- 0:00Acts Chapter 9 Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder
- 0:04against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
- 0:07and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus,
- 0:10so that if he found any belonging to the way, both men
- 0:12and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
- 0:15As he was travelling, it happened that he was approaching
- 0:17Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him,
- 0:21and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,
- 0:24Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?
- 0:27And he said, Who are you, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus, whom
- 0:30you are persecuting. But get up and enter the city,
- 0:33and it will be told you what you must do.
- 0:35The men who travelled with him stood speechless, hearing the
- 0:38voice, but seeing no one. Saul got up from the ground, and
- 0:41though his eyes were open, he could see nothing.
- 0:44And leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.
- 0:46And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor
- 0:49drink. Now there was a disciple at
- 0:51Damascus named Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a
- 0:54vision, Ananias. And he said, Here I am, Lord.
- 0:57And the Lord said to him, Get up and go to the street called
- 1:00straight, and inquire at the House of Judas for a man from
- 1:03Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
- 1:05And he had seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and
- 1:08lay his hands on him, so that he might regain his sight.
- 1:12But Ananias answered, Lord, I've heard from many about this man,
- 1:16how much harm he did to your Saints at Jerusalem, and here he
- 1:19has authority from the chief priest to bind all who call on
- 1:22your name. But the Lord said to him, Go,
- 1:25for he is a chosen instrument of mine to bear my name before the
- 1:28Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel, for I will show him
- 1:31how much he must suffer for my name's sake.
- 1:33So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his
- 1:36hands on him, said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who
- 1:39appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent
- 1:42me, so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the
- 1:45Holy Spirit. And immediately there fell from
- 1:47his eyes something like scales, and he regained his sight, and
- 1:50he got up and was baptized, and he took food and was
- 1:53strengthened. Now for several days he was with
- 1:56the disciples who were at Damascus, and immediately he
- 1:58began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogue, saying, He is the Son
- 2:01of God. All those hearing him continued
- 2:04to be amazed and were saying, Is this not he who in Jerusalem
- 2:07destroyed those who called on this name, and who had come here
- 2:10for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?
- 2:13But Saul kept increasing in strength and confounding the
- 2:15Jews who lived at Damascus by proving that this Jesus is the
- 2:19Christ. When many days had elapsed, the
- 2:21Jews plotted together to do away with him, but their plot became
- 2:24known to Saul. They were also watching the
- 2:26gates day and night, so that they might put him to death.
- 2:29But his disciples took him by night and let him down through
- 2:32an opening in the wall, lowering him in a large basket.
- 2:35When he came to Jerusalem he was trying to associate with the
- 2:38disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing
- 2:41that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took hold of him
- 2:44and brought him to the apostles, and described to them how he had
- 2:46seen the Lord on the road, and he had talked to him, and how at
- 2:50Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.
- 2:53And he was with them moving about freely in Jerusalem,
- 2:55speaking out boldly in the name of the Lord.
- 2:58And he was talking and arguing with the Hellenistic Jews, but
- 3:01they were attempting to put him to death.
- 3:02But when their brethren learned of it, they brought him down to
- 3:05Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.
- 3:08So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria
- 3:10enjoyed peace, being built up and going on in the fear of the
- 3:13Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
- 3:16It continued to increase. Now as Peter was travelling
- 3:19through all those regions, he came down also to the Saints who
- 3:21lived at Lyda. There he found a man named
- 3:24Aeneas who had been bedridden 8 years, for he was paralyzed.
- 3:28Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you, get up and
- 3:32make your bed. Immediately he got up and all
- 3:34who lived at Lyda and Sharon saw him and they turned to the Lord.
- 3:38Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha which
- 3:41translated in Greek is called Dorcas.
- 3:43This woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and charity,
- 3:46which she continually did, and it happened at that time that
- 3:49she fell sick and died. When they had washed her body,
- 3:52they laid it in an upper room. Since Lida was near Joppa, the
- 3:55disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to
- 3:58him, imploring. Do not delay in coming to us.
- 4:01So Peter arose and went with them.
- 4:03When he arrived they brought him into the upper room, and all the
- 4:05widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the tunics and
- 4:08garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them.
- 4:11But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and
- 4:14turning to the body he said, Tabitha arise.
- 4:17And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up,
- 4:20and he gave her his hand and raised her up.
- 4:22And calling the Saints and widows he presented her alive,
- 4:25became known all over Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
- 4:29And Peter stayed many days in Joppa with a Tanner called
- 4:32Simon.
