- 2:14Speaker 1: a new podcast series that work with people from every
- 2:17Speaker 1: cross section of life and who seek inspiration and empowerment.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Block this day in February and ninth. That's the date
- 2:24Speaker 1: everybody where. He's in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment dropping
- 2:28Speaker 1: good words with Kurt Franklin on the podcast Please work
- 2:32Speaker 1: with the money making conversation. He's my good friend. He's
- 2:34Speaker 1: been in my life man since ninety four. I'm from Houston, Texas.
- 2:37Speaker 1: He's up in that Dallas Dallas Folk area, Texas. Boys.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Please welcome to Kurt Franklin. How you doing, Kurt? How
- 2:45Speaker 1: you doing man? Well, welcome to my new studio, Kurt.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'm trying to do it. Man. I'm trying to step
- 2:50Speaker 1: up man in my game. Man. No, man, you look good, brother,
- 2:53Speaker 1: look good. You got a little flex happening in that
- 2:55Speaker 1: love it. Thank you. How you been doing man? You
- 2:58Speaker 1: know we're coming out of twenty going in one. We
- 3:01Speaker 1: talked about new podcast, but let's let's step back a
- 3:03Speaker 1: little bit and talk about because it sent me through
- 3:07Speaker 1: a lot of changes, tested my faith, tested my patience,
- 3:10Speaker 1: sent me through some emotional physical change that gained weight,
- 3:13Speaker 1: loss weight, and anxieties about the COVID ninteen, My family
- 3:18Speaker 1: and my wife. She still won't go to in a
- 3:19Speaker 1: restaurant out in public. She would take to go, but
- 3:22Speaker 1: did she suspectively coming into the house. So how did
- 3:25Speaker 1: it impact your family and the people who follow you
- 3:28Speaker 1: and seek your guidance. Well, once again, man, so honored
- 3:32Speaker 1: to see you and so proud to see you continue
- 3:35Speaker 1: to just really make impact, especially in our community. Uh.
- 3:40Speaker 1: To be able to give information that that that a
- 3:43Speaker 1: lot of times was systemically hidden from us. It was
- 3:46Speaker 1: part of the plan for us to not always gather
- 3:49Speaker 1: the information or to be able to pass the information,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and for it to be transferable uh into the boardroom
- 3:58Speaker 1: all the way to the block. And I think that
- 4:00Speaker 1: that's something that is so needed. So I commention what
- 4:04Speaker 1: you're doing. Yeah, man, the pandemic, especially the fact that
- 4:10Speaker 1: there was the word I use contemporaneous, Uh, several several
- 4:15Speaker 1: pandemics happening at one time, from George Floyd to to
- 4:19Speaker 1: to to to Um too, our mothers and fathers getting
- 4:24Speaker 1: sick and dying of the disease, to all the the
- 4:28Speaker 1: the political uprising against it and so um all of
- 4:34Speaker 1: those things took a toll on me in my family
- 4:36Speaker 1: because I have a young black son, and so uh
- 4:40Speaker 1: continuing to see this, uh, this this hateful narrative that
- 4:47Speaker 1: has been America's narrative for four introvieers. It's something that
- 4:51Speaker 1: can be very daunting, you know, and and it can
- 4:55Speaker 1: really be fatiguing. And so all of these things that
- 4:58Speaker 1: happened at one time and was something that continued to
- 5:02Speaker 1: pull me. I had to start going back to the
- 5:05Speaker 1: therapy myself. You know, I'm a black man that is
- 5:08Speaker 1: very proud to uh acknowledge and promote psychological therapy, uh
- 5:14Speaker 1: psychiatry for especially black men. But it was something that
- 5:21Speaker 1: we held onto each other as as a family, and
- 5:25Speaker 1: it put me in a position where my faith really
- 5:28Speaker 1: had to be something that was not just priest but
- 5:30Speaker 1: something that was lived in real time. And so that
- 5:33Speaker 1: was another chalice to really test me, to see how
- 5:36Speaker 1: much I believed and how ruded I was and what
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was preaching and so or seeing the doing so
- 5:42Speaker 1: is that I think that the battles were all intentional,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and I think that they were all um for our
- 5:48Speaker 1: good and to reset if we would allow it to
- 5:51Speaker 1: do that. Well, the beauty of watching you you know
- 5:55Speaker 1: a popular word in word pivot. You know, if you
- 5:59Speaker 1: can't do it. I have how you do it virtual
- 6:01Speaker 1: and you know you put concerts together, you broke people
- 6:04Speaker 1: together united, you did the verses. I believe how did
- 6:07Speaker 1: all that play into you reaching your I consider you.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I'm part of your congregation. I'm part of the Kirk
- 6:13Speaker 1: Franking congregation. And I say that because I'm not I'm
- 6:16Speaker 1: not a weekly church goer. I might go to church,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, periodically. You know, I'm not saying I show
- 6:22Speaker 1: up on Eastern I showing I show up on New
- 6:24Speaker 1: Year's at Christmas. Sometimes I go with friends. But I
- 6:26Speaker 1: am a believer and I think I'm one of your
- 6:29Speaker 1: followers because the way you approach your teachings and that's
- 6:33Speaker 1: how I can use that word teachings affect me positively
- 6:37Speaker 1: and your music motivates me. Do you get it a
- 6:40Speaker 1: lot from people? Second? Say that question again? Please, I say,
- 6:45Speaker 1: do you get that a lot from people? How you
- 6:47Speaker 1: motivate them? Or a non church goers like me, you
- 6:50Speaker 1: know who believe? And I say that's a negative thing
- 6:53Speaker 1: to the church goers. No no, no, no, no no
- 6:55Speaker 1: no no no. Let me let me say that I'm
- 6:58Speaker 1: honored at whatever capath city to be able to do
- 7:01Speaker 1: life with people to to be able to be part
- 7:03Speaker 1: of people's journey for God to uh to loan me
- 7:08Speaker 1: words of music or whatever that I can borrow from Him,
- 7:11Speaker 1: to just be a catalyst. Uh. That's something that I
- 7:15Speaker 1: take a great level of humility and responsibility in UM.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And it was never my intent to try to do
- 7:23Speaker 1: something that would be left of center. That was that
- 7:27Speaker 1: was that was never my tempt. I'm I'm just really
- 7:29Speaker 1: uh someone that is very sincere by my Christian faith
- 7:32Speaker 1: as well as also uh addressing all the areas of
- 7:38Speaker 1: revisionist history that has uh sometimes white washed the African
- 7:43Speaker 1: American Uh sojourned through Christianity and what it was originally
- 7:49Speaker 1: and how Europe did not influence Africa, but African influence
- 7:53Speaker 1: Europe and uh this monotheistic approach to faith. You know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: you're really interesting out another show working with business manager
- 8:03Speaker 1: stephen A. Smith and you becoming You'll be making appearance
- 8:06Speaker 1: up on one of our shows. I don't know if
- 8:08Speaker 1: you know about it on that stephen A's World. And
- 8:11Speaker 1: I was excited that we were able to bring your
- 8:13Speaker 1: voice into the arena because you know, because Steve and
- 8:16Speaker 1: I have sat down and said, you know, that's a
- 8:18Speaker 1: voice you never see in sports, like from the perspective
- 8:21Speaker 1: of who you are and you're so unique and how
- 8:23Speaker 1: you approach you life, Kirk, and how you approach the
- 8:26Speaker 1: Gospel that I feel comfortable bringing you in that arena
- 8:29Speaker 1: because the way you talk, you just talking about a
- 8:31Speaker 1: regular person. I don't know. And like I said, when
- 8:33Speaker 1: I'm talking to you, I'm talking like I'm talking to
- 8:34Speaker 1: a friend. I'm talking to a friend. That that allows
- 8:37Speaker 1: me to be ru Sean McDonald that that I don't
- 8:40Speaker 1: feel that I I know I have flaws and you know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: I know you know, well I think that what what what?
- 8:46Speaker 1: What is interesting is that for for there to be
- 8:50Speaker 1: even a conversation of what I do to be something
- 8:54Speaker 1: that has some type of unique uh sit to ment
- 9:00Speaker 1: to it is I think it's very unfortunate because I
- 9:04Speaker 1: believe that it is the pursuit of every person. This says,
- 9:07Speaker 1: This says that they subscribe to a faith, especially a
- 9:11Speaker 1: faith in Jesus Christ, which is about humility, It is
- 9:16Speaker 1: about vulnerability. When you look at the Bible, and the
- 9:19Speaker 1: Bible that is a chorus of misfits and and and
- 9:23Speaker 1: and fail and like failing individuals consistently uh that were
- 9:29Speaker 1: the backdrop of this beautiful uh story of grace and mercy.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So man, you know, I and I think that it's
- 9:37Speaker 1: very unfortunate that that that we're not being engaged that
- 9:41Speaker 1: much in people's lives where they see a difference and
- 9:44Speaker 1: not just wanted too, but in everyone that opens to
- 9:46Speaker 1: them have to say that. And that's why for me,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I'm hoping that even with this podcast, it is just
- 9:52Speaker 1: another extension of how I can contry to speak to
- 9:56Speaker 1: incredible man like you and and other individuals in ways
- 9:59Speaker 1: that a entertaining, engaging and inspiring. It's finally here the
- 10:05Speaker 1: season of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate with
- 10:08Speaker 1: family and friends, whether you're preparing for Reis Magos or
- 10:11Speaker 1: Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass, Coals
- 10:16Speaker 1: has just what you need to make those traditions special.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Plus you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send
- 10:22Speaker 1: warm wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Support minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from
- 10:30Speaker 1: Human Nation and Shame Moisture, or treat them to everyone's
- 10:34Speaker 1: favorite active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas and
- 10:37Speaker 1: under Armor, and in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares
- 10:41Speaker 1: is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed
- 10:45Speaker 1: to the health and well being of our communities. No
- 10:48Speaker 1: matter how you celebrate, when you shop at Coal's, you're
- 10:52Speaker 1: right where you belong. So this season give with all
- 10:55Speaker 1: your heart with great gifts from Coals or coals dot com.
- 10:59Speaker 1: If I could be you and you could be me
- 11:01Speaker 1: for just one hour, if you could find a way
- 11:04Speaker 1: to get inside each other's mind, walk a mile in
- 11:08Speaker 1: my shoes, wac a mile in my shoes, walco shoes.
- 11:12Speaker 1: We've all felt left out, and for some that feeling
- 11:15Speaker 1: lasts more than a moment. We can change that. Learn
- 11:19Speaker 1: how it belonging begins with us dot org brought to
- 11:22Speaker 1: you by the ad Council. Welcome out in the machines.
- 11:29Speaker 1: What grows in the forest trees, Sure know what else
- 11:33Speaker 1: grows in the forest. Our imagination, our sense of wonder,
- 11:37Speaker 1: and our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect
- 11:40Speaker 1: from this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 11:48Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think. Find a forest
- 11:51Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I discover the forest. Dot
- 11:54Speaker 1: org brought to you by the United States Forest Service
- 11:57Speaker 1: and the AD Council. Absolute good words. What does that mean?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Good Words with Kurt Franklin, that's the podcast What does
- 12:04Speaker 1: that mean? There's just so many bad ones that out
- 12:07Speaker 1: There's just so many words of negativity, There's so many
- 12:10Speaker 1: words of division. There's so many words that are lies,
- 12:14Speaker 1: that are that that is misinformation that people build their
- 12:19Speaker 1: truth upon, and so now truth becomes arbitrary, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and and and so uh. Good words is something that
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm hoping people will tune into to be able to
- 12:31Speaker 1: get exactly that A a word of information, a word
- 12:36Speaker 1: of engagement, a word of of of inspiration, so that
- 12:41Speaker 1: they can be able to be entertained. I think that
- 12:43Speaker 1: that when you hear just just the tapestry of artists
- 12:48Speaker 1: and individuals that were interviewing, it's going to be very
- 12:52Speaker 1: unique to see their their intersection of culture and faith
- 12:57Speaker 1: and how we can help other people even invents. You know.
- 13:00Speaker 1: The beauty of this conversation's Dad. Okay, you know I've
- 13:03Speaker 1: seen you so many levels of greatness, of greatness, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: from on the stage hosting TV show. You know, I
- 13:09Speaker 1: love seeing you host TV You are you want the
- 13:11Speaker 1: little phenomenal host and I tell you that all the time.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I love seeing you on TV hosting. And and then
- 13:17Speaker 1: you got your own channel, you know and music chunel.
- 13:20Speaker 1: So why the podcast, Mr Franklin, You know you've got
- 13:24Speaker 1: all these other ways to communicate social media, You're a giant. Okay, music,
- 13:28Speaker 1: you're giant, got your own music channel. Why do we
- 13:31Speaker 1: need a podcast? It's just another extension of communication. It
- 13:36Speaker 1: is just continuing the conversation. Wherever people are, that that
- 13:40Speaker 1: wherever their ears, that should that should be the story
- 13:43Speaker 1: of the good news. That the good news should be
- 13:46Speaker 1: whatever people are, And so we don't wait for people
- 13:49Speaker 1: to come to us to get this good news. We
- 13:51Speaker 1: are ambassadors, we are we are soldiers. We we are
- 13:57Speaker 1: extensions of of His grace, his love and with good words.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I wanted to be a place where you can see
- 14:04Speaker 1: that you're not alone. I do think that there is
- 14:07Speaker 1: this dichotomy of what it looks like to be a
- 14:11Speaker 1: real person and try to hold onto real faith that
- 14:15Speaker 1: they don't always seem to be synonymous in people's journey.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And I hope that this podcast will allow you to
- 14:21Speaker 1: get interviews from other people that that that live with
- 14:24Speaker 1: that tension that try to maneuver through what what my
- 14:29Speaker 1: faith and my humanity should be and who should take
- 14:32Speaker 1: the lead, and what happens when it doesn't happen, and
- 14:35Speaker 1: and and how I'm gonna do with through that in
- 14:37Speaker 1: my career and being able to manage successible to manage
- 14:40Speaker 1: my own fears, my own anxiety. So I believe that
- 14:44Speaker 1: good words will be a a I pray a very
- 14:47Speaker 1: special uh place for people to come on that platform.
- 14:51Speaker 1: It's just a interesting thing about k I know one
- 14:54Speaker 1: side of Kurt. I know it backwards and forward. Now
- 14:58Speaker 1: there's what type of food this curve? Are you a
- 15:01Speaker 1: barbecue man? Or you are pizza man, a hamburger man?
- 15:04Speaker 1: Or you just shot? I like to stay in shape.
- 15:07Speaker 1: What are your key do? What? What are you brother?
- 15:09Speaker 1: What is I eat really clean? Try to eat really clean.
- 15:15Speaker 1: No Krispy Creme. No Crispy Creme. I haven't at Krispy
- 15:20Speaker 1: Kreme in a few years. But but but but but
- 15:24Speaker 1: now as I do have cheat days, I do have
- 15:27Speaker 1: cheap days, and in my cheap days, I do go
- 15:29Speaker 1: ham right. But but I think the problem that we
- 15:32Speaker 1: can all attest to that we we can, we can,
- 15:35Speaker 1: we can we can all be uh witnesses hallelujah? About
- 15:39Speaker 1: is that this pandemic, bro, this pandemic has messed up
- 15:43Speaker 1: everybody's food playing and because man, you know you're trying
- 15:47Speaker 1: to eat right. But you know earlier owning that pandemic,
- 15:50Speaker 1: when everything was shut down, it's like, well what am
- 15:52Speaker 1: I eating good for? I ain't gonna being from no
- 15:54Speaker 1: camera and so you just boom ate the whole grocer's
- 16:02Speaker 1: and now, okay, that's that. That's there. Now, how about
- 16:04Speaker 1: music other than gospel music? What R and B music
- 16:08Speaker 1: or rap music? Do you listen to? Kurt Franklin listen
- 16:13Speaker 1: old school or new school? I listened to everything. I
- 16:16Speaker 1: am a student of the craft. I listened to everything
- 16:20Speaker 1: from Jasmine Sullivan's new album to UH. I listened to
- 16:28Speaker 1: whatever Drake drops. I listened to whatever uh, Fred Hammond's drops.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I listened to whatever Yo Yo my drops. I listened
- 16:36Speaker 1: to whatever Adele drops. I listened to uh, anything that's
- 16:42Speaker 1: going to be either old Miles or snarky puppy. You know,
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'm I'm just a fan of music. You know. It's
- 16:50Speaker 1: a funny point by you get my car. Here's my
- 16:53Speaker 1: first three songs. Okay, because you know I'm old school, Kurt,
- 16:56Speaker 1: you know, relodies from Heaven. I gotta, I gotta you know,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I gotta have that that that if I get my
- 17:02Speaker 1: car by five o'clock in the morning coming to my office,
- 17:04Speaker 1: so that gets me on fire. Okay. Then I go
- 17:07Speaker 1: to rock Star by the Baby. That's that's my whole genre,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, my and so and so. Then I then
- 17:13Speaker 1: I go to Kim you know, uh and so so
- 17:15Speaker 1: and then I I slowed down a little bit more
- 17:18Speaker 1: with Anthony Hamilton's that's my first fourth songs in my podcast,
- 17:21Speaker 1: in my in my excuse me, in my in my
- 17:23Speaker 1: player on my truck. When I want to start rolling,
- 17:26Speaker 1: what would be your first four songs, Kurt, not putting yours?
- 17:30Speaker 1: My first fourth song, first fourth song mineus He's from
- 17:33Speaker 1: Heaven the Baby with rock Star. Then I slide into
- 17:37Speaker 1: Kim like Sharlene from Anthony Hamilton and my first four songs.
- 17:43Speaker 1: As I can't say that I am that that consistent
- 17:47Speaker 1: um in in that process. You know, it's some mornings
- 17:51Speaker 1: I'll listened to you know, a a a teaching podcast.
- 17:56Speaker 1: The first thing in the morning, you know, is I
- 17:57Speaker 1: may listen to some old school you know Walter Hawkins,
- 18:01Speaker 1: Uh you know, uh Undercracker or is I mean listen
- 18:05Speaker 1: to something to give me lit my way to the gym?
- 18:08Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. It could be a Drake record,
- 18:11Speaker 1: It could be a a you know every being rock
- 18:14Speaker 1: Kim record. It could be you know, you know jay
- 18:17Speaker 1: Z record. There you go? You know? So so you
- 18:21Speaker 1: know it is that I have a I have a
- 18:24Speaker 1: big appetite for music man, and one doesn't win over
- 18:28Speaker 1: the other. Well, you know, when when we look at
- 18:30Speaker 1: good words for Kurt Franklin and then the press really
- 18:32Speaker 1: came out, they mentioned your interviewer for Real, you know,
- 18:35Speaker 1: just to give a sense of the type of talent
- 18:38Speaker 1: or celebrity level that will be part of the show.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Why is it important to for individuals like for Real
- 18:44Speaker 1: to not only discuss their faith but also tell the
- 18:47Speaker 1: side of the story that's not entertainment driven or selling
- 18:50Speaker 1: albums and movies or things like that. Why isn't that important? Well,
- 18:55Speaker 1: I think that's even more important now because there were
- 18:59Speaker 1: we are at this crossroads that in in American culture,
- 19:05Speaker 1: American society, and even in our belief systems, that that
- 19:09Speaker 1: that that these that during this pandemic is going to
- 19:12Speaker 1: change the trajectory of how people process what is real
- 19:16Speaker 1: and what matters. And a lot of times the people
- 19:19Speaker 1: that have impacted culture more than others may be the
- 19:23Speaker 1: greater microphone of how to be able to navigate through
- 19:27Speaker 1: those things, as well as being able to give another
- 19:30Speaker 1: side so that we can be able to start we
- 19:33Speaker 1: can be able to start fixing a lot of the
- 19:36Speaker 1: holes that have been in what people consider organized religion,
- 19:40Speaker 1: that we can pull down some of the barriers so
- 19:42Speaker 1: that we can be able to even uh uh even
- 19:47Speaker 1: try to articulate more misinformation that has been passed down
- 19:51Speaker 1: generationally to people of color. And and to be able
- 19:55Speaker 1: to also unpack the weaponization of Christianity, to be able
- 19:58Speaker 1: to uh to uh understand that Western Christianity and the
- 20:03Speaker 1: teachings of Jesus Christ are not synonymous necessarily and so
- 20:07Speaker 1: uh and and and then also how people maneuver through
- 20:11Speaker 1: their temptations of successful Gussie. There's trauma already being an
- 20:15Speaker 1: African American, but there's an extra layer of trauma when
- 20:18Speaker 1: you become successful. Success brings its own level of trauma.
- 20:23Speaker 1: When you say repoonization of Christianity, what exactly you referencing
- 20:28Speaker 1: in that and not trying to be negative. I'm just
- 20:30Speaker 1: just trying to get a clear definition of what you
- 20:32Speaker 1: mean to say that. Oh yeah, well, well well when
- 20:35Speaker 1: you look at um, when you look at the colonizes,
- 20:38Speaker 1: everything was was was from the from the bibliocentric lens
- 20:44Speaker 1: of misinformation and revisionist history, where where where it was
- 20:50Speaker 1: weaponized to uh keep people marginalized, to keep people oppressed,
- 20:55Speaker 1: to uh, to even create a misogynistic tone to women roles,
- 21:00Speaker 1: even in Christianity. And so when you weaponize something, it,
- 21:05Speaker 1: uh you become a very authoritarian in your approach to
- 21:10Speaker 1: what God is, because God will be whatever it's beneficial
- 21:14Speaker 1: to the one that holds the weapon or or or
- 21:18Speaker 1: the tool that could be used for good or bad.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It's almost like fire. Fire is good for cooking, it's
- 21:23Speaker 1: good for being able to keep people warm and comfortable,
- 21:26Speaker 1: but out of control, they can burn down the city.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And so that's what Christianity throughout history, from from the
- 21:33Speaker 1: Crusades onto the trans Atlantic slave trade, there were times
- 21:37Speaker 1: where where you had you even had chaplains on the
- 21:42Speaker 1: slave ship, absolutely had white chaplains on on the slaveship.
- 21:47Speaker 1: So so so that does not mean that there's something
- 21:52Speaker 1: uh intuitively wrong with with the message of Jesus Christ.
- 21:57Speaker 1: It's been something uh intrinsically wrong with a lot of
- 22:03Speaker 1: those that have been the microphones to be able to
- 22:07Speaker 1: proclaim that fing adoption of teens from foster care is
- 22:10Speaker 1: a topic not enough people know about, and we're here
- 22:13Speaker 1: to change that. I'm April Denuity, host of the new

- 22:39Speaker 1: your children's eyes to see the true magic of a forest.
- 22:42Speaker 1: It's a storybook world for them. You look and see
- 22:46Speaker 1: a tree. They see the wrinkled face of a wizard
- 22:49Speaker 1: with arms outstretched to the sky. They see treasure and pebbles.
- 22:53Speaker 1: They see a windy path that could lead to adventure,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and they see you. They're fearless. Guide this fascinating world.

- 23:13Speaker 1: the forest. Our imagination, our sense of wonder, and our
- 23:17Speaker 1: family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect from this
- 23:23Speaker 1: and connect with this, we reconnect with each other. The
- 23:28Speaker 1: forest is closer than you think. Find a forest near
- 23:31Speaker 1: you and start exploring. I Discover the Forest dot org.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Brought to you by the United States Forest Service and
- 23:37Speaker 1: the AD Council. You know when I when I when
- 23:40Speaker 1: I talk about faith, the fifth song that I have,
- 23:42Speaker 1: all that I listened to him. We lost him in
- 23:46Speaker 1: a friend of our you and my uh something about
- 23:49Speaker 1: the name Jesus and you know um and I remember
- 23:54Speaker 1: when I interviewed I think the second time he was
- 23:56Speaker 1: on my show. I didn't realize you wrote that song.
- 23:58Speaker 1: He said, I'm sure, yeah, I wrote it, And and
- 24:02Speaker 1: that that you know, whenever I talking that that song
- 24:04Speaker 1: is so important to me, whenever you know somebody's down, kirt,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I sent it to him. Somebody has a depth in
- 24:12Speaker 1: the family. I sent it to him. They don't know
- 24:15Speaker 1: how to find direction in their life. I sent it
- 24:18Speaker 1: to him, Um give us the thought process in writing
- 24:23Speaker 1: a song like that, and didn't get it produced and
- 24:26Speaker 1: having an amazing artist like him, you know, And it's been,
- 24:29Speaker 1: it's been. It's been remade by a couple of young
- 24:31Speaker 1: ladies and I've heard that version. I like their version too.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It was fantastic. And so talk about that process behind
- 24:37Speaker 1: that song, well, you know, it's not much of a
- 24:43Speaker 1: a headline story, uh the the the inception of that song.
- 24:52Speaker 1: It was just a song that dropped in my head
- 24:55Speaker 1: that I that I thought would be a nice moment
- 24:58Speaker 1: and reached out to Wrench Allen Um and men of
- 25:02Speaker 1: standard because I wanted to take the old school and
- 25:04Speaker 1: new school and brought together. And it was just so
- 25:08Speaker 1: it's a song God gave me, and and the genius
- 25:12Speaker 1: of Rant Saleen watching him coming to the studio and
- 25:15Speaker 1: to be so so much of a surgeon, like he's
- 25:19Speaker 1: a surgeon behind them like and and and to be
- 25:23Speaker 1: able to see him be uh so fluid in his
- 25:27Speaker 1: gift was a beautiful thing to the whole. And so
- 25:32Speaker 1: it was a moment that I'll never forget. And it
- 25:34Speaker 1: was and it was, it was it was a song
- 25:37Speaker 1: that would have never known at the time that would
- 25:39Speaker 1: have impacted people and touch people the way it did,
- 25:42Speaker 1: would have never would have never seen that coming. Well,
- 25:45Speaker 1: you know, I saw the story that rants came into
- 25:47Speaker 1: my life of BT Celebration of Gospels. You know Steve Harvin,
- 25:51Speaker 1: that was there every year with you guys, and it
- 25:53Speaker 1: was he performed on stage with you, And that was
- 25:56Speaker 1: the first time I heard it. Is it's something magical
- 25:58Speaker 1: because we hear music, but when you hear a song
- 26:01Speaker 1: from the very first word and it stays with you,
- 26:05Speaker 1: and it builds with you, and it takes you through
- 26:07Speaker 1: these emotional up and downs. And at the end of
- 26:10Speaker 1: that song, when I heard it lied in Los Angeles
- 26:13Speaker 1: doing that taping, I was in tears. And and it
- 26:17Speaker 1: wasn't a negative tearing. It was a positivity of of
- 26:21Speaker 1: of an awakening inside of yourself. Because I'll just tell
- 26:25Speaker 1: you something, Kirk. When I talk to you, man, it's
- 26:26Speaker 1: always you know, you're such a gifted young man. And
- 26:29Speaker 1: I say young because I'm older than you, and and
- 26:32Speaker 1: I say that because sometimes you're so humble that the
- 26:35Speaker 1: impact you make on people of all ages needs to
- 26:38Speaker 1: be under someways glorified because you change people. You change
- 26:43Speaker 1: the way I get up, You change with my family,
- 26:44Speaker 1: impacts my wife, she goes to church. I don't you
- 26:47Speaker 1: know my daughter gonna go to church and so. But
- 26:50Speaker 1: that doesn't mean I I failed to believe in God lesser.
- 26:55Speaker 1: But I know that the story I'm trying to get
- 26:57Speaker 1: you allow me to tell it my way, and that's
- 26:59Speaker 1: what you're doing with UH. I believe when you're dropping
- 27:02Speaker 1: this podcast good Words with Kurt Franklin, you're it's just
- 27:06Speaker 1: another expression of communication, like you saying, reaching people and
- 27:09Speaker 1: telling them your story and then sharing other stories, kind
- 27:12Speaker 1: of like when I'm doing with money making conversations, I'm
- 27:14Speaker 1: allowing them to talk a story, but in this lane,
- 27:17Speaker 1: And that's really important, isn't it, Kurt? Exactly? And thank
- 27:21Speaker 1: you again. And I'm just extremely appreciative to be able
- 27:25Speaker 1: to be part of just a a fragment of the
- 27:30Speaker 1: journey that people's UH lives continue to take them on,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and that the music has allowed them to be able
- 27:38Speaker 1: to see a greater God in the midst of some
- 27:41Speaker 1: of the deepest and darkest days that they may go through.
- 27:44Speaker 1: And and even with the podcast, it is there needs
- 27:48Speaker 1: to be so many different conversations that can happen at
- 27:51Speaker 1: the same time that that every platform does not give
- 27:55Speaker 1: you the freedom to have that conversation where there may
- 27:58Speaker 1: be more intellectual conversations that can happen through the podcast,
- 28:02Speaker 1: that may be a lot more foolishness that I can
- 28:05Speaker 1: have fun with and enjoyed din the podcast. And so, uh,
- 28:08Speaker 1: it just gives you a liberty that you don't have
- 28:11Speaker 1: on stage. It gives you a liberty then you don't
- 28:14Speaker 1: have in a recording studio. You are being able to
- 28:18Speaker 1: now engage a different side of a person's life that
- 28:21Speaker 1: they did not really see their faith that because you
- 28:24Speaker 1: know some people's faith a lot of times it's still
- 28:27Speaker 1: like a spare tire. It's something that they pull they
- 28:31Speaker 1: something they pull out when they need it, and it's
- 28:35Speaker 1: not the fabric of their daily existence. So they get
- 28:40Speaker 1: frustrated when they see it not work and something like
- 28:42Speaker 1: well where is God? God don't work? I don't see
- 28:44Speaker 1: And it's like, well, it's very difficult to be able
- 28:47Speaker 1: to tap into what God is and what he will
- 28:51Speaker 1: do if it's only a non one one situation that
- 28:57Speaker 1: he continues to be postured in. When it comes to
- 29:00Speaker 1: your life, and so hopefully that even good worse will
- 29:03Speaker 1: let you hear from other people that you don't see
- 29:06Speaker 1: in church all the time. You don't see in church
- 29:08Speaker 1: platforms give you a lens of where they are, the good,
- 29:13Speaker 1: the bad, the ugly in their life and where God
- 29:15Speaker 1: has stood in Wow. So we last year because of
- 29:19Speaker 1: the pandemic, you couldn't do your all do a festival.
- 29:21Speaker 1: How are we looking this year? I know there's Texas,
- 29:25Speaker 1: that's where you're based with the festival. How is it
- 29:27Speaker 1: looking at something you produce that you book it is
- 29:31Speaker 1: all out of your production company, which I love to
- 29:32Speaker 1: talk about. We talked about that last time. Becoming a
- 29:35Speaker 1: true entrepreneur. Uh, controlling your destiny? How does it look
- 29:39Speaker 1: for oh man, you know we we we will see
- 29:44Speaker 1: where God leaves. I'm I have learned in my time
- 29:49Speaker 1: on this earth. You know will while I'm visiting, is
- 29:54Speaker 1: that you can make the plans, but God at times last,
- 29:58Speaker 1: you know, And so you have to make sure that
- 30:01Speaker 1: you are surrendering your dreams and making sure that it's
- 30:06Speaker 1: because here's the thing that I really believe about my
- 30:08Speaker 1: faith and again I'm not on your sure to try
- 30:11Speaker 1: to proselytize. I'm here because I am a product of grace,
- 30:16Speaker 1: of God's grace and mercy. That's the only reason why
- 30:18Speaker 1: I get to be part of great platforms like this,
- 30:21Speaker 1: you know. And because I'm cute, even though I am cute,
- 30:24Speaker 1: that is not what God what That That that that
- 30:30Speaker 1: that we have to understand man, that what we believe
- 30:33Speaker 1: should be transferable, That it shouldn't be something that just
- 30:37Speaker 1: stays with us and dies with us. That it should
- 30:41Speaker 1: be something that can be part of the fragment of
- 30:45Speaker 1: people's daily existence. And we haven't done that well as
- 30:49Speaker 1: as people of faith. We've only made Sunday Morning and
- 30:52Speaker 1: a Sunday suit the epitome of what believing is. And
- 30:56Speaker 1: so I'm hoping that with everything that I'm able to do,
- 31:00Speaker 1: whatever God calls me for this year is that I
- 31:04Speaker 1: want to make sure that my dreams and our distractions,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and so that the only way to know how to
- 31:08Speaker 1: do that is to take my dreams and filter them
- 31:11Speaker 1: through my faith. We know the interesting you. I'm gonna
- 31:14Speaker 1: make a little shift here. Melanie Holt was on my
- 31:17Speaker 1: show recently, and uh, she hosts a show called Behind
- 31:20Speaker 1: every Man and You. On the show and it was
- 31:23Speaker 1: and you know I get I get access to everything.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Now you know I'm moving up in the food chain,
- 31:28Speaker 1: not Kurt. You know they get later early for everybody. Everything.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Now you're on there with your your beautiful wife. Just
- 31:34Speaker 1: like I mentioned my wife and how important she is
- 31:36Speaker 1: to me, how I was important to do a show
- 31:38Speaker 1: like that because behind every man tells us her story
- 31:42Speaker 1: and the impact that she has on your life and
- 31:44Speaker 1: that you have on your life and the faith as well.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Why was it important to do that show with your wife? Well,
- 31:50Speaker 1: it was just important for me for people to get
- 31:52Speaker 1: a chance, Like I'm always looking for moments to showcase
- 31:55Speaker 1: and celebrate this incredible woman who has always lifted me
- 32:00Speaker 1: up and everybody, uh not at all times. You got
- 32:04Speaker 1: a chance to see Tanny, and I want to be
- 32:06Speaker 1: able to celebrate her when when there's a platform that
- 32:09Speaker 1: comes my way. Is because I want people to understand
- 32:12Speaker 1: that I am what I am because of her. It
- 32:17Speaker 1: is God using her as the conduit that that that
- 32:21Speaker 1: that all his blessings slow. Because if I was a
- 32:24Speaker 1: single man, I probably would not be the most integral
- 32:27Speaker 1: or the most responsible because I would probably still be
- 32:31Speaker 1: doing with single man at times do, and so a
- 32:34Speaker 1: lot of times when you live that life, you are
- 32:37Speaker 1: blocking the conversation and the covering that God wants to
- 32:43Speaker 1: give us, because he's not going to give you the
- 32:46Speaker 1: keys to something that you're going to drive into a wall. Wow.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Good works for good words with with Kirk Franklin. That's right,
- 32:54Speaker 1: just on podcast platforms including the Apple, Spotify, and Stitcher. Uh, Kurt,
- 33:00Speaker 1: thank you for coming on the show. Man. You know,
- 33:01Speaker 1: I always appreciate you man taking the time to talk
- 33:03Speaker 1: to Rashan McDonald man because uh, I know you're busy. Man,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I'm just trying to I'm just trying to be thank you,
- 33:12Speaker 1: thank you, But you moreing that man. You inspire me
- 33:14Speaker 1: and that and that's why whatever you come on this
- 33:16Speaker 1: I gotta remind you. Man. You know, I know, I
- 33:18Speaker 1: know people look at me as being very successful, but
- 33:21Speaker 1: behind that success and like I said, in a certain situation,
- 33:24Speaker 1: there is a good woman. But they're also good friends.
- 33:28Speaker 1: And uh and your friend and I know that, uh
- 33:30Speaker 1: your music. May you may not be talking to me
- 33:33Speaker 1: as an individual, but brother, you've saved me a many
- 33:37Speaker 1: a day. Man, You've saved me when I'm on the
- 33:39Speaker 1: road and I didn't know where to go. You've saved
- 33:42Speaker 1: me when I've been down and thought I was the
- 33:43Speaker 1: only person in this world. You've saved me. When I've
- 33:46Speaker 1: been successful, You've saved me. And a lot of people
- 33:48Speaker 1: say successful, how can you save you? Because sometimes you
- 33:50Speaker 1: need direction when you're successful, because you don't have nowhere
- 33:53Speaker 1: to turn. And so that's the layers of life that
- 33:55Speaker 1: you've given me. Since you've been into my life, been
- 33:58Speaker 1: in my life, and I've been there. We've done TV
- 34:00Speaker 1: shows together, we've done concerts together, we've done radio shows together.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So I know the relationship we have is beyond just music.
- 34:07Speaker 1: And thank you again for coming on Money Making Conversation
