Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The two pilots were rescued out of the water by
- 0:03Speaker 1: an unmanned seed drone operated by Task Force fifty nine
- 0:06Speaker 1: in Bahrain.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The drones Texas made.
- 0:08Speaker 1: It's twenty four feet long and can travel one thousand
- 0:12Speaker 1: miles and hit speeds of thirty five knots and it's
- 0:15Speaker 1: the first sea drone rescue in combat.
- 0:17Speaker 3: As you're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with
- 0:21Speaker 3: Ben ferguson.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Good Wednesday morning, nice to have you with us on
- 0:23Speaker 4: the forty seven Morning Update, and we've got one big
- 0:26Speaker 4: story for you, and it involves an incredible rescue of
- 0:30Speaker 4: two service members that were shot down in an Apache
- 0:33Speaker 4: helicopter by Iran. What's amazing about the story is how
- 0:37Speaker 4: they were saved and it was by a drone. Senator
- 0:41Speaker 4: Cruz join me to talk about this amazing rescue, and
- 0:45Speaker 4: we have all of it for you. But before we
- 0:47Speaker 4: get to that, I want to take a moment and
- 0:49Speaker 4: talk to you about how you can get involved with
- 0:51Speaker 4: Compassion International and have a real impact. I want to
- 0:55Speaker 4: be honest with you for a second about how an
- 0:57Speaker 4: act of compassion really feels. Couple of years ago, I
- 1:01Speaker 4: made the choice to partner with an amazing organization called
- 1:05Speaker 4: Compassion International. Why because I wanted to sponsor a child
- 1:09Speaker 4: in need. It was a nice idea, sure, but I
- 1:13Speaker 4: had no idea just how much that simple act would
- 1:16Speaker 4: change my life as well. I sponsored Nadia and got
- 1:20Speaker 4: to watch your life change right in front of my eyes,
- 1:23Speaker 4: going from starving literally alone on the streets, to getting
- 1:27Speaker 4: the healthcare and education she needs to reach her God
- 1:31Speaker 4: given full potential. I got to be a part of
- 1:34Speaker 4: that change. And the light of that compassion not only
- 1:38Speaker 4: illuminates in her, it illuminates now in me. That is
- 1:42Speaker 4: the power of compassion. The light of Christ shines on
- 1:46Speaker 4: all of us. Feel it for yourself and change literally
- 1:50Speaker 4: a child's life, change the world, and you also change yourself.
- 1:55Speaker 4: You can sponsor child today. Visit Compassion dot com. That
- 2:00Speaker 4: Compassion dot com. It's the forty seven Morning Update and
- 2:04Speaker 4: it starts right now.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Story number one.
- 2:06Speaker 4: All right, so Center, let's get into this first story.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And you said it best. Welcome to just Technology. In
- 2:15Speaker 4: twenty twenty six, for the first time in history, you
- 2:19Speaker 4: had a drone boat that saved the lives of two
- 2:23Speaker 4: Americans that were shot down by Iran.
- 2:26Speaker 2: There's no pilot like no one on board.
- 2:28Speaker 4: This is a boat just like a drone in the
- 2:31Speaker 4: sky that is controlled by you know, a joystick, and
- 2:35Speaker 4: it was able to go extremely fast, get these guys
- 2:40Speaker 4: and get out before the enemy could touch them.
- 2:43Speaker 2: This is unbelievable.
- 2:44Speaker 4: And the best part is this technology is coming out
- 2:47Speaker 4: of the United States American in fact, it's coming out
- 2:50Speaker 4: of Texas well.
- 2:52Speaker 5: It's not even directly controlled by a joystick. It's actually
- 2:55Speaker 5: AI that controls this. And this is a company based
- 2:58Speaker 5: in Austin. I've been to their factory. I've seen their factory.
- 3:00Speaker 5: It's amazing that they're building these ships. And the ships
- 3:05Speaker 5: are and they have all sorts of different sizes. They
- 3:07Speaker 5: have bigger ones, they have smaller ones. They're going to
- 3:09Speaker 5: have drone ships that are over one hundred and fifty
- 3:13Speaker 5: feet long that are big ships. But they also have
- 3:17Speaker 5: smaller military vessels. And then they have really small drones.
- 3:21Speaker 5: And these drones can do all sorts of things. They're
- 3:23Speaker 5: all boats, but they can do surveillance, they can do espionage,
- 3:27Speaker 5: they can do military combat, they could be armed with weaponry.
- 3:32Speaker 5: They can transport supplies if you're trying to say resupply
- 3:37Speaker 5: soldiers that are in a form forward combat position, they
- 3:40Speaker 5: can resupply them. So this is all coming out of Austin, Texas.
- 3:44Speaker 5: It's amazing technology and what precipitated it is that that
- 3:50Speaker 5: earl earlier today, an armed Iranian shah Head drones struck
- 3:56Speaker 5: a US Apache helicopter and it went down in the
- 3:59Speaker 5: sea off the coast of Oman on Monday. US Central
- 4:04Speaker 5: Command reported that the helicopter was on patrol when it
- 4:06Speaker 5: was struck by the drone, but the two pilots who
- 4:10Speaker 5: were aboard the Apache helicopter were safely rescued with it
- 4:13Speaker 5: about two hours of the strike. And it's worth here
- 4:19Speaker 5: we're going to play the Fox News report that covered it,
- 4:22Speaker 5: and for those of you who are watching this on YouTube,
- 4:25Speaker 5: you can watch the video of this drone ship that
- 4:29Speaker 5: was responsible for rescuing our soldiers in combat. Give a
- 4:33Speaker 5: list and give a watch.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Deron's under attack. Trump ordered Sentcom to launch self defense
- 4:38Speaker 1: strikes after an enemy drone took down an Apache helicopter
- 4:42Speaker 1: patrolling the strait. The two pilots were rescued out of
- 4:45Speaker 1: the water by an unmanned sea drone operated by Task
- 4:49Speaker 1: Force fifty nine in Bahrain. The drones Texas made it's
- 4:52Speaker 1: twenty four feet long and can travel one thousand miles
- 4:56Speaker 1: and hit speeds of thirty five knots, and it's the
- 4:59Speaker 1: first see drone rescue in combat history.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Trump was on the phone with the press when he
- 5:05Speaker 2: gave the order.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Podas said, this is a retaliation for the helicopter hit,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and it's important that our response is strong and powerful.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Sincom called our response proportional. But sources say we're taking
- 5:17Speaker 1: out Iranian air defenses, radar systems all along the Straight
- 5:20Speaker 1: and we're not finished technically. I know it doesn't seem
- 5:24Speaker 1: like it, but we're still in a ceasefire. And the
- 5:27Speaker 1: President continues to say we're close to a.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Deal where in the final throes of what will be
- 5:34Speaker 5: a very very good deal that will not allow in
- 5:37Speaker 5: any way, shape or form, nuclear weapons, etc.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And then Straight will open up right away.
- 5:43Speaker 5: It'll open up immediately upon signing, which could be in
- 5:46Speaker 5: two or three days.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Trump's made the terms clear. The uranium must be turned
- 5:49Speaker 1: over and destroyed. Enrichment must stop for two decades at least,
- 5:54Speaker 1: all nuclear sites must be completely dismantled, and the United
- 5:57Speaker 1: States is able to conduct snap inspects whenever the heck
- 6:01Speaker 1: we want.
- 6:02Speaker 4: You listen that report and it goes back to the
- 6:04Speaker 4: bigger issue in the war and what we're trying to
- 6:06Speaker 4: accomplish their senator. But you go back to just the
- 6:09Speaker 4: beginning of it. Thirty five knots. That's about forty miles
- 6:13Speaker 4: an hour in rough seas. That's incredibly fast, especially if
- 6:16Speaker 4: you're twenty five foot boat.
- 6:18Speaker 2: As they described here.
- 6:19Speaker 4: This technology allows these boats to go faster than what
- 6:23Speaker 4: most like if you're a human riding in a boat
- 6:25Speaker 4: and heavy seas and rough seas, going at that speed
- 6:28Speaker 4: is going to be very risky to you. This takes
- 6:31Speaker 4: that away as well, which again talks about how the
- 6:34Speaker 4: speed they were able to actually get to these two
- 6:38Speaker 4: pilots that have been shot down.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and look, it's a manifestation of the new age
- 6:43Speaker 5: of warfare where where these drone ships are not massively expensive.
- 6:50Speaker 5: You look at aircraft carriers and expensive ships that can
- 6:55Speaker 5: cost hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars that
- 6:58Speaker 5: are powered with nuclear reactor. That's been how we've approached
- 7:02Speaker 5: naval power for seventy years, and now we have a
- 7:08Speaker 5: scenario where these drones are not terribly expensive to be built.
- 7:12Speaker 5: They can be built at scale, and you can deploy
- 7:15Speaker 5: one of them, or ten of them, or a thousand
- 7:17Speaker 5: of them or ten thousand of them, and the ability
- 7:21Speaker 5: and with AI you can control Look, ten thousand in
- 7:25Speaker 5: a normal world, you'd have to have ten thousand captains
- 7:28Speaker 5: piloting them. You could have AI and you can assign.
- 7:32Speaker 5: You could assign, for example, ten thousand drone ships patrol
- 7:36Speaker 5: this area. AI can direct them, but they're searching and
- 7:40Speaker 5: they'll engage in espionage and gain engage in reporting on
- 7:45Speaker 5: what they find. You can train them to protect, protect
- 7:49Speaker 5: a particular ship, protect something that's going on, protect a
- 7:53Speaker 5: port or harbor. They can do that. You can assign
- 7:56Speaker 5: them go intercept this vessel. And if they're armed with
- 7:59Speaker 5: ordnance that they can fire torpedoes, they can have explosives.
- 8:04Speaker 5: And because the ships themselves are not super expensive, it
- 8:08Speaker 5: also means that if you lose one ship or ten
- 8:13Speaker 5: or one hundred, it's not the end of the world.
- 8:14Speaker 5: It's not that is risks. Yeah, and it's look, we're
- 8:19Speaker 5: saying the same thing with aerial drones, where we're headed
- 8:22Speaker 5: very quickly to a world and some of this we're
- 8:24Speaker 5: actually getting some foreshadowing of this with the war in
- 8:27Speaker 5: Ukraine where the battle between Ukraine and Russia, much of
- 8:30Speaker 5: it is involving drones and the ability to have thousands
- 8:33Speaker 5: or tens of thousands of drones and instead of one big,
- 8:37Speaker 5: really expensive thing, lots and lots of smaller, less expensive
- 8:42Speaker 5: things which can overwhelm the previous technology. And I got
- 8:47Speaker 5: to say that having been to the factory. Look, these
- 8:51Speaker 5: guys are a startup at Austin, Texas. I know, I
- 8:54Speaker 5: know the CEO, I know the lead funders, and they're
- 8:57Speaker 5: you know, young techies who are entrepreneurial, who have a
- 9:02Speaker 5: vision and their desire to scale this. It is very cool.
- 9:08Speaker 5: This is the first drone rescue at sea in combat
- 9:13Speaker 5: in the history of the world. And you know what,
- 9:14Speaker 5: this is not going to be the last. We're going
- 9:16Speaker 5: to see a lot more. By the way, there are
- 9:18Speaker 5: civilian applications of this that have nothing to do with combat. Look,
- 9:22Speaker 5: look the Coast Guard.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I would say.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I literally was talking the Coastguard as we were on
- 9:27Speaker 4: family vacation and one of the guys I saw and
- 9:30Speaker 4: you know, just saying things. But one of the things
- 9:32Speaker 4: that was cool they were talking about is technology. They
- 9:35Speaker 4: said a lot of times the helicopters when there's the
- 9:39Speaker 4: worst weather and boats get in trouble, they can be
- 9:41Speaker 4: commercial vessels, they can be recreational, they can be commercial
- 9:45Speaker 4: fishing boats when things get really bad with weather. Unfortunately,
- 9:49Speaker 4: sometimes the weather's too bad to go out right at
- 9:52Speaker 4: that moment in a.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Helicopter because it's so bad.
- 9:55Speaker 4: But if you have drones that you can risk no
- 9:58Speaker 4: life going out there, it changes the entire way that
- 10:02Speaker 4: it works. And they're similar that are afraid, like, hey,
- 10:04Speaker 4: well that's gonna take jobs and in a way human beings.
- 10:07Speaker 4: But if you can't be there in that moment and
- 10:10Speaker 4: you can send out a drone that could quite possibly
- 10:13Speaker 4: save your life, that a normal if it's if it's
- 10:16Speaker 4: if it's you know, man controlled, you just can't take
- 10:19Speaker 4: that risk and you come back it's too rough. You
- 10:22Speaker 4: can throw drones out there and save countless lives in
- 10:25Speaker 4: that scenario. This is technology that is life changing.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Yeah, and I will say, Ben, have you ever met
- 10:32Speaker 5: Coast Guard swimmers?
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yes, they're unbelievable.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I mean they're kind of they're the equivalent
- 10:38Speaker 5: of Navy seals or Delta Force green berets that they're
- 10:44Speaker 5: they're the most badass coastness. Yeah, and I met met
- 10:49Speaker 5: a number of them, particularly in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
- 10:52Speaker 5: So Hurricane Harvey was a twenty seventeen was at the
- 10:57Speaker 5: time the second most costly natural disaster and history, did
- 11:01Speaker 5: massive damage all the way down from Corpus Christie all
- 11:06Speaker 5: the way up hundreds of miles up the Texas coast
- 11:08Speaker 5: to to to the border right with Louisiana, and it
- 11:11Speaker 5: just was devastating damage. And the coasties that these swimmers
- 11:16Speaker 5: would go out and these guys you meet them, and
- 11:19Speaker 5: they're like twenty year old guys, and it's sort of
- 11:23Speaker 5: imagine like g I Joe combined with a California surfer dude.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yep. So they're guys.
- 11:31Speaker 5: They have these, you know, enormous chests because they're like
- 11:34Speaker 5: massive swimmers and and so imagine Michael Phelps with these
- 11:38Speaker 5: like long ass arms and like massive swimmers, but with
- 11:42Speaker 5: sort of bleach blonde hair and they've got like shades
- 11:45Speaker 5: hanging from their head and they're like, yeah, bro, look
- 11:49Speaker 5: like it's it's it's they're not like the guys that
- 11:53Speaker 5: that you also met that save people's lives and and
- 11:55Speaker 5: the flooding that happened in Texas. Not that yes, yes,
- 11:59Speaker 5: look last fourth of July. But these swimmers, they will
- 12:03Speaker 5: get on helicopters in the middle of a hurricane where
- 12:06Speaker 5: you've got waves in the ocean that are ten twenty
- 12:10Speaker 5: feet high that are terrify, and these guys will jump
- 12:13Speaker 5: out of a helicopter into the crashing waves and go
- 12:16Speaker 5: rescue someone. And it is there's a fearlessness to not
- 12:22Speaker 5: only jumping in crashing twenty foot waves, which most of us,
- 12:27Speaker 5: if we're in those waves, are going to die, yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 5: but they'll jump in when they are people in harm's
- 12:33Speaker 5: way and they'll go grab them. To be clear, if
- 12:35Speaker 5: you or I were in twenty foot waves and drowning
- 12:37Speaker 5: someone came, we'd grab on them and pull on and
- 12:39Speaker 5: you're terrified, Like they know they're gonna go rescue someone
- 12:42Speaker 5: who's freaking out, who's gonna not intentionally, but it's going
- 12:45Speaker 5: to effectively try to pull them under, and they're just
- 12:48Speaker 5: they're really cool. But you're right. There are times where
- 12:52Speaker 5: the weather is so bad you can't send the chopper in,
- 12:55Speaker 5: and the ability to send a drone in to have
- 12:58Speaker 5: something to rest you say, you know someone that's out,
- 13:03Speaker 5: you know just just on a boat and gets in trouble.
- 13:06Speaker 5: That is game changing, and that's coming out of Tech
- 13:09Speaker 5: Texas and all of the new tech that is based
- 13:13Speaker 5: in Texas.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is an incredible story.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Every once in a while you get a feel good
- 13:16Speaker 4: story like this, and we should celebrate it. It also
- 13:18Speaker 4: is a reminder, I think of why it's so important
- 13:21Speaker 4: to make sure that we're adequately funding technology. You've talked
- 13:25Speaker 4: about this, and I've talked about this a lot.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Center.
- 13:27Speaker 4: This is a perfect example of us winning the war
- 13:30Speaker 4: on AI to make sure that our adversary, China is
- 13:34Speaker 4: not leading the way on AI. If this is AI controlled,
- 13:37Speaker 4: this goes and this is one of those examples. I
- 13:39Speaker 4: do think we should highlight it for a second. This
- 13:42Speaker 4: is why America has to win the AI race. You
- 13:45Speaker 4: have less us and you've been warning on this issue,
- 13:49Speaker 4: and I think we should just take them out. Remind
- 13:51Speaker 4: people if we aren't in charge of this, our adversary
- 13:55Speaker 4: would be and that's a scary world as well.
- 13:58Speaker 5: And by the way, if China masters this technology before
- 14:01Speaker 5: we do, that is a generation skipping advance in technology.
- 14:07Speaker 5: And if they have the ability to send a thousand
- 14:11Speaker 5: or ten thousand or one hundred thousand AI controlled drones
- 14:14Speaker 5: at one of our aircraft carriers. There's a real risk that,
- 14:18Speaker 5: you know, the weapons we have to take say surface,
- 14:23Speaker 5: surface to surface missiles or bombs we have, you know
- 14:27Speaker 5: those Our aircraft carriers are incredibly expensive and powerful tools,
- 14:32Speaker 5: but they were made to take out a limited number
- 14:35Speaker 5: of ordinance and not just massive drone assaults. We're shifting
- 14:40Speaker 5: to a new technology where look, if we're in a
- 14:44Speaker 5: conflict with a smaller rival, that's less dangerous. Although you
- 14:50Speaker 5: know what in times even terrorists and smaller rivals we're
- 14:53Speaker 5: going to see. We're going to see more and more
- 14:56Speaker 5: military attack using drones. We're going to see things, We're
- 14:59Speaker 5: going to see assassinations, We're going to see people killed
- 15:03Speaker 5: using drones. That is, unfortunately where the future is heading.
- 15:07Speaker 5: One of the things the US military is investing in
- 15:09Speaker 5: heavily with American technology is counter drone technology. How do
- 15:13Speaker 5: you take out how do you take out drones that
- 15:16Speaker 5: are attacking you? And some of what is working is
- 15:20Speaker 5: lower cost ordinance that you can't fire a patriot missile
- 15:25Speaker 5: at every drone coming in. It just the cost differential.
- 15:29Speaker 5: They can swarm you, so you know is that another
- 15:33Speaker 5: Texas company where they're building basically the equivalent of a
- 15:37Speaker 5: really big, badass machine gun that is power that is
- 15:42Speaker 5: firing like fifty cow rounds, but is firing them with
- 15:47Speaker 5: AI where they could target hundreds or thousands of drones.
- 15:51Speaker 5: But the cost of a round is not very expensive.
- 15:53Speaker 5: So instead of spending an entire patriot missile or something
- 15:59Speaker 5: that you have limited supply of, we have essentially unlimited
- 16:03Speaker 5: supply of rounds and so but using those robot powered
- 16:08Speaker 5: with AI to takeout attacks in scale. More and more
- 16:13Speaker 5: of that is coming in. There are different ways to
- 16:15Speaker 5: take out drones. You've got ordnance, got laser and microwave,
- 16:20Speaker 5: and we're exploring all sorts of different technologies to take
- 16:23Speaker 5: out a hostile drone. But if we lose this race,
- 16:28Speaker 5: we would be at a serious military disadvantage to China.
- 16:31Speaker 5: We can't let that happen, and I don't think
- 16:33Speaker 3: We're going to Thank you for listening to the forty
