Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: My guest is Regina Bell, with an illustrious career spanning
- 0:04Speaker 1: thirty five years, chart topping singer, songwriter, and Grammy Award
- 0:07Speaker 1: winning singer. Regina Bell is back, this time with a
- 0:10Speaker 1: festive and beautifully soul for holiday album titled My Colorful Christmas.
- 0:15Speaker 1: The ten track album, which is on sale now from
- 0:18Speaker 1: Bell's record record label Toshi Entertainment, proves that no matter
- 0:23Speaker 1: the genre R and B, jazz, gospel, or even holiday music,
- 0:27Speaker 1: everything she touches turns to go. On today's show, we're
- 0:30Speaker 1: going to talk about her new album, About My Colorful Christmas,
- 0:34Speaker 1: the lead single a Cradle in Bethlehem, one of her
- 0:37Speaker 1: and my favorite holiday songs from the great Natkin Co
- 0:41Speaker 1: Holiday Classic. We will discuss a career spanning more than
- 0:44Speaker 1: thirty or five years, family, faith, in marriage, please working
- 0:46Speaker 1: to money making conversation masterclass. Regina Bell, How are you doing?
- 0:51Speaker 1: I'm doing great? How are you awesome? You know, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 1: we got a lot of talk about. But then when
- 0:56Speaker 1: I mentioned my favorite a Cradle in Bethlehem, the the
- 1:00Speaker 1: lead single on your album, My Colorful Grist, you hugged yourself.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Why did you do that? Regina is the greatest song,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and I've loved it since I was a child. Um,
- 1:12Speaker 1: you know everybody loves chest nuts, this nuts first thing
- 1:15Speaker 1: on an open side. But but my favorite song has
- 1:19Speaker 1: always been A Cradle in Bethlehem. And when I say that,
- 1:23Speaker 1: most people don't even know that song. So when you
- 1:25Speaker 1: when you embraced it and told me that it was
- 1:27Speaker 1: your favorite as well, Oh my gosh, we're kindred spirits already.
- 1:31Speaker 1: You know. You know I got the classic Downpad done
- 1:34Speaker 1: the Hathaway, I love them, I love it. But this song, yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 1: you know it's it's a tribute to his brilliance. I'm
- 1:42Speaker 1: talking about Matt Kin as a singer, as a person
- 1:45Speaker 1: who he took the simple and made it special and
- 1:48Speaker 1: made an emotional and that's what a Cradle in Bethlehem.
- 1:51Speaker 1: And I was excited because sometimes you need to redo
- 1:55Speaker 1: songs to reintroduce him into another era people, And this
- 2:00Speaker 1: is the air I think needs a song like a
- 2:02Speaker 1: Cradlin Bethnham. And for it to come out on your
- 2:05Speaker 1: Christmas album is I think it's amazing and fantax and congratulations, Regina,
- 2:09Speaker 1: thank you so much, thank you so much. I I
- 2:12Speaker 1: have loved this song for so many years. So you know, obviously,
- 2:16Speaker 1: when I got ready to put my own flavor to it,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I wanted to make sure that I didn't do anything
- 2:22Speaker 1: that was going to insult, you know, the genre. But
- 2:25Speaker 1: I also wanted to say, well, I want to put
- 2:28Speaker 1: a little Regina on it, thank you. Uh, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I had to put a little jazz in there. It's
- 2:34Speaker 1: a little R and B is some gospel. I mean
- 2:36Speaker 1: you can hear all of the flavor, all of the genres. Uh.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know that that are that I embraced that you
- 2:44Speaker 1: hear me sing all the time whenever I sing a song.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So um, I was really really pleased with the outcome.
- 2:51Speaker 1: You know, here's the thing, the interesting thing about you,
- 2:53Speaker 1: because you know I have been a part of your
- 2:56Speaker 1: thirty five year career. Okay, and um and and blessed
- 3:00Speaker 1: to hear your greatness and see your beauty, your natural
- 3:03Speaker 1: beauty and music videos on live television, on television and
- 3:07Speaker 1: the live concerts. You know that in your your statuere
- 3:11Speaker 1: you project, you know, in a very profound manner, and
- 3:16Speaker 1: you said, I gotta put a little Regina on it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You know what is a little Regina on it? Regina Bell?
- 3:21Speaker 1: What is that you gotta Regina rize, you know, because
- 3:27Speaker 1: because that's because when you're reginaizing it, it really makes
- 3:30Speaker 1: it unique. And the reason I say that is that
- 3:33Speaker 1: opt her promotions where on the show Tambler Man and
- 3:38Speaker 1: Regina Belle, you know that's another show. Did I on
- 3:41Speaker 1: the show The Old Jays and Regina Bell? I've been
- 3:45Speaker 1: going like, how are you doing this? You know on
- 3:49Speaker 1: the show? You know on the show you know Terry
- 3:52Speaker 1: Lane Carrington and Regina Bell. You know, this is just
- 3:56Speaker 1: unique genres that you're all in into and and and
- 4:02Speaker 1: and excelling in. So how is that possible? Regina Bell?
- 4:07Speaker 1: I have to say, it's the Almighty is it has
- 4:10Speaker 1: nothing to do with me? Um. I give God all
- 4:15Speaker 1: the credit. UM. I do thank God for the opportunity.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And I have embraced every opportunity. I put in the
- 4:24Speaker 1: hard work. I work. You well know, Rashaan can't just
- 4:28Speaker 1: pop up one day and say I want to do this,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and you know, put your mind, your heart, your soul
- 4:35Speaker 1: and your gift into what it is that you're doing. Um.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And that's what I did. I Uh, I was born
- 4:42Speaker 1: with the gift to sing, but I wanted to polish
- 4:45Speaker 1: the gift you know, you can get a diamond, you
- 4:48Speaker 1: can get a nine carrot diamond, right, and it can
- 4:51Speaker 1: be full of flaws, it can have all kind of
- 4:53Speaker 1: carbons in it. But when it's cut away, when you
- 4:56Speaker 1: cut away all of the impurities and and make that
- 5:00Speaker 1: diamond shine the way it should and the light passes
- 5:03Speaker 1: through it, you know, the four carrot diamond is actually
- 5:07Speaker 1: more expensive than the nine carrot because of the brilliance
- 5:11Speaker 1: of it, because it is because of its perfection. And
- 5:16Speaker 1: so I was born with the gift. But I couldn't
- 5:19Speaker 1: stop there. I had to put in some work. So
- 5:21Speaker 1: I studied music, play instruments coming up ranging from trombone, baritone, tuba,
- 5:29Speaker 1: uh and steal drums. And I took vocal lessons with
- 5:34Speaker 1: Ingle Wolf at the Manhattan School of Music UM for
- 5:38Speaker 1: Preparatory College in New York. And then I went on
- 5:41Speaker 1: to Rutgish University and I studied piano with Kenny Brown,
- 5:45Speaker 1: so famous jazz pianists, and so I have um, I've
- 5:50Speaker 1: run the gamut, and I've been able to you know,
- 5:53Speaker 1: rough shoulders with some greats like George Duke, being able
- 5:56Speaker 1: to be in the studio with the late great George
- 5:58Speaker 1: Duke Um for My Lazy Afternoon CD. I've been in
- 6:02Speaker 1: the studio with Pastor Shirley Caesar, which is you know
- 6:06Speaker 1: the reason why I'm singing. You know, I patterned my
- 6:09Speaker 1: whole singing style when I first started singing after her
- 6:13Speaker 1: and Donnie Halfaway and Billie Holiday, so you know, bringing
- 6:17Speaker 1: all of that together, Um, I found Regina Bell. And
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's been my mantra that even at my worst, I'm
- 6:28Speaker 1: still number one, being myself at best. Trying to be
- 6:33Speaker 1: somebody else, I can only be at best number two.
- 6:36Speaker 1: So I try to maintain my sound and all that
- 6:40Speaker 1: I do, even if I do jazz, even if I
- 6:43Speaker 1: do R and B, even if if I do gospel,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I always have to be quintessential Regina Bell, and that's
- 6:49Speaker 1: worked for me all through the years. You know, my
- 6:52Speaker 1: life is really interesting, Regina, because you know, you know,
- 6:55Speaker 1: some people say, you know, they look at who I
- 6:57Speaker 1: am and they put me in a certain category as
- 6:59Speaker 1: success asks. But I've just been a regular dude all
- 7:02Speaker 1: my life, you know what I'm saying, And so I've looked,
- 7:04Speaker 1: but I've looked at you, you know, you know, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: being able to have an interview, you interview you at
- 7:09Speaker 1: this level about your career and look at where my career.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It's all about a journey. And I always tell people
- 7:15Speaker 1: that I look at when I was twenty and then
- 7:18Speaker 1: I didn't really see forty. When I looked at thirty,
- 7:20Speaker 1: I didn't really see fifty because it's about a career,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you know, because you know, you know even now, you go,
- 7:28Speaker 1: am I gonna make it to seventy and eighty career wise?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Because you know what it took to get to this point?
- 7:33Speaker 1: How do you put that in perspective? Because you know
- 7:36Speaker 1: you just right off the early years, you know, when
- 7:38Speaker 1: you just out there just being Regina. You know, I
- 7:40Speaker 1: always tell people between the ages of eighteen and twenty four,
- 7:43Speaker 1: you just being you. It's after twenty four that decisions
- 7:47Speaker 1: can be made for you, or you can make a
- 7:49Speaker 1: decision that can take you off your path. And that's
- 7:52Speaker 1: when that career conversation comes into play. And then the
- 7:55Speaker 1: next thing, you look up thirty or five years later,
- 7:57Speaker 1: we're talking now about your career, but you're also talking
- 7:59Speaker 1: about your future. Because we had a beautiful holiday album
- 8:02Speaker 1: next Time and I called my Colorful Christmas. How do
- 8:05Speaker 1: you talk about your career perspective? When you talk about,
- 8:08Speaker 1: you know, before twenty four and then after twenty four. Well,
- 8:12Speaker 1: it's interesting you say that, because even though I was
- 8:15Speaker 1: just kind of being Regina the I still made very
- 8:19Speaker 1: important decisions, especially as it pertains to my image. Um,
- 8:25Speaker 1: it was very important to me to maintain a certain image.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And it's not to knock anybody else, but you know, UM,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I sat at the feet of Nancy Wilson and free
- 8:35Speaker 1: to pain, and I got I glean knowledge from them.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And one of the things that Nancy told me is
- 8:42Speaker 1: that you know, everybody can't take their clothes off, and
- 8:46Speaker 1: that you know at the end of the day, she said,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I want you to get your accolades for your gift.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I want you to get your accolades for what you
- 8:55Speaker 1: have inside and the prize that God has given you.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And and they based on that. It's not it's not
- 9:01Speaker 1: to say that you can't have gimmicks and things in
- 9:04Speaker 1: your show, but at the end of the day, let
- 9:07Speaker 1: the people go home with a piece of you, and
- 9:11Speaker 1: you will your career will span the years. And so
- 9:15Speaker 1: I tried to make decisions throughout my life, even as
- 9:19Speaker 1: a twenty five year old, even as a thirty five
- 9:22Speaker 1: year old. Even as a forty five year old, I
- 9:25Speaker 1: tried to make decisions that always appeal to who I
- 9:29Speaker 1: am and where I want to be. So it wasn't
- 9:33Speaker 1: just about I don't think I've ever just thought about
- 9:36Speaker 1: where I am. I always kind of thought about where
- 9:40Speaker 1: am I going? What what do I what? Where? Where
- 9:43Speaker 1: do I want to end up? What do what? Whe
- 9:44Speaker 1: do I want to be? You know? Um? Uh? If
- 9:48Speaker 1: I do this, how will that translate years down the road?
- 9:52Speaker 1: Will that be a classic? Or whether that end up
- 9:54Speaker 1: being fat music? You know? Um? And So making those
- 9:57Speaker 1: kinds of decisions in terms of image, in terms of
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know, showing up for a picture here versus being
- 10:05Speaker 1: at my daughter's graduation. I ate those decisions to say,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I know that's an important place to be and that
- 10:13Speaker 1: it may add to my career, but guess what, I
- 10:16Speaker 1: get one chance to be at my daughter's graduation. I'm
- 10:18Speaker 1: going to the graduation. Take a chance on it if
- 10:21Speaker 1: it comes around, and it's great if it doesn't. Find
- 10:25Speaker 1: and I've made those important decisions and I'm I'm happy
- 10:28Speaker 1: with my life. I wouldn't trade my life for anybody.
- 10:31Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more money making conversations Masterclass
- 10:34Speaker 1: with Rashan McDonald. Now let's return to money making conversations
- 10:40Speaker 1: Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Your brand, that's what we're talking about.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Your brand. And for Nancy wasn't free to prain with
- 10:47Speaker 1: the boys? I can see it right now and so
- 10:49Speaker 1: trained singing, you know, bring the boys home, free to pray?
- 10:53Speaker 1: You know, you know, because that's see, that's a that's
- 10:55Speaker 1: a brand. Because I don't know what she did off
- 10:58Speaker 1: in her personal life. I don't know who she dated,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, did she did? She party?
- 11:03Speaker 1: And then? But some great artists, you know, they're off screen,
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's sometimes dominate their talents that they produced to us
- 11:12Speaker 1: on screen. And that's what we're talking about. You, your brand,
- 11:15Speaker 1: we're talking about you know, what do you want to
- 11:17Speaker 1: be remembered from. I'm just only remembering you from your
- 11:20Speaker 1: great music. I remember you from a stage when you
- 11:23Speaker 1: when I when you performed for me. When I left
- 11:26Speaker 1: that venue, I took your music with I took your
- 11:29Speaker 1: elegance with me. I took your your presentation with me.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That's all I remember. And that's what you want As
- 11:35Speaker 1: an artist. You don't want you you don't want what
- 11:38Speaker 1: you do off stage, who your dating, who he's shaking,
- 11:40Speaker 1: And sometimes when you're getting drunk, you're getting pulled over
- 11:44Speaker 1: to undermine what your gifts. And that's what you That's
- 11:48Speaker 1: what Nasy Wilson was saying to you you. That's what Free
- 11:50Speaker 1: the Pain was telling you. Don't let don't undermine your
- 11:52Speaker 1: gifts that God gave you by being immature. Yes, yes,
- 11:57Speaker 1: that's exactly what they were telling me. And they were
- 12:00Speaker 1: telling me that you're this is what you're selling. You're
- 12:03Speaker 1: selling music, you're selling gifts, You're selling a story. You
- 12:07Speaker 1: you want people to buy into your story. When every
- 12:11Speaker 1: every time somebody comes to your concert, they're coming into
- 12:15Speaker 1: your living room. What do you want to have prepared
- 12:17Speaker 1: for them at your home? What do you want to
- 12:20Speaker 1: talk about? What do you want to you know? What
- 12:22Speaker 1: is your presentation? What do you want to display? And
- 12:26Speaker 1: and those things were the things that I thought about
- 12:29Speaker 1: that I still continue to think about UH as I
- 12:33Speaker 1: go from stage to stage, from city to city, from
- 12:35Speaker 1: state to state, country to country. These are the things
- 12:38Speaker 1: that I think about. UM. I got a chance to
- 12:42Speaker 1: expand a little bit UH last year being in Kirk
- 12:46Speaker 1: Franklin's UM Christmas Movie, and that was amazing because so
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know, you know, different things are opening up for
- 12:59Speaker 1: me to be able to do UM as a result
- 13:02Speaker 1: of you know, this gift making room for me and
- 13:05Speaker 1: opening up other doors for me. So I'm excited about it. Um,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to what the future holds. Uh. This
- 13:14Speaker 1: Christmas record is just a little piece of me. This
- 13:18Speaker 1: is my favorite time of year. Uh, not necessarily for
- 13:22Speaker 1: the commercialism of it, but because it's a time when
- 13:26Speaker 1: a lot of us as family come together. You know,
- 13:29Speaker 1: we get a chance to sit down, we get a
- 13:31Speaker 1: break from the crazy. UM, people are a little bit nicer. UM,
- 13:36Speaker 1: we exchange gifts, we get to show each other how
- 13:39Speaker 1: much we love one another. And so it's it's Um,
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's my favorite time of being, always has been. And
- 13:45Speaker 1: so this music being able to do this at this time. Uh,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I can't even tell you, Shana, how it warms my heart. UM.
- 13:55Speaker 1: My brother who passed away in June was a big
- 13:59Speaker 1: part of this, and um, this is a piece of
- 14:02Speaker 1: him that I get to carry with me for the
- 14:05Speaker 1: rest of my life. Well, I want to just commend
- 14:08Speaker 1: you your articulation. And it was it was moving and
- 14:11Speaker 1: impacted me and I wanted to tell you some Regina. Uh,
- 14:15Speaker 1: this show has been a sometimes a blessing for me.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I get to interview individuals like you and um, and
- 14:22Speaker 1: I get to share with the public a story that
- 14:25Speaker 1: they might not have heard all the All they know
- 14:28Speaker 1: is just the artists the artist, and you know, they
- 14:30Speaker 1: don't know about the family, don't know about the long
- 14:33Speaker 1: term marriage. And they hear things like where were Gina been?
- 14:37Speaker 1: You know, Regina been raised five Kidsina been a been
- 14:41Speaker 1: a wife. Regina live in the Atlanta area. She's been living,
- 14:45Speaker 1: she's been doing, living a successful life and guess what
- 14:48Speaker 1: for thirty five years, she's been still having a career.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And I remember I remember once, Um, you know Steve
- 14:54Speaker 1: harperd when I was managing at the time, we did
- 14:56Speaker 1: this contract with the Radio one and he was doing
- 15:00Speaker 1: morning drive in l A. And we did that contract
- 15:04Speaker 1: because of the fact that we gotta check every week.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So that allowed us to do what we wanted to do.
- 15:12Speaker 1: We didn't have to jump out there and do every
- 15:14Speaker 1: movie that was offered to us. We don't have to
- 15:17Speaker 1: jump out there and take every concert check. But people
- 15:19Speaker 1: started saying, what what what happened to Steve Harvey? You know,
- 15:23Speaker 1: Cindric out there, Bernie mac at that dal out there now, Steve.
- 15:26Speaker 1: We were clock and checks and planning our career and planning.
- 15:31Speaker 1: So that's all. I'm just chilling there. She she found
- 15:34Speaker 1: a great man. Okay, she started having beautiful kids. She
- 15:39Speaker 1: started controlling her destiny. Which once you started controlling your destiny,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you can pick a choose. Yeah, when you want to
- 15:46Speaker 1: do what you wanna do? Am I right? Regina? You
- 15:49Speaker 1: are you? Are you? You hit the nail on the head.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I can't tell you. Um. I married my husband, uh
- 15:57Speaker 1: thirty one years ago. I'm John Sydney battle Um, former
- 16:03Speaker 1: Hawks and Cavaliers basketball player. And we actually met each
- 16:08Speaker 1: other at Rutgers University where we were both going to school,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and he was my best friend for you know, years
- 16:17Speaker 1: before we got married. So we were best friends for
- 16:20Speaker 1: a nine years before we got before we went on
- 16:23Speaker 1: a date. How about that look that says something somebody
- 16:29Speaker 1: who's listening to this show, listen him being my friend?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Is it speaks miles, Because when I tell people that
- 16:41Speaker 1: we've never ever gotten to an argument where we cussed
- 16:44Speaker 1: each other out, some folks look and say, what y'all
- 16:49Speaker 1: ain't no? No, Because he started out as my best
- 16:53Speaker 1: friend and even when we're in the midst of a disagreement,
- 16:58Speaker 1: we have to bactfully disagree and so that I think
- 17:03Speaker 1: that friendship speaks volumes into our marriage. Um. It helped
- 17:09Speaker 1: us to raise our children. Uh. They they are. We
- 17:13Speaker 1: have a foundation that goes beyond our careers. And I
- 17:17Speaker 1: think that's really really important because we don't get caught
- 17:20Speaker 1: up in the height we we we know who we are. Um,
- 17:24Speaker 1: folks say, oh my gods, what Gina Belle and I said,
- 17:26Speaker 1: We just folks. And I'm making that from my whole heart.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Just folks. UM. My mother has always told me, and
- 17:33Speaker 1: it's something that I carry with me every day of
- 17:36Speaker 1: my life. She says that your reputation walks in the
- 17:39Speaker 1: door before you get there. Um. These are pearls wisdom
- 17:43Speaker 1: that I hold onto and they help. They helped my buoyancy.
- 17:47Speaker 1: They helped keep me my head above water. They keep
- 17:50Speaker 1: me afloat because it never allows me to get caught
- 17:54Speaker 1: up in the moment so much so that I forget
- 17:57Speaker 1: who I am. Raising my family was important because at
- 18:02Speaker 1: the end of the day, when something doesn't go right,
- 18:04Speaker 1: that's who I run to. I can't run to the
- 18:07Speaker 1: one who I signed an autograph for. I can't to
- 18:10Speaker 1: the Grammy because the grammar is not gonna talk to me.
- 18:12Speaker 1: You know, Celebrity is not going to do much for
- 18:15Speaker 1: me when I'm going through what I'm going through. But
- 18:18Speaker 1: it's my family that embraces me and that knows me
- 18:21Speaker 1: for who I am. And it's not expecting Regina Bell
- 18:24Speaker 1: the stage person, but basically embrace in Gina the family member.
- 18:28Speaker 1: You know. So that that means when you talked about that,
- 18:32Speaker 1: you know, being able to be home raise your family. Uh,
- 18:36Speaker 1: that that speaks volumes because again that's the thing that
- 18:39Speaker 1: keeps me level and keeps me keeps my head right.
- 18:42Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 18:46Speaker 1: with Rashan McDonald. Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations
- 18:52Speaker 1: Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Let's get back to the album
- 18:57Speaker 1: and uh, guards to ten songs Holiday because I'm telling
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know, I got my favorites. And then, like I said,
- 19:05Speaker 1: when this album came across my desk a cradle in Bethlehem,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I went, you gotta be kid in me. You got
- 19:12Speaker 1: to be kid in me, that kik because you know
- 19:15Speaker 1: you always go, well, it's only more Beathley Ham, you
- 19:19Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And what other what other classics
- 19:22Speaker 1: or did you do any original songs Christopher songs on
- 19:26Speaker 1: the on the Timber records that you're dropping on this
- 19:28Speaker 1: particular album. No, I honestly didn't. There's one original song
- 19:33Speaker 1: on there, but it's not necessarily a Christmas song. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: I'll talk a little bit more about that. Okay, let's talk.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But I really wanted to do the familiar Christmas songs, UM,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and I wanted to involve my family. So my my
- 19:49Speaker 1: son is playing drums on a couple of the tunes,
- 19:52Speaker 1: M my nephews playing um drums U Jamal Bell, my
- 19:58Speaker 1: son Jalen Battle, and then my two daughters, Sydney and Nyla. UM.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Sydney singing a baby changes everything, and Nyla's singing the
- 20:08Speaker 1: first Noel. And so I really wanted to make it
- 20:12Speaker 1: a family affair because of That's why I call it
- 20:14Speaker 1: My Colorful Christmas, because there's so many colors of what
- 20:18Speaker 1: I love. You know, UM, the music is colorful because
- 20:22Speaker 1: like I said, we incorporated the jazz, the gospel, the
- 20:27Speaker 1: the the everything all that I love. UM. And then
- 20:31Speaker 1: I incorporated members of my family, but then they come
- 20:34Speaker 1: in with a whole different another flames. So Nylas sings
- 20:38Speaker 1: differently than Sydney sings. Uh, Jamal plays drums differently than
- 20:44Speaker 1: than Jalen plays trumps. So then we got a little
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, a little Calypso Soca uh all little town
- 20:52Speaker 1: of beth lehand um. So. So you know, we call
- 20:55Speaker 1: it my Colorful Christmas because we added some colors of music.
- 20:58Speaker 1: We added um, colors of uh styles we added, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: added different members of a family. Um uh. And the
- 21:07Speaker 1: one song that I wanted to talk to you about
- 21:10Speaker 1: is the last song. It's called a song from Bernie
- 21:14Speaker 1: and that is my brother. For those of you that
- 21:15Speaker 1: don't know, Bernard bell Is produced millions of records that
- 21:22Speaker 1: have got above, above and beyond um from Michael Jackson's
- 21:27Speaker 1: Remember the Time to Whitney and Bobby we have something
- 21:31Speaker 1: in common along with Teddy Riley um uh, myself, uh,
- 21:37Speaker 1: Patti La Belle Boy, George case Jahim. I mean the
- 21:42Speaker 1: list goes on. The wins. He my brother, was truly
- 21:45Speaker 1: amazing um and this song is the last song that
- 21:50Speaker 1: he and I did together. And I'm trying not to
- 21:52Speaker 1: get you know, tearry out about it. But it's the
- 21:54Speaker 1: last song that he and I did together, and it's
- 21:57Speaker 1: a song that basically speaks UM from those that have
- 22:01Speaker 1: gone on from and mostly I. I really wanted to
- 22:05Speaker 1: do it because of COVID. COVID had us to realize
- 22:08Speaker 1: some things that we had taken for granted, like being
- 22:11Speaker 1: able to have a homegoing service, and and realizing what
- 22:15Speaker 1: it meant to us to have people come in from
- 22:17Speaker 1: other cities, other states to hug us and tell us
- 22:20Speaker 1: how much they love us and how much they love
- 22:22Speaker 1: your loved one. UM. Not being able to do that
- 22:26Speaker 1: during COVID it was traumatic, not being able to touch
- 22:30Speaker 1: our loved ones who were sick and in the hospital,
- 22:32Speaker 1: and sometimes we they passed on and we never got
- 22:35Speaker 1: a chance to kind of bring closure to anything until
- 22:38Speaker 1: they were gone. UM. This song simply says for all
- 22:42Speaker 1: of you. I've been a caregiver for many years. UM.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I was an ambassador for a a r P for
- 22:49Speaker 1: many years. UM, and I at the same time of
- 22:52Speaker 1: having a career with Shine with my mom, I was
- 22:55Speaker 1: caring for my mom, my dad, and my brother. UM. Meanwhile,
- 23:00Speaker 1: a husband and I pastor in two churches. I was
- 23:02Speaker 1: on the road and in seminary. So you bet a
- 23:05Speaker 1: holler at your girl. Okay, A lot going on with
- 23:09Speaker 1: five kids and four grandkids. Yeah, so there's a lot
- 23:13Speaker 1: going on. So this song simply says um. It says
- 23:17Speaker 1: I had to leave, and it's basically saying that there's
- 23:20Speaker 1: nothing more you could do. I know, as caregivers, we
- 23:22Speaker 1: always feel like was there. You know, maybe I could
- 23:26Speaker 1: have scheduled one more doctor's appointment and would have changed things.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Maybe I could have had one more visit or something. Um.
- 23:33Speaker 1: But you know, the song says I had to leave,
- 23:35Speaker 1: meaning that my assignment here was up. It was my time.
- 23:42Speaker 1: It was nothing else that you could do for me.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Thank you for everything you did. Um, I love you,
- 23:47Speaker 1: but I had to leave. And so the song is
- 23:49Speaker 1: a little sad, but it's something that helps us to embrace, um,
- 23:54Speaker 1: the feeling of loss with our loved ones that have
- 23:58Speaker 1: passed on. Wow, I'm talking to Regina Bell, you know
- 24:01Speaker 1: at lustrous career span more than thirty or five years,
- 24:03Speaker 1: chart topping singer songwriter, Grammy Award winner, she's back. Well
- 24:08Speaker 1: should I say they were? I think that's in there.
- 24:09Speaker 1: So so she's back. She actually has another project that
- 24:12Speaker 1: she's delivering to the forefront of the entertainment business is
- 24:16Speaker 1: from her record Labor She Entertainment. It's called A Colorful
- 24:20Speaker 1: Christmas and and and it's a holiday album that's going
- 24:23Speaker 1: to I think I would say it's a game changing
- 24:26Speaker 1: for me because of the fact that it's allowing me
- 24:29Speaker 1: to hear music that sometimes, you know, because you know,
- 24:31Speaker 1: they only play popular songs on the radio. There's a
- 24:35Speaker 1: few of the like ten they just play over and
- 24:37Speaker 1: over and over, and then you have to go sometimes
- 24:39Speaker 1: to like Sirius XM and then go, that's my song. Well,
- 24:42Speaker 1: this song here a Cradle in Bethlehem is on my
- 24:46Speaker 1: It's on my you know, my my playlists. So even
- 24:49Speaker 1: when it's not Christmas, I listened to this song and
- 24:52Speaker 1: so to hear on your album is a blessing. To
- 24:55Speaker 1: have this honest conversation, Regine. I hope it resonated with me.
- 24:59Speaker 1: It was powerful. It allowed me to speak to somebody
- 25:02Speaker 1: that I've always seen from Afar and the journey that
- 25:05Speaker 1: you've taken, and you have made Nancy Wilson proud, my friend. Okay,
- 25:10Speaker 1: you have followed her words and understanding that it's about
- 25:15Speaker 1: your brand, and when you walk off that stage, let
- 25:18Speaker 1: what walked off as what we heard, what we experienced
- 25:21Speaker 1: in that venue. When you go on that poolpit at
- 25:23Speaker 1: those two churches, let people understand that the message you're
- 25:27Speaker 1: giving is what you want to resonate in their hearts
- 25:30Speaker 1: and uplift them in their community. You are a blessing
- 25:33Speaker 1: Regina Bell. And the fact that you come off with
- 25:35Speaker 1: a my colorful Christmas album led by the first single,
- 25:38Speaker 1: A Cradle in Bethlehem, tell everybody if we go where

- 26:00Speaker 1: find me. Or you can go to Apple Music, uh

- 26:09Speaker 1: You can stream it, just play it, play it because

- 26:23Speaker 1: that out. It's on my own record label, Tashi three Entertainment. Uh.
- 26:28Speaker 1: But uh, it was definitely a challenge, but it was
- 26:33Speaker 1: also a labor of love. So I'm really excited about
- 26:37Speaker 1: this because it's my first full project on my own
- 26:40Speaker 1: record label. So you know you can still do it.
