- 2:08Speaker 1: I say this every episode. It's really time to stop
- 2:11Speaker 1: reading other people's success stories and what do I say,
- 2:14Speaker 1: start writing your own. And I always tell people talk
- 2:17Speaker 1: about passion, they talk about gifts. If you have gifts,
- 2:19Speaker 1: lead with them and don't let your age, friends, family,
- 2:22Speaker 1: or coworkers stop you from planning or living your dreams.
- 2:25Speaker 1: The interviews I do own Money Making Conversations can be

- 2:33Speaker 1: You can use them because I give your access to celebrities, CEOs,
- 2:36Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and people I like to call industry decision makers.
- 2:39Speaker 1: It's about their secrets. I asked them to share their
- 2:41Speaker 1: journey on my show, and if you get some wisdom
- 2:44Speaker 1: out of that journey, there has been a blessing. And
- 2:46Speaker 1: the blessing is I'm able to deliver this show every
- 2:49Speaker 1: week and it's called Money Making Conversations. My next guest
- 2:51Speaker 1: is a longtime friend. Her name is Nicki Walton. Nick
- 2:54Speaker 1: is the best selling and nuble A CP Award winning
- 2:57Speaker 1: nominated author, TV personality for the podcast, host which we
- 3:01Speaker 1: will talk about in detail, licensed psychotherapists which we'll talk
- 3:04Speaker 1: about in detail. In two thousand and eight, Walton launched
- 3:07Speaker 1: curly Nikki dot com, which became the number one natural
- 3:10Speaker 1: hair care blog site in the world, reaching millions of
- 3:14Speaker 1: women in over thirty countries and influencing the marketing and
- 3:17Speaker 1: formulation of products for major beauty brands. In one Walton
- 3:22Speaker 1: launched Nikki That Is Good Mornings with Curly Nikki, a
- 3:25Speaker 1: daily morning show to help listeners find peace and chaos
- 3:29Speaker 1: and light and darkness. It debates in the Top five
- 3:32Speaker 1: and spirituality on Apple Podcasts. Nikki Walton is dedicated to
- 3:35Speaker 1: helping people find freedom through their natural hair, healthier lifestyle choices,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and ultimately through their spiritual enlightenment. Please work with the
- 3:44Speaker 1: money making conversation. It's been too long, which fouling. She
- 3:46Speaker 1: has arrived. Nikki Walton, Thank you, thank you, so honored
- 3:51Speaker 1: to be here. You have a powerful, powerful platform. I
- 3:54Speaker 1: absolutely appreciate everything you do to keep us all inspired,
- 3:58Speaker 1: push for greater, like it up, always level it up. Well,
- 4:01Speaker 1: you know, I thank you, thank you. You know, we've
- 4:03Speaker 1: we've known that on each other for a long time.
- 4:05Speaker 1: You know, when Steve and I was at HarperCollins and
- 4:08Speaker 1: who was introduced when your first book came out and
- 4:11Speaker 1: uh and and I want to start there. I want
- 4:13Speaker 1: to start there because of the natural hair care boom,
- 4:17Speaker 1: which I like to believe you were in front of,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and now it seems to be. You know, we've seen lawsuits,
- 4:24Speaker 1: we've seen uh, we've seen corporate structures change, we've seen
- 4:28Speaker 1: the military service change their standards. With that being said,
- 4:33Speaker 1: let's talk about that journey that started, and it started
- 4:36Speaker 1: before two thousand and eight, but then you launch your
- 4:38Speaker 1: site curly Nikki dot com and two thousand and eight. So,
- 4:42Speaker 1: but a lot of people question your journey, your decision
- 4:45Speaker 1: and said, hey, what's wrong with straight hair? You never
- 4:47Speaker 1: said it was anything wrong with straight hair or processed
- 4:50Speaker 1: hair or permed hair. It just say why can't I
- 4:53Speaker 1: do it naturally correct exact, Let's get some healthy options
- 4:57Speaker 1: and versatility. I've never been anti straight hair, or anti weed,
- 5:02Speaker 1: or even anti relaxing. I just wanted to show women
- 5:05Speaker 1: that they had the option to embrace and work with
- 5:08Speaker 1: their texture, which can truly improve your quality of life.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean, I grew up being afraid to get in
- 5:14Speaker 1: a swimming pool. I grew up being afraid to get
- 5:16Speaker 1: in the drop top car. I grew up being afraid
- 5:18Speaker 1: to go on vacation without a plan for my hair.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You know, you can't go to a job interview unless
- 5:23Speaker 1: you already know, like what I'm gonna do with my hair,
- 5:25Speaker 1: And when you're trying to figure that out, you're not
- 5:27Speaker 1: preparing for the interview itself, right, you're not on your
- 5:30Speaker 1: A game. So learning how to work with your hair,
- 5:34Speaker 1: learning and like learning how to appreciate it and feel
- 5:38Speaker 1: good in your own hair, freeze up some bandwidth to
- 5:42Speaker 1: be able to actually succeed and focus on the things
- 5:44Speaker 1: that need to So it's like it's it completely changes
- 5:48Speaker 1: your entire life when your hair isn't the foremost, the
- 5:51Speaker 1: foremost thought in your mind. Okay, let's listen to you.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I grew up with six sisters. Because I'm not saying
- 5:56Speaker 1: them authority on anybody's hair, especially my own. I don't
- 5:59Speaker 1: even have hair, Okay, so at some point I had it.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I had it, but I thought I was looking good.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I still think I'm looking good without it, So were
- 6:08Speaker 1: picking up at all? I thought I was a baby
- 6:10Speaker 1: Michael Jackson because we was the same age. So Mike
- 6:13Speaker 1: me going out there and grooving together. When when I
- 6:16Speaker 1: look at the one exactly because I want to really
- 6:20Speaker 1: get a clear definition with natural hairts because my mom,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you know, she would take a curling iron to my
- 6:26Speaker 1: sister's hair and straighten it out. Okay, now is that
- 6:30Speaker 1: the natural hair? That are we saying that that's what
- 6:33Speaker 1: straightening is? No, that is heat style. Natural hair. So
- 6:37Speaker 1: that's what I grew up with. We weren't allowed to
- 6:39Speaker 1: get terms or relaxers in my household. That was the
- 6:42Speaker 1: decision that we were gonna have to make, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: got out of the house. But eat sally. That's blow dryers,
- 6:47Speaker 1: that's hot curlers, that's pressing combs off, so that's flat iron.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You can eat sell your natural hair, but if you
- 6:53Speaker 1: don't do it carefully, and if you do it too much,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you can end up damaging your your natural hair. And
- 6:59Speaker 1: actually called it to eminently straightening up to throw that out,
- 7:02Speaker 1: or to just get dry and break off, which I
- 7:04Speaker 1: dealt with in college when I started playing with tea
- 7:07Speaker 1: too much. Right, and now then I'm gonna go to
- 7:09Speaker 1: my daughter. You know, she was a tennis prodigy, prodigy
- 7:12Speaker 1: and so you know, wanting to you know, you get
- 7:15Speaker 1: a process. So it was quick and easy. And I'm
- 7:19Speaker 1: not using terminology. You're not trying to get anybody mad, not,
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm just speaking Roushan point of reference. Okay, my sisters,
- 7:25Speaker 1: my next point of references my daughter. Okay, and I
- 7:29Speaker 1: would say that I did the permanent. We have to
- 7:32Speaker 1: stop because of the fact that it broke all our
- 7:34Speaker 1: hair out, okay, But we were doing it because it
- 7:37Speaker 1: was convenient. We were doing it because it lasts a
- 7:41Speaker 1: certain period of time. I didn't have to be bothered.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Is that what it is? That is that part of
- 7:47Speaker 1: the problem of women's subcompanien convenience as major that's all
- 7:52Speaker 1: of us. But the problem is why why is that
- 7:56Speaker 1: work convenient? And it's because of the standard society standard
- 7:59Speaker 1: that's straight hair is better. So it's convenient to get
- 8:02Speaker 1: a firm instead of h you know, get your hair
- 8:05Speaker 1: flatir because it's going to actually last longer. I might
- 8:08Speaker 1: withstand the humidity. If you'll get it wet, you know,
- 8:11Speaker 1: it'll stay straighter, you know, versus you having it pressed out.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So it's convenient if you're trying to mimic a certain
- 8:18Speaker 1: standard of beauty. But it's less convenient, you know, if
- 8:21Speaker 1: you're actually trying to work with the texture, Like my
- 8:23Speaker 1: hair doesn't grow. I don't mind scalp straight. You know,
- 8:25Speaker 1: if I worked with the highly textured coils and waves,
- 8:28Speaker 1: then it's convenient to do a twist out, you know,
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's convenient to keep it into it's it's convenient to
- 8:33Speaker 1: do a curly fun So it's just like we have
- 8:35Speaker 1: to change the way we think about stuff. On the
- 8:37Speaker 1: other hand, natural hair is a lot. Our hair is amazing,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and we are some of us are blessed with great density.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Like my daughter, her hair comes like it goes to her,
- 8:47Speaker 1: but that's how long it is. But it's three times
- 8:49Speaker 1: as thick as mine, and it takes like a whole Saturday.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And I would never let her know that it's a burden.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Like as it is. It takes from like nine am
- 8:59Speaker 1: until five for the selling process. I mean, so when
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'm doing her hair, it's like, oh, your hair is
- 9:04Speaker 1: support just oh my goodness, you have so much hair,
- 9:06Speaker 1: so trying to instill in her your hair is beautiful
- 9:09Speaker 1: as it is. You don't need to do anything to
- 9:11Speaker 1: be better. You're already perfect. It's finally here, the season
- 9:16Speaker 1: of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate with family
- 9:20Speaker 1: and friends, whether you're preparing for Reis magos or Karamu
- 9:23Speaker 1: lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass, Coals has
- 9:27Speaker 1: just what you need to make those traditions special. Plus
- 9:31Speaker 1: you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send warm
- 9:34Speaker 1: wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws support
- 9:38Speaker 1: minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from Human
- 9:42Speaker 1: Nation and Shame Moisture, or treat them to everyone's favorite
- 9:45Speaker 1: active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and under Armor.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares is donating
- 9:53Speaker 1: eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed to the
- 9:57Speaker 1: health and well being of our communities. No mat or
- 10:00Speaker 1: how you celebrate, when you shop at Coals, you're right
- 10:03Speaker 1: where you belong. So this season, give with all your
- 10:06Speaker 1: heart with great gifts from Coals or Coals dot com.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Adoption of teams from foster care is a topic not
- 10:13Speaker 1: enough people know about, and we're here to change that.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm April Dinuity, host of the new podcast Navigating Adoption,
- 10:19Speaker 1: presented by adopt us Kids. Each episode brings you compelling,
- 10:22Speaker 1: real life adoption stories told by the families that lived them,

- 10:36Speaker 1: of Health, that Human Services Administration for Children and Families,
- 10:38Speaker 1: and the ACT Council. And we're live here outside the
- 10:42Speaker 1: Perez family home, just waiting for them, and there they go,
- 10:46Speaker 1: almost on time. This morning, Mom is coming out the
- 10:49Speaker 1: front door, strong with a double arm kid carry. Looks
- 10:51Speaker 1: like dad has the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh,
- 10:55Speaker 1: but the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But mom has just nailed the perfect car seat buckle
- 11:05Speaker 1: for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who looks
- 11:08Speaker 1: to be about nine or ten, has secured herself in
- 11:10Speaker 1: the booster seat. Dead zips the bad clothes and they're off.
- 11:15Speaker 1: But looks like Mom doesn't realize her coffee cup is
- 11:17Speaker 1: still on the roof of the car and there it goes. Oh,
- 11:22Speaker 1: that's a shame that mug was a fan favorite. Don't
- 11:25Speaker 1: sweat the small stuff. Just nailed the big stuff, like
- 11:27Speaker 1: making sure your kids are buckled correctly in the right
- 11:29Speaker 1: seat for their agent's eyes. Learn more n h t
- 11:32Speaker 1: s A dot gov slash the Right Seat visits n
- 11:34Speaker 1: h s A dot gov slash the Right Seat brought
- 11:38Speaker 1: to you by NITZA and the ad Council. Now you
- 11:40Speaker 1: was he was talking about your hair from nine to
- 11:43Speaker 1: five and you and you empower her with the knowledge
- 11:45Speaker 1: that she's beautiful with her natural hair. Now, that empowerment
- 11:50Speaker 1: leads to a lot of adult conversations that you have
- 11:53Speaker 1: with women who aren't kids anymore, who may have kids,
- 11:57Speaker 1: who may have been um pushed in the in the
- 12:00Speaker 1: wrong direction about what beauty is. Because I always tell
- 12:04Speaker 1: people this is that what you, what you what do?
- 12:07Speaker 1: What people think of you can lead you in a
- 12:09Speaker 1: lot of different directions. If people are saying positive things
- 12:13Speaker 1: about you, then it can uplift you and motivate you
- 12:15Speaker 1: to success. If people drop a knowledge that you have
- 12:19Speaker 1: to look a certain way to appeal to a certain
- 12:21Speaker 1: lane of success, it also can diminish your success story
- 12:26Speaker 1: or opportunities because you feel if you're not looking like that,
- 12:29Speaker 1: how can you be successful exactly? Now, it's very very challenging,
- 12:33Speaker 1: and you have to find a center within yourself so
- 12:37Speaker 1: that yes, you received constructive criticisms, but that you're not
- 12:40Speaker 1: on a roller coaster going up and down with people
- 12:43Speaker 1: praising you or people putting you down. When I first
- 12:45Speaker 1: decided to go natural, my family was not for it,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and that it wasn't coming from a place of um hate,
- 12:52Speaker 1: It was coming from a place of protection. They wanted
- 12:55Speaker 1: to see me have the most, you know, opportunities to
- 12:58Speaker 1: get into the best schools, to get the best jobs.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And they honestly didn't think, because of the society that
- 13:03Speaker 1: we live in, that I would have the opportunity to
- 13:05Speaker 1: do that with my hair and looking like this, you know.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So they were like, no, no, no, re sacrificed so
- 13:10Speaker 1: much for you, just just where it's straight, and I couldn't.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I respect them and I love them, but I knew
- 13:18Speaker 1: that that advice wasn't something that I could take, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 1: because I was coming, I was beginning to come into
- 13:23Speaker 1: my own and into my self love. And I'm like,
- 13:25Speaker 1: if the world can't accept me how I was born,
- 13:28Speaker 1: If you know, this job or this school, this university
- 13:31Speaker 1: can't accept this in this package without it, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: being modified, then I don't need to be there. I'll
- 13:36Speaker 1: take it somewhere else and succeed there. And thankfully, you know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I paved away for myself and other women who look
- 13:43Speaker 1: like me to be able to stand in rooms and
- 13:45Speaker 1: stand in the light with their hair the way it
- 13:47Speaker 1: naturally grows. And if I want to straighten it tomorrow,
- 13:49Speaker 1: which I do, sometimes, I can do that and I'll
- 13:51Speaker 1: feel just as pretty that way, but now, thank god,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I own't. I don't only feel pretty when my hair
- 13:57Speaker 1: is straight because I went through that, you know, all
- 13:59Speaker 1: through col it. I only felt pretty when my hair
- 14:02Speaker 1: was straightened. And that's not healthy because that's not what
- 14:05Speaker 1: it looks like most of the time. You know. It's
- 14:07Speaker 1: really interesting because when I'm talking to I'm talking to
- 14:10Speaker 1: Nicki Walton, Um, founder of the Curly Nikki dot com website,
- 14:15Speaker 1: and I'd like to say, um movement, Let's let's say
- 14:18Speaker 1: curly Nikki dot com movement, because you know, but you know,
- 14:22Speaker 1: you have to deal with a lot. Let's let's go
- 14:24Speaker 1: and break it down when we talk about natural hair,
- 14:26Speaker 1: because natural hair within our black community, okay, you have
- 14:29Speaker 1: to deal with that, you know, and then you have
- 14:31Speaker 1: to each other and you have natural hair within the
- 14:35Speaker 1: white community, because they really didn't understand what's wrong with
- 14:38Speaker 1: your hair? While your hair all over the place? Why
- 14:41Speaker 1: is it so big? You know? So how do were
- 14:45Speaker 1: you able to because that's what they were worried about,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know. You know, as a parent, that's all I
- 14:49Speaker 1: worry about my daughter. I was just trying to give
- 14:51Speaker 1: her a better life, a better opportunity to not endure
- 14:55Speaker 1: the pain and suffering that I endure and if I
- 14:58Speaker 1: can get her there a lot better with the advice,
- 15:00Speaker 1: that's all they was doing. But in the process of
- 15:03Speaker 1: saying who you want to be, that was your community,
- 15:06Speaker 1: your people telling you know. So now you have your
- 15:10Speaker 1: community telling you know, and then you know. In the
- 15:12Speaker 1: real world, like we talked about, the military has changed
- 15:15Speaker 1: their laws you still read about periodically, or some athletes
- 15:19Speaker 1: or some student has been forced to change the hair.
- 15:21Speaker 1: The hair was cut during a wrestling match or sporting event.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Just cut their hair because it was natural and they
- 15:28Speaker 1: perceived that it would be a disadvantage for you to
- 15:31Speaker 1: go out there with natural hair. It would get in
- 15:33Speaker 1: the way. Now, with all that being said two thousand
- 15:37Speaker 1: and eight, which were thirteen years ago, it was uglier
- 15:41Speaker 1: back then. How did you break through the noise? You know,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I say, it's each individual. So when I would post
- 15:50Speaker 1: every single day Monday through Friday, three times a day
- 15:53Speaker 1: on curly Nick, I was reaching obviously millions of people.
- 15:57Speaker 1: But whenever I'm writing those articles, it's like I'm reaching
- 16:01Speaker 1: that one person that's on the other side of the screen,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and I know that she is going to be touched.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And then she's gonna take it to her real life network,
- 16:10Speaker 1: her real life She's gonna impact her mother, her sister,
- 16:13Speaker 1: her best friend, her cousin is they're gonna see her,
- 16:15Speaker 1: you know, applying the tips and the principles and the
- 16:18Speaker 1: love from the inside out, you know, and using these
- 16:21Speaker 1: products and getting great results. And her family, her network
- 16:24Speaker 1: is gonna see it, and they're gonna be intrigued and
- 16:26Speaker 1: they're gonna do it. And that was what happened between
- 16:29Speaker 1: two Valcandate and like twenty twenty, like everything changed and
- 16:35Speaker 1: it caught on like wildflower, like wildfire, because people can
- 16:38Speaker 1: see she's self confident, and it's not just because her
- 16:41Speaker 1: hair looks good, like something has shifted in her from
- 16:45Speaker 1: the inside out. And hair leads you into that journey.
- 16:49Speaker 1: It guides you into that journey, but it's just the
- 16:51Speaker 1: beginning of that journey. And the outside world, the people
- 16:54Speaker 1: closest into you, they see that change and they're like,
- 16:56Speaker 1: I want some of that, and then it just continues

- 18:47Speaker 1: Nicki Movement, the Curly Nicki Movement, Nicky Walden. You know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I've seen so many pictures. Are you trapped? You know?
- 18:55Speaker 1: And it was always a journey of like trying to
- 18:58Speaker 1: find yourself in my you know, because I tell everybody
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, in twenty sixteen, when I stopped manager Steve Harvey,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I had to find myself. I didn't even see myself
- 19:07Speaker 1: as being successful because I didn't have a voice of
- 19:09Speaker 1: what success was. And so I don't find that as
- 19:12Speaker 1: a negative when I say that, because if you don't
- 19:13Speaker 1: have to define understanding of who you are, then how
- 19:16Speaker 1: can you chase success. If you do chase success, it's
- 19:19Speaker 1: going to be temporary, because confusion is gonna set in
- 19:21Speaker 1: and when the stakes happen that you don't understand how
- 19:24Speaker 1: to fix then fail, you will become the champion. And
- 19:27Speaker 1: so those journeys, because this journey is gonna lead to
- 19:30Speaker 1: your relationships, I'm gonna be talking about which it's going
- 19:32Speaker 1: to lead into your very popular Good Mornings with Nikki
- 19:35Speaker 1: currently Nikki Podcasts right now in the top five on
- 19:39Speaker 1: spirituality on Apple Podcasts. Those journeys. Talk to me about that. Yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 1: so I could tell in about thirteen after meeting you,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I had hit the bestseller's list with my book with
- 19:52Speaker 1: Harper Collins. Very successful, you know, have husband, healthy kids, house,
- 19:59Speaker 1: been and big diamonds, traveling all over the world, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: doing great nonprofit like organization partnerships for content on crality
- 20:08Speaker 1: dot com, beautiful charmed life, Dr Oz Spots, Steve Harvey Spots,
- 20:13Speaker 1: you know, hanging out with you out of it, really
- 20:15Speaker 1: full of life. But I wasn't happy, and I'm like,
- 20:19Speaker 1: if I can't be happy with all of this stuff,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and I'm still looking for the next magazine interview, the
- 20:25Speaker 1: next TV spot, the next this, the next at the
- 20:28Speaker 1: bigger diamond, the bigger car, Like I'm never gonna be
- 20:31Speaker 1: happy and I could feel that emptiness, and so I
- 20:34Speaker 1: knew I needed to continue to seek further. And I
- 20:37Speaker 1: had already been on a spiritual journey I've been on
- 20:39Speaker 1: once since I was a kid my parents that I
- 20:41Speaker 1: started asking questions that like seven, I was raised Catholic,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and they had no answers for me. And so I
- 20:47Speaker 1: just decided to start reading again. And I read probably
- 20:50Speaker 1: six hundred books between two thousand and twelve and two
- 20:55Speaker 1: thousand eighteen from all the different world religions. Traveled to India,
- 20:59Speaker 1: try of Spain, traveled to Africa twice, you know, and
- 21:03Speaker 1: sitting in these different oshrooms and temples and churches, and
- 21:07Speaker 1: at some point when I was in Jerusalem, I could
- 21:10Speaker 1: tell I'm like, no matter where i am, this presence
- 21:14Speaker 1: is this love. There's like an inner excel, an inner peace.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Like right now, if you can you at home and
- 21:21Speaker 1: you too are shown just like lower your shoulders a
- 21:23Speaker 1: little bit and like breathe into your stomach and let
- 21:26Speaker 1: your stun attention in your stomach go and just kind
- 21:28Speaker 1: of like come into your body and come into the moment.
- 21:30Speaker 1: And it's a different way to exist. It's like being home,
- 21:35Speaker 1: being in church, no matter I'm at charge wherever I am,
- 21:38Speaker 1: it's like, there's everything is holy. So when I noticed that,
- 21:41Speaker 1: it didn't matter where I was or who I was with,
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm like, it's always here. This happiness that's natural peace
- 21:48Speaker 1: is always right here where I am. And that was
- 21:52Speaker 1: freedom for me. And I started reading more specifically about
- 21:56Speaker 1: enlightenment and what that meant to different cultures and two
- 21:59Speaker 1: different people in different religions, and it all pointed out
- 22:02Speaker 1: to the same thing. There's a light that we all have.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Most of us are unaware of it, and so then
- 22:06Speaker 1: we seek stuff out here, the shining things out here,
- 22:09Speaker 1: to try to replace that. But if you can just
- 22:12Speaker 1: find that light within your true purpose and that's and
- 22:16Speaker 1: all of that unfolds from that light. But you have
- 22:19Speaker 1: to be aware of that light here or you'll be
- 22:22Speaker 1: distracted and looking out here in the world. You know,
- 22:25Speaker 1: it's really interesting because my gift is seeing people for
- 22:30Speaker 1: who they are what they can be. And you know,
- 22:32Speaker 1: I've seen you a lot like and we have hung out.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I remember sometimes to hanging out in the neighborhood awards
- 22:37Speaker 1: or the hood whatever time about life backstage, and but
- 22:41Speaker 1: and you know, even in those periods, I saw a
- 22:44Speaker 1: talented person, but I didn't see a voice. You know
- 22:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying, It's almost like you and this is
- 22:48Speaker 1: not in it, so you almost like you know, you know,
- 22:51Speaker 1: you have this crowd of people, and then this person
- 22:54Speaker 1: trying to get into the crowd. That was who I
- 22:56Speaker 1: always kind of saw you. And I couldn't really figure
- 22:59Speaker 1: out why you couldn't be in the crowd, even though
- 23:02Speaker 1: you had the statue you have. You were beautiful, you
- 23:05Speaker 1: are articulate, you have a resume, but it almost felt
- 23:08Speaker 1: like you were trying to look at me, look at me.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I got something to say, I got to something to say.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Now I see a much more focused person. There have
- 23:16Speaker 1: been some changes in your life, but you're more focused
- 23:19Speaker 1: about you. And I tell people it ought to be
- 23:23Speaker 1: successful you talk to anybody. A lot of people used
- 23:25Speaker 1: were selfish in a bad way, but at some point
- 23:27Speaker 1: in your life to be successful, it has to be
- 23:29Speaker 1: about you. And if it's never being about you, then
- 23:33Speaker 1: guess what Confusion sets in? And also frustration sets in.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And I saw a talented, frustrated person. Why isn't this
- 23:43Speaker 1: talented frustrated person frustrated anymore? Because I found my message
- 23:50Speaker 1: and my passion like I said, when you saw me,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I was definitely in the light and not in this light.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But I was, like the world mused, I was as
- 24:00Speaker 1: this figure, this you know, natural hair, public figure. But
- 24:05Speaker 1: when I would go on TV for that, it didn't
- 24:08Speaker 1: feel completely I wasn't completely neat, and I didn't know
- 24:12Speaker 1: who me was, like what that was. And so I
- 24:16Speaker 1: dug deep. Like from the time the last time I
- 24:18Speaker 1: saw you, like fourteen until last year, I've been off
- 24:23Speaker 1: the map. You know this it's been all about like
- 24:26Speaker 1: you said, it's not you can call it selfish, you know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I call it like being selfless. I needed to get
- 24:31Speaker 1: the Nikki ego out of the way, you know, the
- 24:35Speaker 1: the part of Nicki that thought she knew where Nikki's
- 24:37Speaker 1: life was heading and what they needed to do. And
- 24:40Speaker 1: most of that came from what other people thought Nicky
- 24:43Speaker 1: should do. You know, almost all of my desires and
- 24:46Speaker 1: once and the goals were coming from society and from
- 24:50Speaker 1: the people posts to me, and even people just kind
- 24:52Speaker 1: of on the outside, like in the comments section, like
- 24:54Speaker 1: you should do this, and you should do this, you
- 24:56Speaker 1: should launch that, and like you said, you get confused.
- 24:58Speaker 1: You don't know which wy to turn and So when
- 25:00Speaker 1: I shut all that out and I went inward and
- 25:03Speaker 1: found this, I could see very clearly at time, like
- 25:06Speaker 1: I helped black women find freedom through breathing their natural hair,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and now I helped myself find like a deeper, more real,
- 25:16Speaker 1: more full freedom through finding this light that we all have.
- 25:20Speaker 1: No matter who you are, you can have it. If
- 25:22Speaker 1: you're sitting in it, you're sitting at it. And now
- 25:24Speaker 1: I want to help people move into that freedom. And
- 25:28Speaker 1: it's the only button I have, one switch, no matter
- 25:31Speaker 1: what I'm interviewed about. I was being interviewed by like
- 25:33Speaker 1: team Vote about hair and skin, and it immediately turned.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It turned to this. This is the only switch. I
- 25:38Speaker 1: can talk about it till I'm blue in the face.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm here on this earth at this time to present
- 25:45Speaker 1: this message of self love and self with a capital s.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Not just your human let's this presence that's beyond your
- 25:53Speaker 1: love it love it. Now. I would get phone calls,
- 25:56Speaker 1: you know, shut you know what, all these women showed up.
- 26:00Speaker 1: They showed up and they're sitting on pillows and they
- 26:02Speaker 1: want to be speak and relaxing. You know. But but
- 26:07Speaker 1: that was that journey, you know, you know, maybe the
- 26:10Speaker 1: last time I saw you, but we've been talking and
- 26:12Speaker 1: talking that you're talking about it and absolutely and they've
- 26:17Speaker 1: seen you. Just wanted to go up to New York
- 26:19Speaker 1: and he was working at some storylines with dr Oz
- 26:22Speaker 1: TV show What could we do with that? But I
- 26:24Speaker 1: always felt that in Tracy would go traceys about producer
- 26:27Speaker 1: for Media Ink, and so she would go and go
- 26:31Speaker 1: were what we're gonna do? I said, I don't know
- 26:32Speaker 1: if she knows who she is. I say, I said,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't. I don't get her, and I would tell
- 26:36Speaker 1: her the trade to go, you'll get her. No, I
- 26:39Speaker 1: don't get her, okay, because there has been a certain
- 26:43Speaker 1: degree of clarity, And now I get you now because
- 26:47Speaker 1: I understand there's some because sometimes up, yeah, just be honest.
- 26:52Speaker 1: A lot of times in your life, even though I
- 26:54Speaker 1: was talking to you, I felt like somebody else was
- 26:56Speaker 1: talking through you, okay, And now when I'm talking to you,
- 26:59Speaker 1: I feel like I'm talking to the person that's speaking
- 27:01Speaker 1: the decisions about what you want to be, not because
- 27:05Speaker 1: it's an opportunity, it's what you want to do, it's
- 27:08Speaker 1: what I'm here to do. And I took that advice
- 27:11Speaker 1: you gave me back in ten you're like, you are amazing.
- 27:15Speaker 1: You will be successful. You have to get clarity. I
- 27:18Speaker 1: can't help you be successful in spirituality until you make
- 27:22Speaker 1: some moves in spirituality and to step out there and
- 27:24Speaker 1: start sharing your message and stop being scared, basically. And
- 27:27Speaker 1: so I took that medicine and started just kind of
- 27:29Speaker 1: dipping my toe and you know, and easing in there.
- 27:32Speaker 1: And I've reached back out after I had jumped in
- 27:35Speaker 1: and found my I found my voice. Come on now,
- 27:40Speaker 1: good mornings, good Nikki, come on now, natural hair spirituality.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Found yourself. Been stepped on a little bit emotionally, been
- 27:51Speaker 1: been ran over, like we're supposed to get run over.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I've been run over. Okay, into this. It's like when
- 27:56Speaker 1: you get ran over, when you get beat up a
- 27:57Speaker 1: little bit, you know, like it brings you more clarity.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And so I'm radically grateful for the lessons, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 1: in these last ten years to just bring me closer
- 28:07Speaker 1: to myself. So leave nothing but this love. So tell
- 28:10Speaker 1: us about this amazing podcast. It was so fantastic on
- 28:13Speaker 1: Apple podcast. Now I'm just telling the worst spirituality kind
- 28:17Speaker 1: of scare some people. She gonna be preaching to me.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I don't know, the Bible that well, oh my god,
- 28:22Speaker 1: I don't even go to church. What is she doing?
- 28:24Speaker 1: She's Curly NICKI I got straight hand. Can I listen
- 28:27Speaker 1: to her? I do? I got priv Can I listened
- 28:30Speaker 1: to her? Tell us about what your good Mornings with
- 28:34Speaker 1: Curly Nick is all about it? And it's welcome to
- 28:36Speaker 1: all people. Yes, welcome to everyone. So in twenty in November,
- 28:42Speaker 1: something different because I wanted to see something different. So
- 28:45Speaker 1: I started waking up and actually getting out of the
- 28:46Speaker 1: bed at five o'clock in the morning. And I've done
- 28:49Speaker 1: that every day since November. I meditate, journal, do my yoga,
- 28:54Speaker 1: all before the kids got up calling my name or
- 28:56Speaker 1: I had to be Curly Nikki or I needed to
- 28:58Speaker 1: be a daughter or sister. It just beat during those
- 29:01Speaker 1: two hours. And during that time, like somewhere in the
- 29:04Speaker 1: last few months, this idea, this clarity came that you know,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I share on Instagram every day, but it's words I write.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I type many many words using that platform in a
- 29:16Speaker 1: way it's not intimates used. And I'm like, maybe with
- 29:19Speaker 1: all these d ms I'm getting from women and men
- 29:21Speaker 1: from all over the world, you know, like my demographic
- 29:24Speaker 1: is just expanding and expanding. I'm like, maybe there's another
- 29:28Speaker 1: platform that I can answer these questions, you know, because
- 29:31Speaker 1: I'm only one person. Because it was getting overwhelming, and
- 29:34Speaker 1: so I thought, I set this intention to get up
- 29:38Speaker 1: before the sun every morning, and it's changed my life.
- 29:41Speaker 1: And I'm not going to tell people they have to
- 29:42Speaker 1: get up before the sun, but I am going to
- 29:44Speaker 1: tell them they need to set an intention by getting
- 29:46Speaker 1: quiet and spending time with You can call it God,
- 29:49Speaker 1: you can call it love, you can call it the
- 29:51Speaker 1: I Am. It doesn't need a name because it existed
- 29:54Speaker 1: before language did, so whatever you wanna call it source
- 29:56Speaker 1: universe that we're gonna sit with that every for just
- 30:00Speaker 1: five to two minutes, and then you go into the day,
- 30:04Speaker 1: Like you said, leading you know, with your your success
- 30:07Speaker 1: or leading with your passions. They're gonna lead with their love.
- 30:10Speaker 1: With this light. They're gonna go out into the world
- 30:13Speaker 1: as life, as love, and it changes their lives and
- 30:17Speaker 1: the lives of the people that they bumped into along
- 30:20Speaker 1: the way. And the feedback has been tremendous. You know,
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's already grown greatly. Just it's only this is we're
- 30:27Speaker 1: moving into week two and it's amazing, Like word of
- 30:31Speaker 1: mouth you know, because it's not preaching. It's an easy
- 30:34Speaker 1: it's a it's a reminding. So you already know this.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Whoever you are listening to me, you already know that
- 30:41Speaker 1: you feel stuck and you feel unhappy. Even if you
- 30:44Speaker 1: appear to be happy, something's not quite right and you
- 30:47Speaker 1: know it's not quite right, and you're like, this can't be.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Like I'm living the same day over and over again.
- 30:51Speaker 1: It sucks. That's how everyone feels until they find this.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And once you have this, everything else starts to work. You.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Good Mornings with Nikki is the podcast, the very popular
- 31:02Speaker 1: podcast that you can find on Apple Podcasts, which you
- 31:06Speaker 1: know alatively if you if you're not an Apple were yet, Okay,
- 31:11Speaker 1: you know the Apple is the place to be. I'm
- 31:12Speaker 1: on Apple podcast and so but when I look at
- 31:16Speaker 1: different lanes, this is different lane. Your lane is different,
- 31:18Speaker 1: my lane, my money making conversation. I'm trying to motivate
- 31:21Speaker 1: people through entrepreneurship. You're trying to motivate people through spirtuality
- 31:25Speaker 1: with you, in some ways slide into people who want
- 31:28Speaker 1: to be entrepreneurs, people who want to find the right
- 31:30Speaker 1: person in your life, people who want to graduate from
- 31:32Speaker 1: high school, people want to graduate from college. People want
- 31:35Speaker 1: to meet the right person in their life. People want
- 31:36Speaker 1: to be able to get along with their kids. It
- 31:38Speaker 1: is such a huge bandwidth of opportunity for you, because
- 31:43Speaker 1: mine is really a niche, rich your is. You're covering
- 31:48Speaker 1: all these bases. How confidence do you feel you'll be
- 31:51Speaker 1: able to cover all these bases, Nikki Walton? Because I
- 31:54Speaker 1: know that there is only this one president, this one love,
- 31:59Speaker 1: and it is the essence of everything. So it is
- 32:02Speaker 1: the essence of your health, it's the essence of your wealth,
- 32:05Speaker 1: you know. And so if you can get into touch
- 32:06Speaker 1: with this and practice it, meaning keeping some attention on it.
- 32:11Speaker 1: You have your thoughts, But right next to your thoughts,
- 32:14Speaker 1: there's a place inside where you don't have to quiet
- 32:16Speaker 1: your thoughts. There's a place inside that's already quiet. There's
- 32:18Speaker 1: a place inside that's already relaxed, in the place inside
- 32:21Speaker 1: that's already meditating. So if you can get into that place,
- 32:24Speaker 1: then all of those other areas work. And it's just
- 32:27Speaker 1: that's just what it is. It's like law, and it
- 32:31Speaker 1: works beautifully. And I've seen it happen in thousands of
- 32:33Speaker 1: women's lives that I've worked with in my life. I'm living,
- 32:37Speaker 1: absolutely living my whole life change, you know, in a
- 32:39Speaker 1: matter of like three or four years, from the inside out,
- 32:41Speaker 1: after finding this and then practicing it every day, in
- 32:45Speaker 1: every moment. She's a nominated author. I first matter on
- 32:48Speaker 1: the first book at HarperCollins and the thirteen Better than
- 32:51Speaker 1: the Good Hair, and the second hair was When Good
- 32:54Speaker 1: Hair Goes Bad and now Good Mornings with Curly Nikki
- 32:59Speaker 1: Cordily dot com. It's a website where it's worldwide or
- 33:03Speaker 1: with thirty countries, millions of people are traffic is amazing.
- 33:06Speaker 1: She has a total ownership of Curly Nicki dot com.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Now one of the changes that she's promoting ownership and
- 33:12Speaker 1: controlling your voice. She's not jumping on the outside trying
- 33:15Speaker 1: to get in. She is in, and when she's inside,
- 33:17Speaker 1: she's changing lives and welcome to the world of being
- 33:20Speaker 1: who you are because we need a responsible individual with
- 33:23Speaker 1: responsible for us being able to show us the light.
