[SPEAKER_10]: I just wanted to be a little episode where if you haven't been in a while, if you're just curious what my top tips are, because there's always stuff that I know that I forget to say out loud, because it's just like in the lexicon in my brain, you're gonna hit play, and it's just gonna be like everything that you would tell someone at a cocktail party about what they need to do at Disneyland without giving them an hours work.

[SPEAKER_10]: I actually came up with this idea randomly and I think it's kind of the best because while working on this episode I got a lot of calls back from people that I had oh my gosh, how do I explain this they had called in There were a few episodes in row where it was like I'm going to Disneyland solo I'm going on this trip.

[SPEAKER_10]: What advice do you have and I gave them a bunch of advice and I got these calls back from multiple people being like Here's why you're advice helped Here's what worked out like I'm so I'm so glad you mentioned this one random thing and it's all stuff that kind of is in my brain and then leaves like I forget about it

[SPEAKER_10]: So if you need like a little refresher before you say go to Disneyland this summer, or maybe this fall, I can remind you to like, do but order your mobile order stuff in advance when you enter the beginning of the day.

[SPEAKER_09]: There is a gluten-free baked chicken plate at the Plaza Inn in Disneyland and I think it's like three or four baked drumsticks and then potatoes and veggies or something like that.

[SPEAKER_10]: I was like, okay, oh, I definitely want to play this one and talk about kind of the dishes that I get at Disneyland.

[SPEAKER_10]: We wound up, there's maybe like seven of us.

[SPEAKER_10]: We wound up at Plaza in for dinner.

[SPEAKER_10]: I've been there before.

[SPEAKER_10]: I've gotten a salmon.

[SPEAKER_10]: It's been totally fine.

[SPEAKER_10]: But on this visit, I realized the salmon is now covered in breadcrumbs, which means that all of their entrees meet love breadcrumbs fried chicken, I mean coding.

[SPEAKER_10]: Sal, I can't have a salad and there's like no protein out in any way.

[SPEAKER_10]: So I would have spent like $13 on iceberg lettuce and then chicken tenders coded and then salmon covered in breadcrumbs.

[SPEAKER_10]: And we're like seven other people were already getting food.

[SPEAKER_10]: So I was like, oh, no, so I asked them if they could do the salmon with this is going somewhere I promise I asked them they could do the salmon without the bread crumbs and they were like, um, you're gonna have to talk to The people about an allergy meal and I was like, oh, the allergy meal.

[SPEAKER_10]: Only it didn't quite go the way I anticipated it would.

[SPEAKER_10]: Now, if you hear something in the background, it's just morning shaking, it's tail.

[SPEAKER_10]: I was processing my feelings in real time about the implications of what I experienced while ordering that allergy meal.

[SPEAKER_10]: But to keep this as succinct is possible.

[SPEAKER_10]: I ordered an alternative meal, I could not eat anything at this restaurant.

[SPEAKER_10]: And the way I was treated, in my opinion, from my perspective, I'm not going to say exactly how the conversation went down because my memory is not the most reliable narrator.

[SPEAKER_10]: However, I distinctly remember how I feel and how I felt after and it is lingering a day later.

[SPEAKER_10]: I feel as though I was somewhat inferred or maybe one might say accused of not needing the

[SPEAKER_10]: Uh, the conversation was, there were multiple points at which I, I was like, it just, it just felt like they thought I was lying.

[SPEAKER_10]: It felt like they thought I was lying that I needed accommodations for a meal.

[SPEAKER_10]: And the implications of this go so far beyond me eating a boiled chicken leg and a scoop of white rice.

[SPEAKER_10]: Like that's actually my ideal meal because that's what I eat every day at home.

[SPEAKER_10]: I now cook all my own food because of this topic issues that I have and that's what I'm used to.

[SPEAKER_10]: Like that is a meal I could have and I was very grateful that Disney was able to accommodate me.

[SPEAKER_10]: I was able to eat a meal that I could actually digest.

[SPEAKER_10]: And I have been my doctor wanted me to expand my

[SPEAKER_10]: dieted a bit so I've been trying new things and it has not been going great so I have been pretty ill from it.

[SPEAKER_10]: So I was like, oh my god, a safe meal, something I can eat.

[SPEAKER_10]: This is fantastic.

[SPEAKER_10]: However, the implications of this are that I did not know that when some people request allergy meals, they are met with maybe an attitude that they are making it up, that they don't need it and that they somewhat don't deserve it.

[SPEAKER_10]: I know this not just because of the way I felt during the conversation from the tone of a few questions being asked, but also because I ordered my meal behind a family who also ordered an allergy meal, and they did not have the same style of conversation that I did.

[SPEAKER_10]: It upsets me, not because of me, but because of what would happen if someone else was in this situation and felt so hurt by it that they just gave up and ate something that they couldn't eat that made them sick because they didn't want to have a discussion like this again.

[SPEAKER_10]: What if someone just got diagnosed with something and they're uncomfortable talking about it?

[SPEAKER_10]: And that's antithetical to how this is supposed to go.

[SPEAKER_10]: And it extends deeper when you really talk about disability access service and desks.

[SPEAKER_10]: Because what we've seen is that a lot of people who need this service because some people

[SPEAKER_10]: That is the rumor of why everything is restricted so much.

[SPEAKER_10]: I'm just going to go with that because we all have common sense.

[SPEAKER_10]: Once they introduced paid fast pass, once they introduced lightning lane, obviously DAS requests shifted drastically because people are trying to take advantage of a system that now requires them to pay when they didn't have to pay.

[SPEAKER_10]: I have seen the struggles that people face to simply get the accommodations they need.

[SPEAKER_10]: There is a Facebook group that I am in.

[SPEAKER_10]: I see how hard it is for people who have these accommodations who truly need them.

[SPEAKER_10]: Having to loudly advocate and almost convince and beg a stranger to be like, I need this.

[SPEAKER_10]: The fact that often, if you are, I mean, the process is now for disability access service, for waiting for an attraction.

[SPEAKER_10]: If you are in continent, they expect you to wait in line and then just leave to go to the bathroom, that's not how that works.

[SPEAKER_10]: Like, we need to be expanding accommodations for people who need them.

[SPEAKER_10]: once and from what I've heard from people who have DM to me, who have allergies, who have food and tolerances, said that, yeah, at Disneyland Resort, not at Disney World.

[SPEAKER_10]: I've been traveling with people who needed allergy meals, who needed a separate meal.

[SPEAKER_10]: Those should be all over the place because if you need to use an adult like a larger changing table, I believe adult changing table is the preferred name for that.

[SPEAKER_10]: The fact that it Disney's Hollywood Studios, there's no toddler potty.

[SPEAKER_10]: Everything they did was for children and there's no toddler potty like we're missing very very basic things that make people who visit these parks Not only feel seen and feel representative but make them comfortable and make it easier on them and that's what Disney is so Good at and I was shocked to experience this firsthand that it's

[SPEAKER_10]: But let's get back to Mount Olympus because that's what I really can't wait to talk about.

[SPEAKER_10]: Before there was Mount Olympus, there was family land.

[SPEAKER_10]: The water park resort of my childhood.

[SPEAKER_10]: A lot of you grew up with Disney.

[SPEAKER_10]: I grew up with family land.

[SPEAKER_10]: It was just a Wisconsin-Dell's water park from the like retained that 90s charm and they eventually built a new hotel called Treasure Island which was lovely and then they built this indoor water park this massive water park so that if you couldn't go to the outdoor sites you could go to the indoor sites and it was just amazing.

[SPEAKER_10]: I spent every summer we were at camp we would go there no my family growing up it was very important to me and to my love of places like this.

[SPEAKER_10]: It was just really great and had everything and it was like before other places had this stuff and it was just wonderful.

[SPEAKER_10]: And I believe 2004, a Greek family purchased all of that and they rebranded it as Mount Olympus.

[SPEAKER_10]: And if you've ever played or are familiar with roller coaster tycoon, that's essentially what happened here in real life.

[SPEAKER_10]: They built all these gigantic coasters year after year, their names like Zeus and Cyclops and Pegasus, but the real story is here that you like won't find on the Wikipedia or written online, is that the owners essentially gobbled up all the small businesses across Wisconsin Dells, while also building this massive resort.

[SPEAKER_10]: My husband has gone on the scarier ones.

[SPEAKER_10]: Frankly, I don't like the looks of them and it's not my vibe.

[SPEAKER_10]: And then when all the sudden someone builds a coaster that goes underground, and like, I don't know what's down there.

[SPEAKER_10]: But Wisconsin knows used to be this absolute vacation paradise of seemed motels that you drive past.
