- 0:03Hello and welcome to two girls in a pot.
- 0:05I'm Sharon, I'm Christy, we hope all of you were doing well, this
- 0:10week, the cold out there for some people, so hopefully you're
- 0:15all staying warm. Yeah, I say cold and Christy
- 0:17gets that look, yeah, that's one of the discussed.
- 0:24Yeah, I don't know what happened.
- 0:26I don't think we're quite winter people anymore.
- 0:28Where we before? Well, I kind of liked it growing
- 0:31up. You know, I grew up in the
- 0:32southern part of Colorado where it was cold and you just kind
- 0:35of, I didn't mind it. Then, you know, what is the idea
- 0:38that if you grow up in a place where it snows, you're supposed
- 0:41to be okay with it? No, I'm just saying that.
- 0:43You know, when I was growing up, it was fun for me.
- 0:46I didn't have a disdain for it. I did and I had plenty of snow
- 0:51where I grew up? Well, maybe it would suit you
- 0:53were doing To, you know, I liked hanging out, you know, my
- 0:56friends liked being out in the snow and so my family.
- 0:59So maybe it was different. Did you have friends at wanted
- 1:01to be outside? No.
- 1:03Okay. See.
- 1:03There you go. None of us wanted to be out
- 1:05there in that it's one of those things.
- 1:09So we are stuck here with winter so you know I think that's kind
- 1:13of interesting because you know when you're in a thing where
- 1:15you're in a situation where you can't get out as much as you
- 1:18would like to for whatever reason, you know?
- 1:19And sometimes it's the weather, those kind of things.
- 1:23Well, I wonder what Things we do is we do steps inside but we do
- 1:27steps with music and I always ask you, how do you say what
- 1:32we're going to walk to today because she's in charge of the
- 1:35music in the more fact she's in charge of the music?
- 1:37Probably 98% of the time. Well, I checked, you know, we
- 1:43listen to everything and the exception of country that is
- 1:48yeah. Usually not on our top 100 list
- 1:51of things to listen to definitely not.
- 1:53I mean that's not something. You ever choose to listen to?
- 1:56I mean there are there's good songs and every genre but it's
- 2:00not something that I choose to listen to but respect to the
- 2:04country music industry. No definitely not.
- 2:07I mean there's no beaten Dolly. She's a great gal.
- 2:11Yeah and that goes beyond music. I think she just seems like a
- 2:16really cool person. She is such an iconic person and
- 2:19for those of you who didn't see her, if you didn't see her in
- 2:23Miley Cyrus, During the New Year's Eve thing, you got to go
- 2:26you too, but watch it. It was such a fun thing.
- 2:29And, and doll, even at her age, the energy she has, you know,
- 2:33and also when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of
- 2:36Fame, that just shows you the impact of music and even
- 2:39somebody from the country, getting into the Rock and Roll
- 2:42Hall of Fame and why they explain that, and it just the
- 2:44power of music itself, you know? Well, and I think it's going to
- 2:47be really interesting to see what it inspires in her now
- 2:51because she is doing this new rock.
- 2:54Album and she's talked about some of the different names that
- 2:58may be on there. And I'm excited to hear what
- 3:01it's going to sound like, because I think Dolly could rock
- 3:03with the best of them, you know, a little rock with the little
- 3:06country twang but hey, we'll take it.
- 3:10Yeah, but once again it just shows you the power of music and
- 3:13I think how you can maybe not like a genre but there might be
- 3:18somebody in that genre that you can just that music and that
- 3:21personality and all the stuff that resonates with you.
- 3:24Yeah. And I mean it's funny because
- 3:26there's a lot of like I'm not a country music fan but there's a
- 3:30lot of crossover and stuff like that happening and that and I
- 3:33think that it's always cool to me when you hear all the
- 3:37different collaborations when people come together and create
- 3:41music that is just it's awesome to me to see you know what comes
- 3:46out of that. And it's so cool because music
- 3:49is so versatile and you can just do so much well and I think to
- 3:54it, Like sometimes when you have first might see those people who
- 3:57are collaborating together, you're thinking that, why?
- 3:59That? And then you listen and it's
- 4:01like they hear something that we don't until you know that
- 4:04finished product comes out and then it's like, oh my goodness,
- 4:07I would have never thought to put those two people together.
- 4:09Yeah, exactly. Well.
- 4:11And sometimes people have a problem with this.
- 4:13If they're, you know, somebody that does a certain genre music
- 4:16when they step outside of that. There's a lot of people that it,
- 4:20you know, it goes against what they feel like, oh, you're not
- 4:23being true to it or whatever. Or I guess the night.
- 4:25So I would imagine they'll be some rejection, even with the
- 4:28rock album for Dolly but you remember back however many years
- 4:32ago that was his name, the country artist that did a whole
- 4:38Rock album and that didn't set well with people at first, he
- 4:43did it under a different name, got wrist.
- 4:45It was Garth Brooks. Yeah, which I know a lot of
- 4:48people didn't care for that album but I actually liked it a
- 4:52lot. I thought I had a lot of good
- 4:54songs. You saw me.
- 4:55So I just think it's interesting, you know,
- 4:58especially if somebody does a certain genre music all the time
- 5:01and they're willing to step outside of that.
- 5:03I remember hearing years and years ago, the other performer
- 5:08that she's Celine Dion, you know, the style of music that
- 5:13she doesn't that, but I heard her years ago, do rap, and she
- 5:17was phenomenal at it. Oh yeah.
- 5:19She did a little thing on. Yeah, I remember that.
- 5:22Yeah, so I mean I think it's really cool when you see An
- 5:24artist kind of step outside of themselves and do something.
- 5:28Maybe that's outside their comfort zone will.
- 5:29Even when you start seeing those actors and actresses who, you
- 5:33know, when you don't think about like Nicole Kidman, but she can
- 5:36actually sing, you know, she was on Moulin Rouge and she has a
- 5:40voice to, you know, of course Anna Kendrick's who was more
- 5:45known for Twilight and then went on to Pitch.
- 5:48Perfect, it's perfect. And you know just that that they
- 5:52can seem to and you know everybody's here's the Rock.
- 5:54You know, many things in moaña and stuff like that.
- 5:56Yeah. His little thing and Journey to
- 5:59the Center of the Earth. Does this little ukulele think?
- 6:02Yeah. Hey, you don't even realize,
- 6:04sometimes those people are musically inclined, but it's so
- 6:07cool. When you get to see that side of
- 6:09them. And I think, you know, the other
- 6:11thing we were talking about one day to is like how they're
- 6:14remaking, so many old songs, you know.
- 6:16First one we heard then on John's new version with the
- 6:19female singer do Oliva, do Oliva.
- 6:21And it's like, First, you know, so what are you thinking?
- 6:26You kind of you didn't, and I liked it right away.
- 6:29I'd like the that combination and stuff.
- 6:33And yeah, the first time I heard it, I was a little unsure, but
- 6:36it grew on me. And, you know, it's like how
- 6:38many of you out there listening? We'll listen to a song and you
- 6:41think, you know, it just is not resonating with me, but then you
- 6:44hear the next time and I don't know if it's that we're in a
- 6:46different mood or a different place.
- 6:48Or I don't know what that is, but you hear the next time
- 6:51you're there, like, oh my God, you know what, I really do like
- 6:53that song. Yeah, I mean for me almost any
- 6:57post Malone song I ever heard. I liked it the first time, but I
- 7:00do remember, I think the first time I heard circles, I wasn't
- 7:04sure about that one either. And now I love that song.
- 7:06So, I mean it is, it's interesting how some songs kind
- 7:09of grow on you and we, I always left you in because, well, we,
- 7:13if you can't tell me talk a lot about music but I'll ask you, do
- 7:16you hear the music first? Or the lyrics when you first
- 7:20listen to a song? And most the time, it's the
- 7:23music I get Wrapped up in that unless it's one of those songs
- 7:27to me, if it has just that same repetitiveness and how many of
- 7:30you out there to have seen a song go to into the top 10?
- 7:33And you think why on Earth is that song?
- 7:38Yes. There have been songs that like
- 7:39that. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:40She'll get aggravated at that shall select.
- 7:42Why is this even popular white? And I get it because sometimes
- 7:46if they're too. But I guess that's the cool
- 7:48thing, you know, that's a very cool thing that you can.
- 7:51There's everybody has such different tastes in music.
- 7:54Music and that it just shows the versatility.
- 7:57And I think that that's awesome because I mean, I love so many
- 8:01different styles of music. I remember going through a
- 8:04period of my life where I almost always just listen to reggae and
- 8:09you know and I mean now I try to mix it up a lot.
- 8:12I think my favorites probably reggaeton and I I mean, I love,
- 8:17you know, any Latin beat music so yeah, we're all into that and
- 8:22but I think what's interesting is, you know, It's not in what I
- 8:25find fascinating about you. In the years.
- 8:28We've been together. I swear there can be a song that
- 8:30comes on, you know, even if it's on a commercial, whatever you
- 8:35will know it. And I'm there like, how do you
- 8:36know that song from the 50s or the 40s or and you'll tally oh
- 8:40yeah I heard that you know whether it was your grandma or
- 8:43somebody. Well I've listened to music even
- 8:46growing up. I would listen to music at night
- 8:50with my earphones and partially because growing up, I was always
- 8:54Only allowed to listen to Christian music and and there's
- 8:59some good stuff in that too. And there were some groups that
- 9:03I really enjoyed, but I wasn't allowed to listen to secular
- 9:06music. So I would listen to it at night
- 9:08in my earphones. So I just got to listen to so
- 9:12many different kinds. I would just, I don't know.
- 9:15I was just a practice for me and then also, my dad was 24 years
- 9:20older than my mom. He knew a lot of different
- 9:22songs. I mean, it was such a wide span
- 9:27of music that I that I was privy to, I guess, just because of
- 9:33them and their age difference. And that even though like I said
- 9:37as my growing up years we pretty much they listen to gospel in
- 9:42and Bluegrass. I, at least I would listen to
- 9:45contemporary Christian. I was big into DC, Talk and
- 9:50Petra groups like that. Where mine was different
- 9:53because, you know, my My mom's dad, so my grandfather, he
- 9:56played accordion harmonica and he could play some piano but he
- 9:59did all by ear. So we had a musical thing in
- 10:03that area but I remember being little in my mom would always
- 10:07hum and see when she would do laundry.
- 10:10And I remember as a child thinking, I can hardly wait till
- 10:12I can get old enough to do laundry because it's such a fun
- 10:15thing because my mom always seem to enjoy it because there was
- 10:18always some type of humming and music going on.
- 10:20So, in my head I thought it must be something to do and how Okay,
- 10:25rude awakening. You know when I got old enough
- 10:26to do laundry room, they're like, hmm, I don't find the same
- 10:30Joy obviously but my mom's side of the family, music was such a
- 10:35huge thing. And when my grandma, after my
- 10:38grandfather passed away, you know, many years later, my
- 10:41grandmother came to visit us and we put music on and it because
- 10:46it was music is such an important part of that side of
- 10:49my family and we were dancing with my grandmother.
- 10:52Who was at that time, probably, 990, you know and just dancing
- 10:57and having a good time and just that joy of the music even
- 11:00through her and and whereas on my dad's side of the family,
- 11:04music was not a big thing. My grandma music was not her
- 11:08thing. And so even for my dad he kind
- 11:11of had to evolve into that, you know, with my mom and then all
- 11:14the rest of us but I remember growing up, Saturday mornings.
- 11:17We were watching American Bandstand.
- 11:19Pretty soon. Dad was watching it with this
- 11:20and dad were watching American Bandstand, solid gold Soul
- 11:24Train. And so we had music, you know.
- 11:28So, and just how important it was, did you do school dance?
- 11:32You didn't go to public school, so allowed to go to school
- 11:35dances or anything. So yeah, music was a big part of
- 11:40my life but it wasn't because of things like that.
- 11:45But always remember, you know, way back in the day, you know,
- 11:47because that's what it was for me.
- 11:49I remember school dances and you know that music would come on
- 11:52and, you know, at first, you know, nobody wanted to dance
- 11:54because As I don't know, you know, I don't know if you got to
- 11:56know what the thing is, but you know, you just see that, you
- 11:58know, seen those movies, where you pan in, you see, everybody
- 12:01just sitting there looking may be tapping their foot and stuff,
- 12:04but pretty soon, the music moves you and your out dancing.
- 12:08That's what I say. I mean, how can you sit still if
- 12:11you're there listening to music? I, it amazes me the people that.
- 12:15Can I remember when we went to Las Vegas, our friend Sandra
- 12:20again, but we went out to this club and I remember there were
- 12:24The, you know, the music's really going and, I mean, you're
- 12:27standing there listening to the Rhythm of the Night.
- 12:30How are you standing that still? How do you do that?
- 12:35I don't get it. She says she's dancing
- 12:37internally. Yeah, so, I mean, it is music
- 12:43moves. This music is about movement in
- 12:46motion. And, you know, not only does
- 12:49music have the ability to move our body, but it Has such an
- 12:55ability to really touch our soul and and just really make us.
- 13:02I don't even know what the word is.
- 13:03Yeah, I feel like music can be so healing or it can just be
- 13:08soothing sometimes you know you're going through something
- 13:12or whatever and you could put a song on, I love that.
- 13:15There's a song for every mood. Oh God.
- 13:18Yes. And then there are the songs
- 13:21that can help change the mood true and I just I love that
- 13:26about music in. I feel like that life without
- 13:31music would be so sad, you know, it's interesting because, you
- 13:34know, I work with kids for so long and often times by you hear
- 13:37parents, say they would be fighting about what the kid was
- 13:40listening to. Hmm, don't be listening to that.
- 13:43That's, you know, corrupting your mind bubble.
- 13:45And I remember this kid, he loved him and him who the the
- 13:50the parents are? They just didn't like it.
- 13:53It was rap music. Was all this now.
- 13:55So Mom comes in. They've been fighting about this
- 13:58because I DL said, what what song is it that you're listening
- 14:01to? And he was listening to a song
- 14:03Cleaning Out My Closet. Hmm.
- 14:06And I asked the mom, I said, do you know what that is even about
- 14:08and she goes well, it's rap music and I said but you know
- 14:10what, I want you to your assignment, is you go listen to
- 14:12that song and when they came back she was why didn't
- 14:16understand. And I said, because it's the
- 14:18song is about getting rid of crap, you know, is very much
- 14:23what therapeutic We do we clean out your closet.
- 14:27You know what, that's what he was talking about.
- 14:28Cleaning out the closet. You know.
- 14:29You have to transcend that get past that figuratively speaking?
- 14:32And yeah, yeah. Emotionally healing kind of
- 14:34thing. Yes.
- 14:35And so it really changed her perception because then they
- 14:39could have a conversation about that, you know.
- 14:42And I think sometimes, you know, older Generations, you know we
- 14:46all heard about Alvis right that Rebel.
- 14:50Oh my goodness, he was starting to sexual Revolution or so.
- 14:55How dare he move his hips like that?
- 14:57Exactly. And so I think that was really
- 15:03even for him that started a new genre a new way of Performing
- 15:09and things like that. So every time there is these
- 15:12these iconic people who came through, you know, and did stuff
- 15:15like that. Of course, Michael Jackson, you
- 15:17know, with his dance moves and stuff like that.
- 15:19That was incorporated in and it just shows that evolution of
- 15:24Music but music with dance and and the value of it.
- 15:28Hmm, you know, and of course, you know, speaking of Elvis
- 15:31Presley, you know, very sad about Lisa Marie that was really
- 15:35a sad thing because you know, she was a artist and you know, a
- 15:39singer and that so you know we're losing there's a lot of
- 15:42these iconic Jeff Beck, you know, passing away as well.
- 15:46So there's a lot of really these performers who really
- 15:50contributed in gave so much in the world of music and it's such
- 15:54A cool thing that even though they left us physically, we
- 15:58still have the music to kind of connect with that.
- 16:02They've really left behind a legacy and it's really cool
- 16:04because it, you know, I you say, if they change the world of
- 16:08music, but, and it's not just the world of music because
- 16:12that's the cool thing about music is it changes the world of
- 16:16people sometimes, you know? Absolutely, it helps you reflect
- 16:20on things sometimes and see things differently and They
- 16:24said, just can soothe the soul and hear when he said the world,
- 16:28you know, because we listen to World music to, we listen to
- 16:30music from all over the world. Absolutely.
- 16:33One of the things that I think is really cool, is we watch a
- 16:35series called Destination Truth and he travels all over the
- 16:37world and sometimes, even when he goes into these Villages and
- 16:41they there will be music. Oh, they will be dancing.
- 16:44There will be music. Music is, you know, whether it's
- 16:47on a drum or whatever. That musical instrument is, and
- 16:51there's really cool musical instruments from all over the
- 16:53world. And that's what I think is cool
- 16:55too. Is it connects Us in so many
- 16:57ways and everywhere that you, you go.
- 17:00It's like music is such a key part of culture of just people
- 17:07in general, at things, that they're going through or
- 17:09whatever it has has brought people together, you know, they
- 17:13they would join together and songs and things like that.
- 17:16And I mean, I think that that's really cool because it was a
- 17:19form of entertainment before. There was anything, you know
- 17:22what I mean, and song and dance. Always been so important.
- 17:27You know. One of the things and I always
- 17:29have such a fun memory of is, you know, we used to go to
- 17:33wedding dances and stuff like that with as a family, is
- 17:37Dancing cumbias with my dad and stuff.
- 17:40Yes. And my mom dance, cumbias with
- 17:42my brothers and stuff. So just the importance of that
- 17:46with us, and that value to us, you know, it was the music, it's
- 17:50that connectivity. It's all of those things that
- 17:52are just so amazing. Once again, my mom's love of
- 17:55music. So we listen to some Frank
- 17:57Sinatra. I mean, when we talk about the
- 18:00genres of what we do, and I have a memorial tattoo for my parents
- 18:06and on it is the musical notes and it's a staff with the
- 18:11musical notes, and it's five minutes more by Frank Sinatra,
- 18:15which wasn't one of his biggest songs he ever had out there
- 18:18because it's a really short song.
- 18:19It's not very big but it was the first song that my parents dance
- 18:22to. Yeah.
- 18:24And what's cool is on the tattoo, the way the notes are
- 18:26placed on the staff, it's actually playable.
- 18:28So I thought that was really neat.
- 18:30Yeah. I thought that was cool.
- 18:31You know, the tattoo I told the tattoo artist, just put some
- 18:33notes on there but he actually went and looked it up and then
- 18:36he actually put the musical note.
- 18:38So you can actually play them, you know, if you see him, if
- 18:40you're those kind of music people, you know, which I am
- 18:44not. I have a memorial tattoo as well
- 18:47to my dad, because when I was growing up, he would play
- 18:51mandolin. When I was little little, he
- 18:54used, To play the banjo and then switch to the mandolin.
- 18:57And so hers is a mandolin. Yeah, on her.
- 19:00So once again, even music is even represented on our tattoos
- 19:06and we have a sleeve of Vegas. And we have musical notes there
- 19:10because we got to go see Shakira in concert there with two of our
- 19:15friends Sandra. And then we went and saw 30
- 19:18Seconds to Mars there with your brother, David.
- 19:21So, we have these experiences and music Six people together.
- 19:25Well, yes, you can sit there and say, oh yeah, you know, a lot of
- 19:29you go back in the day. And so yeah, my friends and I we
- 19:32did this and that, you know, at this concert or and it's that
- 19:35really great memory. Well hopefully you know, no
- 19:38arrests or anything like that. There's those two.
- 19:42But it's so interesting too because you can hear a song
- 19:44maybe that you hadn't heard in a really long time and it'll take
- 19:47you right back to a moment. And I think that that's really
- 19:50cool. I mean I remember you know the
- 19:53songs that we used to listen. Listen to when we go cruising
- 19:56and those kinds of things. So I mean it's really cool how
- 19:59you're waiting for you. That's kind of cool too because
- 20:02some of that time was with your Aunt Sherry who passed away.
- 20:05So yeah, so I mean, when I hear, you know, anything, that's the
- 20:10ones that we went to see, we went to see.
- 20:11We went to the 90s concert and got to see Coolio and all
- 20:18Sultan's HEPA. Those were the big ones when I
- 20:21would go cruising with Aunt Sherry.
- 20:23Oh yeah. And of course, Coolio my
- 20:26ringtone is a gangster's paradise.
- 20:29Yeah, and once again, when you think about this and music is
- 20:34healing. Hmm, I tell people listening to
- 20:38music is such a healing force. It has this amazing ability,
- 20:43like you said to take us back into time and even sometimes
- 20:48there will be that song that might trigger that memory to the
- 20:51Past. Maybe it's not a good memory but
- 20:53then you, You can also remember it can trigger you back there,
- 20:57but then you also get to come back to this place and you get
- 20:59to see that journey and how far you've come?
- 21:03I often say you know go back and let you know when you go back
- 21:06and you actually sit down and you think about it and you think
- 21:09of those songs through your history, those historical songs
- 21:13for you that have meaning and relevance and things like that.
- 21:17I don't know why. For me for one of my friends,
- 21:20her name's me while she's from Osaka Japan.
- 21:23When I hear the song, I always think of her, this was from our,
- 21:26we were in college and I don't know what it is about that.
- 21:30So, well, we dance to it when night, but that song, for
- 21:32whatever reason and such a fond memory for me.
- 21:35Hmm, it was a brief memory, it's not even like it was a you know
- 21:39like a concert or anything like that we were just out we're
- 21:42dancing and it was just a fun fun moment.
- 21:45And so you know, just even having those moments where you
- 21:48start to think about those things and it is that really
- 21:51connectivity that it does for us and I know we connect a lot of
- 21:55music you know like we said we were just at the Snoop Dogg
- 21:58concert which is you know who doesn't love Snoop Dogg, you
- 22:01just got that. Cool laid-back, Vibe, you know
- 22:03what I'm saying? And of course, T-Pain and the
- 22:05Ying Yang Twins, were just phenomenal.
- 22:08Yes. Raising concert in every once in
- 22:11a while. It's nice to go to go back.
- 22:14I thought one of the really cool things that you did for me for
- 22:16one of my birthday's. Is I like Chris Isaak I love
- 22:19you. Done a bad bad thing.
- 22:22One of my favorite songs movies but You surprised me with
- 22:25concerts tickets to him and which was really amazing.
- 22:29And like I said, it's so neat because we can go back and
- 22:31forth. And you know, a lot of times,
- 22:33you know, you might hear people say well why are those old
- 22:35people still performing those old people are performing
- 22:37because their music. Resonates we are big, Ozzy fans.
- 22:41Yes. We freaking love y z.
- 22:44You know, and he came out with any other loved his new song,
- 22:47patient number 9, just and that was one that Jeff Beck was on
- 22:51doing guitar on that. And so, once again that raishin
- 22:54of stuff and guitar music is really important in Ozzy songs,
- 22:59and you can see why in when he when he talks about it when he's
- 23:02talking about the Riff. When he's talking about those
- 23:04things, you can that passion for that resonates and then when you
- 23:09go to listen to it you're listening to that.
- 23:12It changes that experience. I think I think so too.
- 23:15I always love when to hear interviews with performers and
- 23:20that when they talk about the the whole creative process and
- 23:24Just the ideas that they come up with and like I said when they
- 23:28pull in other people and do these collaborations and
- 23:30everything but it's always neat to hear the artist perspective
- 23:34on how they came up with this song or why.
- 23:37You know one of the things that I really am loving is growing up
- 23:43in the Latin culture is that if you wanted to hear that you have
- 23:48to actually be listening to a Latin station and now it It is
- 23:54so mainstream. We have Bad Bunny.
- 23:56We hash Guetta, we have. These are J Balvin.
- 24:00There's just so many Narrow Gauge.
- 24:03So many Jennifer Lopez is doing like Christina Aguilera, you
- 24:06know, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez.
- 24:08You know, back in the day they didn't really do a lot of the
- 24:11Spanish music now they are because it's become so much more
- 24:14mainstream and I absolutely love that.
- 24:17So now I can hear that. What I like about it, is it, it
- 24:20really goes back to that relationship.
- 24:22I have with my, my parents Family having that, you know,
- 24:26we've gone to Latin cut. We went to see lost Economist
- 24:29Tobias Renee, how many times have I gone to see lost again is
- 24:32because and I just want you to know, we go to see lost
- 24:34Economist one night. We're Christy and I are tired.
- 24:37Where's my sister Linda? She wanted a picture with them
- 24:41so bad. Huh, how long did we have to
- 24:43freaking? Wait, you stayed up there
- 24:44waiting forever but she got her stupid.
- 24:48Well, she calls to but man we were tired.
- 24:50We were in touch, but she wanted it.
- 24:52We State. She got it.
- 24:54But that's what I mean. You know, it's so cool.
- 24:57That that representation for me for my culture is now there I.
- 25:06Yes. Absolutely love it.
- 25:07And I love that those that they're collaborating with
- 25:10people of different genres. Snoop Dogg did one.
- 25:14It's a crossover and it's blending of those cultures of
- 25:17that culture through music. Oh yeah.
- 25:20I love that that they're, they're doing so much more of
- 25:23that and music. Then I have ever heard.
- 25:26I listen to some songs that will have several different languages
- 25:30in it and I just think that that's so cool.
- 25:34Well, I love that with Shakira's.
- 25:36She does that she brings in the Lebanese piece of it.
- 25:40So it has that more Middle Eastern, sound to it, which I
- 25:43really like in songs and, you know, like I said it's just the
- 25:47world of music. I think is expanding at the same
- 25:50time coming together, if that makes sense.
- 25:52It is expand. And I think It creates these
- 25:55Bridges between these cultures and that I love that because
- 26:00like I said, well, even the, I don't remember, the name of the
- 26:03song that the one by SIA. It's got French.
- 26:06It's got Spanish, I mean, it's so cool to me that this little
- 26:09Montage. Yeah.
- 26:10All these collaborations coming together and making music and
- 26:15making it, it's different than it's ever been.
- 26:18I feel like, and I think that's awesome.
- 26:20And I think the cool thing is, and I think that, you know,
- 26:22hopefully the listeners where you're listening can Here in our
- 26:25voice. The music is part of our happy.
- 26:28Oh yes. And I think that's a thing, you
- 26:30know? Even when we talk about that
- 26:32mental health piece, I was telling people go to those
- 26:34places of happy in the fastest place to do that is throw on
- 26:37some music, really listen to it. I remember growing up and get I
- 26:44remember one of my friends Sherry, she loved Donny Osmond
- 26:49and I think Donnie Osmond and at first I was there like I didn't
- 26:52know that I went and I said oh okay.
- 26:54It's music and stuff like that. So, but I remember even just
- 26:56seems like that. Hmm, and then you put music in
- 26:59musicals and that's even great. Moulin Rouge is one of my
- 27:03favorite musicals, but then we watch the greatest showman.
- 27:06And we started really watching more of the musicals because of
- 27:10that, of course, is just went like right out of my head.
- 27:14I started seeing it when he did Hamilton.
- 27:18I watch that and I fell in love with the idea.
- 27:24Use the cover was just amazing and I think I have more of a
- 27:28passion for that then you sometimes and I'm not sure.
- 27:31Would you agree? Yeah, I think so.
- 27:33I mean I do there are certain ones that I love probably Moulin
- 27:37Rouge is probably my favorite of any of those but yeah, I do like
- 27:41musicals and that and I enjoyed Hamilton to but I just I don't
- 27:46know. I do you notice the difference?
- 27:48I love Hamilton. I enjoyed Hamilton.
- 27:54For me. But yeah, I did enjoy them,
- 27:57which is weird to me. Because in my head, I think
- 27:59she's such a lover of Music. How can she not just love even
- 28:03theater because of the music? It baffles me.
- 28:09No, I do enjoy them. I just, I don't know.
- 28:12I love that she goes back to. I do enjoy them and I think
- 28:15that's what it is. So once again, it baffles me
- 28:17just a little bit because of her love and passion for this, I
- 28:21wonder how is it? Because I don't know.
- 28:24If it's the style of music or if it's the musical itself or what
- 28:28that is. But you know I keep telling her
- 28:30we're going to go to the theater, we're going to do some
- 28:32musicals. We're going to because I just
- 28:34think there's something different about theater to
- 28:36because the meat the live music and all of that it just changes
- 28:39a little bit but it seems that we get to share and we share
- 28:44those passions, with each other, different kinds of genres and
- 28:47stuff like that. And we have a client who sends
- 28:49you music all the time. Yeah.
- 28:52All kinds of music. Yeah, it's really cool but I
- 28:56love to it's interesting to hear the different things that people
- 29:01like you know they mean and sometimes you hear stuff you
- 29:05never even heard before you know that way.
- 29:07I mean it's really cool. Then one of the things is this
- 29:11was the other funny thing was that we're both on Facebook and
- 29:14you know but we don't always know what the other one does on
- 29:17Facebook. You know you like different
- 29:19things. I like differently.
- 29:20Let's know the product here. I am.
- 29:22I'm liking all of her stuff. If I really like her stuff and
- 29:25then one day, she says that and where they're like, what we
- 29:28didn't even, we haven't even talked about this, but here we
- 29:31were, you know, following her her amazing voice.
- 29:35I mean, as far when it comes to, and, of course, it's so cool to
- 29:39me once again because she's Latina and so it's that being
- 29:45able to listen to that music in Spanish.
- 29:46But she's she does rap. Yeah, she's amazing artist and
- 29:50amazing, not just wrapping and she does So she gets it all.
- 29:54Yeah, and it was so cool to see that her song is on the Black
- 29:58Panther wakanda forever. How amazing is that, you know,
- 30:03and we've got to see her in concert.
- 30:05She does small venues, which I think is amazing.
- 30:09Those people who don't forget their Grassroots.
- 30:11You know, they don't forget that, you know, and she talks
- 30:14about that. Yeah.
- 30:15And a different completely different style of music, but
- 30:18really great group is shell. Yes, fheo, yes.
- 30:23Yes, and they are amazing. And if you have never heard
- 30:26them, you should they are four sisters.
- 30:29The drummer does BeatBox. Oh my goodness or nominal at it.
- 30:34And, you know, they're more there are local to Colorado and
- 30:37now they've expanded out and stuff like that, but their style
- 30:40of music. I guess you would say we're more
- 30:42like, fulgor, something like that kind of days.
- 30:45They write their own music, it's and they're phenomenal because
- 30:48they play in the so they're all classically trained.
- 30:52So there Sarah Who plays violin? There's Hannah, who does
- 30:57keyboard. Mmm, there's Eve who does the
- 31:01mandolin electric mandolin, and then there's Liza who does all
- 31:05of the percussion stuff in beatbox so it's shell.
- 31:09If you haven't heard them, get on in the my favorite favorite
- 31:15one of theirs is Melissa remake Shadow.
- 31:19Hmm. Oh no, no, okay, Shadow, they
- 31:21did a remake A Sandman It was phenomenal.
- 31:24Yes, but no, Shadow is in the title and it was on a movie TV
- 31:30program. They played it on that.
- 31:32And so I'm just a shadow, maybe because the name of it.
- 31:36But phenomenal song, we've been fortunate enough to go see them
- 31:40a few times in concert and their interaction with the audience if
- 31:44you can get two concerts. That's great, right now we're
- 31:47hearing it from everybody and we're filling it to concert
- 31:50prices, have, it's in, it's sad to me.
- 31:53Such a sad thing because you know there's something about
- 31:55seeing live performances and stuff like that but the ticket
- 31:59pricing has gotten outrageous and so it's made it hard.
- 32:03I wanted to take Christina. See Stevie Nicks?
- 32:05I Love Stevie Nicks, mmm. Fleetwood Mac Stevie Nicks.
- 32:08I'm telling you Devon once again, Christine McVie we lost
- 32:12her to that was really sad but I wanted to go take her to a
- 32:17concert at Red Rocks and if you have not seen a concert at Red
- 32:19Rocks, get out there and do it. I know Christie's looking at me
- 32:22like yeah. You've been telling me that I
- 32:24have not seen a concert at rocks and I've been here for over 20
- 32:28years in Colorado, eventually I'm going to get there, but one
- 32:33of the things is that I told her I said I really do want to get
- 32:37in. So I was so excited when I saw
- 32:38Stevie Nicks coming but the price ticket prices on there
- 32:42like this is crazy. Yeah.
- 32:44And I don't know if all the rest of you are experiencing that
- 32:47too, and I don't know, you know, I get it, we had covid.
- 32:50We had all that but it just seems like Astronomically high
- 32:54now. Yeah.
- 32:56Really really high and I don't know what that's about but I
- 33:01know for me, I wish we could get back to it, to it being
- 33:05affordable for people and things like that.
- 33:08It's disappointing that it's gone up the way that it has.
- 33:10I'm really grateful that we've gotten to see the artists that
- 33:13we have been able to see in concert.
- 33:16Katy Perry was amazing. So was pink.
- 33:19Oh God, pink is phenomenal Jan pit bull.
- 33:23Janet Janet Jackson is kind of cool.
- 33:25Janet Jackson is coming back and Performing now and I was
- 33:28watching her clip from her concert I think in Hawaii.
- 33:32Oh my God you know Janet Jackson is this really iconic person?
- 33:35You know when you did anything can you know she's older now
- 33:39sold out. I mean I was there like oh my
- 33:42God this is completely full and that's what I love Snoop Dogg.
- 33:47We went there. It was sold out.
- 33:49Yeah and so Jeana Kara was phenomenal.
- 33:53Our she's like a little ball of energy, man.
- 33:55I am telling you Jay little, I was so surprised.
- 33:58She was only four foot something, when they first
- 34:01brought her down, because she came through the, the audience,
- 34:04and when they first brought her up there, they were, I thought
- 34:07they were carrying her on a, something really low and know,
- 34:11she was walking. I was like, what I do.
- 34:16It was so weird, but it was so cool because we were so close to
- 34:20when they brought her in, you know, we could have reached out
- 34:21and touched her. Yeah.
- 34:23Yeah. And yeah.
- 34:24So that way. And yeah, she was there.
- 34:25Like, what is it, like, what are they carrying her?
- 34:27I know. She's walking like, wow, I did
- 34:30not. And then she gets onstage and
- 34:32she has such a huge presence and, and oh my God, that woman
- 34:36can make her body move. Like, I don't even know how she
- 34:39does it. She breaks all laws of physics
- 34:41and everything to me, but you say can't happen.
- 34:44Her body can do. Yeah.
- 34:46And in. So, you know, once again, it's
- 34:48that power of music and it is so important.
- 34:53And if you're not spending time, listening to music, then start
- 34:58it hitter. So it is.
- 35:00So, so healing, I remember, when my mom was in hospice and
- 35:06because of her love of Music, we were just go play your music.
- 35:09Huh? Mmm.
- 35:11And she would love it. Well, she found it very
- 35:14entertaining to because the grandkids are coming in and that
- 35:16was the during the time that the Nene was really popular.
- 35:20And so the kids come in, they play that song and Then they
- 35:23danced. She got a kick out of that, but
- 35:26it's such good memories and my dad would, you know, one of the
- 35:31things I my dad once again, he didn't grow up with music or
- 35:34anything like that, but he would so crack me up because he would
- 35:38just start singing. And he would sing older songs
- 35:42and old Susanna old Suzanne. I don't ask me why old Susanna
- 35:48so amazing. But, you know, it's really funny
- 35:50because Christy did the music at my parents funerals, which I
- 35:54really greatly. Appreciate another is really
- 35:56difficult for you, but when we were at the cemetery, my cousin
- 36:00who played the music for he does music on my dad's side, he had
- 36:05his harmonica. And while we were at the
- 36:06graveside, he played old Susanna on his harmonica and it was just
- 36:11so amazing and it just kind of brought everything together
- 36:14because he got to go out with a little bit of music and wild
- 36:17Suzanne. I don't know.
- 36:18Maybe it was the work of only ones who knew the worst child.
- 36:21Yeah, I don't know why he would just sing that once in a while.
- 36:23So I thought it was really cool that he did that but you know, I
- 36:27can go back and now I have such a different fondness for that.
- 36:31It's such a great memory for me and so you know, I think there
- 36:35are those things in the memories that can bring.
- 36:39But also, we want people understand their such a healing
- 36:42power to music music. You feel it?
- 36:46Mmm, you truly. Feel it.
- 36:48And we'll talk about this too because sometimes will hear a
- 36:51voice and a melee with Evanescence and yes, her voice
- 36:56for some, there's something about those voices that I say
- 36:59that there's this haunting feel to it, but it creates such an
- 37:04emotion, such a feeling. Yes, yeah, it's really cool.
- 37:09And, you know, taking that time to, to listen to music, to help
- 37:15it to heal you to know. That there's so much value in
- 37:21it. Hmm.
- 37:23And then talking to him about music.
- 37:25I have clients and we'll talk about music and I love that.
- 37:29I was talking to one of my clients.
- 37:30I was talking to him, in fact about Snow the Product, and he
- 37:33was there, like snow, he had already been following her, so
- 37:36it was just kind of weird. I'd love talking to him about
- 37:39music, but we will be seeing him later today, but I will have
- 37:44those clients and we will talk about music in the value of.
- 37:48Talk to them or what music is done to help them through so
- 37:51many different things. And I think just taking that
- 37:55time to let it heal you. And it's not just about healing
- 37:59music can bring you Joy. Oh yeah.
- 38:02And granted music. And also bring a sadness.
- 38:05Hmm. Because I have a lot who will
- 38:08they had to break up so they're going to sit there and you know
- 38:11listen to every breakup song There is blah blah you know and
- 38:14I get there's that moment to sometimes you need that I guess.
- 38:18One of my friends made me a CD is when my first relationship
- 38:22was ending and it was all the reasons I should.
- 38:24It was a how many songs about why it like I should end this
- 38:27relationship. And it's funny because that used
- 38:31to be a popular thing to do. You know, you make a mix tape
- 38:34for somebody that was you know a really cool gesture to do
- 38:39something like that. Yeah, I really appreciate it.
- 38:42And you know, now what it is is you go and you make a real and
- 38:44you put music on, oh, how times have changed.
- 38:48No more 8tracks, you know, no more 8tracks.
- 38:51You really went back a trap. Yeah.
- 38:54Okay. Y'all don't even listen to that
- 38:56headed out. 33s, you know what? We used to listen to the record
- 39:01player and the 45s, I mean. Yeah man, that is back in the
- 39:06day but we hey, record players are coming back.
- 39:09Y'all. They are vinyl, is coming back,
- 39:12such a cool sound. I mean it's a different thing
- 39:15here. The instrument different, to me.
- 39:17Yeah, you know. And And even that they don't do
- 39:20music the same way because a lot of it's done computerized and
- 39:22stuff like that. And you know, we talked with
- 39:24friends and stuff like that and missing the heat really hearing
- 39:28the instruments and all of that stuff that went into making
- 39:31music 30 Seconds to Mars, we used to watch them and watch the
- 39:36process of music and stuff, and how all that was important and
- 39:39how it would come together and things.
- 39:41So it's just really one of those fun things, but most
- 39:44importantly, it is the healing of it is when we do Listen to it
- 39:49and we were truly let it come to us and and move us in the way
- 39:55that it maybe it's meant to move us.
- 39:57What can be, you know, can rejuvenate you and all of those
- 40:01things and I think sometimes, you know, music helps set
- 40:04people's intentions and things. I mean sometimes, you know, you
- 40:08put on a song just to get into that creative headspace, you
- 40:12know, people do that too. And it is.
- 40:15And so I guess today, The message is is to find that music
- 40:23that truly helps us to heal, whether it's healing to feel
- 40:27alive, the happiness in it, understanding that music has the
- 40:31ability to move us through emotion.
- 40:34I mean, it can take us every single place of emotion and in
- 40:40doing so that shows you the power of something, the power of
- 40:45music to take us through emotion.
- 40:48To bring us up, bring us down and everything in between that
- 40:54is power and but to use it. And how many times in my
- 40:59practice that we have used music as a healing tool music to deal
- 41:06in grief and loss music to take us out of those places of trauma
- 41:11or whatever, that is music to communicate.
- 41:14I mean, they even yes, music with the hearing impaired.
- 41:18Through the vibration different thing.
- 41:20You know what they can pick up through that.
- 41:22I mean, it's it's really cool to take here.
- 41:26Even, you know the therapeutic piece of what they can do with
- 41:31music. So, you know, take a moment, I
- 41:35think it should be daily, but hey, let's not push it.
