  In the high priesthood of Anise and Caiaphas.

  The Word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the

  wilderness, and he came into all the district around the Jordan,

  preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness

  of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the

  prophet. The voice of one crying in the
• 0:34
  wilderness. Make ready the way of the Lord,
• 0:37
  make his path straight. Every ravine will be filled, and
• 0:40
  every mountain and hill will be brought low.

  The crooked will become straight, and the rough roads
• 0:44
  smooth, and all flesh will see the salvation of God.

  So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be

  baptized by him. You brood of Vipers, who warned
• 0:54
  you to flee from the wrath to come?
• 0:57
  Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance.

  And do not begin to say to yourselves, We have Abraham for
• 1:02
  our father. For I say to you, that from
• 1:04
  these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.

  Indeed, the axe is already laid at the root of the trees, so
• 1:10
  every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and
• 1:13
  thrown into the fire. And the crowds were questioning

  him, saying, then what shall we do?

  And he would answer and say to them, The man who has two tunics
• 1:21
  is to share with him who has none, and he who has food is to
• 1:25
  do likewise. And some tax collectors also
• 1:27
  came to be baptized. And they said to him, Teacher,
• 1:30
  what shall we do? And he said to them, Collect no
• 1:33
  more than what you have been ordered to.

  Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, and what about us,
• 1:38
  what shall we do? And he said to them, do not take
• 1:42
  money from anyone by force or accuse anyone falsely, and be
• 1:46
  content with your wages. Now while the people were in a
• 1:49
  state of expectation, and all were wondering in their hearts
• 1:51
  about John as to whether he was the Christ, John answered and
• 1:55
  said to them all, As for me, I baptize you with water.
• 1:59
  But one is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not
• 2:02
  fit to untie the thong of his sandals.
• 2:04
  He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
• 2:08
  His winnowing fork is in his hand to thoroughly clear his
• 2:11
  threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he
• 2:15
  will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
• 2:18
  So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the
• 2:20
  people. But when Herod the tetrarch was
• 2:23
  reprimanded by him because of Herodias his brother's wife,
• 2:26
  because of all the wicked things which Herod had done, Herod also
• 2:30
  added this to them all. He locked John up in prison.
• 2:34
  Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also
• 2:36
  baptized. And while he was praying, heaven
• 2:39
  was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily
• 2:42
  form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven.

  You are my beloved Son, and you I am well pleased.

  When he began his ministry, Jesus himself was about 30 years
