- 0:26Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Here we go. Hi, I'm Rashan McDonald.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I host the weekly money Making Conversation master last show.
- 0:41Speaker 4: The interviews and information that this show provides are for everyone.
- 0:45Speaker 4: It's time to stop reading other people's success stories and
- 0:48Speaker 4: start living your own.
- 0:49Speaker 3: My guest is the legendary Ricky Smiling.
- 0:52Speaker 4: He's an incredible chef, comedian, actor, arthur, television host and
- 0:57Speaker 4: award winning radio host of the top rated nationally syndicated program,
- 1:01Speaker 4: The Ricky Smiley Morning Show.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Ricky has been a comedian for more than thirty years.
- 1:05Speaker 4: He's constant performing across the country and this year will
- 1:08Speaker 4: be shooting a stand up comedy special in his hometown
- 1:11Speaker 4: of Birmingham, Alabama.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Now, if you ever in Birmingham.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Alabama, you have to drop by his hometown comedy club
- 1:17Speaker 4: to start them on Monday nights where he regularly performs
- 1:21Speaker 4: and hosts his charaoke night.
- 1:24Speaker 3: That's sold out. It's sold out. Then they're eating chicken
- 1:27Speaker 3: and laughing.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Please welcome the money making covering Sension Masterclass showed the
- 1:31Speaker 4: incredible Ricky Smiley, my brother, my young brother, my friend brother.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Hey, what's up big bro? Hey?
- 1:41Speaker 5: First of all, I know you're trying to get the
- 1:44Speaker 5: intro and stuff right. A lot of people don't know.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Had it not been for you, it would not be
- 1:50Speaker 5: the Ricky Smider Morning Show. Thanks to you and your
- 1:54Speaker 5: influence and talking to Alfred and Missus Hughes when they
- 2:00Speaker 5: asked a question, who would be great to fill in
- 2:03Speaker 5: because y'alls going to another company'll and y'all said Ricky Snouley.
- 2:08Speaker 5: So I really appreciate the opportunity, and I just try
- 2:10Speaker 5: to take advantage of every opportunity that y'all have ever
- 2:14Speaker 5: provided for me.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So I appreciate you were shigning for everything.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Well, thank you, Ricky, thank you for being a mentor
- 2:18Speaker 5: and thank you for being a big brother.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Well, first of all.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Thank you because a lot of people get opportunities, Ricky,
- 2:24Speaker 4: you know that, and they don't understand the work that's involved,
- 2:28Speaker 4: because getting up every day all these years since we
- 2:31Speaker 4: gave you the opportunity can be challenging, can be frustrating,
- 2:35Speaker 4: and people walk away and go give half effort.
- 2:38Speaker 3: But you've established your brand in radio.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Tell the importanness of branding through the radio and how
- 2:45Speaker 4: you impact the community other than just being a funny guy.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Brandon is important.
- 2:51Speaker 5: One thing that does reshine to keep your name out there,
- 2:54Speaker 5: keep your brand out there. If you're lucky and blessed
- 2:58Speaker 5: enough to get stations like DL Steve myself different ones
- 3:05Speaker 5: every hour, at least two or three times an hour
- 3:08Speaker 5: your name is mentioned on the radio station. Somebody dropped
- 3:10Speaker 5: in the car, they hear your name. You know that's
- 3:13Speaker 5: that's good for your Brand's good for your social media.
- 3:15Speaker 5: That keep your your name presence with people. At the
- 3:18Speaker 5: top of the hour when they do the station I
- 3:20Speaker 5: d a home of the Ricky Smiley Morning Show or whatever,
- 3:26Speaker 5: and then they might play a clip or whatever. These
- 3:28Speaker 5: are in cars while people driving to work getting off work,
- 3:31Speaker 5: dropping the kids, or you know, when they're flipping radio station,
- 3:34Speaker 5: they hear your name. So when you show up at
- 3:36Speaker 5: a comedy club or whatever, it hurts your name so
- 3:39Speaker 5: much and it's a build up. People pay money and
- 3:42Speaker 5: they stand the line and they come out to see you.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Because it's not a lot of people that do radio
- 3:47Speaker 5: that still perform other than d L and myself that.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Have their own show, syndicated show.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Now, that's that's important that the business side see. I've
- 3:57Speaker 4: met Ricky Smiley.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Web back when he was just a young comedian that
- 4:01Speaker 3: wanted to be on stage to tell Joe. Now I'm
- 4:05Speaker 3: here Ricky Smile and the business man.
- 4:07Speaker 4: When did that part of Ricky Smile has started going
- 4:10Speaker 4: in front of the comedian.
- 4:14Speaker 5: People like you cussing people out on the phone every
- 4:18Speaker 5: other week. Yah yeah, yeah. I want everybody that's watching
- 4:21Speaker 5: this interview to see that this a very classy and
- 4:26Speaker 5: pleasant interview. As a matter of fact, when I came
- 4:28Speaker 5: on the interview, I had on a Nike T shirt
- 4:32Speaker 5: and Rashaan cursed at me and told me I need
- 4:37Speaker 5: to go put on a suit coat. Tired or told
- 4:39Speaker 5: them that, so I had to run run back to
- 4:41Speaker 5: my room and get dressed. People don't understand the relationship
- 4:45Speaker 5: without listen. You have to have somebody to coach you,
- 4:50Speaker 5: and coaching don't have to be kind. Nick Saban holler
- 4:53Speaker 5: at those guys all day, cussing out all week, but
- 4:56Speaker 5: then they.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Hold up the SEC championship at the end of the day. Day.
- 5:00Speaker 5: And if you don't have anybody mentoring you, somebody saying, hey,
- 5:03Speaker 5: go put on a shirt. Hey, okay, this is a
- 5:06Speaker 5: real this is an interview of our business. Go put
- 5:08Speaker 5: on a shirt and tie. You know what I'm saying.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I wasn't thinking or whatever, but I just appreciate. I
- 5:12Speaker 5: appreciate the correction. And Rashaana know I'm not sensitive. Get
- 5:16Speaker 5: in my face, curse me. I'll tell me what I
- 5:18Speaker 5: need to know. Don't let me walk around the party
- 5:20Speaker 5: with nothing in my nose. Give me some tissue, tell
- 5:23Speaker 5: me to go in the corner and blow my nose.
- 5:25Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. That's that's what a real
- 5:27Speaker 2: friend gonna do for you.
- 5:29Speaker 5: So people like yourself one of my top mentors, getting
- 5:34Speaker 5: at me about certain things and certain stuff on like
- 5:38Speaker 5: you'll call me if you see something on social media
- 5:41Speaker 5: saying hey, you, you should reconsider that you maybe you
- 5:43Speaker 5: should take that down.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Let's talk about that. Hell, you don't know unless you
- 5:48Speaker 2: have a coach. So I just appreciate everything.
- 5:50Speaker 5: But that's what turned you into a business, and having
- 5:53Speaker 5: a coach and having correction.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Well, you know your hometown guy, you know, and I've
- 5:57Speaker 4: been down to your house and I'm a let everybody
- 6:01Speaker 4: know when you come to Ricky Smiley house, come home, gry,
- 6:04Speaker 4: come homewark because.
- 6:05Speaker 3: He gets mad if you don't understand that.
- 6:08Speaker 4: He's you're coming to a hidden chef because if he
- 6:13Speaker 4: didn't do the RICKSI Morning Show, he'd be doing Ricky
- 6:15Speaker 4: Smiley Cooking Show.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Tell us about that. He's gonna walk you through the house.
- 6:19Speaker 3: He gonna take you out in the garage, show you
- 6:21Speaker 3: that extra refrigerator.
- 6:23Speaker 2: He gonna show you.
- 6:23Speaker 3: The shelves that looked like walmart Ricky. I love that.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Talk about the chicken and dumplins something I know.
- 6:33Speaker 3: So what did what did the cooking training come from?
- 6:36Speaker 3: What did that? I know you down home? Both tell
- 6:37Speaker 3: us about that.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Rason, I'm the oldest grand child, so I had to
- 6:42Speaker 5: help my grandma. You know, people would drop aunts and
- 6:46Speaker 5: uncles would drop their kids at my grandmother's for the summer,
- 6:51Speaker 5: so I had to help my grandmother prepare meals. I
- 6:54Speaker 5: got that kind of figuring out, like, well, why are
- 6:55Speaker 5: you doing that like that? Why don't you do that
- 6:58Speaker 5: like this? And and then this started making sense to
- 7:00Speaker 5: my grandmoma, you know, so I started getting in there.
- 7:03Speaker 5: And then it got to a point where my grandmother
- 7:06Speaker 5: got tired of argument and the kitchen. She said, well,
- 7:08Speaker 5: you where you cook the meal, will you go in
- 7:10Speaker 5: there and take out the part ropes? And I started
- 7:12Speaker 5: adding my own little seasonings and spices and.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Stuff too it.
- 7:16Speaker 5: And then it got to a point where my grandmother
- 7:19Speaker 5: wouldn't cook anymore. As a matter of fact, when my
- 7:22Speaker 5: grandparents got older, I would cook a lot of food.
- 7:25Speaker 5: At the beginning of the week, my grandparents would come
- 7:28Speaker 5: over with tougher wear bowls.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And then they would have dinner. For the rest of
- 7:33Speaker 2: the week.
- 7:33Speaker 5: I would cook for myself and both set for my
- 7:36Speaker 5: grandparents and we would divide the food.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Just before they all passed away, and.
- 7:41Speaker 5: They just really didn't have to cook anymore, so they
- 7:44Speaker 5: would warm up stuff.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:47Speaker 5: I just love to cook, and I started adding my
- 7:49Speaker 5: own little twisting and flavor to it. So I learned
- 7:53Speaker 5: how to get down and get down. Plus I'm trained
- 7:55Speaker 5: by an executive chef. I am trained Kurt Boudreaux, chef
- 8:01Speaker 5: Gennar Uh. They are giving me some wonderful recipes and
- 8:05Speaker 5: gotten in the kitchen with me and taught me a
- 8:08Speaker 5: lot of techniques and a lot of things about seasoning
- 8:11Speaker 5: and flavoring and making sure that your food is good,
- 8:14Speaker 5: you know, helping me, coaching me in and cooking.
- 8:17Speaker 4: So but I share a name like pastor body there's
- 8:19Speaker 4: into Burman and market. Not trying to connect the two.
- 8:22Speaker 4: But church church, you are a church boar. You start
- 8:27Speaker 4: your show every day with a gospel song. Why is
- 8:30Speaker 4: that important?
- 8:30Speaker 3: Ricky?
- 8:32Speaker 2: Uh? First of all, shout out the past.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Uh uh uh Pastor Mike, Uh, he lived, he lived
- 8:38Speaker 5: one street over.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Her right there. Let me show Let me show you
- 8:46Speaker 2: where his house here? Now? Uh uh?
- 8:55Speaker 5: You know you know sign before we eat before black folks,
- 8:59Speaker 5: before we eat, we honor God. Before we travel, we
- 9:03Speaker 5: ask God for traveling grace. And you know, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 5: before you do a morning show, you don't know what
- 9:10Speaker 5: kind of date somebody's having, what kind of morning somebody's having.
- 9:13Speaker 2: You don't know what somebody went through that night.
- 9:15Speaker 5: And I always told God, if I ever had my
- 9:17Speaker 5: own morning show, I was gonna always open up and
- 9:20Speaker 5: on him. So those first fifteen minutes on my morning show,
- 9:23Speaker 5: I'm giving you, giving God the praise that he deserved,
- 9:27Speaker 5: woke us up this morning and closed on our right mind.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Things might not be perfect, but we just putting a
- 9:35Speaker 5: lot of hope in people giving you know, and God
- 9:38Speaker 5: honors that, you know when you give him praise like
- 9:41Speaker 5: that every single morning on the syndicated show. Sometimes God
- 9:45Speaker 5: minister the people through you, and I mixed uping new
- 9:49Speaker 5: with the own because I'm gonna have me. You know,
- 9:52Speaker 5: I'll play like all of the up to day artists,
- 9:55Speaker 5: but I promise you, I promise you every morning I'm
- 9:59Speaker 5: gonna have some Plano's tenors in Alto.
- 10:02Speaker 3: That's the morning show for a repart.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I get up at four thirty old school and doing
- 10:07Speaker 4: Steve Hard Morning Show all those years, I still get
- 10:09Speaker 4: up like I'm doing the morning show at six and
- 10:11Speaker 4: six am. I get up at four thirty. Ain't nobody
- 10:14Speaker 4: wants to get up before thirty, you know that, Rick? Yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 4: But what gets me rolling? I'm on your social media feed.
- 10:21Speaker 3: I follow Ricky Smiley feed on Facebook. If you have not.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Liked him or follow him, you're missing some of the
- 10:32Speaker 4: funniest social media post in the country. In the country, Ricky,
- 10:38Speaker 4: you literally if you don't make me laugh, you make
- 10:42Speaker 4: me smile. Oh, you make me say that boy's a food,
- 10:45Speaker 4: that boy's crazy, that boy's stupid, that boy's ignorant. How
- 10:51Speaker 4: the consistency of them. Sometimes the other day when you
- 10:55Speaker 4: had the lady or the lady the fat feet.
- 11:03Speaker 2: When I when I put this, just blessed.
- 11:09Speaker 4: It's just a simple taught process, Ricky. Where is all
- 11:13Speaker 4: this ignorance coming from? Ricky on your Facebook page? And
- 11:17Speaker 4: nikas posting consistently.
- 11:20Speaker 5: In the bed waking up in the middle of the
- 11:22Speaker 5: night thinking the stupid stuff, thinking the crazy stuff and
- 11:25Speaker 5: funny stuff. If I laugh out loud in my bedroom,
- 11:28Speaker 5: next thing, you know, I said, Okay, I'm gonna post
- 11:30Speaker 5: this in the morning. Sometimes, yeah, I think I'm posting
- 11:33Speaker 5: around five, between five and six am.
- 11:36Speaker 2: My first post. I have to hit them hard, something
- 11:39Speaker 2: something real funny.
- 11:40Speaker 5: But yeah, when I posted that the lady feet and
- 11:43Speaker 5: a lot of time you look at the feet and
- 11:45Speaker 5: you know, you see what the feet is and how
- 11:47Speaker 5: the feet look. You don't have to make fun of
- 11:49Speaker 5: the feat. You just say this just blessed me.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Oh you know what. This is what a bad day
- 11:59Speaker 3: look like, right right? Right?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah? Man, rashon social media is so important.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Keeping your fans and your followers entertained or whatever. Social
- 12:13Speaker 5: media helped to sell out shows post on media that
- 12:16Speaker 5: you're performed somewhere. A lot of gigs that you get
- 12:19Speaker 5: because you got followers. So when you get the followers,
- 12:22Speaker 5: you have to keep them entertained and get your little
- 12:26Speaker 5: help to help you run your social media to make
- 12:28Speaker 5: sure that you don't make any mistakes and get kicked off,
- 12:31Speaker 5: face broken, all that kind of stuff that you're operating correctly.
- 12:35Speaker 2: But yeah, it's a lot of.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Fun now social media. You could be anywhere you be
- 12:40Speaker 3: in New York.
- 12:40Speaker 4: You can follow them for social media and get those
- 12:43Speaker 4: huge labs that I get every morning. But if you
- 12:46Speaker 4: want to see it for real, the raw version, the
- 12:50Speaker 4: improvisational version, the impromptu talent that shouldn't be on stage,
- 12:55Speaker 4: and a lot of talent that should be on stage,
- 12:58Speaker 4: go to Birmingham, Alabama on a Monday night Stardom and
- 13:03Speaker 4: he will show you the gifts that God gave him
- 13:07Speaker 4: at that Carraoke Night talk to tell him about it, Ricky,
- 13:10Speaker 4: come on, oh.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Man, Carryoke Night is great. I got a co host
- 13:13Speaker 5: named Big Chris.
- 13:16Speaker 3: That ain't everybody.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Everybody loved Big Chris, Big Chris. I think Big Chris
- 13:22Speaker 5: be thirty four on his on his next birthday. Thanks
- 13:25Speaker 5: Birthday coming up sometime February and March something like that.
- 13:29Speaker 5: But that's my co host right on Karaoke Night. And
- 13:33Speaker 5: I know how to keep Chris in lane. You know,
- 13:37Speaker 5: Chris is a distraction and Big Chris it's a challenge.
- 13:42Speaker 5: It's a challenge, but I know how to. I know
- 13:45Speaker 5: how to keep him in lane because you know we
- 13:50Speaker 5: are a good conversation on CARRYO.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more Money
- 13:55Speaker 6: Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making Conversations
- 14:00Speaker 6: Masterclass hosted by Rashaan McDonald.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Now, if you you go to Ricky Smiler dot com
- 14:06Speaker 4: and you scroll down and he has video clips of
- 14:09Speaker 4: current uh Monday Night performances that stood out that night.
- 14:14Speaker 4: So just in case you can't get down there, just
- 14:16Speaker 4: go to Ricky Smiler dot com.
- 14:18Speaker 3: He's just going shine really do follow me? Yes, I do.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Brother, Hey, Hey, that means that means I've been doing
- 14:27Speaker 5: everything right because I had got no text something wrong.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Boy.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Well you know, you know it's like it's like if
- 14:35Speaker 5: Rashaan called, you just gonna look at the phone.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I know, I know. Take that.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Smith said, come on, Rashan, why are you calling me? Stephen, Stephen,
- 14:48Speaker 3: That's all just a couple of things I want to
- 14:50Speaker 3: say to your brother. That's all just I love you.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Just held. Just give me a minute to talk before
- 14:55Speaker 3: you come in. Because in the.
- 14:57Speaker 4: End, you know, even with Steve Harvey and any else
- 15:00Speaker 4: I'm involved in my life, I understand crisis management. I
- 15:04Speaker 4: understand the next step, the six months down the line,
- 15:08Speaker 4: the three months down loud. It might be funny now
- 15:10Speaker 4: the repercussions of it. I'm not saying you've done anything
- 15:13Speaker 4: disasters like I just try to just get in everybody's
- 15:16Speaker 4: ears that I love, that I believe in. That makes
- 15:18Speaker 4: the difference, because you want of these people can elect presidents,
- 15:21Speaker 4: you want of these people can raise funds for a community.
- 15:25Speaker 3: You want of the black voices that we.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Have at the next generation is because you know the
- 15:29Speaker 4: al Sharptons, the Jesse Jackson's and Andrew Young's. That group
- 15:34Speaker 4: either near the grave or their voices irrelevant to the
- 15:38Speaker 4: community that we're.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Talking to nowadays.
- 15:41Speaker 4: You know, we say rappers out there killing each other
- 15:43Speaker 4: and we try to reel all this in.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And you on a hip hop format, talk about your role.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Yeah, my role is to give you about as of funny,
- 15:53Speaker 5: spiritual and community and what.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Is it called pop culture?
- 16:01Speaker 5: So you know we're talking about what's going on, uh,
- 16:04Speaker 5: you know with with all these athletes and their relationships
- 16:07Speaker 5: and rappers and singers and their relationships.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Uh, stuff that's going on with with singers.
- 16:12Speaker 5: And you know Gary does that Uh uh Gary, Gary
- 16:17Speaker 5: with the tu man. There was a tense moment when
- 16:20Speaker 5: he when he when he came on there when Dionne
- 16:22Speaker 5: and and Tracy broke up, and he said that Tracy
- 16:26Speaker 5: Evans has entered the transferred portal.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Uh.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I threw I threw my headphones and got up
- 16:33Speaker 5: and walked out the room.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I was in tears.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Not the fact that I wasn't laughing at the fact
- 16:37Speaker 5: that they broke up, but the fact that Gary.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Said that they she chopped the transfer see resigning and you.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Know Brian is my friend, but man, that was funny.
- 16:51Speaker 5: But Prian, I'm sure you're not getting married because Prian
- 16:53Speaker 5: loved Gary. But but for Gary to say that she
- 16:57Speaker 5: jumped in the transfer portal, man, I think everybody this
- 17:00Speaker 5: polity to their headphone long and just went and stepped outside.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Uh and and everybody's just scattered because it was it
- 17:07Speaker 5: was that funny. But for him to put it into
- 17:09Speaker 5: that crist But we all will agree she's a five
- 17:12Speaker 5: star recruit.
- 17:13Speaker 3: We were all.
- 17:18Speaker 7: Whoam you see them videos with her decorating the Christmas
- 17:24Speaker 7: tree that with that blue dress.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Sun we shun.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Five star recruit?
- 17:34Speaker 4: Okay, Doc Alabama water un see water know the dame
- 17:41Speaker 4: wanna Georgia wanna everybody? She's in that transfer a portal.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Let me just tell you something about Ricky smile. Let's
- 17:51Speaker 4: let's move out the jokes. Professional, smart, educated, family man, honest.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Loyal to a fault.
- 18:01Speaker 4: But more importantly, he don't forget. He don't forget, and
- 18:06Speaker 4: he cared about your kids, even if he doesn't know
- 18:09Speaker 4: your kids. He cared about your family even if he
- 18:12Speaker 4: doesn't know your family. That's why that morning show I
- 18:17Speaker 4: had to fight and get him understand who he was
- 18:22Speaker 4: and what value he was going to bring and has
- 18:24Speaker 4: been bringing to the table the last two decades of
- 18:27Speaker 4: being on the radio.
- 18:29Speaker 3: He didn't see that back then, but I think he
- 18:31Speaker 3: understands it now.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I got it now, and I appreciate it.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I really really really appreciate it and grateful for the
- 18:41Speaker 5: opportunity we on some of the big stay We're on

- 19:31Speaker 8: we're definitely in Houston on a big station in Houston.
- 19:35Speaker 2: As a matter of.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Fact, Now, book are rumors that Ricky Smileley wants to
- 19:42Speaker 4: be an author. I said it in the credits for
- 19:44Speaker 4: the Next Level talk about that I wrote one.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Book called stand By Your Truth. I just wrote another book.
- 19:53Speaker 5: I'm so excited about it. And if I'm not mistaking
- 19:56Speaker 5: this topic that I mean, the title is going to
- 19:58Speaker 5: be side Show. Uh you remember show step step right
- 20:04Speaker 5: up her Hey can't afford to pass it by, but guaranteed.
- 20:15Speaker 2: So it shows the happy side and the sad side.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Considering that twenty twenty twenty three, I had something to
- 20:26Speaker 5: go on with all.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Of my kids.
- 20:29Speaker 5: My oldest son passed away, my daughter gave birth, and
- 20:35Speaker 5: both of my younger two kids graduated college in one
- 20:38Speaker 5: graduate college and pledge.
- 20:39Speaker 2: AKA.
- 20:41Speaker 5: So it's been it's been twenty twenty three has been.
- 20:45Speaker 2: It's been like that.
- 20:46Speaker 5: I've been dealing with depression, sadness, anxiety.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Losing a child is.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Something I would never wish on anybody. This time of year,
- 20:58Speaker 5: you know, the holidays are are really hard. I've been
- 21:02Speaker 5: getting therapy twice a week, learning how to sit in
- 21:07Speaker 5: my feelings instead of just finding something to do and
- 21:10Speaker 5: blocking it out of my head.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Because it's still there.
- 21:12Speaker 5: It's a possible, and it's gonna come out one way
- 21:14Speaker 5: or the other. So I had to learn how to
- 21:16Speaker 5: sit in my feelings and just sit right here in
- 21:19Speaker 5: this chair about this fireplace and cry it out.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And I'm talking about sitting in this house.
- 21:25Speaker 5: If you was a fly on the wall and saw
- 21:33Speaker 5: me sit by myself at this table and cry for
- 21:38Speaker 5: hours in hours and just just cry, you know, trying
- 21:46Speaker 5: to get that, get that out of my system. Because
- 21:51Speaker 5: losing a kid or shunning the bills don't stop coming.
- 21:54Speaker 5: I still got to get up the new radio because
- 21:56Speaker 5: other people have lost kids.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Also. My son was thirty two.
- 22:01Speaker 5: But I did carry ok last night and there was
- 22:04Speaker 5: a lady and her husband sitting in the audience just
- 22:06Speaker 5: trying to enjoy the husband's birthday because they got to
- 22:08Speaker 5: bury there of twenty five year old son Saturday. So
- 22:12Speaker 5: who are you, Who are you not to get up
- 22:16Speaker 5: and get on the radio and inspire somebody just because
- 22:20Speaker 5: you suffered the loss from people going through worse twenty
- 22:22Speaker 5: five my son, God gave me.
- 22:24Speaker 2: I look at it like God gave me.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Extra years because my son could have died when he
- 22:28Speaker 5: was twenty five.
- 22:29Speaker 2: He could have died when he was seventeen, you know,
- 22:32Speaker 2: And a lot of time.
- 22:33Speaker 5: Man, God, all of this stuff, at the end of
- 22:36Speaker 5: the day is a test. How are you going to
- 22:38Speaker 5: handle this situation?
- 22:39Speaker 3: Now?
- 22:39Speaker 5: You gonna make this situation about you? Are you gonna
- 22:42Speaker 5: use the situation to get better, to get close of
- 22:44Speaker 5: the God, bring other people close to the God, and
- 22:46Speaker 5: help other people with their situation. And so my son
- 22:51Speaker 5: died on a Sunday. They told me to take as
- 22:52Speaker 5: much time as I need. That Wednesday, I was back
- 22:55Speaker 5: on the air and I cried in between the songs.
- 22:59Speaker 5: I cried doing Mercy Break, but I thugged it out
- 23:02Speaker 5: and I stayed on the radio and did what I.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Had to do.
- 23:04Speaker 5: And I went and served the homes at the Salvation
- 23:07Speaker 5: Army that Wednesday before his funeral. I thank God for
- 23:11Speaker 5: carrying me. I thank God for keeping me. I thank God.
- 23:14Speaker 5: If I never knew God.
- 23:15Speaker 2: A day of my life, I knew him January.
- 23:18Speaker 5: To twenty ninth, twenty twenty three. Because I didn't do
- 23:20Speaker 5: it by myself. God was carrying me. I couldn't walk
- 23:24Speaker 5: down the hall to get to the elevator to get
- 23:27Speaker 5: on the plane to get the Birnham.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I said God, if I can make it.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Down the hall, from my door to the elevator at
- 23:33Speaker 5: my apartment Complax in Dallas.
- 23:36Speaker 2: If you let me make it to the elevator.
- 23:38Speaker 5: I can make it because I promised God I was
- 23:41Speaker 5: about to pass out, and that's a fact.
- 23:43Speaker 3: I'm glad he allowed me that honest moment.
- 23:45Speaker 4: That's why I didn't want to interrupt, because our relationship
- 23:48Speaker 4: is about honesty. Our relationship about the truth. Let me
- 23:52Speaker 4: tell you the truth about this man. Incredible family, incredible father, parent.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I love it. Hey, Ricky, smile again.
