- 2:18Speaker 1: Learned on my bike. Please welcome to Money Making Conversation
- 2:22Speaker 1: master Class. Karan, Joseph Riley. How you doing, Koran?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Thanks of love, Sean. How you doing, James?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Well? You know I I first of all thank you
- 2:30Speaker 1: for coming on Money Making Conversation master Class. You know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: this is a young brother that I'd like to believe
- 2:35Speaker 1: I mentor. You know, he calls me for advice and
- 2:37Speaker 1: I try to lead him down that path as an
- 2:39Speaker 1: older gentleman, because that's what mentorship. What role does mestership
- 2:44Speaker 1: mentorship plan in your life? Because I know I'm not
- 2:46Speaker 1: the only one that mentors your office advice when you
- 2:49Speaker 1: request it.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'll be honest with Shot. I haven't had a lot
- 2:53Speaker 2: of mentors in the entertainment world, as much as I
- 2:56Speaker 2: would love to have had. Right My first one, I
- 2:59Speaker 2: would have to say was great timing forward. He looked
- 3:01Speaker 2: out for me earlier in my career, gave me a
- 3:03Speaker 2: lot of great jews. I think mentorship is necessary, man,
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think it's part of the journey. I think if
- 3:09Speaker 2: you get any kind of any monochrome of success, it's
- 3:13Speaker 2: your responsibility to mentor somebody and pay it back for it.
- 3:16Speaker 2: That's what this book is. It's a mentorship to the
- 3:18Speaker 2: young black girl or the young black boy who didn't
- 3:21Speaker 2: grow up with a village like I had, like a
- 3:23Speaker 2: great coaching coaches, my dad, my brothers, my uncles, my friends.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I mean, I stand on so many shoulders, Rashaan, that
- 3:32Speaker 2: I can't take credit for any of this stuff.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Man.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I'm literally I'm literally living out the dreams of myself.
- 3:38Speaker 2: But I'm also living out on the field that people
- 3:40Speaker 2: put that people put in instilled into me.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Great' that's detailed, and so I want to introduce you
- 3:46Speaker 1: to my audience who are alive every Tuesday o w
- 3:51Speaker 1: c OK in Atlanta, Georgia, and give a little background
- 3:54Speaker 1: about you before we get into the book. Keep peddling
- 3:57Speaker 1: the things I learned on my bike, which I loved
- 3:59Speaker 1: the title. By the way, tell us a little background
- 4:01Speaker 1: about you.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Well born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Wanted to be
- 4:06Speaker 2: an actor since I was in the first grade, but
- 4:08Speaker 2: sports took over my life shortly there after that. So
- 4:11Speaker 2: I took that journey for as long as I could
- 4:13Speaker 2: take it. And after I retired from football, I jumped
- 4:17Speaker 2: back into my original dream and passion of becoming an actor.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Fast forward seventeen years.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Excuse me there, short change yourself. Professional football.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Okay, professional football in the NFL, in the NFL, NFLL.
- 4:37Speaker 2: That was my best part time job I ever had.
- 4:39Speaker 2: By the way, you know, I.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Could have said I retired from football and did they
- 4:44Speaker 1: even become close to playing high school football's saying I
- 4:47Speaker 1: would not let you say that. You're part of the
- 4:50Speaker 1: biggest sports franchise in the world today, most watched media
- 4:56Speaker 1: forum on television, and that's professional football. You in all America,
- 5:01Speaker 1: in college and so because the reason I say that
- 5:04Speaker 1: because I always step back when we talk about branding
- 5:07Speaker 1: on this show, and sometimes when we start telling that story,
- 5:11Speaker 1: we short change ourselves. Because the uniqueness of you is
- 5:15Speaker 1: because you are a chameleon. You're a person who's been
- 5:18Speaker 1: successful at so many different levels and athletics, academics, you know, acting,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you know, each one of those levels have a lot
- 5:29Speaker 1: of turn back in it. And that's where the conversation perseverance,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and that's why I brought up those perseverance, resilience, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: determination because in the things that you've become successful in, Karan,
- 5:42Speaker 1: a lot of people tell you no a lot of
- 5:44Speaker 1: people doubt you, A lot of people would question your dream.
- 5:49Speaker 1: How have you survived? Let's start with sports first.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I basically my mother, man. My mother instilled a unwavering
- 6:00Speaker 2: love and belief system in my in my spirit and
- 6:03Speaker 2: my soul. Man. So like all those nose that you
- 6:06Speaker 2: would get coming up as an athlete with all the doubts,
- 6:10Speaker 2: and athletics is not so much the nose as it
- 6:13Speaker 2: is in the acting game, because in athletics there is
- 6:15Speaker 2: a barometer that you can see immediately if a kid
- 6:20Speaker 2: has potential to be good or something. So it wasn't
- 6:22Speaker 2: so much nose in athletics. It was more like you said,
- 6:25Speaker 2: the naysayers, the dollters. You know, coming out of college,
- 6:30Speaker 2: you know, I was the all time sack leader in
- 6:31Speaker 2: the University of Minnesota history. Still to this day, I'm
- 6:34Speaker 2: the all time sack leader in the University of Minnesota's
- 6:36Speaker 2: history twenty some years later. Even then, coming out getting drafted,
- 6:41Speaker 2: every every everybody their their job is to find knocks,
- 6:44Speaker 2: bad things about your game, to not pay you what
- 6:47Speaker 2: you're warranted to be paid. So, you know, I went
- 6:51Speaker 2: through that whole journey of getting to the NFL, getting
- 6:53Speaker 2: drafted by the Chicago Bears in two thousand and one
- 6:55Speaker 2: draft in the fourth round. Now, if you look over
- 6:59Speaker 2: the course of the draft in the last twenty some
- 7:02Speaker 2: years and you take my stats against any other first
- 7:05Speaker 2: round defensive end past rushing linebacker for out of college stats,
- 7:10Speaker 2: I still have some of the best stats over the
- 7:13Speaker 2: last twenty years. That wasn't a first round draft pick,
- 7:15Speaker 2: So that says I should have been a first round
- 7:17Speaker 2: draft pick. But I dealt with that again that that
- 7:20Speaker 2: was probably my biggest hurdle coming into the NFL of
- 7:23Speaker 2: how to deal with adversity of like, man, I done bust,
- 7:26Speaker 2: my button, did everything right. I thought to really secure
- 7:30Speaker 2: myself and my family very lucrative payday with a first
- 7:34Speaker 2: round signing bonus, which would probably you know, change my
- 7:37Speaker 2: trajectory as a person at that point. But it didn't
- 7:41Speaker 2: go that way. You know, I got a decent sign
- 7:44Speaker 2: the bone. This was like three hundred and fifty thousand.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You know, that's nothing to you know, sniff at it
- 7:48Speaker 2: in two thousand and one. But again I was totally
- 7:52Speaker 2: undervalued based on my production. And I believe, and you
- 7:57Speaker 2: and I have talked about this, I believe it was
- 8:00Speaker 2: because of my sickle sale status as having to trade
- 8:02Speaker 2: as an athlete. I think that hurt me a little
- 8:04Speaker 2: bit as well, and also being more of an outspoken
- 8:07Speaker 2: athlete who didn't just fall in line with the status
- 8:10Speaker 2: quo as an athlete. I've never been that. I've always
- 8:13Speaker 2: been a free thinker and a leader, a leader of thought.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Please don't go anywhere, We'll be right back with more
- 8:20Speaker 3: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
- 8:30Speaker 3: Conversations Masterclass, hosted by Rashaan McDonald. Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 8:36Speaker 3: continues online at Moneymakingconversations dot com and follow money Making
- 8:41Speaker 3: Conversations Masterclass on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Wow, you know, I love the fact that you know
- 8:49Speaker 1: you're honest about the whole journey. But as an athlete,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and a lot of people don't know when to stop.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You know a lot of people working jobs right now
- 8:58Speaker 1: that they should walk away from and really evaluate the
- 9:00Speaker 1: next steps in their life. And so in athletics, and
- 9:03Speaker 1: when you are successful, you've been doing something so long
- 9:07Speaker 1: and sometimes it becomes easy and it becomes a pattern.
- 9:10Speaker 1: How did you know it was turned time to change
- 9:13Speaker 1: your career path?
- 9:16Speaker 2: But the NFL kind of lets, you know, you get
- 9:18Speaker 2: cut where I can kind of dictate when and where
- 9:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna you know, hang up my cleats. It was
- 9:28Speaker 2: one of those things. I was in Washington with the
- 9:30Speaker 2: Redskins and had a great preseason, but it wasn't great enough.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Obviously they had to signed another guy in my position
- 9:37Speaker 2: that at the same time they signed me as a
- 9:39Speaker 2: free agent, and they actually paid him a lot more
- 9:41Speaker 2: money to come in and play. So again, so it
- 9:44Speaker 2: always comes down to economics at the end of the day. Uh,
- 9:47Speaker 2: they had invested more money in his in his plan
- 9:49Speaker 2: and then invest in mind. So they let me go,
- 9:52Speaker 2: and at that point it was more relief for me
- 9:55Speaker 2: because I wasn't the kind of athlete like you said.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I wasn't a guy who was gonna keep from lying
- 10:00Speaker 2: at different cities and trying at my you know, trying
- 10:02Speaker 2: out for teams and you know, living out of a
- 10:05Speaker 2: suitcase for the next two or three years like a
- 10:06Speaker 2: lot of a lot of my peers did when they
- 10:08Speaker 2: were trying to hold onto the dream. Because I'll share
- 10:10Speaker 2: this with you, the NFL was never my dream. NFL
- 10:15Speaker 2: was was was my was like a mistress or in
- 10:18Speaker 2: a way or or a backup playing to the to
- 10:21Speaker 2: the main plan. My main plan was to go to
- 10:23Speaker 2: the NBA. And after I didn't grow to be six
- 10:26Speaker 2: six sixty seven like I thought I was, I made.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I just made an executive decision at the age of seventeen.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You know, they were like, you know, because I was
- 10:35Speaker 2: still was getting recruited for basketball. I was, I was
- 10:37Speaker 2: All State in basketball, so I was getting recruited for basketball.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But my dad was like, man, you know, I saw
- 10:43Speaker 2: Kevin Garnett play in the same summer I was deciding
- 10:46Speaker 2: what scholarship I was gonna take, and I realized that
- 10:48Speaker 2: the future of the NBA was not looking anything like me.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So I made. I made an executive decision and said,
- 10:54Speaker 2: you know what, I'm pretty good this football. I do
- 10:57Speaker 2: believe that I can make it to the NFL football
- 11:00Speaker 2: because again the numbers fifty three man roster versus twelve
- 11:03Speaker 2: man roster. My skill set transferring from being a great
- 11:07Speaker 2: basketball player translated to being a great pass rusher in
- 11:10Speaker 2: football because my speed, my quickness, and my footwork that
- 11:13Speaker 2: I was blessed with from basketball. So it was it
- 11:16Speaker 2: kind of made my story kind of created itself as
- 11:18Speaker 2: it was going one loss ended up proving to become
- 11:22Speaker 2: a win. And when I walked away from the game,
- 11:25Speaker 2: it was like I'm walking to my next play man,
- 11:27Speaker 2: which is my original plan was to be an actor.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And I went straight went straight to La and started
- 11:33Speaker 2: pursuing acting right away. Man. I literally went back to Atlanta,
- 11:35Speaker 2: packed my bag and got on a plane with La.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Wow. Now I keep peddling. That's the book. Were brought
- 11:40Speaker 1: you on the show to discuss things I've learned on
- 11:42Speaker 1: my bike. When did this whole concept of this book
- 11:46Speaker 1: come about? Was it something that? Is it something that?
- 11:49Speaker 1: Like I said, we all know our first experience on
- 11:51Speaker 1: the bike when I can remember my dad pushed me
- 11:53Speaker 1: and I was wabbling with the training wheels and I
- 11:56Speaker 1: remember when the training wheels come off. So I can
- 11:58Speaker 1: remember my experience in my life on a bike, especially
- 12:02Speaker 1: in my early years. You know, when I got older,
- 12:04Speaker 1: I give on the bike and I can't figure out
- 12:07Speaker 1: why I'm on it, but I know I had I
- 12:09Speaker 1: bought the bike, said I was gonna ride and never
- 12:11Speaker 1: wrote it for the years I've owned it. But I
- 12:13Speaker 1: do remember my experience on the bike. So why was
- 12:15Speaker 1: it important to name your book? Keep peddling things I
- 12:19Speaker 1: learned on my bike.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Well, the book started ten years ago and it started
- 12:25Speaker 2: off to become like a man law book, just young
- 12:28Speaker 2: men in general. It was a time about ten years
- 12:30Speaker 2: ago and I was starting to notice the pandemic going
- 12:33Speaker 2: on amongst our brothers. The pants sagging below the bud
- 12:36Speaker 2: and not having the ability to shake a man's hand
- 12:40Speaker 2: and look him in the eye, you know, simple things
- 12:42Speaker 2: that I saw that our culture was going down right,
- 12:45Speaker 2: But I need to write a book on man laws.
- 12:48Speaker 2: And eventually, as I started working on that, I started
- 12:51Speaker 2: realizing that I don't really have all the laws. I'm
- 12:56Speaker 2: just one man. And in the midst of that ten
- 12:59Speaker 2: years I started I created my key telling and my
- 13:02Speaker 2: key pelling in matra Own one of my bike rides
- 13:04Speaker 2: to Alabama, I do. I do a bike ride to
- 13:07Speaker 2: Alabama every year on my birthday. So as I'm riding Alabama.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Where do you start? You draw from Atlanta and bike
- 13:14Speaker 1: ride to Alabama.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah. I started Sandy Springs, Atlanta, and I arrived the
- 13:19Speaker 2: comments Silver Commissary all the way to Alabama and it's
- 13:21Speaker 2: about ninety eight miles one way, so it ends up
- 13:23Speaker 2: being about a two hundred mile two day trip. I
- 13:27Speaker 2: stay over night in the hotel in Jackson, Alabama, get
- 13:30Speaker 2: up the next day, and come back. So the day
- 13:31Speaker 2: coming back, the next day, coming back is what I
- 13:33Speaker 2: tell people. I get all of my spiritual and universal
- 13:37Speaker 2: downloads because I believe that as an athlete, some of
- 13:41Speaker 2: my spiritual gifts will come through my body. So me
- 13:45Speaker 2: getting to my body, to that physical point where I'm
- 13:48Speaker 2: completely exhausted and I gotta rely on my spirit and
- 13:51Speaker 2: my willpower to keep going, that's when I start getting
- 13:54Speaker 2: the blessings. So all of a sudden, I got this.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I got this thought, and this voice kept saying to me,
- 13:59Speaker 2: just keep no matter how long it takes, keep healing,
- 14:02Speaker 2: keep healing. It just kept saying it right, And I said, saying, man,
- 14:06Speaker 2: I've been doing this my whole life. Keep pealing thing,
- 14:09Speaker 2: ain't It's not just really all about being on this bike.
- 14:13Speaker 2: This is a This ride from Alabama is it's like
- 14:16Speaker 2: a It's my life. It's like a life journey for me.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So I came home and I designed the logo and
- 14:23Speaker 2: I told Terry and my wife, I said, look, I
- 14:25Speaker 2: had a vision, and this is gonna be the new,
- 14:27Speaker 2: my new, my new, my new manifesto of my life.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I've named it and and it's gonna be what precedes me.
- 14:35Speaker 2: If I came up with to key Healing and then
- 14:37Speaker 2: after that, man it, you know, I just kept building
- 14:40Speaker 2: on that, and again something came up and I needed
- 14:43Speaker 2: to do a speaking event, and they were like, we
- 14:45Speaker 2: want to come through the speaking event. What am I
- 14:46Speaker 2: gonna talk about? So I said, I broke down keep
- 14:49Speaker 2: Helling into an acronym, and then I broke down each letter,
- 14:53Speaker 2: what it meant to me, and how I've developed each
- 14:56Speaker 2: letter along the way, and how they all pay homage
- 14:59Speaker 2: to the next lets and it builds on something. And
- 15:01Speaker 2: once you master each letter of keep Peddling as an individual,
- 15:06Speaker 2: I guarantee you you're going to be a lot better
- 15:08Speaker 2: often where you found yourself before you've picked up Keep Peddling.
- 15:12Speaker 1: In the book, Wow Kuran. Before we go to break,
- 15:14Speaker 1: tell everybody how they can buy the book.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Www. Karan Joseholey dot com and anywhere all books are sold.
- 15:23Speaker 2: That means Barnes and Noble, Amazon, anywhere else. But I
- 15:26Speaker 2: always say this first and foremost. If you want my
- 15:29Speaker 2: signed autograph copy, you're ordered through Karan Joseraley dot com
- 15:34Speaker 2: everywhere else. You'll just get the book, and you'll have
- 15:37Speaker 2: the book and it's no love lost. But you won't
- 15:39Speaker 2: get to have my energy infused with the book, as
- 15:42Speaker 2: I will send you a positive note in my autograph
- 15:44Speaker 2: with it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: His book Keep Peddling is more than a self help book,
- 15:48Speaker 1: be ause a roadmap for navigating life's twists and turns
- 15:51Speaker 1: with grace and courage. You know I wanted I got
- 15:54Speaker 1: to go back to what you're staring on right now
- 15:56Speaker 1: because I watch it all the time. The Blackhamptons. Know
- 16:00Speaker 1: you said you said seven years old you wanted to act.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I would honestly tell you seven years old, my daddy
- 16:07Speaker 1: probably was thanking me because I was tearing up the room.
- 16:10Speaker 1: How does one I just want to see that. I
- 16:13Speaker 1: always I always marveled when I hear people tell me
- 16:16Speaker 1: they understand that vision, understand that this is what I
- 16:19Speaker 1: want to be at such a young age. Talk about that,
- 16:22Speaker 1: because I think that drives who you are today. And
- 16:24Speaker 1: I think people have children who see it too, but
- 16:27Speaker 1: they might dismiss their kids dreams.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Uh yeah, man. Again, I give credit to my mother
- 16:33Speaker 2: to always allow me to have that freedom to speak
- 16:35Speaker 2: my mind and encourage me to speak my mind and
- 16:39Speaker 2: and propicide my visions. So in the first grade, so
- 16:43Speaker 2: actually it was all younger than seven. Man, it was
- 16:45Speaker 2: actually I think six when I really came to the
- 16:48Speaker 2: I got the vision to be an actor. I was
- 16:49Speaker 2: playing Pussing Boots in a stay in a stage, playing
- 16:53Speaker 2: in element in school. And you know, you don't have
- 16:55Speaker 2: a lot of lines at that age, so I think
- 16:57Speaker 2: I delivered my line in the line was not I said,
- 17:01Speaker 2: the cat and my mother, my grandmother, everybody, like you know,
- 17:07Speaker 2: the women in my family were at they were at
- 17:08Speaker 2: the play, and my mom and them, they screamed so loud,
- 17:11Speaker 2: and cheers so loud, and sean in that very moment,
- 17:14Speaker 2: I was like, Yeah, I'm gonna do this forever. And
- 17:18Speaker 2: and shortly after that, Man, she had me performing everywhere
- 17:21Speaker 2: she could. Man, we be at the mall, She'd like,
- 17:23Speaker 2: do the Billy Jean. I would do the Michael Jackson
- 17:25Speaker 2: Billy Jeans dance. So I was a natural, A natural
- 17:28Speaker 2: ham in a way, I guess I didn't. I never
- 17:31Speaker 2: never shied away from a camera or an audience or
- 17:35Speaker 2: anything like that. So so I played sports. It was
- 17:38Speaker 2: no different than me. Man. I always usually had my
- 17:40Speaker 2: best games in the biggest game, and people were like, man,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you always come to play when it's really a big game.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I said, Yo, the stage the biggest and the bright
- 17:47Speaker 2: the lights of the brightest. Is time for me to
- 17:49Speaker 2: show up.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Baby, I'm just laughing, not I the cat, said the cat.
- 17:56Speaker 2: That was my line. Baby. So I say, I say
- 18:02Speaker 2: to encourage the kids and everything. And again, you know,
- 18:05Speaker 2: a lot of kids have the visions of what they
- 18:07Speaker 2: want to do and what they want to be for themselves.
- 18:09Speaker 2: But and then and a lot of kids don't. And
- 18:11Speaker 2: it's okay either way. But if you do. I'll tell
- 18:14Speaker 2: any parent that's listening that has young kids, if they
- 18:17Speaker 2: if they vocalize what they want to do early on,
- 18:20Speaker 2: please please please listen. Because when I believe as a child,
- 18:24Speaker 2: we are as close to our purpose of remembering our
- 18:26Speaker 2: purpose than we ever was. You know, as we get
- 18:29Speaker 2: older and we get you know, blindsided by the world's
- 18:32Speaker 2: blind spots, it's easy to forget what we came here
- 18:35Speaker 2: to do. And uh, I think you know, kids are
- 18:38Speaker 2: still in touch.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You know, one of the greatest gifts I've always known
- 18:41Speaker 1: about you, even when you didn't know me. There's always
- 18:44Speaker 1: always you know one thing about me. People always say
- 18:46Speaker 1: we're shiny. You seem to have your hands. You know,
- 18:49Speaker 1: people that don't even even they've never met you, But
- 18:52Speaker 1: you seem to impact people you've never met. And and
- 18:56Speaker 1: you understand the value of relationships. You understand and understand
- 19:01Speaker 1: how to connect the dots, and that led to your
- 19:03Speaker 1: role on The Black Black Hamptons. Can you tell everybody
- 19:06Speaker 1: about that?
- 19:07Speaker 2: Absolutely, man, Relationships. Networking is your network in this world.
- 19:12Speaker 2: If you you can have ten million degrees, you can
- 19:15Speaker 2: have ten millions uh be read ten million books. But
- 19:18Speaker 2: if you don't have any connections to anybody that can
- 19:21Speaker 2: help expand your web or your net around the world,
- 19:25Speaker 2: then it's all wasted knowledge. So to get how I
- 19:29Speaker 2: got my gig on The Black Hamptons was a relationship.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It's a simple relationship that started with a dinner and
- 19:35Speaker 2: a conversation with a really dope brother by the name
- 19:39Speaker 2: of Trey Haley. He is the director of All the
- 19:42Speaker 2: Black Hamptons, one of the co creators and producers of
- 19:46Speaker 2: Tridathin Films. And he and I just had a really
- 19:48Speaker 2: good night. Like you and I would sit down and
- 19:50Speaker 2: we have dinner, we'd talk and it was just that.
- 19:52Speaker 2: And fast forward like a year and a half, two
- 19:54Speaker 2: years later, I get a phone call on this trade. Hey, Karen,
- 19:57Speaker 2: I got this, I got this part, and I think
- 19:58Speaker 2: it's perfect to you. And you know, he broke it
- 20:01Speaker 2: down to me and he said, man, I would love
- 20:03Speaker 2: to offer this to you if you want to get
- 20:05Speaker 2: down with us. And long story short, bro it walked
- 20:08Speaker 2: onto something and it was. It was an amazing experience
- 20:11Speaker 2: with Nikki, Indy Indie and Carl Weber and those guys.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And Uh, I've been very blessed and fortunate along the
- 20:18Speaker 2: way to to have had a lot of success based
- 20:22Speaker 2: on just the sheer ability to be able to connect
- 20:25Speaker 2: with people. And thank god I had the talent to
- 20:28Speaker 2: back it up and and and the and the and
- 20:30Speaker 2: the stay and power to stay once I get the opportunity.
- 20:33Speaker 2: But like I said, man, the network, your network is
- 20:36Speaker 2: your net worth.
- 20:36Speaker 1: You know, when when I think about it, I'm talking
- 20:38Speaker 1: to Karan Joseph Ridley. He's the author of the book
- 20:41Speaker 1: Keep Paddling Things I Learned on my bike. Uh, you
- 20:44Speaker 1: are a bike rider and uh and uh, you know
- 20:48Speaker 1: you talk about ride a bike and I earlier in
- 20:51Speaker 1: my life I did, Uh, long distance running. And you know,
- 20:54Speaker 1: if you run for a while, you didn't get that pain.
- 20:57Speaker 1: You have to be able to run through that pain.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I'm sure you get it. You've gotten it on your
- 21:00Speaker 1: especially in those long trips. It's a pain. And once
- 21:02Speaker 1: you get through that pain, it's kind of like a
- 21:05Speaker 1: sense of uh for you. Yeah, and you and you,
- 21:09Speaker 1: and you start thinking differently. It's like a certain drug
- 21:12Speaker 1: body drug gets into you and relaxes you. And you go,
- 21:16Speaker 1: Where's where did that pain go? And and you know
- 21:19Speaker 1: the thing about because I've read your book, and you
- 21:21Speaker 1: know that I felt your book was very relaxing to me.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And tell everybody the importance of the book, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: like you said, it's a transformative book. It's more than
- 21:32Speaker 1: a self help book. But it also is a book
- 21:35Speaker 1: a tell all. And when I say tell all, not
- 21:37Speaker 1: from a standpoint of personal but to tell all about
- 21:41Speaker 1: what you can do and what you can become. It's transformative, correct.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Absolutely, And I've took it from a very very basic
- 21:49Speaker 2: fundamental of if I'm sitting down with a young brother
- 21:53Speaker 2: that looks like me or a young sister that looks
- 21:55Speaker 2: like me, and they're like Koran, I love the fact
- 21:58Speaker 2: that you mentioned and it fail. I love fact that
- 22:00Speaker 2: you're an actor. I love how did you do all
- 22:03Speaker 2: of those things? And how are you still aiming for
- 22:07Speaker 2: higher and higher plateaus? And I would say everything that's
- 22:11Speaker 2: in this book, I would tell him that, you know,
- 22:13Speaker 2: if I could tell them in one conversation, I would.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It would take a little while, but I could tell them,
- 22:17Speaker 2: and I say, look, man, I have a set of
- 22:19Speaker 2: rules and a set of morals that I stand on,
- 22:24Speaker 2: and those keep me safe from the human side of me,
- 22:27Speaker 2: which is the doubt, which is the fear, which is
- 22:31Speaker 2: the insecurity, which is which is all the things that
- 22:34Speaker 2: we all deal with. Right And I tell people all
- 22:37Speaker 2: the time, create a system for yourself, and that system
- 22:40Speaker 2: will protect you when the human side, if you tries
- 22:43Speaker 2: the rear is a little head. Because I believe in
- 22:46Speaker 2: walking in God's power, because God's power is within me,
- 22:50Speaker 2: and God's power tells me that I am I am
- 22:52Speaker 2: a creator of my life, and I am a creator
- 22:54Speaker 2: of all creation. So therefore whatever I see Raseean, I
- 22:58Speaker 2: can make it happen. But without that set of rules
- 23:01Speaker 2: in this this manifesto that I call keep heeling the
- 23:04Speaker 2: things I learned on my bike I would not be
- 23:08Speaker 2: able to make those things manifest.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Okay. We talked about your past athletic life, we talked
- 23:13Speaker 1: about you being an actor. We're also discussing on the
- 23:17Speaker 1: show keep Heeling things I've learned on my bike. But
- 23:19Speaker 1: as we close out the show your production company, talk
- 23:21Speaker 1: about that. Seconds now, he's trying to change lives from
- 23:24Speaker 1: a creative standpoint, talk about that as we close out
- 23:27Speaker 1: the show.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah, man, I created a production company Dedicated Prophecy with
- 23:31Speaker 2: my partners Lim Collins and Marcus Monroe. During the pandemic,
- 23:34Speaker 2: we were sitting around and we said, man, the world is
- 23:37Speaker 2: afraid and scared of his shadow. It's time for us
- 23:39Speaker 2: to make a move. We formed a company. We did
- 23:42Speaker 2: four productions in that time, real quick fast in her
- 23:45Speaker 2: just to put our feet in the ground. And there's
- 23:47Speaker 2: nothing more fulfilling than being able to a produce my
- 23:51Speaker 2: own work show what I can do as an actor
- 23:54Speaker 2: on my own, in my own terms and control my
- 23:57Speaker 2: own narratives. But the biggest gift I find would produce
- 24:00Speaker 2: in doing that is being able to give another actor
- 24:02Speaker 2: that's right behind me or another another opportunity for them
- 24:06Speaker 2: to shine, for them to have freedom, for them to
- 24:09Speaker 2: do their thing, and then for one day along their journey,
- 24:11Speaker 2: they might look up twenty thirty years from now. I'm
- 24:13Speaker 2: the man. Karan gave me an opportunity, but nobody else
- 24:16Speaker 2: gave me an opportunity. Or he gave me an opportunity
- 24:18Speaker 2: when I needed an opportunity because I was doulling myself.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And I believe that's my ministry, that's my purpose, is
- 24:24Speaker 2: to spread spread the positive energy and show my people
- 24:27Speaker 2: the way through collective building and resources.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Love it, love it. We're speaking to Karan. His book.
- 24:35Speaker 1: He encouraged the importance of perseverance, resilience and determination. Tell
- 24:40Speaker 1: us again how we can buy that book.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Kuran www dot Koran Josephreilly dot com. That's my website.
- 24:49Speaker 2: You can go on. It's about three clicks and you'll
- 24:51Speaker 2: have the book. And also I will autograph that book,
- 24:54Speaker 2: sign it, send you a positive noe to affirmation and

- 25:02Speaker 2: the website, you can go through Amazon or any other

- 25:07Speaker 1: Thank you, Karen for taking the time to tell your story. Man.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It's very motivating and I appreciate any time I talk
- 25:13Speaker 1: to you because you do inspire me. Man, You do
- 25:15Speaker 1: make me think about other ways that I can look
- 25:17Speaker 1: at how I get up in the morning, in value
- 25:20Speaker 1: my hours in the day. Because I know you out
- 25:22Speaker 1: there peddling.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Brother, I am man, I am brother. I thank you
