- 0:00I'd like to read you a verse today that maybe some people don't think is all that encouraging,
- 0:04but I'd like to point out to you how it's quite encouraging if you're in the right place.
- 0:08Here it is, Luke 16, 14.
- 0:10It says, Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things,
- 0:15and they were scoffing at him.
- 0:18Three key points in here.
- 0:19First of all, this was the Pharisees.
- 0:20We need to remember that these were some of the most devout religious men of Jesus' day.
- 0:25Nicodemus and others like him were desired preachers and teachers and speakers all over
- 0:30the place, and they were well known, and they fast two days a week, and they worshiped all
- 0:35the time, and they memorized whole books of the Bible.
- 0:37I mean, whole books of the Bible, not the names, but the actual book, every word.
- 0:43The Pharisees had become lovers of money.
- 0:45Now that's a really dangerous place to be, but if you're not there, then this is encouraging
- 0:50in that way.
- 0:52They're listening to all of the things that Jesus was saying, and they were scoffing at
- 0:55him.
- 0:56See, it tends to be that when people pick a different God in their life, they tend to
- 1:01scoff at Jesus.
- 1:02Jesus is a servant.
- 1:03He's a giver.
- 1:05He is love.
- 1:06He chose to die.
- 1:07And who would do that?
- 1:09He chose to die to pay the price for sins.
- 1:11And if you're rich, you know, you've got a lot to live for.
- 1:14You're not going to die for anybody.
- 1:15You might pay somebody to die for somebody, but that's not who Jesus is.
- 1:20Jesus was the richest of them all.
- 1:22He was God in the flesh, having come from heaven, taken up residence on the earth, first
- 1:26as a babe, then as a man, then sacrificed himself on the cross, then rose again on the
- 1:30third day after being put in a borrowed tomb.
- 1:34That's the kind of model that Jesus has for us.
- 1:36So whether you've got money or you don't got money, what you don't want to be is a lover
- 1:40of money.
- 1:41What you do want to be is a lover of Jesus.
- 1:44Don't scoff at these teachings.
- 1:46Everyone has a plan.
