Latest / Life For Toledo / Asking Telling Questions Matt 22:41

- 0:00I'm thinking today primarily of Matthew 22, 41. It says,
- 0:04now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question.
- 0:08The Pharisees were kind of like the teaching pastors of the day. They were Jewish, of course,
- 0:14and they were proselyting and leading people to be Jewish. But the bottom line is they were
- 0:18teaching the Word of God the best they had it, which was the Old Testament up until that time.
- 0:22And Jesus asked them a question. Here's my suggestion. Face your opposition, whatever
- 0:27your opposition is, and ask your opposition a telling question. This is a way of shutting down
- 0:33all the frivolous challenges. He could have asked them anything, and they might normally have been
- 0:38happy to be addressed, especially in light of the light shining on them. They might have said,
- 0:44and as well, he should ask us questions. But the question he chose to ask them was a telling
- 0:49question, a question that showed something about them and something about him and something about
- 0:54God. I think about 1st John chapter 4, verse 1, it says, test the spirit, for not every spirit
- 1:00in the world is of Christ. In verse 2 there it says, this is how you know when it's of God,
- 1:07when it's the Holy Spirit of God, and that is if it proclaims, recognizes Jesus. And so if there are
- 1:12things in your life that don't recognize Jesus, then I don't suppose that you'll be surprised
- 1:16that they come across as opposition or stand against you. Here's the thing. Ask them, do you
- 1:21believe in Jesus? And if they don't, let that telling question determine what you do with them.
- 1:26Some things may have to be cut out. Some things may have to be let go. Stand firm in Christ,
- 1:32and God will stand with you every single day. Just a special hi to Terry. Looking forward to
