- 4:13Speaker 1: my slot. That's my slot. It's it's it's miss Ram.
- 4:16Speaker 1: We know, we know what you got, what you got.
- 4:19Speaker 1: So when I talked about thirty or seven years man,
- 4:22Speaker 1: a career success and and talking about I will first
- 4:26Speaker 1: of all to talk about Darren Devil, you know, with
- 4:29Speaker 1: for some reason, you know, contract with a Netflix societe. Hey,
- 4:32Speaker 1: this is y'all start on your own streaming service. We're
- 4:35Speaker 1: not gonna renew Daredevil. But in the early seasons, you
- 4:38Speaker 1: were playing a reporter, a tenacious reporter. Wouldn't give up reporter.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And I went, he ain't onna last. He brothers got
- 4:49Speaker 1: to go. You know your character, your brother who when
- 4:55Speaker 1: you spread that scrip, you go, I'm gonna die. I'm
- 4:57Speaker 1: gonna die. I don't know when they're gonna kill me,
- 4:59Speaker 1: but I'm gonna die. I'm gonna you just you just do.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And there then, man, you just would not you up.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And when I signed when I signed on, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 1: it was already Netflix that already bought it for five,
- 5:13Speaker 1: like five seasons more or five seasons, and they said, okay,
- 5:16Speaker 1: you know we want you for the first season and
- 5:19Speaker 1: you're gonna die. So I knew up front. I knew
- 5:23Speaker 1: abrupt planned planning, you know, plan accordingly, brother, job right
- 5:29Speaker 1: right right, take this job and start shopping that everybody
- 5:34Speaker 1: you know netics, I'm working the hard working okay, just
- 5:38Speaker 1: let y'all know, and available after this death scene. I'm
- 5:41Speaker 1: not available. I'm available and after the sea with y'all,
- 5:45Speaker 1: So hit me up. And when I look when I
- 5:48Speaker 1: look at the resume, man, and and all these different roles.
- 5:53Speaker 1: You know, there's some comedy thrown in there, there's drama,
- 5:56Speaker 1: there's a there's there's films. How do you prepare? I
- 6:00Speaker 1: was talking a good friend like yesterday, So I mean,
- 6:02Speaker 1: say Clifton Pile and you know, you know, keep the
- 6:05Speaker 1: pile and you know he's another one these guys. Just
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, you squitch your eyes and you go. Because
- 6:11Speaker 1: we was on this was I was doing a commercial
- 6:12Speaker 1: shoot and then he came up. Was talking and then
- 6:15Speaker 1: somebody said, that guy looks familion. Just keep staring at him,
- 6:21Speaker 1: Just keep staring. You're gonna figure it out. I mean,
- 6:24Speaker 1: it's safe thing with you. I'm should you get that?
- 6:26Speaker 1: A lot people go, he looks for million, because I
- 6:30Speaker 1: know you will. Will we in the penetration together. You
- 6:37Speaker 1: don't work here, we here, we go to high school together,
- 6:42Speaker 1: right right. I just got just got one away. We
- 6:45Speaker 1: were in the meetings together, right, I just got down
- 6:48Speaker 1: like two days ago. It's always you know, I mean,
- 6:52Speaker 1: it's all good though, bro, Just you know they figure
- 6:55Speaker 1: out in a minute. I say, that's really good because
- 6:59Speaker 1: because you're I've been pigeonholed for a certain character. You
- 7:02Speaker 1: know that you you know you play a gang store,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you play a mean how, you play an abusive father,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you play a drug dealer. You've done it all, my man. Yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 1: what do you mentally prepare for that? Well? I I
- 7:16Speaker 1: think with with each with each role, I really try to,
- 7:21Speaker 1: um find the the core of each one of those characters.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I never I never approached a bad guy or a
- 7:30Speaker 1: good guy or a hero from the perspective of having
- 7:34Speaker 1: judgment about them, because you know, yeah, the person who
- 7:41Speaker 1: is is the bad guy. From their perspective, it is
- 7:44Speaker 1: not bad. It's not a bad guy, you know. They're
- 7:47Speaker 1: just everything they do is they feel as justified, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 1: by some code or by you know, by their own
- 7:56Speaker 1: belief systems. And so I try to I try to
- 7:59Speaker 1: find that leaf system for that character and and bring
- 8:04Speaker 1: it without judgment, um you know. So that's that's that's
- 8:09Speaker 1: the basically I prepared, you know. And then there's the
- 8:12Speaker 1: you know, the duanswers, what you know, what is the
- 8:15Speaker 1: character sound like, what is the body language or what
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know? And other things like that. And this is
- 8:21Speaker 1: talking to young actors and young people who who look
- 8:23Speaker 1: at stories to know that when you see a guy
- 8:26Speaker 1: like Mr Hall talking to you about his career, how
- 8:30Speaker 1: he's consistent with the role. He has to do homework.
- 8:33Speaker 1: He has to know when he's sitting up there that
- 8:37Speaker 1: if he's been if he's been appointed during the Clinton administration,
- 8:41Speaker 1: he has seen a lot that he is not liked
- 8:44Speaker 1: over the years. And so when you make that big
- 8:47Speaker 1: speech moment, it's kind of like an eruption. Finally, I
- 8:51Speaker 1: just gotta see what I gotta say. And that's really
- 8:54Speaker 1: powerful for your character development. Correct, absolutely, absolutely, because you
- 9:00Speaker 1: sit there and you say, I've I've sat here and
- 9:02Speaker 1: watched hundreds, if not thousands of young men and women
- 9:08Speaker 1: come before me and and seeing their lives be shattered,
- 9:18Speaker 1: families broken up, you know, uh, because of some laws
- 9:26Speaker 1: that are just that I cannot change. I'm merely the
- 9:31Speaker 1: person who has to facilitator. That's all facilitate those Okay,
- 9:38Speaker 1: he strikes you out, you know, and so um, those
- 9:45Speaker 1: are the things that we look at and and it's
- 9:48Speaker 1: important that that bring about awareness so that we can
- 9:55Speaker 1: reach out to our representatives and have been change these
- 9:59Speaker 1: un just lost so that we can move forward, so
- 10:05Speaker 1: that we can try on somehow to level this incredibly
- 10:11Speaker 1: disproportionate plane. On the phone, gu is a fondae Curtis Hall.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He's starring and judge on the new Show for the People. Uh,
- 10:20Speaker 1: Judge Nicholas. It's a Shonda Land Ryan Shonda Land production. Uh.
- 10:24Speaker 1: The show as Aaron on ABC UM every Thursday timpm
- 10:29Speaker 1: Eastern and West Coast tim pm and nine pm Central.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Before you go, I wanted to talk about this a
- 10:35Speaker 1: film that you're appearing in this coming up. I think
- 10:37Speaker 1: it may. It's called Harriet the Bio pick On Frame Abolitionists,
- 10:41Speaker 1: Harriet Tubman Story. Uh, how was that that? That? How
- 10:45Speaker 1: did you get into that movie? And? Uh? What would
- 10:48Speaker 1: you what was your projection? So you go from a
- 10:50Speaker 1: judge now you know, now you're running for your life.
- 10:54Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. This guy he just don't.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Oh man. The first time I really imagine we sat down, well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I think he's biou. That's when it really really came
- 11:07Speaker 1: to mind that it was now to see that whole
- 11:11Speaker 1: years and because uh, because I met you probably like
- 11:14Speaker 1: a ninety three or something like that, and nobody we've
- 11:17Speaker 1: made periodical of different shows and every time I see you,
- 11:20Speaker 1: That's why I love my show. I get to really
- 11:22Speaker 1: talk from a different perspective. With individuals like you who
- 11:25Speaker 1: I've admired, but also allow you to tell your story.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So give us a little bit about Harriet before we
- 11:30Speaker 1: get out of here, because I definitely want people know
- 11:31Speaker 1: this show is coming out, and also you're playing a
- 11:33Speaker 1: major actor role in it. Yeah, Harriet is the story
- 11:38Speaker 1: of Harriet, Harriet Tubman, and it is not a traditional
- 11:41Speaker 1: biopick in that sense. It's really Harriet as a superhero. Really,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I mean, it's really a story about freedom and I
- 11:50Speaker 1: and in this movie. Uh, it's gonna be released. Uh
- 11:55Speaker 1: it may not come out. I may not. I think
- 11:56Speaker 1: it's gonna come out, Uh come out probably in stept October.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It's going to come out of the Fall for for
- 12:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna bring you back. I'm bringing you back. Okay,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I'll bring you back. We'll talk again, Okay. Yeah. And
- 12:11Speaker 1: so I'm playing I played Reverend h Samuel Green, who
- 12:15Speaker 1: was a big person in the Underground Railroad. I housed
- 12:19Speaker 1: and facilitated Harriet to to run and then I would
- 12:24Speaker 1: uh hide people in my church. And he's an historic
- 12:29Speaker 1: character who ultimately ended up being arrested. They couldn't catch him,
- 12:35Speaker 1: um for for harboring fugitives as they call them or
- 12:40Speaker 1: freedom seekers, and they finally locked them up for five
- 12:44Speaker 1: years for owning a copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin, which
- 12:48Speaker 1: they found to be subversive because it was not didn't
- 12:52Speaker 1: speak highly of slavery. Watch him every Thursday, ABC, Every

- 15:23Speaker 1: while I was at work and a friend recommended Blink.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I was skeptical, but decided to give it a shot,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and I bought a Blink camera system. With our last
- 15:31Speaker 1: security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we
- 15:35Speaker 1: couldn't get out of my bad But our Blink system

- 16:25Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald and you're listening to money making conversation. UM,
- 16:28Speaker 1: thank you for listening, Thank you for watching. Thank you
- 16:31Speaker 1: for allowing me to build this platform to provide you
- 16:34Speaker 1: with information that I feel it's necessary to succeed in business,
- 16:39Speaker 1: to succeed in life. Uh lanes and motivation. A lot
- 16:43Speaker 1: of people just don't get it. They just don't. They
- 16:45Speaker 1: believe they are dreamers. They see other people's success and
- 16:49Speaker 1: they'll understand the path of the road to get there.
- 16:52Speaker 1: They just see the final verse, They feel the final leg,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and there's a journey. I have a journey, all right.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I tend to give a little some pieces of my
- 17:00Speaker 1: journey along the way. And then if they ever show
- 17:03Speaker 1: my staff, I wass going. I didn't know that. I
- 17:05Speaker 1: didn't know that because there's so many layers of something.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Some stories I forget sometimes some some stories I bring up.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I just remember when I brought it up, because when
- 17:15Speaker 1: you're when you're trying to be successful, you just tend
- 17:18Speaker 1: to grind. You just tend to just want to accomplish
- 17:21Speaker 1: your task. You just want to make it happen. And
- 17:23Speaker 1: when you want to make it happen, there's a general Tennessee,
- 17:26Speaker 1: when you succeed, you're quickly going to the next task.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And that's what successful people do. That's why sometimes you
- 17:32Speaker 1: need people around you that that log down that information,
- 17:36Speaker 1: that that that documents your success and document your story.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And today's social media documents your story. The internet document
- 17:43Speaker 1: your story. In the past, I I see more and
- 17:46Speaker 1: more my history being brought online. People are constantly telling
- 17:51Speaker 1: me I told me about jokes. I I can't believe
- 17:53Speaker 1: that they are online now somebody with referencing a Denny's
- 17:57Speaker 1: joke I did many years ago. I didn't even know
- 18:00Speaker 1: that was online. Is online and people people tell me
- 18:02Speaker 1: about it. And I did that many years ago at
- 18:04Speaker 1: the punch line at Sandy Springs and Atlanta, Georgia. But again,
- 18:08Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation is a show that I brought to
- 18:11Speaker 1: bring guests on, like the guests I'm about to introduce
- 18:13Speaker 1: to you right now. Um, She's special. My next guest
- 18:17Speaker 1: is an American content producer, photographer, author, activists, and creator
- 18:22Speaker 1: of Because of Them, We Can. Because of Them, We Can,

- 18:29Speaker 1: million people per month with custom and curated content that
- 18:34Speaker 1: extracts and amplifies the good on a daily basis in
- 18:37Speaker 1: the African American community. Please walking to money making Conversations.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Unique Jones, Hi, Hi, where are you calling from? Where
- 18:50Speaker 1: are you calling from? I'm right outside of DC in Maryland. Okay,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you wide away? You wide away? Which is good? Is
- 18:59Speaker 1: that your base are your or your East Coast person?
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm an East Coast person. Yes, I'm based there, born
- 19:04Speaker 1: and raised. Left for a little while, came back. Okay, cool.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Tell me about that. I read a little bit out,
- 19:10Speaker 1: you know, do all my little research, and it was
- 19:11Speaker 1: just talking about the UH. It was started because of
- 19:15Speaker 1: them We Can. We started UH in February is a
- 19:18Speaker 1: twenty eight day photo campaign for children a period as
- 19:22Speaker 1: iconic Black history figures of the past and present. It
- 19:25Speaker 1: was inspired by your songs Chase and Amari to teach
- 19:29Speaker 1: and refresh Black history while connecting the dots between the past, present,
- 19:33Speaker 1: and future. That's how I started. Huh it is I
- 19:36Speaker 1: was inspired by my sons um and UH really just
- 19:40Speaker 1: the need to refute some of the stereotypes and narratives
- 19:43Speaker 1: that we were inundated with during that time. That was
- 19:46Speaker 1: the one year anniversary of Traymon Martin's murder. We were
- 19:49Speaker 1: approaching Black History Month, and I just thought, Wow, what
- 19:52Speaker 1: can we do to inject some positivity into the universe
- 19:55Speaker 1: and also uplift black folks at the same time. Now,
- 19:59Speaker 1: when you say a, oh, those shot, what was it
- 20:01Speaker 1: something local were you? Were you doing it for a
- 20:04Speaker 1: website or we're doing it for a magazine? What was what?
- 20:07Speaker 1: What was the reason behind that the campaign that you
- 20:10Speaker 1: created with the twenty eight Days? Yeah, I wasn't commissioned
- 20:14Speaker 1: or charged, um by anyone else to do it. It's
- 20:17Speaker 1: something that I wanted to do on my own. I
- 20:19Speaker 1: had been what you would call a weekend warrior and photography.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I was, uh, built up a client and built up
- 20:26Speaker 1: a clientele. On the weekends, I had a nine to
- 20:28Speaker 1: five working and advertising, and on the weekends I had
- 20:30Speaker 1: fun um photographing people and so UM I saw it
- 20:34Speaker 1: as an opportunity to extend my passion for social justice
- 20:38Speaker 1: and art into a campaign. And so with something I
- 20:40Speaker 1: did on my own. You know, with Facebook, you have
- 20:43Speaker 1: a platform. If you have a page, right, if you
- 20:46Speaker 1: have the Internet and you have a domain name, you
- 20:48Speaker 1: have a home online. And so I saw it as
- 20:51Speaker 1: an opportunity to really do something from proactive perspective, to
- 20:55Speaker 1: to create what I wanted to see. And so it
- 20:58Speaker 1: wasn't for a magazine or anyone else was or me
- 21:00Speaker 1: and I was sharing. It was the world. So it
- 21:02Speaker 1: was days Black History of Mondon, February. So what was
- 21:06Speaker 1: the reaction to the campaign once it went online? I'm
- 21:08Speaker 1: assuming you posted this on Facebook? Yeah? I posted on
- 21:12Speaker 1: Facebook one story each day, and uh, with each day
- 21:15Speaker 1: people really started to pay attention to understand that it
- 21:17Speaker 1: was a part of a larger campaign, and they started
- 21:20Speaker 1: to anticipate the images and to if I was late.
- 21:23Speaker 1: If it wasn't at nine thirteen and it was instead
- 21:26Speaker 1: at nine thirty, people started to stay, where's the image
- 21:28Speaker 1: for today? They were so um taken aback and by
- 21:33Speaker 1: seeing these young kids portraying these icons that we have
- 21:37Speaker 1: grown to know and to love. And so it went viral.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean thousands of people shared it and they started
- 21:44Speaker 1: to not only ask for more images, but they started
- 21:46Speaker 1: to ask for products. UM that um embody the photos right, UM.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So it was it was it was super successful. Now
- 21:54Speaker 1: you entrepreneur, what you just did this from a It
- 21:57Speaker 1: was a passion project. When did you entrepreneur? Will side
- 22:00Speaker 1: popping in in this campaign in February? UM, it started people.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I didn't create it thinking I was going to monetize it.
- 22:10Speaker 1: That's never the goal. The goal was always just to
- 22:12Speaker 1: create something that I wanted to see. And the people
- 22:15Speaker 1: demanded that the UM the e commerce come into play.
- 22:19Speaker 1: They asked, well, this picture is great, I would love
- 22:23Speaker 1: a poster, and so I said, well, I can figure
- 22:26Speaker 1: it out. So I started selling posters. And then people
- 22:30Speaker 1: started to say, well, these posters are great, but I
- 22:32Speaker 1: can't put all these posters up in my home. I
- 22:33Speaker 1: would love a calendar, UM. And so I figured it
- 22:36Speaker 1: I would started selling calendars. This is all in February.
- 22:39Speaker 1: We started taking pre orders UM. And then quickly enough
- 22:42Speaker 1: people start saying, you know what, posters are great, calendars
- 22:45Speaker 1: are great. I think I would love to have this
- 22:47Speaker 1: with a coffee table book. UM. And so it was
- 22:51Speaker 1: it was a matter of just going with the flow.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And trying to keep leveling up as people demanded more
- 22:56Speaker 1: and more, and doing research and and reaching out to
- 22:59Speaker 1: people who had success in this type of space to
- 23:01Speaker 1: figure out, um, how to navigate the waters. And so
- 23:05Speaker 1: February two thousan thirteen forces in the end was when
- 23:07Speaker 1: the the entrepreneurship really started to come into play UM
- 23:12Speaker 1: and it's still in the play right because you you
- 23:14Speaker 1: learn as the people demand more, and you continue to
- 23:16Speaker 1: identify needs and ways to us service them. When I
- 23:20Speaker 1: will go to your website, I learned so much and
- 23:23Speaker 1: became so engaged. How do you How do you create
- 23:27Speaker 1: your stories? How do you create your stories? That makes
- 23:30Speaker 1: a person like me interested, as well as a person
- 23:32Speaker 1: and their teams interested, as well as a millennial interested. Well,
- 23:37Speaker 1: we all want to see ourselves. We want to see
- 23:39Speaker 1: ourselves reflected. And there's a certain disconnect or distance between
- 23:43Speaker 1: you and a celebrity um as you know, it's just
- 23:45Speaker 1: as a from everyday person. But you can go on
- 23:49Speaker 1: that site and see somebody that reminds you of your aunt,
- 23:51Speaker 1: your uncle, your niche, you and nephew. You can see
- 23:53Speaker 1: a story about a young child who's got a scholarship.
- 23:57Speaker 1: You can see a story about a five are in
- 24:00Speaker 1: the sun UM and and their bond over a viral video.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And so the site is all about being relatable. It's
- 24:07Speaker 1: all about making sure that somebody can go on that
- 24:10Speaker 1: site and find a mirror or someone else who looks
- 24:13Speaker 1: like them or reminds them of someone in their home.
- 24:16Speaker 1: And so we get UM people send us stories all
- 24:19Speaker 1: the time. They email us at UM hello at because
- 24:21Speaker 1: when we can dot com they submit and say, my
- 24:24Speaker 1: mom made history. She's the first black woman to do X,
- 24:27Speaker 1: Y and Z in this county. UM. That's the story,
- 24:30Speaker 1: regardless of as a big county or not, that we're
- 24:32Speaker 1: gonna put We're gonna publish it, We're gonna write about it. UM.
- 24:35Speaker 1: There are stories that we see on the internet. UM.
- 24:38Speaker 1: There was a story that went up the other day
- 24:40Speaker 1: about the only black owned movie theater in Baltimore, right
- 24:43Speaker 1: outside of Baltimore, and that just came from being on
- 24:46Speaker 1: Facebook and it showed up then my actual news feed,
- 24:49Speaker 1: and I said, well, this is something that everybody should
- 24:51Speaker 1: be talking about. And that story alone drove about a
- 24:54Speaker 1: hundred thousand visitors to the site in two days. And
- 24:56Speaker 1: so UM we're constantly looking for story reason like that
- 25:00Speaker 1: we we we posted obvious, but we feel like there
- 25:02Speaker 1: are so many other stories that we hear and we
- 25:05Speaker 1: and we know about in our everyday lives. Always ask
- 25:09Speaker 1: the people to send them size um and we're always

- 27:34Speaker 1: and I bought a Blink camera system. With our last
- 27:36Speaker 1: security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we

- 29:33Speaker 1: networks like TBS, WHO Network, TV One, Fine Living, b
- 29:41Speaker 1: t J Cooking Channel, and Disney just to name a
- 29:44Speaker 1: few please work with the money making Conversation. The Dynamic
- 29:47Speaker 1: producing duo Sonya Armstead and Rochelle Brown. Hello. Hi. First
- 29:58Speaker 1: of all, you're in the same city, are are you
- 30:01Speaker 1: different locations? Were the same city? And as you mentioned earlier,
- 30:09Speaker 1: we are. We are grinding and heading to our next production. Okay, production,
- 30:13Speaker 1: can you use it? Is? It is? Can we talk
- 30:15Speaker 1: about your next the production you're going to? Well? Sure, King,
- 30:20Speaker 1: We are um, super super excited. This is Rochelle Brown speaking.
- 30:24Speaker 1: We have been selected by Cleo TV, which is a
- 30:28Speaker 1: new millennial network for African American women serving a very
- 30:32Speaker 1: undeserved audience for content on lifestyle programming, and we are
- 30:38Speaker 1: the official production arm launching the network with four new
- 30:43Speaker 1: original lifestyle shows. So we have one show called Jeff
- 30:48Speaker 1: Eat Once Jeff j J who was one of the
- 30:50Speaker 1: hottest young up and coming down the earth. Miss Brown
- 30:56Speaker 1: just had him on the show, just had him on
- 30:58Speaker 1: the show, went to his restaurant in New York two
- 31:01Speaker 1: weeks ago. Love it. I just want to let you
- 31:03Speaker 1: know I'm helping out your brain. I'm helping out your brain. Continue. Awesome, awesome,
- 31:10Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. And then
- 31:12Speaker 1: um our second show is a show called You So
- 31:15Speaker 1: Kitchen was chef Ards Wells and Borsha Thomas where we
- 31:19Speaker 1: take a vegan and a really um fine take on
- 31:24Speaker 1: new Southern cooking, mix them together and give people options
- 31:28Speaker 1: and we're really excited about that. And then our third show,
- 31:32Speaker 1: um We'll be a travel show where it's designed for
- 31:36Speaker 1: the first time when we're taking ties and Shop and
- 31:39Speaker 1: Elton Anderson and putting them together and traveling through an
- 31:43Speaker 1: African American's perspective, um, really fine tuning outlines on culture.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And last but not least is a super super big
- 31:51Speaker 1: excited show called Living My Design with Jacking Jack where
- 31:55Speaker 1: we give your house and redesign and you'll love this Raissan.
- 31:59Speaker 1: You get a reveal in the media, Oh oh so
- 32:04Speaker 1: you so we designed and your feed me you better
- 32:08Speaker 1: love you know can America people celebrate over food, over everything?
- 32:15Speaker 1: And then we also hear a powerhouse love kind of
- 32:18Speaker 1: get something you've never seen a show like on a
- 32:21Speaker 1: food network on an HTV that gives you the festival world.
- 32:25Speaker 1: So we're gonna give you a reveal in the media.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Well that's really hot. So that's the Jeff You're nord
- 32:33Speaker 1: I promote him every Saturday. I've been promoting the show
- 32:35Speaker 1: every Saturday on my Facebook page. So again another relationship
- 32:40Speaker 1: I'm helping. Didn't even know I was helping because the
- 32:43Speaker 1: fact that I just trust the relationships and what you're
- 32:46Speaker 1: trying to do. And then the Travel Show give give
- 32:49Speaker 1: us a little bit more detail on that travel show
- 32:51Speaker 1: that really interests me. Where they traveling. Is it all
- 32:54Speaker 1: state side when I say stateside in the United States,
- 32:56Speaker 1: or they just where are they going? Well, this is
- 32:59Speaker 1: this is the great thing about the travel show. That's
- 33:01Speaker 1: the sign is speaking of Rashan. The great thing about
- 33:04Speaker 1: the Travel show is that we're gonna take you all over.
- 33:05Speaker 1: We'll take you off the beaten Pass on the East coast,
- 33:08Speaker 1: the West coast with that are culturally authentic to us. Um.
- 33:13Speaker 1: You know, that's the great gallery, the great person that's
- 33:16Speaker 1: out there designing UM. But you can't do a show
- 33:19Speaker 1: and and help and live through the lens of our
- 33:21Speaker 1: eyes without going to the Motherlands. So we are going
- 33:24Speaker 1: to go to Africa. We are going to you know,
- 33:26Speaker 1: highlight some of the great things about our people, um
- 33:29Speaker 1: uh museum, just cultural things that make us who we are.
- 33:34Speaker 1: So we are going to head to Africa. And we're
- 33:35Speaker 1: also going to tap into the Caribbean, because when you
- 33:37Speaker 1: start looking at thanks full circle, it just seems like
- 33:40Speaker 1: the Caribbean and Africa are natural places to go, but
- 33:42Speaker 1: everybody can't just hop a plane and go there. So
- 33:44Speaker 1: we're gonna also places and the continent of the US
- 33:47Speaker 1: that you need to go to people, you need to see,
- 33:49Speaker 1: people what you're doing, people that you need to support,
- 33:52Speaker 1: and you know, just help uplift each other, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 1: And so that's that's very important. And so it's callot
- 33:56Speaker 1: Lens of Culture, and you will be getting a bird's
- 33:59Speaker 1: eye view of our culture through the lens of these
- 34:01Speaker 1: two awesome posts that are gonna take you two places
- 34:04Speaker 1: off the beaten path. Now some places will be on
- 34:06Speaker 1: the beaten path, but things that you didn't know you
- 34:09Speaker 1: didn't know. Maybe perhaps that um a gallery that you
- 34:12Speaker 1: know we hear about all the time was founded and
- 34:14Speaker 1: owned and operated by African American. So we're diving deep
- 34:17Speaker 1: into the backgrounds of these travel locations just to make
- 34:20Speaker 1: sure when you do hit the road with your family
- 34:23Speaker 1: on that family union or hit the road on a
- 34:25Speaker 1: business trip, take to take two minutes out to go
- 34:27Speaker 1: out and learn a little bit about yourself and support
- 34:31Speaker 1: that person that's out there grinding as we are. See,
- 34:35Speaker 1: they can pitch, that's the key. They can They can pitch.
- 34:39Speaker 1: You know, one get tied up and just pick up
- 34:41Speaker 1: to the start talking. So you know what, we we
- 34:44Speaker 1: joke and we'd always say we're the ying and the
- 34:45Speaker 1: yang because sometimes you know, when when Rochelle's going hard
- 34:48Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh lord, Rochelle, I don't know if
- 34:50Speaker 1: I can talk, and no, good, well I can, but
- 34:52Speaker 1: and then she she can pick up, and you know,
- 34:54Speaker 1: we sort of we kind of know when to go
- 34:55Speaker 1: and when the stop, when to go and you know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: but you know what, we've been in business for sixteen
- 35:00Speaker 1: seventeen years together, so and we've we were friends before that.
- 35:03Speaker 1: So I think one of the things that make us
- 35:05Speaker 1: unique as a black owned company is that we kind
- 35:08Speaker 1: of get each other. You two are super talented. I'm
- 35:12Speaker 1: just letting you know. It's about relationships, it's about power,
- 35:16Speaker 1: is about knowing each other. But you two are gifted
- 35:19Speaker 1: and now I can't I can't take that. I can't
- 35:21Speaker 1: thought I can. I know what you said, and you're
- 35:23Speaker 1: absolutely true. It's about relationship. I would just let you
- 35:25Speaker 1: know this Reshart McDon I got brand, I got brand,
- 35:29Speaker 1: I got all that, But I do not have what
- 35:32Speaker 1: you have. That gift to be able to shape a
- 35:34Speaker 1: story and to be able to manipulate the tone, the
- 35:38Speaker 1: ups and the value, and to be able to say
- 35:40Speaker 1: this show will win on your network. That's a gift,
- 35:42Speaker 1: young ladies. I'm not gonna that's a gift. All right,
- 35:46Speaker 1: we'll we'll take that too. You'd be better you be here.
- 35:49Speaker 1: You got you got fo TVs and production right now
- 35:51Speaker 1: for the Cleo Network, just launched it and just told
- 35:54Speaker 1: you you're the one that's gonna make it successful. Please
- 35:57Speaker 1: don't take it. It's been handed to you. And that's
- 36:00Speaker 1: why you're on my show because I want to tell
- 36:02Speaker 1: people about how gifted you guys are, how how talent
- 36:06Speaker 1: you Because one thing I'm not gonna do on this
- 36:08Speaker 1: show is let people think that the chief success is easy.
- 36:13Speaker 1: To achieve consistency in business, it's hard. And the fact
- 36:18Speaker 1: that you guys have know how you know, there's a
- 36:20Speaker 1: lot of people you know that the small lets, they
- 36:22Speaker 1: work with them. You know, they just said g garn
- 36:25Speaker 1: Dr Steve Perry. They worked with a lot of people
- 36:28Speaker 1: out there in this business. That lets me know that
- 36:32Speaker 1: even if I said down one time with what nephew
- 36:35Speaker 1: tell me, it didn't work out, not because it just
- 36:37Speaker 1: didn't work out, but they didn't stop them. They just
- 36:39Speaker 1: went on. They went on. The little whisper went on someplace.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Whispering is somebody else's there. But that's what they don't
- 36:49Speaker 1: The word no does not stop their brand. And so
- 36:53Speaker 1: so you got two TV shows you got you got

- 37:07Speaker 1: When does that premiere that's kind of for men August
- 37:12Speaker 1: in August? And then the the the remodeling and food
- 37:16Speaker 1: show in May in Living by Design? Correct Okay. Now,
- 37:21Speaker 1: Now Roshan McDonald wants to pitch your show to you.
- 37:24Speaker 1: How do I pitch your show to the pilehouse ladies? Now,

- 37:31Speaker 1: nothing but because all I'm gonna do with your throw

- 37:39Speaker 1: it's because I'm confident. I'm confident in myself but I'm
- 37:42Speaker 1: so humbled by their gifts. That is, it's incredible because
- 37:46Speaker 1: of the fact that I know I've been there. I pitched, Uh,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I pitched. I've gotten about about six shows on TV pitching.
- 37:53Speaker 1: That one on MTV that was the Shop Bobyshop show. Uh,
- 37:58Speaker 1: this Big Time on w B. Uh it was Mobile
- 38:02Speaker 1: Home Disaster that was on w B as well as CMT,
- 38:06Speaker 1: and then it pulled over. That was another show that
- 38:09Speaker 1: was on v H one, and then of course, uh,
- 38:12Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Talk Show, and it was two more shows.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So so I know the difficult nature of it, and

- 41:05Speaker 1: a better way to check in on our house while
- 41:07Speaker 1: I was at work, and a friend recommended Blink. I
- 41:10Speaker 1: was skeptical, but decided to give it a shot, and
- 41:12Speaker 1: I bought a Blink camera system. With our last security system,
- 41:15Speaker 1: false alarms, wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get
- 41:19Speaker 1: out of my bad But our Blink system is different.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Their motion activated cameras that work inside and outside their
- 41:25Speaker 1: wire free, easy to set up, and they run on
- 41:27Speaker 1: two lithium batteries that last up to two years total.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Piece of mind and Blink camera system started under eighty
- 41:32Speaker 1: bucks with no subscriptions. We were on vacation and I
- 41:36Speaker 1: gotten to learn of my smartphone that motion was detected
- 41:38Speaker 1: at our front door. I checked my Blink app and
- 41:40Speaker 1: I saw it was just my cool new device being delivered. Hey,
- 41:43Speaker 1: we agreed no new devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding.
- 41:47Speaker 1: With Blink camera system starting under eighty bucks, home security

- 42:18Speaker 1: While you Are Out hast the best designers and carpenters
- 42:21Speaker 1: from TLC and h G t V. They are joining forces.
- 42:25Speaker 1: One spouse is sent away for a fun weekend while
- 42:28Speaker 1: the other spouse secretly works with a team of designers
- 42:31Speaker 1: to transform a room, two teams, two houses, two days
- 42:34Speaker 1: and ten thousand dollars each. The pressure is on. The
- 42:37Speaker 1: host is one of my favorite people. She really is.
- 42:40Speaker 1: She has reinvented herself from the former BT Teams Summit
- 42:43Speaker 1: star and television host to a do it yourself expert.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Please welcome to money Making Conversation. One of my favorite
- 42:49Speaker 1: people are Nanda Lewis myself and for you listen, thank
- 42:57Speaker 1: you for having me. And can I just say I'm
- 42:59Speaker 1: so proud to view for how you've reinvented yourself. It's
- 43:02Speaker 1: such an inspiration and I'm really excited for you for
- 43:05Speaker 1: the show, and I just want to say congratulations and
- 43:07Speaker 1: thank you for having the conversations we need to be having. Well.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I appreciate the compliment because of the fact that I'm
- 43:13Speaker 1: in a good place in my life because of the
- 43:14Speaker 1: fact that I'm I'm doing something that I want to
- 43:17Speaker 1: see happened. There's something I actually I ways tell people
- 43:20Speaker 1: when when you reach a certain age, whether you get
- 43:22Speaker 1: your third is your thord is and you could and
- 43:24Speaker 1: you don't want to know what to do with your
- 43:25Speaker 1: life just looking back, look back when you were in
- 43:27Speaker 1: your early twenties, look back in those years, because those
- 43:30Speaker 1: are years with designed or driven by passion, with driven
- 43:33Speaker 1: by emotion and actually driven by what you really wanted
- 43:35Speaker 1: to do. But what happens is what happens as you
- 43:38Speaker 1: get older, different things start shaping your direction. It could
- 43:40Speaker 1: be a relationship, it could be education, it could be
- 43:43Speaker 1: a job, it could be a child, it could be
- 43:46Speaker 1: a children and that will get your own course. And
- 43:49Speaker 1: so you reach a point in life you go, what
- 43:51Speaker 1: do I want to do? Just go back, don't look
- 43:54Speaker 1: at that current president. What happens? So you let's let's
- 44:00Speaker 1: talk about you first. You know, first of all, um
- 44:04Speaker 1: uh teen BT was the face of Black America TV,
- 44:09Speaker 1: and you basically were the face of a younger generation,
- 44:12Speaker 1: a generation of you gave a voice, a millennial voice,
- 44:17Speaker 1: and you was pre social media too. Goods. You know
- 44:21Speaker 1: you're social. You know, you might might not be talking
- 44:24Speaker 1: to me if you have social media, because you might
- 44:26Speaker 1: have a fifteen million followers up. Because we get an
- 44:33Speaker 1: old school stylesvision viewers, television viewers and website yes, no,
- 44:39Speaker 1: not even I mean we don't even have websites early on.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I mean that that evolved that. Yeah, television viewers were
- 44:44Speaker 1: Where was that phone calls, like the good old fashioned
- 44:46Speaker 1: phone call like we're doing now. It was like a
- 44:47Speaker 1: phone call. I would love to do a phone call, right,
- 44:50Speaker 1: I mean, it's not a text, it's not a you know,
- 44:53Speaker 1: it's really nice. When you was getting that early success
- 44:56Speaker 1: on BT that led you to your own talk show,
- 45:00Speaker 1: what what what was driving you? Would producers driving you
- 45:03Speaker 1: or did you have your own point of view? So
- 45:06Speaker 1: it's funny you say, uh, you were talking before I
- 45:09Speaker 1: actually came on, but I was listening to you said
- 45:11Speaker 1: you couldn't figure it out. You didn't have a group
- 45:13Speaker 1: of people around you you protected you. So when you
- 45:16Speaker 1: were making all this money and you were kind of
- 45:17Speaker 1: in the middle of everything, when you when you look back,
- 45:19Speaker 1: you probably say I could have made anything happen had
- 45:22Speaker 1: I had these resources. I look back at that time
- 45:24Speaker 1: where I first went to BT and kind of that
- 45:26Speaker 1: whole I could say five to seven year window around BT.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I look at that in the same way I went
- 45:33Speaker 1: into an industry that I didn't expect to be in
- 45:36Speaker 1: and didn't really know a whole lot about and what
- 45:38Speaker 1: I did. I always like to look at what I
- 45:40Speaker 1: did wrong, because it's not to sit and glame or guilt.
- 45:42Speaker 1: That's not But what it is to do is to
- 45:45Speaker 1: to have a helpful look back at what you didn't
- 45:48Speaker 1: do right, so you know what to do right now,
- 45:51Speaker 1: because now the only time we can affect. So I
- 45:53Speaker 1: look back and I go had I known what I
- 45:56Speaker 1: know now, here's what I would have done differently. And
- 45:58Speaker 1: what I would have done differently was really understood my
- 46:01Speaker 1: position and the business of me right. I didn't understand
- 46:06Speaker 1: myself as a business. I didn't understand myself at UM
- 46:10Speaker 1: as a brand. And I gained a lot of popularity
- 46:14Speaker 1: from just being myself and kind of following the things
- 46:17Speaker 1: that came up and listening to my intuition. Tho, they
- 46:19Speaker 1: are all really important things to do. Listen to your intuition.
- 46:21Speaker 1: That's how I made it to team someone I was
- 46:23Speaker 1: doing youth work, and those youths um led me to
- 46:26Speaker 1: that job because I told them about it, and I
- 46:28Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I'm not gonna do that. You guys
- 46:30Speaker 1: just TV. I'm not interested in TV. And they're like, what,
- 46:32Speaker 1: you just sat here for a summer telling us how
- 46:34Speaker 1: life brings you opportunities. You have to be aware, you
- 46:37Speaker 1: have to stay open, and now you're not going to
- 46:38Speaker 1: be open. I was like, oh, yeah, that's a bit hypocritical,
- 46:41Speaker 1: so let me go ahead and tide. And you know,
- 46:43Speaker 1: it was a beautiful entry into something that was completely
- 46:46Speaker 1: unexpected for my life, and yet it also did things
- 46:49Speaker 1: to my life that were unexpected, and because I wasn't
- 46:52Speaker 1: prepared for them and didn't have the people around me
- 46:54Speaker 1: that could help me prepare for them, they ran me
- 46:56Speaker 1: over like it was too much. I felt like almost
- 46:59Speaker 1: blue a gasket of my soul, you know. In in
- 47:03Speaker 1: those seven five or seven years now, it was also
- 47:05Speaker 1: a really exciting time in my life, my early twenties.
- 47:08Speaker 1: My you know, I'm making money, I'm young, I'm cute
- 47:11Speaker 1: like a lot of superstar, but I couldn't take advantage
- 47:15Speaker 1: of it in the way that looking back, I realized
- 47:18Speaker 1: I could have had I've been paying attention, no harm,
- 47:20Speaker 1: no foul. I still got all that stuff going for me. Absolutely,
- 47:23Speaker 1: And I want to say that this is not a
- 47:26Speaker 1: negative comment. This is about why I created this show
- 47:29Speaker 1: because people need to understand it. You can get caught
- 47:32Speaker 1: in a whirlwind and and for you an athlete, you
- 47:36Speaker 1: could be an athlete. A lot of times it happens.
- 47:38Speaker 1: We did. It happen to them all time, right and
- 47:40Speaker 1: so but a lot of times when you're when you're
- 47:42Speaker 1: a talent, because you have to know the place she
- 47:45Speaker 1: was at because of the fact that the et was
- 47:47Speaker 1: the network work. You know what I'm saying. You know,
- 47:52Speaker 1: if you want to be a star, you want to
- 47:54Speaker 1: be a videos played you turned to be et and
- 47:57Speaker 1: and then here you were this beautiful for articular young lady.
- 48:02Speaker 1: You're going like wow. You know, from my standpoint, I'm going,
- 48:06Speaker 1: why ain't I managing? Huh? Because the fact that the
- 48:11Speaker 1: two I probably I probably could have done change the
- 48:14Speaker 1: world right back then if I had you manage. But
- 48:17Speaker 1: you know, but thing is that thank you. But the
- 48:19Speaker 1: thing that you did, the thing that I was just
- 48:21Speaker 1: looking at you. But I always know that that That's
- 48:23Speaker 1: why I was asking that question at some point along
- 48:26Speaker 1: the line, people don't even know you, and they start
- 48:28Speaker 1: making decisions for you, and they start telling you this
- 48:31Speaker 1: is what you should do, and and and Steve tell you.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Whenever I ask any talent I worked with, is Kevin
- 48:36Speaker 1: hard h to Roger p Henson or the Maori Twins,
- 48:41Speaker 1: I always asking what they want to do. That's what
- 48:43Speaker 1: you want, I said, that said, that's way, because I
- 48:46Speaker 1: gotta make it work for you long term, because short
- 48:49Speaker 1: term I can. I can I conduct tape you into situation.
- 48:52Speaker 1: But one day you're gonna wake up and go, I'm
- 48:54Speaker 1: bored or why am I doing this? This is crazy?
- 48:58Speaker 1: Are you start rebelling from the foremat and so and
- 49:02Speaker 1: so I was watching you exactly what happened to me,
- 49:04Speaker 1: Rashaan Exactly? I started rebelling from the from the same
- 49:07Speaker 1: and rebelling from the unhappiness that created in my life.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I felt scared a lot of the time. I had
- 49:12Speaker 1: a lot of stalkers. I had people all over me
- 49:15Speaker 1: all the time, and I didn't know who to trust.
- 49:18Speaker 1: And I asked my you know, certain family members to
- 49:21Speaker 1: come manage me, helped me out, let me figure this out.
- 49:23Speaker 1: And they were all, you know, they're doing their own lives.
- 49:24Speaker 1: That's not what they wanted to do, and I you
- 49:26Speaker 1: can't force people to do what they want to do.
- 49:28Speaker 1: So I felt, you know completely, I mean to a
- 49:31Speaker 1: certain extent, isolated and alone. I mean, I'm from California,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I was living in d C. I've gone to school there,
- 49:36Speaker 1: so of course I knew people. But it's different when
- 49:37Speaker 1: you have like your family around you, um and people
- 49:41Speaker 1: who know what they're doing in a particular industry. So
- 49:43Speaker 1: exactly what you said is what happened to me. And
- 49:46Speaker 1: I I was supporting people in my family that I
- 49:49Speaker 1: cared about wanted to see do well. But I wasn't
- 49:51Speaker 1: investing money right and I was you know, I've never
- 49:53Speaker 1: spent a lot of money. I made a good amount
- 49:55Speaker 1: of money and I and I used my money wisely
- 49:57Speaker 1: in ways that I felt were good. But I didn't
- 49:59Speaker 1: have that advice that I needed, and I didn't know
- 50:02Speaker 1: what I wanted. So when you say you're the first
- 50:04Speaker 1: thing you asked them is what do you want? I
- 50:06Speaker 1: don't even know what I would have how I would
- 50:09Speaker 1: have answered that question my my twenty five or twenty
- 50:12Speaker 1: six year old self. I don't know how I would
- 50:13Speaker 1: have answered that question, it certainly would be a different
- 50:15Speaker 1: answer than it is today. And today I know it's
- 50:18Speaker 1: the truth. And so I needed the maturity that life brings.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I needed to go through the things I went through.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Sometimes you're not ready for the opportunities that come your
- 50:25Speaker 1: way to really maximize them the way you could. I
- 50:28Speaker 1: had a great time, I did beautiful work. I'm proud
- 50:30Speaker 1: of my career, but I was never happy with it.
- 50:33Speaker 1: And and now I finally get to understand those kind
- 50:37Speaker 1: of full context of everything I built back then that
- 50:40Speaker 1: you know, I'm so grateful that people still love and
- 50:43Speaker 1: support me. They're like, where are you bid that? The gift?
- 50:46Speaker 1: You know what I mean, not a gift? And I
- 50:48Speaker 1: built that with my hard work, not even knowing what
- 50:51Speaker 1: I was building. Um, But now I know what I
- 50:53Speaker 1: want to do, and and that's a completely different feeling.
- 50:56Speaker 1: I feel joyful when I go to work now, you know,
- 50:58Speaker 1: I feel happy ab out like even doing promotion for
- 51:02Speaker 1: the one. And that's that's funny because a lot of
- 51:05Speaker 1: people don't understand that money doesn't it truly does not
- 51:08Speaker 1: make you happy. And it can get your things. You
- 51:11Speaker 1: can get your things and can get you places and
- 51:13Speaker 1: get you indoors and get you in college apart you
- 51:19Speaker 1: are playing. But the thing that that the thing that
- 51:22Speaker 1: I like about were you at now? And I've read
- 51:25Speaker 1: your great your bio and that was all I talked
- 51:27Speaker 1: about earlier, about going back in your past and you
- 51:30Speaker 1: can find out exactly and it talks about who influenced
- 51:33Speaker 1: you in this direction, about being a taking care of yourself,
- 51:38Speaker 1: fixing things yourself, talk about that relationship. So my grandma
- 51:44Speaker 1: was this strong, just renaissance woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Originally
- 51:49Speaker 1: she moved out to San Diego with my grandfather at
- 51:52Speaker 1: the time they eloped, and she go to life there,
- 51:54Speaker 1: had two daughters, and and uh, you know, when my
- 51:57Speaker 1: mom had my sister nine, then my her marriage with
- 52:01Speaker 1: my dad fell apart. She tried to go different places,
- 52:04Speaker 1: and you know, like all single moms to you try
- 52:06Speaker 1: to make it work. She was so fortunate to be
- 52:09Speaker 1: able to go back home and to go to my
- 52:11Speaker 1: grandma's house, and she was so blessed we all were
- 52:13Speaker 1: to have my grandma there with open arms saying, yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: you can come, of course, you can come here. Of
- 52:17Speaker 1: course you know, be here. And so my grandma really
- 52:20Speaker 1: took us in and and and and raised my sister
- 52:23Speaker 1: and I and through that process of her raising me
- 52:26Speaker 1: with the kind of woman she was. When things broke
- 52:28Speaker 1: in her house, she picked up a tool and fixed it.
- 52:30Speaker 1: She didn't call somebody, she didn't wait nless it was
- 52:33Speaker 1: some really major repair. But she grew up, you know,
- 52:35Speaker 1: growing her own food and having animals that doing her
- 52:38Speaker 1: own fixing floors in the house when she was little.
