- 0:00This shit ain't nothing to me, man. This is Boxing
- 0:03Before Dark. On that pleasant note, Boxing Before
- 0:27Dark. Holy shit, it is a hot one here in Arizona.
- 0:33We're sitting at a balmy 95 or 35, as you might
- 0:39know it elsewhere. Shinada, how's Japan? It's
- 0:45good. It's good. I'm getting the last of my tourism
- 0:49in and making my final plans. Going to get a
- 0:52souvenir tattoo in July if I can make the timing
- 0:55work. And in June, I'm going up to northern Japan
- 0:58to see some rice fields that are planted to look
- 1:02like pictures. It's going to be excellent. So
- 1:07would you have to have a drone go up to get the
- 1:13full view? Possibly. I am assuming that a lot
- 1:19of them have a tall lookout point near them.
- 1:23I would think so, yeah. If they don't, I'm going
- 1:27to be very disappointed, to say the least. Because
- 1:30otherwise, you're just looking at rice patties.
- 1:33Yeah, yeah. The pictures look really cool. Plus,
- 1:38I haven't been to Aomori yet. Might as well.
- 1:42I was checking yesterday. And there's like 47
- 1:46prefectures in Japan, which is crazy. I've been
- 1:50to like 15 of them, but Canada only has 10 provinces.
- 1:54I was wondering how many prefectures there were.
- 1:5747 prefectures. That sounds not too dissimilar
- 2:00from US, of course. 47 to 50. Yeah, but the size
- 2:07of Japan is smaller. I was expecting like 20.
- 2:11Oh, yeah. I see what you mean. Okay. Yep. Understandable.
- 2:18Bye. Places like Iowa, where there's not a whole
- 2:26lot going on, they have like a hundred fucking
- 2:29counties. And it's not a very big place. Now
- 2:33I see you're putting it in fucking freedom terms.
- 2:39Yeah, like, I think the big difference here is
- 2:43I don't think the prefectures have much legal
- 2:46power. It's not like Canada and the US, so it
- 2:49doesn't matter how many there are. A nominal
- 2:52jurisdiction? Yeah, I think everything here is
- 2:56mostly federal. Or city. Like, I found out it's
- 3:02illegal to ring your bicycle bell in Tokyo if
- 3:05you're on the sidewalk and coming up behind someone.
- 3:07Why? I don't know. The bicycles here scare the
- 3:11shit out of me sometimes. Because I don't know
- 3:14they're coming and they don't make any noise.
- 3:17So you can't ring a bell. What if you get like
- 3:19a honker? Also illegal. You can't surprise pedestrians
- 3:26with noises. I'm trying to warn you that I'm
- 3:29coming up behind you. I'm not trying to scare
- 3:33you. It makes no sense to me. Like the whole
- 3:36point of the bell is so they don't crash into
- 3:38you. Yeah. So that you can hear that I'm coming
- 3:42and kind of move out of the way a little bit.
- 3:48Yeah. Well, you know who didn't move out of the
- 3:52way? Takeru. And he got Rod Tang just on his
- 3:59ass multiple times. That was just a one -sided
- 4:04beating. It was kind of sad, like, seeing a legend
- 4:08like Rotten get done like that. But it wasn't
- 4:12sad because it's Takeru in his last fight ever.
- 4:15He had announced win or lose, he's retiring.
- 4:18Well, he made the most of his last fight, for
- 4:21sure. And he was having fun. Did you see the
- 4:24huge smile on his face throughout the whole fight?
- 4:27He was doing, like, not... over the top taunting
- 4:31but he would like kind of like put his hands
- 4:33out or like yeah bump his chest like let's like
- 4:38let's fucking do this yeah i'm beating you at
- 4:41your own game because he ate a couple big shots
- 4:46too like it was just a really fun fight everyone
- 4:49should go watch it boxing fans will enjoy that
- 4:53one there there's no grappling At most, if you
- 4:58do clinch, you have to actively continue hitting
- 5:02each other or else you're going to get broken
- 5:04up. But I don't think there was very many clinches
- 5:07in this one. No, there weren't. It was mostly
- 5:10distant strikes of Takaru just teeing off on
- 5:13Rod Tang's face. The Iron Man got hammered. Rusty.
- 5:21Yeah, he rusted. What's the deal? Like, he had
- 5:25that... That spat with one FC where he was not
- 5:31going to be renewing his contract with them.
- 5:34Well, this fight, he was actually a free agent.
- 5:37They dropped him before the fight. Oh, really?
- 5:39I thought they were dropping him after. No, no.
- 5:43That was part of the negotiations when they sued
- 5:45each other. Rod Tang was a free agent in this
- 5:48fight. and so he won't be working with one anymore,
- 5:54but he's free to take fights with whoever he
- 5:56wants. But after that, I don't know who wants
- 5:59him. It was very clear that he did not take this
- 6:03fight very seriously, which is unfortunate. He
- 6:06knocked out Takeru in the first round, in the
- 6:09first fight, and I think he thought he could
- 6:11just come do it again without the proper preparations.
- 6:17I made it look easy the first time, so it'll
- 6:20be easy the second time. Yeah, Takeru's even
- 6:23older now. Because that was a couple years ago
- 6:26now. So are you, bitch! Yeah. What do you think?
- 6:30You've been taking fights too, man. And Rod Tang
- 6:35always takes punishment. That's kind of his deal.
- 6:37Like the Iron Man, he has an iron chin. You can't
- 6:41break his chin, so you would think. but it got
- 6:46broken i i like rod tang but this made me happy
- 6:54like takaru is such a legend and it's his last
- 6:58fight and he got to go out with an amazing knockout
- 7:01stoppage of the guy who never even gets knocked
- 7:04down it was excellent fucking movie level writing
- 7:09yeah his like his biggest rival or one of his
- 7:13biggest rivals Yeah. And he got it back in Tokyo
- 7:19in front of a home crowd. It was excellent. Good
- 7:24stuff. That's on the One Samurai event. If you
- 7:28haven't seen it, you should definitely catch
- 7:30it. I think One has all those fights up on YouTube
- 7:35for everyone. Really? Pretty... I might be misspeaking.
- 7:42I'm pretty sure outside of Japan, it's up on
- 7:45YouTube. I got it on live .onefc .com. Okay,
- 7:56yeah. A lot of that stuff gets put up on YouTube.
- 8:00Yeah, it usually does. They usually put their
- 8:02stuff up on YouTube, which is really cool. into
- 8:08the boxing chatter uh the survey continues bxng
- 8:14.co slash survey tell me what you think about
- 8:16the titles which ones do you think are more prestigious
- 8:19than the others which do you think are more corrupt
- 8:23than the others or least corrupt um yeah bxng
- 8:28.co slash survey and the muhammad ali american
- 8:31boxing revival act i'm not stopping until this
- 8:36shit is over Go to ldxmedia .net slash bsides.
- 8:42There's a link right at the top. It takes you
- 8:44to the Senate website where you can find the
- 8:48contact information for your senators. And my
- 8:52website has a blurb that you can use on how you
- 8:59contact them, whether you do a phone call or
- 9:03an email, or if you want to do pen and paper
- 9:06snail mail. This is the type of stuff that senators
- 9:09listen to, legislators in America in general
- 9:12listen to. So we got to do something while we
- 9:15can. And like I said, I'm not stopping until
- 9:19we win. So that's enough of that stuff. Breaking
- 9:26news. Angelo Leo versus Raees Alim is canceled.
- 9:32Alim missed weight by 2 .8 pounds. That's quite
- 9:37a bit. It is. He came back, and then he still
- 9:43missed weight by two pounds on his second attempt.
- 9:48Yeah, I was really looking forward to this fight.
- 9:51I'm pretty bummed that it was canceled, but I
- 9:54understand why. Just make weight, guys. Especially
- 9:59for a title fight, of all things. A title fight,
- 10:02man. It's your job. Like, I don't know. I'm really
- 10:08disappointed. I know missing weight happens,
- 10:11but it's been happening a lot lately. Like, pretty
- 10:17consistently, things are canceled every couple
- 10:22months right now, and I don't like it. This is
- 10:26Aleem's first time missing weight, which is kind
- 10:29of... Interesting. That's what makes me think
- 10:33it wasn't a deliberate gamesmanship type of thing.
- 10:37No, I don't think this one was. I'm bummed this
- 10:43fight was off. I wanted to see Leo defend his
- 10:46title. Yeah, he hasn't fought for a year since
- 10:52he won it. But Gary Jonas, who is his... Angelo
- 10:58Leo's promoter, did say that they are likely
- 11:03going to be putting him on a top -ranked card.
- 11:07Now that top -ranked has a secure broadcast deal.
- 11:11Yeah. They're looking at DeZone. I wonder if
- 11:14they'll give Aleem another chance or a new contender.
- 11:19I'm curious. I want to see who is in the IBF
- 11:24rankings. Featherweight. Omar Trinidad is the
- 11:34number two contender, but he's on Zufa. So...
- 11:39Toshiki Shimomachi is number three. Mikito Nakano
- 11:49is number four, and I don't think he'll be fighting
- 11:53Tomoki Kameda again. He fought Tomoki, right?
- 11:58Yeah, I'm pretty sure. And Nick Ball was number
- 12:04six. Would be funny. I think as it'll come out
- 12:09on B -Sides, which was recorded before this.
- 12:15So we don't know that it was canceled yet over
- 12:17there. But we were talking about Leo possibly
- 12:21fighting Nick Ball. And Josh said it would be
- 12:24funny to see. Nickball get knocked out again.
- 12:27It would be funny. I would enjoy that. I cannot
- 12:32deny that I would too. The U .S. U .K. Canada
- 12:38versus U .K. Are you including yourselves in
- 12:42the rivalry? Yeah. Everyone versus U .K. U .K.
- 12:47versus the world. You're going to lose. You can't
- 12:54support the The Empire. Not no Mo. Moving to
- 13:03speaking of Trinidad. Zufa Boxing 8. The main
- 13:08card has been announced. It's looking honestly
- 13:12pretty decent. Starting from the bottom, Omar
- 13:17Trinidad versus Jerwin on Cajas at Featherweight.
- 13:22Interesting. Well, of course he has to. Jerwin's
- 13:27moving up to the full 126. But Trinidad is...
- 13:34His experience leaves a bit to be desired. He's
- 13:4320 -0 -2. He hasn't really fought anybody that's
- 13:49pushed him. And Jerwin... is kind of tailor -made
- 13:55to be beaten at this stage of his career. Jerwin
- 13:59Uncahas is coming into this 38 -4 -2. So... Yeah.
- 14:05He's definitely the aged, seasoned veteran. And
- 14:10he's moving up in weight. So this should be a
- 14:13good test for Trinidad. It's about all I can.
- 14:18Ancas has had one fight at 126 against someone
- 14:22I've never heard of in Mexico where he got a
- 14:24knockout. All right. So I guess he's not moving
- 14:30up totally fresh. So there's that. But still.
- 14:35It'll be interesting. I might have to cheer for
- 14:39the little Filipino. Oh, I'm definitely going
- 14:42for Ancas in this case. Gotta make Takuma's resume
- 14:48look better. Kane Sandoval will be facing Brandon
- 14:55Lee. I'm excited to see Brandon Lee again. Me
- 15:01too. I'm glad he's back. What weight is this
- 15:09at? 147. That's a pretty big jump up for Brandon
- 15:15Lee. He was fighting at 140 before his layoff.
- 15:20So it kind of makes sense that he took a lot
- 15:23of time off. He can't shrink back down to 40
- 15:27with Zufa. Yeah, I don't know Sandoval. I feel
- 15:37like I've heard his name, but I don't remember
- 15:39him. Yeah. And in the main event, Rayo Valenzuela
- 15:45rematching Edwin De Los Santos, this time at
- 15:50135. This should be a good fight. Yes. I think.
- 15:56I think so too. Rayo has grown quite a bit since
- 16:01his loss to De Los Santos. So, should be a good
- 16:07time. Yeah, yeah. De Los Santos still has that
- 16:14power threat presence or aura, I think the kids
- 16:19are saying these days. It should be fun. I think
- 16:27Valenzuela has gotten better, though. It should
- 16:31be a closer matchup. De Los Santos' time since
- 16:35their last fight has not been very well spent.
- 16:38Ryo's been fighting, winning. Won a title. Lost
- 16:45a title as well, I guess. But still, he's been
- 16:49spending his time a little bit more wisely. I
- 16:52would say. But yeah, Zufa Boxing 8 will be on
- 16:59Paramount +, as usual. This one is happening
- 17:02outside of the Apex. That's exciting. This is
- 17:06at the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. The Chelsea Ballroom.
- 17:11It's actually, that's a pretty nice venue. Still
- 17:14kind of small, but it's a nice venue. And maybe
- 17:19Zufa will realize that having a gate is helpful.
- 17:24Yeah, maybe. Whatever hastens their departure.
- 17:31So I'm going to hope they don't figure that out.
- 17:35Fair enough. Moving on. The Mason brothers. All
- 17:41three of them will be fighting on the July 4th
- 17:44top ranked card. I have to say I didn't know
- 17:49there was three of them. I think there are more.
- 17:52I think it's just three that fight. Interesting.
- 17:57Like the Russells. Fair enough. I like the Russells
- 18:04better probably. I think Abdullah Mason. And
- 18:09his brothers are like the next version. Yeah.
- 18:13They're not going to... I don't think Abdullah
- 18:18is... Can he? I was going to... Compared to Gary
- 18:25Allen, the senior... The oldest one. The oldest
- 18:32one, yeah. I'm wondering if Abdullah Mason can
- 18:35replicate his success. Because I'm super high
- 18:38on Abdullah, so I'm biased as fuck here. Apparently
- 18:44there's five of them. All right, well. Five Mason
- 18:53Bros? Yeah. I think that's how many Russell Brothers
- 18:56there are. The brothers, according to AI, are
- 19:03sometimes referred to as the Jackson Five of
- 19:05boxing. Hilarious. Interesting. It's probably
- 19:13something one person said and AI pulled it out.
- 19:18AI also said that we're a true crime podcast.
- 19:22And that Nathan is nasty Nate. That came from
- 19:30a review on Apple. Apple Podcasts. Excellent.
- 19:36I love it. Whoever reviewed that, kudos. Nasty
- 19:41Nate Wordsmith gets all the babes. At this point,
- 19:48he's got the babe. I was going to say, I think
- 19:51Nate's married. Off the market, yeah. It's a
- 19:56loss for all of us. I'll never get my hands on
- 20:01Nasty Nate. Tank is looking to return in fall.
- 20:14Looking at a Pitbull rematch or a Lamont Roach
- 20:18rematch. Either way, I kind of hope he loses.
- 20:23I was going to say, I have to cheer against Tank.
- 20:28No matter who he's fighting. I think Roach beats
- 20:32him again. I do too. Honestly, he's been gone
- 20:38for quite a while with problems. Pitbull might
- 20:42be able to beat him depending how he returns.
- 20:47I can't imagine his head's been in boxing lately.
- 20:50Probably not. I'm also not 100 % convinced this
- 20:59even happens. I'm not either. It was just on
- 21:02the rumor mill. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Also, not on
- 21:08the rumor mill. This one's a little bit more
- 21:10based in fact. Samson Lukowicz has confirmed
- 21:15that Sebastian Fundora is going to be returning
- 21:17later this year in September or October. Possible
- 21:23opponents include the Zayas Boots winner. I think
- 21:28that's the least likely of them. Josh Kelly.
- 21:32Or his mandatory, WBC mandatory Virgil Ortiz.
- 21:38Second least likely, I think. I think it's going
- 21:40to be Josh Kelly. I would agree. And honestly,
- 21:44I would like that. Me too. I want unifications.
- 21:50Yeah. And Josh Kelly's the less scary of all
- 21:56of those fights. It's... We're assuming Boots
- 22:01beats Zaius, but just in the off chance that
- 22:04Zaius beats Boots, that is a man that is riding
- 22:07the highest of momentum waves. Yeah. Like, holy
- 22:14shit level momentum. Yeah. But I want the unification
- 22:24with Josh Kelly and then an undisputed fight.
- 22:29Was whoever wins that other one. Hell yeah. That's
- 22:31what I want too. 100%. Sorry Virgil. The chair
- 22:38is in the corner. I do feel bad for Virgil. But.
- 22:44I still want. I want the unification. Yeah. It
- 22:49would be nice. For the Virgil situation. To get
- 22:53sorted. Just because I really fucking hate the
- 22:57way the WBC does interims. Like, I want this
- 23:01to be consolidated so that we don't have this.
- 23:04Yeah. This situation. And I think the Zaius Boots
- 23:13winner, that's a really quick turnaround for
- 23:16them. I think Josh Kelly, he's been out since
- 23:21January, I think. Yeah, it's been a minute for
- 23:28Josh Kelly. And then Fundora's been out since
- 23:30March. So for those two to unify, it makes the
- 23:34most sense. Virgil's still in arbitration or
- 23:39whatever. Yeah. Yeah, I think the Josh Kelly
- 23:44fight's most likely. And it's one that I like.
- 23:48Like, I think Fundora beats Josh Kelly, but not
- 23:53much you can do about it. Oh, man. Speaking of
- 24:01things that you can't do much about, Mayweather
- 24:04Pacquiao 2 changes dates. It's now on September
- 24:0725th. Does that make you more excited for it?
- 24:11No. Nothing is going to make me excited for this
- 24:15fight. The first one wasn't very fun, and that
- 24:21was like 10 years ago. This might be a closer
- 24:25fight, but still. You think it goes the same
- 24:28way? I don't know. I mean, logically, it probably
- 24:35could. But Pacquiao has been much more active.
- 24:39I know Mayweather stays in shape and everything
- 24:42else, but... I think this might be a closer fight,
- 24:49but probably Mayweather still wins by unanimous
- 24:52decision. So, 8 -4 instead of 10 -2? Yeah. I
- 25:01hate to say it, I would love if Pacquiao just
- 25:03sparked him. Old man knockout. But, I think most
- 25:09likely is, yeah, probably about an 8 -4. Don't
- 25:17have much to add. This fight doesn't really excite
- 25:21me. Will I be watching? Yes. Of course. I hope
- 25:28they make a decent undercard. Because this is
- 25:31one that's going to get a lot of eyes, even if
- 25:33it's a shitty fight. So put some good, exciting
- 25:36boxing underneath it so that the casuals tuning
- 25:39in for Mayweather get to see good boxing. Who
- 25:44do you put on it? Kermel Moten? I think he's
- 25:47a money team guy. Yeah, I don't know who's...
- 25:53with who but like i don't want them to have a
- 25:56bunch of like pacquiao's kids oh you know that
- 26:00manny pacquiao jr is gonna be on this come on
- 26:04yeah but put him at the like very beginning and
- 26:07then put some decent fights closer to the main
- 26:10event the first time they didn't put very good
- 26:14fights on they had no i know lomachenko in a
- 26:17shitter and leo santa cruz in a shitter Yeah,
- 26:21I don't want one -sided beatdowns. I want at
- 26:24least one good war that gets the casuals tuning
- 26:26into boxing. I think it's unlikely, but I think
- 26:30it would be smarter. David Benavides. Yeah, he's
- 26:36not going to co -main anything. This level of
- 26:41card, though? Maybe. I think he would drive more
- 26:46purchases. He would, but I think Benavidez wants
- 26:50to be the main event near... What's Mexican Independence
- 26:57Day? September 18th? 16th. Okay. I think he wants
- 27:02to headline a card that weekend and try and officially
- 27:07usurp the Mexican holidays fighter position.
- 27:12That's what I think Benavidez wants. Have a small
- 27:15smile, because... Yep, that would be nice. Yeah,
- 27:19I don't think he's going to undercard this when
- 27:23he's become so popular. That's all we got for
- 27:28the news, though. I tried to check kind of thoroughly
- 27:35before we started. Didn't miss anything. Nah,
- 27:42I think the news cycle is just being dominated
- 27:45by Dubois Wardley. Yeah. Well, I mean, as it
- 27:51should. We want eyes on the big boys. I guess.
- 27:58It's another version of driving fans to the sport.
- 28:03The big fellas. Alright, let me put in some notes.

- 31:30Let's blow through some shit really quickly because
- 31:32we got two major cards to talk about. First one.
- 31:39Wednesday, April 29th. Matchroom on DAZN in Kensington.
- 31:47Victoria, Australia. Terra Moana started us,
- 31:53or he co -maned with a big knockout and won over
- 31:56Bowie Tupou. They really need to step up his
- 32:01competition. I feel like they have been. I want
- 32:06to see Terra Moana go some rounds. He needs to
- 32:11start skipping steps on his way up the climb.
- 32:15I mean, he's not old, but he is 28. It's time
- 32:19that he goes against people he's not knocking
- 32:22out in one or two rounds. In my opinion. His
- 32:28competition has been getting stepped up. He's
- 32:30just that much better. So, yeah, they need to
- 32:35do a little bit better. Do a little bit more.
- 32:38Because clearly Terra Moana is capable. So, let's...
- 32:43Well, let's start getting some fucking rounds
- 32:45in. Because... That's what I want. Yeah, he's
- 32:51not too far away from Moses Atalma. Yeah, but
- 32:58we just haven't... Well, Moses Atalma hasn't
- 33:01gotten many rounds either. But... Quality of
- 33:04opposition has been better. Yeah, I was going
- 33:07to say maybe it's just because he fights in Australia
- 33:09and I don't know any Australian heavies, but
- 33:13I don't recognize any of these names. Sky Nicholson
- 33:20bloodies Mariah Turner to retain the interim
- 33:25WBC super bantamweight title. It was a good fight.
- 33:32It was enjoyable. Sky did what you would expect
- 33:39an interim champion to do. Too athletic, too
- 33:50fast, too sharp. She clearly had Turner outclassed
- 33:55at every turn. Yeah, Turner was getting a little
- 33:59desperate. They took a point, right? Yeah, she
- 34:03was getting dirty. Saturday, May 1st. ProBox
- 34:15TV at the Maryland Live Casino. Sambatar Erdenbott
- 34:24got the win over Kobe Abreedy. It was competitive
- 34:29in the beginning. Cobia gave a really spirited
- 34:35performance, but it became clearer as the rounds
- 34:40went on that Erdenbot is just on the next level,
- 34:45and Breedy couldn't keep up. I like Erdenbot.
- 34:50Me too. I tune in for him. Let me get one out
- 34:56of the way. Sunday, May 3rd. Top tier boxing
- 35:00on DAZN. Sam Noakes stops Benito Sanchez in two.
- 35:07Look at that, big dog. You can beat a Mexican.
- 35:12See? You don't have to be scared of him. The
- 35:15Mexican that hasn't won in like 17, 19, and 4.
- 35:22How many? 13 losses in a row now. I'm telling
- 35:28you, I'm 100 % convinced of my theory on Benito
- 35:33Sanchez. Oh, yeah. They're bringing him over
- 35:36to lose as a confidence booster. Yeah. And not
- 35:41just your typical confidence booster. Like, he's
- 35:44not just standard cannon fodder. I mean, he kind
- 35:49of is. He hasn't won in 14 fights. But I mean
- 35:53to say that they pick him because he's Mexican
- 35:56so that the confidence booster gets the extra
- 36:01added ingredient of he's Mexican. But you beat
- 36:07him. See? You can beat him. They're beatable.
- 36:11Yeah. The last 12 have been UK fights, so I guess
- 36:15one was in Dublin. Same shit. The British Isles.
- 36:23Is Ireland part of the British Isles? Yeah. Oh,
- 36:26okay. Anyways, yeah. Ridiculous. Oh, Sammy, Sammy.
- 36:36Saturday, May 2nd. We are starting with Ohashi
- 36:41on DAZN. Oh my goodness. What a card. Let's start
- 36:48with where we got fucked. Where we in the West
- 36:51got fucked. Yeah. I can't believe they didn't
- 36:58show you guys this. Like, I was hyping this fight
- 37:02to everyone because I knew it was going to be
- 37:05exactly what it was. They're basically clones
- 37:08of each other. Like, do you remember in the first
- 37:10Pokemon movie when Mewtwo made the clones and
- 37:13all the Pokemon are fighting themselves? Yep.
- 37:16that's what this was and it turned into exactly
- 37:19what happens in that movie at the end where they
- 37:22just like one punches the other and they're both
- 37:24exhausted and then the other punches them no
- 37:27defense all haymakers and i could not believe
- 37:33it went to a decision because how the fuck did
- 37:36neither of you get the knockout because sora
- 37:39tanaka i know he's not that famous but came into
- 37:43this 5 -0 with five knockouts. Like, he's literally
- 37:48knocked out everyone. And it's Jin Sasaki, so
- 37:51you know he's getting hit a shit ton. And yeah,
- 37:56they just stood and punched each other for ten
- 37:58rounds. It was amazing. And I can't believe DAZN
- 38:05didn't show this, because everyone knew that's
- 38:08what it would be. Throwing my hands up and shrugging.
- 38:14Because, fuck, dude. Like, of all these fights,
- 38:19like, the ones that were broadcast in the West,
- 38:22Takuma, nice. Naoya, fucking, of course. Yoshiki
- 38:29Takei, question mark. Why the fuck was he co
- 38:32-main? I don't understand why they didn't put
- 38:35Sasaki co -main. I get that you need to split
- 38:38the brothers for the team to have time. Put the
- 38:42fun fight as co -main. Fuck. One of the fun fights,
- 38:47because wasn't the Yuita Moriwaki over Duck No
- 38:51Yun a good one? Yeah, that was also super fun.
- 38:55It's Asian super middleweights, so kind of the
- 38:59same thing. Sluggers. Yeah. Just beating the
- 39:03shit out of each other for 10 rounds. Honestly,
- 39:07all the un... uh aired fights in the west were
- 39:11quite entertaining excellent so glad that we
- 39:15missed that shimomachi versus reya abe was more
- 39:21boxing a little slower but still fun went to
- 39:24mixed decision like the opener they had a 10
- 39:29round opener and an eight round co -main i do
- 39:33not understand this card at all But the opener
- 39:37was two young guys, Tomioka and Tanaka, and they
- 39:42fucked the Osaka boy. I swear to God, he won
- 39:46that fight and it ended up a split draw. Ridiculous.
- 39:55And like, even just Jin Sasaki's walkout. He
- 39:59choreographed his walkout. He clearly had changes
- 40:02in the song and marks to hit and places to pause.
- 40:06Jin Sasaki has nicknamed himself the movie and
- 40:09acts like it. Like, how do you not show that
- 40:12pageantry to everyone? Exasperated breath. I
- 40:21did hear that ESPN KO had it, so... If you have
- 40:27ESPN. So Latin America got it, but the rest of
- 40:33us did not. Ridiculous. In the televised portion,
- 40:39Takuma Inoue gets the UD over Kazuto Ioka covered
- 40:44in fucking body paint. Yeah. I... I guess no
- 40:50one else had tattoos on the televised portion,
- 40:53but it's extra funny because they didn't make
- 40:55any of the foreign guys cover their tattoos.
- 40:59At all. There were foreign guys? Just the Korean
- 41:03dude, right? Yeah, the Korean dude, his tattoos
- 41:07were full display. Unbelievable. Yeah, that's
- 41:17the JBC. change their rules and theoretically
- 41:22uh ioka's makeup came off enough they could have
- 41:28disqualified them i mean they wouldn't on international
- 41:30tv but that's in the rules now if your uh makeup
- 41:35comes off enough you can be disqualified dumbfounded
- 41:41expression what the fuck is the jbc on Japan's
- 41:49getting more traditional again. Oh, that never
- 41:55went poorly for anyone. No. But into the fight,
- 42:00this one hurt my heart. I mean, I saw it coming.
- 42:03I did. But Ioka was just too slow. He's just
- 42:09too old. Yeah, Takuma had him pretty much ranged
- 42:14out, timed out from... Pretty early on. Yeah.
- 42:21I know I've seen people making a big deal that
- 42:24Takuma must have some power because he got the
- 42:27knockdown in round one. But I don't think that
- 42:31was really power. It was just a combination that
- 42:35got Ioka really off balance. And like, it was
- 42:39a knockdown. I'm not saying it wasn't, but I
- 42:41don't think it was a knockdown from... power
- 42:43and being hurt it was a knockdown because he
- 42:46got him really off balance and landed a shot
- 42:48that pushed him over he landed at the right like
- 42:52i said the timing he had him yeah he had the
- 42:54timing figured out like pretty much from the
- 42:57onset it was i think that's the like a key difference
- 43:02is takuma relies on boxing and timing and speed
- 43:07quite a bit Whereas Naoya gets to lean on power
- 43:13a little bit more. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, Takuma looked
- 43:18really good in this. Like, not to take anything
- 43:20away from him. I think he is a really good boxer.
- 43:24He just gets compared to his brother all the
- 43:25time. We've said this, like, for ages. Even,
- 43:29like, back when he was fighting for the WBA bantamweight
- 43:32title, however long ago that was, was that Takuma
- 43:37is a very good boxer in his own right. He just
- 43:40has to live. He's like your trips to Mount Fuji.
- 43:45It's always clouded by Naoya. Yeah. Yeah. But
- 43:51I am glad that Ioka got to fight on the big stage.
- 43:55Even if he lost and he's old and he didn't look
- 43:57his best, he got to fight in Tokyo Dome in front
- 44:01of a sold -out crowd. Like he deserves. Finally
- 44:05getting the respect he deserves. Fucking four
- 44:08-weight... Four -division champion. And... They
- 44:12have him fighting in a gymnasium on the very
- 44:15outskirts of Tokyo. Wonderful. Yeah. But Takuma
- 44:20looked really good. Yeah. And... Yeah. Yoshiki
- 44:25Takei? Majority decision against Dekang Wang?
- 44:32Question mark? I think Wang beat him. I think
- 44:38so too. I wasn't impressed with Takei's performance.
- 44:43That was not what I would expect from a former
- 44:46champion. No. He was getting bullied. He just
- 44:52didn't look good. And why was it eight rounds?
- 44:57I don't know. I think Takei's people knew he
- 45:03wasn't really... At his best, coming off the
- 45:09Medina knockout. But I said it before, I don't
- 45:15know why this was co -made. I have no idea why
- 45:18they did this. Your guess is better than mine.
- 45:24This is a fight you can skip if you're going
- 45:27back replays. I don't have a whole bunch to say
- 45:33about it because it was just like... Sasaki had
- 45:37me flying high, and then Ioka losing kind of
- 45:41brought it down for me personally, and then this
- 45:44fight was a bit of a dud, and I was like, man,
- 45:47like, Jin Sasaki should have been co -main. He
- 45:53could have at least put Moriwaka 1 -0 -1 at a
- 45:5810 -rounder. You clearly believe in him. Yeah.
- 46:07Yeah, I don't get the pacing of this card at
- 46:10all. Well, speaking of pacing, Naoya Inoue outlasts
- 46:17Junto Nakatani. I know this isn't the fight that
- 46:24people were expecting, but I kind of saw it coming.
- 46:28Inoue wasn't going to turn this into a firefight
- 46:30because he might lose that. And I thought in
- 46:34the first half of the fight, he had... great
- 46:36distance control and he had Nakatani scared to
- 46:43throw a little bit. Nakatani looked really nervous.
- 46:47I think Nakatani was a little overawed by the
- 46:54occasion. He hasn't fought in front of a crowd
- 46:56like this before and he looked nervous walking
- 47:00in and I think it took him five or six rounds
- 47:05to kind of get into it and in a way took advantage
- 47:10of that i think in a way banked most of those
- 47:13rounds now there's going to be a large contingent
- 47:19of people who a sizable maybe not large but a
- 47:25sizable contingent that are going to say the
- 47:29headbutt shifted the momentum of the fight It
- 47:34might have. I mean, Nakatani had those two rounds
- 47:38before the headbutt, or including the headbutt
- 47:43round. He was looking a lot better. He was starting
- 47:46to press. He was throwing his left. He caught
- 47:50in a way a couple times. I don't think Nakatani
- 47:54has the one -hit power that people kind of project
- 47:58on him. They always forget that that Maloney
- 48:01knockout was late and he'd been beating the piss
- 48:04out of Maloney. I think he has power, but I don't
- 48:07think he's a one hitter quitter like everyone
- 48:09says. Yeah, I think I was one of the people who
- 48:14was projecting a little bit too much power onto
- 48:17him. I was of the mind that if it was going to
- 48:21be, if there was going to be a knockdown or like
- 48:25a Naoya being seriously hurt, it was going to
- 48:29be towards the beginning where it's happened
- 48:33before that Naoya overextends a little bit. Yeah.
- 48:37And then he gets caught, typically by a lefty.
- 48:42Inoue was really overextending in the ninth round.
- 48:46I was worried he was going to get clipped. He
- 48:49was reaching, trying to get inside Nakatani's
- 48:54reach. And then the head clash happened. But,
- 48:59I mean, that happens with Orthodox and Southpaw.
- 49:05And Nakatani has a ton of head clashes in his
- 49:08career. Like, it just happens. Yeah, he had a
- 49:12Nishida. They had a lot of head clashes. Yeah.
- 49:17But then in the 11th, Inoue landed an uppercut
- 49:22that apparently broke Junto's orbital underneath
- 49:25his eye. His coach said that really changed the
- 49:31fight. That uppercut is why Nakatani looked not
- 49:36as good in the championship rounds. I was going
- 49:38to say, didn't that happen in the 10th or 11th?
- 49:42I think it was early in the 11th round. Okay,
- 49:45that's what I thought. And Nakatani started putting
- 49:47his hand up over his eye, and people were crediting
- 49:52that to the blood from the headbutt. But who's
- 49:58his coach? Rudy Hernandez. Yeah, thank you. Has
- 50:03said in interviews, no, that's not what it was.
- 50:05His eye was broken. Jesus. Kudos to Nakatani
- 50:11for fighting two rounds with a busted eye. But
- 50:16that really took him back out of the fight. And
- 50:20I think, in a way, won those last two rounds.
- 50:24Rightfully, he should have been a little bit
- 50:25more hesitant to exchange if he was just going
- 50:28to get caught with another damage his eye more.
- 50:32I wouldn't risk that personally, but I don't
- 50:36get paid millions for it. Yeah, honestly, out
- 50:40of the two, I think Naoya might have more one
- 50:43-punch power. I think you might be right. But
- 50:52the second half of the fight was really fun.
- 50:57But the first half was a little slow. But I think
- 51:00it was slow because, in a way, it was controlling
- 51:05the distance so well and not giving Nakatani
- 51:08any openings. You thought he managed the distance
- 51:12well? In the first half of the fight, I thought
- 51:14he really did. And he... I think he started going
- 51:22for damage in the second half. Inoue kind of
- 51:25shifted gears from I'm going to be defensive
- 51:29and pot shot here and there to I want to show
- 51:34everyone I'm still Naoya Inoue and do some damage
- 51:37and land some punches. And that's when the distance
- 51:40control fell apart. He started overreaching trying
- 51:44to hit him. He wasn't as composed. But in the
- 51:48first half, I thought he controlled the distance
- 51:52really well. He was making Nakatani miss by like
- 51:55half an inch in the first half and staying pretty
- 52:00close. But in the second half, he was really
- 52:03trying to get in and opening himself up more.
- 52:09I really thought in the opening rounds that the
- 52:14height was giving... naoya a little bit of trouble
- 52:19where he couldn't he couldn't figure out his
- 52:23range quite as well as he would have liked to
- 52:25like he did figure it out later yes but i thought
- 52:29in the beginning that's that's what i thought
- 52:31was happening and then as it went on and he wanted
- 52:36to like he wanted to engage a bit more and that's
- 52:40when nakatani started finding more success i
- 52:42thought that the height and reach advantage had
- 52:46something to do with that success. Yeah. Maybe
- 52:50I didn't articulate what I was trying to say.
- 52:52The first half, he was controlling the distance
- 52:55so Nakatani couldn't hit him. Not so much. Like,
- 52:59he didn't have his range, but he was staying
- 53:02outside Nakatani's range very nicely. I see what
- 53:05you mean. I see. Yeah. To me, that's part of
- 53:09distance control. just not getting hit of course
- 53:14like that that is a part of it especially when
- 53:17you have such a rangy opponent is keeping out
- 53:20of their out of their touch the height definitely
- 53:24was giving in a way trouble i think if he goes
- 53:27up to 126 and fights any of the taller guys he's
- 53:30gonna be in very big trouble I was going to say,
- 53:34like, the talk, now that he's beaten Nakatani,
- 53:38the talk of him moving up to 126 has heated up
- 53:40quite a bit. And my thought was, like, Figueroa
- 53:45is manageable. The same way he was able to figure
- 53:48out and manage Nakatani, he can manage Figueroa.
- 53:52But Espinoza, oh, no. I don't want to see Inoue
- 53:56fight Espinoza because I think he'll lose. I
- 53:59don't think that's going to happen, buddy. Sorry,
- 54:01Nalia. Like, I'm a big fan and everything, but
- 54:04I don't know. Yeah, no. He was having trouble
- 54:08breaking the distance, for sure. And Espinoza
- 54:13is like a fucking Tardo, like Fundora. Like,
- 54:17he can fight Scrappy on the inside. He knows
- 54:21how to use his, like, the recurring joke we have
- 54:26about long levers. Yeah. yeah i know this fight
- 54:32wasn't what people wanted it to be but i really
- 54:36enjoyed it it was so tense the whole time like
- 54:39anything more for this one before because we
- 54:43got one more car to get to no no i think we can
- 54:46move on all right uh really quickly eggington
- 54:49got fucking murked uh did i don't did you see
- 54:55what happened like did you go back and see the
- 54:57the just the clip of the ending I saw he got
- 55:03knocked out. I heard Eggington was like winning
- 55:07the fight and then it was like a comeback knockout.
- 55:10I don't know about winning the fight, but it
- 55:12was competitive. But yeah, the knockout, like
- 55:15he was zombie, dead on his feet. Yeah, yeah,
- 55:18yeah. It was pretty nuts. I heard Eggington retired.
- 55:23Good. After. Good. My man has taken more than
- 55:29enough punishment. He always takes punishment
- 55:32even when he wins. PBC, this was on Prime and
- 55:40DAZN. I got three fights that I want to talk
- 55:44about. Oscar Duarte, split decision over Angel
- 55:49Fierro. I wasn't so sure about this one, but
- 55:52Josh did put me on game. And he pointed out that
- 56:00Angel was... When you have, like, two bulls clashing
- 56:05heads, the one who backs off is usually the one
- 56:10losing. Yeah. And that's typically what we were
- 56:14seeing when we got into... When we did get into
- 56:17heated exchanges, however brief, it was typically
- 56:21Fiyero that was backing off. So, I don't know.
- 56:25Maybe Oscar won. My gut tells me he didn't. Close
- 56:32split decision. You can't complain too much.
- 56:36Yeah, I'm not fussed either way. It's just I
- 56:38thought Angel won. I thought Angel did enough.
- 56:41But what are you going to do? Speaking of what
- 56:48are you going to do, Resendiz drops the ball
- 56:52and he gets swept. By Jaime Munguia to lose his
- 56:58WBA super middleweight title. I was really disappointed
- 57:02in Resendiz. So was I. Like, he was outgunned
- 57:08from the very beginning, and it didn't seem like
- 57:11he was interested in trying anything different
- 57:14other than coming forward and trying to, like,
- 57:19swarm. Yeah, like, no adjustment during the fight
- 57:25at all. But Munguia looked more like classic
- 57:31Munguia, I guess. You know, like, a lot of pressure,
- 57:36pretty good gas tank. I thought he was a good
- 57:40mix of the new Reynoso version in addition to,
- 57:45like, classic. Because he did have the good gas
- 57:48tank, and he was... heavy pressure, but he was
- 57:53boxing really smart. And I was actually genuinely
- 57:57impressed with how well he managed mixing his
- 58:03offense with defending against Resendiz throwing
- 58:09back at him. Yeah, Munguia looked good. He did.
- 58:13I begrudgingly admit he looked good. You know
- 58:25who else looked good? Jesus Christ. David Benavidez
- 58:29knocks out Gilberto Ramirez in six. This was
- 58:36fucking terrifying. Yeah. Yeah. What was terrifying
- 58:45about it? I don't even know what to say. Well,
- 58:46his hand speed is fucking crazy. um i will say
- 58:52zerto looked like he kind of gave up like after
- 58:59the first round i think it was bad coaching to
- 59:02be honest i heard on i forget which of the podcasts
- 59:09i listened to uh with chris algieri his theory
- 59:13is that the sparring rumors were true The Benavides
- 59:18beat the shit out of Zerto in their sparring
- 59:21years ago. And Zerto came in thinking he couldn't
- 59:26win. He came in ready to get his ass kicked.
- 59:30And in hindsight, I can kind of see where that
- 59:35might be true. I can see that. I agree. instantly
- 59:41shelled up like before benavidez even really
- 59:44threw or landed anything serious zerto was already
- 59:48shelled up high guard like this is gonna hurt
- 59:52type but well we've always known that the speed
- 59:58gap was going to be enormous Yeah, but I expected
- 1:00:04Zerto to use his footwork a little more. Like,
- 1:00:08he's not fast, but he cuts some weird angles
- 1:00:11and stuff. I didn't see him do that once in this
- 1:00:13fight. I didn't really see him try in this fight.
- 1:00:19But that's kind of what I mean. Like, I kind
- 1:00:21of feel like he came in expecting to lose and
- 1:00:24ready to lose. whoever his coach is like he needs
- 1:00:28to get a new one because his coach was telling
- 1:00:30him like at i i'm just throw picking random numbers
- 1:00:36but like it's the end of round four david benavides
- 1:00:40just landed like a 12 punch fucking combination
- 1:00:42and the coach is like yeah we got him right where
- 1:00:45he won him you you gotta throw between his punches
- 1:00:49like i Are you not watching the same thing that
- 1:00:52I'm watching? Yeah. Yeah, the corner work was
- 1:00:55fucking awful. But Benavidez looks spectacular.
- 1:01:01Yeah. Absolutely spectacular. And, like, I think
- 1:01:06it was round one, he shoeshined for a minute,
- 1:01:09and I was like, fuck. He's fast as fuck. And
- 1:01:12then in like round three, he did the same thing,
- 1:01:16but with some power on his punches. And I was
- 1:01:18like, Jesus. Like, and Zerto's a pretty tough
- 1:01:24guy, but that eye looked fucked. It was fucked.
- 1:01:31He had a, I think he had broken orbital bones
- 1:01:36as well. Yeah. Man, Benavidez deserves the El
- 1:01:44Monstro. I like, I can't say it in Spanish, but
- 1:01:51I like the red bandana better. But man, he deserves
- 1:01:54the monster now. He earned it. Yeah, yeah. After
- 1:01:59this one, I can't complain anymore. That's like
- 1:02:05a banner. That's like a marquee award. You earned
- 1:02:10the monster. But he really did. I thought Benavidez
- 1:02:16would slow down a little going up in weight,
- 1:02:18but he didn't at all. No, not even a little bit.
- 1:02:21If anything, he might have been faster. Honestly,
- 1:02:25though, I don't know if Benavidez is going to
- 1:02:27want to go down. I know he said he was, but he
- 1:02:31looked very comfortable at 200 pounds. Going
- 1:02:35back down to 175, he might be like... This sucks.
- 1:02:41Now, you were saying that Benavidez might be
- 1:02:45faster at 200. I mean, he looked faster. I wonder
- 1:02:51if he was faster than Canelo leaving the arena.
- 1:02:56Nobody was faster than Canelo leaving the arena.
- 1:03:00Get the fuck out of the arena before they call
- 1:03:03me out. Yeah. It made me so happy to watch Canelo
- 1:03:12sit there awkwardly and watch a fight on Cinco
- 1:03:16de Mayo weekend. And he got booed every time
- 1:03:20he was on screen. Well, because it was all Benavidez
- 1:03:25fans in the building. Yeah. Top to bottom, though,
- 1:03:29this card was amazing. Yeah, it was really good.
- 1:03:34Easily card of the year this year for me so far.
- 1:03:39Damn. Are we adding another award category? I
- 1:03:44mean, I'm probably not going to pay attention
- 1:03:47to it every year, but this card was stacked with
- 1:03:50all -action exciting fights. Yeah, it was really
- 1:03:54good. I hope this is a sign of PBC moving to
- 1:03:58DAZN. It would be nice if they're all in the
- 1:04:01same place. I know people hate DAZN, and there's
- 1:04:05many reasons to, like not showing Jin Sasaki.
- 1:04:10Anything more for the PPC card? I have one thing
- 1:04:17that Benavides said in an interview that was
- 1:04:21just the dumbest shit I've ever heard. So he
- 1:04:25told Beevil they could fight at a 190 catch weight
- 1:04:28and have all his belts on the line. Benavides
- 1:04:31said this? Yeah. The light heavyweight and the
- 1:04:36cruiserweight belts on the line at a catch weight.
- 1:04:38And I'm like, that's not how belts work. Like,
- 1:04:41you can't fight at 190 for the 175 belt. That's
- 1:04:46just not how it works, Benavidez. I'm sure he's
- 1:04:49just riding high and not thinking very much in
- 1:04:52these interviews. But it just sounded like the
- 1:04:55dumbest thing I've ever heard. That is a silly
- 1:05:02thing to say. Yeah, again, I think it was just
- 1:05:06like an excitement for the moment thing. Yeah,
- 1:05:09but I was like, come on, man. All right, let's
- 1:05:14see here. The phone line, 833 -589 -7637. I want
- 1:05:19to hear what you thought about Benavidez beating
- 1:05:23the shit out of Zerto. Or what did you think

- 1:08:35You mean upcoming stuff. Previews. Dejected slump
- 1:08:43of the shoulders. Yeah. I mix them up all the
- 1:08:47time. Upcoming shit. Recaps. Not recaps. Damn
- 1:08:53it. Previews. Precaps. That's what we should
- 1:08:58be saying. Friday, May 15th. The German ARD.
- 1:09:06I don't know what the hell that is, but that's
- 1:09:10the promotional entity. And I don't know exactly
- 1:09:13where to watch this, but if I figure it out.
- 1:09:18Keep it locked on the socials and I'll let you
- 1:09:22know. Karen Chikadzian versus Patty Donovan.
- 1:09:28This is an IBF welterweight number one contender
- 1:09:33slot. Final eliminator. I was going to say this
- 1:09:39is a weird matchup, but I guess if it's an eliminator,
- 1:09:42it's not so weird. fights in Germany have been
- 1:09:47lit. They have been. Should be a fun crowd. I
- 1:09:50hope that they put good German fighters on the
- 1:09:54undercard here. Yeah. As for who wins, I think
- 1:10:01Chakudzian's the favorite, right? Should be?
- 1:10:05Should be. He's got better... His losses are
- 1:10:10better than Patty Donovan's losses. Yeah. I don't
- 1:10:15know. It could be an interesting matchup, though.
- 1:10:18In terms of who gave it a go, Chikadzian gave
- 1:10:22it a go -er than Patty Donovan. Fair enough.
- 1:10:33Saturday, May 16th, Queensberry at the Keep Moat
- 1:10:38Stadium in Doncaster, England. Well, Co -main
- 1:10:44Maxie Hughes versus Louis Sylvester at 140. And
- 1:10:50David Allen versus Filip Hergovich. This should
- 1:10:56be fun. If nothing else, just fun. Which Dave
- 1:11:03Allen is going to show up this time, Leo? Piss
- 1:11:07in the sink or piss in the jugs? Sink's probably
- 1:11:11better. I imagine of the two, yes. Sink would
- 1:11:16be better. Yeah, I don't know. I'll watch this
- 1:11:23one just to see Dave Allen's interviews after
- 1:11:26probably. And top rank also on DAZN at the Scope
- 1:11:34Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. We have... From the
- 1:11:39bottom up, Keon Davis versus Edwin Humane Jr.
- 1:11:45Brian Norman Jr. versus Josh Wagner. Kelvin Davis
- 1:11:51versus Peter Dobson. And then Keyshawn Davis
- 1:11:56versus Nahir Albright in a rematch. This rematch
- 1:12:02should be interesting just because of the bullshit
- 1:12:05that happened after Albright fought the other
- 1:12:07Davis. And Albright got that unanimous draw with
- 1:12:14Frank Martin. Yeah. Albright's not bad. I mean,
- 1:12:22he's not world beater, but he's not bad. We'll
- 1:12:26see how close to world beater he is when he faces
- 1:12:29Keyshawn again. Non -marijuana addicted Keyshawn
- 1:12:34Davis, I'll have you know. Yeah, I don't know
- 1:12:38where... Keyshawn's head's at. He's been a bit
- 1:12:42of a fuck -up lately. Like, he could drop the
- 1:12:44ball on this one. He could. He shouldn't, but
- 1:12:48he could. I'm hoping for Nahir Albright to get
- 1:12:50the upset, because that would just be too funny.
- 1:12:53Their first fight was pretty close. Yes. I think
- 1:12:57it was a majority decision before it got turned
- 1:13:00to a no contest. Yeah. Should be a fun fight.
- 1:13:06Also, I got to shout out the Canadian just because
- 1:13:09Josh Wagner is from Ontario. Well, you've got
- 1:13:16vested interest in the card now. Yes. But that's
- 1:13:22all we got. That's it for the upcoming stuff.
- 1:13:31So we are heading into fucking piss sink. And
- 1:13:36reefer addict weekend. Bit of a letdown after
- 1:13:42the first two weekends of May. Yes. But still
- 1:13:47a solid weekend. There's fights worth watching.
- 1:13:52Yes. These should be okay. Probably not as good
- 1:13:59as Wardley Dubois. Spoiler alert, we're recording
- 1:14:05before Wardley Dubois. Yeah. But yeah, parting
- 1:14:12words for me, let me... I'm reaching into the
- 1:14:16bag of tricks here. I can go first while you
- 1:14:22select. Yeah, go for it. Last weekend, I went
- 1:14:26to a giant flower garden, and it was... Super
- 1:14:31beautiful and super relaxing. So I would suggest
- 1:14:36everybody find some nature thing to do this week.
- 1:14:40Go to a park. Just sit there. Listen to the wind
- 1:14:44in the trees. The weather should be getting nice
- 1:14:48almost everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.
- 1:14:53If quizzes are quizzical, then what are tests?
- 1:15:05Testicle. Oh, here's a topical one. Why are boxing
- 1:15:09rings square? Because fuck you. That's why. Fair
- 1:15:14enough. I always assumed it was because you would
- 1:15:19need more posts to make a circle. Yeah, and they
- 1:15:23used to be. They had the posts to make them circle
- 1:15:27and you had just one rope. going all the way
- 1:15:31around and so you did have more of a ring and
- 1:15:35everybody would stand on the edges and yeah it
- 1:15:41was uh boxing was a lot more of a shit show back
- 1:15:44in the beginning way back in the day it was just
- 1:15:47a rope laid on the ground that you couldn't step
- 1:15:50out of yeah that was during the prize rules prize
- 1:15:57rules were when uh There were no rounds. Well,
- 1:16:02the round ended when someone got a knockdown.
- 1:16:06And then you got the one minute count. And you
- 1:16:10got one minute to get up. That's too long. A
- 1:16:15full minute to get up. And however long it takes
- 1:16:19you to get up and go back to your corner, that's
- 1:16:21how much time you have in the corner. And then
- 1:16:24the fight resumes after a minute. And then the
- 1:16:28fight goes and goes and goes until you get a
- 1:16:31knockdown. That's crazy. Yeah. Prize rules. It
- 1:16:36was fucking wild. But that's it for this wild
- 1:16:43edition of Boxing Before Dark. And we'll see
- 1:16:47you on the other side of old piss jugs. Bye.
- 1:17:09Why should a boxing fan watch MMA? Okay, here's
- 1:17:15my pitch. The reason that a boxing fan would
- 1:17:20consider watching MMA in the year of our Lord,
- 1:17:222026, is that MMA is cheaper and more accessible
- 1:17:26than it's ever been in its lifetime. Our biggest
- 1:17:29organization, the UFC, has done away with pay
- 1:17:32-per -views. It's now just like a $15 a month
- 1:17:35payment to Paramount +, and you get... 40 plus
- 1:17:39fight cards a year um and it's not just the UFC
- 1:17:44you have organizations like 1FC and Ryzen that
- 1:17:47put stuff directly on YouTube for free to watch
- 1:17:50and you're able to see a wide variety of high
- 1:17:54level skills like this is not just like amateur
- 1:17:57or shit unless we're talking about the heavyweight
- 1:18:00division but boxing fans can relate to uh the
- 1:18:03gap of skill there um These are some of the most
- 1:18:06talented athletes in the world, and they're fighting,
- 1:18:09especially if I can point out the Muay Thai stuff
- 1:18:12that happens in 1FC. It's phenomenal. Another
- 1:18:16reason that a boxing fan would want this, would
- 1:18:19want to jump in now, is that I think unlike a
- 1:18:22lot of the cards you're used to watching in boxing,
- 1:18:24MMA cards are worth watching from the start.
- 1:18:29You don't have to wait until the co -main to
- 1:18:32see... something that isn't complete nerd shit
- 1:18:35most of the times you're seeing even if it's
- 1:18:38a lower skill uh feeling you're still seeing
- 1:18:42fights that are exciting and compelling to watch
- 1:18:45um we just came off the backs of UFC 327 and
- 1:18:49that card top to bottom was like absolutely stacked
- 1:18:52so great example you can watch the whole thing
- 1:18:56for you know in bits and pieces or from start
- 1:19:00to finish and paramount plus right now, if you
- 1:19:01subscribe, so paramount, give us some money.
- 1:19:04We're doing, doing marketing for you. So that
- 1:19:08would be my pitch. Perfect. If you do decide
- 1:19:10to give MMA a shot, then why don't you check
- 1:19:12out ultimate effing casuals? It's kind of the
- 1:19:15same format. We talked the fights that happened
- 1:19:17in the past weekend. Then the stuff coming up
- 1:19:19this weekend, give it a shot. It's ultimate effing
- 1:19:23casuals.
