In which our intrepid party, guided by the dark-skinned and sure-footed Ti-hi, makes a perilous night-time retreat along a narrow rock ledge beside a rushing river, ever watchful for pursuing savages whose silent approach keeps their nerves taut and ready. As dawn breaks in a strange, sultry gloom and a storm threatens overhead, they hastily fortify a stronghold upon a widened ledge, caught between the roar of the waterfall and the distant, mounting menace of their foes.
