- 0:28Speaker 2: sit back and listen as we unlock the secrets to
- 0:30Speaker 2: their success on Money Making Conversations Masterclass.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Welcome the Money Making Conversations. Y'all don't know host that,
- 0:38Speaker 1: But what y'all don't know This young man is sitting
- 0:40Speaker 1: there brother me those everywhere the owner afraid Shot. Why
- 0:44Speaker 1: did you name it the fade shot? You know, mister
- 0:47Speaker 1: Rashan is funny. I was actually in the military over
- 0:50Speaker 1: in Bosnia and being one of my military brothers who
- 0:54Speaker 1: sat down and was just kind of coming up with
- 0:56Speaker 1: a name, said, what can I call this thing? What
- 0:58Speaker 1: can I call it? That's gonna stick? You know, you
- 1:00Speaker 1: think about the major brands like Ford and Walmart, and
- 1:04Speaker 1: it's like, wow, you know everybody know those brands, right,
- 1:06Speaker 1: So I'm just dueling and dabbling on the.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Piece of paper and I came up with the phase
- 1:10Speaker 3: shot and I said, you know what, that's it. I'm
- 1:13Speaker 3: gonna name it the phage. Now what what what year
- 1:15Speaker 3: was that when you were saying that, this was nineteen
- 1:18Speaker 3: ninety six. Nineteen ninety six, yes.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And so at that point it was a dream. It
- 1:22Speaker 1: was all a dream. So were you couldn't hair when
- 1:24Speaker 1: you was in the military, Yes, sir, I was cutting
- 1:26Speaker 1: hair in the military, and it was just you know,
- 1:28Speaker 1: you know, trying to boost up the morale of the
- 1:30Speaker 1: troops because we was deployed away from the United States
- 1:33Speaker 1: and in Europe and being away from home. You know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: it's if you look good, you feel good, you feel good,
- 1:38Speaker 1: you do good, you do good. Guess what, you don't
- 1:40Speaker 1: get paid good, so you're gonna get that rank. So right, right, Yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 1: So I was just the person that was just boosting
- 1:45Speaker 1: that morale up, you know, keeping them guys groom. So
- 1:47Speaker 1: where were you originally from? Where were you born and raised?
- 1:49Speaker 1: So I'm born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Okay, yes, sir,
- 1:52Speaker 1: big d big deep. That's why you love the dread
- 1:55Speaker 1: You got the dress. Where you're from? The big guy
- 1:58Speaker 1: if you don't dress, you can't claim d That's right.
- 2:01Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. And so that. So you went
- 2:04Speaker 1: from there and then you joined the military or well no,
- 2:06Speaker 1: there was an option for the other versus other education.
- 2:09Speaker 4: So when I was twelve years old, I moved to
- 2:11Speaker 4: southeast Missouri. Okay, it's called the boot Hill. Now, that
- 2:14Speaker 4: whole Boo Hill population is probably about sixty thousand people.
- 2:18Speaker 4: But the town that I moved to had a population
- 2:20Speaker 4: of six hundred and twenty five people.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So I moved in with my grandparents. Okay, yes, sir.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Now when we start talking about dreams and aspirations, like
- 2:29Speaker 1: you said, the fade, Yeah, you know, let's talk about
- 2:32Speaker 1: the getting into the barber career. Now, when you was
- 2:36Speaker 1: doing it in the military where you certified as a
- 2:39Speaker 1: full barber, or you just had the skill set. I
- 2:42Speaker 1: just had the skill set. My father was a barber
- 2:44Speaker 1: in Troy, Alabama. Wow, so it's them a DNA.
- 2:47Speaker 4: But I didn't know it was them a den until
- 2:49Speaker 4: until you know, I met my father and saw what
- 2:51Speaker 4: he was doing, and it just ate start rocking and
- 2:53Speaker 4: rolling with it.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Well, you know, I don't, I don't. I can't talk
- 2:57Speaker 1: now because I ain't got no hair, but I do
- 2:59Speaker 1: respect the process of the importance of a barber because
- 3:04Speaker 1: I remember when I players for turning to their college.
- 3:07Speaker 1: You know, they told me shape cut somebody the hair.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I messed that hair up so bad because it looks
- 3:13Speaker 1: like it should be something simple. But it's not talk
- 3:15Speaker 1: about these skills that are the gift that it tends
- 3:19Speaker 1: to be a good barber. Well, it's it boils down
- 3:23Speaker 1: to the attention of detail, treating people like you want
- 3:25Speaker 1: to be treated. If someone asked for something, give them
- 3:28Speaker 1: what they want. If they ask for advice, you give
- 3:31Speaker 1: them the advice. So it's just really the attention to detail.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And that's what makes a good barber. The attention.
- 3:38Speaker 4: You know, if a person has bumps on the back
- 3:40Speaker 4: of their neck, right know that, So your attention to
- 3:43Speaker 4: that detail is going to tell them, hey, gets this
- 3:46Speaker 4: checked out or what they need to use to help
- 3:48Speaker 4: resolve that issue.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Now because I've seen that, I've seen that the bumps
- 3:52Speaker 1: of the rolls and you see bumps, what what is that? Now?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Them rolls, that's that's that's just that's just uh, that's
- 4:00Speaker 1: is family. But the bumps we can do something. Okay,
- 4:07Speaker 1: talk to you about that.
- 4:08Speaker 4: So, so that's called pseudo for likolitis barber you know,
- 4:11Speaker 4: in other terms, raise the bomps. So what happens is
- 4:13Speaker 4: sometimes you know, you have irritation from your collar on
- 4:16Speaker 4: your neck or if you wearing hands, or you just
- 4:18Speaker 4: you know, scratch in the back of your head. So
- 4:19Speaker 4: what happens is when that that hair starts growing out
- 4:23Speaker 4: a lot of times there scar teachers just start growing
- 4:25Speaker 4: on it and their hair starts.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Curling up and growing back up under the skin.
- 4:30Speaker 4: So it's very important for that barbera to notice that
- 4:33Speaker 4: and start pulling those hairs out and not necessarily prescribes you,
- 4:37Speaker 4: but direct you to a product that's.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Gonna, you know, make those bumps go away. Now you
- 4:42Speaker 1: have a product in your at ease because you mentioned
- 4:45Speaker 1: that at the very top at ease. What exactly is
- 4:47Speaker 1: the addes at ease, which is at ease? Right, that's
- 4:50Speaker 1: a military that's a military turn that means to be relaxed,
- 4:54Speaker 1: worry free.
- 4:55Speaker 4: And that's what we want you to think about. What
- 4:56Speaker 4: you're thinking about the Addies products. Let's relax, no worries.
- 5:00Speaker 1: We got you, we got you, we got you. Well,
- 5:03Speaker 1: those razor bumps like I would be honest with you,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I can't shave with a razor. I use the electric
- 5:09Speaker 1: razors on my face. If I use a razor like
- 5:12Speaker 1: you know, uh, then I will bump off. And so
- 5:16Speaker 1: you have understood. We just talked about the rage the
- 5:19Speaker 1: hair growing underneath the skin. You have a product for.
- 5:22Speaker 4: That, correct, Yes, sir, so in our ADDIE's hairs can
- 5:25Speaker 4: care a product like we have a product called the
- 5:27Speaker 4: Razor Bomp Therapy. And what that's gonna do is that's gonna,
- 5:31Speaker 4: you know, for one, keep that area clean and reduce
- 5:34Speaker 4: the swelling and the inflammation of those bumps so the
- 5:37Speaker 4: hair can be able to break through the skin out
- 5:40Speaker 4: and be able to you know, grow out and make
- 5:42Speaker 4: those launch.
- 5:42Speaker 1: So I'm sitting across a barber, a doctor or scientist. Well,
- 5:46Speaker 1: if you know the history of bar barber used to
- 5:48Speaker 1: be surgeons, you know what I mean. So we have
- 5:50Speaker 1: to go back to the foundation where you really have
- 5:53Speaker 1: to care about people. And that's what barbin is about.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It's more than just a haircut, right, And so that's
- 5:58Speaker 1: the respect because you kind of trivialize, I'm gonna be
- 6:01Speaker 1: honest with you. You come in, sit down and get
- 6:04Speaker 1: that haircut and and you see it on TV. Lebron
- 6:07Speaker 1: James got his show on the HBO. He said, in
- 6:11Speaker 1: the barbershop because we know it's all about the talk,
- 6:14Speaker 1: It's all about the cultural environment. Is it like that
- 6:17Speaker 1: the fair chop? It is it is you know, the
- 6:19Speaker 1: face shop is the corner store of the community. So
- 6:21Speaker 1: this is a place where people have problems and they
- 6:24Speaker 1: come in and they look for sound advice. Right. So
- 6:26Speaker 1: you know what you have to understand is these people
- 6:30Speaker 1: are trusting you and they you are close to them
- 6:34Speaker 1: that you will be to anybody that you're really in
- 6:36Speaker 1: their personal space. Right.
- 6:38Speaker 4: So being in that personal space, you have to give
- 6:40Speaker 4: out positive energy. Well you know, I sit down on
- 6:44Speaker 4: him because you energy energy that God. I first met
- 6:47Speaker 4: you at the Neighborhood Awards or Hoodie Awards. It was
- 6:49Speaker 4: hosted by Steve Harvey. I was producing and you want
- 6:52Speaker 4: several orders to fade shot for best Barble, not just
- 6:55Speaker 4: in plan On, not just in Dallas, not just for work,
- 6:58Speaker 4: not just in all, not just in Texas.
- 7:00Speaker 1: With the entire country. Yes, and recognized as one of
- 7:04Speaker 1: the top barbers shops in the country. What did that
- 7:08Speaker 1: type of recognition do for your business, mister shant. What
- 7:13Speaker 1: I tell you, just what they said at the top
- 7:17Speaker 1: four barber shops in the country is number one. Do
- 7:21Speaker 1: fad shops right right? And people just start calling any
- 7:24Speaker 1: talking about y'all on Steve Arbishi, they talking about jall
- 7:26Speaker 1: where y'all located. We're located.
- 7:28Speaker 4: It just really boasted our business at that point. It
- 7:32Speaker 4: really it really shined the light on the fade shop.
- 7:37Speaker 4: When you when you're looking at secrety success, you.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Started in why did why was that dream so clean
- 7:49Speaker 1: when you were serving our country?
- 7:52Speaker 4: You know, miss I'm must be one hundred percent honest
- 7:54Speaker 4: with you. Growing up as a kid, I don't want
- 7:57Speaker 4: to be a barber. I wanted to be a greyhound bus.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Driver, right, but I joined the military to learn how
- 8:02Speaker 1: to drive, and once I started driving, I hated driving right.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So right before I left to go over and over
- 8:08Speaker 1: the journey, my dad took me to a crash course,
- 8:11Speaker 1: gave me some clippers and said we'll go make some money.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
- 8:16Speaker 5: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
- 8:29Speaker 5: Conversations Masterclass, hosted by Rashaan McDonald money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 8:34Speaker 5: continues online at Moneymakingconversations dot com and follow money Making
- 8:39Speaker 5: Conversations Masterclass on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And when I went over there, I fell in love
- 8:44Speaker 1: with it. My first celebrity did I ever come without
- 8:47Speaker 1: a license? Was Usher? Right? Super Bowl Usher? Super Bowl Usher?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Okay you know so yeah? So Usher Genuine came over,
- 8:58Speaker 1: no Lemon came over, Snoop Dogg, all those guys came
- 9:00Speaker 1: over and I was cutting their hair. So it was
- 9:03Speaker 1: like at that point I said, well, this is bigger
- 9:06Speaker 1: than the military. Right, So when my time came up
- 9:09Speaker 1: to get out, I was like, okay, you know, I'm
- 9:10Speaker 1: ready to go and follow this stream. So, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: left got out with the school in Arkansas and at
- 9:17Speaker 1: that point it got my license and I moved to
- 9:19Speaker 1: Texas and it changed my life. Was when we talked
- 9:24Speaker 1: about your career nineteen years in this business, any moments
- 9:32Speaker 1: to you with man, why am I cutting hair? No?
- 9:35Speaker 1: You know, I've never hit the moment of why I'm
- 9:38Speaker 1: Why am I cutting hair? It was why am I
- 9:40Speaker 1: running these shops? Okay?
- 9:42Speaker 4: Because it's more so like I'm running a halfway house.
- 9:45Speaker 4: You know, I have to deal with with grown men
- 9:48Speaker 4: with kids problem.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But those outside problems become inside problems. And now they
- 9:53Speaker 1: can't pay their rent, right you know, they come in
- 9:56Speaker 1: and make the money, but they take the money out
- 9:58Speaker 1: and spend it in the streets and they don't want
- 10:01Speaker 1: to pay you know, the house. So there's never been
- 10:04Speaker 1: a time where you know, I didn't enjoy cutting hair
- 10:06Speaker 1: because I love doing this here. You know, I do
- 10:10Speaker 1: it for free. That's how much out now because now
- 10:12Speaker 1: we're going to the community. Yes, because I can't believe
- 10:16Speaker 1: that the individual who served our country and thank you
- 10:18Speaker 1: for your service, it's not involved in the community. And
- 10:22Speaker 1: I say, I can't believe. I'm just saying, I know
- 10:24Speaker 1: there's an obvious decision you made in your life. Talk
- 10:27Speaker 1: about your community service, you know, mister Rashon. Without the community,
- 10:31Speaker 1: there's no us, there's no need, you know.
- 10:33Speaker 4: So my pride is to be in the community, you know,
- 10:36Speaker 4: minturing to youth, you know, back to school here because
- 10:39Speaker 4: I even you know, go back home and give out
- 10:42Speaker 4: turkeys to.
- 10:42Speaker 1: My neighborhood in Missouri. Because you know, I wasn't an athlete,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know, I wasn't a singer or anything like that.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I just came here. You know, I can't hit a
- 10:52Speaker 1: couple of notes now, I'm not gonna do that, right,
- 10:57Speaker 1: but but just to go back and show them that
- 11:00Speaker 1: you don't have to be an athlete or entertainer to
- 11:04Speaker 1: give back to your community, because somebody's always watched, somebody's
- 11:08Speaker 1: always watched you and if you want them to if
- 11:11Speaker 1: you want to be a good example, then you have
- 11:13Speaker 1: to produce a good example. This is right here. This
- 11:16Speaker 1: is just one of your products, you know, Eddie E's yes, sir,
- 11:20Speaker 1: just talking business. How did you come about with the
- 11:23Speaker 1: logo design? So I went to Fiver. I told the
- 11:28Speaker 1: guys that I wanted to say Eddie's hair and skincare well.
- 11:32Speaker 1: In the military, AT is the preparatory command. EASE is
- 11:36Speaker 1: the command of execution. Right, So when he brought it back,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I was like, okay, he had at Then he had
- 11:43Speaker 1: the hair tentacles up in the air, which is they
- 11:46Speaker 1: was up, they was at attention and as they went
- 11:49Speaker 1: into ease they laid down. Okay, And I was like,
- 11:53Speaker 1: that's my logo right now, right right right, yeah right yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 1: So yeah, I went to Fibrant and had a designer
- 12:00Speaker 1: to design that low. Now the reason I The reason
- 12:02Speaker 1: I wanted to show everybody is because people are how
- 12:05Speaker 1: is the process? Because a joke to say you're order
- 12:07Speaker 1: you a doctor or scientist or a barber, but you
- 12:11Speaker 1: had to put this together the chemicals to make sure
- 12:14Speaker 1: it doesn't burn people hair or or irritate them when
- 12:17Speaker 1: they put how's that process? Where you start sharing your
- 12:20Speaker 1: secrets to success of manufacturing products outside of being a
- 12:25Speaker 1: traditional barber. So it boils down to just send down
- 12:29Speaker 1: with the chemist who has a plan, because every product
- 12:33Speaker 1: out there has a foundation, and it's just like building
- 12:36Speaker 1: a house. You know, if you want the crown molding,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you want the granted top, then they'll get cool.
- 12:41Speaker 4: I need a little bit of this, so I want
- 12:43Speaker 4: a little bit of that, and then you're go and
- 12:45Speaker 4: test it because you know, to have a product line.
- 12:48Speaker 4: These companies they have millions dollars of insurance, right you know,
- 12:52Speaker 4: behind your products, so you're going to be covered.
- 12:54Speaker 1: With that and they're testing improved by you know, licensed chemists.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You know so.
- 12:59Speaker 4: But but when it comes to just being in business,
- 13:02Speaker 4: you have to be all you have to be. You
- 13:05Speaker 4: have to be the marketing, you have to be the designer,
- 13:07Speaker 4: you have to be the spokesperson. You have to be
- 13:08Speaker 4: all of those things if you want your business to
- 13:11Speaker 4: be a success. You know, you can't expect no one
- 13:14Speaker 4: to do something for you that you're not willing to
- 13:16Speaker 4: do for yourself. So when you get ready to get
- 13:18Speaker 4: into the business of being an entrepreneur, just be willing
- 13:22Speaker 4: to put on many hats, because you're gonna have to
- 13:24Speaker 4: wear many hats if you're trying to be successful.
- 13:27Speaker 1: There are a lot of people in the barber industry.
- 13:29Speaker 1: There are a lot of people who are who retire
- 13:32Speaker 1: out of the barber industry. What type of organizations out
- 13:35Speaker 1: there that are like holding on to the actual culture
- 13:39Speaker 1: or honoring the culture of barbers. So I'm a part
- 13:42Speaker 1: of the OG Barber Conference. And when I say OG,
- 13:45Speaker 1: that means you're offering game and the offering game offering
- 13:48Speaker 1: game a game being, what game being, knowledge, their mentorship,
- 13:54Speaker 1: things of that nation there. And what we're trying to
- 13:57Speaker 1: do is just bring barbers together, old and young, just
- 14:00Speaker 1: bring the unity back. And when I say you know
- 14:03Speaker 1: old and young, you have maybe an older.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Guy who's a new barber or a younger guy who's
- 14:09Speaker 4: been cutting her for a long time. So it doesn't
- 14:11Speaker 4: matter what the age the person is. It's just you
- 14:14Speaker 4: know how long they've been in the industry, and we're
- 14:16Speaker 4: just trying to unite these brothers and sisters and you know,
- 14:19Speaker 4: so we can educate them a mentor and they can
- 14:21Speaker 4: you know, we see what they're doing. So what we
- 14:23Speaker 4: do is this is our third year and we have
- 14:26Speaker 4: an annual event to where we honor individuals that's been
- 14:31Speaker 4: doing some amazing things in their community.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yes. Wow, And so it's like so it's like it's
- 14:37Speaker 1: a three day event or a single day event. It's
- 14:39Speaker 1: a two day events event. Talk about to walk us
- 14:41Speaker 1: through the steps of the event. It's called the o G.
- 14:43Speaker 1: The O G Barber Offering Game.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Offering games because when you know what people think about OG,
- 14:49Speaker 4: they think about some original gangsters.
- 14:52Speaker 1: We're just about offering game, right because you know what
- 14:55Speaker 1: a game is, knowledge and game. It's not because mister Mashan,
- 14:58Speaker 1: you're OG.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Because because you've been offering gang along, you offer me
- 15:03Speaker 4: some game, game, you motivating me, Well, thank you, thank you.
- 15:09Speaker 1: So so that's what it's all about. So it's it's
- 15:12Speaker 1: just like I said, it's an event.
- 15:13Speaker 4: We search barbers from across the country that's really active
- 15:17Speaker 4: in their community that's really doing things that's really mentally
- 15:20Speaker 4: because that's just.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Really you know, setting a stone or trail blazing through
- 15:25Speaker 1: this thing. And we just bring them in and and
- 15:28Speaker 1: you know, give him award to just sell them. Thank you,
- 15:31Speaker 1: keep up the good work. You know, we see you.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And what that does is either turn that fire up,
- 15:36Speaker 1: motivates do something else, and they're going to inspire somebody else.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So how did you find this location and plan? Old?
- 15:43Speaker 1: So when people understand the process that one goes about
- 15:47Speaker 1: finding a location to set up a barber shop, So
- 15:50Speaker 1: this location here to plan a location, it's all about
- 15:53Speaker 1: your network, right, your network is going to be your network.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Well, somebody called another barbor friend of mine and say, hey,
- 16:01Speaker 4: do you want to buy some barber chairs? So when
- 16:04Speaker 4: they called me to say you want about the dressing?
- 16:06Speaker 1: No, what's up with the shop? Right? Okay, yeah, what's
- 16:09Speaker 1: up with the shop?
- 16:09Speaker 4: Well, the guy who owned the shop passed away and
- 16:12Speaker 4: his kids don't want it, and I will let me
- 16:14Speaker 4: check the shop out. And when I came in, it
- 16:17Speaker 4: was some very old antique chairs and I was like,
- 16:20Speaker 4: you know what, this is the new spot for the
- 16:22Speaker 4: Phase shop.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Okay, okay, plano text and planeo texts. But but anytime
- 16:27Speaker 1: that you're going out and wanting to do this here,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you have to be about the location, location, location, location, right.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Don't open up no barbershop in an alley. Don't open
- 16:39Speaker 1: up no barber shop in no warehouse. You know what
- 16:40Speaker 1: I mean. You have to have apartments, you have to
- 16:43Speaker 1: have businesses that you can drive off of. You have
- 16:46Speaker 1: to have residents in a community. And that's what's going
- 16:48Speaker 1: to feed your barbershop. Let's talk about what is the
- 16:52Speaker 1: traditional barber, because you know, one of things of a
- 16:54Speaker 1: traditional barber's male individual. Is that still the standard today? Oh? No,
- 16:59Speaker 1: not at all, not at all. No.
- 17:01Speaker 4: There are some very cold and cold female barbers out here,
- 17:06Speaker 4: you know, and they don't want to be called female
- 17:07Speaker 4: barber because they say, you know, there's not a female doctor,
- 17:10Speaker 4: and you.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Know it's a barber. So they are really coming out
- 17:15Speaker 1: of trapling. And when I tell.
- 17:18Speaker 4: A woman barber, listen, a man would give you everything,
- 17:22Speaker 4: but it's id because he needed ID to get everything.
- 17:26Speaker 1: You land in the chair. That woman's touch, she's cutting you,
- 17:29Speaker 1: she's picking those those hairs on your hair, bumpside of
- 17:32Speaker 1: your faith. She's beside of your faith you in heaven.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Thirty minutes later, you're like, okay, how much is it's
- 17:39Speaker 1: forty dollars? Okay, here go take a hundred right right, right? Hey,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I see you next week, right right. It's all about
- 17:45Speaker 1: the care and the relationship exactly. One thing I wanted
- 17:48Speaker 1: to use. You slid this in when we was talking
- 17:50Speaker 1: about the og. You talking about mentoring. Yes, the important
- 17:53Speaker 1: of mentoring and relationship please expire. Yes, Well people look
- 17:58Speaker 1: up us, you know, so it's it's very important that
- 18:01Speaker 1: we sold those positive seeds back into people, you know,
- 18:05Speaker 1: to mentor. It is important because kids are coming here
- 18:08Speaker 1: that don't have a father, so they're looking to us
- 18:12Speaker 1: to be their father figure. It actually goes back to
- 18:15Speaker 1: the movie Barbershop, was said entertainer. He said that Barbara
- 18:18Speaker 1: is is a father, he's a brother, he's a fashion consultant,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you know, he's a doctor, he's all of these different things.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So we wear a lot of different hats from behind
- 18:28Speaker 1: the chair. And to be a successful Barbara, you have
- 18:31Speaker 1: to be willing to wear all these different hats. Because
- 18:34Speaker 1: if that kid's come to here and he's being a
- 18:36Speaker 1: little disrespectful to his mother, you know what as that
- 18:39Speaker 1: barbie say, hey, hey, hey, we ain't doing that up
- 18:42Speaker 1: here doing get around to sit out right right right,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and that kid is gonna get in line. And what
- 18:47Speaker 1: that kid is going to do is he's going to
- 18:49Speaker 1: find a liking to you. There's one little kid right
- 18:51Speaker 1: now and I met him two years ago, and when
- 18:54Speaker 1: he first came into the barbershop, I cut his hair.
- 18:56Speaker 1: The first question this kid asked me was are you saying?
- 19:01Speaker 1: And I said, that's strange. I never really thank you question.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I said, yes, I'm saying. I'm used to asking like
- 19:09Speaker 1: what you like basketball? What what's your favorite team? He's alright,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you saying so talking to him and said, but what
- 19:16Speaker 1: do you want to be when you grow up?
- 19:18Speaker 4: He said, I want to be the presiding Bisshion of
- 19:20Speaker 4: the church and God at Christ. And this young man
- 19:24Speaker 4: and when I tell you, this young man right here,
- 19:27Speaker 4: he walks in that lane strong twelve years old. He
- 19:33Speaker 4: walks in that lane.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So when you talk about mentorships, see, you inspired me
- 19:40Speaker 1: to go from the rack to be spoken, right. So
- 19:45Speaker 1: I just bought him his first custom suit. Okay, yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 1: So you know this young man here, he's he's he's
- 19:51Speaker 1: very phenomenal. He's very you know, driven, and God has
- 19:55Speaker 1: his hands on this guy. But he looks up to me,
- 19:58Speaker 1: he watches what I do. He listened to what I say,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and that's very important. So that's what mentorship is about.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Does you have a product line like this have an
- 20:06Speaker 1: impact on people?
- 20:08Speaker 5: Your people?
- 20:09Speaker 4: It does, because what happens is when they hear you
- 20:13Speaker 4: say it and they watch you do it, then they
- 20:18Speaker 4: know there's action behind the words.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You know. So when they come in and they see
- 20:23Speaker 1: the Addies brand and I'm using on the man, what's
- 20:26Speaker 1: that right there?
- 20:27Speaker 5: Oh?
- 20:27Speaker 1: This is Addie such okay, man, that's male good? Where
- 20:31Speaker 1: do I get that? When you get it right here? Right? Wow?
- 20:34Speaker 1: Well are you represented for the company? No, I'm the
- 20:36Speaker 1: owner of the company. Wow. Oh how did you get
- 20:37Speaker 1: started with that? And then you just start talking and
- 20:40Speaker 1: inspired people and it's like, well, what do you enjoy doing? Well? Man,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I like to wash cars? Okay, Well have you ever
- 20:46Speaker 1: thought about, you know, starting your own business? Well? Man,
- 20:48Speaker 1: you know that.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Well, listen, you can always work for them, you can
- 20:52Speaker 4: work for you. Are you going to be more loyal
- 20:54Speaker 4: to them than you are going to be to you?
- 20:56Speaker 4: If you are, then you have to, you know, sell
- 20:58Speaker 4: what they're going to give you.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And a lot of people have stepped out and jumped
- 21:02Speaker 1: into the entrepreneurship and come back and say, you know what, man,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I really appreciate you pushing it because at that point,
- 21:07Speaker 1: once they step out, you don't want to leave them
- 21:09Speaker 1: out there, right. You always want to be that person
- 21:11Speaker 1: that they can talk about. Well, you know, as we
- 21:14Speaker 1: talk about secrets to your success and motivation and information,
- 21:19Speaker 1: somebody wants you to get into business of being a barber.
- 21:23Speaker 1: You know what steps to success would you offer to them?
- 21:28Speaker 1: So the first step, if you're trying to be a barber,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I want you to ask yourself, is this really what
- 21:35Speaker 1: I want to do? Am I passionate about this? Will
- 21:38Speaker 1: I do it for free? If you say no, then
- 21:41Speaker 1: you're not ready to be a barber? Right, But if
- 21:44Speaker 1: you get past.
- 21:44Speaker 4: That one, step two is I want you to find
- 21:46Speaker 4: you a good school, a school that's going to teach
- 21:49Speaker 4: you a to z not just cutting hair.
- 21:53Speaker 1: They need to teach you business, They need to teach
- 21:55Speaker 1: you marketing, they need to teach you personal skills. And
- 21:58Speaker 1: once you have that school that's going to teach you
- 22:00Speaker 1: all of those things there, then.
- 22:03Speaker 4: When you get into a barber shop, you have a
- 22:05Speaker 4: strong foundation and you build from their foundation there. So
- 22:10Speaker 4: once you build from that and you feel okay, you
- 22:13Speaker 4: know what, I want to open up my own shop. Okay, Well,
- 22:17Speaker 4: now you start looking at people that's doing the things
- 22:20Speaker 4: that you want to do or have the things that
- 22:22Speaker 4: you want to have, and understand it's okay.
- 22:25Speaker 1: To be a copycat. Just copy the right cat. It's
- 22:28Speaker 1: okay to be a copycat. Just copy the right cat.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And once you do that there, then you're going to
- 22:34Speaker 1: be off to success because people know if you're real
- 22:37Speaker 1: about what you're trying to do. Thank you for allowing
- 22:40Speaker 1: me to come into the Fade shop and hear your
- 22:43Speaker 1: story and learn some of your secrets to success.
