concept,
- 11:03Speaker 1: and she she had a brand. She had established her
- 11:05Speaker 1: brando television, she established her brand and social media, so
- 11:09Speaker 1: least she had a marketing platform that she could work with.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And then also, like she said earlier, just because your
- 11:15Speaker 1: tattoo on TV TV, don't mean you at tattoo artists
- 11:18Speaker 1: off of TV. And we all know she's a highly
- 11:21Speaker 1: recognized tattoo artist. Because celebrities are walking around with a tattoo.
- 11:25Speaker 1: One thing you don't do is a celebrity walking around
- 11:26Speaker 1: with a with a busted tattoo, because then you can
- 11:29Speaker 1: mean don't the social media and you out of the game. Okay,
- 11:34Speaker 1: But because I always run. There is a little history
- 11:36Speaker 1: between about her. You know, she went to college in
- 11:39Speaker 1: Columbia University, Missouri. Reason I have a natural natural connection
- 11:43Speaker 1: with her because mathematics is you know, my degree is
- 11:46Speaker 1: a mathematics and that was her degree plan was in mathematics.
- 11:48Speaker 1: So we all were gonna have that natural relationship. But
- 11:51Speaker 1: I always but she told me in my interview with
- 11:53Speaker 1: her that she started tattoo and while she was in
- 11:55Speaker 1: college and explain to everybody how that got started. Because
- 11:59Speaker 1: I was like, people, just let you practice on him,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and so to explain everybody how you got started in college,
- 12:05Speaker 1: and then we're gonna come back and talk about some
- 12:07Speaker 1: new ventures that you are a brand ambassador. Um So
- 12:13Speaker 1: in college, I was my personality. I'm just very outgoing.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Um I like talking to people attractive, intertractive, intertractive. Thank you.
- 12:23Speaker 1: That helps a guy going. Okay, let I let the practice.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Maybe she's getting the phone number. You know that I
- 12:30Speaker 1: had a small part. But yes, I made a lot
- 12:35Speaker 1: of friends and I was very um I don't know.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I just ordered up a kid one day. And people
- 12:42Speaker 1: have seen my artwork because I had always drawn pictures
- 12:45Speaker 1: and painting and stuff like that, so people, um some
- 12:48Speaker 1: our artwork. And then you know, like when you go
- 12:49Speaker 1: to college, just like your chance to recreate yourself, like
- 12:52Speaker 1: people don't know where you come from. Or so I
- 12:54Speaker 1: had already introduced myself as this tastoo artist as if
- 12:57Speaker 1: I had been doing it, like yeah, writist, never did
- 13:01Speaker 1: it before, but I ordered up a kid, and I
- 13:03Speaker 1: had people, um just believe in me. And then when
- 13:06Speaker 1: I got my first client in the chair, that's when
- 13:07Speaker 1: I let him know, like I actually never did this before.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But when you're you know, a freshman in college, like
- 13:13Speaker 1: that's one of the most pre spirit pre spirited times
- 13:16Speaker 1: of a person's life, is that freshman ye of college. Hold, okay,
- 13:20Speaker 1: this person is setting this chair. I'm assuming it's a dude. Okay,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you're telling him, okay, what what type of tattoo was he?
- 13:30Speaker 1: Was he thinking about? What? What? What? What? What was his?
- 13:32Speaker 1: And you told him this is my first time. Okay,
- 13:34Speaker 1: let's talk. Let's walk through that step because that's that's
- 13:36Speaker 1: a really convincing moment for you right there. Yeah. No,
- 13:39Speaker 1: he already had a really really crappy tribal tattoo, and
- 13:43Speaker 1: I was just gonna fill it in for him. I
- 13:45Speaker 1: was fixed it, yeah, so um, so he trusted me
- 13:49Speaker 1: to fix it. I got like almost halfway through, and
- 13:52Speaker 1: I had so many people in my dorm room like
- 13:54Speaker 1: watching me. I wasn't being a therapist, but everybody, like
- 13:57Speaker 1: twenty people came down just to watch me, just to
- 14:01Speaker 1: watch me do this, and like halfway through, my machine
- 14:04Speaker 1: like broke. So I was like, yeah, I'm gonna figure
- 14:08Speaker 1: this out and I'll get back to you. And then, um,
- 14:11Speaker 1: I networked with some other tattoo artists and found someone
- 14:14Speaker 1: who taught me how to set up my machine the
- 14:16Speaker 1: right way, and then I revisited his tattoo at a
- 14:19Speaker 1: later date and then I fixed it. And then from there,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I just started putting my work out on Facebook. When
- 14:25Speaker 1: everybody around the campus, you know, um heard that there
- 14:27Speaker 1: was a tach girl and that's why I got my name,
- 14:30Speaker 1: you know, cat tat girl. UM. And then I just
- 14:32Speaker 1: started tattooing everybody on campus, like the you know, all
- 14:36Speaker 1: the Kappas, the queues, all the Greek Scale, um, all
- 14:39Speaker 1: the athletes just started getting work from me. And I
- 14:42Speaker 1: became more of a tattoo artist than a student. So
- 14:45Speaker 1: that's when I knew, like, okay, my life is kind
- 14:47Speaker 1: of going two different ways, like in my a suitor,
- 14:49Speaker 1: in my studying math, or in my tattoo artists. After
- 14:54Speaker 1: a few years of you know, being consistent with tattooings,
- 14:57Speaker 1: when I decided that this is what I'm gonna do
- 14:59Speaker 1: for But the great thing I like about it was
- 15:02Speaker 1: that you know, you put in your time and you
- 15:04Speaker 1: developed your career. You know, as you just jump out
- 15:07Speaker 1: there off know that you left failure stop you. And
- 15:11Speaker 1: then then when you failure came in the way you
- 15:13Speaker 1: used to look, I need to learn how to really
- 15:15Speaker 1: do this correctly, and somebody showed you how to do
- 15:18Speaker 1: it correctly, and you've been you've been moving forward. Now
- 15:21Speaker 1: when you when you make a career change like that
- 15:23Speaker 1: to say, hey, I'm gonna invest myself in this because
- 15:26Speaker 1: this is not a traditional way of people generated revenue.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I remember when I left IBM to tell joke because
- 15:31Speaker 1: a stand up comic, people kind of looked at me like, really, really,
- 15:35Speaker 1: how you see what can be? Friends? Were three friends?
- 15:39Speaker 1: That's my girl right here. You know we're gonna get
- 15:43Speaker 1: along real good cat cat. Okay, whenever you need somebody,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm your big brother. Okay, we're gonna make this happen.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So let's talk about this, dude, when you're a brand
- 15:51Speaker 1: ambassador of Shoe Dazzle, you know, your response to you
- 15:54Speaker 1: becoming a branded daskle of Shoe Dazzle has been amazing.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Let's talk about that whole how came about and how
- 16:01Speaker 1: one can order the shoes. Um. You know, just like
- 16:04Speaker 1: I said, um with this whole tattoo shops, it's like,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know, like I'm more than you know, just uh
- 16:11Speaker 1: tattoo artists. Like I'm still a very relatable girl. I
- 16:15Speaker 1: think my fashion since translates very well with my following.
- 16:19Speaker 1: So when we got the opportunity to meet with UM
- 16:21Speaker 1: Shoe Dazzle, I think they were a little if the
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, ongoing around with the tattoo artists because people
- 16:27Speaker 1: had that preconceived notion of, you know, tattoo artists kind
- 16:30Speaker 1: of biker, kind of edgy. But they took a chance
- 16:33Speaker 1: with me and UM collaborated with me, and I mean
- 16:38Speaker 1: we just picked out such amazing cute shoes. Like I

- 18:53Speaker 1: something that really affected me positively, be hard to you.
- 18:57Speaker 1: What are you involved in right now? From a charity
- 18:59Speaker 1: stamp on, from a from a philanthropist standpoint. You talked
- 19:02Speaker 1: to us right quick. UM, well, I've been doing a
- 19:05Speaker 1: lot of work with the Genesee Center for Domestic Violence
- 19:08Speaker 1: and that's been consistent. And then um, also with this
- 19:11Speaker 1: tattoo shop, UM being right where it is, right in
- 19:14Speaker 1: the center of the city. UM, it's giving me an
- 19:16Speaker 1: opportunity to do more hands on things with things that
- 19:18Speaker 1: are currently going on in the community. So right now,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, kids are going back to school, so it's like, okay,
- 19:24Speaker 1: let's use this location to have a back to school
- 19:27Speaker 1: drive and people can drop off school supplies, backpacks, anything,
- 19:31Speaker 1: UM closed, anything that you know kids and teenagers might
- 19:34Speaker 1: need before they go back to school. And then we're
- 19:36Speaker 1: going to be UM giving that to the Boys and
- 19:39Speaker 1: Girls Club of Los Angeles. So that's what I'm currently
- 19:42Speaker 1: working on, UM. And I just want to do more
- 19:45Speaker 1: stuff like that, Like let's we use this location to
- 19:47Speaker 1: always just help people and really give that become a
- 19:50Speaker 1: part of the community like I was in Chicago. Now
- 19:53Speaker 1: I'm able to do that here as I love it.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I love it. Let me it's just the caution here
- 19:58Speaker 1: in regards to your art working with doing you was
- 20:00Speaker 1: displaying some of your paintings and galleries. Where are we
- 20:03Speaker 1: at right now with that? Um, well, right now, my
- 20:07Speaker 1: tattoo shop is kind of like an art gallery. All
- 20:09Speaker 1: the painting. Yeah, so there's artwork. All my artwork is
- 20:12Speaker 1: currently on the walls, and then the other tattoo artists
- 20:14Speaker 1: there for painters will be hanging up their artwork. The
- 20:17Speaker 1: next thing I want to do is do a collaborative
- 20:20Speaker 1: art show with all the artists so people can come
- 20:22Speaker 1: out and see that. You know, these tattoo artists are
- 20:25Speaker 1: also painters and they're from there. I'm gonna do my
- 20:27Speaker 1: annual solo art show. Um. It will be my third
- 20:30Speaker 1: one of Los Angeles, So I'm looking forward to that.
- 20:33Speaker 1: That will probably be around November. Girl, I'm talking to
- 20:37Speaker 1: a businesswoman. I'm talking to an artist. I'm talking to
- 20:42Speaker 1: a person who gives back to the community. UM. I'm
- 20:44Speaker 1: so impressed with you, and thank you for coming back
- 20:47Speaker 1: on my show. Really, this is just a different person
