- 1:30Speaker 1: likes to do. It's what he likes to share. Now
- 1:32Speaker 1: it's time to hear from my man, Rashan McDonald Money
- 1:35Speaker 1: Making Conversations. Here we come. I'm having a busy day,
- 1:40Speaker 1: a busy morning. You know, my morning started four am.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And every time I tell people that, they just go
- 1:46Speaker 1: you lying in or you and then the first thing
- 1:49Speaker 1: and say every day every day I go, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 1: five money through Friday and four fifteen. But then my
- 1:55Speaker 1: body gets to me up because it's been trained. It's
- 1:58Speaker 1: like it's like if you if you if you been
- 2:00Speaker 1: trained to exercise your body physically, then guess what if
- 2:04Speaker 1: you keep doing it? Then everybody gonna as they have
- 2:06Speaker 1: give muscle memory. Well my my, my body has a
- 2:10Speaker 1: brain memory, and so I can go there too, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: it's gonna wake me up. It's like, okay, really really
- 2:15Speaker 1: really really get up. And then next thing you know,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I'm up and guess what, I'm busy. I'm making money.
- 2:21Speaker 1: My next guest is on the phone. Made him many
- 2:24Speaker 1: many moons ago. But you know, in between all those
- 2:27Speaker 1: many many moons, he's been busy. Uh. He started out
- 2:30Speaker 1: on the Nickelodeon sitcom called Cousin Skeeter. I can I
- 2:37Speaker 1: can tell you he's a long waitings Cousin Skeeters. Now.
- 2:40Speaker 1: When I officially met him was on UPM sitcom called
- 2:43Speaker 1: One on One where he was starting alongside Flex and
- 2:46Speaker 1: Alexander and mcgirl Kyla Pratt. That's how I was introduced
- 2:50Speaker 1: to him by Kyler Pratt. He is an AMMY Award
- 2:52Speaker 1: winning actor in entrepreneur Please work with the money making conversations,
- 2:56Speaker 1: Robert Richard, what's going on world? How you doing? Man?
- 3:01Speaker 1: To be here? Man? Thank you so much for having you.
- 3:03Speaker 1: First off, let's give up to God for bringing us
- 3:05Speaker 1: together and good health and high spirits. Let's get into it. Okay, well,
- 3:09Speaker 1: what do you want to get into first, Because you're
- 3:11Speaker 1: you're a guy who has multi levels of income in
- 3:15Speaker 1: your lifestyle, your your visionary and so let's let's let's
- 3:18Speaker 1: let's talk about something like a Highway Fit. Let's talk
- 3:22Speaker 1: about that first. Yeah, so Highway Fit is my social
- 3:26Speaker 1: health initiative. Uh, change the way that America in the
- 3:29Speaker 1: entire world sees health, fitness and nutrition. So what we
- 3:34Speaker 1: did was we really just simplified it to the easiest,
- 3:37Speaker 1: easiest point. Uh it's no weight, it's no gym, and
- 3:41Speaker 1: it's no travels, so you don't have to go anywhere
- 3:43Speaker 1: to do it, and you can do it anytime, anywhere,
- 3:46Speaker 1: every day on Jack's ten minutes. And it's medically sound
- 3:50Speaker 1: and position endorsed and it's successible for all. Okay, now
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know everybody in my booth, everybody on the radio,
- 3:56Speaker 1: whe she went okay, ten minutes. Who don't have ten
- 4:00Speaker 1: in minutes now, so that's it. Tell me to come on,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I Robert, Now, don't throw it out there like that.
- 4:05Speaker 1: You got a brother over here, because I'm a guy
- 4:07Speaker 1: who who eats crispy cream donuts. Now, I'm just tell
- 4:10Speaker 1: you trying to change my lifestyle and ten minutes help me. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: can you give me a little bit more? Or do
- 4:14Speaker 1: I have to go to a website to get more? Well,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you can see all the workouts that I do. I
- 4:20Speaker 1: did the same tim and ite workout every single day
- 4:22Speaker 1: and I have for the last five years. Um. I
- 4:26Speaker 1: lost about thirty pounds, but then like the first like
- 4:29Speaker 1: probably four or five weeks, um, and then just was
- 4:32Speaker 1: able to maintain it because I show you the same
- 4:34Speaker 1: exercise every single day. Um. You can go on my website,
- 4:37Speaker 1: the Robert Richard dot com, the Robert Rochard dot com
- 4:43Speaker 1: and if you scroll down like two tabs, there's a
- 4:46Speaker 1: highway fit tab. You press on it and all my
- 4:48Speaker 1: workouts are right there. Um. And and the great thing
- 4:52Speaker 1: about it was, you know I developed this is my doctor.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I asked him like a simple question like what is
- 4:59Speaker 1: working out out? That I've never had something to ask
- 5:02Speaker 1: that question you before. So we figured out what working
- 5:05Speaker 1: out was. We found the most simplest efficient way to
- 5:08Speaker 1: work out. And then um. The first person that I had.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Her name is Ms. Tiffany carr Um. She was in
- 5:15Speaker 1: uh and Winston Sale of North Carolina, and she was
- 5:19Speaker 1: four hunder pounds and now she's a hundred and fifty
- 5:21Speaker 1: pounds of beauty and she's amazing um. And she was
- 5:24Speaker 1: able to do that with just a ten minute commitment
- 5:26Speaker 1: every single day, okay, now, which is really oh, this
- 5:30Speaker 1: is great because see I get up a four fifteen
- 5:33Speaker 1: and you know, I do lightweights. I don't do I
- 5:37Speaker 1: do trels. That's it. You can laugh at me. I
- 5:41Speaker 1: do lateral pull down. I may do seventy pounds. I'm
- 5:43Speaker 1: not trying to go in to theay NFL, but I
- 5:46Speaker 1: don't know. I don't. I don't my walk that I
- 5:49Speaker 1: do on my treadmill, it's just ten minutes. I make
- 5:53Speaker 1: sure I do that every day because right, you know,
- 5:56Speaker 1: people a lot of people understand. You put a little
- 5:58Speaker 1: inklent on it and you walk and just don't don't
- 6:01Speaker 1: hold onto the machine. Then you can work out your
- 6:04Speaker 1: upper body as well as your abs if you do
- 6:07Speaker 1: it right. And I'm talking, it's your road, your freedom, man.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You know that's how that's how we see it. And
- 6:14Speaker 1: so the robin know what I'm talking about. That's why
- 6:16Speaker 1: when you see a lot of sprinters when they when
- 6:18Speaker 1: they pull off their shirt, cause they quickly pull off
- 6:20Speaker 1: their shirt. They abs are like crazy crazy bit like concrete.
- 6:26Speaker 1: The find right because when you walk, if you if
- 6:30Speaker 1: you remember, if you lift your legs, when you lift
- 6:32Speaker 1: your legs when you walk, you're actually impacting your ass,
- 6:36Speaker 1: especially the lower part of your ass. A lot of
- 6:38Speaker 1: people don't understand that when you're when you're doing workouts,
- 6:41Speaker 1: if you slow it down and go just to the
- 6:43Speaker 1: basic of what is trying to what God has given
- 6:46Speaker 1: you first of all as a body, what you do
- 6:48Speaker 1: with it, He allows you to make that decision. What
- 6:50Speaker 1: a lot of people do is complicate the process by
- 6:53Speaker 1: if you if you're walking around here, you don't feel
- 6:55Speaker 1: like picking up your legs, you know, dragging your feet,
- 6:58Speaker 1: sliding around, just drawing your heels because you don't want
- 7:01Speaker 1: to move walk fast. If you just pick your feet
- 7:04Speaker 1: up and just start consciously raising your legs, lifting your
- 7:08Speaker 1: knees up a little bit higher, it would affect the
- 7:11Speaker 1: lower portion of your body. What your turn will affect
- 7:13Speaker 1: your upper portion, which your turn will affect the way
- 7:16Speaker 1: you walk and your and your posture. It's all right,
- 7:22Speaker 1: it's all correct. Yes, Now, how did you how did
- 7:25Speaker 1: you figure this out? Sir? You said ten minutes, ten
- 7:28Speaker 1: minutes can change your life. And why it's just the
- 7:31Speaker 1: first time I'm hearing about this, sir, I'm kind of mad,
- 7:34Speaker 1: so so so. UM. A lot of my videos are
- 7:37Speaker 1: on YouTube, UM, and that kind of brought me to
- 7:41Speaker 1: making my own websites that you can get more information. UM.
- 7:44Speaker 1: But yeah, I asked my one of my best friends
- 7:46Speaker 1: is a double board certified UM surgeon by the American
- 7:50Speaker 1: Border Services, and I asked myself, what's working out? And
- 7:54Speaker 1: we figured out that no matter whether you're running or
- 7:58Speaker 1: you know, weightlifting or sprinting or doing cross that or
- 8:02Speaker 1: even swimming, UM, that that working out is the light
- 8:07Speaker 1: Michael tears of muscle fiber. So we said, okay, if
- 8:13Speaker 1: the human body was a chopstick, and I asked someone
- 8:17Speaker 1: to sort of break a chopstick, which is how you
- 8:21Speaker 1: that breaking of the muscle fibers. Everyone would snap it right.
- 8:26Speaker 1: What you wouldn't what you wouldn't try and do the chopstick.
- 8:28Speaker 1: You wouldn't try and put in between your hands and
- 8:30Speaker 1: squeeze it because you know that's not efficient. You know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you wouldn't try and pull it apart. There's not it's
- 8:34Speaker 1: gonna take too much energy. And you wouldn't try and
- 8:36Speaker 1: twist it. You just snap the chopstick. So I asked,
- 8:39Speaker 1: if I said work we created a workout? Is this
- 8:41Speaker 1: all these sort of snapping motions muscle fiber and then
- 8:46Speaker 1: that in turn put your body into slight shock with
- 8:49Speaker 1: register raises your heart rate, your sweating going, and you're
- 8:53Speaker 1: respirators and going. And so it's this thing. The official
- 8:57Speaker 1: term is faced down isometrics, but a lot of people
- 9:00Speaker 1: note is like planking, so sort of like when you're
- 9:03Speaker 1: on the ground facing the floor head down, holding your
- 9:08Speaker 1: body weight up. It's actually the same force that's happening
- 9:12Speaker 1: when you're not chopstick. Well, I want to make sure
- 9:15Speaker 1: I give what ep M. That's a that's a company
- 9:19Speaker 1: brand of your a therapeutic brand of oils that you
- 9:22Speaker 1: bring out. Talk to us about that because that's something
- 9:24Speaker 1: I want to promote on my social media. Oh absolutely,
- 9:27Speaker 1: So ep M is better science, better medicine. And while
- 9:32Speaker 1: we have formulas that are all earth their ultra premium
- 9:37Speaker 1: therapeutic great essential oils and they are amazing. We have
- 9:40Speaker 1: our flagship it's called Reborn. It's for muscle and joint pain.
- 9:45Speaker 1: And you can go to e p M product X
- 9:48Speaker 1: dot com, So ep M Products dot com and that's
- 9:52Speaker 1: products with an X dot com. UM and we're also
- 9:55Speaker 1: on Instagram. You can go to ep M Products on Instagram,
- 10:00Speaker 1: on Facebook, EPN product X on Facebook. UM and we're
- 10:04Speaker 1: kind of transform suffering for all. Now, let me uh
- 10:09Speaker 1: you know when you use these type of products, the oils,
- 10:12Speaker 1: what are the purpose of it? What are the what
- 10:14Speaker 1: do they affect? We have got a ball head and
- 10:19Speaker 1: or I get out that shower just kind of dry.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I gotta put a little all on it. So we
- 10:24Speaker 1: have we have we have about six products up to
- 10:26Speaker 1: the market right now. Reborn from muscle and joint pains.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I have any kind of like chroducts paying back pain,
- 10:32Speaker 1: neck pain, knee pain, risk, arthriotis, any kindstant like that,
- 10:36Speaker 1: any kind of pain you put reborn on you put
- 10:38Speaker 1: it on a couple of dabs on your fingertips and
- 10:40Speaker 1: put on any area of focus. Um Allure is for beauty.
- 10:44Speaker 1: If you have poriotis, ex ama, hyper pigmentation, sun spots,
- 10:48Speaker 1: age spots, wrinkles, you put a little bit of alure
- 10:52Speaker 1: on your face, your neckline, whatever I'm talking about healing
- 10:54Speaker 1: yourselves which helps them. You generated properly which restores your youth. Um.
- 11:00Speaker 1: We have a product called Flight for professional athletes. UM.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Lovely Miss Asia Curry, Steph Curry's wife has bought some
- 11:07Speaker 1: Flight for her husband for Steph Curry, UM and UM
- 11:12Speaker 1: and I have also a wide receiver yesterday from the
- 11:15Speaker 1: Houston Houston Texans. Jon Jay Hopkins bought Flight yesterday for
- 11:19Speaker 1: UM for a knee injury. So UM, that's that's Flight.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And then we have some other products. Elite is for
- 11:27Speaker 1: an immortal spot treatment if you've got any kind of
- 11:30Speaker 1: like cystic acne or any kind of like hard Blewmenshi
- 11:32Speaker 1: trying to just get out of your skin immediately Elite UH.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And then we have Calm for mothers and babies and
- 11:41Speaker 1: Urgent for first aid and external prepare. So that's a
- 11:45Speaker 1: part of your brand that you really are, that you
- 11:48Speaker 1: really are marketing, and you're starting to tell me celebrity names.
- 11:51Speaker 1: So accepting this and also from an athlete's from athletic
- 11:56Speaker 1: from athletes, it makes a good rect people. You know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: people used the reborn on their dog to people who
- 12:02Speaker 1: have you know, great danes or dogs that have a
- 12:04Speaker 1: little hit problem or whatever. We sell Flight to horses
- 12:08Speaker 1: training people who have horses and trainers for thoroughbreds and
- 12:12Speaker 1: for quarter horse racing. Uh they buy flight. Uh yeah,
- 12:16Speaker 1: we're really in this stealing thing and transforming suffering for all.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I want to end on a It's been a great interview,
- 12:22Speaker 1: but it was a question you had. I want to
- 12:23Speaker 1: end on that because I think we're gonna have fun
- 12:25Speaker 1: with it. It's about superhero? What superhero would you want
- 12:29Speaker 1: to be? And why? That question? I said, I would
- 12:32Speaker 1: say that for the end because I because I'm a
- 12:34Speaker 1: big Marvel fans, so I can I can ride with
- 12:36Speaker 1: you and any superhero you're throw out there. If you
- 12:38Speaker 1: make up a superhero, I can ride with you. So
- 12:40Speaker 1: Devid Roberts, what superhero would you want to be? And why? Yeah?
- 12:45Speaker 1: So honestly, like the I would say it's about three
- 12:48Speaker 1: of them, because you know, we'll all kind of relate
- 12:51Speaker 1: to what we like to do. And so I like
- 12:53Speaker 1: the technology stuff. So so so we got to see
- 12:57Speaker 1: black Panther and Black Panthers like you in in Waconda,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and they have all this sort of hidden technology that
- 13:05Speaker 1: no one knows about and that like speaks to me,
- 13:08Speaker 1: speaks to like what I like science and like tropology
- 13:11Speaker 1: and stuff like that. So between like Black Panther, Green
- 13:14Speaker 1: Landers the same way and an iron Man, they both
- 13:17Speaker 1: kind of have more of your machine sort of like
- 13:20Speaker 1: uh science, uh technology, future four type stuff in their superpower.
- 13:25Speaker 1: So those are the three that I really lovely. I'm
- 13:28Speaker 1: Captain America. Love it, Captain Captain cap I love Iron
- 13:34Speaker 1: Man for me a mix of Captain America a little Airman.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I'm done, I'm small and I can recover from a
- 13:41Speaker 1: buff whooping. Hey man, that's it's been a great interview.
- 13:47Speaker 1: In your man, Please remember there's a money making conversation
- 13:50Speaker 1: can be your home, but in your brands. I want,
- 13:52Speaker 1: I definitely want to support you for your your banners.
- 13:55Speaker 1: On my social media got almost a million followers, so
- 13:58Speaker 1: guess what. People are engaged with what I do, and
- 14:00Speaker 1: I want to be engaged with what you do. Robert,
- 14:02Speaker 1: Please understand I'm a fan of yours and I keep
- 14:06Speaker 1: keep Remember money making conversation is your home. We'll be
- 14:08Speaker 1: right back with more from Martha McDonald and money making
- 14:11Speaker 1: conversations don't touch that. I saw this new story where
- 14:16Speaker 1: burglars were asked how they broke into homes and the
- 14:18Speaker 1: one thing every burglar did first was knocked on the
- 14:21Speaker 1: door and if no one answered, they broke in. That's
- 14:24Speaker 1: what sold me on my new Blink x T two cameras.
- 14:27Speaker 1: They detect motion, so if someone gets near my cameras,
- 14:30Speaker 1: I get to learn on my Blink smartphone app with

- 14:35Speaker 1: talk feature that lets me talk to whoever is they're
- 14:38Speaker 1: using my phone, from telling the delivery guy where to
- 14:41Speaker 1: leave the package to saying hi to the kids at
- 14:43Speaker 1: the door. With Blink cameras, it's like I'm always home.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Blink cameras or wire free set up in minutes and

- 15:08Speaker 1: Blink cameras are available on Amazon and Best Buy. Blink
- 15:12Speaker 1: is an Amazon company and it works with Alexa. Sean
- 15:17Speaker 1: McDonald is back well more than we can running Best
- 15:23Speaker 1: Stuff Show. But I'm back here having fun with my staff,
- 15:26Speaker 1: having fun with providing information what's important and having fun
- 15:30Speaker 1: with a return guests. I had his Uh it was
- 15:33Speaker 1: it was a power couple interview that I had on
- 15:36Speaker 1: my show and guess what they needed to be individuals?
- 15:39Speaker 1: So I brought him back by himself. My next guest
- 15:42Speaker 1: is a Farmer employee of IBM and Microsoft. He had
- 15:45Speaker 1: spent the last eight years in the mobile app space.
- 15:48Speaker 1: He built, published, and sole a portfolio or one hundred
- 15:51Speaker 1: plus mobile apps which have collectively been downloaded over twelve
- 15:54Speaker 1: million times worldwide. He is an expert in mobile app publishing,
- 15:59Speaker 1: marketing and monetization, author of the Seven Steps to App Success,
- 16:04Speaker 1: and host of the brand new podcast Game Up Growth,
- 16:07Speaker 1: which is debated and uh they was it debated in
- 16:12Speaker 1: the debut in the top one Herd your Business podcast
- 16:16Speaker 1: on iTunes. Please welcome to Money Making Conversation. Muyo muyo
- 16:22Speaker 1: o com they almost got it. I messed it up again, Okay,
- 16:28Speaker 1: muyo Oh CO may work on it? About it man, No, no, no, no.
- 16:34Speaker 1: We're going a long term relationship, so I'm not gonna
- 16:37Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do that now. This is I got
- 16:38Speaker 1: you back because I love you and you, and you
- 16:40Speaker 1: bring a brand to this radio show that I and
- 16:43Speaker 1: this podcast show and this um when so many different
- 16:46Speaker 1: levels will HBCU campuses, and it's a brand that's respected.
- 16:50Speaker 1: And I also have to respect my guests, and you're
- 16:52Speaker 1: one of my respected guests. First of all, thank you
- 16:54Speaker 1: for coming back on the show. How are you doing?
- 16:57Speaker 1: I'm doing, I'm doing amazing, How are you awesome? When
- 17:00Speaker 1: we was on the show last time, like I said,
- 17:01Speaker 1: I had both it was a power couple interview and wow,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I ran out of time and we were just talking
- 17:09Speaker 1: about I wanted to just talk about the journey because
- 17:11Speaker 1: I'm a farmer IBM employee. My degree is in mathematics,
- 17:14Speaker 1: and I transitioned into the entertainment world. You you, you
- 17:18Speaker 1: transistioned to more of the technical and now you're more
- 17:21Speaker 1: of the app space and and I guess you know
- 17:24Speaker 1: branding and and and just growth in that digital platform
- 17:28Speaker 1: that's out there that's really dominating the marketplace. When you
- 17:31Speaker 1: was at IBA, did you see this evolving in this
- 17:33Speaker 1: direction or it just Hey, man, I saw an opportunity
- 17:37Speaker 1: that I jumped at it. I was at IBM to
- 17:39Speaker 1: do a certain task and I just saw that it
- 17:42Speaker 1: was gonna limit my overall vision, so I guess the
- 17:46Speaker 1: way I would put it, so, um, last time I
- 17:48Speaker 1: made a mistake, the last time I had before becoming
- 17:52Speaker 1: a full time entrepreneur that was at Microsoft. I got
- 17:54Speaker 1: them confused now. But what happened is that at that
- 17:59Speaker 1: time just kind of becoming dissatisfied and I kind of
- 18:02Speaker 1: just drew it as a funding swarch for whatever I
- 18:05Speaker 1: would do in the future, and I was looking around
- 18:07Speaker 1: for different opportunities and apps. The mobile app space happened
- 18:11Speaker 1: to be an exciting one that I came across or
- 18:13Speaker 1: they learn more about it. I read some books, I
- 18:16Speaker 1: took some courses, started to become more knowledgeable, started doing
- 18:18Speaker 1: some experiments, and it kind of after a while, it
- 18:22Speaker 1: ended up growing and growing and became something more real.
- 18:26Speaker 1: What exactly is it? You know the word word app?
- 18:30Speaker 1: You you you have these mobile platforms, you have of
- 18:32Speaker 1: course additional website platform and then you have what exactly
- 18:37Speaker 1: is an app? Sure thing? I mean and app it's
- 18:41Speaker 1: just a piece of software that delivers some kind of functionality.
- 18:45Speaker 1: It could be a game, it could be a productivity software.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Their apps that people use to book care appointments. Right
- 18:54Speaker 1: for me, sometimes people um end up focusing too much
- 18:58Speaker 1: on trying to develop some crazy I think it all
- 19:00Speaker 1: comes back to the business is about. You want to
- 19:03Speaker 1: solve a problem for a customer. So um, this is
- 19:06Speaker 1: just one way of delivering in a place where everybody is.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Everybody's doing their phones every day, you know, even while
- 19:12Speaker 1: they're driving nowadays, right right, and that's where we are
- 19:16Speaker 1: at now in business world. You know, everything is immediate,
- 19:19Speaker 1: everything is fast. I've just seen the evolution I've designed
- 19:23Speaker 1: would not be designed. I've had several apps designed for
- 19:26Speaker 1: large events I've served over the years, just giving my
- 19:30Speaker 1: customers a place to go where they can learn about
- 19:32Speaker 1: the events schedule, learn about the things they can buy,
- 19:36Speaker 1: learn about where they can buy tickets for various shows
- 19:38Speaker 1: that I put on place. So when you when you
- 19:41Speaker 1: when you are giving the opportunity to create an app,
- 19:44Speaker 1: are there any certain things that has to be provided
- 19:47Speaker 1: to you to develop it? Um? Well, yes, yes, you
- 19:52Speaker 1: have to have a very good understanding of who it
- 19:55Speaker 1: is that you're trying to serve. UM, Like I mentioned before,
- 19:59Speaker 1: what proble gonna you're trying to solve for them? And
- 20:02Speaker 1: I mean those would be the main things. And then
- 20:03Speaker 1: I would also look at in terms of the other
- 20:07Speaker 1: there're probably other existing solutions in the space, whether those
- 20:10Speaker 1: are apps or at their websites or news letters, whatever.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You want to see what people are already doing. It's
- 20:15Speaker 1: working that you might be able to borrow from. And
- 20:17Speaker 1: that's normal, normally a pretty good place to start. Well,
- 20:21Speaker 1: reach maskets because you are the author of seven Steps
- 20:24Speaker 1: to App Success. Why, Um, it's just based on my
- 20:30Speaker 1: experience over the last seven eight years. And what's happened
- 20:33Speaker 1: is that, um, you know, naturally i'm doing apps, people
- 20:37Speaker 1: find out they're here twelve million downloads and get curious.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So everybody wants to have a conversation to pick my print.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And I'm sure you know from from your experience, like
- 20:46Speaker 1: there's just not that much time in the world, but
- 20:47Speaker 1: you still want to help people. So this was a
- 20:50Speaker 1: way for me to be able to provide provide the
- 20:53Speaker 1: knowledge and people can just get it and um, it's
- 20:58Speaker 1: it's quickly consumable and um there's not that problem of
- 21:02Speaker 1: can I pick your brain and pick your brainer? So
- 21:04Speaker 1: it's really interesting talking to you because there's so many
- 21:06Speaker 1: platforms where people tell you to grow your brand, to
- 21:09Speaker 1: develop you know, you have the Instagram, you have Twitter,
- 21:12Speaker 1: you have Snapchat, you have Facebook, and you have this
- 21:15Speaker 1: world and apps? How do what do you feel that
- 21:17Speaker 1: you get your most exposure? Where do you go to
- 21:20Speaker 1: build your brain to market your bread? What platform do
- 21:23Speaker 1: you use? Got it? So, Um, there's a few. There's
- 21:27Speaker 1: a few that I'm focused on right now. So one,
- 21:29Speaker 1: of course you mentioned I have a podcast. It's called
- 21:32Speaker 1: The Game of Growth Podcasts. That's that's grown pretty well. Um,
- 21:36Speaker 1: you know, there's a strong response from the start um.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And I really like podcasting because it's one of the
- 21:42Speaker 1: only mediums nowadays where somebody will really give you They're
- 21:46Speaker 1: almost uninterrupted attention for long periods of time. So you know,
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's like people are spending hours with me a week
- 21:52Speaker 1: listening to me on the podcast, and they almost feel
- 21:56Speaker 1: as if you're it's not that you're selling, you're almost
- 21:59Speaker 1: like a trusted friend. I'm sure you have that experience
- 22:01Speaker 1: with your radio show now with your podcasts as well.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Then the other other ones for me would be, um, Instagram.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So I like Instagram because I feel like there's just
- 22:13Speaker 1: so much opportunity. People are open to meeting new people
- 22:17Speaker 1: on Instagram and seeing what they're doing. And if you're
- 22:19Speaker 1: producing content that they find valuable that resonates with them,
- 22:22Speaker 1: they might follow you, they might share with their friends,
- 22:25Speaker 1: and so really quick example of this for for our
- 22:28Speaker 1: new app color new are Um. I recently posted about
- 22:32Speaker 1: it and some big Instagram pages picked it up. Ball
- 22:36Speaker 1: Alert posted about the way of blow up with them,
- 22:38Speaker 1: um you know who hugely so UM the post on
- 22:42Speaker 1: boiler Alert and retweeted it out to all of his
- 22:45Speaker 1: Instagram followers, and so hundreds of thousands of people. So
- 22:49Speaker 1: this app and thousands of people downloaded it and told
- 22:52Speaker 1: their friends all because it's out there, it's on Instagram,
- 22:55Speaker 1: they're already they're interacting. Um the I mean, the content
- 22:58Speaker 1: does have to be good, as the rent say, with
- 23:00Speaker 1: them they care about, but it does provide you that
- 23:04Speaker 1: instant access to so many people, and I think they're
- 23:07Speaker 1: about four jamillion people using it every month, bigger than
- 23:10Speaker 1: countries right right. The interesting part about all this with
- 23:14Speaker 1: the apps A podcasts, especially podcast podcasts, seem to be
- 23:18Speaker 1: on fire right now. What in listening to people and
- 23:23Speaker 1: launching podcast what do you consider on an annual Basically
- 23:27Speaker 1: it's tied to downloads and plays. What is successful monthly
- 23:31Speaker 1: download and you know, just because you have these brands
- 23:35Speaker 1: out there to millions and we're not talking about that.
- 23:39Speaker 1: What what do they consider a successful annual downloads? Or
- 23:42Speaker 1: plays that you that you should have on a podcast
- 23:46Speaker 1: and you you're good, you're great, and you're on fire,
- 23:50Speaker 1: gotta got it. So I mean, I actually wouldn't even
- 23:52Speaker 1: look at it. I wouldn't. I want to see a country,
- 23:54Speaker 1: but I wouldn't look at it that way. I think
- 23:56Speaker 1: sometimes people compare. You know, there's there's step onet in
- 23:59Speaker 1: somebody us is like chapter twenty and get discouraged and
- 24:02Speaker 1: that's the worst thing. But you know my wife, for example,
- 24:06Speaker 1: my my wife did Hustle Pro. She just hit two
- 24:09Speaker 1: million downslods recently and she's getting like a hundred thousand
- 24:12Speaker 1: downloads of months. Right, Um, that's not where her podcast
- 24:16Speaker 1: started and um, you know she she had to build
- 24:20Speaker 1: up to there and it just happened over time. Podcast
- 24:23Speaker 1: right now relatively new. Um, but we've reached around uh
- 24:28Speaker 1: ten ten thousand downloads per month. So you can see
- 24:31Speaker 1: quite different numbers. But for me, it's still I can
- 24:34Speaker 1: still see the impact that it's making on people. But
- 24:37Speaker 1: like even their their podcasts, they have less downloads that
- 24:40Speaker 1: are still highly impactful. And there are people that will
- 24:42Speaker 1: tune in each and every week and they get so
- 24:44Speaker 1: much out of it. And those people, those people who
- 24:47Speaker 1: devote that much time to your podcast are going to
- 24:50Speaker 1: be some of your strongest brand advocates. You know what
- 24:52Speaker 1: I mean. That's all I'm saying. So now let's talk
- 24:55Speaker 1: about a couple of things. Just talk about your brand
- 24:56Speaker 1: new apter that you have. About that, Yes, sir, why
- 25:01Speaker 1: why you know? You're You're busy man, You're busy man.
- 25:03Speaker 1: You were talking about you got three platforms social media
- 25:06Speaker 1: and you just don't stop. You just don't stop. Yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 1: So we we, um, we actually throw we we cut
- 25:15Speaker 1: a lot of ideas out and put a lot of
- 25:17Speaker 1: things into the parking lot. But this is one that
- 25:20Speaker 1: I had to do. So the app, it's called color Now,
- 25:22Speaker 1: are right now. It's available on iOS, It's coming through
- 25:26Speaker 1: to Google Play. I've been catching a lot of hell
- 25:28Speaker 1: from so shout out to my androids toam we got you.
- 25:30Speaker 1: We're coming soon. But um, it's a coloring book app.
- 25:34Speaker 1: And you like coloring book? Why? And so I definitely
- 25:38Speaker 1: having colored since childhood. I didn't know anything about the
- 25:41Speaker 1: coloring book for adults trends. But I came across the
- 25:44Speaker 1: trend a couple of years ago. I was doing some
- 25:46Speaker 1: app store research periodically. I'll just go through the app
- 25:49Speaker 1: store and see what. You know. You gotta stay up
- 25:50Speaker 1: on your field, on your craft. So I'm going through
- 25:53Speaker 1: and I see there are a bunch of coloring book
- 25:55Speaker 1: for adults apps becoming very popular, being successful, making money.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I didn't erstand why. So it turns out that people
- 26:02Speaker 1: use them to have fun and to relax, kind of
- 26:04Speaker 1: therapeutic effects. So um, I started playing around with them
- 26:07Speaker 1: a bit, and I started to understand the appeal. Then
- 26:10Speaker 1: I also, of course noticed that not a lot of
- 26:14Speaker 1: these well they mostly just ignored black people for the
- 26:18Speaker 1: most part, um black people in after thought, in most
- 26:20Speaker 1: of these coloring books. And I start figuring to myself, Okay,
- 26:23Speaker 1: millions of people a year are using these things, but
- 26:26Speaker 1: they don't, you know, they don't acknowledge that black people
- 26:28Speaker 1: are people, So that that's that's that's an issue. But
- 26:31Speaker 1: I kind of put that suicide for a while. But
- 26:34Speaker 1: we watched Black Panther Whenever came out a year ago,
- 26:37Speaker 1: two years ago, UM, and it had such a big
- 26:39Speaker 1: impact on myself when my wife on everybody right, even
- 26:43Speaker 1: some of the developers I worked with overseas. One of
- 26:45Speaker 1: my developers, one of my artists in Sri Lanka, that
- 26:48Speaker 1: he watched this seven times within the first two weeks.
- 26:51Speaker 1: So I started thinking about, man, you got this black
- 26:55Speaker 1: story with a black cast and black actors, black director.
- 26:59Speaker 1: You know, the the money behind it might not have
- 27:01Speaker 1: been black, but everything black, and it has such a
- 27:03Speaker 1: big impact billions on the opening and right, you know,
- 27:08Speaker 1: so we just right out of time or you again,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I tell you some you are just a talk of
- 27:14Speaker 1: big time. I gotta bring you back on the show
- 27:16Speaker 1: again third time. Third time I saw this new story
- 27:19Speaker 1: where burglars were asked how they broke into homes and
- 27:21Speaker 1: the one thing every burglar did first was knocked on
- 27:24Speaker 1: the door and if no one answered, they broke in.
- 27:27Speaker 1: That's what sold me on my new Blink x T
- 27:29Speaker 1: two cameras. They detect motion, so if someone gets near
- 27:32Speaker 1: my cameras again to learn on my Blink smartphone app

- 27:44Speaker 1: to leave the package to saying hi to the kids

- 29:19Speaker 1: said Richard McDonald. He said, I'm Phil Thornton. I said, yeah,
- 29:22Speaker 1: you're about to do my show. He said that's right.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Let me get some information about him before I officially
- 29:26Speaker 1: bring him up. My Next Guest is a music executive,
- 29:29Speaker 1: television and film producer for nanthropists, and entrepreneur. He is
- 29:33Speaker 1: the senior vice president and general manager of r C
- 29:36Speaker 1: A Inspiration, a division of Sony Music Entertainment and r
- 29:40Speaker 1: C Inspiration is the number one label and gospel music
- 29:43Speaker 1: home to Kurt Franklin, That's My Man, Fred Hammond, That's
- 29:46Speaker 1: my Man, the Travis green Leandrea Johnson, and Man Him Anymore.
- 29:51Speaker 1: R C Inspiration also released snoops acclaimed gospel album Bible
- 29:55Speaker 1: of Love. Please Welcome to Money Making Conversations, Phil Thornton. Hey, Chean,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I feel like you're doing. How you doing? My friends?
- 30:06Speaker 1: Good to meet you. Outside of the airport. Outside of that,
- 30:09Speaker 1: how about that you start refreshing after this vacationsh I
- 30:14Speaker 1: look for friends according to my staff, which which means
- 30:18Speaker 1: I probably pretty scary proud Tom leave it now now,
- 30:21Speaker 1: it's interesting reason through your resume? What what? What? What
- 30:24Speaker 1: is more? What? What do you feel more successful about
- 30:27Speaker 1: the music side of this? Your television side? Television side
- 30:30Speaker 1: is exploded? What's going on with that? Yeah, you know,
- 30:33Speaker 1: that's a very popular question. I I feel success on
- 30:37Speaker 1: the music side as an executive, but I've also, as
- 30:39Speaker 1: you noticed, done some great award winning content on the
- 30:41Speaker 1: television and films. So it's kind of like I can't
- 30:44Speaker 1: take between the two kids. I love them both, you know.
- 30:46Speaker 1: But I love the music side and I love the
- 30:48Speaker 1: TV and films out I told, you know, gratified and
- 30:51Speaker 1: fulfilled on them both. But I love both, I really do,
- 30:53Speaker 1: and I love combining the two. Where I can't now?
- 30:56Speaker 1: Where are you based at? Where's your w's whore's home?
- 30:58Speaker 1: Home is now in Nashville, Tennessee. And why uh? Well,
- 31:05Speaker 1: a few years ago I had an opportunity to work
- 31:07Speaker 1: for another label, which was their original reason why I
- 31:09Speaker 1: moved to Nashville. And then into I made the transition
- 31:13Speaker 1: over to Sony, but pride to that I was based
- 31:16Speaker 1: in Los Angeles and that's why, you know, produced a
- 31:18Speaker 1: lot of my content as we was in Atlanta. So yeah,
- 31:20Speaker 1: but I've been in um Nashville seven years now. But
- 31:23Speaker 1: it's really interesting when you talk about gospel and you know,
- 31:26Speaker 1: because it's an interesting genure who because listen R and
- 31:30Speaker 1: but you kind of know who you are and B
- 31:31Speaker 1: fans are and you kind of you know you hip
- 31:34Speaker 1: hop you know your hip hop fans or and then
- 31:36Speaker 1: you have this lineal audience out there, geral uh gen
- 31:41Speaker 1: z audience is out there, So yeah, who are gospel phase?
- 31:45Speaker 1: I remember I struggled with that when I put together
- 31:47Speaker 1: a tool with Steve Harvey and Kirk Franklin, I didn't
- 31:50Speaker 1: know where to advertise. I didn't know how to reach them,
- 31:54Speaker 1: you know because because you know, because you know the
- 31:56Speaker 1: gospel people, they dancing Nightlove too. So absolutely so I
- 32:00Speaker 1: mean first, I mean the gospel consumer is that African
- 32:04Speaker 1: American adult um and you touched on when you had
- 32:06Speaker 1: Kirk and Steed tour years ago. To me, that was
- 32:09Speaker 1: the perfect sweet spot. But what we've noticed is that
- 32:12Speaker 1: thirty plus African American female is our target for most
- 32:17Speaker 1: of our releases. Now we have some younger artists that
- 32:19Speaker 1: you know, kind of skewed to our eighteen to twenty
- 32:22Speaker 1: four demo that's really streaming heavy. But when we're when
- 32:24Speaker 1: we're putting out of Kirk Franklin record on Marvin Staff
- 32:26Speaker 1: or Donnie mcclark, some of our you know legends, you
- 32:29Speaker 1: know on the roster, you know we're talking to that
- 32:31Speaker 1: thirty h plus. You know, a female who's listening to
- 32:34Speaker 1: Jill Scott, who's listening to Anthony Hamilton's who's listening to her?
- 32:38Speaker 1: And Lucky Day and then some of the New or
- 32:40Speaker 1: R and B as well. But then you know, this
- 32:41Speaker 1: gospel is very much a part of the fabric of
- 32:44Speaker 1: American when you think about it, because church it's cultural
- 32:46Speaker 1: for us. It's not just something you know, some of
- 32:48Speaker 1: it's religious like it's it's been ingrained in a part
- 32:50Speaker 1: of our DNA. We went to church with Big Mom
- 32:52Speaker 1: and our grandmother and grandmother's years ago, and so it's
- 32:55Speaker 1: it's a part of our culture. And gospel music is
- 32:57Speaker 1: uh just part of the DNA. When you think about
- 32:59Speaker 1: music and so many genres of music were derived from
- 33:03Speaker 1: gospel music. So for us, that's a sweet spot. But
- 33:06Speaker 1: we try to make music that appeals to everyone. But
- 33:08Speaker 1: really the sweet spoty that thirty plus African American female.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Now that's also our audience that you know watches their money, okay, absolutely,
- 33:18Speaker 1: and so that means that they make conscious decisions and
- 33:21Speaker 1: and so how do you how knowing that there is
- 33:26Speaker 1: the goal to get younger because it's younger, usually they
- 33:28Speaker 1: spending there, they spending the thirty plus money and so
- 33:31Speaker 1: absolutely so, so that's an audience you want to reach.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Then you have those legends what you just mentioned, Kurt Franklin,
- 33:37Speaker 1: Marvin Staff, Dono mclark, who I've been knowing since since
- 33:40Speaker 1: two thousands and uh and been following prior to that.
- 33:43Speaker 1: When I said two thousand, I started playing their music
- 33:45Speaker 1: when Steve and I was on radio and uh in
- 33:48Speaker 1: Los Angeles on names two point three to be and
- 33:50Speaker 1: so that's when we started really you started seeing the evolution.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I think gospel started really exploding into the general market.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Of course, Curti has said that that that that that
- 33:59Speaker 1: that statement, and Dallas years before that, and like in
- 34:02Speaker 1: eighty four five and so so with they're saying, where
- 34:06Speaker 1: do you see gospel going and and the legends? Are
- 34:10Speaker 1: the legends still caring the music? Or you see these
- 34:12Speaker 1: young entrepreneurs, as these young artists starting to replace that
- 34:16Speaker 1: that that void because you got the next years of
- 34:19Speaker 1: plus thirty women that you want to reach. Absolutely, I
- 34:22Speaker 1: still see the legends holding their own. Like Kirk Franklin
- 34:24Speaker 1: has a new record we just released Friday Long I've
- 34:27Speaker 1: Loved So Kirk is still very much alive and well,
- 34:29Speaker 1: and Marvin Stapp. But as far as the younger artists
- 34:32Speaker 1: and our roster, I would say Karen Hawthorne, who's one
- 34:35Speaker 1: of my first signings when I came over to our
- 34:36Speaker 1: c a UM. She had the number the number one
- 34:39Speaker 1: song and gospel music. Last year, ever Sean a song
- 34:42Speaker 1: called Won't He Do It Uh? And translated beyond the
- 34:45Speaker 1: gospel charts, We're Gonna led over to the urban charts.
- 34:47Speaker 1: She performed on Soul Trained, she won an Image Award,
- 34:50Speaker 1: She's Grahamy nominated, She's on tour with Kirk this summer.
- 34:53Speaker 1: She's performing in Essence. The list goes on and she's
- 34:55Speaker 1: only twenty one. I could um found her from the voice,
- 34:59Speaker 1: but more I'm looking for more artists like Karem, like
- 35:02Speaker 1: Travis Green, uh Jonathan mcgrenlands who's not on my roster,
- 35:05Speaker 1: but we worked together the previous company. But there's a
- 35:08Speaker 1: great search Consha Cobs Leonard, such a surge of like
- 35:10Speaker 1: new artists that are really uh re kind of redefining
- 35:14Speaker 1: the sound of gospel, but still keeping the integrity in
- 35:18Speaker 1: the same breath. So it's it's a it's a few
- 35:20Speaker 1: new new Jackson I think are really gonna make everyone
- 35:23Speaker 1: proud and continue to you know, it's gonna take some
- 35:25Speaker 1: time for them to get to the Kirk or the
- 35:27Speaker 1: Yolanda status and things, but again they're well on their way.
- 35:29Speaker 1: But I really really am excited about the future of
- 35:31Speaker 1: the genre. So you know what I'm talking about, all right,
- 35:34Speaker 1: you gotta go there because of the fact that once
- 35:36Speaker 1: you control that narrative, then you then you build your
- 35:39Speaker 1: audience properly. The problem I have with terrestrial radio they
- 35:43Speaker 1: will not allow gospel to build the audience. Then they segmented,
- 35:46Speaker 1: like people don't want to hit gospel on certain days
- 35:50Speaker 1: and on Sunday, Sunday afternoon, Sunday morning, and so it's
- 35:54Speaker 1: a mix and it confuses people on how you should
- 35:57Speaker 1: approach gospel and the play people don't want to hear
- 36:01Speaker 1: on morning shows. People want to hear in the afternoon drive.
- 36:03Speaker 1: And then it only allows yourself to be the legends
- 36:06Speaker 1: to get played, and so it means that it often
- 36:09Speaker 1: hurts the legends too because guess what, they're old catalogs
- 36:12Speaker 1: don't get played, and so it limits their overall exposure
- 36:16Speaker 1: to the new audiences that need to be here in
- 36:18Speaker 1: the the millennials who need to hear Kirt four music.
- 36:23Speaker 1: You know, you know, Kirt, I want to ask you
- 36:26Speaker 1: a question as a person, you know you and Steve
- 36:28Speaker 1: to me where you know, trailblazers and really embraced gospel
- 36:32Speaker 1: on a national platform even before then. When I think
- 36:34Speaker 1: back to the beat days in l A. What made
- 36:37Speaker 1: you say I will embrace this music on our morning
- 36:39Speaker 1: show prime you know, prime platform. Like what was the
- 36:42Speaker 1: thing about gospel at that time, whether the artists, was
- 36:45Speaker 1: just the timing. I'm just curious. Well, first of all,
- 36:48Speaker 1: Steve's a strong faith, you know that. So your your
- 36:50Speaker 1: leader has to believe in it, and your leader has
- 36:52Speaker 1: to fight for and Steve was willing to fight forward.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I remember when we introduced the idea because at the time,
- 37:00Speaker 1: you know, no gospel music was being played on the beat,
- 37:03Speaker 1: and so we introduced as our opening song. We just
- 37:06Speaker 1: said I opened his song, Well, let's let us play
- 37:08Speaker 1: our opened his song and so and then all of
- 37:10Speaker 1: a sudden, when we start hearing about the success, so
- 37:13Speaker 1: we fall down that blew up off our opening songs.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Marvin Sapp blew up, Kurt Flecking got even bigger. And
- 37:20Speaker 1: so we realized that the music we were playing in
- 37:23Speaker 1: this Los Angeles station, we was really impacting everybody nationwide.
- 37:27Speaker 1: And this was before streaming. So I would say to you,
- 37:30Speaker 1: is that that that because of the way music is
- 37:32Speaker 1: being carved out nowadays, that's not gonna happen. That's why
- 37:36Speaker 1: I know that you have to control your narrative. If
- 37:38Speaker 1: you get stuff on radio that's gravy. But I know
- 37:41Speaker 1: that the way the system is set up nowadays, with
- 37:43Speaker 1: with the Android phones being a dominant carrier for all
- 37:46Speaker 1: African Americans, more African Americans by Android phones than any
- 37:50Speaker 1: any type of phone out there, know that for a fact.
- 37:52Speaker 1: And so when you know that, when you know that,
- 37:54Speaker 1: if you start saying, hey, reach us through this channel Facebook,
- 37:58Speaker 1: get somebody like like your the Adams who's amazing, who
- 38:02Speaker 1: has the audience reach, she's hip, has a daughter in college,
- 38:05Speaker 1: so she knows the language, she knows the experiences. The
- 38:08Speaker 1: host of like a Facebook show that it would allow
- 38:10Speaker 1: you to have guests and have a red table type
- 38:12Speaker 1: show that's popular for for Jada Pinkett can be popular
- 38:17Speaker 1: for you guys. Through your line of Adams type. You
- 38:19Speaker 1: know that you gotta have somebody who has stories, who
- 38:22Speaker 1: has credibility and has engagement. I'm just letting you know
- 38:25Speaker 1: that you're a smart guy. I can talk to you
- 38:28Speaker 1: because you know television too. I can't talk to Hales
- 38:30Speaker 1: conversation with everybody because your television background allows me to
- 38:33Speaker 1: say turn some Just to make a pitch to you,
- 38:36Speaker 1: just saying that I just want you to just control
- 38:39Speaker 1: your brand because allowed radio to dictate it or tell
- 38:42Speaker 1: their story is not happening. That's the only disappointment. And
- 38:46Speaker 1: and not managing Steve and not being part of the
- 38:48Speaker 1: morning show was I didn't realize the impact of me
- 38:51Speaker 1: leaving radio would have on how music is being played
- 38:54Speaker 1: nationally because I had that big of effect on what
- 38:57Speaker 1: was being played on the national format and now that's
- 39:00Speaker 1: not the case anymore, and it really disappoints me. That's
- 39:03Speaker 1: why I'm an advocate of what you do. And I
- 39:05Speaker 1: would be and I was, I was sitting in the
- 39:07Speaker 1: meeting you asked me to sit in, I would, I
- 39:08Speaker 1: would push your brand field because guess what, we just
- 39:11Speaker 1: need to control your narrative. Absolutely, And I'll take you
- 39:15Speaker 1: up on that offer because I really loved the idea
- 39:18Speaker 1: of just some of the things you've already shared offline.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I really I'm gonna take you up on that because
- 39:22Speaker 1: this is this is because I need as many champions
- 39:24Speaker 1: on the front line to really get controlled the narrative
- 39:27Speaker 1: so that I I really I think in advance, I
- 39:30Speaker 1: really do. I appreciate and I thank you and uh
- 39:32Speaker 1: and I and I think that that when I talked
- 39:34Speaker 1: to you, you have to talk to people who who
- 39:37Speaker 1: get both sides of it. And so when I listened
- 39:39Speaker 1: to radio and I listened to how rappers creep this
- 39:42Speaker 1: way back into R and B music that was in
- 39:45Speaker 1: two thousands, that that that's what I fought to stop, was, well,
- 39:49Speaker 1: how how rapping? Suddenly now you hear now you hear
- 39:52Speaker 1: rappers creeping their way into R and B songs again? Oh,
- 39:55Speaker 1: well that's two thousands, Okay. Now we went back to
- 39:58Speaker 1: two thousand again in twin and eighteen, so in nineteen
- 40:00Speaker 1: years later, we're starting all over again. So what does
- 40:03Speaker 1: that leave gospel nowhere? Nowhere? So that means that don't
- 40:07Speaker 1: worry about that. It's a different era nowadays. We're in
- 40:10Speaker 1: an era where we can control our narra, to control
- 40:12Speaker 1: our product and put it out at a very cheap
- 40:15Speaker 1: production rate. And so but we gotta select and choose
- 40:18Speaker 1: the right people to speak the song, to speak to volume,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and gotta have the right minded people. And you wanted
- 40:24Speaker 1: the right minded people. My man, uh Sony is one
- 40:27Speaker 1: of the right minded people because of the fact that
- 40:29Speaker 1: y'all understand it and y'all live gospel. Y'all live gospel. Man. Yeah,
- 40:34Speaker 1: absolutely absolutely so so so with the television background, with
- 40:40Speaker 1: the with the radio, with the music. So how can
- 40:43Speaker 1: I help you? Like I said, I got a newsletter
- 40:45Speaker 1: that comes out uh monthly two thirty thousand fan club followers.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I love to just drop information in there and our
- 40:52Speaker 1: newsletter about your up comedy songs. Just just give me
- 40:55Speaker 1: the artwork and the clickable links and I'll started helping
- 40:57Speaker 1: you promote there and then you can come on my show.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Any artists you want on my show. This is mighty
- 41:02Speaker 1: making conversations. It is about promoting brands and getting the word.
- 41:05Speaker 1: I feel and I just know that you are on
- 41:08Speaker 1: the edge of something great. Uh. I just want to
- 41:11Speaker 1: push you there and let you know, look at it. Man,
- 41:15Speaker 1: content is king. You have a market that is available
- 41:19Speaker 1: in the mobile world. Just gotta be smarter about it
- 41:22Speaker 1: and realize that it's on you. It's gonna be on you,
- 41:24Speaker 1: my man, It's gonna be on you. Now. I appreciate that,
- 41:28Speaker 1: and I'm gonna take you up on that news butt
- 41:29Speaker 1: as well. I'll send you some today actually started with
- 41:33Speaker 1: what I'm youtuale Frank Kirk Franklin, how about that. Let's
- 41:35Speaker 1: start with Kurt. Yeah, I appreciate that support. But we're
- 41:38Speaker 1: sign is just because you as you know, at one
- 41:40Speaker 1: point to restaurant radio was driving, you know, and it
- 41:44Speaker 1: was such a pivotal but like you said, it's a
- 41:45Speaker 1: totally different landscape now, so we we had to be created,
- 41:49Speaker 1: so you know. So that's the key with having some
- 41:51Speaker 1: of our brand partnerships still building. I'm building in that area.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I'm building with our digital partners building with the TV
- 41:57Speaker 1: and film and the podcast that we're building out. But
- 42:00Speaker 1: it's gonna take you, like just taking control of the
- 42:02Speaker 1: narratives and finding those champions that understand, you know, both sides,
- 42:07Speaker 1: to understand gospel but understand the audience and faith um
- 42:10Speaker 1: and just kind of figure out how we can collaborate.
- 42:12Speaker 1: And unfortunately, I've been, you know, really blessed on this
- 42:15Speaker 1: journey to find people like you, to find people like
- 42:18Speaker 1: tomb over to you too, who you know? So like,
- 42:22Speaker 1: how do we work together and collaborate and and work
- 42:25Speaker 1: and create some amazing you know, Jason Campana a title
- 42:28Speaker 1: and different. We gotta talk, man, we gotta talk. I
- 42:32Speaker 1: gotta let you go on this one. I got Dr
- 42:34Speaker 1: Boby Coottwright Jr. Coming up next from Marja McDonald and
- 42:37Speaker 1: money making conversations. Don't touch that down. I saw this
- 42:42Speaker 1: news story where burglars were asked how they broke into
- 42:44Speaker 1: homes and the one thing every burglar did first was
- 42:47Speaker 1: knocked on the door and if no one answered, they
- 42:49Speaker 1: broke in. That's what sold me on my new Blink
- 42:52Speaker 1: x T two cameras. They detect motion, so if someone
- 42:55Speaker 1: gets near my cameras, agatting to learn on my Blink
- 42:58Speaker 1: smartphone app with a video clap. But even better is
- 43:01Speaker 1: the two way talk feature that lets me talk to
- 43:04Speaker 1: whoever is they're using my phone, from telling the delivery
- 43:07Speaker 1: guy where to leave the package to saying hi to
- 43:09Speaker 1: the kids at the door. With Blink cameras, it's like
- 43:12Speaker 1: I'm always home. Blink cameras or wire free set up
- 43:15Speaker 1: in minutes and run on two lithium batteries that last
- 43:17Speaker 1: up to two years, and Blink x T two cameras
- 43:20Speaker 1: start under a hundred bucks, no contracts, no subscriptions. Thanks
- 43:24Speaker 1: to Blink home security just got easier. Visit blink protect
- 43:27Speaker 1: dot Com, Slash Secure, blink Protect dot Com Slash Secure,
- 43:32Speaker 1: blink Protect dot Com Slash Secure. Blink cameras are available
- 43:36Speaker 1: on Amazon and best Buy. Blink is an Amazon company
- 43:40Speaker 1: and it works with Alexa. There's one of those days, y'all.
- 43:47Speaker 1: I got everything running through my mind as well as
- 43:51Speaker 1: this show, because that's what happens when you are as
- 43:53Speaker 1: they say, you multitac multitasking multiple multiple levels of income
- 43:58Speaker 1: that I'm always preaching, So when you're dealing with multiple
- 44:00Speaker 1: levels income, that means sometimes they all come into your
- 44:03Speaker 1: brain at the same time, and decisions have to be
- 44:06Speaker 1: made on the regular basis against one I'm wanting to
- 44:08Speaker 1: make a decision. My next test is also wanted to
- 44:11Speaker 1: make a decision. The person of the NATI annual African
- 44:16Speaker 1: Pride Gospel Superfest TV spectacular presented by the Cartwright Foundation,
- 44:21Speaker 1: is set for June twenty second and data O Hire
- 44:24Speaker 1: hosted by n double a CP Image Award winning actress
- 44:28Speaker 1: Wendy Rickl Robinson. This year starts starting celebration of gospel
- 44:32Speaker 1: music include performances from the biggest names in gospel. Please
- 44:35Speaker 1: work with the money making conversation The CEO, managing partner
- 44:39Speaker 1: and executive producer of African Pride Gospel super Fest TV,
- 44:43Speaker 1: Dr Bobby Cartwright Jr. Hey, what'son? How are you and
- 44:48Speaker 1: what what? What city are you calling me from? My friend? Well,
- 44:51Speaker 1: I'm calling you from Detroit this morning. I'm in Detroit.
- 44:54Speaker 1: You said this morning. That means that that's you just
- 44:57Speaker 1: there this morning. So where are you? Where you based?
- 45:01Speaker 1: Where are you based? Well, I'm based in the Cincinnati,
- 45:04Speaker 1: Ohio area, um suburb outside of Cincinnati called Liberty Township.
- 45:08Speaker 1: But I'm a native Ohio and have been in Ohio
- 45:10Speaker 1: practically all my life. But we were doing some rehearsals
- 45:14Speaker 1: for the show yesterday UM in Detroit, so I decided
- 45:17Speaker 1: to just stay up here and work today and tomorrow
- 45:20Speaker 1: and come back home Wednesday. So the talk to tell
- 45:23Speaker 1: us about the African Proad Gospel Superfest, Well, the African
- 45:27Speaker 1: Priade Gospel super fesses uh in this nineteenth year of production,
- 45:31Speaker 1: as well as this nineteenth consecutive year in domestic syndication,
- 45:36Speaker 1: which you know all about working you know in your
- 45:39Speaker 1: past with TV and radio. We UM got a vision
- 45:43Speaker 1: from the Lord in about a new TV show and
- 45:48Speaker 1: I started reading the credits and doing my homework. It
- 45:50Speaker 1: took me two years to pull off the first one,
- 45:53Speaker 1: which was at the turn of the century, in the
- 45:55Speaker 1: year two thousand. So we did a three day festival
- 45:58Speaker 1: in Louisville, Kentucky, and that was inaugural event UM, which
- 46:02Speaker 1: turned out out to be the catalyst for what we
- 46:05Speaker 1: what was now a nineteen year brand UM in Black
- 46:09Speaker 1: gospel music television. When used the word African pride, that
- 46:12Speaker 1: feels international as am I reading that wrong? Or it's
- 46:17Speaker 1: just a domestic African pride and uh, it's a hair
- 46:21Speaker 1: care Brandy. African Pride is the title sponsor in their
- 46:25Speaker 1: hair care brand with multiple lines of hair care UH
- 46:30Speaker 1: specifically targeted towards African American consumers. And you and I
- 46:34Speaker 1: probably wouldn't use African Pride that much, but females in
- 46:39Speaker 1: your listening audience and they would know all about African Pride. Um.
- 46:42Speaker 1: It's a you know, it's a it's a household word
- 46:45Speaker 1: within black hair care circles. We'll just tell us why
- 46:49Speaker 1: why African Pride, because it's just that's your demo market
- 46:51Speaker 1: that you said. You always said Rishan Risha, You and I, well,
- 46:54Speaker 1: that's not our that's not our hair care brand with
- 46:57Speaker 1: female demo that you want. That is while you associated
- 47:00Speaker 1: with that, that relationship and because you mentioned the sponsorships
- 47:04Speaker 1: you mentioned, I really enjoyed reading your bio because it
- 47:08Speaker 1: was it was like reading a business course because he
- 47:10Speaker 1: was talking about making your brand relatable, making your brand
- 47:14Speaker 1: acceptable to advertisers and things like that. That's that's really
- 47:17Speaker 1: important to you and building out this this model for
- 47:20Speaker 1: long term success. Correct, Well, that's true, and I may
- 47:24Speaker 1: get in troubles because I'm sure they have product lines
- 47:26Speaker 1: for for male and children as well. You know, it's
- 47:30Speaker 1: like you know, the old luster brands and and things
- 47:33Speaker 1: of that nature. I thinking product goes along that line
- 47:35Speaker 1: for black hair care. So if I misspoke, I do apologize.
- 47:40Speaker 1: But um, primarily the African primarily gospel music in general
- 47:45Speaker 1: targets towards a female demographic. And um, just females go
- 47:51Speaker 1: to church more than males. That's just the way it is.
- 47:53Speaker 1: And then after the African American church you'll find it
- 47:56Speaker 1: as well more female heavy and attendance saying um than
- 48:00Speaker 1: this is male attendance. But with that being said, the
- 48:02Speaker 1: African Pride hair care brand is targeting you know, females
- 48:08Speaker 1: eighteen and forty nine is the primary and secondary demographic
- 48:12Speaker 1: for their brand, and that lines up with with gospel music,
- 48:16Speaker 1: and it certainly lines up with the the African Pride
- 48:19Speaker 1: Gospel superfess. And we found our media age to be
- 48:22Speaker 1: right around forty years old and real heavy in regards
- 48:27Speaker 1: to female attendance and all of our events if you
- 48:30Speaker 1: just look at our crowd shots, just you know, women
- 48:32Speaker 1: love gospel of music and men do too, but we
- 48:35Speaker 1: find that the the audience is predominantly female when we
- 48:41Speaker 1: when we shoot, so that's probably the marriage that the
- 48:45Speaker 1: the ad agency for African Pride saw and then they
- 48:48Speaker 1: made you know, made the connection and of course now
- 48:50Speaker 1: we're partners in UH in marketing with African Pride. Okay, cool,
- 48:54Speaker 1: this is might to make conversations now, oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 1: So you talk about TV show, what is outside the
- 49:01Speaker 1: TV show? Are there are their booths? So there is
- 49:04Speaker 1: like this is a multi day event, it's a single
- 49:06Speaker 1: day event. What's going on it is that it is
- 49:08Speaker 1: definitely a festival. We start on Thurtsday. The Superfessed Weekend
- 49:12Speaker 1: starts on Thursday, and we have an event called Making
- 49:14Speaker 1: the Stage and that's a new talent platform for artists
- 49:17Speaker 1: to UM compete and then the winner of that UH
- 49:20Speaker 1: competition opens the show. That in a couple of days.
- 49:25Speaker 1: And then on Friday, we have the first Ladies, Pastors
- 49:28Speaker 1: and Community Leaders Reception. That's on Friday, UH that's to
- 49:32Speaker 1: benefit our scholarship fund UH in the name of my
- 49:35Speaker 1: late sister Gail F. Peoples, who was an educator for
- 49:37Speaker 1: forty years. That's Friday night. And then Saturday, UM is
- 49:41Speaker 1: the national TV taping for the African Pride Gospel Superfessed
- 49:45Speaker 1: with Donnie mcclark and Rantall and Dietricht had and Ti Tribbett,
- 49:50Speaker 1: UM Tina Campbell from Mary Mary. That's the national recording,
- 49:54Speaker 1: and we record our entire season in one night, so
- 49:57Speaker 1: we just the five hour marathon of some of the
- 49:59Speaker 1: big names in gospel, and then we're rolling out two
- 50:02Speaker 1: of those specials UM for the TV one broadcasting network,
- 50:07Speaker 1: and then the other three will be syndicated in domestic syndication.
- 50:10Speaker 1: So it's a uh, it's a big event, one of
- 50:15Speaker 1: the major television tapes in black gospel today, and we've
- 50:18Speaker 1: been fortunate enough to sustain it through the health of
- 50:22Speaker 1: corporate America. Uh. Some of our sponsors include A. Procter
- 50:25Speaker 1: and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson, um Walmart. Of course, All
- 50:30Speaker 1: State Insurance Company was our title sponsor for eight years
- 50:34Speaker 1: and now of course African Pride is our new title
- 50:37Speaker 1: sponsor for nineteen C P and G. Proctor and gammasance
- 50:41Speaker 1: that so he could knock on that door. You know,
- 50:49Speaker 1: they were our first major Uh. They came to the
- 50:51Speaker 1: table first. They did UM back in two thousand two
- 50:55Speaker 1: and supported us and they've been supporting this consistently down
- 50:57Speaker 1: through the years. And so we're certainly grateful for Proctor
- 51:00Speaker 1: and Gamble. And it's great because Proctor and Gamble has
- 51:03Speaker 1: a lot of significant African America's leaders and decision makers
- 51:06Speaker 1: which allowed you to understand this brand and who this
- 51:09Speaker 1: brand is in particularly who they're reaching. So it's really
- 51:12Speaker 1: important to have those relationships with people who not only
- 51:15Speaker 1: support you but understand the value because, like I said,
- 51:19Speaker 1: not all money is good money, but money to understand
- 51:21Speaker 1: your brand is gonna stick with you long term. Correct,
- 51:24Speaker 1: That's that's true. That's very very true. And they do
- 51:27Speaker 1: understand the diversity and and and the different ethnic groups.
- 51:32Speaker 1: And you can find Proctor and Gamble strategically placing their
- 51:35Speaker 1: efforts with the Hispanic community, with the African American community
- 51:39Speaker 1: and the general market community as well. They're very uh,
- 51:43Speaker 1: forward thinking brand managers that really know how to target
- 51:47Speaker 1: their audience and then go after their you know, their target.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Dr car Right, you said something interesting in your conversation.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Now I'm only here talking about the ninteenth Annual African Pride,
- 51:57Speaker 1: which is the sponsor Gospel super Fest TV. Then you
- 52:00Speaker 1: said in your conversation, you said, we're finished taping all
- 52:03Speaker 1: our shows, so are we talking about Then you said,
- 52:06Speaker 1: you have two specials. It's just like a TV series, Yes,
- 52:11Speaker 1: it is. UM. When we origularly started Rashan, it was
- 52:14Speaker 1: interesting because I, you know, I don't want to get
- 52:16Speaker 1: too spiritual on the show, but I thought, I gotta
- 52:19Speaker 1: you know, I know, I got a vision from God
- 52:21Speaker 1: to do this, but I didn't know how to produce it.
- 52:25Speaker 1: So I had to do two years of research in
- 52:27Speaker 1: order before me to do the first one. And so
- 52:30Speaker 1: in in that process UM, I was able to to
- 52:34Speaker 1: learn and glean from people like yourself and people that
- 52:38Speaker 1: were out in the industry and to be able to
- 52:40Speaker 1: pull pull pull this off. But uh, we started off
- 52:45Speaker 1: as a three day event, and I'd probably have to
- 52:49Speaker 1: see a burning bush before I do a three days.
- 52:51Speaker 1: But then we then we nailed it down to a
- 52:54Speaker 1: two days then and then by accident, we had all
- 52:58Speaker 1: of this b role um or footage that we couldn't
- 53:03Speaker 1: place because we didn't really know, you know, how to places.
- 53:06Speaker 1: So we ended up developing a half hour weekly and
- 53:10Speaker 1: we cut up the shows into half hour segments and
- 53:13Speaker 1: sold it as Gospel Supers Backstage Past. That particular brand
- 53:19Speaker 1: was one of the launch vehicles for the Bounce Network.
- 53:23Speaker 1: It was one of the launch vehicles for at Matthew
- 53:25Speaker 1: Johnson's Inspired Network. It aired for nine years on TBN,
- 53:29Speaker 1: which is the largest Christian network in the world. But
- 53:33Speaker 1: all of this happened by accident because we didn't know
- 53:35Speaker 1: what we were doing. We just had recorded all these
- 53:36Speaker 1: acts and we had all of this footage and we're like,
- 53:38Speaker 1: when we do with it? You know. So, so now
- 53:41Speaker 1: that we know what our deliberables are, we can shoot
- 53:45Speaker 1: you know, five forty minutes. You know, one hour special
- 53:48Speaker 1: in syndication is forty four minutes and thirty seconds, and
- 53:51Speaker 1: the rest of his commercials. So now we can shoot
- 53:54Speaker 1: five one hour specials in one night. But when we
- 53:57Speaker 1: first started, we were just doing the specials. We would
- 54:00Speaker 1: is doing a concert and letting the cameras roll throughout
- 54:03Speaker 1: the entire concert, not really thinking about the deliverables. Well,
- 54:07Speaker 1: after nine years, i mean nineteen years, excuse me, we're
- 54:11Speaker 1: you know, rethinking this is we're wait a minute, you know,
- 54:13Speaker 1: we don't want to overrecord, and we don't, and then
- 54:15Speaker 1: a record label is calling us, you know, we haven't
- 54:17Speaker 1: seen our act on TV or and so we record
- 54:21Speaker 1: now strategically for the deliverables, and so we don't have
- 54:24Speaker 1: to record three and four nights. We can just record
- 54:27Speaker 1: one night and pull off the entire season with one
- 54:31Speaker 1: one session with you. You you're allowing me to deliver
- 54:35Speaker 1: it on my podcast by Live radio show, by Serious
- 54:37Speaker 1: XTM show. That's why it's important. I'm talking to the

- 55:43Speaker 1: they broke in. That's what sold me on my new
