[SPEAKER_00]: So I went out, bought jeans, they fit perfectly but she never happens and now I'm back and I immediately walked in and was like, I'm recording the second I walk in the door.

[SPEAKER_00]: Usually, I'll go do some stuff, and if you have seen from what I've posted on mine, I am really struggling with staying focused lately, it is a big thing that I'm going to be working on.

[SPEAKER_00]: These rules which are fully convoluted and made up in my head, but they still guide the way that I plan my Disney trips.

[SPEAKER_00]: The reason I wanted to do this episode is because surprise unless I've already told you and honestly I can't remember, but I don't think I have.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am planning a vacation, a family vacation, to Disney World this summer.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm bringing Ben, I'm bringing Ben, and if you know anything about me, you know that my husband does not go to Disney World.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to come back, I was pregnant, but I bad at math.

[SPEAKER_00]: So four years, it's around four years ago.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was the last time he went to Disney World.

[SPEAKER_00]: And now we are all going together.

[SPEAKER_00]: My mom is coming, I'm going pros going, my husband is going.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I am planning a full trip for multiple people, just something that I don't do that often.

[SPEAKER_00]: And while I've been thinking about what I want to do and plotting and scheming, I've really realized that I have this strict set of commandments that I tend to follow when I plan a trip.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm acting like, oh, a rare trip.

[SPEAKER_00]: I meant Disney World all the freaking time, okay?

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think some of you side-eyed me while you're listening to this in your car while you were running and we're like Um, ma'am what I'm planning to do some real trouble the time and these are the rules that I live by and I thought it would be nice to share them with you because a lot of times There is that invite there is the go-to advice that I give for people planning their trips a lot of that is pretty rigid and pretty intense

[SPEAKER_00]: Lightning lanes, booking windows, things like that are so serious, but the way I plan it myself, is a lot stranger.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm kind of opening the door to my psyche on this one, and I hope that it doesn't forget any of you out.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now before we begin, I do need to acknowledge, I need to say that, yes, I do have annual passholder privilege.

[SPEAKER_00]: I go to these parks often which some of you do but some of you don't.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am here more than once a year which means that it's not like make or break if I go on some of these attractions, if I do some of these activities.

[SPEAKER_00]: However, I do think that the way I approach these trips is a way that can help balance out a lot of that kind

[SPEAKER_00]: Then I go to the parks, but I do think my approach is coming from a good place.

[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get into it and let's start with the first Disney planning rule I live by.

[SPEAKER_00]: And these are all randomly assorted with numbers.

[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't like working my way down.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're just going to start randomly with number one, which is that good is better than great.

[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, being there to see something alive is good.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's better than getting their early waiting and waiting and waiting to have the perfect great view.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now this is something I admittedly struggle with a lot that I have worked through over the years.

[SPEAKER_00]: My mom is probably listening to this and either cackling or biting her tongue.

[SPEAKER_00]: I fear the chose how I'm going to get from my mother after this episode because she knows the truth and I don't want to give you a false bill of goods.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is how I think I approach these trips.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do aim for perfection because when you're up for with this stuff which so many of you are

[SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like there's this thing in your head where you can see the day so clearly.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what the day could be and when something derails that it's so annoying.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know when you're like okay we can do this right and then that right and then you go and it's like why is this lot like whenever spaceship earth line is 80 minutes long you're like this is not how it's supposed to be and I know you know what I'm talking about.

[SPEAKER_00]: But when it comes to things like entertainment, a parade, a show, I truly believe that it is worth it to me, to save time and energy and just roll up to something like fantastic.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you get a bad seat, that's totally fine.

[SPEAKER_00]: Being in the room at a show in worst seats is completely fine by me because I'm there and I saved time, I didn't stress and I got to do other stuff I wanted to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: I also feel this way for a good view of fireworks, and as much as I love happily ever after, I would love to have that perfect vantage point.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is uncomfortable and I am not willing to do it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think we talk about that enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to waste my time possibly hours uncomfortably sitting there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then, even if the show is fantastic, if nobody near you is accidentally bumping an iPhone into your head, if nobody is in front of you at the last minute and then put a kid on their shoulders, even if everything works out, you are still going to be in some sort of nightmare toilet bowl mosh pit trying to get out at the end of the night.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know that when I went last year with my friend Jamie, we truly got stuck in the hub.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was almost, it was one of the scariest moments in my life, and I think that's just how it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: So my approach is that you don't need a perfect game.

[SPEAKER_00]: I really do feel this way about honestly almost all entertainment at the parks, but it can really apply to scheduling an approach to.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're still going to walk away having seen Mickey perform, seen characters on float, seen a princess on stage.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're still in the space where it happens, or on the main street or the waterfront here, I'm saying.

[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't think it is worth stressing about getting that perfect view because if you want to go away from a parade having only seen it through people's shoulders, you're still going to have enjoyed it almost as much because again, you're still there, you're still on a theme park and doing that with ease and comfort is really more important to me than doing it perfectly.

[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about this plenty of times before I'm very amusing, but really not through the lens of planning.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's more of like, we do mention this in like recap post-trip discussions, but pre-trip, I do think I gotta be saying it loudly because this is in my head every single time I am laying out in itinerary.

[SPEAKER_00]: Lightning lanes take up so much of the planning discussion.

[SPEAKER_00]: if he comes like the focus of the trip and as the Walt Disney World app home screen will tell ya since it's the only thing you can see.

[SPEAKER_00]: When you open the Disney World app, all it is is a prompt to spend more money.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's so frustrating when I open it and it's like I just want to see something and it's just do you want lightning Layers you want the really expensive lightning lane literally like I can't I can't like one third the top third is like High-carly and then the middle third is lightning and multi-pass and single-pass I think and then the bottom is premier

[SPEAKER_00]: Two thirds of the home screen is lightning lane.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's, hmm, okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, my chill approach to the parks.

[SPEAKER_00]: We are not just here to ride rides and immediately leave.

[SPEAKER_00]: We are paying money to enter this park, which means that we really need to value all of the other stuff that is happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I will admit why I'm an annual passholder, I do come here often, I like to mention that, I don't want to be extremely biased, but this perspective is not AP privilege.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's really just facts, because when you really break it down and take a look at it, we've basically reverted back to the original Disney ticket book system, and it might blow your mind a little to think about it that way.

[SPEAKER_00]: E-tickets, you know, which used to be the biggest fanciest rides.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but there's not that many levels.

[SPEAKER_00]: But a long time ago, back when we walked up, he'll do school both ways and lightning links were called fast pass and they were free.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think that the parks themselves need to be heralded just as much as these rides that now have a search arch.

[SPEAKER_00]: Your admission ticket is no longer covering you going on the rides the way it used to, the way so many of us visit the parks.

[SPEAKER_00]: So in theory, you are paying to go to Walt Disney World, mostly just to be at Walt Disney World.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do believe Lightning Lane provides a great service.

[SPEAKER_00]: I also don't want to spend 85 minutes of my life in life or test track on my Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do find Disney World much more stressful when it's a lightning lane day.

[SPEAKER_00]: But on those lightning lane days, I am less happy than the days that I do less and can just experience the parks as it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm locked in and I get stressed if I don't feel like I've gotten my money's worth.

[SPEAKER_00]: All day, there's the schedule, the tracking, the additional drops.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're like trying to figure out when, oh, maybe I can get a peer pan.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I just think it's helpful to remember, to have the approach mentally, that when you or I, since that's what we're talking about, when I am planning out my days and I'm deciding what we're doing, it's not a question of which lightning lanes are rebooking.

[SPEAKER_00]: I strongly believe that unless you rarely come here, you really want to do it all, which sometimes that's the trip is that you want to get it all in and I totally understand that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I will do it for one maybe two days, which is what I'm planning for our June trip just to get Pearl and Frozen Ever after because that queue is so boring.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, I am looking at doing lightning lanes for two of the days, but I just want to emphasize that when I'm looking at our schedule and when I'm building an artinerary, I always like to remind myself that we are here for more than the rides.

[SPEAKER_00]: and to whoever needs to hear it, not paying extra for lightning lane, does not mean you are doing Disney World worse.

[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you really like coasters and you skipped guardians because that ride is so good, and that is actually worth the money to skip that line.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like this place and the artwork and the architecture and the thought and the entertainment, there is so much happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: And while it is my entire job to think about these places, I still don't think I appreciate just the base atmosphere enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if you take away one thing from me, one thing from this episode, I wanted to be that we should all consider spending more of our vacation, more of our planning approach, thinking about how we can be within these space in the parks instead of just getting on the rides.

[SPEAKER_00]: To me, this is the ultimate guess in check.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is flipping to the back of the math book to see if you did the equation correct.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's also the number one way to weed out if you're overdoing it with lightning lanes and dining reservations really.

[SPEAKER_00]: I recommend you spend the money not where you think you should, but where gives you the most joy.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like eating like a 23 dollar slice of cake just out on the boardwalk It doesn't make any sense to me, but you can basically get okay ready for me to do math laughable.

[SPEAKER_00]: My mom had dropped me at school to go to math tutoring and now I am yelling into a mic about girl math, okay?

[SPEAKER_00]: As much as I make fun of cake fake shop, as I mentioned, by the way, that chicken velvet soup fantastic worth going back for.

[SPEAKER_00]: I take back everything I said actually, XT was right.

[SPEAKER_00]: However, for as much fun as I make of cake fake shop, you can basically get two of their extremely overpriced lattes for the price of a single ride on

[SPEAKER_00]: A single lightning lane for Tron is around $20, $22.

[SPEAKER_00]: The latte that I got at Cake Bank that I drink over two days because it felt like such an indulgence and it was actually a gigantic and I think I like four shots of espresso in it.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if I would've just gotten the, you know, it's like, ooh, raspberry latte only, it would've been $10.

[SPEAKER_00]: I could have had two indulgent fancy divine exciting special coffees on two separate mornings or about a two minute ride on tron.

[SPEAKER_00]: And what I put it that way, I feel better about the spending I am doing in a way I really couldn't sus out otherwise.

[SPEAKER_00]: So when you're evaluating what you're doing, which is what I do when I'm planning these trips, just pause and think to yourself, is this worth it to me?

[SPEAKER_00]: One, I'm so glad we know that we're going to get on these rides, our plans are locked and loaded, that makes me happy, that makes me comfortable.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if, you know, you're on a trip where it feels like this will give me peace spending this money, I absolutely recommend it.

[SPEAKER_00]: I will be spending money on this trip on lightning leaves on certain days, as I mentioned, but people don't really talk about the psychological effect of having to pay to skip the line because the thing is, I don't know if you guys do this, but I sure do, that when I'm paying for lightning lanes, I am clocking what the standby weight is,

[SPEAKER_00]: So if I buy lightning lane, I am constantly like, oh, the stand by's only 15 minutes, why do I do this?
