- 1:05All right, welcome and hello friend.
- 1:09I am so glad that you're here today to tune into my next
- 1:13Edition. For top leadership skills that I
- 1:18wanted to pass along, just things I love about being in
- 1:21highly attuned, emotionally intelligent leader, a high EQ
- 1:26leader. As I like to say and these are
- 1:29kind of me just riffing on some of the thoughts that I have
- 1:32about it. I would love to hear your
- 1:34thoughts about At it too. Because I think these are great
- 1:36discussion points. It's not just me as a one-way
- 1:39here. But to me, this is what I
- 1:41support these rise, our leaders. With as my clients, we all need
- 1:45support in these because if we're literally looking to grow,
- 1:48that means we're doing things. We've never done before, we're
- 1:51thinking about things in new ways, and we can't do that
- 1:55unless we've got the help from outside the box.
- 1:58So to speak, the how open the support outside our own neural
- 2:01network, our own brain because like I like to say, we're like
- 2:05fish in the fish bowl and we only see the water around us.
- 2:08We're swimming were swimming but if we are never aware that
- 2:12there's a life and existence outside of that Fishbowl than
- 2:15how the heck, are we ever going to get there, right?
- 2:17We literally need someone to scoop us up and help transport
- 2:21us. So to speak, I'm joking around.
- 2:24But you know what I mean? So let's go ahead and get
- 2:26started. One of my favorite tips as a
- 2:30highly emotional. One of my tips about highly and
- 2:36got to keep saying hi one of them.
- 2:38One of the things I love about being a high EQ leader, is that
- 2:43it's easy to stay inspired because literally think about
- 2:47anyone, you think about as a leader, who inspires you, give
- 2:51that a moment thought who comes up in your mind's eye, it could
- 2:56be someone not even Been alive anymore.
- 2:57Just someone you've meant to support or in feel inspired by
- 3:03on a daily basis or maybe it's once a year because you don't
- 3:07think about it often. But you do once a year in some
- 3:11way Right, whatever that is. Give yourself a moment to think
- 3:16and appreciate them. What are those qualities?
- 3:18That stand out for them, right? That can be inspiration in
- 3:21itself. Maybe you have a quote that they
- 3:25said, and it's on your wall or maybe you even wrote it down on
- 3:28a Post-It note, or you printed printed it out in some way.
- 3:32I'm curious. If it's something that you see
- 3:35that brings you Joy, that's also something inspiring.
- 3:38Maybe it's a photo, or maybe it's a pet, who brings you some
- 3:42Else, right? It's like about what works for
- 3:44you and give yourself credit for being with these leaders in that
- 3:49way, because they have inspired you.
- 3:51And it's LED you to where you are today.
- 3:54So, I just like to mention that because a lot of times we're
- 3:56just heads down focused on the next rung, in front of us on the
- 4:00ladder where the transom or wherever we're going, but we
- 4:04forget that. Oh yeah, like I got here.
- 4:06Like this is, this is not in itself, a good thing and I'm an
- 4:09inspiration. And remember you probably We
- 4:12more than you think. So are inspiring to others.
- 4:16The next thing to mention is that you can be a leader who
- 4:20leads from the feminine values side and this could be for any
- 4:24gender doesn't really matter if you're a woman or not, what it
- 4:27means to me is that you lead with these feminine values and
- 4:31would be considered attributes or traits.
- 4:33That are most often associated with the feminine versus the
- 4:36masculine space and that sense literally Bean, right.
- 4:40Your presence creating Being creative holding space for
- 4:45others. That's that presence.
- 4:47Maybe it's big picture thinking like you don't have all the
- 4:50linear thinking down that would be more masculine but it's
- 4:52really just this bigger Vision that you're holding.
- 4:55It might be the power of Silence might be your own care for
- 5:00someone else or empathy love collaboration.
- 5:04Communication to me, all of these are really strong,
- 5:09feminine values that I think are sir.
- 5:12Severely underrepresented in the workplace in the workforce.
- 5:16And so we need these attributes more in our ecosystem, right?
- 5:21These are things that can be brought into the business world
- 5:24because you're gifted in them already right?
- 5:27And left again everyone can have these.
- 5:30However, I think that as a female leader you are especially
- 5:35well positioned to bring these more into the space and even
- 5:37though maybe the workplace doesn't emphasize these as much
- 5:40as things like report. Numbers, for example, finite,
- 5:44deliverables project linear, thinking constructive and
- 5:50building the plan out in the project, right?
- 5:52These are the things that I think of, as more very tangible,
- 5:54but productive and linear more of what we're used to in the
- 6:00business world. But guess what?
- 6:01We need both. We really, really do and we are
- 6:04hearing and hearing this more and more because there's things
- 6:08like that burnout that's happening at a faster, more
- 6:10rapid Pace people. All are talking about wanting
- 6:13better culture at work. These are all the things that
- 6:15the feminine values can really step up and help us lead in.
- 6:20So they so we so they need you, we need you and The Time Is Now
- 6:26to help bring those into the world, okay?
- 6:31My third reason why it's so awesome to be a high EQ leader
- 6:37is that it's really requires to always be learning a BL all To
- 6:42be learning, right? Like always be closing or what
- 6:44was that from? Yeah, from the movie, Glengarry,
- 6:48Glen Ross, am I saying that right?
- 6:50Anyway, always, be learning following your curiosity and
- 6:54doing something that you would enjoy, right?
- 6:56Maybe you're taking a class, it may have nothing to do with the
- 7:00Work World. It might be more of a hobby or
- 7:02passion project. To me, that's a pause, right?
- 7:05Reading a book, perfect watching a TED, Talk.
- 7:08Stimulating your brain in new ways so that you feel inspired.
- 7:12Right. Getting back to inspiring note
- 7:14and that it can be infectious. It's like something that you get
- 7:17excited about and share with someone else.
- 7:20So, whatever it is for, you find out what that might be and it's
- 7:25really about what gets you excited.
- 7:27So what I mean, what would you like to learn?
- 7:29Maybe that's the way to start with that question.
- 7:31And then, just do that instead, that's all that.
- 7:33All, that's all it takes. And on a similar vein, I would
- 7:37say, another reason that I love being a high EQ leader is to be
- 7:44enthusiastic about ideas, is really, really awesome.
- 7:48So so generate that enthusiasm give yourself permission to get
- 7:53excited. And to me, this means really
- 7:55just allowing your own Vitality. Your own aliveness to course
- 8:00through your veins and do what you came here to do, right?
- 8:04So what does that The for you that you feel excited about and
- 8:07enthusiastic about maybe your present to it or maybe you bring
- 8:11others along with you, you teach them what it is, because your
- 8:15emotion is contagious and infectious, so that's the
- 8:18emotional contagion, right? If you find it, exciting people
- 8:21can read and pick up on that all the time, right?
- 8:23In itself. That's inspiring and you're
- 8:26motivating, others. You're not only motivating
- 8:28yourself but others, see that and you that's your, that's your
- 8:31inner light that's shining through and then they want to do
- 8:34something that's that exciting for themselves.
- 8:36Maybe it's a little different but they would be like, wow.
- 8:38Maybe I'm going to take up this thing that I thought about a
- 8:41while ago and really haven't done much with it.
- 8:43I think a lot of times as we get older and we mature and we just
- 8:46kind of get on with ourselves and our lives.
- 8:49We forget that this is part of the fun of learning and be
- 8:54enthusiastic means we're playful.
- 8:56We actually relax more. It kind of tells our whole
- 8:59bodies nervous system that we're good.
- 9:02Like we don't need to be Zone scanning for threats as much.
- 9:05And then there's just more joy there, right?
- 9:09And that's just allowing yourself to do that.
- 9:11A lot of times we're conditioned out of that sometimes we're
- 9:14taught to not make a big deal out of it or just keep going,
- 9:17you're fine. But the reality is like that
- 9:20dumb that I was going to say numbs us out.
- 9:22It dumbs us down to though, that's that's what came out.
- 9:26So remember your enthusiasm counts and it's part of your
- 9:30vitality and you and it helps to create that wave of
- 9:34infectiousness. That can be so, so exciting.
- 9:37And that's what high EQ leaders do, is they bring others along
- 9:39with them, right? And so that's that's the idea
- 9:42here. Okay, and then, the last one I
- 9:44want to share in my set for today is to lead by example,
- 9:50okay. What that what I mean by that is
- 9:52you are not authentic leader, how uq L are true to who they
- 9:57are, they don't make stuff up. That feels out of alignment or
- 10:01say things because they think they should say it, they're
- 10:04literally leading. By their own example because it
- 10:07feels true and authentic and a lined with them.
- 10:10Right. So that means if you don't want
- 10:12to work on a Sunday, you don't work on a Sunday and you let
- 10:16other people know that. That's not okay for you, right?
- 10:18If you want to take a day off, then you take the day off,
- 10:21right? You know, you need it.
- 10:23So that means you don't check your email that day or you tell
- 10:26people, you'll be offline, you help set expectations.
- 10:29That's part of where this sometimes falls apart for people
- 10:31if you're not a high EQ leader because there's no expectations
- 10:34or Unifications that's really clear.
- 10:37But the key here is doing exactly that.
- 10:40Be clear, said, expectations and then go for what you want and I
- 10:45think that that can really lead you to a place in space, that
- 10:48feels supportive and Incredibly nurturing and nourishing for
- 10:53yourself as a high EQ leader. And next thing, you know, my
- 10:57guess is, you're going to feel way better be happier and be
- 11:01more successful and productive as a result.
