- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm ready, gregor start talker hiding for Sean McDonald getting
- 1:47Speaker 1: my act together here. Welcome. Yesterday it was raining in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Houston texts. Today is beautiful and sunny, and I'm
- 1:56Speaker 1: happy to be here for money making conversations every Monday.
- 2:00Speaker 1: To let you know why I'm here. I'm here to
- 2:02Speaker 1: tell you about how to be successful, give you advice
- 2:05Speaker 1: on some free advice on the next steps in life.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They may change your life. From a guy who made
- 2:11Speaker 1: his share of mistakes and had a lot of steps
- 2:14Speaker 1: of success. With that being said, I interview people on
- 2:18Speaker 1: my show who were CEO's industry decision makers, small businesses,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and celebrities as they give you the secret secrets to
- 2:27Speaker 1: success before I get started. Uh, I am in Houston.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Today's early voting time, and I have a gentleman on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the phone. Want to bring him up right up live,
- 2:36Speaker 1: right now because I am in Houston. I gotta be
- 2:38Speaker 1: respectful for what's going on here. We always tell people
- 2:41Speaker 1: to go out and vote, and then I'll be remissed
- 2:44Speaker 1: if I don't give an opportunity for somebody to express
- 2:47Speaker 1: the importance of early voting today. Please work on the line.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Mr Rodney Griffin. Thank you that Mrs McDonald's marketing yourself
- 2:59Speaker 1: and well has the institution. So so we's got out
- 3:01Speaker 1: of camp. You should go bust out with compliments. So
- 3:08Speaker 1: that's how you're gonna get me. You know, I get
- 3:12Speaker 1: this quick profoil. If you're gonna give appreciate you give
- 3:15Speaker 1: it a public service or now and like you did
- 3:17Speaker 1: on this and courts about voting, I'm I'm riding the
- 3:21Speaker 1: Griffin and a lot of people already know me with
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Texas Dettocratic Party and the days this first day
- 3:27Speaker 1: of early voting, so I vote get it over now.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Here's the key in early voting. You don't have to
- 3:34Speaker 1: go through any particular precincts just as long as it's
- 3:36Speaker 1: in the county. For example, in Harris County, any precinct
- 3:40Speaker 1: in Harris County you can go out and vote and
- 3:42Speaker 1: on there you're gonna have a constitutions amendments about seven
- 3:45Speaker 1: of them. But also as important you have candidates. But
- 3:50Speaker 1: he's local elections for the Harris for the Houston UH
- 3:55Speaker 1: Border School Border Trustees, you community to college and you
- 4:00Speaker 1: how do massourn see that in forth Being County in
- 4:03Speaker 1: particulars these district council races that are going on that
- 4:07Speaker 1: and then just remember the adage all politics is local.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Might make a bad graandmar, but it makes a good
- 4:13Speaker 1: sense and you go out because those are the postals
- 4:15Speaker 1: gon't determined more than Washston will. It's important, but they
- 4:19Speaker 1: will determine how that money is spent. They come for
- 4:22Speaker 1: Washston and what you getting what you don't care. And
- 4:25Speaker 1: the last thing I want to say again thank you
- 4:28Speaker 1: for your time, is the adage is vot think who
- 4:33Speaker 1: ripping out my man? Stay strong again that the day
- 4:37Speaker 1: is the early voting. I just was gonna be remissed
- 4:40Speaker 1: if I didn't give them my opportunity to express the
- 4:43Speaker 1: importance of voting because they're voting and how people vote
- 4:47Speaker 1: can affect small businesses, and I have to keep in
- 4:49Speaker 1: lyning with That's what money making conversation is all about.
- 4:52Speaker 1: It's about laying the guidelines right now. That's why the
- 4:56Speaker 1: SBA is out there right now giving out these disaster
- 4:59Speaker 1: relief loans get these small businesses up and running the
- 5:02Speaker 1: game because of the fact that small businesses pay taxes,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and pay taxes is how we get our system to
- 5:09Speaker 1: give you running correctly. That's why a couple of months ago,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and I said a couple of months ago, where the
- 5:14Speaker 1: mayor of Houston was trying to uh figure out a
- 5:17Speaker 1: way to overcome the the all these flood district by
- 5:21Speaker 1: creating increasing property taxes on homes that were because he
- 5:25Speaker 1: realized that we're gonna be an issue that was gonna
- 5:27Speaker 1: be a problem because of the fact that the model
- 5:30Speaker 1: damages that were done by Hurricane Harvey. We are recovering
- 5:33Speaker 1: from Hurricane Harvey. I'm recovering from Hurricane Harvey, and I
- 5:37Speaker 1: hope that you are recovering from her Hurricane Harvey. Personally.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Today my show is featuring power couples, husband and wife
- 5:44Speaker 1: teams who are working together and being very successful power couples.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Power couples, that's a amazing thing. Like my wife, she's
- 5:54Speaker 1: an optometry you know, that's her field. Doctor of eyeballs,
- 5:59Speaker 1: doctor of eyeballs, that's what she do. And so I
- 6:02Speaker 1: was in the entertainment in writing, so we were totally different.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So our conversations always lean differently, which means she come
- 6:10Speaker 1: in talking about eyes, I come in talking about scripts. Now,
- 6:13Speaker 1: these power couples that we're bringing on today are say, say,
- 6:17Speaker 1: joined to the hip for the same cause of success,
- 6:21Speaker 1: which can be interesting. I thought it would be interesting
- 6:23Speaker 1: to bring them on the show to talk about it
- 6:25Speaker 1: and discuss how they make it all happen, how they
- 6:29Speaker 1: balance that all out, because I think it's important that
- 6:31Speaker 1: we get that out there, to say that you can
- 6:33Speaker 1: work together, live together, and sustained happenings both in your
- 6:37Speaker 1: marriage and your business even though you're participating in the
- 6:40Speaker 1: same format of success. So that's important that we get
- 6:43Speaker 1: that out today, and that's why we have power couples
- 6:46Speaker 1: on the show to day. Also today another little local news,
- 6:49Speaker 1: they trapped me in the hallway and I have no
- 6:52Speaker 1: problem talking about prayer of view and them Homecoming. I
- 6:56Speaker 1: gotta let people know I'm in Houston, Texas. Prayer of
- 6:58Speaker 1: you and if you can't get no more local than
- 7:01Speaker 1: Prayer of You and Them. Prayer of You and Them
- 7:03Speaker 1: Homecoming is this weekend. Now. Back in college, I went
- 7:07Speaker 1: to College University Houston. I used to ride down the
- 7:11Speaker 1: Prayer Ofew and Them. That was my school going party
- 7:15Speaker 1: in the Baby Dome. I can remember one of my
- 7:17Speaker 1: favorite songs today. I was dancing with this young lady
- 7:21Speaker 1: to the O J You're my darling, darling, baby bed.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I remember that today. So Prayerview has always had an
- 7:31Speaker 1: amazing moment in my life. So with that being said,
- 7:35Speaker 1: I am giving away a pair of tickets to the
- 7:38Speaker 1: Preview and Them game on my show today. It's the
- 7:40Speaker 1: first official giveaway other than my Perfect Bakes scales. If
- 7:45Speaker 1: you can tell me the colors the school colors of
- 7:48Speaker 1: the Prayerview and Them school, they're the same colors as
- 7:52Speaker 1: my fraternity on Making Scide Fire. That's why I chose
- 7:55Speaker 1: that I gotta spread the love of mak a sci fi.
- 7:59Speaker 1: If they're gonna have me do this on my show,
- 8:01Speaker 1: which I'm doing with no arms twisted behind my back.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I want you to call me at e three to
- 8:09Speaker 1: two three zero five five nine two. That's eight three
- 8:13Speaker 1: two two three zero five five night two and you
- 8:17Speaker 1: will with a pair of tickets BAM to the preview
- 8:22Speaker 1: and AM home Coming this Saturday. This Saturday, call me up.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Got you hooked up? Rus Sean McDonald eight three two
- 8:30Speaker 1: five five nine too. You can also call me if
- 8:32Speaker 1: you have any questions small business questions that you want
- 8:35Speaker 1: to get answers, life changing questions. Somebody just fired you.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You don't know what to do. You're trying to change
- 8:41Speaker 1: your jobs. You don't know what you do, and you
- 8:43Speaker 1: realize that you credit messed up. You don't know what
- 8:45Speaker 1: to do. You didn't realize that. Hey, I just need
- 8:47Speaker 1: to talk to Sean because I don't know what to
- 8:49Speaker 1: do period. I'm confused in life. I don't know where
- 8:52Speaker 1: to go in life. I don't know what to do
- 8:54Speaker 1: in life. I don't know who to talk to in life. Well,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you can talk to me, did you? You can to
- 9:00Speaker 1: meet Rashan McDonald on money Making Conversations eight three to
- 9:04Speaker 1: two three zero five five night too. You can call
- 9:07Speaker 1: me and talk about that. I'm gonna telling you I
- 9:09Speaker 1: have these liberty openness now, because once I started interviewing,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I don't stop my interviews and take phone calls. I'm
- 9:16Speaker 1: just people always be calling me in the middle of
- 9:18Speaker 1: a great interview. I just can't stop talking to my
- 9:21Speaker 1: great interview. Then hell an your questions. That's why I
- 9:24Speaker 1: try to give you a little window up top, a
- 9:27Speaker 1: little one on the back end. I'm trying to take
- 9:30Speaker 1: more and more phone call. People keep saying, Rashan, you
- 9:33Speaker 1: need that engagement, ri Shan, you need to let people
- 9:37Speaker 1: start talking to you. Ri Shall you talk too much?
- 9:41Speaker 1: We Shan make Donna. People want to hear from you. Rishean.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Won't you comment on your Facebook page? People need to
- 9:49Speaker 1: know they leave it comments, you're not responded to them
- 9:52Speaker 1: on your Facebook page. Mighty to make conversations, Rishan, you're
- 9:55Speaker 1: leaving your fans hanging. Rishane, what are you trying to do?
- 10:00Speaker 1: You grab you gavinizing all these people and you're not
- 10:02Speaker 1: reacting to the engagement. Lord, have mercy. Why when you
- 10:07Speaker 1: become successful, there's a lot of things that jump on
- 10:09Speaker 1: your plate that you cannot do anything about but respond
- 10:13Speaker 1: in a positive manner. That's why I'm smiling. If you're
- 10:17Speaker 1: watching me on Facebook, you can see him smiling because
- 10:20Speaker 1: I'm happy. I'm happy because May first on this station,
- 10:24Speaker 1: when it was k Y and D I started money
- 10:27Speaker 1: making conversation. I started I was only gonna do it
- 10:29Speaker 1: for four weeks, and now we are at October twenty three,
- 10:34Speaker 1: that's more than four weeks. And I feel I found
- 10:36Speaker 1: a voice. I found there an opportunity to be able
- 10:39Speaker 1: to change people's lives. And that's what and the and
- 10:43Speaker 1: the the mantra or the theme or the the about
- 10:48Speaker 1: of money making change has evolved every month to where
- 10:51Speaker 1: I feel now I am telling you what I'm going
- 10:53Speaker 1: to do. My job is to give you the secrets,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and there are secrets if you don't know. I was
- 10:59Speaker 1: with my nephew the other day just talking about business,
- 11:03Speaker 1: breaking it down to him, and I can just see it.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And he's been in business for over ten years and
- 11:08Speaker 1: things I was telling him, he looked at me like
- 11:11Speaker 1: he had never heard before. And that just lets you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: just because you're in business don't mean you know all
- 11:16Speaker 1: the the small steps of being successful, because a lot
- 11:20Speaker 1: of things that you are doing may not be right.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And just because you're making money, the way you're making
- 11:25Speaker 1: money might not be the real money to make long turn.
- 11:29Speaker 1: So the goal in this whole situation is for you
- 11:31Speaker 1: to win, not only for yourself, for you to win
- 11:34Speaker 1: for everybody around you, for you to for you to
- 11:36Speaker 1: do your accounting correctly, for you to hire your employees
- 11:40Speaker 1: and work them correctly. If you have health plans and
- 11:43Speaker 1: you own it, then they need to be on that.
- 11:45Speaker 1: You know, some people think that just because you can
- 11:47Speaker 1: make everybody you hire contract worker. Can't do that. If
- 11:51Speaker 1: you acquire that they come in at a certain time
- 11:54Speaker 1: every day, at a certain time, they are employees. So
- 11:57Speaker 1: these are little things like that that I can tell
- 11:59Speaker 1: you and help you along the way, and don't feel
- 12:02Speaker 1: bad if you don't know. Don't feel bad if you
- 12:04Speaker 1: don't know because you don't know it. Guess what called
- 12:08Speaker 1: me and I would tell you how to learn. And
- 12:11Speaker 1: that's what money making conversations about. It's about helping you learn. Now. Also,
- 12:15Speaker 1: one quick note, the deadline tomorrow is uh for the
- 12:19Speaker 1: SBA loans. The deadline tomorrow SBA Loans got on the call,
- 12:23Speaker 1: Bobby right, Bobby right? Yeah, Sean, my man, how you
- 12:27Speaker 1: doing about right this? Mother? Uh? Let's look a few
- 12:31Speaker 1: weeks ago entrepreneurs on your show. H we'll undermasus, sir.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And you said you you said, uh, we're sharing the
- 12:44Speaker 1: clothes and the white sheet, you know with my mother.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Blah blah blah. You know this is not your unless
- 12:50Speaker 1: your your mom was a Wahia. That's what I mean.
- 12:54Speaker 1: What's it what you're doing difference showing what you talking
- 12:57Speaker 1: about the laundromat lady was on the call from in Atlanta.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Larder or what I'm doing different? Yea, it's based in
- 13:07Speaker 1: the Latta, Georgia. What she's doing different is it's kind
- 13:09Speaker 1: of like Starbucks meets a laundromat. You know, they're WiFi
- 13:12Speaker 1: in there. What you don't see the traditional launder mat.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Launder art machines are digitally operator. You can use your
- 13:18Speaker 1: credit card, which you don't see the traditional laund to matt.
- 13:21Speaker 1: She also has satellite TV. What you don't see the
- 13:23Speaker 1: additional laundromat. And also she has a playground area for
- 13:26Speaker 1: kids to play because she renovated an old McDonald's, so
- 13:30Speaker 1: you know those old McDonald's with those built in playground areas,
- 13:34Speaker 1: where she held onto that and built the laundron mat
- 13:36Speaker 1: out of that. So basically she's seeking an opportunity to
- 13:39Speaker 1: take what she's doing in an impoverished neighborhood. That's what
- 13:43Speaker 1: she wanted to emphasize that she was going back in
- 13:45Speaker 1: the hood and and before gentrification comes in and takes over,
- 13:50Speaker 1: she's coming in early. So let people know you can
- 13:53Speaker 1: create your own wealth and empowerment and become a taxing community.
- 13:57Speaker 1: If you become a taxing community, when you would generate wealth,
- 14:01Speaker 1: and then guess what, the police start showing up on
- 14:03Speaker 1: time and they start building buildings around your place of
- 14:05Speaker 1: business that can be taxed, and that's all this is
- 14:08Speaker 1: about taxes. Okay, so so so, so that's what she
- 14:13Speaker 1: was saying. She's not coming the prisons though she's going
- 14:16Speaker 1: the world. I wasn't. Yes, you know, yes she's going.
- 14:20Speaker 1: And you know and and and under the improvised communities
- 14:24Speaker 1: they don't have and they don't sell your apartment complexes,
- 14:27Speaker 1: they don't have lundon match of washing machines in your
- 14:30Speaker 1: apartment complexes generally or in your apartment are condos. And
- 14:35Speaker 1: so where I live, you know, I can go in
- 14:37Speaker 1: and and look at the floor play and go they
- 14:39Speaker 1: got a laundromat in the facility or they have I
- 14:43Speaker 1: got one in my apartment I have. I've lived in
- 14:45Speaker 1: New York, I lived in in Chicago, in l A
- 14:48Speaker 1: the last years, I've always had Washington drawer in my
- 14:53Speaker 1: condor of my apartment, and that's not available to people
- 14:56Speaker 1: that in partished neighborhood liberary. I gotta go, my man.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I appreciate your ca the hood. You stay strong and
- 15:01Speaker 1: keep coling, y'all. I appreciate you. Biby Ray again coming up.
- 15:06Speaker 1: All right, be strong now, hey, team money Making comes
- 15:09Speaker 1: to that money making conversations. Be right back with my
- 15:11Speaker 1: first power couple, Dr Nikki and Eugene Walter Curly Nicki

- 15:49Speaker 1: I'm here to UH change your life. At the top
- 15:52Speaker 1: of my show today, I promoted that I will be
- 15:54Speaker 1: featuring power couples, husband and wife teams who are working
- 15:57Speaker 1: together and being very successful. Uh. Found in the two
- 16:00Speaker 1: thousand a curly Nikki dot com for natural hair has
- 16:04Speaker 1: become the largest and most popular blog of its kind.

- 16:13Speaker 1: countries who rely on Walton's personal journey, advice and perspective.

- 16:21Speaker 1: Nikki dot com, Doctor and Mrs Eugene Walton. Tell you,
- 16:28Speaker 1: let me tell you something. Eugene, Can I just talk
- 16:31Speaker 1: to you for a minute? Man, just talk to you? Okay? So,
- 16:34Speaker 1: because you know I I called, I called up your wife.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell your wife because this is a husband
- 16:41Speaker 1: and wife power team interview. You don't saying inter you
- 16:47Speaker 1: hit me? Hit me that, okay? So I said, I said,
- 16:50Speaker 1: can you send me ten questions so I can interview
- 16:53Speaker 1: you guys ten questions now so I can interview you too? Okay, y'all?
- 17:00Speaker 1: You got it right? Why ca y'all? So this morning
- 17:06Speaker 1: I looked toward again, I went and I called I said, uh,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I said a Nikki, is your husband gonna be on
- 17:14Speaker 1: the call? She said, I said, why he ain't mentioned?
- 17:19Speaker 1: And nothing to take. I'm a silent part I think
- 17:24Speaker 1: I'll respond to shut he gonna We're gonna equally respond.
- 17:28Speaker 1: But guess what you got no question for me to
- 17:30Speaker 1: ask him everything business development, to teach you pardner ships,
- 17:36Speaker 1: I said, why I didn't get a question like that? Now,
- 17:39Speaker 1: So that that lets me know that you're very humble
- 17:43Speaker 1: and gay and truly a background man. Absolutely, And if
- 17:49Speaker 1: I you know, I always tell people when I when
- 17:52Speaker 1: I introduced him, NICKI that don't you know that don't
- 17:54Speaker 1: know us? Is that my wife is much more beautiful
- 17:56Speaker 1: than I am. Don't be don't be alarmed. And so
- 18:01Speaker 1: I'm happy to have been a silent partner into and
- 18:04Speaker 1: to um be there to support and think strategically and
- 18:08Speaker 1: kind of logically about about the business that she has
- 18:10Speaker 1: gone out and done really incredible things well immediate. You know,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I've been knowing her for a minute because of the
- 18:16Speaker 1: fact that hoppercollins when I had Steve over there, Steve
- 18:20Speaker 1: Harvey being and we had launched out very successfully the
- 18:24Speaker 1: uh act like a lady. You know, uh think like
- 18:26Speaker 1: a man series that's over three million copies. We had
- 18:31Speaker 1: the same agent over there. I say edited, I should say, uh,
- 18:34Speaker 1: Don Davis, and she told me she we have just
- 18:36Speaker 1: she's we have this really talented author about natural hair.
- 18:41Speaker 1: You know, I'm a ball here, dude. So you really
- 18:44Speaker 1: you really ain't gonna get my attention real quick, doc,
- 18:48Speaker 1: And so she said, Rush, could you get them on?
- 18:50Speaker 1: Could you get them on our show? Can you can
- 18:52Speaker 1: you help promote to get her brand out there? So
- 18:54Speaker 1: that was the first time I was exposed to her.
- 18:56Speaker 1: And it's been a tremendous blessing. I would say, to
- 19:00Speaker 1: have her in my life and uh and also to
- 19:03Speaker 1: see the changes that she's made two people around the world,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you know, and it's been a journey and it's been amazing.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And so but she told me that you are the
- 19:11Speaker 1: inspiration behind Nikki dot com. Talk to me, yes, sir, yeah, yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and really quickly before we start, let me just mention
- 19:18Speaker 1: that people may not know this, but at that time, you,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I mean you, you Nikki reach out to you um
- 19:24Speaker 1: as well, and you would responded and and you just
- 19:27Speaker 1: were a great um resource for us in general, you know.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Unrelated to brain promotion and stuff like JA. If people
- 19:34Speaker 1: don't know that that that something people should know is
- 19:36Speaker 1: that your pro community and um, you know this is
- 19:38Speaker 1: not the first time we talked, and usually when we talked,
- 19:41Speaker 1: I got questions for you and you're the share and
- 19:44Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I gotta tell you. I got to
- 19:48Speaker 1: and I and I respect both for you know they
- 19:51Speaker 1: think about it is that people ask me that. And
- 19:53Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. Doing this radio show, I
- 19:57Speaker 1: didn't realize what I was doing. You know, I would
- 19:59Speaker 1: just doing stuff out of respect, out of opportunity. You know,
- 20:03Speaker 1: God has given me knowledge and information that I am.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I have to share. I have to give it away
- 20:10Speaker 1: if I take it to the grave. What purpose have
- 20:12Speaker 1: I served on this planet to just be that selfish?
- 20:15Speaker 1: And so when people ask me questions, and I mean
- 20:19Speaker 1: on the phone this we could I get like six
- 20:21Speaker 1: or seven calls a weekend from either celebrities, athletes, CEOs
- 20:27Speaker 1: seeking advice and regular people seeking advice about what could
- 20:31Speaker 1: I sign this? Could I do this? And then my
- 20:33Speaker 1: wife would look at me, go, you should be charging them.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You should be charging them. I know why you can
- 20:37Speaker 1: win the free advice. You should be charging them. I go, baby, everybody,
- 20:44Speaker 1: she'd be landing that bad man be looking at me. Oh,
- 20:47Speaker 1: or you you're just gonna just give away some most
- 20:49Speaker 1: free advice. That's that's that's me, That's how I operate it.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Can I just be me? And that's why I was
- 20:57Speaker 1: just telling telling Nikki on the phone this morning. Could
- 20:59Speaker 1: I find that who her husband is? Yeah, let me
- 21:03Speaker 1: tell you. Let me tell you the story. So, um,
- 21:05Speaker 1: you know, so we've been together for sixteen years. We're
- 21:09Speaker 1: thirty four years old, and people always here that we've
- 21:11Speaker 1: been together for so long, and they're like, when did
- 21:13Speaker 1: you guys get together? You know? Um? But really what
- 21:16Speaker 1: happened was very simple. I went to college and I was,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you know, freshman week in college is ready to meet
- 21:21Speaker 1: everybody I could, if you know what I meant? Um,
- 21:24Speaker 1: And I walked past. Uh. Actually this very probably the
- 21:27Speaker 1: thinnest woman I've ever met him between in my life,
- 21:30Speaker 1: very pretty while passed me. And you know, we went
- 21:33Speaker 1: to a small school that only had like a hundred
- 21:36Speaker 1: black folks that in the first place. So I'm like,
- 21:38Speaker 1: she didn't speak to me, you know, um. And so
- 21:40Speaker 1: I was like the next time I see her she's
- 21:42Speaker 1: gonna talk to me. So you know, we we started
- 21:44Speaker 1: off as friends for a month and been dating ever since.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Um yeah, sir, um, So you know, do you want
- 21:51Speaker 1: to tell your story about I had an issue with
- 21:54Speaker 1: my hair. I hated it. I hated my hair when
- 21:57Speaker 1: it was natural. I only loved myself when my hair
- 22:00Speaker 1: was perfectly bone straight. And Eugene had like a nineteen
- 22:04Speaker 1: nineties four Corsica at the time, So he would take
- 22:06Speaker 1: me to and from St. Louis, Missouri, which was where
- 22:09Speaker 1: my hair stylus was. That's a three hour trip one way.
- 22:12Speaker 1: He would take me all the way there. If my
- 22:14Speaker 1: hair fresh school as love, become back to school, only
- 22:19Speaker 1: for it to sweat out again because we didn't even
- 22:21Speaker 1: have air conditioning in the dorm because we went to
- 22:23Speaker 1: school a million years ago. So it was just it
- 22:26Speaker 1: was ridiculous. And he pulled me to the side at
- 22:28Speaker 1: one point and he's like, making your a psychology major.
- 22:30Speaker 1: You're a beautiful girl. You should realize that this is
- 22:33Speaker 1: an issue. You were just as beautiful with your hair curly,
- 22:37Speaker 1: you know, as as when it's straight. And I hadn't
- 22:40Speaker 1: ever heard that before, I think verbalized. So it took
- 22:44Speaker 1: me back for a minute, and then I started researching
- 22:46Speaker 1: and learning how to do my own hair up. And
- 22:48Speaker 1: to that point I had never even washed my own hair.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I had always gone to the salon. All I knew
- 22:53Speaker 1: how to do was keep it straight. So it was
- 22:56Speaker 1: really him that took me to that place of recognition
- 22:59Speaker 1: and that led to my freedom um and eventually the
- 23:02Speaker 1: freedom of other women. It was also get his idea
- 23:05Speaker 1: to actually start the blog. After about five or six
- 23:08Speaker 1: years of intense research and even sharing what I was
- 23:10Speaker 1: learning real time with members of several forums around the web,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I got very very popular, very well known in those spaces,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and teams would get annoyed because it's like he had
- 23:21Speaker 1: woken up this monster in me, and he's like, Mackey,
- 23:23Speaker 1: you're always on the computer, Like what are you doing?
- 23:26Speaker 1: And why are we not being paid for this? All day?
- 23:30Speaker 1: We're not talking no more, like oh it's busy. He said,
- 23:33Speaker 1: why don't you start your own site and let these
- 23:35Speaker 1: women come and you know, talk to you and maybe
- 23:37Speaker 1: he can make some money. And I'm like, oh, who
- 23:39Speaker 1: would ever want to hear me talk about hair every day?
- 23:41Speaker 1: And it's me two months to get up my courage
- 23:44Speaker 1: to launch the website and the rest of history. It
- 23:47Speaker 1: was all It was Jean's idea to start curly Nicky
- 23:50Speaker 1: dot com and it's been an amazing resource, of amazing
- 23:54Speaker 1: positive platform for so many women. What exactly is the
- 23:59Speaker 1: little story about my daughter, my daughter, you know, my wife,
- 24:03Speaker 1: and that during it burnt all my daughter's hair out
- 24:06Speaker 1: her head because it was easy. You know you're going there.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Once you get that perm, you don't have to worry
- 24:12Speaker 1: about it no more. And we all and it took
- 24:14Speaker 1: it took about two years to get it back right,
- 24:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Because but but the reason
- 24:20Speaker 1: we did it was laziness. I'll be honest with you.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Look cute, but it was laziness because of the fact
- 24:25Speaker 1: that you could take it in there and at last
- 24:27Speaker 1: it was just straight. And so now you know, we
- 24:29Speaker 1: flat iron it out if she wants it done that way.
- 24:32Speaker 1: But we don't do any more perms anymore. And so
- 24:34Speaker 1: I say that to say, what exactly is natural hair? Right?
- 24:39Speaker 1: So natural hair is you embracing and learning to love
- 24:43Speaker 1: and work with and care for your natural texture at
- 24:46Speaker 1: roads from your scouts. So actually caring for it as
- 24:50Speaker 1: opposed to just maintaining it, which is the way we
- 24:53Speaker 1: were hot growing up. Even with your daughter, we knew
- 24:55Speaker 1: how to name hate our straight hair. I never knew
- 24:58Speaker 1: how to care for now true hair. So it consists
- 25:01Speaker 1: of going natural by either big chopping meaning cutting off
- 25:04Speaker 1: all of the relaxed hair and one self group, or
- 25:08Speaker 1: just gradually transitioning, cutting off little bits at a time. Um,
- 25:12Speaker 1: it sounds like that's maybe what you all do with
- 25:13Speaker 1: your daughter, so natural in that way, and then learning
- 25:16Speaker 1: to actually style and care for and love the natural
- 25:20Speaker 1: hair that you have. You now, I want to make
- 25:22Speaker 1: sure now when we apply a hot iron, is that's
- 25:26Speaker 1: still the natural way? Are we You're still natural? It's
- 25:30Speaker 1: important to know that natural hair is very versatile, so
- 25:32Speaker 1: you can do lots of different styles. You can blow
- 25:34Speaker 1: it out, you can wear it straight, you can wear
- 25:36Speaker 1: to a throw, you can wear it and it twisted out.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I just caution my readers, my hair is straight right now.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Caution my readers to use proper tools and techniques when
- 25:44Speaker 1: they're doing these things so that they don't ran back
- 25:46Speaker 1: in the same place, needing to transition out of damage. Okay,
- 25:50Speaker 1: don't because I really want to talk about this, because
- 25:52Speaker 1: because the word natural just help me with this because
- 25:56Speaker 1: I want to get the language. I don't want to
- 25:57Speaker 1: sound crazy, but you know that were natural means because
- 26:01Speaker 1: you see women with different styles and sometimes it just
- 26:04Speaker 1: looks bush. It just looks like just hairs on their heads.
- 26:10Speaker 1: You know, it's just on their head and so so,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and I want to I want to get some callers there.
- 26:14Speaker 1: And also because that might be confused that you gotta
- 26:18Speaker 1: look like that that's natural. But you just told me,
- 26:20Speaker 1: we're sure you can straighten out your hair, you can
- 26:23Speaker 1: use a hot and that's still the natural hairs. Exactly
- 26:27Speaker 1: what you're saying is like, there's there's women with relax
- 26:29Speaker 1: hair walking around her looking crazy, noting, not calm, not frush.
- 26:33Speaker 1: There's natural hair women out here looking crazy too. I'm
- 26:36Speaker 1: talking about natural hair together, you know, like caring for it,
- 26:41Speaker 1: sawing it. You know, that's a different whole thing. And
- 26:44Speaker 1: that is natural hair. Now natural as in like not
- 26:47Speaker 1: manipulating it. That's not what we're talking about. We're still
- 26:50Speaker 1: talking about I love, I love, I love because you
- 26:56Speaker 1: know something, I can never have said what she said
- 26:59Speaker 1: out of the blast of those social media you know,
- 27:02Speaker 1: she used to word manipulated, So I would never work manipulated.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I listened that had look at all crazy. That's what
- 27:09Speaker 1: I'll be looking at. I don't want my daughter had
- 27:11Speaker 1: looking like that because because you know what you're called
- 27:14Speaker 1: that blasted with the natural look. Was Beyonce daughter blue?
- 27:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, she got blasted because her daughter hair was
- 27:22Speaker 1: just just there, you know. And and but they were
- 27:25Speaker 1: saying that was the natural look for her daughter to
- 27:28Speaker 1: sport her hair like that. I know that that's the
- 27:32Speaker 1: that's the eight months year old that kind of popped
- 27:35Speaker 1: up there in your lives. I see. I know both
- 27:37Speaker 1: of them. They speak the baby, but they happen, they're happy,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and so my whole thing is that and dealing with
- 27:45Speaker 1: these different things. When I come back, I want to
- 27:47Speaker 1: talk about these different strategic partnerships that you guys are
- 27:50Speaker 1: created and also the brand build because it's important that
- 27:54Speaker 1: everybody here, the energy between you know, Eugene and Nikki,
- 28:00Speaker 1: and that's why empowerment is important because you do win.
- 28:04Speaker 1: You know, I would not be here today if my
- 28:07Speaker 1: wife didn't support me, even I would say that. You know,
- 28:10Speaker 1: when I was on the road telling jokes, she was
- 28:12Speaker 1: in there looking at people eyeballs because she was an optometrys.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't make it no money, and so so I
- 28:18Speaker 1: know that there has to be a partnership in order
- 28:21Speaker 1: for this to become successful. When we come back, we're
- 28:24Speaker 1: gonna talk about the strategic partnerships and talk some more.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And again, I'm just so happy to have both of
- 28:29Speaker 1: you guys on the show. And it is not the
- 28:31Speaker 1: first time or the last time we're gonna talk. Be
- 28:33Speaker 1: right back with more money making conversations with the founders
- 28:36Speaker 1: of Curly Nicki dot com. Hi, this ra Sean McDonald.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I'm back with money making conversations on the phone or
- 28:44Speaker 1: the founders of Curly Nicki dot coms. Once. They're good
- 28:47Speaker 1: friends because I've known them for a long time now
- 28:51Speaker 1: and it's been special watching their growth and uh, watching
- 28:55Speaker 1: their travels. And they got a new one in new one,
- 29:00Speaker 1: new one in the phone now eight months old, she
- 29:02Speaker 1: said Richean, I didn't expect this, But I'm gonna get
- 29:04Speaker 1: back in shape really quick. I'm gonna be like serena week.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Ain't nobody gonna know what's happened to me. I'm just
- 29:09Speaker 1: gonna have this baby. They're gonna be just gonna hit
- 29:11Speaker 1: some nods in the background. It's gonna it is gonna.
- 29:14Speaker 1: So happy to have back on the phone doctor, doctor
- 29:17Speaker 1: Eugene walteron and Nicky Walter. How you doing good? Good?
- 29:21Speaker 1: Thanks for having us. Well, it's great to uh. You know,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I always tell people when you do interviews like this,
- 29:27Speaker 1: this is like it's part of the process you know
- 29:30Speaker 1: you're doing. You get the word out and if you
- 29:32Speaker 1: you keep layering opportunity on top of opportunities, and it's
- 29:35Speaker 1: not really like it's gonna be a home run. You know,
- 29:37Speaker 1: whether you do Steve Harvard Show, you do Doctor as
- 29:40Speaker 1: you do Rachel Ray, or you do you know, the
- 29:42Speaker 1: view all this stuff. You have to just continue to
- 29:45Speaker 1: keep in motion. It's about the marketing and the brandy.
- 29:48Speaker 1: What are your thoughts when I say something like that,
- 29:50Speaker 1: Eugene um marketing and brandy? You know what's funny Um,
- 29:54Speaker 1: because if you if you think about what Nick's been doing,
- 29:57Speaker 1: this is she's nine years in at this point and
- 30:00Speaker 1: has more influence now than when she started. And I
- 30:03Speaker 1: think one of the more interesting things that led to
- 30:06Speaker 1: that was the focus the business model that she pursued.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I mean, she she ran a consumer based or consumer
- 30:13Speaker 1: focused business model, which in case you know, anybody was listening.
- 30:17Speaker 1: That's not an easy way to make money, right, because
- 30:19Speaker 1: the commodity you're selling is objective information. And so with
- 30:24Speaker 1: Nikki it was you know, if I so when I
- 30:26Speaker 1: take consumer base, I say, the core idea is that
- 30:30Speaker 1: however you package and sell your product, does not compromise
- 30:33Speaker 1: the integrity of that product in a way that would
- 30:35Speaker 1: hurt the consumer. And so really what she did was
- 30:38Speaker 1: focused on putting on high quality content that spoke to
- 30:42Speaker 1: upperly mobile you know, ethnic primarily black women, UM, and
- 30:47Speaker 1: pursuing an integrity based model in terms of the things
- 30:50Speaker 1: she promoted and in particular things that she passed on
- 30:52Speaker 1: promoting UM and the and the various moneys she left
- 30:55Speaker 1: on the table, and she left a lot of play
- 30:56Speaker 1: on the table. I witnessed it myself, UM, and was broke,
- 31:01Speaker 1: Like you were like just similar to the story you
- 31:02Speaker 1: were doing. It meant something to me. UM. But you know,
- 31:07Speaker 1: she put on that high quality content and really offered
- 31:09Speaker 1: a value proposition for the for the brands that wanted
- 31:12Speaker 1: to advertise, and for the consumers that needed the objective
- 31:14Speaker 1: information that made sense. UM. The brands got a concentrated,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know, collection of their potential consumers in one place
- 31:23Speaker 1: and a positive pro black um community. Um, the consumers
- 31:28Speaker 1: got objective information, and we were also putting on content.
- 31:30Speaker 1: You know, Nikki particular was really good at this putting
- 31:33Speaker 1: on really high quality, you know, promotional content. So we
- 31:36Speaker 1: did things like take our audience to the Video Music
- 31:39Speaker 1: Awards and let the meet Kevin Hart before he went
- 31:42Speaker 1: on stage, right, UM let them. You know, we did
- 31:45Speaker 1: interviews with more than a hundred black female celebrities who
- 31:48Speaker 1: talks exclusively about their hair and the struggles of being
- 31:51Speaker 1: a black woman in the media and dealing with their hair.
- 31:53Speaker 1: We change, um the live events model from a hair
- 31:57Speaker 1: show based model, which has really been was a consumer
- 32:00Speaker 1: I'm sorry, which was a was a kind of professional
- 32:03Speaker 1: inside industry event, but you know the big hair shows
- 32:06Speaker 1: now for her absolute hair show things like that, and
- 32:08Speaker 1: really turned those into consumer based events where women really
- 32:12Speaker 1: got together in lounges and bars and spot products and
- 32:15Speaker 1: had community. And you know, manufacturers really want to get
- 32:18Speaker 1: in on that. So I think, you know, focusing you know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: looking for opportunities to make money while without compromising the
- 32:24Speaker 1: core products, which was community that she was selling. UM
- 32:29Speaker 1: is the way she is the reason why she's relevant today,
- 32:31Speaker 1: But that would be my guests. Honestly, it's a phenomenon.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I don't know why she's you know, why she's been
- 32:35Speaker 1: so important to black women, But I'm happy about it.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I'm happy that we're able to do something, you know,
- 32:40Speaker 1: great for the community. I think cool. This is my
- 32:42Speaker 1: segred way to the acknowledge me of her success. Black
- 32:45Speaker 1: Enterprise named her one of the way of supposed Influential Voices,
- 32:49Speaker 1: and S has named her among their top thirty five
- 32:52Speaker 1: and under Young Black and amazing when you get these acclauds,
- 32:56Speaker 1: the accolades like these, Nikki, because I know you know
- 33:01Speaker 1: you you on these different shows. You know, do you
- 33:04Speaker 1: feel you want your own show? You want to just
- 33:07Speaker 1: be able to promote your own voice? What what's the goal?
- 33:10Speaker 1: What's the next steps with you? Nikki? You know I
- 33:13Speaker 1: and I have lots of ideas for what the next
- 33:16Speaker 1: step is. However, I'm also I believe that I'm being
- 33:21Speaker 1: um like divinely guided. I did not know that curly
- 33:25Speaker 1: Nikki dot com was going to become what it became.
- 33:28Speaker 1: You know, I was doing it because it felt good.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Um And I believe that money comes, like you know,
- 33:33Speaker 1: that supply comes when you're doing something that is coming
- 33:36Speaker 1: from that place. So you're providing a service for people.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I believe that I'm being used in many ways, and
- 33:41Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what the next iteration of
- 33:43Speaker 1: that is. You know, I still love talking about hair,
- 33:45Speaker 1: but I have other passions that I would like to
- 33:48Speaker 1: flush out a bit more. I'll be calling you soon
- 33:49Speaker 1: to talk about that. Yes, yes, and fussing at me.
- 33:56Speaker 1: But I love being on the shows. I have another
- 33:58Speaker 1: series of Doctor Odds appearances coming up. You know. It's
- 34:00Speaker 1: it's really fun. But I know that I have more
- 34:02Speaker 1: to offer to and that's that's just finding your voice
- 34:05Speaker 1: and that and that think that's really key. It'sn't finding
- 34:07Speaker 1: your voice and just like Max, he got a voice.
- 34:10Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Yeah and uh. And so
- 34:16Speaker 1: the thing about it tell us about some of the
- 34:18Speaker 1: some of the upcoming projects. I see the Lorial sponsors books.
- 34:21Speaker 1: You already mentioned the Doctor Arts appearances. UM, just just
- 34:25Speaker 1: tell us what's going in the pipeline right now, right.
- 34:28Speaker 1: So the Lorios book was actually very very special. I
- 34:31Speaker 1: actually UM was offered another book by HarperCollins, but decided
- 34:35Speaker 1: to offer this book to the audience for free as
- 34:38Speaker 1: a way to give back. Obviously, I made money because
- 34:43Speaker 1: you know, money was a really awesome promotional tool, even
- 34:46Speaker 1: though the book itself was not promotion. The book was
- 34:49Speaker 1: an actually real book. There was no you know, commercials
- 34:52Speaker 1: in my book. It was all my words. Nothing was bought.
- 34:54Speaker 1: It was amazing mutually beneficial partnership and still available for
- 35:01Speaker 1: free right now on www dot dark and lovely dot com.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Backslash Nicky Walpin. Also, I have been trying to convince
- 35:10Speaker 1: my husband for the last four years since we moved
- 35:12Speaker 1: to DC, to direct his full attention on digital marketing,
- 35:17Speaker 1: and he's finally done that. This year has been a major, major,
- 35:21Speaker 1: major ship, a major change, and he's gonna Yeah. So
- 35:25Speaker 1: I actually left teaching. I was teaching that I taught
- 35:27Speaker 1: at Penn State for three years. I taught political science,
- 35:30Speaker 1: and I taught at American University down here and uh
- 35:32Speaker 1: d C, I taught statistics. So I'm also a quantitative
- 35:35Speaker 1: methodologist by training, and um, you know, and I love teaching.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I love teaching. I love everything about working with students.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Hated everything about the industry itself, so, you know, so
- 35:46Speaker 1: she finally, you know, conversal market Yeah. And also and
- 35:49Speaker 1: while this was happening, you know, we would we would
- 35:51Speaker 1: whenever I had time off, which was every winner and
- 35:52Speaker 1: every summer, we would do our big marketing kind of initiatives. So,
- 35:56Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna do what I'm queshing out my
- 35:58Speaker 1: team right now when we're I have a selag group
- 36:01Speaker 1: of of clients, mostly black on startup business is actually
- 36:04Speaker 1: here in the dmz um that I work with now.
- 36:06Speaker 1: But I'm gonna open this up and do search engine optimization.
- 36:09Speaker 1: All the people that are in the marketing world know
- 36:10Speaker 1: this stuff and this is all well worn territory at
- 36:13Speaker 1: this point. But that's what I'm doing. I'm going full
- 36:15Speaker 1: time in the marketing and um, I'm excited. And you
- 36:17Speaker 1: know what's funny, I'm scared and that's the best time. Well.
- 36:22Speaker 1: I always tell people when you are afraid, it's the
- 36:24Speaker 1: right move because you're being pushed out of your conference
- 36:27Speaker 1: zone and I'm here. People use the words fear, people
- 36:30Speaker 1: use the words selfish incorrectly as far as I'm concerned,
- 36:34Speaker 1: because you have to be selfish to to deny other
- 36:39Speaker 1: things in life in order to be successful. I know
- 36:42Speaker 1: for a fact that I selfishly, you know, when my
- 36:45Speaker 1: family was living used, I selfishly was living in New York.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I was selfishly living in l A and denied my
- 36:51Speaker 1: daughter and opportunity to your dad on a daily basis.
- 36:54Speaker 1: But I was there as much as I could. But
- 36:57Speaker 1: I knew the bigger upside was it if I could
- 36:59Speaker 1: keep success, it could change our lives financially. And it
- 37:01Speaker 1: did you know every time when I moved to New York,
- 37:05Speaker 1: I was afraid. I moved to Chicago with the talk shows,
- 37:07Speaker 1: afraid I moved to l A. I was afraid because
- 37:10Speaker 1: there's so much uncertainty and people people just deny themselves
- 37:15Speaker 1: so much from fear. They stay at regular jobs and
- 37:20Speaker 1: they don't make them because they're afraid to find a
- 37:22Speaker 1: new job or somebody may not harm or they might
- 37:25Speaker 1: go the new job and they might close, or they
- 37:27Speaker 1: might get fired, or they don't know anybody over there.
- 37:30Speaker 1: So that's that's the part of the game that I
- 37:33Speaker 1: really respect in my relationship with Nikki over the years.
- 37:37Speaker 1: And here and you're going out in this new digital platform,
- 37:39Speaker 1: is that called me my friend? I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 37:42Speaker 1: say my friend because that's what I built this show on.
- 37:45Speaker 1: And I may have some opportunities going on because I
- 37:47Speaker 1: just a lot of people knowing the media. I just
- 37:50Speaker 1: closed this UH Air Force Extreme Air National Guard uh
- 37:55Speaker 1: deal for three years when handling all the branding and
- 37:59Speaker 1: marketing and tensing and trying for fifty states. Yes, our
- 38:03Speaker 1: headquarters are gonna win. Our headquarters will be in the
- 38:06Speaker 1: DC market. And so so it's important that you you
- 38:09Speaker 1: get that digital thing together and reach out to me.
- 38:12Speaker 1: And that's all this is about. It's about gathering information
- 38:15Speaker 1: and and and combining it. So so this started out
- 38:18Speaker 1: as a casual conversation now as a money making conversation,
- 38:23Speaker 1: and that's what it's all. That's great to hear, you know,
- 38:26Speaker 1: talking to somebody like you. I mean, I think the
- 38:27Speaker 1: first time I talked to you, you are already too
- 38:30Speaker 1: emmies and I think, yes, I mean I think you
- 38:32Speaker 1: might have been going things like you know, So to
- 38:35Speaker 1: hear somebody say, you know who was at a completely
- 38:38Speaker 1: different level than you would say, Hey, you know, I'm
- 38:41Speaker 1: nervous or I'm scared to do things, and really to
- 38:43Speaker 1: see how even what you're doing now, I love it,
- 38:45Speaker 1: you know. So it's really great to hear that. I
- 38:47Speaker 1: take a lot of inspiration and encouragement from watching the
- 38:49Speaker 1: folks like yourself. So here we about to close out
- 38:52Speaker 1: this interview. Nikki Gott, you gotta been in touch with
- 38:54Speaker 1: me so we can really get re balance, find out
- 38:56Speaker 1: where you're going, so we can get everything structure not
- 39:00Speaker 1: doc you know. First of all, I appreciate your Nikki

- 39:17Speaker 1: on that, but I feel they can play an important role.
- 39:20Speaker 1: And what I'm trying to reach is that millennial market
- 39:23Speaker 1: after gen Z market eighteen to thirty four, and I'm
- 39:27Speaker 1: trying to get there. That is my plan. I'm putting
- 39:30Speaker 1: it out in cyberspace to you. Give me appreciation, my friend,
- 39:34Speaker 1: give me appreciation. Okay again, that's where everything is going.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I appreciate you again. I'm on the phone with their founders,

- 40:19Speaker 1: two zero five five nine two. That's eight three two
- 40:23Speaker 1: zero five five nine two. This Rashan mcgonald, the host
- 40:25Speaker 1: of Money Making Conversation. Let's get started with our next guest.
- 40:29Speaker 1: My next guest is a true moti vader. He's a
- 40:32Speaker 1: former small time crook gang member, state trooper, Air Force veteran,
- 40:38Speaker 1: and World Right Now chess champion. He's the author of
- 40:41Speaker 1: the number one Amazon bestselling book One Move at a Time,
- 40:44Speaker 1: How to Win a Chest in Life. Please welcome the
- 40:47Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation or in Checkmate Hudson, Mr Hudson, How
- 40:55Speaker 1: you doing, Mr Hutson, Yes, sir, they how are you
- 41:03Speaker 1: doing it? They? I can hear now they're pressing the
- 41:06Speaker 1: wrong buttons up here, Robert over here pressing all the
- 41:08Speaker 1: wrong buttons. Man talking about you on the call and
- 41:10Speaker 1: I'm I'm laying out that great interview and there's great intro.
- 41:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something, man, you know you just
- 41:16Speaker 1: can't hire your cousins man, the high family brother. You know,
- 41:20Speaker 1: I'm claiming him and his family because otherwise I had
- 41:22Speaker 1: to get rid of I ain't doing Mr Hudson. Oh.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Like I say, the best day of my life. I
- 41:29Speaker 1: get there, talk to some bringing people and connect with you.
- 41:32Speaker 1: It's always a good thing. Well, I want to I
- 41:34Speaker 1: know I wanted to. Uh. I mentioned in the intro
- 41:37Speaker 1: about small time crook gang member, state trooper, Air Force
- 41:42Speaker 1: veteran and world right now chess champion. Can we can
- 41:46Speaker 1: we go through each layer so we can tell people
- 41:48Speaker 1: about this journey as to how we're on the phone today.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Where are you? Where are you originally from? Where are
- 41:55Speaker 1: you originally from? Imham, Alabama? I was. I was in
- 41:59Speaker 1: a family. But I have I have twelve brothers and twelves.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I mean six brothers and six sisters, so I have
- 42:05Speaker 1: it's thirteen of us altogether. My sister had a child,
- 42:08Speaker 1: so it was about fourteen of us in the house
- 42:10Speaker 1: at one time. And a guy came to me and said, um,
- 42:14Speaker 1: if you want to have all these goodies that I
- 42:16Speaker 1: got here came into me a box of honey buns
- 42:18Speaker 1: and snacks and stuff like, Davia, if you want to
- 42:20Speaker 1: have this, you got to do what we say do
- 42:22Speaker 1: And I said, okay, I'm in. So I was somewhat
- 42:24Speaker 1: of a gang that walk around breaking in Greg cookie
- 42:27Speaker 1: trucks and stealing snacks out of him to provide for
- 42:30Speaker 1: the family at home and come home with a boxer
- 42:33Speaker 1: all kind of goodies. And uh, I was somewhat the
- 42:36Speaker 1: hero for the family. Now is that the small time
- 42:39Speaker 1: crook or the gang member? Which one is that? That's
- 42:41Speaker 1: the phone, that's the phone. That's a combination of both,
- 42:44Speaker 1: that's both. I was following, following the wrong people, doing
- 42:48Speaker 1: the wrong things, and uh, making some bad choices. Now,
- 42:51Speaker 1: how long did you make those bad choices? And who
- 42:53Speaker 1: snapped you out of those bad choices? Well, a white
- 42:56Speaker 1: teacher by the name of James Edge pulled me to
- 42:59Speaker 1: the side and taught me chest and kind of broke
- 43:01Speaker 1: the cycle over of taking and changed the cycle from
- 43:05Speaker 1: taking the giving and serving other people. So he taught
- 43:08Speaker 1: me chess and the think things through. Don't do the
- 43:10Speaker 1: first thing to pop in your head, right, and that's what.
- 43:14Speaker 1: That's what that's one of the true components of chest right, Yes, sir, okay, guy,
- 43:18Speaker 1: I think things through because one moon could call you
- 43:20Speaker 1: the game. Okay, now, okay, we've got people out there.
- 43:24Speaker 1: What about dominoes? What about checkers? Well, checkers is okay,
- 43:29Speaker 1: but it's not as complicated and complex. Life is complex.
- 43:33Speaker 1: So Chess and Mike are like in that. You got
- 43:36Speaker 1: black and white checkers. There's no queen on the board.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Chest The queen is on the board, and she's seven
- 43:42Speaker 1: times more powerful than the king, just like in life. Absolutely, absolutely,
- 43:48Speaker 1: And when they want to want to know, they want
- 43:49Speaker 1: to know what women shopping, they want to know what
- 43:52Speaker 1: television shows women are watching. They want to know what
- 43:54Speaker 1: they're buying, what are they thinking? The world is run
- 43:57Speaker 1: and make all the decisions. Absolutely, So that's what the
- 44:00Speaker 1: whole thought process of chess comes in. Okay. So so
- 44:03Speaker 1: now you're randing this this gentleman, he changed your life,
- 44:07Speaker 1: taught you chess. Now, how did you become a state trooper? I? Uh,
- 44:13Speaker 1: like I say, I became the state Alabama state troop
- 44:16Speaker 1: but applied and uh I never forget because I said
- 44:20Speaker 1: it was six hundred people took the test and instructor said, listen,
- 44:25Speaker 1: six hundred you gots taking the test. We only got
- 44:28Speaker 1: to hire a hundred. So we're gonna take the the
- 44:31Speaker 1: top how to test scores and we're gonna work from there.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So I tell kids all the time, make sure you
- 44:38Speaker 1: get the education because if you don't, if you don't
- 44:41Speaker 1: go high on FAM, guess what are you out. So
- 44:44Speaker 1: you got to be able to provide, you know, and
- 44:47Speaker 1: do well and score well. So I, you know, I
- 44:50Speaker 1: was like, I think I was number third or three,
- 44:51Speaker 1: So I was in so so so we went from
- 44:55Speaker 1: a small time crook slash gang member. Now you're a
- 44:59Speaker 1: state trooper. Now military came in your life, Air Force veteran.
- 45:03Speaker 1: How important was that role? Well, the Air Force is
- 45:07Speaker 1: very important because you know, you've got to serve our
- 45:10Speaker 1: country and we've got to try to do what we
- 45:13Speaker 1: can to help others, and the military and the State
- 45:18Speaker 1: troopers basically saying service protect. But I really, really, I'm
- 45:24Speaker 1: really expired by what I do. Now, what you're teaching
- 45:26Speaker 1: young people, brains before bullets and think it out and
- 45:29Speaker 1: don't shoot it at That's the main message I want
- 45:32Speaker 1: to get out to our young people. That there's a
- 45:34Speaker 1: better way to choose peace instead of violence. But all
- 45:37Speaker 1: that's part of your journey though. That's why I wanted
- 45:39Speaker 1: to make sure that you know, because you know, you're
- 45:42Speaker 1: such a good speaker and you're such a good motivator.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I just wanted to hear people on my show that
- 45:46Speaker 1: I brought the back to tell your story, because that
- 45:49Speaker 1: story the locks now why you have this passion, why
- 45:53Speaker 1: you can because as a state trooper, you've seen violence,
- 45:56Speaker 1: You've seen that journey, that note that did in journey
- 45:59Speaker 1: for so many youths that you're trying to save today.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And then when you went into the military, that was
- 46:05Speaker 1: a great option, but that still is tied to violence.
- 46:08Speaker 1: And so those two levels focused you now to who
- 46:12Speaker 1: you are are world right now, world renow Chess player. Yeah, well,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and mostly what I do is I teach children. Chess
- 46:20Speaker 1: is about studying what works. If you if you study
- 46:24Speaker 1: what works, okay, and if you do what works, you'll
- 46:27Speaker 1: you'll win. You'll win the game of life. But you've
- 46:30Speaker 1: got to study will work. That's all chess. The pattern recognition.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Once you know the pattern, you can play, you can prepare,
- 46:37Speaker 1: you could position and you predict, but Chess is nothing
- 46:40Speaker 1: but recognizing patterns. Learn from every decision that you make,
- 46:44Speaker 1: and don't make the same mistake twice. Make the same
- 46:47Speaker 1: mistake twice, because who don't make the same mistake twice,
- 46:50Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Because chess won't allow you that option. Well,
- 46:54Speaker 1: you gotta learn. If you don't learn, if you get
- 46:57Speaker 1: checkmated on this game, then don't do the same move.
- 47:00Speaker 1: You know, gonna make a smart move like watching the movie.
- 47:03Speaker 1: You watch a movie, you know how it ends, right,
- 47:06Speaker 1: So hey, we ain't doing that. So we ain't getting
- 47:11Speaker 1: in that cab. That cab hit the calle and that
- 47:13Speaker 1: movie ain't doing that. Now, now this all led to
- 47:16Speaker 1: your foundation be someone correct? Yes, now now it's that
- 47:22Speaker 1: I hope you see what I'm doing with this journey
- 47:23Speaker 1: because I want to tell your story, you know, you know,
- 47:27Speaker 1: because I know you quickly just motivates trying to come
- 47:30Speaker 1: up with but we gotta we got another break. We're
- 47:32Speaker 1: gonna do all that too. But I try to with
- 47:34Speaker 1: the show now is have a conversation with everybody. And
- 47:39Speaker 1: in that conversation that you have with a person like
- 47:41Speaker 1: you, you you know, with a brand so unique and chance
- 47:45Speaker 1: is a unique brand, and a lot of people don't
- 47:47Speaker 1: understand why. There's value and business in it and education
- 47:51Speaker 1: in it and life in it. And be Someone. It's
- 47:55Speaker 1: the focals. It is the basis of why you are
- 47:58Speaker 1: who you are, correct exactly. And chance is the game
- 48:02Speaker 1: of life because it's black and white and black and
- 48:06Speaker 1: white as the same. Don't play the blame game, play
- 48:08Speaker 1: the win, and it teaches you this is powerful lesson.
- 48:11Speaker 1: You have everything you need to succeed. You have your mind,
- 48:15Speaker 1: you have your ability, you have your talents, and you
- 48:18Speaker 1: have time. You could do. No one's better than you,
- 48:21Speaker 1: and you know better than anyone else. Use what you
- 48:24Speaker 1: have to get what you want. This chest that's like
- 48:27Speaker 1: and that's what that now? When when did you find
- 48:30Speaker 1: be someone? I found to be something. In one and
- 48:33Speaker 1: May May twenty and two thousand, seven people were shot
- 48:37Speaker 1: on the robbery for two thousand dollars in Queen, New York.
- 48:40Speaker 1: And I said to myself, evil prevails when good people
- 48:42Speaker 1: do nothing. So I started a crime prevention program called
- 48:45Speaker 1: be Someone May twenty May May twenty four or two
- 48:49Speaker 1: thousand to teach people to think it out stid of
- 48:52Speaker 1: shoot it out, and also to teach people to cash
- 48:54Speaker 1: in knowledge, attitudes, skills and have it. Get this cash
- 48:57Speaker 1: because once you get this cast, this cash is king. Wow.
- 49:01Speaker 1: We're gonna be right back with more of my man,
- 49:03Speaker 1: Mr Hudson, call him checkmate, talking about life changing, using
- 49:07Speaker 1: the using the game. And it may be simple to
- 49:09Speaker 1: others and may be complicated to others, but it's a
- 49:12Speaker 1: game of life that teaches you don't make the same mistake.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Why keep doing the same mistake over and over again?
- 49:17Speaker 1: And that's what people keep doing. They keep going to
- 49:20Speaker 1: work at the same job over and over again, keep
- 49:23Speaker 1: complaining about the same situation over and over again, or
- 49:27Speaker 1: keep dealing with the same relationship over and over again.
- 49:31Speaker 1: It's all complaints and my man, Mr Hudson, checkmate Hudson
- 49:35Speaker 1: will tell you how to get through it. We were
- 49:37Speaker 1: right back with more money making conversations. Don't go nowhere,
- 49:39Speaker 1: Mr Hudson, We're gonna be right back, my friend, Hide
- 49:45Speaker 1: this ra Sean McDonald. I'm back with more money making conversations.
- 49:49Speaker 1: It's a show that allows you to listen to industry
- 49:52Speaker 1: decision makers, ceo, small businesses and celebrities as they tell
- 49:57Speaker 1: you the secret to success, motivate you to win. Take
- 50:00Speaker 1: you down the lane of a lane of knowledge that
- 50:02Speaker 1: you made, not not being aware of. I guess what
- 50:05Speaker 1: you knew? It just a refresh your course on the
- 50:07Speaker 1: phone right there, Mr Rang, checkmate Hudson, how you doing?
- 50:10Speaker 1: Or oh man? Like I say, I'm just thank god
- 50:13Speaker 1: I'm here with you. Today is the best day in
- 50:15Speaker 1: my life. I get to hang out with Dr McDonald.
- 50:18Speaker 1: He's all that interfact of ship. My man, here's the deal.
- 50:22Speaker 1: You started in two thousands and you've trained over fifty
- 50:26Speaker 1: five thousand students. Mm hmm. My goal is a million,
- 50:31Speaker 1: so I have a long way to go. I'm in
- 50:32Speaker 1: l A right now, training kids and some adults, teaching
- 50:35Speaker 1: them how to think and don't do the first thing
- 50:38Speaker 1: that popped in your head. The first thing that popped
- 50:40Speaker 1: in your head is usually a trap. So I teach
- 50:42Speaker 1: six magic words. They started with a teeth. Very pal,
- 50:45Speaker 1: take time to think things through. It's this true, It's
- 50:49Speaker 1: just honest. Is this the best move I can make?
- 50:52Speaker 1: Make every move your best move? Now, when you say
- 50:56Speaker 1: you in l A training, tell me how did that
- 50:58Speaker 1: come about? And what is actually is the training? Tell
- 51:01Speaker 1: us how it came about? You got your tell and
- 51:04Speaker 1: what is the training that you're doing well. I'm every
- 51:08Speaker 1: time I speak, I get people that I spoke for
- 51:10Speaker 1: the Chamber of Commerce, uh, the California Chamber of Commerce,
- 51:14Speaker 1: and I did a lunching there and then for one
- 51:16Speaker 1: of the people there or whatever, and then a lot
- 51:18Speaker 1: of people came up one of my business cars. So
- 51:20Speaker 1: it just just snowballs into that and I get speaking
- 51:24Speaker 1: opportunity to next thing, you know, Disney called me. Then
- 51:26Speaker 1: the next thing you know, uh, Jane found a call me.
- 51:30Speaker 1: The next thing you know, type of Perry calling. Then
- 51:32Speaker 1: the next thing you know, uh did call I mean
- 51:34Speaker 1: just people call me because oh you just gonna throw
- 51:38Speaker 1: he stopped and let stop stop or stop You're just
- 51:40Speaker 1: gonna throw our Jane found the name like that's regular hump.
- 51:44Speaker 1: You should gonna throw our Tyler Perry name like that's regular. Huh.
- 51:47Speaker 1: He just had the number one movie at the box
- 51:49Speaker 1: always Bootoo. Now you ain't gonna do me like that.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Mr Huts. You're gonna call my show and act like
- 51:56Speaker 1: these just regular funds? Did you throw it out? Like
- 51:58Speaker 1: my cousin next door just up and gas my car.
- 52:01Speaker 1: That means you haven't. I mean that's different. There are
- 52:05Speaker 1: people who feel that you make an impactful difference in
- 52:08Speaker 1: people's lives. Man, And that's why I owe a lot
- 52:12Speaker 1: of that to you, my brother. You kind of open
- 52:14Speaker 1: a lot of door you myself. Now you you you
- 52:17Speaker 1: bring it, You bring a lot of the things. You know.
- 52:19Speaker 1: You said something I'll never forget you said. You know
- 52:21Speaker 1: what you people pay you to use your mind, and
- 52:24Speaker 1: you use your mind to starve problems. And I honor
- 52:27Speaker 1: you for saying that because that's basically what I'm about
- 52:30Speaker 1: teaching young people to get your head in the game.
- 52:32Speaker 1: The only thing that can take you to your goals
- 52:35Speaker 1: your head. And that's absolutely true. And that's why. You know.
- 52:39Speaker 1: The thing I like about our conversations is that you
- 52:43Speaker 1: know you are. You are a motivator, and you're a
- 52:45Speaker 1: person that stays in front of people. Always tell people
- 52:48Speaker 1: to be successful or to make your competition aware who
- 52:52Speaker 1: you are. I always tell people say it's a it's
- 52:55Speaker 1: a driving technique of stand in front of somebody's bumper.
- 52:58Speaker 1: See if your car is in on the bumper of
- 53:01Speaker 1: your competitor, that means you're in front of them and
- 53:03Speaker 1: they got to figure out how to get around you.
- 53:06Speaker 1: So your coold goal the motivation is to stay in
- 53:08Speaker 1: front of them. And so that's what you've done, you know,
- 53:11Speaker 1: whether whether inviting you out to the Steve Harvey camp
- 53:14Speaker 1: or seeing you in New York and you said, Rashan,
- 53:17Speaker 1: you're always telling me, Rashan, I'm doing to this, Rashan,
- 53:20Speaker 1: I can do this for you. You're always pitching, pitching
- 53:23Speaker 1: positive angles because in the end, you're you're teaching. You're
- 53:27Speaker 1: teaching things to us that we would ignore if you
- 53:31Speaker 1: didn't pitch your tours. You know, you know what I'm saying,
- 53:33Speaker 1: because because you know, chess is a game that few
- 53:37Speaker 1: people recognize outside of it being a board game, and
- 53:40Speaker 1: you're telling us, Rashawn, stop the madness. Chess is a
- 53:44Speaker 1: game of life. Board playing on the board is just
- 53:48Speaker 1: one of the techniques. But if you take those same
- 53:50Speaker 1: principles and apply to your small business, if you take
- 53:53Speaker 1: the same principle and apply to your if you're a
- 53:55Speaker 1: student in college, if you take those same principles and
- 53:58Speaker 1: apply in your relationship, it all works correct exactly, and
- 54:04Speaker 1: you know that you have everything you need to win.
- 54:08Speaker 1: You know, don't play the blame game, play the win
- 54:11Speaker 1: you have. You know you can do this. You can
- 54:13Speaker 1: do it here and you can do it now. Surround
- 54:15Speaker 1: your stuff around people who can elevate your game. If
- 54:18Speaker 1: you don't know how to play chair, just hang with me.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Come to my free workshop I'm doing on December twin
- 54:23Speaker 1: the first. It's gonna be free food, free training, free everything.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Come and learn from me. I'm gonna draw back the
- 54:30Speaker 1: curtain and I'm gonna show you how to be one
- 54:32Speaker 1: of the top Russian grand masters in the world. I'm
- 54:36Speaker 1: gonna show you how I did that. I'm gonna pull
- 54:39Speaker 1: back to curtain. Check me, I'm check check me. Hold up, now,
- 54:42Speaker 1: you said the word free. You said December twenty first,
- 54:45Speaker 1: right right, Free food, free training, free everything, free parking,
- 54:50Speaker 1: everything's free. Gonna be at is gonna be at the
- 54:54Speaker 1: Stone Mountain Events Center, uh uh and uh seventeen fifty
- 55:00Speaker 1: Stone Stone Chris Drive. But it's gonna be on my website,
- 55:03Speaker 1: on my Facebook page I have in Atlanta, Georgia. That's
- 55:06Speaker 1: the key. It's in Atlanta, is actually Stone mount and
- 55:09Speaker 1: Stone Ridge Event Center. It's gonna be from seven pm
- 55:13Speaker 1: to nine thirty at night. It's gonna be Thursday night
- 55:18Speaker 1: Life Skill Chip now through Stone Mountain is right, it's
- 55:26Speaker 1: really Atlanta, Georgia. So he wants to ride on that
- 55:28Speaker 1: Stone Mountain. See, I'm a promoter. See that's what I do.
- 55:31Speaker 1: See he's brilliant at this chest and changing your life.
- 55:35Speaker 1: I'm brilliant and telling you how to get there. Oh
- 55:38Speaker 1: I told him at nor a Stone Mountain. Don't be
- 55:41Speaker 1: arguing with me Atlanta, Georgia. And see if you if
- 55:44Speaker 1: you listen to my show in Birmingham, making a Columbia,
- 55:48Speaker 1: South Carolina or Charlotte, you may not know what Stone Mountain,
- 55:52Speaker 1: Georgia at, but you definitely know where Atlanta, George is at.
- 55:56Speaker 1: And now tell us about your website. The name your
- 56:00Speaker 1: website so we can go there and get some information there.
- 56:03Speaker 1: You gonna be someone dot org. It's a website I
- 56:06Speaker 1: came up with it ain't be someone because Aprilham Leak
- 56:08Speaker 1: and his mother. Her last words on the planet before
- 56:11Speaker 1: she died, the April Ham was be someone. And even
- 56:13Speaker 1: though Aprilham had failed eight times from the public office,
- 56:16Speaker 1: he took those two words be someone and became sixteen
- 56:19Speaker 1: president and United Space. All I'm doing now is empowering
- 56:22Speaker 1: our young people to be someone. Be all God created
- 56:26Speaker 1: you to be and never settled for less than you
- 56:29Speaker 1: can be. Wow. So you used to use a quick
- 56:33Speaker 1: example of failure overcoming failure, And that's really what it's about. Really,
- 56:39Speaker 1: I know that when I go through my life, when
- 56:41Speaker 1: I go through life, I always tell my daughter, look,
- 56:44Speaker 1: I have failed in life. I would remind her I
- 56:47Speaker 1: I If you go through my college transcript, you might
- 56:49Speaker 1: see my name on different plaques around the University of
- 56:52Speaker 1: Houston and all that stuff. You might see my name
- 56:55Speaker 1: on scholarship programs and and being honored. I have an
- 56:59Speaker 1: ELF on my transcript at the University of Houston and physics,
- 57:04Speaker 1: and that's important to let people know that there is failure,
- 57:08Speaker 1: but failure doesn't need It's not the way to stop you.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Will not stop you if you unless you give you power.
- 57:14Speaker 1: And that's what you're just saying all the time. Every
- 57:16Speaker 1: time I talk to you, check me. Every time I
- 57:20Speaker 1: talk to you, you always talking about moving forward, moving forward,
- 57:24Speaker 1: taking the next step up the stairways, you know, not
- 57:28Speaker 1: ever stopping. But people stop themselves all the time. And
- 57:31Speaker 1: it makes me mad. Exactly if I would say, a
- 57:34Speaker 1: good man will fall down seven times, get back up
- 57:36Speaker 1: eight So make it okay to fail There's no such
- 57:40Speaker 1: thing as failures, only information, and every master was one
- 57:43Speaker 1: of disaster. Failure makes you better. I went to the
- 57:47Speaker 1: World Open, and I'll never get to feel that your food.
- 57:49Speaker 1: To the World Open, and I lost my first game
- 57:53Speaker 1: I went there, I lost my second game, lost my third,
- 57:55Speaker 1: lost eighth straight game. And but that's okay. It makes
- 57:59Speaker 1: me better. And what are they to beat me? I played?
- 58:02Speaker 1: I went back and I said okay, and he beat me,
- 58:06Speaker 1: and I thought okay, and I beat him the next time.
- 58:08Speaker 1: I came back and I realized that fairier makes you better,
- 58:13Speaker 1: and you know, and you got to embrace Fairier. Every
- 58:18Speaker 1: disappointment is a blessing. Life. This game is fixed. This
- 58:22Speaker 1: game is fixed in your favorite, This life is fixed
- 58:24Speaker 1: in your favorite. Every disappointment is a blessing. Every disappointment
- 58:28Speaker 1: put you on the right path to where you need
- 58:30Speaker 1: to be. Oprah Winfrey beat out Um. Oprah Winfrey was beating.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sorry, her name is Um. What's the
- 58:40Speaker 1: channel to Monica Pearson? Monica Pearson beat out Jane Pauley
- 58:44Speaker 1: and Oprah Winfrey to get the channel to spot for
- 58:48Speaker 1: the job in Tama two. But that's just she just
- 58:50Speaker 1: got beat there. It made her better, It made okay,
- 58:53Speaker 1: I lost that. I had to get that, I had
- 58:55Speaker 1: to get better and go back. So but but Monica Parison,
- 58:58Speaker 1: I love her and I was on her show. She
- 59:00Speaker 1: beat out Jane Pauli and Oprah Wortha. So everybody's gonna
- 59:03Speaker 1: fail embrace failure. Failure is your friends. Well, I would
- 59:08Speaker 1: tell you this. Monica Pearson is uh the very popular
- 59:11Speaker 1: anchorwoman in Atlanta, Georgia. See, I gotta talk to checkmate
- 59:15Speaker 1: because he'd be talking like we just broadcasting in Atlanta.
- 59:17Speaker 1: On the here he acts like we ain't own National
- 59:20Speaker 1: or nothing like that. So I gotta gotta clear up
- 59:23Speaker 1: a lot of his conversation. Let everybody you know, you know,
- 59:27Speaker 1: Challenge To Texas NBC, child Too in New York City
- 59:34Speaker 1: is CBS, so you need to know what's going on
- 59:37Speaker 1: in challen To in Atlanta, Georgia is CBS. So people
- 59:40Speaker 1: just don't know you should be throwing out that information.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I mean, ABC is in Atlanta, Georgia. So when you
- 59:45Speaker 1: say all these success stories, and I'm gonna just tell
- 59:48Speaker 1: people this, failure is the best motivation in the world.
- 59:52Speaker 1: But what you cannot do with failure is accepted as
- 59:55Speaker 1: a final choice, your final option, and whenever I talk
- 59:59Speaker 1: to you, and this is about businesses that open wrong.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: They fail because they don't do what they're supposed to.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: They don't plan like you're talking about in the game.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: And I'm just letting you guys know that when I
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: bring guests like or and on my show, you might go,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: you're talking about chess. They've got nothing to do with me.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: It does. It's about planning. It's about seeing the thoughts out,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: not making the first move, thinking through the thought process,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: understanding that these patterns for success have to be worked out,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: they have to be detailed. If you fail, don't walk
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: away thinking it's the end of the world. That is
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: what this interview is about. It's about recognizing patterns of recognition. Amy,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I'm trying Or, I'm trying to get them there, man,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I'm trying to get them. I'm using all kinds of
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: techniques getting all the time because of the pattern. Here's
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: the main pattern to put money in anybody. If you're
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: listening to this, you'll make a million dollars. The pattern
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: that you do to put money in your thone it
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: comes from the phone, is by the average right man
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: it says we're to be in all maybe maybe one
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: than that. It says the average white being. It said,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: the sooner you give, the sooner you get the half
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: uh love of your Oh. The sooner you give as
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: sooner you get to have. Just be a giver. You
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: cannot get in trouble forgiving. You only can get a
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: get in trouble for taking. So just be a giver.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: And the sooner you give, the sooner you get to have. Well,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I tell you that's what money making conversations all about.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Because I'm here to guild man. And before we go,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: you're being honored on November eight correct, Yeah, being honored
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: on November eighteen, but now in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: at the highest um, at the highest regency and being
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: honor that. But I got some better news than that
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: in two eight Michelle Obama gonna be there, So that's
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: maybe even better. But it's all good either way, my man.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I want to thank you as always, you're regular on
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: my show, you know that now, and I want to
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: thank you for you say nice things about me and all.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: But more important, I want to thank you for being
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a giver because you understand the principles of success are
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: tied to how much you give, not how much you take.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Correct exactly, be a service, sir people. Jesus said, Uh,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: if you want to be great, you gotta be a giver,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: and the greatest among you should be the servants of
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: them all. So, sir people, give first, give and advance
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: and walk away. Because God is love and love me
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: to give what I expecting anything in return. Before we go,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: give out that website one more time. W w w
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: B someone dot org. I'm gonna be getting an award
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: on November eight, teens is a high regency. Um, I
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: can't google me and to come up, but God is good.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: And then also December twenty one, I'm gonna be doing
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: a free workshop, free food, free parking, free training, getting
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: a game like this chest and not checkers. My cat
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: can play checkers, so we gotta change the game. I
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: am a game changer. Remember, brother, I'll talk to you soon,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: my friend. We'll be right back with more money making conversations. Hi,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: just from Sean McDonald. Back with money making conversations before
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: we get to a Big six barbecue. And my nephew,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: that's my nephew. I'm gonna be just nepotism. Now I'm
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: take care of my family. I want to talk to
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: my man Zante. You're calling that about those prayer of
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: prayer of you and them home comic tickets my home
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: coming Now come on, now what are the colors? The
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: colors of school colors? A prayer off you and them
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: royal purple and gold. I'll make as five baby qute
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: to the day I die. Come on, now, come on.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: That's all right, brother, But you got the home coming tickets.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: That's all you need to know. Brother. Thank you for
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: calling my friend and they got all the information already. Correct. Well,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: you're in Georgia's games if we can appreciate you calling
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: it on money making conversation and my man keep winning. Okay,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: all day, thank you. Okay, let's go on to my
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: next interview on money making conversation. My next guest is
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the United States Army veteran and then own a Big
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: six barbecue. He's my net. You please work on the
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: money making conversation. Look, John Domino Stewart wing On, Hey,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: my man, you know we just used at the house yesterday.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: We were talking about business plans, so you know we'd
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: be in the mix on a regular basis about this business.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: So before we get started. You know, you have a
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: very successful business called big says Bob Q. How was
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: it affected by Hurricane Harvey? Um? We was. We was
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: uh hurt tremendously. Um. Actually, Uh, the whole trailer was
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: told out. Storm whipped back my roof and water just
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: came in through the roof and told off everything, all
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: my equipment, all my supply. So I pretty much lost
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: my whole trailer. Now what did you do smart here
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: in this whole process? You know, what were smart things
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: that you did to help you to recover? First of all, um,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: I would like you know, thanks to God, without him
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: learning this would be possible. Um, well to you as
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: being my mentor. I gave you a call first, you know,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: and uh, because I didn't know what to turn about.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: It took me nearly two weeks to realize that A,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: you know what you're in a situation. You know you've
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: been a victim of this disaster as well. So I
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: reached out to you. But you gave me some great
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: ideas and points and uh I wanted to head and
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: apply for the SBA loan, right, but you did something
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: smart before that. You had insurance. Oh yes, most definitely
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I had insurance. Anybody, if you're going into a business,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: you want to protect your assets, you know, And that's
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: one thing that I wanted to do is to take
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: my access assets. Had insurance, which uh I was covering
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: on that. So I'm just at the waiting period right now.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Uh you know how my case is going to resolve
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: at the end. But also but you're not waiting. That's
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: why you also apply for the SBA Disaster loan. Correct,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: yesdir I did. I thought for that because I didn't
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: know this this this process is gonna take this long.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Uh just took some lester steps. Uh just just think
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: taste just to give my process lowing, because it's not
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: I'll just be sitting here waiting and nothing never happened. Yeah,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: So it means being proactive is the key in this conversation. Correct,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: almost definitely. You have to. You can't just stop and
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: just give up. You got to keep on pushing, uh
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: because you have people out there that's uh looking forward
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: to who wash your products, So you've got to keep
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: on supplying that. Well, let's talk about that product man
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: that Bobby q O can ever tell you somebody he
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: though I love the real tips. I love the brisket
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: I love, but I love the link sauces. I love
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: the peach cobbler. I love the potato salad. I love
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: the bike bees with the meat in it, the big
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Bee with the meeting something. You know, I'm saying all
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: these things because he brought none of that by my
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: house yesterday. So when he walked in, the dough I
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: was he brought. He brought macro on the cheese, he
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: brought the jams, and he brought heat fried turkey. Now
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: all that was good, but he didn't bring none of
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: the stuff. But I mentioned so I was looking at
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: him across the table, just stand at him. Oh this
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: is good, ain't there? Yeah, it's good, but I show
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: So next time he comes by my house, and he
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: telled me he gonna bring some food, I'm gonna have
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: to ask him what he gonna bring, because what he
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: ain't gonna do and come by my house and frustrate
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: me with alternative good food. I want the food that
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: I was like, manna get that potato salad. I'm gonna
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: get them big bees. I'm gonna get that white bread.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: He didn't bring the white bread. Evening the white brad.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I was jocoling looking at him, but you know, the
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: beautiful wife was there. My wife was there, so I sustained.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: His business partner, Cmo was there, so I sustained myself
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: and kept calm. But I'm gonna tell you something. You
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: come by my house one more time and you don't
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: have big beans with the little meat in it. And
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: then that potato salad that I don't know how you
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: make it, but you make it. And that peach cobbler
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: and you know, with the with the crust, and then
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: when you dig in there you get some peaches and
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: you got the syrup around it, and you got the
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: crust on top of it. Man, and the real tips
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: that when you crushed down on it, you feel this
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: a little bone. But you crushed that grizzle in and
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: ware and you just gonna make it happen. And the
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: ribs and that link. And then boy, your wife and
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: told you how to do that chicken. Now your wife
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: had told you I'll do that chicken. Now, I'm just
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: telling y'all, folks, I'm a dreamland. But he can't bring
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: nothing about my house yesterday. He can bring nothing. But
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: so let's talk about these defried turkeys that you got
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: coming out for the month of nove But tell us
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: about that because that's awesome because I ate some of
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: it yesterday. Well, I mean, yes, uh, you got right
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: now you can pre order, uh, go to website, to

- 1:09:26Speaker 1: the holidays. We know that's coming up, and we just
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: know a lot of people are busy, too busy to
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: do things, and we want to bring that traditional wonderful

- 1:09:44Speaker 1: one three five three zero to six eight. That's seven
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: one three five three zero eight to six eight. Then
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: inquiry about you know, deep fried turkey. You know, don't
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: you go out there outside your house drop that turkey

- 1:10:04Speaker 1: house or your scald the dog or you or they
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: fall on your feet and then you cripple for the
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: rest of your life because you're out there trying to
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: defied turkey. I've seen it all happen. Just go to
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: the website type in deep fried turkey disasters and it's
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: like a show of ignorance. And so this man is

- 1:10:38Speaker 1: and the other and then set it outside. It's kind
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: of on some dirt. So really, if that, if that,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: if that, if that, if they wait hits a little
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: sauce spot, they're gonna start leaning, so they ain't gonna
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: notice the lean. Or if they knows the lean, it's
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: all good. It's all good until somebody walked by there bumpet,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: then the turkey and the ground. You got dirt on
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: the turkey. But what they're gonna do. They're gonna get

- 1:15:43Speaker 1: what these two people do. And they are power couple.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: When I say power couple, New York Times labeled them
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: as the most successful literary couple in America, and they're
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: doing everything to maintain that type. Please welcome to money
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: making conversation Ashley and Jaquavers col Hey, how you doing?
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: My brother to be off? First of all, thank you,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: because you know I read the book until I read
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: the book, The Cartail seven Round Table of the Bosses.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: And the thing about it is that, you know, if
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: you want to quiz me, you know you can quiz me.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: You know you don't know about C. J. Mole. You
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: know we can't go in details, but I know, Breeze,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: you tell him. I tell what they've been when them
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: in jail. I can tell you about the Dominican Republic.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: I'm just throwing out some stuff to let them know.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I know, you know what I'm saying. You know, you
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: wanna talk about that drug, I wanna talk about my
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: man goes Hey, don't don't don't don't go that with me.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Let y'all know, I did my homework and the and
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: the beauty of the book I'm gonna tell you about
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: because uh I got the book, you know, on Saturday,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: and I read it all day Sunday and it was
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: a good read. It was a good read. And I
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: want to before we even get into detail about the book,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: I'll just read this this statement that I pulled offline
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: about the book. The sag of Love, Loyalty, and Crime
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: continues in the next explosive book in the Cartel series,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: from the minds of New York Times bestselling authors Ashley
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: and to Quaalus. After the Tragic and Blooded into the
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Cartel's reign, Carter is forced into isolation to evade to law.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: With his wife facing federal charges and his dear brother
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: six ft under, Carter has never been more alone, his
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: empire at his feet, and there's no idea how to
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: rebuild his kingdom. The only thing that is certain is
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: that he has to stay out of the way and
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: off the radar of the fads until he can, Until
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: he can figure out how to get his lady out
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: of prison. Her freedom is guaranteed. Provided car to help
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: create and distribute a drug that would take the streets
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: by storm. Rubbing elbows with the most notorious, ruthless leaders
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: of the underworld will get him what he wants, but
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: he can win it. But he doesn't know whether he
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: can win the game of murder or money. That's what
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: this book about. See see see I'm gonna teach you
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: The reason I read that because I'm a fan of
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: knockles have Have y'all seen that? Seriously? Yeah? Yeah, okay,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: come on now see see see. So you know when
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: I read this book May, I was going, man, y'all, yeah,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: y'all been okay, first of all, I'm a I'm a
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: look site. Let me calm down, let's start. Let's let's
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: start from again. In Flip, Michigan. You know you fifteen?
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: You sixteen? Was the police stop you? Okay? Harassing you? Now? Astley,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: you noticed this, You see all this going down? The
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: police accused you of dealing in drugs? Correct Quavers? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: they was on me. I was actually surfing the undercover
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: agent for about two weeks. So um yeah, it was
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: the open play for the underplay. They were setting me
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: up now now but it was all wrong. But so
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: after they let you go, Ashley, you called him correct, Yeah,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: he talked his package in my bushes and I thought,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: so I went and got it out of the bushes
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: before the police searched them, and then I called him.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: We had a mutual friend, right right, right, It's just
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: like a book. We actually used this, I know, you know,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I know all that get to my interview. I got
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: my research on both of y'all. I'm not gonna come
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: on this show and act like I don't know who
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I'm talking to. Man, we appreciated my brother. But listen, Maye,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: just it started the union that would last. Well. We
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: we've been together with sixteen years. Man, Um, I was
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: running from the cops, man, and she literally saved my life. Man.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: She you know, she threw I'm sorry when I threw
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: what I had in the bushes. Man, she she picked
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: it up and she put it up for me for later.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: So you know, we're from from Michigan, Rashaan Man, So
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: that means, you know, loyalty has to be earned. But
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I don't love this girl because within the first day
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: I met her, she showed me loyalty and that's something
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: that I wasn't used to. You know that that kind
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: of started the friendship and that friendship maturity into a relationship,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: and then later that relationship Um turned into a partnership.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Man together, you know, we were families. You know. It's interesting,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: you know that because you know, you guys from Flip Michigan,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: that's basically an inner city, and they come out of
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: that with with with a with a strong literary sense,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: you know, because I. You know, I tell people like,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: you know, when I came out of high school, you know,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: I was an honor student, and I took all honors classes,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: but I didn't really care about English. And I remember
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: when I went to college, I had to take remedial
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: English to qualify because I didn't care. I didn't care.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: I didn't know the subject her now and I didn't
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: know the sequence of what would make a sentence and
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: a preposition and all those things because I didn't realize
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: the importance of it. And that's why, that's why it's
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: important when I hear you guys in along the way.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: In in middle school, english and literacy was important because,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: like I said, when I was in middle school, I read,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: you know, I read I read uh uh Lord of
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: the Rings when I was in middle school, and that
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: book was like nine hundred pages. And so I I
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: say that to say that you guys play an important role.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: And that's one of the reasons I brought you on
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: the show and I hopefully become friends and just constantly
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: communicated on a regular basis, because it's important that reading
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: really is fundamental, man, absolutely absolutely, and telling stories that
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: you guys are telling. That's why I want to let
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: everybody know that, yeah, I'm a sitcom writer. You guys
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: are true storytellers. And that's really important because when I
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: was reading the book from the opening when they're on
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: the private jet and you know, I'm not gonna tell
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: a story because we were trying to sell books. We're
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: not trying to give away the book, you know, you know,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: but all those things I'm just telling you guys, when
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: you read their books and they got they got an
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: interesting style because they do transitional time frames. You know,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: you've been this time period, and then they're a key
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: back to to tell you the journey how that moment
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: came up to this point and and it's really interesting.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: How did you guys develop your writing style? Um? Well,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: I firmly believe that being a writer, you can't be
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: a writer without being a reader first. So I first
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: state was actually out of Borders about a Borders book stores. Right,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: that's a prerecordisite. You have to fall in love with
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: storytelling in general, and through doing that, we both really
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: love to read as young kids. So through doing that,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: we wanted to write stories that people could relate to,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: that people could find in just okay, when we were
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: young there were no stories or characters that looked like us,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: that sounded like us, or that we're from the areas
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: that we wanted to change that landscape in literature. So
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: now we're writing, we're forty books in. We've contributed space
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: on the shelves by African American people for African American people.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: Right right, I was reading this article. I've took some
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: be I thought there's some very important articles. There's just
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: New York Times magazine article written in urban fiction or
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: streetlet has been snubbed by the publishing industry and scorned
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: by the black intellectuals. Yet these authors may just be
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: the most successful literary couple in America. So when I
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: write that, when I say that because I know as
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: a writer, as an entertainer, people can make judgment on
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: people and don't even know the the end goal and
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: end goal is about writing creative concepts and storylines that
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: are relatable. Isn't that correct? Yeah? Absolutely? Man? See is
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: I love to use that analogy like the roles that
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: grows from concrete. When a person or a black intellectual
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: looks at this roles and they see all the torn
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: pedals and the thorns, they look at it as that
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: like this ugly rose, but they do not take into
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: the acount of tenacity of that role to grow through
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: that concrete. And it's a reason why it has those
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: broken pedals and thorns. And that's how we look at
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: our style of writing. They look at it like it's
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: something that's but needs a literature, but it's not. It's
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: where we came from. We're products of our environment and
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: we made it beautiful. Like at first they talked about it,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: but then they began to like give us accolaides and
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: honor what we was doing. That was the plan from
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: the beginning. Man, there you go. We kept on putting
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: out quality product um and kept on being consistent and
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: those frowns begin to turn into collapse. And um, that's
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: where we're at now. Man. We're thirty two years old. Man,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: and wow, and we made history. Man, We're gonna keep
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: on home making it. You know, I'm gonna tell you something.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: I don't know who the black intellectual else, but I
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: am a black intellectual. If there's a club out there,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: every shot McDonald's in that club. Okay, you know I
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: got in me sitting on the shell, I got I
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: got image Awards sitting on my shell. I just sold
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: four million books for Harpercollus. I didn't put two blockbuster
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: movies in the theater. I'm gonna tell you'll, some young people,
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: don't ever let nobody tell you who you are. Don't
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: ever let nobody tell you what you're exposed to do
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: if they don't understand your journey, understand the shoes that
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: you walk in. I'm telling you, I picked that book up.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: I didn't put it down. I went and got me
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: a couple of sandwiches, and I would eat my sandwiches
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: and and I put it down. And my wife said,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: you don't watch the football game. I didn't watch no
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: football game on Sunday because because I'm gonna just tell
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: you something, I enjoyed the storytelling. I enjoyed the and
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep telling everybody because now I gotta go
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: back and read the series now because it's interesting in
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: my life. Because you know, like I told you, in
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: middle school, I read, read, read, and then when I
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: got out of the middle school, I was just running
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: and racing and just dealing with stuff. But man, y'all,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: you guys have brought me back into the phone with
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: this book. Man, we love it. Man. That that means
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: so much. We really appreciate you taking up the time
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: and really just understanding our writing and reading it. Man.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: That means the world. Say I would just tell you something,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: you know, I want people to understand this. We're gonna
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: be right back because it's going another break with the
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: with the best New York Times is said the most
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: accomplished and successful literary writing couple in America. Be right
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: back with more money making conversation. Don't y'all go nowhere.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: We're back with more money making conversations on the phone.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: New York Times and label them as the most successful
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: literary couple in America. And they're doing everything and a
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: hold up that matter on the phone with Astling and
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: Joe Cravers Cola, you guys back, Yeah, I want to
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: talk about this right quick. It was read just about
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: this deal you guys have. You have a deal your
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: side with Warner Brothers Studio at NBC Universe to develop
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: television projects. And you also agreed to an audio exclusive
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: deal with Audible, a company owned by Amazon dot Com,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: a deal that's the first of his kind with fiction writers. Okay,
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: I got now talk to me about that. Uh, well
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: you quite this, maw. We're forty books in so we're
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: just looking for new ways to tell stories. It was
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: a UM expected progression for us to move into television
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: and films. Absolutely when l A, we just found a
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: world of opportunities that we're just creatives out there that
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: we're willing to partner with us to our stories to
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: the screen. Um. We were very lucky to link up
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: with Warner Brothers and Universal Cable Productions to create two
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: television shows. So we're bringing our content to the siver
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: screen where we're able to tell the types of stories
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: that we want to tell with people that look like us.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: So we're very very fortunate to become in as executive producers,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: not as UM staff writers. In the room, we're controlling
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: the type of shows that we're shaping. There you go
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: right there. That's all I wanted to hear the word
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: control because I'm gonna tell you something. People out there,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: you know, I get frustrated when super talented people see
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: you guys like you see you throw that number out
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: there forty like it was nothing. You really need to
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: stop talking to me, Ashley. You we cain't talk no more.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: If we fought the books in in, you know, and
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: we went to Hollywood and thought we'd find some new
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: avenues to express our vision. But you said control because
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: it's important because people see things a certain way, and
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: because they're writers, they don't have the life experience. And
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: if if you hold onto anything, hold onto your name
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: and your brand. Because I'm gonna tell you something I've
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: been an executively do so I've been a writer, I
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: should always tell us to Steve Harvey. As a Steve,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: I can get a job the next day. If your
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: show get counsel, if your show get else, your name
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: is tarnished. So always know this is that your brand.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: It's what got you there. And if you don't respect
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: it and control it. And I don't care what names
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: they call you, I don't they kill you, y'all jerks,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: y'all asses or whatever. You control your image, man, because
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: they will get a job someplace else and they don't
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: even know you. I'm gonna just tell you. The writers
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: who come on the show, they don't know you. They
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: may have read a half a book, read a little
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: clip from a New York Times article, went in there, pitched,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: and then on your show based on some other work.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: They did on other dramas. So your brand control is important.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Hit me on that, absolutely, that's excellent advice. And learn
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: how to direct too. Okay, that way you can knock
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: that direct out of that chair and you start directing
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: and controlling your whole bread. Because you guys have something special.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: And the reason I say that because when I read,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: uh the Cartel seven, I just saw the whole series.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: You know you guys right, so good man, It's like
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: I just I just saw. I just felt like every
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: chapter was another episode you feel me, and so it
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: was like every episode it was like because I'm a
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: big fan of you know, I'm gonna just tell you
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: this when Power came out, and I'm not trying to
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: compare what you do the Power, but that it's that
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: gritty genre, you know what I'm saying where a show
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: like that wasn't supposed to make it on TV because
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: she was like that in the past, ain't made it
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: on TV. And I'll be perfectly honest, when they told
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: me fifty six was tied to it, I turned my friend, go,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: this ain't gonna make it. This ain't I ain't gonna
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: watch this crap. I am the biggest Power fan you
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: can find because in the end, this is why I
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: know you guys can be successful with this, because your
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: series is about family. Your series is really about parody
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: and that emotion. If you look at Narckles, the series,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: that's just about family. If you look Get, if you
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: look at the series with Power, that's really about two
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: parents who are making mistakes, really trying to take care
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: of their family. Just happen to be drug dealers, just
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: have to be drug dealers. There ain't no different to
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: somebody that IBM. Ain't nobody different somebody Amazon dot com.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: It's just that their lifestyle little bit interest because they
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: kill people, they beat up people, rough them up. That's
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: all y'all do. But that's that's the that's the enlightening part.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: That's why I know you own to something special. The
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: thing I think is even bigger opportunity for you guys
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: is that audio booking, because man, that digital platform, y'all
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: will own a team. And I'm not just talking just
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: to the urban culture. Y'all will own it with everybody
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: because the read if you get I'm just so excited
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: for y'all man, because I read your book and I
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: feel honored man, that I got to read something that
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: excited me as a as a guy in the creative space.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: You guys got it going on. Man, you guys really
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: got it going on. And if nobody has read your book,
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: please read your book because it is a joy, It
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: is a journey, it is a is a is a
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: what was it? A force of nature? Literary nature that
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: y'all putting out there on a regular basis. Man, y'all
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: doing it. Man, y'all doing it. Thank you, thank you,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: thank you. Man. We really appreciate it. Man, Because you know,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: I'm a fan of audio books. I don't know how
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: they're gonna do these books. Uh, they're just gonna read
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: the books. How they're gonna do the audio books, how
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: they're gonna do well. When um Audible approached us for
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: this new and innovative way to tell stories, they wanted
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: to be um different from audio books. Wanted to from
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: like a theatrical field. There you go, now you go,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Now you go, boy, boy, stop talking to me, Stop
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: talking to me. To stop talking to me. Brother, that's
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: how you're do it. You hear the door open up,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: You hear a gun fire pile, you hear the slap pile.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: How when they ain't crashed. You hear the crash boom
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: when they step out to the south. You're the running
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: water cut off. That's right, that's right, brother, brother, put
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: that deal together for us, man, And you know we're
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna make a movie for your ears, man, man,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: because see I grew up. Man. I'm gonna tell you something, man,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: when I put together to Steve Harvey Radio franchise, I'm
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: a fan of of of old school radio, you know,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: back in the day when you have a radio and
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: everybody will sit around the radio and they hear them
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: old stories, hit a symbol and all that stuff. That's
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: the radio that you guys are about to do for
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: the millennials. Absolutely, absolutely, and I can't wait to the
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: world here this man. I'm really about to just give them,
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: you know, just bring back the theater of the mind.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Hey man, Hey, brother, you understand what you're about to do.
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: I know you know because you already visionary both for y'all.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: Y'all been y'all been together our fifteen sixteen years old.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: God put you all together. She saw you made that
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: phone call. Y'all be together doing the right forty books here.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: But I'm telling you on this digital side. It could
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: be in Spanish, being Russian, being French, Japanese. Absolutely, I'm
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: telling you all of them got criminals in their lives. Absolutely,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: come on Spanish. I'll just tell y'all something. I'm just
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: happy I knew y'all wining. That's all because I know
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: next year this time I'm gonna say, can I get
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: them back on the show where they gotta check their scared?
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: They gotta check that scared because you know they big
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: na you know. Because I'll tell you something, man, I
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: please do me a favor when when you when you launch,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: when you launch, your your your climb, because I'm more
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: excited than the TV. I got the TV, but that
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: that digital front with the audio audio books, man, that's
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: a special special opportunity. I knew what the impact that
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: the audios had on the Steve Harvey books when we
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: when when we did the audio books, they went through
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: the roof. The sales went through the roof. Because people
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: want to drive around, they want to just listen. They
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: don't have time to be reading. But they took an
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: these long trips or they're on the airplane. I just
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: want to just sit around the house outside and listen
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: and y'all gonna do the books that I'm asking you
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: guys to do. And you already said, Rashane, you need
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: to shut up. We already got that in the words.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: You know, we're pitching up some ideas like we're willing
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: food food. We already there. Stop talking to us food,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: my man, my lady. I'm a fan. And anytime y'all
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: need Rashaan McDonald for any advice, y'all, just call me.

- 1:36:00Speaker 1: about and I will be there to give your advice
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: on ISA producers. People want to represent you, people who
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: got ideas for you. That's what I'm here for to
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: take my knowledge and help shape an opportunity of success
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: for you too. Okay, well, thank you, man. We truly
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: appreciate that. Man. We're gonna fold that up and put
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: it in our back cockey. Just just just don't sit
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: on it too long, you know. Just hey, man, thank
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: you all. Vote for calling myself. They're the best, y'all.
