- 0:45called the three keys to stay out of overwhelm and Thrive.
- 0:49The blueprint is available at my website, www.hiwayfx.com get it
- 0:56today so you can start to implement these tools that we
- 0:58can all learn And that's what the paws cast is all about.
- 1:07All right, so before we get into this world of connecting and
- 1:10networking, and questions and answers, let's go ahead and just
- 1:14close your eyes. Uncross your feet, uncross your
- 1:19legs. If it feels good to stand up, go
- 1:21for it. Wherever you are.
- 1:23Just allow yourself to settle into your space, just arriving.
- 1:30So important to transition into space and actual physical space
- 1:36and time so that you can be fully present for something.
- 1:41I'm just taking a deep breath in through your nose.
- 1:45Filling your lungs up. And exhaling.
- 1:49As if you were pushing that air out down through your lungs into
- 1:53your diaphragm and out through your legs, out through your feet
- 1:56into the floorboards. A couple more like that,
- 2:02inhaling up through your legs out allowing that breath.
- 2:04Imagine the breath to come up through your hips up and through
- 2:08your spine up to filling your lungs.
- 2:11Even going up as far as your crown of your head, as you pull
- 2:15that are upwards, maybe even tightening your muscles in your
- 2:19body. A little more holy than
- 2:24breathing in. And then allowing that are to go
- 2:28back down like releasing that breath in your body tells you to
- 2:32be ready. Exhaling out through again,
- 2:36through your legs out, down through your floorboards, A
- 2:41couple more on your own here. Go ahead and set an intention
- 2:47for this time. What do you want to get out of
- 2:50this time? This moment, these few moments.
- 2:55We share what? I learn something you want to
- 2:59walk away with something new to try.
- 3:04Are you just curious? It's all good.
- 3:08Does knowing what it is and sending, that means you're
- 3:11bringing your creative visualization, brain into the
- 3:15picture that will help bring this to bear and into life for
- 3:20you. A key skill.
- 3:23That is part of networking. By the way, we're going to talk
- 3:26about that. So, go ahead, open your eyes.
- 3:29If they were closed, maybe shake out your hands and your legs.
- 3:34Go to see the colors in the room.
- 3:37Notice how you feel. What in?
- 3:39Who is different here? What feels different for you?
- 3:44For me, I feel a little more settled.
- 3:49It feels really good. Okay.
- 3:52So today I'm excited to bring this topic in because I was
- 3:56thinking about what to share. It's the new year.
- 4:00I spent the last week at a conference thousands of people
- 4:04that JPMorgan Healthcare conference right here.
- 4:06In San Francisco. I was here on behalf of my other
- 4:08company. Sick Venture Studio starting to
- 4:11stand. For startup incubator company
- 4:14and we work with Healthcare venture.
- 4:18And we work with investors, we work with licensing, IP and
- 4:24Technology were primarily there to meet people because we're
- 4:29just started this business, my partner and I maybe I'll have
- 4:33him on the podcast one day. He's a trip Paul and we wanted
- 4:38to meet people because we started in August and this is a
- 4:40new field for me. He's been in health care for a
- 4:44while but I've been more on the tech side but been in mental
- 4:47health which is Part of what we help with, but we had a lot of
- 4:52things going on. We were, we were in different
- 4:54events. We had a lot of lunches set up.
- 4:56We had a party to host. So today, I thought the topic
- 4:59was very relevant on how to get the most out of meeting.
- 5:03New people and networking because this is the time when
- 5:06we're starting to go back to large, Gatherings corporate
- 5:10events and you might even be hosting one.
- 5:13Maybe have an internal team off-site or on-site.
- 5:16You have client on site, sir. Or offsites meetings.
- 5:19There's all kinds of things that are now getting formed in a way
- 5:22that we haven't had in a while. All right.
- 5:24So are you excited about that? Just think about that first.
- 5:26Well how is your body feeling as you hear this?
- 5:29Do you notice? What do you notice?
- 5:32That's the first thing because I think again remember it's really
- 5:36easy to go through the motions especially if we are thinking.
- 5:39Okay, let me just get through this dinner.
- 5:41Let me get through the five meetings I have today but to me
- 5:47this is a big One of the biggest issues, I think we have with
- 5:50overwhelming burnout. These days is when we get
- 5:52through them, when we get through stuff, quote unquote, if
- 5:55you're just thinking, okay? Like if I can just make it
- 5:57through till 7 p.m. tonight, and then head out, and I'll be able
- 6:00to relax them, you're missing the boat, you're missing the big
- 6:04boat because you're getting by, and all we're doing is literally
- 6:09suffering and struggling through it.
- 6:11First of all and we're also not present because we're in our
- 6:15heads thinking about when it's going to be over.
- 6:17So we're future tripping. And as Gabby Bernstein likes to
- 6:20say, and I've heard it a few times now referenced from
- 6:22others. And or we're thinking about like
- 6:26the past, like, oh, I wish I had not done this yesterday and and
- 6:29in my world that's how I burned out a Google, right.
- 6:31Like a my sense was I was never present.
- 6:33I'd let alone networking events, so why not be present challenge
- 6:38yourself to say, you know what, I am going to be here for us
- 6:41elves today, and I have three keys for you to follow.
- 6:45That will help you make your next event easier for you and
- 6:48not just easier, but more productive and more satisfying
- 6:52for you. So that you actually don't have
- 6:53to just get through it and go through the motions, but rather
- 6:57be intentional about it, which is that first key and enjoy it
- 7:02and actually benefit from, it will serve you.
- 7:05How cool would that be right? So the first step first key
- 7:09here, like I said, is setting an intention.
- 7:13So before you walk into that room or that event, What's your
- 7:16intention? And just five minutes ago.
- 7:18We were doing that in our own little meditation, but we were
- 7:22shifting, we are transitioning from whatever you were doing
- 7:25into this time and I asked you, what intention do you have for
- 7:29yourself? So the intention is it is
- 7:33literally to me a pause. So that is how I Define pausing
- 7:36by the way. In my book, pause it is an
- 7:38intentional shift in Behavior. So that's really, really
- 7:41important everybody because otherwise we can kind of really
- 7:44get easily sucked into autopilot.
- 7:45A pilot that robotic mode where things go unconscious really
- 7:50fast and doesn't mean you're not having any things out of it, you
- 7:54can still be productive. In fact, we can be really
- 7:55productive but we're kind of not fully vested if that makes
- 8:00sense. And we're not conscious, we're
- 8:01not we're not think using our thinking brain isn't as much as
- 8:04we could. So when we we get intentional
- 8:08we're actually signaling. Not just to ourselves but to
- 8:11even the higher purpose Universe versus were singling to For
- 8:16people because they're going to feel your presence.
- 8:19What do you want out of this time?
- 8:20It doesn't have to be a big deal either.
- 8:22So what's your next event coming up right?
- 8:24Think about it. If you've got a lunch Rendezvous
- 8:26today or tomorrow or maybe you've got a weekend plan maybe
- 8:31you've got something else going on.
- 8:33What's your intention? Is it just to be present?
- 8:35Maybe it's that maybe to meet three new key people that are
- 8:38prospects for you. If you're happy to be in the
- 8:40sales World, maybe it's to have a really engaging conversation
- 8:43and connect with someone one person.
- 8:45These are all options. So, setting intention allows you
- 8:48to go on the path that will get you to feeling aligned with what
- 8:53really matters to you. And if we don't do this again,
- 8:57it can end up - it doesn't mean it's not going to go.
- 8:59Well it just isn't going to be as fruitful for you potentially
- 9:03and I know for me when I said attention on anything it's like
- 9:06it's like 2x is 5X is 10x is what I get out of it and usually
- 9:11things happen that are go really really well.
- 9:15And that feels really good, right?
- 9:16So that's the first thing you've setting setting your intention
- 9:20and it won't take long but before you walk in that room and
- 9:23even if you walk in that room and you go, oh, I forgot to set
- 9:25an intention, set it as your walking, there's it's never too
- 9:28late, even if it's 10 minutes and you're like, oh crap, I
- 9:31forgot to send in touch it. Don't worry about it.
- 9:33Just set it now, right? That's the idea is, you can
- 9:35course correct as long as you bring your thinking brain
- 9:38online. All right?
- 9:39So that's the first thing. The second thing, No matter who
- 9:43you are watching, is to get curious, get curious.
- 9:48So what does that mean? Right.
- 9:49So what do you think that means for you?
- 9:52And it might be different for all of us.
- 9:53But my sense is if we allow ourselves to be naturally
- 9:57curious and bring that into the fold.
- 10:00So maybe you're noticing this tie that someone's wearing and
- 10:03it really just makes them look great.
- 10:07Why wouldn't you just compliment that person?
- 10:09But you know, I love you try. Thank you like.
- 10:12Thanks like, where'd you get it? You can thank them for wearing
- 10:15the tie but my guess is that would might be a little awkward.
- 10:17So you could, you could just say, hey, I like your tie,
- 10:20right. Whatever.
- 10:21That is so that there was probably something curiosity
- 10:24your curiosity, struck that allows you to notice it.
- 10:27And, you know, the there's nothing wrong with giving
- 10:31compliments, it's actually a way to connect with people, as long
- 10:33as they're genuine, Nick, you really felt it.
- 10:35Maybe the person has an accent. You're not sure where they're
- 10:37from. Where are you from?
- 10:39You know, like looking so curious.
- 10:41It sounds Like sound like you're from somewhere else.
- 10:44Where are you from? All right.
- 10:45You don't have to make any predetermined, judgments.
- 10:47We might have them, but you don't have to share them because
- 10:49then it allows them to be seen and connect again, right?
- 10:53So just be curious, it might be something they say and you can
- 10:56you not really sure what the heck they're talking about.
- 10:57Sheila. Can you explain that?
- 10:58Or what do you mean? Can you tell me more?
- 11:01That sounds interesting. I'm not sure I understand.
- 11:04Can you, can you share more, right?
- 11:06So, that, that requires potentially things like
- 11:08vulnerability. So when you're, when you're
- 11:10curious all of a sudden, you get, you get naturally
- 11:13stimulated, you get naturally engaged, meaning you want to
- 11:17know more your like, we're all curious beings.
- 11:19And if we allow ourselves to naturally allow that to perk up
- 11:23bubble up and share stuff, that means we're going to actually
- 11:26likely connect at a deeper level, will have more things to
- 11:30discuss and you'll feel more engaged in prison as a result.
- 11:36And then the other person will probably likewise feel that if
- 11:39If you're allowing that sometimes we have to be the
- 11:41space leaders in order for that to happen.
- 11:45Okay, so let's say you've got your event, whatever it is and
- 11:48again maybe it's not even an event with a lot of folks, it
- 11:51might just be a one-on-one conversation, that might be a an
- 11:55engagement, right? Doesn't need to be anything big,
- 11:57but I think it works for all of it, whether it's one-on-one or
- 12:01one-to-many. So, the third thing is
- 12:03follow-up. Okay, the fortune is in the
- 12:05follow-up. So I'm going to show you this.
- 12:08I at this conference, you know, here's here's what my follow-up
- 12:11looks like. This is my stack of cards that I
- 12:16have for folks to follow up with.
- 12:19And my recommendation is 24 to 48 hours amount a maximum of
- 12:25time. So within that time I invite you
- 12:28to follow up and prioritize. Maybe the top three people who
- 12:32really stood out to you. A lot of times, we're not even
- 12:35collecting cards anymore, and a lot of times we're just linking
- 12:38in with folks, LinkedIn, tends to be the platform for many of
- 12:42us. Us and that's okay.
- 12:44You can follow up on LinkedIn if you're already connected there,
- 12:48but the fortune is in the follow-up.
- 12:50So the key is, and we all kind of know this.
- 12:53I think I did, they level, is if we don't allow ourselves to
- 12:57reconnect soon then that time Hills, what was created an
- 13:02established, right? Just kind of fit into those out.
- 13:06So my two senses yeah, follow-up Fortune is in the follow-up, so
- 13:10connect and say, hey, great to meet you on LinkedIn, like,
- 13:14would you like to set up a call? It let's talk a little more
- 13:16about what we were discussing. Love to learn more.
- 13:18Here's my calendar link or something like that, it could be
- 13:22setting up a date. And I guess my tip for that is
- 13:26give it make it as easy as possible for the other person.
- 13:29How about Monday at 3 p.m. CEST, you know?
- 13:32So you have a you're allowing that person to literally just
- 13:34say yes. Then say, you know, if not,
- 13:37here's my calendar link but you give that you do the work on
- 13:39your end and try to make it as easy as possible for that person
- 13:43to connect with you. Alright.
- 13:45So that's it. You heard it here the three the
- 13:48three important keys for really successful networking.
- 13:53Now that we're back in person more and they don't exist
- 13:56doesn't even need to be in person.
- 13:56Maybe it's a zoom it could be a it could be virtual on Zoom or
- 14:01something like that as well. But I think now that we're in
- 14:02person it's just a good reminder of what and how to bring
- 14:07ourselves in as we and really get the most out of what we're
- 14:10doing because it's our time and since it's investing in our
- 14:12lives, we have bazillion other things.
- 14:15Each of us could be doing right before all corporate, Achievers.
- 14:18And highly successful, people that we got a lots of places we
- 14:21could be doing different things at and you chose to be at this
- 14:24particular event. So, why not do these three
- 14:27things? Number one, set, an intention.
- 14:28This is the recap set. An intention number to get
- 14:31curious. And keep, keep your.
- 14:33Curiosity and and three, follow-up within 24 to 48 hours.
- 14:37And a lot of times we know that, right?
- 14:39You might be like oh yeah yeah Rachel whatever I know this and
- 14:41I say this all the time because our cognitive knowledgeable
- 14:45brain does know this. But do you really implement it?
- 14:48Do you really bring your curiosity or you just trying to
- 14:51go through the motions? So that's where the rubber meets
- 14:53the road and that's the hard part because you're getting off
- 14:55of autopilot and that's the effort, it takes work, it's not
- 14:58easy but you know, your personality might really network
- 15:03with ease and I Awesome. So keep doing that.
- 15:05And maybe, maybe you're just not used to it because you've been
- 15:07in a two-and-a-half-year lockdown and covid X like most
- 15:11of us, All right. Well, I hope you enjoyed this
- 15:14episode and happy happy getting out there in this new year,
- 15:17whatever is on your agenda. And if you've been to a big
- 15:21conference or even an online one, and you wanted to share,
