- 0:00OK, welcome back to another episode of Run Mountain Peaks.
- 0:04We got a few things to talk about this episode.
- 0:07First off, 65 and Sunny is is insane.
- 0:13I always say it. I have to live somewhere with
- 0:16seasons, the first handful of spring days, fifties, 60s after
- 0:22a long winter. I mean the feeling that goes
- 0:25through your body is is next level.
- 0:28I think if you don't live here and you don't get that every
- 0:30year, I don't know, but it's hitting hard.
- 0:33Today feels amazing. And we had a couple other things
- 0:36to talk about today. I did a little bit of an uphill
- 0:39effort this week. I ran it twice.
- 0:42So I did the same kind of a time trial up S on Kinetic Mountain.
- 0:46The first time I did it I did in about 7 minutes, 45 seconds and
- 0:50then I re ran it 545 days later. I did in 7 minutes and 15
- 0:55seconds. It was a one mile climb and it
- 1:00was 500 feet of climbing, so 30 seconds is a big improvement.
- 1:04I want to talk about everything I did to get that time faster.
- 1:08There's a lots of different things I want to discuss.
- 1:11Obviously I didn't get like a gain any fitness in five days.
- 1:15It was more kind of like a race day execution and like a few
- 1:19things. So I thought there was some good
- 1:21talking points about that effort that I wanted to go through.
- 1:24So we'll do that and then I want to talk injuries.
- 1:29Injuries stink. I've had a fair share of running
- 1:33injuries. So I had a bunch kind of getting
- 1:35into the sport and I've had two major injuries.
- 1:38I would say that that set me back or kind of like
- 1:41significantly changed my plan since then.
- 1:44So I want to talk about those and just kind of go through the
- 1:47history, what I've done, how to battle through it and and yeah,
- 1:51kind of get back on track. So those are going to be the two
- 1:54main topics today. And then at the end, we are
- 1:56going to do we have some race updates.
- 1:58So there's a handful of races I want to go through a couple
- 2:02coming up, a couple ones from last month we'll go through
- 2:05results on. So we're going to do all that
- 2:08today. So it should be a good episode
- 2:10before we start the episode. We're going to do the 62nd
- 2:13training tip. The the tip this week is kind of
- 2:17like just talking about the effort that I did every once in
- 2:21a while. Even if you're training for an
- 2:23ultra, even if you never want to run fast, you don't have kind of
- 2:25goals like that. You should put yourself in an
- 2:28uncomfortable situation running, whether that be a time trial, a
- 2:32race that's out of your real house, whatever, just an hour
- 2:35tempo out of nowhere. Because pushing yourself,
- 2:39getting uncomfortable, it's just going to help you grow.
- 2:41It's it's going to give you a good stimulus that you probably
- 2:44haven't gotten in a while if you've been avoiding something
- 2:46like that. So every once in a while, even
- 2:48if you're trained for ultras, do a hard all out effort.
- 2:51It's going to benefit you. If you have any questions, run
- 2:54mountainpeaks.com or just send me a message anywhere.
- 2:58But that's the tip today. And it was inspired by the
- 3:01effort that I did. So yeah, I want to talk about
- 3:04the the South Unkanunuk time trial that I ended up doing.
- 3:09Basically there's a bunch of trails of the Yonkanunix S
- 3:11Onkanunix has a road to the top. There's like fire tower or cell
- 3:15towers and some buildings up there.
- 3:16So there's a road. So there's a little bit of like
- 3:19a road time trial, which is, which is totally out of my
- 3:24wheelhouse. Obviously it's a mountain, so
- 3:27it's more like climb, definitely more comfortable climbing than
- 3:29going on a flat Rd. but it's definitely, you know, out of my
- 3:32wheelhouse, a low grade Rd. effort.
- 3:35So kind of on a whim, I had a good training block this last
- 3:38month and I was looking for something shorter to give a
- 3:41decent effort on. And this is kind of what I ended
- 3:44up going with. There's been a ton of melting
- 3:48recently and there were just no good trails.
- 3:51Like I want to hit something up in the Whites, but the days that
- 3:54I could go up there, there were no really great trails.
- 3:57So I decided why not to do something that scares me, a
- 4:01local short road. And so that's what I did.
- 4:03And like I said, I improved a, a good amount.
- 4:06And so I want to talk about the improvement and the things that
- 4:09I kind of did to run that faster.
- 4:14It was a good effort for me, like I said.
- 4:15So the second time that I, the first time I ran it 745, it was
- 4:19about a 515 grade adjusted pace. And then the second time I ran
- 4:23it, I did in 715 and it was a 450 grade adjusted pace.
- 4:28So like a pretty, pretty substantial leap.
- 4:32And yeah, we're just going to talk through like race day
- 4:34execution and what I think about that.
- 4:36And, and so hopefully it'll be a little bit interesting.
- 4:41So I guess we'll just get right into it.
- 4:42How do I run it faster in five days with the same fitness?
- 4:45The first thing, I think I just had more rest.
- 4:48So when I ran it the first time, I was coming off a full like the
- 4:54last big week and kind of a training block.
- 4:56So it was, I think it was 12 or 12 1/2 hours of, of cardio
- 5:00volume. And it was the most volume in
- 5:04miles invert and and speed work that I've done in a block.
- 5:07And I took a day off, I think I did an easy bike and then I ran
- 5:12it. So I was fairly rested, like I
- 5:15took a day off before it and then I did an easy bike.
- 5:17But I, I just feel like being close to that high training load
- 5:21for me, my legs were probably just a little bit tired, didn't
- 5:24have that high end speed and power pop that I needed.
- 5:28So, oh, I didn't even say this, but this week after those that
- 5:32kind of build, I was taking a down week.
- 5:34So I only ended up doing 8 hours of training this week.
- 5:38The last three weeks had been around 12.
- 5:40And so doing the the time trial at the end of an 8 hour week
- 5:45instead of like after a 12 hour week, I think that probably
- 5:48helped. So it wasn't like a full out
- 5:50taper, but I think the right the legs were just a little bit more
- 5:54rested. And I think the down week just
- 5:56kind of benefited me a little bit.
- 5:58And one thing I want to talk about too, on down weeks
- 6:01sometimes, like I'm a big advocate of taking a down week
- 6:04every, you know, 3 or 4 weeks if you're building volume, like
- 6:07that's very much the uphill athlete kind of playbook for
- 6:10training for ultras. Do a few weeks, build, build,
- 6:13build, and then really cut your volume back.
- 6:16And I'm, I'm a big proponent of that.
- 6:18When I cut my volume back and just do easy stuff, which some
- 6:21like coaches will tell you to do, I feel flat.
- 6:24My body gets all out of whack because I'm not training a lot
- 6:26anyway. I feel flat.
- 6:28I don't sleep good like the whole 9.
- 6:31So I like to keep in speed work and even like I've been
- 6:34experiencing like throwing an effort or two like this in like
- 6:36an uphill effort. I think it helps keep the pop a
- 6:38little bit get, you know, kind of staves off those first few
- 6:43days of just lethargic when you come back.
- 6:45So, so I was on a down week through in a couple efforts.
- 6:49I think that helped. The other thing that helped was
- 6:51the first time that I ran the effort, I did an hour, I think
- 6:55it was an hour, maybe an hour and a half of biking the day
- 6:58before. This time I ran it, I did an
- 7:01hour running and I did like 6 strides at the end of I think it
- 7:05did mostly hill strides in a few flat strides at the end of it.
- 7:09And what I've noticed for my speed workouts, if I bike before
- 7:15speed workout or a hard effort, I don't know if I'm not a good
- 7:19cyclist, I don't know if I'm playing into my psyche, but it I
- 7:21just feel like my heart rate doesn't get that high, but the
- 7:25legs are kind of working almost like harder than it would be on
- 7:28a run. I don't know, I just feel weird
- 7:30and I never have the pop after a bike.
- 7:33I feel better if I'm running, I feel like it doesn't.
- 7:35I know biking degrades your leg muscles less, but I just think I
- 7:39do more running. So my my legs are, are better to
- 7:41bounce back from an easy run than an easy bike, even though
- 7:44if that sounds kind of crazy. So I would say an easy run the
- 7:48day before an effort and then throw in strides.
- 7:50I don't think this is like breaking a science.
- 7:53I think everyone you know before big races does strides the day
- 7:56before or two days before, especially even if on an ultra.
- 7:58I think it's good to do that. It just get your get your leg
- 8:01muscles kind of engaged and ready to go for the next day,
- 8:03have more pop. So those are a couple of things.
- 8:07The route itself, I ran it today and it was dry.
- 8:10And then the last time I ran it, I think we had snow two days
- 8:14before, like 6 inches of snow and it had melted.
- 8:16All the snow melted away, but it was wet.
- 8:19There wasn't really ice, but it, I don't know, it's a little bit
- 8:22wet. So I think that that had a
- 8:24little bit to do with it. It was a little bit hotter.
- 8:28It wasn't super hot, but it was almost like 55 or 60° when I ran
- 8:31it this time versus last time was probably 40, like the
- 8:34perfect running temperature. I don't know, I think the
- 8:36roaches say like you can get downgraded performance even at
- 8:4060°, but I don't think the heat had any effect on me.
- 8:43But if it if it was 5 or 10° warmer, I think it probably
- 8:46would have not that I could have improved.
- 8:49It wouldn't have been a big deal.
- 8:51Like it's a shorter. I felt like that.
- 8:52But that's just one thing I was thinking about.
- 8:54You know the heat when it when you're doing an effort like that
- 8:57and then just running a route twice.
- 9:02I think the second time you run it, you just gain kind of like
- 9:05experience or confidence in where to push and when to push
- 9:09and how to feel. I guess I can't really describe
- 9:12it, but I feel like anyone, if they run in the same effort
- 9:14twice, the second time, if you're the same or better
- 9:17fitness, you're probably just going to run it faster.
- 9:19So I kind of knew the first go wasn't going to be my best
- 9:23effort. And it wasn't even like the
- 9:24first time, it wasn't even a full race effort.
- 9:26I was just kind of like, let's see what I can do on this hill.
- 9:29And then I was, I was like 8 seconds off the crown with some,
- 9:32with some strong runners on that on that board actually.
- 9:35And I was like, all right, I'm going to try.
- 9:36I'm going to go back and do what I can to get this crown.
- 9:39So that's kind of like, I don't know, I took it a little bit
- 9:42more seriously. I went really more full out
- 9:44today. But I think I'm yeah, just
- 9:47running in again really helped me.
- 9:49Another thing, I think I'd mentioned it kind of in the
- 9:51intro, but when you're ultra running, I, I advocate for speed
- 9:57work every week, some sort of intervals and some strides.
- 10:02But I think you're doing a lot less like tempos, a lot less
- 10:06time trials, a lot less of that stuff.
- 10:08And sometimes you just need a hard stimulus of something you
- 10:13haven't been doing and you can actually make quick gains from
- 10:16that. Like if I haven't done a track
- 10:18workout in a few months or a couple months or whatever, for
- 10:21whatever reason, and I do a track workout, I'll do it And
- 10:25it'll be like usually surprised, like, all right, I'm doing
- 10:27better than I thought I would have done.
- 10:29The next week I go back and do the same one.
- 10:31I always do a lot better and I don't know if this is more of a
- 10:35physical like I think it's a new stimulus or your body adjusts
- 10:38pretty quick. I think it's a mental fortitude
- 10:40like, OK, it's OK to feel like this.
- 10:42I can go a little bit harder next time.
- 10:44So I think both of those kind of play into it.
- 10:46But I do really think if you haven't been doing something and
- 10:50you do it once in a once in a once a month or something, you
- 10:53can get like big physical gains from that.
- 10:56Like the roaches say, throw in an hour tempo, sometimes just go
- 10:58hard for an hour and and you're going to get big gains.
- 11:01This goes for any distance, like time trial, whatever it is.
- 11:05I would say be careful and don't get hurt.
- 11:07But once in a while, I think if you haven't done something hard,
- 11:10do something hard. And for me, I'm always going to
- 11:14probably do it on an uphill or a flat, but usually an uphill.
- 11:18I think it's a lot safer, lower impact.
- 11:21And yeah, you have less risk of like rolling an ankle or like
- 11:24I'm done time trialing downhills.
- 11:27I just, for me, it's just not worth.
- 11:28It it's it's. I feel like I'm getting to a
- 11:31point where it's less about fitness and more just about, I
- 11:35don't know how strong your legs are making sure you're you're
- 11:38skilled at. And I don't really want to race
- 11:41any like crazy short distance up downs right now.
- 11:44So, so for me, the risk reward for time travelling downhills
- 11:47is, is is getting very low. So I'm going to do time trials
- 11:50on uphills or flats. I think if you throw in a couple
- 11:54track workouts, you'd probably be good to like RIP a 5K or 10K
- 11:57without getting hurt or anything like that.
- 11:59But yeah, throwing some, some stuff in.
- 12:01I think I posted a little bit on my Instagram and in a couple
- 12:03places like, yeah, throw yourself in the mix a little
- 12:07bit. It's going to help you.
- 12:09And so that's, I think, I think throwing myself in the mix a
- 12:12week ago helped me for this effort.
- 12:14So yeah, running it the second time, I just, I figured it was
- 12:18going to be better. I think pacing it.
- 12:20I also did a better job pacing it.
- 12:22I I think I did a better job pacing it, but then I look back
- 12:24and I was like, no, I think I was just kind of faster from the
- 12:27start, during the middle and at the end.
- 12:29So like I just ran the whole thing faster, which is good.
- 12:32Like I didn't, I didn't go out harder the second time and like
- 12:35pace poorly. And I think this again comes
- 12:38with, I think I was just more comfortable staying in the red
- 12:43for that push because he, I feel like ultra runners, you know,
- 12:48you don't get in the red a ton. And I think, I think short
- 12:52distance people, roadrunners know like it is OK to feel
- 12:57horrible and be in so much pain and your body can like keep
- 13:01pushing. And so I think I got it and I
- 13:03was like, all right, no, like I, I kind of serve, I survived.
- 13:06I think I can push a little bit harder.
- 13:08So just getting more comfy in that in that true redlining
- 13:12stage. And that's just going to come
- 13:14from doing more of these short things.
- 13:15And especially like, come on off of it quick.
- 13:18Because if I did this and then a few weeks later I go again, it's
- 13:21like, did I lose my my red line experience of a pushing through
- 13:25that? Like how how long does that
- 13:28adaptation, that mental fortitude last?
- 13:31Who knows? But I think it definitely helped
- 13:33running it again. And then, yeah, mental
- 13:36fortitude. This is this is something that
- 13:40one I watched the Conor man's documentary on YouTube twice.
- 13:43But between the efforts, once I just, I watched it was so good.
- 13:47And then the second time I I was like, Jocelyn, you got to watch
- 13:50this. So we watched it again.
- 13:51And I think just just seeing other people pushing it, like
- 13:55he's notorious for just pushing his workouts really hard sets
- 13:58the American record like one of the fittest Americans ever in in
- 14:02distance running. I think just seeing some of the
- 14:05workouts and getting some of that motivation was just like,
- 14:07all right, I need to go harder. Like these these guys go so
- 14:10hard. So I don't know, just watching a
- 14:13Connor man's documentary make you faster.
- 14:15Yes, maybe it may be faster. Another thing that I want to
- 14:21talk about a male post is on my Instagram at some point, but I
- 14:25listen to a Brandon Newbold podcast.
- 14:28I forget maybe it's on like the Rise and Shine podcast.
- 14:31I I think it was an old, they may be rebranded or something,
- 14:34but Brandon Newbold. I've been a fan of Brandon
- 14:37Newbold for a long time. If you don't know them, look
- 14:40them up. He he's I mean, he's a coach
- 14:43right now. He coaches at Phillip Phillip
- 14:45Exeter High School. But and I don't think he races
- 14:48anymore, but a handful of years ago he was one of the best
- 14:51runners in New England, like marathoners on trails, super
- 14:55fast, super interesting guy, cool story.
- 14:58I love listening to the podcast. So it's definitely a good
- 15:00listen. And he said a few things about
- 15:03racing in that podcast that got me kind of hyped up.
- 15:06One of them just being, and this is from being around like track
- 15:10and cross country kids, like he coaches high school people.
- 15:15He just, he, he was just talking about racing more like being OK
- 15:19with the pain and learning how to get the most out of yourself
- 15:22and dig deep. Like talking about some of these
- 15:24kids, they don't, they don't know how hard they can push yet.
- 15:28And, and that's a cool thing to kind of experience.
- 15:31And obviously he went into the pain cave like for all of his
- 15:33races, like he was, he was talking like he was saying when
- 15:37I raced, nothing was beautiful about it.
- 15:39I raged the whole time. He was saying my mindset in a
- 15:43rage was death or dishonor. Anytime I was in a race like
- 15:47towards the end and I was like competing with somebody, he was
- 15:50like, I, I, there was no question.
- 15:52I was going to go as hard as I can, like I'm going to try to
- 15:55pass this person, even if they're faster, even if I can't
- 15:58keep it up. I have to go 100% all out to the
- 16:02limit and and that just got me fired up, you know, so I'm like,
- 16:06I have to push harder like that. The first push was not my
- 16:09hardest. And, and yeah, he also said
- 16:13something about, I don't know if it was his code or somebody
- 16:15else's quote, but he said one of the things he loved about
- 16:17running was like he had this epiphany or someone says that
- 16:21you have this epiphany where I can run as hard as I as I can
- 16:27and nothing's going to happen to me.
- 16:29Like nothing's bad is going to happen to you.
- 16:30Like you can just go and run yourself into the depths of hell
- 16:36and nothing's going to happen. You're going to be OK at the
- 16:38end. And so that podcast, some of
- 16:41what he was talking about was just getting me fired up.
- 16:44So I think I dug deeper mentally in that red zone because digging
- 16:49deep deeper in the red zone versus in the at the end of an
- 16:53ultra completely different, completely different.
- 16:57I think I could be more scared of of the red zone than the
- 17:01late. Stages of an ultra.
- 17:02They're both really scary. They're both really scary
- 17:06because. It really is your whole entire
- 17:09body just just being like screaming at you, please stop.
- 17:13And you just have to be like, no, keep going.
- 17:15And so I, yeah, I think a lot of of efforts.
- 17:18It's, it's it's it's really mental.
- 17:21Running is really mental. I forget this guy was reading
- 17:25the Rules of Running. Shut up.
- 17:27Matt and Alyssa, They my, yeah, my brother and sister-in-law,
- 17:31they got me a book for Christmas and I was reading The Rules of
- 17:33Running. And one of them was this guy who
- 17:36I should know, and I forget his name, but I don't know him, but
- 17:38he was like one of the best American runners back in the
- 17:41day. He had some sort of tragic
- 17:43incident where he passed away. But he always said, I don't run
- 17:46to see who's fastest. I run to see who has the most
- 17:49guts. So I really think the person who
- 17:54has the most guts in runs is usually going to come out close
- 17:58to the top no matter, you know, So you got to run harder.
- 18:03Tell us some of like the mental fortitude stuff.
- 18:06And then lastly, this one, I was like, it's not like I was going
- 18:10to hide it or not. I think this is a very well
- 18:13documented thing. I'm not going to, this is not a
- 18:16nutritional advice. Find, find some sort of a
- 18:20nutritionist, but I took bicarb this time and I didn't the last
- 18:24time. And part of me in my head is
- 18:25like, I really hope that the entire reason why I ran that a
- 18:29lot faster was not just because of the bicarb.
- 18:31Like I go through all these lists of things like mental and
- 18:33it could have just been the bicarb that helped.
- 18:36Obviously it's going to help somewhat.
- 18:39There's lots of studies. I don't know how much it, it
- 18:41helps, but I dabble with it a lot.
- 18:44Usually I will just split. It's really expensive.
- 18:47So I'll, I'll split up the servings in half.
- 18:51I, I don't know, it's something I've experiment with.
- 18:53I think all of the pros are using it right now.
- 18:56Some people are probably going to give me Flack for or, or
- 18:58think of giving me Flack because like, oh, he's taking bike for,
- 19:02for like a local peak or local crown.
- 19:05But hey, everyone's got the same rules, you know, No, this is not
- 19:10a nutritional advice. This is not a nutritional
- 19:12advice. But I will say all of your
- 19:14favorite elite endurance runners are, are taking bicarb all the
- 19:19time. So it's just like how the sport
- 19:22is evolving and why it's getting so fast.
- 19:24And so yeah, I mean, was it was it is it cheating?
- 19:27I don't know. We'll see.
- 19:28I mean, I would assume that for sure.
- 19:31Who who had the crown before me? Dylan.
- 19:33Yeah, Dylan Shaloos. I for sure don't think he took
- 19:35bicarb before his push. And Speaking of yeah, he had the
- 19:40crown. He's a local crusher.
- 19:42I've actually never met him, but he's super fast.
- 19:45He has like every crown in cough sound, but he he ran 20 miles
- 19:50after running. Yeah, 6730 pace up, up, up that
- 19:54that climb, which is which is just crazy.
- 19:57Like for me, I I don't know, it's just crazy tougher than me.
- 20:01But yeah, so that those are kind of like my thoughts on how I
- 20:05improved again. I, I don't know, like I posted a
- 20:07little bit about it and I don't, I don't know even how it's like
- 20:10coming off like. I don't it's not the craziest
- 20:13time, but for me it was like a very good, it was a strong run,
- 20:17a really good sign, like a 450, great adjusted pace.
- 20:21Like on road it's a little bit like, I don't know, but for for
- 20:24seven, 715 minutes, I mean, it comes out to a mile and a half.
- 20:28If that were like flat, you know, 450 pace.
- 20:31I feel like uphills are usually like the gap is always like a
- 20:36little bit slower than I feel like an equivalent flat pace
- 20:41would be, which doesn't make sense, right?
- 20:42Like it's a grade adjusted pace. So that is the pace, but I just
- 20:46feel like grade adjust. Like you see people go out run
- 20:48grade adjusted and you know, it's always harder that like a
- 20:51630 grade adjusted is pretty hard, but a 630 flat is not, I
- 20:56think on the same level. Maybe it's because I stay on
- 20:58trails more, but for me like a, a, a 435 to 4:45, if you want to
- 21:05give me a little bit of extra credit on a flat for, for 7/7/15
- 21:10like that's, that's really good. That is, that is a improvement
- 21:12for me. So I was really stoked about it.
- 21:15And I want to kind of give the whole rundown for you guys.
- 21:17So I thought, yeah, there, I just had a lot of good thoughts
- 21:20on it. And the other thing I want to
- 21:22say, and I mentioned this, I don't know if I mentioned this
- 21:25earlier, but oh, this is going to go into the injury talk
- 21:28because I've been injured this winter.
- 21:30So my train has been a little bit different, but I, I look
- 21:32back on my, on my, my chart and I had not run a road run under 8
- 21:39minute pace for three months before this effort.
- 21:43So it was a 7:30. I ran at like a 710 up a
- 21:47mountain. And you know, you could think
- 21:50that is not, you know, conducive to fast running, like running
- 21:54slow all the time. And I think a few thoughts.
- 21:57The first one, aerobic aerobic your aerobic system is the
- 22:02number one thing that you can train for endurance sports like
- 22:06that is by far everyone says this, everyone knows this uphill
- 22:10athlete Killian roaches everybody.
- 22:12You want to be as aerobically fit as possible and that just
- 22:15means a lot of slow miles like this is like the whole everyone
- 22:19knows this. Run lots of slow miles and even
- 22:23though you're not getting like the leg strength and speed from
- 22:25running slow, you're developing aerobic.
- 22:27So I've been running slow for a long time years and I feel like
- 22:31it's finally paying dividends even when I'm not training super
- 22:36fast stuff. Even if you're training slow
- 22:39running cross training, if you're developing your aerobic
- 22:43capacity, you can still get faster.
- 22:45So I think that's number one. I think that the second thing is
- 22:48you can get, yeah, well that'll be OK.
- 22:53The second thing is you can get fit doing mountain efforts,
- 22:59doing Stairmaster workouts, doing incline tremor workouts,
- 23:03doing cross training esque workouts.
- 23:05I think mountain fitness does translate to Rd. fitness.
- 23:09So even if you're not doing track.
- 23:11Stuff road work all the time if you were doing workouts on
- 23:14hills. You are going to be getting
- 23:16fitter and stronger. Now, obviously I ran a hill, it
- 23:19was a little bit of a hill effort, but it was a lower grade
- 23:21incline. So I needed some turnover.
- 23:24So even without, you know, practicing that turnover other
- 23:28than like hill strides at the end of a run, your fitness is
- 23:31still going to carry you there. So that's the, that's the kind
- 23:35of like the things I was thinking about.
- 23:36And going back to the Connor Mance documentary, he Connor
- 23:40Mance runs his easy runs at 7 minute pace.
- 23:44Anybody listening, if anyone listening is faster than Conor
- 23:47Mance, please DM me and I'll, I'll show you, I'll do whatever
- 23:49you want. No, no, no, like, you know, so
- 23:53obviously everything's going to vary, but I, I just think a lot,
- 23:56a lot of people do their easy runs too fast.
- 23:59Conor Mance, this is a 7 minute pace.
- 24:01I actually don't know if that's true.
- 24:02They didn't even say that in the documentary.
- 24:04I think I looked at online so. This.
- 24:06Could just be propaganda, but I do think like most of my easy
- 24:11runs are 8 to 9 minutes, 9 to 10.
- 24:15You know, it's it's slow and it's supposed to be slow.
- 24:18It's supposed to let you recover and do harder workouts in
- 24:20between. So those are kind of my, some of
- 24:23my thoughts are running easy. I think again, that is me not
- 24:28doing sub 8 minute paces on roads is not on purpose.
- 24:32I was dealing with an ankle this winter and I just couldn't stand
- 24:35like those fast or high impact things.
- 24:38And so ideally I would be doing more of that fast work, just not
- 24:41as easy runs. It would be speed work, track
- 24:43worth, interval, stuff like that.
- 24:45So this is that's going to lead us into the injury talk that
- 24:48we'll go into today. But that that's like the main
- 24:51thing that I want to kind of like put across like I'm not a
- 24:53fast short distance Rd. person. I don't train it much, but
- 24:56mountain fitness can translate over over to the roads, even
- 25:00though it was a road up a mountain.
- 25:01So those are my thoughts on the effort.
- 25:04And then the last thing I want to say, like my reflection, I
- 25:07kind of was saying like, you know, this effort, it was a it
- 25:09was a confidence booster for me for sure, like going out there
- 25:12and and running the 450 gap uphill.
- 25:15I think that that's really right where I want to be right now.
- 25:18And I think it's hard to compare like I don't know, like I don't
- 25:22have a good 5K time. I don't have a good like I don't
- 25:24know where my fitness is at overall, but I I'm feeling like
- 25:27I'm getting fitter over time and that's the trending in the good
- 25:30direction. But a few, one thing that I
- 25:33really, I'm starting to transition to thinking about is
- 25:39everyone's competitive, everyone out here in these races that I
- 25:42don't know, most people are trying to get faster, trying to
- 25:45get the the best of themselves. And a lot of, you know, faster
- 25:49people are trying to be the best or trying to win races or FKTS
- 25:52or crowns or whatever it is. And I think I think I've had a
- 25:57little bit of a shift from and not that I want to try to be the
- 26:01best, like I'm shifting from trying to be the best to trying
- 26:05to be the best I can be. And I don't know, I guess I mean
- 26:09that a little bit, but not in a sense like I didn't think I'd be
- 26:12I'd be Jim Wombley, Conor man, Conor Mance, right?
- 26:15Like the elite runners are just out outside of my of my reach in
- 26:19terms of, you know, fitness and just pure freak ability, like
- 26:22all that stuff. So I know I'm never going to be
- 26:25the best runner, but I think I really want to start putting
- 26:30myself out there and and just pushing me to the maximum of my
- 26:34ability, like going out and putting myself in uncomfortable
- 26:38situations. Maybe more competitive race,
- 26:40maybe a shorter race and not treating every races like the
- 26:44Olympics. You know, if I fail, if I
- 26:47finish, you know, 20th place or 50 or whatever it is, I should
- 26:51start putting myself outside of my comfort zone.
- 26:54Because the more I do that, the more I'm just going to learn and
- 26:58grow. And, and, and, and it's actually
- 27:00holding me back not doing some of those things right now, like
- 27:04just saving efforts for, you know, do one or two efforts that
- 27:08suit me perfectly every year. That's kind of what I've been
- 27:10doing. And there has been a reason for
- 27:12that. Like I really wanted to develop
- 27:15bass, get my legs toughened up and not overdo it.
- 27:18Try not to get injured these years.
- 27:20And you know, I've gotten over faster over the years and I'm
- 27:24feeling more confident and comfortable and like fear of
- 27:28failing, I guess is getting is getting less scary.
- 27:31All the elite runners that that that you love watching or
- 27:34whatever, they race all the time.
- 27:36And some of these people are losing all the time.
- 27:39And yeah, just getting over that that kind of hurdle I think is
- 27:43going to be a big step for me. And I think like even the
- 27:46podcast, putting myself out there kind of thing is going to
- 27:50be a big step because like, honestly, I know that when I,
- 27:54you know, not that I have a target on my back, but if I'm
- 27:57putting myself out here talking about some of these efforts,
- 27:59posting on Instagram, like this guy, he just posted on travel,
- 28:03whatever, there are going to be some people who are like, I
- 28:05screw this guy. I want to, you know, come take
- 28:07his time or I want to compete against him or run against some
- 28:10and more people are going to be taking shots, right?
- 28:13And I think that's good for me. I actually want that.
- 28:16I would love for everyone to jump into my races, getting as
- 28:20competitive as I want, go take my crowns, my times, all this
- 28:23thing, all this stuff. I think I've never been one to
- 28:28be like a crown chaser or be a cherry picker for like different
- 28:31races and things. Personally, my thought process
- 28:34is like if I get a crown and somebody really fast goes out
- 28:37and immediately just takes my crown and I'm like close to
- 28:40them. I'm like, sweet, I'm close to
- 28:42someone really fast, you know, like I don't have, I don't care
- 28:45about being #2 like I really just care about putting in my
- 28:48best effort for a lot of, for a lot of these things.
- 28:51And, and yeah, that's, that's been kind of like a big, a big
- 28:56step for me. So I don't know, maybe some
- 28:58people can relate, maybe they can't.
- 29:00Maybe I'm just like, so like, you know, I just psych
- 29:02everything up and, and really nobody cares about your running.
- 29:05Like, you know, you care where you're running way more than
- 29:07other people. But that's something that I've
- 29:09kind of been growing into and I'm definitely going to race a
- 29:12lot more this year, You know, fingers crossed that I stay
- 29:15healthy and I'm excited about it.
- 29:16I'm excited about it. I obviously have my kind of a,
- 29:20you know, a couple big goal races that will be in my
- 29:22wheelhouse this year. But like this other stuff I'm
- 29:25going to I'm going to keep doing and I think it's really going to
- 29:27help me as an athlete and more competition, more efforts, more
- 29:32discomfort, uncomfort, unknowing is going to help me.
- 29:37The other thing too that that about this effort, like, I don't
- 29:39know, this is part of it is like I may I should say it, but I
- 29:42will. I think everyone there are some
- 29:44people I definitely have. A chip on my shoulder, let's say
- 29:47like a. Decent little size.
- 29:48Chip on my. Shoulder and a lot of people do
- 29:51and I think a lot of athletes do and to be competitive, you know
- 29:54you actually I think you need this a little bit, but there's
- 29:57definitely a chip on my shoulder.
- 29:58You know, kind of thinking like, you know, I've only done a few
- 30:02races, right I didn't do it an official race last year, so I'm
- 30:06kind of like I I've showed up for a few things I've been
- 30:08social media dark all the time I just pop up and strive and then
- 30:11I go away kind of thing once in a while.
- 30:14He probably doesn't post because he's because he's slow or, you
- 30:17know, he can only do trails and mountains and, and, and that is
- 30:22a big chip on my shoulder. And, and I think one, one thing
- 30:25that I guess I don't even know, but what I'm kind of say is
- 30:28like, I, I can run and I want to run and I want to compete this
- 30:32year. And so, yeah, maybe a little bit
- 30:35of a, a little bit of chip on my shoulder.
- 30:37Like I'm, I'm racing hard this year and I'm super excited about
- 30:41it. And whatever's going to happen
- 30:42is going to happen. You know, hopefully I just stay
- 30:45healthy and can get in a lot of efforts and yeah, but but I
- 30:49guess The thing is, yeah, maybe this is I, I don't, I, I can
- 30:53run. You know what, I'll just say
- 30:54that chest out. I can run and I'm going to run
- 30:57this year. And so I'm kind of fired up
- 31:00about it. So yeah, that those are my
- 31:03thoughts. Those are my thoughts and my
- 31:04effort. And I don't know, maybe some
- 31:08people can relate or, or that helps you out or whatever.
- 31:11If you're listening this, you want to go get the crown, go get
- 31:13the crown, go, go push that time down further.
- 31:17But that's all I had. We're going to jump into the
- 31:19injury talk next. So I mentioned this.
- 31:25I guess I'll just do this kind of like fairly quickly, but I
- 31:28mentioned the injury this year. But first I'll just talk about
- 31:32like my overall injury history getting into running.
- 31:36Probably 5 or so years ago I probably started training
- 31:38seriously. 4. Ish years ago now 3 1/2.
- 31:42No, probably 4 years. I've been running six days a
- 31:45week. What year is it?
- 31:46I don't yeah, probably 4 years. I've been running six days a
- 31:48week. Training hard.
- 31:50But yeah, when I started out running, it was it.
- 31:53I was getting hurt a lot, like everything, you know, hurt.
- 31:57I had runner's knee a lot at the beginning.
- 31:59I had this hand, you know, hamstring.
- 32:01I've had, you know, I had shins a lot when I was getting into
- 32:04it. And I think one thing that I
- 32:07would tell everybody, if you're getting into running, you need
- 32:12to learn about training theory and easy runs helping you.
- 32:17I think a lot of people get into running and they're just running
- 32:19too fast all the time. Most of my training, super easy,
- 32:24super enjoyable. I'm not out of breath, it
- 32:27doesn't hurt. It's fun, It's outdoor, outdoors
- 32:29in the woods, it's good. That is the best training for
- 32:33your aerobic system and for a lot of people that's going to be
- 32:37walking. So when you're getting into it,
- 32:40one, just be careful, don't too much do too much too fast 'cause
- 32:43you will get hurt. That's going to not running is
- 32:46going to slow your progress way more than training bad or
- 32:49running slower or whatever. If you have any periods of not
- 32:52training, that's going to hurt you the most.
- 32:54So avoid that. And then two, slow it down and
- 32:58not just slow it down to make sure you don't get hurt.
- 33:00Slow it down and understand that this is how you get better.
- 33:04And I think it took me a while to maybe accept I, I got lucky
- 33:08when I, when I started, what was it, 20?
- 33:11When I started with Christina Folsic, she was my coach for a
- 33:14year. She had me running like the zone
- 33:161 all the time. And I think that was probably
- 33:19the best thing for me. I was really slow at the
- 33:23beginning. I was really, really slow.
- 33:24And it really stunk looking at other people fronting.
- 33:27But I'm finally like, it's, it's paying dividends now and it
- 33:32feels amazing. And it's, it's, it's just a good
- 33:34way to train. It's easier on your body.
- 33:38And if you are going to commit to getting faster and running
- 33:41for a long time, you should be training easy a lot.
- 33:43So that's just like the one thing of like, you know, every
- 33:46beginner runner is going to have just a little bit of a curve of
- 33:49getting your legs tough into running because running is such
- 33:52high impact, Running is high impact, mountain running is high
- 33:56impact. I mean, downhill guys, that's
- 33:58the first thing that you do fast when you get into run at trail
- 34:02running. And it's like the hardest thing
- 34:04on your legs. Please do not just bomb
- 34:07downhills from the start because that is going to lead you to a
- 34:10lot of trouble. And yeah, so I would just be
- 34:13just be conscious about how you're training for getting into
- 34:15it. And then the two big injuries
- 34:17that I've had, one was a bone stress injury, which are like
- 34:21you have soft tissue injuries and then bone stress.
- 34:24Now this is not PT advice, is not medical advice.
- 34:28Soft tissue injuries are fairly easy to come back from.
- 34:32Keep keep it out of three out of 10 or less pain.
- 34:35And it's probably just going to get better, you know, in a
- 34:37couple weeks, depending on how bad it hurts.
- 34:41And so if it's soft tissue, you can just work through it a
- 34:44little bit. Just do some PT exercises, get
- 34:46some blood there and you're going to be fine.
- 34:49But bone, bone injuries are the no joke, can shut down people's
- 34:53running. So bone stress injuries, there's
- 34:56different grades to it's basically your bone is inflamed,
- 34:59not your soft tissue, your bone. And then if you, it gets bad
- 35:02enough, it's a fracture. So it's a broken leg or foot or
- 35:06whatever it is. That's the one injury that you
- 35:10really can't, you can't have any pain when you're coming back
- 35:14from it. You have to keep it at a dead 0
- 35:15pain, which usually means no running, which is hard that I'm
- 35:20not going to lie to you. You can train through it and
- 35:21kind of like string along your fitness.
- 35:23But if you have a bone stress injury and you're not training,
- 35:25you're going to you're going to get, you're going to lose
- 35:28fitness. That's just what it is and it
- 35:29stinks. So you want to avoid it.
- 35:32So my first one came when I started training a bunch.
- 35:35I was just running way too much like I, I think I went from
- 35:38running like three days a week, maybe 4:00 to 6:00 and just just
- 35:43even though it was easy running, it just it broke me.
- 35:46So I had shin splints or whatever bone stress in both of
- 35:48my shins with the grade below fracture and it was really hard.
- 35:53That was the one injury that really, I mean, it was hard just
- 35:57because there's no, it's just loading, there's no, there's
- 36:00exercises you can do, but it's really just, you have to load
- 36:02your legs less so they can heal. And so I did a ton of cross
- 36:06training and, and I probably lost fitness, but I kind of
- 36:10found my way through it. But it's basically just like you
- 36:12cannot run like these other people can run until you work up
- 36:16to it. And it took me years.
- 36:17It literally took me years to be able to run higher mileage.
- 36:22Like I was running 20 or 30 miles for a long time and even
- 36:27now it's still a work in progress to get my mileage up.
- 36:30Like a lot of people, I do not train the amount of mileage a
- 36:33lot of people train. I'm probably close in volume
- 36:36now, but it's a lot of cross training, a lot of specific low
- 36:40impact after high impact days kind of training.
- 36:44And it's kept me healthy from overuse injuries since then,
- 36:49which has been a huge thing the last couple years.
- 36:51I haven't really had overuse injuries, which I think it's
- 36:54just you, you know, I've dialed in my training.
- 36:56I found out a way to train that's good for, for me.
- 37:00Everybody's different, but it's good for me.
- 37:02It's good for my White Mountain efforts, you know, mountain
- 37:04efforts, trail efforts and, and it works and I can get faster
- 37:08and I can, I can, yeah, I can. I can train, train a good
- 37:12amount. So that's been good.
- 37:14The other injury, which is the injury from this year, which I
- 37:17guess you know, we'll kind of talk through, is I had a bad
- 37:20ankle roll last year. And ankle rolls, usually soft
- 37:25tissue, it's a muscle or ligament.
- 37:27Usually it's a ligament and it takes a little bit longer.
- 37:29It kind of stinks. I always tell people if you roll
- 37:31your ankle, here's the good news.
- 37:33It's pretty straightforward getting back from my rolled
- 37:35ankle. The bad news, it's probably
- 37:37going to take a little bit longer than you wanted to.
- 37:40It's pretty straightforward. Do some ankle exercises, you
- 37:43know, stay off of it when it hurts, don't push it through out
- 37:46of 10 pain that whole thing and you'll you'll get back to where
- 37:48where you were. But I had a bad ankle roll last
- 37:51year being being stupid basically sending an effort
- 37:55three weeks after after my my 20 the launch to dodge 22 hour
- 37:59effort not advisable. Very stupid ego running don't do
- 38:04it learn my lesson. Shame on me What what happened?
- 38:09There's roll my ankle bad. I have one good ankle and I have
- 38:13one bad ankle and this is going to be some gypsy mind games and
- 38:16you guys my good ankle used to be the one that I broke 10 years
- 38:20ago in college that I have a plate and like 10 screws in
- 38:24titanium plate, titanium screws. My bad ankle is my, my, my
- 38:28unbroken previous ankle that I've just rolled a bunch and
- 38:35I've never had a bad rule that like kept me out of anything on
- 38:37the on the bad ankle. And the bad ankle is feeling
- 38:40good now. And now it's my good ankle.
- 38:43The one that I rolled last year with the with the the plate and
- 38:47everything I rolled it. I did the whole came back to
- 38:51training too soon. It was too soon too much.
- 38:53It kind of like regressed the progress and I did, you know, a
- 38:59bunch of cross training PT, the crap out of it and it didn't get
- 39:01better for a few months. I pretty much could only do
- 39:04uphill efforts last fall, which really stunk because I had a
- 39:06couple things that I wanted to do, but but it wasn't getting
- 39:11better. And in this winter I finally
- 39:12went to APT and was like, I don't know why this is not
- 39:15getting better. I put in the time I'm, I'm doing
- 39:17everything I can to like improve my recovery.
- 39:19I don't know what's going on and basically what I what I deduced
- 39:25that. That plate.
- 39:26You know, I, I broke my ankle in college and I won't get into how
- 39:30I did it the whole story, but basically I messed up the ankle
- 39:32and there's a plate in there and the ankle like the cartilage,
- 39:36the X-rays, it all looks good, but I don't have a ton of
- 39:39mobility in the ankle. There's still hardware in there
- 39:42like the screws and everything can stay in forever, which I
- 39:45don't think it's a big deal. It's my fibula.
- 39:47So there's a, there's a, there's a metal thing on the outside of
- 39:50my fibula. There's a bunch of little
- 39:51screws. And then there's one screw that
- 39:53goes across my whole ankle ball. I think it's called an asthmatic
- 39:58screw. And it goes across the whole
- 40:01thing to keep your ankle locked in when it's healing.
- 40:04And then it's meant to break once you get more of your
- 40:06mobility and shrink back. So it's been broken for like a
- 40:08long time, eight or nine years and.
- 40:12Basically my whole ankle, it's got a little bit of kind of, it
- 40:15just looks a little weird. It's you can see kind of the
- 40:17stuff pointing out and it's just, it was not functioning
- 40:21like an ankle. I had horrible range of motion,
- 40:24which was putting stress on everything else.
- 40:26It was not super strong, even though the plate actually makes
- 40:30my bone really strong. Like, I don't even know if I
- 40:32could. No, I probably could.
- 40:33I don't want to say this anymore, but like my fibula is,
- 40:36is stronger now, but the ligaments and stuff probably
- 40:40aren't low mobility. There's just, it's not a
- 40:43functioning ankle. And so when it was trying to
- 40:45heal, if you have something that's not functioning and it's
- 40:49been injured, it just doesn't go together.
- 40:51And I was like, why is this not healing?
- 40:52Why is this not healing? And it's like, I didn't, he's
- 40:55like, you measured my mobility and he's like strength.
- 40:57It's like it actually was pretty strong, but the mobility was not
- 41:00there. And so it's loading things
- 41:01differently. It's allowing things not to
- 41:03heal. So I've been working on
- 41:05mobility, I've been working on strength.
- 41:07I've been do it every time to basically restore function in my
- 41:10ankle. And the last, you know, probably
- 41:13month or two, it's it's been getting better, which has been a
- 41:17big relief. So a couple lessons from this.
- 41:20If you have something serious that's not getting better, that
- 41:22should go see a medical professional.
- 41:25I think a lot of the things you can figure out online, but
- 41:27sometimes you just need somebody who knows what they're talking
- 41:29about. Go to somebody good, do the
- 41:32work. Don't, don't, don't slack off
- 41:34complain. You know, everyday I skip my
- 41:36ankle exercise. I hate myself.
- 41:39I don't do it too much. Once in a while I do.
- 41:41But staying on top of everything you need to do to keep yourself
- 41:44healthy, that is part of training and that is the hardest
- 41:46part of training. So that's pretty, pretty
- 41:50important. And then and then, yeah, like
- 41:53just battling when you are injured, you just have to battle
- 41:57to keep fitness. Anything you can do to stay fit,
- 41:59you got to do it. It's dark days.
- 42:02But when you come out of an injury, it will feel better than
- 42:06you think it will feel when you're injured.
- 42:07So it feels really good to get out.
- 42:09I'm crossing my fingers that I don't like regress from here on
- 42:12out. But hopefully I keep doing what
- 42:14I'm doing. Everything's going to work out
- 42:16how it should and and the ankle will get better.
- 42:19So that was kind of the ankle, the ankle stuff for today.
- 42:24I thought there was one more thing I want to say about the
- 42:25ankle, but I'm I'm totally spacing it function better
- 42:29strong. I probably forget OK, if you
- 42:34were watching on on YouTube or Spotify, I know most people
- 42:37listen on Spotify, but it does say that a lot of people will
- 42:42watch the video on Spotify. But if you're wondering the last
- 42:4520 minutes what's going on, basically I had to delete, you
- 42:50know, I messed up the footage. And so there's a little bit of a
- 42:53back story here. First off, I'm proud to say I
- 42:57think this is the first time I've ever lost footage.
- 43:02So I made it 20, you know, 27 episodes without losing any
- 43:06footage. But I had to do I had to put the
- 43:08stock footage in for you guys. So I just put like an old
- 43:11YouTube video, just some like scenic.
- 43:13I think it was on the Kinsman's nice little.
- 43:15You know, scenic. Visual for you guys with the
- 43:18podcast. But yeah, the last 20 minutes
- 43:20were just pure podcast because I'm trying to step up, you know,
- 43:26I'm trying to like I, I, I kind of said at the beginning of the
- 43:28podcast, I want to make it good quality.
- 43:31So I got, I got good mics. I want to just put out at least
- 43:35a good, you know, I don't want to, I don't want it to look like
- 43:38a hack, just, you know, blocked up, which is what I am and what
- 43:41I did, but I don't want to look like that.
- 43:43So I got I got a new camera. Honestly, I got a new iPhone,
- 43:47which just shot better video than the little, the little
- 43:53camera I was using before for all the podcasts.
- 43:55So I was like, all right, you know, I'm going to invest in a
- 43:57in a better camera system. You know, it's it's going to
- 44:01make the podcast better, whatever.
- 44:03So I go and bring it to use it for the first time and I get to,
- 44:08you know, I don't, I can't film it right outside.
- 44:10So I drive usually sometimes or if I'm on a trail hub, whatever,
- 44:13I go to my podcasting location, which varies, but outdoors and I
- 44:18get everything hooked up, all the mics, everything, computers
- 44:21running and, and I put my phone up on the tripod, tripod.
- 44:28I start recording. And I realize.
- 44:31All of my notes are on my phone and you know, I feel like
- 44:35usually, sometimes I get myself into situations where I'm always
- 44:38like, I'll figure it out if something happens.
- 44:40Like I, you know, maybe I don't think things all the way
- 44:42through, but but I'm, I'm willing to kind of battle
- 44:45through whatever adversity comes, you know, whether that be
- 44:49trying to make a makeshift, whatever.
- 44:52And I could not think of a single way to have my notes and
- 44:57and use my phone to record the video.
- 45:00And usually like at the beginning, I usually will have a
- 45:02note sheet. I just didn't have time and I
- 45:04had a lot of like race things, race results.
- 45:06I want to go through that. I can't just like memorize or
- 45:08put down on a quick CHEAT SHEET. So I'm sitting in the bed of my
- 45:12truck thinking there is no way for me to re have the notes in
- 45:16front of me and record the footage.
- 45:17Maybe there is actually, I don't know if an iPhone I could just
- 45:20like if I swiped up right now and then zoomed, I don't know.
- 45:24So I go back home and I should have just first thing is using a
- 45:29new camera. You should bring the old one
- 45:30just in case something happens. I didn't.
- 45:32So go home, get the camera, come back and like, all right, we're
- 45:35going to make this a great podcast.
- 45:37You know, don't let this fluster you and you stay in the pocket.
- 45:40Don't let it fluster you. And and I start recording the
- 45:44podcast in 25 minutes in the the camera, my old camera dies
- 45:49because I didn't have it charged.
- 45:51So yeah, not good. And so this is like again, did.
- 45:56So I'm like, well, I was like, all right, you know what, I am
- 46:00just going to free ball it. No notes because we need to get
- 46:03that. I want the footage.
- 46:04We throw the iPhone up and I'm like, let's go iPhone, This is
- 46:08your moment. I I wasn't going to go with you
- 46:10today, but you know, next man up mentality.
- 46:13So iPhone starts recording. I do it all good.
- 46:18I couldn't do the race results. I was like, I'll just film those
- 46:20later, which is what I'm doing now.
- 46:23And I, I get home and I go to upload the the file onto my
- 46:27whatever my editing software and I, I don't know if any of you
- 46:30guys are computer heads out there.
- 46:31I am not. So this would have meant nothing
- 46:34to me a year ago, but now I kind of know what this means.
- 46:37I upload the file and my file is 110 gigabytes.
- 46:44Now I unlocked this feature like I don't know, it wasn't really
- 46:50unlocked. You just had to go and click a
- 46:51button. But I unlocked this like high
- 46:53resolution editing feature in the new iPhone.
- 46:57So the the file is gigantic and it's going to take 4 hours to
- 47:02just upload on on my computer, which is not a great computer.
- 47:06And then if I put it in my editing software, the whole
- 47:08thing would crash like zero chance.
- 47:11So I'm like, do I download it for four hours, try to compress
- 47:15it on something I don't know. To put that in perspective,
- 47:18people, 110 gigabytes for a 20 minute video.
- 47:24First off, I mean you, if I had a zit, you could see the zit on
- 47:28my zit. The quality.
- 47:30I don't even know if I want that quality, that good quality, you
- 47:32know what I mean? But my old iPhone that I had the
- 47:38entire thing, apps, messages, photos, videos, everything
- 47:43together. The storage on that was 50
- 47:45gigabytes. OK, so I doubled.
- 47:48And I had. That for like 6 years or I don't
- 47:50know how about five years or something.
- 47:51So basically double the size of the entire iPhone in in 120
- 47:57minute video clip. So for that reason, for all the
- 48:01headaches it was going to cause me, I just had to click the
- 48:03delete button on my phone and throw in some scenic stuff.
- 48:07Which honestly though it could be cool.
- 48:09Check it out. I thought some of those early
- 48:11YouTube videos that I made were pretty good.
- 48:14Some people watched them but I I thought they were good scenic.
- 48:16They were so hard to capture though, like bringing that
- 48:18camera out on my runs was just not a fun experience.
- 48:22I look at there's this guy Derek Forbay or I don't know exactly,
- 48:26isn't that last name, but look up Derek Forbay, YouTube hiking.
- 48:32He has a channel. He's from the northeast.
- 48:34I remember he kind of started when I kind of started, I saw
- 48:36his page and he he is so good at making those videos.
- 48:41All of his videos have thousands of views.
- 48:43Like he he just gets, he's over 1000 Subs now.
- 48:45So shout out to Derek. But when he does his videos, I
- 48:50watch some of them. He said he must set up a Cam, go
- 48:53up the mountain, set up a camera, run down the mountain
- 48:56right at a frame, and then come on through like he's hiking,
- 49:00right, hike through and then go get the camera.
- 49:02And he does that for all these hikes.
- 49:05And yeah, to get like an awesome documentary film, film quality
- 49:08stuff, that's what you have to do.
- 49:10And I was just like, there's no way I can sustainably do this.
- 49:14It already is really hard to get up to the White Mountains every
- 49:16weekend. Like just, you know, it's a long
- 49:18drive and long days and stuff. And adding that on top of it was
- 49:21too much. So how did I say that?
- 49:25Oh yeah. So my old school videos, I used
- 49:28to bring the camera on everyone for like 2 months.
- 49:29It was awesome. Got some good footage.
- 49:32But anywho, that was why you didn't see me for 20 minutes.
- 49:36Now we're back on the iPhone. Please leave a comment.
- 49:38Be like, wow, this footage at the end of the video is
- 49:40spectacular. Andrew, this is so good by Lever
- 49:43podcast. I hope the.
- 49:46Quality is good though, I hope it.
- 49:47Was worth the investment, which I think it will be.
- 49:50But the so OK, so I know I think I said before this, like here
- 49:54are the race results. And now I just did this little
- 49:56thing. One other thing that I wanted to
- 49:59talk about first before we get into the race results, which I'm
- 50:02going to get to. But there was one thing at the
- 50:05injury piece of the video that I was like, oh, I thought there's
- 50:09one, one more thing I want to say.
- 50:11I remembered it. It was when I initially, I'm
- 50:16trying to, yeah, I went to the, I went to the doctor and PT
- 50:19about the same time and I'll do a little doctor's spiel.
- 50:24I think right now, I mean, like healthcare online, there's so
- 50:28much information. Who knows what you know, there's
- 50:30so much stuff come out there. It's hard to trust.
- 50:36I, I think I've just have trust issues.
- 50:38It's hard to trust what is what is being driven by sort of
- 50:41making money off this. Who knows the right stuff?
- 50:43Does this person know the right stuff?
- 50:45Are they cheap? You know, are they expensive?
- 50:47Are they booked? Are they not booked?
- 50:49Like every good person is booked out months like all this things.
- 50:52So I have a hard time with with like getting good information.
- 50:55I think like I just need to do things on my own and then test
- 50:58it out and then I can can have a good feel for it.
- 51:00But I go to the doctors and every time I go to the doctors
- 51:07and they asked me, oh, why is something bothering you?
- 51:09And, and they're like, oh, what have you been doing?
- 51:12And I kind of tell them, oh, I run kind of a lot.
- 51:13And they're like, well, how much is a lot?
- 51:15And then I tell them. And then they're like, oh, yeah,
- 51:18I mean that just you just doing too much.
- 51:19You have to cut it back. But I'm like, I you don't really
- 51:24understand how much I regularly do this is this should be no
- 51:29problem like I am. I am accustomed to this like
- 51:31there is an injury going on. It's not just because half the
- 51:35all the time you go to the doctors, it's just stop doing
- 51:37stuff. Rest.
- 51:39It is what it feels like and it's super frustrating as an
- 51:43athlete to go and hear that from a bunch of different people or
- 51:47you don't. Half the time I go to the
- 51:48doctors, it's like, wow, the X-ray didn't show anything or we
- 51:50don't know exactly, or it could be a virus.
- 51:52We don't really know exactly. Just let it rest, see if it gets
- 51:55better. Like that kind of thing like
- 51:56does frustrate me. And one of the things that was
- 51:59really frustrating when I went to the doctors this time, and I
- 52:03think a little bit shocking, little bit stressful was, yeah,
- 52:08like I mentioned, I broke my ankle about 10 years ago.
- 52:10So I have a plate hardware in there.
- 52:13And the doctor was pretty much like, hey, you know, it's, you
- 52:17know, you rolled your ankle, you should be better from that.
- 52:19Maybe this is just like, you can't do this crazy running
- 52:23stuff on your ankle. Like maybe this is your old
- 52:27injury coming back and and, you know, just having problems with
- 52:33it. You this might be started
- 52:34arthritis like this kind of talk.
- 52:37And that just gets me so upset because I mean, one I put my so
- 52:43much in the line for like this podcast, run mountain peaks,
- 52:46like I have so much big goals and put sort of put out there.
- 52:49And if you just tell me I'm not going to be able to run like
- 52:51that is not conducive to what I'm trying to do over here.
- 52:55So that was like a little bit stressful, but I just don't like
- 52:59their gut reaction of of rest and you this is too much and all
- 53:03this they, they usually hear. I would rather go and it's, it's
- 53:08not. I don't think that doctor was a
- 53:10bad doctor. I I've been to, I have one
- 53:12person I really like that I couldn't go and see her, but she
- 53:15kind of says the same thing sometimes.
- 53:17A lot of. PT say the same things and it's.
- 53:19I don't think it's it's. Like they are practice
- 53:25professionals and they know what they're talking about.
- 53:27But I think in the realm of ultra running and endurance
- 53:31sports, we're trying to push the limits.
- 53:34This is not highly studied. And so they don't get it as much
- 53:38or they don't have as much data on people that do this.
- 53:42Maybe that's kind of what it is. So I just think, and for me it
- 53:46was like, I'm not OK. I'm pretty much ignoring the
- 53:49rest of what you're saying because I don't, I don't mess
- 53:51with you. I don't mess with your message
- 53:53because I'm running. I, I don't care what happens.
- 53:57I'm figuring out a way to run. And so I didn't follow up with
- 54:02that with the doctor and I didn't go to, to their PTI, went
- 54:06to a different PTI, went to somebody who is proactive.
- 54:09We'll give him a shout out. Steady state in Portland.
- 54:12Kelton's a man Mike Brown, who is my guy right now, he's the
- 54:15man. I trust them.
- 54:18I think they know what they're doing.
- 54:20They understand runners and rest is not for for most people to
- 54:28get better. And so I started going there.
- 54:31We kind of identified that my ankle is just not functioning
- 54:35right. There's lots of things that I
- 54:36have to do to, to get this damaged ankle back to, you know,
- 54:40reasonably functional and started doing that strengthening
- 54:43mobility and the pain has ease and I've been able to go up to
- 54:47running and I'm like, I don't have arthritis.
- 54:49There's nothing wrong with my ankle.
- 54:52I just needed to get someone who, who could tell what was
- 54:56going on. It could help me, right?
- 54:57Try different things to help me. So yeah, if you, if someone's
- 55:01telling you you can't do something and someone's telling
- 55:03you like that's too much, you just do less.
- 55:06Oh, your knee, you know, this is going to hurt your knees.
- 55:09Don't do it. Don't listen to those people.
- 55:11Because most of those people, I think just have no idea what
- 55:15you're capable of and what they're capable of.
- 55:19I think so many people just sit at home and say, damn, you know,
- 55:23running. Ah, he gets crazy.
- 55:25They do this run stuff, but that's that can't be good for
- 55:27you. It's like sitting inside is not
- 55:30good for you. OK, sitting inside and not doing
- 55:33anything ever is not good for you.
- 55:36So that's that's kind of like a battle.
- 55:38And so I I wanted to vote voice some of my yeah, voice on my
- 55:43thoughts. They're just about yeah, don't
- 55:46don't let everyone, anyone get you down.
- 55:48Like if you want something figure.
- 55:50Out a way. Human body is so amazing and
- 55:56yeah, you can battle back through a lot of injuries,
- 55:58battle back. But that was one thing.
- 56:01Oh gosh, I I don't want to do it again.
- 56:03But I feel like there was something else I wanted to say,
- 56:07something else I wanted to say. OK, so that was some of the
- 56:13injury thoughts I want to throw in there.
- 56:16Now we will get to the race results.
- 56:20So like I said, like I've said before, I want to keep track of
- 56:24every old Theresa in New England.
- 56:26So I have a spreadsheet and I want to like at least preview or
- 56:29follow up with the results for each of them.
- 56:31So we're going through and we're taking some, some off that that
- 56:34finished up. So the Frozen Heart 900 in
- 56:37Connecticut, I talked about it before, it was in February.
- 56:40I've been waiting for results, can't find results.
- 56:43I'm moving on. This is the results there.
- 56:46It's just some, you know, somewhere in the World Wide Web,
- 56:48but I can't find it. So that race is wrapped up the
- 56:52Burke's Satan sidewalk. 66.66 K and 66.66 hour virtual race
- 57:00results from February are posted.
- 57:03So this was an all the whole length of February.
- 57:07You could have ran this virtual race, submitted results and
- 57:10Burke's, it's Burke's has done 3/3 of these virtual races this
- 57:13year. We're in the midst of three
- 57:15virtual races. So we're going to go through
- 57:18those results. First off, Satan sidewalk 66.66
- 57:23K stepping on cracks. I don't know, like I think I put
- 57:28this in one of my episode descriptions.
- 57:31Do you? Are are you?
- 57:32Do you? Believe in bad juju.
- 57:35I think I believe in bad juju and not saying that I shouldn't
- 57:38sign up for this race. I'm recording this on Friday the
- 57:4113th. That kid seems not good.
- 57:45That seems not good. 66 points sit all this stuff.
- 57:51I think some people love that stuff.
- 57:52Like some people love scary movies, horror movies.
- 57:55Hey, what are you doing Friday night, you know, or like, you
- 57:58know, growing up, like what are you doing for now?
- 57:59Let's go to a graveyard for no reason.
- 58:01It's like I don't I think I'm good.
- 58:03I don't. Am I just trying to get scared
- 58:05by these movies? Are there like cool inspiration?
- 58:08Like I don't I don't I'm not a huge scary movie person.
- 58:12I don't I don't mess with bad juju a lot like Andrew.
- 58:16Do you believe in ghosts? I'm not sure, but I don't want
- 58:19to mess with it. I don't want if if there's if
- 58:21somebody's saying that a ghost lives in a house, I'm not going
- 58:24to question it. I'm not going to talk smack
- 58:26about it. I'm not going to go visit it.
- 58:27I'm going to let it be. I don't know, but I don't want
- 58:31to find out is is my reaction to that kind of thing.
- 58:35So whoever had the idea for this race, they, they probably are,
- 58:41are one of those people that just like to get a little fright
- 58:43in their body, a little fright going through their body.
- 58:45But I don't know what inspired it.
- 58:48Satan himself hear the results. So there are four races posted.
- 58:52So the double trouble 2 by 66 hour.
- 58:56So I think this means, I don't know if you had to do it like
- 59:01130 hours straight or this is you took 266 hour blocks and the
- 59:07whole month of March and did as many miles as you can, right?
- 59:11But 100, that's what it like 132 hours.
- 59:16Do some quick math. How many days is that?
- 59:186 is that five days, 5 1/2? I don't know.
- 59:22I have a calculator here. 5 or 6 days, right?
- 59:2548 hours, 72 is 3. OK.
- 59:27So it's between 5:00 and six days of running.
- 59:30There were two finishers, so two people sign up for this race.
- 59:33Again, these Burke's virtual races, if you're trying to boost
- 59:36your ultra sign up score, not a lot of people signed up.
- 59:40Lots of categories. Last month we had somebody sweep
- 59:44and go 300 percenters. So you could literally do like
- 59:47three or three or four of these races for the first two months
- 59:50of the year and just get 600 percents on ultra sign up two
- 59:54finishers from this race. You wouldn't have got 100% on
- 59:57this one, though. Jonathan Engelstad from
- 1:00:00Broomfield, Connecticut, Colorado, excuse me, got that
- 1:00:04good blood up there. He's 54 years old, so old school
- 1:00:07crusher. He ran 352 miles.
- 1:00:13In 5 1/2 days, which isn't it isn't like consecutive backyard,
- 1:00:18you know, style, style running, but that is a lot of miles.
- 1:00:22A 352 mile a week. Oh, my God, it's disgusting.
- 1:00:27Who is this guy? His ultrasonic rank is 66.94.
- 1:00:31Who is this guy? He's got 3034.
- 1:00:35Yeah, he's got 34 races. Oh yeah.
- 1:00:41Oh yeah, this is Satan Sidewalk. Sorry, sorry, sorry.
- 1:00:44So he went two of the categories.
- 1:00:45So. All right, so I'm jumping ahead
- 1:00:47now. I looked at his page
- 1:00:48specifically. He's got 2 given categories, but
- 1:00:51I don't know, it looks like he does a lot of ultra races in
- 1:00:53second George Jacomi, Lakeville, MA, 50 years old.
- 1:00:59He did 271 miles. If I do 271 miles in 5 1/2 days
- 1:01:05on a virtual ultra sign up, I want to win.
- 1:01:09That is shocking. O, that was one and two with no
- 1:01:12one else in the race. Now we'll go to the 66 K.
- 1:01:16So I think this would be a 66 K for time.
- 1:01:21I don't, I don't know mileage, what the F is a kilometer.
- 1:01:23I saw that on Instagram. Watch what the F is a kilometer.
- 1:01:26As for the stars and trips, baby, that's some clip from
- 1:01:29Instagram and I saw it's very funny, but I don't know what is
- 1:01:32that 40 something miles. So to put in perspective, Oh my
- 1:01:36God, one guy just smoked the field, Michael de George de
- 1:01:42Gorgi, sorry, from Albany, NY, 27 years old.
- 1:01:46He rented in four hours and 48 minutes and then the second
- 1:01:50place Yuki Chorney, Mont Vernon NH shout out female also she won
- 1:01:55for the female. She did 8 hours and 10 minutes.
- 1:01:58So those are the top 2 in this race and only 5 finishers in
- 1:02:03this race. Michael de George Scott looks
- 1:02:06fast. Well OK so his ultra sign up is
- 1:02:09first place, first place, first place, first place, first place,
- 1:02:122nd, 1st, 13th at AUS track and field. 24 hour guys fast.
- 1:02:16I don't know. He showed up, he wanted to sit
- 1:02:18in sidewalk and he rent it. Rent it speedy.
- 1:02:20What pace is that? I don't know.
- 1:02:23Frozen folly, 66.6 hour outdoors only.
- 1:02:27So this is like the double trouble.
- 1:02:29We started with the double trouble.
- 1:02:31Maybe we shouldn't have done that, but like I said, you guys
- 1:02:33get it in the order that I speak it.
- 1:02:36Frozen folly, 66 hours just one way.
- 1:02:38Oh, outdoors only. OK, so those are indoor
- 1:02:41category. Jonathan Inglestead, Broomfield
- 1:02:45So one of his goes. He did a hundred 191 miles in in
- 1:02:51less than three days. Second place.
- 1:02:54Keith Borraza, Keene, NH King guy.
- 1:02:59The winner for the females Carmen Abello, New York, NY New
- 1:03:05York female, 30. She goes 110 miles.
- 1:03:10So they they won the 66 hour. These are.
- 1:03:13Yeah. I mean, these are pretty, pretty
- 1:03:14stacked. Some people are really going for
- 1:03:16these efforts. And then the 66 hours, I guess
- 1:03:20this doesn't say outdoors only. So I'd assume.
- 1:03:23Oh, so the frozen folly 66 means you are frozen outside and then
- 1:03:28the the 66 hours indoor, you could do it on a treadmill.
- 1:03:31So these people are we're not going to calm.
- 1:03:33So I do more. I would rather do inside.
- 1:03:36We're not going to say that they were at 160 miles.
- 1:03:38This is that's blasphemy. I'm going out myself.
- 1:03:40That is horrible. I don't think I can cut that out
- 1:03:42because it's so small. These people are not soft.
- 1:03:46They they just want to stay warm.
- 1:03:49I agree with them. Anthony Viola Stanhope, New
- 1:03:53Jersey. He wins it 160 miles and then
- 1:03:57second place George Jacomi, again, he goes 153 miles.
- 1:04:02And then the female winner, Cindy Sullivan, she goes 111
- 1:04:07miles. So people are putting up there's
- 1:04:10there's 123456789 people who did over 100 miles on the treadmill
- 1:04:17in less than 3 days. That is disgusting.
- 1:04:20That is nasty. You just no, you folks are yeah
- 1:04:24crazy, crazy, awesome, crazy strong those how is the Satan
- 1:04:31sidewalk results? So I don't know that kind of
- 1:04:32that got a little bit out of hand here, but.
- 1:04:34Those are the results. Next up, we're going to Yeah.
- 1:04:38So those are the results. And now we're going to do some
- 1:04:41previews. So for March, the Burke's
- 1:04:43Ladybug 50K, this is a virtual 50 Ki think it's outside because
- 1:04:48ladybugs are coming out, bugs are coming out.
- 1:04:50I don't know, go outside, run a 50K for time, submit it
- 1:04:53virtually. And that's the Burke's race
- 1:04:56again. And then there are two races
- 1:04:59that are happening tomorrow. I don't think I will have.
- 1:05:01Yeah, they're long events, so I won't have this in the results
- 1:05:04this week, but next week I'll put the final results in.
- 1:05:08It's the Fit Rock Trail race, Cumberland, RI 50K, The rock
- 1:05:13trail race. Typically right now in Rhode
- 1:05:17Island, there'd be no snow. I don't know if there's snow
- 1:05:19down there. There might be snow because I
- 1:05:21think that the storm just kind of hit more southern or the
- 1:05:25storm this weekend is hitting more southern.
- 1:05:27I'm not sure. So who knows, but that could be
- 1:05:31a snow trail race for for one year edition, but that's coming
- 1:05:34up tomorrow. And then the true strength
- 1:05:37uphill will 24 hour scheme schemo race in Greenwood, ME.
- 1:05:43This is kind of like a last year standing vibes.
- 1:05:47It's not an hour on the hour. So I think it's a 24 hour event.
- 1:05:50Who can go up and down the most in 24 hours?
- 1:05:54So this is going to, this is not just who can outlast people.
- 1:05:57This is who's fitter and who can do it for 24 hours straight.
- 1:06:00So this is more true to like some sort of lapped ultra, like
- 1:06:04a timed lap ultra hamster wheel. What's the, what's the Yeah,
- 1:06:12something like a, a, a lap ultra that you just keep going for 24
- 1:06:15hours, see who goes farthest. So on skis, I don't know if any
- 1:06:19of the last gear stands or some of those big skiers are going to
- 1:06:21show up for this. I think like I think I saw
- 1:06:23Justin Lagasse on one of the on the results list from history.
- 1:06:28So I'm sure this is on the radar of some of the people that have
- 1:06:30won last year standing. But that'll be a race to look
- 1:06:33out for. If you're listening to this at
- 1:06:366:00 AM on Sunday, shout out Clark Plummer.
- 1:06:38I think he's the one. He must be at least the one
- 1:06:40person that says I think he actually does listen, right?
- 1:06:43Usually, right. Sunday morning, maybe Vinny too.
- 1:06:45I don't know what time Vinny goes out, but if you're
- 1:06:48listening, they may be wrapping up right now.
- 1:06:50So check the results, live results.
- 1:06:53So those are the races this weekend.
- 1:06:55And then next weekend we're going to preview some races.
- 1:06:58The Enchanted Forest Ultra Run Six hours in Stratford, Vermont.
- 1:07:03So this is a forest runt like we're getting in the trail
- 1:07:05season here. The snow is melting, especially
- 1:07:08in these southern more southern states.
- 1:07:11I mean, I guess the forest can can stay put in the winter.
- 1:07:13Anyway. What is that?
- 1:07:15I love the the poem by Rob Frost.
- 1:07:19I remember Scotty was a was the first person to tell me about
- 1:07:25that store. Something about a horse, a guy
- 1:07:28in a horse in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night
- 1:07:30and he goes the woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I
- 1:07:35have promises to keep in in many miles until I sleep in many
- 1:07:40miles until I sleep. That's a Scotty Pat node.
- 1:07:43He put me out of that one, but that's a good.
- 1:07:45I don't know. That's a good that's just
- 1:07:46reminded me of it. I don't I don't know, six hours.
- 1:07:48I have six hours in the enchanted forest until I sleep.
- 1:07:50I have six hours in the enchanted Forest until I sleep.
- 1:07:53That's a Stratford, CT preview and then another Tark race.
- 1:07:58This is a very popular race, I know.
- 1:08:00I think it's sold out, like all the Tark races sold out.
- 1:08:02There's a wait list on this one. It's the Tark to Hail and back
- 1:08:06Six hour and 3.5 mile race, Westwood, Mass.
- 1:08:12These are hard to preview like I would.
- 1:08:14These are this is a bigger race, so I'd like to do a better
- 1:08:17preview, but there are no rankings and I'm not you know, I
- 1:08:21don't I try to look and see what the name like I know Patrick
- 1:08:23Karen's on a 3.5 mile. I can't just keep saying Patrick
- 1:08:26Karen for all of the Tark races like that preview is going to
- 1:08:30get old. But Patrick Karen's in 3.5 mile.
- 1:08:32And then the one person I did want to shout out in the tark
- 1:08:37the 6th hour. Is The Who the Oh my gosh, the.
- 1:08:42Houlihan hooligans. I'm scrolling down.
- 1:08:46I don't and I see the Houlihan Hooligans, Auggie Houlihan,
- 1:08:52Jenny Hooligan, Sophie Hooligan, Lucy Hooligan, all from
- 1:08:57Newburyport, MA, they all signed up and they are hooligans
- 1:09:01apparently. The four of them sounds like a
- 1:09:03family they're going out and going to crush together.
- 1:09:05That's who gets to spotlight on this preview.
- 1:09:08Shout out to the Houlihan hooligans.
- 1:09:12OK, so those are the race results and then we are going to
- 1:09:15end this off with a little bit of trail conditions talk.
- 1:09:20The trail conditions are horrible, horrible.
- 1:09:24I mean, obviously it warmed up so much this week.
- 1:09:28Everything is pulse. I mean, if you if you think
- 1:09:30about stepping off a trail right now, postal, everything sloppy.
- 1:09:34Everything down South has had so much snow sticking around.
- 1:09:38Usually we don't have snow right now.
- 1:09:40There's so much snow that all the trails are sloppy.
- 1:09:42There's post holes here. It's brutal out here.
- 1:09:45It is brutal. People are sticking a mountain
- 1:09:48auto roads. If you got a Mountain Auto Rd.
- 1:09:50close to you, go there. It's brutal right now, but
- 1:09:55hopefully I'm in. This weekend's going to be cold.
- 1:09:57It's just going to be very divvity, lots of post.
- 1:10:00So I think there's going to be a little bit of snow coming up.
- 1:10:03So I wouldn't say it's super. It's just going to be bumpy.
- 1:10:07There's going to be some some some some some little bombs
- 1:10:11planted out there. This is thing like and don't run
- 1:10:14fast right now for sure. Definitely don't don't do
- 1:10:17anything because he's when there's divots and post holes
- 1:10:20covered up by soft snow. That is not friendly.
- 1:10:24And then if your post hole when it's really warm out and you go
- 1:10:27on the whites and your post hole in a ton, it's like you're just
- 1:10:30putting your foot down into whatever rock hoping that it's
- 1:10:34not a rock or a jagged thing or whatever.
- 1:10:37It's trying to kind of just craziness out there.
- 1:10:39This is the time of year where I start to transition while I'll
- 1:10:42pick the good days when the trails get packed down and it
- 1:10:44froze, froze in the morning, you go out.
- 1:10:46But other than that, you got to stay more South.
- 1:10:49This is you can even start headed South of the city.
- 1:10:52So this is like, you know, the middle of the the fells is a
- 1:10:55really good spot to go right now.
- 1:10:58Hopefully around us is going to get melted completely out soon.
- 1:11:01And then here's going to be a good spot and then the bell naps
- 1:11:04and the Ossipees in the next month or two, we're going to get
- 1:11:08really good too. So this is kind of like a mud
- 1:11:11season, warm up season. But the good news is it's almost
- 1:11:14trail season, so very exciting. The warm weather feels amazing.
- 1:11:19So with with. Bad conditions come, great
- 1:11:23promise. And I will leave you with that.
- 1:11:26We'll see you next week. Peace.
