- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversations. It's the show that she
- 0:07Speaker 1: has the secrets of success experience firsthand by marketing and
- 0:10Speaker 1: Brandon expert Rashan McDonald. I will know he's giving me
- 0:13Speaker 1: advice on many occasions. In the case you didn't notice,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm not broke, you know, he'll be interviewing celebrity CEOs,
- 0:19Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do,
- 0:22Speaker 1: it's what he likes to share. Now it's time to
- 0:25Speaker 1: hear from my man, Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations. Here
- 0:29Speaker 1: we go. Racism is in Hollywood. Agism is in Hollywood. Stereotypes, steeotyping,
- 0:37Speaker 1: it's in Hollywood. And sexism most definitely it's in Hollywood.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But this is this is a world that we have
- 0:44Speaker 1: to that people want to participate in, and I wanted
- 0:46Speaker 1: to be a part of it, but I had to
- 0:48Speaker 1: deal with the reality of it. But also when you
- 0:50Speaker 1: look at reality, they're stereotyping. They're people who think that
- 0:54Speaker 1: this is how, this is what people want, this is
- 0:56Speaker 1: what you should look like, this is what you should be.
- 0:58Speaker 1: You should be this side, wear your hair color this color,
- 1:01Speaker 1: you should you should be this skin tone. These are
- 1:04Speaker 1: stereotypes that that can force you to sometimes throw your
- 1:08Speaker 1: hands up and walk away. On my on the call
- 1:10Speaker 1: that I'm interviewing a fantastic actor, actress Shiniko Shande. She's
- 1:15Speaker 1: one of the stars of Harlem, and as as we
- 1:17Speaker 1: wrap up this interview, I just wanted her to talk about,
- 1:20Speaker 1: you know, the growth process, being able to come to
- 1:24Speaker 1: overcome the art, to overcome the negativity, and being in
- 1:27Speaker 1: a good position. Shaniqua, I hope I didn't put you
- 1:29Speaker 1: on the spot, but I know that you're a person
- 1:31Speaker 1: who has a strong opinion and a person who's a survivor.
- 1:34Speaker 1: A survivor and the fact that you know you're not
- 1:36Speaker 1: gonna let anybody close adorn you that you can actually
- 1:38Speaker 1: open tell us about your experiences, are being able to
- 1:41Speaker 1: overcome stereotypes in Hollywood as an everyday life as well.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I keep my dreams close to me. I keep what
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm going for um surrounding me and whether that is
- 1:57Speaker 1: like watching films in case there's a low day, watching
- 2:00Speaker 1: films and music and things that are inspiring. I used
- 2:04Speaker 1: to have a dream wall when I was in my
- 2:06Speaker 1: teams and pointings as people have a vision board I
- 2:10Speaker 1: had a whole entire wall about the build again of
- 2:15Speaker 1: just all of just keeping visuals of everything that I
- 2:20Speaker 1: want in front of me and getting the muscle of
- 2:23Speaker 1: faith as practiced and as strong as possible. I think
- 2:30Speaker 1: it's sometimes silly, but I think we got it. Takes
- 2:32Speaker 1: like believing in yourself the way Kanye belief for himself,
- 2:35Speaker 1: which issues like not quite irrational but maybe a little
- 2:42Speaker 1: bit of bad. You have to be so sure of
- 2:48Speaker 1: what you can't see and what others can't see, and
- 2:51Speaker 1: they're gonna put all of their disbeliefs and fears on you.
- 2:54Speaker 1: You have to be like flick with like the oil
- 2:57Speaker 1: of self, so that stuff can fall like off of you.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And I'm realizing how much we are all used and
- 3:08Speaker 1: connected in order to help someone else be used and
- 3:11Speaker 1: be connected. And so I personally don't only do it
- 3:16Speaker 1: for myself, but I do it for younger versions of
- 3:22Speaker 1: people who love me, of curvy chocolate, other people who
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't see themselves, people who feel other people who don't
- 3:30Speaker 1: see see themselves when they see here the time, leading woman,
- 3:33Speaker 1: leading man, as many places as I can be in
- 3:37Speaker 1: as authentically as myself, taking up as much space as
- 3:41Speaker 1: I can it allows someone else to do the same,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and so you can reach a down and help bring
- 3:49Speaker 1: people up, and you can also be a vessel and
- 3:53Speaker 1: a light while also in the moment as well, and
- 3:57Speaker 1: so wanting people to see themselves one, people to feel represented,
- 4:01Speaker 1: wanting people to feel empowered enough to turn their light
- 4:05Speaker 1: on and shine as greatly as possible is one of
- 4:08Speaker 1: my huge motivators because when we can flood the gates,
- 4:13Speaker 1: then we don't need gatekeepers. So ultimately it's really really
- 4:18Speaker 1: really believing in yourself and post that dream all over place.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Talk about it now, stop, do a pep talk, as
- 4:25Speaker 1: you must, because it's we're so used to operating in
- 4:30Speaker 1: what we see that's like the reality. But what in
- 4:34Speaker 1: order to conquer anything, you have to be a little
- 4:36Speaker 1: bit outside of that reality. And so keeping your mind
- 4:40Speaker 1: and your spirit in those places will help it come
- 4:44Speaker 1: to fruition. And I believe, well, you know, it's interesting
- 4:46Speaker 1: you're saying that, just like you know, I think about
- 4:50Speaker 1: myself and sometimes, you know, the dream seems so far away, yea,
- 4:55Speaker 1: because it's like college, you know you go to as
- 4:58Speaker 1: a freshman, you know, you know, a freshman, sophomore, junior,
- 5:01Speaker 1: seeing you can graduate. But when you in entertainment and
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's like where's the end game? Because like you said earlier,
- 5:07Speaker 1: like sometimes you can audition for a show, it gets
- 5:11Speaker 1: picked up and then you get canceled. So so you
- 5:14Speaker 1: really never have that comfort zone of I made it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: You know, this is even with this show harlem Me.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You know, we're happy is on, but we don't know
- 5:24Speaker 1: whether it's going to be four or five or six seasons.
- 5:27Speaker 1: We don't know that. And so because the things can
- 5:30Speaker 1: change it or wanna brother, they were canceling shows that
- 5:33Speaker 1: have been ordered. They didn't care. They were just kicking
- 5:35Speaker 1: them out. So we don't want to do these shows.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And so so does that ever get from a name
- 5:39Speaker 1: because we talked about mental health from a standpoint of
- 5:43Speaker 1: I know, I was sitting in my room in la
- 5:45Speaker 1: and I still today, I'm not just because they're not
- 5:47Speaker 1: in enlightenment, don't mean you hit these little bumps in
- 5:49Speaker 1: the road that make you worry about paying a bill,
- 5:52Speaker 1: make you worried about it's just the right decision that
- 5:55Speaker 1: you make. Because a person who deals with a job
- 5:57Speaker 1: nine to five, they go to the job, they go
- 5:59Speaker 1: to work at a to get off of five o'clock.
- 6:01Speaker 1: They know, forty hours a week they're get paid. But
- 6:04Speaker 1: into our business, entertainment business, and you know what we're
- 6:07Speaker 1: talking about, it can be so surreal because you never
- 6:12Speaker 1: know when to be happy. Yeah, yeah, because even while
- 6:17Speaker 1: I've had moments thankfully like settled and balanced and have
- 6:23Speaker 1: done the perspectives and inner work so that I can
- 6:25Speaker 1: appreciate these moments, but previously will be on the way
- 6:30Speaker 1: to a red carpet in tears because everyone asks you
- 6:33Speaker 1: where you're doing next, and you don't know, especially when
- 6:36Speaker 1: it's a movie where you don't get the residuals, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and so wanting to get a lot of drastic work
- 6:45Speaker 1: within myself because I wanted to be able to appreciate
- 6:49Speaker 1: everything as it's happening. And guests have all of the
- 6:52Speaker 1: dreams and have ambition, and I've been called ambitious all
- 6:55Speaker 1: of my life. Be ambitious, but also be appreciative of
- 7:00Speaker 1: the work that I did right now and the work
- 7:02Speaker 1: that is showing right now, and grateful for this time
- 7:06Speaker 1: and celebrate it because I got so used to not
- 7:09Speaker 1: celebrate anything because my mom is constantly on the what's next,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and you miss all of these beautiful opportunities that way,
- 7:20Speaker 1: And what is the life that you live and you
- 7:23Speaker 1: work so hard for it, but don't celebrate it because
- 7:27Speaker 1: you're so scared of what might happen. And so definitely
- 7:32Speaker 1: I had to practice mindfulness with that. I practice a
- 7:36Speaker 1: spirit of gratitude. I journal it like I journal every
- 7:40Speaker 1: day ten things that I'm grateful for, every night, ten
- 7:42Speaker 1: things in that day that I was grateful for, because
- 7:45Speaker 1: I don't want to get so caught up in the
- 7:47Speaker 1: what's next, what's next? Oh my god, I can't the
- 7:50Speaker 1: things I can't control and miss the blessing of my work.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But to say all of that, I always has been
- 8:00Speaker 1: very clear about what I want next and very able
- 8:05Speaker 1: to bet on myself. And I think that to what's required.
- 8:09Speaker 1: When you say, oh, I got to show out what's
- 8:11Speaker 1: next music and I want my next movie. I don't
- 8:14Speaker 1: have to have it right now. I don't have to
- 8:16Speaker 1: be scared. I don't have to have it in order
- 8:18Speaker 1: to know that I will, and I don't have to
- 8:24Speaker 1: have the confirmation right now in order for me to
- 8:27Speaker 1: be joyous about today. But I want to international action
- 8:31Speaker 1: film next. And I say that with all the confidence
- 8:34Speaker 1: that I hope everyone else says that they want that
- 8:37Speaker 1: they that they want next and they're able to manifest
- 8:40Speaker 1: it for themselves. But don't I don't know how to
- 8:44Speaker 1: say it, but to don't be fearful. Because as long
- 8:47Speaker 1: as you're doing work, as long as you are because
- 8:50Speaker 1: you're face without work, faith without works is dead. So
- 8:53Speaker 1: as long as you are doing the work and being
- 8:56Speaker 1: very speciftic and intentional and sowing the seeds and going
- 9:00Speaker 1: out in networking and creating the project and other than that,
- 9:03Speaker 1: you can't control when they buy Wow. But if you're
- 9:07Speaker 1: doing your part, rejoice that you did your part today,
- 9:11Speaker 1: that you're better than you were yesterday, and know that
- 9:13Speaker 1: what you are going for is near. But now you
- 9:16Speaker 1: can have to fear if you ain't doing it. Preach, preach, preach,
- 9:20Speaker 1: do your thing, preach Siku. I really uh will to
- 9:26Speaker 1: thank you for coming on my show because I I
- 9:29Speaker 1: you know, I'm fortunately have to be able to interview
- 9:32Speaker 1: somebody like you, somebody who's honest, somebody who's willing to
- 9:35Speaker 1: share their ups and downs and their and their their
- 9:39Speaker 1: vulnerabilities because we have to realize that we're in the
- 9:42Speaker 1: business where it's all driven by emotion. We don't know
- 9:45Speaker 1: we're not. We can't predict the future, but what we do, well,
- 9:49Speaker 1: we'll give one hundred percent in a series that I
- 9:52Speaker 1: became a fan of. That's how I discovered you with
- 9:55Speaker 1: shand and I want to see you. I want to
- 9:58Speaker 1: see you in the international action movie. I'm telling you
- 10:00Speaker 1: this going to happen because guess what, you are a blessing.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And like I said, uh, the Harlem series. This past
- 10:08Speaker 1: episode ended on that big old cliffhanger, and so I
- 10:12Speaker 1: have to I'll be watching this Friday checking it out.
- 10:15Speaker 1: So congratulations on that. And if you ever have time,
- 10:19Speaker 1: look me up and well, I bring you back on
- 10:21Speaker 1: the show to promote anything, but next time, let's focus
- 10:23Speaker 1: on your music next time. Okay, yes, I'm already following you.
- 10:30Speaker 1: All right, this is Saturday. Thank you. She's funny as
- 10:32Speaker 1: the stars. There are four ladies. There are four leading
- 10:35Speaker 1: ladies on the series Hall of It's on Amazon Prime.

- 10:40Speaker 1: plays the character Angie. Angie. Please please watch the show.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's amazing and it's very funny and very relatable. For
