- 2:37Speaker 1: talk show host, and fitness competitor. The last time she
- 2:40Speaker 1: was on the show, we discussed her new book, The
- 2:43Speaker 1: Weight is over Weight being spelled w E I g
- 2:47Speaker 1: h T is a compelling and triumphant journey towards self
- 2:50Speaker 1: love and discovery, and she tells us about her battles
- 2:53Speaker 1: with body image that started adolescents and carried throughout her
- 2:56Speaker 1: music career. Well, she is now a fitness competitor, talk
- 3:00Speaker 1: show co host, and he has and she has a
- 3:02Speaker 1: new single, Well You're gonna We're gonna talk about the
- 3:04Speaker 1: very top of this interview called Woman. Please welcome back
- 3:08Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversation, my girl, Selena Johnson. I'm doing
- 3:15Speaker 1: fantastic and thank you for taking the time to come
- 3:17Speaker 1: on the show to provide new content for people who
- 3:21Speaker 1: are stuck at home or just listening and just really
- 3:24Speaker 1: providing inspiration because you are an inspiration, Selena. Now just
- 3:28Speaker 1: talk about the video. Just how prepared for my shows, Lena,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I always like within the twenty four hour period to
- 3:35Speaker 1: the interview, always start gathering all my information so everything
- 3:38Speaker 1: is really fresh. So the music video Woman, which I've
- 3:42Speaker 1: seen three times now because the lyrics, I kept hearing
- 3:45Speaker 1: the lyrics about what a woman would do and what
- 3:47Speaker 1: a man gets away with, you know, a woman giving
- 3:50Speaker 1: a good advice and a man a lot. You know
- 3:55Speaker 1: so so I said, so so being a man that
- 3:58Speaker 1: was raised by one with six sis. Just my father
- 4:01Speaker 1: stayed in my life, but I had six sisters who
- 4:03Speaker 1: are impacted my life. The importance of I'm looking at
- 4:06Speaker 1: this video. You start out the front top of the
- 4:09Speaker 1: video or just with this black outfit on and then
- 4:12Speaker 1: you're walking down it's kind of gangster style, but it's
- 4:16Speaker 1: but it's motivated because it's empowering talk about the the
- 4:19Speaker 1: idea of this this video, the concept, because it's definitely
- 4:23Speaker 1: a wart up. First of all, it's it's two things.
- 4:25Speaker 1: It's a much watch video and it's a much listened
- 4:28Speaker 1: to video because the lyrics tell an amazing story about
- 4:33Speaker 1: overcoming the art. But the video is pro today. Tell
- 4:38Speaker 1: us about it, Selenda johsph Well, the video was next
- 4:43Speaker 1: to Look, um, everything is very symbolic. It's not that
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's not little so like when you think of the lyrics,
- 4:52Speaker 1: uh tell lies like a man not necessarily, Um, Men
- 4:57Speaker 1: all men lives, you know, because they don't from what
- 5:00Speaker 1: but what it does, what it is significant to is
- 5:05Speaker 1: our nation and how we have a president that live,
- 5:08Speaker 1: you know, and how there are so many male leader,
- 5:11Speaker 1: male leading politicians and men in legislation, you know, because
- 5:16Speaker 1: men actually kind of run the world. You know what
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm saying. They're they're the most in power. They just
- 5:21Speaker 1: paid the most for the same jobs that women do.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And they lie, you know what I'm saying. They like
- 5:28Speaker 1: to keep those positions. A lot of times men have
- 5:30Speaker 1: their lives to stay in power, you know. I mean,
- 5:33Speaker 1: so how lies like a man is anonymous to that concept? Um? Uh,
- 5:40Speaker 1: sacrifice like a woman. We always sacrifice, were always sacrificing
- 5:44Speaker 1: our drings and goes because of children. So that's that's
- 5:47Speaker 1: the running story, you know what I'm saying. And so
- 5:51Speaker 1: the militant um look is comes from the Black Panthers
- 5:56Speaker 1: because in the Black Panther movement, um, they were trying
- 5:59Speaker 1: to you find their strength in their their colors, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: which is we're not really literally the color black, but
- 6:08Speaker 1: that's the name of our races, you know, that was
- 6:10Speaker 1: the name of our race black. She's like white people
- 6:12Speaker 1: are not literally white, but we were given the name
- 6:16Speaker 1: of black because of course that that if you think
- 6:19Speaker 1: of the what's traditionary terms, it means void um of
- 6:23Speaker 1: no color of no. Well we're the total opposite of that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Actually it's confidentary because these kind a lot to call
- 6:30Speaker 1: us code that's actually weird. But it was the Black
- 6:35Speaker 1: sensors era, was them taking charge of that name and
- 6:41Speaker 1: making it something strong, you know, so us taking it,
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, so for the woman we took a hold
- 6:49Speaker 1: of the look of that was to take a hold
- 6:52Speaker 1: of what we're being, um stereotyped as and trying to
- 6:58Speaker 1: take and and and coming together you know, women coming
- 7:02Speaker 1: together organizing to be I'll tell you something, Ms Johnson, Um,
- 7:11Speaker 1: I was not offended by the lyrics just being honest
- 7:13Speaker 1: because I'm a man and I know how I have
- 7:16Speaker 1: to I have to bluff my way through deals. I've
- 7:19Speaker 1: had to be a person that some people thought I
- 7:21Speaker 1: was that I knew I wasn't, but that didn't tell
- 7:23Speaker 1: me I should stop seeing the opportunity. What you're talking
- 7:27Speaker 1: about is dad Sometimes, you know, I want to just
- 7:31Speaker 1: come out right. Sometimes women have a higher standard than
- 7:34Speaker 1: men in business and they shouldn't because of the fact
- 7:38Speaker 1: that men will do what it takes to close the deal.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And that is there, that's a clear understanding. You know,
- 7:46Speaker 1: that's where the term poker face came from. Being able
- 7:49Speaker 1: to look at somebody. Men they're encouraged to do that
- 7:56Speaker 1: to do so women are normally penalized for being all
- 8:01Speaker 1: then we're called or or or what is what is
- 8:03Speaker 1: views at strengths you know with man lines or when
- 8:06Speaker 1: a man closes a deal or you know, just like
- 8:09Speaker 1: the story of Madam C. J. Walker, she had to
- 8:12Speaker 1: go through sacrificing her made her husband just completely just
- 8:16Speaker 1: lost control and just kind of went the whole of
- 8:18Speaker 1: the directions simply because she was so determined and so
- 8:21Speaker 1: focused and so strong instead of being her help me
- 8:25Speaker 1: like the Bible says, you know, and because women are viewed,
- 8:30Speaker 1: especially during that time, they had guessed that they had
- 8:32Speaker 1: just been allowed to vote, So to tom being a
- 8:37Speaker 1: predicament where where a woman is constantly focused and driven
- 8:42Speaker 1: and trying to accomplish a goal, that's uncomfortable for men,
- 8:45Speaker 1: especially if especially if they're they're also trying to get
- 8:50Speaker 1: to that same thing and they're not getting there quick enough.
- 8:53Speaker 1: So that's why I loved the story of Madame C. J.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Walker because even when she got on that stage and
- 8:58Speaker 1: um crossed over book or tee officer and he took
- 9:01Speaker 1: her in the back, he said, men need to do
- 9:03Speaker 1: it first. And unfortunately, that is a real mentality that
- 9:07Speaker 1: still isn't the five today, which is why a lot
- 9:10Speaker 1: of women, why it's so hard for women to get ahead,
- 9:12Speaker 1: which is why we don't get paid as much as men.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You know, there's no reason why we should not be
- 9:17Speaker 1: all getting paid the same for the same work. There's
- 9:20Speaker 1: no reason for it, and there's no excute for it.
- 9:23Speaker 1: But it's still going, it's still happening today. It really is.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And I, like I said, that's why I wanted to
- 9:29Speaker 1: start the interview with the music video woman that I'm
- 9:32Speaker 1: talking to a Grammy nominated artists UH talk show co
- 9:35Speaker 1: host Selenda Johnson straight out of Chicago, that there was
- 9:39Speaker 1: another lyric that really was piqued my interroewers got to
- 9:42Speaker 1: think like a woman, take advantage like a man. And
- 9:46Speaker 1: that's what we're talking about. You we started out with
- 9:48Speaker 1: they gotta think like a woman, but a lot like
- 9:50Speaker 1: a man that came across that may come across like
- 9:52Speaker 1: men just live like we're just trying to put men down.
- 9:55Speaker 1: We're just talking about business. We're talking about how do
- 9:58Speaker 1: you negotiate, how you how you maneuver or navigate the relationship.
- 10:02Speaker 1: A lot of people call that negotiations. Okay, we'll see
- 10:06Speaker 1: I say things like a woman because you know, there's
- 10:09Speaker 1: a book and no shade to the body. But I
- 10:12Speaker 1: don't agree with the title of his book. Thinks like
- 10:14Speaker 1: a man, act like a lady. That's the very myth
- 10:17Speaker 1: that that that is the very concept that perpetuates um
- 10:22Speaker 1: this entire mentality. Now I understand where he's coming, but
- 10:30Speaker 1: it's still perpelled that title perpetuates what it is acting
- 10:34Speaker 1: like exactly. Somebody gives me the actual, uh, the actual
- 10:40Speaker 1: directions of acting like that. Okay, so that already is
- 10:44Speaker 1: a post. Think like a woman in most times in households,
- 10:50Speaker 1: in most times, and I won't say all, the woman
- 10:53Speaker 1: is the one doing the most thinking. All the man
- 10:56Speaker 1: has to do is go out, get get a job,
- 10:59Speaker 1: bring the money. That and the woman did eat it up.
- 11:02Speaker 1: She's inside figuring out all the little things. How the
- 11:06Speaker 1: woman's how whole, what kind of what kind of foods
- 11:09Speaker 1: the kids should go to? What are their meals? What's
- 11:11Speaker 1: gonna what is everybody going to eat? Not only that,
- 11:14Speaker 1: the inside of the house, outside of the house, honey,
- 11:17Speaker 1: don't forget to call the garden. You don't forget to
- 11:19Speaker 1: do this. So we get she's the one doing all
- 11:21Speaker 1: the things, and she's the one telling him how to
- 11:23Speaker 1: navigate on every other thing. Now, of course, when he
- 11:26Speaker 1: gets into business he has to be very independent, and
- 11:29Speaker 1: as far as that's concerned, when he gets into his
- 11:31Speaker 1: job life, but as far as everything else, he has
- 11:34Speaker 1: to come home and have a discussion what's sorry about
- 11:36Speaker 1: which jobs to have? He has to come home like
- 11:39Speaker 1: when you're married, it's a whole thing. And the woman
- 11:41Speaker 1: does a lot of the things that also when a
- 11:43Speaker 1: woman says, he also said with a piece of emotion
- 11:47Speaker 1: that men should because their emotion is in business. I
- 11:50Speaker 1: get it twisted. Emotion is in business. It's just how
- 11:54Speaker 1: that emotion is allocated and distribute. You can't be overly emotional,
- 11:58Speaker 1: but there has to be some type of passionate connection
- 12:01Speaker 1: because the things that you're that you're trying to sail
- 12:04Speaker 1: by or expand when it comes to business, it's just
- 12:07Speaker 1: it's it's just the way, it's just the way it is.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Emotional is not all I'm crying in a meeting. That's
- 12:12Speaker 1: not an emotional is about. But she's it's let's say
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're you're you're a cult representative, but and you really
- 12:19Speaker 1: like the way the way that cold takes. Not just um,
- 12:24Speaker 1: you're just selling a product, surely emotionally attached to the
- 12:27Speaker 1: way that it takes or the way that it makes
- 12:30Speaker 1: you feel. So now you're able to tell it even
- 12:33Speaker 1: better because now there's an emotional attachment. Attachment, there's an
- 12:38Speaker 1: emotional attachment, there's a passion that is behind it that
- 12:41Speaker 1: allows you to keep driving. Just like Madam c. J.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Walker Again, I like to go to her story. She
- 12:45Speaker 1: really was a father. She was she really was a
- 12:48Speaker 1: clone as her own father. She's like just stuff work,
- 12:51Speaker 1: So she's able to really push this father because of
- 12:54Speaker 1: the amstal attachment and the passiveness she's out behind it.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So um, I feel like a men men too in business,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and nowadays we're learning more on how to balance our
- 13:05Speaker 1: emotions and our business mindset. Some of us are more emotional,
- 13:09Speaker 1: which makes it less productive. But then we have men
- 13:11Speaker 1: out there that are emotional and you don't get criticized
- 13:15Speaker 1: for that. Don't get criticized for that, which is really key.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And we will yet. And I'm talking to Selenda Johnson.
- 13:22Speaker 1: A new album empowers and calls all women to stand
- 13:25Speaker 1: up for themselves and to be bold, brave and fearless.
- 13:28Speaker 1: You know, when I say those things, let's let's dig
- 13:31Speaker 1: a little deeper in that comment being bold, because you know,
- 13:34Speaker 1: when women are perceived to aggressive, to be word of
- 13:37Speaker 1: pop out, okay, and that's that's a negative which which
- 13:42Speaker 1: diminishes their intelligence, which the men can diminish their ability
- 13:47Speaker 1: to negotiate, which can diminish their ability ability to lead.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Because the perception that women should be in their place,
- 13:55Speaker 1: women should do certain things. Women shouldn't fight in the military.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Women should lead corporations. You know, we talked about in
- 14:02Speaker 1: eighteen six and four when Martin Luther King delivered that
- 14:06Speaker 1: I have a dream speech. But remember this, that's not
- 14:10Speaker 1: that far away. And women are just not fighting for
- 14:12Speaker 1: their rights to be able to speak and be recognized,
- 14:16Speaker 1: and it's still a big deal when they lead a
- 14:17Speaker 1: major corporation, Like, Okay, you know the thing about me
- 14:21Speaker 1: that bothers me is that Why is it that we
- 14:26Speaker 1: think I'm talking about in society in general, women are
- 14:31Speaker 1: physically adored but mentally challenged. Yep, And that's what we
- 14:39Speaker 1: were born with, less of a brain. And let's go
- 14:43Speaker 1: back to the sixties, the nineteen three but equal pay
- 14:48Speaker 1: acts paths. So why we're still not getting the same
- 14:53Speaker 1: equal pay right, right, So that's an issue. More and
- 14:58Speaker 1: more women are having to be in your moms, More
- 15:01Speaker 1: and more women are having to lead corporations. More and
- 15:03Speaker 1: more women are becoming unsupremours because of the lack of fathershood.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And not by fourth I mean not by not by
- 15:10Speaker 1: um they're not being fathers. Not all men are not
- 15:14Speaker 1: lacking father father their father duties because of their personality.
- 15:19Speaker 1: A lot of our men are being taken by the system.
- 15:22Speaker 1: A lot of our men, of them are you know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: um uh, there's other things that are takes that are
- 15:28Speaker 1: taking them away from their household, from the household and
- 15:31Speaker 1: creating families. So a lot of women are single moms, okay,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and so now they are less to be mom and dead.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So if that's the case, imagine she goes on to
- 15:44Speaker 1: the workplace to do a job that a man who
- 15:45Speaker 1: is supposed to be, you know, if you want to
- 15:47Speaker 1: be you know, theoretically quote unquote a man is supposed
- 15:51Speaker 1: to do theoretically because I don't believe in that anymore.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Either that the man has to go out and either
- 15:58Speaker 1: you know, men can men can be the homemakers as well.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I know many more are excellent. Father We hold it
- 16:07Speaker 1: down and that is a job within itself. And let
- 16:09Speaker 1: me tell you a job that is at times harder
- 16:12Speaker 1: than going out and once in the mind to side. Absolutely,
- 16:14Speaker 1: empowering women period, especially women of color is important because
- 16:19Speaker 1: there's a tier level to what we see in life.
- 16:22Speaker 1: You know, we have color restrictions of color discrimination. So
- 16:25Speaker 1: you're already knocked down there, then you get into the
- 16:30Speaker 1: male and the female agenda, You're already gonna get knocked
- 16:32Speaker 1: down there because women have got to fight that they're
- 16:35Speaker 1: equal for equal pay, equal physicality. I can do the
- 16:39Speaker 1: same job you can do. Yes, there are some things
- 16:41Speaker 1: that there are some boxes I can pick up there
- 16:43Speaker 1: the woman can't pick up. But there's also some equipment
- 16:45Speaker 1: that you can buy that can make or pick up
- 16:46Speaker 1: and we'll be equal. Okay, so let's understand that the
- 16:50Speaker 1: parameters are making things equal are available today. Now. The
- 16:54Speaker 1: thing about her is that when I when I first
- 16:56Speaker 1: brought on the show, it was about her new book,
- 16:58Speaker 1: The Wait is over Weight in w E I G
- 17:01Speaker 1: H T. I mean, there's an issue that a lot
- 17:03Speaker 1: of women today deal with body image. What's what's what's acceptable?
- 17:08Speaker 1: What's what? How should I look when I woke up
- 17:10Speaker 1: in the morning. Should I be jumping on the scale
- 17:13Speaker 1: on the daily basis? Should I be worried about how
- 17:15Speaker 1: my clothes fit me? Should I be what's my wardrobe? What?
- 17:18Speaker 1: What what men like me? If I'm a side swell
- 17:21Speaker 1: versus a size six with men like me, If I'm
- 17:24Speaker 1: wearing charge Kurts or pants with men like me, if
- 17:27Speaker 1: I if I if I am light skinning the dark
- 17:30Speaker 1: skinning my hair straight up, my hair is curly. That's
- 17:32Speaker 1: what images that we play out every day in our community,
- 17:37Speaker 1: whether you white, black, Latino, but more importantly we're talking
- 17:41Speaker 1: about black right now because of the fact that I
- 17:43Speaker 1: lived that every day, I've lived it all my life.
- 17:46Speaker 1: To Lenda Johnson has lived that all the life. She
- 17:48Speaker 1: writes about it in her book. She's very athletic. When
- 17:51Speaker 1: she was growing up, she was a little bit, as
- 17:53Speaker 1: she says, big for her size, so people treated are different.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And because she wore a certain type of clothes he was,
- 18:00Speaker 1: she was reprimanded for that because people thought she was
- 18:02Speaker 1: trying to be too much more than her age should
- 18:05Speaker 1: allow her to be. So let's talk about that part
- 18:08Speaker 1: of how your your body image affected you as an
- 18:12Speaker 1: adolescents all the way through your music career as well
- 18:15Speaker 1: as today where you're now a fitness competitor. I am
- 18:23Speaker 1: five ten, so already five ten is the height of
- 18:27Speaker 1: most the average man. And you know, and you know
- 18:32Speaker 1: what I'm saying, five pen maybe been five ten and
- 18:35Speaker 1: six two is an average man. So you're already coming in,
- 18:39Speaker 1: you already challenging my space right now, you're challenge in
- 18:42Speaker 1: my space right now, having I'm already, but i'd like
- 18:49Speaker 1: to tex let's the text feeding over. I'm a po
- 18:52Speaker 1: okay so mostly and that that short man complix so
- 18:57Speaker 1: men do not care. Right, here's the thing that I
- 19:02Speaker 1: want to say about body image, and you know, women
- 19:06Speaker 1: with the whole um, the whole philosophy of if I'm
- 19:11Speaker 1: besides too, I can't get a meant if I'm as
- 19:12Speaker 1: fear of, I can't get in. You know that whole thing.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I think that that has now become a woman woman problem.
- 19:20Speaker 1: That is not now yet man my men, they have
- 19:22Speaker 1: started it back in the day, but I think that
- 19:25Speaker 1: women have taken it on to become a bigger problem.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I think that women don't know what a man wants anymore,
- 19:32Speaker 1: and I think they're guessing because and this is my opinion,
- 19:36Speaker 1: and you tell me correct me if I'm off. I
- 19:38Speaker 1: don't think that men are running around on a day
- 19:41Speaker 1: to day basis looking for a certain look in certain side.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I don't think all men are doing that. I think
- 19:47Speaker 1: most of the time men the woman that believes in them.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I think that's the number one thing for a man.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Do you believe in me, Can I depend on you? Yes,
- 19:57Speaker 1: Men are visually attracted of course there you know, that's
- 20:01Speaker 1: just the type of being they are, so you have
- 20:03Speaker 1: to be usually attractive to them. But that's women too.
- 20:06Speaker 1: You have these digitally attractive to me as well, not
- 20:09Speaker 1: as much as a man, because we like power, we
- 20:11Speaker 1: like flags. So you don't have to be the finest
- 20:14Speaker 1: man on the street. But if you're successful and you're
- 20:17Speaker 1: a fighter, and you look like you can take care
- 20:20Speaker 1: of your family and all of that, and you're dependable
- 20:22Speaker 1: and loyal, we like those concepts. I think that women
- 20:25Speaker 1: have driven themselves in saying by the type of behind
- 20:30Speaker 1: the the imagery that has been put out there by
- 20:32Speaker 1: society and puts in media. That is what has driven
- 20:36Speaker 1: the the the ideology of that we have to be
- 20:40Speaker 1: this certain size and certain way to get a man.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I have beautiful friends who have amazing bodies, who are
- 20:47Speaker 1: smart and capable for a single let me say that again,
- 20:52Speaker 1: tons of them, or I'm talking about models, model like
- 20:56Speaker 1: or single and and most of the reasons for that
- 20:59Speaker 1: is because they're independent. And some of some men out here,
- 21:04Speaker 1: um are they shy away some independence because that independence
- 21:08Speaker 1: is normally passive to this the process of I don't
- 21:13Speaker 1: leave no man or no man wants to be with
- 21:15Speaker 1: a woman that feels that he doesn't need but he's
- 21:17Speaker 1: not needed by her. And and that's just the truth.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Speak to you. That's why I laughed. That's where I laughed.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's part of it's part of his man who still leading.
- 21:28Speaker 1: He wants to know that I am successful in taking
- 21:31Speaker 1: care if I have the goods to take care of women.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I want to know that I can take care of
- 21:34Speaker 1: her unless she's a free cysset of it, and that
- 21:36Speaker 1: she can take care of me in the terms. And
- 21:39Speaker 1: a lot of women are not submissive enough. Um. And
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying they have to be walking around their
- 21:44Speaker 1: head jail down, but they have to be able to
- 21:46Speaker 1: submit in a way to their man that um that
- 21:50Speaker 1: lends to a face for them to work together. Meaning
- 21:54Speaker 1: if a woman is in a is in a situation
- 21:56Speaker 1: where a man is leading, let me leave and don't
- 21:59Speaker 1: try to step in all the time. You know what
- 22:01Speaker 1: I'm saying. So some women are not. Some independent women
- 22:05Speaker 1: have the era of I have been doing it so long,
- 22:08Speaker 1: I don't need you to come in and help me.
- 22:09Speaker 1: So now they're used to doing it so long as
- 22:11Speaker 1: by themselves that it's harder for them to let down
- 22:14Speaker 1: their guards, to have to allow a man to come
- 22:16Speaker 1: in and love on them and take over, because it's
- 22:19Speaker 1: not it's not about their side and look anymore. It's
- 22:23Speaker 1: more more about attitude. Let me let me comment on that, because,
- 22:26Speaker 1: first of all, I agree with everything you're saying. Okay.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Is the reason I say that because of the fact
- 22:32Speaker 1: that the problem starts in the very beginning. It's called communication.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Make sure that person is looking at you because you
- 22:39Speaker 1: look good to them, It's gonna communicate with you the
- 22:43Speaker 1: way you want to be communicated with. Okay. Now, if
- 22:46Speaker 1: you start your relationship and it's physical, I swear to you,
- 22:50Speaker 1: it's gonna end bad or it's not gonna end the
- 22:52Speaker 1: way you wanted to end of a relationship that is
- 22:56Speaker 1: physical in the beginning, you've lost. You've lost the whole.
- 23:00Speaker 1: What I want to do with my life, what I'm
- 23:02Speaker 1: looking for in a man long term, what I why.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I think all that has been thrown away. So so
- 23:08Speaker 1: if you if you drive your relationships and tied to sex,
- 23:12Speaker 1: got a problem. Now with that being said, I always
- 23:17Speaker 1: tell people that you know I'm attracted to women who
- 23:22Speaker 1: tell me they have goals, tell me they have dreams,
- 23:25Speaker 1: that that are thinkers I really have. If you, if you,
- 23:28Speaker 1: if you, if you can compete with me mentally, then
- 23:32Speaker 1: I'm I'm excited that just rue Sean McDonald talking, because
- 23:35Speaker 1: I always like that. I always like to wake up
- 23:37Speaker 1: and have a different conversation. And like I told tell people,
- 23:39Speaker 1: I always like to learn some things. I like to
- 23:41Speaker 1: learn some things from my partner. I like to be
- 23:43Speaker 1: challenged by my partner and information. And that's all you're
- 23:46Speaker 1: saying right now, That's all you're saying. But also as
- 23:49Speaker 1: a man, I have to feel a physical role in
- 23:52Speaker 1: the relationship. And you know that means that if it's dark,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I go and answer the door, I hear noise, I
- 23:59Speaker 1: get up and listen to no I can't tell my wife, hey, babe,
- 24:02Speaker 1: is as why don't you go look on and look
- 24:04Speaker 1: at it and find out what's going on? Now we've
- 24:07Speaker 1: already changed, the rules have been changed. You know, there
- 24:11Speaker 1: are certain things from a from a physical from a
- 24:13Speaker 1: from a physical characteristics, you have to maintain security. But
- 24:18Speaker 1: from a standpoint of women, listen to me and listen
- 24:21Speaker 1: to Selena all we're saying is this. You have to
- 24:26Speaker 1: have standards. You have to say, Look, it's not about
- 24:29Speaker 1: the image all the time, it's about what I want.
- 24:32Speaker 1: If a man does not, in that openest statement, deliver
- 24:36Speaker 1: information to you that you want to hear about you
- 24:41Speaker 1: other than your looks, you're gonna have a problem. You're
- 24:44Speaker 1: going to have a problem. I swear that you're gonna
- 24:46Speaker 1: have a problem. And it's not gonna end good. That's
- 24:48Speaker 1: all you're saying. And that's all you said, send in
- 24:51Speaker 1: your book the way it's over. Look, I've been having
- 24:54Speaker 1: body image problems since I was at Listens and they've
- 24:57Speaker 1: carried all throughout music career. Then I realized it's bigger
- 25:00Speaker 1: in that it ain't so much about the image. It's
- 25:02Speaker 1: about how we think and how we allow people to
- 25:05Speaker 1: bring that bad thoughts into our lives. They're bad standards
- 25:09Speaker 1: into our lives, and we don't challenge them as women.
- 25:15Speaker 1: That's all you're saying. Yeah, I said, it's all in
- 25:17Speaker 1: the mind. Start's all in the mind. And when you
- 25:19Speaker 1: change the thing, can you change your whole life. Let's
- 25:22Speaker 1: talk about this fitness competition of this brand. You know,
- 25:26Speaker 1: I always knew you had the fitness line, the finness
- 25:28Speaker 1: concept of Finnish branding. But what what what got you
- 25:31Speaker 1: into the competitive state of fitness. I've always wanted to compete.
- 25:39Speaker 1: It wasn't until um I turned you know, reported too,
- 25:44Speaker 1: and I just said, you know, how long are you
- 25:47Speaker 1: going to put this off? How long are you gonna
- 25:49Speaker 1: set this aside? How long are you going to keep
- 25:52Speaker 1: um uh, convincing yourself that you can't do it? And
- 25:56Speaker 1: the truth is, it's a birding sensation. It's something that
- 25:59Speaker 1: you been wanting to do. I've been wanting to do
- 26:02Speaker 1: it since I was twenty years old, and I just
- 26:06Speaker 1: never thought I had the time. I never thought I
- 26:08Speaker 1: had the discipline. And I wanted to see if if
- 26:11Speaker 1: that was the truth. And so I said, you know what,
- 26:14Speaker 1: We're gonna just try. I mean, the reason why I'm
- 26:17Speaker 1: able to trappings and the reason why I accomplished a
- 26:21Speaker 1: lot of stuff in my life, even if certain things
- 26:24Speaker 1: I can't control, but I accomplished my goals, like little
- 26:27Speaker 1: goals here and then because I tried. You know, it's
- 26:31Speaker 1: really I just tried now. And I'm also not afraid
- 26:35Speaker 1: to say it. I'm not afraid to say that I
- 26:38Speaker 1: don't like failure. But I can't be afraid to sail
- 26:42Speaker 1: if I'm gonna cause but I've already been failure once.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I tried. So just so happy that when I tried,
- 26:49Speaker 1: you know, I I usually make it, and so this
- 26:52Speaker 1: time I tried. It took me, you know a long time,
- 26:55Speaker 1: because I wanted the injuries and things of that nation.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Of course, the devil doesn't want you to get the
- 26:58Speaker 1: way you need to go. But you you have when
- 27:01Speaker 1: you recognize that, that's what time it is that the
- 27:03Speaker 1: enemy is always you know, he's seeking to devour at
- 27:06Speaker 1: all at all at all areas. Then you can you
- 27:10Speaker 1: can play, you can play fall a certain points. So
- 27:13Speaker 1: I just said, you know what, I'm gonna get it.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna get a professional all the tools I needed.
- 27:19Speaker 1: It was very difficult and costly, but it was it
- 27:23Speaker 1: was rewarding. My life has changed forever. I am now
- 27:26Speaker 1: a fitness competitor. I'm training for my next competition. Obviously
- 27:30Speaker 1: it was pushed because it is silv the um you
- 27:34Speaker 1: know two pandemic. Yeah, but um the new day is
- 27:39Speaker 1: obvious twenty nine. But that's he had it. Why have
- 27:41Speaker 1: more times to profess the body that I want? So
- 27:44Speaker 1: I just have to keep working, keep art, and it's
- 27:46Speaker 1: always fun because I already love fitness. I'm already into it.
- 27:50Speaker 1: There's something that I do every day, do anyway, and
- 27:52Speaker 1: it it fulfills that competitive is that already lives in me,
- 27:56Speaker 1: and I'm not able to fulfill on a day to
- 27:58Speaker 1: day basis. And you don't compete again others. You're competing
- 28:01Speaker 1: against yourself, which is super fun and in the deal
- 28:04Speaker 1: character and teaches you so much about yourself. And you know,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I I really being that. You're a former athlete, basketball star,
- 28:11Speaker 1: tennant star from high school. And I always tell people
- 28:14Speaker 1: sometimes you have to look in your past to plan
- 28:17Speaker 1: your greatness, and being a young athlete. You just replicating
- 28:21Speaker 1: that as a fitness competitor now. And so you're not
- 28:25Speaker 1: You're not doing anything that was strange. You just heard.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You just finally committed to the voice that you always
- 28:31Speaker 1: was hearing in your head. Do it, dude. I don't
- 28:34Speaker 1: have time. I'm too busy, I'm dating man, I'm moving
- 28:39Speaker 1: to another city. I'm on the road. But that voice
- 28:42Speaker 1: always said, You've always been an athlete. You always just
- 28:45Speaker 1: always drove you. And I think it's important that you
- 28:48Speaker 1: remind people. This is part of your story, so people
- 28:51Speaker 1: won't think it's a fad of think it's something that
- 28:53Speaker 1: you just thought. You just do because you just was
- 28:56Speaker 1: wanted to do it. Because you Selena Johns, you do
- 28:58Speaker 1: anything you want. It's not about get list. It's not
- 29:00Speaker 1: a bucket list item. It's an actual things that I've
- 29:04Speaker 1: been wanting to do. Yes, it's part long time. Yeah,
- 29:09Speaker 1: it's hell on somebody, you know. And I'm so glad
- 29:15Speaker 1: you said that because a lot of times when celebrities
- 29:19Speaker 1: do something or it's because I'm a I'm a singer.
- 29:22Speaker 1: If I do something that's outside of singing, then that's
- 29:26Speaker 1: just on the side. It's to be able to do
- 29:31Speaker 1: three things and be glad at all of them. Love it.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Don't believe in themselves. Most people are one to mention on.
- 29:38Speaker 1: They don't believe that they can be more than one thing. Well, Celeny,
- 29:41Speaker 1: you know, I'm a fan. I'm so glad we took
- 29:43Speaker 1: the time to get together again to talk about the
- 29:46Speaker 1: single woman, to talk about you, your evolution as a
- 29:49Speaker 1: not only as a as a physical presence, but a
- 29:52Speaker 1: motivational force because that's what you are. You can see
- 29:54Speaker 1: her on a daily basis of Sister Circle, which is
- 29:57Speaker 1: on a TV one daytime talk show. She's one of
- 29:59Speaker 1: the co holes is yes, she is five foot teen.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I've stood next to and within while I'm standing next
- 30:04Speaker 1: to a woman. That's all. That's all i'd say when
- 30:06Speaker 1: I stood next to where I did show I'm standing
- 30:08Speaker 1: next to a real woman. And the fact that your
- 30:10Speaker 1: single is called woman. I feel blessed because I saw one,
- 30:13Speaker 1: I met one, and you are one. Selena. Stay strong, Okay,
- 30:16Speaker 1: thank you, Thank you so much, you too, and be

- 32:31Speaker 1: UM known a long time. She's always been an inspiration

- 32:41Speaker 1: at different UH African American festivals around the country, especially Essence.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I know she did a lot of things with the

- 32:50Speaker 1: my good friend in the Miami area, and more importantly,
- 32:53Speaker 1: she is a friend named by Urban Influence magazine as
- 32:56Speaker 1: one of the twenty hottest influencers in America. My next
- 33:00Speaker 1: cast as an author, entertainment executive, and celebrity financial coach
- 33:05Speaker 1: who uses a quick wit and she's funny and humorous
- 33:07Speaker 1: presentation style to help others face their money issues and
- 33:10Speaker 1: achieve personal, professional, and spiritual harmony. The Richardson Finance Group
- 33:15Speaker 1: provides a wide range of wealth and tax planning strategies
- 33:18Speaker 1: to help you create generational wealth. Please welcome back to
- 33:21Speaker 1: money making Conversations, my friend Landon Richardson. Hello, Hello, Hello,
- 33:27Speaker 1: thank you so much for seawan. Mr McDonald's for everything
- 33:31Speaker 1: you're doing. You know the title of your show is
- 33:34Speaker 1: so appropriate. If it's not a money making conversation, what
- 33:38Speaker 1: kind of conversation is right? You know? I always tell
- 33:41Speaker 1: people when people would call me and then they would
- 33:43Speaker 1: start asking me questions about what I'm doing, I'll go,
- 33:46Speaker 1: hold on, hold on, holdo. You called me? Why Why
- 33:50Speaker 1: am I answering questions about what I'm doing? And you
- 33:52Speaker 1: call me? Please tell me why you called Please, let's
- 33:57Speaker 1: let's start this all over again, because I know what
- 33:59Speaker 1: Rishaan was doing and and people will laugh at me,
- 34:03Speaker 1: and they were till you talk like that, the people.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I say, yes, I'm sitting in my house not doing anything,
- 34:08Speaker 1: or at the job or rolling in the streets. You
- 34:10Speaker 1: called me. The first thing you cannot do to me,
- 34:13Speaker 1: landing and say what you're doing, man, what's up? That's right,
- 34:17Speaker 1: that's like problem out problem. And so that's why I'm
- 34:21Speaker 1: wanting to making conversations is based on information because when
- 34:25Speaker 1: you're listening, hopefully I give you a breakdown on opportunity
- 34:29Speaker 1: to grow your thoughts and also your values because we
- 34:32Speaker 1: all know Landing, you know, what people think of you
- 34:36Speaker 1: is what they're willing to pay. What people think of
- 34:38Speaker 1: you is how they're willing to how they will talk
- 34:40Speaker 1: to you. That is a big part of your whole grant.
- 34:43Speaker 1: And when you talk about brand, we talk about generational wealth. Correct,
- 34:47Speaker 1: that's right, we're talking about generational wealth. We're talking about
- 34:51Speaker 1: making literally money making conversations. And you said something in
- 34:55Speaker 1: your intro that it's not all about the money. But
- 34:58Speaker 1: at the end of the day, we do need money
- 35:00Speaker 1: to survive. Money is like oxygen. You gotta have it.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And so whether that conversation be about improving your own life,
- 35:07Speaker 1: improving your own mind, um, hitting the reset button button.
- 35:11Speaker 1: And that's what I feel like this season is Rashan.
- 35:15Speaker 1: We we sat down with our planning meeting third quarter,
- 35:18Speaker 1: fourth quarter of planning for redoubled our goals in January
- 35:24Speaker 1: redoubled our goals in February, and now, considering everything that's
- 35:28Speaker 1: happening right now, we have quadrupled our goals in March.
- 35:32Speaker 1: So I want people to understand that that sometimes what
- 35:35Speaker 1: looks like a problem is actually a blessing. This is
- 35:39Speaker 1: a time to think. This is the time to strategize.
- 35:41Speaker 1: This is a time to hit the reset button. This
- 35:45Speaker 1: is a time to collaborate. But more importantly, this is
- 35:48Speaker 1: a time to to go up. To go up, I
- 35:52Speaker 1: have one of the most significant UH movements happening right now.
- 35:58Speaker 1: We have so many UH working family, single moms with
- 36:02Speaker 1: children who are at home. And so what I am
- 36:05Speaker 1: encouraging people to do is to term school at home
- 36:09Speaker 1: and to a home based business because your children, see there,
- 36:13Speaker 1: said so. A lady called me and she asked me.
- 36:15Speaker 1: She said, Lynn, I just had to buy paper. You know,
- 36:18Speaker 1: these children are eating all day that in the refrigerator
- 36:20Speaker 1: all day long. They only get one meal and two
- 36:22Speaker 1: snacks to school, but when they get home they want
- 36:24Speaker 1: to eat all day she said. She said, I have
- 36:27Speaker 1: to buy a computer. She said, can I write it off?
- 36:30Speaker 1: I said, no, you can't. I said, however, if you
- 36:32Speaker 1: had a home based business, you could hire your child
- 36:35Speaker 1: to work in your home based business. Now, when you
- 36:37Speaker 1: buy that computer, it's a tax right off. Now when
- 36:40Speaker 1: you buy the food in the snacks and whatever it else,
- 36:43Speaker 1: whatever else it is. So I have published, uh, my
- 36:46Speaker 1: greatest book ever. It's my first job, a kids guide
- 36:51Speaker 1: to money and entrepreneurship. And while these children are at
- 36:55Speaker 1: home with parents, this is the time to connect, to
- 36:57Speaker 1: get back to the basics, to go back to a
- 37:00Speaker 1: big mama and them talking about but also to build
- 37:03Speaker 1: wealth and to create a legacy for ourselves as a community. Well,
- 37:07Speaker 1: you know it's so important. I'm gonna going to the
- 37:09Speaker 1: front party or conversation. We started talking about when times
- 37:13Speaker 1: are harder times or crisis, you have to become a
- 37:17Speaker 1: thinker and not a person burdened by the crisis. And listen,
- 37:20Speaker 1: I'm thinking of like a person who who makes money.
- 37:23Speaker 1: When people see the stock market go down, there's a
- 37:26Speaker 1: group of people out there are happy. They're happy because
- 37:31Speaker 1: they're about to invest. At what you might consider a
- 37:35Speaker 1: bad time, they see it as an opportune time. Now
- 37:39Speaker 1: here's something that Donald Trump did. As soon as they
- 37:42Speaker 1: all got low, he bought all to refill the reserve fields. See,
- 37:50Speaker 1: that's how people with money think, you know, they understand
- 37:54Speaker 1: that they may be losing, but they also see the
- 37:56Speaker 1: potential gains. And so what we do people who don't
- 38:00Speaker 1: have money, or people who are always feeling bad when
- 38:03Speaker 1: times go bad, we should our mope. We don't. We're
- 38:06Speaker 1: not planners, were not dreamers do We not go oriented people.
- 38:11Speaker 1: And that really disturbs me. And that's why I always
- 38:14Speaker 1: enjoy bringing you on my show, because you are planning.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Like you said, Look, Roshan, you know you can. You
- 38:19Speaker 1: can create a home business, but you gotta be consistent
- 38:22Speaker 1: with that plan. You can't just create it for one month.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Just stop now, hold up, now, that's right, you have
- 38:28Speaker 1: to keep going. I feel like Jeremiah in the Bible.
- 38:31Speaker 1: You know he kept telling the children of Israel, listen,
- 38:34Speaker 1: do this, through this, through that. Then when everything was
- 38:37Speaker 1: obsolete and destitute, the land was bleak. You know that
- 38:40Speaker 1: that spenture I have planned to prost you or not
- 38:42Speaker 1: to harm you, plans to give you hope in the future.
- 38:45Speaker 1: That was at a time when everything seemed like it
- 38:48Speaker 1: was gone, all the riches were gone. People had to stop,
- 38:51Speaker 1: they had to rebuild. We are in that time now
- 38:54Speaker 1: and and Rishan. You know when I released the book,
- 38:57Speaker 1: you were one of my first stops. I have been
- 38:59Speaker 1: telling to fupled to get a home based business. I
- 39:02Speaker 1: have been saying it for twelve years. I feel like
- 39:04Speaker 1: I just want to run outside and screen, but I
- 39:06Speaker 1: can't go nowhere. So yeah, hey they over there, don't
- 39:14Speaker 1: don't look at don't even I told people, don't even
- 39:16Speaker 1: blow me a kids. Okay, right over there, bove me
- 39:19Speaker 1: a kids. But this is the time. See here's what
- 39:23Speaker 1: people also need to understand. What sean The world will
- 39:26Speaker 1: never go back to the way it was because now
- 39:29Speaker 1: corporation and the in in the world, the universe understands
- 39:33Speaker 1: that we can continue to move without people moving. Do
- 39:37Speaker 1: you hear me? Without people moving? So do you think
- 39:41Speaker 1: people are going to Everybody's just gonna go back and
- 39:44Speaker 1: get their jobs. You're gonna go back to the hustle
- 39:46Speaker 1: and buffalo. I have to be honest. I was feeling
- 39:48Speaker 1: a little strange because it seems are moving, emails flying,
- 39:53Speaker 1: nobody sits down. Now everybody has to sit down. So
- 39:56Speaker 1: now is the time to establish a home based business,
- 39:59Speaker 1: not only so you can get more money, but when
- 40:02Speaker 1: you have a home based business, it's the only way
- 40:04Speaker 1: to get your money back. You have four hundred seventy
- 40:07Speaker 1: five packs productions. So this is to me, this is
- 40:11Speaker 1: a blessing. And I say, God does not promote powders.
- 40:15Speaker 1: God don't promote powders. So the situation that you're in now,
- 40:19Speaker 1: you might as well smile because you can't change it, absolutely,
- 40:22Speaker 1: change absolutely you know the things. You know. The thing
- 40:25Speaker 1: about it that when you're talking land that I always
- 40:28Speaker 1: hone in on this, the consistency of your tone. But
- 40:31Speaker 1: more importantly, let's let's get personal by Rashan. When the
- 40:34Speaker 1: crisis hid, you know I didn't. I was confused. You know,
- 40:38Speaker 1: how do I how do I deal with my employees?
- 40:40Speaker 1: Will they be effective working from home? You know, because
- 40:44Speaker 1: I can't monitor anymore. You know they come in at eight.
- 40:47Speaker 1: I know they don't walk through the door eight. I
- 40:49Speaker 1: know they are the eight when they come when they
- 40:51Speaker 1: when they at five, I know when they leave it five.
- 40:54Speaker 1: I got all that, But what are they doing between
- 40:56Speaker 1: eight and five? Because I can't see him anymore. Well,
- 40:58Speaker 1: I have zoom, I do zoom meetings in the morning.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I have deadlines that got if you met through email
- 41:03Speaker 1: communication and have a zoom meeting in the afternoon. That way,
- 41:07Speaker 1: I have a working relationship with my staff. So, like
- 41:10Speaker 1: you said, things are gonna change for the good and
- 41:13Speaker 1: the bad. The bad means that you have to make
- 41:15Speaker 1: the adjustment, meaning you to employ you, or you to
- 41:17Speaker 1: employ you or the supervisor. But the good is that
- 41:20Speaker 1: you can continue to get effective work responsibilities out of
- 41:23Speaker 1: your employee employer employees that you have on a daily
- 41:26Speaker 1: basis if you have a plan. And this is all
- 41:28Speaker 1: about having the plan correctly. And yeah, this is all
- 41:31Speaker 1: about having a planet. And what you just said is
- 41:34Speaker 1: so key because you, like many entrepreneurs and executives and
- 41:39Speaker 1: CEOs and people who have staff. I said to everyone,
- 41:42Speaker 1: to all my colleagues that said, listen, this is the
- 41:45Speaker 1: time to go in deep. This is the time to
- 41:47Speaker 1: capture their attention. This is the time to really coach,
- 41:50Speaker 1: to coach our team. And we have to inspect what
- 41:53Speaker 1: we expect. You got to inspect what you expect. And
- 41:56Speaker 1: there's no better way to do it with people. Because see,
- 41:59Speaker 1: now we've have more productivity. There's no commuting. They don't
- 42:02Speaker 1: have to get in the car, they don't have to rush,
- 42:04Speaker 1: take a run and take a shall will jump in
- 42:06Speaker 1: the car they get to you, they are settled there
- 42:08Speaker 1: at home. So I love what you're doing, and I
- 42:11Speaker 1: love the fact that you said you're building more better
- 42:14Speaker 1: relationships with your staff because this when when we come
- 42:18Speaker 1: out of this, there's gonna be a significant change. But
- 42:21Speaker 1: the number one thing I'm saying is start a home
- 42:24Speaker 1: based business. I have a home based business webinar. I'm
- 42:27Speaker 1: doing it almost every day of the week because it's
- 42:29Speaker 1: five easy steps. You don't have to file anything, you
- 42:32Speaker 1: don't have to go anywhere, you don't have to go
- 42:34Speaker 1: tell anybody. There's five basic steps to start a home
- 42:37Speaker 1: based business, and anyone can have one within the first
- 42:41Speaker 1: ten minutes of the webinar. And then the second thing
- 42:44Speaker 1: is to live so significantly below your means. People are
- 42:48Speaker 1: concerned about their monthly payments. And what I'm telling everybody
- 42:53Speaker 1: is the first list all of your creditors, every last
- 42:55Speaker 1: one of them, Netflix and everybody, every single person that
- 42:59Speaker 1: you pay miss. The second column, list the amount that
- 43:02Speaker 1: you owe. Now, third column list the total balance. Let's do,
- 43:06Speaker 1: and then the fourth column the dody. Once you have
- 43:08Speaker 1: all of that, go down the list, call each one
- 43:11Speaker 1: of your creditor, asks what do they have in place
- 43:15Speaker 1: in response to the lack of work and income due
- 43:18Speaker 1: to the pandemic. If they have a three month extension
- 43:21Speaker 1: of four month extension, take it. I'm telling everyone to
- 43:24Speaker 1: take the extension, even if you can pay. And let
- 43:27Speaker 1: me tell you why, because you need to stack your dollars.
- 43:31Speaker 1: You need to put as much money to the side
- 43:33Speaker 1: as you can because we don't know the long term
- 43:36Speaker 1: effects of it. We don't know what's gonna happen now.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And those stimulus checks, those similar checks are not enough
- 43:44Speaker 1: to live on. Those stimulus checks are enough to buy
- 43:47Speaker 1: lightsol hand white, uh, math and food. Get mad. I told,
- 43:59Speaker 1: I said, lever, say you if you want to simulate me,
- 44:01Speaker 1: I need a few more zeros on my check. Okay,
- 44:04Speaker 1: that's what will simulate me. I need three more zeros
- 44:09Speaker 1: and then I will be simulated. So we have to
- 44:12Speaker 1: start thinking and we have to start planning now. Don't
- 44:16Speaker 1: take advantage, don't get the three months extension, and then
- 44:19Speaker 1: go shopping online because nobody can really deliver anything anyway.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Be smart, and then Rashan, you're gonna love this. American
- 44:27Speaker 1: Express bank, American Express Online. You can go online, google it.
- 44:32Speaker 1: They have a savings account with the one point seven
- 44:34Speaker 1: five percent interest rate. Oh wow, I am accepting all
- 44:37Speaker 1: this god giving information that people have and I'm being
- 44:41Speaker 1: blessed to receive it, and I want you to be
- 44:43Speaker 1: received by it as well and be a person who
- 44:46Speaker 1: takes it all in just like me. You know, I
- 44:48Speaker 1: had to get on a start right there because a
- 44:50Speaker 1: lot of people, you know, they always see you, they
- 44:52Speaker 1: see an evil to a tone. They see a different
- 44:54Speaker 1: message than what I'm trying to deliver or what other
- 44:57Speaker 1: people try to deliver. We try to reach out and help,
- 44:59Speaker 1: and it really can fusing me because a lot of
- 45:00Speaker 1: people spend more time blocking than receiving. Is that correct.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Let me tell you this is a time to be open.
- 45:09Speaker 1: This is the time to be open to change. No blockers,
- 45:12Speaker 1: no naysayers, no haters, no crap lrel barrel pullers. You
- 45:17Speaker 1: know that they're just out there. If anybody is holding
- 45:21Speaker 1: you back, pushing you down, you need to kind of
- 45:23Speaker 1: just push that to the side. Don't even give it
- 45:25Speaker 1: any energy. Don't get angry, don't get upset. You know,
- 45:28Speaker 1: I talked about the five f that will keep everybody
- 45:31Speaker 1: broke Rashaan. The first F is feeling when feelings get involved,
- 45:35Speaker 1: bad decisions followed. Uh, then you got Then you've got families,
- 45:39Speaker 1: and you love your family, but sometimes you do things
- 45:41Speaker 1: out of guilt that you're not supposed to do with
- 45:43Speaker 1: your family. And then your friends, you're still hanging around
- 45:46Speaker 1: the same friends that you played with when you were
- 45:48Speaker 1: five years old and and and they're not moving in
- 45:51Speaker 1: the same direction. Doesn't mean you're in the friendship. But
- 45:53Speaker 1: if you have nine broke frands, you're gonna be number ten,
- 45:56Speaker 1: so you need a new network. And then the next
- 45:59Speaker 1: f is food. Uh, we're spending a third of our check.
- 46:02Speaker 1: A lot of people are sending me their budgets and
- 46:04Speaker 1: they're sending a third of their take on pain on
- 46:06Speaker 1: food and the fact, so it's a problem there too.
- 46:10Speaker 1: And then the final ethos fun. I say, when you
- 46:12Speaker 1: are broke, if you're trying to rebuild, you shouldn't be
- 46:15Speaker 1: having any fun. Now you should have keith, but fun
- 46:18Speaker 1: if you're kicking it every weekend. And that's that. The
- 46:20Speaker 1: other so when you talk about being blocked, many times
- 46:24Speaker 1: people say the enemy, but it really is the inner meet.
- 46:27Speaker 1: We need to unblock ourselves and open ourselves up to change.
- 46:32Speaker 1: And the things that are going to really get us
- 46:34Speaker 1: to the next level. Well, you know, it's really amazing
- 46:36Speaker 1: when I'm looking through your notes, said, uh, they say
- 46:39Speaker 1: they're always send me talking points and it's just six
- 46:42Speaker 1: session called cut back because you've always talked about cut
- 46:45Speaker 1: back on all your extras, like you mentioned earlier. You know,
- 46:47Speaker 1: know your Netflix bills and know what you how you're
- 46:50Speaker 1: spending the money in restaurants. I think the biggest thing
- 46:52Speaker 1: is and it's hurting restaurants right now. But we're gonna
- 46:55Speaker 1: get back to eating a lot at home now, that's
- 46:58Speaker 1: right because of the fact that we have become such
- 47:01Speaker 1: a I want to say, like a portable or mobile society.
- 47:04Speaker 1: You know, we didn't have time to cook for ourselves.
- 47:06Speaker 1: We don't have time to take care of ourselves. We
- 47:08Speaker 1: don't have time to read the I don't know, I'm saying,
- 47:10Speaker 1: going out and you're eating all the wrong food. But
- 47:12Speaker 1: you're all eating the food you shouldn't be eating. Because
- 47:15Speaker 1: I made me a smoothie yesterday. We all have the
- 47:19Speaker 1: watermelon in there here, bananas in there, and the coconuts,
- 47:21Speaker 1: ill mean, pineapples in there. You know I would have
- 47:24Speaker 1: made a smoothie and the other circumstances that that smoothie
- 47:27Speaker 1: was good. I just I froze all my fruit, so
- 47:29Speaker 1: I didn't put so the ice was there. Put some
- 47:32Speaker 1: put some O juice in there, and put some apple
- 47:34Speaker 1: juice in there. It just changed the way I think
- 47:36Speaker 1: and where I am dealing with my life. I'm making
- 47:38Speaker 1: making their own breakfast. I'm not recommending this for everybody,
- 47:41Speaker 1: but I'm just telling everybody that when you make your
- 47:44Speaker 1: own food, you do spend less money. That's right, you
- 47:48Speaker 1: spend less. We let me tell you. Yesterday was Sunday.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I was so hungry. I wanted something that I knew
- 47:54Speaker 1: was satisfied me. I ate a peanut butter and jelly. Girl,
- 48:00Speaker 1: they're a girl that go. You stopped laying. You're about
- 48:03Speaker 1: to get me into a Bloni sandwich. I am blogne
- 48:06Speaker 1: the sandwich now fried baloney in road? At you in
- 48:12Speaker 1: my road because I told the people, I said, I said,
- 48:15Speaker 1: the pandemic diet is this Bolognian seas, not peanut butter
- 48:20Speaker 1: and jelly, a grey old cheese. If you want to
- 48:22Speaker 1: elevate it, experience and with all no films, A bowler
- 48:25Speaker 1: cria girl, oa something I have me eating cheerios right
- 48:31Speaker 1: raising brain because you know I'm a little older. I
- 48:33Speaker 1: gotta have a little movement. You gotta have a little movement,
- 48:35Speaker 1: gotta have my brain, gotta have my brand. Not so
- 48:38Speaker 1: I girl, you this peanut butter. I'm so mad at
- 48:41Speaker 1: you because you have beat me to the peanut butter
- 48:43Speaker 1: and jelly sandwich. I have not had a peanut butter
- 48:45Speaker 1: and jelly sandwich. I had had me a fried h
- 48:50Speaker 1: Bologni sandwich, had that the Christie iceberg lettish, a big
- 48:56Speaker 1: old yellow, bigger red tomatoes. Put me that man to
- 49:00Speaker 1: me two slices of white bread. Let me tell you,
- 49:03Speaker 1: yeah and let me and I'm gonna hit you up
- 49:05Speaker 1: back to head with this one. My peanut butter and jelly.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I had wonder bread. I had one dread. Yes, yes,
- 49:11Speaker 1: yes I did. But that's family. That's family. It's amazing,
- 49:17Speaker 1: you know, because I know my upgrade. I came from
- 49:20Speaker 1: fifth Ward, which is an inner city, and my parents
- 49:23Speaker 1: upgraded a little bit, moved to it like a bigger
- 49:25Speaker 1: version of the inner city. You know, because I walked
- 49:28Speaker 1: out the doors doors, same black people walking around that
- 49:31Speaker 1: I looked at when I moved from So I didn't
- 49:34Speaker 1: I didn't see the upgrade. But they said we were
- 49:36Speaker 1: living better. And the thing about it is that you
- 49:39Speaker 1: know sam croquettes, hot water, corn bread, peanut butter and jelly, sandwich, spam,
- 49:44Speaker 1: you know, tuna, fish, sandwich, all that stuff that I
- 49:49Speaker 1: walked away from. Said that I found it, and I'm happy.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I'm happy. That's right. That's why I made a big
- 49:58Speaker 1: I made a nice thing, Mobo tuna last night. Um
- 50:02Speaker 1: to the And then, of course we have all this
- 50:04Speaker 1: stuff to keep build up the immunet that's very important.
- 50:07Speaker 1: So start a home based business. Spend less money, build
- 50:10Speaker 1: your immune system daily. Breathe in some steam, breathing steam.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Just boil a pot of water and you put some
- 50:17Speaker 1: lemons or orange feel in it and breathe it in,
- 50:19Speaker 1: hold your breath, and then that forces uh. Any virus
- 50:23Speaker 1: that may have entered your now heel or your throat,
- 50:26Speaker 1: it kills it because the heat. It can't stand the heat.
- 50:29Speaker 1: So bring that in. Drink your warm liquids, your warm teeth,
- 50:32Speaker 1: and then get busy. Wake up every day, get ready,
- 50:36Speaker 1: go like you're going to work every single day. Go
- 50:38Speaker 1: fit into your space in your in your apartment or
- 50:41Speaker 1: your home or wherever it is and get busy. This
- 50:44Speaker 1: is this is a season. We we got quad locals
- 50:47Speaker 1: our our businesses this month. Awesome. Here's let's talk about
- 50:51Speaker 1: thinking ahead, because it's really interesting. In my life, I
- 50:54Speaker 1: always tell people, uh, nanny days is my minimum thought process,
- 50:58Speaker 1: but are usually six months to a year in my
- 51:00Speaker 1: landing all the time. And you know, this year starting
- 51:02Speaker 1: to you know, like you said, you know, you start planning,
- 51:06Speaker 1: you know, the the new year in the third fourth
- 51:09Speaker 1: quarter of the previous year, you know, And a lot
- 51:11Speaker 1: of people don't do that if it's twent in their team,
- 51:13Speaker 1: that that fourth quarter when you playing, and you don't
- 51:17Speaker 1: just get to January and started saying what the won't do?
- 51:19Speaker 1: Or you have to plan your taxes, your finances, how
- 51:23Speaker 1: you're gonna how much money you're gonna leave in the
- 51:25Speaker 1: bank for the governor of the government overtaxs you or
- 51:28Speaker 1: attacks you too much because you left too much money
- 51:30Speaker 1: in your bank and you should have paid somebody out
- 51:32Speaker 1: or paid an expense or played the employee and paid
- 51:35Speaker 1: that bonuses and you let it roll over all those
- 51:38Speaker 1: thought processes. But it's really amazing how when you think
- 51:41Speaker 1: ahead you can prepare for so many things that you
- 51:46Speaker 1: don't see. And that's called preparing for the for the unknown,
- 51:50Speaker 1: and that's what proper planning is. And that's why I
- 51:53Speaker 1: really like when you were talking about your apply for unemployer. Man,
- 51:56Speaker 1: don't wait around if you're unemployed, go apply. Yeah, absolutely, yeah,
- 52:02Speaker 1: don't don't weigh around. This is the time and what
- 52:05Speaker 1: you're what you're talking about right now for planning. We
- 52:08Speaker 1: have to plan now for sixty to ninety days from now,
- 52:11Speaker 1: not knowing what's going to happen. You know, people will
- 52:14Speaker 1: get in an uploar because our the president said everybody
- 52:18Speaker 1: will be back to normal. Boy Easter and folks who
- 52:21Speaker 1: like Easter, I say, yes, he means easter because he
- 52:24Speaker 1: cannot be talking about the one that about you're talking
- 52:28Speaker 1: about one, but in we don't know what's gonna happen.
- 52:32Speaker 1: So now is the time to plan for whatever until
- 52:36Speaker 1: attempt to be ready. So so I love your advice.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Well yeah, and this is just advice that I live.
- 52:41Speaker 1: And that's what I try to do when I bring
- 52:42Speaker 1: an individual on the show. What your skills saying, you're
- 52:45Speaker 1: giving advice, Liver boy, advice. One thing I've never doubted
- 52:50Speaker 1: when I've talked to you, land. Is that the advice
- 52:52Speaker 1: that you're giving is like they said, over somebody's head,
- 52:55Speaker 1: over over their abilities to achieve. Because you know what
- 52:58Speaker 1: you said, apply for unemployment, Medicaid, food stamps, public assistance. Okay,
- 53:06Speaker 1: let me tell you do what you have to do.
- 53:08Speaker 1: When when this happened in two thousand and eight, that's
- 53:10Speaker 1: exactly what I did. I had I had left my
- 53:13Speaker 1: corporate position, I'd gone out, stepped out on faith. I
- 53:16Speaker 1: had had this opportunity with Russell Simmons running one of
- 53:19Speaker 1: his big programs in the economy crash. Our sponsors pulled out.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I kept working. I kept I didn't care the sponsor
- 53:26Speaker 1: pulled out. I kept working. And then I said, you
- 53:29Speaker 1: know what, I'm gonna go down here and get some
- 53:31Speaker 1: food stamps. I've put millions of dollars into the system.
- 53:34Speaker 1: ID go get my nine hundred out a month food stamps.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Because minimally, I knew that my family could eat, and
- 53:40Speaker 1: as long as I had a roof over my head
- 53:42Speaker 1: and we could eat and we had our utilities, then
- 53:46Speaker 1: I was able to create. So I didn't care about
- 53:48Speaker 1: shame and and understand. I went to the food stamp
- 53:51Speaker 1: office and I was like the local celebrity in Chicago.
- 53:54Speaker 1: I was the radio show host. Keeper knew me. I
- 53:56Speaker 1: did not care. I walked right on in the food
- 53:58Speaker 1: stamp office, said, of people got my food stamps, so
- 54:02Speaker 1: we have to do whatever we have to do. No shame.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Surround yourself with with people who are moving in the
- 54:09Speaker 1: same direction. Grind. You know, I posted something else, and
- 54:13Speaker 1: this is a sensitive matter to a degree, but I said,
- 54:17Speaker 1: people have to read. You're gonna have to read. You know,
- 54:20Speaker 1: we're helping people. And then the exact thing that in
- 54:24Speaker 1: the message that's read in big and bold, you're responding
- 54:29Speaker 1: back with an attitude saying, you know, you think somebody's
- 54:32Speaker 1: trying to teach you, it's right here and read. You
- 54:35Speaker 1: have to read. So if you can't read, now it's
- 54:38Speaker 1: the time to learn how to read. So this is
- 54:40Speaker 1: just an opportunity to hit the reset button for all
- 54:43Speaker 1: of us, me included. It's really important to hear that.
- 54:46Speaker 1: I remember when the interest rate was dropped. You know,
- 54:49Speaker 1: I immediately called my friends. I said, look, please look
- 54:52Speaker 1: at that interest rate. If you have a home mortgage,
- 54:55Speaker 1: look at refinancing. You have to realize, like I said,
- 54:59Speaker 1: their opportunity these out here. You know if you if
- 55:02Speaker 1: you can get a credit line, get your credit line
- 55:04Speaker 1: now because the interest you this is what you're talking
- 55:11Speaker 1: about in planning. You can sit around and complain. But
- 55:14Speaker 1: if you're if you're if your credit line scores high,
- 55:17Speaker 1: take advantage of that. If you have an equity in
- 55:20Speaker 1: your home, take advantage of that, get a low end
- 55:23Speaker 1: credit line loan. You know that you can call on
- 55:26Speaker 1: in the emergency, because, like I said, they said thirty days,
- 55:29Speaker 1: they said April. You know the the the federal guidelines
- 55:33Speaker 1: are going to be pushed to the end of April.
- 55:35Speaker 1: We don't know that. You're just saying that. This is
- 55:40Speaker 1: the same man came out and said, hey, Eastern the
- 55:43Speaker 1: churches will be packed. Okay, he said this. So we
- 55:47Speaker 1: cannot sit around saying, oh, that's that's going to be
- 55:50Speaker 1: what we're going to do, because it's not true at all.
- 55:53Speaker 1: So we have to become aggressive. We have to become
- 55:56Speaker 1: the planners. And that is what you preach. That is
- 55:59Speaker 1: what you teach on a regular braceist Lynn Richardson tell
- 56:02Speaker 1: us again about that the webinar that you do on
- 56:04Speaker 1: a daily basis, and also that incredible book that I Gotta,
- 56:08Speaker 1: I Gotta, I gotta I gotta promote it again, especially
- 56:11Speaker 1: during this period. So I need that banner for that book.
- 56:13Speaker 1: And also I need to be able to drive people
- 56:16Speaker 1: to your webinars. Okay, yes, and we're gonna get you
- 56:20Speaker 1: a copy of the book. And you didn't know about
- 56:22Speaker 1: it because I just created this Friday. I've been working
- 56:26Speaker 1: on it and uh, someone reached out to me and
- 56:29Speaker 1: and and there were really there were literally thousands of
- 56:32Speaker 1: people that I realized we're in a situation with children
- 56:35Speaker 1: at home, and they said, oh wait, you need to
- 56:37Speaker 1: turn listen to a homemade business, get the kids involved.
- 56:39Speaker 1: So I pulled together my resources, I got my team,
- 56:42Speaker 1: the trademark, all of that stuff. We rolled it out
- 56:45Speaker 1: and so when folks woke up on Friday, they said,
- 56:47Speaker 1: little wits, and you are crazy, But it's a kid,
- 56:50Speaker 1: it's my first job. The kids died to money in entrepreneurship,
- 56:55Speaker 1: and the parent can collaborate with us by hiring the
- 56:59Speaker 1: child to work in their own based distance. And for
- 57:01Speaker 1: the parents, it's the symphony a guide to creating embalancing
- 57:04Speaker 1: multiple streams of income. And this is gonna force us
- 57:08Speaker 1: as a community to sit down, have conversations and rather
- 57:12Speaker 1: than your kids running around the house all day with
- 57:14Speaker 1: no direction. You know, I see people suspending their children
- 57:18Speaker 1: on social media. One lady said that she got fired
- 57:21Speaker 1: for drinking on the job and that she's she was
- 57:23Speaker 1: talking about herself from her old old school. She got
- 57:28Speaker 1: got fired from my own home school. But it doesn't
- 57:30Speaker 1: have to be disorder. We can find order. And let
- 57:33Speaker 1: me tell you something. My youngest daughter is eighteen. She's
- 57:36Speaker 1: a freshman at Howard University. She's been working for me
- 57:39Speaker 1: since she was six six. She's been working and she
- 57:43Speaker 1: entered college with seven hundred credit scores. She she's a
- 57:46Speaker 1: wide spender, she's got money in the bank. She understands business,
- 57:50Speaker 1: and so do her Sister's my my year old in
- 57:53Speaker 1: the sophomore and my oldest is a senior at Northwestern.
- 57:56Speaker 1: So this is something that can be taught. Now. I
- 57:59Speaker 1: made all the mistake. I didn't get what they had.
- 58:01Speaker 1: I was the opposite. But now that I'm in a
- 58:04Speaker 1: position to know, I want to help other people know
- 58:07Speaker 1: how to not only change their situation, but to start
- 58:10Speaker 1: their children off with a winning strategy. Awesome, she's all
- 58:15Speaker 1: the time, She's she's my favorite. She called me to
- 58:17Speaker 1: Rashaan could I could I be on your show? I said, hey,
- 58:20Speaker 1: you need to stop making that phone call because you're
- 58:22Speaker 1: a regular Lynn Richardson. She's wonderful. You'll be seeing her
- 58:25Speaker 1: book posted on my social media. You'll be seeing her
- 58:28Speaker 1: whebinar posted on my social media, both Money Making Conversation
- 58:31Speaker 1: and my personal at Rashaan McDonald. Again you're listening to.
- 58:35Speaker 1: If you want to hear any more episodes of Money

- 59:00Speaker 1: true magic of a forest. It's a storybook world for them.
- 59:04Speaker 1: You look and see a tree. They see the wrinkled
- 59:07Speaker 1: face of a wizard with arms outstretched to the sky.

- 1:00:01Speaker 1: that's Holly has Hollywood buzzing about her new book, Dirty
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Little Secrets that Nobody wants to tell you about the
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: entertainment industry. I've been in the industry, entertainment industry. I
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: read this book very excitable, very I got very excited
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: when I first of I read the titler. Oh, curiosity
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: killed the cat. I gotta know, I gotta know, And
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: she's told me a lot of information. Some things I
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: did know, some things I didn't know. That's all the
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: process of why we read, why we educate ourselves. She's
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: the one behind the scene of many many music and
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: beloved artists including uh, Tony Braxton, Chante More, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Will Downing and Vogue, Escape the Brad, oh and many more.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Please welcome to money making conversations. I don't know how
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I missed this young lady in my journey in music.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Cheryl Cobb, Hello, good morning, afternoon. How w how did
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I missed you? You know all these names here, you
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: know Tony Braxton, Chante More, Fantasia. So many times I've
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: encountered my relationships saying fantasies in Vogue, Escape the Brad,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: how did we not? And even in your when you
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: said Barry Hankerson, when you said Baron Hankerson, who was
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: at the time was managing or kill I go, Hi,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: have I not met this young Lady's your car, we said, Barry.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: When I read your book, you said Baron Hankerson, I
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: went through. I said, I don't know how I'm not
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: met her. You know what's funny, and you know this,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: working with talent, you're in the background. And I tried
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: to really stay in the background and Letten let the
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: artists be the artists. I'd be the manager or the
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: branding person. And let them do their job, and I
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: was there to support and I enjoyed it was fun
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: and I liked it like that. Well, you know the
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: funny part about your book. I would like to ask,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I guess when they come on the show, what is
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: your gift or gifts? Srill call one of my loyalty
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: m hm, loyalty is I'll tell you this. It's also
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: it's one of my wisest and biggest strengths and also
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: one of my biggest failures because I'm loyal to a
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: fault and sometimes that will get you in trouble. But
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: my father was a marine SEMPREEFID That's how I grew up.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: And when you get into something that you love and
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: attach yourself to something that you believe in, then you'd
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: be loyal to that and pray perfectly they'll they'll be
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: loyal to you. But that's one of my biggest strengths,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: is loyalty. We know it's really Also when I say that,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: is that when I'm reading a book, one of the
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: things that one of my big takeaways from your book
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: the book I'm talking to Sheriff Carb and her book
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: is entitled Dirty Little Secrets that Nobody wants to tell
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: you about the entertainment industry, was that we get into
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: this business not really knowing our true gifts. That's why
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: I asked what your gift was, because you know, you
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: came in and as an assistant for a lot of
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: uh talented people. And one of the fun stories I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: read was when Tony Braxton looked at you and so
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: you you're not a man, you're not under a sister,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: You're a manager. And the very next day you quit
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: and she fired you at the same time. Story it
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: was a mutual agreement. It was we were working on
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: a video in Miami, Florida, and she was lovely and
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I went in and we were introduced through a mutual
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: friends and after spending a couple of days on the
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: video shoot, on the way home, yeah, she was like,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: you know, I don't know why you're trying to be
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: my assistant. But she didn't know that I had just
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: gotten into the business and I've been working with Luther
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Vangrol for about maybe nine months. That was my first gig,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Luther Vandros traveling the world and she needed an assistant
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: and I was like, Hey, this is the next gig,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I'll take it, and I took the job, and you know,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: after the weekend, I was like, I can't do this.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I can't do it the same like I think you should.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: You should be something else. I'll tell you what. Maybe,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Like um about after she said this is not gonna
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: work and I said, you know, you're right, it's absolutely
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: not gonna work out. She called me back about a
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: month later, just randomly at the Clear Blue Side and
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: so I'm going to Europe. I need a tour manager.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Would you be interested? And I was like absolutely, I'd
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: never traveled to Europe uh in that capacity, but I
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: was like, I could do it. And that's how we
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: started our journey. And I think we had like a
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: six or seven year journey from you know for me
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: being her road matt tour manager, road manager, go onto
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: her day to day manager, and then made of honor
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: in her wedding. So it was, you know, that's how
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: relationships established. Um. But that's how I started my journey
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: with Tony Braxton and it was a good journey. Well,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: you know, it's really interesting when I read when I'm
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: reading about the book, because that little moment right there,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: being a tour manager to Europe. Okay, now, that's something
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: you had not done at the time, had not, But
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: that did not throw any fear into you, like, oh,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: let me pass on this opportunity. But that's the drive,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: that's the drive that you have inside, that's the that's
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: the gift that you have inside, is that you're not
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: you know, allow you never let fear win. And a
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: lot of people left fear win a change the opportunity.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: They doubt themselves, but you didn't doubt yourself. Why not? Well,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: I knew going into the industry that I could do it.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: I had a background in production, so I was just
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: clear and faith. I walked out on faith on every
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: decision I make. It's faith um experienced though. Let me
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: tell you I worked with Luther, and Luther was a
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: perfectionist and I had the yes, yes he was Excuse me.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: I had the pleasure of traveling to Europe with Luthor
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: as a hospitality director. So I was way in the background. Lord,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: that's the potem pole. But you know what I did.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Let me tell you, Rashaan, I attached to myself to
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: his tour manager and we became best friends and he
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: taught me everything. Cath Richard's blessed his so he's not today,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: but he was excellent and I and let me tell you,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: anybody knows anything about Lucive Andros, they knew that he
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: everything was first class. Everything, his staff, his team, it
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: was superb. So I attached myself to somebody who I
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: knew understood business. And once I got the job with
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Toni Braxton, I was like, I do this relationship Smarty,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: that's what you're talking about, you know, really interesting when
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: you're talking about this, because you know, she got introduced
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: to this world at first class level. Lutherve Andro's career,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Uh when she came on board, three thousand people was
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: a minimum that he will perform in front of Luther
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: rain Dross and and you know, everything had to be right,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: the food had He was a consummate professional, and so
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: when you walked in the room, he was never allowed.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: You know, his pasona, his his brand, all those things
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: matter to him. And that's why he had had the
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: career that he had and left us with the hits
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: that he left us with because he treated everybody as
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: humans and never saw himself as being bigger than the moment.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: And so that was that was like, you know, that
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: was like a PhD. On how to do a tour
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: right and how to how to treat people on a tour.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: That you got right? Is that I keep telling you, girl,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: I should have met you. Okay, again, this is Sheryl Carr.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I'm talking to Sheryl car. She has a book called
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Dirty Little Secrets that nobody wants to tell you about
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: the entertainment industry. Now this person again, Luther Van Draws,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: hospitality director Tony Bradston Chante more carry Underwood. You know,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: American Highland Plantation, American Highland, Will Diamond, who I loved,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: who I feel there's never gotten this due as a
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: performer or a single. He's just as amazing as Luther
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: as absolutely in vogue, escape all the brad you know.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: It's this is just a short list of people that
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: she has uh she has touched. And when I say touch,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: let me just get personal a little bit. From a manager,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: management perspective or producer perspective, rance has to be there.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: You have to have answers when people they will come
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: to you for answers and you can't go uhh, you
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: have you better have an answer because they're depending on you,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: when they wake up, depending on you. When't you go
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: to sleep. Um, I remember Steve Harvey still always tell
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: me here you know everything, you know what you're shying
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: to go? Yeah? Yeah, And even he's sure he was
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: looking at me, go you serious, aren't you? Yes? I
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: am serious. What you need to know, Steve, I'm gonna
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: tell you because I'm not gonna sit a bit tell
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: you I don't know anything. And it was so it
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: was so funny because I, you know, managed Steven A
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Smith Nows And it was so funny that Steven he
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: called me, he called me off god he and he
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: asked me a question. I went, I don't know. He went,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: hold up. Now this needs to make the national news.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Rashan mcdun't said he didn't know anything, and so and
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: that down on me out of respect and also out
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: of uh that people know that about your brand, that
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: they know they can come to you and get an
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: honest statement that they know. And that's what you have
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: built in your life. You don't get all these names
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: associated with your brand, Schirl unless you get that reputation
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: of being honest, get that reputation of being able to deliver. Yes, yes,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: And let me tell you something very interesting that you said,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: being able to be honest is so important and one
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: of the secrets in my book, I think it's number nine.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: It's called pick your Battles. And what Pick your Battles
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: explains is is that as a manager, your job is
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: to advise and to consult. You're not You're not their boss,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: and they're not your boss. Your job is to actually
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: because when they don't take your advice, our consultation, then
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: your job is no longer needed. So you know, if
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I have an artist and I advised them and they
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: decided not to take my advice, then my advice to
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: them is do what you need. I'm gonna back you
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: and we'll find a solution right or wrong. But this
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: is my advice and this is what wise counsel is
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: so important. But at the end of the day, they
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: make their own decisions and you have to go with it. Absolutely.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: It was one of the one of your favorite lines
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: in this book of you said, you've been fired, rehired,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: and quit. You've been fired by some of the best
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: people in the industry. And it's okay. Now. Yes. The
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: reason I'm a I'm a slow this down for mane
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: because I gotta talk a little racial here, because I
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: learned this. I learned this in the business, you know
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: from from my white counterparts. You know I would they
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: would get fired. They come in, shake the person's hand,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: say thank you for the opportunity, and walk point. And
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: I've seen my my black counter for mad. But we
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: all know nobody likes to get fired. Nobody likes to
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: get You know that that's a bad experience. But but
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: this is the long run. This is the run, This
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: is a relationship. How you react because it's a very
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: small circle in high the wood entertainment is a very
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: small circle. So if you're a fool over here, leave,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: it gonna circulate to everybody real quick. So it's how
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: you exit, how you exit those dark moments. It is
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: very key, and it's from a minority perspective. You cannot
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: take this stuff personal. You cannot. But you know what's
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: interesting about that, that's a learned behavior too, because nobody
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: you could work at Walmart, nobody wants to get fired.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: And it doesn't feel good under any circumstances, doesn't feel good.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: But once you understand the process, and that's this is
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: why I wrote this book. And number You're Gonna Get
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: Fired is my number one chapter is because you're going
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: to get fired, and I teach you how to process it.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: And there's like four or five little steps that you
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: have to go to get to recovery. And those steps,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: although their small, as you say, little nudgets, they are meaningful.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: And when you understand them and you you begin to
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: source because you go into your next job and you
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: understand that it's a job and you have to separate
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: the friendship from the business. Being able to talk to
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: somebody who's been there, done that, it's really refreshing. And
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I found that really really refreshing about your book is
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: that it's very honest and very truthful and putting together
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: a book like this walk us through the steps, Cheryl,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: you know it. First we'll start with experience, just really experience.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: And I was literally I wrote another book, which I'll
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: tell you about later when I wrote that, but it's
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: a bigger book. But this ten dirty Little Secret is
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: a small book out of the big book. As I
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: was writing the book, I was like, he's a nugget
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: that people need to know. So these were extracted out
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: of my bigger book. And I decided to release this
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: from first because right now, these kids out here, and
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: then also experienced artists that can't like reboot their careers
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: need to read the books. So that's how it started,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: just me going over. I was like, what are the
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: ten things? Not a lot? There's something simple, the ten
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: things that I believe people need to know. And I
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: decided to use the things that affected me mos, which
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: is friendship, business, finance, loyalty, you know, picking your battles,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: and then also the administrative stuff which I'm sure we'll
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: get into later, and that's called your team. And so
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: both and picking the right team and having the ranking,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: so both were like the strongest things I can remember
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: that will affect every artist. Every last one of these
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: ten nuggets will affect you, no matter who you are.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: And so that's where the whole, that's where the energy
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: came from. I know, I wanted to stand in order,
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: but you brought up something that I want to keep
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: at the top of the mind. The team. Who is
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: your team? What is your team? I remember when I
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: stopped managing Steve Harvey and and I was by myself,
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: you know, and I was trying to figure all this
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: out by myself, and and and it took me about
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: a year to realize Roshan you were successful with Steve Harvey,
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: for sure, but you also had a team. And so
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: in t seventeen, I started assembling a team around me.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: People who knew my brand, who trusted me, had more
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: passion for my brand sometimes than I had, because because
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: it's important to have people around you that have passion
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: for your brand, because it can get tiring. Just keep
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: talking about yourself, keep motivating yourself, keep moving forward, and
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: they drop some information about you, then you go, oh, yeah,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I forgot about that, because always t people. When you
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: keep telling the same story, you start reshaping it because
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: out of boarder, you start changing it, and you start
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: short changing your opportunity to short changing the things that
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: you've accomplished becau you trying to keep the story fresh
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: for you. So it's important to have a team around
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: you that will remind you of your story, the whole story,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: and to remind you of your capability, not a part
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: of your capability, but your overall results. And that's why
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: I keep reminding of the relationships that you have because
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: when you come on Minds your Money Made conversation, I
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: always want to talk about not with so much what
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: you're doing right now, but also their journey, because the
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: journey gives you the validation of why we're talking right now,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: why you can write a book like that. If I
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: just start just talking about this book, people may get
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: lost going I don't know what. Who is she? Well,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I guess what. I Am about to tell you who
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: she is. I'm about to tell you why you should
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: be impressed. I'm gonna tell you. In this book, she
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: talks about her flaws. She talks about her mistakes. She
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: talks about how she's gotten up several times, how being
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: fired was attack on her integrity. How r Kelly's old
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: manager custoded like she was a man. That was the
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: funniest line in that book. Im. If you know Barry,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: you know it was funny. When I read, I laughed.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: So I said, I said, I said, said he cut me.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: I like I a man, Like I was a man.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: I was paralyzed, Oh my god, truly paralyzed. And if
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: but I'll tell you if that was a defining moment
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: for me, because I could have given up at that
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: point because it didn't feel good and it hurt, and
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: I was scared. He loved me, he was just angry
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: with me. And that was that. And so you know,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: but for me, it wasn't right. It wasn't right though, No, no,
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: it wasn't right. It wasn't right. But you know what,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: I took that and I'm paralyzed. Let me tell you.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: I was paralyzed for a minute. And then I was like,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: you know what, he didn't make me mhm uh. So
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: let's go back to what I know. Because what I
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: know nobody can take away from. So let's take what
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: I know and let's start there and start over. Something
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: that you said I don't want to get over is
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: you were talking about the team, and um, you asked
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: me how did I come up with the team and
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: how did I recover from being fired or from me?
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Just tell you this, I same thing that happened to
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: you happened to me. And then when you're out there
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: alone on the island, you start used to get depressed.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: It's easy to get depressed. It easy to go Okay, God,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: I've worked so many years for this person and I've
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: made them successful, and here I am alone. So I
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: really started digging deep within. I was like, Okay, I'm
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna come up with with a thing, Crown fixer.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna fix. I need my crown six and I'm
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: gonna fix other people's crown. Okay, I'm betting on me. Okay,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: it's time to bet on me. Those are the things.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: So I have a good friend. I'm gonna give her
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: a shout out because she is the editor and ghostwriter
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: with me on my books. Her name is Dr Dean Gordon.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: I promise you this woman is amazing, she said. I
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: told her I had a story, said come talk to me.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: I sat there and I talked to this woman for
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: about three hours, and the next day she brought the
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: manuscript and I could believe. She was like, this is
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: your story. You wrote this. I just typed it and
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: just put it in order. And that's how we started writing.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: And we finished that book and we started on another book.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: She's she is like a dream story whisperer. She will
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: take your stories. You might think the story is one thing,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: and then you finished talking to her and you come
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: out finding out, oh my god, I have a whole
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: different story in me. So Stan Gordon's stuck with me,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: walked with me through the Jeremy pam Brussard, who's my publicist,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: who you know, was an amazing who came to me
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: and said, you know what, I trust in you. You've
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: brought me a lot of clients. You've been very low
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: to me. You know what, I'm gonna get on your team.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: And then I have a young lady that's been under me,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: under my tutelage for years, the name of sureI Griffin said,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: I do social media. I'll do your social media. And
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: I trust all three of those people. And we put
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: a team together, and I mean, honestly, that's write it
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: and I'll do the rest. And now it's just like
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: take it off. Well, you know this is really is
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: because it's important. And when you talk about her putting
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: information in that you forgot. That's all I'm talking about.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: When you were a success and you don't have a
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: team around you, then you for can forget your greatness,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: you can forget your accomplishments. Because sometimes I always tell
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: people like, sometimes you gotta have somebody else brag about you,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: hype you talk about you. That's why I love rappers.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: They started the hype game. Gotta come out there. I'm
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: gonna tell you who come out and come out there.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: But but actually I started with Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Alias
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: started the hypers. You know he started somebody coming out there,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: go out there and tell everybody how great I am.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Why come out there? Absolutely absolutely there there were they
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: were They were oral publicists. You know, you know who
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: about to come on this stage. You really tell this
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: bad boy up, the greatest box of all time, the
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: prettiest box of all time, and so and so that's
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: what and so when you when you when you do so.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: When I was doing stand up comedy as a host,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: that's all I was doing. I was as a host.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I was a hype god. They give me the credits
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: and I go, okay, I gotta hype this person up
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: so everybody could realize why they should be excited about
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: this person. So they're laugh at his jokes. Okay, a
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: singer and things like that. So so so, now you've
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: got a team of hype people around. That's all. I
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: have a team of hype people around because sometimes I
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: tell things like don't worry about that, to go, what
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: do you don't worry about that? You have a degree
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: in mathematics. Oh yeah, okay, that's that's a big deal.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: What should put it in your bio? How about working
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: for working at IBM? That's a big deal and so
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: because you start cutting off little slices of your success.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: So it's important your book talk about that. And it's
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: important that you understand the value of having people around
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: you to promote your brand, support your brand, hype your brand.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: That part of the book was so important to me.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: Thank you. And what did you read the the part
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: right after that, This is loyalty a team, but your
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: team has to be that person has to be loyal
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: to you as well. Absolutely both ways, absolutely absolutely, And
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: I got that tip from Open Went Free. Well you
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: know again you know, uh you went to meet her
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: with Fantasia, okay, and you call Gail King, makes your
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Guil King, I read your book, young lady. Would just
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: let you know. See sure, Sherleys, I'm gonna drop a
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: nugget or whatever, because see, so you have to read
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: the book. It's certain things when you read the book,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: you have to pick up a little nuances. So so
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Fantasia wanted to open wanted to talk to this Phantasia. Fantasia,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Fantasia call Shery, So Sharyl, I want you to come
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: with you come with me to meet with Oprah And
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: oper was her idol, So she wasn't gonna pass up
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: on the chance to But but you didn't want to
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: go in to a meeting if Gail King wasn't gonna
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: be there. So you reached out to Gail King, and
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Gail King says she's gonna be there. You got to
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: go to the meeting meet your idol because King was there.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Because that was a relationship you had built along the way.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: And life is a wonderful thing. I've read you and
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: so when I tell people go read your book, they
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: should read your book. That story we're gonna leave people
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: to read because it's a great It was so it's
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: so inspiring what she taught and what she said she
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: can healse me with Sam Page. I just happened to
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: be collateral. I just have to be there, you know.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: And so I was able to take it absorbed. I
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: was in the meeting and then I stepped out and
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: let's them have a private meeting. But the the beginning
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: of that meeting was so powerful, and what she said
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: stuck with me and I had to tell that story ablutely.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: There another story you're telling the book is by your
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: relationship with r. Kelly or Robert Kelly. You don't only
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: need to Robert Kelly. Okay, and then you say this,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: and I took this out of the book. It has
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: been uh, I've been Uh. He never tried to sleep
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: with me and treated me like a princess. A lot
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: of people may not like that I'm writing this, but
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: every situation is different. I only knew that version of
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: our Robert Kelly. That's what you call it, Robert because
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: because of the fact that we all know what's going
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: on in the media right now. But that's but you
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: can't deny the relationship and the positive impact that that
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: relationship had in your life. And you mentioned that in
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: the book, but you still felt it had value to
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: your story. Correct. It was so important, And people warned
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: me about mentioning it, but I was like, I'm not ashamed.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: It's a part of my journey when I worked with him,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: and it'll tell you in the book through interscope. I
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: worked with Jimmy I being the stout were I ran
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: his record label and so I didn't run to the
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: gym and play basketball and in lifts private life. So
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: you can work with somebody and have absolutely no idea
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: about what they're doing in their private life. So I
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: was astonished and still am. I'm just hurt beyond measure
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: because you know, and you know, everybody gets their day
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: in course, but my journey, my experience, was not a
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: bad experience. So I had to put it in there
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: because it's fair. And you'll notice in the book I
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: throw myself under the bus several times because I have
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: to tell the truth about the journey because no matter
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: who you work with, good or bad, some times, you know,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: I have had clients to file bankruptcy. I was right there.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I checked clients who who's had you know, And I
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: never tell anybody's private business in the book. I tell
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: my private business absolutely, and that's and that was That
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: was fine with me, Like I said, But this part
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: of the book I thought was important because if relationships
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: or what make us and so good or bad? And
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: so I felt it was a very courageous moment for
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: you because you could took it an easy road out
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: and say I'm not leaving this part out and I'm
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: just gonna talk about this. But you're talking about dirty
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: little secrets and entertainment industry, and some of these secrets
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: are about people who you work with, people who you
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: do business with. But how do you act there's no
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: different than I'm not trying to go into that next levels.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: A lot of people did business Harvey Waynstein, Rinstein. So
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: so that's that's a durning little secret that now he's
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: in he's been committed to twenty three years of incarceration
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: based on that verdict. And so but in your book,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: it's so many it's about relationship you talk about it's
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: about being fired, it's about the team you put around.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: It's about the people, because the team is the key
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: at that point. Now, because the fact that you have
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: people around you to tell you I wouldn't do that,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I would, I would, I would avoid those relationships is
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: not something you should have on your resume. But those
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: are the things that we deal in life. But you're
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: telling this story is a great book, Cheryl, tell us
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: how we get the book, because, as you can say,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: and I've enjoyed the book, I've lived that life as
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: a manager, as a producer. You've dropped some nuggets on me.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: But more importantly, the nuggets that you're dropping in the
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: book are relatable to everyday people. Well, you can have
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: two things. Let me just say this, it has been
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: such a pleasure to talk to you. It's like, I
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: know you brought my brother, and the honor of it
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: is that you understanding. You clearly see it because you
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: had the same experiences. So I love that and I
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: love talking to you. And when we get off this line,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: we're gonna talk to a little bit more. But you
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: can't get the book. It's everywhere. Um ten Dirty Little
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Secrets dot Com. Go in, push the buttons by the book.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: But I'm also on Barnes and Noble, I'm on Amazon,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I'm on Kindle, so I'm left to be everywhere all
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: over the world. You can sign me. There's no way
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: you can. But ten Dirty Little Secrets dot Com easy enough,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Just push it. The book is there and all the
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: other sites. I'm on Instagram, Facebook, all of it. Ten
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Dirty Little Secrets and I would just just my closest day.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: One of my favorite chapters was the was the reality
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: show that you would do with Shante Moore and r God,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Oh my god. It's because I've been there. I've been there.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: You know, they tell you one thing and they get
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: you out there. You we're going and that's not working
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: for us. We gotta we gotta turn up the value.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: We gotta turn up the drama. This is not gonna
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: be uh, this a little nice story we told you
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: guys were gonna do. And then you gotta protect your brain,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: you gotta protect your people, gotta protect you. And then
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: something and you do it too quick and blow up
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: in front of you and you have to just take it.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: And that's how people can manipulate you in this business.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: And those are the dirty little secrets that she's talking
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: about in the book. You know, is that just because
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: you signed up to do something doesn't mean that's going
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: to be the final story. Absolutely, and that is that
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: that's the fact I do great. I want to thank

- 1:28:00Speaker 1: Oh but the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: are everywhere. Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: car seat buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: who looks to be about nine or ten, has secured
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: herself in the booster seat. Dad zips the bad clothes

- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Dory Wilson's Hey, what's up, man? How are you doing?
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: I mean, I'm doing fantastic door. I'm telling you know,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: I've always been a fan way back when we first
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: met Man when he was over that Steve Harvey sitcom.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: Man came in, he came in. Man just just toured up.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: Man became on Steve Harvey is adversary to uh when
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: the Rick Robinson and that's my girl right there, you know.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: And that's that's relationships, man, That's that's relationships. And that's
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: that's that's really your career. Because the thing in this business,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: man is you always want to know what people say
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: about you, think about you, and what you do when
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: you when they when they give you that opportunity, and
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: you you be very consistent about that. Can you talk
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: about that? I am so blessed to have the longevity
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: that I do have. I don't know what it is,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: but it's, like you said, it's the relationships that that
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: you you pave along the way. I've always worked with
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: incredible people that I admired and those relationships stick, you know,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: on down the road because you never know, you know
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: that that grip that uh that you know, operator uh
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: might have the next big movie or whatever. So you
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: know I attributed that and God and uh just trying
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: to stay relevant and you relevant and you stay rel
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Let's let's let's just show why you relevant. Chairsh today. Okay,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: Now it's like, who are you talking about? You know,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: I'll tell you a man. You know, first of all,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: if anybody has not seen the Love Story by Avadukeay
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: on their own network for the Oprah Winfrey Network, Um
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: and um, oh my god, you played the farther figure
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: and read also plays the mother. You guys have two
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: characters to come in and just take over that episode emotionally.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Um and you know it just talked about getting involved
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: with the show like that. That is a it's a
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: time piece from the standpoint she jumps most and years
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: in the relationship. And there's only eight episodes, but it
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: is the talk of the town as far as UH
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: television U making, filmmaking, television making. Nobody has done that
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: before like that. But no, if it has been done,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: it is never captured the imagination of the viewing audience
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: like it has today. You are part of African America.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: My god, God, it is so dope to to be
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: a part of this amazing production. And I'm I'm so
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: glad that people get to see me outside of my gendre,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: of my box that comedy. Um, you know that that
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: everybody knows me for to be able to play this
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: this interesting character. Um. This this father who is you know,
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: the head of the household, but he's really not because
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: the mother is yet once again relationships and we we
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: go way back to the Parkers as well. And uh.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: And when they told me that she was cast, I
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: was like, is she getting ready to kill this? But
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I had a great time. It's an all star cast. Um.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: Just just a wonderful vibe and and something really different,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: like you were saying, Uh, to see African Americans. Uh,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: couple that are in love and you know the child's
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: and tribulations that they go through. Um, and it's carried
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: through years. Um you know, and you have the legendary
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Sincily Tyson. Um. Yeah, I mean this amazing, Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: But your character, you play with such an important character
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: because you know it is kind of funny and then
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: but that's men that stairwell and not giving. This series
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: was very dramatic, and it was like, that's what you're
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: talking about. Give you a chance to spread. You do
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: a little humor, but you come back and you're reel
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: and that's that's a that's a unique ability that we're
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: quite often to don't see that much because of the character.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Right see you as a sitcom star, see if comedy
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: we leave, come in and be funny and break up
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: the moment. And this shirt allows this series allows people
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: to see you from a very very uh enjoyable, unjarable.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: Congratulations man, congratulations, Thank you so much. Man. It allowed
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: me to stretch my acting muscle, if you will. But
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: a lot of people don't know I'm classically trained, you know,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: you know, I know, yes, of course, because you're with
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Steve used to clown all the time acting, But yeah,
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: I did all of Shakespeare and dramatic stuff, slowdowns on
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: the killing ground, um, you know, just it's serious of
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: deep pieces. And I graduated from um, you know, doing
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: this performing arts school, came to l A and you
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: know right away I'm cast as a funny sidekick on
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: the show Uh dream on um And, which I did
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: for six years, and after that, I was like totally pitcheonholed.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: It's like, this is a funny guy. He's a comic,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: you know, but I have I do have a range,
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: and so absolutely, you know, I'm so they get to
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: see it in that show, and I was thankful to
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: see it because it's just, you know, it's just it's
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: just fascinating to watch. I consider you a friend in
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: the business. I could see you with somebody that if
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: I have an opportunity to cast a role, I want
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: to bring you in to make sure you get an
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: opportunity because you're professional and hear that here, thank you,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: thank you, but you're not but don't want you just
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: stuck with just chairs today is amazing. But have a
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: TV one series stepping back and stepping back to low,
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: stepping back to low, tell us about that. Uh, once again,
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: I got to play this incredible role. I'm playing the
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: father of the lead character um and Uh, Darren Henson,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: who is amazing in his own right. He's a beautiful dancer. Uh.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: He has we have this um love hate relationship with
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: his father and son that I bring out that I'm saying,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: you know, I just want the best for my son,
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: so I pushed him, uh to to make him a
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: better man. And it doesn't come across that way to
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: him at all times, because it just seems seems like
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I'm I'm, you know, being a beast on him. But
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: you know, I know he's capable of you know, greater
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: things in my eye, um so um, you know, and
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: once again I got to play this get this incredible role,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: um opposite of him. But it was a beautiful project.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: Um and they had a great time shooting it. And
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: I'm a fan of Darren, So Darren Hanson and he's
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: done a lot of plays on the road. You've probably
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: have seen him in those. He's very good and amazing dance.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: He's on fools as well. The thing about it is
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: that when because I've watched some clips from the series,
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: is that when you're talking about it, like my father
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: he was passed away, our relationship was kind of like that.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: You know, he had expectations for me, and I had
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: expectations for myself, and so and so. In the series,
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: it comes across, which is a good storytelling, by the way,
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: where he thinks he wants you to live the life
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: that you want him to live, and that creates the
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: conflict because you're just trying to get him to live
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: the best life that he can possible and that's the
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: that's the basis of that storytelling for that particular series. Correct. Yes,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: absolutely and uh and not to be outdone. My father
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: was the same way. He pushed me. It was accept
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: thing of everything that I do and always, um is
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: that first person to be that that cheerleader, uh, you know,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: to encourage me. But I believe me if it wasn't
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: for him, my mother as well, UM, they wanted me
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: to be the best me um. And so you know
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: they laid that foundation with God and and hard work,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: uh and dedication. There's nothing that I couldn't do. And
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: so you know I realized that and that's what I
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: passed on to my kids as well and try to
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: encourage them as well. Well. The next two things I'm
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: about to bring up what excites me about what's what's
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: happening in career? You executive producing, not saying you haven't
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: done any advance, but these projects that we're about to
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: talk about the next two projects, you are the executive producer,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: one of the executive producer. The first project we want
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: talk about is starring and the bt S Network show
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: called He's Hers and the Truth. First of all, I
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: love that title. Right there, He's Hers and the Truth
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: right there, I'm watching right there, So I'm watching that.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: I'm watching that because you know, there's a lot, there's
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: a kind of and there's the twothre ye. Remember there's
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: the lines on the hit side, that's the lies on
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: the side. What is the truth? But the funny part
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: is it's it's our truth as well. You know, we
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: really believe that we're telling the truth. This is our perspective,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: you know, uh, coming from us, but in lies somewhere
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: in the middle, that's where the truth is. Though, So
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: how do you get involved and get the title of
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: executive producing for this particular show. Well, first of all,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the first and foremost, I have an amazing manager. Um
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: managers management. Yeah, you must be on the phone, and uh,
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: believe me, every project that he does or that the
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: company does, I'm involved with some way or another. I'm
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: actually in the movie as well. Um. But I got
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: to really put a different hat on back and try to,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: you know, make this project come to fruition and uh,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I'm having such a great time learning the business as well. Now,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: you know, I got to be behind in front of
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: the camera for many many years, but now to be
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: a part of you making Yeah, man, it's a it's
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: a beautiful things. So it's really amazing that people you know,
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: you know you have you have an acting executive producer
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: and you have a working executive producer. You know, I'll
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: be fortunate to be a working executive producer, which you've
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: all been. The casting, it goes all down to can
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: we pay that actress or can we pay that actor
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: or is that a five and under? No, they have
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: person as a stand in the room and be silent,
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: can't get together and they gotta act like they active,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: but they can't say anything. It comes down to that.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: It comes down to catering, it comes down to set design.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: It really is the things that we don't see and
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: it in front of us here. But it's it's crazy,
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: you know, it's a it's a lot of work, and
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: people don't realize that. You know. In fact, I felt
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: kind of good because you were talking about all that
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: work that we have been doing behind the sidelines, behind
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: the scenes. You didn't know about tatering and wardrobe and
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: uh you know that's that's the fun part about why
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: I love being behind the camera. Well, I love being
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: in front of the camera because I did all that
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: I believe from all the stuff that you guys do,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: but you know, to to really be able to be
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: a part of the decision making and the whole process
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: of making a project come to fruition is amazing And
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: I'm learning that, um. And I learned that from uh,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: you know, being an executive producer on the film his
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: hers and the truth um working with incredible brothers that
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: have done this for many, many years. This is uh
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: their seventh movie together and so for them to bring
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: me apart be a part of this is uh amazing
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: to me because I'm learning as I'm doing, um, you know,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: and I can bring um the acting side to it
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: as well. Uh. One of the reasons why Wendy Richelle
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Robinson is the lead actress to the movie. That's one
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: of my best friends. And you know how far I
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: go back. Um, yeah, so I brought her to the table. Um. Uh.
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: Angie Stone plays my sister on My My show in
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: the cut, and she's doing the soundtrack for the movie
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: as well well along with little Mama um. So you know,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: to be able to bring those types of of people
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: to the project, it just enhances it. And you know,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: I feel amazing that I'm a part of that. Now
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: we're talking about fruits of the heart. Correct, Okay, Now,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: now another name that I gotta mentioned. It is my
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: boy Clifton Pole, not Clifton Pole, and y'all came, y'all,
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: y'all care the same amount of love in my heart
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: as far as longevity in the business, and Cliff is
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: a little option to you. He's opposed from you because
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: you're you. You cut your key, your teeth and and
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: and comedy, and now he's transition over to more lighthearted opportunities.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: He cut his teeth in drama, right and he's transcentionstion
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: over there, you know what I'm saying. So it's really
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: interesting watching you guys becoming like that's so much shifts
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: in the night, but showing you how you have to
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: adjust your career in order the last in this business. Yes, yes, yeah, Clifton.
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: That's that's my boy right there. And what you see
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: is what you did that that's a true brother in
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: this industry who has paved the way for a lot
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: of brothers. But we worked together way back, um with
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: a movie that I did called um a Weekend with
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: the Family and uh we directed and written by Christope.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: I saw that. I saw that. I saw that. I
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: saw you know, I saw that one the crazy fan,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: the Asian mama, the Asian mama. I'm telling you, I'll
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: tell you, Dory, I don't miss you on TV. Brother.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: I'm a fan of yours. Brother. I saw that. That
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: was all my boy, because my boy from our immature
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: was in that movie to exactly exactly. But yes, Christo
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: directed and wrote that along with Marcus Houston. UM, and
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: we had a great time. But Clinton and Wendy brought
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: the fundy funny as always, um and I played the
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: opposite of them. Uh kind of businessman who you know
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: his son. Uh it wasn't good enough for my daughter.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: And they're gonna get married right right right. That was
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: a great, very funny. It's on Netflix if you want
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: to watch his own Netflix. It's a great watch doing
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: these times, especially if you want to get some some
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: good lighthearted spirit and some good fun and and and
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: that that that that that Cliff Paul, he's over the
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: top and there too. He's over the top. He's over
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: the top. Now that's the beautiful part about these relationships.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: Let's let's get back to the series that that that's
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: on Wednesdays an a pm Eastern. It's gonna bounce TV network.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: It is called in the Cut And I gotta I'll
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: be remiss if I don't mention my boy Bentley Evans,
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: who created the show man. Uh you know when I
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: say White's special to me, brought me on to the
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: Jamie Foxx Show as a co executive producer. One of
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: the major moves in my life in this business because
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: you gotta have people help me. He's African American guy.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: And and so let's talk you've been on the show
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: before talking about in the cut updated because you mentioned
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: Andrew Stone and Just Stone, who's crazy by the way,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: in real life and on this TV show. You know,
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: if you don't know Andrew Stone and Stone crazy, Okay,
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: a good crazy. That's my girl, my sister on the show.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: But let let me go back to to Bethley. Um,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: that is another one of those relationships that that you know,
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: you you don't have those types of relationships in this business.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: Uh that often they come far and few between. Bentley
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: is that dude who is groundbreaking for one and he
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: never forgets somebody and you are a part of that
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: that that family, that niche. But I worked with him
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: many many years ago on Martin and everybody that is
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: associated with our show has worked with him in the
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: past and some capacity or another. Um, but it's a
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: beautiful niche. Khalida Khalida Smith plays my my wife on
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: the show. And many of you guys know Khalida from
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: the Bernie Max Show. She played the wife on the
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: Bernie Max Show. UM. John Marshall Jones, he was the
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: father on A Smart Guy, UM, and he placed my
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: side in the barbershop. And uh. Rounding out the cast
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: is Ken Lawson, who my comperend from the Partners though,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: so we go that far back and that's my dude
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: right there. I have worked with him for almost twenty
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: five years and I have never seen this cat come
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: in mad, angry, upset or what have you. Um, you know,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: always a good vibe and or you know, just um
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: and and if he does, we don't know it. Right,
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: Let's put it out, you know, I said, guy delivers
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: the line to professional and uh, but I got I
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: got I gotta bring up Lara Hayes now Miss Laura.
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: She is hilarious on the show that that's my girl
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: right there, but she kind of ground to everybody and
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: just this is the stuff that you don't see from
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: Laura on the show is some of the funniest is
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: But anyway, Um, so it's a great cast. Also Dorian
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: Brnand who plays uh Kalitau's sidekick in her beauty salon.
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: But it's a wonderful cast. Everybody has been in the
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: business for umpteen years and so we have to, um
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: have that foundation we've all worked together before. Because we
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: do thirteen episodes in eleven days, third episodes in eleven days. Yeah,
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: it is. It is a killer, is it? Long? Are
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: the days where we have well week to shoot an
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: appisode you know in front of yes, yes, yeah, in
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: front of the audience, live audience, not cranking this out.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I have anywhere from ten to uh seventeen scenes a day, um,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: and it's you know, it's long hours. But we already
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: have that foundation, um, and everybody's professional, so we're we're
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: able to you know, crank it out and get it done.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Anything enables me to do a lot of other things. Um,
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: you know for the rest of the year. We just
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: finished our seventh season. Awesome, awesome. Then some of the
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: guests got the girl Little Nell coming on the show
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: this year. If anybody saw Dollarmite is my main it's
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: my name. God, just Little Nell is one of those.
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: The fact that you have Little Nail and Lord Hayes
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: on the set at the same time, it had to
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: be Yeah, it's crazy, you have to separate them and
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: like a little kid, but just a comedy. I mean
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: they throughout the script basically with it, you know. And
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: that's why listen, let's just back up and tell people
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: a little bit of history about ben Levans. BN Levin
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: was created The Mardern Show, so he's used to working
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: with a star who improvs. He created the Jamie Fox Show,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: so he's used to working with another star who improv
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: so we and comedians, so he's used to working in
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: an environment of trusting these individuals. So when so when
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: Dorian says, you know, they all scripted, they throughout the script,
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: that's a good thing because he's allowing them to do
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: their thing and bring the best funny possible and trusting
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: the ability to pull it off. That's awesome. That's awesome,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: That's what I said. He know, he knows all of us.
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: We have incredible writers who write for us as uh people, um,
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: not just actors, um you know, our characters or whatever.
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: But they know what Dorian strengths are and so they'll
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: incorporate that in the script. So what we try to
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: do is get what they put on paper first and
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: then gets this opportunity the Just and seven and you
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: know some of that stuff is the funniest stuff. Awesome.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: Now then you got to my girl Yo Yo from
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Kamrka and love and hip Hop Hollywood on the show. Uh,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: you know, just just just this is this is really
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: a wonderful story we're telling about, uh, you know, people
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: working together. Because throughout our whole interview we just talked
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: about relationships. We talked about longevity. We're talking about transitional talent.
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: Uh not you know under standing there. Hey, I will
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: not be pigeonholed just to be an actor. I want
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: to learn behind the scene, even though there's more work
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: involved than going behind the scenes. But in the end,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: it's always good when you own the set at this
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: stage now knowing exactly what's going on, behind the set,
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: isn't it, Doring? Yeah, almost definitely. Uh. You know it's
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: so important to learn all parts of the craft. Um.
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: So you have the longevity, you know, I I did
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: the acting thing for many many years. I want to
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: write directed as well. Um so you know, um so
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: I can keep on staying in this business because you know,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: being for real, they you know, there are far a
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: few um parts for African American that you know for certain.
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: Um you know, in your gendre, in your your age group,
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: your your ethnicity. Um that's why. That's why whenever I
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: see you, right, so, whenever I see your TV or
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: the film, Doring, I'm watching because I'm I'm giving you
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: all my Nielsen opportunities, all my flip views, anything that's
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: anything that's on line, if and I'm gonna post you
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: on my social media, you know, because that's how you
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: know that that you know the thing about it is
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: that I love you as a person, I love I
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: respect you as an individual, and and and to bring
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: you on this show as part of my process, you know,
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: just just giving more opportunities to to just create make
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: you relevant, make you relevant. Your brand has has hass endless.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: Uh you know, if we went back and show what
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: you did on The Parkers, you'll be funny. If we
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: went back and show what you did on the Steve
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: har sitcom, you'll be funny. If you want to go
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: to the Netflix movies, we just will talk about He's
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: gonna be funny. If you want to go to the
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Chairs to Day and go Rushan won't line when he
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: came on the screen gentry calling the gentry right right,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: all right, I'm not but you're not gonna do it.
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: Come on my show and act like I'm gonna fake
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: this interview. I'm not gonna fake this interview. He's at
