- 0:00Speaker 1: The first presidential debate is in the books. Meghan Kelly
- 0:03Speaker 1: is going to join us to talk about this debate
- 0:05Speaker 1: and what advice you would have for the president. Also,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Joe Biden doesn't like INTIFA, just kidding, he really does,
- 0:11Speaker 1: but don't worry. It's not a really group somehow, he says,
- 0:14Speaker 1: it's just an idea, even though they're torching American cities.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Oh and the Green New Deal, he says he doesn't
- 0:19Speaker 1: like it, except his website says he loves it. The
- 0:22Speaker 1: Ben Ferguson Show podcast starts right now. All right, welcome
- 0:33Speaker 1: to Ben Ferguson Podcast. It's nice to have you with
- 0:36Speaker 1: us after the first presidential debate. And a dear friend
- 0:39Speaker 1: of mine who I've been doing TV with now I'm
- 0:42Speaker 1: getting old, and this is how I know I'm getting old.
- 0:44Speaker 1: For gosh, I don't know fifteen years is joining me today.
- 0:47Speaker 1: She's actually done one of these debates, and she has
- 0:50Speaker 1: an incredible new podcast that has just started last week.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Meghan Kelly is joining me now. Megan, it's always a
- 0:57Speaker 1: pleasure to see you. It's been forever and it's nice
- 1:00Speaker 1: to have you on the podcast today. And now you're
- 1:02Speaker 1: doing in the podcast We're gonna talk about that a
- 1:05Speaker 1: little bit later, and people need to download your podcast.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But you look at this first president to debate, you've
- 1:12Speaker 1: done this before. What was your big takeaway from this
- 1:16Speaker 1: first night of I think it's fair to call it chaos. Yeah,
- 1:20Speaker 1: it was chaotic. I start to look at it more.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I know, people, it was a hot master, there's no question,
- 1:26Speaker 1: But I also look at it more like watching two
- 1:28Speaker 1: boxers in the ring and you're trying to figure out,
- 1:31Speaker 1: you know, what's the approach here? And Trump was on
- 1:34Speaker 1: offense the entire night, jabbing jabbing, jabbing, jabbing, jabbing, and
- 1:38Speaker 1: Biden kept running to the ropes. You know, he's trying
- 1:40Speaker 1: to get into the corner, like h scary man and
- 1:44Speaker 1: so like I think from that standpoint, you would either
- 1:47Speaker 1: fall in love with Trump or you'd be agree with Trump.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Right if you like if you like an aggressor if
- 1:51Speaker 1: you like somebody who looks strong, you're falling more in
- 1:54Speaker 1: love with him. If you're the woman in the suburb
- 1:56Speaker 1: who just wants him to be a little bit more
- 1:58Speaker 1: polite and genteel, you're ah, Trump, what are you doing?
- 2:02Speaker 1: But I think it was all about Trump and not
- 2:04Speaker 1: about Biden, and that's probably a win for Biden, right
- 2:07Speaker 1: since he's ahead in most of these uh swing state polls.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You know, I talked to somebody at the Trump campaign
- 2:12Speaker 1: and they were like, what did you think. I said, guys,
- 2:15Speaker 1: interrupting is an art in a debate. I argue that
- 2:18Speaker 1: you use interrupting if there's something you need to nail
- 2:21Speaker 1: the opponent on. But if you interrupt everything, it takes
- 2:25Speaker 1: away from the real big points. There was one big point,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and I want to get your reaction to this, and
- 2:30Speaker 1: it was the point about Antifa and the idea. And
- 2:33Speaker 1: I thought it was a huge gaff by Joe Biden
- 2:36Speaker 1: where he literally said that Antifa is an idea. Take
- 2:40Speaker 1: take a look at this. Somebody's got to do something
- 2:42Speaker 1: about Antifa and the left, because this is not a
- 2:45Speaker 1: right wing problem. This is a LEFTI is supremisist. Antifa
- 2:52Speaker 1: is an idea and not an organism. You got it, Poli,
- 2:55Speaker 1: That's what it is. Tony Fbi his FBI directors, Well, then,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I mean, Megan, the idea when everybody on TV has
- 3:03Speaker 1: been seeing what Antifa has been doing the stays around
- 3:05Speaker 1: the country, that this is somehow not an organization idea.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I couldn't believe he actually said that. Not only that,
- 3:11Speaker 1: but that really in many ways he kind of got
- 3:13Speaker 1: away with it, completely got away with it, and talk
- 3:16Speaker 1: about taking something out of context. So FBI Director Ray said,
- 3:20Speaker 1: Antifa is an he said, it's not an organization, right,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and Trump his short form was you gotta be kidding me.
- 3:27Speaker 1: But I actually looked it up, so I remember the
- 3:28Speaker 1: guy came out and clarified it, and Director Ray went
- 3:31Speaker 1: on to clarify that this group is a movement, a
- 3:35Speaker 1: quote real thing, not a fiction, that engages an organized
- 3:39Speaker 1: tactical activity at the local and regional level. It's dangerous.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So to summarize that with it's just an idea, it's
- 3:46Speaker 1: just come on, like, you've got to been kidding. We've
- 3:51Speaker 1: seen them, we've seen them shoot police officers, like, please
- 3:54Speaker 1: spare us. The someone's just thinking about doing an anti
- 3:58Speaker 1: fascist thing. We'll see, we'll see what happens. It's it's
- 4:02Speaker 1: the point that I saw last time. I'm sitting there going, okay,
- 4:05Speaker 1: this is when you do interrupt, this is when you pounce,
- 4:08Speaker 1: this is when you don't let him up off the ropes.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And then it was like Wallace, who you know you've
- 4:13Speaker 1: done debate to them. It was almost like he stepped
- 4:16Speaker 1: in to take a punch for Joe Biden, like Okay,
- 4:18Speaker 1: it's getting bad here, let's let's separate this. A lot
- 4:21Speaker 1: of people criticized him for that last night. I want
- 4:24Speaker 1: your take on that. Oh you know, I felt for him,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and I'm loath to criticize him because I understand how
- 4:30Speaker 1: hard it is. It's a high wire act, and that
- 4:33Speaker 1: was unlike anything anybody's had to deal with. I mean,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Trump was just he wouldn't let anybody get a word
- 4:37Speaker 1: in edgewise. So I wish Chris had done a few
- 4:39Speaker 1: different things to maintain control. And I do think, unfortunately
- 4:43Speaker 1: for him, where he did try to serve control every
- 4:45Speaker 1: time in an order to Biden's benefit, and not once
- 4:48Speaker 1: did it in order to Trump's. So that's why people
- 4:50Speaker 1: were left with a bad taste in their mouth. But
- 4:53Speaker 1: I will tell you when I looked at that and
- 4:54Speaker 1: the chaos of the debate, I blamed Biden from missing
- 4:58Speaker 1: an opportunity. It was a present Trump's fault with the interrupting.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean, Biden did like four interruptions and he's kind
- 5:05Speaker 1: Because don't get me wrong, Trump was the problem and
- 5:07Speaker 1: when you're talking about order. But Biden had an opportunity.
- 5:12Speaker 1: If I were advising Biden, I would have said, raise up,
- 5:16Speaker 1: don't look at Chris Wallace as your daddy. He's not daddy.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Daddy's not going to stop the fight. You want George
- 5:21Speaker 1: Washington's job. You go out there, you'd find a way
- 5:23Speaker 1: to make it stop. And you have an opportunity to
- 5:26Speaker 1: look at him and say, Donald, we've got an hour
- 5:28Speaker 1: and a half. We've got eighty to ninety million people
- 5:31Speaker 1: likely watching this, and they're trying to make a really
- 5:34Speaker 1: important decision, So can we just make a deal. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: won't interrupt you, and please don't interrupt me, just out
- 5:39Speaker 1: of respect for the audience at home. It doesn't matter
- 5:42Speaker 1: what Trump says or whether Trump actually agrees. You just
- 5:44Speaker 1: look like a statesman. It would have been a sound
- 5:47Speaker 1: bite moment. Don't whine, yeah, just try to be above
- 5:49Speaker 1: it all. And then Ben from that point forward, whenever
- 5:52Speaker 1: Trump interrupted me, I would I would have mucked him,
- 5:55Speaker 1: like from the high ground. I would have looked over
- 5:57Speaker 1: it and like you seem up, said do you need
- 6:01Speaker 1: a break? Getting the better of you? Are you? Are
- 6:06Speaker 1: you gonna be okay? And that would have driven Trump nuts.
- 6:10Speaker 1: There was one optic last night, and I laughed because
- 6:14Speaker 1: I knew how the media was going to respond to it.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Every time that Biden got very angry or upset, he
- 6:21Speaker 1: did what the media accuses Trump all he doing, doing
- 6:24Speaker 1: name calling. He said he was a racist. He told him, literally,
- 6:27Speaker 1: the President Night States America, to shut up. If Trump
- 6:31Speaker 1: would have done that, they would have said Trump's unhinged.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Trump comes unglued, Trump is erratic and cannot be trusted
- 6:38Speaker 1: with nuclear codes. We've we've seen this play out before,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but you saw last night when Biden got really irritated,
- 6:45Speaker 1: very quickly, he went to straight up name calling. Shut up,
- 6:50Speaker 1: be quiet, You're a racist, you're a big at, you
- 6:53Speaker 1: support white supremacists. And that is a point that I
- 6:57Speaker 1: think the President did not capitalize on enough, saying if
- 7:00Speaker 1: he can't even take heat from me, how do you
- 7:03Speaker 1: think he's going to do dealing with the rest of
- 7:04Speaker 1: the world and people that hate us well, And ironically,
- 7:06Speaker 1: those wound up being self inflicted wounds by Biden. To Biden,
- 7:11Speaker 1: because every time he did it, he did it right
- 7:13Speaker 1: after he made a salient point, right like he did
- 7:16Speaker 1: a wind up. He made a point Trump hadn't interrupted him,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and then he'd land it with some petty insult like well,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you're the worst prison in the world. You were like, yeah, wait,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you're kind of seven presidential. You us getting your point
- 7:27Speaker 1: and then like and then of course Trump would respond
- 7:29Speaker 1: to it with like roa, and then you're back on
- 7:31Speaker 1: the playground and you're thinking about the personal insults instead
- 7:34Speaker 1: of his point that he wanted us to hear A Biden.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You know, I talk every day for three hours on
- 7:40Speaker 1: the radio and this podcast as well, and the one
- 7:44Speaker 1: thing I can tell that voters really care about in
- 7:46Speaker 1: this election, and it's where I think Donald Trump has
- 7:48Speaker 1: the biggest advantage. It's not even the economy it used
- 7:50Speaker 1: to be. It's law and order and the president needs
- 7:54Speaker 1: to capitalize on that more than any other issue right now.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Because you can watch every night and in liberal cities
- 8:01Speaker 1: for one hundred plus days, in place like Portland, you
- 8:04Speaker 1: what you see is you see lawlessness in these liberal cities.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And last night he did have an excellent point, and
- 8:11Speaker 1: I want to play that for you. It is where
- 8:13Speaker 1: the President talked about, Hey, Biden, name one organization that
- 8:17Speaker 1: has endorsed you in law enforcement no one trusts you
- 8:20Speaker 1: in law enforcement. And of course you know Biden said,
- 8:23Speaker 1: oh that's not true, it's bologna. You fact check it.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And what the media loves to do. No one has
- 8:28Speaker 1: endorsed a guy. Take a look at this that still funding.
- 8:32Speaker 1: That is not true. He doesn't have any law with you,
- 8:35Speaker 1: He has no law enforced. That's not true, almost nothing. Really,
- 8:40Speaker 1: who do you have? Name one group that supports you,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Name one group that came out and supported you. Go ahead,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I think we have time. We don't have time to
- 8:47Speaker 1: do it. Nae law enforcement group that came out, gentlemen,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna I'm gonna take back the bottom.
- 8:57Speaker 1: You know, if I'm Trump, I turned that into a campaign,
- 9:00Speaker 1: an ad right now and run it all the way
- 9:02Speaker 1: through election day, because I think that's how he can
- 9:04Speaker 1: turn hearts and minds of the undecideds. Yeah, and you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: law enforcement is definitely a gettable group by Democrats. Normally,
- 9:11Speaker 1: you know, they tend to be union, they tend to
- 9:13Speaker 1: be middle class workers. It's not like this is this
- 9:16Speaker 1: is a group that always goes to Republic and they
- 9:18Speaker 1: were gettable. But given what's going on and how just
- 9:21Speaker 1: the uniform condemnation of police right now by the Democrats.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It's just a group that's full of racists and they're
- 9:27Speaker 1: all brutal. You know, black, white, doesn't matter. They're bad.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Why would they why would they get behind the Democratic
- 9:34Speaker 1: Party this year? And I think, you know Trump, that
- 9:37Speaker 1: was one point he made well because he stayed all
- 9:40Speaker 1: over right like he he followed up like which one,
- 9:42Speaker 1: which one? Tell me name the name the thing, and
- 9:44Speaker 1: he couldn't do it. And I do think that in
- 9:47Speaker 1: the midst of that Proud Boys, what all that that bad,
- 9:50Speaker 1: bad section, that that was not good. Um. Trump made
- 9:53Speaker 1: a good point about it is the violence we're seeing
- 9:57Speaker 1: in the streets is coming mostly from the left. He's
- 10:00Speaker 1: right about that. He tried to turn what was an
- 10:02Speaker 1: awkward moment for him into an offense, like an offensive
- 10:05Speaker 1: moment against Biden. And because he wasn't clear and condemning
- 10:08Speaker 1: Proud Boys, it got very muddled. But it is true.
- 10:11Speaker 1: The reason we've seen some militias in the streets is
- 10:14Speaker 1: because there was something to fight. People were going out
- 10:16Speaker 1: and turned from protesters into rioters who are flipping over
- 10:19Speaker 1: people's tables and shooting police officers. And you know, there's
- 10:23Speaker 1: some background to how they got there not to defend
- 10:25Speaker 1: their conduct, but Trump's write that the majority of the
- 10:27Speaker 1: violence has come from Antipa and it's supporting militias. You
- 10:32Speaker 1: look at the harassment of people. You as a public figure,
- 10:35Speaker 1: You've had people walk up to you and say things
- 10:37Speaker 1: and get in your face. But we're seeing this now
- 10:40Speaker 1: happen to normal people that are sitting out having dinner.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And I think that's something that the president could really
- 10:46Speaker 1: capitalize on, saying, do you want to live in a
- 10:48Speaker 1: country where people can surround you at dinner, scream at
- 10:51Speaker 1: you and tell you that if you don't say something,
- 10:55Speaker 1: they will literally come after you even more. And that
- 10:58Speaker 1: was a missed opportunity. I think as well, you're so
- 11:00Speaker 1: right because think about it. Those those videos are so infuriating,
- 11:04Speaker 1: aren't they there? They make my blood boil. You see
- 11:08Speaker 1: some couple minding their own business, A lot of them
- 11:10Speaker 1: are supporters, well they're supporters of BLM, and the next
- 11:16Speaker 1: thing you know, their tables getting flipped or they're making
- 11:19Speaker 1: you raise the fist. You have to raise your fist
- 11:23Speaker 1: and say Black Lives Matter or or else, like we
- 11:27Speaker 1: don't know what. And I feel like it's indicative of
- 11:29Speaker 1: what's happening in the country on a larger level where
- 11:33Speaker 1: even these corporations or the NFL or the NBA, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Drew Brees, you will see it our way or you
- 11:41Speaker 1: will be punished. You got it. You will do what
- 11:44Speaker 1: we say, or you're going to lose your job. Got it?
- 11:48Speaker 1: And that's I mean, that's no way of winning hearts
- 11:50Speaker 1: and minds. They've completely shut down debate. Their way of
- 11:53Speaker 1: winning debate is you don't get to talk. That's it.
- 11:56Speaker 1: You listen to me, you don't get to talk. Feel
- 11:59Speaker 1: like if Trump's at any sort of ace in the
- 12:01Speaker 1: hole that he didn't create, that's it. People don't want
- 12:05Speaker 1: to live like that. We're Americans. It's a free country.
- 12:08Speaker 1: We're allowed to think what we want, We're allowed to
- 12:09Speaker 1: say what we want. And the thing we cherish more
- 12:11Speaker 1: than anything else is the free and open debate of ideas.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I was talking to a ceoar the other day about
- 12:18Speaker 1: back in the eighties and the early nineties the shakedowns
- 12:22Speaker 1: of the Alice Sharpton Jesse Jackson's where they would go
- 12:25Speaker 1: to a company and say, if you don't do what
- 12:26Speaker 1: we need you to do, and if you don't donate
- 12:28Speaker 1: to us. We're going to pick at you. We're going
- 12:30Speaker 1: to come out and say that you're hurting African American
- 12:33Speaker 1: workers and you're a racist company, or you can work
- 12:36Speaker 1: with us. What we're now saying is he described to
- 12:39Speaker 1: me as this is nationwide. No one is willing to
- 12:43Speaker 1: take on Black Lives matter, which, by the way, in
- 12:45Speaker 1: California was chanting death to America. That is a chant
- 12:49Speaker 1: that you hear by the Aetola and Iran. You hear
- 12:51Speaker 1: it from Isis and Hamas and Hezbolla on al Qaeda.
- 12:55Speaker 1: They're chanting death to America. They're chanting what do we
- 12:57Speaker 1: want dead cops when we want him now? In New
- 12:58Speaker 1: York they're chanting pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon.
- 13:02Speaker 1: In Minneapolis while the police are escorting them across a
- 13:05Speaker 1: bridge for their protest. But no one has the guts
- 13:08Speaker 1: to stand up to them, none of these. I mean,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you talk about billions of dollars in advertising in sports
- 13:13Speaker 1: from the US open in the corners of every into
- 13:16Speaker 1: the court. Black lives matter on the NBA courts, the NFL,
- 13:20Speaker 1: not a single organization seems willing to stand up say
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'm not going to support an organization that's channing death
- 13:26Speaker 1: to America. Well, you know what you know. To me,
- 13:30Speaker 1: it's so ironic because you know who protects black lives. Police,
- 13:35Speaker 1: That's who protects black lives in the inner city from
- 13:38Speaker 1: the crime that goes on there. I think about the
- 13:40Speaker 1: women and children in these centers that are filled with
- 13:44Speaker 1: violent felonies. And when you deefund police, you take police
- 13:49Speaker 1: out of those city centers. Guess who gets hurt the
- 13:51Speaker 1: women and the children. They don't want the police presents
- 13:54Speaker 1: to go down. If you go to any of these
- 13:56Speaker 1: precinct meetings, they are arguing for more police. Women talk
- 14:00Speaker 1: about how they're relieved when they see a police in
- 14:02Speaker 1: the vestibule of their building. So it's this because something
- 14:06Speaker 1: awful happened with George Floyd, which no one would defend.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Suddenly the women in the inner city Chicago are here
- 14:12Speaker 1: in New York have to be at greater risk because
- 14:15Speaker 1: we have to get rid of the police protecting them,
- 14:18Speaker 1: because we need to push this narrative that all police
- 14:20Speaker 1: are bad and we need to get rid of them.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I mean, look what just happened in Minneapolis. Ben they
- 14:25Speaker 1: defunded the police. They got rid of the entire police,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and now immediately they regret it and the board is
- 14:30Speaker 1: reversing itself and they want their police back, no kidding. Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and everyone saw that coming, right, You knew that when
- 14:37Speaker 1: they said we're going to disband the police, right, I mean,
- 14:39Speaker 1: not just defund them, disband them. And now they're just kidding,
- 14:43Speaker 1: never mind, took them three months. The other thing, if
- 14:46Speaker 1: you look at BLM's actual mission statements, and there it's
- 14:49Speaker 1: a different group depending on where you look. You know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: they have local chapters, but to pull up the one
- 14:53Speaker 1: from Seattle and take a look at their mission. What
- 14:55Speaker 1: they want is to defund the police, get rid of
- 14:57Speaker 1: the nuclear family. They don't believe in in sort of
- 14:59Speaker 1: the hetero normative family where there's a husband and a
- 15:02Speaker 1: wife who are straight, I mean, like who most people are, like,
- 15:06Speaker 1: I don't care if you're If you're not hetero and
- 15:08Speaker 1: you're not whatever, that's fine. But they're against it, like
- 15:11Speaker 1: they're against it, and they want they want to open
- 15:14Speaker 1: up the jails, they want to open up the prisons.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Everyone gets stick it out because they don't believe the
- 15:18Speaker 1: system is fair. Is that what Nike supports, is that
- 15:22Speaker 1: what the NFL is supporting. I think these people they're afraid,
- 15:26Speaker 1: they're afraid of being called racists. They pay the ransom.
- 15:30Speaker 1: So just like you talked about with Sharpton, so that
- 15:32Speaker 1: they don't, you know, if they get in trouble, they've
- 15:34Speaker 1: got this group behind it, and they haven't done their
- 15:36Speaker 1: research on what capital be. Capital l Capital M stands
- 15:40Speaker 1: for lowercase Black Lives Matter. Everyone agrees capital it's a
- 15:44Speaker 1: totally different story that group. People need to understand it
- 15:47Speaker 1: before they put their little sign up. My guests for
- 15:50Speaker 1: meeting Megan Kelly, she's a good friend of know owner
- 15:52Speaker 1: for years. And I want to take a very quick break.
- 15:54Speaker 1: We'll come back and talk about what are you doing
- 15:56Speaker 1: now this new podcast? How is life? People say it
- 15:59Speaker 1: always how's Megan? Where is she? I'm like, it's a
- 16:02Speaker 1: great question. We're gonna deal with that coming up next
- 16:03Speaker 1: in the Ben Ferguson Show podcast. But first, real quick,
- 16:06Speaker 1: I want to say thank you to our sponsor today

- 16:35Speaker 1: has more than two million conservatives just like you. They
- 16:39Speaker 1: are fighting and protecting our First and Second Amendment rights.
- 16:42Speaker 1: All right, welcome back. It is the Ben Ferguson Podcast
- 16:45Speaker 1: to my guests with me as a new podcaster to
- 16:48Speaker 1: the game, and it's going to be a very, very,
- 16:51Speaker 1: very big and successful podcast. Meghan Kelly, I get asked
- 16:54Speaker 1: this all the time for you that know that we
- 16:56Speaker 1: know each other. They're like, what is she doing? Where
- 17:00Speaker 1: is she? I miss her? Now you don't have to
- 17:02Speaker 1: miss you anymore. You guys have just launched your your
- 17:05Speaker 1: brand new podcast. Tell everybody about it. So it's called
- 17:08Speaker 1: The Megan Kelly Show. And you can download it on
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know, your phone. I was talking to my mom.
- 17:12Speaker 1: She's like, how do I get it? I don't understand.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I said, go to your apps. You type in podcasts,
- 17:18Speaker 1: it'll come up. You click it. You got a little
- 17:21Speaker 1: button now on your phone and then you just search
- 17:23Speaker 1: Megan Kelly. Very just hit subscribing, download and then you
- 17:27Speaker 1: give me a five star review. That's it. That's all
- 17:29Speaker 1: you got to do. Five star reviews important. Don't forget
- 17:31Speaker 1: that totally. And it was actually funny because I looked
- 17:34Speaker 1: at the reviews one day and it was like it
- 17:36Speaker 1: said like great, great, great, and it said Mom, Mom, Mom.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I got how long? And then I
- 17:40Speaker 1: realized it was mon Monday. I had a hip moment like, oh, wow,
- 17:45Speaker 1: you went too far. You went too far. She's like, hey,
- 17:48Speaker 1: she's all in. At least she knows she's got your back.
- 17:50Speaker 1: She's awesome. So what are people gonna get with this podcast?
- 17:54Speaker 1: So I'm going to do a couple of different things.
- 17:55Speaker 1: We'll do long form interviews with interesting guests, especially on
- 17:59Speaker 1: taboo subjects. I mean, I'm actually really interested to touch
- 18:02Speaker 1: every third rail because we need more people to do it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: No one's going to have these honest conversations unless more
- 18:08Speaker 1: people start having these honest conversations. You know, we have
- 18:10Speaker 1: to push back against the narrative that certain subjects are untouchable.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And so that's one, but two, I want to do
- 18:19Speaker 1: the news. So for example, today Wednesday, we dropped an
- 18:23Speaker 1: episode or about to that talks about my reaction and
- 18:27Speaker 1: my panel's reaction to Debate Debate last night, we have
- 18:29Speaker 1: like a long, interesting discussion on what worked and what
- 18:32Speaker 1: didn't work. And I think that's always something that I did. Okay,
- 18:36Speaker 1: you know, I was able to take something dense and
- 18:39Speaker 1: big and sometimes confusing and condense it down to something
- 18:42Speaker 1: that was easy to digest by the audience. So I'll
- 18:45Speaker 1: be doing that too. You know. I went through the
- 18:48Speaker 1: withdrawal that I think you probably went through when I
- 18:52Speaker 1: did seven years at CNN, and then I had this
- 18:55Speaker 1: period over the last three and a half months, I've
- 18:59Speaker 1: done no TV and it's surreal, but it's also kind
- 19:04Speaker 1: of been like disconnecting from social media in a sense
- 19:07Speaker 1: where you just get this, okay, I get to relax
- 19:10Speaker 1: and not have to do that. Have you missed TV?
- 19:14Speaker 1: What part of it do you miss? Do you want
- 19:16Speaker 1: to do it again? I mean when you did that
- 19:18Speaker 1: interview at Fox a couple months ago, I love it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Everybody thinks that if you're in TV, you know everything
- 19:23Speaker 1: And my phone blew up going and she's coming back,
- 19:25Speaker 1: She's coming back. I'm like, I have no idea. That's sweet.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So many people have said, just go back to Fox.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I want to see it. On Fox and I appreciate that,
- 19:32Speaker 1: but the truth is, I don't miss that at all.
- 19:36Speaker 1: For me. My life and cable news once I ascended
- 19:40Speaker 1: to the prime time was really tough. It was highly unpleasant,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and I just I looked around and said, I don't
- 19:49Speaker 1: want to live like this. It's not worth it to me.
- 19:52Speaker 1: You know, I love my audience and my relationship with them,
- 19:55Speaker 1: but I need some joy in my life. And I
- 19:58Speaker 1: need to see my kids, who are only seven, five
- 20:01Speaker 1: and three when I left Fox News, so you know,
- 20:05Speaker 1: I stand by that, and I made the right decision
- 20:07Speaker 1: for me. Obviously, NBC did not work out, was not
- 20:10Speaker 1: a good choice for me, which I learned the hard way,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and I never I just kind of thought, I do
- 20:13Speaker 1: a morning show that would let me get home to
- 20:15Speaker 1: see my kids, and I didn't really think it through,
- 20:17Speaker 1: which was on me. But now that I'm free and
- 20:21Speaker 1: I can set my own schedule, on my own boss,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and I can do the news the way I want
- 20:24Speaker 1: to do it and just reconnect with my audience, I
- 20:26Speaker 1: feel totally hopeful. You know, I'm seeing my kids, I'm
- 20:29Speaker 1: seeing my husband, I'm seeing actually my friends, which is amazing.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I never had time to nurture those relationships. And so
- 20:35Speaker 1: far with this podcast, it's like I'm doing it right
- 20:37Speaker 1: now from my house. I go back there, I say
- 20:40Speaker 1: what I want to say. I have these interesting talks
- 20:42Speaker 1: and nothing's off limits, just the way I always dreamed
- 20:45Speaker 1: it could be. You know, I a couple of years ago,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I didn't feel that happy, and I wanted something that
- 20:53Speaker 1: was just pure joy because everything I did was controversial. Right,
- 20:56Speaker 1: there's always people writing nasty things, trying to take you down,
- 20:59Speaker 1: coming after you and your family. I didn't I really
- 21:03Speaker 1: didn't do much outside of like my very very small group,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and I love barbecuing, and I said, I'm going to
- 21:10Speaker 1: open a barbecue restaurant. I love doing it. No one
- 21:12Speaker 1: hates you if you make barbecue, and peoples have been
- 21:14Speaker 1: You're crazy, you can't do it. Literally, open to barbecue
- 21:17Speaker 1: restaurant in my hometown of Memphis. Well, the most joy
- 21:21Speaker 1: that I've ever gotten from a business venture, because no
- 21:24Speaker 1: one hates you, no one. It's people gather around food,
- 21:28Speaker 1: they eat. They love barbecue. There's a cult following where
- 21:31Speaker 1: people travel from California to New York and they come
- 21:33Speaker 1: and they eat and they're happy. And I've found that
- 21:37Speaker 1: what is it that you do? What is it that
- 21:39Speaker 1: people don't know that it is kind of your outlets? Now, Well,
- 21:43Speaker 1: the truth is, I have no culture in my life.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I mean, my kids are still young right now, they're eleven,
- 21:51Speaker 1: nine and seven. And what I do is I mother
- 21:53Speaker 1: my children and I see my friends. And for me,
- 21:56Speaker 1: it was a slow boil getting back to happiness because
- 22:00Speaker 1: obviously when I left NBC or, I was unhappy for
- 22:02Speaker 1: several months because I couldn't stand what was going on
- 22:06Speaker 1: with that. But then once that passed, I just I
- 22:11Speaker 1: started to see my kids again, you know. I started
- 22:12Speaker 1: to see them every night, and even while I was
- 22:15Speaker 1: at NBC, I had a lot of good time with
- 22:17Speaker 1: my kids in the evening. And then you start to
- 22:19Speaker 1: I started to do yoga, which I never did before,
- 22:21Speaker 1: and this other crazy thing called the class here in
- 22:24Speaker 1: New York City, which is so fun. What is it?
- 22:28Speaker 1: It's it's awesome. With complete this, I'm going, I'll answer you,
- 22:31Speaker 1: and so like it seeps in over time. You have
- 22:34Speaker 1: enough drinks with your friends, you do enough yoga with them,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you have enough funny lass with your kids at night
- 22:39Speaker 1: when otherwise you would have been at work on the
- 22:41Speaker 1: air and you think I feel good? Why but I
- 22:45Speaker 1: feel good? What's going on? You know? It has sort
- 22:47Speaker 1: of a natural antidepressant effect on your life. So I've
- 22:51Speaker 1: been the beneficiary of that. But okay, the class it's
- 22:54Speaker 1: closed right now. You can do it virtually, but it's
- 22:58Speaker 1: this exercise program where you go and they do like
- 23:01Speaker 1: you do aerobics, and then you get down in tone
- 23:03Speaker 1: and then you're more aerobic acting than tone. But the
- 23:06Speaker 1: interesting is because it's supposed to be kind of like therapeutic. Yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 1: well you these women are like they get down and
- 23:16Speaker 1: they work a body part. Let's saves your arms like this,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and you're doing your arms and you're doing your arms
- 23:20Speaker 1: and they it's like six minutes of your arms they're
- 23:22Speaker 1: burning and they encourage you to be like ah, I
- 23:26Speaker 1: just scream and some of the women cry. I've never
- 23:30Speaker 1: done that, but I'm there like this, like I would
- 23:33Speaker 1: be doing it to watch, like what is she gonna
- 23:35Speaker 1: do next? That's how I I'm like, oh my god,
- 23:37Speaker 1: I'm next to a crier. I'm next to a screamer,
- 23:39Speaker 1: which is like pater You know, it's the most interesting hour,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but it does work on your body, and you know,
- 23:45Speaker 1: usually and you can totally tell who's going through a
- 23:48Speaker 1: break up and who's not right totally, and of course
- 23:51Speaker 1: they all get Trump. So whenever anything happens with Trump,
- 23:53Speaker 1: it's like, we're all stressed out right now, and I'm
- 23:56Speaker 1: kind of like whatever. But it's usually some twenty two
- 23:59Speaker 1: year old who's never been through anything trying to give
- 24:01Speaker 1: you little you know, piccadillos on how to get through life.
- 24:04Speaker 1: But they have a couple of women who are really
- 24:06Speaker 1: smart and really strong, and it was kind of just
- 24:08Speaker 1: the right thing for me to be doing for a while.
- 24:10Speaker 1: New York. I gotta ask you, you're in New York,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you've seen a mass exodus of New York. I've always
- 24:16Speaker 1: said New York with the fear is if you don't
- 24:18Speaker 1: live in New York and you're not there, then you're
- 24:19Speaker 1: not in the game. The game is now dispersed all
- 24:23Speaker 1: over the country, from even Canada down to Florida to
- 24:26Speaker 1: Middle America. I have more friends that used to live
- 24:28Speaker 1: in New York that said I'll never go back after
- 24:30Speaker 1: the fear of leaving. As Meghan Kelly, ever, you're gonna
- 24:33Speaker 1: leave or you're gonna stay a New Yorker. That's a
- 24:37Speaker 1: good point I mean I talked to Erica Rovera, you
- 24:39Speaker 1: know her all those life a doll and you know
- 24:42Speaker 1: they moved to Ohio, and she said, MK, the hardest
- 24:45Speaker 1: part about leaving New York is leaving New York. You
- 24:48Speaker 1: know how you never look back. I tell you, Ben,
- 24:51Speaker 1: we seriously are taking a hard look at it for
- 24:53Speaker 1: the first time. And it's it's not really because of COVID,
- 24:55Speaker 1: because I think the city will come back from all
- 24:57Speaker 1: the nonsense inflicted on us by our mayor God, who's
- 25:01Speaker 1: just awful. But it's everything else, like defunding the police
- 25:05Speaker 1: in New York City and just the hard left turn
- 25:09Speaker 1: that it's taken. I've always been somebody who's more of
- 25:11Speaker 1: a centrist, you know. I would say I'm center right
- 25:14Speaker 1: kind of a a couple of things that I'm more a
- 25:15Speaker 1: little bit more left on. I'm not hard right or
- 25:17Speaker 1: hard left on anything. I didn't care. I could get along,
- 25:20Speaker 1: you know, Upper West Side people and bother me. You
- 25:22Speaker 1: don't have to talk about politics all the time. But
- 25:25Speaker 1: it's just gotten so intolerant in the schools, in the
- 25:29Speaker 1: community of any viewpoint that doesn't just submit to their worldview.
- 25:35Speaker 1: And I don't want to be around that all the time,
- 25:37Speaker 1: and I don't want my kids to be around that
- 25:39Speaker 1: all the time. And I don't want them growing up
- 25:41Speaker 1: in an environment that's anti American, because it's gotten very
- 25:45Speaker 1: anti American in some of these schools, you know, the
- 25:47Speaker 1: Howard's inn approach to history and how we're all oppressors.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And I just for the first time, Doug and I
- 25:53Speaker 1: are taking a hard look at what the options are. Hey,
- 25:56Speaker 1: you and I have a good friend and Ben Shapiro,
- 25:58Speaker 1: who he's making the move to Nashville, Tennessee from La
- 26:00Speaker 1: lived there his whole life. It's very much the same
- 26:02Speaker 1: thing we're seeing in California right now. Peo were saying,
- 26:05Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna make this decision. I'm done. Yeah. Well,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I mean, if the community doesn't align with your values
- 26:12Speaker 1: and they're in their face about their values, it gets
- 26:16Speaker 1: really tiresome. And even at like you know, my daughter's school,
- 26:19Speaker 1: which I love. I love the teachers there, and don't
- 26:21Speaker 1: get me wrong, but there's a tenth grader who we know,
- 26:24Speaker 1: who of course was assigned ibramex Kendy's How to be
- 26:27Speaker 1: an Anti Racist over the summer, and I asked, you know,
- 26:31Speaker 1: just out of curiosity did they assign you? You know
- 26:34Speaker 1: Coleman Hugheses takedown of that book. Who is this incredible
- 26:38Speaker 1: intellectual who's given a very honest look at race issues.
- 26:42Speaker 1: He's black, and he's been really vocal about this movement.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And really just if you haven't read Coleman's discussion of
- 26:49Speaker 1: that book, you should, of course not. They're not interested
- 26:52Speaker 1: in giving both sides like that there. They want to
- 26:56Speaker 1: say what they think is right, to get patted on
- 26:58Speaker 1: the head so that they don't get in or called
- 27:00Speaker 1: nasty names. Well, one of the liberating things about having
- 27:03Speaker 1: been called the nasty names is they don't have that
- 27:06Speaker 1: power of you any anymore, you know, they they don't
- 27:09Speaker 1: have that power. I'm I'm fine, and if you call
- 27:12Speaker 1: me nasty names, I'm still going to be standing here
- 27:15Speaker 1: saying what I believe. And then your real challenge is
- 27:18Speaker 1: to say what you believe and to try to convince me,
- 27:21Speaker 1: not punish me into submission. I got two more questions
- 27:25Speaker 1: for you before I let you go. I was I
- 27:27Speaker 1: was asked, I think one of the most interesting questions
- 27:30Speaker 1: of my career when I was doing a speaking event
- 27:32Speaker 1: the other day and the moderator said, what is the
- 27:35Speaker 1: biggest misconception you think the public has about you? Ben,
- 27:40Speaker 1: And I said, I really love people and I really
- 27:44Speaker 1: like to have fun. I don't you know, I debate
- 27:48Speaker 1: and go to war on TV whatever. But this idea
- 27:51Speaker 1: that I'm some evil, mean person, right because of what
- 27:53Speaker 1: I've done the last seven years of seeing him where
- 27:55Speaker 1: you're always being attacked and people say, oh, he must
- 27:57Speaker 1: be a jerk or whatever. I said, that's my biggest
- 28:00Speaker 1: misconception that I would love to change. You've had a
- 28:03Speaker 1: lot of articles written about you. You've had a lot,
- 28:05Speaker 1: even a movie when you were kind of going through this.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I'm out of you know, NBC. I've got this time
- 28:13Speaker 1: and you see all this and you decompress. What do
- 28:16Speaker 1: you think the biggest misconception is about you as a
- 28:19Speaker 1: person that you wish people would know is just not true. Well, similarly,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I think people who don't know me and people who
- 28:27Speaker 1: didn't watch my show, people who watch any of the
- 28:29Speaker 1: shows I've done, they know me better, but they think
- 28:33Speaker 1: the words the words I hear are ice Queen, that
- 28:35Speaker 1: I'm an ice queen, and that if they only knew you,
- 28:39Speaker 1: that's just not true. Well, I'm not I'm not sure
- 28:40Speaker 1: if I want to disabuse people of it, because I
- 28:42Speaker 1: kind of let it makes me sounding a little stronger
- 28:44Speaker 1: than I might be, but it isn't true at all.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I mean, I'm very goofy and very I have the
- 28:51Speaker 1: sense of humor of a twelve year old boy. I mean,
- 28:53Speaker 1: honestly like toilet humor. I love it so and I'm
- 28:57Speaker 1: just I don't take myself that seriously. I come from
- 28:59Speaker 1: a long line of very funny women, and this is
- 29:02Speaker 1: I laugh at everything. But as you say, you're out
- 29:07Speaker 1: there every night in the coliseum, and when you put
- 29:09Speaker 1: somebody in the coliseum and the tiger comes at them,
- 29:11Speaker 1: they're going to fight. And that also happens to be
- 29:15Speaker 1: something I know how to do well so and I
- 29:17Speaker 1: don't mind doing it. I like to fight. I am fugilistic,
- 29:21Speaker 1: so I think people just think maybe I'm not a
- 29:24Speaker 1: nice person, but I am. I'm just in the business
- 29:27Speaker 1: of fighting. When I'm working as a cable news anchor.
- 29:31Speaker 1: One of the things I'm doing on the podcast is
- 29:33Speaker 1: something I think better around it. You know something, It's
- 29:36Speaker 1: not about fighting all the time. It's about good discussions
- 29:39Speaker 1: where you learn. You feel that intellectual itch scratched while
- 29:42Speaker 1: hopefully being entertained. But make no mistake about it. If
- 29:46Speaker 1: you put somebody across from me who's saying a bunch
- 29:48Speaker 1: of nonsense or attacking me or my audience, they're gonna
- 29:51Speaker 1: get it lastly. And I know that again for people
- 29:55Speaker 1: watch her now, make sure they download your podcast. You
- 29:57Speaker 1: can subscribe, give the five stars. I want to get
- 30:00Speaker 1: one more political question in. I don't think Donald Trump
- 30:04Speaker 1: grabbed enough of the undecided in this first debate. If
- 30:09Speaker 1: I had to guess who's gonna win if the election
- 30:12Speaker 1: was today, I think there's a very good chance it
- 30:14Speaker 1: would be Biden. I want your take on that. And also,
- 30:17Speaker 1: what does Trump have to do in debates two and
- 30:19Speaker 1: three to get enough of those undecided? Because I think
- 30:23Speaker 1: we're so divided as a country. I think it's probably
- 30:25Speaker 1: forty eight forty eight, there's very little room in the middle.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You got to get above obviously that fifty, you know,
- 30:31Speaker 1: plus one to win this thing. What does Trump have
- 30:34Speaker 1: to do to get that win? I think you should
- 30:38Speaker 1: spend all the debates talking about the agenda you're going
- 30:40Speaker 1: to get if you put Joe Biden in office. You know,
- 30:43Speaker 1: at the end of the last race, when Trump won
- 30:45Speaker 1: for the first time. Handy closed out his show the
- 30:48Speaker 1: night before the election with a long indictment of Hillary
- 30:51Speaker 1: Clinton and the policies you'd be getting under Hillary Clinton,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and it was it was effective. And I think if
- 30:57Speaker 1: Trump just tries to stay on message, gets out of
- 31:01Speaker 1: his own way to try to focus like a laser
- 31:05Speaker 1: on what you're gonna get. Because if you look at
- 31:08Speaker 1: the two men and you're trying to make an assessment
- 31:10Speaker 1: of who's kinder, who's more genteel, who would people like more,
- 31:16Speaker 1: You're probably gonna go with Biden, you know, given the
- 31:19Speaker 1: way they present. But when, like last night, Biden's like
- 31:23Speaker 1: it's about unity, we need to come together, It's like, Okay,
- 31:27Speaker 1: that sounds good in principle, but the people you want
- 31:30Speaker 1: me to get together with are overturning my dinner table,
- 31:33Speaker 1: telling me if I don't take a knee, they're gonna
- 31:35Speaker 1: hurt me. So I'm not sure how we're going to
- 31:39Speaker 1: unify over stuff like that. And you're saying to unify,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you might add three more justices to the Supreme Court,
- 31:46Speaker 1: which effectively nullifies the Supreme Court. So it's going to
- 31:49Speaker 1: be tough to unify over the things like that. As
- 31:52Speaker 1: much as grand as you make it sound. So Trump's
- 31:56Speaker 1: got to zero in on that, and he better get
- 31:59Speaker 1: his examples ready for the lot of God. Make your
- 32:03Speaker 1: point A, have little one and little too ready to go.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Make your point B. Have little one and little too
- 32:08Speaker 1: ready to go, so you can back it up, back
- 32:11Speaker 1: it up. And I think that's all he should be doing.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And he should not be insulting and should never be interrupting.
- 32:16Speaker 1: He doesn't need to look presidential. He just needs to
- 32:19Speaker 1: get more substantive. Last thing I got to ask you,
- 32:22Speaker 1: will we have a new president or will we know
- 32:24Speaker 1: who the president is on election night? Or how long
- 32:27Speaker 1: do you think you could drag on? Because all the
- 32:28Speaker 1: mail in Ballad I want to date. I mean, call
- 32:31Speaker 1: me crazy. I think we'll know. I think we will know.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I think it'll be a decisive win one way or
- 32:37Speaker 1: the other. And I also think that if Trump loses,
- 32:40Speaker 1: there will be a peaceful transition of power. I do
- 32:43Speaker 1: think he'll do that, but I don't know. If ben
- 32:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't count him out. He was trailing Hillary Clinton
- 32:48Speaker 1: this time around two and I think I think a
- 32:51Speaker 1: lot of conservatives, a lot of posters, because they just
- 32:54Speaker 1: want to screw with him, and they're just not even
- 32:57Speaker 1: that okay, so yes, they want to screw with them,
- 32:59Speaker 1: but they're there are people who live like on ther
- 33:02Speaker 1: boy side, who have been shamed out of saying anything
- 33:05Speaker 1: like they're just they're just not going to tell the
- 33:07Speaker 1: truth because as soon as you say you support Trump,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you're a racist, bigot, xenophobes, sexist, transphobe. You know, I
- 33:13Speaker 1: could go on everything. Who's gonna say that? Right Like,
- 33:16Speaker 1: no one must be called that now. I'm not saying,
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, everybody who's sitting on the sidelines right now
- 33:22Speaker 1: is like that. But I wouldn't underestimate the secret Trump vote.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And I think if Trump keeps making the case about
- 33:29Speaker 1: what the alternative is, some of those on the fence,
- 33:33Speaker 1: moderate Democrats, moderate Republicans who are leaning Biden might come home.
- 33:38Speaker 1: The silent majority, I think is real. I agree with
