[SPEAKER_02]: Now I get it, I know exactly what I'm taking an airplane towards, and I'm pretty delighted by it.

[SPEAKER_02]: It is the opposite of my, I mean, travel is my job, vacation is my full-time beat as a journalist.

[SPEAKER_02]: So this is so lovely because I couldn't tell you where the hotel is.

[SPEAKER_02]: If you like food, which I do, we now pick up food from a restaurant, which has been so clutch in recent years.

[SPEAKER_02]: A few years ago, we did do a sort of like pot-luck situation in LA, all different, like a bunch of different people cooked food.

[SPEAKER_02]: eating mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese for four days just like fully blissed out.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have a weird old oven from a zilly and years ago it barely fits anything.

[SPEAKER_02]: My brother and his wife are both surgeons so they don't have a lot of free time to be cooking but you know I've touched my brother's pizza.

[SPEAKER_02]: Like, listen, surgeons can cook, but we just simply, we pick up from restaurant, we all split it, it is fantastic, and I am very looking forward to it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I finally experienced Stars Hollow, the son of Gilmore Girls, as part of the Warner Brothers studio tour Hollywood's holiday theme editions last year, and it blew me away.

[SPEAKER_02]: If you listen to the podcast regularly and you follow me online, you're new and basically altered my brain chemistry to be sitting in my house, watching Gilmore Girls, only two about 20 minutes later, be checking in for my tram tour towards the actual set of the show.

[SPEAKER_02]: And what makes this star's hollow activation so special, is that there is nothing else like this anywhere.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the tour itself is already pretty freaking incredible.

[SPEAKER_02]: Now, they have this beautiful, purpose-built structure, which, of course, was designed by theme park people.

[SPEAKER_02]: Housing their really good gift shop, museum exhibits, interactive experiences, seasonal displays open in the public, and even a fancy Starbucks, because you can bring Starbucks on the tour.

[SPEAKER_02]: These days, as part of your tour, you visit multiple museum exhibits.

[SPEAKER_02]: You'll see some stages, you can sit on the Friends couch, you can tool around the lot endlessly on your tram, peaking its stars coming out of their trailers, and maybe even seeing a working monkey who is currently being used on a show.

[SPEAKER_02]: This really is the Hollywood that you were promised at a theme park, only it's real, and I can't recommend it enough.

[SPEAKER_02]: But during the holiday season, whoo baby for two and a half listful weeks, you can even more bang out of your buck because it's some productions whine down for the holidays, the tour ramps up.

[SPEAKER_02]: And included with all the admission, you get like, behind the scenes stories while on tour from films like Gremlins and Elf and National Lampoon's Christmas vacation.

[SPEAKER_02]: But while the Warner Bros. studio tour Hollywood is exceptional gear round, you're not just visiting a soundstage or a set from a sitcom or seeing how the crew creates these places we see on screen.

[SPEAKER_02]: I have been on the Warner Bros. studio to where Hollywood many times in my life because it truly has the repeatability is incredible.

[SPEAKER_02]: But the holiday additions to it blew my mind.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I met one young lady who was actually working, but she'd brought her laptop in and just she was like Roy, she just sat in the park and worked and experienced the town.

[SPEAKER_02]: at like 12 30 on the last day for that afternoon and we went and we just sat outside my friend Julie and I sat outside and chairs and just watched we just watched other people stood back and it really felt like a real town what you have done is extraordinary with this.

[SPEAKER_02]: For those of us who don't have regular office jobs, what exactly does that mean?

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I don't make commercials for Warner Bros.

[SPEAKER_03]: It just means that the part of the business for the tour that, you know, the food in beverage, the merchandise, the stores, and occasionally some events, like what we're talking about today holidays, make here.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, and you have done such a good job.

[SPEAKER_02]: Just over the past few years, the offerings on the tour have just escalated in such a beautiful way.

[SPEAKER_02]: It really has become a kind of a full day experience.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the tour since 2019, you know, it's really expanded in many ways, but adding the holidays made here a bit at the end of the year is just a cherry on the top of the Sunday soon.

[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so tell me a little bit about the history of bringing stars hollow to life as part of the more of other pseudo to Hollywood.

[SPEAKER_02]: What was the first time you did it and what was that experience like just giving it a shot.

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh gosh, it was I think it was 2018 and as we just talked about the tour has grown and we were all as a group talking about hits Christmas time coming up we don't have enough room for people to lunch and our cafe anymore what are we going to do and I remembered all the Gilmour girls fans and how they were

[SPEAKER_03]: wanting to visit Lordleys house and the Lordleys house was right around the corner from the final act of our tour.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so I had the silly idea, well why don't we just serve lunch in front of Lordleys house?

[SPEAKER_03]: And that's how it all started.

[SPEAKER_03]: It started as very simple, lunch at Lordleys and we had little picnic tables out in the front yard.

[SPEAKER_03]: And anyway, it turned into a bigger deal than we thought.

[SPEAKER_03]: It started out as a bowel for more seating and it turned into a little event kind of by accident.

[SPEAKER_03]: So from there, every year we added more, you know, the next year we added the gazebo, we added part of the street.

[SPEAKER_03]: And then by the time I got to 2022, it was like the entire town, adding music and so forth.

[SPEAKER_03]: I would say last year was even more, we really opened almost every store and restaurant and really brought it to life.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm absolutely floored that they just started as, why don't we just do lunch?

[SPEAKER_02]: And now it truly is, you're walking through multiple blocks of a city.

[SPEAKER_03]: So from what I've heard, you're giving the guess more and they ask for even more.

[SPEAKER_02]: From what I understand, this year is possibly the biggest and maybe to be seen as the best.

[SPEAKER_03]: by all means when you're at the 25th anniversary of Gilmour Girls, Rory and Louril, I started their adventures in 2000.

[SPEAKER_03]: So we are here 25 years later and what a great way to really make it the best we've ever done.

[SPEAKER_03]: We're opening additional sets, additional parts of the town that guests don't usually see adding entertainment.

[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a little scary to think about it because it's a lot of work.

[SPEAKER_03]: but we're really excited to see all the returning guests and see what they can experience.

[SPEAKER_02]: What kind of entertainment can people expect to see?

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we're going to have some old street light spectaculars at night.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, last year we did our tree lighting.

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my gosh, so many people are crying when it started to snow over the town, so that's at 5.30 and at 6.30 we're doing, for fans who remember that Luke and Laura lie when they danced for the first time to a song by Sam Phillips who did the score called Reflecting Light and we're going to recreate that moment for all the guests, so all the Luke's and all the Laura lies.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, I think this is a perfect anecdote, which you will probably laugh at, is that when a few of us went to one of

[SPEAKER_02]: Um, one of the studio tour days last year, I think right at the beginning when everything started, we were on the, you know, on the tram on the tour and just passing by extras from the pit, and it's just like this is real like people are covered in fake blood.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then we go to star's hollow like that is Warner Brothers studio studio to Hollywood.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's almost like a cliche.

[SPEAKER_03]: You're at a working-studied people are filming, but that's what's amazing.

[SPEAKER_03]: These are not built rooms to per a theme park.

[SPEAKER_03]: These are the actual sets where the actual filming is.

[SPEAKER_03]: When you go into Luke's a diner, this is where they actually filmed it, and you're walking in the same footsteps as Luke and Larly.

[SPEAKER_02]: How do you even accomplish something like this with your team?

[SPEAKER_02]: Because even if people were around filming, there's a lot of people on set, but not nearly the amount of people that would be walking through the diner as part of this event.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's funny, you know, Scott Patterson who played Luke was their last year and will be this year.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, we're really excited to have him.

[SPEAKER_03]: uh... he mentioned that it's even better during this event because you know when you're filming you're focusing on maybe one angle but when you're here at the event it's three sixty so we have to make sure all the lights are working and all the all the sets are decorated so it's a full experience even for him he was kind of blown away that he was actually in the town where's when what it's filming it's like a little tiny section yeah

[SPEAKER_02]: How do you have to know how difficult it is to prop out some of these locations because you're dealing not just with people experiencing it as guests, but also eagle-eyed fans who know what does and does not belong there.

[SPEAKER_03]: In fact, that's, you know, some of the changes we've done this year, you know, last year, we were missing a couple things that were really important to the fans.

[SPEAKER_02]: because I remember we would all look over and be like, oh, no, because you can basically, you haven't done this, which I have been telling everyone in my life to fly out to see this.

[SPEAKER_03]: If you're watching a show and there's water coming out of a sink, it's really not, it's somebody put a hose up to that and there's a bucket underneath.

[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah, I'd say the thing I'm most proud of is you know, we have a dragon flight in and we had T last year, but we're upscaling it's going to be reservations only and you can reserve the spots when you book your ticket and we'll have high T, we'll have the Emily Gilmore upgrade with some champagne and then you know Friday night dinners was a big part of the show when they would all go to the to see Mr. Mrs. Gilmore for dinner.
