- 1:30Speaker 1: led by Tasha Page Lockhart and the second half of
- 1:33Speaker 1: the show my boy Lacrez joining. So let's get started.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I guess Hell's from Detroit, Michigan. That's my first guest,
- 1:39Speaker 1: multi time vocalist Tasha Page Lockhart. Tasha is the daughter
- 1:43Speaker 1: of award winning gospel singer Lisa Page Books of the
- 1:46Speaker 1: female group Witness Tasha Page two time Stellar Award winners.
- 1:50Speaker 1: To start, we TV's Growing in Gospel. It's the first

- 2:01Speaker 1: including depression and anxiety. We will discuss new projects that
- 2:05Speaker 1: she have coming up, because I want to know, I'm
- 2:06Speaker 1: pretty sure booking after I've seen this episode, these six episodes,
- 2:10Speaker 1: there's a book in her future. I'm just gonna I'm
- 2:12Speaker 1: not saying I'm some fortune teller, but there has to
- 2:14Speaker 1: be a book a Ouiji board. She's also active in
- 2:16Speaker 1: her community, working to support mental health awareness and advocacy,
- 2:20Speaker 1: something we will be talking about today for sure. Please
- 2:24Speaker 1: work with the Money Making Conversations masterclass for the first time.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Tasha Page Lockhart, how you doing, my.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Friend, I'm doing well. How were you?
- 2:32Speaker 4: Say? So?
- 2:32Speaker 1: If you're up in the Detroit you big d up
- 2:34Speaker 1: there at De Truit.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'm in Detroita. I'm born and raised here.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Oh absolutely.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know I've met there many times. You know, I
- 2:41Speaker 1: was managing Steve Harvey used to go up there and
- 2:43Speaker 1: do concert dates and do live event dates up there.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Some very familiar with Chicago and how has been renovated,
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know, how the downtown made a big comeback and
- 2:52Speaker 1: all those things. Now what you being born and raised
- 2:54Speaker 1: there what is the state of Detroit right now? Detroit, Michigan.
- 2:59Speaker 3: You know Detroit on the comeback. If you go to
- 3:02Speaker 3: look downtown, you'll see everything that they have been building
- 3:07Speaker 3: up the city downtown. It looks beautiful. It's amazing. And
- 3:10Speaker 3: it's not just you know how sometimes you know, the
- 3:13Speaker 3: other folks come and take over. That ain't the case
- 3:16Speaker 3: down here in Detroit. Such a mixed crowd.
- 3:19Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 3:19Speaker 3: You know Detroit, If I'm not mistaken, Detroit is about
- 3:24Speaker 3: eighty percent of African Americans. So there's no way you
- 3:28Speaker 3: could come to our city and not see you know,
- 3:31Speaker 3: they always talk about crime, and they try to talk
- 3:33Speaker 3: about how bad it is and all the negative things
- 3:35Speaker 3: in our city. But there are some very prominent business
- 3:38Speaker 3: owners and African American, wealthy black people in the city
- 3:43Speaker 3: of Detroit that are doing their thing. If you go
- 3:45Speaker 3: on livanoid, you'll see in the garment district, the fashion
- 3:49Speaker 3: district there all of the businesses and stores and coffee
- 3:53Speaker 3: shops and all kinds of things. We have a lot
- 3:55Speaker 3: of business owners and entrepreneurs here in the city of Detroit,
- 3:58Speaker 3: and so I'm proud of the city and what they're doing.
- 4:01Speaker 3: They have been tearing down a lot of the abandoned
- 4:03Speaker 3: home right, just really building the city up. So yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 3: I'm very proud of my city.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's really sad that stereotypes do tend
- 4:11Speaker 1: to lay itself on people of color, black people, brown people,
- 4:16Speaker 1: people want a stereotype because when you're stereotype, you know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: property value goes down, you know, the reason people want
- 4:23Speaker 1: to come. Tourism can go down. People can fear for
- 4:25Speaker 1: their lives, and that's been tragic to see that happen
- 4:29Speaker 1: to your city. But now it's making the comeback and
- 4:31Speaker 1: then you're part of you have to be extra proud
- 4:33Speaker 1: of that because I know for a fact, I was
- 4:35Speaker 1: fortunate to see the development of it coming around and
- 4:38Speaker 1: seeing the downtown and driving around seeing in Detroit, seeing
- 4:42Speaker 1: those abandoned buildings being torn down. So it's really a
- 4:45Speaker 1: proud moment for me to see they come back because
- 4:48Speaker 1: like you said, it is eighty percent black Detroit.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yes it is. Yeah, so I'm just about to be
- 4:54Speaker 3: from here. You know, whenever you tell somebody you're from Detroit,
- 4:57Speaker 3: they take great inside of you. That's period motown with
- 5:01Speaker 3: just being motor city. And then my grandfather was with Motown,
- 5:05Speaker 3: so he traveled with Barry Gordy. If you go to
- 5:07Speaker 3: a History of USA, you'll see my grandfather's picture on
- 5:10Speaker 3: the wall. He was in a group called the Monitors.
- 5:14Speaker 3: So you know, my family has a long, rich history
- 5:17Speaker 3: in the music scene, not just in God.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So you had no choice. You had no choice but
- 5:20Speaker 1: to sing as long as God gave you the talent, Tasha,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you had no choice but to sing.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Right, absolutely, so, I'm proud to be from Detroit.
- 5:30Speaker 1: You know, when I think about, you know, music, I
- 5:32Speaker 1: can't sing. You know, I got into the entertainment business,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Tasha as a stand up comedian. That's God gave me
- 5:38Speaker 1: that talent to be able to twitch words and make
- 5:40Speaker 1: people laugh real hard and got paid real well for it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But to sing, that's a special talent. When did you
- 5:47Speaker 1: realize you had the ability to sing? And was there
- 5:50Speaker 1: an option to do R and B instead of gospel?
- 5:54Speaker 3: You know, singing the most coveted talent and gift that
- 5:57Speaker 3: there is. Everybody always saying I wish I could sing.
- 6:00Speaker 3: If I could sing, I never shut up, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 3: people always say that when I realized I could sing,
- 6:06Speaker 3: I guess I would have to say I was in
- 6:09Speaker 3: elementary school. Actually, because a lot of people may not know,
- 6:12Speaker 3: but from the ages of seven to fourteen, I was
- 6:16Speaker 3: doing jingles and voiceovers from Major.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Coprien, Biscuit, Bisquit, you know all that stuff. Biscuit.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, some some that you may have recognized, they didn't
- 6:26Speaker 3: know it was me. I'm about to give you two
- 6:28Speaker 3: of them real quick. You ready, America's best selling many bands,
- 6:33Speaker 3: Dodge Caravan, that was that was one of my That
- 6:38Speaker 3: was one of them. I know you heard that before
- 6:40Speaker 3: I hear another one I first, So you're nine anyway,
- 6:44Speaker 3: the best way to care that was me as well.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I mean I've done so many So that was.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Because you know, you're talking to brother can't sing, but
- 6:54Speaker 1: that's a jingle. How does I remember when I had
- 6:56Speaker 1: Jamie Foxx show back in ninety nine, we made a
- 7:00Speaker 1: his character become a jingle writer, a jingle singer, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: a commercial agency. How do you get Do you have
- 7:06Speaker 1: to come in there and rehearse to be a jingle
- 7:08Speaker 1: singer or how does that work? Or they just bring
- 7:10Speaker 1: the option to you and you just cut it and
- 7:12Speaker 1: they just choose. How does that happen?
- 7:15Speaker 3: So I'm gonna take you on the journey real quick.
- 7:16Speaker 3: This is how my life has always been set up.
- 7:19Speaker 3: And I know this is not a gospel show, but
- 7:21Speaker 3: because I am a lover of Jesus Christ, I just
- 7:24Speaker 3: add Him into everything that I do. So you know,
- 7:26Speaker 3: I you know, I'm not gonna ask for forgiveness, but
- 7:29Speaker 3: you know I'm just gonna be I'm gonna be throwing
- 7:31Speaker 3: out some gems and I gotta I gotta speak and
- 7:33Speaker 3: brag on how good God is because this is how
- 7:36Speaker 3: my life has always been set up. I live by this,
- 7:38Speaker 3: and it's that every opportunity is an auditionip for something next.
- 7:42Speaker 3: So I was just a little girl that was always
- 7:44Speaker 3: in the studio when my parents would be working on
- 7:47Speaker 3: music right and so because I was in the right
- 7:49Speaker 3: place at the right time, they was like, oh, we
- 7:51Speaker 3: need a little girl to ConA do a christ A commercial.
- 7:54Speaker 3: So I went in the next rooman did the commercial.
- 7:56Speaker 3: When me and my mom, When me and my mom
- 8:00Speaker 3: the fear My Trailblazers Award Tribute to Mary Mary, I
- 8:04Speaker 3: was walking down the hall in my attorney at the time,
- 8:07Speaker 3: Attorney James Walker was coming down the hallway and he's
- 8:11Speaker 3: sent the casting director from Tyler Perry and he introduced us.
- 8:16Speaker 3: The rest is history. I did twenty Cities with Medea
- 8:19Speaker 3: on the run. Every opportunity is an audition for something else.
- 8:23Speaker 3: So it's just you have to be where you're supposed
- 8:26Speaker 3: to be. And that's the thing. When you're where you're
- 8:28Speaker 3: supposed to be, it's almost like you it's you're unstoppable.
- 8:33Speaker 3: But whenever you get out of place, when you come
- 8:36Speaker 3: off of the past, when you're not doing what you're
- 8:38Speaker 3: supposed to be doing, you're missing all of those moments
- 8:41Speaker 3: and you're missing all of those opportunities.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Well that's you know, that's important what you're saying, Tasha Page,
- 8:48Speaker 1: because see let me, let me break it down to everybody,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and it's about fear, because fear stopped a lot of people.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Like I said, you know, when you got every opportunity
- 8:58Speaker 1: you had, fear did not to did not succeed. It
- 9:02Speaker 1: ain't put doubt in you, it didn't make you question.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You just felt that God it placed you in the
- 9:07Speaker 1: right position and guess would you roll the strength of
- 9:10Speaker 1: your belief and you made it happen. Plus you have
- 9:13Speaker 1: the talent to do it as well. Correct.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Absolutely, you have to perfect your craft. You can't just
- 9:19Speaker 3: lean solely on Oh, the favor of God, or God's
- 9:22Speaker 3: gonna do it. God's gonna make a way. Yes he
- 9:24Speaker 3: doesn't make ways. Yes he will open doors. He will
- 9:26Speaker 3: put you on the minds of certain people. But when
- 9:29Speaker 3: you get there, when you walk through that door and
- 9:31Speaker 3: you stay in that phage, or you have to stand
- 9:34Speaker 3: behind that podium or get on those instruments, whatever it
- 9:37Speaker 3: is that you do in your field, you have to
- 9:40Speaker 3: show up. That means your waiting period. When you're waiting,
- 9:44Speaker 3: that has to be your preparation. You have to make
- 9:47Speaker 3: sure that you master master your craft. So do your research, study, study, study, practice, practice, practice,
- 9:55Speaker 3: whatever it may be. Get your Do you get media
- 9:58Speaker 3: training so you can know how to have yourself in interviews,
- 10:01Speaker 3: know how to handle yourself on red curtains. Do everything
- 10:05Speaker 3: they need to do so you can say my part
- 10:07Speaker 3: is done. No, okay, God, come on, it's on you.
- 10:10Speaker 1: You know, you know this is an entrepreneur show. And
- 10:13Speaker 1: when you said, rasheane, I'm gonna go there gospel, because
- 10:15Speaker 1: see what people understand is that I was talking to
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yolanda out at one time and she told me, she said,
- 10:19Speaker 1: reshine business and God get business in God the same conversation,
- 10:23Speaker 1: the same conversation, and I was trying to separate it.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I was trying to separate it. And when I hear
- 10:27Speaker 1: you talk, and that's why I'm just slowing you down.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Because every value that you every point that you just
- 10:32Speaker 1: talked about, people should use in the every day for
- 10:34Speaker 1: their week job, everything that. As an entrepreneur, if you're
- 10:38Speaker 1: starting a business, you should know your craft. You should
- 10:40Speaker 1: be willing to put into work. You should master your craft.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Everything that you're saying, even if you're saying Rashan, look
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna go there. I'mna tell her, I'm gonna show
- 10:48Speaker 1: my faith. But faith is tied to effort. Faith is
- 10:50Speaker 1: tied to planning. And I just want to let everybody know,
- 10:53Speaker 1: you know, what she's saying is replicated every day in life.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Whether you're a true believer of the faith or your
- 11:00Speaker 1: person who believes that don't understand how to marry the too,
- 11:02Speaker 1: it is the same. It's about effort, and that's about
- 11:05Speaker 1: a belief.
- 11:05Speaker 3: And passion absolutely, And it's about risk taking. It's about
- 11:09Speaker 3: what risks are you willing to take? In business, in faith,
- 11:13Speaker 3: in relationships, partnering, partnering with other people, you don't know
- 11:17Speaker 3: these people. It's taking a risk in relationships, you don't
- 11:21Speaker 3: know the person. I don't care how long you date somebody,
- 11:24Speaker 3: you don't really know them until after you marry them.
- 11:27Speaker 3: So it's all about risk taking. It's all about risk taking.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's really interesting to tell I'm talking
- 11:33Speaker 1: to Tasha Page, like, I'm just tell you something. She
- 11:35Speaker 1: can talk now, you know, I get a lot of
- 11:37Speaker 1: people on my show, but you can talk. And that's
- 11:40Speaker 1: a good thing because of the fact that you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: some people asking one question, it just they say yes,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and you go, okay, did they just say yes and
- 11:46Speaker 1: not add anymore to the yes? But see, you have
- 11:49Speaker 1: something to say and you're motivated to tell the truth.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And when you're talking about the truth, it's about overcoming
- 11:55Speaker 1: the odds. And you've had some ards you've had to
- 11:57Speaker 1: overcome in your life, but you don't let them win.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Some difficult moments that led you to depression and anxiety.
- 12:03Speaker 1: How were you able to come over those, overcome those
- 12:06Speaker 1: difficult moments in your past to have such a bright future.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Well, I wouldn't have ever been able to overcome any
- 12:12Speaker 3: type of difficult moments. If in want Number one wasn't
- 12:15Speaker 3: for God. And then you know, my upbringing, my family
- 12:18Speaker 3: brought me up in church, and then the track of
- 12:20Speaker 3: people that I have around me that hold me accountable,
- 12:23Speaker 3: that pour into me, that check on me, you know,
- 12:26Speaker 3: and then also just my want to. What I mean
- 12:28Speaker 3: by my want to is I do not care what
- 12:32Speaker 3: I'm going through in my life, what I'm faced with,
- 12:34Speaker 3: what I'm dealing with, what I'm up against. I want
- 12:38Speaker 3: to make it. I want to win. I want to
- 12:41Speaker 3: be healthy. I want to see myself sowing and thriving.
- 12:45Speaker 3: And you gotta want it. You gotta want that yourself
- 12:49Speaker 3: more than you more than you want to be famous,
- 12:52Speaker 3: and more than you want to have titles and a
- 12:53Speaker 3: big name, and more than you want some material things
- 12:56Speaker 3: you got. It's always an inside job. And so because
- 13:00Speaker 3: I'm my biggest fan, because I want to be I
- 13:03Speaker 3: want to be well, and I want to be whole
- 13:06Speaker 3: and healed, first of all for myself, so I can
- 13:08Speaker 3: be the best representation for God and for myself and
- 13:13Speaker 3: show up for myself and for my family and my
- 13:15Speaker 3: children and my eight month old granddaughter. Like I have
- 13:19Speaker 3: people that are depending on me, that are looking up
- 13:21Speaker 3: to me. Let alone I'm not even going getting into
- 13:25Speaker 3: the followers and the supporters and the people. Some of
- 13:27Speaker 3: the people I'll never meet, but they look to me
- 13:30Speaker 3: for wisdom. They look to me as an example, and
- 13:32Speaker 3: you know that's a big responsibility. So I have to
- 13:36Speaker 3: say that's how I made it, putting God first, but
- 13:38Speaker 3: then also wanting it so bad that I was willing
- 13:42Speaker 3: to do the work to get it.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And that's important. I'll tell you she can talk. But
- 13:47Speaker 1: guess what when we come back from this break now,
- 13:50Speaker 1: we're going to talk about the first season of we
- 13:53Speaker 1: TV's Grown in Gospel and they doing some things over that. No,
- 13:57Speaker 1: Fred Hammond daughter, You're about to learn some things about Fred.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Am about to learn a few more things about mcgirl,
- 14:02Speaker 1: Tasha and her maid in her life. You know, they
- 14:05Speaker 1: break it down, my boy, Jay Brooks, Elijah, Shana. I
- 14:10Speaker 1: know them all now because I watched the whole season. Now,
- 14:12Speaker 1: they haven't renewed it yet, but they put all that
- 14:14Speaker 1: stuff out in the public now, So I hope it
- 14:16Speaker 1: gets renewed because they put everything out there in the
- 14:18Speaker 1: first season. We'll be right back for Mcgirl, Tasha Page Lockhart.
- 14:28Speaker 5: We'll be right back with more money making Conversations Masterclass
- 14:32Speaker 5: with Rashawn McDonald.
- 14:35Speaker 6: You are now tuned into the Money Making Conversations Minute
- 14:38Speaker 6: of Inspiration with Rashawn McDonald's.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Grammar Award nominated singer Kiera Sheer Kelly's new book, Big,
- 14:45Speaker 1: Bold and Beautiful, Owning the Woman God Made You to
- 14:48Speaker 1: Be is a must read as she shares her advice
- 14:51Speaker 1: on body positivity, goal setting, and leading with your gifts.
- 14:55Speaker 7: Everything should not be taken personally. So I absolutely agree
- 14:58Speaker 7: with you. And if we don't have that understand and
- 15:00Speaker 7: if we're always taking things personally, we'll always be responding
- 15:03Speaker 7: to any and everything to where it'll take so much
- 15:06Speaker 7: energy it'll shift our focus off of what we really
- 15:09Speaker 7: should be focused on. And so I have had to
- 15:11Speaker 7: learn that the picture is bigger than me. It's so
- 15:15Speaker 7: far beyond one moment, like be a student at every
- 15:18Speaker 7: opportunity you get. But even in the book I talk
- 15:21Speaker 7: about it, it's a chapter called making the most of
- 15:24Speaker 7: Every Opportunity.
- 15:25Speaker 1: If you were to hear this full interview with Kira
- 15:27Speaker 1: shared Kelly, visit Money Making Conversations dot com. Keep winning.
- 15:34Speaker 5: Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashaan McDonald.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Welcome back to money making conversation. I'm talking to Tasha
- 15:42Speaker 1: Page Lockhart, incredible singer, going to sing. You know, it's
- 15:46Speaker 1: one of those things you do. You have an option,
- 15:48Speaker 1: you know, you know. She came out singing, singing jingles,
- 15:51Speaker 1: just walking down the hall being got on tour ordinate
- 15:54Speaker 1: with Medea. That's Tyler Perry Medea just walking down the hall.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Got that ready. Somebody tapped on the show. She read
- 16:01Speaker 1: Gene jump back and go, oh my god. She said, when,
- 16:03Speaker 1: how and how come? All those things led to her
- 16:06Speaker 1: to understand that if you follow your belief, follow faith,
- 16:09Speaker 1: then great things can happen. That's what I preach on
- 16:11Speaker 1: this show, but she's given it a different spin on.
- 16:13Speaker 1: It's about effort, planning and goals. She is ready. She
- 16:17Speaker 1: wakes up in the morning prepare for success, and with success,
- 16:20Speaker 1: the opportunity comes her way. Tasha's ready. That's what I
- 16:23Speaker 1: love about you. And when I was reading your bio
- 16:26Speaker 1: or reading your history and like before the show, I
- 16:28Speaker 1: called her because I wanted her to hear my voice.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I want to let her know what type of show
- 16:31Speaker 1: did I do? Because I never interviewed her before. Because
- 16:34Speaker 1: I wanted to come on with this type of energy,
- 16:35Speaker 1: so she could understand that this is a positive show
- 16:38Speaker 1: and your energy, Tasha is incredible. Is it always been
- 16:42Speaker 1: like this?
- 16:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, this is who I am? You know, this
- 16:46Speaker 3: is this is who I am. And then going back
- 16:48Speaker 3: to what you were saying about, you know, struggles and
- 16:50Speaker 3: going through things. That's how my family knew that I
- 16:54Speaker 3: was going through because they were like, wait a minute,
- 16:56Speaker 3: you've changed. You know, I've always been bubbly. I've always
- 16:59Speaker 3: been very talkative. I'm a communicator. I love to talk.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I'm a people person, so I'm always making somebody laugh
- 17:05Speaker 3: and you know, just fun to be around. And so
- 17:08Speaker 3: when life started license and my personality started to become
- 17:13Speaker 3: altered because of what I was dealing with, that's how
- 17:16Speaker 3: they knew something was going on.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's really interesting. When I was watching
- 17:19Speaker 1: the show and you know, you know, I know Fred Hammond,
- 17:23Speaker 1: you know many times came on the Steve Harry Morning Show,
- 17:26Speaker 1: and then you you know my boy Kurt Franklin. You know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: it's so many names, and just read a minute of
- 17:33Speaker 1: inspiration with my girl care Shared and it's Londa Adams
- 17:38Speaker 1: has just brought up her name. It's just so much.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I've walked that walk with so many people. They've shared
- 17:43Speaker 1: their stories with me that really make me realize how
- 17:47Speaker 1: how I'm able to communicate, and communicating with you is
- 17:50Speaker 1: such a key element to that. So when you're making
- 17:53Speaker 1: the decision to making these career moves, Tasha, what goes
- 17:57Speaker 1: to your mind because I'm about to go into this
- 17:59Speaker 1: reality that you're doing on week? What made you go
- 18:02Speaker 1: into that direction and what prompted you to say this
- 18:05Speaker 1: is good for my career.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Well, you know a lot of people were saying that
- 18:10Speaker 3: don't do what Tasha is going to be career suicide.
- 18:12Speaker 3: You're in the gospel music industry, and you know reality
- 18:15Speaker 3: TV is so messy and this isn't and I have
- 18:17Speaker 3: to really stop and I prayed about it, and it
- 18:21Speaker 3: has with anything that I do, have to line up
- 18:23Speaker 3: with my purpose. I can't be money driven, I can't
- 18:26Speaker 3: be saying driven, I can't be any of those things.
- 18:29Speaker 3: It has to line up with my purpose. And you know,
- 18:32Speaker 3: the Bible talks about confessing your thoughts one to another.
- 18:35Speaker 3: It also talks about the power of confession. You know,
- 18:39Speaker 3: they overcame by the word of their testimony and the
- 18:41Speaker 3: blood of the Lamb in Revelation and twelfth chapter. And
- 18:44Speaker 3: so this was an opportunity for me to be transparent
- 18:47Speaker 3: and show the truth about my life, where I was
- 18:50Speaker 3: in my life at that time and now to see
- 18:53Speaker 3: where I am today. That is showing how God literally
- 18:57Speaker 3: turned my life around in less than a year. And
- 18:59Speaker 3: so it's just all made sense for me to be
- 19:01Speaker 3: able to do the show. I didn't. I was never scared.
- 19:03Speaker 3: I was never nervous of being black bater, canceled or
- 19:07Speaker 3: anything because I wasn't outing anybody and I wasn't dashing
- 19:10Speaker 3: anybody or talking down on anybody else. I didn't go
- 19:13Speaker 3: on the show for a controversy or mess I went
- 19:16Speaker 3: on there to tell the truth about my life. And
- 19:18Speaker 3: the fact is, life within itself can be messy. So
- 19:22Speaker 3: I didn't have to contrive a story, make nothing up.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I didn't have to cust nobody out and throw no
- 19:27Speaker 3: drinks for nobody. Nothing.
- 19:29Speaker 1: You did not, you did not it is and you
- 19:32Speaker 1: walked out of their lawyer's office. You know you was
- 19:34Speaker 1: in tears and lawyer didn't know what to do. I
- 19:37Speaker 1: thought that was an honest moment when you were talking
- 19:38Speaker 1: about your life and realizing that it was going in
- 19:41Speaker 1: this different direction when you was trying to get back
- 19:43Speaker 1: with your husband, trying to reconcile, you know, and then
- 19:46Speaker 1: when your friend came over, Nikki, I believe the road
- 19:49Speaker 1: manager came over. You're talking about what happened.
- 19:52Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:53Speaker 1: One thing about these shows is that they always makes
- 19:56Speaker 1: me nervous. Tasha is Dad. You got your story, then
- 19:59Speaker 1: you bring all these other people in and they got
- 20:01Speaker 1: their story too. How does that reflect on you? Like,
- 20:04Speaker 1: for instance, Brea her story. Now, I don't know what producer.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I don't know why Brie had to tell everybody that
- 20:11Speaker 1: she was a stripper. Nobody didn't do that. Why Brie
- 20:14Speaker 1: had to say that, I don't know. But these are
- 20:17Speaker 1: the type of things that can you can sell on
- 20:19Speaker 1: these shows. They work for the show, but they might
- 20:23Speaker 1: work for your career. And I'm not saying that was
- 20:25Speaker 1: a negative, but sometimes you have to understand that they
- 20:29Speaker 1: do have ramifications. Is that a correct word used in
- 20:32Speaker 1: that situation?
- 20:34Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah? You know, everything comes with the consequence, whether
- 20:36Speaker 3: good or bad, right, and you have to consider those
- 20:39Speaker 3: things before you do it. And then sometimes you know
- 20:41Speaker 3: you're getting your feelings or it's you gotta be careful
- 20:43Speaker 3: because when you're sitting in a room with six of
- 20:46Speaker 3: your friends and people you've been knowing twenty plus years
- 20:49Speaker 3: or more, and you got a mic on you, sometimes
- 20:52Speaker 3: you're not thinking because you're like, Okay, I'm sitting here
- 20:54Speaker 3: with my BFF or this is my brother, this is
- 20:56Speaker 3: we're just talking. So that's why it's tricky with reality
- 20:59Speaker 3: TV US. They cannot edit something you never said. But
- 21:03Speaker 3: if it comes out of your mouth and you don't
- 21:05Speaker 3: have creative controller, you're nothing as one of the producers,
- 21:09Speaker 3: then you can't control how they edit or they do
- 21:11Speaker 3: a facial expression, or they clip something up and make
- 21:14Speaker 3: it seem like you said something that you didn't. You know,
- 21:17Speaker 3: it's really tricky and you have to use wisdom. You
- 21:21Speaker 3: gotta be cognizant of the fact that you know they
- 21:24Speaker 3: can make this look however they want to.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Right, So let me ask you this. So when you
- 21:29Speaker 1: with your husband trying to reconcile, right, trying to with
- 21:33Speaker 1: thoughts running through you through your mind, I got to
- 21:35Speaker 1: play it this way or was that an honest moment?
- 21:38Speaker 3: Right?
- 21:38Speaker 1: I'm just asking you know, because because you know, things
- 21:42Speaker 1: can go sideways, like you said, whatever they capture on
- 21:44Speaker 1: fam whatever they capture on audio. You know, and this
- 21:47Speaker 1: relationship can go sideways when you walk into these scenes
- 21:51Speaker 1: and you know these are real scenes. You know that's
- 21:53Speaker 1: a man that you had a relationship, that was a
- 21:55Speaker 1: man you're trying to reconcile with Tasha. What goes in
- 21:58Speaker 1: your mind to protect who you are would also be
- 22:00Speaker 1: as real as possible.
- 22:05Speaker 3: In those moments, you're not thinking about protecting who you are.
- 22:08Speaker 3: You're just you're playing the moments out. It's you know,
- 22:11Speaker 3: you don't know what you're gonna say because there's no scripts.
- 22:14Speaker 3: It's real like if there's no scripts, you get you
- 22:18Speaker 3: get a time sheet in the morning. Sometimes you don't
- 22:21Speaker 3: even know where you're filming, so you get a time
- 22:24Speaker 3: sheet in the morning that says, this is what time
- 22:26Speaker 3: you're filming, this is the location. Sometimes you don't even
- 22:30Speaker 3: know who you're filming with, you know. With that thing
- 22:33Speaker 3: with him and I, we knew we were filming that scene,
- 22:35Speaker 3: but we avoided a lot of conversations because we wanted
- 22:38Speaker 3: it to be real, we wanted it to be natural.
- 22:40Speaker 3: And then we had a conversation prior to that when
- 22:42Speaker 3: we said, okay, these are the things that are off
- 22:45Speaker 3: the limits We're not going to talk about ex spouses,
- 22:47Speaker 3: we're not going to talk about children, We're now I'm
- 22:49Speaker 3: not going to bring up your church. It was just
- 22:51Speaker 3: certain things that we said, these will be off limits.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Let's keep the conversation focused on you and I. And
- 22:58Speaker 3: so those are some things that you have to do
- 22:59Speaker 3: when we out to be TV. But at the end
- 23:02Speaker 3: of the day, I felt like a lot was accomplished
- 23:05Speaker 3: because we were able to show like, yeah, we're believers,
- 23:08Speaker 3: we're Christians, but we had our lives getting messy, we
- 23:12Speaker 3: make mistakes just like you. Such happened, and so I
- 23:15Speaker 3: was I was happy when I when I looked back
- 23:19Speaker 3: at it, I was a little nervous, But when at it,
- 23:22Speaker 3: I was like, you know, I'm proud of myself because
- 23:24Speaker 3: I did something that first of all, I'm a woman.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Number two, it's some men that wouldn't even go on
- 23:30Speaker 3: national television and admit to having an affair. So it's like, I.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Wasn't gonna say that, I ain't putting all your business
- 23:37Speaker 1: down in the streets.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Now all your business it's already on it's already on TV. Listen.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I ain't got no shame in my game.
- 23:45Speaker 1: It is what it is, you know, because y'all were
- 23:48Speaker 1: separated that when it happened, y'all was separated. Okay, let's
- 23:51Speaker 1: go and get the facts right there. Separated.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Okay, we were separated, and now I did think we
- 23:56Speaker 3: were getting a divorced at the time we ended up getting.
- 24:00Speaker 3: But still I have to be held accountable for my actions.
- 24:03Speaker 3: There's no e for that. You're not divorced until you're divorced.
- 24:07Speaker 3: And I will not suggest or advise any person that
- 24:11Speaker 3: is separated or going through a divorce to give their
- 24:14Speaker 3: body to somebody else. You know, go through your healing process,
- 24:17Speaker 3: love on yourself, get hell, get whold, go through therapy,
- 24:21Speaker 3: do all of those things before you jump into another relationship,
- 24:25Speaker 3: because all you're doing is damaging yourself even more so.
- 24:28Speaker 3: You know, I know where I went wrong, and that
- 24:31Speaker 3: was a part of me coming on the show to
- 24:33Speaker 3: say I'm woman enough to admit when I've been wrong
- 24:36Speaker 3: and to apologize and keep it moving.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Well, let me tell you something you're doing more than that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: You know you are so talented. I'm just gonna let
- 24:44Speaker 1: you know so talent, so gifted, You're such a great communicator.
- 24:48Speaker 1: What I know. We're wrapping up the interview here and
- 24:50Speaker 1: like I said, she called me wich, how long am
- 24:52Speaker 1: I talking? I can talk to you for an hour.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I swear to you that you know you are that
- 24:57Speaker 1: good of a storyteller, and you don't you know, I
- 25:00Speaker 1: can tell when I'm talking to people when they they're there,
- 25:02Speaker 1: they're couching their words and I don't want to say
- 25:04Speaker 1: that you're just talking, and you're smart enough to say.
- 25:08Speaker 1: This is how I'm an honest person. So I have
- 25:10Speaker 1: nothing to hide. And so with the stories of the
- 25:13Speaker 1: information I share with you is really on it. And
- 25:15Speaker 1: that came across from the show. So I know that
- 25:18Speaker 1: they got to be a book coming up. Are you're
- 25:20Speaker 1: going to write a book about your life that you've
- 25:22Speaker 1: experienced so far? What's the future for Tasha?
- 25:26Speaker 3: So I have one book that I put out a
- 25:28Speaker 3: few years ago. It's called h and the Winner is
- 25:31Speaker 3: Tasha Pay's Black Her Uncut. You can find that on Amazon.
- 25:35Speaker 3: But I am working on my second book and it's
- 25:37Speaker 3: called it's a work book attached to it and it's
- 25:39Speaker 3: called it's simply called do the Work, which is the
- 25:42Speaker 3: process that I've been going through over the past two
- 25:44Speaker 3: years after being separated and then going through a second divorce,
- 25:49Speaker 3: which has been very public. There's a lot of work
- 25:51Speaker 3: that has to be done. There's a lot of work
- 25:53Speaker 3: that should be done before marriage, there's a lot of
- 25:55Speaker 3: work that should be done during marriage and after if
- 25:58Speaker 3: you go through a divorce or in a separation you
- 26:00Speaker 3: or whatever the case may be. And not just in marriage,
- 26:02Speaker 3: but in life. There is work that needs to be done.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Nothing comes easy, but if you put in the work,
- 26:08Speaker 3: there is a great new ward that you will receive.
- 26:11Speaker 3: And so that's what I want people to really grasp
- 26:13Speaker 3: the idea of you know, you can have all of
- 26:16Speaker 3: this vision and all of these ideas and say what
- 26:18Speaker 3: you want to do, but those things will not materialize
- 26:21Speaker 3: until you start putting in work.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Wow, Tasha, tell everybody about your handles, how they can
- 26:26Speaker 1: reach you all these good things. We wrap up this interview.

- 27:09Speaker 3: merging comedy with music. And I'm excited to premiere new

- 29:44Speaker 5: McDonald outside.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I'm a man, Kurt Franklin, I know very well. This
- 29:48Speaker 1: is my next guess is one of the honest rappers
- 29:50Speaker 1: in the game. He's a Christian Rapper's name is La Crag.
- 29:52Speaker 1: He's recognized as the first artist to have an album
- 29:54Speaker 1: hit the charts at number one for both the Billboard
- 29:57Speaker 1: two hundred and the Gospel Charts simultaneous, a multi Grammary
- 30:01Speaker 1: Award winning platinum. All this New York Times bestselling author
- 30:04Speaker 1: interviewed him on that book, Tremendous, The Crazy workers, fueled
- 30:07Speaker 1: by building bridges, changing narrative, empowering a different franchise, and
- 30:12Speaker 1: restoring the dignity of those who are lost. We were
- 30:15Speaker 1: discussing his gospel career, mental health in the black community,
- 30:18Speaker 1: which we don't talk about enough, his controversial collaboration with
- 30:21Speaker 1: Blessings with my man Tie Dollar sign cause I'm trying
- 30:24Speaker 1: to figure that out because I've heard it so many times,
- 30:26Speaker 1: trying to figure that out. His new single Your Power
- 30:28Speaker 1: with Tasha Cobbs was released in time for May Mental
- 30:32Speaker 1: health awareness mark to create dialogue around depression therapy and
- 30:36Speaker 1: talk about the pressure of being an ideal role model.
- 30:39Speaker 1: We have a lot to unpack. Please, welcome to the
- 30:41Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Look, Craig, how you doing, My.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Brother, what's going on? It's all good man, all is well.
- 30:49Speaker 4: I can't complain. I'm grateful to be here, appreciate you
- 30:51Speaker 4: having me on.
- 30:51Speaker 1: We know just about the fourth or fifth interview as
- 30:53Speaker 1: as saying a fourth and every time, I always go
- 30:56Speaker 1: back to when I first saw you and in Houston,
- 30:59Speaker 1: and there was a all those things church. It was
- 31:01Speaker 1: a think the Super Bowl Gospel celebration that was taping it,
- 31:05Speaker 1: and you came down that and I've never seen you
- 31:07Speaker 1: and all I can remember, and I would probably every
- 31:10Speaker 1: time I interviewed, I aways bringing up because you know,
- 31:12Speaker 1: when you see something and I'm just telling you look
- 31:14Speaker 1: crazy when you see something special, you have to keep
- 31:17Speaker 1: reminding people because you get hit all the time and
- 31:20Speaker 1: we kind of get wolled down and we kind of like,
- 31:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying you've lost focus, but you know, you
- 31:25Speaker 1: tend to like get sway from what you your purpose.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Your purpose is to impact people like me. I'm not
- 31:31Speaker 1: an everyday church goer. You know. I probably clothes I
- 31:34Speaker 1: go to church with. When my wife she says grace
- 31:37Speaker 1: and I say amen, that's that's that's my regular going
- 31:40Speaker 1: to church, you know. And and when I do other church,
- 31:44Speaker 1: I understand the value of going to church when I'm
- 31:47Speaker 1: in that church. And you affected me, brother, with your talents,
- 31:51Speaker 1: with your gifts and every word. I hung on it
- 31:54Speaker 1: and it still impacts me today when I when I
- 31:57Speaker 1: see you and I hear you talking to these interviews,
- 32:00Speaker 1: it's always not just you rapping, but you're about the
- 32:03Speaker 1: community and you're about uplift. Tell everybody about La Craze.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you know, I can only be authentically me.
- 32:11Speaker 4: And you know, I wasn't raised in the church. That's
- 32:15Speaker 4: not my background, you know. So I wanted to create
- 32:19Speaker 4: tools and music and experiences for people like myself. You
- 32:23Speaker 4: know what was what would raise my eyebrows and helped
- 32:26Speaker 4: me realize that, you know, my faith is is bigger
- 32:29Speaker 4: than four walls. My faith is bigger than uh, you know,
- 32:33Speaker 4: white gloves and hats, and so I really wanted to
- 32:38Speaker 4: create something for folks like that, and that's kind of
- 32:41Speaker 4: what has been driving me ever since. So I want
- 32:44Speaker 4: to be in different realms, you know. You you see
- 32:46Speaker 4: me in the prisons, the detention centers. You see me
- 32:48Speaker 4: on on the court side, you know, talking to my
- 32:51Speaker 4: NBA players or my NFL players. You'll see me, you know,
- 32:55Speaker 4: mixing it up, you know, at different environments. But again,
- 32:59Speaker 4: I'm gonna be in the church as well, because I'm
- 33:01Speaker 4: trying to be well rounded.
- 33:03Speaker 1: We know, it's really interesting. I always tell people that,
- 33:06Speaker 1: you know, when you meet somebody special, sometimes you don't
- 33:08Speaker 1: even know how to talk to him. The very first
- 33:11Speaker 1: time I interviewed the Cray was probably the most difficult
- 33:13Speaker 1: interview because I didn't really know how comfortable I could
- 33:17Speaker 1: be with him because he was you know, it's like,
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, I'm a I'm a fan of hip hop,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I'm a fan of Godspel. It was the first time
- 33:23Speaker 1: I interviewed a Christian rapper, a rapper of hip hop.
- 33:28Speaker 1: So so my whole conversation was like, okay, because you know,
- 33:31Speaker 1: because rap has that that the history of you know,
- 33:34Speaker 1: a tough violence. Uh, getting that bank, getting that bag,
- 33:39Speaker 1: you know women in video, that's what that That's what
- 33:42Speaker 1: when you say the word rapper, you say the word
- 33:44Speaker 1: hip hop, that's what it entails. Do you fight that?
- 33:46Speaker 4: Is that?
- 33:47Speaker 1: Is that something that you did that when people when
- 33:49Speaker 1: you say you're a Christian rapper, that you have to
- 33:51Speaker 1: that you have to deal with As far as being stereotyped.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Yeah, you know you dealt with it a lot early on,
- 33:58Speaker 4: but then you realize, you know, and let me just
- 34:00Speaker 4: the narrative. If people think, you know, all black people
- 34:05Speaker 4: are criminals, I'm not gonna walk around saying well, I'm
- 34:07Speaker 4: not black. You know, I'm gonna change your perspective. You know,
- 34:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna change your perspective of what a black person is.
- 34:14Speaker 4: And so when you come across me, uh, you know,
- 34:17Speaker 4: you're gonna say, well what I thought that they were all, well, yeah,
- 34:20Speaker 4: you thought wrong, you know, and so, uh, you may
- 34:24Speaker 4: have some perceptions about what what what a rapper who's
- 34:27Speaker 4: a Christian looks like or a Christian rapper and how
- 34:29Speaker 4: they move and how they get down. Uh, but allow
- 34:32Speaker 4: me to reintroduce myself.
- 34:34Speaker 1: And so so you know, I had ta page Lockhart
- 34:38Speaker 1: early on the earlier part of the show. And you know,
- 34:40Speaker 1: it's got like my church day to day, my gospel
- 34:42Speaker 1: day to day, because y'all have different styles, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 1: and which is really awesome. And you know she grew
- 34:47Speaker 1: up in the church. You know, her mom was a
- 34:49Speaker 1: church you know, so it was no options for you
- 34:53Speaker 1: for her to go in that direction. How did you
- 34:55Speaker 1: get in this direction? First of all, I can understand
- 34:57Speaker 1: the hip hop game, but how did you get part
- 35:00Speaker 1: of it get played into the hip hop game with
- 35:03Speaker 1: you look great?
- 35:05Speaker 4: Yeah? Well, you know I was always a free thinking individual.
- 35:10Speaker 4: You know. My mother was was raised in the church
- 35:12Speaker 4: and she was a face some abuse, you know, some
- 35:15Speaker 4: church her. So she didn't want me to experience that.
- 35:17Speaker 4: So she raised me to think freely to philosophy, you know, philosophy,
- 35:20Speaker 4: and I started just exploring different views and and and
- 35:24Speaker 4: I knew that I had purpose, you know. And so
- 35:27Speaker 4: if you know you got purpose, that means, you know,
- 35:29Speaker 4: purposes must come from somewhere. You can't just be a
- 35:31Speaker 4: cosmic accident, just a product of a big bang and
- 35:34Speaker 4: you think you got purpose. So purpose had to be
- 35:36Speaker 4: given to me from somewhere. So I started just investigating
- 35:39Speaker 4: where that was and what that looked like. And so
- 35:42Speaker 4: I was on a college campus and decided to, uh,
- 35:45Speaker 4: you know, it was a young lady. It's always a
- 35:47Speaker 4: young lady. Uh you know, you know, hey, but she, uh,
- 35:53Speaker 4: she invited me to a Bible study. I said, you know,
- 35:55Speaker 4: I let me go in and check it out. And
- 35:58Speaker 4: and you know, they blew my mind because they did.
- 36:00Speaker 4: They looked like me, they dressed like me, they talked
- 36:03Speaker 4: like me, and I did not expect that. And so
- 36:06Speaker 4: I hung around a little longer, and before long, you know,
- 36:09Speaker 4: I met God in that group of people. And and
- 36:14Speaker 4: then it would turned into like, well, man, you know,
- 36:16Speaker 4: I can express myself through rap music amongst these folks.
- 36:19Speaker 4: So they were people just like me, right, and they
- 36:21Speaker 4: loved it.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Yeah, now now that's that's that's God.
- 36:25Speaker 4: You know.
- 36:25Speaker 1: We went to the meeting. That's what I love talking
- 36:27Speaker 1: to you, and Kirk, I love talking to because you
- 36:29Speaker 1: just really kind of like talking at least say you know,
- 36:30Speaker 1: it's like woman that was a girl. You know, because
- 36:34Speaker 1: so many people in the in the church game don't
- 36:37Speaker 1: want to tell the truth. They don't want to tell
- 36:38Speaker 1: you that journey all the time, and the journey is
- 36:41Speaker 1: everyday life journey. Like you know, like Steve Harvey used
- 36:44Speaker 1: to always say, you know, uh, act like church people
- 36:46Speaker 1: don't have sex. They got some church kids from somewhere. Okay,
- 36:51Speaker 1: they came from somewhere. And now so let's go and
- 36:53Speaker 1: be honest. Now, when we were talking about you and
- 36:55Speaker 1: this whole part of the process. Now you you're around
- 36:59Speaker 1: the group of people. Now you wrapping the them. You're
- 37:02Speaker 1: breaking lyrics off. Now when did they When did somebody
- 37:05Speaker 1: come and go, brother, you got something here. You gotta
- 37:07Speaker 1: you can step this up to the next level here,
- 37:09Speaker 1: you know, because we all know that that this this
- 37:13Speaker 1: industry is tied to money. Lookret and we know that
- 37:17Speaker 1: the direction you were going ain't the big money maker
- 37:20Speaker 1: in the hip hop game. You know, they you know,
- 37:22Speaker 1: they're not saying that you broke but you know what
- 37:24Speaker 1: a hip hop game. It's the number one streaming format
- 37:27Speaker 1: in the world is hip hop music. And I've talked
- 37:31Speaker 1: to enough gospel artists to know what is a what
- 37:34Speaker 1: is what is a big seller in the gospel game.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Did that come into play? Did people tell you, man,
- 37:40Speaker 1: you need to take your skills over to the hip
- 37:42Speaker 1: hop side instead of the Christian side? What was What
- 37:45Speaker 1: was your people telling you and why did you stand
- 37:47Speaker 1: strong in the Christian rap side?
- 37:50Speaker 4: Yeah? So I had some individuals, you know, I obviously
- 37:53Speaker 4: had uh, the producers and the DJs who said, hey,
- 37:58Speaker 4: I like what you're doing, and I think, you know,
- 38:03Speaker 4: you might want to try this on the mainstream side.
- 38:05Speaker 4: You know, that may be a better look for you, right.
- 38:08Speaker 4: But but there was a young man, you know, he
- 38:11Speaker 4: was older than me at the time, and he was
- 38:13Speaker 4: into uh ironically, he was in the money management. He
- 38:17Speaker 4: was a financial advisor, and I really respected him because
- 38:22Speaker 4: I had never met, you know, a young black financial
- 38:24Speaker 4: advisor before. It was it was new to me, and
- 38:27Speaker 4: I really respected him. And he told me, he said, hey, man,
- 38:31Speaker 4: you really have a talent, and you know, I think
- 38:36Speaker 4: God can use you if you really, you know, put
- 38:39Speaker 4: some structure around this and begin to build on it.
- 38:43Speaker 4: And so, man, that lit a fire on me because
- 38:46Speaker 4: he was somebody I respected. You know, he had this
- 38:48Speaker 4: stuff together. Because I was nervous, you know, I was like, Man,
- 38:51Speaker 4: should I pursue this rap thing? I don't know, but
- 38:54Speaker 4: he gave me the encouragement to do it.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's really interesting because the whole thing
- 38:58Speaker 1: that people need to understand it is that, you know,
- 39:00Speaker 1: I always tell people there's a forking roll and the anything.
- 39:02Speaker 1: You know, there are a lot of people in jail
- 39:04Speaker 1: because they took the wrong fork in the roll. We
- 39:06Speaker 1: all make these decisions, and whether you can walk that
- 39:09Speaker 1: decision back I don't know. But when you make the decision,
- 39:12Speaker 1: I always say, give a hundred percent. And that's what
- 39:14Speaker 1: you did. You gave a hundred percent when you start
- 39:17Speaker 1: breaking through those walls and started realizing that you can
- 39:20Speaker 1: have a career out of this, because that's the next
- 39:22Speaker 1: step in. And I remember when I started doing stand
- 39:24Speaker 1: up comedy. I was just doing stand up comedy for fun,
- 39:26Speaker 1: look great, and then I realized, you know, some of
- 39:28Speaker 1: these people paying me a check to do this. Then
- 39:30Speaker 1: I realized, you know something, I on TV doing this
- 39:32Speaker 1: and I realized, you know something, people showing up to
- 39:35Speaker 1: see me tell jokes, I can make a career to this.
- 39:37Speaker 1: But before that, it was a lot of it was
- 39:40Speaker 1: a lot of dollars. Look great, boy, you're gonna leave
- 39:42Speaker 1: IB be able to do what You better lead that
- 39:45Speaker 1: good job. You better lead that good job. You ain't
- 39:47Speaker 1: that funny. You ain't that funny? You know those dollars man.
- 39:51Speaker 1: And that's that's when I started wondering in the whole process.
- 39:54Speaker 1: That's when faith come in it. You know, your belief,
- 39:57Speaker 1: You know that you have to that you have to
- 40:00Speaker 1: to lock in and otherwise what are you what are
- 40:03Speaker 1: you fighting? Because there's so many people can like jump
- 40:05Speaker 1: into your lane and say, like you said, DJ talking
- 40:08Speaker 1: about hey man, money over here, bag over here, over here? Yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 1: but money over here. You know, those type of people
- 40:16Speaker 1: are really dangerous because in the end, we all know
- 40:20Speaker 1: we're gonna fall. Will they be there to help you
- 40:23Speaker 1: stand up? That's what you have to realize, am I right?
- 40:27Speaker 4: That's right? You you nailed it. That's a big piece
- 40:31Speaker 4: of it. And you know, even my mother was a
- 40:33Speaker 4: little nervous, you know. And and because of the fact
- 40:36Speaker 4: that I had a nine to five, and I, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 4: was was getting a severance check. But like you said,
- 40:43Speaker 4: I started doing show after show and I knew, you know,
- 40:46Speaker 4: I had a budget, and I knew, Okay, let me
- 40:48Speaker 4: see how much is rent? Okay, this show pay for rent?
- 40:52Speaker 4: This could take care Okay, all right? And now you
- 40:54Speaker 4: know I planned it out a little bit and then
- 40:56Speaker 4: I made it. I made that leap of faith, like
- 40:58Speaker 4: you said.
- 40:59Speaker 1: And this a powerful leaf, ladies. And Jen, you know,
- 41:02Speaker 1: I love bringing on individuals who you know because of
- 41:06Speaker 1: the fact that when I when I talked to little Crape,
- 41:09Speaker 1: because he's younger than me, I always I loved because
- 41:12Speaker 1: he's gonna walk in my shoes. He's gonna he gonna
- 41:15Speaker 1: make some mistakes I made, and he's gonna live through
- 41:17Speaker 1: those mistakes and he's gonna learn that he's a better
- 41:19Speaker 1: man for it. I always tell people, in order to
- 41:22Speaker 1: be successful, you gotta make a mistake, because that way
- 41:24Speaker 1: you won't make that mistake tright. Nowf you make it
- 41:26Speaker 1: two or three times, you're not a successful person anymore.
- 41:28Speaker 1: But as you go through that path and that process,
- 41:31Speaker 1: the arrows and the slings that come at you. And
- 41:34Speaker 1: because the last time we talked about we talked about money.
- 41:36Speaker 1: The last time I interviewed him, he was doing a
- 41:38Speaker 1: web series called Protect the Bag, so that means that
- 41:43Speaker 1: he understands money with all people were telling him, no, man,
- 41:47Speaker 1: you're taking the risk. No man, don't leave that job,
- 41:50Speaker 1: No man, go hip hop. Years later you been you
- 41:54Speaker 1: getting paid to talk about money and financial literacy.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Wow, right, that's right, that's right, you nailed it. And again,
- 42:04Speaker 4: you know, that's why you got to stay on the
- 42:07Speaker 4: pathway that you believe you're supposed to be on, because,
- 42:10Speaker 4: like you said, those people who are doubting you, they're
- 42:13Speaker 4: not gonna pay your bills and they're not gonna be
- 42:15Speaker 4: there for you, you know, to celebrate the wins with you.
- 42:20Speaker 4: So you know, it's kind of like, hey man, you
- 42:22Speaker 4: at the end of the day, you gotta make a choice.
- 42:24Speaker 4: And it's what I tell a lot of my youngins.
- 42:26Speaker 4: I tell them, I say, hey, you know nothing, at
- 42:30Speaker 4: some point in time, you're gonna have to take a risk,
- 42:33Speaker 4: you know, make it a calculated risk, and make it worthwhile.
- 42:36Speaker 4: But don't put too much pressure on yourself, especially if
- 42:38Speaker 4: you're in your early mid twenties. You know, if you
- 42:39Speaker 4: can make a couple of mistakes at twenty two. If
- 42:42Speaker 4: you make mistakes for three years at twenty two years old,
- 42:45Speaker 4: you're still gonna be in your twenties by the time.
- 42:47Speaker 4: You know, you realize what's going on, So you know,
- 42:52Speaker 4: keep trying.
- 42:52Speaker 1: You know, that's so powerful, that's so powerful. When we
- 42:56Speaker 1: come back, I got to talk to you as a
- 42:57Speaker 1: pressure release to hit the wire. He called his PR
- 43:01Speaker 1: person and involved the song Your Power and involved Tasha Cobb.
- 43:05Speaker 1: When we come back and go talk about that, and
- 43:07Speaker 1: it was the funny story. I called Jackie Old, that's
- 43:09Speaker 1: his PR person. I said, I got to interview my
- 43:13Speaker 1: boy La Craye. She said he don't do nothing at
- 43:14Speaker 1: the five point thirty. I said, wow, I said, he asked.
- 43:20Speaker 1: She called me back the crill do your show. This
- 43:23Speaker 1: is my boy right here. This is my boy. That's
- 43:25Speaker 1: why he's on the show. If you're right back for
- 43:26Speaker 1: more from my man, La Craig, we'll.
- 43:35Speaker 5: Be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass with
- 43:39Speaker 5: Rashawn McDonald.
- 43:42Speaker 6: You are now tuned into the Money Making Conversations Minute
- 43:45Speaker 6: of Inspiration with Rashawn McDonald.
- 43:48Speaker 1: This week, I sat down with Media Mobile, Hollywood executive
- 43:50Speaker 1: and philanthropist Nick Cannon. Although the former child star has
- 43:54Speaker 1: experienced a long career of success, when no signs of
- 43:57Speaker 1: slowing down. He explains why he's so pass about creating
- 44:01Speaker 1: opportunities for others.
- 44:03Speaker 9: It's all about the community. For me, it's about giving
- 44:05Speaker 9: other people opportunities. It's about opening doors and sharing their knowledge,
- 44:08Speaker 9: wealth and wisdom that I've obtained with everyone else. I mean,
- 44:12Speaker 9: you know, obviously I'm still in school. Hopefully, you know,
- 44:15Speaker 9: I'll be able to you know, Hu Howard University. I
- 44:18Speaker 9: want to go all the way on getting my masters,
- 44:19Speaker 9: want to go to my doctorate and eventually be a
- 44:22Speaker 9: professor and teach the things that I've picked up along
- 44:28Speaker 9: the way. But it's all about the community, whether it's teaching,
- 44:31Speaker 9: whether it's entertaining, whether it's investing into us.
- 44:34Speaker 1: If you want to listen to this full interview with
- 44:36Speaker 1: Nick Cannon, it's available on Money Making Conversations dot com.
- 44:41Speaker 5: Now let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashaan McDonald.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Wow, I'm back on this. Rashwan McDonald speaking to Locrat.
- 44:49Speaker 1: He's recognized as the first artist to have an album
- 44:52Speaker 1: to hit the charts at number one in both Billboard
- 44:54Speaker 1: two hundred and the Gospel Charge. That's right. He's a
- 44:57Speaker 1: multi multi Grammar Warard winning the Artists New York Times
- 45:01Speaker 1: Bestselling art But it's a press release that I saw
- 45:04Speaker 1: that came across my wire talking about the song Your Power,
- 45:08Speaker 1: which is fantastic, by the way, I listened to it
- 45:10Speaker 1: several times and with Tasha Cobbs and was talking about
- 45:14Speaker 1: the church community, dealing with stereotypes, dealing with people expecting
- 45:19Speaker 1: certain things to be a certain way, and certain gospel
- 45:22Speaker 1: church people act a certain way. Can you break it
- 45:24Speaker 1: down and can in details. It's your show, it's your forum.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I just wanted to understand what's going on in the
- 45:31Speaker 1: world and why there was a need for you and
- 45:33Speaker 1: Tasha to get together.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, you know, Tasha and I are very vocal
- 45:39Speaker 4: about mental health. We both had struggles with mental health
- 45:44Speaker 4: that we wanted to be public about because black folks
- 45:46Speaker 4: don't talk about it as much as we need to.
- 45:49Speaker 4: And then, you know, some of the blowback that both
- 45:53Speaker 4: of us have received from you know, certain church folks
- 45:58Speaker 4: about our collaborations with Nicki Minaj and mine with Todd
- 46:01Speaker 4: Dollar Sign, you know, created some unnecessary tension and pressure
- 46:06Speaker 4: and you know, you don't realize that that stuff just
- 46:11Speaker 4: keeps piling up and piling up, and no public figure
- 46:14Speaker 4: deserves to be as celebrated or criticized as we are.
- 46:18Speaker 4: And so that stuff can tend to mess with your psyche.
- 46:21Speaker 4: And so we just decided to take control of that
- 46:23Speaker 4: and to take you know, our mental health back into
- 46:26Speaker 4: our own hands.
- 46:27Speaker 1: It was really interesting now because I do it. I
- 46:29Speaker 1: do a lot of episodes on mental health and anxiety
- 46:33Speaker 1: and stress and depression. And on the show, my wife
- 46:36Speaker 1: was listening and I said to it, and I said,
- 46:39Speaker 1: on the show, I deal with depression, and she and
- 46:43Speaker 1: she and you do. Just this last week, she said,
- 46:46Speaker 1: I never know you dealt with any depression. And this
- 46:50Speaker 1: is where this is the problem with the black community.
- 46:53Speaker 1: And you know, I've been with my wife since eighty
- 46:57Speaker 1: two and she's never heard me say depression or anything.
- 47:04Speaker 1: And she and she and I explained her. I said, well,
- 47:06Speaker 1: I just deal with it. I just I said, I'm
- 47:09Speaker 1: gonna tell you, I've been black all my life. I said,
- 47:12Speaker 1: when I get out the car, I still get nervous
- 47:14Speaker 1: of the police officers just say hello to me because
- 47:17Speaker 1: I have doubts. So I said, there's a natural lane
- 47:19Speaker 1: of stress that I'm gonna deal with. And I said,
- 47:22Speaker 1: and when you're an entertainment business, explain it. Depression is
- 47:26Speaker 1: part of that because there are no guarantees. And entertainment
- 47:30Speaker 1: business is the worst because you can be riding high,
- 47:33Speaker 1: walk in the room if somebody can tell you you're
- 47:35Speaker 1: not the one, and boy, that would not cure. You
- 47:38Speaker 1: don't know where to go to recover from that. And
- 47:41Speaker 1: so I said, it's something about entertainment. I said, when
- 47:44Speaker 1: you're doing a regular job, forty hour week job, that's different.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I said, when you're entertainment, your hides and loads can
- 47:50Speaker 1: be extreme. You can be you can walk off the
- 47:53Speaker 1: stage to a to a standing ovation and go to
- 47:56Speaker 1: the next city and they're not even looking They looking
- 47:58Speaker 1: like you that they've never seen you. Tell a joke,
- 48:01Speaker 1: a singal, a rap song. And I said, that is
- 48:04Speaker 1: what I dealt with all my life. And so and
- 48:08Speaker 1: also when you're dealing in a in a in a
- 48:11Speaker 1: lifestyle that so many people question your decisions, so many people,
- 48:16Speaker 1: you know, question what you do because you know what
- 48:19Speaker 1: you can say, this look crazy. I can't tell people
- 48:21Speaker 1: what I'm gonna do tomorrow. If somebody asked me, okay, Rishille,
- 48:25Speaker 1: what you're gonna do tomorrow. I know, I got a
- 48:26Speaker 1: lot of things I'm gonna do, but I can't tell you.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Like if you was a bank teller, you could tell
- 48:30Speaker 1: us what you're gonna do. If you drove trucks, you
- 48:32Speaker 1: can tell us what you're gonna do. If you are
- 48:34Speaker 1: a scientist, you can tell us we won't do. But
- 48:36Speaker 1: as an entrepreneur in the entertainment business, there's no lines
- 48:41Speaker 1: of description that you can say when I wake up,
- 48:43Speaker 1: this is my day, right or wrong?
- 48:45Speaker 4: That's right, that's right. No, Yeah, I mean it fluctuates
- 48:49Speaker 4: from from day to day, and you know, you can
- 48:51Speaker 4: try to build in some kind of consistency, but at
- 48:54Speaker 4: the end of the day, you know, different things come
- 48:57Speaker 4: up and different things happening, so you got to make amends,
- 49:00Speaker 4: you got to you know, move accordingly, and so yeah,
- 49:03Speaker 4: that can create stress. And again, you know, we we
- 49:06Speaker 4: were taught not to talk about those types of things.
- 49:08Speaker 4: I mean, once upon a time we weren't even allowed
- 49:10Speaker 4: to talk about the right thing. They tapped in Martin
- 49:13Speaker 4: Luther King's phone so he couldn't tell better let anybody
- 49:16Speaker 4: know what he was going through and so you know,
- 49:18Speaker 4: that stuff just goes on and on down the line,
- 49:21Speaker 4: where today we know it's kind of like we got
- 49:24Speaker 4: so many things to deal with. We don't talk about
- 49:26Speaker 4: what's going on mentally and emotionally, and you know, it
- 49:30Speaker 4: hinders us from being healthy. So so music has been
- 49:32Speaker 4: a part of our healing regiment. And that's why I'm
- 49:35Speaker 4: grateful to be able to be a musician because I
- 49:37Speaker 4: can create some medicine for some folks. I mean, you
- 49:39Speaker 4: still might need to go to the doctor.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Right right, because because that's really the problem in our community,
- 49:47Speaker 1: because we I would tell people that in the first
- 49:50Speaker 1: of all, I don't jump hard on people who who
- 49:53Speaker 1: are slow in understanding that you need to go to
- 49:55Speaker 1: a doctor because of the fact that we know we're
- 49:57Speaker 1: the first hired, last five, you know, first first, last hire,
- 50:00Speaker 1: first fire. Okay, so we always I remember when I
- 50:03Speaker 1: looked crazy when I had cancer. You know, I didn't
- 50:07Speaker 1: even know if I could reveal that because it might
- 50:09Speaker 1: cost me my career, It might cost me a job.
- 50:11Speaker 1: People might look at my age and cancer and think
- 50:14Speaker 1: I'm not hiring that dude anymore. So as a person
- 50:17Speaker 1: of color, there's so many things that we have to
- 50:20Speaker 1: consider before we tell somebody I need help. It's so
- 50:24Speaker 1: many things we consider before we tell somebody that, and
- 50:26Speaker 1: it might come across as a sign of weakness of
- 50:28Speaker 1: people who you consider your friends might shy away from
- 50:31Speaker 1: you because they don't know how to deal with you.
- 50:34Speaker 1: And they might use the word, you know, the street word.
- 50:36Speaker 1: He crazy, He crazy, I don't know, he acting strange.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And so those are the things that before I jump
- 50:42Speaker 1: down there and go hey man, black people, they're the
- 50:45Speaker 1: words black people. They got mental problem. Theyn't want to
- 50:48Speaker 1: talk about it. People need to step back as a
- 50:51Speaker 1: black man. I'm just talking for myself now, this a
- 50:52Speaker 1: black woman. Brother. I've been dealing with a lot. I
- 50:57Speaker 1: know I've had jobs I should have gotten. You know,
- 51:00Speaker 1: there are better comedy writers out there that I were
- 51:03Speaker 1: better better there, and I should they got a development deal,
- 51:05Speaker 1: but they got it. I know that are comedy shows.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I should have been the headline and I was the
- 51:09Speaker 1: middle act. I know there are checks that should have
- 51:12Speaker 1: been bigger for me, but I didn't get it. All
- 51:14Speaker 1: those things I have to just as they say, suck
- 51:17Speaker 1: it up and move on. That is entertainment, and that
- 51:20Speaker 1: can lead you to depression.
- 51:23Speaker 4: That's right, and you nailed the hammer on the head,
- 51:26Speaker 4: and we got to do a better job at navigating
- 51:29Speaker 4: those things and helping other people find freedom. And so that's,
- 51:33Speaker 4: you know, exactly what I aim to do. That's what
- 51:36Speaker 4: I make it my mission to do is to help
- 51:37Speaker 4: people find freedom. Whether that's music, whether that is you know, conversation,
- 51:42Speaker 4: whatever it is, that's what I want to do.
- 51:44Speaker 1: What you know, the thing about it is that when
- 51:46Speaker 1: we talk to crazy, I'm not trying to depress anybody.
- 51:50Speaker 1: I have energy in my voice. And when I'm talking
- 51:52Speaker 1: to you have energy because we've we've had so many conversations.
- 51:55Speaker 1: When I when I had you on the show about
- 51:57Speaker 1: your book, You Can't Get Anymore inst in that book?
- 52:00Speaker 1: Was that became a New York Times bestseller? Well, we
- 52:04Speaker 1: talked that was a different conversation. We talked about, you know,
- 52:07Speaker 1: protect the bag. That was a different conversation. Now we're
- 52:09Speaker 1: talking about mental health. How can we get our black
- 52:12Speaker 1: community to start raising their hand? How can we help
- 52:15Speaker 1: them out?
- 52:16Speaker 4: La Craig, Well, we you know, we got to follow
- 52:20Speaker 4: follow some of our leaders, Taraji p Henson, the Rock, uh,
- 52:25Speaker 4: you know, Michelle Williams, you know myself. You know, these
- 52:30Speaker 4: are weird individuals who are being vocal about this because
- 52:34Speaker 4: we're letting you know that you're not alone. And so
- 52:37Speaker 4: you what, what do you have to be ashamed of?
- 52:39Speaker 4: What can you lose? You know by being honest with
- 52:43Speaker 4: yourself about getting some healing. You know you I'm not
- 52:47Speaker 4: telling you to tell the world. I'm telling you to
- 52:49Speaker 4: tell your doctor. You know what I mean. And so
- 52:51Speaker 4: you know, what do you have to lose? You have
- 52:53Speaker 4: everything to gain. And I can tell you on this
- 52:55Speaker 4: side of Grammys and billboards and all these awards acolade
- 53:02Speaker 4: that I'm better for it. No, you got nothing to
- 53:05Speaker 4: lose and everything in the game.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Now the single Your Power? How did that come about?
- 53:09Speaker 5: That?
- 53:09Speaker 1: You deal with Tasha Cobb?
- 53:11Speaker 4: So, so, Tasha heard some of my music and historically
- 53:16Speaker 4: and we talked about doing something together, and I thought, man,
- 53:19Speaker 4: that's gonna be an interesting mashup, you know, with you
- 53:21Speaker 4: being traditional gospel and me being rapped. But we found
- 53:24Speaker 4: the right music in the right you know, kind of
- 53:27Speaker 4: combination and it became something special.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Wow.
- 53:30Speaker 4: And now.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Now I'm trying to get some some clarity on this
- 53:36Speaker 1: this this controversy with Blessings, did you deal with Todd
- 53:39Speaker 1: dollars side. That was twenty seventeen, right, yeah, man, twenty
- 53:44Speaker 1: sevent I'll tell you something. I'm telling because I do
- 53:46Speaker 1: this star back then because I loved it. Now I
- 53:49Speaker 1: went did he do a remix? Did he what? Because
- 53:52Speaker 1: I went before that, before the All day to day,
- 53:54Speaker 1: I've been going through Google. I've been going through all
- 53:57Speaker 1: the search engines trying to find why are they hanging
- 54:01Speaker 1: on this song? Why blessings?
- 54:05Speaker 4: You know, I wish I knew. I wish I knew.
- 54:07Speaker 4: You know, they just keep trying to find. But that's
- 54:11Speaker 4: how that's how it is. You know, you must be
- 54:13Speaker 4: doing something right if people looking for something wrong with
- 54:15Speaker 4: what you got going on. So you know, just you know,
- 54:17Speaker 4: for me, I just keep pushing.
- 54:18Speaker 1: We'm gonna tell you something.
- 54:19Speaker 4: Brother.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Listen to me. Man, you are one of my favorite
- 54:23Speaker 1: people of Creamy. And last time we talked, we talked,
- 54:27Speaker 1: I supposed to come by your building and you supposed
- 54:30Speaker 1: to come by my building. Now this time we gotta
- 54:33Speaker 1: make it happen. And then every time I talk to you, man,
- 54:37Speaker 1: we gotta do something together, man for the community event together.
- 54:40Speaker 1: And I'm just I'm just telling everybody right now, because
- 54:43Speaker 1: every time I talk to him, I get closer and
- 54:45Speaker 1: closer to his brother to understand that he's just a
- 54:47Speaker 1: younger version of me. Y'all, He's just a younger version
- 54:51Speaker 1: of me, and Lord have mercy. We gotta do something
- 54:55Speaker 1: about that. I gotta meet the younger version of me.
- 54:57Speaker 1: I'm calling my young twin, and let's make a difference.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Because you're special, brother, and I love you for that.
- 55:02Speaker 4: Man, Man, I appreciate you. It's an honor and.
- 55:05Speaker 1: A pleasure, just the one and only. Look Gray, thank
- 55:09Speaker 1: you for thank you for making time. Thank you for

- 55:16Speaker 1: stay blessed brother, and we'll talk soon. Man, I'm very serious.
- 55:19Speaker 1: I owe you a visit to your building.
- 55:20Speaker 4: Okay, all right, let's do it.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Talk to your son. Let's look Craye. Everybody an incredible guy.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Single I call your Power with Tasha Cobbs. And if
