- 0:40Speaker 1: States Air Force. He is a president CEO of C
- 0:43Speaker 1: M C. M. Lee Junior Companies, LLC, Founder of Persist Institute,
- 0:49Speaker 1: author and international speaker. Please welcome to the Morning Making
- 0:52Speaker 1: two Punty Making Conversation. Dr Clarence Lee Jr. Happy to
- 0:57Speaker 1: be very happy to be on. How you doing, sir,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'm doing I'm gonn try to stay close to this, Mike,
- 1:01Speaker 1: because UH want you guys to hear me. You hear me.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You can do what you do for a living. That yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 1: absolutely so tell me your little background about you. Where
- 1:08Speaker 1: you originally from. Riggie from Kansas City, Missouri. Barbecue country,
- 1:12Speaker 1: absolutely Gates Barbecue. Come on, yeah, Riggie from Kansas City, Missouri. Um.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Moved around a ton as a kid. My dad was
- 1:21Speaker 1: My dad's a marine, So I moved around a bunch.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Um actually lived in Marietta for a while. Um, But
- 1:27Speaker 1: first dream wanted to be a basketball player, So I
- 1:29Speaker 1: played basketball in college. My mom is a nurse. You
- 1:31Speaker 1: introduced me to medicine really early, and Um, I decided
- 1:35Speaker 1: to want to be a doc and I started going
- 1:37Speaker 1: on that journey. Man, it took me a while. Um,
- 1:40Speaker 1: but yeah, I'm practicing physician now. During the Air Force
- 1:42Speaker 1: got the fly jets, I've been able to do some
- 1:44Speaker 1: cool stuff. So so stuff I can't do. The doctor
- 1:49Speaker 1: that's you know, believe me. You know that's something I
- 1:52Speaker 1: could That's a that's a skill that I cannot do.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And flying airplanes, yeah, I cannot man flight simulated. I
- 1:59Speaker 1: crashed every time. So it's you know, it's it's it's
- 2:02Speaker 1: a lot of fun. Um, you know, I had to
- 2:04Speaker 1: do it. Yeah, I had had a great time as
- 2:06Speaker 1: a flight surgeon. A lot of people don't know what
- 2:08Speaker 1: flight surgeons do. Uh, it's basically the doctor that flew
- 2:11Speaker 1: in the back with the pilots in the back of
- 2:14Speaker 1: the jet just make sure that they uh physically could
- 2:18Speaker 1: do their jobs. So I was the provider that could
- 2:21Speaker 1: say when it was a go or no go, when
- 2:23Speaker 1: a pilot could go or they couldn't go. And so
- 2:25Speaker 1: in order to make that decision, I needed to be
- 2:28Speaker 1: able to fly. And what do you think of your life?
- 2:30Speaker 1: When you look at your life, you look in the mirror.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Because I do that to myself. I always self estimate myself,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know, because I think that's important. A lot of
- 2:37Speaker 1: people don't do that. Sometimes when I leave my home
- 2:39Speaker 1: in the morning, I just walk out into the yard,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, and I just grab a few moments for
- 2:45Speaker 1: myself to understand where I'm at. How do you how
- 2:48Speaker 1: do you do that in your life? You know? Before
- 2:49Speaker 1: we start getting into breaking down story, I just feel
- 2:53Speaker 1: I feel grateful. Um. I think my my life, my
- 2:57Speaker 1: life story is one of persistence, which is why I
- 2:59Speaker 1: push a lot that in my messaging. UM. But just
- 3:02Speaker 1: believing in the vision that I have for myself and
- 3:05Speaker 1: and really not taking no for an answer, and sometimes
- 3:08Speaker 1: being years of of nose. So just thankful for the
- 3:13Speaker 1: opportunity of the platforms that I have now and understanding
- 3:16Speaker 1: the importance of encouraging other people along the way, because
- 3:20Speaker 1: people get discouraged, stuff doesn't go the way it needs
- 3:22Speaker 1: to go. But just just gratitude is probably how I
- 3:25Speaker 1: see overall my life. The Air Force. The Air Force, um,
- 3:29Speaker 1: a couple of reasons. So um. My dad was marine,
- 3:32Speaker 1: so um, we didn't really come from a lot. And
- 3:35Speaker 1: so I saw the distinctive difference between my father and
- 3:40Speaker 1: everyone else in my family, and to me that the
- 3:43Speaker 1: answer was the military. So the way he dressed, the
- 3:46Speaker 1: way he spoke, the way he carried himself, UM, I
- 3:48Speaker 1: knew it was a distinct difference. He he had an
- 3:50Speaker 1: edge and I wanted it. Um and so um. When
- 3:54Speaker 1: when it was time for me to go to medical school,
- 3:56Speaker 1: I got accepted to medical school, and uh I had
- 4:00Speaker 1: director University in Philadelphia. Um, and uh I had my
- 4:03Speaker 1: I had my daughter on the way, and I tried
- 4:06Speaker 1: to figure out, how can I keep going after my
- 4:09Speaker 1: dream being a full time student going to medical school
- 4:11Speaker 1: and still take care of my daughter and provide for her.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And so I applied for a scholarship with the with
- 4:17Speaker 1: the Air Force Health Professional Scholarship Program, and I got
- 4:20Speaker 1: a scholarship that pay for my school, gave me a tuition,
- 4:23Speaker 1: UM pay for my tuition, gave me a stipend while
- 4:25Speaker 1: I was in school, and and uh yeah, I was
- 4:27Speaker 1: able to do it. So so military has been good
- 4:30Speaker 1: to you. And absolutely absolutely so. If a young man
- 4:33Speaker 1: was listening to a young female was listening, or a
- 4:35Speaker 1: person not even young and wanted to was sitting that
- 4:38Speaker 1: there trying to find out a place in the life,
- 4:40Speaker 1: what advice would you give them. Yeah, it's an amazing question.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I would say, it just depends on where you're coming from. Um.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And so I like to I like to explain the
- 4:49Speaker 1: military as as a as a as a hand up.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So it it's the ability. It gives you the opportunity
- 4:55Speaker 1: to do things that for me, I didn't travel, I
- 4:58Speaker 1: never I never left the country. I didn't have a
- 5:00Speaker 1: passport growing up, like I stay where I lived, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: so the military offered me opportunity. So like the word
- 5:07Speaker 1: I would explain to people is you have to understand opportunity.
- 5:10Speaker 1: If somebody gives you an opportunity training, they pay for
- 5:12Speaker 1: medical school, they play for for business, school. UH gave
- 5:15Speaker 1: me opportunity to to to fly jet something that I
- 5:18Speaker 1: never would do. So for me, it was opportunity. Now
- 5:21Speaker 1: they're sacrifice that came with that. I deployed five times.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But it depends on where you're coming from. If you're
- 5:26Speaker 1: looking for opportunity, you're looking to go up, it's it's
- 5:29Speaker 1: a it's a feasible option for some folks. You know,
- 5:33Speaker 1: it's really interesting. I'm fortunately because I oversee the marketing
- 5:36Speaker 1: for their National Guard and all fit the States and
- 5:39Speaker 1: three territories and Washington, d C. And it's of all
- 5:42Speaker 1: the things I've done in my life, is the most
- 5:44Speaker 1: um proud moment because I feel for the first time
- 5:48Speaker 1: I've been successful entertainment as an entrepreneur. But actually I'm
- 5:51Speaker 1: doing something for the country. I'm protecting not only my
- 5:54Speaker 1: family but people I don't know. And I'm protecting the
- 5:56Speaker 1: country with my skill set, and that is to get
- 5:59Speaker 1: the best available recruits to join the our National Guard
- 6:01Speaker 1: or retain them into their National Guard. What I you know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: like this past weekend, UM, the national football leave made
- 6:10Speaker 1: a big deal. You get a lot of returning veterans
- 6:13Speaker 1: UH surprising their family members. So when you when you
- 6:18Speaker 1: see that, where do you stand emotionally and all of that. Um,
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's it's uh services service. So you know, one of
- 6:26Speaker 1: the core values there forces service before self and so
- 6:29Speaker 1: understanding that there's a rank and file structure, UM, and
- 6:33Speaker 1: you're you are there to serve. You have a commanding officer,
- 6:36Speaker 1: there's there's some service for you to do, and being
- 6:38Speaker 1: able to put your own personal needs or cares on
- 6:41Speaker 1: the back burning is just ingrained in what you do. UM.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And so when I see things like that, it just
- 6:47Speaker 1: makes me. I don't know, it's it's it's it's an
- 6:51Speaker 1: emotional time because you leave your family, you're gone for
- 6:54Speaker 1: a long time, you go into harm's way. People as
- 6:57Speaker 1: people all scared and texting you you okay you know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and I'm like, yeah, I'm cool. UM. So it's it's
- 7:08Speaker 1: a it's a it's a it's a roller coaster. I mean,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you're excited when you're there because you're trained, you know
- 7:13Speaker 1: what you're doing. UM. But but yeah, it's say you
- 7:16Speaker 1: leave your family and it's it's emotional. I know you
- 7:18Speaker 1: say that. My younger, my youngest brother, he was in
- 7:21Speaker 1: iracky and then when it was dropping the you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: the parts and bombs, and so I was worried, you know,
- 7:28Speaker 1: and so and the communication was none so so it
- 7:34Speaker 1: really you know that that that moment in my life
- 7:36Speaker 1: with him is always stuck with me, you know, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: I always respect and and but but the thing about
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna say you guys, because it's such a natural
- 7:45Speaker 1: part of your life that you don't realize sometimes with
- 7:50Speaker 1: the power of love and respect that you have from
- 7:55Speaker 1: everyday people, you know, it's it's amazing. So I wanted
- 7:59Speaker 1: to definitely get that out about that because because I
- 8:02Speaker 1: think that, uh, because this is not the first time,
- 8:04Speaker 1: by the last time we're gonna talk. Because that's what
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'm talking about, you know, because of the fact that
- 8:10Speaker 1: you know, I'm fortunate on my show that I can
- 8:14Speaker 1: pick and choose who I want on my show. It's
- 8:16Speaker 1: gotten to that point now and I'm trying to put
- 8:18Speaker 1: people in in the lanes of influencing that the people
- 8:22Speaker 1: can get something from that. And this is the value
- 8:24Speaker 1: system that you have gained in your life because you
- 8:26Speaker 1: said earlier, Hey, you know, I really didn't come from much.
- 8:29Speaker 1: If dad was in the marine, my mom was a nurse.
- 8:32Speaker 1: But man, you're a doctor and you few jets. Where
- 8:37Speaker 1: did that lead come? My man? You know, you know, yeah, um,
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's funny. You know. I always tell people, as long
- 8:47Speaker 1: as you have a vision and you're going after it,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you can't go wrong. And so for me, my vision
- 8:51Speaker 1: coming after medical coming out of medical school, was that
- 8:53Speaker 1: I wanted to be a surgeon. So I went into
- 8:55Speaker 1: the surgery training program and after a year I realized
- 8:58Speaker 1: that it wasn't for me. And so I went all
- 9:02Speaker 1: this way, I'm pursuing my dream and I'm going after it.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And I'm like, you know, surgery is not not it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I love operating, but the lifestyle wasn't one for me.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And so I went to my commander. I said, hey,
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do this right, and he's like, well,
- 9:16Speaker 1: here's some of your options. And they came to recruit
- 9:19Speaker 1: for fly surgeons and they were like, hey, we're gonna
- 9:21Speaker 1: teach you how to fly jets. I was like, okay,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I'm so I don't need to hear anything else. That's
- 9:26Speaker 1: got stop you teaching me how to fly jets. I've
- 9:29Speaker 1: I've I've looked at these dolls buttons, like fifteen buttons
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know, warning you know, the danger were Wobinson what's
- 9:39Speaker 1: going on here? Yeah? Yeah, tash saturation. Yeah yeah, you
- 9:45Speaker 1: just trivializing it, you know, like well, you know, just
- 9:48Speaker 1: tast separation. I was a doctor. I didn't feel like
- 9:51Speaker 1: watching the blood. So now I'm over a flight surgeon,
- 9:54Speaker 1: didn't go have a flying jets. I'm a decorated veteran. Yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 1: ground ground school was awesome. I I think for me
- 10:03Speaker 1: it was it was something exciting. Um, but I was
- 10:07Speaker 1: always impressed with pilots. I was just always impressed with
- 10:10Speaker 1: their ability to handle themselves and in those situations right
- 10:15Speaker 1: at high speeds and so, um, I just wanted it.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I wanted it. And then in your training, UM, it's
- 10:20Speaker 1: it's funny because some of the some of the like
- 10:22Speaker 1: emergency procedures that you have to learn in order to
- 10:25Speaker 1: in order to pass that you have to have a percent.
- 10:27Speaker 1: You can't miss anything. So there's steps on the checklist
- 10:31Speaker 1: you can't If you miss them, you're dead, right, So
- 10:33Speaker 1: I always say you can't park a playing on the cloudy.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So you know, just just that standard of training. Um,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, I enjoyed it. It was it was it
- 10:42Speaker 1: was a blessing. It was an opportunity to do it,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and it was cool. Now we're gonna the next break,
- 10:46Speaker 1: we're gonna come up. We're gonna talk about you being
- 10:47Speaker 1: an author, and we're gonna talk about your organizations Persist.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But the number one thing that what do you when
- 10:53Speaker 1: you come on? When you come up? What was the
- 10:54Speaker 1: number one thing you want to get out about you
- 10:56Speaker 1: coming on this show? Um? I think service, service and humility,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'd probably say, or the two screams that I would
- 11:05Speaker 1: pushing and I try to try to embody that everywhere
- 11:07Speaker 1: I go and um, And I think those are the
- 11:09Speaker 1: key things that have helped me along my way because
- 11:12Speaker 1: of the fact that and definitely TV in your future.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'll be open to the he goes, that's why we're
- 11:19Speaker 1: sitting next to each other. Hey, that's why we're gonna
- 11:21Speaker 1: see each a little bit more. What like I said,
- 11:22Speaker 1: he's over, were making me look ugly? My guess. He's
- 11:27Speaker 1: a tenure Decorative War editor of the United States Air Force.
- 11:30Speaker 1: He's president of CEEO cm Lee Jr. Corporate Companies, LLC,
- 11:34Speaker 1: Founder Persist Institute. We're gonna be back talking about man,
- 11:37Speaker 1: are you are special dudes? And we're to have your
- 11:40Speaker 1: money making conversations. This is Rashan McDonald, I'll just reshoned McDonald.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You're listening to your money making Conversation. I've been fortunate
- 11:50Speaker 1: to be able to build this brand through our heart
- 11:52Speaker 1: radio podcast see XM channel one forty one. I'm on
- 11:56Speaker 1: all HBCU campuses Elizabeth City or College and I picked
- 12:00Speaker 1: up my show. Um. When I look at what I've
- 12:03Speaker 1: done in my life and what I'm trying to do
- 12:05Speaker 1: in my life right now, it's about marketing and branding
- 12:09Speaker 1: and it's about multiple screams of income. When I look
- 12:11Speaker 1: at a person like you, sir, Um, you are so
- 12:16Speaker 1: into giving back? Do you do? People tell you give
- 12:20Speaker 1: back too much and you should be a little bit
- 12:21Speaker 1: more selfish. Yeah, yeah, I get it a little bit. Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And what do you say to that? Um? For me,
- 12:28Speaker 1: I feel like I've I've been given gifts. God has
- 12:30Speaker 1: given me my gift for the world. UM, and so
- 12:33Speaker 1: I just I just encourage people to use their gifts
- 12:35Speaker 1: to enhance the world. So UM, just serving yourself, I
- 12:40Speaker 1: feel like is a is a downward spiral. But when
- 12:43Speaker 1: you're serving something that's higher than you, and you can
- 12:45Speaker 1: see the impact you have with just your work. Um,
- 12:48Speaker 1: you can go to sleep and rest and fulfilled. Um,
- 12:52Speaker 1: when when you're helping other people. And then then the
- 12:55Speaker 1: goal is Persist Foundation Institute. What is that so Persistence
- 12:59Speaker 1: it's it is my is my baby, So it's it's
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's my idea of wrapping up all the resources you
- 13:07Speaker 1: need to help a person persist in pursuing their dream.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So everybody has a vision, everybody has something that they
- 13:13Speaker 1: want to do, but at some point something has happened
- 13:17Speaker 1: to them where they said, oh, maybe this isn't for me,
- 13:19Speaker 1: Maybe I should go to the other way, Maybe I
- 13:21Speaker 1: should accept a compromise for my life and Persist Institute
- 13:25Speaker 1: push together. The product either be books, online courses, events, uh,
- 13:30Speaker 1: coaching where I come alongside people uh and I help
- 13:34Speaker 1: them keep pushing towards their dream. And so so I
- 13:38Speaker 1: just wanted to get engaged into that process. Easy hit
- 13:42Speaker 1: me up on the email by one of my books
- 13:43Speaker 1: and we can start from there. You can start from there.
- 13:45Speaker 1: So so when you I'm gonna give away one of
- 13:47Speaker 1: my books to everybody. So first of all, we're gonna
- 13:49Speaker 1: give away in my newsletter. Let's let's do it right.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So we're gonna autograph this and then we can put
- 13:53Speaker 1: a newsletter. We're gonna talk about this in the book.
- 13:56Speaker 1: We will talk about a little bit. But I gotta
- 13:57Speaker 1: bring you back after I've read the book because the
- 14:00Speaker 1: first time I got he personally brought it with me.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And so the thing about it is that, uh, tell
- 14:05Speaker 1: me about the book persists. Yeah, so persist how to
- 14:08Speaker 1: beat the things that make us quit? Yeah. So as
- 14:11Speaker 1: I started doing research on persistence and resilience, UM, UH
- 14:15Speaker 1: just kind of identified top ten reasons people usually say, uh,
- 14:20Speaker 1: they cite to why they aren't living their dream. And
- 14:22Speaker 1: so I just kind of go through the top ten
- 14:24Speaker 1: in the book. So some of the things are like fear, Um,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, I'm scared. I don't I don't think I
- 14:29Speaker 1: could do it self. Doubt is another one. I'm not
- 14:32Speaker 1: good enough, not me. Uh, time, I don't have the time,
- 14:35Speaker 1: it's not the right time. Timing, Oh my time has passed. Um.
- 14:40Speaker 1: And you know talk about things like comfort. Some people
- 14:42Speaker 1: get in the comfort zone where they're comfortable. Um, I'm
- 14:45Speaker 1: living a good life him. I know I got this vision,
- 14:47Speaker 1: but man, you want me to go, I'll lead this
- 14:49Speaker 1: and step over here, and I think I need to
- 14:51Speaker 1: do this. So comfort sometimes it's something that holds people
- 14:53Speaker 1: back as well. So those are some of the things
- 14:55Speaker 1: I talked about now, the things about it. Some of
- 14:57Speaker 1: this stuff is so natural to me now because U
- 15:00Speaker 1: my degrees in mathematics and I left IBM to pursue
- 15:03Speaker 1: a career. Stand up immediately, people go oh crazy. And
- 15:07Speaker 1: so I know when I walked away and I started
- 15:09Speaker 1: managing Steve Harvey and two thousand as a successful sick
- 15:12Speaker 1: people people say, are you crazy. I remember when I
- 15:14Speaker 1: told Steve in two thousand and five we should walk
- 15:17Speaker 1: away from one of the largest UH contract deals in
- 15:20Speaker 1: the radio history to do syndicated radio. And I didn't
- 15:23Speaker 1: even have a contract. You crazy? And so these are
- 15:26Speaker 1: fear moments. These are moments with people. Sometimes you do it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I always tell you gotta have a plan, But sometimes
- 15:32Speaker 1: your plan is just your desire to be successful. And
- 15:36Speaker 1: I've always had that undeniable desire to be successful. And
- 15:40Speaker 1: I always tell my staff all the time. I tell
- 15:42Speaker 1: them that I said something's gonna happen there there no
- 15:45Speaker 1: I said three months from now. This My life is
- 15:47Speaker 1: about the change. And I know that whether and and
- 15:49Speaker 1: and and it does happen, because I just know I could,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I could. I could even when I did radio with
- 15:56Speaker 1: Steve and UM, I always tell where the ratings were
- 15:59Speaker 1: up or down just by the sensibility because I I
- 16:01Speaker 1: stay in tune with the relationship of what is successful
- 16:04Speaker 1: and what is not successful. And so when you write
- 16:07Speaker 1: a book like this, persist, what is the biggest takeaway
- 16:11Speaker 1: you want somebody to take away from this book? The
- 16:14Speaker 1: biggest takeaway is that they're always gonna They're always is
- 16:16Speaker 1: gonna be an excuse to site to why you should
- 16:19Speaker 1: accept the compromise always every person. And and the difference
- 16:23Speaker 1: between people that live the life that they want people
- 16:27Speaker 1: that don't is that somehow they've ingrained in that certainty,
- 16:31Speaker 1: like you were saying, like something's gonna happen, They've ingrained
- 16:33Speaker 1: certainty in their life. They put routines in place where
- 16:36Speaker 1: they can have that certainty every day. And that's the
- 16:38Speaker 1: main take Here's the thing, ladies and gentlemen, there are
- 16:41Speaker 1: no UM. There are no guarantees and UM having units
- 16:44Speaker 1: short allows me to soap box it a little bit
- 16:47Speaker 1: because of the fact that UM, when I see people, UM,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I would tell people you know when I have I
- 16:54Speaker 1: know I'm gonna die. I've accepted that the problem with
- 16:57Speaker 1: most people. They don't accept that they're gonna die, and
- 17:00Speaker 1: you have to understand it. So you become better planners
- 17:02Speaker 1: when you know there is a there's an end game,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and so except the end game, now what you don't do.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I don't think I'm gonna die, Tom are I think
- 17:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna die. I'm living like as old as somebody
- 17:13Speaker 1: in the Bible. That's my end game. But in the
- 17:15Speaker 1: process of doing that, you know, I have to plan
- 17:18Speaker 1: out things and see dreams that I want to do.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Not then average person, they don't see it that way.
- 17:23Speaker 1: They fear death. They fear it. They so they run
- 17:26Speaker 1: from the number one thing that they can't control. You
- 17:29Speaker 1: can't control death. It's going to happen. And so that
- 17:33Speaker 1: allows me to plan things out differently than the average person.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And so I'm always trying to achieve next level of stuff.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I'm always trying to meet people. I'm always trying to
- 17:43Speaker 1: understand what my what God has given me, and God
- 17:47Speaker 1: has given everybody the same rope. It appears on how
- 17:51Speaker 1: much you want to pull in. And so when I
- 17:53Speaker 1: hit fifted, I was cool. When I had sicked it,
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm still cool because I'm thinking the same way that
- 17:59Speaker 1: I wasn't I was twenty. But the problem is that
- 18:02Speaker 1: people don't understand that in order to find out your
- 18:04Speaker 1: path of your future, you have to look to your
- 18:07Speaker 1: past because whatever you did in your twenties is what
- 18:10Speaker 1: you're gonna be making money with and your for the
- 18:12Speaker 1: fifties and sixties. But see, if people are so far
- 18:15Speaker 1: looking in the future, what can I do? Just look
- 18:17Speaker 1: back because all the skill sets that you've developed, it's
- 18:21Speaker 1: gonna allow you to move forward to accomplish the tax
- 18:24Speaker 1: of success. And that's what I'm taking away from this
- 18:27Speaker 1: book that I have not read. But the values that
- 18:30Speaker 1: you keep telling me about fear comfort zone. You know,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I don't know could I do that? What if I failed? Hey?
- 18:36Speaker 1: What if you do all your dad? You know your
- 18:41Speaker 1: dad became teach them. I would tell my staff I
- 18:43Speaker 1: make mistake. I tell my daughter all the time, I said,
- 18:46Speaker 1: your dad's not perfect, because so she won't get caught
- 18:49Speaker 1: up in that or you know, the resumes the accomplishment too.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Can I do that? Can I achieve what he's achieved?
- 18:55Speaker 1: I don't. I don't expect you to do that because
- 18:57Speaker 1: your dad's not perfect, and so imperfection is what makes
- 19:00Speaker 1: you great? Perfection, it makes you makes you foolish if
- 19:03Speaker 1: you if you if that's what you're trying to cheek
- 19:05Speaker 1: all the time. And when you fail your trip, I
- 19:08Speaker 1: tell people shoot for perfection. If you miss greatness is cool.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I agree, And I think your your failures are actually
- 19:16Speaker 1: what make you, um, make you relatable. And when when
- 19:22Speaker 1: I go out and I talked to two kids at schools,
- 19:25Speaker 1: I'm really passionate and encouraging children when I go out
- 19:27Speaker 1: and I talked to them. The first slide I put
- 19:30Speaker 1: up there, I list all my failures. It took me
- 19:32Speaker 1: five years to get into medical school. Five years, and
- 19:35Speaker 1: so I applied over five hundred times to medical school.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And so UM when I tell students after like, oh
- 19:41Speaker 1: my gosh, I tried for one year and it didn't work. Um,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you know, but it's one it's like, okay, bring down
- 19:48Speaker 1: this admiration and bring it down to level everybody's the same. Um.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And then to like keep pressing, you know, keep pushing
- 19:58Speaker 1: you know. UM, But I think some of my failures
- 20:00Speaker 1: are the things that give me the most power. And
- 20:04Speaker 1: if you if you look at failure is not a
- 20:05Speaker 1: power piece as like you know, a disadvantage that you
- 20:08Speaker 1: have opposed to something that I have power from. I
- 20:12Speaker 1: was looking at the chapters and money. I don't have
- 20:14Speaker 1: enough money. Oh man, I would you something about that? Um?
- 20:20Speaker 1: Would I go get gas? I just pumped, you know,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I go. You know you have like three different levels
- 20:26Speaker 1: you can get. I just pumped. And so that's my goal.
- 20:29Speaker 1: See I My goal is I have several steps in
- 20:32Speaker 1: my life, like, for instance, I would shop with coupons.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I still shop with coupons if it's my option. You know, hey,
- 20:38Speaker 1: you know best, but you know with a bad bathroom,
- 20:40Speaker 1: y'ar coup on. Hey, I'm I'm there. Okay, okay, But
- 20:45Speaker 1: I tell people my mentality is to shop what I'm
- 20:50Speaker 1: looking at the price tag and so that so I
- 20:53Speaker 1: don't worry about My goal is not to worry about money.
- 20:56Speaker 1: My goal is to have money. And so most people
- 20:58Speaker 1: don't understand that. So when you wrote that chapter, what
- 21:01Speaker 1: did you mean? So I'm I'm I'm looking at a
- 21:04Speaker 1: lot of people have these visions where they maybe want
- 21:06Speaker 1: to start up company or they want to start a
- 21:08Speaker 1: business and they need a brick and mortar place and
- 21:10Speaker 1: they say, well, I need this investor money or my
- 21:12Speaker 1: investors haven't come through, so that means I can't start,
- 21:14Speaker 1: And I'm like, nope, nope, you can start near garage. Okay,
- 21:20Speaker 1: you can start right now. You don't need a brick
- 21:22Speaker 1: and mortar place. So in that chapter, I really talk
- 21:25Speaker 1: about bringing value, so like being committed to bringing value
- 21:28Speaker 1: to the marketplace opposed to accept expecting someone to give
- 21:31Speaker 1: you money for an idea. Go out and show that
- 21:34Speaker 1: that is valuable, right, prove the concept in the market first,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and then you know, maybe get somebody after you've got
- 21:40Speaker 1: some money coming in. Um. But yeah, So with that,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I just think people everybody's got a vision and they
- 21:45Speaker 1: say I don't have money, I I can't start. I'm like,
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's not true. But that's all. It always goes back
- 21:49Speaker 1: to the business plan, right, So why did you? Why
- 21:52Speaker 1: did you write a book? I there's a lot of
- 21:55Speaker 1: people out there writing books? Now did you come along? Mr? Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 1: will write a book. I've got this fire in me. Um,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I've got this fire in this this commitment to encouraging people,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and I'm gonna do it on every possible platform. So
- 22:11Speaker 1: that's me going out on a on a stage and speaking,
- 22:14Speaker 1: me writing the book. It's me on Instagram, you know,
- 22:17Speaker 1: at five am after the gym telling somebody what you know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: what I think? Um, I wake up in the morning
- 22:23Speaker 1: thinking how can I encourage somebody? And so um that's
- 22:26Speaker 1: why I write. I'm gonna continue to write them, um,
- 22:29Speaker 1: just because I feel like that's what I'm on this
- 22:31Speaker 1: earth to do. Well, you know, that's why I'm on
- 22:33Speaker 1: That's why I'm on this earth now, you know, meeting
- 22:35Speaker 1: people like you, um Man. You know, I really can't
- 22:39Speaker 1: tell you how excited I am when I meet an
- 22:42Speaker 1: individual like you. It tells me why I'm doing money
- 22:44Speaker 1: making conversation a day of my program directed one of
- 22:47Speaker 1: the big inspirations. But why I am who I am
- 22:52Speaker 1: right now? You know, because sometimes I didn't look at
- 22:55Speaker 1: myself and so all the value of my next level
- 22:57Speaker 1: of my life. You gotta help people that. My next
- 23:00Speaker 1: conversation with you is who you surround yourself that push
- 23:03Speaker 1: you for? Who are your cheerleaders that champion you to
- 23:05Speaker 1: the next goal in life? Man, because uh, you know,
- 23:08Speaker 1: uh you specially due. And we're gonna create this relationship
- 23:12Speaker 1: and uh definitely gonna have you back on the show
- 23:14Speaker 1: after I'll read this book. Yes, and we're gonna we're
- 23:17Speaker 1: gonna keep winning. But more importantly, you be who you
- 23:20Speaker 1: are because you're doing things I could not do, and
